- 0:00Look at my mug, it says don't talk to me unless I've had my
- 0:03abortion until I've had my abortion.
- 0:06So don't worry guys, I had my abortion today so we're good so
- 0:08we can talk. Hey guys, welcome back to GASP
- 0:23the Pod, the podcast for the gays, the girls, and especially
- 0:26the gay girls. We talk about pop culture.
- 0:29If you're new here, we talk about queer pop culture.
- 0:31And this week, I'm really wanting to talk about Wicked
- 0:35because Defying Gravity has been stuck in my head truly every
- 0:40single moment of the last three days.
- 0:43And happy 10th episode, guys. This is my 10th episode of this
- 0:47podcast. It feels like it's been 2, but
- 0:48it also feels like it's been 500.
- 0:50If you've watched all 10, that's crazy.
- 0:55So let me know if you've watched every single episode.
- 0:57That would be so iconic of you and I love you and you're the
- 1:03best. So maybe we'll make like if
- 1:04everyone who's watched 10 episodes, maybe we'll make like
- 1:06a special discord group for you guys 'cause you guys are the
- 1:09real ones. And I just appreciate you guys
- 1:11listening so much. It's been so fun and I want to
- 1:14make this for what everyone else wants it to be.
- 1:16So if you have a like topic or even if it's a very, very
- 1:21specific thing you want me to talk about, just let me know and
- 1:24I will literally make an episode on it.
- 1:26So there you go. If you're not watching video,
- 1:29I'm trying to give kind of Glenda right now.
- 1:33Pink Mike, pink shirt, rainbow earrings.
- 1:38Yeah, I'm back in New York. I was just in LA and if you
- 1:44haven't watched my last episode, I did it with my friend Maddie.
- 1:48It was very, very fun. We talked about like pretty much
- 1:52secret gay kings of the entertainment world, like
- 1:55Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, every motherfucker that everyone
- 2:00assumes is straight but is not. Look at my mug.
- 2:03It says don't talk to me unless I've had my abortion until I've
- 2:07had my abortion. So don't worry guys, I had my
- 2:09abortion today. So we're good so we can talk.
- 2:11So there's so much tea that's going on with the Wicked movie.
- 2:16If you guys have not been on social media, we're going to
- 2:19cover all of it because not only is it just like Juicy and I
- 2:23think giving this movie so much more PR and like making people
- 2:27pay attention to it because every gay that I know right now
- 2:31is talking about it. If you're not, you really need
- 2:33to get hip. But yeah, I've got some hot
- 2:36takes about everything that's going on.
- 2:38Like, we're going to talk about the cast.
- 2:39We're going to talk about Ethan Slater and Ariana Grande
- 2:42SpongeBob. And what's really funny is when
- 2:45I was, like, doing research, and research is a strong word for
- 2:48what I was doing. But like, I just wanted to like,
- 2:51you know, get some sort of basis of facts before I just, like,
- 2:55started running my mouth. I was searching like because I
- 2:58forgot Ethan Slater's name and I searched on Google.
- 3:03I searched up like Ariana Grande and.
- 3:06And first of all, he doesn't even come up for the first like
- 3:095 searches. But when he does come up, it's
- 3:11not his name. It just says Ariana Grande and
- 3:13SpongeBob. That is like not ideal if this
- 3:18is like the love of your life. So yeah, we're going to be
- 3:21talking about their Ariana Grande and Cynthia Arevos cry
- 3:26fests, how they're crying and like every single interview they
- 3:30do, which like real, but we can get into that.
- 3:33Apparently there was maybe something traumatic that
- 3:36happened when they were filming. We're going to talk about their
- 3:39potential sapphic relationship. I don't even think that they're
- 3:45in a sapphic relationship, but some people do.
- 3:47And we're going to get into that.
- 3:49And, like, so fair, we're going to talk about Cynthia Rivo and
- 3:52the alleged rumor that she's dating Lena Waithe and that Lena
- 3:56Waithe. Whatever.
- 3:57We'll get into this. OK, It's some drama.
- 4:00And then we're going to finally top it all off with bringing all
- 4:05of this back to the themes of witches and lesbians and how
- 4:08wicked. There's a huge theory that
- 4:11Wicked is actually, like, just about two lesbians.
- 4:16This is a big Wicked week. I'm pretty sure Wicked comes out
- 4:19this Friday. Yeah.
- 4:22So perfect timing. What I want to start off with is
- 4:27what literally I've been seeing on the Internet all the time and
- 4:31I honestly think that both sides are annoying to me.
- 4:35And this is just about how much that Cynthia and Ariana Grande
- 4:39are crying on every interview they're doing about Wicked two
- 4:44sides about they're crying, right?
