• 0:26
Speaker 2: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, Real experience,
• 0:30
Speaker 2: Real results, Frank Walker, Law dot Com. Let that conversation
• 0:34
Speaker 2: begin on Let's Talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, this is Curllee with Let's Talk.
• 0:40
Speaker 3: And uh, I have Lisa Odie in the building, and uh,
• 0:46
Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis on air.
• 0:47
Speaker 4: I do believe Hollis.
• 0:49
  Speaker 3: Are you there?
• 0:51
  Speaker 5: Yes, I am, I'm here.
• 0:52
Speaker 3: All right, Well, I've got some I got an interesting conversation.
• 1:01
Speaker 4: That I wanted I want to start the show out with.
• 1:04
Speaker 3: And it's like who do you think is the best quarterback?
• 1:10
Speaker 3: And or or like why okay, like there's like a
• 1:14
Speaker 3: there's like a ton of great quarterbacks. I think did
• 1:18
Speaker 3: you send me a list?
• 1:19
Speaker 6: Oh well, let's let's just even go further than what
• 1:22
Speaker 6: you're trying to tear down this route. I'm gonna I'm
• 1:24
Speaker 6: gonna give you some background information. So ESPN and I
• 1:30
Speaker 6: kind of was aware of this, but I wasn't. I
• 1:31
Speaker 6: didn't think it was official, but it really is. So
• 1:34
Speaker 6: every year this time of year, in July, ESPN compiles
• 1:38
Speaker 6: this list and it's actually Jeremy Fowler is the one
• 1:43
Speaker 6: that leads it, and he gives out this survey of
• 1:47
Speaker 6: over to over seventy league executives, coaches, scouts, all these
• 1:52
Speaker 6: different people that are associated with the NFL, and they
• 1:56
Speaker 6: compile the top ten quarterbacks going into the summer camps
• 2:01
Speaker 6: and the twenty twenty six NFL season. Okay, so I'm
• 2:05
Speaker 6: just going to read the list and then I'm gonna
• 2:07
  Speaker 6: let you.
• 2:09
Speaker 3: And Collins either you as a quarterback, Hollis, you as
• 2:13
Speaker 3: a quarterback, you have you know, you have some pluses here,
• 2:19
Speaker 3: So we'll see, we'll see what you're thinking.
• 2:21
Speaker 5: All right, got you?
• 2:23
Speaker 6: Okay, So you guys can either agree, disagree whatever you
• 2:26
Speaker 6: want to do with this. Okay. So this is ESPN's list,
• 2:29
Speaker 6: like I said, and it's compiled by all these different
• 2:31
Speaker 6: people associated with the league. Number one Josh Allen, number two,
• 2:37
Speaker 6: Patrick Mahomes number three, Matt Stafford number four, Joe Burrow
• 2:42
Speaker 6: number five, Lamar Jackson. Number six is Dak Prescott. That
• 2:47
Speaker 6: pains me to say that number seven is Justin Herbert,
• 2:51
Speaker 6: eight is Drake May, nine is Jared Goff, and ten
• 2:55
Speaker 6: is Caleb Williams, which is also another painful one for
• 2:58
Speaker 6: me to say. All right, so guys, go for it,
• 3:02
  Speaker 6: all right.
• 3:03
Speaker 4: Josh Allen to me, is not the number one, Okay.
• 3:07
Speaker 3: I just I can't get past Patrick Mahomes being number
• 3:12
Speaker 3: one because of his play and what he has done
• 3:18
Speaker 3: as a quarterback as.
• 3:20
  Speaker 4: A leader of a team.
• 3:22
Speaker 3: He I mean he basically when he started, when you
• 3:26
Speaker 3: started hearing his name, all of a sudden, his team
• 3:30
  Speaker 3: becomes notable.
• 3:31
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: So to me, I don't think there's anybody else on
• 3:36
Speaker 3: the list that could say that they changed the whole
• 3:41
Speaker 3: dynamic of their team.
• 3:43
Speaker 6: Hmm, Hollis jump in buddy.
• 3:47
Speaker 5: All right, well I think.
• 3:52
Speaker 6: Yes, yes we can here.
• 3:53
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, I think you know, I like the
• 3:56
Speaker 5: names on the list. I don't necessarily agree with the order.
• 4:02
Speaker 5: I wouldn't necessarily have Josh Allen number one for me. Also,
• 4:05
Speaker 5: I can see the argument. However, there's one egregious omission
• 4:11
Speaker 5: in this is that Sam Donaldson is not on the list.
• 4:14
Speaker 6: I thought that, so for me.
• 4:16
Speaker 5: It's not necessarily about who's on the list, is just
• 4:20
Speaker 5: that guy's not on the list. And I don't know
• 4:22
Speaker 5: how you have a guy who's won a super Bowl,
• 4:26
Speaker 5: last year's super Bowl winner and also prior to that,
• 4:29
Speaker 5: when fourteen to two playoffs. So if we're looking at
• 4:33
Speaker 5: just again we're talking historic, guess something different. But if
• 4:37
Speaker 5: we're talking short term, like in the now, he has
• 4:41
Speaker 5: to be on the list. So that would be my
• 4:44
Speaker 5: biggest takeaway from it.
• 4:46
Speaker 3: Okay, now let me ask this question. Okay, and I'm
• 4:50
Speaker 3: giving you your problems as a QB of this list
• 4:54
  Speaker 3: though I don't see I can't see how. Okay, let
• 5:00
Speaker 3: me let me define it this way. I look at
• 5:03
Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes and what he has achieved in Kansas City,
• 5:10
Speaker 3: how he has done it, and I think that to
• 5:15
Speaker 3: me brings into a factor that's not a stat it's leadership.
• 5:22
Speaker 3: And I think that piece of his ability to turn
• 5:27
Speaker 3: that program around as a notable team, to me, I
• 5:34
Speaker 3: think it's something that I don't think any of these
• 5:36
Speaker 3: other players have done.
• 5:38
Speaker 5: Okay, go ahead, No, I was just saying, I think
• 5:44
Speaker 5: it's not necessarily necessarily about that. If we look at
• 5:47
Speaker 5: any of those guys, all those guys have, They'll say,
• 5:51
Speaker 5: I think we're just talking about like who's going to
• 5:53
Speaker 5: be far as the best, you know coming into this season.
• 5:58
Speaker 5: And I would agree, I would agree with the list.
• 6:01
Speaker 5: I don't know if I would have your number two
• 6:02
Speaker 5: or whatever, but I don't think he's the number one,
• 6:05
Speaker 5: considering he's got hurt, Considering Kansas City's always had sort
• 6:11
Speaker 5: of a lack of weapons, so I could see the
• 6:15
Speaker 5: argument for him not being number one.
• 6:18
Speaker 6: Okay, I'm going to throw this out there to everybody
• 6:21
Speaker 6: before Matt gives his I want Matt's opinion on this
• 6:24
Speaker 6: as well. But this is this is something that I
• 6:27
Speaker 6: found in the research today. When it comes to this
• 6:29
Speaker 6: actual survey and the people that completed it, fifteen percent
• 6:34
Speaker 6: of those voters kept my Homes out of their top three,
• 6:37
Speaker 6: not just one and two out of their top three.
• 6:40
Speaker 6: And their reasons. The reasons were with some you know,
• 6:44
Speaker 6: they're citing lingering effects from hints, which I guess they're
• 6:47
Speaker 6: referring to, you know, you know, his late season ACL
• 6:52
Speaker 6: tear last year and other you know, concussions and such,
• 6:55
Speaker 6: and the tendency to choose big plays or chase big plays.
• 7:01
Speaker 6: I thought that was the whole purpose of an NFL
• 7:03
Speaker 6: quarterback is to chase big plays. Now, why are they
• 7:06
Speaker 6: holding that against Mahomes?
• 7:08
Speaker 3: Well, I'll even ask this question, why are they holding
• 7:12
Speaker 3: his injuries? Because let's let's talk about where prior to
• 7:16
Speaker 3: him getting his first major injury, how good was he then?
• 7:21
Speaker 3: Where was he taking that Kansas City team? Like, because
• 7:24
Speaker 3: all of a sudden, everybody's like, who is that quarterback?
• 7:26
Speaker 3: Like what's going on in Kansas City? Like how is
• 7:28
Speaker 3: this happening now all of a sudden, He's been around
• 7:32
Speaker 3: for a while, and now we're now we're trying to
• 7:36
Speaker 3: I'm going to say, downplay him, and I just don't
• 7:39
Speaker 3: think that you can.
