- 0:01Speaker 1: Jet Legwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:05Speaker 1: two five Pro Football.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The insider I've covered while Jeff.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Legwall he's the balloon popper.
- 0:12Speaker 2: He doesn't blow it up.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Brought to you VIY the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 1: i BDW Local sixty eight. Start with the chomp and
- 0:19Speaker 1: with the career. It's Leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:25Speaker 1: two five. Yeah, it is jet Legwall. Time here on
- 0:30Speaker 1: a Monday after noon. Broncos Browns coming up, uh, just
- 0:33Speaker 1: after six o'clock tonight on Monday night football. Great stuff
- 0:39Speaker 1: from our guy Leggy today on ESPN dot com. So, Jeff,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I gotta I gotta start with this question because I
- 0:46Speaker 1: feel as though you're often loathed to make these kind
- 0:49Speaker 1: of proclamations. The headline for your piece today on ESPN
- 0:54Speaker 1: why Patzertan might be the best Broncos cornerback ever You
- 0:59Speaker 1: are a Bailey respector through and through? Uh? Was that
- 1:04Speaker 1: an editor's choice or are you co signing on that headline?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Jess, You know that the U those guys did say it. Really,
- 1:15Speaker 2: they said, if he does what he's doing right now
- 1:19Speaker 2: for a long time, Uh, that he will be and
- 1:23Speaker 2: even even Champ you know, begrudgingly said not begrudgingly that
- 1:29Speaker 2: he admires Certain's game immensely. But uh, you know, Louis
- 1:33Speaker 2: writs let said it. You know, if he if he
- 1:36Speaker 2: has a long career, the way he's playing now, he
- 1:40Speaker 2: should well be the best Bronco corner ever, which is
- 1:43Speaker 2: saying an awful lot that had some of the best
- 1:46Speaker 2: of the best to do it. Uh, But uh, I
- 1:49Speaker 2: just thought it was an interesting Uh Initially, I just thought,
- 1:53Speaker 2: you know what I'm gonna I'm gonna touch base with
- 1:56Speaker 2: the with the four best Bronco corners I know and
- 2:01Speaker 2: see what they say. You know, I'm not going to
- 2:03Speaker 2: get in the way. I'm just gonna see what they say.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And I thought the things they said were fairly amazing
- 2:09Speaker 2: about the young guy. And it just shows you, uh,
- 2:13Speaker 2: sort of a texture of Cirtan's game that maybe we
- 2:16Speaker 2: don't see all the time that they do because they
- 2:19Speaker 2: you know, obviously know what they were doing at the position.
- 2:23Speaker 1: This is a year where you can dig through the
- 2:25Speaker 1: numbers and any variety and what's this is one of
- 2:29Speaker 1: the good things about you know, the pro football focused
- 2:32Speaker 1: next gen stats True media World that we live in here, Leggies,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you can really find out the kind of numbers that
- 2:38Speaker 1: quarterbacks and receivers are putting up against Patrick's or tan
- 2:41Speaker 1: uh when he is in coverage, and his numbers are
- 2:45Speaker 1: absolutely unbelievable. But he doesn't have the interception totals like
- 2:51Speaker 1: is Patrick's er tan ever going to be able to
- 2:54Speaker 1: do enough to perhaps get Defensive Player of the Year
- 2:57Speaker 1: recognition because he's been the best player one of the
- 3:00Speaker 1: NFL's best defenses.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think, you know, in a perfect world,
- 3:05Speaker 2: he'd be in the conversation. You know, he's playing his
- 3:08Speaker 2: position as well as anybody else is playing theirs. But
- 3:14Speaker 2: you know, corner, you know, Champ Bailey didn't win the
- 3:16Speaker 2: award when he intercepted ten passes and that year I
- 3:21Speaker 2: vividly remember I charted all of those games, and I
- 3:25Speaker 2: believe I had Champ in Bandaman situations like thirty some
- 3:31Speaker 2: times for the whole season that people threw the ball
- 3:35Speaker 2: at him, and he intercepted ten passes that year and
- 3:40Speaker 2: he still didn't win. I just I remember that being
- 3:45Speaker 2: if he couldn't win it that year with that season,
- 3:48Speaker 2: I think it's very difficult for sort of a non
- 3:51Speaker 2: pass rusher, non middle linebacker type to win it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: All right, what was your favorite story or your favorite
- 4:01Speaker 3: little piece about him, maybe even something that didn't make
- 4:04Speaker 3: the article. You've been excited about this article, you've told
- 4:06Speaker 3: me for the last couple three weeks. What was your
- 4:09Speaker 3: favorite little anecdote you got from any of the guys
- 4:12Speaker 3: about him or involving him. I don't know really how
- 4:14Speaker 3: to put it.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, no, just andy, just the way they talked about him.
