- 0:04Speaker 1: There's blur and girls and boys talking to girls and boys.
- 0:09Speaker 1: We've got girls and boys in the studio. We got
- 0:11Speaker 1: Heavy Are You Very Daily? And we got Elis, from
- 0:15Speaker 1: which the bubble town fa VARs when there's two thousand
- 0:19Speaker 1: and five. How does that sound? Yeah, I can remember
- 0:24Speaker 1: it in two thousand and five. He got town on it.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's going back. That's another story. That's
- 0:29Speaker 1: another story. Yeah, tell us about the day then, Elis
- 0:34Speaker 1: that What an incredible day.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm still in sort of still doesn't feel real. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: don't I don't know how to explain it. I feel
- 0:42Speaker 2: like I'm in a little bit of a bubble about it. Still.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Its crazy, it's crazy.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I mean obviously we were there from the start. We
- 0:49Speaker 1: got to Wembley about half past eleven to set up
- 0:53Speaker 1: for the radio show and tell us a little bit
- 0:56Speaker 1: about you getting to Wembley and how you know your
- 0:59Speaker 1: journey to the stadium and.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, So we went up on the Saturday. So
- 1:04Speaker 2: we went up the day before, which was really nice,
- 1:06Speaker 2: sort of spread it out a little bit and we
- 1:08Speaker 2: actually had a tour of Wembley the day before. I
- 1:10Speaker 2: did see these Yeah, you got to go in the
- 1:13Speaker 2: changing room sort of bring all the kit in, which
- 1:14Speaker 2: was quite nice, so we didn't have to rush to
- 1:16Speaker 2: it in the morning. But yeah, no, so we got
- 1:19Speaker 2: there on Saturday. We had a tour round, we all
- 1:21Speaker 2: walked out together, we took loads of pictures, sort of
- 1:23Speaker 2: soaked up a little bit before sort of Sunday, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: then Sunday morning. It was an early start because it
- 1:28Speaker 2: was a twelve to fifteen kickoff.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You tell us about it. I think we left there
- 1:31Speaker 1: just after eight.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think we I think we actually got
- 1:35Speaker 2: to the stadium at half ten, so it was an
- 1:37Speaker 2: early start for everyone. We were sort of at breakfast
- 1:40Speaker 2: at eight. Everyone was like fueling themselves. Everyone was bricking
- 1:44Speaker 2: as well as you can imagine. Everyone was really talking
- 1:46Speaker 2: to each other, but everyone was buzzing at the same time.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And then yeah, we it's strange because you you want
- 1:52Speaker 2: to just walk to Wembley because from the hotel you
- 1:54Speaker 2: can just see it. I've got to get in the
- 1:56Speaker 2: bus and drive under Wembley and it's amazing an experience.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And I was like, I don't think we're going to
- 2:02Speaker 2: get this again. Touch what I do, but there's once
- 2:05Speaker 2: in a lifetime and when we got there, we sort
- 2:06Speaker 2: of went in the change room. All of the players
- 2:09Speaker 2: tops are up with their names and they've got their
- 2:12Speaker 2: their sort of plaques with their sponsors and their photos
- 2:14Speaker 2: and messages from families, which was really really nice. And
- 2:18Speaker 2: then it was like, oh my god, like that's going
- 2:19Speaker 2: to see the pitch on game day and there was
- 2:21Speaker 2: already sort of people starting to come in and it
- 2:25Speaker 2: was like this is this is massive. Like you don't
- 2:27Speaker 2: realize until you walk out on the pitch and you
- 2:29Speaker 2: see that there's people already arrive in that sort of
- 2:32Speaker 2: quarter to eleven. We've got a long time to wait
- 2:34Speaker 2: until a kickoff, and they're albody there sort of getting
- 2:37Speaker 2: ready for the warm up. Go out for the warm up,
- 2:39Speaker 2: and there was probably two thousand people already there for
- 2:43Speaker 2: the warm up and it was really really nice. And
- 2:45Speaker 2: I did a little sneaky run over and spoke to
- 2:47Speaker 2: my family.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And that's what it's all about, isn't it.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just it's a once in a lifetime
- 2:54Speaker 2: and I still can't believe that I've sort of had it.
- 2:56Speaker 2: It's amazing And.
- 2:57Speaker 3: It all stems from you right into football club, isn't it? Placement?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:02Speaker 3: And Whitstable replied, So it just shows you that, you know,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you've just got to try these things, you just.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Got to put yourself out there. Yeah, sending that one
- 3:10Speaker 2: emails made my career.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Well. Yeah, I mean, like you say, you've had the
- 3:15Speaker 1: experience of going to Wembley, which you would probably never
- 3:18Speaker 1: have had if you hadn't.
- 3:20Speaker 2: No, no, exactly that everything happens for.
- 3:23Speaker 1: A reason, exactly. There is one thing I would like
- 3:26Speaker 1: to ask you when you get to Wembley. I'm gonviously
- 3:28Speaker 1: see Wembley's normally two teams play at Wembley, but of
- 3:32Speaker 1: course on this particular day there was four teams playing.
- 3:35Speaker 1: How does the changing rooms work?