• 7:41
Speaker 5: Well, I think we're talking again, We're not talking historic,
• 7:44
Speaker 5: We're talking about just coming into the season. And I
• 7:46
Speaker 5: think those were those criticism was all legit because when
• 7:51
Speaker 5: you're a quarterback, you supposed you're supposed to take the
• 7:54
Speaker 5: play that's given and sometimes when you chasing a big play,
• 7:57
Speaker 5: you make mistakes. And again, if we're talking about just
• 8:01
Speaker 5: what have you done for me lately, we're talking about
• 8:04
Speaker 5: ranking going to the season, then all those criticisms are
• 8:08
Speaker 5: definitely legit, particularly the injuries.
• 8:11
Speaker 7: Here's my issue, with this.
• 8:13
Speaker 8: I have major issues with the number three of the
• 8:15
Speaker 8: number four spots on this We'll start with number four.
• 8:19
Speaker 8: We're talking about Mahomes and injuries. What about Joe Burrow. Yes,
• 8:24
Speaker 8: Mahomes was injured more recently, but ever since Joe Burrow
• 8:29
Speaker 8: has gone out and come back ready to play? What
• 8:32
Speaker 8: has he done since that one good season they had.
• 8:36
Speaker 8: My other thing here is I find it a little
• 8:39
Speaker 8: bit interesting if you scroll through this list and you
• 8:41
Speaker 8: look at the ages, there is one thing that glares
• 8:45
Speaker 8: out of everything here. Josh Allen is thirty, Patrick Mahomes
• 8:48
Speaker 8: is thirty, Matt Stafford is thirty eight.
• 8:53
Speaker 7: Then you keep on going down.
• 8:54
Speaker 8: Joe Burrow is twenty nine, Lamar Jackson is twenty nine,
• 8:59
Speaker 8: Dak Prescott is thirty two. He's a little older, but
• 9:01
Speaker 8: still not thirty eight. Justin Hurtz is twenty eight, Drake
• 9:06
Speaker 8: May twenty three, Jared Goff is thirty one, and finally
• 9:10
Speaker 8: the ten spot, Caleb Williams is twenty four. I think
• 9:14
Speaker 8: now I respect Matt Stafford a lot because I thought
• 9:18
Speaker 8: when he moved from the Lions to LA I thought,
• 9:23
Speaker 8: this guy's finally going to get what he has been missing.
• 9:26
  Speaker 7: His whole career.
• 9:27
Speaker 8: So I have mad respect for what he's done in
• 9:29
Speaker 8: the league, but I think maybe third place is kind
• 9:32
Speaker 8: of like this is sort of the veteran quarterback of
• 9:35
Speaker 8: the league right here. We're going to stick him up
• 9:37
Speaker 8: towards the top just as an homage because he's actually that.
• 9:42
Speaker 6: Good, right, It's a tribute to his longevity in the NFL,
• 9:46
  Speaker 6: you respect.
• 9:47
Speaker 8: For the career, and not necessarily what he's actually going
• 9:49
Speaker 8: to be capable of.
• 9:50
Speaker 6: Well here, I think those all legitimate points, Matt and
• 9:54
Speaker 6: thank you, but this is my problem. Like Hollis said,
• 9:58
Speaker 6: they left out okay, and I'm sorry Jordan Love. Where's
• 10:01
Speaker 6: Jordan Love in the mix here? I mean, I know
• 10:03
Speaker 6: I'm a Picker fan and that that probably colors my
• 10:06
Speaker 6: view of it, maybe a tad, but hey, we don't
• 10:11
Speaker 6: need any peanut gallery comments. I'm just kidding. So I
• 10:14
Speaker 6: really feel like, what about brock Party, Where's he? True? So,
• 10:18
Speaker 6: I mean, there are names left out and in some
• 10:20
Speaker 6: of these others, you know, Drake may come on, I
• 10:23
Speaker 6: don't think he's legitimately been in the league long enough
• 10:26
Speaker 6: to make this list. Yeah, he had an outstanding season,
• 10:30
Speaker 6: and I think, you know, Hollis is probably correct in
• 10:32
Speaker 6: we're looking at the here and now, we're looking at
• 10:35
Speaker 6: the upcoming season and the expectations of what's going to
• 10:38
Speaker 6: happen with teams in their quarterbacks. But still, I think
• 10:40
Speaker 6: you're leaving out a lot of legitimate quarterbacks that had
• 10:43
Speaker 6: good play last season.
• 10:45
Speaker 3: Prescott like, like, I mean, is he going to be okay?
• 10:51
Speaker 3: So let's let's assume he plays two more years than
• 10:54
Speaker 3: he's out the league. Is he going to be like
• 10:57
Speaker 3: one of the most notable quarterbacks we've ever gone that
• 11:00
Speaker 3: we remember that played for Dallas or even played in
• 11:03
Speaker 3: the league. I say no, Like I'm thinking about people
• 11:08
Speaker 3: if for me, I'm looking at okay. So let's say
• 11:11
Speaker 3: when you retire, and let's say you retired this season,
• 11:16
Speaker 3: how many of these players would you actually say, are
• 11:22
Speaker 3: gonna have status enough to be the Hall of Fame,
• 11:26
Speaker 3: every possible award there is they're gonna be capable of.
• 11:32
  Speaker 3: I don't think that. I think these younger guys. I
• 11:34
Speaker 3: think these younger guys they still have time. They're good,
• 11:40
Speaker 3: but they are not seasoned as as as somebody like
• 11:44
Speaker 3: a Patrick Mahomes. I'm sorry, that's just no way, but
• 11:46
  Speaker 3: you got it.
• 11:47
Speaker 5: You have to admit that Derek Prescott's going to be
• 11:50
Speaker 5: considered one of the best quarterbacks of his era. He
• 11:53
Speaker 5: may not be all time, but we cannot deny his stats,
• 11:57
Speaker 5: we cannot deny his ability.
• 11:59
Speaker 4: I'm okay with him. I'm okay, I'm okay about him.
• 12:02
Speaker 5: Say that about him.
• 12:03
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 12:04
Speaker 5: But the thing is, I think every quarterback on this list,
• 12:07
Speaker 5: they're going to be well, except for the young guys,
• 12:09
Speaker 5: and we're talking about established guys. They're going to be considered.
• 12:13
  Speaker 5: I agree, that's in the era. I agree again, they're
• 12:16
Speaker 5: all not going to be all times.
• 12:17
Speaker 3: I agree, But like I said, the young ones, I
• 12:21
Speaker 3: don't know where you put the what would make you
• 12:24
Speaker 3: put them in this list?
• 12:26
Speaker 5: But who else would you pick? You can't You would
• 12:28
Speaker 5: you not pick Caleb Williams in this list? He deserves it.
• 12:32
  Speaker 5: You have to because he's a He's a If we're
• 12:34
Speaker 5: looking at top ten quarterbacks going into next season, he's that.
• 12:37
Speaker 5: There is nobody above him as far as going into
• 12:40
Speaker 5: the season. So I think, like I said, I think
• 12:42
Speaker 5: with the and I would I would agree with Matt
• 12:45
Speaker 5: that maybe Joe Burrow He's maybe the one that I
• 12:48
Speaker 5: would say, probably take him off the list. Just just
• 12:51
Speaker 5: because he really hasn't or the team hasn't done much
• 12:54
Speaker 5: just that Super Bowl season, and they have all the weapons.
• 12:57
Speaker 5: When we talked about weapons, they have some legitimate weapons
• 13:00
Speaker 5: that a lot of those other teams had. So, like
• 13:02
Speaker 5: I said, I said, you have to put some of
• 13:04
Speaker 5: the young kids, because again they Drake May, Caleb Williams,
• 13:08
Speaker 5: they had great season last season, so you can't deny that.
• 13:11
Speaker 6: All right, I'm going to argue about the Doc Prescott pick.
• 13:14
Speaker 6: I'm sorry, when was the last time last time he
• 13:16
Speaker 6: led the Cowboys to the soup or to a playoff game?
• 13:20
Speaker 6: When was the last time that the Dallas Cowboys under
• 13:24
Speaker 6: the leadership of Doc Prescott made a playoff even a
• 13:27
Speaker 6: wild card? It's been a minute, right, I think so,
• 13:32
Speaker 6: So if we're looking at going into the season, they
• 13:36
Speaker 6: didn't even make the playoffs last year. So if that's
• 13:40
Speaker 6: the case, if we're not looking at their whole body
• 13:42
Speaker 6: of work, how do you justify putting him on there? Okay,
• 13:45
Speaker 6: I can justify Caleb Williams that the Bears made a
• 13:47
Speaker 6: deep run into the playoffs, right, So that's that. We'll
• 13:51
Speaker 6: take that one. Yeah, But I'm not taking Dic because
• 13:55
Speaker 6: and I'm sorry Cowboy fans. I know they're probably going
• 13:57
Speaker 6: to be you know, I'm drinking the hater ade. But
• 14:01
Speaker 6: I mean, honestly, if we're if we're looking at, you know,
• 14:05
Speaker 6: the past seasons, what they've done in the past, what
• 14:08
Speaker 6: they've accomplished, and what to expect this coming, you know,
• 14:11
Speaker 6: twenty twenty sixth season, is that not legitimate?
