- 0:02Hi, everyone.
- 0:02It's Rob Sander Hodge.
- 0:03Thanks for tuning in again this week.
- 0:05Today I have a colleague, so they're plaster silk, who's does go to spend some time today
- 0:12with us, speaking about healings.
- 0:15Let me tell you a little bit about her Her and I have been, in a professional speaking
- 0:20organization together called Capps, and we have a lot a very similar background in a lot of
- 0:25ways.
- 0:25So I think gonna have some fun talking today.
- 0:28She's an author.
- 0:30She's a second time author.
- 0:31She's written 2 books and we'll talk about the most current 1.
- 0:34And she's an intuitive counselor who integrates traditional therapy, with energy work, to help
- 0:41individuals just to transform their life and live fully on purpose.
- 0:46The most recent book, which is the 10 things you need to know to heal.
- 0:52And that was just released.
- 0:54What was that, Solia?
- 0:55Oh my goodness.
- 0:56Last week.
- 0:57Amazing.
- 0:58Amazing.
- 0:59Well, congratulations.
- 1:00What a what a big feat because the first 1 was in 2013.
- 1:05So quite a while.
- 1:06Quite a while.
- 1:07What what was that process like again for you writing a second 1 that long after?
- 1:13In some ways, felt like I needed that long after to recover from writing the first 1.
- 1:18This 1, felt easier, probably because I'm sharing more from my heart in this 1 in terms
- 1:26of my experience of being a long term therapist and what do I know?
- 1:32And what am what are the 10 things that I think are most important to hearing?
- 1:38Of course.
- 1:38And I think like I was saying to Sylvia my year has been long and I'm gonna love this
- 1:43conversation today because I want some new tips myself.
- 1:46So let's let's taught let's jump right into, what do you find that most people think about
- 1:55healing generally?
- 1:56When you talk to people, the average lay person, to the people that come to you, for
- 2:01healing, what what is a misconception that people have about healing?
- 2:06Healing is hard and healing is painful.
- 2:10Yeah.
- 2:11So sometimes people want to come to you and they want you to kind of just wave a magic wand
- 2:16and everything will be better versus knowing that there's a lot of work involved in in
- 2:21healing.
- 2:22Actually, the way that I work is a bit different, in that people it doesn't have to be
- 2:29so hard.
- 2:30Like, I remember when I first started working as a therapist, we told people that they had to
- 2:35tell their story to get their power back, and that's not the case.
- 2:39Not the case at all.
- 2:41I've helped people, work through, sexual abuse.
- 2:46I still don't know who their abuser was I don't know the absolute details of the abuse, and yet
- 2:53I've helped them come to terms with it feel the emotions of it, understand what it doesn't mean
- 3:00about who they are, as in to remove it from their core identity, so that they can move
- 3:08forward in a more peaceful way.
- 3:10And I do that in such a act well, it go I go deep very quickly, but every step of the way I
- 3:17keep them grounded.
- 3:19Right.
- 3:20So I think so is the is the fear that people feel like they have to, tell every, you know,
- 3:27maybe potentially shameful detail that have nothing to do with them.
- 3:32So that they shy away from save dealing with that kind of trauma.
- 3:36Exactly.
- 3:38Yeah.
- 3:38I don't wanna have to.
- 3:39And I think for so many years, that's what we had people do, was share those details, and
- 3:45they didn't get relief from them.
- 3:47It often triggered more traumatic experience because they'd walk out of a session with all
- 3:53this fresh wounding versus helping them come to the core of it and understanding what that
- 3:59means.
- 4:01So let's talk a little bit about what we know now about healing.
- 4:04To your point, when we graduated a couple years ago, right, so maybe not too
- 4:08many ago.
- 4:10Maybe 3 years ago.
- 4:12Yeah.
- 4:12Yeah.
- 4:12It was that whole concept that you had to, you know, you had to regurgitate.
- 4:15You had to purge all those things.
- 4:17And we're finding that in fact, you know, what what I love about what you do in reference to
- 4:22energy and I don't think a lot of people know a lot about energy healing especially in the
- 4:27corporate environments that I might work in or you've you've done a fair amount of work.
- 4:32So I want you to kind of break down what traditional healing is.
- 4:37Right psychotherapy, social work.
- 4:39I know your background is social work from Ryerson.
- 4:42Mine's psychotherapy from UT.
- 4:44What's the difference or I should say difference, but some of the ways that the
- 4:49approaches have changed to in integrate energy medicine and what is energy, healing, or energy
- 4:56medicine?
- 4:58Okay.
- 4:58So again, traditionally, we thought you needed come in and talk.
- 5:01And what we're learning about the brain is as you talk and relive those memories again and
- 5:07again, it actually hardens the connections with the neurotransmitter.
- 5:12So it actually kind of blocks in the trauma more.
