- 0:05Speaker 1: Seven and two on the road trip. The Saint Lois
- 0:08Speaker 1: Cardinals officially wrapped up their three city nine game trip.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And I don't think any of us would have had
- 0:14Speaker 1: them gone seven and two. But even if you did,
- 0:17Speaker 1: would you have their collect the number of runs they
- 0:20Speaker 1: lost by collectively in those two losses at just two runs?
- 0:24Speaker 1: What a surge for the Salts Cardinals who just keep
- 0:26Speaker 1: finding ways to win ball games. Welcome back to Cardinal Territory,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Katie and Bernie here with you to break down what
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think has been so far easily the highlight of
- 0:34Speaker 1: this season.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it. And you know, before they left,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I think everyone was feeling good about kind of the
- 0:44Speaker 2: trend and the way they were playing ball. But and
- 0:47Speaker 2: even though they had started to win a little bit
- 0:48Speaker 2: on the road, this this three city trips, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 2: nine games ten days, seemed kind of a little bit dominous.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You know, what are they going to do? And you're like,
- 0:58Speaker 2: when Will Leach and I did seeing Red on Monday,
- 1:01Speaker 2: you know, I said, well, what would what would you
- 1:04Speaker 2: make make you happy as a Cardinals fan? He said,
- 1:06Speaker 2: follow five and four? And I said, yeah, I think
- 1:07Speaker 2: that's reasonable. Or whatever day we did that, and so
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm thinking, well, if they go five and four, I
- 1:15Speaker 2: don't have any real complaints. So they go seven and two,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I mean they you know, so they continue to exceed
- 1:20Speaker 2: expectations and they're sort of passing a lot of tests.
- 1:24Speaker 2: There's more to come, like with this homestand but now
- 1:26Speaker 2: they're fun team to watch, a really really fun team.
- 1:28Speaker 1: To watch seven and two. And both of those two
- 1:31Speaker 1: losses were you know, they to one ball games and
- 1:33Speaker 1: they were in it up up until the last pitch.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And they dropped the game today two to one at
- 1:37Speaker 1: Kansas City Royals. Uh, but they banged out twelve pitch,
- 1:40Speaker 1: just didn't get the big one and funners in scoring position.
- 1:41Speaker 1: That's going to happen. Matthew Libertore continues to excel all around.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I we were talking with Olive before the game today
- 1:49Speaker 1: and I asked him, do you have a favorite game
- 1:52Speaker 1: of the road trip? And it was hard. We went
- 1:55Speaker 1: around the room for us to choose one, and I
- 1:59Speaker 1: think mine was Saturday. There is nothing better to me
- 2:03Speaker 1: than a one oh ball game because if your final,
- 2:05Speaker 1: if you're winning a game with one run, two hits,
- 2:09Speaker 1: that means you did everything right, you executed on the
- 2:11Speaker 1: little things and both teams just a tremendous game Saturday.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And it was the first time when I walked into
- 2:19Speaker 1: the clubhouse after, I mean it was bumping, it was loud,
- 2:22Speaker 1: guys are celebrating, and they're all in good spirits. It's
- 2:25Speaker 1: also eight o'clock on a Saturday. They just put a
- 2:26Speaker 1: one hour in forty ninety eight or forty nine minute game,
- 2:29Speaker 1: so but it was different. And when we were I
- 2:31Speaker 1: was going around talking to players, they all said different
- 2:34Speaker 1: things about this is the best we felt all year,
- 2:36Speaker 1: or the most you know, the best team when we've
- 2:38Speaker 1: had all year, the most energy. Oli Marmle said, it
- 2:41Speaker 1: was perfect Cardinal baseball out there. And when you look
- 2:44Speaker 1: at the defense that you saw around the diamond, whether
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's Victor Scott, the second Nolan, Aaronado, Brendan Donovan slowly
- 2:50Speaker 1: but surely putting together an All Star campaign, I will say,
- 2:53Speaker 1: oh yeah, Mason win, it felt like Cardinal baseball and
- 2:57Speaker 1: it was so enjoyable. Miles Michaelis is an incredible job
- 3:01Speaker 1: turning things around. He's a two to one seven era
- 3:03Speaker 1: since that Boston blow up. Gets through the heart of
- 3:06Speaker 1: the order in Bobby but Junior Bennie Paspentino and Salvi
- 3:10Speaker 1: Perez for the third time. That's been an area that
- 3:12Speaker 1: the Cardinals have been really hesitant to use him around.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Kyle lay comes out and gets the job done. Ryan
- 3:16Speaker 1: Helsey looks so much better. It was just such a
- 3:19Speaker 1: good win and it really fired me up because if
- 3:22Speaker 1: you are a team that can win one nothing and
- 3:24Speaker 1: then win whatever ten to three, fourteen to seven. I mean,
- 3:29Speaker 1: the way that the Cardinals went through this road trip,
- 3:31Speaker 1: they won baseball. There are baseball games by playing a
- 3:34Speaker 1: different brand of baseball, and it's really fun to watch.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Exactly see earlier in the season, they would have never
- 3:43Speaker 2: won these games. They they've won a lot of really
- 3:45Speaker 2: close games lately, you know, and they did that a
- 3:47Speaker 2: few times on this road trip, and you're right about
- 3:49Speaker 2: Saturday Night's game. But they never would have had a chance,
- 3:53Speaker 2: really realistically to win these kind of games. And it
- 3:55Speaker 2: wasn't that long ago. I mean, the bullpen would have
- 3:57Speaker 2: just not not the bullpen would not have been able
- 4:00Speaker 2: to provide the security to help you ride out a close,
- 4:05Speaker 2: close game because the bullpen was getting blown up so
- 4:08Speaker 2: many times before it got to Hellsley. But once the
- 4:10Speaker 2: bullpen you know, underwent a transformation and with this extraordinary defense,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you know you can win these games now. And you know,
- 4:18Speaker 2: that's what this road trip was all about. I know
- 4:20Speaker 2: that the offense went off big time, you know, in
- 4:23Speaker 2: two or three of the games, but they had to.
