Transcript
- 0:08KT: Welcome everyone to the Women and Money podcast, and everyone
- 0:11KT: smart enough to listen.
- 0:13Suze: What's your name?
- 0:13KT: This is KT.
- 0:14Suze: This is Suze.
- 0:16KT: Listen to her voice.
- 0:17Suze: Do you recognize her voices everybody?
- 0:21KT: No.
- 0:21KT: OK, both of us have pretty froggy voices.
- 0:23Suze: First of all, it's October 25th, and today, before we
- 0:26Suze: even start, is Mike Axler's birthday. KT.
- 0:30KT: Oh, Mike, I wish I could bring you a big
- 0:33KT: key line pie.
- 0:34Suze: Mike is one of the greatest men God ever put
- 0:38Suze: on this earth.
- 0:39KT: We love him.
- 0:39Suze: We love him. So Mike, happy, happy birthday. All right.
- 0:44Suze: Because you gotta always put people first, KT. So today
- 0:48Suze: is the first day in two weeks that I've been
- 0:53Suze: able to talk. I haven't had a voice...
- 0:55KT: And she doesn't sound that great.
- 0:57Suze: I haven't had a voice at all for two weeks,
- 1:00Suze: and I'm like, KT, are we gonna be able to
- 1:03Suze: do a podcast? Am I gonna be able to do
- 1:05Suze: this webinar tomorrow or the next day that I'm supposed
- 1:08Suze: to do? It's like, oh my God, but we have
- 1:11Suze: a story that we want to tell you.
- 1:14Suze: And it's a story about a lesson that I have
- 1:18Suze: been teaching all of you now for so many years,
- 1:22Suze: which is people first, then money, then things, and do
- 1:28Suze: you all remember when I say people first.
- 1:32Suze: I always tell you that means you. Well, I was
- 1:36Suze: put to that test just a few weeks ago.
- 1:40KT: In Istanbul.
- 1:42Suze: Take it away, KT.
- 1:43KT: So Suze and I start this journey and we go
- 1:47KT: from LA to Istanbul, 15 hour flight. We get to
- 1:52KT: Istanbul basically to rest before she was to go on
- 1:56KT: to Kenya in Nairobi.
- 1:59KT: In order to meet and greet and speak to a
- 2:03KT: number of incredible women that she's been teaching for about
- 2:07KT: three years now.
- 2:08Suze: Now, wait, put a pin in that for a second.
- 2:10Suze: The whole purpose for this trip really was to celebrate
- 2:15Suze: the 20th anniversary of the Global Give Back Circle, which
- 2:20Suze: Linda Lockhart, again, the most extraordinary woman you'd ever want
- 2:24Suze: to meet, created 20 years ago.
- 2:29Suze: And she has been working to give back to everybody,
- 2:34Suze: especially in third world countries. Three years ago, Linda and
- 2:39Suze: I got together and we created something called the "Her
- 2:44Suze: Financial Freedom Program," and we started it in West Pocot, Kenya,
- 2:51Suze: with 700 women to teach them about financial freedom.
- 2:59Suze: And we've been doing this, we created a course for them,
- 3:03Suze: all of this, and it worked incredibly.
- 3:06Suze: So from there we decided, oh let's take it through Africa.
- 3:12Suze: So this event in Nairobi was for me to meet
- 3:18Suze: and speak to all the women in Kenya who have
- 3:23Suze: been the mentors to all these women throughout the country
- 3:29Suze: for the Global Give Back circle, and it was a
- 3:33Suze: big event.
- 3:34Suze: Because Suze Orman was coming to Kenya and all of
- 3:40Suze: a sudden their attendance skyrocketed. There was buzz everywhere. CNBC
- 3:47Suze: and everybody was to be there. It was a huge event.
- 3:52Suze: So KT and I thought, all right, let's get on
- 3:54Suze: the same time zone as Kenya because Istanbul happens to
- 3:59Suze: be the same time zone.
- 4:02Suze: So that's why we did that because when I arrived
- 4:05Suze: in Kenya, I would be hitting the ground running. All right, KT.
- 4:11KT: She hit a wall instead. We're in Istanbul. We had
- 4:17KT: the best three days of our life. We loved...
- 4:21Suze: And I, I discovered a donner.
- 4:25KT: A donner. Do you all know what a donner is?
- 4:28Suze: How can you hear them talk to you? This is
- 4:29Suze: a podcast.