- 4:48So there's some people that are like drama kids are so emotional
- 4:52and, you know, they put so much hard work in tears.
- 4:55This was their dream and they've been working so hard.
- 4:59They're like tired and they're like not eating enough, which we
- 5:03will get into and all this stuff.
- 5:05And that's why they're crying. I think those are great reasons.
- 5:09Then I'll tell you the opposite and then I'll tell you my hot
- 5:11take, OK? The cons or the people that are
- 5:14saying like this is bullshit are like it's literally just a
- 5:17movie. Every single interview is
- 5:19insane. The crying is kind of
- 5:21ridiculous. Like talk about the movie.
- 5:24I will say I started off with that group of people because I
- 5:28was like, it is like so annoying it every single interview to be
- 5:34crying like when someone asks one question and you're like is
- 5:40just a lot to me. I am just like, tell me about
- 5:43the movie. Like I feel like the entirety of
- 5:47the PR on this movie has now just been there like emotional
- 5:50release and they're not even saying anything about it.
- 5:52They're just crying. So I'm like, I would love to
- 5:55hear more about like if it's so emotional, I want to hear about
- 5:59why it's so emotional. So that's kind of my thing.
- 6:03And it's also just like, it's very much like I've always
- 6:06wanted to do this. I've always wanted to do this.
- 6:08And I'm like, I would love to hear about you talking about the
- 6:10impact of the movie on other people.
- 6:12So that was my take. And then I have changed my take
- 6:16a little bit because I'm realizing like, and this is so
- 6:23on me and normalize changing your opinion when you learn new
- 6:25information. I started like actually watching
- 6:28interviews with them instead of just like the clips that went
- 6:31viral. And it's like there are most of
- 6:33the interview they're talking about things.
- 6:36So it's just that the media is just pushing out these crying
- 6:39clips. I do think it's still too much
- 6:42crying, but like, I don't know, work, I guess.
- 6:46And then there's a lot of people that are saying like, OK, they
- 6:50are actually really emotional about the filming of this
- 6:52because there was like something traumatic that occurred while
- 6:56filming. My theory is that I don't think
- 7:00there's necessarily something traumatic, but I think they're
- 7:02bonded because they're both cheaters.
- 7:05Sorry. I think that they both went
- 7:08through kind of tumultuous relationship stuff and both of
- 7:13them kind of involved an element of cheating.
- 7:19And that's kind of why they're like trauma bonded.
- 7:23My other theory is that, like many have been saying, like
- 7:27their weight has been concerning.
- 7:29And I'm all about like, not commenting on people's bodies,
- 7:33but I think it's fair to be concerned.
- 7:37But I do think it's going too far, right?
- 7:40Like we don't need to be like zooming in on pictures of their
- 7:43bodies and like, talking about like, what specifically is not
- 7:47OK. So yeah, I think it's fair to
- 7:51have concern, especially like if you're a huge Ariana fan and you
- 7:55are noticing that, you know, she seems like weaker and frail.
- 7:59I think that's fair. I don't think we need to be
- 8:02having like, all of these posts about it, right?
- 8:05Like, there is too it. It can become too much and it
- 8:09doesn't need to be the center of the film because I do think that
- 8:12that's triggering for people. So like we, it's fair to bring
- 8:15up concern. I, I don't love that now their
- 8:22weight and they're crying has now become like the center of
- 8:26what people are talking about when it comes to this movie.
- 8:28Or at least that's just like what I'm seeing on my side of
- 8:31the Internet. That's kind of why I've changed
- 8:33my opinion about it a little bit.
- 8:34Like that's so annoying that they're crying, but we don't
- 8:36need that to take place of like this amazing movie.
- 8:40There's some people that are saying, OK, it's coming off a
- 8:41little narcissistic, but then when men say it, I'm like, EW,
- 8:47OK, when queers and when women, when people of color are like,
- 8:52OK, guys, I really want you to talk about the movie.
- 8:55Like let's hear about something else.
- 8:57Like let's not just hear about your story.
- 8:59Like let's hear about what this movie is about.
- 9:03So fair. And then when I hear men do it,
- 9:05I'm like, it's just coming from a place of sexism and racism
- 9:10and, you know, all the things. So I don't love this become the
- 9:14center of the movie. But I do still think it's really
- 9:16annoying that they've been crying.
- 9:17And I think that those two things can exist at the same
- 9:20time. They are the only two people in
- 9:22the world who have, like, gone through this cheating
- 9:27relationship right when this huge movie is about to come up.
