- 0:00Two point nine the Folkstone and Hyde Sports podcast every local sport across the district.
- 0:18This is Kevin Sports very daily here on one of five point nine Academy
- 0:21FM bring you the Folks, Done and Hide Sports show. On today's show,
- 0:30well last week you know what they say about the best laid plans or
- 0:34what could possibly go wrong? Well, unfortunately my three guests who were d
- 0:39to come in today couldn't make it. I mean that's due to work commitments
- 0:42and we do understand that. However, I have tracked down at Danielle,
- 0:47who is the Folks and Sports Center gym manager and also takes various indoor cycling
- 0:53and weights classes, and in the final letter of my at Z of Local
- 0:57Sport alphabet, I will be join by Kelly, who is a Z for
- 1:02Zumba instructor. Oh by the way, i still have to find some a
- 1:06few other missing letters, but I'm sure I'll get there, don't worry.
- 1:11Also on the show, we have football, a rugby, hockey under eighteen's
- 1:18football, Netball running reports, plus a couple of sixties songs from Heartbeat,
- 1:25a good luck wish to deal Town in the quarterfinals of the FA Bars,
- 1:30and a tribute to a Harry Biker and I meantime, let's listen to the
- 1:36Beatles and nowhere Man, and then after that we'll have some local music.
- 1:42No man sitting in his no landing, a local music there from Ariva and
- 1:59a song called Lose My Mind. I quite like that one. It's quite
- 2:01powerful, isn't it. That's good? Good start to the show. Right?
- 2:05Football news now, folks, and in Victor's Saturday away game was called
- 2:07off after an early pitch inspection at the Chessunt Ground, which at least saved
- 2:12them a trip round the twenty five into Harbordshire. The next league game scheduled
- 2:16is at home to Kingstonian or a bottom of the table that's this Saturday,
- 2:21the ninth of March, but a friendly was arranged away against Sheppard United on
- 2:24Tuesday evening. Sheppey Is away game on Saturday at Burgess Hill was also canceled,
- 2:30so both teams welcomed a bit of match practice. Unfortunately, in Victor
- 2:34lost two to one Hivetown. Now, now, it was a pretty sure
- 2:38thing that hive Town's away game at Herne Bay was going to go ahead due
- 2:40to Herne Bay's artificial pitch, So listen to this report from our man on
- 2:46the spot, Tom lerb hythe came out on top away at Herne Bay on
- 2:50Saturday, winning two to one against nine men. Steve What was once again
- 2:53unable to attend the match, but made just one change from the midweek victory
- 2:57over Little Hunts in Town as Josh Wisson replaced the injured Keen Garlinch. The
- 3:00game started well for Herne Bay as they took the lead after two minutes when
- 3:04Scott Hurd's cross found Cain Rowland, who tapped it in. Things appeared to
- 3:08be going from bad to worse when Ethan Smith went down injured and had to
- 3:12be replaced by the returning Brad Schaeffer. Despite this, Hyde stayed in the
- 3:15game and they were rewarded with an equalizer on the half hour mark as a
- 3:19Fanny Colin free kick was knodded in by Josh Whisten from close brains to level
- 3:23the scores. The Canons were then able to take the lead on the stroke
- 3:25of halftime, and it came from a set piece once again. Jack Stevenson
- 3:29sent in a long throw from the right hand side which was flicked on by
- 3:31Liam Smith and knocked into the net by Aaron Barnes, much of the light
- 3:36of the traveling High fans. The Canons started the second half in the same
- 3:39fashion as they'd finished the first, having the majority of the chances but failing
- 3:43to trouble Harry Brooks in the Herne Bay goal. The Bookings began to take
- 3:46their toll on Herne Bay midway through the half and they had a man sent
- 3:50off on sixty nine minutes when Caine Rowland committed the foul on goalkeeper Jack West
- 3:53his duty, resulting in him getting a second yellow. On eighty two minutes,
- 3:58when Brad Schaeffer was made a run towards goal, defender li and Friend
- 4:01brought him down and picked up his second yellow card the match, resulting in
- 4:04her and babying reduced to nine men. Despite the two man advantage, hither
- 4:09unable to capitalize and it was the host who came closest to scoring on eighty
- 4:13seven minutes as ex Canon Danny Walder hit a pinpoint three kicks towards goal which
- 4:16Jack West's duty managed to tip passed his left hand post to win the game
- 4:20for Hive. The full time whistle blue to mark an important three points for
- 4:24the Cannons, who moved up to night as a result. Well thank you
- 4:28Tom for that excellent report. Tuesday Union they were supposed to play at home
- 4:31to Cray Valley, but once again postponed due to that water log pitch as
- 4:35a strange it's because Cray had previously said that if it happened, they were
- 4:40happy to play the game at their ground that was also water log So Saturday
- 4:45I've tried again at home at Hondan. I mean, it's not just hive.
