- 0:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: So I'm Adam Damiko. I play guitar and Lorna Shore
- 0:03Speaker 2: and we are coming to Australia and New Zealand in
- 0:06Speaker 2: October with Whitechapel and The Acacia Strain. I don't know
- 0:10Speaker 2: all the dates off the back of my hand, but
- 0:12Speaker 2: I know we're gonna be there in October. That's all
- 0:14Speaker 2: I know.
- 0:16Speaker 1: That'll do.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us today, well, thank you for having
- 0:21Speaker 2: me perfectly.
- 0:22Speaker 3: My pleasure as the same or show return to Australia
- 0:25Speaker 3: later this year for a run of headline shows, kicking
- 0:27Speaker 3: off in Melbourne on October sixteenth, before hitting Adelaide, Perth,
- 0:30Speaker 3: Sydney and Brisbane and heading out in New Zealand to
- 0:33Speaker 3: play Wellington and Auburn.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So what the lights have you got in store for
- 0:37Speaker 1: us the stone around?
- 0:40Speaker 2: I haven't thought that too far into it, other than
- 0:42Speaker 2: that we're going on tour with with these bands and
- 0:44Speaker 2: we're going here at this time of the year. After that,
- 0:46Speaker 2: I mean, I haven't even touched upon that. With all
- 0:48Speaker 2: this busy touring we have this year, I'm kind of
- 0:50Speaker 2: worried about the next tour we have going on. So
- 0:52Speaker 2: that's why I don't You could ask me, maybe in
- 0:55Speaker 2: a couple of weeks that might field to give you
- 0:56Speaker 2: a better answer.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It all, and it's going to are your third visit
- 1:00Speaker 1: to a Strier? Yes, yes, Well why do you think
- 1:04Speaker 1: it connects so well with audiences?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like we owe them a debt, is
- 1:07Speaker 2: what I was saying before. We probably with someone some money.
- 1:14Speaker 2: That's why we keep returning so quickly. But uh no, honestly,
- 1:16Speaker 2: it's been awesome. It's been it's been awesome. Every single
- 1:19Speaker 2: time we've been here, the shows have gotten better. So
- 1:21Speaker 2: I'm hoping that that's kind of the plan for this
- 1:22Speaker 2: tour is to do it bigger than we did the
- 1:25Speaker 2: last time. And the first time we're here was kind
- 1:27Speaker 2: of for a place that we'd never been to to
- 1:30Speaker 2: play to go on sale and all the shows like
- 1:32Speaker 2: basically sold out, and it was like, wow, we were
- 1:34Speaker 2: none of us were expecting that. It's like someone we've
- 1:36Speaker 2: never been to. It took us a while to sell
- 1:39Speaker 2: out those type of rooms, and even like Europe in
- 1:41Speaker 2: our own you know, you know, backyard, so that existed
- 1:44Speaker 2: on our first go around. It's like, well, maybe we
- 1:46Speaker 2: should return. People seem to be interested in hearing us,
- 1:48Speaker 2: and then we came back for festivals and that went
- 1:51Speaker 2: over amazingly. Minus the heat still is great though, So yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 2: it just it's just more so overturning where where people
- 1:58Speaker 2: seem to want you so it it seems to be
- 2:00Speaker 2: on this long sixteen hour flight to Australia, it seems
- 2:04Speaker 2: to be where people want us to return to.
