- 0:16Yeah, but I'm a professional. Welcome back to another episode
- 0:23of the WASD and beyond Round Jesus Christ.
- 0:29No, I just, I have a quick little fucking.
- 0:31I've got my deck right here, so I can just reach over and hit
- 0:34mute. It's nice and easy.
- 0:37Don't worry about it. Yeah, because you're a
- 0:39professional. Are you drinking tea right now
- 0:43for your little sore throat? For your little fold.
- 0:46No, just trying to get everything to break loose in my
- 0:49sinuses. I hate being sick.
- 0:52I don't care. It's terrible, dude.
- 0:54Like my wife says that when men get sick, we are babies.
- 0:57Yeah, that's fine. I have a baby.
- 1:01I know. I'm a goddamn baby.
- 1:03That's fine. I accept that.
- 1:07I just don't like not being able to breathe.
- 1:09I know it's a weird thing, but. No, I hate when under the little
- 1:15nostrils area it gets all dry. Yeah.
- 1:19But it's like talking. It's like touching the bottom of
- 1:21a dog's foot. Yes, it didn't like that.
- 1:26I didn't, did not like that. You didn't.
- 1:29All right. Yes, everybody, though.
- 1:31Welcome back to the episode of The WASTMEN.
- 1:33We are your hosts getting over it.
- 1:35Sick Nick. And we got currently sick Brody.
- 1:39Going through it, Brody. Going through it, see I see I'm
- 1:43getting the residuals. I still have a headache like
- 1:45I've had headaches for the past like week.
- 1:47I hate, I love this weather. I hate the ramifications.
- 1:53Let's see let's see. We are sponsored by Final boss.
- 1:56Please check them out. I think they're teasing
- 1:58something pretty cool. To me, it looked like a certain
- 2:02game that everybody loves, with zombies and guns and a lot of
- 2:07scares. I'm excited they've posted
- 2:10online, so let's see what that is.
- 2:13I think I know what it is. I think I know what it is.
- 2:16I was not told what it is this time, though.
- 2:20I'm losing my privileges there. I'm not.
- 2:23I've never spoiled the drop. I was going to say, did you do
- 2:26something? No, I've never spoiled the drop.
- 2:28No, no, no. So check out final boss links
- 2:31down below. Check out Brody's new shit
- 2:34returning show. There we go.
- 2:37Role for deception, Brody, You want to do that one?
- 2:40Yeah, we are a actual play podcast.
- 2:45We currently have two parties running through a Norse inspired
- 2:49world. They're running through
- 2:51simultaneously experiencing completely different scenarios
- 2:55and everything else going on. So we try to get a couple of
- 3:00those up a month, but we all have busy schedules and it's
- 3:03very hard to work out. So we should be playing again
- 3:06next week and I should hopefully have that up.
- 3:08But I the best way to know when a new episode comes out is just
- 3:12just subscribe to us. It's cool, it's cool.
- 3:15Just check it out, man. If you ever played D&D, you know
- 3:17that the campaign never follows A strict we are playing this
- 3:21day, it's not possible anymore. So check D&D out.
- 3:26Rule for deception out. Check D&D out too.
- 3:28I mean, it's funny. If you're play D&D, you should
- 3:32probably play it. It's very fun with your friends.
- 3:35You can play alone. I guess there are people who do
- 3:37that. There are people who've done it.
- 3:38It is weird. Yeah, I know it can be done,
- 3:41but. I don't know why.
- 3:44Can you imagine sitting there and being like I counter spell
- 3:47myself? And then you just have to go.
- 3:49Ha ha. No, you can't.
- 3:50Yes, I can. Did you read the rules?
- 3:52Yes, I did. It's a real spider man pointing
- 3:55at spider man situation. It's just.
- 3:57Feels like you hate yourself at that point.
- 4:00Yeah, I it certainly does feel that way.
- 4:03Yeah, so weird. So check that out.
- 4:04Check out. It came from screen box.
- 4:06That's me, Noah and Alex's show. It's a horror movie podcast
- 4:10review, Review movies out of the streaming app Scream Box.
- 4:14Check that out. That is every Friday or
- 4:17Saturday, whenever releases. This episode's releasing
- 4:20Saturday because I say so. This one right now released
- 4:26Saturday because I say so. I need a day to release this.
- 4:31I just do. Let it be.
- 4:33Let it goddamn well. We were going to have two
- 4:35episodes this week and then we had to postpone the one drama
- 4:42anyways. No, it's for a very good reason.
- 4:45But yes, let's get right into it.
- 4:47Brody, have you been playing anything this week or have you?
- 4:49Not really at the time. Let's see, I played some hell
- 4:54divers this week, jump back in with the ODEST launch of like.
- 5:00I guess it's just not really a launch.
- 5:01It's armor, a war bond in there. Played.
- 5:07I'm looking over at the side of my screen here.
- 5:09I played a game called the Rift Breaker, which is like a base
- 5:16building simulation survival type of game.
- 5:21Pretty neat. I found that it was on sale.
- 5:24It might still be on sale. It was like $12.00.
- 5:26Well, well worth it. I picked it up right before I
- 5:28was going in on night, so I was staying up all night and had a
- 5:31ton of time to just kind of delve into it.
- 5:35I played all of 20 minutes of Silk Song.
- 5:43That's all I've had time for. Came out today.
- 5:45I got to play a little bit and then I was hoping to get maybe a
- 5:50little bit more in tonight, but I don't know if that's going to
- 5:52happen so. Well, let's see if it does.
- 5:56Other than that, I think that's pretty much about everything
- 6:00I've touched this week. How about you?
- 6:02Yeah, so a little bit of hell, divers action, getting back into
- 6:06the swing of it Had a weird kerfuffle where I thought I
- 6:09played with a controller. Everybody told me no, you
- 6:10didn't. I said maybe I did.
- 6:11They go, no, you didn't. You play with mouse keyboard.
- 6:14And I went, oh, OK, play with mouse keyboard.
- 6:15Had a way better time. I played with mouse keyboard.
- 6:20Well, a little bit of Space Marine too.
- 6:22I'm going to be hopping into that quite a bit this weekend
- 6:27due to the update that just released.
- 6:30I did finally beat that campaign.
- 6:31That was another thing I played. I'm sorry.
- 6:33It's great. It's a good time.
- 6:34It's a very good fucking. Time it's on like the last
- 6:37level. I was like, dude.
- 6:39I sat there for like a year and a half.
- 6:43It's fine. You finally beat it.
- 6:46Let's see, I did play 20 minutes Silk song as well.
- 6:51But you know, I just got a little busy and I had to do shit
- 6:55around my house, so I was like, I'll just play this one later.
- 6:58So I'll probably play some Silk Song after we record, but other
- 7:01than that, nothing. That's all I've had time for.
- 7:03There's a lot coming out though. I want to play Chronos, I want
- 7:05to play Hell Is US. I want to play Silk Song.
- 7:09I'm playing Borderlands next week.