- 4:48Teams and clubs are just having a torrid time with this reign. So
- 4:53you know, you can't stop nature. It just pulls down. If it
- 4:56doesn't drain away, you've just got to give you time. Liltary out and
- 5:00there are clubs that their pitches are absolutely flooded, and so just bear with
- 5:04the clubs who do want to get the games on because they'll be playing three
- 5:09games a week at the end of the season. Moving on to the Kent
- 5:13County Premier League, now Hawkins Town's away game at Tenderlon Now that was also
- 5:17canceled. Only one game survived out of the eight fixtures on Saturday. The
- 5:21Hawk's next game is away at Bexley, who are thirteenth out of sixteen teams,
- 5:27whilst Hawkins remain in second spot. Now some news now about in Victor
- 5:32under eighteen's Sunday morning. I popped down to watch Paul Stantons Under eighteen so
- 5:38i'd play Faversham Strikeforce on the three G pitch. I missed the start.
- 5:43I wasn't too late, but I found out they were one kneel down.
- 5:46The game looked sharp and competitive and there was a host of young talent on
- 5:49the pitch there and I was really impressed. As I turned round, I
- 5:54couldn't help but notice hordes and hordes of people around the hockey pitches. So
- 5:58with my nosey sports verryhead, I thought, let's go and find out what's
- 6:00going on. I spoke to Janet Fuller and her colleagues, who told me
- 6:04it was the Ken Under ten's girls hockey tournament, with teams from all over
- 6:09the county taking part, and that in the afternoon it would be the turn
- 6:12of the boys under tens. I stayed and watched a bit and then thought
- 6:15I let's go back and watch the football or. When I got back,
- 6:18the Invictor boys were too one up. So there's three goals I missed in
- 6:23Victor were pressing all the time, but Faversham made a break and the player
- 6:27was tripped in the box. Nobody argued and a penalty was awarded. The
- 6:30kick was taken and the Invictor goalie made a brilliant full length save, but
- 6:34the Fabshon player reacted the quickest and buried the rebound. So the game was
- 6:39played out for just the last few minutes and I left as the final whistle
- 6:44was blown with the score to all. However, I made a classic schoolboy
- 6:47era and didn't realize it was a cup game, a quarter final in fact,
- 6:53so it meant extra time. Well I found out later in Victor won
- 6:57the game six to three. So that's nine goals scored and I only saw
- 7:00one. Oh yeah, perhaps this time for a career change. A couple
- 7:18of great tracks there from the late seventies Doobie Brothers. There were the Full
- 7:21Beliefs that was in seventy nine and the song about December sixty three, well,
- 7:26that was recorded in nineteen seventy five. Back to some hockey news now,
- 7:31so we've got a round out of the weekend hockey scores. Let's start
- 7:34with the stats from the Folks and Optimists well, at the weekend they was
- 7:40twelve games played, they won four, they lost three, they drew five
- 7:45and the goals four was twenty six and listen to this, the goals against
- 7:48was also twenty six. So lots of goals and lots of drawn games there,
- 7:53So here we go. Then, the men's first eleven lost one Neil
- 7:57to Hulcombe actually Hulk themb a very strong club side I had often providing players
- 8:01for the full England side. They lost one new Unfortunately, the seconds had
- 8:05a great eight to three win over Gillingerman Courian's keeping them top of the league.
- 8:09Goals coming from Ben Allen who scored a hat trick, Isaac Hopkins and
- 8:13Hugo Ferno got to a piece, and Lorc and Doyle scored one. The
- 8:18third beat Canterbury for neil goal shared out between Steve Timmins, Alex Cross,
- 8:24Simon Thompson and Tom Jones. And it's not unusual for Tom Jones to score.
- 8:28Oh god, how many times is a year that The fourth teen drew
- 8:33three all with burn Ash Ross Dreiber scored twice and Lemmy Fury got the third.
- 8:39The fifteen drew too, all thanks to two goals from Charlie Pepper.
- 8:43The sixteen beat Mardin Russetts three to one, and the seventh team drew two
- 8:48all with another Mardern Russets side. The Ladies first team drew They drew one
- 8:52all with high flying Guildford thanks to a short corner goal coming from Hannah Harvey
- 8:56with the last touch of the game. The Ladies Seconds lost four nil to
- 9:01seven Oaks. The Thirds drew one all with Mardon Russetts thanks to a goal
- 9:05from Emplin, and the fourth teen beat Herne Bay to nil. And I
- 9:09had to double check this score. I couldn't believe it, so I got
- 9:11in touch with Amy and she said it was right. The successful of fifteen
- 9:16would beaten nine nil by Noel Park who had a mixture of youth and experience
- 9:20and were just too strong. Now, when you get a goalkeeper who lets
- 9:24in nine goals, Amelia bates and earns herself the player of the match.
