- 0:01God just, that was the message he kept giving me is you need to help women heal.
- 0:05But then Satan was like, well, who do you think you are?
- 0:08But he loves to come in that, in that side door and whisper and say, oh, nobody's gonna listen to you.
- 0:13And.
- 0:14And so I think the first thing is that I had to really recognize the voice of God and recognize the voice of the adversary.
- 0:24That was.
- 0:24That has been really important to me.
- 0:26And one tool that I use to help me and I use this daily is affirmat.
- 0:32I need to be reminded every day of who I am and of my purpose.

- 3:21So exciting, Sandy.
- 3:22So I just can't wait to ask this question, but tell me about this new podcast that is launching the same week as this episode.
- 3:30So just, just give me a quick, exciting update on that.
- 3:34Well, it's called From Heartbreak to Healing.
- 3:36And the mission of the podcast is to bring hope sound principles, practical tools, and hope centered in Jesus Christ, the master healer.
- 3:46So I'm so excited to.
- 3:48In fact, this morning I got a text from the editor who is working on getting it ready for me to publish.
- 3:54And just the intro helped this editor across the country, across the world actually, who was going through a divorce and, and he felt hope.
- 4:04And that is what I'm hoping, is that people can go away inspired.
- 4:09They can go away with tools and connection to Christ and the strength and power that we can draw from him.
- 4:16Well, and there's such need for that, don't you think?
- 4:19I mean, this is what we.
- 4:22Let me, let me just back up.
- 4:23Why don't you tell me how you feel God called you into this mission of extending hope and healing to others because I know it was quite a journey, right?
- 4:33It was a journey.
- 4:34And, and I, you know, I was broken.
- 4:38I became very broken.
- 4:40I lost my dad in 2018, and in 2019, my husband left me and married my best friend.
- 4:46And then in 2020, my mom was diagnosed with cancer.
- 4:50And I took care of my mom and my canc.
- 4:52My mom and my brother, who both passed in 2021.
- 4:56And I hit rock bottom and I, I needed help.
- 5:00And I actually wrote a poem about how I was a rock, I was solid, people could count on me.
- 5:06Maybe I was a little proud too, right?
- 5:09Maybe.
- 5:09Maybe I needed to be humbled.
- 5:11But I was pulverized.
- 5:13And I was sand.
- 5:15And sand, it can't be strong on its own.
- 5:18It requires, you know, tools.
- 5:21It requires others to make it strong.
- 5:24And that was a good lesson for me, that I need to reach out and I need to allow others, and especially the Savior, to give me the strength.
- 5:32And what I love about sand is it can be refined into glass.
- 5:35And, and so I've been through this refining process and I've been able to see God's purpose in me as he's refining me and, and creating things for me that I never expected it.
- 5:48My story really is a beauty for Ashes story, how he can take all this tragedy and turn it for his purpose.
- 5:54And for my good, it's been a beautiful experience.
- 5:57So after all this heartbreak and finding a grief coach that walked me through the healing process, my life was transformed.
- 6:04And the spirit called me to, you need to help other.
- 6:08Other women who are struggling.
- 6:09You need to help bring them to the master healer.
- 6:12You need to equip them with good tools and empower them.
- 6:15And so it was not what I had done before.
- 6:18This is all new.
- 6:20And I've never felt so much joy in the work that I do.
- 6:24Oh, wow.
- 6:27That is such a powerful inspiration.
- 6:30It really, really is.
- 6:31Because.
- 6:32And.
- 6:32And I think this is something that in our minds, anytime we've been through a severe grief or a trauma, we often feel like we are stuck in such a deep, dark hole.
- 6:46Right.
- 6:48And we wonder, is it even possible to heal from that?
- 6:53There's a lot of people out there that say, no, you will have that weight on your shoulders, that pain and stabbing in your heart for the rest of your life.
- 7:03What would you say to that, Sandy?
- 7:06I would say that is God's.
- 7:08Not God's purpose for us.
- 7:10His joy is for us, or his purpose is for us to find joy in this life.
- 7:14And he's created our bodies to be able to heal, and he's created opportunities for us to be able to grow.
- 7:22And all of this is a growth experience.
- 7:24And I believe we can stay stuck.