• 14:15
Speaker 7: Well here's the thing to think about though.
• 14:18
Speaker 8: You do kind of have to look at his stats
• 14:20
Speaker 8: a little bit, because I mean, yes, the quarterback is
• 14:23
Speaker 8: a major piece of it, but maybe it reflects more
• 14:27
Speaker 8: so the missing pieces that have been in Dallas, because
• 14:31
Speaker 8: I mean he has let's say, here's four seasons with
• 14:34
Speaker 8: four thousand passing yards and thirty touchdown passes. That is
• 14:39
Speaker 8: the sixth most all time behind Drew Brees, Manning, Brady
• 14:43
  Speaker 8: Rogers and Phil.
• 14:44
Speaker 5: Rivers's and Derek Prescott has the black cloud over him,
• 14:51
Speaker 5: which is Jerry Jones. So I thought about what piece
• 14:55
Speaker 5: he has is what he has to deal with, and
• 14:57
Speaker 5: I think Dray Jones has made the situation almost untenable
• 15:01
Speaker 5: for any quarterback. So to Matt's point, you got it,
• 15:04
Speaker 5: I mean, statistically speaking, he's put them in a position
• 15:08
Speaker 5: to win. They just, like I said, for whatever reason,
• 15:11
Speaker 5: and I would blame my I will point to Jerry Jones.
• 15:13
Speaker 5: They haven't, you know, gotten over the hump?
• 15:16
Speaker 3: Well I would Jerry Jones could probably take a whole
• 15:18
Speaker 3: host of blame for a lot of a lot of
• 15:21
  Speaker 3: Dallas's issues.
• 15:25
Speaker 4: Who of of this, of this list, hollis.
• 15:30
Speaker 3: The the oldest two or three players?
• 15:37
Speaker 4: Is there somebody? Is there?
• 15:39
Speaker 3: Is there a possibility that there could be some uh,
• 15:42
Speaker 3: a younger player that let's say, if this list will
• 15:46
Speaker 3: come out again right after this season, would would those
• 15:51
  Speaker 3: guys be gone?
• 15:53
  Speaker 7: Do you think?
• 15:53
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 15:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you're going to have a couple of guards.
• 15:56
Speaker 5: Like I say, Matthew Stafford, he's winding down, so I
• 16:00
  Speaker 5: don't think he'll be there, let's all. And I gotta
• 16:02
Speaker 5: say this. I gotta say this because when we talk about,
• 16:06
Speaker 5: you know, leading to the playoffs and getting the big win,
• 16:09
Speaker 5: I think we gotta start questioning Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
• 16:13
Speaker 5: Great individual players, and like I said, I think they'll
• 16:15
Speaker 5: maintain themselves on the list, But when we talk about
• 16:18
Speaker 5: it's time to get over the hump, if any teams,
• 16:21
Speaker 5: we gotta talk about those two. So I would say,
• 16:24
Speaker 5: you know, those three quarterbacks to me, would be on
• 16:27
Speaker 5: the bubble as far as you know, making us maybe
• 16:32
Speaker 5: top five is from even making the list, particularly when
• 16:34
Speaker 5: it comes to Matthew Stafford.
• 16:36
  Speaker 7: Do you so.
• 16:38
Speaker 3: Anybody everybody on this list now come Super Bowl time
• 16:46
Speaker 3: or let's even say playoff time, if you're not in
• 16:50
Speaker 3: that playoff time, there's no way you are on this list.
• 16:54
Speaker 6: No, that's not necessarily true, because I think so. Doc
• 16:57
Speaker 6: Prescott's on there and they didn't make the playoffs slash year,
• 17:01
Speaker 6: which right did help me if I'm correct me if
• 17:06
Speaker 6: I'm wrong, did the Bengals make the playoffs this past
• 17:08
Speaker 6: year and he's on the list. So, I mean, I
• 17:12
  Speaker 6: don't think that that it's it's a body of work
• 17:14
  Speaker 6: of the team.
• 17:16
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not okay with you know, I'm just
• 17:19
Speaker 3: saying like I'm not I'm looking at the list and
• 17:22
Speaker 3: I'm not sure that I'm okay with a whole lot
• 17:24
Speaker 3: of the names. I'm thinking it's pop To me, it's
• 17:29
Speaker 3: popular names, notable names, and not necessarily the work. You
• 17:34
Speaker 3: might not have. Actually, you might not have ten top quarterbacks.
• 17:39
Speaker 3: You may only have five, Well you gotta have. You
• 17:42
Speaker 3: might only have five you might have. You know what
• 17:46
Speaker 3: happens if they said, Okay, well we want to do fifteen.
• 17:50
Speaker 3: Could there be fit? Do you think there could be fifteen?
• 17:54
Speaker 3: I mean, could there be five other quarterbacks that you
• 17:56
Speaker 3: could add into this list?
• 17:58
Speaker 6: I mean, I would reduce the list on thank you.
• 18:00
Speaker 6: I mean, I think ten is a bit much, you know,
• 18:04
Speaker 6: especially when you get to the bottom of the list.
• 18:06
Speaker 6: And I think a lot of these these players, I mean,
• 18:08
  Speaker 6: they're interchangeable. I mean, I think I think, you know,
• 18:11
Speaker 6: some of them are ranked too low or too high.
• 18:14
Speaker 6: I'm okay with Josh Allen. I mean, I feel like
• 18:17
Speaker 6: Josh Allen. They make the playoffs consistently, the Bills get there,
• 18:20
Speaker 6: they get close to the super Bowl. Mahomes make you
• 18:23
Speaker 6: know they get there too, you know. And when Alan's
• 18:27
Speaker 6: on his a game, he's unstoppable basically, you know, he's
• 18:31
Speaker 6: cut down on his turnovers. The future's bright for him
• 18:35
Speaker 6: and for the Bills.
• 18:36
Speaker 5: But but the thing about Alan is like when they lose,
• 18:39
Speaker 5: it tends to be his fault. When they losing the
• 18:42
  Speaker 5: big game, it's a fumble, it's a pick, it's a
• 18:46
Speaker 5: mishap that directly attributes to him.
• 18:51
Speaker 3: Okay, and if you okay, and I'm okay with that,
• 18:56
Speaker 3: But I'm thinking as.
• 18:57
Speaker 4: They're ranking them, they're ranking them.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: In the in their order. Is that or is it?
• 19:03
Speaker 3: Or do we just think so? So Josh allen Is
• 19:06
Speaker 3: is number one on the.
• 19:09
Speaker 6: List according to all of coaches executives. It's you know,
• 19:14
Speaker 6: going back to who voted, it's seventy league executives, coaches
• 19:18
  Speaker 6: and scouts.
• 19:20
Speaker 8: Well the couple other things to look at to the
• 19:22
Speaker 8: lowest dranking anyone gave him out of that whole group
• 19:25
Speaker 8: was fourth, and he was ranked number two last year.
• 19:29
Speaker 8: So I mean he's been consistently up there, at least
• 19:32
Speaker 8: the last couple of seasons.
• 19:33
Speaker 6: M I think it'll be interesting, we should we should
• 19:37
Speaker 6: revisit this list when it comes Super Bowl time and see,
• 19:41
Speaker 6: you know how it plays out.
• 19:42
Speaker 3: But or even we could even say playoff time.
• 19:45
Speaker 6: Well that's true too.
• 19:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, who's not going to be there?
• 19:49
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I think it's uh, you know, worth
• 19:52
Speaker 6: worth time. But yeah, so anyway, I thought that was
• 19:55
  Speaker 6: a good topic to h to touch on. What's what's
• 19:57
Speaker 6: what else are we going to talk about tonight, mister Lee?
• 20:01
Speaker 3: Well let me well, let me ask this question, all right,
• 20:07
  Speaker 3: we're gonna, We're gonna. I'm gonna I'm gonna no, No,
• 20:10
Speaker 3: I'm gonna, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go to Kate.
• 20:12
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to Caitlin Clark. Okay, now this has
• 20:19
Speaker 3: been this has been a ongoing topic, discussion, argument, all
• 20:29
Speaker 3: of those things about who and what she is. My
• 20:35
Speaker 3: my complaint, Well, let me first say, I'm a huge fan.
• 20:40
Speaker 3: We know, yeah, I'm a huge fan.
• 20:43
Speaker 6: You've made that perfectly.
• 20:44
  Speaker 3: I'm a huge fan.
• 20:45
Speaker 6: Caitlyn can do no wrong in Carle.
• 20:48
Speaker 3: My only problem, my only problem if if if I
• 20:53
Speaker 3: were going to say that, you know, something could change,
• 21:02
Speaker 3: I would I wish that she would ignore, not the physicality.
