- 0:00Speaker 1: First Nephi, Chapter fourteen. And it shall come to pass
- 0:05Speaker 1: that if the gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of
- 0:08Speaker 1: God in that day, that He shall manifest himself unto
- 0:11Speaker 1: them in word and also in power in very deed,
- 0:15Speaker 1: unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks, and harden
- 0:19Speaker 1: not their hearts against the Lamb of God. They shall
- 0:22Speaker 1: be numbered among the seed of thy Father. Yea, they
- 0:26Speaker 1: shall be numbered among the House of Israel, and they
- 0:28Speaker 1: shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever.
- 0:33Speaker 1: They shall be no more brought down into captivity, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: the House of Israel shall no more be confounded. And
- 0:40Speaker 1: that great pit which hath been digged for them by
- 0:43Speaker 1: that great and abominable Church, which was founded by the
- 0:47Speaker 1: Devil and his children, that he might lead away the
- 0:50Speaker 1: souls of men down to hell. Yea, that great pit
- 0:53Speaker 1: which hath been digged for the destruction of men, shall
- 0:56Speaker 1: be filled by those who digged it unto their utter
- 0:59Speaker 1: distry auction. Saith the Lamb of God not the destruction
- 1:03Speaker 1: of the soul, save it be the casting of it
- 1:06Speaker 1: into that hell, which hath no end for Behold, this
- 1:10Speaker 1: is according to the captivity of the Devil, and also
- 1:13Speaker 1: according to the justice of God, upon all those who
- 1:16Speaker 1: will work wickedness and abomination before him. And it came
- 1:20Speaker 1: to pass that the Angel spake unto Me Nephi, saying,
- 1:24Speaker 1: thou hast beheld that if the gentiles repent, it shall
- 1:28Speaker 1: be well with them. Thou also knowest concerning the covenants
- 1:31Speaker 1: of the Lord unto the House of Israel. And thou
- 1:35Speaker 1: also hast heard that whoso repenteth must not perish. Therefore,
- 1:41Speaker 1: woe be unto the gentiles, if it so be that
- 1:44Speaker 1: they harden their hearts against the Lamb of God. For
- 1:47Speaker 1: the time cometh, sayeth the Lamb of God, that I
- 1:49Speaker 1: will work a great and a marvelous work among the
- 1:52Speaker 1: children of men, a work which shall be everlasting, either
- 1:56Speaker 1: on the one hand or on the other, either to
- 1:59Speaker 1: the convince saying of them unto peace and life eternal,
- 2:03Speaker 1: or unto the deliverance of them, to the hardness of
- 2:06Speaker 1: their hearts and the blindness of their minds, unto their
- 2:09Speaker 1: being brought down into captivity, and also into destruction, both
- 2:14Speaker 1: temporarily and spiritually, according to the captivity of the devil
- 2:18Speaker 1: of which I have spoken. And it came to pass
- 2:22Speaker 1: that when the Angel had spoken these words, he said,
- 2:24Speaker 1: unto me, rememberest thou the covenants of the Father. Unto
- 2:28Speaker 1: the House of Israel. I said unto him, yea. And
- 2:33Speaker 1: it came to pass that he said, unto me, look
- 2:35Speaker 1: and behold that great and abominable Church, which is the
- 2:38Speaker 1: mother of abominations, whose founder is the Devil. And he said,
- 2:43Speaker 1: unto me, behold, there are save two churches only. The
- 2:48Speaker 1: one is the Church of the Lamb of God, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: the other is the Church of the Devil. Wherefore, whoso
- 2:54Speaker 1: belongeth not to the Church of the Lamb of God,
- 2:56Speaker 1: belongeth to that great Church, which is the mother of abominationations.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And she is the horror of all the earth. And
- 3:03Speaker 1: it came to pass that I looked and beheld the
- 3:06Speaker 1: horror of all the earth. And she sat upon many waters,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and people. And it came to pass that I beheld
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Church of the Lamb of God, and its numbers
- 3:21Speaker 1: were few, because of the wickedness and abominations of the
- 3:24Speaker 1: whore who sat upon many waters. Nevertheless, I beheld that
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Church of the Lamb, who were the saints of God,
- 3:32Speaker 1: were also upon all the face of the earth, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: their dominions upon the face of the earth were small