- 9:30And they're like, validating each other in their
- 9:32cheatingness. And I want to like before I get
- 9:36into both of their alleged relationship drama, I want to
- 9:41add, of course, we don't know exactly what happened with both
- 9:44of them. I don't think that this makes
- 9:47them well, I take that back. I was going to say I don't think
- 9:51this makes them bad people, but I do think if it is true about
- 9:55Ariana, like I think that's crazy, but I'm Stan's of both of
- 9:59them. I truly, truly love both of
- 10:04them. If you guys haven't seen
- 10:06Harriet, you should really see Harriet.
- 10:08It's one of the best movies I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 10:11Ariana, of course, I'm a huge stand, but it's T and we need to
- 10:15talk about it. Just like with Taylor Swift.
- 10:18I'm like the girl's a cheater a little bit.
- 10:21I mean, she talks about it in her music.
- 10:24OK, let's get into this. OK OK so this movie has started
- 10:29to get crazy PR like a year ago because as we were seeing clips
- 10:34of the set and the cast was being announced etcetera
- 10:37etcetera, we hear that Ariana Grande is dating her Co star.
- 10:43And the reason why this is so tea like let's truly be honest
- 10:47here. The reason why this was such tea
- 10:50is not even because she was married or that he was married
- 10:53or that he had a baby. It was literally because he was
- 10:56not as attractive as her other exes.
- 11:04He is not what we think of a classic handsome beauty, OK.
- 11:10And I do think that's what startled people.
- 11:12It startled me. I was like him, really.
- 11:15It's one thing to cheat. It's another thing to cheat for
- 11:19like SpongeBob guys. And there's less evidence to
- 11:25show that she's cheated on Dalton.
- 11:28There's alleged affairs that Dalton.
- 11:30So Dalton is Ariana's ex-husband and there's more evidence to
- 11:36show that like he cheated on her.
- 11:39So like I'm not even upset at her for like she can do whatever
- 11:42she wants. Like if Dalton cheated on her
- 11:44like you do you girl. My question is like why
- 11:47SpongeBob? Right?
- 11:50OK, so this is from Harper's Bazaar.
- 11:52Here's the timeline. Let's get into the timeline.
- 11:54September 18th, 2023, Ariana filed for divorce from Dalton.
- 11:59OK, so remember that September 2023, this is like a little over
- 12:03a year ago, two months after it's announced that Grande and
- 12:07Gomez have quietly separated, She divorced him.
- 12:10So it was like 2 months after they separated, kind of quick.
- 12:13July 20th, 2023. So literally a few months before
- 12:17they divorced, a source confirmed that Ariana and Ethan
- 12:20are dating. So let's remember, the timeline
- 12:23of this is kind of crazy, and it doesn't mean that this is the
- 12:26truth, but it's puzzling, right? The fact that they were
- 12:32confirmed to be dating before she was divorced is T, and it's
- 12:38always going to be T. This is Hollywood, baby.
- 12:41December 7th, 2022 Ethan joined the cast of the Wicked movie.
- 12:45So literally only within six months of him even joining the
- 12:49cast. Though this doesn't even mean
- 12:51that they've even shot any scenes yet.
- 12:54Six months later she's divorced and they're dating.
- 12:58That's pretty crazy. Just gonna leave those facts
- 13:03there, OK? This is what Billboard says a
- 13:05few days after news of Spongebob's relationship with
- 13:10Grande was surfaced, Slater filed to divorce his wife, Lily
- 13:15Jay on July 26th, 2023, after five years of marriage. 5
- 13:23Listen, we will get into what Lily Lily Jay said about this,
- 13:28but there's no denying that this is when the news came out.
- 13:33We don't know what actually happened between the two of
- 13:35them, but I mean, the news of his relationship with Ariana
- 13:41Grande came out before he was divorced.
- 13:45That's not ideal. And it was a few days.
- 13:48So it's kind of like, oh, he's like, oh fuck, I got a divorcer.
- 13:53It's just it doesn't look great for SpongeBob.
- 13:55Lily J, Ethan Slater's ex-wife. She told Page 6.
- 14:01Now since this article has come out, there's been people saying,
- 14:05wait, her words were taken out of context.
- 14:07Lily J said my words were taken out of context.
- 14:10I'm pretty pretty sure people are saying this is not the
- 14:13narrative. So there's a lot of confusing
- 14:15evidence out here. This is what I'm seeing from the
- 14:18media. I did so much research and like,
- 14:19this is the only thing I'm saying.
- 14:21So we have no idea literally what actually happened between
- 14:25the two. I'm just reading what I'm
- 14:27saying. Doesn't mean that's what
- 14:30happened. This is just allegedly what she
- 14:33said and this is the quote that was given to Page 6.
- 14:36Page Six said that Lily J said Ariana Grande is not a girl's
- 14:42girl and that she said, quote, my family is just collateral
- 14:47damage. And the reason why she said that
- 14:51collateral damage is that she had a kid with SpongeBob guys.