- 3:37Speaker 2: So there's four change Well, as far as I'm well,
- 3:39Speaker 2: there's four changing rooms so much.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So we didn't know that, Yeah, because I thought, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: the fa vas is over, Whitstable and white have to
- 3:49Speaker 1: get out quick.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so there is four changing rooms. So all Just
- 3:54Speaker 2: and Spending Moore had changing rooms one and two, and
- 3:56Speaker 2: then White Leaf had room three and we had four
- 4:01Speaker 2: so technically had like the worst one, but it was amazing.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I thought it was great. I'd love to have that
- 4:06Speaker 2: change room every week.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I saw the pictures inside. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you've got the Whitstable town named him on the floor
- 4:13Speaker 1: and yeah, it a bit surreal, isn't it. I mean,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you're non league club. You don't ever expect. You hope
- 4:19Speaker 1: to get to Wembley, but you never expect to get
- 4:22Speaker 1: to Wembley. I mean, I've been there for the last
- 4:26Speaker 1: six or seven non league Day finals and this was
- 4:29Speaker 1: the second one I commentated on. But I could honestly
- 4:32Speaker 1: say the two sets of supporters for the FA VARs,
- 4:36Speaker 1: there were so many people it was unbelievable. I mean
- 4:38Speaker 1: I looked over and one whole section was just red
- 4:43Speaker 1: and the other whole art of section was green. Yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and from where were obviously you could see from the bench. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: we got a little bit better of you probably, but
- 4:53Speaker 1: I've never seen any thing. I mean, it just looked amazing,
- 4:57Speaker 1: And yeah, both sets of supporters did their their club's proud.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Definitely. I think Whitstable must have been empty. I think
- 5:03Speaker 2: everyone who lives in Whitstable was at Wembley normally.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I mean I think you had like four or five
- 5:09Speaker 1: sections normally one, two, two and a half if you
- 5:15Speaker 1: were lucky.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Really, I think I was just speaking to the board
- 5:19Speaker 2: the other day, and I think they said they sold
- 5:20Speaker 2: nearly nine thousand tickets in the whitsible section.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I was very surprised at the official attendance because I
- 5:27Speaker 1: think they gave it about thirty six thousand.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was thirty six.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it looked ten thousand. Well we've rounded it up.
- 5:35Speaker 1: We said ten thousand Whitstable, probably six and a half thousand,
- 5:40Speaker 1: seven thousand White Leaf, about eight thousand. Spending more, we
- 5:46Speaker 1: said about sixteen twenty thousand older shots. So where they
- 5:50Speaker 1: got that figure from, I really don't know, but it looked. Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 1: as you say, it.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Was an amazing turn out, and I'm so I'm really
- 5:59Speaker 2: toughed with the boys as they were loving it. They
- 6:00Speaker 2: were running up and down, so waving them on it was.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It was great tearing up the crowd the shirts.
- 6:06Speaker 3: When they went up on.
- 6:07Speaker 2: The I'm not actually sure, but I did one of.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Them turn around. I thought, yeah, I'm not sure who
- 6:15Speaker 3: it was.
- 6:16Speaker 2: But by the time we'd sort of all like, once
- 6:18Speaker 2: the final whistle blew, everyone just ran ran towards the vans,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and by the time I got over there, I was thinking,
- 6:25Speaker 2: on a minute, you've got your shirt on the wrong
- 6:26Speaker 2: way around. You know, you're just like, what's going on? It?
- 6:29Speaker 2: So I don't know who started it. It's a real really.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The first half, I mean went down. They scored a really,
- 6:38Speaker 1: really good goal fifteen to twenty minutes in.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was going to be a long
- 6:42Speaker 2: game when that went in, But it was a long
- 6:44Speaker 2: game for the right reasons. Instead.
- 6:47Speaker 1: The player that came off at halftime was what was his.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Name, Connor Wilkins.
- 6:51Speaker 1: No, he was there. If he hadn't been substituted or injured,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I think he might have. He was going around. He
- 6:57Speaker 1: was like a headless chicken, but he likes to run.
- 6:59Speaker 1: He was like running. He was making some challenges. Share
- 7:02Speaker 1: we say that we're exactly yeah, a bit borderliner, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: I think you know, if you're listening, yeah, I'm sure
- 7:10Speaker 1: you're a good player. But I think on the day,
- 7:13Speaker 1: him coming off at halftime changed everything.
- 7:16Speaker 2: With the whole game change.
- 7:18Speaker 1: The whole game change, I think we were just talking off.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I mean the gentleman that came on, Yeah thirty two,
- 7:24Speaker 1: did you say that? Yeah?
- 7:25Speaker 2: I think he's thirty one, thirty two and he.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Was running like a teenager. And that's a big pitch. Ware.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He didn't leave anything like, he left everything on the pitch.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Nothing was in the changing room.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I mean, that's what you gotta do, isn't it. Wembley.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You just can't. You might not ever get to play
- 7:41Speaker 1: there again, so you know, so.
