- 0:02Speaker 1: Home taking an officer's cap as an arrestable offense.
- 0:06Speaker 2: WHOA, what are you gonna do? A buddy, what are
- 0:08Speaker 2: you gonna do?
- 0:09Speaker 3: I'm officer marched, I'm.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Gonna arrest you. WHOA what merge? Not here?
- 0:17Speaker 3: Hey, you're not really arresting me.
- 0:19Speaker 1: You have the right to remain silent.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I choose to wave that right.
- 0:25Speaker 1: WHOA? Whoa four finger discount dude?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Hey everybody, welcome to four figure discount where this week
- 0:42Speaker 3: we're gone all the way back to season six. One
- 0:44Speaker 3: of the better eras of the Simpsons, particularly when you
- 0:47Speaker 3: were viewing season twenty. This one is the Springfield Connection.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I'm Dena and I'm guy. Yes, we have the right
- 0:52Speaker 3: to remain silent. Don't you wish we'd exercise that right?
- 0:54Speaker 4: Uh?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yeah, this is the Springfield connection. The one well, okay,
- 0:58Speaker 3: margin comes a cop pretty much. Yeah, And we discussed
- 1:01Speaker 3: off the air before. There have been many episodes, not
- 1:04Speaker 3: many episodes of guests, but where Marge does something for
- 1:07Speaker 3: herself for a change, So she does the painting and whatnot.
- 1:09Speaker 3: That's not a job, but there is the episode where
- 1:11Speaker 3: Marge gets the job. And because you were saying to
- 1:14Speaker 3: me that you thought this was one of the better
- 1:15Speaker 3: or the best Marge getting a job for a self
- 1:18Speaker 3: kind of episodes Now Got Pretzel Wagon and things like that.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I brought up Marge gets a job where she gets
- 1:24Speaker 3: the job at the Power Plan. That episode was more
- 1:26Speaker 3: based around mister Burns's infatuation for her and she got
- 1:29Speaker 3: that gig not just because he thought she was hot,
- 1:32Speaker 3: because she still did the job really really well, but
- 1:34Speaker 3: he offered her the job because he wanted to get
- 1:36Speaker 3: in their pants. Essentially, this one here was Marge going on,
- 1:39Speaker 3: that's why I got this job exactly. Yeah, and boy
- 1:41Speaker 3: did you earn it and much? And Marge here though,
- 1:45Speaker 3: she sort of decides she sees in herself I can
- 1:48Speaker 3: do this. I'm going to do it, and she does
- 1:50Speaker 3: it well.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's not necessary, not necessarily. Oh, I
- 1:54Speaker 5: want to be a cop. I want to enforce a law.
- 1:55Speaker 5: She discovers that she's okay, that is a part of it.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Will die a little deep into that, but I think
- 2:01Speaker 5: she feels like there's something missing from her life, a
- 2:04Speaker 5: little spark of excitement, wants to feel a bit more
- 2:07Speaker 5: alive again, but also contributes something to the community. And yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 5: being a cop turns out the best way to do that.
- 2:13Speaker 5: It's a storyline that I always like when you discover
- 2:16Speaker 5: something in yourself, or a character discovers there's something in
- 2:18Speaker 5: themselves that's always been there, that's always kind of innate
- 2:21Speaker 5: and just needs to be drawn out, and when they
- 2:23Speaker 5: get the opportunity to do so, they become a slightly
- 2:26Speaker 5: bitter version themselves, or you know, they just they level
- 2:28Speaker 5: up a tiny, tiny bit in their entire life. And yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 5: I mean that's what I took away from this. I
- 2:34Speaker 5: mean it just I wouldn't say it's like, oh, this
- 2:37Speaker 5: is one of the great Simpsons episodes. It's pretty good.
- 2:42Speaker 3: It's got a lot of key moments. It does, and
- 2:44Speaker 3: we said quite a lot of the show. We say that,
- 2:46Speaker 3: oh I forgot this moment was in this episode, and
- 2:48Speaker 3: that kind of thing. It's a fair bit of that.
- 2:50Speaker 5: I won't say that this was like a laugh a minute,
- 2:52Speaker 5: but I felt really really satisfied, yeah, by the end.
- 2:55Speaker 5: And sometimes that's more what you need or sometimes more
- 2:58Speaker 5: what you want.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Well, I'm glad you brought that up with I feel
- 3:00Speaker 3: when we go back to these classic episodes, they either
- 3:02Speaker 3: fall into two different categories, right, Sometimes they sort of
- 3:05Speaker 3: blur the line and go into a bit of both.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But he either get your ones that are heavy on
- 3:10Speaker 3: joke density, so it's joke jo joke joke. There's still
- 3:13Speaker 3: a story there, but it's a lot of wackiness, right,
- 3:16Speaker 3: And then you get ones where they're not as wacky,
- 3:19Speaker 3: they're not as funny. I guess you could say they've
- 3:21Speaker 3: got funny moments and not as funny consistently, but they've
- 3:24Speaker 3: got that emotionally driven episode that's more grounded and relatable
- 3:28Speaker 3: and believable. We sure have talked about that. That's what
- 3:30Speaker 3: this one is. I'm not saying it's not funny or anything.
- 3:32Speaker 3: That's just nowhere near as wacky as say a margin
- 3:34Speaker 3: versus the monorail, all that kind of thing.
- 3:36Speaker 5: And sometimes you know, when you're very, very fortunate, you
- 3:38Speaker 5: get the whole then diagram, when the two things coline,
- 3:40Speaker 5: and you know you've got a nice, big, creamy center.
- 3:42Speaker 5: As I like to say, there's like, ah, this is
- 3:44Speaker 5: really funny, and it's hit me right in the fields. Yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 5: And this is more sort of not necessarily in the fields.
- 3:50Speaker 5: But I've learned a bit more about March. I've come
- 3:53Speaker 5: to know and dare I say love March a bit
- 3:55Speaker 5: more as a result. Yeah, this is that's what I
- 3:58Speaker 5: took away from this and the moments that illustrated that
- 4:01Speaker 5: so so well that I want to talk about in
- 4:03Speaker 5: either of my favorite moments or as.
- 4:04Speaker 3: We go through the episode. I think this episode was
- 4:06Speaker 3: more relatable watching it as an adult, especially a married man,
- 4:10Speaker 3: as well just seeing it from Homer's perspective. I think
- 4:12Speaker 3: when I just watch this as a kid, I didn't
- 4:14Speaker 3: really get the home homage dynamic here of why haven't
- 4:17Speaker 3: didn't want her to be a cop and why the
- 4:19Speaker 3: cops were laughing at her? I thought, why is everyone
- 4:23Speaker 3: sort of laughing at the fact that she's clicked she
- 4:25Speaker 3: could be a cop? Why they laughing at what's the
- 4:26Speaker 3: joke here? As you get older, go oh, they're sexist.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So that kind of thing, right, And that's a theme
- 4:32Speaker 3: of the episode, which we will dive into it until
- 4:33Speaker 3: a minute. But the episode, this story was inspired by
- 4:36Speaker 3: executive producer Mike Reese you know right for the show.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Produced for the show, his wife Denise debated about whether
- 4:41Speaker 3: she wanted to become a cop or not, and that's
- 4:43Speaker 3: something that she decided not to do. But I think
- 4:45Speaker 3: that's why this episode now watching it in twenty twenty five,
- 4:48Speaker 3: it hits me a bit because I have a wife, Nikola,
- 4:51Speaker 3: as we all know, who was once trained to be
- 4:54Speaker 3: a police officer in the UK. She was not a
- 4:56Speaker 3: fully fledged police officer, I know what they call them.
- 4:58Speaker 3: It's almost like a like a probational cops that kind
- 5:01Speaker 3: of thing where she would go on the weekends and
- 5:03Speaker 3: she'd she'd shatter them around and she would she'd have
- 5:05Speaker 3: all the police responsibilities, but she wasn't going out and
- 5:07Speaker 3: the beat by her sub kind of thing. She was there,
- 5:09Speaker 3: and she was on the show britt Cops in the UK.
- 5:12Speaker 3: She was she was going to become a cop. She
- 5:13Speaker 3: was an accountant and she thought accounts is too boring
- 5:15Speaker 3: for me. I need to get it and do something exciting.
- 5:18Speaker 3: And then while she was trained to be a cop,
- 5:20Speaker 3: Nicola came into Australia on her holiday visa legally not
- 5:23Speaker 3: like the ones you see on border security, and she
- 5:26Speaker 3: met me and decided to stay. And then she decided, well,
- 5:29Speaker 3: police work is not going to be from me. She
- 5:31Speaker 3: got an accountcy job. The rest is history. But in
- 5:33Speaker 3: the meantime about I don't know, I want to see
- 5:36Speaker 3: eight years ago. It was just before Alliot was born.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Copies beforehand. Well I remember a Paco fester and the
- 5:41Speaker 3: police force were there and they were handing out paco
- 5:43Speaker 3: fester for all you. Playing at Home is a multicultural
- 5:46Speaker 3: festival we have here in Geelong where all different cultures
- 5:49Speaker 3: they they're just promoting the part of the community, so
- 5:52Speaker 3: like their local clubs or that kind of thing. And
- 5:54Speaker 3: there's a lot of celebration of local food, that kind
- 5:56Speaker 3: of thing, a celebration of local culture. But you also
- 5:58Speaker 3: get things like the police forces down there heading out
- 6:00Speaker 3: saying join the police force. You know, Sam wants you
- 6:02Speaker 3: kind of thing.
- 6:03Speaker 5: We've talked a bit about on various shows about how
- 6:07Speaker 5: Geelong is to have Garlla Day, which was like, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 5: our big day of celebration, Paco Festa on Packington Street.
- 6:13Speaker 5: It's the name has kind of replaced that. Yeah, it's yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 5: a day when almost everyone in Geelong comes out. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 5: it's like lamb cougher, that's delicious, and oh look at
- 6:24Speaker 5: those people dressing in those funny hats something like that. Sorry,
- 6:26Speaker 5: I'm not being disrespectful when I say that, but it's
- 6:29Speaker 5: very So that's what people usually say when you look
- 6:31Speaker 5: at UK police officers.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, people or me wearing my newsboy hat. It's like,
- 6:35Speaker 3: calm down. But so Nicholas saw these police officers and
- 6:39Speaker 3: she was like, maybe I should do it again. And
- 6:40Speaker 3: I remember internally going, I really don't want you to
- 6:44Speaker 3: do this because I know how dangerous it is. And
- 6:46Speaker 3: I know, you know, I've seen this episode. I know
- 6:48Speaker 3: how I'm sure it's different now, but they're still in
- 6:50Speaker 3: twenty twenty five. The mentality of a woman police officer.
- 6:53Speaker 3: There's a gang of guys doing the wrong thing and
- 6:55Speaker 3: they see a female police officer. They're not going to
- 6:57Speaker 3: be as intimidated as a man being there for the
- 6:59Speaker 3: most part. You know. It's just you feel like they will.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Their first reaction will be we can take her on.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I just felt for her safety and I thought I
- 7:06Speaker 3: like this at all. If you've ever met Nickoliy, you
- 7:08Speaker 3: know obviously no one's going to be able to stop
- 7:09Speaker 3: it from doing what she wants to do. She decided
- 7:12Speaker 3: not to do it. She then worked for deaf interpreters,
- 7:15Speaker 3: that kind of thing. She took a different career path.
- 7:17Speaker 3: But I was watching this going I can relate to
- 7:20Speaker 3: Homer's want for Marge not to be but his belief was,
- 7:24Speaker 3: I don't want you to do it because it would
- 7:26Speaker 3: make me the woman of the relationship and you the man.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Like he's seeing it more from a Oh, how's it
- 7:30Speaker 3: going to make me look as opposed to fearing for
- 7:32Speaker 3: her safety? I don't think at any point in this
- 7:33Speaker 3: episode did he really fear for Marge's safety. Oh no,
- 7:36Speaker 3: not at all.
- 7:36Speaker 5: And I think, yeah, that's what sets apart from other
- 7:39Speaker 5: episodes in the Marge gets a job or Marge finds
- 7:43Speaker 5: life outside being a wife and mother. Yeah, sort of subgenre. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 5: making her a cop, making her a figure of authority. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 5: it's gonna be one of those things that sort of
- 7:55Speaker 5: disrupts the stereotype called male female relationship. Yeah, for someone
- 8:00Speaker 5: who is undoubtedly as loving and supportive of his wife
- 8:06Speaker 5: as Homer is at his best. Yeah, I mean, that's
- 8:09Speaker 5: still going to do a bit of a number. And
- 8:10Speaker 5: it's like, well, if someone else is literally wearing the pants,
- 8:15Speaker 5: the blue police officer pants in this case, yeah, Like,
- 8:19Speaker 5: does this disrupt how she feels about me? You know,
- 8:22Speaker 5: is what she does between nine to five, going to
- 8:24Speaker 5: bleed over into the house. How does this affect our relationship?
- 8:27Speaker 3: Well, I think he is somebody who has been for
- 8:29Speaker 3: so long in a relationship where he's the bread winner.
- 8:31Speaker 3: He's when it earns the money, and it's almost like
- 8:34Speaker 3: he has those bragging rights. And with Marge going to work,
- 8:37Speaker 3: I'm not sure what the pay would be any different.
- 8:39Speaker 3: But the thing is, oh, now she's got the tough
- 8:41Speaker 3: guy job. What am I doing here?
- 8:43Speaker 5: It's the economics of it never comes into it.
- 8:46Speaker 3: No, not in necessary anymore. I know they never sort of.
- 8:49Speaker 3: It's not it's not a factor. It's really just it's
- 8:52Speaker 3: a perception. It's a perception.
- 8:54Speaker 5: You know, she's been trained how to bold someone's arm
- 8:57Speaker 5: behind them back and nearly break it and say, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 5: someone's head against the car or someone who has.
- 9:03Speaker 3: A gun on their belt. If they had more time,
- 9:06Speaker 3: I think it would have been good for them to
- 9:09Speaker 3: showcase Homer using Marge being to his advantage a bit more,
- 9:13Speaker 3: because when he parks across those three handicapped spaces hadn't
- 9:17Speaker 3: really built up to that moment yet. I know he
- 9:19Speaker 3: was doing the card game. In years, they've already had
- 9:23Speaker 3: round one of the poker the poker game, yes, but
- 9:25Speaker 3: it wasn't like he was using it he pointed out
- 9:28Speaker 3: the perks in that scene. Oh yeah, I've got the
- 9:31Speaker 3: the they scanner, that kind of thing. But there was
- 9:33Speaker 3: no sort of build up too, Marge going that's it
- 9:34Speaker 3: had enough of you that moment there. To me, I
- 9:36Speaker 3: don't think Marge wanted to shouldn't look, shouldn't sort of
- 9:40Speaker 3: go home, I'm going to give you the tickets you're
- 9:42Speaker 3: home and you've pissed me off? Or no, no, no,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I think she even wanted to give them the ticket.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But what happened was he in that situation, he challenged
- 9:49Speaker 3: her authority in a public space. He disrespected her authorities. Yeah, authority, Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 3: he disrespected her. So she had no choice in that situation,
- 9:58Speaker 3: even because because to me, A, she couldn't be seen
- 10:01Speaker 3: to giving her husband preferential treatment, and B you can't
- 10:05Speaker 3: have anybody seeing a cop like this in public because
- 10:08Speaker 3: you're just set in the president of Well, he can
- 10:09Speaker 3: get away with it, why can't I.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not going to be I'm not an all
- 10:13Speaker 5: cops of buses the kind of guy by any means,
- 10:15Speaker 5: but you know, you can't disrespect the badge. Nor am
- 10:18Speaker 5: I a coppaganda guy. But yeah, you can't disrespect the
- 10:20Speaker 5: badge in that regard, and it's it's disrespectful to his
- 10:24Speaker 5: wife and it's disrespectful to an officer of the law.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Can't do either, shouldn't do either. Let's be honest, if
- 10:30Speaker 3: we had his spouse or a friend who was a
- 10:32Speaker 3: copy of courtis doing something like this, you would be lying,
- 10:35Speaker 3: he said. You wouldn't expect them to give you some
- 10:37Speaker 3: sort of preferential treatment, not even not giving not that
- 10:39Speaker 3: they let you do continue doing noting wrong, but to
- 10:43Speaker 3: just say, look, here's your warning, don't do it again.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I'm not going to find you.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I think if you know, if you're halfway sensitive and
- 10:51Speaker 5: respectful partner to your partner, you wouldn't. Okay, they exaggerated
- 10:56Speaker 5: for comic effect here. The half part was that. The
- 10:58Speaker 5: half part was, of course, that the kick. Yeah, so
- 11:01Speaker 5: you're on your way home. Ah, Lou asked me to
- 11:03Speaker 5: get milk.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I forgot.