- 3:38Speaker 1: because of the wickedness of the great Hoar whom I saw.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I beheld that the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Great Mother of Abominations did gather together multitudes upon the
- 3:48Speaker 1: face of all the earth, among all the nations of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God. And
- 3:55Speaker 1: it came to pass that I Nephi beheld the power
- 3:58Speaker 1: of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the
- 4:01Speaker 1: saints of the Church of the Lamb, and upon the
- 4:03Speaker 1: covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all
- 4:07Speaker 1: the face of the earth, and they were armed with
- 4:09Speaker 1: righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I beheld that the
- 4:15Speaker 1: wrath of God was poured out upon that great and
- 4:18Speaker 1: abominable Church, insomuch that there were wars and rumors of
- 4:22Speaker 1: wars among all the nations and kindreds of the earth.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And as there began to be wars and rumors of
- 4:29Speaker 1: wars among all the nations which belonged to the Mother
- 4:31Speaker 1: of Abominations, the angels spake unto me, saying, behold, the
- 4:37Speaker 1: wrath of God is upon the Mother of Harlots. And
- 4:40Speaker 1: behold thou seest all these things. And when the day
- 4:44Speaker 1: cometh that the wrath of God is poured out upon
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Mother of Harlots, which is the great and abominable
- 4:50Speaker 1: Church of all the earth, whose founder is the Devil,
- 4:54Speaker 1: then at that day the work of the Father shall
- 4:57Speaker 1: commence in preparing the way for the fulfilling of his
- 5:01Speaker 1: covenants which he hath made to his people, who are
- 5:04Speaker 1: of the House of Israel. And it came to pass
- 5:06Speaker 1: that the Angel spake unto me, saying, look. And I
- 5:10Speaker 1: looked and beheld a man, and he was dressed in
- 5:13Speaker 1: a white robe. And the Angel said unto me, behold
- 5:18Speaker 1: one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Behold, he
- 5:22Speaker 1: shall see and write the remainder of these things, yea,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and also many things which have been And he shall
- 5:28Speaker 1: also write concerning the end of the world. Wherefore the
- 5:33Speaker 1: things which he shall write are just and true. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: behold they are written in the book which thou beheld
- 5:40Speaker 1: proceeding out of the mouth of the jew And at
- 5:43Speaker 1: the time they proceeded out of the mouth of the Jew,
- 5:47Speaker 1: or at the time the book proceeded out of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: mouth of the Jew. The things which were written were
- 5:52Speaker 1: plain and pure, and most precious and easy to the
- 5:56Speaker 1: understanding of all men. And behold, the thing which this
- 6:00Speaker 1: Apostle of the Lamb shall write are many things which
- 6:03Speaker 1: thou hast seen, And behold the remainder shalt thou see.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But the things which thou shalt see hereafter thou shalt
- 6:11Speaker 1: not write. For the Lord God hath ordained the Apostle
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the Lamb of God that he should write them,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and also others who have been to them. He hath
- 6:20Speaker 1: shown all things, and they have written them, and they
- 6:24Speaker 1: are sealed up to come forth in their purity, according
- 6:27Speaker 1: to the truth which is in the Lamb, in the
- 6:30Speaker 1: own due time of the Lord unto the house of Israel.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And I Nephi heard and bear record that the name
- 6:38Speaker 1: of the Apostle of the Lamb was John, according to
- 6:41Speaker 1: the word of the Angel. And behold, I Nephi am
- 6:46Speaker 1: forbidden that I should write the remainder of the things
- 6:48Speaker 1: which I saw and heard. Wherefore the things which I
- 6:51Speaker 1: have written sufficeth me. And I have written but a
- 6:55Speaker 1: small part of the things which I saw. And I
- 6:58Speaker 1: bear record that I saw the things which my father saw,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and the Angel of the Lord did make them known
- 7:04Speaker 1: unto me. And now I make an end of speaking
- 7:07Speaker 1: concerning the things which I saw while I was carried
- 7:10Speaker 1: away in the spirit. And if all the things which