- 7:43Speaker 2: He really left everything on the pitch, which is great.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Right, we're gonna it would just be a talk show
- 7:48Speaker 1: otherwise we'll stick another one on. This is probably a
- 7:50Speaker 1: bit of a football one. I suppose they played this
- 7:53Speaker 1: at the the Euros and the World Cups. And this
- 7:57Speaker 1: is Garla and this one is Freed from Desire nineteen
- 8:00Speaker 1: ninety six. I didn't think it was that far away.
- 8:02Speaker 1: After that, we'll be back with some more Wembley info.
- 8:19Speaker 3: My money.
- 8:31Speaker 1: There you go, GIRLA Freed from Desire. That's a good
- 8:35Speaker 1: chink if you like someone.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so it always reminds me. You just click
- 8:38Speaker 3: on YouTube and you see England supporters jumping up and
- 8:41Speaker 3: down like teenagers, don't you know.
- 8:43Speaker 1: When they finally win the game?
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah it's now. You were back in Whitstable and I'm
- 8:50Speaker 3: sure I saw you on the top of the bus,
- 8:53Speaker 3: right he did, so, I mean runners through that. Where
- 8:58Speaker 3: where did you start from from the football club.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yes, that that was really Yeah. That was an amazing
- 9:04Speaker 2: day as well. So it was quite an early start.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I think we were on the bus by about half nine,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and it started in the Harbor, and then we got
- 9:13Speaker 2: some oysters in Harbor.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I saw some some of the local oyster suppliers were
- 9:19Speaker 3: at the ground, weren't they.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So we had some oysters in the Harbor,
- 9:23Speaker 2: got on the bus and then we drove from the
- 9:27Speaker 2: Harbor all the way down sort of like the main
- 9:29Speaker 2: high street back to the club with the with the
- 9:31Speaker 2: cup hanging off the side of the bus. It was
- 9:33Speaker 2: making a little bit nervous. It was just amazing.
- 9:36Speaker 3: And so what was it turn out like?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Then?
- 9:38Speaker 2: So many people? Were so many people? Yeah, there was
- 9:40Speaker 2: people hanging out of their bedroom windows, people standing on the roofs.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It was. It was crazy, really really crazy. But you'd
- 9:46Speaker 2: think like ten o'clock in the morning and it wasn't
- 9:49Speaker 2: It wasn't the greatest all weather. It was dry, but
- 9:51Speaker 2: it was really overcast. I thought, did you really quiet?
- 9:55Speaker 3: Did you think the town would turn out for you?
- 9:58Speaker 2: I didn't expect that many people. I thought there were
- 10:00Speaker 2: be people there because everyone's sort of everyone came to Wembley,
- 10:03Speaker 2: so everyone wants to celebrate, but the amount of people
- 10:05Speaker 2: that were there was just it was just crazy. It's
- 10:08Speaker 2: so surreal. The support behind the club is unbelievable.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Was this pre planned? Did you have a plan A
- 10:15Speaker 1: or B if if you won it, was it planned
- 10:17Speaker 1: that you would go on there?
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm not actually sure. There was always going to be
- 10:21Speaker 2: something on the Saturday because it was player's presentation, so
- 10:23Speaker 2: it was always going to be that people could sort
- 10:25Speaker 2: of come to the club, get their atographs, get their
- 10:27Speaker 2: pictures and things like that. But I think the bus
- 10:29Speaker 2: was I was like, oh my god, there's a bus,
- 10:31Speaker 2: Like that's crazy.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 2: No, I think the bus was sort of maybe it
- 10:35Speaker 2: was in the works and they didn't tell anyone. I
- 10:37Speaker 2: didn't know about it until about a week until probably
- 10:39Speaker 2: the Monday. Afterwards.
- 10:41Speaker 3: We took a book and put a deposit as long
- 10:43Speaker 3: as it could do back just in case we lose it.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, but I genuinely think if we'd lost it would
- 10:48Speaker 2: have been the same turnout because the whole, the whole
- 10:51Speaker 2: of the support of the community together, the whole of
- 10:53Speaker 2: Whisbell was behind the club and it's really really nice.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So I've never experienced that before.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And I did see on social somebody said that we
- 11:01Speaker 3: really need to get out of this league, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 3: and they were so close to it this year. Yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 3: So the thing is getting supporters through the gate. That's
- 11:08Speaker 3: the main thing, isn't it. Definitely getting people down there
- 11:12Speaker 3: on every Saturday t.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we do normally have quite a good attendance. It's
- 11:15Speaker 2: quite well attended sort of home games, definitely, but it
- 11:19Speaker 2: would be it would be really nice to get out
- 11:20Speaker 2: of the league and drive something higher.
- 11:23Speaker 1: For those of you who are listening and don't don't
- 11:26Speaker 1: know what happened to Wit in the league. They got
- 11:28Speaker 1: to the playoffs and they played Fisher and they finished second,
- 11:35Speaker 1: finished second in the league, third in the league, so
- 11:39Speaker 1: that meant they had a home playoff tie against a
- 11:41Speaker 1: team that finished fifth. I think it was I think
- 11:44Speaker 1: which was which was Fisher, which all took the lead,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Fisher equalized, nobody could get a winner an extra time
- 11:52Speaker 1: and it went to penalties, and unfortunately the dreaded shoot
- 11:54Speaker 1: out Fisher got through and it was horrible. I couldn't
- 11:58Speaker 1: really imagine, you know, just for Wembley as well, imagine
- 12:01Speaker 1: that was a bit of a down.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, obviously playoffs, didn't know how he wanted,
- 12:05Speaker 2: and we also had the Kent Senior Cup that didn't
- 12:07Speaker 2: know how he wanted.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Cool share you had a cup fine as well, didn't you.