- 11:04Speaker 5: You're pulling too, the seven eleven quickie mart whatever. Ah,
- 11:07Speaker 5: they're all taken except for the handicap back.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I don't show any handicap people around here. You zip in,
- 11:12Speaker 3: I forget to donutes.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Yeah, if you're busted, If Lou bust me doing that, I'm.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Getting the milk for you. Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I wouldn't expect it to give me a ticket.
- 11:24Speaker 5: But at the same time, you know, you'd be kind
- 11:26Speaker 5: of like, sorry, I'm not explaining myself. Very weird, but
- 11:29Speaker 5: it's like, you should respect your partner enough and respect
- 11:32Speaker 5: what they're doing enough. It's like, I'm going to have
- 11:34Speaker 5: to lift my game here because you know, if I'm
- 11:36Speaker 5: going to be a supportive partner, I've got to follow
- 11:39Speaker 5: the law that they're upholding. You still, respect starts at home.
- 11:46Speaker 5: But yeah, he challenged her authority there, and not just
- 11:49Speaker 5: for the sake of her perception in the way she's
- 11:51Speaker 5: proceeded in a community, just a police force in general.
- 11:53Speaker 3: She had to give him the ticket, Oh my god. Yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 3: yeh yeah. Yeah. The fact that he feels bold enough
- 11:59Speaker 3: to do that because it's his missus. Yeah, he insulting.
- 12:03Speaker 3: It adds insult to injury. He never really took her
- 12:06Speaker 3: seriously as a cop until the end.
- 12:08Speaker 5: No, no, and I'm yeah, I'm not going to push
- 12:11Speaker 5: back against what you're saying. I'm going to disagree in
- 12:13Speaker 5: terms of I think what they did with the poker
- 12:16Speaker 5: table thing, the initial one where he's sort of saying,
- 12:18Speaker 5: being a carp husband's great, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I think that's all you needed in the space of
- 12:24Speaker 5: a twenty minute something episode.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Brevity is the soul.
- 12:27Speaker 5: It's I think you can twig that's like homes taking
- 12:30Speaker 5: advantage of this. And also like he's not saying at all, Wow,
- 12:34Speaker 5: she's great at a job, or like wow, yeah, good
- 12:36Speaker 5: on her, but it's like, no, I'm really happy for Marge.
- 12:38Speaker 5: But you know what, you know, what else is great
- 12:40Speaker 5: is this and this and this. Now he's just like,
- 12:42Speaker 5: what can I get out of this? Or what am
- 12:43Speaker 5: I getting out of this?
- 12:44Speaker 3: It's like when you mate works at KFC, I get
- 12:46Speaker 3: so much free chicken. Did you ever work at a
- 12:50Speaker 3: fast Forward Fast? I never did. No. Do you have
- 12:53Speaker 3: friends who worked there?
- 12:55Speaker 5: My young nephews and nieces worked there. They worked at
- 12:59Speaker 5: macis one on the on the corner of Shannon and Autumn.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Oh, okay, they bring you some apple paths?
- 13:05Speaker 5: Uh No, I never did, no, No, I never abused
- 13:07Speaker 5: the relationship with the.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Oh all those apple paths. Yes, But this episode here
- 13:15Speaker 3: focuses a lot on the everyday setbacks that women face.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Not only in the workforce, but just day to day
- 13:21Speaker 3: life and the perception that it's the old woman doing
- 13:24Speaker 3: a man's job. Right, so woman being a police officer,
- 13:27Speaker 3: and examples in this episode, we get the men the
- 13:29Speaker 3: cops initially laughing at Marge before they say welcome aboard.
- 13:32Speaker 3: We get Homer thinking it makes him the woman of
- 13:34Speaker 3: the relationship. Homer thinking that Marje needed saving from Snake
- 13:38Speaker 3: at the start, things like that, it's always the damseland distress,
- 13:41Speaker 3: you know, woman doing a man's job. So and still
- 13:44Speaker 3: to this day, it's obviously we've said this before. We
- 13:47Speaker 3: always think that we're the most progressive, and we probably
- 13:49Speaker 3: are the most progressive in this current time compared to
- 13:51Speaker 3: the past. But it will only improve. Right now, it's
- 13:54Speaker 3: still not where it needs to be. It's a lot
- 13:55Speaker 3: better than where it needs to be. But still you
- 13:56Speaker 3: still get to this day, let a woman do a
- 13:59Speaker 3: man's job. He still here guy saying that tongue in cheek,
- 14:01Speaker 3: but it's still being said.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Well, yeah, it's an actual joke. From this it was
- 14:04Speaker 5: like it's been repurposes of meme all that time. I mean,
- 14:06Speaker 5: the main one I see is like when it's climate change,
- 14:08Speaker 5: like this is the hottest summer in my life. There's
- 14:10Speaker 5: the hottest summer in your life so far? Yeahah, so yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 5: we're the most progressive society so far.
- 14:15Speaker 3: The Simpsons coined the so far gag because it's from
- 14:17Speaker 3: the Simpsons movie when ago. Yes, this is the most
- 14:20Speaker 3: miserable day of my life he is far.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it feels like such a good joke that you
- 14:25Speaker 5: feel like someone's got to use that before. Not this
- 14:27Speaker 5: in the Simpsons or anything like that, but it feels
- 14:28Speaker 5: like that's a joke that's been around for a while. Yeah, okay,
- 14:31Speaker 5: but maybe well the.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Simpsons movie has been around for a while, so yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 3: it's been out. She does in the case they're crazy
- 14:37Speaker 3: right years ago.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Yeah, Marge is clearly good at well, she's great at it. Well,
- 14:42Speaker 5: she has both the willingness and the ability. I mean
- 14:44Speaker 5: she's yeah, how much of that is like wow, sort
- 14:48Speaker 5: of in built. I mean, she's really quite keen to
- 14:51Speaker 5: go after Snake after he's pulling the three card Monty tricks.
- 14:53Speaker 5: She's always been in shape, hasn't she, Marge. Yeah, it's one,
- 14:55Speaker 5: but it is one of my favorite bits. Shout out
- 14:58Speaker 5: to Julie Cabnet. This is great voice work. I really
- 15:01Speaker 5: love what she.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Did in this episode. Any particular moments just when yeah,
- 15:04Speaker 3: when when yeah snake sort of and she's like he's
- 15:10Speaker 3: getting away, someone do something, Yeah, and she's like running
- 15:13Speaker 3: out to get here.
- 15:15Speaker 5: I thought that was marvelous. And yeah, Julie had a
- 15:18Speaker 5: lot of that stuff all through the episode. But yeah,
- 15:20Speaker 5: so that's it's clearly in her to chase the rush,
- 15:24Speaker 5: shall we say, but when you know it comes down
- 15:27Speaker 5: to actually training to do the job and do the job, yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 5: she's all for it.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Admittally they throw a gag. It's like women, I always
- 15:34Speaker 3: have trouble with the wall. There's a door right there,
- 15:35Speaker 3: which apparently is an officer and a gentleman. That's an
- 15:37Speaker 3: officer and gentleman thing. Yeah. Yeah, we've talked about that
- 15:40Speaker 3: movie a couple of times recently. Yeah, yeah, but I
- 15:43Speaker 3: don't I haven't seen the actual movie. I've seen the
- 15:45Speaker 3: ending and things like that. But so apparently there's a
- 15:47Speaker 3: scene where she has trouble getting over the walls. There's
- 15:49Speaker 3: a door or something there is she says, trouble getting
- 15:52Speaker 3: there is no the door is a gag.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, yeah, but an officer and gentlemen.
- 15:56Speaker 3: They're going through basic training. She've got to get over
- 15:59Speaker 3: a wall.
- 15:59Speaker 5: There's it's mostly dudes, but there's a young young woman
- 16:02Speaker 5: who's also training to be a naval aviator. And it's
- 16:06Speaker 5: not really a spoiler, but she has trouble getting over
- 16:08Speaker 5: the wall. Richard Gear's character is kind of like a
- 16:10Speaker 5: surly learners, like.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm really good at this, but I'm not helping
- 16:13Speaker 3: nobody out. I'm for me man.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Then he goes and helps her because he's a good dude.
- 16:17Speaker 3: And then he takes it a bed because he's Richard. No,
- 16:22Speaker 3: not true with a whatever they called. I just say
- 16:30Speaker 3: every time I say you face case, I got to
- 16:33Speaker 3: de boat this ship again. Am I fucking myth Busters?
- 16:36Speaker 3: But apparently I've told you how Sylvester Saloon apparently started
- 16:39Speaker 3: that roomor hilarious. Apparently the original design for Marge's police
- 16:42Speaker 3: uniform to had Marge's hair standing up and the hat
- 16:46Speaker 3: on top on top, yeah, as it normally would be.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Director David Mark Kirkland found that it made it look
- 16:51Speaker 3: awkward for well, didn't make it look awkward, it was
- 16:53Speaker 3: just awkward for staging because he was directing his like,
- 16:55Speaker 3: we can't fit her in the frame, that kind of thing,
- 16:56Speaker 3: because the gag is the hat would be on top,
- 16:58Speaker 3: so you'd always have to see the top of her head.
- 17:00Speaker 5: It would have been Yeah, and there's a saying in comedy,
- 17:03Speaker 5: you're putting putting a hat on a hat. Yeah, you
- 17:05Speaker 5: know what that means. Yeah, it's like, yeah, this GAG's
- 17:07Speaker 5: already good. You don't need to add that to it.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Sims does a lot in twenty of The Simpsons.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Yeah, but they would have literally been putting a hat
- 17:14Speaker 5: on a hat.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, so the alter the design to have her
- 17:17Speaker 3: hair pulled down. David Murkan, who was the was he
- 17:20Speaker 3: he was the chowrun at the time, but yeah. He
- 17:22Speaker 3: later stated that if they went with a design of
- 17:25Speaker 3: the hat on top, he would have asked him to
- 17:27Speaker 3: change it because he was trying to depict Marge as
- 17:29Speaker 3: a serious cop and just seeing her with the hat
- 17:31Speaker 3: on top, you couldn't take her seriously. It'd be too
- 17:33Speaker 3: cartoony in comic and comedy.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Absolutely, Yeah, right, Like I said, hat on a hat,
- 17:37Speaker 5: and let's not forget Marge looks kind of hot in
- 17:41Speaker 5: a hard rock cafe.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Sure, well, that too, still got the idea. It is
- 17:47Speaker 3: official we have finally launched Bob's Pods, a Bob's Burger's podcast,
- 17:52Speaker 3: reviewing every episode of the series exclusively on our Patreon.
- 17:55Speaker 3: We dissect the relationships, the themes, the burger specials, and
- 17:59Speaker 3: everything else that goes into making Bob's Burgers one of
- 18:01Speaker 3: the most love animated series today. So if you want
- 18:04Speaker 3: to sink your teeth into one of the tastiest podcasts
- 18:06Speaker 3: going around, join the four Finger discat Family Today at
- 18:09Speaker 3: patreon dot com slash four finger Discount. Now the idea
- 18:14Speaker 3: for the counterfeit Jeans ring. I was going to say,
- 18:16Speaker 3: speaking of the jeans, a very blue episode. So it's
- 18:20Speaker 3: the cops, you know, Margins. The jeans are all blue.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Hill Street Blues. It's just blues everywhere. A bit of
- 18:27Speaker 3: a stretch from that final one, but I get where
- 18:29Speaker 3: you come away.
- 18:29Speaker 2: It's that's true.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Yeah, they are apploying the a variation on the Hill
- 18:33Speaker 5: Street Blues theme, one of the great TV themes, by
- 18:36Speaker 5: the way, Yeah, all throughout the episode. I mentioned this
- 18:39Speaker 5: before we started talking, and then I said, seve it
- 18:41Speaker 5: for the shoe.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Shut up, Gaye, it's yes.
- 18:45Speaker 5: You one thing I really enjoyed in this and I'm sorry,
- 18:48Speaker 5: maybe stepping on favorite moments, but I think it's it's
- 18:50Speaker 5: indicative of just the quality of the show around this
- 18:54Speaker 5: period when Marge is going through a basic training becoming
- 18:58Speaker 5: a cop, and they've done like a hero theme version
- 19:03Speaker 5: of the Simpsons theme, which is, you know, kind of
- 19:05Speaker 5: like Iconic has rocked the off the circus music and
- 19:08Speaker 5: Danny Elfman stuff, but giving in that kind of.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I don't know, action sequence.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like a like it's in Speed or in
- 19:16Speaker 5: conn Air or something.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Apparently the references there were Speed going over the Highway game.
- 19:21Speaker 3: That's definitely in there. Bullet or something.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Bullet, just the Steve McQueen movie Bullet, which has one
- 19:26Speaker 5: of the most famous car chases in cinema history.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yeah, fantastic movie Bullet. As as as the police and
- 19:32Speaker 3: the police are Blues brothers speaking of Blue. Oh that's right.
- 19:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it's got it's got a lot of cop stuff
- 19:38Speaker 5: in there. Okay, but yeah, I just thought the music. Yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 5: I think the music was fantastic in that regard, and
- 19:44Speaker 5: it's not done over the top. It's just done kind
- 19:46Speaker 5: of subtly, And it feels like, because I've seen enough
- 19:49Speaker 5: of these eighties and nineties action movies, cop movies, basic
- 19:53Speaker 5: training movies, and there's always kind of an inspirational thing
- 19:56Speaker 5: behind that. Gonna now they're doing better. Yeah, it's like
- 20:00Speaker 5: to weave the Simpsons music into that great work. I mean,
- 20:04Speaker 5: I'm gonna, you know, it's out of clause and I think,
- 20:06Speaker 5: who's going to be responsible for that?
- 20:08Speaker 3: What a lord? And it's not just that, it is
- 20:10Speaker 3: the way they have the Hill Street Blues version of
- 20:13Speaker 3: the theme song at the end as well. Sure you
- 20:14Speaker 3: had the Hill Street Blues music sort of playing when
- 20:16Speaker 3: she's just on the beat in junktown or junk field,
- 20:19Speaker 3: whatever it is. Want to talk about that because there's
- 20:20Speaker 3: a mistake. Yeah it really was. Yeah, yes, yeah, But
- 20:23Speaker 3: I just love it when they get the themes and
- 20:26Speaker 3: they put a twist on it. They do it with
- 20:27Speaker 3: Bart versus Australia was another one at the end, because
- 20:30Speaker 3: it makes the episode feel unique and special. It does
- 20:33Speaker 3: because it's just this is an episode that is Marge
- 20:36Speaker 3: as a cop, so they really make it feel like
- 20:38Speaker 3: you're watching a police drummer from the eighties. Yeah, that's
- 20:41Speaker 3: the end.
- 20:42Speaker 5: I don't know if it's a deviation from canon or
- 20:44Speaker 5: anything like that. I mean I'm but it's like, oh, well, yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 5: I mean, because Home has been through so many queers, like,
- 20:50Speaker 5: how's he still working on the nuclear power playfell Yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I guess if you were writing, like a definitive this
- 20:56Speaker 5: is everything that happened in the Simpsons, you would have it.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Or you're writing, say, Marge since Wikipedia page like and
- 21:02Speaker 5: there was also a brief period where Marge worked as
- 21:03Speaker 5: a cop. You're not going to say, oh, that never happened,
- 21:05Speaker 5: or that's an alternative reality or something like that.