- 4:30KT: I know, but I'm asking them a question. I didn't
- 4:33KT: actually know what a donner was. I, I knew what
- 4:36KT: it was, but I didn't know the name Donner. So
- 4:39KT: a donner is a delicious Turkish wrap made with a
- 4:43KT: very thin lavage bread toasted, and it's sliced with, I guess, a, um,
- 4:49KT: a spiced meat.
- 4:51KT: And they slice it and it's served with pickles and
- 4:54KT: lettuce and anyway, this wrap, this little donner is like
- 4:59KT: a snack people have street food. Suze loved it.
- 5:03Suze: My favorite meal there. But anyway, off topic anyway, go
- 5:07Suze: back KT.
- 5:08KT: So we're in Istanbul having the time of our life,
- 5:12KT: loving the harbor, the people, the food, the mezza, everything.
- 5:17KT: Suze has this scratchy throat coming on.
- 5:21KT: And we know that the next day we have to
- 5:23KT: leave to go to Kenya.
- 5:25Suze: So I'm thinking, OK, it'll get better. I'm taking the
- 5:28Suze: little herbs and things I always bring with...
- 5:30KT: Lots of honey.
- 5:31Suze: ...right, but all night long I'm coughing and I'm coughing
- 5:35Suze: and I'm coughing.
- 5:37Suze: And I wake up the next morning and I know
- 5:41Suze: I have to check in because we're leaving at 6:30
- 5:45Suze: that day for Kenya.
- 5:48Suze: And I know I can't disappoint them, and I am
- 5:53Suze: not feeling well at all. I've developed a fever, and
- 5:57Suze: I'm like, oh my God. So I say to KT KT,
- 6:01Suze: what do you think?
- 6:03KT: And I said, Suze, we've come this far you can
- 6:06KT: probably give it a shot maybe we just try. We've
- 6:10KT: got to give it a shot, Susie and she's getting
- 6:13KT: worse and worse.
- 6:14Suze: And of course all we're thinking about at that moment,
- 6:18Suze: oh my God, I can't disappoint them. In my entire career,
- 6:25Suze: I have never missed a talk except once, and that
- 6:29Suze: was because it was a snowstorm and nobody could even
- 6:32Suze: get to the venue that I was supposed to speak at.
- 6:36Suze: So why even go to it? That's the only time
- 6:41Suze: and I'm thinking, oh, Suze, in your past you've performed
- 6:45Suze: in South Africa with 103 fever to 12,000 people.
- 6:51KT: She's done the Suze Orman Show over and over again,
- 6:53KT: really sick.
- 6:54Suze: And I've done QVC one hour of live TV with
- 6:58Suze: horrible vertigo, and I'm like I can do this. I
- 7:02Suze: can do anything.
- 7:05Suze: And then the time is going on, and I go,
- 7:07Suze: all right, we're gonna do it. And I literally check
- 7:10Suze: in online and get our tickets. So now we're all
- 7:15Suze: ready to go, and it's 9:00 a.m. at this point
- 7:19Suze: in time.
- 7:21Suze: And all of a sudden I'm thinking to myself, people first,
- 7:26Suze: meaning you, Suze Orman, then money, then things.
- 7:32Suze: And I decided, Suze, you are 75 years of age.
- 7:38Suze: Doesn't matter what you used to be able to do.
- 7:42Suze: What matters is right now what is the smart thing
- 7:47Suze: for you to do for yourself.
- 7:51Suze: And I made the decision of I'm not going to go.
- 7:57Suze: I can't. It's not wise. I'm going to get sicker,
- 8:02Suze: and I'll probably make everybody else sicker as well.
- 8:05Suze: So I came up with this brilliant idea. That if
- 8:10Suze: we left in two hours from Istanbul and went to
- 8:17Suze: the airport for a 1 p.m. flight, we could make
- 8:21Suze: it back to Florida in time for me to zoom
- 8:26Suze: in at 6 a.m. the next morning. So I picked
- 8:31Suze: up the phone and I called Linda. That was the
- 8:34Suze: hardest phone call I ever had to make.
- 8:37Suze: And I said, Linda, I have to tell you, I
- 8:40Suze: can't do this. And Linda goes, I hear that. I
- 8:44Suze: see that. I can feel that.
- 8:46Suze: Therefore, Let's set up Zoom like you suggested, and we'll
- 8:51Suze: explain it to everybody.