- 12:10Speaker 2: But I think it was nice to sort of. I
- 12:13Speaker 2: think personally I'd take Wembley over them three. Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it was nice for you to actually get something
- 12:21Speaker 1: after a hard season where you you know, you could
- 12:23Speaker 1: do the Treble, you know, definitely league promotion, as you said,
- 12:28Speaker 1: the Kent Cup and trip to Wembley with a sort of.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Distracted by Wembley coming up. It was nice to It's
- 12:37Speaker 2: nice to do that.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You wouldn't be human if you didn't. Going on now,
- 12:42Speaker 1: which will you be there next season.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Or yes, you are staying? I can't leave after this
- 12:48Speaker 2: can iod? Wembley are coming for me? England?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Oh brilliant as much most of this, I mean, I
- 13:00Speaker 1: know it's just only just quite fresh, but most of
- 13:03Speaker 1: the players staying for next.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Year that you know, I'm not actually sure yet. I
- 13:06Speaker 2: don't know. I've been left in the dark, just.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Just the physio, no scoops there.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Then I know we've kept. The goalkeeper is definitely staying.
- 13:16Speaker 1: He had a blinder.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he did.
- 13:18Speaker 1: He had a great Yeah. Yeah, I mean back in
- 13:21Speaker 1: the day, I used to playing goals, so I am
- 13:24Speaker 1: a bit mad obviously never to that extended obviously, but
- 13:29Speaker 1: some of it saves he was making. It was.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He had a great game. He did have a great game.
- 13:34Speaker 1: He could do nothing about the goal, but yeah, he
- 13:37Speaker 1: he did make some good saves.
- 13:39Speaker 3: There were three good goals. Actually they were the goal
- 13:43Speaker 3: he really worked hard for it, didn't he And then
- 13:45Speaker 3: he just saw his spot, and then both teams at
- 13:48Speaker 3: the post and you at the bar. Yeah, it was.
- 13:51Speaker 3: It was. If he was a neutral watching it, you
- 13:54Speaker 3: would have had It was.
- 13:55Speaker 2: A great game. It was a really great game.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean normally go to it. I mean, as
- 13:59Speaker 1: I said, I've been last seven eight years and see
- 14:02Speaker 1: the finals and they're not they're very cagey. No team
- 14:05Speaker 1: wants to lose. Both teams went out there and both
- 14:09Speaker 1: wanted to win. They didn't there was no fear of losing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I think they just both of them wanted to win,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and it made for a good game.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Definitely, it was a great Both sides wanted it, like
- 14:19Speaker 2: you're saying it was. It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And I haven't believed that. Honestly, Elis. I was on
- 14:23Speaker 3: holiday in Cyprus and we was trawling through making sure
- 14:27Speaker 3: that we listened to the commentary, and then we found
- 14:31Speaker 3: out it was being televised on TV.
- 14:34Speaker 1: That annoyed us.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So we I mean, my partner, so she loves football
- 14:39Speaker 3: as well and she knows all the Kent clubs and
- 14:42Speaker 3: we had a fantastic afternoon just thousands of miles away
- 14:46Speaker 3: in the sun watching it. It was great, really great,
- 14:48Speaker 3: and it felt like because because we do this show,
- 14:53Speaker 3: aid because we do the show and we're loyal to everybody,
- 14:57Speaker 3: mainly if you like, around Folkston, but just real we've
- 15:00Speaker 3: been spreading their wings talking about mate Stone Margate and
- 15:04Speaker 3: to think that I was all those miles away and
- 15:07Speaker 3: a club that we've been talking about on this show
- 15:09Speaker 3: went to Wembley and yourself of course, and listening to
- 15:14Speaker 3: Adrian commentating it was brought a little tear to.
- 15:17Speaker 1: My Oh, you know you talk about people listening in
- 15:22Speaker 1: us from Cypress. I promoted the game as much as
- 15:26Speaker 1: I could because up until the I think it was
- 15:28Speaker 1: the Friday, it wasn't even going to be screened live
- 15:30Speaker 1: on TV.
- 15:31Speaker 2: No, it was really last minute it was really last
- 15:33Speaker 2: minute decision that there was going to be sort of
- 15:35Speaker 2: yeah broadcasted. It was crazy, yeah.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And we I was obviously promoting as much as I
- 15:40Speaker 1: possibly could on Whitstable Town and I know you shared
- 15:43Speaker 1: it as well and AFC White Leaf as well, and
- 15:47Speaker 1: we got absolutely fantastic listening figures. We got people in
- 15:50Speaker 1: from Mexico, from America also, thank you know, we all
- 15:57Speaker 1: through and through we were born. There went some of them.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Some of them couldn't get the TV coverage, so they
- 16:04Speaker 1: obviously believable. Anyway they could listen to. It was fire us.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And you know our listening figures for Wembly were the
- 16:12Speaker 1: best of the season for US.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's amazing goosebumps.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And we normally cover folks in Victor and Whitstable Town.
