Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, Welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke. I'm
- 0:02Speaker 1: your host, Colleen. With today we have podcaster, film producer
- 0:07Speaker 1: and actor and retired rapper. But we'll go back to uh,
- 0:12Speaker 1: host and producer of holding court is in the building
- 0:18Speaker 1: and what do you have us eating today today? I'm
- 0:22Speaker 1: eating spicy chicken and French fries. Yes, And this isn't
- 0:49Speaker 1: made it all because you told me a million times
- 0:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't cook. I don't cook. I don't
- 0:55Speaker 1: know how to cook. And I said, surely you got
- 0:56Speaker 1: to cook something. And then I think you said egg
- 0:59Speaker 1: and I said it. I hate egg whites. It's like
- 1:01Speaker 1: eating the napkin. It is terrible. I mean I think
- 1:05Speaker 1: even they sell egg whites in a jar now or
- 1:07Speaker 1: like it's terrible. I've never liked egg whites. You don't
- 1:11Speaker 1: like eating healthy? Actually, that is also true. I actually
- 1:17Speaker 1: do not like eating healthy, that is that fact. But
- 1:21Speaker 1: I don't like fast food anymore like you. I did
- 1:25Speaker 1: a lot of eating out, um and I ate out
- 1:29Speaker 1: so much. But if you've ever taken a break from
- 1:31Speaker 1: eating out and then go back to it, it just
- 1:34Speaker 1: doesn't hit your body the same, right, especially if you
- 1:37Speaker 1: get like like McDonald's or something like like, I don't
- 1:40Speaker 1: even call it taco bell. I call it boo boo bell.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Because you're gonna get it, you better make sure you're
- 1:44Speaker 1: at home or close that you're comfortable with doing your business.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But um, yeah, this was this was my meal of choice,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know, coming up through the ranks when I was
- 1:53Speaker 1: a kid. You know, I think you know, of course inflation,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I think you know I used to get you could
- 1:58Speaker 1: get a meal like this. Three. I'm so glad you
- 2:02Speaker 1: mentioned that. So I of course do the runs to
- 2:04Speaker 1: get the food for everybody. I'm very hands on over here.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm like a dishwasher, food picker up or interviewer, researcher.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Just in case you guys think I'm like bigger than life,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the reality check is it's not that. But um, when
- 2:19Speaker 1: I went to buy these like spicy chicken meals, there
- 2:22Speaker 1: was like twenty four dollars. I said, dollars. Damn. I said,
- 2:26Speaker 1: are you sure? Did you get the guy behind me order?
- 2:29Speaker 1: And she was like, no, you got too spicy chicken meals?
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I said, And I was driving back to the
- 2:35Speaker 1: student all I could think was, like I thought, a
- 2:37Speaker 1: spicy chicken sandwich was like NS used to be. It
- 2:42Speaker 1: wasn't twenty years ago. It was it was because I
- 2:47Speaker 1: used to. You are right, You are totally right, but yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I used to when when I was I had my
- 2:54Speaker 1: first business, like fast food del Taco, McDonald's. I mean,
- 2:59Speaker 1: those guys were like my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I
- 3:01Speaker 1: mean you could search your car for like fifty cents here,
- 3:04Speaker 1: five cents piece together a dollar and be like, I
- 3:06Speaker 1: got dinner for the night. And then you got creative.
- 3:09Speaker 1: If you ate, you know, a double cheeseburger for a dollar,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you would be like, you know what through some big
- 3:13Speaker 1: Max saus On that you know what I'm saying, Like
- 3:15Speaker 1: you started getting creative with was like, no, okay, that's
- 3:21Speaker 1: some Kansas city. Yeah. You, by the way, you're from Kansas,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Kansas City, Kansas, from Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas City.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I don't even get the whole set. You say Kansas City,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you say it kans So you're from Kansas. Most people
- 3:36Speaker 1: say Kansas, Missouri Cans. Let me let me, I don't
- 3:40Speaker 1: even know where either of those things are. Don't say
- 3:42Speaker 1: that they're gonna be in your comment. I think, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: I think of Kansas I think a Dorothy. They're gonna
- 3:48Speaker 1: get you on the comments. They're gonna get you on
- 3:50Speaker 1: the comments. I'm so most people don't know there's two
- 3:54Speaker 1: different Kansas City, Kansas in Kansas City, Missouri are two
- 3:58Speaker 1: different states and cities. So Kansas City, Kansas is nine
- 4:01Speaker 1: one three. Kansa City, missouris they won six. So when
- 4:04Speaker 1: you being from Kansas City, Missouri, then the fighting words. Yes,
- 4:09Speaker 1: so which one is dorthy from? That's the that's the
- 4:11Speaker 1: Kansas ship. Don't get me wrong, shout out to Kansas
- 4:13Speaker 1: because we're still rock with Kansas. But Kansas City, Missouri
- 4:16Speaker 1: is a major city. Like they call it Killers City,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So it's a major city.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But yeah, they'm fighting words when you when motherfucker's from
- 4:24Speaker 1: Kansas City, travel and we and you go somewhere and
- 4:26Speaker 1: people be like, yeah, you saw you from Kansas like
- 4:28Speaker 1: they'd be ready to go in. So why don't people
- 4:31Speaker 1: just say Missouri? Then, Well, because Kansas City, Missouri is
- 4:35Speaker 1: you know, Missouri's big. You got St. Louis, you got Springfield,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you got Columbia, you got a lot of learning a
- 4:40Speaker 1: lot about geography, for sure. Let's try the sandwich. So
- 4:44Speaker 1: I can dig up all your dirt because you have
- 4:47Speaker 1: you have a You're like a cat. You have so
- 4:49Speaker 1: many lives. I do, I do? All? Right, here we go.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You rude your lettus? Yeah, I don't want that. You
- 4:55Speaker 1: don't want to let us something judge in mind? Is
- 4:58Speaker 1: a spicy chicken a little bit? Not really. We're gonna
- 5:02Speaker 1: trade if it ain't right though, I'm gonna have to
- 5:05Speaker 1: eat after you. Hope you ain't got cold or not.
- 5:11Speaker 1: There's a spicy one, right, Huh. This has a little
- 5:13Speaker 1: spice to it. Okay, so I asked for a non
- 5:18Speaker 1: spicy just has spice in it. So it's not that bad,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you said to Si. You said that we're both spicy. Um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: this is pretty good. I'm yeah, I'm gonna have heartburn later,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but it's all real. I thought it was gonna be
- 5:35Speaker 1: like a little spicy, like a little kick that that's
- 5:39Speaker 1: a real king. You know what, It depends, you know,
- 5:42Speaker 1: because sometimes it won't be there. Sometime it'll be fire like.
- 5:45Speaker 1: That's a little quick m You know what you gotta
- 5:47Speaker 1: do for all your listeners you don't like spicy. The
- 5:55Speaker 1: greatest thing you could probably do is probably add some
- 5:57Speaker 1: ranch to it. To drown it right, that don't work.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Watch it, watch it work. I'm surprised. Um, so I
- 6:07Speaker 1: did some digging on you. You've been to jail. I'm
- 6:09Speaker 1: surprised I didn't get like the home Homie spread. No,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I haven't been at like prison or nothing like that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You went to the luxury movie. No, I haven't. You know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: listen by Guy's grace. I was in jail at fifteen.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So I was in juvenile. Yeah, and you know I
- 6:31Speaker 1: was the typical recalcitrant teenager back then, you know, going
- 6:36Speaker 1: through my thug ship and my gangster ship, and yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I went to jail at fifteen. Uh, they were gonna
- 6:43Speaker 1: certify me as an adult, basically keep me in and
- 6:47Speaker 1: give me. What did you go to jail for? Um,
- 6:51Speaker 1: attempting murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, armed criminal action,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and uh, burglary robbery. I arribbed a guns store. What
- 7:02Speaker 1: did your mom say? M hmm, what you knew it
- 7:06Speaker 1: was coming? But did she did she get the call
- 7:09Speaker 1: from Jones like I'm leaving you there? She tried to
- 7:12Speaker 1: get the bail money. No, juvenile, I wasn't like that.