• 21:10
Speaker 3: That's the officials problem. Okay, I don't even want her
• 21:13
Speaker 3: to say anything to any of those players. You're you're
• 21:17
Speaker 3: too good in my view, You're above them. Don't let
• 21:22
Speaker 3: them bring you down to you. Just get on the court,
• 21:25
Speaker 3: play your game, and and and go home. I don't
• 21:30
Speaker 3: want you to go out there and try to match
• 21:32
Speaker 3: words with them and all of that kind of stuff
• 21:36
Speaker 3: she does. I think she does sometimes and I think it,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: I know it, And there's no way to say you
• 21:41
Speaker 3: don't get frustrated. There's no way because you're always getting
• 21:44
Speaker 3: pushed and shoved and all that kind of stuff.
• 21:46
  Speaker 4: I just don't want her.
• 21:47
Speaker 3: I just don't want her because what happens if she
• 21:51
Speaker 3: says something, she does something, now people are gonna say
• 21:56
Speaker 3: she's just like them, she's part of that converse say
• 22:00
Speaker 3: she's part of that division because now they're all talking
• 22:07
Speaker 3: about each other. I don't want her to get it.
• 22:10
Speaker 3: I don't want her to get into a into this
• 22:14
Speaker 3: match of matching disrespect. I don't want her to do
• 22:19
Speaker 3: that because she doesn't have to. Her game speaks for itself.
• 22:22
  Speaker 6: Hollas well.
• 22:26
  Speaker 5: I mean, I think you know, that's that's kind of
• 22:29
Speaker 5: part of her personality as far as she's not she's
• 22:32
Speaker 5: a feisty player, right So I think that, yeah, that's
• 22:35
Speaker 5: part of her personality because as much as she takes it,
• 22:37
Speaker 5: she gives it as well. And I think, you know,
• 22:40
Speaker 5: as far as the other you know, women in the league,
• 22:43
  Speaker 5: I think there's a bit of frustration because she's not
• 22:46
Speaker 5: the best player in the league. You know, she may
• 22:47
Speaker 5: not be top tiers as far as in the w
• 22:50
Speaker 5: n b A, as far as talent on the court
• 22:52
Speaker 5: or best player, right now.
• 23:03
Speaker 4: To get your cut out of the show.
• 23:06
Speaker 5: Popular player. But she's certainly not you know, championship Brady,
• 23:11
Speaker 5: she's not agent well, she's not those other players. So
• 23:13
Speaker 5: there's some frustration on that end because she is getting
• 23:16
Speaker 5: the bulk up the attention, so not based off of
• 23:20
  Speaker 5: what's happening on.
• 23:21
Speaker 6: The st So Holi Sud, do you think it's the best? Holisud?
• 23:26
Speaker 6: Do you think is the best player in the in
• 23:28
Speaker 6: the w NBA right now?
• 23:30
Speaker 5: It's clear Aja Will she's the best player in the
• 23:32
  Speaker 5: w n B A and she's embarking on becoming one
• 23:35
Speaker 5: of the best women's basketball players of all time. It's
• 23:38
Speaker 5: not it's without doubt she's the best. Well, you talked
• 23:42
Speaker 5: about statistics, we talk about championships. She's it.
• 23:46
Speaker 8: She's averaging twenty five and a half points a game
• 23:48
  Speaker 8: this season.
• 23:49
  Speaker 7: Wow.
• 23:50
Speaker 4: And and and here's what I'll say.
• 23:52
Speaker 3: Here's what I'll say about Caitlyn. Okay, So I'm going
• 23:59
Speaker 3: to make the case that while all those other things,
• 24:03
Speaker 3: those things matter and all that, she is by far
• 24:06
Speaker 3: the best shooter. In my book, she's the best shooter.
• 24:11
Speaker 3: And like Steph Curry, sometimes you don't win championships, but
• 24:19
Speaker 3: there's no question about who is the best shooter. And
• 24:22
Speaker 3: to me, most people.
• 24:24
Speaker 5: Enjoy everyone championships. Huh, Steph Curry won a bunch of championships.
• 24:31
Speaker 3: But again, I just believe, I wholeheartedly believe that her
• 24:38
Speaker 3: shooting has brought more attention to to the to the
• 24:45
Speaker 3: w NBA than anybody's actual play.
• 24:51
Speaker 6: I'm going to jump in here, you know, I'm not
• 24:53
Speaker 6: going to argue about, you know, who is the best
• 24:56
Speaker 6: player in the w NBA. I do think she is
• 24:59
Speaker 6: the most impactful. The Caitlin Clark effect, so to speak.
• 25:05
Speaker 6: The things that she has done to bring more attention
• 25:07
  Speaker 6: to the w n B A is just as important
• 25:09
Speaker 6: as her play on the court. She may not be
• 25:12
Speaker 6: remembered as the best player, but people will remember her
• 25:15
Speaker 6: for the impact that she has had for the league
• 25:19
Speaker 6: and women's basketball in general.
• 25:22
Speaker 3: I'm with you there, and it's this and to me
• 25:26
Speaker 3: it is it is so to your point, hollis, if
• 25:30
Speaker 3: she's not the best, My problems, my problem with that
• 25:37
Speaker 3: in some degree is why is she taking all of
• 25:41
Speaker 3: this punishment? Why are why is she physically being beat up,
• 25:48
Speaker 3: tossed around and all of that foul?
• 25:51
Speaker 4: Yes, why why is.
• 25:53
Speaker 5: That the same the same reason Michael Jordan took you,
• 25:56
Speaker 5: the same reason. Any young superstar is going to take
• 26:00
Speaker 5: that punishment when you're coming in.
• 26:01
Speaker 4: So you're comparing her to Michael Michael Jordan.
• 26:05
Speaker 5: I'm comparing it to Michael Jordan on the fact that
• 26:08
Speaker 5: when you come in and you're held as something, but
• 26:11
Speaker 5: yet you haven't shown and proved that, and your and
• 26:14
Speaker 5: your attention, your money, your your endorsements are superseding that
• 26:19
Speaker 5: of established stars. Of course, is gonna be so victrial.
• 26:23
Speaker 5: Of course, people are going to be in a fielding.
• 26:25
Speaker 5: Of course, you're gonna get the best every night. So
• 26:29
Speaker 5: you're gonna get whoever's defending you, whoever team you're playing,
• 26:32
Speaker 5: They that team knows that the odds are gonna be
• 26:35
Speaker 5: on that game because she's playing in it. So you're
• 26:38
Speaker 5: gonna get the best every night. So that's something you're
• 26:40
Speaker 5: gonna have to deal with. The question with her is
• 26:42
Speaker 5: is that in the next two, three, four years, can
• 26:45
Speaker 5: you overcome that and can you take that team to
• 26:48
Speaker 5: win a championship, Because what we gotta remember, she's yet
• 26:51
Speaker 5: to win championships. She didn't win win in college, she
• 26:54
Speaker 5: didn't win She's not a champion as far as winning
• 26:56
Speaker 5: the big one. So that's the question when her question
• 27:00
Speaker 5: of whether this or out of that, can you take
• 27:03
Speaker 5: that punishment, can you take everything that's going on and
• 27:06
Speaker 5: flipp it to like what Michael Jordan or Steph Curry
• 27:09
Speaker 5: or Lebron James into championship.
• 27:11
Speaker 8: SV Matt, Well, it sounds like from what I from
• 27:17
Speaker 8: what I got out of what Hollis said there, it
• 27:19
Speaker 8: sounds like I think he believes there's potential there, but
• 27:23
Speaker 8: she hasn't realized any of it yet. I mean, it's
• 27:25
Speaker 8: not that she's having a bad year. I was looking
• 27:27
Speaker 8: over some of her stats here. She's number two and
• 27:31
Speaker 8: assists in the league. She's got seven point assists per
• 27:33
Speaker 8: seven point eight assists per game. She's averaging twenty points
• 27:37
Speaker 8: a game, shooting thirty three percent behind the three point
• 27:41
Speaker 8: arc forty two percent on the field. She's shooting eighty
• 27:44
Speaker 8: five percent of her free throws, so she's kind of
• 27:48
Speaker 8: playing an all around game. She's not necessarily leading in
• 27:52
Speaker 8: any stat category. But I mean, when you pile all
• 27:55
Speaker 8: that up together, I mean, she's doing okay.