- 4:28Speaker 2: They had to walk a very thin line, as you noted,
- 4:30Speaker 2: between victory and defeat. And when you when you get
- 4:34Speaker 2: the kind of starting pitching they did on this uh,
- 4:37Speaker 2: well the pitching period, if I if I did my
- 4:40Speaker 2: math correctly, they had a tm ERA of two point
- 4:43Speaker 2: one six on this road trip. But this starting pitcher
- 4:46Speaker 2: is about two point four to three, bullpen one point
- 4:48Speaker 2: five to two. Roycroft gave up a run today, but
- 4:50Speaker 2: come on, it's going to happen. But when you get
- 4:53Speaker 2: like they had, they they shot a lot of blanks.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Also on the road trip, they had a lot of
- 4:57Speaker 2: low scoring games. I'm not being critical, but it's just
- 5:00Speaker 2: just the way it was. And there were a lot
- 5:01Speaker 2: of one where they scored one run to run, that
- 5:03Speaker 2: kind of thing. But yet they were able to win
- 5:07Speaker 2: all of these games, even in a time where the
- 5:08Speaker 2: offense was kind of inconsistent because of pitching and defense.
- 5:12Speaker 2: And I gotta tell you, k Katie final thing on
- 5:14Speaker 2: that I try to get you know, I try to
- 5:18Speaker 2: limit myself. I don't want I don't want to get
- 5:19Speaker 2: into like hyperbole. I really don't. But I can't remember
- 5:24Speaker 2: the last time I saw Cardinals team play that incredible,
- 5:30Speaker 2: elite level defense in one game. And I go back to,
- 5:33Speaker 2: you know, even covering some of those White Herzog teams,
- 5:36Speaker 2: and I'm gonna leave them out of the discussion because
- 5:38Speaker 2: it was a different time, different era, different ballpark. I
- 5:42Speaker 2: don't think. I don't think Larus's teams, even though they
- 5:45Speaker 2: had good, good defense, and Shilt's teams had good defense,
- 5:49Speaker 2: but just for all those incredible plays in a one
- 5:53Speaker 2: to nothing game, and pretty much every single one of
- 5:56Speaker 2: those plays had to be made, and it was just
- 5:59Speaker 2: you just there. I was just sitting there as a
- 6:01Speaker 2: fan and I'm going like whoa, and it was like
- 6:05Speaker 2: one after the other that that was see that, You're right,
- 6:10Speaker 2: that is the kind of baseball that maybe some people
- 6:13Speaker 2: don't appreciate that much some but I really do. I
- 6:19Speaker 2: really do. Where you have to play perfectly like pretty
- 6:23Speaker 2: much in every area except for you're not going to
- 6:26Speaker 2: score a lot of runs, but you got one run
- 6:28Speaker 2: and then everything else had to be perfect, and it
- 6:31Speaker 2: was just fun to watch them make all those plays
- 6:33Speaker 2: to make it perfect, and you.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Count on the one run coming from a guy who
- 6:38Speaker 1: they really needed to see something from. I mean, Jordan
- 6:41Speaker 1: Walker gets that when you get when you're Jordan Walker
- 6:43Speaker 1: and you get a fastball location where you did, that
- 6:45Speaker 1: is what you should be doing with that pitch. And
- 6:47Speaker 1: I thought that was huge for Jordan, huge for the team.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Easily my favorite one of the year. And it just,
- 6:52Speaker 1: like all he said, it was perfect Cardinal baseball and
- 6:56Speaker 1: I just really enjoyed it. Nothing better in baseball than
- 6:58Speaker 1: a one oh ball game.
- 7:00Speaker 2: But you know, and you know in Libtor, my gut,
- 7:02Speaker 2: my goodness, we'll probably talk about him, but I just
- 7:05Speaker 2: continue to be impressed. I'll leave it at that in
- 7:07Speaker 2: case we talk about him somewhre later.
- 7:09Speaker 1: No, I continue, Yeah, the pigeon across the board, Polante
- 7:13Speaker 1: has been much better, uh, you know, the one that
- 7:16Speaker 1: actually needs to get going a little bit of sunny
- 7:18Speaker 1: gray and who would have thought that. So I was
- 7:21Speaker 1: just really encouraged by what we saw on the road trip,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and I was talking to a couple of people within
- 7:25Speaker 1: the organization before we left, so DC feels like a
- 7:28Speaker 1: thousand years ago. But before we left for d C,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I asked a couple of people in the organization, what
- 7:36Speaker 1: are you guys, how am I supposed to valuate evaluate
- 7:38Speaker 1: you going forward?
- 7:39Speaker 2: Are you good?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Are you rebuilding? Are you somewhere in the middle? Like
- 7:42Speaker 1: what is a fair baseline to evaluate you? And the
- 7:46Speaker 1: consensus was we don't know yet, but we're gonna find
- 7:50Speaker 1: out very soon. And after the Kansas City trip, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: went up to the same people and I said, so,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think you guys might be good. And I was
- 7:58Speaker 1: at with the same reaction with some laughter, and said like, yeah, this,
- 8:00Speaker 1: we're playing really good baseball here. We're changing the narrative
- 8:03Speaker 1: and for the design of the season to be defined
- 8:07Speaker 1: by player opportunity and runway. We talked about this, what
- 8:10Speaker 1: happens if some players take that opportunity and succeed and excel.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And you're seeing countless cardinals do that, and that is
- 8:18Speaker 1: really encouraging. So we'll get into some of the cardinals
- 8:21Speaker 1: that have been taking flight no pun intended, and we'll
- 8:24Speaker 1: get into some that we haven't seen a lot lately.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Some Alec Burlison, Nolan Gorman talk on deck. But first
- 8:29Speaker 1: a quick message from Arena Club.

- 9:00Speaker 4: the phone. Instant offers right there.

- 9:29Speaker 3: that's Arena Club dot Com slash foul code foul.
- 9:34Speaker 1: All right, So I'll preface this next segment with the
- 9:36Speaker 1: Cardinals face an unusual of just assortment of left handed
- 9:41Speaker 1: starters on this road trip. Off the top of my head,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I believe they faced six out of nine. So that
- 9:46Speaker 1: does explain the lack of playing time for Nolan Warman
- 9:49Speaker 1: and Alec Burlison. Another factor that goes in as that
- 9:52Speaker 1: Ivon Herrera is not only back and healthy, he's ripping,
- 9:56Speaker 1: so the Cardinals are going to have every opportunity to
- 9:58Speaker 1: keep him in the lineup. And because Pedro Pau has
- 10:02Speaker 1: been doing such a nice job and Poso as well,
- 10:04Speaker 1: they've said the best or they thought the best way
- 10:06Speaker 1: to utilize the playing time with all these lefties is
- 10:09Speaker 1: to stick Paus behind the plate and Herrera at DH.