- 8:53Suze: Go on now, KT.
- 8:55KT: OK, so we scramble, we pack, we, we do everything possible.
- 9:01KT: We're in traffic jams. We get out of Istanbul, head
- 9:05KT: to the airport, we make it back on the plane.
- 9:08KT: She takes a 10 hour flight coughing, and I hate
- 9:12KT: to say this, but she really was ill.
- 9:17Suze: Why do you hate to say it?
- 9:17KT: Because I'm sorry if we got people on the plane sick,
- 9:20KT: so that's why I felt bad. She was just beside
- 9:24KT: herself with a fever. We got her home, put her
- 9:28KT: to bed. She wakes up at 4 a.m. KT put
- 9:32KT: my makeup on. I said, What? She said, I have
- 9:35KT: to do this. I said, Suze, you can't even sit.
- 9:39KT: You're gonna faint.
- 9:40KT: Anyway, long story short, we got her makeup on, we
- 9:44KT: put the, the, the studio together, the lights on, cameras,
- 9:48KT: everything's ready. She does a test with Linda's team.
- 9:52KT: Sure enough, she sits there and for two hours gave
- 9:58KT: the most extraordinary, unbelievable, powerful, compelling, compassionate talk I think
- 10:07KT: I have ever heard in years.
- 10:10KT: And here's the thing, people, she didn't cough once, not once.
- 10:16KT: Now here's the clincher soon as it was over.
- 10:22KT: She opens the door, comes out of the studio, and
- 10:26KT: falls into this massive coughing attack and literally almost faints
- 10:31KT: in my arms.
- 10:34Suze: It wasn't that dramatic, KT.
- 10:34KT: We put we put her back to bed.
- 10:37KT: And sure enough, Linda said, Suze, I don't know how
- 10:40KT: you did this, and that's when, people, for the first
- 10:43KT: time I truly believed she was a vessel of God
- 10:48KT: because I don't know how she did two hours with
- 10:52KT: that kind of focus, concentration, and compassion.
- 10:56Suze: But here's the point, everybody, do you know how I
- 10:59Suze: always say everything happens for the best.
- 11:04Suze: Because we zoomed me in... I was actually more powerful
- 11:11Suze: because I was on these huge screens rather than just
- 11:15Suze: me on stage with all these people listening to me.
- 11:20Suze: The talk was even more powerful and do you know
- 11:25Suze: how I posted on the Women and Money Community app
- 11:28Suze: that I had gone from one standing ovation in LA
- 11:32Suze: to a standing ovation in Nairobi. If you look at
- 11:37Suze: that picture, you'll notice that you don't see me because
- 11:41Suze: I saw them standing for me.
- 11:45Suze: Right, and they were obviously facing the screen because I
- 11:50Suze: didn't want all of you at that point to know
- 11:52Suze: that I was sick. We were being protective of everybody,
- 11:56Suze: believe it or not, as to what happened to us.
- 11:59Suze: But here we are, and it was so powerful.
- 12:05Suze: After it was over, a few hours later, Linda wrote
- 12:09Suze: me and she said, there are no words. Everybody said, Suze,
- 12:13Suze: you were absolutely in that room with us, that they
- 12:19Suze: had never experienced anything like that in their lives.
- 12:25Suze: So we made the absolute best choice, not only for
- 12:29Suze: me and KT obviously, but for them as well. Next,
- 12:35Suze: we were supposed to go from Nairobi to Paris.
- 12:41Suze: The problem was if we had done that we would
- 12:45Suze: have been caught in all of the riots that are
- 12:48Suze: going on in France and that are still going on.
- 12:54Suze: So the decision that we made to put ourselves first
- 13:00Suze: because of our health, not because we didn't want to go,
- 13:03Suze: I wanted to go more than you have any idea.
- 13:07Suze: But because we did that.
- 13:11Suze: It turned out better for everybody in Nairobi. It turned
- 13:15Suze: out better for me and KT because we avoided all
- 13:19Suze: of the things going on in France.
- 13:23Suze: And then we came home and guess who I got sick?
- 13:27KT: KT. KT was actually in great shape until we got
- 13:32KT: back here to South Florida and I got really, really sick,
- 13:37KT: but we both were recovered. We're recovering.
- 13:40Suze: KT's doing far better than me.