- 5:16And so when I'm working with energy, I'm using my intuition.
- 5:20I'm helping the bot helping my client use their own, what I call body wisdom.
- 5:26That knowledge, where is when when I even think about this issue, where does it show up in my
- 5:32body?
- 5:33Because I think the energy when we are For me, when I think it, when I use the word trauma,
- 5:39what I mean by that is you've had an experience at some point in your life where you were
- 5:45unable to express and get support for the emotions that you were experiencing.
- 5:51Mhmm.
- 5:52And to me, that's what creates trauma.
- 5:55So those mon those energies of those emotions get stuck in our bodies.
- 6:02They stay in our bodies, and that's what this new work that that they're calling somatic work
- 6:07is.
- 6:07And I did somatic work before it was a thing.
- 6:11Oh, yeah.
- 6:13And, and so it's really helping the client be so present in their own experience and finding
- 6:22it in their bodies and experiencing just the emotion of it without going through all of the
- 6:28details.
- 6:30Because as we have those emotion, strong emotional connections that we can't talk about,
- 6:36We subconsciously create a lot of meaning about who we are, whether the world is safe, and it
- 6:43plays out everywhere in our lives.
- 6:45It plays out majorly in our in our workplaces.
- 6:49Like, I think about some of my early work experiences as a I was a temporary secretary in
- 6:54Toronto while I was working my way through university, and I think about how I reacted in
- 7:01the place at that point was a lot about what I thought about myself because of the trauma I'd
- 7:06endured, and it was long before I started to heal.
- 7:11So for me, it's really helping you understand because often we have aches in those areas.
- 7:20Right?
- 7:20And people go to doctors to try and find out what what the ache is because it feels very
- 7:25physical.
- 7:27I remember years years ago having a woman come in and talk about this feeling, and now I'm an
- 7:33path so I can actually feel energy from another person and feel what it feels like.
- 7:39And she's like, I have this sensation in my belly and And so I kind of tuned into it.
- 7:44And I said it feels like when you've eaten too much bread too quickly, and you can't digest
- 7:51it.
- 7:51She goes, that's exactly what it feels like.
- 7:54And it was stuck energy.
- 7:55So then we worked at it from an emotional energetic point you of what's the meaning of
- 8:01this for you, and she was able to get relief from that feeling.
- 8:06Interesting.
- 8:07So so kind of I know we're jumping right in because I, to me, I wanna I wanna know the
- 8:14process.
- 8:14Right?
- 8:15Mhmm.
- 8:16So when you work with somebody like Obviously, you develop trust.
- 8:20You know, the person feels safe with you.
- 8:22They they intuitively would kind of, you know, feel grounded to be able to proceed.
- 8:28Is it that you're having them dialogue with that part of themselves in order to understand
- 8:33what narrative that or or story they're telling themselves about that part of their, body, like
- 8:41what what's what's kind of a process that you go through.
- 8:44So my process is very intuitive.
- 8:47So each person, it's slightly different Roxanne.
- 8:50And, So what I do is I have them think about the experience.
- 8:56Just think about it.
- 8:58And then I'll ask them where does that show up in your body?
- 9:01And they'll and I say torso because my to me, your emotions started torso.
- 9:06And for the first thing that I teach, every client, I just wanna say this is how to ground
- 9:10themselves.
- 9:11Right.
- 9:12Okay.
- 9:12And that's chapter 1, because you need to stay grounded in the work.
- 9:19If we can't keep a client safe, they can't process stuff.
- 9:24Right?
- 9:24They're going to fall into that fight or flight kind of response.
- 9:28So in keeping them safe and grounded, connected to the earth, connected in their bodies, what
- 9:35does that feel like?
- 9:36And then we'll go in and we'll we'll I may ask, what does that, if it if it had a voice, what
- 9:44would it say to you?
- 9:47Then I might ask where where, you know, is that familiar to you?
- 9:52When do you first remember thinking that way?
- 9:56I may use a pendulum, and get an age of caught, but I call age caused.
- 10:03So I'm going back to the first experience.
- 10:07So for example, I had a woman who I was working with, and she was an extreme caretaker.
- 10:14She did everything for everyone at her own expense all of the time.
- 10:19She came into me absolutely exhausted.
- 10:23And we went in to do some work together and, we got to the physical issue in the body, and then
- 10:31I got age 2.
- 10:33And I said to her, okay.
- 10:35I'm getting age 2, and I don't expect that you'll remember it.
- 10:38She goes, I know exactly what happened.
- 10:41I said she said I've been told many times.
- 10:45So and then but as she started to talk about it, she started to remember it as well.
- 10:50And what happened was She was 2 years old.
- 10:54Her parents weren't paying attention.
- 10:55Her brother who was a number of years older to he was in his teenage years.