- 16:24Speaker 1: That was fantastic. Yeah. As I say, people from all
- 16:27Speaker 1: over all over the world, Norway as well. I'm trying
- 16:30Speaker 1: to think of all Spain, Norway, Mexico, America, Australia, New
- 16:35Speaker 1: Zealand and Cyprus and CYPRESSSS.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Selling Adrian earlier. We were sitting in front of the
- 16:43Speaker 3: Telly in Cyprus and we were I was listening with
- 16:47Speaker 3: my headphones on to Adrian and we had the Telly
- 16:51Speaker 3: on and there was a three minute twenty second delay
- 16:54Speaker 3: Adrian's commentary and the T and T commentary, and I
- 16:59Speaker 3: was listening when the first White Leaf Girl winning. Of course,
- 17:03Speaker 3: Sue was watching the Telly. She was three minutes twenty behind.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And I'm going to keep me quiet, not let on.
- 17:12Speaker 3: But yeah, now, technology, even if it was three minutes
- 17:15Speaker 3: twenty seconds behind, was amazing, you know.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I mean our normal broadcast when we do it on
- 17:19Speaker 1: a Saturday locally, we're about ten twelve seconds behind, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: from being live to it actually going out. So that's quite.
- 17:31Speaker 3: When even when you're at folksing a victor, you're sitting
- 17:33Speaker 3: in the stand. And we used to think I was
- 17:35Speaker 3: in the PA box thinking, oh we listened to Adrian
- 17:38Speaker 3: commentating while we're watching the game. But that's twelve seconds
- 17:41Speaker 3: just froze you, right, yeah, completely, yeah, so yeah, to
- 17:44Speaker 3: switch you off.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I'm sure most people do. Anyway. Okay, it's been another tune.
- 17:52Speaker 1: This one's four must be for you. It is four
- 17:56Speaker 1: weeks today, Me and the lovely Samantha, and we'll be
- 17:59Speaker 1: walking up the aisle and so I'm going to play
- 18:02Speaker 1: this one for her and tonight. It's a stack of
- 18:05Speaker 1: a hen night. But this one is for you, Sam.
- 18:09Speaker 1: This one is Billy Idol, and I hope you'll be
- 18:11Speaker 1: wearing white. This is white wedding. Start again, Start again there,
- 18:43Speaker 1: Billy Idol, white wedding, four weeks today, Sam, make sure
- 18:47Speaker 1: you've got that wedding dress on. Will she turn up?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I think she probably will.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I don't know. I thought she'd booked a holiday with
- 18:56Speaker 3: the widow.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he's got her hen night tonight. So if you're
- 19:01Speaker 1: in Canterbury this evening, watch out, watch out for a
- 19:05Speaker 1: load of mad women wearing stupid clothing. She's actually going
- 19:10Speaker 1: axe throwing. Would you believe ax throwing and crazy golf
- 19:14Speaker 1: not the same time.
- 19:16Speaker 2: That sounds a little bit dangerous.
- 19:17Speaker 1: She got an email saying through please make sure that
- 19:20Speaker 1: you wear shoes that are covered. I'll say no more.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Good luck, Good luck Canterbury. That's what I say.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Give Canterbury a wide berth this evening throwing.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Then, yeah, her eye hand coordination is not the best
- 19:36Speaker 1: that even when she's sober, so yeah it could be
- 19:39Speaker 1: interested in this evening. I think she's going out for
- 19:41Speaker 1: a meal this afternoon with all the other the sensible one.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Anyway, Ellis I just want to ask you, like on
- 19:50Speaker 3: a Sunday night after the game? Yeah, I mean on
- 19:54Speaker 3: the coach. What was that like going home?
- 19:55Speaker 2: I didn't actually get the coach home. That's really bad,
- 19:58Speaker 2: isn't it. We all went out in Convent Guard and
- 20:00Speaker 2: I ended up on the train.
- 20:02Speaker 3: That was the other thing I was going to ask you.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Did you all go out after the match?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think majority it was not. Everyone was there.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Sort of people went off with their families and did
- 20:12Speaker 2: things with their families, but most of the team we
- 20:15Speaker 2: went and had a little drink in Covent Garden, which
- 20:16Speaker 2: was quite nice.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Did you rating Did you fill the cup up?
- 20:20Speaker 2: No? We were allowed to take the cup with us,
- 20:22Speaker 2: unfortunately to Covent Garden. It has it's got a special box.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I've actually I've actually held that trophy. Yeah, two thousand
- 20:30Speaker 1: and five when I lived in Dick two Cup town
- 20:33Speaker 1: when it the AFC Subbury three two in the final
- 20:37Speaker 1: and they had the open top bus tour as well,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and it chucked it down. Yeah, there was a bit
- 20:44Speaker 1: of a dam. Yeah.
- 20:46Speaker 2: They filled the cup up with rain.
- 20:48Speaker 1: They filled it up with a lot more than that.