- 7:16Speaker 1: In juvenile there is no bail and it's funny that
- 7:20Speaker 1: you say that in terms of getting out. Um, when
- 7:23Speaker 1: I went up for my hearing, I remember not understanding
- 7:27Speaker 1: the severity of the of the charges, and I remember
- 7:31Speaker 1: going to court and I was kind of like, okay,
- 7:33Speaker 1: so when I'm gonna go home, and the judge told
- 7:35Speaker 1: me he said home, he was like, man, you can
- 7:37Speaker 1: take that out to vocabulary, like you ain't. You ain't
- 7:40Speaker 1: going home. So so once you got locked up, you
- 7:44Speaker 1: didn't you didn't get to go. No, they were going
- 7:47Speaker 1: to certify me, which means this was like so at
- 7:52Speaker 1: that time in Missouri, they were trying to figure out
- 7:55Speaker 1: how to deal with and sentenced juveniles that commit adult crimes.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So they wanted to keep me, give me what they
- 8:02Speaker 1: called juvenile life, which keep you in juvenile till you're
- 8:05Speaker 1: old enough to go to prison and start about the
- 8:07Speaker 1: rest of your sentence. But your attempted murder was kind
- 8:09Speaker 1: of by accident, right, because you're shooting into a building. Mhmm.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That would do with our separate charges, okay, But shooting
- 8:19Speaker 1: into an occupied dwelling that was another incident. The attempted
- 8:24Speaker 1: murder was something different. Oh, should I have security? Okay?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Any any other things that that, Um no, but this
- 8:36Speaker 1: is you weren't scared at all, Like you don't hear
- 8:38Speaker 1: about like you know, like when I was a kid
- 8:40Speaker 1: growing up, you heard about like how do I say
- 8:43Speaker 1: this without getting murdered In today's world, I'm going to
- 8:47Speaker 1: get murdered for the statement. What is it? Like when
- 8:50Speaker 1: I was a kid growing up, you heard about like
- 8:51Speaker 1: don't drop so booty rape and you know, you know
- 8:55Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like you wasn't. There was no part
- 8:57Speaker 1: of you that's like oh shoot, no, no, not that
- 9:00Speaker 1: never even crossed my mind. But um, you know, I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think it's just growing up in the environment you well,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and then you have this youthful um ignorance. You don't
- 9:10Speaker 1: ever think it's gonna happen. You don't ever think you'll
- 9:12Speaker 1: get caught, you know what I mean, Like you have
- 9:14Speaker 1: this thing where you think you're invincible when you're young
- 9:17Speaker 1: like that, you don't ever think it will happen to you,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know. So, um yeah, you know, we were just
- 9:23Speaker 1: thrilled seeking to be honest with you because I grew up,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I had a good childhood. I didn't necessarily need to
- 9:27Speaker 1: be doing the things that I was doing. So would
- 9:30Speaker 1: you say it was like your friends, your influence, your
- 9:32Speaker 1: environment was a rap music. Um no, it wasn't rap music.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Um I could say, well, it's layered at least for me,
- 9:40Speaker 1: you know, because you gotta think it's systematic. So what
- 9:42Speaker 1: happens is I was born in the seventies, raising the eighties,
- 9:45Speaker 1: so you know, with the emergence of crack cocaine, with
- 9:49Speaker 1: the emergence of the gang culture, you know, now the
- 9:51Speaker 1: environment becomes hostile. So now a lot of guys won't
- 9:55Speaker 1: admit this, but this is the truth. At some point,
- 9:58Speaker 1: when you're kind of coming through the rank ranks, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you're fearful. You don't want to be victimized, like you're
- 10:04Speaker 1: seeing your friends get ride ride for Jordan's ride, for
- 10:07Speaker 1: the coach ride for whatever. So you say to yourself,
- 10:10Speaker 1: because you're scared, you're like, sh it, it it ain't gonna
- 10:11Speaker 1: happen to me, sot fourteen years old. You're too love,
- 10:15Speaker 1: You get you a gun or something, and then what
- 10:18Speaker 1: ends up happening is you end up kind of start
- 10:21Speaker 1: to perpetuate that same ship that you were fearful of.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You now become part of the problem. So it was
- 10:27Speaker 1: more environment. I like to tell people I would like
- 10:30Speaker 1: you're saying that you become the monster instead of the
- 10:32Speaker 1: exactly because because you don't want to be victimized. Because yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 1: because you don't want to be victimized, because you start
- 10:40Speaker 1: to see the adoration that comes with that with being
- 10:44Speaker 1: like that, when you beat somebody up, you shoot at somebody,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you do some perceivingly gangster ships, some ignorant ship. Then
- 10:50Speaker 1: you see the adulation that comes with that. You know,
- 10:52Speaker 1: people like, oh shitty cool, oh man, you know when
- 10:55Speaker 1: you start leaning into that, and then before you know it,
- 10:58Speaker 1: you become that motherfucker you were scared of, Like, damn,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm just like him. Now. So at what point did
- 11:04Speaker 1: you I'm gonna say, get shin checked to the point
- 11:07Speaker 1: where you turned your life around? Um, well, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say I stopped doing crash out ship
- 11:17Speaker 1: once I got crash out ship is really just ship
- 11:22Speaker 1: where you know you're gonna fail. There's no it's not
- 11:24Speaker 1: for no money, there's no there's no endgame. It's just
- 11:29Speaker 1: ignorant ship. You know what I mean. Excuse me shooting
- 11:31Speaker 1: at people not getting paid for it, you know what
- 11:34Speaker 1: I mean? Doing rogue ship, breaking in and ship just
- 11:37Speaker 1: being rogue. So like you go, you and your homies
- 11:39Speaker 1: are like born and you're like, what what can we
- 11:42Speaker 1: do today? Oh, We'll just like shoot up some people.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And you're like, no, no, I'm not no, no, it's
- 11:47Speaker 1: not that because again you you still have these influence. Again,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you can't forget that. I said, now the environment is hostile.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So we hit the gun store for a reason. We
- 11:56Speaker 1: hit the gun store because we felt like we needed protection.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You know. So we were young with kids. We're not
- 12:03Speaker 1: selling dope, so we don't have the money to buy them,
- 12:05Speaker 1: you know, so we figured we could steal them, which
- 12:08Speaker 1: we did successfully, you know, well at least in that moment.
- 12:11Speaker 1: And so so now I'm in an environment, I feel protected.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I feel strong because now I got these guns, you know.
- 12:19Speaker 1: And so when you carrying guns and you have that
- 12:21Speaker 1: attitude and you're in the environment, it's a recipe for
- 12:24Speaker 1: a disaster. So at some point, when you campaign it
- 12:28Speaker 1: with that energy, you're gonna run into the motherfucker's gonna
- 12:31Speaker 1: get you everything you're looking for. And now you got
- 12:33Speaker 1: to either perform or not, you know, and usually if
- 12:36Speaker 1: you perform, at some point, you you get caught up. Wow,
- 12:40Speaker 1: So at what point do you hit the next chapter? Um? Well,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I was done crashing out once I got out of
- 12:47Speaker 1: that situation, you know. Um they was at the pivotal
- 12:51Speaker 1: point where you said, no more crashing out, No more
- 12:54Speaker 1: crashing out, not no more crime. It's a difference, right,
- 12:58Speaker 1: So no more crashing out. Plus I had a child
- 13:01Speaker 1: on the way. So I had my first child at sixteen,
- 13:03Speaker 1: So my sense of urgency and trying to figure it
- 13:05Speaker 1: out was a little bit different, you know what I mean. Um,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I didn't like being locked up. I just ain't my ship.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I wasn't a born to lose as dude. Plus you
- 13:13Speaker 1: know I was raised on love. I'm only child. I
- 13:16Speaker 1: wasn't raised on survival. So you know I was making
- 13:18Speaker 1: these decisions just again, Like I said, I was a
- 13:22Speaker 1: follower of a destructive culture, not not a follower of
- 13:26Speaker 1: an individual or music or anything like that. Um, so
- 13:30Speaker 1: I knew better, you know what I mean. So I
- 13:31Speaker 1: come from good stock, but just again, making bad decisions.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But I say, I don't think that moment came to
- 13:40Speaker 1: my twenties. Maybe my that that you're asking, But I
- 13:43Speaker 1: think it's interesting. I've never heard someone say I was
- 13:47Speaker 1: a follower of destructive culture. I think that's I think
- 13:51Speaker 1: that's actually the world we continually like living to this date.
- 13:55Speaker 1: But um, I think that's interesting. I've never heard someone
- 13:58Speaker 1: say that, well, that that was my reality because I
- 14:00Speaker 1: was always a leader, even though I was the youngest person.
- 14:02Speaker 1: On my case, I've always been the runt, the young
- 14:05Speaker 1: because I hung around older people. But I was always
- 14:08Speaker 1: mature and I was always smart. So no one ever
- 14:11Speaker 1: influenced me or told me or put me on the
- 14:13Speaker 1: mission to do anything. I usually thought of it myself,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you know. But again it's the culture. You know, this
- 14:18Speaker 1: is what we're programmed. We programmed to be destructive. We're
- 14:21Speaker 1: programmed to not give a funk. We're programmed to suppress
- 14:24Speaker 1: emotion and and all of that, which, of course those
- 14:27Speaker 1: ripple effects you have to kind of undo as you
- 14:30Speaker 1: get older and you become civilized. But so you you
- 14:33Speaker 1: got rid of the I would say, like the crash clser,
- 14:38Speaker 1: But then you continued on to crime. Was that because
- 14:43Speaker 1: of survival at that point? Because you have a baby,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and what kind of crime are we talking? Um, well,
- 14:48Speaker 1: the stuff that I can say. I mean again, now
- 14:51Speaker 1: I start hustling, you know, I started getting into having
- 14:54Speaker 1: a plan not just going to jail, just be going
- 14:56Speaker 1: to jail. But but I also was doing music at
- 14:58Speaker 1: that time. So I graduated from high school at seventeen
- 15:02Speaker 1: and ninety four. I got my first record deal in
- 15:05Speaker 1: ninety five when I signed with No Limit. But I
- 15:07Speaker 1: was still in the street too, So yes, it's my
- 15:10Speaker 1: sense of urgency of having a child of how did
- 15:13Speaker 1: you cross paths with No Limit? Though? Mmm? Hustling man.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Just you know, I was a mature young and you know,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but I was making demo tapes and I just sent
- 15:23Speaker 1: them to all the record companies and because I was
- 15:25Speaker 1: gonna go to Ruthless actually, but Easy died that March
- 15:28Speaker 1: of so all the communication with Easy seas to obviously
- 15:33Speaker 1: well with Ruthless, and so then I put my sights
- 15:36Speaker 1: on everybody else. But Pete was just the one to
- 15:38Speaker 1: call back. Wow. Yeah, and then what was your first
- 15:42Speaker 1: interaction with Pete? Excuse me, um, I'm it's funny right.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So I'm living with my dad at the time, because
- 15:51Speaker 1: when I went to jail, the state took me from
- 15:53Speaker 1: my mom, made me live with my dad, put me
- 15:55Speaker 1: on house arrest. Because I was on house arrest for
- 15:57Speaker 1: like a year and a half. Hated it. So, um
- 16:01Speaker 1: I met my dad. Now I'm named after my father.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Just a quick question. When you're on house arrested, are
- 16:05Speaker 1: you actually stuck in the house? Yeah, like you can't,
- 16:08Speaker 1: like you can't go to the mail. So listen the
- 16:11Speaker 1: bunny think about it was. I used to look forward
- 16:13Speaker 1: to going to cut the grass, right because I could
- 16:15Speaker 1: go outside, but there was a part of the yard
- 16:17Speaker 1: I couldn't go past. So I used to have to
- 16:19Speaker 1: put a rope on the thing and like do it
- 16:21Speaker 1: because if I did it, then it was in the
- 16:23Speaker 1: signal and then the police would come. So, um, I
- 16:26Speaker 1: always wonder what the house you go outside? Yeah, you got.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It's just you can't go a certain amount of feet
- 16:31Speaker 1: from the thing that you wanted to go to, like McDonald's. No, no,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you can't do that. You's gonna go to jail. Dang.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And as a teenager too, so how did you go
- 16:41Speaker 1: to school? Um, they would allow me to go to school,
- 16:44Speaker 1: but I had a certain time to be back home.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It's like a girl ring. I got twenty minutes to man, like, oh,
- 16:51Speaker 1: if it was traffic, I'll be telling the bus driver, Man,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you gotta go. Bro. You gotta go. I gotta get home.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Like but the bus driver he knew. They knew, so
- 16:58Speaker 1: they would kind of make concession for me to get home. Um.