- 11:00Went to off to school in the morning.
- 11:03Doing what a teenager's supposed to do was kinda self involved, didn't notice her
- 11:07following him as he shouldn't have.
- 11:10And she followed him and got lost.
- 11:13A kind lady picked her up, took her to the police station, the police knew whose child it
- 11:17was because a small town And they called the parents.
- 11:21When her mother came to the hot to the, sorry, police station, she was angry And in that split
- 11:29second, that 2 year old child thought and came to believe the only way to be safe is to make
- 11:35sure mom is happy.
- 11:38And then she started her life of over care taking.
- 11:43Wow.
- 11:45That impressionable little baby, Randy, you would say, kind of figured out figure out a way
- 11:52that in order to make mom happy, somewhere read the connection that I'm just gonna do and do
- 11:57and do to gain that love.
- 11:59Pretty powerful stuff.
- 12:01And I think a lot of people always say, you know, that's people minimize.
- 12:04I'm when I would practice.
- 12:05Right?
- 12:06It's like, yeah.
- 12:06It's like, oh, yeah.
- 12:07Well, what's a big deal, Roxanne?
- 12:08We've all been through stuff.
- 12:09Right?
- 12:10Mhmm.
- 12:10But until it kinda gets to the point where, like you said, she's coming to you.
- 12:14She's probably depleted at every level and wanting wanting wanting the help.
- 12:20How did it show up somatically for her?
- 12:22Where did it show up for her?
- 12:24Oh, that that client was a few years ago and that they got.
- 12:29And when you work intuitively, you don't remember a lot of stuff.
- 12:32I'm so confidential in my work because if I don't take notes, I don't remember what's
- 12:37happened.
- 12:39I don't remember, but I'm going to probably say in her in her root shock for a secondary shock
- 12:46for us.
- 12:46So in her lower tummy.
- 12:48Her lower tummy, which would make sense.
- 12:50And for little ones too, developmentally, you know, when I would practice with kids, you
- 12:54know, people would bring them in and, you know, they would say, well, you know, they're having
- 12:59really, really upset stomach.
- 13:01You know, they don't wanna eat.
- 13:02Or, you know, they're they're saying they they're sick.
- 13:05They're sick.
- 13:06And that's generally the part of the event that they're connected with the most So it would
- 13:11make sense developmentally for her too.
- 13:14So let's let's, you know, for a lot of people that are in corporate They're not sure of the
- 13:20styles, right, Sylvia?
- 13:22And I think that's why when you and I, we actually spent some time in Quebec City at our
- 13:27convention and were able to try to kind of talk about that thing.
- 13:31And at that point, I should let you know that this amazing woman had she had not talked to me
- 13:36about writing a book.
- 13:37So this is like 6, 7 months later, and it's out, which is just truly amazing.
- 13:43So going back to 10 things you need to know.
- 13:47You you talked the first 1 about grounding.
- 13:50So I want you to just break down for, you know, because I, you know, a lot of times when I talk
- 13:54to people, I we assume that they know what we mean.
- 13:57And for the HR professionals or the leaders or the senior people that may be listening to
- 14:02this, explain to them what that means what what is grounding from chapter 1?
- 14:09So ground, maybe describing grounding as the that's to go the opposite.
- 14:16When you're not grounded, you tend to be reactive, you tend to be a little bit more
- 14:22emotionally sensitive than you ordinarily would be.
- 14:28You tend to say things, blur it out things that you maybe go, oops, did I really say that with
- 14:35my outside voice?
- 14:38So what grounding is, and maybe it's just as simple just to do that grounding exercise here.
- 14:44Sure.
- 14:45I'm I'm I'm in.
- 14:47Okay.
- 14:48So what I encourage people to do is put their feet flat on the ground, sit up as straight as
- 14:56is comfortable for skin on the balls of your feet.
- 15:06And imagine out of that balls of your feet, roots growing deep, deep, deep, down into the
- 15:13core of the earth.
- 15:20And as you get closer to the core of the earth, you notice a great big boulder, and you allow
- 15:26those roots to grow around the boulder.
- 15:38Nice.
- 15:39Now how are you feeling Roxanne?
- 15:41Great.
- 15:41I'm not.
- 15:42Yeah.
- 15:42More more grounded.
- 15:43I have 1 of those things that my feet.
- 15:45So I mean, it's there's a little bit of striation under it.
- 15:48So I could I could really feel it at my desk.
- 15:52Really, really nice.
- 15:53So that's a great example.
- 15:55So you could really do that anywhere, and I'm always talking about, when I when I train and
- 16:01speak about those micro, breaks that people need to do often, right?
- 16:06Because a lot of times I just did a couple of trainings last week And the the, of course, the
- 16:11first thing people talk about is a lot, you know, I was, dealing with the management team
- 16:16and out of the room of about 15, 7 of them don't take lunches.