- 7:11I'll be playing Borderlands 4 next week.
- 7:14Fucking it's too much. Goddamn too much.
- 7:17With that being said, you ready to get into it?
- 7:21Yeah, let's do it. This week's episode is our What
- 7:25What say. Oh, I was go ahead and introduce
- 7:27it. I'll I'll bring it up after.
- 7:29This week's episode we are doing our top five, top five, top five
- 7:37villains in gaming. It's going to be a good time.
- 7:41You could you could hear we're both sick.
- 7:43It's so stupid. Yeah, it's real dumb.
- 7:45We should probably record a podcast.
- 7:50Should we do our honourable mentions first or after?
- 7:55I feel like this could be an interesting one to do them first
- 7:58because I guarantee I'm going to knock two of them out out of the
- 8:01way and honorable mentions that you would have guessed would
- 8:03have been on my list. I might guess one of yours.
- 8:10So yeah, yeah, we, I have 12345. I have 6 honorable mentions.
- 8:15I think I have 7 so. OK, cool.
- 8:18Perfect. Same wavelength.
- 8:19And we won't, we won't go with these at AG nauseam here, but I
- 8:24I actually have 8:00 but they're tied together.
- 8:26So my first honorable mention is 2 bosses from Elden Ring solely
- 8:35because of their pure fucking difficulty and the zeitgeist
- 8:39that happened around these two figures at launch.
- 8:44I think only one of them has actually even gotten easier.
- 8:47The other one still remains a real fucking gut check in that
- 8:51game if you choose to go down that path.
- 8:53But Melania from Eldon Ring and Rodon from Eldon Ring pre the
- 9:00first patch that came out and made them easier.
- 9:03I beat Rodon pre patch. I did as well.
- 9:08That's Yep, there you go. That's all I was saying.
- 9:10Those were two, two nice little gut checks, but they're such
- 9:14memorable bosses that I I felt I needed to keep them here.
- 9:18But I also can't say I know the Laura of Eldon Ring enough to be
- 9:22like, yeah, This is why they're cool.
- 9:24Like, I know what a little bit, but God damn, they were fucking
- 9:28amazing fights. So you want to do 1?
- 9:33And then I'll sure Ganondorf and or Ganon.
- 9:37Hey, that's as well of honorable mentions.
- 9:41Ocarina Time was one of the first games I really as like a
- 9:45young kid played, played and I remember going through the Rose
- 9:51Garden part of Ocarina of Time where you're sneaking through
- 9:56the castle to go to Prince to meet Zelda and like he is like
- 10:01insight basically, I believe talking with her.
- 10:06I, I'm trying to remember exactly how the scene goes, but
- 10:08I just remember seeing that big green motherfucker and going
- 10:11something might rot. And then I finally, as an adult,
- 10:14beat the game and I went, yeah, he's, he's, he's a tough bitch.
- 10:17Like Ganon, Ganondorf is a tough bitch.
- 10:19Yeah, so he's I, I do, I, I'm a huge Zelda fan, but it was hard
- 10:28to throw him onto this list because I feel like there's more
- 10:31dynamic villains that really made more sense for me to put
- 10:37onto this list as a best villain.
- 10:38That being said, I do love me some Ganon and some Ganondorf
- 10:42and his whole fucking shebang that he's got going on there.
- 10:45But yeah, I, I agree. I, I feel like honorable mention
- 10:48was the right place for him. Yeah.
- 10:53Sephiroth from Final Fantasy. I knew that was going to be
- 10:57there. Yeah, I listen, I enjoy that
- 11:01game a lot. I enjoy the remakes that they've
- 11:04been doing. He is a honestly a pretty wild
- 11:08villain. That being said, I don't have
- 11:11necessarily the the same affinity that some people do for
- 11:15him. I do think he's a very good
- 11:17villain. I think he is absolutely
- 11:20intimidating as hell but just for me I'm not as well versed in
- 11:27his whole deal. I know quite a bit of it from
- 11:30just playing the games and such but I haven't caught in like a
- 11:33deep rabbit hole or anything. That being said some of mine on
- 11:36my list aren't necessarily like oh is this crazy lore thing but
- 11:40I I felt he needs to be mentioned in a list like this
- 11:43but he doesn't necessarily make my top five.
- 11:47There you go. In my honorable mentions I have
- 11:52Frau Angle from Wolfenstein. She is an evil fucking bitch.
- 11:57Fuck yeah she is. First and foremost, Nazi bitch,
- 12:00right? So like you're, you're, you're
- 12:02already gunning to try and RIP her face off the entire game.
- 12:05Like you want to fucking hatchet her in the face, Nazi, right?
- 12:10Like, you just want to kill her and then you think she's dead
- 12:14and she just ain't. And she has her fucking face
- 12:17mangled that she's like back with a vengeance toward, you
- 12:19know what I mean? It's like she the hate this
- 12:22character has in their heart is wild.
- 12:26It is wild, wild, wild. And it's it is at times when you
- 12:30see her on screen, it's like, damn dude, you're fucked up.
- 12:35Yeah, yeah. No, that's, that's a great call.
- 12:40That's another one. I just, I I've played some
- 12:42Wolfenstein here and there but never really gone super crazy,
- 12:46and I don't even know how many of them I've actually beat to be
- 12:49perfectly honest. So it absolutely deserves to be
- 12:53there, but it was not on my list at all.
- 12:56My next one is Majora from Majora's Mask.
- 13:00Very good pick. I I fucking love Majora.
- 13:03Majora or Skull Kid? Majora.
- 13:05OK. Specifically Majora.
- 13:07Yeah, yeah. That, that whole dynamic there
- 13:13is very fascinating. But I mean, it's, it almost
- 13:17equates to like possession in a way.
- 13:21Skull comes with a jerk off. Yeah, he he just a shitty,
- 13:24shitty kid, which tracks, but Majora wants to drop a moon on a
- 13:30city, so there's that. But God damn, yeah, Majora's
- 13:34awesome. But again, it was just.
- 13:37There's a couple better choices I thought, so we'll put it here.
- 13:41Yeah, I also Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda, so that is a
- 13:47great pick. Even though I called it Majora
- 13:49for so long, it runs like it's Majora.
- 13:51And I went, OK, I'm going to this is this is because I was
- 13:57thinking about John and I'm like, yeah, you know what?
- 13:59This is a good villain, Handsome Jack.
- 14:01He's on my honorable mentions as well.
- 14:03Great, great villain. I I've always to be a great
- 14:10villain. I don't think you need to look
- 14:11scary. It's always the man in the suit.
- 14:13Sometimes I I appreciate that type of villain.
- 14:15It's the man in the suit. You know, it's the puppeteer.
- 14:18It's not the Braun, it's the brain, right?
- 14:21So like that is always scared me at times, right, because I'm a
- 14:26simple man. But no, I'm joking.
- 14:30But yeah, I know I I I liked the Borderlands series growing up.