- 7:13Speaker 1: I saw are not written, the things which I have
- 7:15Speaker 1: written are true. And thus it is amen First Nephi
- 7:25Speaker 1: chapter fifteen. And it came to pass that after I, Nephi,
- 7:29Speaker 1: had been carried away in the spirit and seen all
- 7:32Speaker 1: these things, I returned to the tent of my father,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and it came to pass that I beheld my brethren,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and they were disputing one with another concerning the things
- 7:41Speaker 1: my father had spoken unto them. For he truly spoke
- 7:45Speaker 1: many great things unto them, which were hard to be understood,
- 7:49Speaker 1: save a man should inquire of the Lord. And they
- 7:52Speaker 1: being hard in their hearts, therefore they did not look
- 7:55Speaker 1: unto the Lord as they ought. And now I, Nephi,
- 7:59Speaker 1: was because of the hardness of their hearts, and also
- 8:03Speaker 1: because of the things which I had seen and knew
- 8:06Speaker 1: they must unavoidably come to pass, because of the great
- 8:09Speaker 1: wickedness of the children of men, and it came to
- 8:13Speaker 1: pass that I was overcome because of my afflictions, for
- 8:17Speaker 1: I considered that mine afflictions were great above all because
- 8:21Speaker 1: of the destruction of my people, for I had beheld
- 8:25Speaker 1: their fall. And it came to pass that after I
- 8:28Speaker 1: had received strength, I spake unto my brethren, desiring to
- 8:32Speaker 1: know of them the cause of their disputations. And they said, behold,
- 8:37Speaker 1: we cannot understand the words which our father hath spoken
- 8:41Speaker 1: concerning the natural branches of the olive tree, and also
- 8:44Speaker 1: concerning the gentiles. And I said, unto them, have ye
- 8:48Speaker 1: inquired of the Lord? And they said, unto me, we
- 8:51Speaker 1: have not, for the Lord maketh no such thing known
- 8:55Speaker 1: to us. Behold, I said unto them, how is it
- 8:59Speaker 1: that ye do not keep the commandments of the Lord?
- 9:02Speaker 1: How is it that ye will perish because of the
- 9:04Speaker 1: hardness of your hearts? Do ye not remember the things
- 9:08Speaker 1: which the Lord hath said? If ye will not harden
- 9:11Speaker 1: your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye
- 9:15Speaker 1: shall receive with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these
- 9:19Speaker 1: things shall be made known unto you. Behold, I say
- 9:22Speaker 1: unto you that the House of Israel was compared unto
- 9:26Speaker 1: an olive tree, by the spirit of the Lord, which
- 9:29Speaker 1: was in our father. And behold, are we not broken
- 9:32Speaker 1: off from the House of Israel, And are we not
- 9:35Speaker 1: a branch of the House of Israel. And now the
- 9:39Speaker 1: thing which our Father meaneth concerning the grafting inn of
- 9:42Speaker 1: the natural branches through the fullness of the Gentiles, is
- 9:46Speaker 1: that in the latter days, when our seed shall have
- 9:49Speaker 1: dwindled in unbelief, yea, for the space of many years
- 9:53Speaker 1: and many generations, after the Messiah shall be manifested in
- 9:57Speaker 1: body unto the children of men, then shall the fullness
- 10:00Speaker 1: of the Gospel of the Messiah come unto the Gentiles,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and from the gentiles unto the remnant of our seed.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And at that day shall the remnant of our seed
- 10:10Speaker 1: know that they are the House of Israel, and that
- 10:13Speaker 1: they are the covenant people of the Lord. And then
- 10:17Speaker 1: shall they know and come to the knowledge of their forefathers,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and also to the knowledge of the Gospel of their Redeemer,
- 10:24Speaker 1: which was ministered unto their fathers by him. Wherefore they
- 10:28Speaker 1: shall come to the knowledge of their Redeemer and the
- 10:31Speaker 1: very points of his doctrine, that they may know how
- 10:34Speaker 1: to come unto Him and be saved. And then at
- 10:38Speaker 1: that day will they not rejoice and give praise unto
- 10:41Speaker 1: their everlasting God, their Rock and their salvation. Yea, at
- 10:46Speaker 1: that day will they not receive the strength and nourishment
- 10:49Speaker 1: from the true vine. Yea, will they not come unto
- 10:52Speaker 1: the true fold of God. Behold, I say unto you, Yea,
- 10:58Speaker 1: they shall be remembered again among the House of Israel.