- 17:02Speaker 1: But so I'm sitting on the toilet stool, true story,
- 17:05Speaker 1: sitting on the toilet stool and phone rings. Now this
- 17:09Speaker 1: is back in the day. There's no cell phones. This
- 17:10Speaker 1: is the answering machine ship. Yeah. Yeah, So did they
- 17:15Speaker 1: even have called idea at that point though? And so
- 17:20Speaker 1: the phone rings and I'm like, I'm at home by myself.
- 17:23Speaker 1: So I'm like, okay, I get up. I waddled to
- 17:25Speaker 1: the phone, right, this is true story, ok, and then
- 17:29Speaker 1: my ankles. I answered the phone and uh, you know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: He's like, can I speak to Courtney? Now, I'm named
- 17:34Speaker 1: after my father on the second so I didn't recognize
- 17:37Speaker 1: the voice. Ain't none of my homeboys. So I'm like,
- 17:39Speaker 1: ship here here. So he was like all right, he
- 17:41Speaker 1: was like telling him master p call. And I was like,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was like, who is this. He was like, yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 1: this peak And I was like whatever, No, it ain't.
- 17:50Speaker 1: He was like, nah, He's like this peak. He said
- 17:52Speaker 1: this this court right, he said, you sent the tape?
- 17:54Speaker 1: I got it. So I was like, yeah, yeah. I
- 17:56Speaker 1: was like, man, I was. It was unbelievable, right, So
- 18:00Speaker 1: he was like he. I don't think he realized how
- 18:02Speaker 1: young I was, because he was like, what you dodging
- 18:04Speaker 1: somebody like you want to run or something like that.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So I'm like nah, but I didn't tell him like, actually,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm on house arrest, but you know what I mean.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So so we end up talking and he, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: he liked the tape that I sent him at the time,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and it was just me being consistent. It was me
- 18:21Speaker 1: being consistent because back in the day when you had
- 18:23Speaker 1: the CD in the tape, you had the dress and
- 18:26Speaker 1: the number on the back. I just called and filled
- 18:28Speaker 1: his voicemail of all of them, I just bugged him
- 18:30Speaker 1: to death. I just bug everybody to death. So um,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and so we wound up. I was a part of
- 18:37Speaker 1: a group called CCG with my partner Cisco, so he
- 18:40Speaker 1: flew us out to this time, he was still in
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Bay Area, so he flew us out. We did
- 18:44Speaker 1: down South Hustlers. That was my first goal. But how
- 18:46Speaker 1: did you do that while you're on house arrest? They
- 18:48Speaker 1: let me go, Yeah, wow. And did you end up
- 18:52Speaker 1: telling Pe you're on house rest? Yeah? Because he had
- 18:54Speaker 1: to advocate for me, like he had to see in
- 18:56Speaker 1: paperwork and let him know what I was doing, because
- 18:59Speaker 1: juven our court kind of works like family court, you
- 19:02Speaker 1: know what I mean. So it was doing when you're
- 19:04Speaker 1: a young you're a young kid. Yeah. Yeah, so, and
- 19:07Speaker 1: that's cool that I was actually getting off of house
- 19:10Speaker 1: arrest I was at because yeah, I think, yeah, I
- 19:13Speaker 1: was because when I when we went out there the
- 19:15Speaker 1: first time we came back, I was off. I was
- 19:17Speaker 1: coming off problem and you still have a great relationship. Yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 1: that's my brother was twenty six years Do you look
- 19:35Speaker 1: at him as a brother or a mentor both? Um? Both.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I'm an only child, so you know, of course naturally
- 19:43Speaker 1: he's always been like big brother and that's the nature
- 19:46Speaker 1: of our relationship. But you know, listen, I don't ever
- 19:49Speaker 1: take for granted who he is and what he's accomplishing
- 19:51Speaker 1: my access to him. So I would say both both. Okay,
- 19:56Speaker 1: So I didn't master p have any words of a
- 20:00Speaker 1: advice for like how you were living your life course,
- 20:04Speaker 1: because he seems like one of those dudes that aren't like, well, no,
- 20:07Speaker 1: back then he was. He was a gangster too, so
- 20:10Speaker 1: back then he understood what it was. We wasn't too far.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You know. He was just older than me, you know.
- 20:15Speaker 1: But but no, he was a gangster, so he understood.
- 20:18Speaker 1: But as I would say, probably when I moved here
- 20:22Speaker 1: to l A. When I moved here to l A
- 20:24Speaker 1: and we started doing different things, he you know, he
- 20:27Speaker 1: made it playing and a parent like, Bro, if you're
- 20:30Speaker 1: gonna be working with me and with me on ship,
- 20:33Speaker 1: you're gonna you can't have one ft in one ft
- 20:35Speaker 1: out like you gotta be doing this. So and did
- 20:39Speaker 1: you have enough money to give up a crime? Yeah?
- 20:42Speaker 1: When I moved out here, yes, I was blessed. Man
- 20:45Speaker 1: like when I moved out here. Um, I moved out
- 20:48Speaker 1: here twenty years ago. Um I got an interest in journey,
- 20:52Speaker 1: you know, because I had music. I was doing music.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I put out independent records as well. But I also
- 20:58Speaker 1: started buying real estate when I was young because I
- 21:01Speaker 1: had hustle money. I had dope money, and so I
- 21:03Speaker 1: knew nothing about real estate. I just saw the older
- 21:06Speaker 1: niggers in my hood buying houses, right, and I just
- 21:10Speaker 1: figured I would buy start buying houses in case I
- 21:12Speaker 1: went to jail. It was my plan. In case I
- 21:14Speaker 1: went to jail, I would have something to help get
- 21:17Speaker 1: me out. Yeah, you know, you had a plan for
- 21:20Speaker 1: your jail. I had a plan for jail. Yeah, real ships.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Everything you say is very interesting because you're coming from
- 21:27Speaker 1: this mindset of this and it's like a very toxic environment,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and you know you had your mom and your dad
- 21:33Speaker 1: and your life that like definitely my dad they well
- 21:38Speaker 1: your mom you know, loved on you, yes, for sure.
- 21:42Speaker 1: But it's like it's interesting because you're like a product
- 21:46Speaker 1: of your environment, survival of your environment, and like your
- 21:50Speaker 1: mindset was still planning to how to survive jail. It
- 21:54Speaker 1: was like the goal wasn't like how to take over
- 21:55Speaker 1: the world. It was it wasn't well, it wasn't necessarily
- 21:59Speaker 1: to go to jail. Was just covering that base. I
- 22:01Speaker 1: always had a plan to be successful, but it was
- 22:04Speaker 1: just I understood that, Okay, the chances of me going
- 22:07Speaker 1: to jail is there, right, So I started. I started,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and I'm saying this because I bought a house and
- 22:14Speaker 1: then I bought another. The first house I bought was
- 22:16Speaker 1: seventeen thousand dollars, right, I put another like fifteen thousand
- 22:20Speaker 1: into it, and I remember standing in front. I'm like
- 22:22Speaker 1: nineteen years old, and I remember standing in front of it,
- 22:25Speaker 1: like damn, okay, I can't rent this ship out for
- 22:27Speaker 1: six hundred a month. It's gonna take me forever to
- 22:29Speaker 1: get my money back. But the drug I hustled back
- 22:33Speaker 1: in the day was weed. It's legal now we're back
- 22:35Speaker 1: then it wasn't it right, So but it's not like
- 22:38Speaker 1: I made a lot of money with weed. But I
- 22:40Speaker 1: did it in volume. So because if I'm getting five
- 22:44Speaker 1: six hundred pounds at that time, you know, I may
- 22:46Speaker 1: only be making two hundred dollars off each one. But
- 22:48Speaker 1: it was a volume where I was getting my money,
- 22:50Speaker 1: so it went off. It's like, damn, this ship is volume.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So if I get tentities, you know what I mean?
- 22:56Speaker 1: And I and I'm looking at the residual income. Now
- 22:58Speaker 1: mind you, I don't have this language and a team, right,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but this is just my common sense. So that and
- 23:04Speaker 1: you're buying these houses cash cash, yep. I was buying
- 23:07Speaker 1: on cash, and so UM that couple with UM, I
- 23:11Speaker 1: was putting out independent records to where P as a
- 23:14Speaker 1: mentor big brother, I was putting my independent ship out.
- 23:18Speaker 1: He was he was making sure using his influence where
- 23:21Speaker 1: Southwest and select O some of these distributors would pay
- 23:24Speaker 1: me upfront from my CDs. So if I got that
- 23:26Speaker 1: thirty thousand units pressed up, I'm getting seven dollars a CD.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Seven dollars a CD, which is unheard of. No now, yeah,
- 23:34Speaker 1: it's impossible now, but no, this this is the norm
- 23:36Speaker 1: back then for independent. When independent, all the people from
- 23:40Speaker 1: the nineties, they know what I'm talking about. When you're
- 23:41Speaker 1: dealing with city hall, select those Southwest Gonzalez, all of that.