- 14:55Teen Vogue said the married couple welcomed their first
- 14:58child, a son, in August 2022. So let's remember that literally
- 15:04within less than a year of Ethan and his wife having a baby, they
- 15:12filed for divorce and he's dating Ariana Grande.
- 15:15Like, this baby is an infant still.
- 15:18So even if there's no cheating, I think that's fucking insane.
- 15:23And even if Lily J like that was misconstrued by page 6 and like
- 15:30taken out of contacts which so fair because like the media can
- 15:34be crazy. I wouldn't love Ariana Grande
- 15:38even if they had like a mutual divorce.
- 15:40But a lot of people are saying that Lily J had no idea that it
- 15:42was coming and he had only met Ariana like a few months before
- 15:49he started before he was like, OK, great marriage done.
- 15:55It's just tea, you guys. So obviously that's taken over
- 16:00the media. And what I do think is really
- 16:03interesting, and I found this out truly like a week ago, is
- 16:07Cynthia Arevo and her complicated relationship with
- 16:10Lena Waithe. And the fact that both of the
- 16:13stars of this movie have like, alleged cheating scandals is
- 16:19interesting and I do think is adding to the controversy
- 16:22surrounding like, giving this movie a lot of publicity.
- 16:25And then also adds to their like, emotional trauma bonded
- 16:30relationship that we're seeing because like, girls get it
- 16:35together. I mean, like, be emotional or
- 16:37whatever, but get it together. So Cynthia's queer.
- 16:41She identifies as queer. Let me actually see if she
- 16:44identifies as bisexual. She identifies as queer and she
- 16:47identifies as bisexual. Me.
- 16:50If you guys don't know who Lenawaith is, she's a very
- 16:53famous queer comedian. And she was married to a woman
- 17:00named Alana Mayo. They were married for two years,
- 17:03but they had been dating for like years before that, right?
- 17:06So they were married in 2019 and they divorced in 2021.
- 17:10But it was like a short two years.
- 17:11It wasn't like the full two years Cynthia and Lena have been
- 17:15good friends and there was allegedly cheating that went on
- 17:19between them two and like right after they were married.
- 17:24So Cynthia and Lena were pictured together multiple times
- 17:28during trips that Lena took without her wife.
- 17:31And then like pretty much really quickly after these pictures
- 17:35went out, like they separated and then like they got divorced.
- 17:39So this all happened within two years.
- 17:42They've been very quiet about the reasons why and like just a
- 17:45quick fast divorce. Like doesn't look.
- 17:47This doesn't surprise me about Lena Waithe.
- 17:49I don't know, that's just like my opinion.
- 17:51But Cynthia and Lena are now like pretty much dating, like
- 17:55they haven't actually confirmed it, but they like do a lot of, I
- 17:57don't know, red carpets together and stuff like that.
- 18:00So they're definitely together. And now Alana, Lena's ex-wife,
- 18:04has a male partner. And that's like so fair.
- 18:07Like, listen, you're queer. You're by like date whoever you
- 18:10want. But I do think that just kind of
- 18:12like proves to me what happened in the relationship because I'm
- 18:16like, OK, you were so scarred. You were like, fuck, I can't
- 18:19even I'm like, I can only date man now.
- 18:22That's how scarred you are that you need to date a man that's so
- 18:27scary that you think men are going to hurt you less than your
- 18:30ex-wife. That's like that's how you know
- 18:35it was bad. That's how you know that there
- 18:36was like cheating. So that's the team.
- 18:40The fact that there are these rumors again, rumors of Cynthia
- 18:46and Ariana and like, there's all this crying going on.
- 18:53You girls need some therapy. The T around the casting and the
- 18:57relationships and the PR and the promo of everything is capturing
- 19:02all of our attention. But let's talk about the actual
- 19:06like idea of the movie and if it's queer, because there's a
- 19:09huge theory around this that the two witches are actually like in
- 19:13a sapphic relationship. Let's get into it.
- 19:16First of all, the Wizard of Oz, which is the movie, the story
- 19:20that this is all based around is very queer.
- 19:25I go into it a little bit more in episode 3 of this podcast in
- 19:29the history of queer flagging. Go watch that episode if you
- 19:32haven't already. But pretty much I talk about the
- 19:35reasons why the queer community, excuse me, in the 30s and the
- 19:3840s was like very attached to this film and felt that it was
- 19:44very queer coded and in fact, like outright queer.
- 19:48And since then we have have like very documented like gay
- 19:53historical terms that have come out of this story, for example,
- 19:57the cowardly lion, the yellow brick road used by Elton John.
- 20:02What else? Oz is a very queer place.
- 20:06Witches are queer. And I also talk about witches in
- 20:10episode 6 of this podcast, which which you should definitely.