- 11:01Speaker 1: They shall be grafted in, being a natural branch of
- 11:05Speaker 1: the olive tree, into the true olive tree. And this
- 11:10Speaker 1: is what our father meaneth. And he meaneth that it
- 11:13Speaker 1: will not come to pass until after they are scattered
- 11:16Speaker 1: by the Gentiles. And he meaneth that it shall come
- 11:19Speaker 1: by way of the Gentiles, that the Lord may show
- 11:23Speaker 1: his power unto the Gentiles, for the very cause that
- 11:26Speaker 1: he shall be rejected of the Jews or of the
- 11:29Speaker 1: House of Israel. Wherefore our Father hath not spoken of
- 11:34Speaker 1: our seed alone, but also of all the House of Israel,
- 11:38Speaker 1: pointing to the covenant which should be fulfilled in the
- 11:41Speaker 1: latter days, which covenant the Lord made to our father Abraham, saying,
- 11:47Speaker 1: in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth
- 11:50Speaker 1: be blessed and it came to pass that I, Nephi,
- 11:55Speaker 1: spake much unto them concerning these things. Yea, I spake
- 11:59Speaker 1: unto them concerned the restoration of the Jews in the
- 12:02Speaker 1: latter days. And I did rehearse unto them the words
- 12:05Speaker 1: of Isaiah, who spake concerning the restoration of the Jews
- 12:09Speaker 1: or of the House of Israel. And after they were restored,
- 12:13Speaker 1: they should no more be confounded, neither should they be
- 12:16Speaker 1: scattered again. And it came to pass that I did
- 12:19Speaker 1: speak many words unto my brethren, that they were pacified
- 12:22Speaker 1: and did humble themselves before the Lord. And it came
- 12:26Speaker 1: to pass that they did speak unto me again, saying,
- 12:30Speaker 1: what meaneth this thing which our father saw in a dream?
- 12:33Speaker 1: What meaneth the tree which he saw? And I said
- 12:37Speaker 1: unto them it was a representation of the Tree of life.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And they said unto me, what meaneth the rod of
- 12:44Speaker 1: iron which our father saw that led to the tree?
- 12:48Speaker 1: And I said unto them that it was the word
- 12:50Speaker 1: of God. And whose would hearken unto the word of God,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and would hold fast unto it? They would never perish,
- 12:58Speaker 1: neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the
- 13:01Speaker 1: adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Wherefore I, Nephi, did exhort them to give heed unto
- 13:11Speaker 1: the word of the Lord. Yea, I did exhort them
- 13:14Speaker 1: with all the energies of my soul and with all
- 13:17Speaker 1: the faculty which I possessed, that they would give heed
- 13:20Speaker 1: to the Word of God and remember to keep his
- 13:23Speaker 1: commandments always in all things. And they said unto me,
- 13:27Speaker 1: what meaneth the river of water which our father saw?
- 13:31Speaker 1: And I said unto them that the water which my
- 13:34Speaker 1: father saw was filthiness, And so much was his mind
- 13:37Speaker 1: swallowed up in other things, that he beheld not the
- 13:41Speaker 1: filthiness of the water. And I said unto them that
- 13:43Speaker 1: it was an awful gulf which separated the wicked from
- 13:47Speaker 1: the tree of life, and also from the saints of God.
- 13:51Speaker 1: And I said unto them that it was a representation
- 13:54Speaker 1: of that awful hell which the Angel said unto me,
- 13:58Speaker 1: was prepared for the wicked. And I said unto them
- 14:01Speaker 1: that our father also saw that the justice of God
- 14:04Speaker 1: did also divide the wicked from the righteous. And the
- 14:08Speaker 1: brightness thereof was like unto the brightness of a flaming fire,
- 14:12Speaker 1: which ascendeth up unto God, forever and ever, and hath
- 14:16Speaker 1: no end. And they said unto me, doth this thing
- 14:21Speaker 1: mean the torment of the body in the days of probation?
