- 0:27Speaker 2: Don't forget to get involved hashtag ft live by merchant
- 0:31Speaker 2: Foul Territory shop dot com. Lots to get into, gentlemen,
- 0:34Speaker 2: let's charge the mound.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Charge about.
- 0:41Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 0:42Speaker 2: From Ravel Does He's still out there, Ken Rosenthal reporting
- 0:45Speaker 2: that the Pirates are trying again in free agency and
- 0:49Speaker 2: their latest target is a doozy. I did not have
- 0:53Speaker 2: rombervel Does going to the Pirates AJ on my bingo car.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Perhaps he does it, but it seems like the Buckos
- 0:59Speaker 2: are interested in the Hurler.
- 1:02Speaker 1: What say you.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Prove it, prove it, prove it you're interested.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I'm interested in from Bervaldez coming and pitching for my
- 1:11Speaker 5: son's college team. He still has eligibility the way the
- 1:14Speaker 5: college basketball is going, right, so I.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Don't know, prove it. Go out and sign him. You
- 1:18Speaker 4: want him.
- 1:19Speaker 5: You're saying you want this guy and you want that guy,
- 1:21Speaker 5: and listen, you get you got Ryan O'Hearn to a
- 1:23Speaker 5: nice deal. But then you said you wanted Schwarber and
- 1:26Speaker 5: you wanted Suarez, you wanted him.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Prove it, Go get him, Go put him with.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Schemes in Jones and Keller and Bubba Chandler and throw
- 1:37Speaker 5: from Bervaldez in there as the fifth.
- 1:39Speaker 4: That's pretty good rotation. So prove it. Prove it, Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I hope the fan for the fans sake, they do
- 1:45Speaker 4: prove it, because it would be a huge upgrade for
- 1:47Speaker 4: him and Eric.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The rotation, as AJ was just mentioning, would look pretty good.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to take a look at
- 1:53Speaker 2: the projected starting rotation, if Fromber was in the mix,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I mean I would take that right obviously. Paul Schemes,
- 2:00Speaker 2: the cream of the krop, Mitch Keller, Braxton Ashcroft, Bubba Chandler,
- 2:03Speaker 2: which I just like saying that Bubba, And then how
- 2:06Speaker 2: do you say this last name? Guys, Carmen Ledinski, I mean, Aj,
- 2:10Speaker 2: you should know that sounds poolish. I like this again, though, Eric,
- 2:16Speaker 2: to AJ's point, you think this is a legitimate landing spot.
- 2:21Speaker 1: For from Bert.
- 2:24Speaker 3: No, I'm fine saying that I was wrong, Like when
- 2:28Speaker 3: the Pirates sign him, come back at me, come back
- 2:32Speaker 3: at me. The reason I say no is past history,
- 2:35Speaker 3: not even other years, because the Pirates front office ownership,
- 2:38Speaker 3: whoever's heading this is definitely making a push. But how
- 2:44Speaker 3: badly did they did they need third base offense? Henneo
- 2:47Speaker 3: Suarez was out there, couldn't quite push it past the line.
- 2:51Speaker 3: How badly did they want first base? They wanted Kyle Schwarber,
- 2:54Speaker 3: couldn't quite push it past the line. The one area
- 2:58Speaker 3: of strength where they're like or not not going to
- 3:00Speaker 3: overpay in our rotation.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Is Framber Valdez's position.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Like they're gonna have to overpay Framber Valdez for him
- 3:09Speaker 3: to go somewhere like Pittsburgh. I don't see them giving
- 3:13Speaker 3: them fifty million, I mean one hundred and fifty million
- 3:16Speaker 3: for five years or you know, somewhere in the even
- 3:20Speaker 3: ranger Suarez type, because he's gonna have to get more
- 3:24Speaker 3: if it's a one year, proven deal. He's not just
- 3:27Speaker 3: gonna say yeah, I'll take twenty two million just to
- 3:30Speaker 3: go to the Pirates. Like now, there's gonna be other
- 3:32Speaker 3: teams that will be suiting if that's where they're at.
- 3:34Speaker 6: So no, I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Apparently, the Pirates new pitching coach worked with Valdez guys
- 3:40Speaker 2: for the vast majority of the pitcher's professional career career
- 3:43Speaker 2: as both a minor and major league coach with the
- 3:45Speaker 2: Houston Astros. So there's a guy that knows him well.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Perhaps that would lend from Er got to get paid,
- 3:52Speaker 2: of course, but perhaps that would lend Fromer to want
- 3:55Speaker 2: to go to the Pirates where I mean, let's be honest,
- 4:00Speaker 2: probably not going to win the division, probably not going
- 4:02Speaker 2: to make the postseason. I may be wrong, but I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 2: how much do you think that plays into this aj?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Is it all about money for him? Does he have
- 4:09Speaker 2: to get overpaid to go there? Or does familiarity with
- 4:12Speaker 2: that guy help a little bit? Or is the calendar
- 4:15Speaker 2: starting to work against him?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Well?
- 4:17Speaker 5: I think it's a couple of things. I think the
- 4:19Speaker 5: calendar is obviously the owner's best friend, right because they
- 4:22Speaker 5: feel like they can get guys. That's why a signing
- 4:24Speaker 5: deadline would be the worst thing in the world for players.
- 4:27Speaker 5: And also familiarity, yes with the pitching coach. Yes, but
- 4:31Speaker 5: there's one thing I know from Briveldez wants to go
- 4:37Speaker 5: to a place where he can get paid. Okay, and
- 4:39Speaker 5: every free agent wants to go to a place where
- 4:41Speaker 5: he can get paid. If he gets the longest term
- 4:44Speaker 5: and the most money from the Pittsburgh Pirates, I think
- 4:46Speaker 5: from rival does goes there, this is the perfect guy
- 4:48Speaker 5: for the Pirates to go get. Okay, to shut crats up,
- 4:52Speaker 5: to shut me up, to get to shut all the
- 4:55Speaker 5: pundits out there of the Pittsburgh Pirates, go get a
- 4:57Speaker 5: top ten free agent. Yes, it might be position of strength,
- 5:01Speaker 5: but fram Ravaldes, if you sign him to a nice deal,
- 5:04Speaker 5: he goes out and performs well, and then you have
- 5:06Speaker 5: some of the other guys coming up, do you think
- 5:07Speaker 5: are gonna be great? You can always move him for
- 5:09Speaker 5: something at some point if he's signed to a nice
- 5:12Speaker 5: deal and he has a nice showing. So I love
- 5:14Speaker 5: this move. If they get it done, I don't think
- 5:16Speaker 5: they will. I think this will be the same as
- 5:18Speaker 5: schore Ber and Suarez and all these other guys. You know, listen,
- 5:22Speaker 5: they're aggressively after him. But you know who loves this
- 5:24Speaker 5: the most, Frambravaldes in his Asian Why because everyone's saying
- 5:28Speaker 5: he's going to the Orioles. He's going to the Orioles.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Now we hear blue jays are in on him, pirates
- 5:33Speaker 5: are in on him. Guess what that means. There's a
- 5:35Speaker 5: markets and now he can go back to the Orioles
- 5:37Speaker 5: and say, hey, Orioles, guess what you're Your offer of
- 5:41Speaker 5: five one hundred random numbers, not real numbers, is not
- 5:44Speaker 5: good enough. We have five one twenty or six one
- 5:46Speaker 5: twenty on the on the books here. It's a great
- 5:50Speaker 5: spot to be in if you're fram Ravaldez at this point.
- 5:53Speaker 3: What if he does sign there? Where does this rotation sit?