- 13:41KT: I'm doing much better. Suze takes a little bit longer,
- 13:44KT: but we're both um on the mend. We have lots
- 13:47KT: of homemade chicken soup that I did and all kinds
- 13:51KT: of healthy things. It gave Suze an incredible amount of
- 13:54KT: time in her silence to be communicating and writing back
- 13:58KT: and forth with Linda, with the women, the reactions.
- 14:03KT: Um, she even wrote another course while she was recovering.
- 14:06Suze: For the women there.
- 14:07KT: So everything turned out even better than what we had expected,
- 14:14KT: but we put ourselves first, people first.
- 14:17Suze: Now the reason that we told you this story is
- 14:21Suze: that when you do what's right for yourself, when you
- 14:27Suze: do what's really right for yourself.
- 14:31Suze: Everybody else benefits from it when you do something that
- 14:36Suze: isn't right for yourself. Other people don't benefit. You may
- 14:42Suze: think that they will, but in the long run, I
- 14:45Suze: don't think that's true. That's part of the Suze school today.
- 14:52Suze: I just really wanna also talk to you a little
- 14:55Suze: bit about the markets because I know a lot of
- 14:58Suze: you are seriously freaked out as to oh my God
- 15:03Suze: they were horrible last week. AI crashed. It's going down
- 15:08Suze: and all of you are absolutely afraid again. Here's what
- 15:12Suze: I want to remind you. How many times have I
- 15:16Suze: told you that the market doesn't like inconsistency? It doesn't
- 15:22Suze: like not knowing what's going to happen.
- 15:25Suze: We have essentially one week left until the elections.
- 15:29Suze: Have you ever seen more inconsistency in your life? We're
- 15:34Suze: still going back and forth with Iran, Ukraine. All these
- 15:39Suze: things are still happening out there. Climate.
- 15:45Suze: I think climate is the biggest danger of all right
- 15:48Suze: now if you want to know the truth. It doesn't
- 15:52Suze: matter where you are, whether you're in Arizona, you get
- 15:55Suze: hit by a tornado that never comes to Arizona, South Carolina, Utah, everywhere,
- 16:03Suze: even here in Florida, we're being warned of be careful
- 16:07Suze: of the coastal flooding.
- 16:09Suze: We have all these inconsistencies. Now why am I telling
- 16:14Suze: you that?
- 16:16Suze: Maybe just slow down here. Let's see what's going to happen.
- 16:21Suze: Just let's see. You don't have to think, Oh, the
- 16:25Suze: markets went down. I have to dollar cost average. Now
- 16:28Suze: is the time. No, you don't always have to do something.
- 16:34Suze: Now, I get that it's your optimistic attitude that many
- 16:38Suze: of you want to feel like, oh, the market's gonna
- 16:41Suze: go up, up, up, and we're gonna be OK, and
- 16:44Suze: for some of you, it's your pessimistic attitude that the
- 16:47Suze: markets are gonna go down, down, down.
- 16:52Suze: You have to decide what's right for you. I personally
- 16:56Suze: am just holding to see what is going to go
- 17:01Suze: on with the elections. Is violence going to erupt? There's
- 17:05Suze: nothing wrong with just being patient. But here's one thing
- 17:10Suze: I just want to point out to you. Even though
- 17:14Suze: the Dow and everything was down for the week, do
- 17:17Suze: you know, that if you look at the market for
- 17:21Suze: this entire year, that the Dow Jones Industrial Average is
- 17:26Suze: still up approximately 9%.
- 17:29Suze: The Standard and Poor's 500 is still up more than 11%,
- 17:34Suze: and the NASDAQ, where all your tech stocks are, is
- 17:37Suze: up almost 12%, and the Russell 2000 for small stocks
- 17:43Suze: is up almost 12% as well. So if you looked
- 17:48Suze: at the past 20 days since KT and I were gone,
- 17:51Suze: you might think, oh my God, the market is doing terribly.
- 17:55Suze: But here's the thing, markets are not made in 20 days.
- 18:01Suze: They're not made in the past 10 months. Markets are
- 18:06Suze: made over 10 and 20 years, which is why I
- 18:11Suze: always say to you, you need at least 5 or
- 18:15Suze: 10 years till you need this money to be invested
- 18:20Suze: in the stock markets now things are obviously changing with
- 18:24Suze: these markets in my opinion.