- 7:26I was, for quite some time, stuck.
- 7:29I was stuck in victim mindset.
- 7:30I was stuck struggling to forgive.
- 7:33I was just stuck.
- 7:37And I needed some help to help me move forward and to be able to see hope, to see how I can heal and move forward.
- 7:45But he offers that to us.
- 7:47It is there.
- 7:48And we don't have to feel the weight of grief for the rest of our life.
- 7:52We will feel sadness.
- 7:54We will miss those that we loved that are gone.
- 7:57That is true.
- 7:58But it doesn't have to be the heavy weight of grief that just binds us down.
- 8:02And I didn't think I would ever be happy again.
- 8:05I.
- 8:06I truly didn't.
- 8:07I thought my life was.
- 8:09The good of my life was over.
- 8:11And that's not true.
- 8:12And that's not his plan for us.
- 8:16Wow.
- 8:17That is a beautiful reminder to us.
- 8:22And.
- 8:23And it gives us hope, right?
- 8:25It gives us hope that, okay, circumstances like divorce or death or anything else that can trigger grief.
- 8:34That.
- 8:34That does not mean your life is over.
- 8:38But I like how you also emphasize that it's okay to be stuck, because a lot of people feel stuck for a while.
- 8:47And I guess my question to you, you obviously found somebody that Helped you.
- 8:56Helped you kind of start moving in the right direction.
- 9:00What.
- 9:01What tip would you share with someone who is stuck right now and they're like, oh, my gosh, Sandy, I.
- 9:07That is where I am.
- 9:09What one tip would you share with them to start moving through the grief?
- 9:17Well, I think the first thing is to know that it's okay for you to be right where you are.
- 9:22Mm.
- 9:22It's part of your journey.
- 9:23And it's okay, because I think if we get down on ourselves, you know, I should be.
- 9:28That just causes shame.
- 9:30Right.
- 9:30So what if it's okay that you're right where you're at?
- 9:33And what if there's hope for healing and.
- 9:35And the ability to move forward?
- 9:37So I think the first step is just this acceptance of where we are and that it's okay.
- 9:43And I get to choose how I move forward.
- 9:46I get to choose to heal.
- 9:49And making that choice, I had to reach out.
- 9:53I got to the point where I knew I couldn't do this any longer, and I had to reach out for someone who knew how to guide me.
- 10:00So I would say find someone who can guide you to healing.
- 10:04Find someone who has experienced healing, who is inspiring, who will lead you not only to proper skills and tools, but also to the master healer, because ultimately he is the one who can heal our hearts.
- 10:19I think time alone is.
- 10:22Is important.
- 10:23So if you're fresh, give yourself grace.
- 10:27It is going to take time, and that's okay.
- 10:30It is part of the journey.
- 10:31But time alone doesn't heal correctly.
- 10:34Right.
- 10:35We need to go get our.
- 10:36Our bones splinted or whatever it is.
- 10:38Right.
- 10:39We do need effective tools.
- 10:41We need sound principles so that we can heal correctly and.
- 10:45And.
- 10:45And move forward in a happy, joyful, purposeful way and not stay stuck.
- 10:52Yeah, that's.
- 10:53That's very wise.
- 10:54I love that.
- 10:56Oh, those are heavy things, Sandy.
- 10:58My goodness.
- 10:59But it.
- 10:59But it does give us hope.
- 11:01Right?
- 11:01Okay.
- 11:01So if you're stuck, there is hope.
- 11:03We'll start with that.
- 11:05So, Sandy, let.
- 11:06Let's kind of go back to this journey.
- 11:09You.
- 11:09You feel you've been called to help other people.
- 11:12Tell me exactly what your calling is that God has called you to do some obstacles that you've encountered as you have stepped or tried to step in and now are stepping into it more fully.
- 11:26This.
- 11:26This calling of helping others who are struggling.
- 11:30Well, I think Satan knows our weakness as well.
- 11:34And so the first was after I had experienced healing and my life had shifted.
- 11:40Everything in my life had changed after divorce.
- 11:42And so I needed to find A new career.
- 11:45And I felt called to help other women who were experiencing this and not just women.
- 11:51I've had.
- 11:52You know, I've had conversations with men, too, but I feel called to help women.