- 20:51Speaker 3: My claims to find for fo bars is. I did
- 20:54Speaker 3: go to to Wembley to watch Deal win the cup.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Yeah we were actually I was playing down at High
- 21:01Speaker 3: at the time and I've got a bus up. That's
- 21:04Speaker 3: a good and how it was the Kent League and
- 21:09Speaker 3: it was a very competitive league, but the clubs were
- 21:11Speaker 3: really tight knit, you know.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I used to do supporting each other.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've got a bus and it broke down
- 21:17Speaker 3: to beare a mile from Wembley to walk there, last mile,
- 21:21Speaker 3: but we got there. Yeah, and there was a great day. Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: It's nice that all of sort of the sides get
- 21:27Speaker 2: behind everyone same this this sort this round, all of
- 21:30Speaker 2: the clubs have been behind its sport. Whi's been great.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been seven eight years now and there's not
- 21:36Speaker 1: been the Kent club in the final it went on,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know, I was watching the rounds and there was
- 21:42Speaker 1: a few Kent clubs clubs in the latter stages. And
- 21:45Speaker 1: then when Whitstaball's got to the semi finals, thinking, I
- 21:49Speaker 1: mean the team you played some universities.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Pre university, where's sat Gloucester?
- 21:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's up in Gloucester. And I do believe that
- 21:59Speaker 3: Stuart has got a connection. I think his son might
- 22:01Speaker 3: have been playing or he was at the university.
- 22:04Speaker 1: All right, because he was at Wembley as well.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah he was.
- 22:07Speaker 1: He was giving all the interviews every time you looked
- 22:10Speaker 1: at the school.
- 22:10Speaker 3: But he come to Sorry didn't he come to Whitstable Ground.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah, he did a sort of like a video.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah was it appending a Cross Pol challenge or something?
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he came and they did some filming
- 22:21Speaker 2: before before Wembley.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, because of course he had Yeah Wilson,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I think, yeah, he's and he's he never never forgot
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know where he started from, so you can't if
- 22:35Speaker 1: you're a footballer, you know, you go on. Jamie Varley
- 22:38Speaker 1: is another one that started off at the bottom play
- 22:40Speaker 1: for England as well, so you know there's there is
- 22:43Speaker 1: hope for all these players out there.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 1: So going forward Whitstable Town, what does the future hold
- 22:50Speaker 1: for Ellie and Whitstable You're you're there next season?
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to stay for the next season, definitely.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I don't know ether eventually I'll go back to union
- 22:59Speaker 2: and doing of of course, but that's it's a decision for.
- 23:02Speaker 3: The universe to finish it. Winding up now.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think I have like two weeks left
- 23:06Speaker 2: and I'm done.
- 23:07Speaker 3: You have a degree, so basically your placement at Whitstable
- 23:10Speaker 3: will be over.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're going to carry on going.
- 23:13Speaker 3: You're going to carry on.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, there's something special there. I don't want to
- 23:16Speaker 2: lose that.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's nice, isn't it. I mean that's great
- 23:21Speaker 1: to hear. I'm you know, I do really hope Whitstable
- 23:24Speaker 1: Town get out of that league next season, because you know,
- 23:28Speaker 1: it's not good being in the lower leagues, especially now
- 23:31Speaker 1: you've won a major trophy. I mean, you know, I
- 23:34Speaker 1: don't know how many teams entered it at the start
- 23:36Speaker 1: and you come out on top.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I think there was nearly six hundred teams.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That's a lot of teams. Yeah, and you're number one.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That's crazy. That's a crazy crazy money.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I won't sorry, but it did look pretty good. Yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 3: it wasn't just about the final. All the way through
- 23:50Speaker 3: the bars and the trophy, you folks them were playing,
- 23:53Speaker 3: I would always look up and see how much how
- 23:55Speaker 3: much they want, and obviously to win the final, it
- 23:58Speaker 3: was a fair Oh wha. So I'm sure that the
- 24:00Speaker 3: club has been that wisely.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you're coming to you, so I'm sure.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I think you know, h cap football is definitely on
- 24:10Speaker 1: the app at the moment. I mean, unfortunately majors in
- 24:13Speaker 1: the United didn't quite make it up to the National League.
- 24:16Speaker 1: They lost their playoff to your old boy team.
- 24:19Speaker 3: To be fair, I was born and bred in bouring
- 24:21Speaker 3: Wood and I was just biting my nails that because
- 24:26Speaker 3: they're both yo yo teams actually would have both been
- 24:29Speaker 3: up there, both come down. So it was a tough cool,
- 24:31Speaker 3: especially with mates don't being just up the road. But yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 3: it was the one nil out and out no penalties,
- 24:37Speaker 3: so it was clear cut and that is harsh. But
- 24:41Speaker 3: everybody knows that at the start of the season, don't they,
- 24:45Speaker 3: And and you know, to be fair, I know they're
- 24:47Speaker 3: not your favorite team, but Dover have gone up. But
- 24:51Speaker 3: there's going to be a lot of Kent Darby's next
- 24:54Speaker 3: year in the Eastman Premier League, isn't there.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I think we've got six yeah, I saw the other day.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I can say something.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, because Rams have gone into it as well.