- 21:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:08Speaker 5: It ties getting back to what I was saying, it
- 21:12Speaker 5: having that variation on the Simpsons theme makes it part
- 21:15Speaker 5: of the larger Simpsons universe, larger Simpsons story. It's all
- 21:19Speaker 5: part of the one big thing.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Well, the whole episode is a tribute to these eighties
- 21:23Speaker 3: police dramas, so just doing that just adds to the
- 21:26Speaker 3: vibe of it.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Just absolutely Look, they're definitely referencing Hill Street Blues, as
- 21:29Speaker 5: you say by the music. There was a show called
- 21:32Speaker 5: Cagney Lacey, which was kind of grand breaking, I guess
- 21:34Speaker 5: in its way. I mean, prior to that, in the seventies,
- 21:37Speaker 5: it was a show called Police Woman with Angie Dickinson.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Gone police squad. No relation, but Cagney Lacey was two
- 21:45Speaker 3: female cops who were not just you know, busting crimson
- 21:48Speaker 3: solving crimes. They were also dealing with like sexism in
- 21:50Speaker 3: the in the police force. You know.
- 21:53Speaker 5: One of them had like a stay at home husband
- 21:55Speaker 5: or husband who was not necessarily beata mail as a
- 21:59Speaker 5: result by his wife being this cop. But it's kind
- 22:01Speaker 5: of like occasionally when I going to make lunch for
- 22:04Speaker 5: the kids. Again, Yeah, he didn't do it all that often.
- 22:06Speaker 5: I maybe he did. I didn't watch all that, but
- 22:10Speaker 5: so the episodes that I saw certainly tackled those themes.
- 22:12Speaker 5: And yeah, yeah, I think it's nice that in the
- 22:15Speaker 5: space the relatively short duration of this episode they cover.
- 22:20Speaker 3: All those things. And I wouldn't say cover them in depth,
- 22:22Speaker 3: but they give them just enough of a not and
- 22:24Speaker 3: just enough attentions like, oh well, yeah, it means that,
- 22:27Speaker 3: oh I'm feeling this as a result, there's a good episode,
- 22:30Speaker 3: really well put together. It is, indeed. Yeah, And I
- 22:32Speaker 3: was mentioning earlier the Canterfeit Jean's story. Sorry that was
- 22:35Speaker 3: pitched at because at the time there had been an
- 22:38Speaker 3: explosion in the jeans market. I don't have any recollection
- 22:41Speaker 3: of this, But apparently in the mid nineties jeans were
- 22:43Speaker 3: a big deal. Maybe Jenny Jerry Seinfeld brought that out,
- 22:45Speaker 3: who knows, and David Merkan thought it was the right
- 22:47Speaker 3: time to technicky out of it. It feels weird that
- 22:52Speaker 3: when did this episode in ninety five, I've always thought
- 22:55Speaker 3: what a random fucking crime syndicate it is, because to
- 22:59Speaker 3: have Herman do it as well, it's not like they
- 23:01Speaker 3: even have a regular Herman. Why is Herman in the
- 23:04Speaker 3: card game in the first Why would even invite him over?
- 23:07Speaker 3: It's just so weird, and he's just got that kind
- 23:09Speaker 3: of very suspicious vice. I would buy into Herman being
- 23:14Speaker 3: the guy that would do this, but it just feels
- 23:16Speaker 3: so out of left field. I saying it was a
- 23:19Speaker 3: very good episode, that does feel like a little bit
- 23:21Speaker 3: of a stretch to go, like we've got to fit
- 23:22Speaker 3: all this in. Yeah, so, yeah, that's a bit of
- 23:25Speaker 3: a it's a bit much.
- 23:26Speaker 5: But the whole counterfeite blue jeans thing, I mean, you
- 23:29Speaker 5: tend to think of one thing I think of when
- 23:32Speaker 5: I think of counterfor jeans or even like the jeans
- 23:34Speaker 5: black market is you know, when communism was really big
- 23:37Speaker 5: in like the eighties. But you know, people in like
- 23:41Speaker 5: the Soviet Union or in East Germany or whatever, it's
- 23:44Speaker 5: kind of like, oh no, we have to keep wearing dungleries.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Oh I wish I could wear Libo stirrels. You've got
- 23:52Speaker 3: some crafty guy who's like, here you go.
- 23:55Speaker 5: You know, I bought a dozen pair, you know, through
- 23:58Speaker 5: my cousin Dimitri and the States, and I'm bringing back
- 24:00Speaker 5: and I'm just selling for like a five hundre percent markup.
- 24:03Speaker 3: We used to see this shit all the time at
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Sunday Market in July. Oh yeah, it's just the guy,
- 24:07Speaker 3: same guy. Remember I remember it's a data data jack.
- 24:11Speaker 3: It's what alig kind of thing, I'll say. And I
- 24:14Speaker 3: got one from the Sunday Market. I knew it wasn't real,
- 24:16Speaker 3: but I looked fine kids school board. It cost MO
- 24:18Speaker 3: twenty bucks instead of a hundred bucks. Old happy, Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I find yeah, dupes and knockoffs really fast. I mean,
- 24:26Speaker 3: apparently I don't know what the kids are into these days,
- 24:28Speaker 3: but apparently dupes are like a big deal. Like, why
- 24:31Speaker 3: am I paying eighty bucks for this fragrance from Nateen
- 24:34Speaker 3: nineteen ten? Why am I paying?
- 24:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm probably underselling it. Why am I paying eighty
- 24:41Speaker 5: bucks for the small bottle of Calvin Klein fragrance when
- 24:44Speaker 5: for twenty dollars I can get Kelvin nine that smells
- 24:48Speaker 5: exactly the same.
- 24:49Speaker 3: You know, it's it's not that difficult.
- 24:51Speaker 5: And you know what, is someone going to really come
- 24:53Speaker 5: up and slip my hanger. That's a dupe, that's a
- 24:56Speaker 5: but even if they.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Are, they go, well, good financial management on my part.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Fuck you, I was telling you when I got the
- 25:01Speaker 3: lego recently, that's right, lepend. I think it's called the
- 25:04Speaker 3: Chinese Lego, and I've got the Millennium falcon one. So
- 25:07Speaker 3: I had this years ago and I didn't quite parts
- 25:11Speaker 3: were missing and things. As I was building up parts
- 25:13Speaker 3: we got knocked off the table and I sort of
- 25:14Speaker 3: had to couple it together at the end it didn't
- 25:16Speaker 3: quite look exactly right. Nicko ended up smashing it by
- 25:18Speaker 3: act and she knocked it over by accident. So I
- 25:23Speaker 3: bought a new one, right one hundred and fifteen bucks.
- 25:24Speaker 3: It costs like twelve hundred bucks brand new. No one
- 25:27Speaker 3: would know any different when it's up on the shelf.
- 25:28Speaker 3: But I've got that one friend that's like, it's not
- 25:30Speaker 3: real lego, mate, You do realize they make this in
- 25:32Speaker 3: the same factory. All comes from China.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Daniel and I have been speaking recently. Well, when I
- 25:40Speaker 5: say recently, I mean yesterday setting up new channels gool
- 25:45Speaker 5: Shit's fuck Mate, where it's like, oh, everything's just going wrong,
- 25:48Speaker 5: going off the rails.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Some of the podcasts will or YouTube. I'll listen to
- 25:53Speaker 3: or watch.
- 25:54Speaker 5: Something a lot of them bring up is like, stop
- 25:56Speaker 5: spending money on expensive sunglasses. They make ray bands and
- 25:59Speaker 5: the ones you get from the seven to eleven at
- 26:01Speaker 5: the same place.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I knew, but.
- 26:06Speaker 5: I will never stop. I will never stop buying expensive
- 26:09Speaker 5: sung Everyone's got their blinds, but that's mine.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Just Yeah, I've been raised is not worried about what
- 26:17Speaker 3: the tag says. Yeah. As a kid, though, it was
- 26:20Speaker 3: it had to be a particular brand, you know, Quicksilver.
- 26:22Speaker 3: If I was wearing board shows, you had to have
- 26:24Speaker 3: Quicksilver rip Kil it was a local company. I'm very much.
- 26:26Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I'm a complete brand whur. Yeah, I try
- 26:29Speaker 3: to be north Face. That's where every Jackie you have
- 26:33Speaker 3: is a north Face. That's like your new thing. Now
- 26:35Speaker 3: I see everyone wearing north Face and I'm like, what
- 26:37Speaker 3: the hell is the north Face. I'm so old I
- 26:40Speaker 3: over know what it is. But I see everyone wearing it,
- 26:42Speaker 3: Like the name make good out doors you wear? Is
- 26:44Speaker 3: that what it is? Outdoors you wear? See kids wearing it?
- 26:46Speaker 3: I see greens. I'm like, what the hell is this
- 26:48Speaker 3: north Face? Where did it come from? I always made
- 26:50Speaker 3: on special? Triggers me the fact does your back have
- 26:54Speaker 3: the logo as well? It does? Why why is it
- 26:57Speaker 3: on the back? It just it upsets me because it.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Doesn't I think I have. I think I'm like it
- 27:01Speaker 5: might be on one of the sleeves as well.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Because it's not in a proper like. It's not. It's
- 27:05Speaker 3: the back design. It's like a pockets on the back.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It triggers me. Hate it. It just means if you know,
- 27:10Speaker 3: you know, I was just to go in case you
- 27:14Speaker 3: can't see the front. Yes, I am wearing the north Face,
- 27:16Speaker 3: just in case you were wondering. Okay, well this is
- 27:22Speaker 3: I saw it. I didn't even realize your worrying. I go, oh,
- 27:24Speaker 3: wait a minute's so north Face. Everyone's wearing this ship Now.
- 27:27Speaker 5: I'm not necessarily like north Face pilled or it, but
- 27:29Speaker 5: I mean I can't because I've got a few items.
- 27:31Speaker 3: But it used to be country Road.
- 27:32Speaker 5: I've still got a fair bit of that ship they can.
- 27:35Speaker 5: But at the same time, I like to think I'm
- 27:36Speaker 5: saving enough. Oh the new catalog's out, O time to get,
- 27:39Speaker 5: you know, a whole new wardrobe or whatever. It's like
- 27:41Speaker 5: you catalogy me this is this is going to be
- 27:44Speaker 5: on special in like two months, you know, and they're
- 27:47Speaker 5: going to have the whatever sales. And that's if I
- 27:49Speaker 5: like it, I'll get it. But I've also reached the
- 27:51Speaker 5: stage in my life where it's like I basically wear six.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Things I my wardrobe. I don't know about you guys
- 27:56Speaker 3: right at home, but tell me if you're the especially
- 28:01Speaker 3: when you got kids, I wear I swear the same
- 28:03Speaker 3: five shirts and three pairs of shorts and two bears
- 28:05Speaker 3: of pants all the time. Right I wear them. They
- 28:08Speaker 3: go in the wash pile, They go in the wash,
- 28:09Speaker 3: they get folded, put onto the couch, and I just
- 28:11Speaker 3: grab my clothes from there. My wardrobe is filled with
- 28:13Speaker 3: clothes that never even get looked at. Oh yeah, it's
- 28:15Speaker 3: just they just sit there, folded. It's full of clothes
- 28:19Speaker 3: that never get warm because I just wear the same
- 28:20Speaker 3: shit over and over again. Is that how it works
- 28:23Speaker 3: now pretty much. You just need your wardrobe is full
- 28:26Speaker 3: of clothes that you don't wear anymore, and the clothes
- 28:28Speaker 3: that you do wear just pile up on the floor
- 28:30Speaker 3: like you fold them, put them on your end of
- 28:31Speaker 3: your bed. He just grab them from there. You put it,
- 28:32Speaker 3: even put them away. Oh yeah, that's that's very much. Okay, Yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 3: I know I was the only one. I said to
- 28:37Speaker 3: Nicol the other day, what do I even have all these clothes?
- 28:39Speaker 3: I literally wear the same five fucking shirts every week.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I don't know what to say. Say.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Look, it took me a long time to learn that.
- 28:45Speaker 5: I mean I probably knew it, yeah, innately, but you know,
- 28:49Speaker 5: I look back throughout, say my forties. Yeah, it's like
- 28:52Speaker 5: I bought so I buught so many clothes and like, yeah,
- 28:55Speaker 5: there might have been some shirts in there that I
- 28:56Speaker 5: wore maybe once or twice. There's various reasons for it,
- 29:00Speaker 5: like that looks really good and I'll look great in
- 29:02Speaker 5: it once I lose ten kilos. It's the goal ship
- 29:06Speaker 5: aspiration shirt. I was going through this the other night,
- 29:09Speaker 5: and I was going to this event. It's like it
- 29:10Speaker 5: was the jacket and tie kind of deal. I was
- 29:12Speaker 5: trying on various jackets, and there was one board thinking
- 29:15Speaker 5: this is going to be me, This is going to
- 29:17Speaker 5: be like, yeah, oh guys wearing his good jacket a word.
- 29:19Speaker 3: But on Twitter it's like this is not mean or
- 29:22Speaker 3: why did I buy this? Yeah? For me, though, I struggle.
- 29:25Speaker 3: I always keep going to the wardrobe, going and going
- 29:27Speaker 3: clear this stuff. I'm going to go through what I'm
- 29:28Speaker 3: not going to wear any more, get rid of it, right.
- 29:30Speaker 3: I struggle to get rid of clothes because I have
- 29:32Speaker 3: the idea of mind, what if I want to wear
- 29:34Speaker 3: it one day? Oh yeah, I haven't worn it for
- 29:36Speaker 3: five plus years. Correct, I didn't even know I still
- 29:39Speaker 3: had it. But I can't part with it because I
- 29:41Speaker 3: might want to wear it one day. Correct? What the
- 29:44Speaker 3: hell is wrong with me? It's not just you, it's
- 29:46Speaker 3: not just here, it's everyone, all right? How do we
- 29:50Speaker 3: get to talking about that? Other jeans? The gens Apparently
- 29:53Speaker 3: jeans fad was a big thing. The ninety five that's
- 29:55Speaker 3: the other thing. And then god knows how many pairs
- 29:57Speaker 3: of jeans I've got. I've got two, No, I have many, Okay.
- 30:02Speaker 3: I also found an interest in that for an episode
- 30:04Speaker 3: that used the shortened intro, which means I'm running long time.
- 30:07Speaker 3: They spent almost an entire minute. Think it's about forty
- 30:10Speaker 3: seven seconds or so, about fifty seconds on just extended
- 30:12Speaker 3: laughs if you include the initial cop laugh, Homer's obnoxious
- 30:15Speaker 3: laugh of Flanders, and the final laugh, almost a minute
- 30:18Speaker 3: of just obnoxious laughing. I guess you could say the
- 30:21Speaker 3: cop ones at least they have a payoff. Homers one
- 30:24Speaker 3: sort of goes on a little bit too long, but
- 30:25Speaker 3: I guess it's trying to expersize how much a jerky is. Yes,
- 30:28Speaker 3: the cop one was I guess used effectively in the
- 30:29Speaker 3: first one goes for fifteen seconds and the second one
- 30:31Speaker 3: ten seconds. This is just the film ned coming out
- 30:34Speaker 3: of me. But I like to think that the second
- 30:35Speaker 3: one was shorter because they had a bit more respectful
- 30:37Speaker 3: and they went, what are we laughing for? And they stopped.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Homer's lae goes for twenty two seconds. That sounds like
- 30:42Speaker 3: a long time. It really is. Man, Well let's just
- 30:45Speaker 3: sit here in silence for twenty two seconds.
- 30:46Speaker 5: No, let's not do it. Yeah, I'm going of course,
- 30:51Speaker 5: the cop laughs are for comic effects.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 5: I was like, oh, well, yeah, they're laughing at the
- 30:56Speaker 5: idea of Marge becoming a cop or whatever. I don't
- 30:58Speaker 5: think it's they're laughing do of anyone becoming a cop?
- 31:01Speaker 3: Really, but about it, it's like, I think it's meant
- 31:04Speaker 3: to be or an initiation ritual, even because you know,
- 31:08Speaker 3: the minute they like you stop laughing, it's like, oh,
- 31:10Speaker 3: well come on, come on in here now, now you're
- 31:12Speaker 3: a cup. It changes the whole perspective of that scene
- 31:15Speaker 3: if you look at it as if to say, you're
- 31:16Speaker 3: laughing because why would you want to be a cop,
- 31:18Speaker 3: as opposed to oh, you're a woman who thinks he
- 31:19Speaker 3: can be a cop. I think they're going for the
- 31:20Speaker 3: woman angled, but you can see it your way as well.