- 5:57Speaker 3: But where does this rotation sit? Because as Alana said, well,
- 6:01Speaker 3: probably not going to win the division. To me, I
- 6:03Speaker 3: think from Bervaldez, unlike Kyle Schwarmer, unlike Ajohineo Suarez, from
- 6:10Speaker 3: bert Valdez might push them to win the divis, push
- 6:14Speaker 3: them too close to winning the division. But that's really
- 6:17Speaker 3: the debate is is a move like this a guy
- 6:21Speaker 3: who has perect for the last four years. I think
- 6:24Speaker 3: four years made every one of his starts. The fact that, yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 3: since twenty twenty two, the fact that he has finished
- 6:32Speaker 3: in the top ten in cy Young three of the
- 6:34Speaker 3: last four years. Yes, I get the fact that he
- 6:37Speaker 3: threw at his catcher because he was pissed, because and
- 6:39Speaker 3: he might have other you know, emotional like he's an
- 6:43Speaker 3: emotional player. Him added to this rotation with Paul Skeins,
- 6:48Speaker 3: hopefully Jared Jones will stay, will be healthy, Mitch Keller,
- 6:53Speaker 3: Bubba Chandler. Do they become a top three rotation in
- 6:58Speaker 3: the game, are they a top seven rotation? And does
- 7:02Speaker 3: it push them to where they need to be because
- 7:05Speaker 3: I don't think there's enough bats available anymore for them
- 7:08Speaker 3: to push them to be a playoff team.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Why is this taking so long? A jay? I mean,
- 7:16Speaker 1: is this fromber and his agents holding things up? Is
- 7:19Speaker 1: it mind?
- 7:20Speaker 5: I don't think so. I don't think it's his agent.
- 7:22Speaker 5: I think they want to get a deal done. I
- 7:23Speaker 5: think Fromber one definitely wants to get a deal done.
- 7:26Speaker 5: I think this is just teams saying, oh, we can
- 7:28Speaker 5: wait this one out. Where's Zach Allen? We haven't heard
- 7:33Speaker 5: a peep about Zach Gallen this entire offseason. I know
- 7:36Speaker 5: Sky Borris keeps things very very tight to his chest,
- 7:39Speaker 5: very close to his the best chest vest, whatever it is,
- 7:43Speaker 5: whatever the saying is, Neil Dewin. But we haven't heard, yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 5: close to the best. We haven't heard much about like
- 7:49Speaker 5: the chess better better for better when the girls look
- 7:52Speaker 5: at you because you know, but but where's Zach Allen's market?
- 7:58Speaker 5: But we you know, obviously Yill and Cetern signed super early.
- 8:01Speaker 5: But Bassett, I mean some of these guys verlind are yes,
- 8:04Speaker 5: he's looking for the right deal shures or I get
- 8:06Speaker 5: there up in Yil. But your guy Walker, Bueller, Alana,
- 8:08Speaker 5: we haven't heard and heard Jose Cantana had a pretty
- 8:10Speaker 5: good year, decent year for last year for the Brewers.
- 8:13Speaker 5: We haven't heard much about a lot of these guys
- 8:16Speaker 5: on the starting pitching market. And guess what, guys we're about.
- 8:20Speaker 5: It's February fourth, We're about a week away from a
- 8:22Speaker 5: lot of teams reporting for spring training. So it's a
- 8:26Speaker 5: weird It's been a weird market for you guys not
- 8:28Speaker 5: on the top, top top.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I just talked to my buddy who's a pitcher and
- 8:33Speaker 3: he's leaving Monday. Usually right around the Super Bowl, some
- 8:35Speaker 3: you know guys start packing up and leaving. So yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 3: you definitely want a spot. But to answer your question, Alana,
- 8:43Speaker 3: this is a player who went to I think the
- 8:46Speaker 3: Winter meetings or the GM meetings in person. Franbur Voudez
- 8:51Speaker 3: and his agent were there in person talking to teams. So, yes,
- 8:55Speaker 3: they wanted to get this done. Yes, they wanted to
- 8:57Speaker 3: make sure they were ahead of any kind of negative.
- 9:01Speaker 6: Well, here we are, February fourth.
- 9:05Speaker 3: It's not his it's not his play on the field
- 9:09Speaker 3: that is holding this up. He just does not fit
- 9:12Speaker 3: into that how we don't want to give a give
- 9:14Speaker 3: up a qualifying offer or the draft pick associated with
- 9:17Speaker 3: qualifying offer. To me, if it's not the questions about
- 9:23Speaker 3: we haven't heard, we haven't heard money being discussed. If
- 9:26Speaker 3: it's not the questions about that one instance and then
- 9:29Speaker 3: other instances that are alluded to, then I don't know
- 9:34Speaker 3: what it would be that's holding this market up.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Zach Allen doesn't have those things, does.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Of those different?
- 9:43Speaker 6: Story? Totally different?
- 9:45Speaker 4: Okay, Well, what's holding his market up?
- 9:47Speaker 3: What's holding He's that guy, He's that guy that's connected
- 9:52Speaker 3: to the qualifying offer that major and we'll get into
- 9:56Speaker 3: it at some point, like I talked to I talked
- 9:59Speaker 3: to a previous a former GM the other day and
- 10:02Speaker 3: him telling me about how they do arbitration things. Anyway,
- 10:05Speaker 3: we'll talk about it later with the whole scooball stuff.
- 10:07Speaker 3: But it shows me there is every year there's a guy,
- 10:12Speaker 3: there's somebody that that qualifying offer, the compensatory pick that
- 10:16Speaker 3: is associated with signing him really really hurts him. And
- 10:19Speaker 3: I didn't think it was gonna be Zach Gallen this year.
- 10:21Speaker 3: I thought Zach Allen was a nine figure pitcher and
- 10:25Speaker 3: guess he had a down year. So you're gonna get
- 10:27Speaker 3: a little bit better price for him, but nobody wants it.
- 10:31Speaker 6: You know.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I bet he goes back to the Diamondbacks because and
- 10:34Speaker 3: they don't lose a pick. Whoever signs him doesn't lose
- 10:36Speaker 3: a pick, and he regains his value.
- 10:38Speaker 2: What about fromber in Toronto? The rumors are still swirling
- 10:41Speaker 2: aj that he could possibly be a member of the
- 10:43Speaker 2: Toronto Blueje's. I mean, this is a team that, to
- 10:46Speaker 2: give them some credit, they went for it this offseason
- 10:49Speaker 2: and they spent a lot of money. They obviously were
- 10:51Speaker 2: this close to winning the World Series. Took that money
- 10:54Speaker 2: from the World Series, put it right back in their
- 10:56Speaker 2: team for the product on the field Fromber, does it
- 10:59Speaker 2: make for him to go there?
- 11:05Speaker 5: I mean their rotation is pretty loaded. I mean especially,
- 11:08Speaker 5: let's not forget they got ceased, right Ponts. Gosman's still there,
- 11:13Speaker 5: you savage, A full year, you savage. I mean they're there,
- 11:16Speaker 5: their rotation, Barrios is still there. They got a pretty
- 11:18Speaker 5: Bieber Biaber. We'll see how healthy Bieber is. But yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 5: you know, they're their rotations loaded, and they still have
- 11:27Speaker 5: the lefty just blanked in the lefty's name.
- 11:29Speaker 6: That was good, so good.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Lours still there, right, so they have a loaded rotation?
- 11:35Speaker 4: It does?
- 11:35Speaker 5: Does it make sense from just I'm greedy and I
- 11:37Speaker 5: want everybody's standpoint like Alana's Dodgers? Yes, but doesn't make
- 11:41Speaker 5: sense for any other reason. I mean, I guess Gosman
- 11:44Speaker 5: could be a free agent. Some of these other guys
- 11:45Speaker 5: might be free agents. They might trade a Barrios. Is
- 11:48Speaker 5: Biaber healthy?