- 23:44Speaker 1: So so I had that working along with the hustle.
- 23:48Speaker 1: So when I moved to Cali, I was I was good.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I was in a good position. Okay, awesome. At what
- 23:53Speaker 1: age were you then? It was twenty six when I
- 23:55Speaker 1: moved again. Okay, okay, I'm trying to do the method time.
- 24:01Speaker 1: There's been like a little calculation this day he graduated.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And this is why I tell people sometimes you know,
- 24:09Speaker 1: it's just half the battle was showing up, right. Most
- 24:12Speaker 1: people don't even show up and try. Like I didn't
- 24:15Speaker 1: know what I was doing in the real estate, which
- 24:17Speaker 1: I end up building a multimillion dollar real estate portfolio.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I end up creating a property management company. And I'm
- 24:24Speaker 1: not formally educated in any of this. Ship I graduated
- 24:27Speaker 1: high school barely right, not because I wasn't smart, but
- 24:31Speaker 1: because of my my legal ship and just sucking up.
- 24:33Speaker 1: But um, and all I did was start. I knew
- 24:36Speaker 1: nothing about like leveraging I knew. I didn't even know
- 24:39Speaker 1: what equity was. I didn't know none of that ship.
- 24:41Speaker 1: So what at what point did you you know you're
- 24:43Speaker 1: buying this all this real estate? What point does someone
- 24:46Speaker 1: come along and say, you know you can do this
- 24:49Speaker 1: with this exactly? Yeah? What what it was is, um,
- 24:52Speaker 1: it was a lady from a local credit union there
- 24:55Speaker 1: that I do have a half brother that I met
- 24:57Speaker 1: once I got grown, and he was our really successful,
- 25:01Speaker 1: uh successful real estate investor. So he put me with her,
- 25:05Speaker 1: and I remember the first conversation we had. She was like,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I think I had on like fifteen properties and she
- 25:11Speaker 1: was like, you got fifteen property? I was like yeah,
- 25:13Speaker 1: she was like I was like twenty three. She was
- 25:15Speaker 1: like free and clear. I was like, yeah, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 1: like how else someone happened? I didn't know about credit
- 25:21Speaker 1: you have a lot of credit ASID, and didn't even
- 25:25Speaker 1: know what the what is that about? That's it perties
- 25:33Speaker 1: there it is And she's like all I knew? So
- 25:37Speaker 1: she was like she was impressed, and she was like,
- 25:40Speaker 1: do you know what you have? And I was like, yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 1: this is what your ship. I'm getting like five thousand
- 25:45Speaker 1: a month. Like shit, I'm good, right, So I say
- 25:48Speaker 1: probably in about three months. About three months later, she
- 25:52Speaker 1: gave me a line of credit over those properties for
- 25:55Speaker 1: like eight hundred thousand dollars. And then that's when the
- 25:58Speaker 1: light bulb went out, like oh shit, I just work.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I was like, oh ship, Okay, let's repeat now yea.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And so that's what opened up my eyes to that
- 26:11Speaker 1: part of the game, you know what I mean. And
- 26:13Speaker 1: so when I moved, you know, the property management thing
- 26:16Speaker 1: came in just by accident, you know, just because me
- 26:19Speaker 1: being from somewhere else and I would run into investors
- 26:22Speaker 1: and because I traveled a lot and they would have
- 26:24Speaker 1: properties in Kansas City too, and they'd be like, man,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you got a good h V A C. Guy, You
- 26:27Speaker 1: got this guy, And I'm like, I'm from there. So yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 1: So the end it donned don't be like you know
- 26:31Speaker 1: what how many properties you got? And what is your
- 26:33Speaker 1: mama saying while all this is going on. My mom
- 26:37Speaker 1: was proud my mom. But I had a cool mom.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Mane I grew. I'm the only child, so it was
- 26:42Speaker 1: always just me and my mama. So even when I
- 26:44Speaker 1: was doing my criminal ship, my mama knew what it
- 26:46Speaker 1: was like. She, like my mama, knew I was carrying guns.
- 26:50Speaker 1: She knew all of that. But I'm just curious what
- 26:52Speaker 1: that conversation between you and her were like in terms of, oh,
- 26:56Speaker 1: my son's carrying a gun. She right there with me.
- 26:59Speaker 1: She know what it. She wants me to be safe.
- 27:01Speaker 1: She'd rather me get caught with a gun and get
- 27:03Speaker 1: a car to that I'm dead, you know what I mean.
- 27:06Speaker 1: So you know, she she she she get on the house,
- 27:09Speaker 1: hustle with you at some point and say, wow, this
- 27:12Speaker 1: is a great Uh. No, my mother worked in the
- 27:15Speaker 1: medical film. Yeah, she was a technician. She wasn't curious
- 27:20Speaker 1: like my son owned Did she know you own these?
- 27:23Speaker 1: I bought her house. I gave her one. Okay at
- 27:27Speaker 1: a young age too. Yeah. My mother actually passed away
- 27:29Speaker 1: in the house that I bought her and gaged. Sorry
- 27:32Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, so you're doing music. At some point
- 27:38Speaker 1: you decide to retire from music? Why? Yeah? Um, you know,
- 27:43Speaker 1: I think I was always a little older than what
- 27:46Speaker 1: people thought, you know, just like now right. And I
- 27:49Speaker 1: had been doing it for so long up until the
- 27:52Speaker 1: early two thousands, and I just started to see, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 1: you got to know when it's time to pivot and
- 27:58Speaker 1: do something different. You know, the sounds start to changing,
- 28:01Speaker 1: the culture started shifting, and I started seeing success in
- 28:04Speaker 1: other arenas, you know, which when I moved to l A,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I started, Um, I transitioned into getting in the film produced.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Like my first movie I produced was with me and
- 28:13Speaker 1: Kat Williams and Lord's Hill Jacobs. I spent like two
- 28:16Speaker 1: hundred fifty thousand of my own money, right, so, um,
- 28:19Speaker 1: you know, I just started having affections doing different things
- 28:22Speaker 1: and I was outgrowing that, you know, because I started
- 28:25Speaker 1: at like twelve years old. So by the time I retired,
- 28:28Speaker 1: I'm like twenty six seven. You know, I've been doing it.
- 28:31Speaker 1: And I felt like you remember the movie Pulp Fiction.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I do. I saw it when I wasn't allowed to
- 28:37Speaker 1: see it. Okay, do you remember do you remember when
- 28:40Speaker 1: I was too young to see if my dad walked
- 28:42Speaker 1: us right in there, Like, sir, your three kids are older,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm their dad. They're going to see this is what
- 28:49Speaker 1: And you know, Quin Tarantino is one of my favorite filmmakers,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and there's a there's a there's a part in there
- 28:56Speaker 1: with ving Rains says to Bruce Willis's character, he say, uh,
- 29:00Speaker 1: you know, if you were going to make it, you
- 29:01Speaker 1: would have made it by now, you know. So that
- 29:04Speaker 1: was the conversation I had with myself a seven. I'm like,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I've had some success, some independent success, but you know,
- 29:11Speaker 1: if I was going to be Little Wayne or whatever
- 29:13Speaker 1: the case, maybe that ship would have happened by now,
- 29:15Speaker 1: because back then it was different. I wish more aspiring rappers. Yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I had that conversation. Shout out to everyone that on
- 29:23Speaker 1: Hollywood Boulevard in two thousand and twenty two. That is
- 29:26Speaker 1: the conversation is true. This is true, and you know,
- 29:30Speaker 1: let me again, I had some success, yeah, just saying
- 29:33Speaker 1: you know, I wasn't a Little Wayne exactly. So um,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and you gotta understand it's different too, because see back then,
- 29:39Speaker 1: when your ass was knocking on thirty, you was old.
- 29:42Speaker 1: It's a little different now, you know, but back then
- 29:44Speaker 1: thirty was like oh ship, So you know, um yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 1: so I just you know, I found interest in other areas.
- 29:51Speaker 1: So when you produced the film with Cat Williams, was
- 29:55Speaker 1: it a win win or was there some failure in there?
- 29:57Speaker 1: Oh it's ship. It's been failure and everything that I've done. Um. Yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 1: Like I was telling the Fellers earlier, I failed gracefully.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I felt all the time I felt. I felt gracefully.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I felt a lot. I feel like a victim. Then
- 30:10Speaker 1: I feel like a monster. Then I like internalized. I
- 30:15Speaker 1: go through all the phases of brief when I fail.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Oh really, oh man, you gotta see you And then
- 30:22Speaker 1: I'd be like, yeah, that's the process that just lets
- 30:25Speaker 1: you know you're trying, right. So, Um, the failure was
- 30:30Speaker 1: lack of of of information because I used my own money.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That was the failure to begin with, because I shouldn't
- 30:36Speaker 1: have done it, but I had it. I end up
- 30:38Speaker 1: getting my money back. What it's funny. What's funny to
- 30:41Speaker 1: that story is Cat Williams was a friend of mine
- 30:44Speaker 1: Lord's Hill and Jacobs was too, and so I started
- 30:47Speaker 1: the movie as well, and I end up getting distribution
- 30:50Speaker 1: for the movie. I flew all the way over to
- 30:52Speaker 1: the Cans Film Festival to goddamn get distribution with a
- 30:56Speaker 1: company that was around the corner from my house, and
- 30:58Speaker 1: then see which was the stupidest thing right, So that
- 31:01Speaker 1: was failure number two. So, um, I end up getting
- 31:05Speaker 1: my money back, but they made way more than that.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I didn't understand the business. You know, I could just
- 31:11Speaker 1: do it, you know what I mean. So what I
- 31:13Speaker 1: would have done differently is I would have when I
- 31:15Speaker 1: say it's a failure, is I would have used my
- 31:17Speaker 1: money to attract other money and then once I reached
- 31:20Speaker 1: that target, go pull my ship out. You know what
- 31:22Speaker 1: I'm saying. That's what I would have did. But again, yeah,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I had to do it, you know, I had to
- 31:26Speaker 1: suck it up to learn. Were you one of the
- 31:28Speaker 1: first people to invest in Cat? No, he was already
- 31:31Speaker 1: Cat Williams at that point. He was Cat. He was
- 31:36Speaker 1: he was a partner. Let me tell you something. I
- 31:39Speaker 1: love me some Cat Williams. Cat Williams ever blesses this show. Yeah, boy,
- 31:43Speaker 1: it would be a very happy day for me, I promise.