- 16:24Yeah.
- 16:25You know, so even something as basic as this, to be able to do that, you know, would would
- 16:31help them.
- 16:31But so that containment, that ground days, That safety and coming back to the present is really
- 16:37what you want people to do, you know, as they start the the journey with you.
- 16:43Absolutely.
- 16:44And and it's something that I think it's a skill.
- 16:46I use it every day.
- 16:48Yeah.
- 16:48I think it's a perfect skill to be using every single day of your life.
- 16:53Yeah.
- 16:53And, you know, 1 thing and I often, you know, I don't know if you know, we probably know I
- 16:57would grow up in Trinidad.
- 16:59So we I was joked around that when I kid we ran around bare feet because it was tropics.
- 17:04So, you know, what I often do now still, like, in my back here as I walk around in my yard,
- 17:12you know, even when I'm watering my plants or whatever because of that element of of that
- 17:16grounding and what they've shown in the research about the elements of getting
- 17:20connected to the energy from the earth as well.
- 17:23So, you know, again, it's something so simple that people could do anywhere as well.
- 17:28Exactly.
- 17:29Yes.
- 17:30So grounding is 1.
- 17:32Another core 1 that we do not well do well in our culture in North America is we do not feel
- 17:40our emotions.
- 17:42We're taught to calm down.
- 17:45Oh, it'll be okay.
- 17:47They're there.
- 17:49Yeah.
- 17:49Yeah.
- 17:50And so the next 1 for me is really getting in touch with your emotions.
- 17:55And feeling where they are in your body.
- 17:58So I go through my entire process on how to do that and how to practice that on a daily basis
- 18:03so that we know exactly where we're at because when feelings become our friends and not
- 18:11something to be pushed away, we process things in the moment.
- 18:17Yeah.
- 18:17We don't build up.
- 18:18We don't have what I call trauma.
- 18:21Because you can talk about them with a trusted person that doesn't say they're there.
- 18:26It'll be okay.
- 18:27Now now the you know, there's other fish in the sea and all those platitudes, but we'll just
- 18:32sit with you and allow you to feel whatever you're feeling.
- 18:37Know, I was actually thinking about last week when I spoke it.
- 18:40I was saying when I came to Canada, like, I was 16.
- 18:44And the 1 thing I remember a Sylvia was when I would say, how are you?
- 18:49And I'm great.
- 18:50How are you?
- 18:51And I'll be like, because in Trinidad, the way I grew up, if things weren't good, people would
- 18:56tell you.
- 18:57Oh, I'm having a good, bad day.
- 18:59I'm having a bad day.
- 18:59How about you?
- 19:01I came to Canada and it was, you know, of course, I'm quite young, still, and I'm like,
- 19:04everybody's great.
- 19:05I'm out here.
- 19:06Oh, good.
- 19:07I'm great.
- 19:08How are you?
- 19:08And I'm like, And I was, kitting around with that leadership team and they said, you know,
- 19:13it's it's not interesting, right?
- 19:15That, you know, but if I were to stop someone, say, you know, really, really, I'm having a
- 19:20tough time, how comfortable would they be with that?
- 19:24And most of the leadership team were not comfortable.
- 19:28Right?
- 19:28So that element.
- 19:30Yeah.
- 19:31Imagine being a leader who can say I'm having a bad day today.
- 19:36And it's not a big deal.
- 19:38Yeah.
- 19:39Right?
- 19:39When we humanize the workplace, it's so much better.
- 19:46Because we're allowed to have a bad day.
- 19:48We're not hiding it and making secondary mistakes.
- 19:52Bring more compassion for ourselves and for other people into the workplace.
- 19:57And frankly, there's not enough compassion out there.
- 20:01Right?
- 20:01Because mental health, like, I, you know, is on a continuum.
- 20:05Right?
- 20:05It could be that, you know, I am having difficulty with you know, my young child to,
- 20:12you know, my mom's been put in the hospital to something a lot more significant, right?
- 20:18So all of us at any given point and when we look at the data around mental health and for
- 20:23instance, anxiety being so high the staff has gone through the roof.
- 20:26So that's 1 of the 2 potentially people in any given room.
- 20:32They're having an issue.
- 20:33Could be small.
- 20:35But on on address to your point, it's the suppression that ends up being a mental health
- 20:40concern.
- 20:41Right.
- 20:42And that hiding Like, how much energy does it take when you're having a really bad day to
- 20:48hide it and act like everything's fine?
- 20:53Yeah.
- 20:54But it isn't.
- 20:55Right?
- 20:56And we so we're so distracted.
- 20:58I remember when I first started speaking way back in the in the nineties, and I would be so
- 21:05nervous when I took the stage.