- 25:04Speaker 1: They've lost them mister Joe Taylor, so.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Not quite he's gone to church, isn't it.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's a big jump. To two divisions. Whether
- 25:13Speaker 1: or not you at thirty two will be able to
- 25:16Speaker 1: have the same impact as he had at Rams, I
- 25:18Speaker 1: don't know, but quality player. He always scores goals wherever
- 25:22Speaker 1: he's been, so I think I want to watch definitely,
- 25:26Speaker 1: And normally we get horn Church well, folks. Then players
- 25:31Speaker 1: go to horn Church eventually get injured and then they
- 25:34Speaker 1: come back to us. So maybe might come back. Yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 1: January Febry time. He might be at General Road. I'm
- 25:41Speaker 1: loan until the end of the season. But how good luck, Joe,
- 25:45Speaker 1: hope you make it there. As we say, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 1: Matston didn't quite make it. I had. I inquired about
- 25:53Speaker 1: covering the game for Seaside's radio born Wood and Wood
- 25:56Speaker 1: got back to be the same. Unfortunately the press box
- 25:59Speaker 1: is full for that game. Were unable to accommodate you.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So yeah, I asked we would have commentated on the
- 26:07Speaker 1: final of that as well. Well, that's well, sticking to
- 26:10Speaker 1: tune on them while we're at it. We've only got
- 26:13Speaker 1: to blimey, seventeen minutes left. Blimey, where that's the time going?
- 26:17Speaker 1: And this is an one for you, Sam. This is
- 26:20Speaker 1: going to be a night to remember, hopefully, but not
- 26:23Speaker 1: for Canterbury. Probably I don't know about a night to remember,
- 26:54Speaker 1: but it was certainly a day to remember at Wembley
- 26:56Speaker 1: Stadium for Elisa just a few two weeks ago.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Yeah, two weeks, two weeks tomorrow.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Where does the time go? And I should be back
- 27:06Speaker 1: there in two weeks time for the National League playoff
- 27:09Speaker 1: final between South End United and Oldham Athletic.
- 27:12Speaker 3: We've got a soft spot for South End really I
- 27:15Speaker 3: get back into the Football League.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was. I was hoping that South End would
- 27:18Speaker 1: get through because I thought if they get through instead
- 27:21Speaker 1: of no disrespect for Forest Green Rovers, they haven't got
- 27:25Speaker 1: the fan base of South End United and I think
- 27:28Speaker 1: it's going to probably be sixty seventy thousand at Wembley
- 27:31Speaker 1: in two weeks time for that playoff.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Would you believe sittingbourn beat them, didn't they They did? Yes?
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, f a trophy yeah again another king club
- 27:43Speaker 1: that have done really really well.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah right, Okay, Well, before before we come back to
- 27:48Speaker 3: it list, I just want to there's a little announcement
- 27:51Speaker 3: that I think is quite important. Well tomorrow I'm on
- 27:54Speaker 3: a microphone at the Folkston Coastal ten k which I
- 27:58Speaker 3: do believe is so doubt, but please come along and watch.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Now.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Initially the run was supposed to go past the Folks
- 28:06Speaker 3: and Rowing Club which is in Sangate, but they were
- 28:09Speaker 3: scheduled to have a regatta on so it would have
- 28:12Speaker 3: been a bit of congestion. So last week I was
- 28:14Speaker 3: saying be careful and you know, but we've had news
- 28:17Speaker 3: today that the regatta has been canceled and this is
- 28:19Speaker 3: due to the arrival of a weather system from the Atlantic,
- 28:23Speaker 3: and so they've had to because of the other clubs
- 28:27Speaker 3: that do take part in the regatta do come from
- 28:30Speaker 3: a long way away, not just northern Kent but from
- 28:33Speaker 3: right round to sort of Portsmouth and places like that,
- 28:35Speaker 3: so they've got to bring their boats along and you know,
- 28:37Speaker 3: it's a lot of preparation. So Sally Watkins, who's been
- 28:41Speaker 3: a guest of the show for a number of years,
- 28:43Speaker 3: she has nightmas leading up to it, watching the weather
- 28:46Speaker 3: every sort of half and hours see if it changes.
- 28:48Speaker 3: But they've made a massive executive decision. So if you're
- 28:53Speaker 3: planning locally to pop down and watch the Folks and Regatta,
- 28:58Speaker 3: it has been canceled.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the weather it's not great. Next time
- 29:03Speaker 1: I'm going to play reflects that one. But yeah, it's
- 29:07Speaker 1: back on the weekend. So what do you expect. What
- 29:10Speaker 1: you expect on the bank of the weekend? Bad weather,
- 29:13Speaker 1: cones on the motorway. Yeah, definitely cones on the motorway
- 29:18Speaker 1: and operation Stack, isn't it. That's what you expect in
- 29:21Speaker 1: Kent on bank golladays.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Yeah. When we came back from from Cyprus, the plane
- 29:28Speaker 3: was three course of an hour late and then we
- 29:30Speaker 3: got on to the first turning for the M twenty
- 29:32Speaker 3: three to take us to the M twenty five that
- 29:34Speaker 3: was all closed off. So luckily I knew my way
- 29:37Speaker 3: through East Grinstead and got up to the M twenty five,
- 29:39Speaker 3: so he come down the M twenty six. That took
- 29:42Speaker 3: us off. You just couldn't get out of it. Took
- 29:44Speaker 3: us off through Maidstone through Chowing down that way, so
- 29:48Speaker 3: that probably added. And we crawled in about Opos three
- 29:51Speaker 3: in the morning.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the last thing you wanted. Yeah, and a
- 29:55Speaker 1: lovely holiday and have to come back to reality.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I should think we should play this song and then
- 30:02Speaker 3: get back chat in the viue.
