Latest / DEWA Podcasts / WETEX 2026 highlights the present and future of sustainable mobility
Transcript
- 0:00The press release presents sustainable mobility
- 0:02as an integrated ecosystem, not only more efficient
- 0:07vehicles or electric motors. It brings together
- 0:11clean energy, charging and refuelling infrastructure,
- 0:14fleet management and digital connectivity across
- 0:18the transport system. The International Energy
- 0:22Agency says global electric vehicle sales grew
- 0:25by 20%. to exceed 20 million in 2025, meaning
- 0:31one quarter of all new cars sold were electric.
- 0:35The report expects electric car sales to reach
- 0:3823 million in 2026, representing 28 % of total
- 0:43car sales. The Water, Energy, Technology and
- 0:48Environment Exhibition 2026, organised by DEWA,
- 0:52will take place from 20 to 22 October 2026 at
- 0:58the Dubai World Trade Centre. Its Green Mobility
- 1:02Zone will bring together electric and hydrogen
- 1:05vehicles, charging technologies and fleet management
- 1:09solutions. Charging infrastructure is a key pillar
- 1:14of growth. Public charging points worldwide reached
- 1:17more than 7 million at the end of 2025, an increase
- 1:22of more than 33%. In Dubai, electric vehicle
- 1:27charging points reached 2 ,223 by the first quarter
- 1:32of 2026. The number of electric vehicles in the
- 1:36Emirate reached 47 ,944 by the end of 2025. up
- 1:43from 37 ,486 a year earlier. That is an increase
- 1:49of more than 10 ,000 vehicles, or nearly 28%.
- 1:55The release also highlights Vehicle to Grid,
- 1:58or V2G, technology, which allows compatible electric
- 2:03vehicles to return stored electricity to the
- 2:07grid and support services such as load shifting,
- 2:11frequency regulation and voltage support. Fleets
- 2:16are helping accelerate adoption. Dewa and Dubai
- 2:19Taxi Company inaugurated the first phase of an
- 2:23ultra -fast charging hub with 24 charging points,
- 2:27each rated at 360 kW, capable of charging 24
- 2:32vehicles simultaneously in about 35 minutes.
- 2:37This is part of a long -term agreement signed
- 2:40at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment
- 2:43Exhibition 2025 to deploy more than 200 ultra
- 2:48-fast electric vehicle charging points for Dubai
- 2:51Taxi Company's fleet. Dubai's Roads and Transport
- 2:55Authority also aims to convert its entire public
- 2:59bus fleet to electric and hydrogen power by 2050.
- 3:04Hydrogen is presented as a complementary pathway,
- 3:08especially for heavy -duty, long -haul and high
- 3:12-utilisation transport. DEWA's Green Hydrogen
- 3:16Project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
- 3:20Solar Park is the first of its kind in the Middle
- 3:23East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using
- 3:27solar energy. Some output is used to refuel hydrogen
- 3:31vehicles at an ENOC station in Expo City, Dubai.
- 3:37His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayyar, Managing
- 3:41Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA.
- 3:44Founder and Chairman of the Water, Energy, Technology
- 3:47and Environment Exhibition said, The future of
- 3:52sustainable mobility requires building an integrated
- 3:55ecosystem that combines clean energy, advanced
- 3:59infrastructure, innovative digital technologies
- 4:03and business and investment models capable of
- 4:06accelerating the transition to a low -emission
- 4:09green economy. Expanding sustainable transportation
- 4:14is not limited to developing vehicles and advanced
- 4:18technologies. It also requires the provision
- 4:21of efficient, reliable and resilient charging
- 4:25and power supply solutions that keep pace with
- 4:29the rapid growth of cities and their evolving
- 4:31future needs. Strengthening collaboration among
- 4:36governments, companies, research institutions
- 4:39and investors is becoming increasingly important
- 4:42to accelerate the adoption of innovation and
- 4:46transform promising ideas into practical applications
- 4:50with tangible impact. Water, Energy, Technology
- 4:56and Environment exhibition provides a leading
- 4:59global platform that brings together key stakeholders
- 5:03in an environment that fosters partnerships,
- 5:06facilitates knowledge exchange and showcases
- 5:10the latest solutions and technologies which supports
- 5:14the development of smart, sustainable cities.
- 5:18In summary, the press release shows that electric
- 5:21mobility, hydrogen, Infrastructure and smart
- 5:25operations must develop together to support cleaner
- 5:28and more efficient future cities.