- 10:12Speaker 1: This leaves Burlson and Gorman, who Burlesson more than Gorman
- 10:15Speaker 1: are splitty on the bench, and I feel like up
- 10:18Speaker 1: until today Burleson providing the loan run and Sunday's loss
- 10:21Speaker 1: with the solo homer, we hadn't really seen much of them.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I'm wondering what Ollie Marmal was going to do when
- 10:27Speaker 1: you get it when the Cardinals getting more regular, if
- 10:29Speaker 1: you will matchups with more right handed pitching, and how
- 10:33Speaker 1: he's going to balance the playing time of Gorman and
- 10:35Speaker 1: Burlison and Herrera and Walker, and that is something over
- 10:39Speaker 1: the weekend, he said, he and his staff are still
- 10:41Speaker 1: trying to figure out.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Well, I thought, first of all, you you you made
- 10:45Speaker 2: a great point. You know, with all these left handers,
- 10:49Speaker 2: you know Gorman, Gorman's wasn't going to play much against
- 10:52Speaker 2: those guys unless he was going to be used to
- 10:54Speaker 2: go against the you know, a couple of relievers who
- 10:56Speaker 2: are right handed. But what I thought when I was
- 11:00Speaker 2: thinking about it on Sunday morning, I thought, well, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Oli will probably try to get Gordon to start because
- 11:07Speaker 2: you got a right hand or gone, you could play
- 11:09Speaker 2: Donovan and left you know, or you know, and you know,
- 11:12Speaker 2: and you put Gorman at second base, and so that's
- 11:15Speaker 2: you know, an her Ara d h and so Burley
- 11:18Speaker 2: would sit this one out. I'm just thinking, yeah, this
- 11:21Speaker 2: would be if you're gonna get Gorman a game, this
- 11:23Speaker 2: would probably be a spot. But no, and by the way,
- 11:26Speaker 2: I don't question that. I was just like sort of
- 11:29Speaker 2: assuming what he might what he probably would do and
- 11:31Speaker 2: so but no, I mean Gorman was on the bench
- 11:34Speaker 2: again and it's a good thing he played bursting because
- 11:36Speaker 2: he provided the only run. So you know, I was
- 11:39Speaker 2: looking at you know, like even on the road trip.
- 11:41Speaker 2: And again, absolute great point about the left handed pitchers.
- 11:44Speaker 2: But it's still kind of weird to see, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 2: he started how many games on the road He didn't
- 11:51Speaker 2: start many. I had a note, now I can't find it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: You know, he he just disappeared as the road trip
- 11:57Speaker 2: went on. You know, he was like to disappear, man,
- 12:01Speaker 2: So he's he he He appeared in four of the
- 12:04Speaker 2: nine games, but he started only two of the nine,
- 12:07Speaker 2: and overall he was one for nine, and just again
- 12:12Speaker 2: it was you don't you didn't you just there was
- 12:15Speaker 2: no presence whatsoever even when he did play. And listen, man,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm not saying that the cheap shot im. It's it's
- 12:20Speaker 2: just true.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It's true, and it's unusual. I completely agree because I
- 12:25Speaker 1: get what the Cardinals are doing. Their offense is clicking,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and you can't take her out of the lineup. You can't.
- 12:29Speaker 1: He is one. He has your one of your top bats,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and he's he has that regardless of handedness. Regardless of opponent,
- 12:35Speaker 1: regardless of he's DH and you're catching. You need him
- 12:37Speaker 1: in there every day.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Can I give you a can? You can?
- 12:40Speaker 1: You?
- 12:40Speaker 2: Can? I give you a stat, A cute stat that
- 12:41Speaker 2: I love. I'm sorry. So before he moved into d H,
- 12:45Speaker 2: their DH is combined UH through May eighth, that's the
- 12:50Speaker 2: day before her air came back. Uh. Their DH is
- 12:54Speaker 2: in one hundred and thirty two at bats the season,
- 12:56Speaker 2: had four runs about it in good he's got he's
- 12:59Speaker 2: got seven in like twenty eight bets as a DH,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think, right, you know, it's like, no, you can't
- 13:07Speaker 2: take him out at d H unless he's like he's
- 13:10Speaker 2: got to sit one out because something's bothering um or whatever.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I mean you you can't. You cannot do it.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And they're not going to. They're going to continue playing him.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So what does that mean for Walker who they want to?
- 13:20Speaker 1: You know, I think has has been swinging the bat
- 13:23Speaker 1: a little bit better. We're seeing incremental improvement, better quality
- 13:26Speaker 1: of the bats. I'm not saying he's fixed, but you're
- 13:27Speaker 1: seeing some progress. And it's always going to be a
- 13:30Speaker 1: lengthy process for Jordan Walker. So it's grant ourselves some
- 13:32Speaker 1: patience in that regard, you have Gorman, who has been
- 13:36Speaker 1: in the same boat as Walker in terms of production
- 13:38Speaker 1: and struggle, and then you have Burlison, who really has
- 13:41Speaker 1: not seen a consistent playing time at all this season,
- 13:43Speaker 1: but he continues to make a difference when he does play.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Where are the Cardinal's going to draw that line between
- 13:50Speaker 1: opportunity and runway or whatever word you want to use
- 13:53Speaker 1: for Walker and Gorman, or are they going to focus
- 13:56Speaker 1: on two other players that are absolutely part of this
- 13:58Speaker 1: transition season, just not to the degree of Gorman and Walker,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and also need to develop and produce, because Herrera and
- 14:05Speaker 1: Burlison are the better producing bets than Gorman and Walker.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Right now, I would think that of the two Walker
- 14:12Speaker 2: and Gorman, I would think that if one of them
- 14:16Speaker 2: is going to get ticketed to Memphis, it would be
- 14:18Speaker 2: Gorman first. And I don't I don't think that's recency bias.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I just think that's the way it's trending a little bit. Plus,
- 14:25Speaker 2: with Walker, you can you could even sort of do
- 14:28Speaker 2: an unofficial platoon with him in Burlison, you know, because
- 14:31Speaker 2: you don't you don't want to start. You can start
- 14:33Speaker 2: him against Burley gets left handed pitchers, but that's not ideal.
- 14:38Speaker 2: But if, but if Gorman goes down to Memphis sometime
- 14:41Speaker 2: soon as the odd man out, I mean, I think
- 14:44Speaker 2: it does give you, It does make it much easier
- 14:47Speaker 2: to make the pieces fit. And so if I had
- 14:50Speaker 2: to bet my two dollars at the at the betting window,
- 14:53Speaker 2: I would say Gorman would go. I just don't know when, right,
- 14:56Speaker 2: but it just seems like it's trending that way because
- 15:00Speaker 2: he's just not playing left handers of other or otherwise.