- 11:58And the thought on my heart is that if you can help a woman heal, you're helping not only her, but her family and generations.
- 12:07And God just.
- 12:09That was the message he kept giving me, is, you need to help women heal.
- 12:12And.
- 12:13But then Satan was like, well, who do you think you are?
- 12:16Like, this isn't your background, right?
- 12:19And so, you know, I went through and I became certified.
- 12:22But he loves to come in that.
- 12:24In that side door and whisper and say, oh, nobody's gonna listen to you.
- 12:28And so I think the first thing is that I had to really come to this space where I could turn that off and.
- 12:40And recognize the voice, right?
- 12:43Recognize the voice of God and recognize the voice of the adversary.
- 12:48That was.
- 12:48That has been really important to me.
- 12:50And one tool that I use to help me, and I use this daily is affirmations.
- 12:56I need to be reminded every day of who I am and of my purpose.
- 13:01And so I have a list of affirmations that are stuck to my mirror that I remind myself.
- 13:06I set myself up every day to.
- 13:08To be able to live in my purpose.
- 13:11And that has been a huge shift for me and has really helped me, like, fight the adversary and those voices that want to say, who do you think you are?
- 13:21But God knows who I am, and he's given me this.
- 13:24This opportunity to experience really hard things and then be able to use that to glorify Him.
- 13:30And I just have to remember that.
- 13:32So that's the first thing.
- 13:34And then the great thing about God is that he loves to see us grow.
- 13:40And that means he loves to see us, like, stretch and step into discomfort.
- 13:45And so I thought, okay, I'm just going to be a coach, and that's it.
- 13:50And then I started helping teach grief coach certification courses for my mentor.
- 13:55And now I do that.
- 13:56I teach grief coach certification.
- 13:58And that was a big stretch and growth.
- 14:01And then my latest was this.
- 14:04You know, you need to start a podcast, and who am I?
- 14:09Right?
- 14:09It's the voices again.
- 14:10Satan knows that's a good attack on me.
- 14:13And so I had to be so intentional.
- 14:16And a lot of times it's easy to be busy doing stuff that makes you think you're being productive and moving towards the mission, but I finally had to just be so intentional.
- 14:27Today I am going to.
- 14:30And then I picked what I'm going to do.
- 14:32To move forward to the calling that he's put on my heart.
- 14:34Yes, it's scary and it's uncomfortable.
- 14:38And listening to my house self talk and editing myself, like, that's uncomfortable.
- 14:43Right?
- 14:43And.
- 14:44And I can nitpick it or I can go into it with prayer and just say, God, please help me say the words that I need to say that will reach who you need it to reach and.
- 14:54And trust him.
- 14:56And so that has been a big thing is trusting.
- 14:58He's put this on my heart.
- 15:00He knows I'm not perfect.
- 15:01He's not looking for perfection in any of us.
- 15:03And I think that's where we get often caught up is in this perfectionism.
- 15:07I didn't start the podcast for, like, five months because I knew it wasn't going to be perfect.
- 15:15That's not okay.
- 15:16He doesn't expect perfection.
- 15:18I love thinking about the creation.
- 15:20Right.
- 15:22He didn't expect the world to be created and everything done in one day.
- 15:28Every day something was done.
- 15:29And that is good.
- 15:30And the next day.
- 15:31And that was good.
- 15:32And it was enough.
- 15:32And it was.
- 15:33It was.
- 15:34It was good enough for him to do a little bit every day.
- 15:38And.
- 15:39And so I just started to like, okay, what am I going to do today?
- 15:44And.
- 15:44And I'll do that, and that is enough.
- 15:46And then I'll work on it again tomorrow.
- 15:48And so kind of changing my perspective of, I don't.
- 15:52It doesn't need to be per.
- 15:54I just.
- 15:54My best is all he's asking for.
- 15:56And that shift has been helpful, too.
- 15:59Oh, my goodness.
- 16:00You just shared several really good nuggets there.
- 16:04Just restating a few of them.
- 16:06When the adversary whispers those doubts in your mind, that imposter syndrome, it is so, so common.
- 16:13Right.
- 16:13Anytime we're stepping into something new and different, the adversary is right there to, nope, you can't do that.
