- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Joyce, and we have a nice cozy crowd here
- 0:03Speaker 1: at cafe or for the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Bob Joyce GM here and just for you, coach, because
- 0:09Speaker 1: I know you probably had I don't know. I did
- 0:11Speaker 1: you have a good practice today with your crew getting
- 0:13Speaker 1: ready for the ball?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. All right, I mean,
- 0:16Speaker 3: all right, you know, every once in a while we
- 0:18Speaker 3: have like a really good practice, but today was pretty good.
- 0:21Speaker 2: All right.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Well, I have something for you in honor of your
- 0:23Speaker 1: team yesterday. Down all right, that's enough of that. We
- 0:40Speaker 1: don't need any more of that. The Eagles, of course
- 0:42Speaker 1: won the NFC. I tried to find the video of
- 0:44Speaker 1: you and Kenner when she was on the roster, but yeah, yeah, I'm.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Sure although we did win, we did win.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We beat the Patriots. How was a Jamella practice today?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Was you? Humble?
- 0:58Speaker 3: Very uh, very complimentary? Not like last week when she
- 1:02Speaker 3: was running around with her command. There's jersey on because
- 1:05Speaker 3: she's from Washington, d C. And so yeah, she and
- 1:09Speaker 3: I am purpose to not wear my Egos jersey today
- 1:12Speaker 3: because I didn't want to rub it in. I'm that
- 1:14Speaker 3: kind of guy.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Okay, sounds good.
- 1:17Speaker 1: All right, Well, your team coming off the road Creighton.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Great to have a nice crowd, creating over eleven thousand.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So your team play the Blue Jays on their Creating
- 1:27Speaker 1: for Cancer game, first time we've ever played in the
- 1:30Speaker 1: Chi Health Center, and you come away with an eleven
- 1:33Speaker 1: point went over a creating team, a veteran team. They
- 1:35Speaker 1: just kept coming at you and coming at you and
- 1:37Speaker 1: made things interesting in that second half.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean our defense was so good in the
- 1:42Speaker 3: first half.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I mean they scored nine first half.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah, nineteen nineteen wow.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Second lowest number of the season for them and a half.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, so they're averaging what seventy eight eighty
- 1:55Speaker 3: points a game something like that, I forget what it was.
- 1:57Speaker 3: But for us to hold them, you know, to that number,
- 2:04Speaker 3: that's that's hard work because they moved so much without
- 2:07Speaker 3: the ball they have. They when they sub they put
- 2:11Speaker 3: five three point shooters out there. So it's hard for
- 2:14Speaker 3: us to play our big guys because they don't have
- 2:16Speaker 3: anybody to guard, you know, So it makes it a
- 2:19Speaker 3: little bit more difficult. If they just have guys that
- 2:21Speaker 3: shoot toos, that's fine, but when they put five three
- 2:23Speaker 3: point shooters out there. You know, it's it's a little
- 2:25Speaker 3: bit more difficult. But you know, we came out in
- 2:28Speaker 3: the second half, we got up twenty, and you know,
- 2:31Speaker 3: I guess they were in a hurry to get back
- 2:32Speaker 3: and watch the football game too, because our defense wasn't
- 2:36Speaker 3: as good and our offense was better in the second half,
- 2:38Speaker 3: but our defense wasn't quite as good, and and they
- 2:41Speaker 3: got hot a little bit, you know. So that's the
- 2:44Speaker 3: kind of team they are there. They've played together for
- 2:47Speaker 3: their four almost fifty year together, a lot of those
- 2:50Speaker 3: coming up. Yeah, they went to the Final eight three
- 2:52Speaker 3: years ago, and they're good. I can't understand why, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 3: they're not in the top twenty. But they're a really,
- 2:59Speaker 3: really good team. And I don't I don't imagine that
- 3:03Speaker 3: they're gonna lose a game, and so we're gonna have
- 3:05Speaker 3: to beat them again when they come to our place
- 3:09Speaker 3: at the Excel Center.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yep, that's actually a month from today. Uh. They had
- 3:13Speaker 2: no answers for Sarah. She was phenomenal.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah, very few people do. I mean, she's just and
- 3:20Speaker 3: it doesn't matter where we play or what the situation is.