- 11:49Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 11:49Speaker 5: No, it makes sense, yes, because you can never have
- 11:51Speaker 5: enough starting pitching. But no, it doesn't make sense because
- 11:55Speaker 5: you would think they already are loaded for bear and
- 11:57Speaker 5: their starting rotation. We'll see, but I think he makes
- 12:01Speaker 5: way more sense to the Orioles and or the Pirates.
- 12:03Speaker 1: All Right, you just brought up the Oriols. I was
- 12:04Speaker 1: just about to ask you that. So k let's look
- 12:06Speaker 1: at this.
- 12:07Speaker 2: The Orioles projected starting rotation right now, Lefty, Trevor Rodgers,
- 12:11Speaker 2: Kyle Barradis, Shane Baz, Dean Kramer, and Zach Efflick.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You throw fromber in there?
- 12:16Speaker 6: Do you like that? Or?
- 12:17Speaker 1: I mean, who's who's the slam dunk?
- 12:19Speaker 3: Okay, there's no odd man We're we're in We're in
- 12:23Speaker 3: a central six man rotation territory. Like I don't I
- 12:27Speaker 3: don't think they can. Trevor Rodgers had an unbelievable breakout
- 12:31Speaker 3: fourteen starts. Are you gonna get thirty one of those starts?
- 12:35Speaker 3: Thirty two of those starts? I mean you look at
- 12:37Speaker 3: you look at the successful teams and they're really going
- 12:40Speaker 3: six deep? Are you gonna Are you gonna sit any
- 12:43Speaker 3: of these guys?
- 12:44Speaker 6: No? Absolutely not.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Kyle Braddis did not throw an entire year.
- 12:48Speaker 6: Last year.
- 12:48Speaker 3: He came back and was legit. But you're talking about
- 12:51Speaker 3: a lot of time, So Framber to Baltimore is the
- 12:56Speaker 3: slam dunk. I feel like I felt like it was
- 12:58Speaker 3: gonna be Ranger. I felt like that price tag was
- 13:01Speaker 3: going to be Orioles, Orioles all the way. It didn't happen.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Boston came in and got the job done. So good
- 13:08Speaker 3: for Boston. But to me, I think Framber to the
- 13:12Speaker 3: Orioles finishes off their off season like Brandon Donovan did
- 13:18Speaker 3: yesterday to the Marriagers Bob.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Nightingale, saying the Oriols remain the heavy favorite guys to
- 13:23Speaker 2: sign Valdez and saying, remember they were aggressive in the bidding,
- 13:27Speaker 2: as Ek just said for Ranger Suarez before he signed
- 13:30Speaker 2: a five year, one hundred and thirty million dollars deal
- 13:33Speaker 2: with the Boston Red Solas.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I want to ask you this, ag.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I don't think you were on the show yet when
- 13:39Speaker 2: Eric and I were talking about this with our producer,
- 13:41Speaker 2: not producer Lady, but our producer Jeremy, our director. Today,
- 13:45Speaker 2: there is a narrative surrounding from ber Valdez that Zach
- 13:48Speaker 2: Gallen does not have following him like a dark cloud.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I said, it depends. I guess on the clubhouse and
- 13:54Speaker 2: you guys would know more than I playing. But does
- 13:58Speaker 2: the fifteen win season erase that narrative for a team?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Are there certain teams that will take that on versus others?
- 14:06Speaker 2: What would it take for you to have a guy
- 14:09Speaker 2: that does have some negative connotation associated with him, right,
- 14:13Speaker 2: wrong or indifferent? I know that they took a video
- 14:15Speaker 2: of him and said, look at this is my good
- 14:16Speaker 2: guy video. We're going to show you now about from
- 14:18Speaker 2: rivel Does. What does it take for you to want
- 14:21Speaker 2: that in your clubhouse? If in fact he's not a
- 14:24Speaker 2: good teammate. I don't know if he is. I've not
- 14:26Speaker 2: played with the guy.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I hate that. I hate that, I hate that.
- 14:28Speaker 5: How do we know unless I'm because I've talked to
- 14:30Speaker 5: guys on the Astros they all seem to like from
- 14:33Speaker 5: rivela Does. Every time we've talked to Chandler Rome about
- 14:36Speaker 5: the Astros, Jeff Blum, who I played with, they all say, yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 5: I hate that bad He's just got a bad rap.
- 14:42Speaker 6: You know.
- 14:42Speaker 4: It's how do we know that?
- 14:44Speaker 6: Now?
- 14:44Speaker 5: I know his agency went around in the winter meetings
- 14:48Speaker 5: and had Fromber there and they showed a video of
- 14:49Speaker 5: how he.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Is a good teammate.
- 14:51Speaker 5: So yeah, they're trying to combat this. But listen, I'm
- 14:54Speaker 5: never going to label somebody a bad team unless I
- 14:56Speaker 5: actually played with him and I'm in that room with
- 14:58Speaker 5: him for seven eight months.
- 15:00Speaker 4: You don't know. You really don't know.
- 15:02Speaker 5: There's no way to know unless you sit in that room,
- 15:04Speaker 5: sit on the buses, sit on the planes, sit in there.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Because there's people that I played with that were labeled
- 15:09Speaker 5: as good teammates, and I played with them and I
- 15:12Speaker 5: thought they were terrible. And then there was guys that
- 15:14Speaker 5: were labeled bad teammates and I played with them and they.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Were fucking awesome.
- 15:17Speaker 5: So it's just everyone has a different view on everybody,
- 15:21Speaker 5: and sometimes the media can spin it. Trust me, take
- 15:23Speaker 5: it from someone who knows very well, TA can spin
- 15:26Speaker 5: it however they want to spin it. And listen, one incident,
- 15:30Speaker 5: if he can explain it and he says it and
- 15:32Speaker 5: the team is fine with that incident that we always
- 15:34Speaker 5: talk about with the catcher, then it shouldn't affect him
- 15:37Speaker 5: that much. But that owners are also smart and the
- 15:39Speaker 5: gms are smart. We're like, hey, we can use this
- 15:41Speaker 5: against them to get them to take less money. Let's
- 15:43Speaker 5: try it for sure.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And the only thing I had to say, is what
- 15:47Speaker 3: AJ is trying to say is every clubhouse is built differently.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Some clubhouses problem guys come in and all they really
- 15:57Speaker 3: wanted was to win. And the last place where they
- 15:59Speaker 3: were trying to hold people accountable and you know what,
- 16:03Speaker 3: it wasn't handled very well. Then there's other clubhouses where
- 16:06Speaker 3: you never really knew if the guy was a good
- 16:08Speaker 3: guy or not because he wasn't connected Like each each spot,
- 16:12Speaker 3: not everybody can necessarily meld into the culture of what
- 16:17Speaker 3: you're doing. When you're paying somebody one hundred and fifty
- 16:19Speaker 3: million dollars like fran Bravaldez, are you paying for him
- 16:22Speaker 3: to be a clubhouse leader, a club a rotation leader,
- 16:26Speaker 3: that guy that everybody goes to. Maybe some organizations say
- 16:29Speaker 3: we don't want to spend that money. It's all dependent
- 16:32Speaker 3: on the player, and it's really all dependent on what
- 16:36Speaker 3: they know about him. And what did we say at
- 16:38Speaker 3: the beginning. If this is the pirates, that's the whole
- 16:40Speaker 3: reason we're talking about this. The pirates are aggressive. Guess
- 16:44Speaker 3: who knows him really well, Bill Murphy, who has been
- 16:47Speaker 3: his pitching coach or in some capacity.
- 16:50Speaker 6: Been around him.