- 2:10Speaker 3: You do mention like you start that you can't reach
- 2:12Speaker 3: twenty twenty five choice, it's matching a good thing festival.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So this time's going to be playing arenas and much
- 2:17Speaker 3: bigger stadiums by the John Paynterena and the Warden Pavilions.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So depressions on this time.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Man, Yeah, thankfully because earlier this year we've done some
- 2:26Speaker 2: pretty big arenas in Europe. We have a little bit
- 2:28Speaker 2: of experience with this. If you would asked us maybe
- 2:30Speaker 2: last year when our first time in twenty twenty five
- 2:33Speaker 2: in Australia, I would think we would have been like,
- 2:34Speaker 2: we're not ready for it. But because we have a
- 2:36Speaker 2: little bit of experience with it, I think we might be. Okay,
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'll cross my fingers hope for the best. But I
- 2:41Speaker 2: think because we have we've done a tour similar to
- 2:45Speaker 2: these similar sized rooms in Europe. I feel like it.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I think we have a little bit of experience in
- 2:51Speaker 2: these size rooms, but it's still exciting. Nonetheless, doesn't the
- 2:54Speaker 2: thrill isn't gone, and it still isn't nerve wrecking. But
- 2:57Speaker 2: I feel like they think we're a little more ready
- 2:59Speaker 2: than and I think we would have anticipated a few
- 3:02Speaker 2: years ago.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And do you think all this show is going to
- 3:05Speaker 1: be because you're playing in the bigger ring, is like
- 3:06Speaker 1: you're gonna have most sites production and most site.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, always, always, yeah. I think I think we're
- 3:12Speaker 2: always trying to like fill up the stage as much
- 3:14Speaker 2: as we can. It seems like.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You play it like a pretty grueling, physically demanding set
- 3:22Speaker 3: with relentless right down heavy from start to finish. Man
- 3:26Speaker 3: like get the diructure of the set list si that
- 3:28Speaker 3: everyone gets a bit of time and decompressor in the
- 3:30Speaker 3: show or the this guy guy guy.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, there definitely is like songs that we will be
- 3:35Speaker 2: like we will not start off the set with it
- 3:37Speaker 2: because we're not warmed up or or we definitely try
- 3:40Speaker 2: to curate a set that kind of like eggs and flows,
- 3:43Speaker 2: not only like ebbs and flows as far as like
- 3:45Speaker 2: with the crowd because I feel like if it was
- 3:46Speaker 2: just non stop from beginning to end, I think people
- 3:48Speaker 2: will get fatigued, not only just us, but I think
- 3:51Speaker 2: even the crowd. I think by because we have I
- 3:54Speaker 2: think like a dense catalog and we kind of interchange
- 3:57Speaker 2: between different sounds and styles throughout the the set and
- 4:01Speaker 2: our album that has different things, I feel like we're
- 4:03Speaker 2: able to intertwine that into the set. So it kind
- 4:06Speaker 2: of curious a set that kind of gives us a
- 4:08Speaker 2: little bit of a reprieve sometimes or has a little
- 4:10Speaker 2: bit of a break here, or Okay, this song is
- 4:13Speaker 2: a little bit of a break though this next song
- 4:14Speaker 2: that's challenging, you know, we could be prepared for that,
- 4:17Speaker 2: or the song that's really challenging, the next song is
- 4:19Speaker 2: kind of a little bit easier. So I think we
- 4:21Speaker 2: try curating a set that kind of works better for
- 4:23Speaker 2: us because but you know, uh, thankfully we have a
- 4:28Speaker 2: little bit of diversity in our songs that a lot
- 4:30Speaker 2: that caters towards that especially, you know, comparable two years
- 4:32Speaker 2: ago when it was just go, go go, but we
- 4:34Speaker 2: played a shorter set, so it wasn't as bad when
- 4:36Speaker 2: you're playing like an hour and some change an hour
- 4:38Speaker 2: and a half. It's a long it's a long, brutal set,
- 4:41Speaker 2: especially with some music we play, it's very physically demanding.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's very exhausting, I'll say the very least.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Man, you usually relies on a lot of cinematics
- 4:50Speaker 3: and orchestrationia for impact.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Is it difficult to replicate those sounds in emotions live?
- 4:55Speaker 2: No, I would say, I would say it doesn't. I
- 4:57Speaker 2: think what it does is it gives because a lot
- 4:59Speaker 2: of stuff that we you in the orchestra is what
- 5:01Speaker 2: was is existing on guitar and and and drums and
- 5:05Speaker 2: the music anyway. The orchestra is just more so an
- 5:08Speaker 2: enhancement of that, and they work with each other. I think,
- 5:10Speaker 2: you know, having a good front of house that can
- 5:12Speaker 2: get that stuff to come to come across as great.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But also I think it's also cool because I feel
- 5:16Speaker 2: like kind of our sound live you more so hear
- 5:19Speaker 2: the band, and I feel like that emotion is still present,
- 5:23Speaker 2: still present, and still there, like a lot of stuff
- 5:25Speaker 2: that you hear in the orchestra were we're still playing
- 5:27Speaker 2: on guitar anyway, So I feel like it's still present.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I still think the emotion has still come across, and
- 5:33Speaker 2: I think realistically, like you can simplify all these ideas
- 5:36Speaker 2: down to just someone playing it on two hands on
- 5:39Speaker 2: the piano anyway. So I feel like if a lot
- 5:41Speaker 2: of these ideas are kind of if you could do
- 5:43Speaker 2: it with two hands on the piano, I think just
- 5:45Speaker 2: expanding it across all the other instruments I still think
- 5:48Speaker 2: has the same effect in my in my opinion, maybe
- 5:50Speaker 2: maybe I'm maybe I'm wrong, but I still I like
- 5:52Speaker 2: to think that you still have the same emotional reaction
- 5:54Speaker 2: that you would, you know, without having a full orchestra
- 5:57Speaker 2: behind us.