• 27:59
Speaker 6: And I'm gonna ask to that, Matt. I'm glad you
• 28:01
Speaker 6: brought up her stats, but think about and I'm not
• 28:03
Speaker 6: saying that. You know, professional athletes probably all deal with
• 28:09
Speaker 6: this to a degree, but for her, the pressure of
• 28:12
Speaker 6: the media noise that she deals with every single game,
• 28:16
Speaker 6: it's unprecedented. I mean, you think about it. You know,
• 28:19
Speaker 6: she's under that media microscope, and you know sometimes that overshadows,
• 28:24
Speaker 6: you know, her actual basketball play. It also makes the
• 28:27
Speaker 6: other players single her out, you know, want, like like
• 28:31
Speaker 6: Holli said, want to play their best, you know, to
• 28:34
Speaker 6: show that they're better than her. And you know, the
• 28:37
Speaker 6: toll mentally on her and her teammates on the Indiana
• 28:41
Speaker 6: Fever it's got to be you know, it's got to
• 28:44
Speaker 6: affect all of their mental games. I'm not saying it's
• 28:46
Speaker 6: an excuse. I'm saying it might contribute to the fact
• 28:49
Speaker 6: that they're not winning the championships. Yet it's a lot
• 28:52
  Speaker 6: to deal with.
• 28:55
Speaker 4: And I think and we've heard this through the media.
• 29:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, And so I'm gonna be comfortable in saying having
• 29:10
Speaker 3: having being white and being such a great player, some
• 29:15
Speaker 3: of the black players don't like it. That's just that's
• 29:20
Speaker 3: that's true. In my book, I feel like that's part
• 29:25
Speaker 3: of the reason, part of the reasons why she's getting
• 29:28
Speaker 3: knocked down, stepped on, kicked, all those kinds of things.
• 29:33
Speaker 4: Is because of who she is and how she looks Alas,
• 29:38
Speaker 4: there's no there's no there's no follow up on that
• 29:40
  Speaker 4: is no.
• 29:42
  Speaker 5: I think it's it's not just we can't tape purely
• 29:44
Speaker 5: because she's white. I mean, obviously that has to do
• 29:48
Speaker 5: as far as her marketability. You know, obviously when we
• 29:51
Speaker 5: come to endorsements and being like a you know, so.
• 29:54
Speaker 3: What you're saying, So if you get more marketing than
• 29:59
Speaker 3: I get, you get you get put out there more
• 30:01
  Speaker 3: than I do, then I'm I'm I'm gonna take that
• 30:03
Speaker 3: out on the field against you.
• 30:06
  Speaker 5: I'm a I'm a cheap shot one hundred. That's what's
• 30:09
  Speaker 5: going on. Like I said, it's like she's she's ascended
• 30:13
Speaker 5: to the face of the league based on a number
• 30:15
Speaker 5: of things except for a championship, except Will being the
• 30:19
Speaker 5: best player and any those players don't have a problem with.
• 30:23
Speaker 7: Well, it's not just tailoring Clark too.
• 30:25
Speaker 8: Think about like Sophie Cunningham and the twenty two second
• 30:29
Speaker 8: pointing thing that she did with Dowanna Bonnas a few
• 30:32
  Speaker 8: weeks ago.
• 30:33
Speaker 7: I mean, talk about a viral w NBA moment.
• 30:37
Speaker 4: And and and and again.
• 30:39
Speaker 3: What is interesting to that point is that this has
• 30:44
Speaker 3: been able to be something. It's happening, and it's being basically,
• 30:51
Speaker 3: it's okay, it's okay. You know, you may you may,
• 30:54
Speaker 3: you may get thrown out of game, you may get
• 30:56
Speaker 3: a foul, you might get something like that.
• 30:58
Speaker 4: But this ship, this should be.
• 31:00
Speaker 3: This is something that I think you have to stop
• 31:03
Speaker 3: because you're going to get somebody physically hurt that because
• 31:09
Speaker 3: of the cheap shots and things that are taking place.
• 31:12
Speaker 5: A professional athlete. They are because I, because I could
• 31:16
Speaker 5: say the same thing about is intended to be in
• 31:19
Speaker 5: the face of the league not necessarily deserve me.
• 31:22
Speaker 4: So is a cheap shot. It doesn't make any difference.
• 31:26
Speaker 3: It does not make It's not okay to do a
• 31:28
Speaker 3: cheap shot, even if drop.
• 31:32
  Speaker 5: But I wouldn't. I wouldn't say cheap shot. I would
• 31:34
Speaker 5: say the players are playing hard.
• 31:36
Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, come on, hollers, come on you brother, Okay,
• 31:43
Speaker 3: how do you how do you punch somebody in the
• 31:45
Speaker 3: throat as an accident company with that? Because because I
• 31:53
Speaker 3: might have that accident tomorrow with you, Like, how is
• 32:00
Speaker 3: that possible? Oh boy? That is that is you can't
• 32:05
Speaker 3: you can't sell me on that. I'm sorry, and I.
• 32:09
Speaker 6: Think I think basically it comes down to the fact
• 32:11
Speaker 6: that when we when people have conversations about Caitlin Clark,
• 32:15
Speaker 6: she is culturally polarizing period, yes, and people see her
• 32:20
Speaker 6: as this you know, lightning rod for you know, conversations
• 32:25
Speaker 6: about gender, about race, rivalries and and it all plays
• 32:30
Speaker 6: out on the court. And these girls, you know, they're human.
• 32:34
Speaker 3: The bad thing about the rivalry piece is the rivalry
• 32:38
Speaker 3: is to me, if I have a rivalry against you,
• 32:41
Speaker 3: it's because how good you are. And you know, me
• 32:45
Speaker 3: and Sterling had a rivalry, right, you know, but but
• 32:48
Speaker 3: we were still able to be friends, great friends. Right
• 32:51
Speaker 3: in this situation, this has gotten out of hand because
• 32:57
Speaker 3: players who because she's getting that attend she's getting all
• 33:01
Speaker 3: the attention, sucking it all up. She probably is the
• 33:05
Speaker 3: most notable player in the WNBA, and these individual other
• 33:11
Speaker 3: these other individual players don't like it. So now they're
• 33:16
Speaker 3: taking it out on her. She didn't write the article.
• 33:20
Speaker 3: She's not writing article. She's the one who the somebody's
• 33:25
Speaker 3: writing those articles about her, saying this about her.
• 33:27
Speaker 4: She's not saying it about herself.
• 33:29
  Speaker 3: This is all.
• 33:29
Speaker 6: Media, I agree, like I said, she's under the media microscope.
• 33:33
Speaker 6: That's just part of her role.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: And the individuals who get up kick her, put your
• 33:41
Speaker 3: your your fist in her neck like that kind of
• 33:44
Speaker 3: stuff makes no sense to me. And and what are
• 33:47
Speaker 3: you trying to do? Are you trying to hurt her?
• 33:50
Speaker 3: Because if you hurt her and she's out of the league,
• 33:52
Speaker 3: I'm not sure you're going to have the same the
• 33:56
Speaker 3: same amount of attention that you had before.
• 33:58
Speaker 6: I was just going to say that I know that
• 34:00
Speaker 6: there's some rivalry pieces you know, out there, and the
• 34:03
Speaker 6: and the cultural polarization of her, but let's just face it,
• 34:07
Speaker 6: the WNBA has benefitted greatly from the acquisition of Kaitlyn Clark.
• 34:12
Speaker 6: I mean you look at it. You've got you know,
• 34:14
Speaker 6: it's boosted attendance, the games, merchandise sales, you know, viewership
• 34:20
Speaker 6: on TV media, RTEs, all those things. You know, they're
• 34:23
Speaker 6: even drawing in the non traditional basketball fans because they're
• 34:28
Speaker 6: curious to see, you know what all this hooplaw is
• 34:31
Speaker 6: about this player, Kaitlyn Clark. So there's all positives these girls,
• 34:36
Speaker 6: you know, these women I shouldn't say girls. Women do
• 34:39
Speaker 6: not want to see her get hurt and permanently put
• 34:41
Speaker 6: out of the league because it's just going to hurt
• 34:42
Speaker 6: all of them in the long run.
• 34:44
  Speaker 4: I don't think that they see that. I don't think
• 34:45
Speaker 4: that they see that.
• 34:46
Speaker 3: I don't think they even Actually some of them don't
• 34:49
Speaker 3: buy it because they think they can be the one.
• 34:53
  Speaker 4: I'm the one.
• 34:54
Speaker 3: Who's going to be the face if she gets hurt,
• 34:57
Speaker 3: she gets out, she's not playing. I can be the
• 34:59
Speaker 3: face of the league. But I don't think so.
• 35:03
  Speaker 4: I don't think.
• 35:04
Speaker 5: I don't think that they can carry.
• 35:05
Speaker 4: I don't think they can carry.
• 35:06
  Speaker 5: I don't, I don't. I don't think they think like that.
• 35:08
Speaker 5: They're just playing hard. And I think, like I said,
• 35:11
Speaker 5: once she wins a championship, or she at least starts
• 35:13
Speaker 5: to get to championships, all this noise to be dead.