- 20:15Watch before getting into the rest of this episode because I
- 20:19really talk about like this shared culture of witches and
- 20:22lesbians, which is like the same culture pretty much.
- 20:25So it is just very interesting and striking that there's a
- 20:28movie about two witches, like having this like really
- 20:32emotional relationship together. That is also showed in Cynthia
- 20:36and Ariana's like, promo of the movie too, right?
- 20:40Like, they have this bond together.
- 20:42There are some people that were saying, like, they have such a
- 20:44traumatic bond together. They might have like, slept
- 20:46together. Listen, Ariana, just because
- 20:50she, like, looks straight doesn't mean she is straight.
- 20:52She literally has a song where she says I like women and men.
- 20:56And yeah, people are like, Oh my God, it was on someone else's
- 20:57song. It doesn't matter.
- 20:59She's always given me bisexual vibes.
- 21:01She's always given me bye to me. Like she has a music video where
- 21:04she wants to catch the girl in a pool.
- 21:06So I would not put it past these crazy cheaters.
- 21:12OK, sorry, we don't know if they're cheaters.
- 21:15I apologize. I apologize.
- 21:18And also everyone in Hollywood is like open.
- 21:19We have no idea what happened. However, I wouldn't put it past
- 21:22these ladies to also be sleeping together.
- 21:24So would not put it past them. Witches are queer.
- 21:27The Wizard of Oz is queer. The fact that Wicked is starring
- 21:32to witches is like nail in the coffin lesbian to me.
- 21:38So yeah, go ahead and watch my episode on witches.
- 21:41I feel like that'll add a lot to this theory.
- 21:44But so here's the main theory of how Wicked is actually like a
- 21:48sapphic love story. So some fans interpret Alphaba.
- 21:53So again, the two witches. If you if you don't already
- 21:56know, Alphaba, Wicked Witch of the West and Glenda is the good
- 22:00witch, the good witch of the South.
- 22:02So these are two very different tropes.
- 22:06And I do find it really interesting that like once pop
- 22:10culture and like the early 20th century kind of started
- 22:13accepting like witches is like almost Princess like right there
- 22:19was like, OK, there's an idea of good witches and bad witches.
- 22:23What's the good witch? The good witch is white.
- 22:26The good witch is feminine and pretty and delicate and lovely
- 22:30and kind, right? Just like me, you guys.
- 22:33And supposedly straight. That was sarcastic.
- 22:37The bad witch. What is the evil witch?
- 22:40Who's the wicked witch, Right? She's green.
- 22:43That's also watch my previous episode on this racial right.
- 22:48They painted her green in order to like not make it so outright
- 22:52that she was like a woman of another race.
- 22:54But a lot of like enslaved women and people of women of color
- 22:57were accused of being witches because they were seen as more
- 22:59evil. So she's green.
- 23:02The Wicked Witch of the West is portrayed as like not
- 23:04stereotypically feminine and as pretty as Glenda from the makeup
- 23:09that they give her. She's seen as like evil and mean
- 23:12and like not sociable, right. She's queer.
- 23:17She's a queer evil person of color versus this feminine
- 23:23gorgeous white witch. So these are the two versions of
- 23:27witches that we see and like how society views. 1 is OK and the
- 23:32other one is not OK because they have so much more shared than
- 23:36they realize. Glinda is like trying to be
- 23:39liked by everyone, but really deep down she's a queer witch
- 23:42just like Alphaba, which I'm just like so obsessed with this
- 23:45idea that they're Saphix. So Alphabo's experience of being
- 23:49an outsider and facing prejudice is like really goes to show this
- 23:53parallel of the experience of many LGBTQ people.
- 23:57And also the song Define Gravity.
- 23:59There's a reason why it's so poignant and popular and also
- 24:03popular with the queer community.
- 24:05It's like, literally, I'm defying the expectations of what
- 24:09society wants from me. No wizard that there is or was
- 24:14almost like a God. I don't care what God thinks of
- 24:16me. Isn't that God?
- 24:19That wizard is never gonna bring me down.
- 24:21Chills. OK.
- 24:24And then just like the fact that Cynthia plays Alphaba and Ariana
- 24:27Grande plays Glinda, I think is really striking.
- 24:30Cynthia is this queer Black woman, and she's playing
- 24:34Alphaba, who's supposed to be like someone who people are
- 24:37scared of and people don't think she's attractive or feminine.
- 24:41And like, that's kind of like with the reality of what queer
- 24:45Black women have to go through, right?
- 24:47Like versus Ariana Grande, who was immediately accepted and
- 24:51looked like, Oh my God, gorgeous, pretty feminine pink.