- 15:03Speaker 2: So and the fact that Walker hit that home run,
- 15:07Speaker 2: I mean, obviously it was a huge blow for the team,
- 15:09Speaker 2: but for him as well. And I just was struck
- 15:12Speaker 2: by the reaction shots watching the game on TV in
- 15:16Speaker 2: the dugout and just the look on his face. You
- 15:20Speaker 2: could see him like almost exhale, and so you got
- 15:23Speaker 2: to give him a chance of building that now. So
- 15:26Speaker 2: here's that word again. That was like a reset moment
- 15:28Speaker 2: for him, you know, and see what he does with it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. And to be clear, I don't think
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Cardinals are contemplating any roster moves to Memphis right now,
- 15:36Speaker 1: but there will be a time, and I'm so fascinated
- 15:39Speaker 1: to see what they do here. Where they're going to
- 15:41Speaker 1: have to choose. But if Gorman and Walker continue to
- 15:44Speaker 1: produce Gorman specifically, if if that happens, they're going to
- 15:49Speaker 1: have to choose. Do we stick to the guys that
- 15:50Speaker 1: we identified as the faces of this movement or do
- 15:53Speaker 1: we reward the guys that are playing well Like Alec,
- 15:56Speaker 1: Burlison has done a considerable job and understanding that he
- 16:00Speaker 1: is going to be the odd man out of playing time.
- 16:02Speaker 1: No matter how the Cardinals dice it up, there was
- 16:05Speaker 1: going to be somebody who they wanted to get at
- 16:06Speaker 1: bats for. That was they were not going to get
- 16:08Speaker 1: the bats for. And that was especially true when Arnatto
- 16:12Speaker 1: stayed and Burlson knew it was going to be him
- 16:14Speaker 1: as spring went on, and he had a great spring,
- 16:16Speaker 1: and with Gorman hert he got some consistent playing time
- 16:20Speaker 1: in April. But then when Gorman was healthy, they said, hey,
- 16:22Speaker 1: we're going to give him the run now. And Burlison
- 16:24Speaker 1: could have easily been pissed off or taken it personally,
- 16:28Speaker 1: or had that affect him. And talking to him, he said,
- 16:31Speaker 1: in years prior it would have he goes, but these
- 16:33Speaker 1: things work out and I've done a nice job of
- 16:35Speaker 1: staying prepared, and he has. He's done a really nice
- 16:37Speaker 1: job of staying mentally locked in knowing that he is
- 16:40Speaker 1: the better bat right now, the more productive bat from
- 16:43Speaker 1: the left side, and has done more offensively. Yet he's
- 16:46Speaker 1: going to get shafted from playing time right now. And
- 16:49Speaker 1: he's done a very nice job, at least externally of
- 16:51Speaker 1: wearing that and understanding the situation. And I wonder what
- 16:54Speaker 1: are the Cardinals going to do, because eventually they're going
- 16:56Speaker 1: to have to choose do you play the production or
- 16:59Speaker 1: do you keep going with the development and the runway
- 17:01Speaker 1: and hope something works.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Well, that's a great question and it applies to so
- 17:05Speaker 2: many areas too, because you know, you get to the
- 17:08Speaker 2: point where they if they keep winning and winning, uh,
- 17:11Speaker 2: you know, you get the trains moving down the tracks
- 17:13Speaker 2: and you can you know, what are they going to
- 17:15Speaker 2: like pause it themselves? Are they going to hit the brakes,
- 17:18Speaker 2: pull the emergency brake and stop the train from going
- 17:20Speaker 2: down the tracks because oh wait a minute's a runway season?
- 17:23Speaker 2: We oh, we better know, oh we got we We
- 17:25Speaker 2: can't try to win every game now, you know, we
- 17:27Speaker 2: have to make sure we have these guys in the lineup.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I mean on the face of it, it's preposterous when
- 17:33Speaker 2: you have a chance to be like one of these
- 17:35Speaker 2: surprises of the season, and so many of your younger
- 17:38Speaker 2: guys are unproven guys pitching, end and hitting are are
- 17:42Speaker 2: like really leading the charge, you know, And what point
- 17:46Speaker 2: do you?
- 17:46Speaker 4: Uh?
- 17:46Speaker 2: And again I'm asking like a very global question here,
- 17:49Speaker 2: but at what point do you in effect reward those guys.
- 17:54Speaker 2: It's just like, listen, you're doing a great job. You
- 17:56Speaker 2: you you fellas are just caring. You're you're setting the vibe.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You're setting the example, the energy, the excitement, the entertainment,
- 18:05Speaker 2: the competitiveness, you know. So, and listen, I know the
- 18:09Speaker 2: teammates support each other and that no one's going to
- 18:11Speaker 2: resent Nolan Gorman still being here or Walker still being here.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. And I think everyone's got you know,
- 18:18Speaker 2: better than I do. But everyone's got a great attitude.
- 18:20Speaker 2: You pointed out how Burleson's handled it's perfect. Uh, look
- 18:24Speaker 2: at how Miles Michaelis is handled is perfect. There's somebody
- 18:27Speaker 2: Matt's perfect. So, but at some point, if they keep winning,
- 18:30Speaker 2: you know, you you can't, you can't. The organization itself
- 18:35Speaker 2: can't be the one to set up an obstacle that
- 18:39Speaker 2: might slow them down.
- 18:40Speaker 1: What are we dealing with right now?
- 18:42Speaker 2: So well, I know what, Yeah, we don't know who
- 18:44Speaker 2: they are. But it's funny, yeah, I mean, John Mizalic
- 18:48Speaker 2: has a chance to just you know, have a really
- 18:51Speaker 2: good farewell season. I don't know what that would be.
- 18:54Speaker 2: If you draw a line in the sands. Oh they
- 18:56Speaker 2: got to make the playoffs. I don't think necessarily they do,
- 18:58Speaker 2: but we'll see. I mean, uh, listen, they were six
- 19:01Speaker 2: games out on May the second, and even though they
- 19:04Speaker 2: lost a game in the standings, today they are two
- 19:05Speaker 2: games out and they're starting to play well on the road.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Even the pitching has been really really terrific. If I
- 19:13Speaker 2: may say this, you know, the offense, and I'm not
- 19:16Speaker 2: being a chicken little but there's some things that concern
- 19:19Speaker 2: me just a little, no pun intended. You know, Victor
- 19:23Speaker 2: Scott has has stopped hitting, and you know, Iron Auto
- 19:27Speaker 2: had some hits today, but he was having he was
- 19:30Speaker 2: not having a great road trip. And again, these are
- 19:33Speaker 2: these are small blocks of time. It's not but I'm
- 19:36Speaker 2: just saying. And they they got shut down a few times,
- 19:39Speaker 2: so I think maybe maybe there is going to be
- 19:41Speaker 2: a point. If this kind of thing continues, if the
- 19:43Speaker 2: offense continues to struggle, Uh, they're they're gonna have to
- 19:47Speaker 2: make sure they have like bats in the lineup, like
- 19:51Speaker 2: maybe make exceptions without losing too much defensive value.