- 16:19You're not smart enough.
- 16:20You're not strong enough.
- 16:21I love that you countered that with affirmations.
- 16:25Would you mind sharing a few of the affirmations that you say to on your mirror?
- 16:31I would, as you were doing that, I'm like, I need to put my affirmations on my mirror.
- 16:37You know, and they change.
- 16:38I will say that.
- 16:40So in the beginning, my affirmation was, I can do all things through Christ.
- 16:45Like, I would repeat that throughout the day.
- 16:48And I would say, I choose hope.
- 16:50Like, in the beginning, that's what I needed to tell myself.
- 16:54And so I think affirmations, knowing that they can change and they can be what you need to know right now.
- 17:00And being Flexible to shift them when you need to.
- 17:03When you need to grow a little bit more.
- 17:05And so now my affirmations are, I am an empowered woman here to glorify God and to share hope with others.
- 17:13That's one of my affirmations.
- 17:15I say every day, like, I need to be reminded that this is the call he's put on my heart.
- 17:20And with Him, I can do this.
- 17:24Oh, I love that.
- 17:25I love that so much.
- 17:27Now, you also mentioned that now that you're stepping into this podcasting and it's been new and scary, and again, the adversary is attacking you.
- 17:36You used prayer.
- 17:38I heard you say that, you know, praying through it.
- 17:41I also love that you reminded yourself that God doesn't expect us to produce perfect things all at once, you know, and.
- 17:52And nothing we are going to do is ever going to be perfect.
- 17:55Right.
- 17:58But I also loved how you said it took me about five months to do that, because sometimes I think it takes our brains time to process that and go, okay, I'm going to do this.
- 18:11It's scary.
- 18:13And.
- 18:13And working through that process, through prayer.
- 18:17Because that's what I had to do as well.
- 18:18I had that.
- 18:19I had a time period before I launched my podcast, my first podcast, where I had to kind of battle it out and deal with some personal issues first so that I could feel comfortable sharing my voice and my
- 18:35story with the world.
- 18:36And I had to realize that my voice was worth listening to, you know, and that is hard.
- 18:43And the only way you get through it, again, it's, we're pointing back to Jesus.
- 18:47This whole podcast, right, is through Christ.
- 18:50I love, love, love that.
- 18:52Not only in your grief coaching do you point back to Christ, but in your.
- 18:56In stepping into your calling, you've had to lean on him, you know, and.
- 19:02And that has really been my anchor.
- 19:05And from when I was just too weak to stand to now.
- 19:11I think one of the scriptures that I love that has really helped me is, um, in proverbs, lean not to your own own understanding.
- 19:21And that's where I find myself.
- 19:22I find myself.
- 19:23Oh, I should, I should, I should, right?
- 19:26But when I.
- 19:27When I start grounding myself in him, centering myself in the Savior and not leaning, because if we're leaning to our own understanding, we're off center, right?
- 19:37And so if I recenter myself in Christ, the promise of that scripture is that he will guide us, he will direct our paths.
- 19:45And so I've had to really focus on turning back to him in prayer and being in his word to say, okay, what, What Is it you want me to know what is it you want me to say?
- 19:59How should I move forward?
- 20:01And we're promised that we'll get that direction.
- 20:04And so trusting that if I lean on him and not lean to my own understanding and get out of balance, that I will get the direction that I receive.
- 20:13And that has been so help.
- 20:17Oh, my goodness.
- 20:18I absolutely love that analogy.
- 20:20I've never thought of that verse of Scripture as an actually leaning off balance, but that makes so, like, that visual image in my mind.
- 20:30That is so true.
- 20:31Right?
- 20:33Yeah, I love that.
- 20:36All right, I'm going to ask you to tell me a story.
- 20:39Take me to a point where.
- 20:43Where you really had to lean on God and tell me a story of what that looked like and how he helped you move forward in.
- 20:53In.
- 20:53In this journey, in this calling of doing hard things.
- 21:02I think probably one of the biggest transitional moments of my life was when I was really struggling to forgive.
- 21:12And after experiencing divorce and betrayal, I was struggling.
- 21:18And God's word tells us we need to forgive.
- 21:21If we want to be forgiven, we need to forgive.
- 21:23And.