• 35:16
Speaker 5: It's just the fact that the matter is just like
• 35:18
Speaker 5: I said, you got all the attention. So yeah, you're
• 35:20
Speaker 5: gonna get your attention. Everybody's gonna play hard against you.
• 35:23
Speaker 5: And I think that once she gets over the hump,
• 35:26
Speaker 5: starts to get the conference championships and w NBA championships,
• 35:30
Speaker 5: all this to be in the distant path.
• 35:32
Speaker 3: All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna switch a subject,
• 35:35
Speaker 3: still with her, Okay, still with her, and and maybe
• 35:38
Speaker 3: even just a w NBA what impact, how big of
• 35:45
Speaker 3: an impact is Caitlyn Clark and or the w n
• 35:50
Speaker 3: B A having on young women, young girls wanting to
• 35:57
Speaker 3: play basketball? The gross margins of where women's basketball has gone,
• 36:05
  Speaker 3: whether whoever the reason it's gone, it's it's it's growing.
• 36:10
Speaker 3: But I want to say that impact is Caitlin Clark.
• 36:16
Speaker 5: I disagree with that totally. No, no, no, no, I know.
• 36:22
  Speaker 5: Here's the thing though, here's a thing. I don't dismiss
• 36:25
Speaker 5: Caitlin Clark's impact on the game, but I think what's
• 36:29
Speaker 5: called the greatest impact, and I think what's causing little
• 36:32
Speaker 5: girls to want to aspire to be that is because
• 36:36
  Speaker 5: the w n B A has found his personality, It's
• 36:39
Speaker 5: found his style. You got to remember, prior to this
• 36:42
Speaker 5: era of w NBA players, all the women would try
• 36:45
Speaker 5: to like mimic the guys, So they would dress like
• 36:48
Speaker 5: the guys, they would play like the guys, and it
• 36:51
Speaker 5: will kind of just be like a uh, you know,
• 36:53
Speaker 5: a mimic of the of the men's and boys games.
• 36:56
Speaker 5: Now you have women coming to the to the arena,
• 37:00
Speaker 5: you know, in solettos and being dawned up looking like supermodel.
• 37:04
Speaker 5: So I think girls now are looking at it will saying, hey,
• 37:07
Speaker 5: I could still be a woman. I could still be myself.
• 37:10
Speaker 5: I can still have that era femininity, but I can
• 37:13
Speaker 5: go out there and ball as well. So there's a
• 37:15
Speaker 5: dichotomy that they they've created within that. So I think
• 37:19
Speaker 5: to me, that's the biggest impact of kind of this
• 37:24
Speaker 5: era of WNBA players.
• 37:27
Speaker 6: Okay, I'm going to throw my two cents in here, guys.
• 37:30
Speaker 6: So I feel like with the WNBA also when whenever
• 37:36
Speaker 6: they originally started the league, which I can't remember, it
• 37:40
Speaker 6: escapes my mind how many years ago it was. But
• 37:43
Speaker 6: wasn't it at a different time of the year. Wasn't
• 37:45
Speaker 6: it during the same period of time that the NBA
• 37:49
Speaker 6: was going on when they originally started. Help me, guys,
• 37:53
Speaker 6: if you if you know that, because my point is
• 37:55
Speaker 6: if it wasn't I think moving it to the summer,
• 38:00
Speaker 6: you know, this time of year when you know, the
• 38:03
Speaker 6: kids are out of school, the girls are out of school,
• 38:05
Speaker 6: they can stay up late and watch the game with
• 38:08
Speaker 6: mom and dad. You know, it's the availability of it
• 38:13
Speaker 6: I think has helped the WNBA grow and get those
• 38:16
Speaker 6: little girls to you know, watch and want to be
• 38:20
Speaker 6: like the players that they see, not just necessarily Caitlin Clark.
• 38:23
Speaker 6: She may have been the original reason they started watching,
• 38:26
Speaker 6: but it's kind of you know, I agree with Hollis
• 38:28
Speaker 6: to it to a point too. These girls are supermodels.
• 38:31
Speaker 6: I mean they go out there. You know, They've got
• 38:33
Speaker 6: their own type of style, their own type of game different,
• 38:36
Speaker 6: completely different from the NBA. And I think having this
• 38:39
Speaker 6: time of year to kind of you know, promote what
• 38:43
Speaker 6: they're doing and play and be able to be seen
• 38:46
Speaker 6: without interference from a lot of other men's sports, I
• 38:50
Speaker 6: think that contributes to you know, people watching and the
• 38:54
Speaker 6: little girls getting those role models and becoming interested.
• 38:57
Speaker 8: Would you believe twenty nine years now? Way nineteen ninety
• 39:01
Speaker 8: seven was the first age?
• 39:04
  Speaker 5: Are?
• 39:05
  Speaker 4: Gosh?
• 39:06
Speaker 6: Yeah, do you know the time of year it originally started?
• 39:09
  Speaker 7: I don't, but I think it's shifted around.
• 39:11
Speaker 8: I think, especially in those early seasons, I think they
• 39:15
Speaker 8: kind of moved the starting end dates around to kind
• 39:17
Speaker 8: of figure out where it would slot.
• 39:19
Speaker 5: In there, right, And I think like the popularity of
• 39:25
Speaker 5: women's college basketball helped too, because within I was like
• 39:29
Speaker 5: probably the last ten years women's college basketball has been everything.
• 39:33
Speaker 5: It's like now when they're looking at like revenue generating sports,
• 39:37
  Speaker 5: it's like, you know, it's football, men's basketball, women's basketball.
• 39:41
Speaker 5: And in some cases when you look at like a Tennessee,
• 39:44
Speaker 5: when you look at a Yukon, when you're looking at like,
• 39:47
Speaker 5: you know, USC women's basketball might be like that second
• 39:51
Speaker 5: revenue generating sports. So I think college basketball, like you,
• 39:56
Speaker 5: like at least you mentioned happened just that full access
• 40:00
Speaker 5: and now kind of we know these women behind the scenes,
• 40:02
Speaker 5: You're getting to know their personality. Social media certainly helps
• 40:06
Speaker 5: you know what I mean. So, like all that's a
• 40:09
  Speaker 5: contributing factors.
• 40:11
  Speaker 4: I'm wondering.
• 40:12
Speaker 3: I'm wondering when and or if, like I know, you know,
• 40:18
Speaker 3: and my involvement with youth is, you know, youth sports, and.
• 40:24
Speaker 4: I'm trying to figure out when is there a time or.
• 40:29
Speaker 3: Is there is there going to be an opportunity to
• 40:32
Speaker 3: be able to create a youth sports program with basket
• 40:37
Speaker 3: female basketball to get enough females female players to play.
• 40:44
Speaker 5: I think if you often because I know, like Saint
• 40:47
Speaker 5: Alfins has a league or just just girls.
• 40:50
Speaker 4: How many teams do you know how many teams they have?
• 40:53
Speaker 5: I don't know how many teams they have. I think
• 40:55
Speaker 5: they're the only ones.
• 40:56
Speaker 3: I think you're right because I do renounce you said that.
• 40:58
Speaker 3: I think I remember somebody saying that.
• 41:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, because I because I know I would like to definitely,
• 41:03
Speaker 5: because I know my girls playing your league, and I
• 41:05
Speaker 5: would love to have this all female, you know league,
• 41:09
Speaker 5: so they can you know, be on equal footing.
• 41:11
Speaker 3: That might be that may be something worth worth working on,
• 41:14
Speaker 3: because you know, I think you know, and I don't
• 41:19
Speaker 3: know if everywhere around the country has women's girls youth
• 41:25
Speaker 3: basketball to play, but but it is something that needs
• 41:29
Speaker 3: to happen for those young ladies.
• 41:31
Speaker 5: Definitely have it. Yeah, they definitely have it. Just about
• 41:35
Speaker 5: particular like if we can get the numbers up, you
• 41:38
Speaker 5: know what I mean.
• 41:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so I would again. I would like to
• 41:44
Speaker 3: think though that the numbers may come simply because because
• 41:52
Speaker 3: women's basketball now, the popularity of it, I think it
• 41:58
Speaker 3: could be slow, you know what I'm saying, But I
• 42:02
  Speaker 3: think I could.
• 42:03
Speaker 4: I can't imagine it not growing.
• 42:07
Speaker 5: Because yeah, the only problem, like I said, I think
• 42:09
Speaker 5: you definitely have the interest and the support a lot
• 42:13
Speaker 5: of like I know, a bunch of little girls that
• 42:14
Speaker 5: play basketball. The problem with that is just we use sport.
• 42:18
Speaker 5: It's just this is a different conversation, but it's just
• 42:21
Speaker 5: generally so much going on at one time, like kids
• 42:24
Speaker 5: playing two or three sports and that the one season,
• 42:27
Speaker 5: you know what I mean. Yeah, and that kind of
• 42:28
Speaker 5: hurts the participation overall for any sport, not just women's
• 42:33
Speaker 5: use sports, girls sport.