- 14:24Speaker 1: Or doth it mean the final state of the soul
- 14:26Speaker 1: after the death of the temporal body? Or doth it
- 14:29Speaker 1: speak of the things which are temporal? And it came
- 14:33Speaker 1: to pass that I said unto them that it was
- 14:35Speaker 1: a representation of things both temporal and spiritual. For the
- 14:39Speaker 1: day should come that they must be judged of their works. Yea,
- 14:43Speaker 1: even the works which were done by the temporal body
- 14:46Speaker 1: in their days of probation. Wherefore, if they should die
- 14:50Speaker 1: in their wickedness, they must be cast off. Also as
- 14:54Speaker 1: to the things which are spiritual, which are pertaining to righteousness,
- 14:58Speaker 1: wherefore they must be brought to stand before God to
- 15:02Speaker 1: be judged of their works. And if their works have
- 15:05Speaker 1: been filthiness, they must needs be filthy. And if they
- 15:09Speaker 1: be filthy, it must needs be that they cannot dwell
- 15:12Speaker 1: in the Kingdom of God. If so, the Kingdom of
- 15:16Speaker 1: God must be filthy also. But behold, I say unto you,
- 15:20Speaker 1: the Kingdom of God is not filthy. And therefore cannot
- 15:24Speaker 1: any unclean thing enter into the Kingdom of God. Wherefore
- 15:29Speaker 1: there must needs be a place of filthiness prepared for
- 15:32Speaker 1: that which is filthy. And there is a place prepared, yea,
- 15:36Speaker 1: even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and
- 15:39Speaker 1: the devil is the preparator of it. Wherefore the final
- 15:43Speaker 1: state of the souls of men is to dwell in
- 15:45Speaker 1: the Kingdom of God, or to be cast out because
- 15:48Speaker 1: of that justice of which I have spoken. Wherefore the
- 15:51Speaker 1: wicked are rejected from the righteous, and also from that
- 15:55Speaker 1: tree of life, whose fruit is most precious and most
- 15:58Speaker 1: desirable above all all other fruits. Yea, and it is
- 16:02Speaker 1: the greatest of all the gifts of God. And thus
- 16:05Speaker 1: I spake unto my brethren, Amen. First Nephi chapter sixteen.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And now it came to pass that after I Nephi,
- 16:15Speaker 1: had made an end of speaking to my brethren, Behold,
- 16:19Speaker 1: they said, unto me, thou hast declared unto us hard things,
- 16:23Speaker 1: more than we are able to bear. And it came
- 16:26Speaker 1: to pass that I said unto them, that I knew
- 16:28Speaker 1: that I had spoken hard things against the wicked, according
- 16:31Speaker 1: to the truth and the righteous. Have I justified and
- 16:35Speaker 1: testified that they should be lifted up at the last day.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Wherefore the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for
- 16:42Speaker 1: it cutteth them to the very center. And now, my brethren,
- 16:47Speaker 1: if ye were righteous and were willing to hearken to
- 16:49Speaker 1: the truth and give heed unto it, that ye might
- 16:53Speaker 1: walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the truth, and say, thou speakest hard thing against us.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I Nephi did exhort
- 17:05Speaker 1: my brethren with all diligence to keep the commandments of
- 17:08Speaker 1: the Lord. And it came to pass that they did
- 17:11Speaker 1: humble themselves before the Lord, insomuch that I had joy
- 17:15Speaker 1: and great hopes of them, that they would walk in
- 17:17Speaker 1: the paths of righteousness. Now all these things were said
- 17:21Speaker 1: and done as my father dwelt in a tent in
- 17:23Speaker 1: the valley which he called Limuel. And it came to
- 17:27Speaker 1: pass that I Nephi took one of the daughters of
- 17:30Speaker 1: Ishmael to wife, and also my brethren took of the
- 17:34Speaker 1: daughters of Ishmael to wife. And also Zoram took the
- 17:38Speaker 1: eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife. And thus my father
- 17:41Speaker 1: had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord which had
- 17:44Speaker 1: been given unto him. And also I Nephi had been
- 17:48Speaker 1: blessed of the Lord exceedingly. And it came to pass
- 17:52Speaker 1: that the voice of the Lord spake unto my father
- 17:55Speaker 1: by night and commanded him that on the morrow he
- 17:58Speaker 1: should take his journey into the wilderness. And it came
- 18:02Speaker 1: to pass that as my father arose in the morning
- 18:05Speaker 1: and went forth to the tent door, to his great astonishment,
