- 0:05This is the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Thirty five minutes after the
- 0:14hour of The Morning Show with Preston Scott, that's Grant Allen and joining us
- 0:18on the program once again, Carl Steinbeck, and he is covering this trial
- 0:23for us, giving his expert background and analysis, is bringing it all to
- 0:28bear. I guess on the proceedings. The trial of Charlie Aedelson. Day
- 0:33four took place yesterday. Carl is former prosecutor as well as state public defender,
- 0:40military defense counsel and again our guest this morning, Carl, Good morning,
- 0:44How are you. Good morning, Preston. What stood out to you
- 0:47yesterday? If you were to kind of capsule for our listeners who are not
- 0:51able necessarily to sit by their TV or their feed and watch the trial.
- 0:56What stands out from yesterday? What's the high point? Well, yesterday we
- 1:00had a number of law enforcements asients come forward to testify, and we also
- 1:06had ritually all of the remaining of the wire taps and the other type videos
- 1:11like the Dulce Vida videotape, which is where the bump happened, and then
- 1:18we had this scramble to try to figure out what was the one who was
- 1:21this? Was it law enforcement or was it some gang members that are trying
- 1:25to extort money from the Aedelsons. So what happened was we had Charlie meeting
- 1:30with Katie in the Dulce Vida restaurant down there in the Fort Lauderdale area,
- 1:36and they were talking about what to do, and Charlie actually told Katie to
- 1:42fix this problem and if necessary, she needs to kill this person who's asking
- 1:46for the five thousand dollars. So that was really damning testimony. He also
- 1:49talked about if we knew they had evidence against us, we'd be leaving the
- 1:53country as well. So that was critical information I thought that they got in
- 1:57yesterday, but was very key is that they had in the agent. But
- 2:02two things that Wendy Agelson had said earlier in her testimony. She had stated
- 2:07that she was not unfaithful to her boyfriend Jeff Licasse, and the FBI agent
- 2:13testify that the records showed that she had been seeing somebody on a regular basis
- 2:17the whole time she was dating Jeff Laicus. And also Wendy had stated that
- 2:23there was unfettered access that Dan Markel's grand parents up in Canada, the grandparents
- 2:29of his two boys. There was visitations of approximate an average of two a
- 2:35year, but the agent testified that there was like none for a six year
- 2:38period and only recently after the state law came in at effect, the Markel
- 2:44Act was they were they starting to grant some visitations and it seemed to coincide
- 2:49with an upcoming court date. So really it really made Wendy look bad.
- 2:53And so I think the state is just really crushing it against the defense.
- 2:55The defense really doesn't have much to offer. I was going to say,
- 3:00you know that dulce vita recording. They you know, the prosecution, the
- 3:06state presented the analysis of it, how it was done, allowed for the
- 3:10cross examination of the expert that did the cleanup, if you will, of
- 3:15the audio, and the things that you've mentioned would be enough. I mean,
- 3:21I've mentioned before carl I sat on a grand jury for six months.
- 3:24There's more evidence in this case than any individual case I came across as a
- 3:30grand juror. There's more circumstantial evidence. It's just piling up. And when
- 3:34Charlie said what he did, about we'd leave the country if they had anything.
- 3:38My god, that just ends the claim that this was some extortion attempt
- 3:45against them. Oh totally. I mean, there is like no need I
- 3:50even think for the evidence yesterday, it'd have to come forward. That's how
- 3:53strong the case was in the previous days from the government's case in chief.
- 3:58So I think the government and could even wrap it up as soon as today
- 4:01and then we'll hear just from probably two witnesses from the defence and then probably
- 4:05Charlie because think about a presence. So far, they have not introduced a
- 4:10single shread of detail of how this supposed extortion blackmail scheme took effect, other
- 4:15than some general questions to Katie mcbahnwa. In between the go between between Charlie
- 4:23and the two hitmen, I had a listener right in and say what was
- 4:27interesting to her is they showed the video of the bump and a Apparently it
- 4:32was a headline of a newspaper article about the murder that was handed by the
- 4:36FBI undercover agent to Donna Adelson, and that she never ever looked at the
- 4:43paper. She just folded it up and walked away. Not the type of
- 4:46thing you would do unless you knew exactly what it was about. Right.