- 4:20Speaker 2: These guys are phenomenal. I mean, two of them are
- 4:23Speaker 2: all decade players, which is you know, other than the
- 4:27Speaker 2: Hall of Fame, is usually the biggest honor playing on
- 4:31Speaker 2: a player can receive in some ways, so, you know,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and just to hear them talk about this guy, none
- 4:39Speaker 2: of it was you know, well he's got to prove
- 4:43Speaker 2: it to me, or he's a young guy. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 2: none of it was that. It was just a respect
- 4:49Speaker 2: from the best guys to ever do it in the
- 4:52Speaker 2: Bronco uniform to the to the player of today. And
- 4:56Speaker 2: I think sometimes we think of older play players thinking,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you know, no one in today's game can play football correctly.
- 5:04Speaker 2: You know, it's just kind of a perception sometimes, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: all players today, but there was none of that. And
- 5:11Speaker 2: just to hear Louie Wright talk about sitting in the
- 5:15Speaker 2: stands and watching Pettertertan warm up because he just can't
- 5:21Speaker 2: believe it. I think those types of things really really
- 5:24Speaker 2: resonated with me. And you know, I love the Chris Harris.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You know he walks out to the coin flip like
- 5:30Speaker 2: it all pro I mean, that's just that just says
- 5:33Speaker 2: it all from those guys.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Jeff Lagweld with us here on a Monday, Jeff Lagwell,
- 5:39Speaker 1: brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 5:42Speaker 1: IBEW Local sixty eight. Start with the job, end with
- 5:45Speaker 1: a career, Jeff, I mean lost in the Patricks or
- 5:48Speaker 1: Tan LoveFest is the part with the Broncos have had
- 5:51Speaker 1: two really good corners so far this season. One of them, though,
- 5:54Speaker 1: is out tonight. No Riley Moss in this game. How
- 5:58Speaker 1: is that going to impact the plan? Dealing with Jerry Judy,
- 6:04Speaker 1: who has played very well of late David and Djoku
- 6:08Speaker 1: and anything else that the Browns have to throw at
- 6:12Speaker 1: us tonight.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You know, I think that Nate, I think they feel
- 6:16Speaker 2: like you know, Levi Wallace is a veteran defender and
- 6:21Speaker 2: you know when training camp started. You know, the competition
- 6:24Speaker 2: between him and Moss, and the coach's eyes was pretty even,
- 6:27Speaker 2: so they feel good about him filling in that spot. Now.
- 6:32Speaker 2: He isn't as physically strong as Riley Moss and and
- 6:36Speaker 2: even as athletic in certain parts of the coverage as
- 6:41Speaker 2: Riley is as a as a younger player. But the
- 6:45Speaker 2: issue I think will come is if the Browns elect
- 6:49Speaker 2: to push the Broncos into the dime once in a
- 6:52Speaker 2: while with with their formations, because without Riley Moss, they've
- 6:57Speaker 2: lined up in the dime with three safeties and sometimes
- 7:01Speaker 2: that can be you can get exposed in the passing
- 7:05Speaker 2: game doing that. But fortunately most most offenses don't get
- 7:10Speaker 2: the Broncos into the dime unless the Broncos are in
- 7:14Speaker 2: a third and long and they want to rush the
- 7:15Speaker 2: passer like crazy. So the Broncos have done it on
- 7:19Speaker 2: their terms so far. But if the Browns somehow gained
- 7:23Speaker 2: some control and can force the issue, that that would
- 7:26Speaker 2: be something to look out for, and you know, I
- 7:29Speaker 2: think they you know, the other concern would be defending
- 7:33Speaker 2: the run out of the nickel because Riley Moss is
- 7:36Speaker 2: such a good tackler and such a strong player. That.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You know, if they start, if they keep the game
- 7:43Speaker 2: in a rhythm where they can just pound Nick Chubb
- 7:46Speaker 2: at you against your nickel defense, I think that would
- 7:49Speaker 2: be another spot that the Broncos would have concern.