- 18:08Speaker 1: he beheld upon the ground a round ball of curious workmanship,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and it was of fine brass. And within the ball
- 18:16Speaker 1: were two spindles, and the one pointed the way whither
- 18:20Speaker 1: we should go into the wilderness. And it came to
- 18:23Speaker 1: pass that we did gather together whatsoever things we should
- 18:26Speaker 1: carry into the wilderness, and all the remainder of our
- 18:30Speaker 1: provisions which the Lord had given unto us. And we
- 18:33Speaker 1: did take seed of every kind that we might carry
- 18:36Speaker 1: into the wilderness. And it came to pass that we
- 18:40Speaker 1: did take our tints and depart into the wilderness across
- 18:43Speaker 1: the River Laman. And it came to pass that we
- 18:47Speaker 1: traveled for the space of four days nearly a south
- 18:50Speaker 1: southeast direction, and we did pitch our tints again, and
- 18:54Speaker 1: we did call the name of the place Shazer. And
- 18:58Speaker 1: it came to pass that we did take our bows
- 19:00Speaker 1: and our arrows and go forth into the wilderness to
- 19:03Speaker 1: slay food for our families. And after we had slain
- 19:06Speaker 1: food for our families, we did return again to our
- 19:09Speaker 1: families in the wilderness, to the place of Shazar. And
- 19:13Speaker 1: we did go forth again in the wilderness, following the
- 19:16Speaker 1: same direction, keeping in the most fertile parts of the wilderness,
- 19:21Speaker 1: which were in the borders near the Red Sea. And
- 19:24Speaker 1: it came to pass that we did travel for the
- 19:26Speaker 1: space of many days, slaying food by the way, with
- 19:30Speaker 1: our bows and our arrows, and our stones and our slings.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And we did follow the directions of the ball, which
- 19:38Speaker 1: led us in the more fertile parts of the wilderness.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And after we had traveled for the space of many days,
- 19:43Speaker 1: we did pitch our tints for the space of a time,
- 19:46Speaker 1: that we might again rest ourselves and obtain food for
- 19:49Speaker 1: our families. And it came to pass that as I
- 19:53Speaker 1: Nephi went forth to slay food, behold I did break
- 19:57Speaker 1: my bow, which was made of fine steel. And after
- 20:01Speaker 1: I did break my beau, behold my brethren were angry
- 20:04Speaker 1: with me because of the loss of my beau, for
- 20:06Speaker 1: we did obtain no food, and it came to pass
- 20:09Speaker 1: that we did return without food to our families, and
- 20:12Speaker 1: being much fatigued because of their journeying, they did suffer
- 20:16Speaker 1: much for the want of food. And it came to
- 20:19Speaker 1: pass that Laman and Limuel, and the sons of Ishmael
- 20:23Speaker 1: did begin to murmur exceedingly because of their sufferings and
- 20:26Speaker 1: afflictions in the wilderness. And also my father began to
- 20:29Speaker 1: murmur against the Lord his god Yea. And they were
- 20:32Speaker 1: all exceedingly sorrowful, even that they did murmur against the Lord.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Now it came to pass that I Nephi, having been
- 20:40Speaker 1: afflicted with my brethren because of the loss of my
- 20:42Speaker 1: beaux and their beaus having lost their springs, it began
- 20:46Speaker 1: to be exceedingly difficult Yea, insomuch that we could obtain
- 20:50Speaker 1: no food. And it came to pass that I Nephi
- 20:54Speaker 1: did speak much unto my brethren, because they had hardened
- 20:58Speaker 1: their hearts again even unto complain against the Lord their god.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I Nephi did make
- 21:05Speaker 1: out of wood a beau and out of a straight
- 21:08Speaker 1: stick an arrow. Wherefore I did arm myself with a
- 21:12Speaker 1: bow and an arrow, with a sling, and with stones.
- 21:16Speaker 1: And I said unto my father, whither shall I go
- 21:18Speaker 1: to obtain food? And it came to pass that he
- 21:21Speaker 1: did inquire of the Lord, for they had humbled themselves
- 21:24Speaker 1: because of my words. For I did say many things
- 21:27Speaker 1: unto them in the energy of my soul. And it
- 21:30Speaker 1: came to pass that the voice of the Lord came
- 21:32Speaker 1: unto my father, and he was truly chastened because of
- 21:36Speaker 1: his murmuring against the Lord, insomuch that he was brought
- 21:39Speaker 1: down into the depths of sorrow. And it came to
- 21:43Speaker 1: pass that the voice of the Lord said unto him,
- 21:46Speaker 1: look upon the ball, and behold the things which are written.