- 14:34One through 3 or my jam. I fell off them for some reason
- 14:37and I'm really hoping to come back with Borderlands 4 and
- 14:41Handsome Jacks. Just felt fitting to be on this
- 14:43list. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:44Handsome Jacks on there for me too.
- 14:46He's he kind of reminds me of like a Bond villain that is also
- 14:52a goofball. He kind of has like this, yeah,
- 14:57Bond villain slash, like 80s action movie type of villain in
- 15:02some ways with like 1 liners and bullshit like that too.
- 15:06But to me he's, he's like, he's almost the quintessential bad
- 15:10guy, right? Like I, I think he just fits
- 15:13that role so well without being necessarily menacing.
- 15:16He does have his moments where you're like, oh fuck, this guy's
- 15:19entirely unhinged. But yeah, he, he's, he's a lot
- 15:23of a lot of fun. And there's a reason that
- 15:25Borderlands fans really enjoy his character.
- 15:30I, I technically have two more, but I'm going to save one of
- 15:33them because I assume we're going to talk about it later.
- 15:38But my last honorable mention, and I will, if if somehow it
- 15:43does not come up in your list, I will, I will give my last one
- 15:47later. But my last honorable mention is
- 15:49Balder from God of War. Balder was on my list.
- 15:53Yeah, God damn man, what a what a crazy villain to just show up
- 16:01at the beginning of the game and just go toe to toe with fucking
- 16:05Kratos. I such The performance from his
- 16:10voice actor was incredible for one, and he just like he's
- 16:15honestly a really tragic character and the way all of
- 16:19that plays out as tragic as well.
- 16:22And it's it was incredible to have a looming threat that can
- 16:27go up against fucking Kratos, especially after such a long
- 16:31time of not having a God of War game to come back and be like,
- 16:35yeah, now this guy can't fucking die.
- 16:38You're like, no, Oh no, that's what Kratos does.
- 16:42He kills people. Just the one thing I can't do to
- 16:45him. What the fuck?
- 16:46Yeah, so I I think that was a great introduction to coming
- 16:50back to that series. I I was half tempted to throw
- 16:53Thor on there also because him coming back and kicking the
- 16:56absolute shit out of Kratos in the second game, lore accurate,
- 17:01literally bringing him back to life and be like, we aren't done
- 17:05yet. You're like, what?
- 17:08But God damn it. But yeah, you kind of see the
- 17:11the puppet strings going on in the second one.
- 17:13So I, I didn't think he quite fit there.
- 17:14But I do think Balder was an excellent, excellent villain in
- 17:18the the 2018 God of War. Balder was great.
- 17:22It really put you in your place in that game.
- 17:24To start out the game pretty strong and heavy.
- 17:26It you get your tutorial done, then you meet Balder and it's
- 17:29like oh fuck, OK cool. And then you just get your ass
- 17:32whooped. You're like, ah, I see.
- 17:36Yeah. It's I have a lot to do before I
- 17:38talk to him again, right. And it's it's he's a great
- 17:41character. He's a great villain.
- 17:43And it's just done in such a way where it's tragic.
- 17:47You start to feel for Baldur, but he he doesn't feel for
- 17:50himself. It's a whole thing.
- 17:51If you know it's, it's the whole thing and it's great.
- 17:56My last two hours go quick. I have the master from Fallout.
- 18:01This body horror fucking big time boss in the original
- 18:05fallout freaked me out when I first saw it on my uncle's
- 18:08computer. I just remember seeing this like
- 18:11brain computer guy and it it gave me nightmares.
- 18:15I was like what the fuck dude. Like who would do this and
- 18:20playing it as an adult or a young teenager?
- 18:22You're actually a child. That was probably 11-12.
- 18:26It still freaked me out. So that's, you know, the
- 18:29consequences of what you do with the Master and your choices you
- 18:33make in that game when it comes to the Master is pretty
- 18:37impressive for the time, and I just think it's a timeless
- 18:40feeling. I'd like to see that reiterated
- 18:42in maybe a new Fallout. That'd be cool showing you know
- 18:46upon in the the Series A bit. Technically you can't because
- 18:49it's Canon but whatever. And then Shang sung.
- 18:52Shang sung. Fucking sick.
- 18:54Mortal Kombat. Hell yeah.
- 18:56This is 2 parts. Obviously the games is where I
- 19:01first saw him, but where I learned about him more was the
- 19:04first Mortal Kombat movie which grew my love for this villain in
- 19:09the games. Just ruthless.
- 19:13This dude is ruthless, fucking ruthless.
- 19:15Does not care. It's just he's just here to do
- 19:18one thing and one thing only. Fucking simple minded but also
- 19:23highly intelligent. They're single minded rather but
- 19:26highly intelligent. Shang Song can't not have him
- 19:29here. So hell yeah.
- 19:31Those are my honorable mentions. Yeah, I I would be surprised if
- 19:35we don't cover my last honorable mention.
- 19:37So I am going to hold on to it because I don't want you to
- 19:40spoil your list at all, but I am actually shocked that we had so
- 19:44many of the same honorable mentions there.
- 19:46Yes, because we, I mean realistically we play a lot of
- 19:50very different games most of the time, so.
- 19:53We do, but we experience a lot of the same things.
- 19:56That's true. That's true.
- 19:57Like we, we, we play differently, but we've
- 20:01experienced a lot of the same games as well.
- 20:02Like a lot of major games, even like smaller, weirder games.
- 20:06Like oh dude, that villain was just out of this fucking world,
- 20:09dude. Yeah, so holy shit, let's.
- 20:13Go on to the actual lists here. Do you want us or do you want me
- 20:17to? Start.
- 20:20I can go first if you want. Let's go, dude.
- 20:22Kick this off my #5 So this is 1.
- 20:29While I was like doing a little bit of research for this, this
- 20:32never came up anywhere. And I don't know if it's just
- 20:35because it is a newer game and I don't know if some of these
- 20:38publications and such have done done a, a newer list.
- 20:45But yeah, sometimes I gotta kick start the brain a little bit and
- 20:48go take a look at some other people's list and be like, Oh
- 20:51yeah, I did play that game. But in this case, my number 5 is
- 20:56Raven from Stellar Blade I. I feel like I am a huge fan of
- 21:08this game to be perfectly honest.
- 21:09Like I have played more of this game than most people I know and
- 21:14it is a game that the story isn't necessarily its strongest
- 21:19point. It's actually something that it
- 21:22suffers from quite a bit. It is pretty simple.
- 21:25It's pretty predictable for the most part.
- 21:29The that the voice acting is also something that really this
- 21:34game does not exception really or does not do exceptionally
- 21:38well. But Raven in particular is
- 21:42probably one of the most compelling performances from
- 21:44this game. She is absolutely batshit crazy.
- 21:51So she a little back story for those who haven't already played
- 21:56this game. And it's not really spoiling
- 21:58anything. It's been out long enough.
- 22:00I, I, I'm not too desperately worried about spoiling again.
- 22:03It's not, it's not storytelling on multiple levels.