- 7:54Speaker 3: What do you expect out of bow Nicks tonight? What
- 7:55Speaker 3: do you expect out of the Broncos game plan? You know,
- 7:58Speaker 3: we've gone through this stretch of defenses where, let's be honest,
- 8:01Speaker 3: a couple of times, specifically with Atlanta and Carolina. You
- 8:04Speaker 3: guys are sitting here, you and Nate were telling me
- 8:06Speaker 3: how bad the pass rush is, right and one of
- 8:09Speaker 3: the worst pass rushes you've ever seen. They face and
- 8:11Speaker 3: beat up secondaries. And I think it feels like Sean
- 8:14Speaker 3: Payton probably took some time to let bon Nicks, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 3: let's let's work in the pocket. And he was telling
- 8:18Speaker 3: me earlier how the rushing numbers are down. Let's let's
- 8:21Speaker 3: work on maybe working the game, working the ball down
- 8:23Speaker 3: field a little bit more. With Cleveland in town tonight,
- 8:26Speaker 3: will we see them revert back to maybe something a
- 8:28Speaker 3: little more conservative, shall I say, like they did against
- 8:32Speaker 3: Baltimore or something like that. What do you expect this evening?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah? I think Andy They're gonna try and get it
- 8:36Speaker 2: out of his hands very quickly because you know, Jim Schwartz,
- 8:40Speaker 2: the defensive coordinator for the Browns, uh it is a
- 8:43Speaker 2: long time defensive coach, one of the early, one of
- 8:49Speaker 2: the very early coaches on the in the analytics revolutions,
- 8:53Speaker 2: So he will he will definitely have done his homework
- 8:56Speaker 2: about what bon Nicks doesn't like and what he does like,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and I think they will they will try to mix
- 9:03Speaker 2: coverages up aggressively and give him late looks just before
- 9:08Speaker 2: the snap, maybe bail a safety out or something else.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And then you know they're a quirky defense. They're one
- 9:16Speaker 2: of the league's worst, and yards allowed for pass play
- 9:20Speaker 2: one of the worst, but they're also one of the
- 9:22Speaker 2: best at punishing quarterbacks. So you complete passes, but you
- 9:27Speaker 2: pay the price. And you know, I think that's where
- 9:29Speaker 2: the Broncos have to figure out where the line is
- 9:31Speaker 2: because they're going to feel like they can make plays
- 9:35Speaker 2: in the passing game because people have all year, but
- 9:38Speaker 2: they will punish your quarterback if you leave them in
- 9:40Speaker 2: there too long. So I think they will definitely try
- 9:43Speaker 2: to get the ball out of his hands, move it
- 9:45Speaker 2: quickly and avoid some of those deep dropback settings and
- 9:50Speaker 2: you just let those guys come after you again, you're
- 9:54Speaker 2: probably going to be laying on the ground looking at
- 9:56Speaker 2: your completed pass. But I don't I don't think that's
- 9:59Speaker 2: the way they want to your business. Tonight.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Jeff Legwalld ESPN with us here on a Monday afternoon.
- 10:05Speaker 1: He joins us on the ramos Law hotline car accident.
- 10:08Speaker 1: You need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney visit ramos
- 10:11Speaker 1: Law dot com. Uh, Leggie, we were kicking around our
- 10:14Speaker 1: picks to click for this evening. Who do you think
- 10:18Speaker 1: is poised to have a big game in this Broncos
- 10:20Speaker 1: offense matching up against Jim Schwartz and Cleveland.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, if they if they had a tight end,
- 10:28Speaker 2: you know, regularly making plays, you'd look right there a
- 10:32Speaker 2: little bit.
- 10:33Speaker 1: The hell of a concept, right, have a tight end?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Maybe one day they'll do it again, but I didn't.
- 10:40Speaker 2: One thing that Broncos have lately is this this Marvin
- 10:44Speaker 2: Men's all over the formation because it's difficult for a
- 10:47Speaker 2: defense to sort of figure out how you tag him.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You know, if he's in the backfield, do you do
- 10:52Speaker 2: you line up and and use personnel groupings? Like he's
- 10:56Speaker 2: a running back when when really the formation is a
- 11:00Speaker 2: or a four wide receiver set. So I think that's
- 11:03Speaker 2: a spot where they can get some things if they're
- 11:08Speaker 2: savvy about it, if they have been lately, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 2: Marvin Men's on a little reel route or something. I
- 11:14Speaker 2: think those things are potential big plays, you know, waiting,
- 11:19Speaker 2: So I keep an eye on that tonight.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You know, by the time we talked to you again
- 11:24Speaker 3: this week, the decision will be made. What do you
- 11:26Speaker 3: think will be the decision on Josh Reynolds. They chose
- 11:29Speaker 3: not to active activate him for tonight, probably not a
- 11:32Speaker 3: huge surprise. I think a lot of us have talked
- 11:35Speaker 3: about how we aren't going to be shocked to find
- 11:36Speaker 3: out if there's some mental trauma there after the incident,
- 11:39Speaker 3: you know, after his time at the old Strip club there.