- 30:04Speaker 1: It certainly is that it always does on a Saturday.
- 30:06Speaker 3: And as you're saying, it's very amply. Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I looked in there and I thought anything to do
- 30:11Speaker 1: with rain, and I quite like this one. I've actually
- 30:13Speaker 1: got the promo of this one. This one is super Tramp,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and of course it's raining again. There you go, Super Tramp.
- 30:53Speaker 1: It's raining again. Unfortunately. Care it's raining again, isn't it?
- 30:57Speaker 3: And it looks like a rain might stop with a
- 30:59Speaker 3: local cricket from going ahead, Yes, just got going as well.
- 31:02Speaker 3: They've only played a couple of games. Yeah.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I mean, if you aren't going to any sport this
- 31:06Speaker 1: this bank of the weekend, please check it out before
- 31:09Speaker 1: you go, because the weather's not great, is it?
- 31:13Speaker 3: So?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean super Trump what a voice?
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know I like that track.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, i'd like Super Trunk. I think they're not a
- 31:21Speaker 1: bad band. Logical songs my favorite of that anyway.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Right, so we're just winded down out and I just
- 31:30Speaker 3: want to thank Ellis for coming in, and thank you
- 31:33Speaker 3: to you Adrian. I haven't had a word to say
- 31:35Speaker 3: that actually, because you two have just been talking about
- 31:37Speaker 3: someplace called Wembley. It's been you know, as I said
- 31:42Speaker 3: a little earlier on it's great for radio folks on
- 31:47Speaker 3: Seasider's Radio and all the Kent Football clubs to support
- 31:50Speaker 3: a fellow Kent club and they've all got behind whitstaball
- 31:54Speaker 3: and it just shows you how close these clubs are.
- 31:58Speaker 3: And we're just lucky to have you, two guys that
- 32:01Speaker 3: have been up at Wembley.
- 32:03Speaker 1: We really enjoy it. I mean, we we do what
- 32:06Speaker 1: we do because we enjoy enjoy what we do. We
- 32:08Speaker 1: don't we don't get any financial game from it. We
- 32:11Speaker 1: do it for the love of the game, love of
- 32:13Speaker 1: the sport and love for Kent clubs. Really, I mean
- 32:16Speaker 1: we you know, we are independent and we are supposed
- 32:18Speaker 1: to be not biased in any way, but obviously when
- 32:22Speaker 1: we do folks then we obviously want them to win.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And we really wanted Witstable to win at Wembley as
- 32:27Speaker 1: well be in the Kent club and we didn't get
- 32:30Speaker 1: too carried away when the winning goal went in share
- 32:33Speaker 1: we say, but we were a little bit vocal with
- 32:36Speaker 1: the final whistle when we were we were very very
- 32:39Speaker 1: pleased that Witstable Town lifted the cup and hopefully we'll
- 32:43Speaker 1: be back there next season and waving at you again
- 32:46Speaker 1: fingers crossed running nice.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Yes, what did it just? You probably could have been
- 32:53Speaker 3: another Saturday when you saw that player injured on the pitch.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Did you just go into overdrive? And if you went,
- 33:01Speaker 3: you know, I definitely didn't.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I didn't even have time to take my sunglasses off.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I ran old with them on. But no, I was
- 33:09Speaker 2: definitely in sort of headspace of work mode and we
- 33:13Speaker 2: need sort them out sort of. We're at Wembley anyway,
- 33:16Speaker 2: so we need them fit and ready.
- 33:19Speaker 1: It was I think I remem if it was your game.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It was the game after the stretcher came on.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Oh no, that wasn't us, Thank goodness.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I mean it wasn't used, but they were. They were there.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Really, they're really really good. The medical sort of lead
- 33:36Speaker 2: that Wembley came and found us before and he was like,
- 33:38Speaker 2: you need any help, just wave us sort of we're
- 33:40Speaker 2: here if you need us. If you need anything, just
- 33:42Speaker 2: shout very thorough.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Actual you know. Getting back to the of the physio,
- 33:46Speaker 3: what was your own physio room like? Was it.
- 33:51Speaker 2: So it's it is in the changing room. It was
- 33:53Speaker 2: sort of the side of the changing room. We had
- 33:54Speaker 2: two physio beds. We obviously we took all of our
- 33:57Speaker 2: own stuff with us because it's what we're used to
- 33:59Speaker 2: use and it's what the players they used to, but
- 34:01Speaker 2: if we needed anything sort of you could almost just
- 34:04Speaker 2: sort of snap your fingers and it would be there.