- 22:07It's pretty straightforward. She essentially learns that
- 22:10she's not the chosen 1 and decided fuck this and I'm going
- 22:15to kill anyone that tries to become the chosen one for this
- 22:18right? And while that is a simple
- 22:22premise and nothing new for storytelling by any means, the
- 22:28way it is done and the way you were a drip fed information
- 22:31about her and her basically slowly starting to slip into
- 22:35this insanity is very interesting and honestly pretty
- 22:41well executed. Her characterization is really,
- 22:46really good and she just, again, the voice actress for her really
- 22:51did a great job. She is vicious, she is ruthless,
- 22:55and she is fully able to back it up.
- 22:57It is probably it is noted as being like one of the hardest
- 23:02boss fights in the game on hard mode in particular.
- 23:06And boy, oh boy, it is it is tough.
- 23:09It's like one of the things that people that play this game like
- 23:13are really proud about doing. You get a special costume for
- 23:16beating her type of thing, right?
- 23:17Like it it's just a very interesting story beat in a game
- 23:25that didn't do that exceptionally well.
- 23:27So maybe it stands out to me. Maybe it's recency bias, but God
- 23:32damn, she is fucking brutal and she is hard to beat.
- 23:35And it was I think one of the first times in the game and
- 23:39quite some time playing through my first time on PC that and it
- 23:45was actually my first time ever even getting to her.
- 23:48That was like the first fight that gave me trouble.
- 23:52It like it was that that first thing I'm like, Oh yeah, I've
- 23:55been breezing through everything, you know, and got
- 23:57there and I was like, what the fuck is this?
- 24:00What the? Hell, even is this.
- 24:02But yeah, she's, she's my #5I, I would love to see more of her
- 24:07and Stellar Blade 2 or however they end up doing Stellar Blade
- 24:102. I think she's a very interesting
- 24:12character, far more interesting than Eve, right?
- 24:14Eva's your basic chosen 1 character with less
- 24:20characterization, but she's who you play as throughout the game.
- 24:24But I Raven is actually probably the most interesting out of all
- 24:28of the androids in this. So very, very cool character,
- 24:32Very, very good game. I still highly recommend it, but
- 24:35even with its downsides. But yeah.
- 24:39You love a good fucking Ying Yang situation, I suppose you
- 24:43know what I mean? Like it's always good for the
- 24:47the the past up for the promotion villain is always
- 24:50good. They they really are.
- 24:53They like they really, really fucking are.
- 24:55So I I I think I need to watch you play stellar blade more.
- 24:59I think if I watch it, I might end up I like hack and slash
- 25:01games. I don't think it's like a hack
- 25:03and slash, but. It's it's like that, that
- 25:05perfect mixture of like hack and slash with a little bit of souls
- 25:09elements to it. Like it's, I mean.
- 25:12So it's right up my alley. I don't know why I'm not played
- 25:14it. So yeah.
- 25:15Because it it got the reputation I got, and for good reason, to
- 25:19be perfectly honest. I think I care about a gooning
- 25:22sesh. Yeah, fair enough.
- 25:24There you go. So my #5 Doctor Neocortex, Crash
- 25:33Bandicoot. I just remember getting a
- 25:36PlayStation for Christmas with my entire family.
- 25:39It was me, my brother Mario, my dad, my my Jules and Luke were
- 25:42very young, but my dad wanted to play Crash Bandicoot.
- 25:46So it was my Christmas and Mario's Christmas.
- 25:50Somehow he played first and I just remember, oh, what up TI
- 25:57remember seeing doctor Neocortex like in the first Crash
- 26:01Bandicoot and go. I don't know what he's doing.
- 26:07Wait, hold up, wait. I'm all right.
- 26:11I'm back. Quick dog take upstairs break.
- 26:16Fucking he he's not supposed to be down here.
- 26:18He gets into trouble anyways. Doctor Neocortex is my is 1 like
- 26:22my favorite villains of all time because of nostalgia.
- 26:25It plays on my my nostalgia when I see him.
- 26:28The big ass head like Oh yeah, how he talks to Crash, all the
- 26:33baddies that he tries to summit on Crash and then everything
- 26:36fails for him and the masks are fucking working against him
- 26:40'cause he's a fucking fool. He knows he's a fool.
- 26:43The masks know he's a fool and nothing works for him.
- 26:46And I, I just love that. I love the failed villain.
- 26:49It's almost like the grew thing. Like for me, it's like Doctor
- 26:52Neocortex is grew in video games, right?
- 26:55Like nothing you do is going to ever be truly that evil.
- 26:58Like you suck at your job or? Doofen Schmertz.
- 27:03Yeah, he's like Doofen Schmertz or good, good call or you know,
- 27:07and that's again. So you got the past up for the
- 27:10promotion villain and then you have the never going to be good
- 27:13at it anyway so you may as well just do it villain.
- 27:16Yeah. You can't go wrong so right.
- 27:19Yeah, he's like a the icon of what early 2000s villains like
- 27:25shit late. 90s, yeah. Yeah, late 90s, early 2000s,
- 27:29like when you think of that era of gaming and you think of
- 27:33villains, you either think of him or someone that was not
- 27:37necessarily modeled off of him, but modeled off of his like
- 27:39archetype of villain, right. And.
- 27:42King K Rule. Yeah, right.
- 27:45It was done so often during that time period and God damn.
- 27:49Yeah, he's good. I didn't even think of that.
- 27:51That's a good one. It's a bad one.
- 27:53Thank you. My #4 This should be relatively
- 27:59short and sweet. General Shepherd from Modern
- 28:03Warfare 2. Yeah, he's a piece of shit.
- 28:07Yeah, real big. Piece of shit, man.
- 28:10I am. That's good.
- 28:12I am not a huge Call of Duty guy by any means, especially not
- 28:16anymore. But back then it was, it was, it
- 28:18was common to be, you know, big into Call of Duty, right?
- 28:22I remember I was laid up from a knee surgery during this time
- 28:27and I was sitting there. I don't know, I'd have to look
- 28:32at when it came back A. Teenager or some shit?
- 28:34Yeah. I think so.
- 28:36Damn bro, I forgot that you you had.
- 28:40Yeah, yeah, I spent, I spent most of high school on crutches.
- 28:50Yeah, it was a good time. Yeah.
- 28:51That came out in 2009. I would have been a sophomore,
- 28:53so this would have been right around the same time that I
- 28:58broke my knee for the first time, actually.
- 29:02Maybe if I would have gotten like more bones broken other
- 29:05than the one in my face, my nose because I have a very punchable
- 29:08face, I would be as buff and jacked and not as hurt as I am
- 29:14today like you are. But that's fine.
- 29:15Cool, I'm projecting. The reason I bring up a Call of
- 29:23Duty story, which is never something that gets brought up,
- 29:26but that I mean what Modern Warfare 2 was probably the one
- 29:29that gets brought up the most out of any of them, right?
- 29:32You have it was probably the first time that we got to see
- 29:36that many different types of missions, the, you know, going
- 29:40dark moment and all of that shit.