- 21:07And if I didn't acknowledge it, and I just started to speak, and I tried to push through
- 21:12it, I would choke on my words, I would be like that, and I couldn't speak.
- 21:18And then when I started to do was I started to say to the crowd, whoever I was speaking to the
- 21:24audience, I'd say, I'm nervous.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:28People would lean in and have this compassion for me that here I was nervous sharing this
- 21:33stuff.
- 21:34Like, I didn't have it altogether.
- 21:36T.
- 21:36I don't already still.
- 21:38Yeah.
- 21:39Yeah.
- 21:39And and then
- 21:40I would find that I was much more eloquent in how I spoke.
- 21:45Because I took 10 seconds to acknowledge how I was feeling.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:52So important to you know, and suppression of emotion.
- 21:57You know, if we look at it, you know, from a really a health perspective, of, you know,
- 22:03people will suppress until the bodies stretch to fall apart.
- 22:08I you know, most people and this is known and you probably know this from practice as well.
- 22:13That 95% of these issues that go to family adults are in fact psychological and emotional
- 22:18But most people, like, I, you know, they could bat around the away the thoughts, you know,
- 22:23really easily, right, the emotions, same thing.
- 22:26Emotions get started to get a little bit thicker and harder.
- 22:29But when the body says I'm topping out now, and I'm gonna give you high blood pressure.
- 22:34I'm gonna make you prediabetic.
- 22:36You know, I'm gonna give you insomnia, TMG, TMZ RJ, that there's no negotiate because now you
- 22:43can't function.
- 22:44And then that's when the body in my opinion, takes control and says, I'm gonna shut you down
- 22:47because I gotta take it myself.
- 22:49Right?
- 22:50It's like the body saying, you weren't listening to me.
- 22:54So let's have a conversation right now because we need to do something differently.
- 23:00Absolutely.
- 23:01And going back again to that whole element, of of energy, right, and blocks, right?
- 23:07Which is really what you're talking about.
- 23:10Which is which is really, really amazing.
- 23:13So I want to make sure we get through most of the steps, and and don't get lost for time.
- 23:19So tell me about some of the other steps.
- 23:22So there's there's 9 more but so you you you tell me you tell me what they are and then
- 23:27let's let's decide which ones we wanna focus on or even demonstrate something that so that
- 23:33people and and I really, you know, for clinicians or people that are in the field,
- 23:37they're gonna get this stuff.
- 23:38Right?
- 23:39Mhmm.
- 23:39But it's for the average person that's sitting there at work that's list that would be listed
- 23:43as they go.
- 23:44Wow.
- 23:45I mean, I can do this thing.
- 23:48I can think about this differently.
- 23:50I can, you know, put my feet on the ground and and think of it roots of a tree going up and me
- 23:57see myself get energy.
- 23:59These are the practical things, Sylvia, that I think oftentimes A lot of people don't realize
- 24:04that when they see the proper practitioner, and it may not be a traditional kind of, you know,
- 24:12you know, psychotherapist social worker that they get with the deed, which is basically
- 24:17lifelong training strategies for taking care of their own health.
- 24:23Right.
- 24:24Absolutely.
- 24:25Okay.
- 24:25So, everything is energy as a first chapter.
- 24:30So everything is energy.
- 24:32Our emotions are energy.
- 24:33Our physical ailments are energy.
- 24:36How do we address those?
- 24:37Dealings are fluid.
- 24:38So they I talked about that.
- 24:41When we feel them, they pass.
- 24:43It's amazing.
- 24:45It's unbelievable.
- 24:47You're not what happened to you.
- 24:50Yeah.
- 24:51And I often say, you know, in my First book, I will say you are not defined by the by the pain
- 24:57that you have experienced in your past.
- 24:59Right?
- 24:59Yeah.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:01So I talk about a little mind trip to get through that.
- 25:06Patterns are created.
- 25:07So what I talk about is I work on patterns and patterns are intertwined emotions, thoughts,
- 25:14often subconscious beliefs that are tied up that we often don't have awareness of how play
- 25:21how they're play how excuse me, how they play out in our lives.
- 25:25And so it's helping you understand what a pattern is and how it's created and starting to
- 25:31look at some of the patterns that you have.
- 25:34And patterns are wonderful until they're not anymore.
- 25:40Right?
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:40And being able to see them, right?
- 25:42Because, you know, I don't know about you, but I even, myself and my personal life, people
- 25:46say, do you realize you do blah blah blah?
- 25:47And then this happens and I go, I do.
- 25:50Right?
- 25:50Because we're so unaware, especially people closest to you.
- 25:54And then then you go, oh, I guess I do do that.
- 25:56I didn't realize I did it to that extent because we're just like that automatic pilot's
- 26:02bitch.
- 26:02Right?
- 26:03Yes.
- 26:03Yeah.
- 26:04Fed by our unconscious or subconscious.