- 24:54You're white, right? Like, I think that's really
- 24:57striking the casting of it. They have this like, shared
- 25:01connection. Cynthia definitely went through
- 25:03a very different rise to fame than like Ariana did, right?
- 25:07Obviously they both had hardship, but Cynthia is an out
- 25:09queer black woman. OK.
- 25:11It's very similar to alphabet story.
- 25:13Like, you're not accepted as like pretty and feminine right
- 25:16away if you're queer. And especially the racial
- 25:18implications of her being like a black woman like in this school
- 25:23and in this Society of Oz. I really think the casting was
- 25:27really wonderful. The fact that they that both of
- 25:29them were cast as these characters.
- 25:33And as we know, witches were obviously othered due to racist
- 25:37reasons as well. It's interesting that alphabet
- 25:40is the evil 1, but Ariana is the good one and they're both
- 25:46witches though, you know, so it's like a what kind of like
- 25:51witchcraft will we allow in our society?
- 25:55Only if we can like trust the white good pretty one, right and
- 26:00pretty with quotations just what society deems as pretty.
- 26:04So that's the queer reading of Wicked.
- 26:09And as much as I know that they're talking about the racial
- 26:13elements of this movie and how like the fact that Alphaba is
- 26:19also discriminate against because like she is not white,
- 26:22she's green, but like in real life, like obviously she's
- 26:25black. That is very much talked about.
- 26:29And like, the society has, like, so much racism, like, deep in
- 26:33it. That's obviously reflected in
- 26:35what we see in Oz. So I'm really glad they talked
- 26:37about this. And I think that's another
- 26:38reason why Cynthia is crying in a lot of these interviews is
- 26:43because these interviewers are, like, selected.
- 26:45They're being very emotional to, like, ask a really cool
- 26:48question. But do you need to be crying?
- 26:50I'm sorry. We're talking a lot about race,
- 26:52which I think is so important and a really crucial part of
- 26:55this film that I hope is snuck in.
- 26:58And a lot of this like wider audience, I guess doesn't really
- 27:01notice the larger mess. However, I also hope coupled
- 27:05with this that there is more talk about Wicked being very
- 27:11queer coded. And there was an interview
- 27:14recently where someone asked I think Ariana and Cynthia.
- 27:17And Ariana was like, well AUSA has always been gay.
- 27:20And I really appreciate that they said that like outright
- 27:23because that's not talked about enough like the Wizard of Oz is.
- 27:28And Wicked are literally like some of the most important, like
- 27:34stones that have built the foundation of queer culture
- 27:38today. And we do not talk about it
- 27:40enough. And just because there is not
- 27:42like a hard book of like gay facts of culture, doesn't mean
- 27:47it didn't build this framework of like what we see is queer pop
- 27:51culture today. So I hope more people talk about
- 27:54this. And when you watch it, which
- 27:56everyone should, this is not sponsored, obviously, because I
- 27:59don't think they would want me to be like tied with their
- 28:03movie. But when you watch it, like,
- 28:07think about these queer themes. And I'm really excited to see if
- 28:10it kind of stays true to what at least I saw on Broadway when I
- 28:15was little. And just this, like, romance
- 28:19between the two of them. Like, they don't want to let
- 28:22each other go. And they have this stronger
- 28:25relationship and realizing that they have this shared,
- 28:28unspeakable bond almost that like no one else in society
- 28:32understands. Guys.
- 28:34It's so gay. The other thing is, now that I'm
- 28:38thinking about it, I feel like the Wizard of Oz is like the gay
- 28:43brother to the lesbian sister that is Wicked, right?
- 28:47Like Wicked focuses on the women, and obviously we don't
- 28:50see Dorothy that much in this part of Wicked.
- 28:54And obviously the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's the main character,
- 28:58but the gayness that came out of the Wizard of Oz was very
- 29:03focused on the Cowardly Lion and like being friends with these
- 29:07queers, these queer men. So I love that Wicked focuses on
- 29:13the witches and this just entire city of gay motherfuckers.
- 29:19And it's just so good. I'm really excited to see it.
- 29:22I hope that even though I just partook in it, I hope that the
- 29:27media dies down a little bit about like, their weight and
- 29:31their crying and talks about the movie more.
- 29:35And also like, these media companies who are doing these
- 29:39interviews need to be pushing out the right clips.
- 29:42Like, I had to dig to search for these interviews and actually
- 29:47get information about the movie that's not just them crying and
- 29:52being emotional and, like, holding hands in a fragile,
- 29:55like, emotional way because this movie is also about strength.
- 29:59And like, yes, crying is strong. I'm not saying that it's like,
- 30:02makes you weak at all. But I also just want to hear
- 30:05them talk about the power behind the movie as well.
- 30:08And I think that two of those things can exist.