- 29:43But when General Shepard, you're getting ready to jump on the
- 29:47back of that plane and he shoots you right in the fucking head
- 29:50and then turns and shoots ghosts in the head and you're like.
- 29:54What earthen shattering? Whatever it was not telegraphed
- 29:57in any way, shape or form throughout the entire campaign.
- 30:00It was all like there was never any of these moments like trying
- 30:04to lead you in that direction or even red herrings or anything
- 30:07that we're like pointing towards this or even against it.
- 30:11Like you never even would have processed that.
- 30:13And when that fucking happened, I, I literally set my controller
- 30:17down. I go what the fuck?
- 30:18You know what the fuck is this? Just such a a a rare W for Call
- 30:25of Duty to have such a fantastic bait and switch and one of the
- 30:32most brutal fucking betrayals in games that I think I have ever
- 30:36ever seen. It was wild.
- 30:39Especially for 2009. Right?
- 30:42Like we, I feel like we have improved with storytelling since
- 30:46then, but at that moment in time, that was insane.
- 30:51So it was a gut punch, dude. Everybody was talking about it
- 30:53at school. Everybody was talking about that
- 30:56at school. Or it was your friend group,
- 30:58Xbox Live at the time. Everybody was like, dude, God
- 31:02damn, what the fuck? Great pick.
- 31:04Wouldn't even. Wouldn't even thought about it.
- 31:06Wouldn't even thought of it. That's great.
- 31:08Thank you, that is a a gaming moment that has stuck with me
- 31:11for a long time. God damn, I'm going to keep it
- 31:16in the more friendly realm. I think Bowser is my #4 I'm
- 31:22going to keep it friendly. I guess Bowser is just you can't
- 31:25not have them on a list. I don't think, because it's just
- 31:28that is like the villain. It is like the video game
- 31:32villain. It's the one that you you ask
- 31:35anybody who the bad guy is, you, you, you show a kid Bowser, it's
- 31:40like that's the bad guy. Where is he from?
- 31:42Super Mario, That's the guy who's mean Super anybody is
- 31:46going to go. That's that is Super Mario's
- 31:48arch nemesis and it's iconic. He the design is great.
- 31:54The story is improving a lot with Bowser because it's it's
- 31:58being told through act like way more representation now with the
- 32:02movie with the game technology being as advanced as it is
- 32:06nowadays, like you really get to get a feel for like what?
- 32:10Obviously it's Bowser love speech understood.
- 32:13There's more there. There's a power struggle.
- 32:15There is so much more to Bowser nowadays, and I love that about
- 32:18Bowser. I just love the character.
- 32:21I think the character is so neat.
- 32:23So it's it's such a good design too.
- 32:26I mean, especially for yeah, right, like awesome.
- 32:30Hell yeah. But to have that in, you know,
- 32:35the the first Mario where you get to see him for the first
- 32:38time and even with, you know, as many pixels as they were able to
- 32:42use their you're just you you could paint a perfect picture of
- 32:46what he look like, right. And.
- 32:48You knew. Yeah, and it's just gotten
- 32:50better, obviously. I mean, by the time we got to
- 32:53like the fucking Super Mario 64, like, you get a full 3D render
- 32:59of what he looks like and you're like, holy shit, this is crazy.
- 33:01And one of the first things you do is throw him into bombs.
- 33:05Yes, and he's imposing. He's huge.
- 33:08Yeah, he's massive, but God, yeah, that that's I, I
- 33:12considered putting him on here. It felt, it felt like an easy
- 33:17pick, honestly, and I like was really trying to stay away from
- 33:21Nintendo stuff just because I I guess not really right.
- 33:25I, I didn't want to necessarily do that because I, I do tend to
- 33:29be the more Nintendo focus guy. It's an.
- 33:32Easy get, but for someone like me to pick it?
- 33:35Yeah, I I feel like it means way more coming from you than it
- 33:38does me so. But yeah, fantastic pick for
- 33:43sure. My #3 The Joker from the Arkham
- 33:49series. Mark Hamill.
- 33:53Mark motherfucking Hamill killed it.
- 33:57Killed it easily. Like it's it is probably my
- 34:04second favorite Joker, right behind Heath Ledger.
- 34:06I mean, how do you beat that though?
- 34:10But Mark Hamill's Joker is always so good.
- 34:13He does such a great job of capturing that frantic joy from
- 34:22chaos to to pure insanity to to anger and all within like 10
- 34:28seconds. And you're like, what the fuck
- 34:29just happened? Like he he does it so well.
- 34:33Specifically, I think of the Arkham Knight game, the with
- 34:38Jason Todd and that whole shebang, right?
- 34:41Fucking incredible how they did that.
- 34:44Even if that game was one of the weaker of the series, right?
- 34:49It was still a very fun game. And that moment of I was never a
- 34:54big DC guy, so I didn't really know a ton about Jason Todd.
- 34:58So I think the first time I actually really learned about
- 35:02that was during that game via the performance of 1 Mark
- 35:07Hamill. Holy shit, man, you just such an
- 35:11incredible and menacing villain that shows up throughout that
- 35:15entire series. I mean, you technically kill
- 35:18him, right? Or you think you kill him in one
- 35:20of the games. The the one of the first things
- 35:22you see in the first game is the Joker, Like it's and rightfully
- 35:27so, right. That is the villain for the
- 35:30Batman, right? Yeah, there's a a whole host of
- 35:34other villains, but when you think of the Batman's villain,
- 35:37you think of the Joker, or at least now, right, like back and
- 35:41they definitely would have thought like Bane or whatever.
- 35:44And Bane shows up too, obviously.
- 35:45But man, yeah, he's, he's he's so good as the Joker.
- 35:51And I, it's one of those that it's, it's really hard to
- 35:55picture anyone else doing an animated Joker and doing it to
- 35:59that level because I don't, I don't know if you can.
- 36:01And it's even crazier when you're like, wait, that's the
- 36:03guy that played Luke Skywalker, the good guy.
- 36:07And now he specializes in playing the fucking Joker.
- 36:11It's it's so good. But yeah, he's Mark Hamill's
- 36:14fucking incredible. No, that's that.
- 36:17That's a great pick. That Joker is also just
- 36:20phenomenal. You know, it's so chaotic, it's
- 36:23so bipolar, it is in your face, it's disgusting looking.
- 36:28It's a great Joker and a great video game villain.
- 36:31I so happy we got to play against.
- 36:35My number 3 is Glados from Portal.
- 36:38That was the honorable mention that I figured would show up.
- 36:42Glados is an insane villain. This computer is just so full of
- 36:50hate and just so over it all. And I just remember playing Poro
- 36:56for the first time and being faced with Glados and going, oh,
- 37:00you're big. Oh, you're big.
- 37:02I'm like, oh, shit. And it's like, you know, under
- 37:07the guise of this is just a puzzle.
- 37:09Like we're just testing you and then no, Glados is trying to
- 37:13kill you. You're a you're a she's the
- 37:16scientist and you are the lab rat.