- 19:55Speaker 1: But that's it brings It's a great segue to my
- 19:57Speaker 1: next point. This is something that I talked to Ali about.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Does the overall success of the offense right now buy
- 20:03Speaker 1: you more time with Walker and Gorman and make it
- 20:06Speaker 1: okay to sit them a little bit and be a
- 20:07Speaker 1: little bit more patient. I mean, I think it does,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but he said he's not looking at it that way.
- 20:12Speaker 1: And I understand the Cardinals have been very intentional about
- 20:14Speaker 1: what their playing time is and what their plans are.
- 20:17Speaker 1: But when you're looking at different guys stepping up and
- 20:19Speaker 1: you have Contraras doing Contraras's things, Donovan turning into one
- 20:23Speaker 1: heck of a hitter in the three hole, we mentioned Herrera,
- 20:27Speaker 1: Mason Wynn also, I think kind of going under the
- 20:30Speaker 1: radar and what he's been able to do in the
- 20:31Speaker 1: two spot. Does that give you more time? Are you
- 20:34Speaker 1: more comfortable letting Walker and Gorman continue to struggle and
- 20:37Speaker 1: hopefully they figure it out because other guys are stepping
- 20:39Speaker 1: up because I think you and I have the same question.
- 20:41Speaker 1: When do you draw that line and make that decision
- 20:44Speaker 1: of runway verst results. We talked it's going to be
- 20:47Speaker 1: the question of the season, really, and the Cardinals don't
- 20:49Speaker 1: have to answer this right now on mate. They probably
- 20:52Speaker 1: will have to answer it before the middle of July.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But right now, the current pace of play and how
- 20:58Speaker 1: the Cardinals are stacking of wins has allowed them a
- 21:02Speaker 1: little bit more leeway before they make a decision. And
- 21:05Speaker 1: I don't think that, you know, I don't know if
- 21:07Speaker 1: that's the situation they were planning to have, and I, you.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Know, for Gorman's sake, And again I haven't looked at
- 21:12Speaker 2: any of the pitching matchups for the home stand, so
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm oblivious to that. But the best thing that Gormant
- 21:18Speaker 2: can happen to Gorman here soon is that they have
- 21:21Speaker 2: a run of games where they do face a lot
- 21:23Speaker 2: of right handed starters, and he starts to put some
- 21:25Speaker 2: numbers up. But you know, if you if you load
- 21:29Speaker 2: them up pretty much every time a right hander is
- 21:31Speaker 2: on the mound and he's still not making any kind
- 21:34Speaker 2: of progress, you know, at some point you have to
- 21:37Speaker 2: let him regroup in Memphis. I just think, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 2: because if it's not going to happen, where he can
- 21:41Speaker 2: regroup up up here. And again, I'm like you, I
- 21:44Speaker 2: don't have a calendar out. I'm not circling any dates.
- 21:47Speaker 2: It's just something you can see and you can watch,
- 21:49Speaker 2: and you know, if he's just stressing out and he's not,
- 21:52Speaker 2: he's just not making any progress there. There is going
- 21:56Speaker 2: to be a date on the calendar. The Cardinals will
- 21:59Speaker 2: choose that. But where it's better for him to play
- 22:02Speaker 2: every day, meeting hit every day then, you know, being
- 22:05Speaker 2: a guy, that's basically you know, keeping Jose Brera company
- 22:11Speaker 2: on the bench. Right.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Well, I just looked at the Detroit probables. Tigers still
- 22:16Speaker 1: have not announced a starter for Monday as of yef.
- 22:18Speaker 1: We probably might not. I don't know if there's gonna
- 22:20Speaker 1: be a game on Monday. Stop if you've heard this before, yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: rain in the forecast Google on Tuesday, So I doubt
- 22:28Speaker 1: we'll see Gorman there. And then old friend Jack Flaherty
- 22:30Speaker 1: makes his first start at Bushadium since being traded in
- 22:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty three for the rubber match on Wednesday, So
- 22:36Speaker 1: we'll see the Tigers talk about a youth movement. They
- 22:40Speaker 1: are playing some great baseball. I think the Tigers and
- 22:43Speaker 1: the Cardinals really match up well together in terms of
- 22:45Speaker 1: how they play. They do a lot of the little
- 22:48Speaker 1: things well. They can pitch the ball. They they're fun
- 22:50Speaker 1: to watch, so I'm excited for this series. Hopefully the
- 22:53Speaker 1: rain stays away. One more segment. Let's talk a little
- 22:56Speaker 1: bit about Matthew Libertore and some pitching things that we
- 22:59Speaker 1: are seeing. First, though, we need to hear from PXG.
- 23:03Speaker 3: This is a straightforward show, so I'm going to be
- 23:05Speaker 3: very straightforward with everyone about PXG. Fastest way to improve
- 23:10Speaker 3: your performance on the golf course is to get yourself
- 23:13Speaker 3: a PXG golf fitting. Go in there and let the
- 23:17Speaker 3: experts help you.
- 23:19Speaker 5: I've been using PXG for a few years now. Scotti.
- 23:21Speaker 5: They are perfect. I love the way they feel. They
- 23:23Speaker 5: fit them perfectly to my swing. They waited at them,
- 23:26Speaker 5: they put grips in them, they put shafts in them,
- 23:28Speaker 5: they use their heads and they fit my swing beautifully.