- 31:22Speaker 5: There's also that thing about you know, you've heard about
- 31:24Speaker 5: initiation rituals into games where it's like, okay, well you
- 31:27Speaker 5: get beaten up to get and you get beaten up
- 31:28Speaker 5: on the way haddle of the swollen ass or with
- 31:31Speaker 5: biker gangs or street gangs or whatever, it's like, well
- 31:35Speaker 5: that's your initiation ritual. We laugh at you, and then
- 31:37Speaker 5: you're in. Now we laugh at you for whatever. It's like,
- 31:40Speaker 5: now you're out. But yeah, you're right, a lot of
- 31:42Speaker 5: prolonged laughter in there, and you would think, oh, well,
- 31:45Speaker 5: that's normally indicates spiller. But as you said, shorter introductory period,
- 31:49Speaker 5: shorter credit sequence, why is.
- 31:51Speaker 3: That the case? I don't know.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you raised an interesting point about, you know,
- 31:56Speaker 5: Homer's long laugh and the prank that he plays on
- 32:00Speaker 5: on Flanders.
- 32:01Speaker 3: That was for me the one moment where I went,
- 32:03Speaker 3: I I'm all for pranks, but this one just felt
- 32:06Speaker 3: like they were really doubling down on home of being
- 32:08Speaker 3: an asshole.
- 32:09Speaker 5: I don't think they've got that in I don't think
- 32:10Speaker 5: they've got the death of mord Flanders five seasons down
- 32:12Speaker 5: the line in mind at all. But yeah, it kind
- 32:15Speaker 5: of rings a little differently when your family was dead.
- 32:19Speaker 5: It's not but when you like is it. Yeah, I
- 32:23Speaker 5: don't playing a long game, but I think.
- 32:24Speaker 3: It just is a shitty joke anyway. It's just it
- 32:28Speaker 3: doesn't add anything to it. Homer being a jerk to
- 32:30Speaker 3: Flanders works, but this one felt a little too cruel.
- 32:33Speaker 5: There's being a yeah, that's exactly right, that's exactly word
- 32:36Speaker 5: it was about to use. There's being a jerk and
- 32:38Speaker 5: playing you know, playing a gag or just even like Flanders,
- 32:41Speaker 5: and but being going out of your way to be
- 32:42Speaker 5: a deliberate fucker.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Like that's like it's like when you see pranks online,
- 32:47Speaker 3: and thankfully these pranks are finished now, but you see
- 32:49Speaker 3: the clown pranks with the chainsaws and things like that,
- 32:52Speaker 3: and to be standing over this mock dead body and
- 32:54Speaker 3: you think, this guy's just waiting at the bus stop
- 32:57Speaker 3: and the guy's rocked up in a chainsaw, will be
- 32:58Speaker 3: the chainsaw a dressing the clown own. Of course he's
- 33:01Speaker 3: gonna run scared, and that's not a prank. That's I
- 33:03Speaker 3: think about that all the time. I mean, you know,
- 33:05Speaker 3: imagine if yeah, I'm at the bus stop.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Of course I would be very I would punch out
- 33:09Speaker 5: the clam because you know, I'm a tough guy, but
- 33:11Speaker 5: you know, I probably yeah, anyway, anybody would, I would
- 33:16Speaker 5: do the most. Ned Flanders gets the purple drapes response, Yeah,
- 33:21Speaker 5: that's what would happen. And then it's online and then
- 33:23Speaker 5: I'm that guy forever, yes, forever, yep. But sometimes you
- 33:26Speaker 5: see people retaliate and they go, it's just a prank, mate,
- 33:29Speaker 5: and they go.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Too bad, buddy, this is just a time. This is
- 33:32Speaker 3: just a retaliation that happens all the time.
- 33:33Speaker 5: When with tiktoks yeah or whatever, or Instagram reels away
- 33:37Speaker 5: where you'll have someone like strutting around them more and yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 5: having to go with something and yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I've seen one on hair or farting on somebody.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Yeah, someone would just literally punch them and go, hey, buddy, smack.
- 33:48Speaker 3: It was just a prank. No, no, no, I.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Never I'm no fan of pranks in any way, shape
- 33:53Speaker 5: or for him. Really, I mean, I'm reminded. I was
- 33:55Speaker 5: listening to a podcast the other day where they were
- 33:56Speaker 5: talking about punked. Yeah, the Ashton Culture show from the
- 33:59Speaker 5: early two.
- 34:00Speaker 3: That I started.
- 34:00Speaker 5: It didn't it well, you had Candon camera before that,
- 34:03Speaker 5: but this is doing it for people in the public eye.
- 34:07Speaker 5: You know, Timberlake starts crying and all that kind of stuff.
- 34:09Speaker 5: But the saddest one I've forgotten about this actually, but
- 34:13Speaker 5: as Jennifer Love.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Hewitt, I can remember this. Actually. Apparently she was like, Oh,
- 34:18Speaker 3: we've set.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Up an audition or you know, a meeting with Jennifer
- 34:21Speaker 5: Love Hewitt and she's going to get like a cool
- 34:23Speaker 5: role in this cool indie movie and it's gonna really,
- 34:25Speaker 5: you know, really change your career.
- 34:27Speaker 3: And she was stoked. She was like, because I mean, she's.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Party five girl and you know, can't hardly wait, and
- 34:32Speaker 5: she's bubbly and sweet and all that, and it's like, oh,
- 34:34Speaker 5: I get to do something. I don't think it was
- 34:36Speaker 5: like I'm working with Tarantino, but it was like, oh,
- 34:38Speaker 5: we're going.
- 34:39Speaker 3: To experimental something different.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and this could change the whole trajectory of
- 34:43Speaker 5: your career. And then they go, I guess what, you
- 34:45Speaker 5: were punked. It's not happened to you.
- 34:47Speaker 3: And she's like, oh, so I'm not doing the movie,
- 34:49Speaker 3: and I'm.
- 34:50Speaker 6: Like, man, fuck you guys. Honestly, yeah, fuck you. Yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 6: The difference between playing a joke and like breaking someone's heart.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yes exactly, and and Homer break planner is heard here
- 35:05Speaker 3: brief moment. Yeah, I mean it, it's great illustration. What
- 35:08Speaker 3: I mean.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Ned's clearly trying to be the good hearted person. He's like,
- 35:14Speaker 5: you got me that time.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I guess.
- 35:15Speaker 5: But hey, if I'm just the kind of dickhead who
- 35:18Speaker 5: could call you up and say, holy you should do.
- 35:21Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw this on the New.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Nicola rides her bike home from from you know, from
- 35:26Speaker 5: the from work, right along the waterfront. Someone just kept
- 35:29Speaker 5: by someone, you know, bike riders keep by a car. Man,
- 35:32Speaker 5: holy ship, that's a girl.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not. I don't.
- 35:35Speaker 5: I'm not sure if it was nigga, but holy ship, man,
- 35:37Speaker 5: you might want to get down there, but really her,
- 35:41Speaker 5: you would be justified.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Murdering me. Fuck pranksters. Yeah yeah, not good at all.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Not fun. And this was I say a guy Davids
- 35:52Speaker 3: funder parties. This was the first, real, genuine this is
- 35:56Speaker 3: not funny anymore. Man.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm you're more or up to speak with the
- 36:02Speaker 5: Simpsons timeline across seasons and things like that, but I'm
- 36:05Speaker 5: not going to say, oh, this is where home becomes
- 36:07Speaker 5: jerk out.
- 36:08Speaker 3: That's later on bit coms you but this is later on.
- 36:10Speaker 3: But I mean, this is this is an this is
- 36:12Speaker 3: a preview of coming attractions. Yeah, and I think too
- 36:14Speaker 3: Flanner's being such an innocent person. Incent Bystander as well.
- 36:18Speaker 3: I said, I'm all for home A Flanner's dynamite home A. No,
- 36:21Speaker 3: Flanner's been the punching bag. But to think that his
- 36:23Speaker 3: wife was dead. I know, it's just a cartoon. Everyone's
- 36:25Speaker 3: going I just shut up. It's just a cartoon. Yeah,
- 36:27Speaker 3: there's still it. Maybe being too sensitive, but because I
- 36:31Speaker 3: don't know.
- 36:32Speaker 5: It's also a little bit what they're doing is not funny.
- 36:35Speaker 5: The way homes is sort of saying your family was
- 36:39Speaker 5: dead but they're not. I still get a little bit
- 36:41Speaker 5: of a laugh out of that, but at the same time, it's.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Like, fuck it. This episode gives us the age old
- 36:45Speaker 3: debate of what does Moe say? Is it a car
- 36:49Speaker 3: hold or is it a car hole? And it was
- 36:52Speaker 3: actually settled nearly ten years ago now, but for a
- 36:54Speaker 3: long time, Simpsons fans would have debates and debates and
- 36:57Speaker 3: debates and old Simpsons dot net or whatever it was
- 36:59Speaker 3: right about what does Moe say? He does he say
- 37:02Speaker 3: car hold or car hole? Now I'm talking people were heated.
- 37:06Speaker 3: No I he says car hole. No, he says car hold.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Car holders make sense neither. There's car hold. And it
- 37:12Speaker 3: was just debate, debate, debate, right, and now we knew,
- 37:17Speaker 3: And now we know because in twenty fifteen, our dear
- 37:20Speaker 3: friend Neil from on This Day Simpson's History at Daily
- 37:22Speaker 3: Simpsons on Twitter and Instagram and YouTube and whatnot. He
- 37:26Speaker 3: put out the clip and says David Murky, he tad him,
- 37:29Speaker 3: what is the answer here? What does he actually say?
- 37:31Speaker 3: And Hanka Zari himself chimed in and he wrote, I
- 37:34Speaker 3: get asked about this at least three times a year.
- 37:37Speaker 3: He says it was written in the script as car
- 37:39Speaker 3: hole with an E. He says, I should have enunciated
- 37:42Speaker 3: it better because it's all about the way I delivered it,
- 37:44Speaker 3: but because it's clearly it was written as car hole, and
- 37:48Speaker 3: it's much funnier. It could wear both ways car hold
- 37:50Speaker 3: and car hold. It could, but I.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Think you're always in a comedy going to defer to
- 37:55Speaker 5: what's more, what's more funny? Yeah, Oh, there's a hole
- 37:59Speaker 5: in my house that I'd drive my car into.
- 38:02Speaker 3: That's yeah. Car hold is kind of like, no, that
- 38:04Speaker 3: could you could actually call it that because because the
- 38:07Speaker 3: argument was that there's no hole in the ground like that,
- 38:09Speaker 3: the argument the hole is in the front of it.
- 38:10Speaker 3: That's the hole they're driving into.
- 38:12Speaker 2: The hole?
- 38:12Speaker 3: Is that what people used to say, that there's no
- 38:14Speaker 3: hole in the garage?
- 38:15Speaker 2: Joe?
- 38:15Speaker 3: But if your team car hold, what what's wrong with you?
- 38:20Speaker 3: But that is the thing. It is a car hole.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Debate over debate done. Thank you, Hankers Area, Thanks Hank
- 38:25Speaker 3: and David, Yes, Stevin Merkan. We also got some deleted
- 38:28Speaker 3: scenes in this one here is now there's one of
- 38:32Speaker 3: them in this that is whoof but heavy. So the
- 38:36Speaker 3: first one though, is Marge when she's chopping salary and
- 38:39Speaker 3: she's doing it really really slow, and that sort of
- 38:41Speaker 3: goes on for a little bit and you're watching it,
- 38:42Speaker 3: going is this leading to anything? It doesn't lead to anything. Well,
- 38:45Speaker 3: originally did lead to something. It led to her chopping
- 38:47Speaker 3: faster and faster and faster and faster, making it more
- 38:50Speaker 3: exciting for herself, and then saying to Lisa, hand me
- 38:52Speaker 3: that scarf I want to try and like the carrots blindfolded.
- 38:56Speaker 5: I'm glad you pointed us out to me, because yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 5: I was watching and going, surely she's going to do
- 39:03Speaker 5: the long kist good night thing. Yeah, where she's clearly
- 39:06Speaker 5: going to do the chopping very fast thing where she
- 39:08Speaker 5: discovers she can do that, or you know, she's sort
- 39:10Speaker 5: of risking the tips of her fingers by chopping really
- 39:13Speaker 5: really quickly. It's, yeah, straight out of my one of
- 39:15Speaker 5: my favorite movies, Long Kiss good Night, where Geena Davis
- 39:18Speaker 5: recognizes that she can chop really quickly and then she
- 39:21Speaker 5: throws a knife into her or she nails a tomato
- 39:24Speaker 5: to the wall by throwing a knife at it. They said,
- 39:26Speaker 5: chefs do that great movie long kiss, good night, check
- 39:29Speaker 5: it out. Yeah, so that they actually have that.
- 39:31Speaker 3: As a deleted scene though it was was marvelous. Yep.
- 39:33Speaker 3: The next one here is playing up the TV cop theme.
- 39:37Speaker 3: So they're watching Cops with Marges on it with Skinner
- 39:40Speaker 3: and Agnes about the inflatable bath pillow, and I guess
- 39:43Speaker 3: in this moment here they've changed it. So I guess
- 39:45Speaker 3: the visual scene wasn't going to have him say I
- 39:47Speaker 3: want my face blurred. It was going to cut the
- 39:49Speaker 3: pan out of the TV and the cops are watching it,
- 39:51Speaker 3: and Wiggan mistakenly thinks that he's watching t J Hooker
- 39:54Speaker 3: and he says, look at He's this is the worst
- 39:55Speaker 3: two pays worn yet. I had never heard of t
- 39:58Speaker 3: J Hooker. I'd never new and will even Shatner as
- 40:01Speaker 3: a TV cop. I never knew this existed. It's it's
- 40:04Speaker 3: pretty much the antecedent of like the rookie. I did
- 40:07Speaker 3: not know this. I've watched his going, I'm looking at
- 40:09Speaker 3: it going, I think I'm going to watch this. Yeah, Well,
- 40:13Speaker 3: William Shatner is t J Hooker a beat Cop and
- 40:15Speaker 3: t J Hooker is like a home build homes or
- 40:18Speaker 3: Something's TJ is the something else? TJ? Is there something
- 40:22Speaker 3: else TJ Hooker? Right that I'm just going to confuse something.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Oh no, no, you're damn it. We're so close because
- 40:28Speaker 3: I know what you're talking. Not t J Hooker. It's
- 40:30Speaker 3: TJ something and it's like TJ or or it's something Hooker,
- 40:35Speaker 3: but there's Hooker homes something, l J Hooker, LJ. There
- 40:37Speaker 3: we go. I think that's what I was confidered, Like
- 40:39Speaker 3: what the hell they were versing home loans for no
- 40:41Speaker 3: TJ hook Like, Wow, I'm going to check this show out. Yeah,
- 40:43Speaker 3: see that's the eighties, man, you do a show called
- 40:45Speaker 3: t J Hooker. And the third one here which I watched,
- 40:50Speaker 3: is going this may be the sexiest moment of the
- 40:54Speaker 3: Simpsons I've fucking ever seen, because we've had moments where
- 40:57Speaker 3: margin Hammer and Newton bed and getting on Wader. This
- 41:00Speaker 3: it's it's the Revere, right. So Marge gets home from
- 41:02Speaker 3: a long day at work, home is asleep in bed.
- 41:04Speaker 3: She starts unbuttoning your shirt and you see the white
- 41:06Speaker 3: brand and aage as a skimpy bro. You got onto
- 41:09Speaker 3: there Okay, cool, whatever, And she starts getting undressed and
- 41:11Speaker 3: Homemo says, no, leave it on this some police working
- 41:14Speaker 3: you do before you go to sleep, And she just
- 41:16Speaker 3: crawls over him with her shirt completely undone, just bra
- 41:18Speaker 3: with cleavage, and you're like, hod damn much. I know,
- 41:22Speaker 3: like I said, I know, it's animated. Might sound weird,
- 41:24Speaker 3: but that might be the sexiest Marges ever looked. It's
- 41:27Speaker 3: rated and animated. Yeah, do you think that's why they
- 41:29Speaker 3: removed it because it's too sexy? Because why else would
- 41:33Speaker 3: you that would have added something to the scene. That's
- 41:35Speaker 3: a distinct possibility. It's too too raunchy. It's so it's
- 41:40Speaker 3: not raunchy, it's it's it's just with the shirt undone,
- 41:44Speaker 3: the bra and everything.
- 41:45Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, every once in a while, you know,
- 41:47Speaker 5: the makers of the shows show a little bit of discretion,
- 41:49Speaker 5: like people could easily take.