- 37:18And I love that dichotomy between character and computer
- 37:22at that point, right. Actually, I have two computers
- 37:25on this list and technically 3 because my earlier, I don't
- 37:32know, whatever the master. But yeah, Glados is just is one
- 37:37of those like iconic villains that will always be talked about
- 37:41in gaming. It Portal is such a beloved
- 37:44franchise. If you weren't a Half Life fan
- 37:47and you like Valve, you were a Portal fan.
- 37:51And if you love Half Life, you love Portal, right?
- 37:53Like it's, it's a game. I think Portal is something
- 37:56everybody could love. And I think Glados as a
- 37:58character in both Portal and Portal 2, it's just amazing,
- 38:02Especially when she becomes a potato and you're going down the
- 38:05fucking, you're going down that hall and she goes, great, now
- 38:08I'm a potato. And she's just so pissed and
- 38:11she's so demeaning. And she really does make you
- 38:13feel stupid and like shit when you're playing, you know, not to
- 38:17say like Wheatley, because Wheatley, this could be A2
- 38:20parter because Wheatley is a great villain too, because he's
- 38:22so stupid, you know, that he stumbles into it basically.
- 38:27And it's like, Oh my God. And, you know, you're working
- 38:29with Glados, but then she goes, just go, go, you know, like this
- 38:35is the villain. That's just like, I'm so done
- 38:37with you. I don't want to fight you
- 38:38anymore. I'm going to torture others.
- 38:41You just fuck off. It is it is great.
- 38:44I love the writing. I love the voice.
- 38:46There's such an iconic voice as well.
- 38:48It's been used in car commercials.
- 38:50That voice has been used in the GEICO commercial that it's
- 38:53iconic. And to, to, to know as a quick
- 38:57side note, that Warner Brothers is possibly producing the movie
- 39:03with JJ Abrams at the helm. Because like that was confirmed,
- 39:07we just don't know where it's at to know that's a possibility and
- 39:11we'll be able to see that on the big screen.
- 39:15It's you know it. I would love to see that.
- 39:19I would love to see it. Glados.
- 39:21Yeah. I knew you would be able to
- 39:24explain everything about Glados better than I could, but yeah,
- 39:29the the first time you actually encounter and realize what's
- 39:32actually happening and you hear her voice and see this huge
- 39:38robot and also how she is so done with your shit.
- 39:42The the sarcasm that they were able to put in there with a
- 39:46robotic voice was just so fucking good.
- 39:50But I I'm. A real voice actress, too.
- 39:52Yeah, I remember making it to to the end of Portal for the first
- 39:56time, which actually it wasn't all that terribly long ago.
- 39:58I never really played through Portal back in the day.
- 40:02And it was one of the games that I was like, I need to finally
- 40:05play this one, especially once I started playing on PC.
- 40:08But yeah, God, it's such a good game First off.
- 40:11And Glados is truly like what everything hinges on and and
- 40:18that reveal at the end is. While the puzzles and everything
- 40:21are good, that that reveal at the end and everything is really
- 40:24just makes it that much better so.
- 40:27Yeah, no, fantastic. This is one that I figured you
- 40:32would have guessed. My number 2 is Andrew Ryan from
- 40:36Bioshock. I I figured he was coming.
- 40:40Yeah, I'm, I'm a big Bioshock fan.
- 40:43I haven't played the games for a very long time at this point,
- 40:46but he was interesting. He was the intelligent swab
- 40:53villain that plays as your friend throughout this entire
- 40:58game until you get to a certain point and everything is revealed
- 41:02and he says would you kindly. And I remember sitting there
- 41:07that happened, set the controller down, had goosebumps
- 41:10all down my arms like mother fucker got me again.
- 41:15It was. You.
- 41:17But yeah, the Woodley would you kindly thing was just Oh my God,
- 41:23it such a simple voice line that meant so much more at the end of
- 41:29the game because you realize like, hey, this guy fucking is
- 41:32an asshole. It's been a very, very, very
- 41:36long time since I've played through this series, but that is
- 41:39a character that has stuck with me for a very long time and
- 41:44would show up on this list for decades to come at this point.
- 41:49But his his desire to protect his creation, even though it is
- 41:54all gone to shit is just insane. We don't really talk about
- 42:01infinite, so we're really just talking about 1:00 and 2:00
- 42:06here, but yeah, cuz infinite is the whole other fucking ball
- 42:11game. But God damn.
- 42:13Yeah, the the the first two games and particularly the first
- 42:16game, right? Just so good.
- 42:20Just you go from loving this character that's supposedly
- 42:25helping you out to just pure unadulterated anger and a
- 42:30feeling of betrayal and everything else all in one
- 42:34moment. It's it's just a mastercraft at
- 42:39at that reveal a fantastic. Using one's own hubris as a
- 42:46arch, as a villain, is always great.
- 42:48Yeah, it's the inability to say I'm wrong and we can fix this.
- 42:53It's no, this is right. You're doing it wrong.
- 42:56And we're I'm going to make it right.
- 42:58It's it's so good. Andrew Ryan is great.
- 43:01It's great, Fucking great. Victoria to stay in the shock
- 43:04realm. Show Dan System Shock, a game
- 43:10that actually directly inspired Bioshock.
- 43:16It's another robot that just absolutely makes you feel like
- 43:18shit. If you have not played played
- 43:23night dives latest system shock, I highly recommend you do.
- 43:26It's a very hardcore single player experience.
- 43:29It doesn't help you, it doesn't hold your hand.
- 43:31It is old school FPSRPG style game.
- 43:35Go play it, go pick it up. It's very cheap.
- 43:37Very good. But show Dan.
- 43:40Man, the first time I saw this again, I was at my grandmother's
- 43:44house where my uncle was living there.
- 43:46You've heard me talk about him a lot before, so I'll spare you
- 43:49that. But I saw Chodan on this
- 43:51computer. He was walking through a
- 43:53corridor corridor and there were screens on the corridor.
- 43:57And all of a sudden this freak AI computer thing pops up and
- 44:02starts calling you like a worm and worthless and is trying to
- 44:07like talk you into clicking a button.
- 44:10If you click that button, you open up the Shields, which you
- 44:14you let out a laser and that laser goes it hits something.
- 44:17It's show Dan is a fantastic, formidable foe that is literally
- 44:23trying to poison you and trap you and kill you and crush you
- 44:28and hurt your feelings and she's in control of the entire base
- 44:32and ship and you have nowhere to go.
- 44:35You are in show Dan's world. The only way to stop her from
- 44:37getting true control on each level of the ship is to destroy
- 44:42the cameras that she's that she watches you through.
- 44:45And you know each time you do that, she'll talk to you through
- 44:48there and be like you piece of shit basically like you've
- 44:50destroyed my camera that stopped breaking my ship.
- 44:53So Dan is great. So Dan is conniving.
- 44:55She is mean. She's downright evil.