- 16:51Speaker 3: And you know what, maybe the pirates said Hey, if Murphy,
- 16:54Speaker 3: who we haven't had here as a coach until this year,
- 16:57Speaker 3: says yes, he would fit into what we're doing here,
- 17:00Speaker 3: and maybe it's a lot easier for them to say,
- 17:03Speaker 3: check he will fit in this clubhouse because he's really good.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Bob Nightingale reporting guys that the Arizona Diamondbacks are signing
- 17:18Speaker 2: first baseman Carlos Santana to a one year, two million
- 17:21Speaker 2: dollar deal contract U pending a physical. Uh so we'll
- 17:27Speaker 2: see that. I mean, this is a guy that just
- 17:28Speaker 2: keeps going and going and going. He's like the energizer bunny.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Do you like this?
- 17:33Speaker 6: E K?
- 17:35Speaker 1: I mean, for Santana, you go as long as you can,
- 17:37Speaker 1: right until they take the jersey.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Off of you.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Why sense not necessarily? I mean I don't know that
- 17:44Speaker 3: you do. I don't know Carlo. I don't know Carlos's decisions,
- 17:47Speaker 3: so I'm not going to speak for him. For me,
- 17:49Speaker 3: it wasn't as long as they take the jersey off
- 17:51Speaker 3: of me, it was it was time to go. Like,
- 17:54Speaker 3: but he's he's still a productive player, Like he's giving
- 17:58Speaker 3: he's giving them productive at bats. He's going to give them.
- 18:02Speaker 3: You know what does he in a in a successful
- 18:05Speaker 3: Diamondbacks lineup. Does he hit as high as seventh in
- 18:09Speaker 3: this lineup?
- 18:10Speaker 6: No?
- 18:10Speaker 3: But what other upgrade? It was kind of like what
- 18:12Speaker 3: I was saying with the Pirates earlier. What other offensive
- 18:16Speaker 3: upgrades are there left on the market? And Dinmonbacks wanted
- 18:21Speaker 3: a first baseman. Good for them for going to get
- 18:23Speaker 3: somebody who actually plays first and not doing what some
- 18:26Speaker 3: of the teams are saying and going, well, we'll just
- 18:29Speaker 3: make this guy a first baseman. Well, anybody can play
- 18:33Speaker 3: first because they can't, So good for them. I think
- 18:35Speaker 3: he had like a I don't know, like a one
- 18:38Speaker 3: something war last year, so he's a productive player. His
- 18:42Speaker 3: ops plus wasn't there, but his defense maybe picked it
- 18:45Speaker 3: up some.
- 18:46Speaker 6: But it's not a splash. It's a decent move.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I mean, Paul goldschmianth Aj he's a first baseman, a
- 18:52Speaker 2: true first baseman. That could have kind of come full
- 18:54Speaker 2: circle for him, right, Maybe finish your career in Arizona
- 18:57Speaker 2: where most people know Paul gold Schmidt, that mean, and
- 19:00Speaker 2: that's his team, right at least it ends a reunion
- 19:03Speaker 2: for now.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Yeah, But Paul golsh was probably looking for ten million
- 19:08Speaker 5: dollars and Carlos Santana took two million dollars, so they're
- 19:10Speaker 5: like they needed a right handed first baseman. Carlos Santana
- 19:14Speaker 5: switch hits. So yeah, it's a move. I like it
- 19:18Speaker 5: for the Diamondbacks. Let's see what he has left, because
- 19:20Speaker 5: let's not forget he. I mean, he was he good
- 19:22Speaker 5: last year. Yeah, he was okay last year, he wasn't great.
- 19:24Speaker 5: So he'll take a walk, he'll hit you at Homer
- 19:28Speaker 5: every once in a while, and he'll played good defense.
- 19:30Speaker 5: But yeah, it's a it's a it's a move that. Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 5: let's get behind it. But yeah, it's not the great,
- 19:36Speaker 5: it's not. It's not a division changing move.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Are they a playoff team as they are currently constructed? Again,
- 19:42Speaker 2: we don't know Eric where Zach Gallen is going to
- 19:45Speaker 2: end up. Whether it's back with Arizona someplace else, I
- 19:47Speaker 2: don't know. Last year, the d Backs finished in fourth
- 19:50Speaker 2: place in the division in eighty and eighty two records,
- 19:52Speaker 2: so they were below five hundred. Is this a playoff
- 19:55Speaker 2: team in twenty twenty six right now?
- 19:58Speaker 6: No? Nope?
- 20:00Speaker 3: Could could they be if they get Zack Gllen? I
- 20:03Speaker 3: don't know if that's enough yet. Their bullpen's a little short,
- 20:07Speaker 3: but man, I'm gonna take a lot of overs with
- 20:09Speaker 3: this team because when you have three dudes in the
- 20:12Speaker 3: top of your lineup that are MVP top three MVP
- 20:17Speaker 3: candidates in Corbyn Carroll, Heraldo Perdomo and Katel Marte, I
- 20:23Speaker 3: love it. But when you have a team also that
- 20:25Speaker 3: says Gabriel Moreno is hitting fourth, Peven Smith is hitting fifth,
- 20:31Speaker 3: like the projected lineup like you're You're definitely very top heavy.
- 20:36Speaker 3: But they they figured out how to score some runs
- 20:38Speaker 3: last year. They're gonna run the bases like their hair's
- 20:41Speaker 3: on fire, and so they're gonna score a lot of runs.
- 20:44Speaker 3: It's gonna be an issue keeping the other team off
- 20:47Speaker 3: the base pass though.
- 20:48Speaker 2: AJ does Nolan Ronado the acquisition of Nolan from the Cardinals.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Does that move the needle at all for you in
- 20:55Speaker 2: terms of making a playoff team.
- 20:58Speaker 5: I don't know if it makes them a playoff team,
- 20:59Speaker 5: but Nolan and I think he'll be a great leader
- 21:02Speaker 5: for some of the guys in that clubhouse. He plays,
- 21:05Speaker 5: still plays a good defense, he'll I think we talked
- 21:07Speaker 5: to him not that long ago. He's talking about making
- 21:09Speaker 5: some adjustments in the swing. So I think, yes, I
- 21:12Speaker 5: think he'll he'll help them, but does he make him
- 21:14Speaker 5: a playoff team? The National League's really hard.
- 21:19Speaker 6: That is really hard.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah, But I mean Mett's, Phillies, Braves, Cubs, Brewers, Dodgers.
- 21:28Speaker 5: There's seven I just named for six right, and you
- 21:32Speaker 5: haven't even got to the Padres, Giants, Diamonds. I don't
- 21:36Speaker 5: think they're better than the Reds. I mean there's there's
- 21:38Speaker 5: ten or eleven teams you just named. The National League
- 21:41Speaker 5: is hard. The National League is a better league right
- 21:44Speaker 5: now than the American League. And I'm an American League guy.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I don't bet against I don't bet against Tory Leavello,
- 21:51Speaker 3: but I don't know if you can make chicken salad
- 21:56Speaker 3: out of chicken, you know what? So I think there's
- 21:59Speaker 3: I think I think the team has the potential to
- 22:02Speaker 3: be really good. When does Corbyn Burns come back? Are
- 22:05Speaker 3: they still in it? When they get a Corbyn Burns
- 22:08Speaker 3: back into this rotation?
- 22:10Speaker 6: Is he?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Is he Corbyn Burns level Corbyn Burns like it's there's
- 22:15Speaker 3: too many ifs in that pitching and they weren't able
- 22:18Speaker 3: to They weren't able to address those things. So it'll
- 22:22Speaker 3: be fun to watch man. I love watching them play
- 22:24Speaker 3: because they run the bases the way you're supposed to.