- 41:51Speaker 3: This the wrong way. This is semi related.
- 41:53Speaker 5: We we just recorded an episode of the movie Guy
- 41:57Speaker 5: with Maltlon Davis this morning. We're talking about one of
- 41:59Speaker 5: the greatest movie of all time, Singing in the Rain,
- 42:01Speaker 5: which I rewatched yesterday and did a bit of research on.
- 42:04Speaker 5: And there's a lovely extended dance sequence in a musical
- 42:09Speaker 5: who Knew, But there's a distinct it's Gene Kelly dancing
- 42:13Speaker 5: with a woman named sid Cheres.
- 42:16Speaker 3: She's wearing a very sort.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Of short skirt a bit of a leotard underneath, sort
- 42:20Speaker 5: of twirls her around, and there is like a very
- 42:22Speaker 5: distinct edit where she's like at this point on the
- 42:27Speaker 5: on the in the twirl, lose a couple of frames
- 42:30Speaker 5: and then she's at this point. I was like, Oh,
- 42:31Speaker 5: I'll get the thing that we might have seen something
- 42:33Speaker 5: we shouldn't. I can't reminder that's something we shouldn't. It's like,
- 42:36Speaker 5: damn it, release the original cut. I'm singing in a
- 42:40Speaker 5: director's cut.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Maybe the other reason they could have removed this is
- 42:45Speaker 3: because it's hard to take Marge as a serious cop
- 42:48Speaker 3: of she But you know, I think it it's as
- 42:50Speaker 3: a sense of realism to it. Absolutely, I mean, show
- 42:53Speaker 3: is a real relationship. Also cops of people too. Yes, yeah,
- 42:57Speaker 3: that's the thing. So I just I watched this going
- 42:59Speaker 3: I'm sad this scene wasn't in the episode. Of all
- 43:02Speaker 3: the letters, I thought, because sometimes you watch it's going, oh,
- 43:04Speaker 3: I can see there were there one or two other scenes.
- 43:08Speaker 3: There's no scene of them, but I think there's a there's.
- 43:10Speaker 5: A bit of sort of Homer alluding to it's kind
- 43:13Speaker 5: of hot that she's a cop. I'm pretty sure that there's.
- 43:15Speaker 3: At least one other okay where he's kind of like, oh,
- 43:18Speaker 3: leave the gun belt on all something like maybe, But
- 43:22Speaker 3: I just think that moment I had the.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Feeling throughout them. If they didn't make it explicit, they
- 43:26Speaker 5: were sort of a vibe. It was like, it's kind
- 43:27Speaker 5: of hard that marches.
- 43:28Speaker 3: A cap because it's the it's the mister plow ending,
- 43:31Speaker 3: that's what it is. Leave the shirt on. It's the
- 43:33Speaker 3: same kind of thing. But I'm just I'm watching, just
- 43:34Speaker 3: going aw, that's a shame that that was that was
- 43:37Speaker 3: left out. If you're a fan of everything we do

- 44:08Speaker 2: My favorite.
- 44:09Speaker 3: What were your favorite moments from the episode? Though I
- 44:12Speaker 3: had a fair few.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Okay, Sually, we're recording this episode for many reasons. This
- 44:18Speaker 5: is a good this is a good episode of the
- 44:20Speaker 5: Simpsons to talk about it.
- 44:21Speaker 3: We're actually recording this because the Patron's voted for it.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Because we do have monthly polls now and we pick
- 44:26Speaker 3: a theme. This month's theme was Star Wars and there
- 44:29Speaker 3: is a very very brief Star Wars moment in this episode.
- 44:32Speaker 3: And the people I thought people would choose Mad to
- 44:35Speaker 3: the Mob with Luke Skywick and Mark Hammell himself. No,
- 44:37Speaker 3: they went with this one. So the Springfield connection was
- 44:40Speaker 3: voted by the patriot, which is why we are talking
- 44:43Speaker 3: about it today. Yes, but dear the simp well, Home
- 44:46Speaker 3: and Marge are doing a Dano or Nicola. They're enjoying
- 44:49Speaker 3: a live performance of orchestral music, a little bit of
- 44:52Speaker 3: John Williams in there. I just love that Home was
- 44:55Speaker 3: a real pain in the our Star Wars fanboy, that's
- 45:00Speaker 3: too much use of basoon or some ship like that
- 45:03Speaker 3: the joke, or that it comes in too late, whatever
- 45:06Speaker 3: it is. Yeah, but the thing is, you think the
- 45:08Speaker 3: joke is going to be that Home doesn't like getting
- 45:10Speaker 3: out in culture and that kind of thing. No, it's
- 45:12Speaker 3: he thinks they're not doing a good job, you're doing
- 45:14Speaker 3: it wrong. Yes, but they do dumb him down by
- 45:16Speaker 3: saying John Williams rolling around in his grave. Yes, thankfully
- 45:19Speaker 3: that gag still works because it means the great man
- 45:21Speaker 3: himself is still with us. Correct. Yes, Oh my god.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Don't even Hollywood dies when he does? I think pretty
- 45:27Speaker 3: much shut up shop. Yeah, movies an't going to sound good.
- 45:30Speaker 3: I enjoyed. I was just a big fan of the
- 45:33Speaker 3: of the Hill Street Hill Street Blues version of the theme.
- 45:35Speaker 3: I've already discussed that. I also really liked when Marge
- 45:38Speaker 3: handcuffs Homer's not here that maybe that's it. Maybe so
- 45:44Speaker 3: many gags that as a kid, it takes me back
- 45:47Speaker 3: to when you got planned for tonight count me out.
- 45:50Speaker 5: Yeah, the little montage, it's not really a montage, but
- 45:53Speaker 5: it's a series of scenes where Marge's training now the
- 45:56Speaker 5: inner dar Devil's order to come out.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it comes into you like Rolle trolley. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:01Speaker 5: trolley was great. My favorite was when she goes into
- 46:06Speaker 5: the into the car hole in the garage garage, bloody dark.
- 46:10Speaker 5: We're going to do that thing again where it's like,
- 46:12Speaker 5: is a garage or garage?
- 46:13Speaker 3: Say how you'l always say, I'm going to go put
- 46:15Speaker 3: something in the garage. I'm gonna put something in the garage.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I say garage. Okay, well it.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Is what it is, the garage. But her rolling out
- 46:25Speaker 5: the door, now, this was maybe my favorite moment of
- 46:28Speaker 5: the whole episode.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Just Marge been so happy with Marge. Yeah, proud of herself.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Loved it, Yeah, just loved it. I thought that was
- 46:36Speaker 3: I don't know why. It's like a little part of herself.
- 46:39Speaker 3: She's finally letting out.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Yes, I talk about this, Abyss, I've talked about this.
- 46:44Speaker 5: But yeah, the Bear, we like the Bear TV show,
- 46:47Speaker 5: The Bear coming back soon.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's the episode. Yeah, spoons Forks talks. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 3: it would be one of three things. It's a really
- 46:56Speaker 3: good but there's only three good episode. It was a
- 46:59Speaker 3: nice fourpence but.
- 47:02Speaker 5: In that episode, yeah, it's cousin Richie's views, it's kind
- 47:06Speaker 5: of a bit of a screw up bit of a passenger.
- 47:09Speaker 5: He's got talent that other people can see hints of
- 47:12Speaker 5: and being misused yeah, and are helping to nurture even
- 47:15Speaker 5: if he doesn't see it.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 47:16Speaker 5: And he has a great night at the restaurant that
- 47:18Speaker 5: he's been sort of seconded to, and he realizes, oh,
- 47:21Speaker 5: holy shit, there's there's something that I can do, and
- 47:23Speaker 5: there's something I'm really really good at, and everyone around
- 47:26Speaker 5: him starting to see it and encourage it, and he
- 47:28Speaker 5: sees it too. He drives home singing to Taylor Swift's
- 47:32Speaker 5: daughter song. Yeah, yeah, I think it's a love story.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Yeah, makes me so happy. I queue that up all
- 47:38Speaker 3: the time, man sing Taylor Swift, just realizing I've found
- 47:40Speaker 3: my place yeah well yeah yeah, And that's what this
- 47:43Speaker 3: bit reminded me of. Just finally I know what I'm
- 47:45Speaker 3: good at. Yeah, yeah, my purpose. Yeah and just brilliant
- 47:49Speaker 3: just barge. Yeah. Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it.
- 47:53Speaker 3: What else? I was a bigger fan. I was a
- 47:55Speaker 3: big fan of I always thought this was a mistake
- 47:59Speaker 3: my entire life, up until maybe fewety when I realized
- 48:02Speaker 3: what it was. Always thought that was so weird, you know,
- 48:05Speaker 3: when you're sometimes in your house, right, and you swear
- 48:08Speaker 3: your lights flick off and down like it's like the
- 48:11Speaker 3: house and have a blackout, like it doesn't go fully
- 48:13Speaker 3: fledged blanket sort of phase a little bit, yes, and
- 48:15Speaker 3: you'll say to someone to just go dark and they
- 48:17Speaker 3: go known. You're like having it straight. Look at that moment.
- 48:20Speaker 3: There's a moment here Hans Moleman is on the what's
- 48:25Speaker 3: it called when you're the death row or death row
- 48:27Speaker 3: the green mile, Right, he's walking down right, he's been
- 48:29Speaker 3: led to the electric chair and it cuts to Marge
- 48:31Speaker 3: and Homer and it phased in and outsidely and that's
- 48:34Speaker 3: the joke that he's being executed. Yeah, because really shit, Yeah,
- 48:37Speaker 3: the electric chack is drawing all the powers. So there
- 48:39Speaker 3: was absolutely like that is one of the most subtle
- 48:42Speaker 3: gags of all time. But it's so good. It's good,
- 48:45Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 48:47Speaker 5: A couple of other things that I really enjoyed. We're
- 48:49Speaker 5: talking about just great gags, and there's great subtle gags.
- 48:52Speaker 5: There was just wonderful timing on some of these jokes.
- 48:56Speaker 3: I mean, the whole or just good joke construction, the
- 49:00Speaker 3: whole Homer Butt fake out when it's like you did
- 49:02Speaker 3: what like I bought you now a clipper, I saying,
- 49:07Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm still angry you.
- 49:09Speaker 5: I'm still you know, annoyed. I'm still freaked out by
- 49:12Speaker 5: your mom telling me that she's become a cop. Yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 5: because you were initially think, oh he's you did what
- 49:17Speaker 5: he's yelling at a much Oh no, he's yelling at
- 49:19Speaker 5: a butt. Why is he yelling because margins are top?
- 49:21Speaker 3: That's good?
- 49:22Speaker 5: Yes, I mean it's kind of it's not when I
- 49:24Speaker 5: say basic, it's like, oh, all jokes should.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Be this good. Well, they did this joke last week
- 49:29Speaker 3: on the season twenty episode in the Name of the Grandfather, going,
- 49:32Speaker 3: you mean you have to get on a plane to
- 49:33Speaker 3: go to island or something like that, and then it
- 49:35Speaker 3: cuts to them looking at the plane.
- 49:37Speaker 5: It's like it's like fundamentals, It's like just really good,
- 49:41Speaker 5: just basic go. When it's done, well, it's like, oh, yes, yeah,
- 49:44Speaker 5: you just really enjoy it.
- 49:45Speaker 3: But also I just really love this. When Marge's doing
- 49:48Speaker 3: Hogan's Awe, you.
- 49:48Speaker 5: Know that is where they the the cutouts of various
- 49:52Speaker 5: things and you.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Men in black, Yeah, that's right, clan's coming to you
- 49:57Speaker 3: missed the baby. You missed the bie man, it doesn't dwell.
- 50:01Speaker 5: Then the second he said you messed that by a
- 50:02Speaker 5: man cut, Yeah, you got it, and it was just like.
- 50:06Speaker 3: That's great, that's so good. Yeah, so I'm knowing when
- 50:09Speaker 3: to get out. Yeah.
- 50:11Speaker 5: And also I thought it was pretty funny when the
- 50:14Speaker 5: oh we're going to enjoy this. Yeah, we got everything
- 50:16Speaker 5: we need on you.
- 50:18Speaker 3: It's pizza. You think you're so hot, don't you?
- 50:22Speaker 2: Was it good?
- 50:24Speaker 3: But then I love with Maudgell saying, wow, my bye
- 50:25Speaker 3: blays better to be about pizza.
- 50:27Speaker 5: About by the way, different design of Clancy Wigham and
- 50:31Speaker 5: this say he looks a little thinner, and yeah.
- 50:33Speaker 3: There is Actually I call it an error on the
- 50:36Speaker 3: animator's behalf. On the they called the animators the ones
- 50:39Speaker 3: that colored in right in Korea, so I think the
- 50:43Speaker 3: I think they animated as well, because I actually had
- 50:44Speaker 3: an issue that because guns were banned Korea, they didn't
- 50:46Speaker 3: know how shells would fall out of a gun. That
- 50:48Speaker 3: actually asked some of the US animates, how do we
- 50:50Speaker 3: draw these shells fall? The Americans? We know so in
- 50:55Speaker 3: the nighttime scenes, Wigham's hair is black in this right right,
- 50:59Speaker 3: And I had someone tell me once what's because it's dark.
- 51:02Speaker 3: I went, but March's in the same scene and it
- 51:05Speaker 3: has still blue.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Yeah, it's an interesting animation in this. Yeah, you're right.
- 51:09Speaker 5: And going back to season six episode, now that we've
- 51:11Speaker 5: been doing season twenty and now that we're doing high
- 51:13Speaker 5: definition episodes as well, it's like, oh, well, oh, this
- 51:17Speaker 5: feels like coming home old school and drawn.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Yeah. Four to three.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Yeah, to me, it was really funny during that laughing
- 51:24Speaker 5: scenons when Marge first joined the cops. You look at
- 51:27Speaker 5: Wigham and it's kind of like it's that Star Wars
- 51:30Speaker 5: thing when with the Tusken Raiders, like, oh, we only
- 51:31Speaker 5: got three friends.
- 51:35Speaker 3: His clansing ha ha.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that's going to be bad audio. Sorry, because I'm
- 51:40Speaker 5: doing the clancy. Yeah, but it's just him moving back
- 51:44Speaker 5: and forward, back and forward.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Yeah. I actually didn't double check, but I would love
- 51:49Speaker 3: if they just used the same animation from the first
- 51:52Speaker 3: laugh of the second laughter, just put it. That would
- 51:54Speaker 3: be good.
- 51:55Speaker 5: Yeah all right, but yeah, those were some of my
- 51:57Speaker 5: favorite monthes. There's gonna be more as we talk about
- 51:59Speaker 5: the episode.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Next question, you there eating the Beast.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Well, I'm going to ask you some questions. Now. My
- 52:05Speaker 3: first question for you is how many sponges are being
- 52:08Speaker 3: previewed in the latest copy of Sponge and Vacuum.
- 52:10Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, I was looking at something different.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Think of you're gonna have a fifty fifty chance to
- 52:16Speaker 3: get this right. It's here the year before or the
- 52:18Speaker 3: year after? This came out nineteen.
- 52:22Speaker 5: Ninety God, I've already forgotten the year again.
- 52:26Speaker 3: This came out ninety five. Okay, so I'm gonna say
- 52:28Speaker 3: it's nineteen ninety six. Well, it's ninety six, is the answer?
- 52:31Speaker 3: Ninety six punches? Yes? Okay.
- 52:33Speaker 5: Speaking of Sponge and Vacuum magazine, how much is in
- 52:36Speaker 5: this shiel would cost?
- 52:37Speaker 2: Ooh?
- 52:38Speaker 3: I wrote down the prices for the other ones, the
- 52:41Speaker 3: sports sports ones. Ah, four ninety five, three three ninety five.
- 52:45Speaker 3: There was another one that was for ninety sports. Yeah,
- 52:47Speaker 3: there's another one. Yeah, a skateboard is considered what kind
- 52:50Speaker 3: of vehicle according to March? That's why yes, to wear
- 52:52Speaker 3: his knee pads? Is it class nine? Crayne year class
- 52:56Speaker 3: last nine?
- 52:57Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 52:57Speaker 3: Okay. I don't have that many trivia questions. I'm sorry,
- 52:59Speaker 3: but I do have Who is the buyer of the
- 53:02Speaker 3: counter for Jans? What's his name?
- 53:04Speaker 2: Oh?