- 23:31Speaker 5: They have definitely improved my game. They just recently hooked
- 23:33Speaker 5: me up with their new Alan putter, which is off
- 23:36Speaker 5: the chain. I was draining putts the other day left
- 23:38Speaker 5: and right. So I definitely say go get your fitting
- 23:41Speaker 5: at PXG. Nobody goes golf the way PXG does.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Yes, and for a limited time you could save up
- 23:47Speaker 3: to twenty percent on your entire order.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Head over to PXG dot.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Com slash val that's PXG dot com slash foul to
- 23:54Speaker 3: save up to twenty percent on your entire order. PXG
- 23:59Speaker 3: dot com slash fowl. Restrictions apply seasite for details.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Matthew Libertor another quality start. He goes six innings of
- 24:09Speaker 1: one run ball against the Royals with no decision, drops
- 24:12Speaker 1: his ERA to two nine to two. That's the lowest
- 24:15Speaker 1: ERA in the rotation. He's tied with Eric Fetti for
- 24:17Speaker 1: the most innings pitched outside of a range shortened start,
- 24:21Speaker 1: and his start against Philadelphia, He's notched at least six
- 24:23Speaker 1: innings and all of his starts so far this season.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He has a three point eight percent walk rate that
- 24:30Speaker 1: is one of the lowest in baseball. I believe he's
- 24:32Speaker 1: in the ninety fifth percentile, and he just continues to
- 24:36Speaker 1: get better and better with each start. When you're looking
- 24:39Speaker 1: at a transition year, I thought this quote. You can
- 24:43Speaker 1: read about it in the Athletic tomorrow from Ollie was
- 24:47Speaker 1: summed it up perfectly. I asked him why it was
- 24:48Speaker 1: important to make sure Libertor got this opportunity to be
- 24:51Speaker 1: in the rotation, and Allie said it would be a
- 24:53Speaker 1: disservice to Libertor and to what the organization was trying
- 24:57Speaker 1: to do in twenty twenty five to not see what
- 24:59Speaker 1: he could do in the rotation. And he is providing
- 25:03Speaker 1: the textbook, the blueprint on a young player having an
- 25:07Speaker 1: opportunity and seizing it and seeing what that upside is.
- 25:10Speaker 1: He is My favorite starts are Libby starts so far
- 25:13Speaker 1: this year.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Well, I'm with you there very much. So you know,
- 25:16Speaker 2: his last even with the rain hit well, I'm sorry
- 25:21Speaker 2: his start was shortened by the rain out, or not
- 25:23Speaker 2: the rain out, but the game insince nat gosh, I've
- 25:26Speaker 2: been you know, after surviving a torpedo. I'm kind of
- 25:29Speaker 2: like on Sunday night, I'm frazzled, so so forgive me. No,
- 25:35Speaker 2: he's been incredible. But his last seven starts got a
- 25:38Speaker 2: one d e r A. And you mentioned his strikeout
- 25:40Speaker 2: walk ratio. It's one of the best by a starting
- 25:42Speaker 2: pitcher in baseball, which is why his fielding independent e
- 25:45Speaker 2: RA is in the top seven or eight of all
- 25:48Speaker 2: major league pictchers. So you got you got that going.
- 25:51Speaker 2: He's got that going for him. But the other thing,
- 25:53Speaker 2: you know, last last seven starts, like he's allowed one
- 25:56Speaker 2: home run, but he just doesn't give up gopher ball.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I mean, he just does it. And that when you're
- 26:04Speaker 2: not walking guys, you know you're not and he isn't
- 26:07Speaker 2: and you're not letting him take you deep. You know,
- 26:10Speaker 2: I'd say, I'd say one home run in seven starts
- 26:14Speaker 2: is pretty good, but not not letting them go to
- 26:16Speaker 2: go deep. I mean, you're a really really good picture.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And the thing that jumps out at me and and
- 26:21Speaker 2: you and others is that I think he did build
- 26:25Speaker 2: confidence in the really in the reliever role last year.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I did you know, he realized, hey, I can do this,
- 26:30Speaker 2: and he was aggressive any attack and you started to
- 26:33Speaker 2: see that side of him. But my goodness, this guy
- 26:37Speaker 2: now on the mound, you know, like the with the
- 26:40Speaker 2: Royals say, you know, they get a couple of guys
- 26:42Speaker 2: on right away and you know, in an inning or whatever,
- 26:45Speaker 2: and you know, I'm sitting there and I'm like, he's
- 26:47Speaker 2: got this, He'll be all right, because he's just so confident.
- 26:50Speaker 2: It's like he totally believes he can handle any situation.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So it's an entirely different guy that way, because he's
- 26:58Speaker 2: just filled, he's just loaded with confidence. Now there's no
- 27:01Speaker 2: self doubt whatsoever. And he's found he's obviously found ways
- 27:06Speaker 2: to get right handed batters out, his his pits variety
- 27:09Speaker 2: is excellent, his pit sequencing is excellent. He's really really smart.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's just amazing how how much of a
- 27:16Speaker 2: finished product, Sorry for the cliche, but how much of
- 27:19Speaker 2: a finished product he he all of a sudden is
- 27:22Speaker 2: where it all came together just like that, you know.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So I hope that he can continue because he's a
- 27:28Speaker 2: great dude, and he's been waiting a long time for
- 27:31Speaker 2: this chance, and he's had to have, you know, here,
- 27:34Speaker 2: years and years of like Randy Rose Arena, Randi ros arena,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you're you know, and that's not fair to him. He
- 27:40Speaker 2: didn't make the trade. But I know John Moselic said this,
- 27:44Speaker 2: and I'll shut up after this, and John Mozelle like
- 27:46Speaker 2: you know, said a couple times, three, three or four
- 27:49Speaker 2: times when I talked to him along the way, He's
- 27:51Speaker 2: like it was kind of like like, well, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I don't think we should judge that trade just jet.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I think there's you know, I've I think we'll look
- 28:00Speaker 2: at it, you know, at some point down the road
- 28:02Speaker 2: and feel really good about it. And maybe that was
- 28:04Speaker 2: wishful thinking, but I think MO might turn out to
- 28:08Speaker 2: be right. You know.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I think you're spot on about Libby's confidence, and it's
- 28:13Speaker 1: evident not just from where he was in twenty four
- 28:16Speaker 1: to twenty five, but in every start so far he's
- 28:18Speaker 1: only got more and more confident. And in this profile
- 28:21Speaker 1: of Libby that comes out tomorrow again on the Athletic,
- 28:25Speaker 1: lots of good information from people that he's super close with.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know, Dusty Blake has said his mindset, he's either
- 28:30Speaker 1: going to come into a game and he's going to
- 28:32Speaker 1: do something great, or he's going to learn from it
- 28:34Speaker 1: and half the time after things ing that doesn't go well,
- 28:37Speaker 1: or so he doesn't execute. Before I can even get
- 28:39Speaker 1: to him, he's telling me what I was going to
- 28:42Speaker 1: tell him. So he's so aware, he's hyper aware, he's
- 28:44Speaker 1: so routine oriented. He believes in the process, and he
- 28:47Speaker 1: told me, and it was just a really candid interview
- 28:49Speaker 1: with Libby that what he went through in twenty two
- 28:53Speaker 1: and twenty three. The up and down, the back and
- 28:55Speaker 1: forth was one of the hardest things that he'd ever
- 28:57Speaker 1: experienced in his career. He wouldn't wish on anybody, but
- 29:00Speaker 1: he said that experience was invaluable, and he believes that
- 29:03Speaker 1: because he went through those things, that's why he's going
- 29:05Speaker 1: to be effective as a starter. That's why he believed
- 29:07Speaker 1: in himself. He has a completely different mindset than he
- 29:10Speaker 1: did two years ago. And credit to him for handling
- 29:13Speaker 1: that and choosing to take this path and how he
- 29:16Speaker 1: approaches it. Credit to the Cardinals for saying, hey, we
- 29:19Speaker 1: need to give this, you know, former top prospect, number
- 29:23Speaker 1: one draft pick or first round draft pick, a legitimate
- 29:26Speaker 1: shot because we haven't so far. We need to see
- 29:28Speaker 1: what his upside is and if it plays, and if
- 29:30Speaker 1: it plays, all of a sudden, we have a starting
- 29:32Speaker 1: pitcher in our organization that we didn't know we had.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And not only do you have a serviceable starting pitcher,
- 29:38Speaker 1: they have I think one of the most exciting pitchers
- 29:40Speaker 1: coming up in the National League. With Libby and John
- 29:43Speaker 1: Mozelof said, you know, in a season in spring training
- 29:46Speaker 1: based on Runway, when the Cardinals were having a staff meeting,
- 29:49Speaker 1: to figure out what the final spots of their roster
- 29:51Speaker 1: were going to be. One of the biggest questions they
- 29:53Speaker 1: had was what are they going to do with Matthew Libertor.