- 26:07Anxiety is a mind sport.
- 26:10I like that.
- 26:12So tell me more about that.
- 26:14Anxiety lives in the mind.
- 26:17So absolutely, yes.
- 26:18The physiological symptoms that we feel when we have anxiety feel very real, and they are
- 26:24happening.
- 26:26I believe anxiety happens when we're out of touch with our emotions.
- 26:32You know, I hope that I hope you've coined that anxieties that might because that is a 1 liner
- 26:37that I think would stop a lot of people.
- 26:41Like, I I love it because it's making me think when, you know, when you know, you have you're
- 26:45juggling a lot and and then you realize it's a little bit more because it's lingering.
- 26:49You kinda you do the thing and then you calm down and fine again, but when it kinda stays
- 26:53elevated, right?
- 26:55And then like you said, then it ends up in your head Right?
- 26:59So it it's really it's a it's a sport you're practicing in a way, and you're getting really,
- 27:02really good at.
- 27:04Yeah.
- 27:04And anxiety's never real.
- 27:08What I mean by that, it's never in the moment.
- 27:12It's always the mind going to somewhere else what's going to happen, what could happen in
- 27:17catastrophesing.
- 27:20So never present in the moment.
- 27:22We do not feel anxiety in the moment.
- 27:25Right.
- 27:26So it's about the future projection and what could potentially happen and what what what's
- 27:30it saying 99.9% about of what we worry about.
- 27:34If you look back really didn't happen until it's something critical and then you're like, I
- 27:38should have saved up all of the energy for this time.
- 27:41Because I really need it now because this is real and this is needing my energy.
- 27:45Right?
- 27:46Yes.
- 27:46Yep.
- 27:47Yeah.
- 27:47So then I share with you a master patterns process on how, that I created to help release
- 27:54some of the old patterns that aren't working for you in your life anymore.
- 27:58We talk about empaths, but what happens to you, what we often call sensitive, overly sensitive
- 28:04to emotional, pick me than 1 of them empaths.
- 28:09And what that means and how to release other people's energy that we may be holding on our
- 28:13bodies and not even aware of.
- 28:16Intuition.
- 28:20Intuition.
- 28:21How do we use our intuition?
- 28:22Imagine using intuition more effectively in the workplace.
- 28:26Think about the weird inventions that have happened.
- 28:29How did people come up with using horse urine to as a hormone for replacement for women?
- 28:37Like, who thought of that?
- 28:39It had to be an intuitive thing.
- 28:41Yeah.
- 28:41Because it doesn't make sense.
- 28:43And so I talk about the difference between intuition and being able to be aware of
- 28:48emotion, when it's an intuitive hit versus a mind thought.
- 28:55You talk a little bit more about that because I'm I'm intrigued by that.
- 28:58Right?
- 28:59Like,
- 29:00So when we think something might happen, it tends to have a heaviness to it.
- 29:07When it's an intuitive, what I call, hit or intuitive information, it feels uplifting.
- 29:14It generally comes very quickly.
- 29:16And is gone.
- 29:19It's like often like a little tiny whisper.
- 29:22You know what?
- 29:23It's that's so interesting because I know what?
- 29:25I have those, but it's often when I'm very relaxed.
- 29:30I have have them happen.
- 29:33I'll have a narrative in my head.
- 29:35And, I'll give you an example because this now I think about it.
- 29:39Right?
- 29:40You know, our market here in the falls has gone through the real estate market.
- 29:45And I remember I would leave bed and think, oh my goodness, you know, you know, being on my
- 29:49own and starting over, all that stuff.
- 29:51And then this voice would say, well, it's you're gonna be fine because, you know, your
- 29:56home is gonna be worth, you know, whatever the number was.
- 30:02And it's all gonna just happen.
- 30:03And I'd be like, am I making that up?
- 30:07Because I'm thinking I would like it to be like that, but then it would be it would be a kind
- 30:12of a recurring, not obsessive thought, but it would just be kinda it would come in.
- 30:17And then it will go out.
- 30:19And then that being said, 10 years later, guess what?
- 30:24It comes out there,
- 30:25and I was sitting back going, wow, that unfolding, that whatever that you know, what
- 30:32would would do to call it, clear
- 30:36audience?
- 30:37A clear audience when we hear it.
- 30:39When you hear it.
- 30:40I obviously, there was something that that intuitive.
- 30:43And I'm like, wow.
- 30:45Look at what happened around here.
- 30:47So it's interesting.
- 30:48But you could only with those hits, Sylvia, I think, you can only have them when you're
- 30:54completely present, right?
- 30:57Well, when you're present in your body, yeah, when you're grounded, I think you're more like,
- 31:02I think you have them all the time rocks in, I think it's like when you're not grounded and
- 31:08the old radio stations, and yes, I am aging myself, I suppose, in this.