- 31:46Speaker 1: You know, me and Cat have had you know, we've
- 31:48Speaker 1: had a strain uh relationship. But um, he's one of
- 31:54Speaker 1: the most talented comedians, one of the most intelligent, one
- 31:58Speaker 1: of the most well read and uh insightful motherfucker's I've
- 32:02Speaker 1: ever talked to. Yeah, and I think he's very well
- 32:06Speaker 1: rounded and his delivery and his uh, his perception. I
- 32:10Speaker 1: love comedians because they have like this nice artistic perception
- 32:14Speaker 1: and they have to creatively deliver it where you know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: they don't get Will Smith's left. I don't give this
- 32:20Speaker 1: this this um, I don't give the accolade out loosely.
- 32:24Speaker 1: But I would say Cat is probably borderline genius. Like
- 32:27Speaker 1: he's super smart, even off for the stage, he's super smart.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I just wonder like, is he is he sweet behind
- 32:34Speaker 1: the scenes or is he like a asshole? All of that?
- 32:40Speaker 1: All of that, Yeah, that's that's that's the thing about comedy.
- 32:43Speaker 1: You know, Richard Pryor, you know, there was there was tragedy,
- 32:47Speaker 1: there was there was trauma, there was all of that
- 32:49Speaker 1: with Richard Pryde, which what is what made him great?
- 32:51Speaker 1: Same thing with Cat. You know, Cat is an asshole.
- 32:55Speaker 1: He's he's the sweetest guy on earth. He's the meanest
- 33:00Speaker 1: eye on earth. He's all of that, you know, depending
- 33:03Speaker 1: on what catch you get at what moment. You know. Now,
- 33:06Speaker 1: I haven't been around him in some years, so I'm
- 33:09Speaker 1: speaking to when I was around him, because you know,
- 33:10Speaker 1: we all evolve and grow, but he's the he's the
- 33:13Speaker 1: dude that could be arrogant, be an asshole, just click
- 33:17Speaker 1: out and just just do some dumb ship. But he'd
- 33:20Speaker 1: be the same guy to take jury off his neck
- 33:22Speaker 1: and give it to strangers. He's the same guy who
- 33:25Speaker 1: you know, give cars away if somebody needs transportation, you
- 33:28Speaker 1: know what I mean. So yeah, he's the same guy
- 33:31Speaker 1: who his son, Um, he has one son, Micah. His
- 33:36Speaker 1: siblings micas siblings were you know that the mother was
- 33:40Speaker 1: going through some drugs. Ship, he went and adopted the
- 33:43Speaker 1: siblings that aren't even his kids, you know what I mean.
- 33:45Speaker 1: So he's the same guy that would do that, you
- 33:47Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But but that's all of us,
- 33:50Speaker 1: though all of us have different sides and you know,
- 33:52Speaker 1: and and and places that we we you know, we
- 33:55Speaker 1: could work on. So what got you into podcasting? Um? Shoot, well,
- 34:02Speaker 1: me and Master P had a show called Doing the
- 34:05Speaker 1: Most on Playboy Radio about five years ago. That was
- 34:08Speaker 1: my first introduction to this space. Um, and it was
- 34:12Speaker 1: Jay Tweezy shout out to Joy J Tweezy, who he
- 34:15Speaker 1: kind of said, you know what, Court you good at this?
- 34:18Speaker 1: I was like really, he was like yeah, but I
- 34:21Speaker 1: think ship of it, you know, so at that time
- 34:23Speaker 1: came and and went. Um from that, Uh, I had
- 34:29Speaker 1: a little show at Dash Radio with up there at
- 34:32Speaker 1: DJ Ski of their own. Is DJ Ski still in
- 34:36Speaker 1: l A? I think so, I don't know. I know
- 34:39Speaker 1: that the build is still there, but I don't know
- 34:41Speaker 1: if he's still there. So I had a little show
- 34:43Speaker 1: up there, um and then you know, I put it
- 34:46Speaker 1: down for a few years. But during the quarantine, you know,
- 34:50Speaker 1: I've always been a big fan of vlad Um of
- 34:54Speaker 1: Gangster Chronic Coach. You know, I'm watching Dream Champs, I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: sitting still. So I felt like I had something to
- 34:59Speaker 1: offer in this space. And you know, and it's crazy
- 35:02Speaker 1: because Black gets you know, Black gets a lot of um,
- 35:07Speaker 1: not a lot, but you know, he gets backlash. Did
- 35:11Speaker 1: you have you ever interviewed him? I haven't, haven't. I
- 35:14Speaker 1: think he's on my bucket list. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we
- 35:17Speaker 1: speaking of bucket list, I mean, I was blessed enough
- 35:19Speaker 1: when I did start. I started with some of my
- 35:22Speaker 1: but I started with Iced Tea. I started with Jay Prince.
- 35:25Speaker 1: They were too But most of the people I've had
- 35:27Speaker 1: on my show, I've known person I know personally nine
- 35:30Speaker 1: nine percent of them. But h they're like six degrees
- 35:32Speaker 1: from separation because I'll be like, homie, your friends are
- 35:35Speaker 1: such and such you need really, Yeah, I've been around
- 35:41Speaker 1: for a long time. See, I'll make phone calls, but
- 35:43Speaker 1: then I'll also do the oh your friends are such
- 35:46Speaker 1: a such yeah connected, Yeah, I had to do that,
- 35:50Speaker 1: like as of recently, I've been doing that a lot
- 35:52Speaker 1: because again, you know, you're running out of friends. Yep.
- 35:55Speaker 1: That's how it is, you know. And it's funny. One thing,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I never try to meet or one of the people
- 36:01Speaker 1: that you looked up to and that you some of
- 36:03Speaker 1: your favorite artists because it just don't work out. You
- 36:06Speaker 1: don't be liking them when you get Please God, don't
- 36:09Speaker 1: let that be for jay Z or Drake. Please don't
- 36:11Speaker 1: do it that. Like I mean, I feel like jay
- 36:15Speaker 1: Z can't let you down. He's too He's an evolutionary crosses.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You never know. You never know, maybe Kanye right now,
- 36:23Speaker 1: because you never know. You never know. I mean, because
- 36:26Speaker 1: you know, Iced Tea was someone you know. I have
- 36:28Speaker 1: Iced Tea paintings in my house of the album cover.
- 36:31Speaker 1: You have big five by five um of the album
- 36:34Speaker 1: cover Power. So iced Tea was always someone that you know.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I grew up. That was the first gangster rap record
- 36:39Speaker 1: I've ever heard. But iced tea super cool, you know,
- 36:43Speaker 1: super one hunted like I'm hitting for advice whatever whatever.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Jay Prince same way, you know, which obviously there's already
- 36:50Speaker 1: a relationship there no limit and ramp a lot um
- 36:53Speaker 1: and you know, even with Jay Prince being under fire
- 36:56Speaker 1: you know here recently, um unfairly out but you know
- 37:00Speaker 1: I kind of took some heat with that as well.
- 37:03Speaker 1: But um, yeah, but my bucket list would be Magic
- 37:07Speaker 1: Johnson and uh Mike Tyson. Oh, Mike Tyson would be
- 37:12Speaker 1: good Tyson. Mike Tyson is one of my favorite people. Yeah,
- 37:15Speaker 1: if you met him in person, I love me a
- 37:18Speaker 1: guy that can evolve like like especially when you can
- 37:21Speaker 1: see the flower. Now, do I want to be patient
- 37:24Speaker 1: and like stand next to him during his monster face?
- 37:26Speaker 1: Absolutely not. I would. I would fight Mike Tyson. I would.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I would fight Mike Tyson. I would because it would
- 37:32Speaker 1: be an honor to get knocked out by Mike Tyson.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. My my husband is a
- 37:37Speaker 1: stand up comic and so he was on one day.
- 37:39Speaker 1: He comes home, he's like he comes over, he like
- 37:42Speaker 1: puts his phone and He's like, listen to my set tonight.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, nothing new, you know, maybe he has
- 37:46Speaker 1: a new joke in there or whatever. He plays a
- 37:48Speaker 1: set all sun here alright, Mike, like you want to fight,
- 37:52Speaker 1: you want to fight, and all of the sun not here.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Oh he's got a gun. You hear the rooms and
- 37:56Speaker 1: I'm like listening, Yeah he was. He was on stage
- 37:59Speaker 1: and like some guy pulls out a gun on Mike
- 38:02Speaker 1: and yeah, that was my husband on stage, and uh
- 38:06Speaker 1: and all I could think was like, I mean from
- 38:09Speaker 1: a woman's perspective, it's like, oh my god, like you know,
- 38:11Speaker 1: there was a small chance that this could have been
- 38:14Speaker 1: the last time. But then all I kept thinking, and
- 38:16Speaker 1: I didn't see the clip, was you didn't get off
- 38:19Speaker 1: the stage, you know, like that would be the time
- 38:22Speaker 1: to like run duck high. I'm from New York. It's like, yo,
- 38:25Speaker 1: what do you There's nothing to be discussed, Like that's it.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'm out. And he was on stage performing and then
- 38:32Speaker 1: Michael was like keep performing, you know, and Michael's really sweet,
- 38:36Speaker 1: but but yeah, I remember hearing the clip at night
- 38:40Speaker 1: and being like traumatized, like oh man, comics, like you know,
- 38:44Speaker 1: the club was that yeah, we don't. But it's funny
- 38:48Speaker 1: when you watch a clip he didn't get off stage,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and I was like, vaguely, I remember Mike hugging Due.