• 42:34
Speaker 6: But summer they should maybe you know, do a reflection
• 42:37
Speaker 6: of the of the w NBA. Maybe have it during
• 42:39
Speaker 6: the summer rather than the winter. I know traditionally, you know,
• 42:42
Speaker 6: you have basketball leagues that are in the winter, but
• 42:44
Speaker 6: for girls, you know, summer might be a good time.
• 42:48
Speaker 3: Good point, Yeah, I would think, I would think so.
• 42:50
Speaker 3: And again I think that you know, we have you know,
• 42:54
Speaker 3: with with you sports. I think, well, let's just say
• 42:58
Speaker 3: sports in general, we've we've taken it and created this
• 43:05
Speaker 3: kind of a monster. And you know, teams are you know,
• 43:10
Speaker 3: or leagues are moving into summer balld and it's and
• 43:16
Speaker 3: it's and it's literally getting to a point where you
• 43:18
Speaker 3: could play basketball year round.
• 43:20
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 43:22
Speaker 8: You know, you have to think a little bit too
• 43:23
Speaker 8: about the creation period for women's sports. I mean it
• 43:27
Speaker 8: came after boys and men's sports, so I mean think
• 43:31
Speaker 8: about like way after yeah, yeah, think about the progression
• 43:35
Speaker 8: of like final scores for games in the NBA. I
• 43:39
Speaker 8: mean you go back into like the seventies and eighties.
• 43:42
Speaker 8: I mean, a high scoring game was going to be
• 43:46
Speaker 8: like eighty nine to ninety two final score. You're talking
• 43:49
Speaker 8: about games now where I mean there were NBA Finals.
• 43:52
  Speaker 7: Games this year.
• 43:53
Speaker 8: I think one of them, the Knicks had like one
• 43:54
Speaker 8: hundred and forty points or something like that.
• 43:57
Speaker 7: And that's just normal now.
• 44:00
Speaker 8: That's an extra fifty points a game now in twenty
• 44:04
Speaker 8: twenty five, twenty twenty six, twenty twenty seven that were
• 44:07
Speaker 8: not being scored thirty forty fifty years ago. You have
• 44:10
Speaker 8: to think that the WNBA is going to go through that, say,
• 44:13
Speaker 8: the game is going to get faster for the women
• 44:16
Speaker 8: just like it has for the men.
• 44:17
  Speaker 7: It's just not it's not a this hasn't happened yet.
• 44:21
  Speaker 3: Yeah, And and and I think that's that's that's that's
• 44:24
Speaker 3: a true fact there. And I think we shouldn't we
• 44:29
Speaker 3: shouldn't wait to try to grow it and let it
• 44:33
Speaker 3: quote grow on its own. We've got we should be proactive.
• 44:37
Speaker 3: The individuals who are part of that need they need
• 44:41
Speaker 3: to start talking about women's basketball from from a young
• 44:47
Speaker 3: age all the way through, because if you don't, it's
• 44:52
  Speaker 3: gonna be hard.
• 44:53
Speaker 4: You know, it's gonna be hard for them to make
• 44:54
  Speaker 4: the adjustment.
• 44:55
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 44:56
  Speaker 3: I'm I'm at the rec center, so I see I
• 44:58
Speaker 3: see different young girls that are down down at the
• 45:01
Speaker 3: wreck plant, you know, and.
• 45:05
Speaker 6: Which is awesome because I remember in my day, we
• 45:08
Speaker 6: really didn't have an opportunity to play any type of
• 45:11
Speaker 6: really a sport, sid's cheerleading, uh, you know, volleyball or
• 45:16
Speaker 6: basketball until we hit back then it was junior high. Yeah,
• 45:20
Speaker 6: you know, and then you're so far behind because the
• 45:22
Speaker 6: boys have been playing Little League, you know, for all
• 45:24
Speaker 6: during all this time and nobody and look at it,
• 45:29
Speaker 6: right right, yeah, yeah.
• 45:30
Speaker 8: Well another sport on kind of the same idea here
• 45:33
Speaker 8: soccer here in the Canal Valley.
• 45:36
Speaker 7: A lot of the high schools.
• 45:37
Speaker 8: In our area really didn't start getting soccer teams until
• 45:40
Speaker 8: what the nineties made. Yeah, and that kind of came
• 45:43
Speaker 8: from both genders at the same time.
• 45:46
  Speaker 7: Now you're talking.
• 45:47
Speaker 8: About University of Charleston, Marshall, University WVU, all in championship
• 45:53
Speaker 8: discussion all the time at the college level, and you
• 45:56
Speaker 8: have to think that some of that's got to be
• 45:58
Speaker 8: because of what's going on here at the rec league
• 46:00
Speaker 8: in the middle and high school levels as well. But
• 46:03
Speaker 8: that's a sport that came way later, right and has exploded.
• 46:07
Speaker 6: It has, it really has.
• 46:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, we you know, I think when it comes to
• 46:13
Speaker 3: the beginning of sports, of getting started in basketball, getting
• 46:20
Speaker 3: started in football, getting started in baseball, I do buy
• 46:24
Speaker 3: into the youth as as as young as possible to
• 46:29
Speaker 3: some degree, just because so they can they have time
• 46:34
Speaker 3: to develop. Because if you get if by the time
• 46:37
Speaker 3: you're in in middle school, you kind of got to
• 46:43
Speaker 3: already have some fundation, have some fundamental set and and
• 46:48
Speaker 3: and and effective for you to be good enough to
• 46:52
Speaker 3: get to high school and now have an opportunity to
• 46:55
Speaker 3: maybe to get to college. If you wait too long,
• 46:59
Speaker 3: you have to be a naturally gifted athlete or you're
• 47:04
  Speaker 3: just gonna fall.
• 47:04
Speaker 4: It's just gonna be it's gonna you're gonna fall short. Yeah.
• 47:09
  Speaker 3: So I don't know, but I I just I just
• 47:12
Speaker 3: think that I think that the that the women's sports
• 47:16
Speaker 3: to me, I am, I am a strong supporter of
• 47:21
Speaker 3: women's sports. Park and and.
• 47:24
Speaker 6: The reason I'm gonna get you a Caitlyn shirt for Christmas.
• 47:29
Speaker 4: And the reason that I am that is just because
• 47:32
  Speaker 4: of Caitlin Clark.
• 47:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, but it took to that point. I think
• 47:38
Speaker 5: like women's sports, and again, you definitely need to cut
• 47:42
Speaker 5: Kayler Clark. Don't get it confused. You need to get
• 47:44
Speaker 5: Kaitlin Clark's in all sports. But I think what we're
• 47:46
Speaker 5: starting to see is just like women's sports are just
• 47:50
Speaker 5: ultra competitive, and I think they have a competitive fire
• 47:55
Speaker 5: that that some of the men's sports don't are high.
• 48:01
  Speaker 7: On that.
• 48:01
Speaker 5: And I tell you the two sports to watch out
• 48:05
Speaker 5: for the next ten years that I think are going
• 48:07
Speaker 5: to be major is a softball and women's flag football.
• 48:13
Speaker 5: I think, along with basketball, I think those could be
• 48:16
Speaker 5: the three major women's sports. And I'm talking about where
• 48:20
Speaker 5: they they're going to pack our stadiums.
• 48:23
Speaker 6: So I like the softball for sure.
• 48:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, and and I.
• 48:28
Speaker 6: Mean the flag football that that's gonna take a little longer,
• 48:31
Speaker 6: don't you think college just because of the fact that
• 48:33
Speaker 6: it's not like, I mean, where is it happening. Is
• 48:36
  Speaker 6: it collegiate or.
• 48:37
Speaker 5: Because everybody Okay, yeah, they're starting to have it at
• 48:42
Speaker 5: at the youth and at some high schools. Are starting
• 48:44
Speaker 5: to have like club sports, are starting to have club sports,
• 48:48
Speaker 5: and also it's in the Olympics as well, So I
• 48:51
Speaker 5: don't and I say the men's are in the Liberal
• 48:54
Speaker 5: I don't know if they have a women's flag football yet,
• 48:55
Speaker 5: no mess, but I think flag is because when we
• 48:58
Speaker 5: look at the days, it's a football different things of that. Sure,
• 49:00
Speaker 5: that is an alternative, you know, just overall, but I
• 49:04
Speaker 5: think fought for specifically for women. It's fun to watch.
• 49:08
Speaker 5: If you've never seen it.
• 49:09
Speaker 3: Do you could you see? Could you see a merger
• 49:11
Speaker 3: of football and flag football at the young level, at
• 49:14
Speaker 3: the youth level, just for the safety, specifically for safety,
• 49:22
Speaker 3: and then kind of I think gradually bring them into
• 49:25
Speaker 3: show the pads and helmets and all that kind of stuff.