- 22:26Speaker 2: That's what we said, all right, So Chandler Rome, who
- 22:33Speaker 2: covers the Astros, make sure you check out Crush City territory.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Do you think it's likely that both Lach Parades and
- 22:39Speaker 2: Christian Walker are on your roster when you get to camp.
- 22:42Speaker 2: This is what Dana Brown, the GM said. Right now,
- 22:44Speaker 2: both of them are still part of our roster, and
- 22:46Speaker 2: we have plans for both of them to play.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Right now.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Our plan is for both of them to be here.
- 22:51Speaker 2: That's basically not saying much. AJ will start with you.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you can say that on February fourth, because as
- 22:58Speaker 1: of right now, they're both. Do you think one or
- 23:01Speaker 1: both of these guys get moved, No.
- 23:07Speaker 6: One.
- 23:07Speaker 5: He's gonna say Parades, but I don't think they will,
- 23:10Speaker 5: not not until maybe later in spring training or maybe
- 23:12Speaker 5: in the season. I just think they're gonna roll with
- 23:15Speaker 5: what they have right now and see how it plays
- 23:16Speaker 5: out and then make make an adjustment, because you know,
- 23:20Speaker 5: this stuff always works itself out, and I just think
- 23:24Speaker 5: it's too close to spring training. I think they'll wait
- 23:26Speaker 5: and then they'll see how spring training plays out and
- 23:28Speaker 5: then make a decision.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I say, I do say parades, and I say a
- 23:34Speaker 3: great landing spot is.
- 23:36Speaker 6: The Red Sox.
- 23:37Speaker 3: There's one is one year left, he would wait, I
- 23:41Speaker 3: don't say that's confidently now. I'm pretty sure this is
- 23:43Speaker 3: his last year. I think he's a free agent after
- 23:45Speaker 3: this year. But I could be wrong. Somebody looked that
- 23:47Speaker 3: up for me, and I'll retract it if I'm wrong.
- 23:49Speaker 3: But that right handed bat, like, do they think Marcella
- 23:54Speaker 3: Meyer needs to go to or needs to be at
- 23:57Speaker 3: third and then they need a second basement? Okay, well
- 23:59Speaker 3: then that doesn't fit. Like I guess it depends on
- 24:01Speaker 3: what the Red Sox are doing, but it's not a
- 24:04Speaker 3: long term deal. I just don't see how you can
- 24:07Speaker 3: find enough at bats. And I know every spring training
- 24:09Speaker 3: they say this, And I think this could be like
- 24:11Speaker 3: an end of spring training type of move when you
- 24:14Speaker 3: see how well Marcella Meyer does it third, when you
- 24:17Speaker 3: see how well certain teams' third basements are working out.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Because if everybody ends spring training healthy, I get it.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Al Tuove the other year broke his hand, broke his
- 24:28Speaker 3: finger in the WBC. But and they need to stay healthy,
- 24:32Speaker 3: but they're not moving to the outfield they're not moving
- 24:35Speaker 3: Jose al Tuove consistently to the outfield, so he'll play second.
- 24:40Speaker 3: DH is taken up because they need one hundred and
- 24:43Speaker 3: sixty two games out of your don Carlos Correa, like,
- 24:47Speaker 3: I get it. They'll figure it out. They picked them
- 24:49Speaker 3: up last year and they said they'll figure it out
- 24:50Speaker 3: when they need to. Well, now is when they need to.
- 24:54Speaker 3: And they wanted to make a run at it last
- 24:55Speaker 3: year and they came up short. But Carlos Correa is
- 24:58Speaker 3: playing third, and Christian Walker do that bad last year.
- 25:03Speaker 3: If you have somebody hitting thirty homers at first base,
- 25:05Speaker 3: it wasn't up to his standard. I don't think he's
- 25:08Speaker 3: as easily movable, and so I think it's paradeous And
- 25:12Speaker 3: it's not anything against him. I mean, the dude was
- 25:15Speaker 3: an All Star last year. But everybody's always expendable until
- 25:21Speaker 3: they're not.
- 25:22Speaker 2: According to Baseball Reference, Guys Parades has a little over
- 25:25Speaker 2: four years of service time. He was arbitration eligible after
- 25:28Speaker 2: the twenty twenty five season. He won't be a free
- 25:31Speaker 2: agent until twenty twenty eight. Hey, j if I am
- 25:35Speaker 2: a Tigers fan, all I care about is that you
- 25:38Speaker 2: give Erk Skuble whatever the hell it is that he's
- 25:41Speaker 2: asking for. I believe his arbitration has already started, or
- 25:44Speaker 2: it's about to start.
- 25:45Speaker 4: His arbitration run over, it's about over.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Okay, all right? I mean, don't you do You guys
- 25:52Speaker 1: were talking about it. I think on.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Foul earlier that he should bring his cy Young Awards
- 25:56Speaker 2: to the damn table and put him on the table
- 25:58Speaker 2: and be like, are we are you kidds me with
- 26:00Speaker 2: this right now? Like the gap in terms of what
- 26:02Speaker 2: he thinks he deserves and what the team thinks he deserves.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I mean, what's the right move here?
- 26:07Speaker 5: Aj sign him, but it will already happened, that the
- 26:12Speaker 5: time has already passed. Sign him, give him what he wants.
- 26:17Speaker 5: I don't know what's the right move at this point. Well,
- 26:20Speaker 5: they've they've painted themselves in a corner now, and the
- 26:23Speaker 5: right move is they didn't settle because they went to
- 26:25Speaker 5: the trial already, So there is no right move. The
- 26:30Speaker 5: right move now is see what happens and then go
- 26:32Speaker 5: from there. And he's gonna walk at the end of
- 26:33Speaker 5: the year, and they're gonna give him a qualifying offer
- 26:36Speaker 5: and get a draft pick out of him unless they're
- 26:38Speaker 5: out of it and they trade him, which they don't
- 26:39Speaker 5: think they will be.
- 26:40Speaker 4: So the right move was.
- 26:43Speaker 5: What aj Hinch said to me at the Baseball Writers'
- 26:45Speaker 5: Association dinner the other night, which I said to him
- 26:48Speaker 5: and he couldn't believe I said it, but people that
- 26:51Speaker 5: know me know me. We were in Seattle for the
- 26:55Speaker 5: Division Series before game it was the day before Game one.
- 26:57Speaker 5: It was the workout day and I'm talking to Schooball
- 27:00Speaker 5: and I'm talking to Hinch and it's me and Adam
- 27:02Speaker 5: Wayne right, and Scott Harris walks over, their president of
- 27:04Speaker 5: Baseball ops and says hello, and we start talking.
- 27:07Speaker 4: We all kind of start talking.
- 27:08Speaker 5: I just look at Scott Harris and I say, hey,
- 27:10Speaker 5: what's gonna take to sign Schooble. Let's get this done
- 27:12Speaker 5: right here. I'll negotiate the deal. And Scott Harris turned
- 27:16Speaker 5: white as a ghost, and aj Hinch was trying to
- 27:18Speaker 5: hide his laughter, and Schooble just looked at me, smiled
- 27:21Speaker 5: and kind of walked away laughing. And that about sums
- 27:23Speaker 5: it up. There is no right thing to do, so
- 27:25Speaker 5: let's just make it completely awkward and see what happens,
- 27:27Speaker 5: because that's what it's at right now.
- 27:29Speaker 3: This isn't the Tiger's fault, Tigers fans, Tiger territory that
- 27:34Speaker 3: everybody needs to know. This is not the Tiger's fault.