- 53:04Speaker 3: Good question? Now what is it? Mister Jericho? Mister Jericho,
- 53:07Speaker 3: My final question for you is who was in the
- 53:09Speaker 3: drunk tank at the police station where Marge is giving
- 53:11Speaker 3: Lisa the tour? Bunny? It is bunny, indeed, all right,
- 53:15Speaker 3: short and sweet, trivia is done? Is that? How many
- 53:17Speaker 3: questions did you ask? I ask three? Okay, let me
- 53:20Speaker 3: see if I can find one more. Okay, then find
- 53:22Speaker 3: one more for me. Well, I'm going to ask you
- 53:25Speaker 3: a question and you can lead into why there was
- 53:27Speaker 3: a mistake here. So Chief Wigham puts Marge on the
- 53:29Speaker 3: beat where because she's vulnerable.
- 53:32Speaker 5: And you I always that love the only cops of
- 53:36Speaker 5: God Like, it's a donut duty or backup donut yea
- 53:41Speaker 5: or nap time, brilliant, let's be a cop. Meanwhile, Marge
- 53:44Speaker 5: has to patrol junkie Bille and bum Town. But when
- 53:49Speaker 5: she goes to what is it the.
- 53:52Speaker 3: She's just walking down the street.
- 53:53Speaker 5: It's a law firm, that's right, Oh, that's right, it's
- 53:55Speaker 5: Lionel Hudson's law firm. Where is that located? Junkie Town?
- 53:59Speaker 5: The hell going on?
- 54:03Speaker 3: I hope someone going vie for that era. It's a
- 54:05Speaker 3: different voice. But anyway, that was contributed that Phil Harp,
- 54:09Speaker 3: it would have been great if next door there was
- 54:11Speaker 3: a discosto store called Bunkytown. That's correct. It won't take
- 54:15Speaker 3: you take me down to junkie but Jokingtown is such
- 54:17Speaker 3: a great name. It is good, isn't it.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yeah, So I'm willing to accept this mistake for the
- 54:21Speaker 3: fact that we've got Junkie Town.
- 54:23Speaker 5: I could ask you one question for it. What is
- 54:25Speaker 5: the name of the gentleman who was put aside the
- 54:27Speaker 5: copy of Sponge and Vacuum format.
- 54:29Speaker 3: It's a really weird name it is. It's check my notes,
- 54:33Speaker 3: my lad to you can, because I'll try, I do
- 54:35Speaker 3: it quickly enough, so it's going to be Yes, Benevan
- 54:44Speaker 3: it is benevn Stanciano. Yeah, And we never see him again.
- 54:48Speaker 3: We never do. What's all that about? I have fond
- 54:52Speaker 3: memories though, of the guy that ran the news agency
- 54:54Speaker 3: when I was a kid. You know you, the guy
- 54:56Speaker 3: that ran the news agency because he had the magazines.
- 54:58Speaker 3: And the guy that ran the video store. Oh yeah,
- 55:00Speaker 3: first name basis best buddies. Absolutely, I'd go hang out
- 55:03Speaker 3: and read the magazines again, walk three stores down Champagne
- 55:06Speaker 3: Video and I look through the videos and the guy
- 55:08Speaker 3: was like, Mama, luck leave me there. She go, Oh
- 55:10Speaker 3: where are you? We're just gonna go to the video store.
- 55:12Speaker 3: She knew I was safe. She knew once I entered
- 55:14Speaker 3: that video store, I wasn't going anywhere else. Absolutely yeah.
- 55:16Speaker 3: And she knew that, you know, Chris behind the counter,
- 55:17Speaker 3: he'd make sure I wouldn't leave as well. God Bless Chris,
- 55:20Speaker 3: God bless video stores. Oh yeah, Okay, so that's the
- 55:34Speaker 3: end of our trivia, which means it's now time to
- 55:36Speaker 3: get into the names of the people who bring you
- 55:39Speaker 3: this show each and every week, and of course we
- 55:41Speaker 3: always start with the incredible, the amazing Kati G. Thank

- 56:39Speaker 3: you're on the five dollar plus tire and I have
- 56:41Speaker 3: not read your name out, do not fear. In the
- 56:43Speaker 3: next mail bag episode the community podcast at the end
- 56:46Speaker 3: of the month, we're reading through all of your names
- 56:48Speaker 3: as well, so stay tuned for that as well. That's right,
- 56:50Speaker 3: Dana would never forget your names. That's his job. That
- 56:53Speaker 3: is my job. Everything's my job. Okay, it is time
- 56:59Speaker 3: now where we're gonna run through the episode The Springfield Connection,
- 57:02Speaker 3: which originally aired May seventh, nineteen ninety five, guest starred
- 57:05Speaker 3: Phil Harmon as Lionel Hearts. You always gonna say, guestar
- 57:07Speaker 3: Phil Harmon, evey chance to mention Phil Hartman, here gonna
- 57:09Speaker 3: take it. Production code to F two one, written by
- 57:12Speaker 3: Jonathan Collier, directed by the legendary Mark Kirkler. So, as
- 57:15Speaker 3: I said May seventh, nineteen ninety five, that would mean
- 57:18Speaker 3: that the top three films at the US box office
- 57:20Speaker 3: when this episode originally aired were in number three. Well, actually,
- 57:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna say number four as well, because number four
- 57:26Speaker 3: was Bad Boys, So I thought Bad Boys was number
- 57:29Speaker 3: four at the US box officers. Cops were hot at
- 57:31Speaker 3: the time. Number number three. We had Friday. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 3: the comedy Next Friday was the sequel to that one,
- 57:38Speaker 3: but we didn't get a third. Should have been to Friday,
- 57:40Speaker 3: Next Friday? What should have been last Friday? Friday after next?
- 57:43Speaker 3: Do we have a Friday at the next the film?
- 57:45Speaker 3: I feel like we had a trilogy. I feel like
- 57:47Speaker 3: we may have had a trilogy.
- 57:48Speaker 5: With I get the feeling that Cbe actually wants to
- 57:50Speaker 5: reboot the Friday franchise.
- 57:52Speaker 3: That's see Okay, anyway, but that was number that was number.
- 57:56Speaker 5: Sorry, he just reminded me of I'm sure we've talked
- 57:58Speaker 5: about this, but watching Straight Straight out of Compton, the
- 58:01Speaker 5: movie of n NWA and Cub's done really well for himself.
- 58:04Speaker 5: But they have a seen where he's like sitting down
- 58:05Speaker 5: at his computer, like typing type of something away and
- 58:08Speaker 5: his wife, how's Friday coming, honey?
- 58:12Speaker 3: Pretty good? That's where the iconic DM Chris Tucker. Chris
- 58:20Speaker 3: Tiker indeed was that his first role? Was it? I
- 58:22Speaker 3: think it might have been one that sort of introduced
- 58:25Speaker 3: him to the scene. Okay, well, Number three at the
- 58:26Speaker 3: US box office at the time of this airing was Friday.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Number two was While You Were Sleeping A Lovely Movie, Bill,
- 58:34Speaker 3: Bill Pullman, Bullet yep. And number one was French Kiss,
- 58:39Speaker 3: which I can honestly say, I have no idea where
- 58:41Speaker 3: that is, Meg Ryan and Kevin Klein. Sounds like a
- 58:44Speaker 3: movie I'd probably enjoy with Nicol on a Friday night.
- 58:46Speaker 3: You may well. It's it's kind of a sweet enough
- 58:49Speaker 3: rom com. It's a little it's fine. The film I've
- 58:51Speaker 3: never seen, and that the film clip because it was
- 58:54Speaker 3: back in an era where the film clip for songs.
- 58:57Speaker 3: If it was tied in with the film, you'd see
- 58:58Speaker 3: scenes from the film throughout because it came on yesterday,
- 59:01Speaker 3: and Nicolay goes, I've never seen this movie. We should
- 59:03Speaker 3: watch it City of Angels because Iris by Goo Goo
- 59:06Speaker 3: Dolls has scenes from the movie in there. Oh yeah,
- 59:09Speaker 3: so I feel like I've seen it, but I never
- 59:10Speaker 3: had actually seen it. So is City of Angels worth Seecus,
- 59:12Speaker 3: Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. It is. It's pretty good.
- 59:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, putting the nerd hat on, putting the nerd
- 59:18Speaker 5: hat on. City of Angels came out in nineteen ninety eight,
- 59:21Speaker 5: starring Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage. It is based on
- 59:24Speaker 5: a beautiful, beautiful movie, a German movie called Wings of Desire.
- 59:29Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, but yeah.
- 59:30Speaker 5: The plot of it is angels are among us all
- 59:33Speaker 5: the time you're feeling a bit sad, they might whispering, hey,
- 59:35Speaker 5: life's not that bad, all that kind of stuff, and
- 59:37Speaker 5: they're also watching it, and they're also very envious of
- 59:39Speaker 5: us because you know, they're angels, but we're human. We
- 59:42Speaker 5: get to feel stuff and do stuff.
- 59:44Speaker 3: It's great.
- 59:45Speaker 5: One angel gets so sort of taken with life in general.
- 59:49Speaker 5: But also this one particular woman's like gonna renounced angelhood
- 59:52Speaker 5: become a human being. Wait a minute, how I'm hurting?
- 59:55Speaker 5: Oh wait a minute, I'm feeling pain and suffering. But
- 59:56Speaker 5: wait a minute, I mean love also spoil anything, No,
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: no unified theory a four finger discount. We recently did
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: raisins on going down to South Park. What does Butter's
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: talk about? It's like, you know what, Yeah, I feel
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: sad but also felt really good. And if I feel
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: this out, I must have felt really good. Makes me
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: feel human, makes me feel like alive. That's a lot
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: what City of Angels is about? Okay, worth checking out
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: checking out City of Angels, but also worth checking out
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: Wins of Desire.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: There's that an older film, is it? It's from the eighties. Okay,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: it's not too old man, of course. Yeah, City Angel
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: is a good one. So the chopboy gag this episode
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: is by the way, Sorry.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Just checking breaking news. Just wiki Friday.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: The film success led to two sequels, Next Friday and
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Friday After Next. Soon as he said, I wait, wait
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: a minute, that is a film, right? Yeah?
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: When was Friday After Next? That was two thousand and two.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Next Friday was two thousand.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: I didn't realize it in a trilogy so long ago. Well,
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: good for them, there we go. But the chopboard gag
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: I will not mock missus, dumbface. And the couch gag
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: was the one where Homer enters as James Bond and
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: shoots at the screen. Apparently it was very similar to
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Deshaun Connery era. That's what it says somewhere. It's a
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: reused couch gag from and Maggie makes three. Okay even
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: to the era where they went. We're not making new
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: ones anymore like this. So the episode kicks off with
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: margin Homer. They are in there at the Jepidar Springfield
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Park and they're listening to the Symphony Orchestra of the
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Springfield Pops and playing Star Wars songs. The sign at
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: the front reads tonight at eight Medfly Spraying eight fifteen
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: Springfield Pops. What's POP stand for Springfield Pops. That's a
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: really good question. I was like, is that the orchestra?
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Because we say the Melvin Symphony Orchestra.
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: The msay, but there's an orchest called the Boston Pops.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Okay, well that would be it. Then it's the orchestra
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: what it's short for, I'm not sure. And then at
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: a thirty they're going to be doing a second round
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: of the Spring. So Marge is glad that they got
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: out of the house. You know, we're going to be
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: learning some culture whatnot. But Homer, he's not angry at
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: the house. He's angry the butchering the classics.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: The pops. It's a symphony orchestra, but they will specialize
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: in light classical and popular music.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Okay, then so since the buffoon came in too late,
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: he's angry about this and too many lasers and mirror
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: ball and John Williams be rolling around in his grave.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Then they transition into Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star, because the
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: star wars that kind of thing, and he but thinks
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: he's so intelligent. It's satirical. Satirical, Yes, I wonder if
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: anyone else got that. It looks over at home homes
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: like we're out of here. It's the purest prick. I
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: think it's very funny. They're walking through a rough neighborhood.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Why they didn't just drive there, I don't know. But
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: you know, we've been to festivals here in Geelong at
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: the Mountain need what's it called to need. What's the
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: area called, the place where it's held. It's a wine
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: er state or something pedible, whatever it's called, where they
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: have the day on the green, the fucking shit show.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: If you drive your car there, don't do it. Oh God,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I understand if Homer Image didn't drive to it for
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: the same reason Jebedi I Spreatiel Park would have been
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: full of cars. They didn't do it. So they're walking
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: home through a dangerous neighborhood, especially dangerous for them for
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: their upper lower middle class types.
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: Yes, and then he says it relates to you know
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: what we were talking about recently without power Luke from
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: the ABC. Yeah, exactly, And so he says to avoid
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: eye contact, what's your pocketbook? And suspect everyone. But then
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: he immediately gets sucked into playing three card Monty because,
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: as he calls it, easy money. I have memories of
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: this when I've mentioned before in Hyde Park in London,
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: the old guy doing the whole this is you get
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: them right, because they always let you win the first
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: one because like, oh okay, I can win this, and
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: in the second one you double your money from the first,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: but you go on bet fifty bucks from the get
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: go because they want people watching.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: To think you can actually do this. So you bet
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: a lot at the start, and then they have to
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: let you win the first one. You win your fifty
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: bucks and you go, I'm done. They're like, fuck, there
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: you go, Dan, do crack the make you always win
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: the first time if there's a crowd there. They want
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: people to see that somebody can do this. So bet
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: bet big at the start, you'll win it, and then
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: just walk away. But the problem is people can't walk away.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: I feel like that guy on any sports gamble again, responsibily,
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: you win big, you'll lose more. Dan's not a professional.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: Maybe don't, well, just don't do it. If you must
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: do this, then do it that way. Just maybe don't
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: do it. Don't do it at all.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: No.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: But so this is where it's Snake and Marge tries
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: to point out, you know, I think this is read
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: because look over there, this this guy here, he's winning.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: This guy Ki's winning. Yeah, but he looks just like Snake.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Now he is Snake's brother. We never see him again.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I did some research. He calls him bros. I'm assuming
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: it's his brother. Looks just like him. What do you
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: think happened to Snake's brother. Do you think he still
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: lives in Springfield? What does he do for an actual living?
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Where is he now? What is Snakes?
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: I think that he was so traumatized by this whole
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: event that he straightened up and flew right and now
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: he's like working as a CPA somewhere you reckon, Oh yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: helping troubled youth. I think so, yeah, oh yeah, that's
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: that's what he does in his downtime. You know, he's
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: down at the rec center and don't do what Donnie
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: don't did?
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: I can buy into that. Tries to get Snake onto
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: the right path and Snake's lot Snate tries but just
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: can't get out of them. That's right. Yeah, they've got
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Glory there with what's her name, jale D? Yeah yeah,
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: jail D yeah yeah, just taking him down the bad path.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: Snake cheats him though, by asking him to choose a
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: red card when actually there is no red card. They're
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: roll black even Homers like, how could you? And surely
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: you don't blame me? So then Marge calls calls him out,
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: how do you pray on the greedy and stupid like that?
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: And Snake bales but nobody goes to stop him. So
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Marge's like, well, if no one's going to stop him,
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: I'm going to do it. And as she explains, sometimes
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: regular citizens just get a rush of blood ahead and
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: ajorenal and they do things they shouldn't. We get a
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: fund little chase sequence here, though only goes about ten
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: seconds or so. But like, this episode was filled with
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: lots of fun sequences just like this, and I'm leaping
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: ahead a little bit here, but it also yea ties
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: into like just really good gag construction of really good
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: gag execution. With Homer getting out of breath, it's like, oh,
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: you're playing this a little bit long. He was like,
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: oh okay.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: But however, many minutes later when you see him again,
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: he's still doing this bath there.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Okay, I appreciate that.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: Yes, so yeah, but back to the the Springfield connection.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Yeah, in progress. So she corners Snake in the alleyway,
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: so he turns around and pulls a knife on her.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I must warn you, Yeah, sometimes ordinary people that did
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: the Yeah, I had a surge of adrenaline.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: See this is totally as I said Nicolay in New
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: York when that guy tried to Jubis at the subway
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: and she was just like, oh you And I'm like,
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: oh man, we are going to die down here. You
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: realize where we are, New York. We're in New York.