• 49:28
Speaker 5: In my conjecture, I think that's what should happen. I
• 49:31
Speaker 5: think when you're five, six, seven, eight, then you know
• 49:36
Speaker 5: you nine, maybe used to be playing like some some
• 49:40
Speaker 5: symbolance of some inner ration of flag football, and then
• 49:43
Speaker 5: as you moved to like fourth or fifth grade, that's
• 49:45
Speaker 5: what you start to do. The past. In my opinion,
• 49:47
  Speaker 5: I think that's fight was already happened. I don't think
• 49:50
Speaker 5: you need to be slapping hamlets at years old.
• 49:54
Speaker 3: And and you know, and again I do the youth
• 49:57
Speaker 3: sports for the city of South Charleston, and I think
• 50:00
Speaker 3: that that I think that the safety issue is enough,
• 50:06
Speaker 3: it is present enough to try to change that, you know,
• 50:11
Speaker 3: from you know, like you said, a kid.
• 50:14
Speaker 4: Playing at five, a kid playing at six, you know, And.
• 50:17
Speaker 6: And the earlier you start those hits, the more stones exactly,
• 50:23
Speaker 6: you know, the earlier you start that, the more likely
• 50:25
Speaker 6: you're going to have and the concussions pile up on
• 50:28
Speaker 6: each other and then more risk for CTE and the
• 50:31
Speaker 6: things that come along and hitting.
• 50:35
Speaker 4: And the facts the facts of that.
• 50:39
  Speaker 7: Is proof.
• 50:39
Speaker 3: I mean guys who have played football from me, like
• 50:43
Speaker 3: I played football and in at the youth level, junior high,
• 50:48
Speaker 3: high school, collegues, DA DA, da DA, and you can't
• 50:53
Speaker 3: it and for the amount of all that contact, right,
• 50:57
  Speaker 3: it's just you know, it's it's it's not good for
• 51:00
  Speaker 3: It's not healthy.
• 51:00
Speaker 4: You know, it's just not healthy.
• 51:01
Speaker 5: And and I think we have too many irresponsible coaches, right,
• 51:06
Speaker 5: So I think football to me, number one, no, no, not,
• 51:11
Speaker 5: he shouldn't be like banging and doing all that hitting
• 51:14
Speaker 5: and practice number one of those dumb Oklahoma drills and
• 51:16
Speaker 5: different things of that nature. And I would say football,
• 51:20
Speaker 5: to me, where we're losing at the at the youth
• 51:22
Speaker 5: level is that we're too like preoccupied with winning and
• 51:27
Speaker 5: not development. When you look at or you look at
• 51:29
Speaker 5: baseball and soccer and football, I mean, of course they
• 51:32
Speaker 5: want to win, but dude, you're not. I mean, you
• 51:35
Speaker 5: want to tempership with eight year olds? I mean, great,
• 51:37
Speaker 5: that's awesome, but do they know how to do they
• 51:39
Speaker 5: know the fundamentals as they move up to the next level.
• 51:42
Speaker 5: And I think football has got to get to that
• 51:44
Speaker 5: place where it's not about winning, it's just about development
• 51:48
Speaker 5: and teaching the right methodologies and not you know, hitting
• 51:53
Speaker 5: crazy and doing scilly things.
• 51:55
Speaker 3: And to that point, that's the that's that's the parent
• 51:58
Speaker 3: that's mad at after the game is over because you're
• 52:01
Speaker 3: lost and maybe your kid didn't play or didn't play enough,
• 52:05
Speaker 3: or made a mistake or something like that, and the
• 52:08
Speaker 3: coach got on them, so now they're they're mad. I
• 52:12
Speaker 3: think we've gotta we gotta quit worrying about the mistakes.
• 52:17
Speaker 3: At the youth level, we just you know, we just
• 52:20
Speaker 3: need to have them playing, have a good time. And
• 52:24
Speaker 3: it doesn't even and and you know, it could be
• 52:26
Speaker 3: clock running, it could be you know, just anything, just
• 52:31
Speaker 3: to have them out there and get them through it.
• 52:33
Speaker 8: At the end of the day, when somebody's talking about
• 52:37
Speaker 8: you at your funeral, are they gonna mention that you
• 52:39
Speaker 8: were the sixth grade rec league champion.
• 52:42
Speaker 7: No, No, nobody's gonna remember that.
• 52:45
  Speaker 5: No.
• 52:46
Speaker 7: That should just be for the love of the game exactly.
• 52:49
Speaker 4: And I'll say that, I'll say this to that.
• 52:53
Speaker 3: You don't want to be the person who's going out
• 52:56
Speaker 3: because of your memory.
• 52:57
Speaker 4: You don't want to. You don't want to, like you know,
• 53:00
Speaker 4: and like I said, I have memory issues. All right.
• 53:03
Speaker 8: So were you diagnosed when you were in the league?
• 53:06
Speaker 8: Did you have any officially diagnosed concussions. I'm sure you
• 53:10
  Speaker 8: probably had them.
• 53:10
Speaker 3: And nobody, nobody had ever said to me, No trainer
• 53:16
Speaker 3: ever said to me that I had a concussion.
• 53:19
  Speaker 7: Wow.
• 53:20
Speaker 3: And I know for a fact, and I have all
• 53:23
Speaker 3: my tapes, so I've gone back to see it.
• 53:26
Speaker 4: I've gone back to see it.
• 53:28
Speaker 6: That doesn't mean they didn't. They just didn't call them that.
• 53:31
Speaker 4: I'm knocked out. I'm knocked out on the field.
• 53:34
Speaker 3: My footed one leg is up, my hands are up,
• 53:38
Speaker 3: and my neck is up and I'm laying on my back.
• 53:42
Speaker 3: I'm I'm back in the game in three or four plays.
• 53:46
Speaker 3: I didn't even after the game. I did not even remember,
• 53:50
Speaker 3: not a play in the game.
• 53:52
  Speaker 6: Wow.
• 53:54
Speaker 7: Wow. Because the protocol is obviously way different.
• 53:57
Speaker 4: Now, it's way better.
• 53:59
Speaker 3: But if you have that, if that, if that happens
• 54:04
Speaker 3: to you, no, you're not going back in the game, right,
• 54:09
Speaker 3: You're You're done for this game. There is no there
• 54:14
Speaker 3: is no getting back in the game. Because he's your star.
• 54:19
  Speaker 3: You can't do that. That's just that's just, that's not
• 54:23
Speaker 3: that's not because now what you're doing is you're doing
• 54:25
Speaker 3: that for you. And don't say you're doing it for
• 54:28
Speaker 3: the team, because if the team loses, the team loses, everybody.
• 54:31
Speaker 4: Is lost, right, you know.
• 54:34
  Speaker 6: But it's a team effort.
• 54:36
Speaker 3: So support the support that accident, that injury, and we'll
• 54:41
Speaker 3: take that hell to day that that's the easiest way
• 54:45
  Speaker 3: to do it.
• 54:46
Speaker 6: Yeah. For the for the health and safety of everybody involved.
• 54:50
Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely absolutely, And I'm telling you, if if I'm
• 54:54
Speaker 3: a parent and I see it, if I see my
• 54:56
Speaker 3: child laying on the turf, hit to the head, head
• 55:02
Speaker 3: hit the ground and he's laying there or she's laying
• 55:05
Speaker 3: there if that coach does not take him out of
• 55:10
Speaker 3: the game for the rest of the game, and probablyline
• 55:15
Speaker 3: I'm coming to the make sure he's sitting on the bench,
• 55:20
Speaker 3: or we're going home. I'm gonna take him home. And
• 55:25
Speaker 3: and and and we we just have to do we
• 55:27
Speaker 3: have to do better in looking at those types of
• 55:31
Speaker 3: things and paying attention to them and and not acting
• 55:36
Speaker 3: like we were it's about winning, because no, it's not.
• 55:40
Speaker 3: It's it's about teaching, that's all it is. It's about teaching.
• 55:44
Speaker 3: You get up to the higher levels. Now it's about winning, Okay,
• 55:49
Speaker 3: Youth sports is not about winning, just about teaching having fun.
• 55:54
  Speaker 7: Period.
• 55:56
Speaker 4: So that's my rant.
• 55:58
  Speaker 6: That's a good rant. I'm with you.
• 56:01
  Speaker 7: All right.
• 56:02
Speaker 3: Well, Hollisa, are you still there? You got anything you
• 56:06
Speaker 3: want to close before we close out?
• 56:09
Speaker 5: Nah Man, good discussion today.
• 56:11
Speaker 3: Alrighty, all right, ladies and gentlemen. We're gonna get out
• 56:14
Speaker 3: of here, and we appreciate your time. We'll see again
• 56:16
  Speaker 3: next week.