- 27:37Speaker 3: This is not a team versus schooble thing. This is
- 27:40Speaker 3: Major League Baseball versus the players. Major League Baseball would
- 27:45Speaker 3: not allow the Tigers to agree and negotiate with somebody
- 27:51Speaker 3: that's going to go down as one of the best
- 27:52Speaker 3: Tigers pitchers of all time, like why because of the
- 27:57Speaker 3: president it would send for or it would set for
- 28:01Speaker 3: the rest of major League history, the rest of guys.
- 28:05Speaker 3: We're still looking at David Price's nineteen point seven million
- 28:11Speaker 3: dollars eleven years ago as the highest paid pitcher and
- 28:15Speaker 3: arbitration and Juan Soto made over thirty million dollars. This
- 28:19Speaker 3: is a chance to change the timeline, change the amount
- 28:24Speaker 3: of money that pitchers get because Terrek Scouble could not
- 28:28Speaker 3: have had two better years to come into this last
- 28:31Speaker 3: arbitration chance. And Major League Baseball would not allow the
- 28:36Speaker 3: Tigers to agree to this. They'll never admit to it,
- 28:40Speaker 3: but there is no way that they would ever allow
- 28:42Speaker 3: them to pay him twenty eight million dollars twenty nine
- 28:45Speaker 3: million dollars. Well, if they don't win here. If Major
- 28:48Speaker 3: League Baseball doesn't win, they're going to pay him thirty two.
- 28:51Speaker 3: And it was a big backfire. And this is not
- 28:53Speaker 3: a Tigers versus a Schooble thing. So fans, you have
- 28:57Speaker 3: not alienated Tarrek Schouble in my opinion.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yes, yes they have.
- 29:05Speaker 5: No I totally I agree with some of the things
- 29:07Speaker 5: Eric said, But the Tigers can also make a decision
- 29:10Speaker 5: and say, hey, we need to raise our offer above
- 29:13Speaker 5: what David Price got in twenty fifteen. So yes, do
- 29:17Speaker 5: I think that it's necessarily all the all MLB's fault
- 29:22Speaker 5: or all the Tigers know, But I also believe that
- 29:25Speaker 5: the Tigers should have tried after maybe his first say
- 29:28Speaker 5: in the lock you ve and I know Scott Boris
- 29:30Speaker 5: doesn't have a history of that, but they also it
- 29:32Speaker 5: is you can't just say it's not the Tiger's fault.
- 29:35Speaker 5: The Tigers have something to do with this. They put
- 29:37Speaker 5: their number. Why didn't they put their number at twenty
- 29:40Speaker 5: five million?
- 29:42Speaker 6: Am to majorly?
- 29:44Speaker 5: They have people that do it Major Legue Baseball, So okay,
- 29:47Speaker 5: So then why did Scout Boris go to thirty two?
- 29:49Speaker 5: Major League Baseball didn't tell him to do that. The
- 29:51Speaker 5: Alumni Player Association didn't tell him to do that. He
- 29:54Speaker 5: came up with his own number. The Tigers think on
- 29:56Speaker 5: their own and if they wanted to get this done,
- 29:58Speaker 5: the Tigers could have gone to MLB. He said, hey, guys,
- 30:00Speaker 5: we're gonna settle at the midpoint twenty five and a
- 30:02Speaker 5: half and let's move on. But they didn't want to.
- 30:06Speaker 5: That's their philosophy, and that's fine, that's their right. But
- 30:07Speaker 5: they could lose or they could win. And it's one
- 30:10Speaker 5: of the most intriguing cases, I'm sorry in arbitration history,
- 30:14Speaker 5: because if Trek Scoople can't win, then I don't know
- 30:16Speaker 5: who else can win for players?
- 30:18Speaker 2: Is this an ownership philosophy change? I have to believe
- 30:22Speaker 2: the former owner would have been like, we're gonna give
- 30:27Speaker 2: this kid you want to. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I feel like hal Steinbrenner of the Yankees is a
- 30:32Speaker 2: little bit more conservative than George was. I feel like
- 30:36Speaker 2: Mike Ilitch is a little bit more would have what
- 30:40Speaker 2: I would have gone forward a little bit more. I
- 30:41Speaker 2: don't know, you guys, tell me, I mean, is this
- 30:43Speaker 2: an ownership philosophy change?
- 30:45Speaker 4: Is this?
- 30:45Speaker 1: What is this? I mean, why can't they sit at
- 30:47Speaker 1: the table right now if whoever with the front office
- 30:49Speaker 1: of the Tigers is there and say, hey, you know what,
- 30:52Speaker 1: we're gonna forget this arbitration hearing? Can they can they
- 30:56Speaker 1: extend him now?
- 30:59Speaker 4: Cut off?
- 30:59Speaker 3: But it's too Hey, they've heard of it on the here.
- 31:02Speaker 3: But how many how many times has has Scott Boris
- 31:06Speaker 3: accepted an extension before a guy hits free agency?
- 31:12Speaker 6: Never?
- 31:14Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know, but I don't want to
- 31:15Speaker 3: say never. I know there was, but it would have
- 31:18Speaker 3: to be massive. I mean, you're talking about a record
- 31:21Speaker 3: setting picture contract to the you know, to the extent
- 31:24Speaker 3: of four hundred thousand dollars four hundred million like that.
- 31:33Speaker 5: I guarantee you this, And I don't know if it's
- 31:35Speaker 5: true or not, but I can guarantee you one thing.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Trek scooblel is well liked around the league. He got
- 31:39Speaker 5: a lot of texts today and yesterday, in this morning
- 31:42Speaker 5: and probably during this trial from players saying go get
- 31:45Speaker 5: every dollar you can because they understand how important this is.
- 31:48Speaker 5: I guarantee the players that have his number that know
- 31:50Speaker 5: about this all texts Trek school day and said, hey man,
- 31:53Speaker 5: we really want you to win this because this is
- 31:55Speaker 5: big not only for you and your family, but for
- 31:58Speaker 5: everyone that's coming behind you.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Like Scott A.
- 32:00Speaker 5: Kasaki said, you know, you try to make it better
- 32:02Speaker 5: for the players behind you. School is a landmark case.
- 32:04Speaker 5: It can make it better for a lot of people.
- 32:06Speaker 5: AJ said it yesterday. It's historical.
- 32:09Speaker 3: It's historical to the point where the reason I said,
- 32:13Speaker 3: major League Baseball doesn't you know this is a major
- 32:16Speaker 3: League Baseball thing.
- 32:17Speaker 6: I get it.
- 32:17Speaker 3: The Tigers have a little bit of culpability in this,
- 32:20Speaker 3: but at the GM meetings they go over their arbitration
- 32:25Speaker 3: cases and then Major League Baseball comes back to them
- 32:28Speaker 3: and says, eh, maybe this is how far you should go.
- 32:31Speaker 6: I'm not saying it's right.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I'm saying that's how they go over it, and that's
- 32:36Speaker 3: how they come up with these numbers, and that's why
- 32:38Speaker 3: these numbers are stay pretty linear, pretty along the same
- 32:41Speaker 3: lines for everybody. It's a way to keep keep salaries down,
- 32:46Speaker 3: and no way Major League Baseball is just gonna say, Tigers,
- 32:50Speaker 3: whatever you guys want to do with this historical, groundbreaking
- 32:55Speaker 3: financial salary increase, will trust you. I just I have
- 33:00Speaker 3: a hard time believing it, and I think and I
- 33:02Speaker 3: think Boris knows that too. Boris Boris is like he's
- 33:06Speaker 3: always been so good at getting the contract for the
- 33:10Speaker 3: schoobl for the later Paul schemes for the next you know,
- 33:15Speaker 3: Bubba Chandler could be the next Terrek School. We don't
- 33:18Speaker 3: know who the next Ark school is going to be.