- 38:53Speaker 1: He hugged the dude. Yeah, yeah, But I had seen
- 38:56Speaker 1: just the I had the audio because you know, comics
- 39:00Speaker 1: or their sets, so I didn't know what I was
- 39:02Speaker 1: about to listen to. I'm listening for jokes and all,
- 39:04Speaker 1: and then you hear like Mike's voice, you know, and
- 39:07Speaker 1: and I just was like what. And then I saw
- 39:09Speaker 1: the clips on like TAMS the next day, and I
- 39:11Speaker 1: was like, fool, you didn't get off the stage. We
- 39:14Speaker 1: have a brand new baby from Shout the Box actually
- 39:17Speaker 1: did something. He's from Detroit, you know, which he was
- 39:21Speaker 1: just like he was totally with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 39:25Speaker 1: he was totally with it. And I'm like, yo, I
- 39:28Speaker 1: get it. You know when I go to First of all,
- 39:30Speaker 1: when I go to Detroit, Detroit produces some of the
- 39:34Speaker 1: most amazing entrepreneurs. But it's like Detroit is like an
- 39:39Speaker 1: island of for me. It's just it's a very conflicting
- 39:45Speaker 1: because it's like, you know, houses and neighbors that are
- 39:47Speaker 1: like the houses are like torn down half time. I
- 39:52Speaker 1: don't even understand why the city doesn't. If this was
- 39:54Speaker 1: l A, they would have mold all those houses down,
- 39:57Speaker 1: like you know, soide is, I don't understand. How do
- 40:02Speaker 1: you make it out of those environments? Like you really
- 40:04Speaker 1: have to think big? Yeah you do, a lot of
- 40:07Speaker 1: it starts with, you know, sometimes leaving the environment. But
- 40:10Speaker 1: it's it's really start. All that ship is mental perspective,
- 40:14Speaker 1: Like like, man, listen my neighborhood that I come from, right,
- 40:17Speaker 1: I come from a neighborhood called the Foe Block one three.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Oh Um, I lost. I lost my first friend when
- 40:24Speaker 1: I was thirteen. He was shot in front of me,
- 40:26Speaker 1: right accidentally, but he died right. So I came up
- 40:31Speaker 1: with some super talented guys, you know, better looking to me,
- 40:35Speaker 1: smarter than me had. You know, all of us have
- 40:38Speaker 1: our different our gifts. Right, But when you look at
- 40:41Speaker 1: all the people I came up with and you say,
- 40:42Speaker 1: with damn, why is he the one that was able
- 40:44Speaker 1: to transcend? It was all just mental. That's it. Not
- 40:47Speaker 1: set me apart, but just the way I thought, the
- 40:49Speaker 1: way I looked at things perspective. So um, all that
- 40:52Speaker 1: ship is mental, you know what I mean? Like whether
- 40:55Speaker 1: you think you can do something, whether you think you can't.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Either way you write, it's just you know. Either way
- 40:59Speaker 1: you're right. That's interesting the way you're right, you know.
- 41:02Speaker 1: So it's all about perspective. Problem problem. So what can
- 41:17Speaker 1: you tell us about holding court? Holding Court podcast? Man?
- 41:22Speaker 1: So again black excellence and niggership. It's the it's the
- 41:27Speaker 1: same platform where I could have someone like a Chico
- 41:31Speaker 1: Brown come in who's from Compton, from Corner Pocket Crib
- 41:34Speaker 1: and he was Freeway. Ricky Ross is co defendant. Actually
- 41:39Speaker 1: when Ricky Ross got caught up with Blandone and the
- 41:41Speaker 1: deal for the hundred bricks, those were Chico's bricks. Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 1: he Rick Rick was just freeway. Rick was just middleman
- 41:48Speaker 1: in that. But so I like to document the journey
- 41:52Speaker 1: people's journey because Chico saying that right. But now he
- 41:56Speaker 1: works in Compton, he employs Pirrous and cribs, works in
- 42:00Speaker 1: the community where they they rehab homes, gives some jobs.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Him and master p just did uh they do a
- 42:07Speaker 1: Christmas thing and Thanksgiving thing and Compton um every year. Um.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So I can have someone like a Chico Brown and
- 42:14Speaker 1: then turn around and have somebody like a Michael John
- 42:17Speaker 1: White who's a friend of mine, martial artists, you know
- 42:19Speaker 1: what I mean, movie star, somebody like an iced tea,
- 42:22Speaker 1: you know. Um. So I just like documenting the Germany journey.
- 42:26Speaker 1: I even had Chrip mac on there. So I have
- 42:28Speaker 1: influencers and all of that, you know what I mean.
- 42:30Speaker 1: So I grew up on our Senior Hall show, you know,
- 42:34Speaker 1: and so I kind of did this this this blend
- 42:38Speaker 1: of talk show kind of and if you see my set,
- 42:41Speaker 1: it's kind of like that, um with some influence from
- 42:45Speaker 1: Gangster Chronicles, influence from and influence from No Jumper, from
- 42:50Speaker 1: Adam Um and some of some other stuff mixed with me.
- 42:53Speaker 1: So I love your interview style, like you really. I
- 42:58Speaker 1: always say like there's there's the year of viewer that
- 43:00Speaker 1: like kind of pre kind of determines their questions. I'm
- 43:04Speaker 1: not that type. I don't do that. I'm like, I
- 43:07Speaker 1: want to be fully invested in everything you have to say,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and I'm really just trying to pull everything out of you.
- 43:14Speaker 1: But similar to like Norm from Gangster Chronicles, I think
- 43:17Speaker 1: we really, I think all of us are us three
- 43:22Speaker 1: um our podcast really enjoyed the journey of people. Sure,
- 43:26Speaker 1: you know, sure, and and you know, like I just
- 43:29Speaker 1: recently did Matt Barnes, you know, And after we got done,
- 43:33Speaker 1: Matt was like wow, he was like, man, he said,
- 43:35Speaker 1: you you know, you asked me some ship that I
- 43:37Speaker 1: nobody asked me. Like, even with him being bi racial,
- 43:41Speaker 1: I love that question. I was shocked. I was like,
- 43:44Speaker 1: I was just I love that you asked that question.
- 43:47Speaker 1: I think, um, I'd love that you asked that question
- 43:51Speaker 1: for a multitude of reasons. And it's not just because
- 43:53Speaker 1: I'm biracial. But I'm learning and I didn't learn until
- 43:56Speaker 1: and I tell people this all the time. Trevor Noah
- 43:58Speaker 1: had a book called Born a Crime, and my whole
- 44:02Speaker 1: life being born by racial I was always torn exactly
- 44:06Speaker 1: how Matt described it. You know, you're not black enough.
- 44:09Speaker 1: You to white people. You just nid you know what
- 44:11Speaker 1: I'm saying. And then you're growing up in this really
- 44:14Speaker 1: toxic environment trying to figure out whatside to choose. And
- 44:17Speaker 1: it wasn't ntil. Trevor Noah put out the book Born
- 44:19Speaker 1: a Crime. I don't know if you read that book.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Amazing at least for a mixed person. I did not
- 44:26Speaker 1: think I had an identity until I read that book
- 44:28Speaker 1: and I said, oh, ship, mixed people were a race.
- 44:32Speaker 1: We're like, we have our own problems. Yeah, and and
- 44:36Speaker 1: before it's like, you know, black people be like, oh,
- 44:38Speaker 1: you don't really understand because you know you're not really
- 44:39Speaker 1: black or or you know, you wouldn't understand. But it's like,
- 44:43Speaker 1: but we have it, we get we get. My little
- 44:47Speaker 1: brother who was also a comic, he he had said
- 44:49Speaker 1: it one time. It's like, um, I think he had
- 44:52Speaker 1: said this once. Um. It's crazy because even with the
- 44:55Speaker 1: white side from us, like dealing with the racism or
- 44:58Speaker 1: the the non equality on the white side of our family.