- 21:24And I truly wanted to.
- 21:26And.
- 21:26And I'm a very visual person, just like visualizing that Scripture.
- 21:30And so I just remember visualizing just kneeling at the Savior's feet.
- 21:36And this weight was heavy.
- 21:37I'd been carrying it a long time, and I didn't want to carry it, and it wasn't fair.
- 21:43And sometimes it's really hard to forgive when you're a victim.
- 21:47And so I was trying to wrestle with this, trying to figure out how to do this.
- 21:51And I just remember praying and just putting it at his feet.
- 21:54I just visualized kneeling at the Savior's feet and just giving him all of it and just praying that he would take it from me and.
- 22:02And allow my heart to be free of this, because I didn't know how to do it.
- 22:06I wanted to do it, but I didn't know how.
- 22:08And so that visual of just.
- 22:09I mean, I just sobbed and just pictured him right in front of me, and me at his feet and crying and giving it to Him.
- 22:18And when I finished praying, that darkness in my heart was gone.
- 22:24All of a sudden, my heart was filled with light and love.
- 22:27And, like, there was a weight lifted.
- 22:30And I.
- 22:30And I will say that in.
- 22:32When you go through hard things and you've been a victim of something, often you pick it back up, right?
- 22:38And you go, wait, wait, wait.
- 22:40I've already.
- 22:40I've already.
- 22:41I've already said I was going to forgive this.
- 22:43And so.
- 22:44But I Got really good at practicing because that's what he wants us to do, is practice, not perfection.
- 22:51It's not a one time I forgive and I'm done.
- 22:53That's why it says 70 times 7, right?
- 22:56Because it's something we get to practice over and over.
- 23:00And so I got to continue to practice going to the Savior and not just forgiveness, but all of my heavy burdens instead of carrying them.
- 23:10He's told us he'll carry our burdens.
- 23:13One of my other favorite go to scriptures when I'm struggling is Matthew 11:28 through 30, which is, come unto me, all you that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- 23:25And when you're weary, that's all you want is rest.
- 23:29And so learning how to just be at his feet and give him my burdens has transformed my life.
- 23:37That is probably one of the biggest transformative experiences of my life.
- 23:41And now I continue to use that visualization to bless me so that I can free my heart again and again so that I can feel his light and love.
- 23:54Oh, that.
- 23:55Thank you for sharing that tender and sweet experience.
- 24:00It is so helpful to know that no matter where you are in life, because we're all carrying burdens of some kind.
- 24:06Right.
- 24:08That we can give those burdens to the Savior and probably ask for a little bit of help not to pick them up again.
- 24:17Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:19Because I've done that same thing.
- 24:21I'm like, here, take this and kind of you leave and kind of dragging it a little bit back with you.
- 24:27You know, just, no, no, I'm leaving this.
- 24:29I don't want to take it back with me because it is so much easier to say that you do it versus actually doing it.
- 24:38Right.
- 24:40Yeah, well.
- 24:41And I think it's important to understand what that looks like.
- 24:43I had a woman come to me the other day, just so sad.
- 24:46She said, I just feel like I am not trusting God.
- 24:49I can't just give it to him because I keep worrying about it.
- 24:53And I said, okay, well, let's talk about this.
- 24:54Because I don't think he means give it to him and don't think about it again.
- 25:00I think it's when we're thinking about it, it's like if we're shopping for, you know, a red blazer, we're going to see red blazers everywhere, a red car, whatever that is.
- 25:07Right.
- 25:08I don't think it means we don't think about it again.
- 25:11I think it means we trust that he's going to give us an answer and he's going to Help us, because he doesn't expect in.
- 25:18In our broken abilities that we can just forget all of our worries.
- 25:25I don't think that's the expectation.
- 25:26And this poor woman was so down on herself because she was praying for help and she was praying that she could trust him with this, but she was still thinking about it.
- 25:35I said, well, is that wrong?
- 25:37And what if in the thinking about it, you're able to come up with solutions and you're able to find the solutions because it's present in your mind.
- 25:45So I think we need to be careful a little bit.
- 25:48Sometimes we think giving it to him means that we don't think about it anymore, and that's.
- 25:53That's beyond our ability in our minds.