- 44:58Where is Glados is funny and just conniving and mean and not
- 45:05super downright evil but just just mean spirited.
- 45:09Chodan is evil and mean spirited and I love Chodan for that.
- 45:14Hell yeah. Yeah.
- 45:15System Shock is one that I have never actually gone back and
- 45:19played. I mean, I've meant to for a
- 45:22while, especially with the remake, but it's just something
- 45:25that seems to always slip my mind when I'm have that free
- 45:29time to play something that I'm not already invested in.
- 45:33It's tough to get into though, man.
- 45:34It's it's very, very tough. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:40So yeah, that's I, I don't have anything to add to that, but it
- 45:44sounds like an incredible villain.
- 45:46And I, I knew I know of that villain, right?
- 45:50But it's not something I have any, any attachment to.
- 45:56The funny thing is when when we start going through this, these
- 45:59lists, I sit here and you don't spend a bunch of time preparing
- 46:04for this and trying to or not a bunch of time, but enough time
- 46:07to make sure that my list is like well-rounded and
- 46:09everything. I literally just thought of
- 46:10somebody that I would put on here.
- 46:13Throw them in. Like, yeah, they they don't
- 46:15really fit into my list, so I guess they're going to go into
- 46:17the honorable mention, but Louise Gila Burn from metaphor
- 46:22Repantasia. OK, fantastic villain,
- 46:27completely like shrouded and power and fucking just insane.
- 46:31But that's neither here. Nor Albert Wesker.
- 46:33I'll throw him in there too. Our.
- 46:36Our last minute honorable mention that we thought of after
- 46:39the fact. Son of a bitch.
- 46:42So we are down to #1 and #1 is one that I can't say too much
- 46:48about because a certain somebody is playing through this game
- 46:52currently. This is going to be for No way
- 46:57it's expedition 33. It absolutely is Expedition 30.
- 47:00Three. Wow.
- 47:02I don't even know if I want to say the name quite frankly,
- 47:05because where you are at in this game, you have only experienced
- 47:10this character once. Is it the old man?
- 47:14Yes. I thought that was like future
- 47:16me or like. I'm not saying shit, I'm just
- 47:21saying that old man. So the OK, so you want to do
- 47:25code name that old man from Expedition 33?
- 47:29Sure. I don't want to injure you, no.
- 47:32No, no, no, no, no. It's fine.
- 47:37Anybody who's played through it will under stand I, I, I will
- 47:41tiptoe around it. That man, that old man, is
- 47:47fucking terrifying every single time you encounter.
- 47:52Him the first, the first time I went, oh, it's just like an old
- 47:55whoa. Oh yeah, that that initial beach
- 47:58scene, I was sitting here playing it and I'm like, Oh
- 48:03yeah, yeah, we're on our way to see, to go kill the painters.
- 48:06And I was like what the fuck is happened?
- 48:09Just in an instant. Chaos, chaos as soon as you step
- 48:13onto that island and there will be more encounters that you will
- 48:20have with this character and I, I, like I said, I am going to
- 48:26tiptoe around it, but holy shit it is.
- 48:31He's a big Batty. Yeah.
- 48:36Fuck, wow. You're like sitting here going,
- 48:38Oh, yeah, yeah. So did I can't it's it's a it's
- 48:48a hard 1 to tiptoe around. I'm not going to say he's
- 48:51necessarily the hardest boss in the game because he's not.
- 48:54He's just simply is not what he is is I am referring more to his
- 49:03character. OK, it is that being said, yeah,
- 49:11I, I can't, I'm just it is a very it is one that I do not
- 49:18want to spoil for you because it is a very special feeling.
- 49:20And I also don't want to spoil it for other people that have
- 49:22not finished it because this game is still relatively new and
- 49:25it's a relatively long game. And if people have not beat it,
- 49:29I don't want to spoil that. The rest of what we talked about
- 49:32here has been out for a long time and and you, you if you
- 49:37were going to beat it, you probably have this is probably.
- 49:39Some of these games, yeah. This is the newest of of the
- 49:44villains on this list and yeah, holy shit, man, I I almost said
- 49:51his name initially, and I'm glad I tiptoed around it because I
- 49:54don't even want to spoil that. I don't want to spoil a fucking
- 49:56thing about this for you because I want you to continue this
- 49:58game. I love it.
- 49:59I want you to enjoy it and I want you to see the moments
- 50:03unfold without being spoiled because I was talking about one
- 50:06of my favorite villains from my game.
- 50:08That being said, if anybody wants to hit me up, I'm more
- 50:12than happy to talk about this person, this fucking old man
- 50:17and, and we can absolutely have that conversation.
- 50:20I hate to have my number one be a little lackluster as far as my
- 50:25explanation of it, but you you find out motives and everything
- 50:29else and it is a very humanizing look at, to or at a villain that
- 50:40really gives you a lot of mixed feelings.
- 50:44Let's just say that. I am so too too too clear the
- 50:49air. I loved my initial play.
- 50:53Two hour 2 1/2 hours of play with Expedition.
- 50:57It's been a couple busy weeks here and I intend to get right
- 51:00back into it because I loved playing what I was playing.
- 51:03I cannot wait to talk more about this character with Brody
- 51:06because I cannot wait to play more on stream.
- 51:08And I'm hoping to get live this weekend to play a little bit
- 51:11more and then in the next week because I really like to start
- 51:13diving in and playing more and more and more and being in this
- 51:17game because I, I do think what I am playing is very special.
- 51:20I think the game is beautiful and I cannot wait to learn more
- 51:24about this character. Yes, it's yeah, I, I, I hope
- 51:30that serves as motivation. It's fuel in a way.
- 51:35It's definitely a fuel because I looked at him and I had my own
- 51:38thoughts, obviously. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:42And I, I, I yeah, I'm not going to say anything else.
- 51:44I I just can't. I simply cannot.
- 51:47Fuck. Well, shit.
- 51:51It's up to me. Eh?
- 51:53All right. I don't know.
- 51:56Higgs. Death Stranding I had throw them
- 51:58in there, God damn it. I it, it always happens that
- 52:01way, right? You get like right down to your
- 52:03number one and something just goes merp.
- 52:06It's like, how did you, how did you, how did you not put Higgs
- 52:09in there? He's like a bad baddie,
- 52:11Especially in two, Especially in two.
- 52:12Oh my God, it's like. Louise was that character from
- 52:16metaphor, right? Like that, That character was
- 52:19wild the whole time you're going through and you're like, oh
- 52:23shit. I can't believe.
- 52:24Honestly. The reason I thought of it is
- 52:26the person I talked to the most about that game was Steve, and
- 52:29Steve sent me a message on Discord and it popped up and I
- 52:31go, motherfucker, I've failed him.
- 52:34Yes, my number one. Do you have any guesses?
- 52:43It'll. Probably be pretty obvious once
- 52:47I say it. Yeah, once you say it, I'm sure
- 52:49I it'll click, but. G man Half life.