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: So the cops then arrest Snake. Snake says, you'll be
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: back on the streets in twenty four hours and I'll
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: try to make it twelve. Yeah, And it's just, yeah,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: just pointing out how dumb the police forces, isn't it.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: This episode.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: You don't get the greatest picture, but it's you. March
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: seems to exemplify the best of it, community service and
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: that kind of do.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: But these people that get pushed out because they can't
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: handle the corruption. What is that?
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Homer arrives to check on her, who's been driven
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: in the police car. It says, it's great scene. The
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: cops save a hysterical woman and Dan's on distress, that
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: kind of thing, just patronizing her, even when she says
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: she's okay, easy in our sweetheart home. He's here like
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: he's done something. It's just real. I don't think he's
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: deliberately doing it. It's just how it's just the howards
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: programmed that society. So the next day, Lisa is. She
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: gets Bart in a armlock of some kind of asking March,
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: just how you did it? That's what you did? She says,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: so much as to let him go, and Barbara tends
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: like I didn't hurt again because my sister can't hurt me.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: That can't possibly be thing. He walks off and clearly
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: he's in pain, and Lisa asks if it's the most
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: exciting thing she ever did. She says it was great,
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: but no chopping salary is pretty exciting too, and we
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: get the deleted scene, but we don't actually get it,
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: but we would normally get the deleted scene. If you're

- 1:08:08Speaker 3: to take this moment here to show my appreciation. We
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: must not forget the opportunity to show our appreciation for
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: a solid homemade vegetable soup. Oh yes, one of my
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: favorite things in this world. My great nan used to
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: make it more younger, right, and no, no one made
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: it anywhere near as good as my great and your
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: mum's or your NaN's. Vegie SIPs always your favorite because
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: it's what you've wrong with, right. We would go to
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: her house on school holidays and on a Wednesday, she
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: lived here on Church Street, not far from you, and
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: she would make us veggie soup for lunch. We fucking
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: love it, right, we'd love it. But there's the only
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: time we'd ever eat veggies be excited for veggies. Anyway,
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: that was a great NaN's house. My friends would come
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: to our place on school holidays and I asked if
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: they can come to her house to eat her veggie soup.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Kids would come to eat veggie soup, right. And then
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: when she passed my nan Marlene, she sort of started.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: She took over the role. She was near the veget
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: soup made it exactly the same, and I was, but
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: how does she do it? And we used to help
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: out Nan making it with parsnips and turnips and all
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: this shit that you wouldn't never even look at. Oh
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: no you never read it on a plate. No, you
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: look like it all added up to this delicious, thick,
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: delicious veggie soup. And she had this this secret recipe.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: And should I say, I think I might have even
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: said the podcast it is a spread. What do you
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: think the secret recipe of NaN's soup was? Mmm, there's
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: a bit of veggie mighte there. I'm sure it's veggie might, Yeah,
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: chicken noodle soup and veggiemite there, Yeah, the vegie might,
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: all the salt in it. It just I tried it
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: without the vegie might and then push put vegimi in it,
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: mix it through. It's like, ah, that's the eleventh Herban spice,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: you know. So I just wanted to show appreciation for
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: veggie soup because it's just as delicious. Oh yeah, I
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: need to do it soon. I need to make some
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: because I always say I'm gonna make it. Like Nan,
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: you say you're gonna do things, you never do it,
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: But veggie soup, it's you never never has to have
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: some veggie soup in the fridge during winter.
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: Oh yeah, no, soups marvelous and particularly a good veggie soup.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: Margaret Mary made a very very good one.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: But it's always it's always the thing that your mum
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: or some memory of your family will have a certain
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: dish that.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: You just adore and only they can make it. Yeah.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: And for me, it's like the little egg and bake
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: pies that my maid growing up. My sister Prew makes
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: them occasionally she even shemits like they're not as good
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: as mumps, and I've made my own.
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: I'm like, they're close, but they're closed. But no, she knows.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: Exactly the right amount of powdered mustard to put in
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: or water, but it was just the right amount of
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: sold or oh you use this type of onion, but
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: not that all that kind of thing.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: Still good. But it's like they and they have the
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: same pants when you're a kid too. Is it the
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: pan a magic pair? Yeah? I remember when Nichola went
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: to England earlier this year in February. It was February, yees, February,
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: and Nicholas rosotto is my favorite food that she makes.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: I love her result, and I thought, I'm just gonna
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: try and make it because I thought it can't be
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: that hard. And I ate it and I went, yeah,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: I think I much as like Nicola mast Sometimes it's
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: bestly the classics to the person that created him. So
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: now margin's at the grocery store. She's looking for different
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: food to purchase, and she comes across ham no more spam,
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: sandar hamskin, devil with hands, devil hand, which is just
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: hamm with spices through it, apparently, I think so. Yeah,
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: but any ham out of her can is just iffy
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: to me. It's a last resort. Yeah, I'm not gonna
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: be eat ham and of a can ham it anymore.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: But still just the idea of spam, just like this
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: chunk of slamy ham. Yeah, slamy ham. But then she
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: takes a trolley ride, which you know we've all done
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: from times a time. I still do it occasonally. It's
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: a bit of fun when no one's looking, no one's around,
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: and she accellently let's go and it flies off into
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: the giant cheese stand, which is featuring itchy it cheese.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: That says. Then she has arrived home and she slides
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: under the garage door. Just like Indiana Jones. You were saying, Ude,
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: I noticed another animation era here. The car was blue.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: Oh her car, her station wagon is like a ready
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: color orange. You ready color letting the sign down? Yeah,
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: and not a great day for the animators at all.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: Then be benevann stance you whatever be. He gives Marge
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: the lettterst copy of Sponge and Vacuum. Sounds a little
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: wise guys, it does. That's why I was surprised it
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: wasn't the wise guy. Yeah, but I guess the wise
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: guy wouldn't be nice. This guy seems like the guy
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: that you want to giving your magazines ordering for you.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: He's got his ship together. Yeah, but she sees she
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: seems more keen now on the Death Sports magazine. So
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: she's got Bear Eader for four ninety five, Rock Jumper,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: the mag for people who like to jump from rock
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: to two five wash Pita number two at three ninety five,
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Dangerka Minefield's Playground for the nineties, Cliff Bike Cliff Biker
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: mag The Art of Falling for four ninety five. But
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: she ends up choosing or she doesn't choose it, but
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: she looks taken with the glass Eater issue number four
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: wine bottles our ten favorite vintages, costing four ninety five.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: But as she's looking at the magazines, we see the
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: cops arrive with what we think is a criminal. All right,
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: get in there, you're going down. I want a piece
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: of him.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: You thank you pretty hard. Eh well, we got everything
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: we need on you.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: Excuse me, right, word right, right right? Just better be
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: about preacher.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Actually I'm interested in becoming a police officer.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Come on by. But Homer's mad as you're saying you
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: did what and it's just the nail clipper. He's upset though,
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: since March has decided to be a cop and she
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: agrees to let bart come along when she's doing convictions,
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: and Homer is now just more worried about the fact
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: that he thinks this makes hurt the man and him
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: the woman. You know, you're the man and the woman,
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: and I have no interest in mean it. I'll wear
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: the clothes the lingerie sometimes just purely for the company
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: comfort thing. Yes, I did like here though that when
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: she says, don't worry about it, homie, you're all good.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: You know you're gontam to worry about they kiss. He
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: puts his foot the sterogy of a cliche woman foot
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: up in the background. Now it's time for some training,
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: and we get here saying this guy, so when do
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: we forget the guns? We look at the badge, We'll
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: get the freaking guns guns. That was cut out on
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: TV when he says when do we get the freaking guns?
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: He usould just have him saying, you know, it takes
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: once who a weekend to get that badge, and it
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: would just cut him saying I've had it to here
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: with your rules and you're like, that makes no sense,
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: what is going on here? But he used to cut
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: out the line about the gun was back now it
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: is back in now Disney Plus. Yeah, well then nothing's
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: cut out now, but this is back on Food Air TV. Yeah.
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: Rule.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Yes. We did have one of our patrons asking us
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: for some talking points and they said, is this do
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: you think this is one of the better one scene characters.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: He's pretty memorable, But I wouldn't say because as a
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: kid growing up I never saw him really the rules
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: part of the freaking guns. Yeah, it was more confusing
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: than anything. And you know what it feels like, is
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: this a police academy reference or something? Because it says
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: something about being a Police Academy reference. I've never seen
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: the films, but he feels his design looks so unique
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: that it looks like somebody from Yeah, it doesn't. To
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: the best of my recollections.
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: It has been a long time since I've seen a
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: Police Academy movie. They certainly have a trigger happy character
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: in the Police Academy films in the movies. But yeah,
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: he doesn't look like a psycho like this guy. This
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: guy looks like a genuine psycho. Oh yeah, it looks
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: like an older Wendell.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, he's sort of.
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: He's very pale, and he's got the sort of like
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: what flattop haircut and all that.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but Marge, she's doing that the training. He has
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: trouble finding the door during the obsciccle course, which is
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: the obviously and the gentleman references. You're saying, not the door,
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: but just climbing out for the wall. She shoots really
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: really well, mister Baby, mister it by Man, and she
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: drives incredibly well. March is a great drive. Yeah, but
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: Wigham says that he wasn't looking. He was too busy
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: doing the magic eyebook. I could never do these magic guiebooks,
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: and no matter how many times I tried, I had
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: friends that could do it, and I fell like the
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: odd one out. I was like, what's wrong with me?
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Why can I do this? I just I couldn't do it.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: I was never really good at him either. I'd always brownie.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: I'd always get a headache as well. Yeah. But Marge
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: arrives home dressed in her hard Rock Cafe shirt because
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: they didn't have her size. But you know, you get
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: the idea. She's a cop now over breakfast, and I
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: love that she's already eating doughnuts like a cop? Is
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: she in this scene? Here?
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: I didn't notice that is That's a good joke. Yeah,
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Bart says here, well, Mom, I never pitched you as
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: an authority figure before, which is funny and sad at
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: the same time, because that's just this episode is all
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: about perception, women's perception. And Homer's worried for her because,
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: you know, dangerously, so maybe he was worried for her
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: safety at some point. And Lisa and Bart ask her,
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: I've grown very close to you, yes, and he said they.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Lisa and Bart asked, when would you have to take
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: a bullet? Would you had to take a bullet for
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: the mayor. She says, yes, what about a TV? No,
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: what about a TV with a picture of the mare
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: on it? But Lisa says, they're proud of her as
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: long as it's constitutional. And Homus got the pepper spray
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: and he says, one sprain and you're sap of the
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: boarder sprays it on his food and incapacitated, and he
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: gets the ordery watery eyes. I'd know about you, but
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: seeing anybody with watery eyes makes my eyes water. It's like,
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: did you see someone cry? Do you tear up? No?
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Because I have no soul. Oh, I know that. But
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: now at police School, I know the police. This is
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: police that she's on the job. There's the morning meeting. Yeah,
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: and Would and van Zilond have taken donut Land when
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: they cook up a fresh battery, call it in Kennelly
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: and Earhart back them.
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: Up by the way, speaking donuts, you yeah either, Daniels Donuts.
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: Geelong Institution has now closed.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: No ship. Yeah. I thought they were doing really well. Actually,
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: but anytime I go there, there weren't that many people there.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: I thought they were just everywhere. Oh okay, Well, Daniels,
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: don't us I thought they started in Geelong for some read,
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: which is the one that's on High Street High Daniels
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: in the old Hungry Jet that's closed down everywhere. Yeah,
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: because there.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: Were two and there's like there was one down on
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: the Beller and Peninsula Gerally they both closed now, no.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: Way you mentioned them all the time Daniels Donuts. Correct,
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: let's go to news could favorite moves are. So it's
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: just the Geelong store that's not that's not national nationwide,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: it's just the Geelong store. Just the Geelong ones that sucks.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: I know man Daniel's Donuts in four weeks ago. Dannie's Donuts,
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: it's so populary, were going to be sold in seven
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: eleven stores across Australia. But in Geelong the landlord asked
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: for too much money and they closed down. Fucking landlords.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: The KFC is closing down in Westfield as well because
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: the landlord wants too much money. You know what's great
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: about that, though, Cheeky Chicken fucking talk about Geelong institutions right.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Cheeky Chicken right has been in Westfield since as my
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: entire life. That shop out lived, it survived KFC and
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: beat the Colonel the colonel moved in like fucking five
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: six stores down the track in the food court, and
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: they outstayed them. Yep, because what cheeky Chicken won the
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: war and fucking did mate good for that? The colonel
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: retreats in disgrace. If only Colonel Peters survived as well,
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: oh Colonial Pete, because what happened was, here's here's the
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: history of KFC in Geelong and the Geelong institutions. We
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: used to have Cheeky Chicken in Westfield, which is the
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: shopping mall, and on the streets in the hardest city
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: we had in the streets in Jokeytown, we had Colonel
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: Peter's right, which was Great Chicken, fucking great Chicken, Great
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: Colonial Peters, Colonial Peter, sorry, Colonial Piece always the Colonel's KFC,
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: and Colonial Peters was in Geelong right on the corner there.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Surely that name was no accident. And then KFC moved
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: in across the road, and I reckon. Within a year,
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: Colonial Peters was out of business, yes, And then KOC went,
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: we're gonna move to Westfield, and they moved to west
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: because I reckon, they were just trying to put out
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: cheeky Chicken night. Well, we took out the colonial peters,
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: Let's now take out the Cheeky Chicken. Motherfucker's lost. They
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: lost no beating in the Cheeky Chicken. So good on
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: Cheeky Chicken. Indeed, maybe say that the KS was I
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: never go there. I was just like, that's just sad
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: that people losing their jobs because the landlord wants too
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: much money. How about Westfield? Come on, guys, what are
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: you doing? Come on, what are you doing? I mean,
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: come on. I'm also wondering if KFC can't afford the rent,
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: how the fuck are all the other places? Yeah, anyway,
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: Cheeky Chicken, double thumbs up, you won the war. I
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: was really happy to hear that. But yeah, nuts closing down,
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: that's really sad because Nicola likes the doughnuts and they
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: do special ones that are not free and whatnot. Correct.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: I'm just sad seeing any local business close down. Nothing
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: hurt me more, I don't think than seeing Texas Hamburger's.
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, seeing Texas Hamburger closed down recently, I went, oh,
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: shit's fucked mate, Shit's fucked mate. Absolutely Mexican graffiti and
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: Texas Hamburgers went out of business. I was like what
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: do you mean? Oh yeah, what do you mean? And
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: speakers and speakers, what do you mean?
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: As I said, they are geelong whittling away slivers of
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: our soul little bit at the time, it really is
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: the speakers guy.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: But Texas Burgers especially, that was damn sad. I couldn't
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: believe it. I was like, this has to be an
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: April fulls stroke. That one. That one still shadders me.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: I'm sure everyone out there has a local business that
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: you just think, well, they've just been here forever, they'll
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: be here forever, they'll outlift me, and then one day
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: they're gone, and you go, oh, oh no.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: She long turning into a combination of junkie villain bum Town.
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: You might say, yes, jok you Town or JUNKI down.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Yes, but Marge has been sent to because she's in
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: experience and she's vulnerable. She gets sent on the beat
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: to Junkieville and Bumptown's you were saying and the Hill
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: Street Bluesteam is playing. She's walking through it. It's a
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: fun vibe, isn't it. It really is a fun vibe.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: She discovers line or Hut's burning some files and a
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: dumps and he tries to talk him, talk his way
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: if she gets I'm just saying hello, oh, hello, And
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: as she walks off, he lights the dumpstorm on fire.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: She arrives at the Quickie Mart, and Pooh thinks what
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: he knows, which I guess is in Junkie Town? Why
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Quickie Mart is? Yeah it must be. Yeah. I always
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: thought it was like I'm in a reputable neighborhood. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: because it is.
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: I think, why would you go to Yeah, it's continuity,
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: that's true. Why would you go out of the out
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: of your way to the quicki Mart which is probably
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: going to have a bit more of a market being
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: a convenience store, but it's inconvenient, but it's in junkie Town?
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: Yeah? Maybe maybe because you wouldn't leave the sector anyway.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: She goes to the Quickie Mart and then who says,
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: I know the drill, new cop. Here's the bribe one
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: hundred or two hundred, two hundred, No, no, nothing, nothing nothing.