- 29:57Speaker 1: In a movement pushed by Allie and Dusty and backed
- 30:00Speaker 1: by everybody in the room, including Mo, it was Libby
- 30:03Speaker 1: needs to start, and most said something that was very
- 30:06Speaker 1: eye opening. We talked about runway, but Libby created his runway.
- 30:12Speaker 1: He changed his trajectory in the organization. They wanted to
- 30:16Speaker 1: reward him similar to the way they did Victor Scott.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I think they're a very good comparison Victor Scott on
- 30:20Speaker 1: the position side, Libby on the pitching side, and we're
- 30:24Speaker 1: seeing what happens when you have a player with high upside,
- 30:27Speaker 1: get the opportunity and know that they're going to perform
- 30:30Speaker 1: every single day and run with it. So while as
- 30:32Speaker 1: much as we want to see Jordan Walker Nolan Gorman
- 30:34Speaker 1: figure it out, that Matthew Libertor and Victor Scott the
- 30:37Speaker 1: second are doing so that is so so encouraging to me.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it. They're the breakout guys so
- 30:42Speaker 2: far this season, and there's still hope for some others,
- 30:44Speaker 2: but they've been it's really a you know, if you
- 30:47Speaker 2: don't mind me, this is very much related, okay to
- 30:51Speaker 2: what we're seeing the Cardinals. You know, my brother who
- 30:53Speaker 2: lives in between Baltimore and DC's and Orioles fan as
- 30:57Speaker 2: I was growing up, and so we were talking and
- 31:00Speaker 2: he was talking about I can't believe how bad the
- 31:02Speaker 2: Orioles are. I just can't believe how awful they are. Yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 2: right right, and I you know, and he and he said,
- 31:10Speaker 2: you know, I think, he said, I'm not that guy.
- 31:12Speaker 4: You know me.
- 31:13Speaker 2: He said, I think they're going to have to fire
- 31:15Speaker 2: hide And I said, I think so too. And I know,
- 31:18Speaker 2: I know that the general manager failed to build any
- 31:21Speaker 2: kind of rotation that matters. I really get that. But
- 31:23Speaker 2: there's still a lot of talent on that team. So
- 31:26Speaker 2: you may you and some of our viewers may say, well,
- 31:29Speaker 2: why the heck's he talking about the Orioles. Because what
- 31:33Speaker 2: I told my brother, and I do watch the Oriols
- 31:34Speaker 2: a lot, they have no identity. There's no team personality
- 31:40Speaker 2: when I watch them. Okay, all right, what like what's
- 31:42Speaker 2: their approach on offense? Like what are they trying to do?
- 31:45Speaker 2: What have they have? How have they shaped their hitters
- 31:47Speaker 2: in terms of like, all right, this is what we do,
- 31:50Speaker 2: This is what we want to do, this is our approach.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Are they a running team or are they a power team?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Are they a base running team? I like, who are they?
- 31:59Speaker 2: They have no identity? Right, none? And so I told
- 32:04Speaker 2: my brother this and I said, you know, contrast that
- 32:07Speaker 2: to Saint Louis. I said, because all manager can do
- 32:09Speaker 2: is get the best out of what he has. And
- 32:12Speaker 2: I told my brother, I said, you know, because he
- 32:14Speaker 2: watches the Cardinals too, and I said, think about the
- 32:17Speaker 2: Cardinals team. They're the exact opposite of that Baltimore team.
- 32:20Speaker 2: This team has an identity. This team you can count
- 32:23Speaker 2: on them to play with like very very high level
- 32:26Speaker 2: of energy, very intense competitively. Yet they there's a joy
- 32:30Speaker 2: to their game. They're always smiling, there's a personality. And
- 32:35Speaker 2: so I thought the failure of the Orioles and their manager.
- 32:40Speaker 2: You know, because I watched both of those teams, it
- 32:43Speaker 2: made me appreciate what Ali Marvel and these coaches and
- 32:46Speaker 2: these players are doing in Saint Louis. They don't have
- 32:48Speaker 2: the talent of the Baltimore Orioles. I think maybe pitching
- 32:51Speaker 2: wise they do, but offensively they don't. I mean, the
- 32:55Speaker 2: Orioles have all these you know, after years a draft
- 32:58Speaker 2: in first, second, third, fourth, fifth in the draft, you
- 33:00Speaker 2: know there's no way they should be worse than the Garden.
- 33:03Speaker 2: It's much worse. I think that's a good I think
- 33:06Speaker 2: that's a good reflection on the coaches and the manager here.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And I don't think the coaching staff is getting enough
- 33:12Speaker 1: credit because it can be Obviously it's on the players
- 33:15Speaker 1: to execute. But when you talk to them lately, the
- 33:17Speaker 1: first thing they do is credit the staff for the
- 33:21Speaker 1: game prep and the positioning. We talked to Brendan Donovan
- 33:23Speaker 1: Saturday night, player of the game. He saved the game defensively,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and the first thing he said was, I think I
- 33:28Speaker 1: need to go out and say, like, credit to the staff.