- 11:42Speaker 3: What do you think the plan is here? Do you
- 11:44Speaker 3: have any idea? Do you have a feel for what
- 11:45Speaker 3: they might do? Will they activate him? Is there a
- 11:47Speaker 3: chance they just let him take the rest of the
- 11:49Speaker 3: year to try to digest what happened?
- 11:52Speaker 2: You know? I think ultimately they like the chemistry they
- 11:55Speaker 2: have right now, so I think some of this will
- 11:58Speaker 2: be what's their health, like after tonight, you know, that
- 12:01Speaker 2: could impact the decision. Uh I do know there's a
- 12:05Speaker 2: school thought in the building that you know you're gonna
- 12:07Speaker 2: have to make a roster move to bring him back in.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And you know right now if if he's not going
- 12:14Speaker 2: to play special teams, that makes it a lot harder decisions.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So I think they're fairly you know, I think they
- 12:22Speaker 2: really want to see what, if anything happens tonight that
- 12:25Speaker 2: would influence their decisions. But uh I could I've heard
- 12:30Speaker 2: scenarios from in the building of it going either way,
- 12:34Speaker 2: So I guess I'm saying I don't have a great sense,
- 12:37Speaker 2: but I do know they like the chemistry of things
- 12:40Speaker 2: right now with the receiver group they have and how
- 12:44Speaker 2: they're being how they're being used.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Leggy. Last thing, this is a it's Monday Night football.
- 12:50Speaker 1: It's on a huge stage. At the same time, it's
- 12:53Speaker 1: it's the last game before the buye the Broncos with
- 12:57Speaker 1: an incredibly late bye to deal with this season, a
- 13:02Speaker 1: Cleveland team coming in at three and eight on the year,
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Broncos are almost a touchdown favorite at home. There's
- 13:08Speaker 1: a lot of elements in this game that would kind
- 13:11Speaker 1: of scream out that it could potentially be a trap.
- 13:15Speaker 1: What is the sense that you get about this team
- 13:18Speaker 1: going into this game, the focus of this group and
- 13:22Speaker 1: how Sean Payton's gotten them prepared.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Well, you know, in the parts we saw this week, Nate,
- 13:28Speaker 2: it looked pretty clean on the practice field, you know. Now,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you know, I think they know the state. You can't
- 13:34Speaker 2: have a Patriots game like last year, you know, for example,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and I think you know it's always the basic things
- 13:43Speaker 2: that get you in games like this, you know, the
- 13:45Speaker 2: bad turnover, and then Jameis Winston gives the Browns offense
- 13:50Speaker 2: a little different profile, and I think the Broncos have
- 13:53Speaker 2: enough tape on that route to understand that even if
- 13:58Speaker 2: Sean Payton can't get the messager since he coached the guy,
- 14:02Speaker 2: but he gives the Browns a different profile and offense,
- 14:06Speaker 2: and that should make people wear it because he is
- 14:10Speaker 2: he is far more willing to push the ball deep
- 14:13Speaker 2: on your defense. And you know, he's been more successful
- 14:18Speaker 2: already than they had been with DeShawn Watson in all
- 14:21Speaker 2: those other games. So I think those are the two
- 14:23Speaker 2: things avoid the bad early turnover where it takes Bonnicks
- 14:28Speaker 2: two quarters to sort of regain his composure like early
- 14:31Speaker 2: in the season, and stay away from that the home run,
- 14:36Speaker 2: you know that where he got a team in third
- 14:38Speaker 2: and eight and they popped the forty five yarder on you.
- 14:41Speaker 2: You know, they've got to avoid those two things.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald ESPN. Big night for him, Monday Night Football
- 14:47Speaker 1: on the Four Letter Network. Leggy, you got a lot
- 14:50Speaker 1: of work to do. Thanks for giving us some time today.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Thanks mos, you know, anytime for you guys, all right.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald brought to you as he always is, is
- 15:00Speaker 1: by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You start with a job, you end with a career.