- 45:02Speaker 1: It's like you're sitting at the table with someone that
- 45:06Speaker 1: that you love or you're supposed to love, and they
- 45:08Speaker 1: love you, but you're not exactly equal, and you're like
- 45:11Speaker 1: breaking bread with this person. And you know, as a
- 45:14Speaker 1: black person, you know, you don't want to be the
- 45:17Speaker 1: nigger that they think you are, so you're like, I'm
- 45:19Speaker 1: gonna try and go above and beyond. But you're sitting
- 45:23Speaker 1: at the table with the enemy, you know, like it
- 45:26Speaker 1: kind of it kind of sucks, but it's it's true.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Like someone said to me, they're like, you have family here,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I mean, just because they're racist,
- 45:33Speaker 1: it's like yeah, but just think about that, like you know,
- 45:35Speaker 1: they're like you know, like yeah, I mean they may
- 45:37Speaker 1: be a little racist, but like you know, it's it's
- 45:39Speaker 1: the truth though, like, um, it's a and you know,
- 45:43Speaker 1: I was born in the eighties. Similar Like when Barnes
- 45:46Speaker 1: was talking, I think he was saying, like, you know,
- 45:48Speaker 1: now we grew up in a different era where it's
- 45:51Speaker 1: a little bit more of a melting pop. But like
- 45:53Speaker 1: you gotta think about like his grandparents, my grandparents that
- 45:56Speaker 1: grew up in a different era that are like so
- 45:58Speaker 1: that a mixed, Like how did the identifying your mom
- 46:01Speaker 1: and dad happened to navigate that ship? Then? Yeah, because
- 46:05Speaker 1: it wasn't cool. It wasn't cool. Let me tell you
- 46:07Speaker 1: the first time I heard the word nigga. I remember
- 46:13Speaker 1: my parents bought a house and upstate in New York,
- 46:15Speaker 1: and like my mom's poodle ran on this white person's
- 46:19Speaker 1: yard and they're like football, kick the poodle. I was like, yeah,
- 46:23Speaker 1: like you know, leave nigger or something. And I was
- 46:25Speaker 1: like what And they were like cold to her, and
- 46:27Speaker 1: my mom's approach was like just keep being nice and
- 46:30Speaker 1: eventually to realize, like, you know, just a black person
- 46:34Speaker 1: and you know whatever. And I think if you go
- 46:37Speaker 1: to that same neighborhood, those people that were calling her
- 46:39Speaker 1: nigga ironically are like really good friends with her. But
- 46:43Speaker 1: it took years of her like knocking on their door
- 46:45Speaker 1: every year, giving her giving Christmas presents, and you know,
- 46:48Speaker 1: the kids not being allowed to play with us. And
- 46:51Speaker 1: my mom would always be like, be nice to them
- 46:53Speaker 1: because the kids are just trained to hate you, but
- 46:55Speaker 1: they don't really know. You know, you can. But that's
- 46:58Speaker 1: a lot to go through just to you know, it's
- 47:01Speaker 1: it's unfortunately you are on the receiving end of that.
- 47:03Speaker 1: But but that's what I tell people. Man, we if
- 47:06Speaker 1: you think about it, right, what you're saying that those
- 47:08Speaker 1: people coming around, right, you know, social media is is
- 47:12Speaker 1: to me, I hate it because you know social media,
- 47:15Speaker 1: everybody's looking for that aha moment that I got your
- 47:18Speaker 1: moment like that. No, but they don't want to let
- 47:20Speaker 1: anyone grow, right, So you know everybody has this lynch
- 47:24Speaker 1: mob mentality if you did it, if if you like,
- 47:26Speaker 1: even with the Jerry Jones saying thing not not not
- 47:30Speaker 1: absolving him of anything, but I mean that ship years ago.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I know plenty of people I've done ship and said
- 47:37Speaker 1: ship that I'm not in that same space now, right,
- 47:40Speaker 1: So you know, we shouldn't have to have these disreputable
- 47:44Speaker 1: moments where it's like you can't even walk it back,
- 47:46Speaker 1: you can't even Is that cancel culture? Is that? Is
- 47:48Speaker 1: that social media both that that should go hand in
- 47:52Speaker 1: hand because you know, cancel culture is fueled and you know,
- 47:55Speaker 1: and that ship is supported with social media and popular opinion,
- 47:58Speaker 1: you know, And I think that you know, even with
- 48:00Speaker 1: Will Smith, Okay, he funked up, but I mean it's like,
- 48:03Speaker 1: damn dude, been around thirty years, squeaky clean, he sunk
- 48:06Speaker 1: up one time now just throwing me away. It's like,
- 48:08Speaker 1: goddamn all flowed. That's none of us are infallible, Like
- 48:15Speaker 1: like me and you, we're in the media space. We
- 48:18Speaker 1: may fucking misspeak sometimes, I agree, but I think media
- 48:21Speaker 1: and that was that was gonna be my next question,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and I talked about it with my crew all the time.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Is you know, I'm kind of irritated about what's going
- 48:28Speaker 1: on with Kanye West because I think at some point
- 48:32Speaker 1: we have to choose a moral obligation in our thoughts
- 48:36Speaker 1: and in our moves, and as a media company, I'm like, yo,
- 48:38Speaker 1: Kanye West. Not an opportunity interview Kanye West right now?
- 48:43Speaker 1: What I take it? Hell, yes, it's Kanye West. But
- 48:47Speaker 1: knowing that he's in the middle of an episode, and
- 48:50Speaker 1: we all know, like you know, we love to claim
- 48:52Speaker 1: mental health is like super important, super important, super important,
- 48:56Speaker 1: but he's clearly in the middle of an episode. He
- 48:58Speaker 1: just went through a divorce, He's he's literally in the
- 49:00Speaker 1: middle of a trauma war zone, right. Um. Why what
- 49:05Speaker 1: I don't like about the way they're treating Kanye is
- 49:08Speaker 1: that in the middle of an episode, he's saying statements
- 49:11Speaker 1: which they're definitely I get some of his perspective in it,
- 49:17Speaker 1: you know what he's trying to say, and I get
- 49:19Speaker 1: what the media is trying to portray what he's trying
- 49:21Speaker 1: to say. But the thing that really bothers me is
- 49:23Speaker 1: that the taking away of stuff from him is like, Okay,
- 49:27Speaker 1: Kanye said this, so we're gonna we're gonna take away this,
- 49:29Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna cancel this. He's in the middle
- 49:32Speaker 1: of an episode, a mental uh psychotic episode. You put
- 49:37Speaker 1: a mic in front of him, you air it, then
- 49:40Speaker 1: you micro you know, tear it apart, and and you
- 49:44Speaker 1: then you punish him for it, And at what point
- 49:48Speaker 1: do you and do you actually do this? Do you
- 49:50Speaker 1: feel like you have a moral uh compass when it
- 49:53Speaker 1: comes to the media that you put out. Do you
- 49:55Speaker 1: think that if Kanye was on your show and he
- 49:57Speaker 1: said some some of the statements, would you have released
- 49:59Speaker 1: it for or click or would you have listen? That's
- 50:03Speaker 1: the one thing about my platform is integrity. Yeah, I've
- 50:07Speaker 1: saved some of my other guests from ship that they
- 50:09Speaker 1: don't even know because sometimes they get on there and
- 50:12Speaker 1: you know, conversation get good and I'll go and I'll
- 50:15Speaker 1: be like, yeah, I'm gonna take that ship out. I'm
- 50:18Speaker 1: gonna do you a favorite, you know what I mean. So,
- 50:20Speaker 1: um yeah, I'm not because we don't have to do
- 50:22Speaker 1: it now. I'm for letting people speak their truth and
- 50:26Speaker 1: letting people, you know, um be, you know, represent themselves
- 50:29Speaker 1: how they want to. But if I feel like it's
- 50:32Speaker 1: something that's going to overtly offend someone or overtly hurt them,
- 50:38Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to share in that, So
- 50:40Speaker 1: I do it now. So yes, just so you know,
- 50:42Speaker 1: I do the same, I will. I've been in the
- 50:47Speaker 1: business for a long time with my other company, I'm
- 50:49Speaker 1: the same way. If anything, I'll call like a manager
- 50:52Speaker 1: or someone to say, you know, I may be concerned,
- 50:54Speaker 1: you may want to talk to them. Definitely not releasing,
- 50:57Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. That's why we have to
- 51:00Speaker 1: you know, we gotta deal with each other with grace
- 51:02Speaker 1: and mercy. Man, That's what I hate about social media
- 51:04Speaker 1: because everybody wants to hold somebody to a standard that
- 51:08Speaker 1: they can't even hold themselves to. You know, everybody wants
- 51:11Speaker 1: to hold everybody to some perfection. Like everybody talking like
- 51:15Speaker 1: even these people pulling ship from Kanye whatever, and it's
- 51:18Speaker 1: canceled culture. The people doing the canceling dig into their
- 51:22Speaker 1: ship and see what they got going on. See what
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, that's that's what I'm saying. He who
- 51:28Speaker 1: has not sin cast the first stone. So that's what
- 51:31Speaker 1: I don't like about. So like, I don't take like
- 51:34Speaker 1: and this is another thing, and you probably can't agree
- 51:36Speaker 1: with me on this. It's like we can debate the issue,
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know, but people get away from debating the issue
- 51:44Speaker 1: and start attacking the person. You know, we're in such
- 51:47Speaker 1: a vitriolic, you know space where you know, it's always
- 51:52Speaker 1: these these pejorative comments and it's always disrespecting ship. And
- 51:56Speaker 1: you don't even got to do that right, like we
- 51:58Speaker 1: can have, you know, uh, a convert intellectual conversation. You know.
- 52:04Speaker 1: So if Kanye came on my ship, I would ask
- 52:06Speaker 1: him the ship that the real Niggers want to ask him,
- 52:09Speaker 1: and if people every day people want to ask him,
- 52:11Speaker 1: and if he said some goofy ship, I would in
- 52:14Speaker 1: love challenge him, you know. But that's the thing. I
- 52:17Speaker 1: don't think Kanye ever really says anything goofy, like no, no, no, Now,
- 52:22Speaker 1: I don't tell you why I say that. He just
- 52:24Speaker 1: said some goofy ship today. He's autistic, he just said,
- 52:27Speaker 1: he said he's not bipolar. He might be slightly autistic. Okay,
- 52:31Speaker 1: well against psychotic episode that I don't even count that.