- 30:10And I just need whoever's doing these interviews to, like, push
- 30:15out some of these other clips. Like, I want to hear about their
- 30:18experience filming the movie. Like, I don't want to just hear
- 30:22them and wipe each other's tears.
- 30:24I also hope I know everyone's been talking about the fact that
- 30:28it's kind of like the color is drained out of the movie a
- 30:31little bit. I'm hoping that's intentional.
- 30:34And from what I've been hearing from people that have seen it
- 30:38already, it seems like that that's an intentional choice.
- 30:41Like this movie is deeper than just like doing a classic,
- 30:45right? It's a movie that's reflecting
- 30:49the discrimination that goes on in our world.
- 30:51And I hope we like really be clear about that.
- 30:54At least creators, we talk about this more openly because it's so
- 30:59gay. It's so gay.
- 31:00What I'm hoping happens is that the movie gets like brighter and
- 31:04brighter as it goes on and kind of like shows their relationship
- 31:07gets stronger and queer and gayer, just like Taylor Swift's
- 31:10errors to her. So that's my theory also really
- 31:14quickly, just because like I love to tie everything back to
- 31:17Taylor Swift. The fact that Ariana and Cynthia
- 31:22made a point to say that Oz is gay is so important.
- 31:27And also it brings us back to Taylor Swift and all of the
- 31:30friend of Dorothea theories and how people can easily just be
- 31:35like, oh, the yellow brick road and Dorothy.
- 31:38That's not that has nothing to do with queer culture and these
- 31:41two very famous like leads of this movie.
- 31:45That's going to be one of the biggest grossing movies of our
- 31:48time. Hopefully our saying that Oz is
- 31:52gay is so important and I hope that we can hold multiple things
- 31:57at the same time. I hope that people on the
- 31:59Internet can be like, it's annoying that they're crying and
- 32:02also not take away like how amazing they are as actors and
- 32:07how amazing they are as public figures to be saying this
- 32:10outright and to be like talking about the larger themes in this
- 32:14movie instead of just kind of like sneaking it in.
- 32:17Like let's talk outright about what this movie means and how
- 32:22there are larger themes instead of just being like, Oh my gosh,
- 32:25froofy little musical. So fair.
- 32:28Like we can love musicals and be like, Oh my God.
- 32:30So like QQQ ha ha ha. They're emotional.
- 32:33He, he, he. And at the same time, talk about
- 32:37what this movie means for the world.
- 32:41So, yeah, they're public figures.
- 32:43We can talk about their personal lives, but that can't be all
- 32:46we're talking about. And I think the calls coming
- 32:49from inside the house right now. So maybe I'm just telling myself
- 32:53that. But also the fact that this
- 32:56movie is coming out like a very short while after the election
- 33:03is poignant. And I hope that there's
- 33:06conservatives and Trump supporters that like
- 33:08accidentally like this movie and maybe, I don't know, learn
- 33:12something about people. I don't know, man.
- 33:17Should we just talk about the election really quickly and then
- 33:19avoiding it? And I apologize if you've been
- 33:22here looking for me to talk about it, but there's really not
- 33:27much to say. It's hard because I feel very
- 33:31defeated and I feel like I have no hope for politics.
- 33:34But at the same time, I know that there is hope.
- 33:37So it's just like it's going to be a little bit of time before
- 33:41we're able to see a huge change. But that doesn't mean we don't
- 33:47have opportunities for small change that are going to like
- 33:50lead the groundwork for a woman president and a president that
- 33:53doesn't hate us and a Supreme Court that won't take away all
- 33:57of our rights. Like we will get everything
- 34:02back. We will get our rights back.
- 34:05We will get more rights. We will survive.
- 34:09It just is going to take a lot longer.
- 34:11And for anyone that's like not doing great out there, I
- 34:14recommend like, watching documentaries about like the
- 34:17civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, like
- 34:21the queer movement, because it's made me realize like, OK, it
- 34:25takes a lot of building blocks. It's not going to be overnight.
- 34:29And that doesn't mean it's like not worth it to fight for what
- 34:33we believe in, but it's fair to take a little time off.
- 34:38So I've just been not really thinking about, like, concretely
- 34:42politics, but I've just been kind of like watching
- 34:46documentaries and mourning and feeling my feelings.
- 34:50So I recommend you do the same. But like, we have hope.
- 34:54It's just not going to be overnight.
- 34:55It's not going to be a year or two.
- 34:58It's going to take a little bit of time, but that's just been
- 35:00happening throughout all of history.
- 35:02And unfortunately it has to be us to do it, which fucking
- 35:06sucks. And for anyone that's about to
- 35:08go home to Thanksgiving and see homophobic family, I feel you.