- 5:58Speaker 3: So yeah, and as you said before, man, then most
- 6:03Speaker 3: people have agreed, like you've assembled one of the heaviest
- 6:05Speaker 3: touring lineups in recent memory with White Chapelin, The Acacias,
- 6:08Speaker 3: Stranger On and You're Light.
- 6:10Speaker 1: What makes those two bands the perfect touring partners?
- 6:14Speaker 2: I mean, I think there are bands that we like
- 6:16Speaker 2: and we've we've grown up listening to and we still
- 6:18Speaker 2: just enjoy Like we've toured with both those bands before,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and it's enjoyable to have them both on the road.
- 6:24Speaker 2: We've had them on different on different shows, on different tours,
- 6:27Speaker 2: but it's just awesome because I feel like they are
- 6:30Speaker 2: a heavy band that is currently doing heavy things and
- 6:33Speaker 2: it's really awesome, and I still think that we're like
- 6:35Speaker 2: still amped up by heavy music. We've been on tour
- 6:37Speaker 2: with Whitechapel earlier this year in Europe and they're just
- 6:40Speaker 2: great to be on the road with. And we did
- 6:42Speaker 2: a short run with the Acacia Strain and I feel
- 6:44Speaker 2: like it was just really short and I wish it
- 6:46Speaker 2: was longer. And they've you know, I think I've been
- 6:48Speaker 2: doing awesome since that point in time. So what better
- 6:51Speaker 2: band to have on the road with us? You know?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:54Speaker 3: Oh man, and you're a left most recent album I
- 6:57Speaker 3: feel that ever black festering within me in September last year.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So was it received as well as you'd hope?
- 7:04Speaker 2: I like to think so yeah, I like to think
- 7:06Speaker 2: so I hope so I hope so yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You know, you get a talk man like it frequently
- 7:16Speaker 3: switches between complex text get ribs and storing cinematic landscapes
- 7:20Speaker 3: and melodies. How do you find the balance between those
- 7:23Speaker 3: things in the creative process?
- 7:25Speaker 1: But how do you know when you're going too far
- 7:26Speaker 1: one way or not far in another way?
- 7:29Speaker 2: I don't think you could ever go too far. I
- 7:30Speaker 2: think I feel like you know, because we're all fans
- 7:35Speaker 2: of music. I think when you're writing music, you just
- 7:37Speaker 2: got to use your ear and just be your best judge,
- 7:40Speaker 2: you know. Like I think for me, I'd be like,
- 7:41Speaker 2: it's not going too far. Maybe somebody else in a
- 7:45Speaker 2: different way would be like that is too far for me.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And I think that's what makes every band an artists unique,
- 7:49Speaker 2: is because the decisions and the choices you would make
- 7:52Speaker 2: within the creative process. But I think you can ever
- 7:55Speaker 2: go too far. I believe going over the top is
- 7:58Speaker 2: this kind of part of the nature of this and
- 8:00Speaker 2: I think that's a I think that's served us well
- 8:02Speaker 2: so far. So I feel like, why why not? Uh,
- 8:05Speaker 2: why alter that if you will? But Yeah, for me,
- 8:09Speaker 2: I just think that, Uh, I just feel like we
- 8:12Speaker 2: can just push the envelope as far as we wish
- 8:14Speaker 2: to and then uh, you know, who's who's who's telling
- 8:17Speaker 2: us not to?