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: So we have that moment here where he leaves it
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: on the bench, mister Burns walks past and takes it
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: because no ether of thee wants to take it both.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: I hate these moments where it depends what side of
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: your rind doesn't really matter. But someone says, oh, you're
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: twenty bucks, I don't worry about it. Now you take
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: the money. No, I don't wry just take the money. No,
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: I don't want it. An you think someone either fucking
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: say thank you and just move on or just somehow
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: end this. But I hate it though when the person goes,
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: well I was going to leave it here and you
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: have to take it, and you're like, oh, oh man,
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: now I'm going to accept this, Like it's like one
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: person has to feel like they're the bigger person. Sure, yeah,
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: I just are you someone who will always take the
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: money or I don't worry about it. I will probably
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: depends how much it is. Well that's true. Anything ever
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: a twenty, I'm like, okay, I'll take that money. It
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: was a twenty, you just get me next time. True.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: If they're good for it, you're putting a lot of
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: conditions on this.
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: I would usually be like, one time, so good, don't
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: worry about it. If they say oh please, I'm like please,
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: all right, yeah no, or no I have to say please.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: I was like, if they say one more time, okay, fine,
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: I'll take it. I'll pick you up next time.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: We then get cops. They never actually call it cops.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: Bad cops. At Skinner's house. They're quarreling over the inflatable
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: bath pillow.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I got a report on a domestic disturbance at this address.
- 1:22:46Speaker 7: Yes, indeed, there is there's an inflatable bath pillow that
- 1:22:49Speaker 7: mother and I both enjoy. She claimed it was her
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: day to use it. I maintained she was mistaken.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: We quarreled.
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: Later, as I prepared to bathe, I noticed to my
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: horror that someone had slashed the pillow.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Who called the police? Look, why don't you two settle down?
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: I'm sure you can get another pillow.
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: Well, they could send it back to Taiwan for repair,
- 1:23:12Speaker 7: but why should I have to. I've done nothing wrong,
- 1:23:15Speaker 7: and I don't give permission for my face to be
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: on TV.
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: I wanted blurred, So that's how they decided. Because they
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: didn't have the deleted scene where it pans out of
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: the TV, they changed it to this ending here. What's
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: his face blurred? It's now Marge's day off and she's
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: just laying on the couch. She wants to just relax
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: and forget that she's part of that thin blue line
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: between civilization and chaos, and she tells, but you have
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: to wear some protective gear. Buddy, you're gonna write that
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: skateboard because you've got a C nine, a Class A ninevehicle.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: But then the bullies just beat him up because it's
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: so easy on their knuckles. Who works that bad for him?
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: And these next few scenes are just trying to highlight
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: that the struggles that cops go through where they can
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: never switch off jobs. It not to have to be
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: a cop to be like this. I had a job
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: once where it was just I couldn't switch off, and
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: Nickol would say, don't worry about that right now. But
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: it's really hard to switch off when you're totally invested
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: in it, but particularly for cops, so it's like if
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: you're not on if you're not on duty, on duty,
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: you still have to feel like you're kind of on judy.
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: If someone's doing something wrong, it's like, it's my place
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: to have to do something here. But she's at the
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: salon and the women are all bantering about you know, I
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: had us magazine and heaven he said it was his turn.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: He used a bath pillow. And then missus K says,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: you can't go to the library anymore, everybody stinks, and
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: I'm like, the more I watched The Simpsons as an adult,
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: I'm like, missus k, you are my spirit animal. Very correct? Okay,
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: go the people stink and then Marge walks in. They
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: all go quiet because they're like, oh, she's a cop.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Now she's you would feel like your friends. You'd like
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: to think your friends wouldn't treat you differently, but I
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: think you just have to. I've got a friend who
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: became a cop, and once it became a cop, it's
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: almost like I didn't deliberately do it, but I subconsciously went,
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: do I have to be careful what I say around
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: in now? Because it is if I say I did
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: something illegal, is it his job to have to report me?
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: What's the well?
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: I've got a friend who had.
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: Has a friend who became a cop and said, the
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: guys did so far to the right, you've gone fascist.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Yeah, just changed just by virtue of you.
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: And I'm bad to say, not a cops, but yes,
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: it's like, yeah, our relationship really.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Changed as a result. So who knows, Maybe you become
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: a cops, he wouldn't have to be a friend anymore. Maybe,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: But she sees Moe getting his hair done, and then
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: the seat gets dropped and she thinks it's a gun
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: going she pulls her gun and yeah, just showcasing how
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: she's struggling to separate life from she's on their work now. Yeah,
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: and Homer now uses Marge's please take for the gag
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: at Flanners, which I've already discussed in great detail. Here
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: he thinks something horrible has happened to his family, but
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: Homer says full Jemmy, do you think your family is dead?
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: But they're not, though, but you thought they were? And
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: just yeah. Watching this as a fan, I guess you laugh,
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: but when you're reviewing it, you have to acknowledge that
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: this was a pretty shitty joke. Oh yes, Frank to
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: be pulled by Homer here, But people tend to cross
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: the lines sometimes anyway. So Marg's brought it to Lisa.
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: I brought Lisa to the station and she listen, and
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: here goes into full Lisa mode. Yes, yes, where she
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: says that I know your intentions are good, but isn't
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: it time we attack the roots of social problems instead
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: of just jamming people into overc out of prisons and
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: large resorts to McGriff raff the crime dog parody of mcgraff,
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: who's still to this day is I think you're still
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: around here? Is the herald, the giraffe of the crime.
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: There's the mascot to sort of say, hey, look just kids,
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: just adults. He's like, he's the mascot for saying, let's
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: let's do something about crime. Well, let's take a bite
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: out of crime. That's exactly. Yeah, it's now time for
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: the first card night at Homer's house. And I love
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: the visual of this. That's dimly lit, the cigar smoke
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: in the air, It's just it feels cool. Lenn, he's
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: got the NUDI deck. It's very well GIRs off. The
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: internet would go on line with her It's like, oh yeah,
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: that would have killed back, Yeah, definitely. Herman then sneaks
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: out to the garage. So the thing is, where does
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: he say, I'm going to the bathroom or something. He's
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: seeking out, get getting fresh air, because yeah, how was
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: how was Herman running this syndicate out of their garage? Well,
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: they're just never going to the.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Game, parking cars in the car hole. Yeah, I don't
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: get it.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: It's kind of wacky when you slide. Yeah, they're smoking
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: cube and cigars and have her brags about the perks.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: You know, he has the scanner. Marge's funeral is free,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: God forbid, and he can run back around checks on anyone. MoMA.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: So that's Moe's real name, and that is that what
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: the jack joke is here. He's got his real name
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: is MoMA. Yes, it must be if if Moe responds
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: the way he does. Yeah, and he puts the speedo
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: clock thing that's what they called the speedometer whatever it is,
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: speed gun, what they called radar gun, radar gun. That's
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: the one. Yeah on Lenny and he says, turning the
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: way they give me cance, He's going to cut the
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: two miles per hour. Then all of a sudden, what's
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: going one hundred miles per hour? AND's Lenny's fist hit
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: him in the face. That joke slaved for me when
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: I was a kid. I thought that was funny. Marge
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: now enters and she calls it, Oh my god, I
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: can't believe this is all happening in mo Lies. What
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: is your hassle for? This is you guys like Vegas?
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: Marge, you chased away all my poker buddies. Would you
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: become such a cup? Not that long ago, you were
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: so much more to me. You were a cleaner punch,
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: a sawer of buttons, and plugger of hairy clugs.
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: I'm still all.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Those things, only now I'm cleaning up the city. Someone
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: together the social fabric, and I'm plugging the clogs of
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: our legal system.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: You're cooking what for dinner?
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: Amazing? Like, I know that's a shitty thing, but it's
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: just so perfect for this episode. Margin sees everyone breaking
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: the law. Dog no leash man, littering horse, not wearing
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: a diaper, and car parked across three handicapped spaces, which
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: turns out to be Homer. He calls her he's a
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: little piglet. There are some cute news. That's not it
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: my little piglet. Then he's supposed to be working. That's good.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: I'm a working home. I don't care. I'm supposed to
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: be working too.
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: It's funny. It's it's also a little bit sad. I
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: mean not who was like, uh that he thinks they're
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: on the same page. It's like yeah, that he's He's like,
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: oh my job sucks. I'm glad. I'm glad to be
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: away from it. No, you must feel the same way
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: about your job as well. That he doesn't recognize that
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: she's really into it.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: Well does he just assumed that she he would get
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: away with it, and he's just like, oh hey, honey,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: yeah you know.
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: But for him to say I was like, no, I'm
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: meant to be working as well. So like, oh yeah,
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: we're both goofing off.
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: But he's buying beer for the boys over there. She's
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: gonna pretend you didn't hear that, So she's gonna let
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: him off. She shop, but you've got to move your car,
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: and he's like, oh, just be your second no homee.
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: You've got to move your fucking car. What are you
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: going to do about it? Takes a hat, embarrasses her
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: in front of everybody, and as we said, she had
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: to make the decision to arrest him. She he's not
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: gonna get a fine or anything cause she's going to
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: bay Hi Mountain, that kind of thing. But she had
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: to set the president in front of everybody. You do
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: this ship to a cop, you're gonna get in trouble. Correct,
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: You're gonna be out in twelve hours. So then he
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: she says, you got the right to remain silent. He
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: used to wave that right. Well, plus the other thing
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: he says, I keep an eye out for a real cop. Oh, yes,
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: he does say that. Yeah, that's real patronizing. Yeah, but
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: as we're saying earlier, though, you know you expect to
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: be let off, but you've got to still respect the
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: fact that she's got a badge on. Yeah, just just
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: move you fucking car. Just park straight. Yes, as we said,
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: exaggerating for comic effect, but still, if you're a fan
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: of everything we do here at Fourthing Discount, but you're

- 1:30:27Speaker 3: he's eating the lobster tail and raspberry tort which was
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: actually meant for mold man, and he's now that was
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: his last meal. From now on, no talking, and he
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: gets led away to be executed. Cut back to them
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: at home and lights flick, as were saying, Marge apologizes,
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: and he draws the line down and has he not
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: just like I love Lucy. This is my half of
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: the houses. You're half realized that he has himself into
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: a corner until literally painting himself into a corner. Now
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: it's time for cards again, and Home is sat now
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: saying because his first time of playing cards is Braiker,
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: I was so great, much being a copy of all
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: the perks. Now it's I thought it'd be fun like
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: that movie Spaceballs. It turns out it's disturbing like that
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: movie Academy. And Barney is worried about the beer supply,
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: and this is just the way to get home and
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: to go out to the garage, because he says, yeah, yeah, Bunny,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: you're right, I guess they're quiet down everybody. I'll go
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: check on the beer supply down the garage.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: Wonder we are you so eager to go to the garage.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: The garage he found us the garage, Well, ooh, ladd,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: mister frenchman.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Well, what do you call it a car hold?
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: It's now revealed here that that Herman is selling counterfeit
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: jeans out of their garage. Garage, garage, however you want
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: to say it where no one will suspected thing a
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: cops garage and Homie comes out to sea. What's so
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: funny what he guys are laughing about? Oh my god,
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: exactly put it straight away. I think a couple of
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: times here they were really taking the mickey out of
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: cop show. So I think there that was a genuine
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: effort to take the mickey out of a cop showers
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: to say, how would I even notice? It's just to
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: keep the story flowing. And they do it again at
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: the end, which will touch on when we get there.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: But you think it's in big trouble because he says,
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: not so fast, and we're trying to get away. I'm
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: going to tell everybody not so fast, slows down. It's
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: just a funny visual. So he said, perhaps you should
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: just probably stop now. This is what Homosode pleased rohim.
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: How can we doing this?
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Well?
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: I trusted you, Herman. What about the victims of all this,
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: the hard working designers like Calvin Kleine Vanderbilt and adds
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: to one Bigger Boy. These are the people who saw
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: an overcrowded market and said me too. Bigger Boy apparently
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: declared for bankruptcy in two thousand and one. Poor big Boy,
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: Poor old bugle boy. And they're about to advance on him,
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: but Marge arrives. Door opens conveniently, and they think it's
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: Vanderbilt back for revenge. But Homer sacrifices himself here. He
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: actually does the good thing here. He actually sacrificed himself.
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: He said, no, take me, so he takes him. Save
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: the jeans and live like a queen. He takes him away,
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: and she's looking for them everywhere. Millhouse comes out at night,
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: but I'm able to play Grandpa's taking make it for
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: that's a yes. Yeah. And the Halloween decoration she shoots it.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: This literally is what it's like when you're trying to
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: drive a car and the kids in the back seat
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: just distractions. For the sake of distractions. You think all
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: you have to do is sit there, be quiet. Oh yeah,
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: just chill. We talked about this when we did that
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: Bob's Pods episode. I'm standing on a ladder. I feel
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: I shouldn't have to say this. Yes, your job with
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: Bob's Pops. Check it out. It's a new podcast exclos
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: me on the Patreon reviewing every episode of Bob's Burgers.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: But kids, your job is to fucking do nothing. There's
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: nothing easier to do in this world than nothing. Why
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: are you doing something? One of these days these kids
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: will learn the value of doing nothing. Yes, kids, then
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: start cheering it wrong because she's climbing the treehouse ladder.
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: They're seeing it from the bil from the bedroom. She
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: doesn't go back to bed, and then we get herman
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: with the catch phrase your wife is in bucking up
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: the wrong tree and she uses the secret entrance, fooling herman,
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: making him fall over. Hammer apologizes for everything teasing, but
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: apologize for teasing her and says he's proud of her.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: She's a great cop. Herman tries to escape and her
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: immediately turns in it you blew it much, and she says, nah,
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: not so fast. He's not going to work because his
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: own shorty merchandise sucks up. Ripped it the seams. Yep.
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: I did like the term of go cash the five
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: a one because leave by five oh one jeans then
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: the cops and the ambos arrive and Grandpa's now, I
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: call this ambulance four hours ago. This is my ambulance.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: And Homer asked Marge, how did she know? Now this
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: is the joke I was talking about, because she says
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: why the pants are ripped? No, no, I was talking about.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: I saw this as their way of saying, how did
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: you know that this was happening in the game? How
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: did you know to arrive at that point in time
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: it was convenient for the story? How many times do
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: you watch cop shows when you think, how did the
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: cop possibly know to be there in that moment?
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: But she explains why she knew that the pants would rip,
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: because she is being a mother, a fat husband, dodgy stitching,
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: will seated husband please, well seated husband. Yes. But this
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: is where Wigham, unfortunately says, you know, good job, Marge,
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: but there's no evidence, so we can't nail him. She's like,
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: what do you mean? Well, he says, Homes says, the
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: whole garage full. Now it's gone missing, and they're all
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: wearing them now, looking good bys. So Marge she's had
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: enough of all their corruption and she quits. They all
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: laugh at her again, but they say so to Locy
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: Simpson and we cut back to the guys playing cards
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: because I'm I'm glad that's how it ends. I think
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: this is a great way to end this episode. Something funny, right,
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: But these guys are playing cards. Herman fucked off to
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: the garage. Homen went looking for him and they never
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: came back. I'm looking at his card. Screw I fold.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: These guys are sitting there going what the hell's happening?
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: Agreed to the story, agreed into the episode. Yeah, a
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: really fun episode. Again, like not not a laugh out
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: loud laugh per second kind of episode. It's not meant
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: to be. Having said that, going through it the way
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: these ones more, I think, Yeah, there were a lot
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: of good gigs in this There were a lot of
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: good gags. I think as personal preference, I prefer these
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: episodes over the ones that are just funny funny, funny,
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: funny funny, because these ones give you time to breathe sure,
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: taking things, think about stuff, and they tackle serious issues.
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: And this one here is sexism and the perception of
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: the police force, perception of women in the workforce, that
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: kind of thing. So I think this was a one
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: of the top Marge episodes. You're ever going to get
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: oh yeah, yeah, because Margin never comes out looking bad
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: at any of this, does she Oh no, because this
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: is an absolute hero because she joins in her terms
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: and she quits on her terms, because you have to
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: get back to the status stove, but stay star to herself.
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: But her quitting gets back to the status quoe. But
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: it's also a justification in herself saying I joined this
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: police force for the right reasons. You guys aren't doing
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: it for the right reasons. You're using it to your advantage,
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: get corruption and whatnot. I'm getting out, that's right. Yeah.