- 33:20Speaker 3: But Boris has always done a good job of pushing that,
- 33:25Speaker 3: pushing that stake forward for player salaries.
- 33:28Speaker 1: A J did you ever go to arbitration for anything?
- 33:31Speaker 5: I went, I went, I went me, I went through it,
- 33:35Speaker 5: I sat through it, I won, I won a lot,
- 33:37Speaker 5: I went through it the whole thing.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I'm proud of you and you've never cramped in your
- 33:40Speaker 2: life and you're the greatest ever. But let me ask
- 33:42Speaker 2: you this when you're in when you're in an arbitration hearing, right,
- 33:46Speaker 2: and we talked about this on the show on Monday,
- 33:49Speaker 2: that you can manipulate numbers to service any narrative.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That you want to put out there.
- 33:53Speaker 2: So you're in an arbitration hearing with your team, the
- 33:56Speaker 2: team that you know you're playing for is at the table.
- 33:59Speaker 1: With their team.
- 34:00Speaker 2: What are the numbers that are being looked at and
- 34:02Speaker 2: how are those numbers being manipulated to service either side
- 34:07Speaker 2: like this, this supposed you know, neutral arbiter.
- 34:11Speaker 1: What are they looking at? Take take me through arbitration.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Well, there's three arbiters, so it's not just one, there's three,
- 34:18Speaker 5: and you present your number, they and the MLB presents
- 34:21Speaker 5: their number. Now, normally you're allowed to look one year ahead,
- 34:24Speaker 5: so like if it depends on what year you are
- 34:26Speaker 5: in arbitration, so if you're a three, you can look
- 34:28Speaker 5: at fours and you can look back and forward one year.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Usually usually always look forward because guys salaries keep going up.
- 34:36Speaker 5: But in Derek Schoubel's case, this is where it's special.
- 34:39Speaker 5: He can actually look at free agent deals and go
- 34:42Speaker 5: off free agent deals because he's one year away from
- 34:45Speaker 5: free agency. So that's where his number gets really interesting
- 34:49Speaker 5: with what he filed at because he's going into a
- 34:52Speaker 5: sixth year. But he can also use Max Schurz or
- 34:55Speaker 5: Justin Erlin or all these guys who have gotten these
- 34:57Speaker 5: huge contracts as pictures. He can use that as a
- 35:00Speaker 5: one year deal and say, look this guy got two
- 35:03Speaker 5: years ago, three years ago, got forty million or whatever
- 35:06Speaker 5: ver Lander and Sureza got from the Mets a few
- 35:07Speaker 5: years ago, and say well they have Yes, they might
- 35:10Speaker 5: have one more song, but they also have more time
- 35:12Speaker 5: in the league and YadA YadA. Yeah, so we think
- 35:14Speaker 5: he's not worth that much, but he's definitely worth more
- 35:16Speaker 5: than the nineteen million that David Price made back in
- 35:18Speaker 5: twenty fifteen. So that's where it gets. And the arbiters
- 35:22Speaker 5: don't most of them, they don't know anything about baseball.
- 35:24Speaker 5: They're just That's why I was.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Just going to ask you, that's exactly what my next point.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So these these neutral arbiters, there's three of them, as
- 35:31Speaker 2: you mentioned, they don't know the game. They don't know
- 35:33Speaker 2: Trek's impact of Like would they know who Trek Skouble
- 35:37Speaker 2: is if he wasn't in that bordero? Would they know
- 35:39Speaker 2: who like a Juan Soto was, or a Show Hey,
- 35:41Speaker 2: or a Paul skeins Is Hey. They were going based
- 35:44Speaker 2: off just the numbers. How do you how do you
- 35:46Speaker 2: make that decision?
- 35:48Speaker 4: Then it's it's not only numbers.
- 35:49Speaker 5: I remember my case, I got to speak, which they
- 35:53Speaker 5: not a lot of players speak, but they asked me
- 35:55Speaker 5: and I was like, yeah, I want to talk. And
- 35:56Speaker 5: then they asked me to explain what a catcher does
- 35:58Speaker 5: compared to a normal position player. On a daily basis,
- 36:01Speaker 5: and I walked them through and Ek knows what what
- 36:04Speaker 5: we do. Deocratsy knows what we do, and that's you know,
- 36:06Speaker 5: we have so much more responsibility than just being a
- 36:08Speaker 5: hitter or just being a catcher. You have to kind
- 36:10Speaker 5: of do both, and you have to worry about pictures
- 36:12Speaker 5: and you have to do this, You have to study
- 36:14Speaker 5: more film, you have to look at all this, and
- 36:15Speaker 5: so they let me explain what my daily life was like.
- 36:18Speaker 5: And I remember looking at the arbitrags and one of
- 36:20Speaker 5: a couple were like, Wow, we didn't realize that you
- 36:22Speaker 5: had to do all that compared to a normal hitter, right,
- 36:25Speaker 5: So they really don't. It's supposed to be neutral, and
- 36:29Speaker 5: I get it. It's just one of those things that
- 36:31Speaker 5: the process stinks, but it's good for the players. So
- 36:34Speaker 5: the owners want to hold it down, the players want
- 36:36Speaker 5: to pump it up. Obviously, it's a bad situation that
- 36:40Speaker 5: you have to go in front of three people that
- 36:42Speaker 5: really don't know what they're doing and argue pros and
- 36:44Speaker 5: cons and listen to your team. For scoobl who's been
- 36:47Speaker 5: with the Tigers his entire life, and they're going to
- 36:50Speaker 5: say things about him and he's going to be like,
- 36:52Speaker 5: that's insanity. But and then he has to go back
- 36:55Speaker 5: in a week and show up to Lakeland and be like, hey, guys,
- 36:58Speaker 5: Scott Harris Greenberg, everything's fine, guys. Don't worry what you
- 37:01Speaker 5: said about me in that room when you're sitting across
- 37:02Speaker 5: from me.
- 37:03Speaker 4: It's fine. I'm good. I'm happy to be here. Yeah,
- 37:05Speaker 4: it's tough.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I would I would think that sometimes feelings get hurt
- 37:10Speaker 2: or relationships change because of this.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Ask Corvin Burns. Yeah, ask Corbyn Burns, corn Burns. They
- 37:19Speaker 5: lost you, guys, it's come out.
- 37:21Speaker 3: They didn't make the playoffs because of Corvin Burns had
- 37:23Speaker 3: like two bad starts in August.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Like he's like.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Me for real, AJ, this one should be better for
- 37:39Speaker 2: you because I know you don't like bets right now
- 37:41Speaker 2: in the eighties. But the regular season wins for the Nationals.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Woof's looking bleak for the Nats for twenty twenty six
- 37:48Speaker 2: over under on sixty five and a half regular season wins, AJ.
- 37:53Speaker 1: What do you say?
- 37:56Speaker 5: Easy? This one's easy under. You can't see me and
- 38:00Speaker 5: I'm going thumbs down like gladiator thumbs. Don't they just
- 38:06Speaker 5: traded away? I mean, listen, they trade away Mackenzie Gord
- 38:09Speaker 5: was their best picture. They weren't good last year. The
- 38:11Speaker 5: division got better. The Braves should be better, the Marlin
- 38:14Speaker 5: should be better. The Phillies are gonna be good again.
- 38:16Speaker 5: The Mets should be better. I don't see him not
- 38:19Speaker 5: losing one hundred games. I'm sorry, I just don't know
- 38:21Speaker 5: how they don't lose a hundred games.