- 8:17Speaker 1: You know, oh man, thank oh. And you're setting the posits.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Cinematic video games scores heavily inspire your orchestration and narrativen
- 8:25Speaker 3: on album lit When when been through that, men like
- 8:28Speaker 3: you actually actively go out looking for something like that,
- 8:31Speaker 3: or does the inspiration hit you while you're playing games,
- 8:33Speaker 3: or why you're watching something.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Or I think I think the inspiration hits definitely, like
- 8:38Speaker 2: whenever I've been watching something, because there's many times I'm
- 8:41Speaker 2: watching a movie or a TV show and I've had
- 8:43Speaker 2: to like bring out my notes app on my phone
- 8:46Speaker 2: just like right down like the TV show and like
- 8:49Speaker 2: maybe the episode because like sometimes like there's been times
- 8:53Speaker 2: for like on a on a on a soundtrack for
- 8:54Speaker 2: a TV show or a movie, like they may have
- 8:56Speaker 2: like a scene or something like that or or or whatnot,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but then somebody's eve by playing video games, be playing
- 9:01Speaker 2: it like oh, I like hearing that sound, like hearing
- 9:03Speaker 2: that theme. So it's not like I don't think it's
- 9:04Speaker 2: actively looking. I think actively looking for something, I feel
- 9:07Speaker 2: like you're gonna kind of fall flat in your face.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I think the best time inspiration kind of comes is
- 9:11Speaker 2: like when you're not expecting it. So sometimes you might
- 9:13Speaker 2: just be just watching a movie with your partner, not
- 9:16Speaker 2: wanting to think about music, and then you hear a
- 9:18Speaker 2: score you're a motif, and you're like, that's really awesome,
- 9:21Speaker 2: and like I enjoy that, And that has happened to
- 9:23Speaker 2: me more often than it has if I've if I've
- 9:25Speaker 2: actually been like today, I'm gonna find this sound. I
- 9:28Speaker 2: feel like I've never I've struggled with it and whenever
- 9:30Speaker 2: it's kind of come to me just when by not
- 9:32Speaker 2: looking forward is what I find it was when I
- 9:33Speaker 2: found it.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So yeah, cool man. And do you remember the first
- 9:36Speaker 1: time you ever heard one of your songs on radio?
- 9:38Speaker 1: And what song was it?
- 9:39Speaker 2: And way way Yeah, Oh my god, that is so funny.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That was that actually is crazy. That was like twenty fourteen.
- 9:46Speaker 2: We put out one of her epiece called Malfysium, and
- 9:48Speaker 2: the big song off of that was the song called
- 9:50Speaker 2: god Maker. And we have like a we have like
- 9:54Speaker 2: a small indie like metal label in New Jersey called
- 9:58Speaker 2: se Seenhall's Pier Radio WS. They've played all like the
- 10:01Speaker 2: heavier music. And I remember I was leaving a bar
- 10:04Speaker 2: and you know it's one of my like my my
- 10:07Speaker 2: preset stations and my old car or whatnot. I'm saying,
- 10:10Speaker 2: coming through the stations or whatever, because I think my
- 10:13Speaker 2: phone was dead, so I was waiting for to turn
- 10:14Speaker 2: on so I could listen to actual the music I
- 10:16Speaker 2: want to listen to. And I'm sitting there like I
- 10:18Speaker 2: scrolled through and I'm like this sounds like it took me,
- 10:22Speaker 2: ironically enough, took me way too long that I'm willing
- 10:24Speaker 2: to admit. But I'm sitting there listening, I'm like, this
- 10:26Speaker 2: sounds awfully familiar, like what band is this? What band
- 10:30Speaker 2: is this? And I'm like, oh my god. And then
- 10:32Speaker 2: ironically I did one of those like you know tags,
- 10:35Speaker 2: because we didn't I didn't interview, and I did one
- 10:37Speaker 2: of those things and it was like, this is Adam
- 10:39Speaker 2: from Lorna show and you're listening to whatever and you
- 10:41Speaker 2: heard that after after the song, and I was like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: oh my god, I am so stupid, Like this is
- 10:46Speaker 2: literally I had to like I had to introduce the
- 10:48Speaker 2: song almost to myself, or like I had to do
- 10:50Speaker 2: the closing of the song as myself and heard on
- 10:53Speaker 2: the radio, which was kind of crazy. But yeah, that
- 10:55Speaker 2: was the first time I was like back at twenty fourteen,
- 10:57Speaker 2: it wasn't expected. It was like I didn't even know
- 10:59Speaker 2: that was gonna beyond the radiocause it's all these other
- 11:01Speaker 2: bands I've heard before. I was expecting our band to
- 11:04Speaker 2: be there. And yeah, I remember it took me like
- 11:06Speaker 2: a little a period of time and I was like, well,
- 11:07Speaker 2: this sounds way too for me, just like who is this?
- 11:10Speaker 2: This sounds way to this is kind of cool, like
- 11:11Speaker 2: this is who is Like Wow, this is the band
- 11:15Speaker 2: I'm in? This is embarrassing. Thankfully, Thankfully I was in
- 11:19Speaker 2: the car by myself and I didn't embarrass myself. So yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 2: well you have now, Yeah, exactly exactly. It's too it's
- 11:25Speaker 2: too late, but.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't know. Thanks very much for your time, bro.
- 11:29Speaker 3: The band are in Australia from October sixteenth, kicking off
- 11:32Speaker 3: in Melbourne with The Hatred Strain and White Chuffles. The
- 11:35Speaker 3: thanks to you time made and enjoy everything between now
- 11:37Speaker 3: and then we'll see.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Thank you for having me