- 52:54This is the elusive character. This is the elusive baddie who
- 52:57is not in your face. He's scary because he's in the
- 53:00background. You know, he's puppeteering, you
- 53:03know he's the root cause and playing chess with the world and
- 53:08playing chess with you in the Combine and the Vortigaunts and
- 53:12the resistance. And you know, there's not too
- 53:15much he's able to touch because of his, you know, his
- 53:20benefactors and all that stuff. But knowing that he is there,
- 53:25there are times in the game when you can look up at like a
- 53:28walkway and there's G man, you can look into a camera and he's
- 53:31just sitting there like this looking up at you and there you
- 53:35just you know, and then it gets further into the series and then
- 53:39the vortigaunts are holding him off with the vortessence and
- 53:44it's just like, holy shit, you're like he is powerful, but
- 53:49out half of Alex cracks that egg because he's in the containment
- 53:53zone and then you release him and then it sets off motion for
- 53:57everything else to come. And it's like, wow, this is
- 54:00insane, Like this is truly madding, like how just powerful
- 54:04this this character is like G man was always a scary figure to
- 54:08me. It is that that government
- 54:12official with the soulless eyes, the man in black.
- 54:15It is the man in the background who you don't see calling the
- 54:18shots, but you look at him and you know he's calling the shots.
- 54:22G man is important. And I I think for gaming, G man
- 54:25is very important. That game is very important,
- 54:28right? But this character itself is
- 54:30like, yes, Doctor Breen is the villain, but G Man is the
- 54:37villain. Yeah.
- 54:39And it's like that is great. Yeah, that's a that's a great
- 54:42pull. I should have known that.
- 54:43I don't know, I'll blame it on the cold.
- 54:46I don't know, a little bit of brain fog going on here.
- 54:49But yeah, fantastic pick G man, even I'm not like a massive Half
- 54:55Life fan right now. And not saying I don't like it.
- 54:57I just, I really need to go back and play through it.
- 55:02But yeah, I mean, even if you have never played a Half Life
- 55:06game, you know who G Man is. If you saw a picture of G Man,
- 55:10you know who G Man is? Yeah, dude, yeah, that's a,
- 55:13that's a, that's a good call for sure.
- 55:15And really on brand, if I do say so.
- 55:19Yeah, I'm very predictable. I did not predict Bowser to be
- 55:23in your list though, so I mean. Love Bowser.
- 55:26Yeah. Loves that kid.
- 55:27Every chance I get to try to get land into like buy a Bowser
- 55:31anything to eventually put on my shelf, I am always because I I
- 55:36love that character. Same with neocortex.
- 55:38Like I remember having a neocortex figure from KB toys,
- 55:42KB toys and it's just like this neocortex figure, it was this
- 55:47big and like the head was huge and I was so stoked and my dog
- 55:50ate it. I was really fucking pissed.
- 55:54Oh my God. Oh, cyber demon doom.
- 55:57Yeah, Cyber Demon's a good one. Yeah, I'm sure I'm going to
- 56:00think of like 6 more after we hop off of this episode.
- 56:04God damn well. It's the way it goes.
- 56:07Well, great picks though, Brody, fucking great picks.
- 56:09I love doing those top fives, dude, we are, we have, we have
- 56:13lists of top fives. We're going to do guys.
- 56:15We are, we have, we have lists. We have so many episode topics
- 56:20that you know when Brody can't do it, Evan's going to be
- 56:22grabbing a topic. I'm talking to final boss while
- 56:24hopping on for a very cool episode about Space Marine and
- 56:27where we think, you know, Evan and final boss Eric, where where
- 56:31where we think the series is going to go in three.
- 56:33That's going to be a very fucking cool episode.
- 56:36Brody and I have our top fives are fucking topics that me and
- 56:39Brody get to rant about going to pull more people on spawn camp
- 56:42on to do this. We should pull more people on
- 56:44the top fives, honestly. And we have more time.
- 56:46We're not sick. And I, as soon as I end this
- 56:48call, I'm running upstairs and washing my face with cold water.
- 56:51I'm fucking burning up right now.
- 56:53Yeah, and me too. Fuck.
- 56:56Is there anything else you want to add to to our lists or
- 56:59anything like that before I close this out?
- 57:03No, not really. Like I'm sick, let me go.
- 57:07I, I think it's interesting that most of our villains are older
- 57:12and some of that could be attributed to nostalgia.
- 57:15But I really think that a lot of the area that we or the era that
- 57:21we covered is, was really a very pivotal point for gaming when we
- 57:27were like, oh, hey, we can actually do better stories.
- 57:32We can do things of that nature, right?
- 57:34We can actually have a villain rather than just go over here
- 57:38and make it to the end type of thing, right?
- 57:40And so I, I think a lot of the reason that those villains stand
- 57:44out so much is because they were so influential.
- 57:47Not that we don't get good villains and games today, right?
- 57:51We did, we absolutely do. But they are very coded and
- 57:54influenced by a lot of these characters that came before,
- 57:58right? There are a lot of villains I
- 58:02think today that share the same DNA but don't quite hit the
- 58:06mark. I think what we got, not to be
- 58:09those old guys, but what we got in the early, late, early, late
- 58:1290s, early late 2000s was really like 2005, man.
- 58:17You want to talk about a year for gaming?
- 58:19That is arguably the best year for gaming.
- 58:22Yeah, like the best, the literal best.
- 58:25And those villains from any and all games you can pick from in
- 58:29that era of gaming, It's just like, holy shit.
- 58:32Like the creativity was flowing, the games were fun and good and
- 58:35didn't rely off don't microtransactions and things
- 58:39like that Don't Let's not get there.
- 58:41But like, yeah, dude, that's why these lists, if you look at a
- 58:45lot of people's lists, it's going to be villains from 30
- 58:48years ago, 20 years ago, 15 years ago.
- 58:51It's not it's not a lot of courage.
- 58:52You chose Clare UPS villain from Clare Obscure, but that's
- 58:54because that game has the DNA of a game that was built and made
- 58:58back then where the story mattered.
- 59:01It wasn't like, hey, let's sell a million copies.
- 59:03It'd be great if we could, but let's make the game that we want
- 59:06to make. Let's make the baddies.
- 59:08Let's make a movie but a game and have the player experience
- 59:12everything. And that's important.
- 59:15Like when you get these villains, even like the cutesy
- 59:17villains like Bowser and and Cortex, it's still something
- 59:21about them where, you know, they're baddies, you know,
- 59:23they're goofy. You just love that villain.
- 59:26It's like, no, you're a bad guy, but I love you for it.
- 59:30Yeah, you know, absolutely. So no.
- 59:33Great picks all around. I love it.
- 59:34I love the make up here. I love the differences and also
- 59:37the similarities to our list. Yeah.
- 59:40Because there's a lot of our games that piggybacked off each
- 59:41other and it's like, yeah, no shit.
- 59:44Like no shit. We're old guys now.
- 59:49Thank you all so much for checking this episode out again.
- 59:52We love doing our top fives. It's such a fucking fun time.