- 31:13With this static, And so you just don't get the signal as clearly.
- 31:18Yeah.
- 31:18Yes.
- 31:19Not as easy to hear it.
- 31:21When you get grounded, there's less interference.
- 31:24And and it's easier to hear it or to listen.
- 31:27So that's 1 of the amazing things.
- 31:29So in the book, you're saying that you teach people how to kind of delineate between when
- 31:35it's a a thought which is more anxiety driven and then what it's just I'm gonna say you
- 31:40listening on a deeper level to really what's in your best interest for your healing.
- 31:44Yes.
- 31:45And it's not just for healing.
- 31:46It's life decisions.
- 31:48And, And sometimes our mind and our desire can take over, and I share an an experience of
- 31:55looking for an office space.
- 31:58And how I had made my checklist of everything I wanted and went to this office and it checked
- 32:04every box off.
- 32:06But there was something about the landlord.
- 32:09It
- 32:09was just something about the landlord.
- 32:11I over read it.
- 32:13I overrode my intuition because my mind was like, no, it's got everything and my excitement
- 32:18took over.
- 32:19Oh, because it's kind of the inspiration.
- 32:23Yeah.
- 32:23Yeah.
- 32:24And I'm sure anybody listening could could really relate to times like that and you go, I
- 32:30should have.
- 32:30I knew it.
- 32:31I knew it.
- 32:32But then again, that's the learnings from going through things like
- 32:35that.
- 32:37Absolutely.
- 32:38And then recognizing your strengths Right?
- 32:42We talk about that a lot.
- 32:44And forgiveness and letting go.
- 32:46And when I'm talking about forgiveness, it feeling the emotions and working through the
- 32:50emotions and then choosing to forgive yourself for any role you played in something.
- 32:55Even though you often didn't play
- 32:57a role in it at all.
- 32:59Of course, right, because those are intense emotions.
- 33:03Obviously wrapped into, you know, thinking back to your your lady that she wasn't even probably
- 33:10aware of the of the heaviness of what she was carrying And then like you said, and I know a
- 33:15lot of the language out there is the core blocking beliefs, but really it is some of the
- 33:19core things that or blocking you, but it's like that like white noise machine that you're
- 33:25you're not attuned to, but it's running your life.
- 33:28Until, like you said, she comes through your door and says, I'm completely well, hopefully
- 33:35not sick, but that's what ends up happening.
- 33:37With people either physically emotionally or, you know, spiritually sick where they they now
- 33:43say I can't I can't do this anymore.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:46I'm exhausted.
- 33:47I'm exhausted.
- 33:48Worn out.
- 33:49I'm tired.
- 33:50I'm frustrated or angry all the time.
- 33:52Whatever it is, It's going to show up, and it's just learning to listen to ourselves.
- 33:59What if we are our own wise 1?
- 34:05I What if we are our own experts?
- 34:08Because all I do is pull the expert out of my clients, whether it in in my office is in a
- 34:14therapy session, whether I'm doing coaches with executives or when I'm on the stage speaking
- 34:19with people, It's about pulling out your own excellence and getting realizing it because
- 34:25it's so easy for us to say, oh, I didn't do this well and I should've done this.
- 34:30Hold it a second.
- 34:31What do you do well?
- 34:32What do you love to do?
- 34:34Yeah.
- 34:34Where do you excel?
- 34:36Over that stuff.
- 34:37Celebrate yourself.
- 34:41And then allow yourself to let go of stuff that's no longer serving you and allow yourself
- 34:46to have that freedom.
- 34:49So for for people that are like senior executives or or I'm gonna use the word kind of
- 34:58driven, right?
- 34:59Mhmm.
- 35:01And they know they know they have to slow down.
- 35:04They know they have to triplet listen.
- 35:09What are some simple simple things that they might start to consider doing?
- 35:14Maybe 1 or 2 things that you think that they could be even start to do and obviously we'll
- 35:20tell them what to get the book, but just before they, you know, just to practice some things
- 35:24that they can do now.
- 35:26Well, I think look at what, like, so to be being driven as a pattern.
- 35:33So what are the wonderful parts of that pattern that are working and what aren't working
- 35:37anymore?
- 35:38Yeah.
- 35:39Right?
- 35:40And even just sometimes just having that awareness and making a choice and just thinking
- 35:45and and as I say go to the universe, say to the universe, I want this.
- 35:50Or I want this instead.
- 35:52So the thought of, okay, I wanna change how driven I am so that I actually have a healthy
- 35:58lunch every day.
- 36:01Alright.
- 36:02Simple as that.
- 36:03Something as simple as that because when we eat, we nurture our bodies.
- 36:07Our bodies are what we have are our vessel for this lifetime.
- 36:12And so we need to honor.