- 25:56So giving ourselves lots of grace, that we just keep doing it.
- 26:00We keep turning to him and he'll give us answers.
- 26:02And little bit by little bit, line upon line, it'll come.
- 26:09I think that is true personally and also in business, right?
- 26:14In whatever we're doing that.
- 26:16I've gone to God so many times, too, as a businesswoman and said, here's what I'm dealing with.
- 26:22You know, this.
- 26:23This challenge with setting up this business or this podcast or whatever it is, and how do I.
- 26:30How do I solve this?
- 26:31You know, giving those problems to God, whether it's the heaviness of grief or the heaviness of challenges that we're dealing with in.
- 26:45In school, in work, in whatever, that we can give that to him and say, help me.
- 26:54Help me figure out the right solution, you know, and then listening for those answers.
- 26:58Or maybe different times, they come in different ways.
- 27:03Sometimes it's through a friend talking to us that, you know, the little light bulb moment happens.
- 27:07You're like, oh, my gosh, that's totally it right there, you know, and other times it's in the scriptures that we'll find the answer.
- 27:15Or, you know, they come in different ways.
- 27:18But what a blessing it is.
- 27:21I love that you shared how.
- 27:24How it is that we can turn to him, give him what we're struggling with, and then it's a partnership almost.
- 27:33Don't you think?
- 27:34I do.
- 27:35I think it is.
- 27:36And I think, you know, he tells us to.
- 27:37To ponder on it, to think about it like he tells us to.
- 27:42I mean, he wants us to use what we have and to be thinking about it.
- 27:46But the.
- 27:47The balancing act is not leaning on our own understanding, right?
- 27:51It's trusting that he will provide the answer.
- 27:54And the way he is the way.
- 27:56And his ways are higher than ours.
- 27:58And if we Trust that he'll provide the answer, the direction, all of that.
- 28:02And so it is a partnership.
- 28:04Instead of just doing it my way, it's a partnership.
- 28:07And if we do that, the blessings come.
- 28:09The answers come so often through friends or through a sermon or through the scriptures, or it could even come through a song.
- 28:17Right?
- 28:18It's so amazing how many ways he can speak to our hearts and give us the answer and the comfort and the guidance that we need.
- 28:26So, so wise.
- 28:27Thank you.
- 28:28Sandy, question.
- 28:31You have shared a lot about how, who you have become through this process and what you do.

- 30:44Oh, wonderful.
- 30:45Thank you.
- 30:46Thank you.
- 30:46Thank you so much.
- 30:48Before we conclude this podcast, I have one final question I'd love to ask you, and that is for the woman out there who is maybe a little bit nervous about stepping into her divine calling, what would.
- 31:04What message of hope would you share with her?
- 31:09Well, I think one of my mantras and from the scriptures is I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.
- 31:18And so I would say, if you're feeling called, know that you can do anything you're called to do.
- 31:23This was way beyond what I ever thought my life would look like.
- 31:27And I.
- 31:28I mean, who wants to be a grief coach?
- 31:30Like, let's start there, right?
- 31:32I never thought when I grew up I want to be a grief coach.
- 31:34But God.
- 31:36God provides a way.
- 31:37And whatever he calls you to do, you will find joy and purpose in that because of Him.
- 31:44He will.
- 31:45He will guide and direct and strengthen.
- 31:48And it's exhilarating to glorify Him.
- 31:54There's no other word to describe it, just the opportunity to.
- 31:58To share a message of hope and bring others to Christ and glorify him brings so much joy and strength and power into my own life that when we step into the.
- 32:11The call God has given us, there is greater love and joy and light and sense of purpose than I ever imagined.
- 32:19So don't be afraid of the scary next steps and the discomfort, because I feel like God compensates tenfold for those who are willing to step into this space of.
- 32:32Of stepping up to do things for Him.
- 32:36Oh, my goodness, Sandy, thank you so much.
- 32:39Those are just perfect words to end on.
- 32:43And oh, my goodness.
- 32:45Thank you for sharing your story.
- 32:47Your story being brave of walking through kind of a crazy time period during your life, but also sharing how God gave you such hope and such purpose that this is now what you do for others.
- 33:02It is so inspirational.
- 33:04So thank you for sharing your amazing story of hope.