- 38:25Speaker 3: I mean, I'm locking this one in. I'm sorry. You
- 38:27Speaker 3: can't give me. You can't give me sixty five, sixty
- 38:31Speaker 3: five and a half. I was joking yesterday, I mean
- 38:34Speaker 3: not joking, but this is a confident one. So I'm
- 38:36Speaker 3: locking it in for everybody here, sixty five and a half.
- 38:39Speaker 3: I'm taking the under for sure, at me if you
- 38:43Speaker 3: think otherwise, because where's it gonna happen. James Wood is
- 38:47Speaker 3: gonna carry this team.
- 38:49Speaker 6: C J.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Abrams gonna take the next step. I like some of
- 38:53Speaker 3: their position player corps, but they just got rid of
- 38:55Speaker 3: their best picture, their closer for the last few years,
- 38:59Speaker 3: Kyle Finnegan.
- 39:00Speaker 6: He's not back.
- 39:01Speaker 3: He was there for two thirds of the season. This
- 39:06Speaker 3: is an under and I'm locking it in.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair. Now, AJ thinks they could lose one
- 39:12Speaker 2: hundred games.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Are you going that low?
- 39:16Speaker 6: Yes?
- 39:17Speaker 1: Okay, all right out and again and two others.
- 39:21Speaker 5: They have a lot a lot of overs in the
- 39:23Speaker 5: Nationals because they're theirs. Pitching is not very good, so
- 39:27Speaker 5: I'm sorry they traded Ferrer the lefty too for we
- 39:31Speaker 5: love Harry Ford, but he was.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Like one of their great bullpen pieces too, let's not forget.
- 39:36Speaker 3: And they have and they have an entirely new coaching staff,
- 39:40Speaker 3: like I've coached at the big league level, right, And
- 39:45Speaker 3: I'm not even gonna like it's it's there's too many
- 39:49Speaker 3: things that just have to hit this like perfect thin
- 39:53Speaker 3: line for them to win sixty six games.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Mhm.
- 40:00Speaker 2: See career nine to five to one in our chat,
- 40:02Speaker 2: says he's taken the under. He also wouldn't be surprised
- 40:04Speaker 2: if Abrams goes in the next two weeks. All right,
- 40:08Speaker 2: The biggest game of the year calls for a boost pack.
- 40:11Speaker 1: That's just as big bet.
- 40:12Speaker 2: MGM is rolling out the Big Game boost Pack, and
- 40:16Speaker 2: it gives you three different ways to boost the odds
- 40:18Speaker 2: on your next big game bet.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Here's how it works.
- 40:20Speaker 2: First, log in and your Big Game Boost Pack will
- 40:22Speaker 2: be waiting for you. Next add any Big Game bet
- 40:24Speaker 2: to your bet slip and activate the boost token you
- 40:27Speaker 2: want to use. And finally, if that bet hits with
- 40:30Speaker 2: the token activated, you get extra winnings on top of
- 40:33Speaker 2: your payout. So if you want to add a little
- 40:35Speaker 2: more excitement to your big Game action, make sure you
- 40:38Speaker 2: grab the Big Game Boost pack from bet MGM. Make
- 40:41Speaker 2: it legendary. Gambling problem or concern call one eight hundred Gambler.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Time now to Slaphands. Journalism is a tough gig, guys,
- 41:02Speaker 2: and we just wanted to take a moment to note
- 41:04Speaker 2: the closing of the Washington Post Sports department. Terrific national
- 41:09Speaker 2: beat writers like Andrew Golden, Spencer, nosbamb Chelsea Janes, and
- 41:12Speaker 2: longtime reporter Arries. I can never say his name right,
- 41:16Speaker 2: and I know I should be able to Solvlerga among
- 41:18Speaker 2: the people who are affected. Someone tell me how to
- 41:20Speaker 2: say that, because I always say it wrong and he
- 41:22Speaker 2: doesn't deserve that. We're thinking about you, We're thinking about
- 41:25Speaker 2: the Washington Post. We're thinking about I mean, it's hundreds
- 41:29Speaker 2: of people, guys, thousands of layoff, not just in the
- 41:32Speaker 2: sports department but in the international department at the Washington Post.
- 41:36Speaker 2: It's funny or not funny ironic. NBA had a big
- 41:39Speaker 2: trade today and there's nobody in the Washington Post that's
- 41:42Speaker 2: covering it because the actually traded the Washington and that's
- 41:46Speaker 2: a bummer.
- 41:47Speaker 1: That's a bummer.
- 41:47Speaker 2: So we just want to let you know that we're
- 41:49Speaker 2: thinking of our colleagues. All right, let's talk a little
- 41:53Speaker 2: bit about the play Makers Classic.
- 41:59Speaker 1: We are going to to be there.
- 42:00Speaker 2: In fact, it's the fourth Playmakers Classic, presented by Fanatics.
- 42:04Speaker 2: It's a fundraising and recognition event in support of the
- 42:07Speaker 2: Major League Baseball Players Trust, the nonprofit arm of.
- 42:11Speaker 1: The Players Association.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Support generated at this event supports communities and causes inspired
- 42:16Speaker 2: by Major League players across the US, Latin America, and
- 42:19Speaker 2: the broader Caribbean. Some of the activities at the Classic
- 42:23Speaker 2: DJ sets a silent auction featuring some amazing sport experience package.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Maybe AJ puts up his toilet.
- 42:29Speaker 2: I don't know, super Bowl tickets for Super Bowl sixty one,
- 42:32Speaker 2: Lionel Messi autographed jersey, NASCAR Cup Series, VIP experience, and more.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Don't miss it.
- 42:38Speaker 2: This is an event that has anticipated to sell out quickly.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Visit players Trust dot org. That is Players Trust dot Org.
- 42:45Speaker 2: We're gonna be there. It's going to be fun looking
- 42:47Speaker 2: forward to that. I'm assuming you guys have participated in
- 42:50Speaker 2: this event before.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Yeah, one in Vegas. Oh okay, that was Vegas. That's right.
- 42:58Speaker 6: It was good, it was great. I won't be there.
- 43:02Speaker 4: And Mark. We got Mark to buy us a meal.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Hey, I love that. That's that's our boss.
- 43:08Speaker 6: By the way, all right, guys, and you showed up.
- 43:12Speaker 6: He buys.
- 43:12Speaker 3: He buys plenty of meals, but you normally don't show up.
- 43:15Speaker 6: You're so sleepy.
- 43:16Speaker 3: I've got to meet with somebody that's a private jet,
- 43:19Speaker 3: so I won't be able to make up.
- 43:20Speaker 6: I won't not me I see.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't know anybody that has a private jet.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Eric.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Let's get to krats hats.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Sure, And I gotta give I gotta give a shout
- 43:33Speaker 3: out to the fact that I'm one. I'm wearing a
- 43:36Speaker 3: Dodgers hat. I gotta give a shout out to Scott
- 43:39Speaker 3: Akasaki's son, Timothy, who listens to us almost every day
- 43:43Speaker 3: in the show.
- 43:44Speaker 6: So appreciate you, Timothy.
- 43:45Speaker 1: All right, Timothy, Yes, since Scott Akasaki.
- 43:48Speaker 2: And also, and I'm not just saying this, guys, because
- 43:51Speaker 2: he's a Dodger. But the Miguel Rojas interview today and
- 43:54Speaker 2: some of the answers that he presented was one of
- 43:57Speaker 2: the better interviews I've actually ever heard a player that
- 43:59Speaker 2: is that honest and candid and the passion shows through.
- 44:04Speaker 1: So Miguel Rojas, Migio, thank you so much.
- 44:06Speaker 2: All Right, guys, great to be with you as always,
- 44:09Speaker 2: appreciate you very much. Scott bron is back tomorrow, so
- 44:14Speaker 2: enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Our territory resume tomorrow and we'll see you then.