- 3:24Speaker 3: She just has a calmness about her. You know, she
- 3:29Speaker 3: stays level headed. She doesn't get too far ahead of
- 3:32Speaker 3: herself and things, you know, misshot or something bad doesn't
- 3:37Speaker 3: linger with her like with some other kids. She she's
- 3:40Speaker 3: just way way more mature as a player than then
- 3:44Speaker 3: you would think someone that age would be. So we're
- 3:49Speaker 3: very fortunate. Freshmen like that don't come along very often.
- 3:52Speaker 1: No third time, third time, yes, third time, both player
- 3:54Speaker 1: and Freshmen of the week.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I guess you're gonna start.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mean, yes, the logic is Paige will be Player
- 3:59Speaker 1: of the You're in the biggiest, But you gotta start
- 4:00Speaker 1: having some conversation about the freshman number twenty one on
- 4:04Speaker 1: your team as a potential player of the year in
- 4:07Speaker 1: the well.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I mean, I hope, but you know, I hope they tie.
- 4:11Speaker 3: You know, I hope they both get it. You know,
- 4:12Speaker 3: I think they make each other better.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that they do.
- 4:16Speaker 3: You know, not that the people on the women's basketball
- 4:20Speaker 3: side are as smart as the guys on the men's side.
- 4:23Speaker 3: When they have Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullen co players
- 4:26Speaker 3: of the year, you know that takes a little bit
- 4:28Speaker 3: of smarts on Dave Gabbett and Mike train Geese's part.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I don't know that we have that. Who knows, but
- 4:37Speaker 3: let's hope that it comes down to that that those
- 4:40Speaker 3: two are the two in the running. And I think,
- 4:46Speaker 3: even more importantly, I think it's gonna be hard for
- 4:48Speaker 3: them to keep Sarah off their own market team. Oh yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know if you go around and say, well,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, there's nine other players if you take page
- 4:58Speaker 3: out of the picture. So yeah, there's nine other players
- 5:00Speaker 3: in the country that you would rather have instead of her,
- 5:04Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And she also added what four blocks and five steals
- 5:08Speaker 1: for you on Saturday.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I mean, she did it all.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah, she does. You know, she's not one of these
- 5:11Speaker 3: one dimensional kids that're like, oh, she's a good shooter,
- 5:14Speaker 3: or hey, she's a good post player. I mean she
- 5:16Speaker 3: passes the ball, she rebounds the ball, she plays defense.
- 5:23Speaker 3: She just does a little you know. She scores on drive,
- 5:25Speaker 3: she scores on three, she scores in the post. She's
- 5:29Speaker 3: I mean the last player that we had like that
- 5:31Speaker 3: was Visa. That's the last player we had like that.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And Visa wasn't like that till, you know, after her
- 5:37Speaker 3: freshman year, not doing her freshman year. So she's kind
- 5:42Speaker 3: of in kind of a space of her own right now.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that is for sure.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I like the last play at the end of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: third quarter. Now, yes, the end result the ball didn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: go in the basket, but Page for a great pass
- 5:54Speaker 1: that might have been the play of the year of
- 5:55Speaker 1: that ball went in the hoop.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there was a lot of disappointment that
- 6:01Speaker 3: it didn't go in. I think Sarah, I'm not sure
- 6:05Speaker 3: she realized how much time she had because she had
- 6:08Speaker 3: enough time to catch it. I mean it's point eight yep. Okay,
- 6:11Speaker 3: if it was you know, point two or something, but
- 6:14Speaker 3: it was point eight and point eight, you have enough
- 6:16Speaker 3: time to catch it, boom, turn around and shoot it.
- 6:20Speaker 3: So it was kind of rushed and but yeah, I
- 6:22Speaker 3: think that would have been one of the highlights of
- 6:24Speaker 3: the year for sure. Either way, that's two great players
- 6:30Speaker 3: connecting on what could have been pretty spectacular. And as
- 6:35Speaker 3: I said, that's why I think the two of them
- 6:37Speaker 3: make each other better. And I hope, I hope we
- 6:42Speaker 3: keep getting more of that, you know, when it's you know,
- 6:45Speaker 3: crunch time in about a month.
- 6:47Speaker 1: More, yes, yeah, well a month from today be playing
- 6:50Speaker 1: creating again. So forgetting at that time more with Gino,
- 6:53Speaker 1: it's the U kind of women's basketball coaches show or
- 6:55Speaker 1: live at Cafe are here in Manchester. See, I don't
- 6:58Speaker 1: even see Gino normally does that at the applause meter.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We'll come back with Mara Geno in just a minute.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Here on Liarfield, Stay with us.