- 36:14We need to respect that vessel.
- 36:16So what are you feeling?
- 36:17Getting in touch with the emotion.
- 36:21Learning, you know, when did I first start this driven pattern?
- 36:25Because yes, there's parts of it that were wonderful, but there are parts of it that are
- 36:30probably wearing you out, that are causing you to do things that you really don't wanna do.
- 36:35I think this is the basis of addiction.
- 36:38And mental health challenges.
- 36:40We do things that are against our values at a core level because we think we have to act in a
- 36:47certain way to have success.
- 36:50Yeah.
- 36:50And and you're using whatever that is to achieve that goal.
- 36:54And I often say, you know, it's the misuse of anything.
- 36:56Right?
- 36:57Could be working.
- 36:58It could be shopping.
- 36:59It could be, you know, eating.
- 37:01Yeah.
- 37:01We need to eat to live, but still it could be, you know, buy, you know, buying the homes, the
- 37:06the the the cars, the all that stuff just to kinda create that illusion so that we hide from
- 37:13what's inside.
- 37:14Right?
- 37:14Right.
- 37:15And at some point, like we said, the the the body's the boss.
- 37:19He just says, it helps you out.
- 37:21And you have to come and talk to somebody like you to start to do the work.
- 37:25Mhmm.
- 37:26Yeah.
- 37:27And we're not that scary.
- 37:28Are we boxing?
- 37:29Well, I don't think you're scary at all.
- 37:34It look just like everybody else.
- 37:36We, you know, uh-uh, it it doesn't matter.
- 37:39So I always say it's whoever you align with, you know, oh, gosh.
- 37:44Yeah.
- 37:44It's so important.
- 37:45And so if you are listening to this, you know, whether it's is a therapist or a coach or
- 37:52somebody that has that ability to create that container that where you kinda You go around
- 37:58them and you go, I can I can just release then that allows your body to intuitively listen to
- 38:05the person that you're in presence with and that allows a space to be able to create the
- 38:10healing?
- 38:11Absolutely.
- 38:12You've got to find the right person.
- 38:13If you have another purse if you go to a person, that you don't have that core safety
- 38:18you're talking about, don't try and force it to work.
- 38:21Find another person.
- 38:23Find your person.
- 38:25Absolutely.
- 38:26So tell us about, you know, what kind
- 38:29of work
- 38:29you're doing and, you know, what kind of spaces you'd like people to reach out to you in, with
- 38:37with the, this amazing new book.
- 38:40So I'm gonna continue to work with people individually and I do that in my office here in
- 38:45Guelph Ontario and also through zoom.
- 38:48And I'm looking to do more speaking because I think at time, we really get a different
- 38:52message in a different way.
- 38:54And I want to teach people from this stage, things that they can take away and do that day.
- 39:01Amazing.
- 39:01So actionable things, actionable things.
- 39:04So the book where can people, get a hold of the book?
- 39:08So the book you can purchase through Amazon, and you can purchase purchase it through 1000
- 39:15trees dot com, which is my editor's website.
- 39:20And, yeah.
- 39:22So that's where it currently is available.
- 39:27So for all of you out there, your executives or your frontline or you're the CEO, maybe you're
- 39:33listening.
- 39:34Right?
- 39:34And you're thinking, wow.
- 39:36How do we support our people?
- 39:40What services do we have?
- 39:42And in our services in your, benefits programs, do you are you aware of the type of support and
- 39:51the support people that work for those benefits providers to give the right support for people.
- 39:58On your teams.
- 39:59And if you don't know, I would suggest you march down to your HR department.
- 40:05To have that conversation because I think we are in a world where we're recognizing after
- 40:10the last couple of years the need to get the right fit for what people are needing.
- 40:15And I loved, I loved what Sylvia said about the fact that we are in fact our own sages for our
- 40:24health, but we have to find the right conduits to help us there.
- 40:29So my hopes is that you've gotten a couple of little tips from Sylvia today.
- 40:33Please, Sylvia, where can they get a hold of you?
- 40:37And, reach out, have a conversation, or have her come out and speak to your team.
- 40:43So my the easiest way is my website, which is, on purpose transformations, dotca.
- 40:51And the links will be in the show notes as well.
- 40:54Again, Sylvia, thanks so much.
- 40:55Always a pleasure talking about healing.
- 40:57I'm gonna go out and walk around the backyard right now for a little bit just to get some
- 41:01energy and for everyone if you're needing more information on authentic leadership, for you,
- 41:09you and your teams, go to roxanderhodge.comforward/quiz do a really quick
- 41:14quiz either on your home relationships or your, work relationships.
- 41:18We'll send you back a little bit of results with some next steps for Okay, Sylvia.
- 41:22Thanks so much, and everyone will chat with you again next week.
- 41:26Take care.