- 52:35Speaker 1: But if I look at I remember, I want to say,
- 52:39Speaker 1: I forgot which album it was, may have been the
- 52:43Speaker 1: Heartbreak was the Heartbreak album. I'm not a big Kanye fan,
- 52:46Speaker 1: so I don't know. I realized a long time ago
- 52:49Speaker 1: that Kanye was borderline genius. I was at a listening
- 52:52Speaker 1: party of his and I said, yes, okay, yes, and um,
- 52:59Speaker 1: but I was like his the way his information flows
- 53:02Speaker 1: in and flows out maybe at a higher speeds. That's
- 53:08Speaker 1: how I feel. But most of his points, I think,
- 53:12Speaker 1: if you, if you weren't to tear it apart and
- 53:14Speaker 1: you just like listen to it entirely and you like
- 53:16Speaker 1: pulled it from a just no judgment zone, there's a
- 53:22Speaker 1: lot of there's a lot that I can't give him
- 53:24Speaker 1: genius because he's not saying I get it. Sometimes when
- 53:26Speaker 1: he's trying to make points and say ship, yeah, some
- 53:29Speaker 1: some of the ship, he's saying it is valid, right,
- 53:31Speaker 1: but he ain's saying no prophetic ship that ain't nobody
- 53:34Speaker 1: else said. He's not saying anything that's you know, that
- 53:37Speaker 1: hasn't been said or it is not obvious. To be
- 53:40Speaker 1: a genius to you, you would have to say some
- 53:42Speaker 1: like outstanding over the top. Now you gotta say some
- 53:44Speaker 1: ship that we don't know already, or say some ship
- 53:47Speaker 1: that the average layman motherfucker don't can be like yeah,
- 53:49Speaker 1: you know, because you think about it, if he's such
- 53:52Speaker 1: a genius, we're only paying attention to him because of
- 53:54Speaker 1: the antics. But he was saying, he's been saying this
- 53:57Speaker 1: ship forever, Like think about it. He's been right, he's
- 54:01Speaker 1: he's been But we didn't pay attention to him until
- 54:04Speaker 1: I mean his music, right, Yes, he's a great he's
- 54:06Speaker 1: a great musician and producer. But when he said, George
- 54:09Speaker 1: Bush don't care about black people, so it's the antics, right,
- 54:13Speaker 1: Like nobody has ever quoted something he said, They only
- 54:17Speaker 1: quote the antics. I'm just curious what has he said
- 54:19Speaker 1: that's been to you? A genius? Um, As I spoke before,
- 54:27Speaker 1: I loosely, I would say, I said Cat, which hell
- 54:31Speaker 1: at a time, you could put him in Kanye in
- 54:33Speaker 1: the same boat at a time, and I would say
- 54:42Speaker 1: this maybe because I know Cat, uh, you know, know
- 54:45Speaker 1: him personally. Um, genius, I maybe genius is a strong
- 54:53Speaker 1: We'll take back the genius. I'm gonna I'm gonna take
- 54:56Speaker 1: back the genius, thank you, because he's definitely not. But
- 54:59Speaker 1: you may have take back the genius from Cat too. Okay,
- 55:02Speaker 1: I can't, but I said, I did say genius, like
- 55:06Speaker 1: genius and genius. I think jay Z is a genius.
- 55:11Speaker 1: But you know what, I do think genius is a
- 55:13Speaker 1: very grand title. So I'm gonna take you think jay
- 55:16Speaker 1: Z is a genius? Why? Um, Because similar to a comedian,
- 55:22Speaker 1: he like he takes things in. He's well read, he
- 55:25Speaker 1: knows how to communicate in all rooms. He understands chess
- 55:29Speaker 1: versus checkers. He plays at a different level, and he's
- 55:33Speaker 1: evolved so much over time. He definitely has evolved. Or
- 55:36Speaker 1: is it that he's genius enough to put experts around him.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I am a firm believer. I'm a firm believer in
- 55:45Speaker 1: being the smallest fish in my little pond. I like
- 55:48Speaker 1: having better and stronger people around me, and that's genius
- 55:51Speaker 1: in itself. I think Kanye is suffering from being the
- 55:54Speaker 1: big fish in his pond. Yes, I agree with you.
- 55:57Speaker 1: I agree with you. He needs to take all them
- 56:00Speaker 1: little baby, because to kick them out of his little
- 56:02Speaker 1: there's no checks and balances in his world. And it's
- 56:05Speaker 1: it's said, yeah, you know, listen, I pray for Kanye.
- 56:09Speaker 1: You know, I think I don't. I don't think that
- 56:12Speaker 1: there's an ounce of hate in Kanye's heard. I don't
- 56:15Speaker 1: think that he's not a hateful person. He's not, you know.
- 56:18Speaker 1: If anything, people need to either just ignore him or
- 56:23Speaker 1: or or or get him help, you know what I mean.
- 56:25Speaker 1: And that's what I don't like about the social media too,
- 56:28Speaker 1: because they exploit them like like you know, you putting
- 56:32Speaker 1: a loudspeaker to his his outbursts. You know what I'm saying,
- 56:35Speaker 1: Like you don't. The media also say that he's in
- 56:37Speaker 1: the middle of a mental episode. But if that's if
- 56:40Speaker 1: that's the case, right, stop stop but not only stop
- 56:44Speaker 1: putting the mic, but the blog sites like stop picking
- 56:48Speaker 1: the ship up, stop making it viral, stop giving it air.
- 56:52Speaker 1: You know, because if you guarantee, if Kanye got no attention,
- 56:56Speaker 1: he would probably shut up. He would probably shut up,
- 57:00Speaker 1: you know what I mean. If he knew that if
- 57:02Speaker 1: I say something, no matter what I say, it's gonna
- 57:04Speaker 1: be on TIMZ, it's gonna be on every blog site.
- 57:07Speaker 1: That's power, that's power. He know. He ain't that far gone,
- 57:10Speaker 1: you know, he got that right, So so again who
- 57:14Speaker 1: you know what I mean? But the blog sites everybody,
- 57:17Speaker 1: like that's where the integrity comes in because I don't,
- 57:20Speaker 1: you know, I don't traffic in that, like even like
- 57:22Speaker 1: we were talking about with still even with the controversial ship,
- 57:25Speaker 1: like the clubhouse ship and all that type of ship,
- 57:28Speaker 1: like it's a place for it, I guess, but I don't.
- 57:30Speaker 1: I just I feel like you don't have to do that.
- 57:32Speaker 1: You ain't really gotta play dirty in this game for real,
- 57:35Speaker 1: if you just create, if you really have a skill
- 57:37Speaker 1: set and you create some compelling content, some ship that resonates,
- 57:43Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, don't get me wrong,
- 57:44Speaker 1: it ain't gotta be all stiff and serious, you know.
- 57:46Speaker 1: I mean, you know I'm not above being a cheerleader
- 57:49Speaker 1: for foolishness. You know what I'm saying. So um, you
- 57:52Speaker 1: know I I do some nigga ship too, and say
- 57:54Speaker 1: some nigga ship, but you know I ain't trying to
- 57:56Speaker 1: tear nobody down or exploit nobody in that. And if
- 57:58Speaker 1: I am tearing you down, it's in up. I allow
- 58:00Speaker 1: you to tearing me down. I tell everybody around me
- 58:05Speaker 1: the day you throw a stone at my glass house,
- 58:07Speaker 1: just no, yeah, I may not have noticed you were
- 58:10Speaker 1: in a glass house before, but now it's game on.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Like I told him back fast, I'm like a little
- 58:16Speaker 1: rock gun man. That's the funny thing you say that
- 58:19Speaker 1: I always say. I don't throw any stones. Listen. I
- 58:23Speaker 1: don't even sneeze or breathe hard in my house because
- 58:26Speaker 1: the how the glass in my ship is very thinly
- 58:29Speaker 1: thinly failed glass. So if I breathe too hard, that
- 58:33Speaker 1: ship shaw. So I definitely ain't throwing no rocks. If
- 58:36Speaker 1: if you throw one stone at me, I promise you.
- 58:39Speaker 1: I may not have noticed you're in a glass house,
- 58:41Speaker 1: but I assure you before that stone hits my glass,
- 58:46Speaker 1: I realized you're in a glass house. And I'm not
- 58:47Speaker 1: firing at all. Yeah, the culture is, man, we need
- 58:51Speaker 1: more love, more grace. And again I'm not no we
- 58:54Speaker 1: are the world type motherfucker. But I'm just saying we
- 58:56Speaker 1: need more balanced man, like you know what I mean
- 58:59Speaker 1: that and that's what That's what my podcast, that's what
- 59:02Speaker 1: I tried to bring to the game. It's just balanced.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Like p calls me to hip hop Oprah. You know, man,
- 59:07Speaker 1: people man, you like the hood Oprah because you know,
- 59:10Speaker 1: I hadn't had real killers, like real street niggas coming
- 59:12Speaker 1: to mind, I haven't had a couple of niggas cry
- 59:14Speaker 1: on my show, you know, so, which to me is
- 59:16Speaker 1: an honor, you know, because they felt so comfortable and
- 59:19Speaker 1: so vulnerable. Hell I even started crying one time, you
- 59:22Speaker 1: know me and what's hold me quine share the moment
- 59:25Speaker 1: talking about our deceased parents. So I like to be
- 59:28Speaker 1: able to, you know, represent the culture in a different way.
- 59:32Speaker 1: You know. I like to when I say, like, represent
- 59:34Speaker 1: the evolved nigger, you know what I'm saying, and have
- 59:37Speaker 1: that balance like that. I think the culture needs it.
- 59:40Speaker 1: I think society needs it. I think, yeah, definitely, definitely.
- 59:44Speaker 1: And I think having real conversations and and and not
- 59:48Speaker 1: all the bullish it and the gloss and you know,
- 59:51Speaker 1: and and just even if we disagree, you know, it's
- 59:54Speaker 1: just really just learning from each other, you know. So
- 59:56Speaker 1: I'm all about love, man, I ain't you know? We
- 59:58Speaker 1: got enough of the hate, the hating and the hate
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and all the bullshit, you know. So yeah, that's what
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: my podcast represents. I love it. I love it. I
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: thank you for coming on our show. Thank you for
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: having me. You didn't take your hair down. My hair
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: was always down, you all I have. I actually keep
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: my hair and braids is my favorite thing to do.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: But braids be costing a lot of money nowadays. You
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: try to find out braid. Finding a braid is try
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: and get a good that you got all that good ship?
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Ain't that the good? The good good good good the
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: curly hair front. Well, I'm going to finish this chicken
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: sandwich because I'm starving. Um, But where can our fans