- 18:26Suze: Next week I will do a Suze school just on
- 18:30Suze: the markets. However, for now, I just want you to
- 18:35Suze: be patient and let's just see what happens on November 3rd,
- 18:40Suze: what's happening with Iran, what's happening all over the place, all right?
- 18:44Suze: Now, inconsistency.
- 18:49KT: Many of you want a consistent return on your money.
- 18:55Suze: And many of you wrote in and asked KT and I, please, Suze,
- 19:02Suze: can you ask Alliant to extend the deadline of that
- 19:08Suze: one year certificate that's currently offering 4.45 APY for amounts
- 19:16Suze: under $75,000, minimum obviously is $1,000. Or 4.5 APY for
- 19:24Suze: $75,000 or above.
- 19:27Suze: Now if you look at the one year treasury, these
- 19:32Suze: rates are actually above right now a one year treasury, everybody.
- 19:39Suze: But this offer, because it was so great, was set
- 19:43Suze: to expire October 31st, and you were like, please can
- 19:48Suze: you ask them, will they extend it?
- 19:52Suze: And guess what?
- 19:54Suze: They said, All right, Suze, just for your people again,
- 19:58Suze: because this is only for the people who are listening
- 20:01Suze: to this, if you go to Alliant, just not going
- 20:05Suze: through MyAlliant.com, you just go to their normal website, you're
- 20:10Suze: not gonna see this offer.
- 20:12Suze: So you have to get this offer, by the way,
- 20:15Suze: by going to MyAlliant... A L L I A N T.com.
- 20:21Suze: Even if you are a current customer, you have to
- 20:25Suze: go through that portal or you're not gonna get that
- 20:29Suze: interest rate.
- 20:30KT: But, they did extend it for all of you, and
- 20:35KT: the new deadline now is November 30th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
- 20:44KT: Central Time.
- 20:46Suze: Because a lot of you were like, Suze, I have
- 20:48Suze: another certificate coming due like in a few weeks or whatever, please,
- 20:53Suze: and I want to take advantage of this. So it
- 20:56Suze: has been extended. Many of you have loved it. It
- 21:00Suze: has been received with incredible popularity.
- 21:04Suze: However, I want you to listen to me. You have
- 21:08Suze: got to tune in next week's podcast.
- 21:13Suze: Because a lot of you have also asked me for Suze,
- 21:18Suze: one year is great. What else can Alliant give us
- 21:23Suze: that maybe locks in our money a little bit more?
- 21:27Suze: Well, I went back to them again, and we have
- 21:31Suze: created something for you that I personally think you are
- 21:35Suze: going to love that I'm calling a TLC for you.
- 21:41Suze: All right, so you'll have to, you'll, you'll like this,
- 21:44Suze: I promise you.
- 21:46Suze: So make sure you listen next Sunday when I will
- 21:50Suze: be announcing it number one. Number two, it again, will only be
- 21:56Suze: available to those of you on this podcast, or for
- 22:01Suze: those of you who you tell about it.
- 22:05Suze: But it will not be available to any of Alliant's
- 22:08Suze: other customers who don't know about this podcast.
- 22:14KT: MyAlliant.com.
- 22:16Suze: How do you spell it, KT?
- 22:17KT: M Y A L L I A N T dot com. Myalliant.com.
- 22:25Suze: So again. You have now 'till November 30th, 2026 to
- 22:32Suze: take advantage of the one year certificate.
- 22:36Suze: And if you want to just wait until next Sunday
- 22:39Suze: and hear what else they will be offering you, I
- 22:43Suze: don't have a problem with that either. All right, KT...
- 22:47Suze: I did it.
- 22:49KT: Not too many coughs.
- 22:51Suze: No, but really tell them this first time you've heard
- 22:54Suze: my voice in two weeks...
- 22:55KT: Well, we've been sign language, typing, writing notes, everything, so that, well,
- 23:02KT: she didn't have a voice, nothing came out, no sound.
- 23:05Suze: And Fitzy and Norico, if you're listening to this, it's
- 23:09Suze: been so hard for you too, I know, because we
- 23:11Suze: usually talk every day, and all I'm doing is sending
- 23:14Suze: you little hearts, right? And Keith writes me back and
- 23:18Suze: he says, I miss our conversations, and I'm like, I'm talking, Keith,
- 23:23Suze: but I couldn't even tell him that because I wasn't
- 23:25Suze: allowed to talk on the phone, to do anything, and