- 33:30Speaker 1: They have made sure we are so prepared the season.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And when you think about where the Cardinals were heading
- 33:35Speaker 1: into the year and the overall vibe of the organization,
- 33:38Speaker 1: it could have been so easy to let that seep
- 33:41Speaker 1: into the clubhouse and just kind of have that apathy
- 33:43Speaker 1: wash over. But those young guys said, hey, you know what,
- 33:46Speaker 1: just because people aren't counting us to play doesn't mean
- 33:48Speaker 1: that we can't. We can go out there and we
- 33:49Speaker 1: can ball, we can learn some things. And the more
- 33:52Speaker 1: a young club bonds like that earlier in the season,
- 33:55Speaker 1: the better they're going to get. And I will say,
- 33:58Speaker 1: after Saturday night's game, a couple of my friends in
- 34:01Speaker 1: the industry texted me and said, are you ready to
- 34:03Speaker 1: cover the playoffs this year? I said, don't put that
- 34:05Speaker 1: on me in May. Don't put that on May. But
- 34:07Speaker 1: who would have thought that would even be in the
- 34:09Speaker 1: realm of possibilities to be discussing six weeks into the season.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Well, the run deferential jumps out at you, really, and
- 34:16Speaker 2: you know the fact that they've have so many wins
- 34:19Speaker 2: over teams that right now have a winning record, and
- 34:22Speaker 2: now they're starting to win on the road, and they
- 34:24Speaker 2: have some they have some depth, they're building some depth
- 34:26Speaker 2: in the bullpen, and they even have back up in
- 34:29Speaker 2: the rotation if they needed so. I mean, there's a
- 34:33Speaker 2: lot of good things happening now, and we've already learned
- 34:36Speaker 2: about this team that they can handle getting knocked down,
- 34:39Speaker 2: getting flattened. Yes, I mean before they before April twenty
- 34:44Speaker 2: fifth is when they started to turning around. I mean
- 34:46Speaker 2: they were ten and fifteen. I mean the only team
- 34:50Speaker 2: worse than the National League was Colorado. The Cardinals and
- 34:52Speaker 2: the Pirates had the same record, So that could have
- 34:56Speaker 2: been something that would like, if not crush a young team,
- 34:59Speaker 2: could have like really messed them up and made it
- 35:02Speaker 2: hard for them to kind of have that immediate bounce
- 35:04Speaker 2: back that's they do. They do so in other words, well,
- 35:09Speaker 2: what happens if they go through a stretch where they
- 35:12Speaker 2: get beat up a little bit, Well, we've already seen
- 35:14Speaker 2: that they handled it really well. They punched back with
- 35:19Speaker 2: very in a very impressive way. So I think they
- 35:22Speaker 2: have shown that they know how to deal with stuff
- 35:24Speaker 2: when it's not going good at all, and that's something
- 35:28Speaker 2: that I have some faith in them to be able
- 35:31Speaker 2: to do that throughout the season. But they're gonna have
- 35:33Speaker 2: some bad phases. Everybody does. But I know, I really
- 35:36Speaker 2: really like watching this team.
- 35:38Speaker 1: And I think it's better to struggle in April and
- 35:40Speaker 1: succeed in May than vice versa, because now that you've
- 35:43Speaker 1: seen what it looks like and you've seen their ability
- 35:45Speaker 1: to rebound, I think it's just easier to buy in.
- 35:48Speaker 1: So let's see these cars can keep it going. They've
- 35:50Speaker 1: done a nice job so far. They're back at Bushadium
- 35:52Speaker 1: for six games. Three versus Detroit off day on Thursday,
- 35:56Speaker 1: three versus Diamondbacks should be two very compelling series, whether permitting.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Speaking of whether Saint Louis, I know it's been a
- 36:02Speaker 1: really brutal weekend, very tough. Just getting back to town
- 36:05Speaker 1: about an hour ago and driving through Forest Park or
- 36:08Speaker 1: around Forest Park and seeing the destruction around there. You've
- 36:11Speaker 1: been affected. Hope hopefully everything is safe and good in
- 36:14Speaker 1: your world. If you've been affected, We're thinking of you.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Many different resources available online for those of you who
- 36:19Speaker 1: need help or looking to help. One thing I've learned
- 36:22Speaker 1: in my time in Saint Louis this is a community
- 36:24Speaker 1: that really comes together in terms of crisis and emergencies.
- 36:27Speaker 1: So stick with it, hug your loved ones, and enjoy
- 36:32Speaker 1: this recent stretch of Cardinals baseball because it has been
- 36:35Speaker 1: super fun. Burning out you know time.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I'm sorry Katan times with this too. This is where
- 36:40Speaker 2: sports can be really valuable, can can get your mind
- 36:44Speaker 2: off your troubles, even for two or three hours a night.
- 36:46Speaker 2: So anyway, I think the Cardinals have maybe maybe even
- 36:50Speaker 2: over the weekend, helped that out a little bit. Maybe
- 36:52Speaker 2: that's presumptuous to me to say, but I know going forward,
- 36:54Speaker 2: they'll be in a position to sort of boost the
- 36:57Speaker 2: morale of the community. And they're good they're good citizens
- 37:00Speaker 2: that way too. So anyway, yeah, well said by you.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I just wanted to add to it. Thank you.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Let's see, I thank you. Keep it going, Bernie. I'm
- 37:07Speaker 1: excited for it, and I'm interested also to see what
- 37:10Speaker 1: the fan turnout looks like now that they're winning ball games.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And to be fair, I don't think on Monday, Tuesday,
- 37:14Speaker 1: Wednesday interleague series with rain in the forecast all three
- 37:17Speaker 1: days will be a good measurement of attendance. But I
- 37:20Speaker 1: think the weather is going to be a little bit
- 37:21Speaker 1: better this weekend. D bex are a good club, so
- 37:24Speaker 1: let's see. Let's see it Bush looks a little more
- 37:27Speaker 1: full this wee.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I was gonna joke that, you know, like
- 37:31Speaker 2: a couple of the biggest crowds I've seen all year
- 37:33Speaker 2: Cardinals fans were in Kansas City's ballpark, So yeah, maybe
- 37:37Speaker 2: maybe bad joke. Had it was there, I had I
- 37:40Speaker 2: had to take a swing. Now, I hope, I hope,
- 37:43Speaker 2: I hope we'll start to see the see a red reappear.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I hope so too. Be good for baseball makes for
- 37:48Speaker 1: a much more fun summer for Bernie. I'm Katie. This
- 37:50Speaker 1: is Cardinal Territory. We're back with you with three more
- 37:52Speaker 1: episodes next week. Thank thank you, as always for listening,
- 37:56Speaker 1: and Stacy out there.