- 21:50Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when my father beheld
- 21:52Speaker 1: the things which were written upon the ball, he did
- 21:55Speaker 1: fear and tremble exceedingly, and also my brethren and the
- 21:58Speaker 1: sons of Ishmael, and our wives. And it came to
- 22:02Speaker 1: pass that I Nephi beheld the pointers which were in
- 22:05Speaker 1: the ball, that they did work according to the faith
- 22:08Speaker 1: and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And there was also written upon them, a new writing
- 22:15Speaker 1: which was plain to be read, which did give us
- 22:17Speaker 1: understanding concerning the ways of the Lord. And it was
- 22:21Speaker 1: written and changed from time to time according to the
- 22:24Speaker 1: faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus
- 22:27Speaker 1: we see that by small means the Lord can bring
- 22:30Speaker 1: about great things. And it came to pass that I, Nephi,
- 22:34Speaker 1: did go forth up into the top of the mountain,
- 22:36Speaker 1: according to the directions which were given upon the ball.
- 22:39Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I did slay wild
- 22:42Speaker 1: beasts insomuch that I did obtain food for our families.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I did return to
- 22:48Speaker 1: our tints bearing the beasts which I had slain. And
- 22:52Speaker 1: now when they had beheld that I had obtained food,
- 22:55Speaker 1: how great was their joy. And it came to pass
- 22:58Speaker 1: that they did humble themselves elves before the Lord, and
- 23:01Speaker 1: did give thanks unto him. And it came to pass
- 23:04Speaker 1: that we did again take our journey, traveling nearly the
- 23:07Speaker 1: same course as in the beginning. And after we had
- 23:10Speaker 1: traveled for the space of many days, we did pitch
- 23:13Speaker 1: our tents again, that we might tarry for the space
- 23:16Speaker 1: of a time. And it came to pass that Ishmael
- 23:19Speaker 1: died and was buried in the place which was called Naham.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the daughters of Ishmael
- 23:26Speaker 1: did mourn exceedingly because of the loss of their father
- 23:29Speaker 1: and because of their afflictions in the wilderness. And they
- 23:32Speaker 1: did murmur against my father because he had brought them
- 23:36Speaker 1: out of the land of Jerusalem, saying, our father is dead, yea,
- 23:40Speaker 1: And we have wandered much in the wilderness, and we
- 23:43Speaker 1: have suffered much affliction, hunger, thirst, and fatigue. And after
- 23:48Speaker 1: all these sufferings, we must perish in the wilderness with hunger.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And thus did they murmur against my father and also
- 23:55Speaker 1: against me, And they were desirous to return again to Jerusalem.
- 24:00Speaker 1: When Lahman said, unto Lemuel, and also unto the sons
- 24:03Speaker 1: of Ishmael, behold, let us slay our father and also
- 24:07Speaker 1: our brother Nephi, who has taken it upon him to
- 24:10Speaker 1: be our ruler, and our teacher, who are his elder brethren.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Now he says that the Lord has talked with him,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and also that angels have ministered unto him. But behold,
- 24:20Speaker 1: we know that he lies unto us, and he tells
- 24:23Speaker 1: us these things, and he worketh many things by his
- 24:25Speaker 1: cunning arts, that he may deceive our eyes, thinking perhaps
- 24:30Speaker 1: that he may lead us away into some strange wilderness.
- 24:33Speaker 1: And after he has led us away, he has thought
- 24:36Speaker 1: to make himself a king and a ruler over us,
- 24:39Speaker 1: that he may do with us according to his will
- 24:41Speaker 1: and pleasure. And after this manner did my brother Laman
- 24:45Speaker 1: stir up their hearts to anger. And it came to
- 24:47Speaker 1: pass that the Lord was with us. Yea, even the
- 24:50Speaker 1: voice of the Lord came and did speak many words
- 24:53Speaker 1: unto them, and did chasten them exceedingly. And after they
- 24:57Speaker 1: were chastened by the voice of the Lord, they they
- 25:00Speaker 1: did turn away their anger and did repent of their sins,
- 25:04Speaker 1: insomuch that the Lord did bless us again with food
- 25:07Speaker 1: that we did not perish. End of First Nephi, Chapters
- 25:12Speaker 1: fourteen through sixteen.