- 35:13I hear you and I'm in the same boat and I'm trying to figure
- 35:15out what I want to do. It's OK to focus on yourself
- 35:20this year. If you don't feel like being
- 35:21around Trump supporters and people that don't vote for your
- 35:27rights, so do you. It's OK to prioritize that.
- 35:31I saw this really funny tweet the other day that was like huge
- 35:35news for girls with empathy. And it was like that old guy
- 35:40that you're crying about seeing, like him have like a cup of
- 35:44coffee by himself in a coffee shop.
- 35:47He probably voted against you so you don't even feel bad about
- 35:49it. And actually that made me feel a
- 35:50lot better. I was like, OK, right.
- 35:52Like I don't, we can't have all the empathy in the world.
- 35:56We can't do everything. Sometimes other people need to
- 36:00step up and be good people. So it's like we can just focus
- 36:04on ourselves, focus on our movement.
- 36:06We will try to do our best, but we also cannot control other
- 36:10people. And we don't need to be feeling
- 36:13sick about having this much empathy for other people if they
- 36:17don't even think we should have rights.
- 36:18And that's kind of like what I'm learning.
- 36:20And it's like hardening my soul a little bit, but it's kind of
- 36:23like what needs to to happen because we need to have these
- 36:26tough conversations because like these people are not meeting us
- 36:29with love. And I don't mean to meet them
- 36:31with hatred. I mean to like meet them with
- 36:33like reality. They hate us.
- 36:36I don't think we should hate them back, but I'm definitely
- 36:39not going to love blindly anymore.
- 36:42And I think that that should spur momentum a little bit,
- 36:47Like, oh, shit, I voted for Trump.
- 36:51And like, yeah, like, I'm gay. Like maybe I don't want to be
- 36:56around you if you're like, oh, I voted for Trump and you don't
- 37:00want to be around me. It's like, maybe not.
- 37:02Like hopefully this should spur a little bit of a wake up call.
- 37:06It's kind of like these straight girls doing this 4B movement,
- 37:09like literally go off girlies. Like, yes, men need to realize,
- 37:13like, you don't just get free sex if you're going to vote
- 37:16against our reproductive rights, OK?
- 37:18Like wake up call. So anyways, there's a lot of
- 37:21ways to go through this. Every way is fair for you to go
- 37:25through. Like accepting Trump won doesn't
- 37:28mean that we're all going to die.
- 37:31Obviously it means more people are going to suffer than if
- 37:35Kamala was president. But the huge benefit is we have
- 37:40social media and we have community and we have a way to
- 37:44connect with people, even if we live so far away from each other
- 37:49that I was kind of thinking about this.
- 37:51People did not have like 50 years ago going through these
- 37:54movements. They felt very alone.
- 37:56So the fact that we still have these spaces, we will always
- 38:00have these spaces. Even if we have to create AVPN
- 38:02to fucking find other queer people, we will still be able
- 38:07to, like, have this community. So that's the silver lining I'm
- 38:11thinking about. I'm sure my thoughts and
- 38:14everything might change. Like maybe I'm going to have
- 38:15more empathy for people in a little bit.
- 38:17I don't know. But right now I'm just feeling a
- 38:18lot of anger. And I think that's very fair for
- 38:21anyone to feel right now. So that's kind of how I'm
- 38:25feeling. It's just a lot.
- 38:27So be nice to yourself. We need you to stay alive.
- 38:31And it feels so hard right now, but we have each other.
- 38:35Yeah. And go see Wicked because it's
- 38:36going to be really gay. And I'm just really excited
- 38:40about it. And I think, like, hopefully
- 38:43it'll be like an uplifting message of hope because Lord
- 38:47knows we need that shit. So yeah, I started out this
- 38:50episode very joyful. And then I remembered that Trump
- 38:52got elected and I got very sad. I'm sure you guys could
- 38:55literally see my energy drain. So I try to stay in denial, I
- 39:00try to only think about pop culture and Taylor Swift and it
- 39:03really works. Oh my God, I forgot what I was
- 39:05going to say. The fact that Taylor Swift talks
- 39:08about Wizard of Oz references so much is literally queer and
- 39:13literally the movie of Wicked just shows that Oz is gay, so
- 39:19there's no way to argue against it.
- 39:21Next week I have an episode that I'm going to do about the end of
- 39:25the Errors tour. I literally cannot believe it.
- 39:28We are going to be talking about our theories, perhaps karma,
- 39:31what's going to happen, her coming out.
- 39:33It's going to be juicy, so stay tuned.
- 39:36Also per usual, Please remember to subscribe on YouTube and rate
- 39:425 stars on Spotify. It seems silly but it's so easy.

- 39:50appreciate you guys watching and listening because this is 10

- 40:03I have a discord or you can just comment on my YouTube, comment