- 4:51That was really a brilliant move by law enforcement, because what they didn't want
- 4:56to do was scare her so much at that moment that she could maybe call
- 5:00nine to one one right there, So that there was a very soft general
- 5:02approach. He's very respectful to her and so but he told her enough it
- 5:08was it had something to do about the business up north, and just by
- 5:12that alone, she knew what this was about. She knew this was about
- 5:16the killing of Dan Mark Hill. It's so obvious to the jury. This
- 5:19is the M a D Radio network where we challenge you to make a difference
- 5:26in your world. Mad you get it, you know, try to make
- 5:30a positive influence upon others, you know, be a good person. At
- 5:34the morning show, Preston Scott forty one minutes past, Carl Steinbeck with us
- 5:45a seasoned attorney and helping us as analyst. Here the trial of Charlie Edelson,
- 5:50Carl as a prosecutor. It looks as though they are revealing evidence that
- 5:58just clinches this against Charlie Adelson. So I'm just curious, are they beginning
- 6:03to lay the groundwork in this trial for a trial against Donna, Adelson and
- 6:10Wendy Absolutely. I think the evidence is so strong against Donna right now that
- 6:17if she was sitting at the table next time, also as a co defendant,
- 6:21as a co conspirator, they would absolutely convict her as well. And
- 6:26I think the evidence against Wendy we don't have as much as a digital trail
- 6:30because they intentionally and smartly they thought kept her out of the discussions and whatnot,
- 6:38But what they failed to do was be aware of the other things that
- 6:42she was doing that indicated she was fully aware, fully on board. And
- 6:46they also presented something on very key against Wendy. When she was down there
- 6:50on July sixth, twelve days before Dana was murdered, she asked them what
- 6:56was he doing between twelve and eighteen July? And guess what he got killed
- 7:01on eighteen July. Yeah, that is remarkably damning. I'm curious, though,
- 7:08are they able to get out of the country or is there any limitation
- 7:14on Harvey, Donna, and even Wendy traveling outside the United States Unless there's
- 7:20charges brought forward and they have restrictions on travel issued by the court, they
- 7:26can freely come and go as they want right now. I had been told
- 7:30by sources quite a while back that there were recordings of Charlie Aedelson checking on
- 7:39private flying charter arrangements to leave the country, and that in fact, he
- 7:45was bugged inside an airplane. I don't have any way of knowing that was
- 7:48true, but the comment adulci Vita certainly opens the door to that being a
- 7:53possibility. My question, though, is this, if they are right now
- 8:00where they are, they're financially very well off. Would it surprise you if
- 8:05they tried flee in the country. It wouldn't surprise me at all. These
- 8:09people, I think, are very desperate at this point, having this lurking
- 8:15over their shoulder. How do you sleep good at night knowing at any moment
- 8:18we could be arrested? And I think the real pressure is going to happen
- 8:22presson is when he goes to Florida State prisons with a conviction. I think
- 8:28he's going to have a lot of problems with his own personal security. I
- 8:31think there's going to be extortion issues. I think the prisoners will know about
- 8:35him, and think about we have quite a few Arian nation types and prisons
- 8:41as well. The prisoners there will know about him, and they're going to
- 8:45know about this money, and I think they probably could put some heat also
- 8:50on the other Athelstons who are not in prison and exhort them for money as
- 8:54well, because their addresses are easily found but through Google searches. You know,
- 8:58one that has not been mentioned in this proceeding at all is the other
- 9:03brother, and he was featured in part in the podcast over My Dead Body.
- 9:11I find him an interesting person because he seems to be concerned that this
- 9:16was not beyond his family's capability, right. I think he would be a
- 9:24good witness to talk about the fine family dynamics, the family dysfunction in particular,
- 9:30Donna's extreme control and attempts to exert extreme control over the choices of spouses
- 9:37and girlfriends of the boys in particular. And he could testify personally that the
- 9:43wedge that was driven between him and somebody he loved and how Donna got made
- 9:50him believe that he needed to get rid of her and marry a Jewish gale
- 9:54and that wasn't in his heart of hearts, and he wound up leaving that
- 9:56person and going back to his first true love. His life was sort of
- 10:01messed up for a while too, so I think also would really be interesting
- 10:05is he was talking to them right after this happened, because he was still
- 10:09in constant communication with him all the other Agolson's I'm talking about, And I
- 10:13think it would be pretty revealing to see what they were telling him about what
- 10:18happened to Dan Mark Hill. And I think what they probably did is said
- 10:20we weren't going to talk about this at all. So I think whatever they
- 10:24said to him is going to be really revealing and showing that they were guilty
- 10:28parties. Do you think the prosecution brings him in before the end of the
- 10:33Charlie Aedelson trial. You know, he's on the witness list president. Whether
- 10:39they do or not remains to be seen, But you know, I think
- 10:41they got enough already so they don't have to. If they just want to
- 10:46do a little extra, and because he's there, they're going to go ahead
- 10:48and call him. But I mean, like I say, it's really a
- 10:50slam dunk case to the prosecution, and everything's going really well. The brilliance
- 10:56of the prosecution bringing all this digital evidence, all the emails, all the
- 11:01phone calls, which can be very tedious, very complex, and it can
- 11:05be very boring to the jury, It was exciting and riveting to the jury
- 11:09the way they did this, So their graphics of all this evidence was just
- 11:13phenomenal, and it was so easy for the jury to digest. So I
- 11:16think it's all going to play very well in the end for the state.
- 11:20Georgia Kapelman is very good at what she does. Carl, thanks for your
- 11:22expertise. We'll talk again tomorrow, Yes, sir, thank you. Carl