- 9:28How many goals did she actually keep out? She must have been busy a
- 9:31whole of the game. So we do to you, Amelia. And I'm
- 9:35sure they had come bouncing back after that defeat. I've never heard of that
- 9:39before. The fifteen losing nine nil and I've just got a little bit of
- 9:43news here. Actually the under ten hockey tournament I was telling you about earlier,
- 9:48but it seems that the boys winners were Seven Oaks and Marden was the
- 9:52girl's winners. So we're going to go on to a bit of music now.
- 9:56We have got Hu and Cry. Strange old song is called Looking for
- 10:01Linda one O five point nine Academy FM. Well, we had a couple
- 10:24of songs from the seventies earlier, and that was a couple from the eighties
- 10:26that was Nick Kershel I Won't let the Song go down on Me that was
- 10:30around about eighty three, and before that one Hu and Cry. It's a
- 10:35strange old song, but it does grow on you, doesn't it. Looking
- 10:37for Linda. I wonder if you ever found her? All Right, it's
- 10:41time for a bit of rugby news now from Folkston the first fifteen at a
- 10:45fine forty six to ten victory at home of a Maidstone on Saturday. This
- 10:48sees them in third place, five points behind park House and eight points behind
- 10:54the leaders Seven Oaks, who will be the next opponents in an away fixture
- 10:58on the sixteenth of March. No game for the seconds Their game is on
- 11:01Saturday away to East Peckham and Packetwood. East Peckham and paddock Wood. That's
- 11:09there's not two teams, no, it's one team joined together. This will
- 11:11be a tough one as folks in our third and East Peckham are fourth with
- 11:16just four points between them. The third fifteen lost a close, high scoring
- 11:20game to Old Graves Indians, going down thirty one points to thirty six.
- 11:24That must have been some game, wasn't it, But even the players didn't
- 11:26know what the score was. The next fixture is this Saturday away to a
- 11:31Deal and Betsanger. No, that is not two teams. That is a
- 11:33combination of the Old Deal team and the Betsanger Colliery team. Now they are
- 11:37sixth and Folkston are seventh. This weekend is another session of the Six Nations.
- 11:43Italy are at home to Scotland and I'll tell you what this is one
- 11:46to watch is Italy are improving every game and it's shown on ITV at two
- 11:50point fifteen. England are at home to the title favous Island a kickoff at
- 11:56four forty five, also on ITV. And on Sunday Whales played France three
- 12:01pm kickoff on BBC one, so it's nice to see all three games on
- 12:05the mainstream TV. The table reads as follows. This is before the weekend's
- 12:09games. Island are top with fifteen points, then Scotland with nine, England
- 12:15have eight points, France next with six points, and then Wales and Italy
- 12:20both have three points. Lady Hos, time for a bit of Climby Fishing
- 12:24now. I Love changes everything. Okay, we are moving up the years
- 12:41there it's Jennifer Page and Crush. That was right about ninety eight. But
- 12:45going back in time once again, that was Climbie Fisher. Love changes everything
- 12:48from eighty seven right. I'm really trying to crammell this sport in the first
- 12:54hour because I'm hoping if they can make it. We've got two guests coming
- 12:58in and the trouble is finding this place now because Road of Remembrance is still
- 13:03out, isn't it It just froze you right out if if we go right
- 13:05around the town to get down to the harbor. So we're going to crack
- 13:09on there with some netball news. This is from the Folks to Netball League.
- 13:13Well, the winter season is now over and the results table has been
- 13:18published each team has played sixteen matches, so I run through the finishing positions
- 13:22in reverse order. In ninth place, we had Ice. In eighth place
- 13:26we had Scorpions. Seventh was Black Widows, sixth was our five was Tornadoes,
- 13:33the fourth was the Vipers. Third place was the Jets. The runners
- 13:37up was the Woodpeckers and the winners by nine points. Congratulations go to the
- 13:41Panthers. Now, the Summer League started on Wednesday, and players have had
- 13:46the option if they can't commit to joining a team, they can become a
- 13:50floater so that you can play when it suits you. Games are played on
- 13:54Wednesdays at six forty five and eight pm at the recently refurbished coll at the
- 14:00Three Hills. So please visit the folks the Netball League facebook page for all
- 14:03the contact details and the Netball League are holding a tournament on Saturday, the
- 14:07thirtieth of March. That's Easter Saturday and is open to all other leagues.
- 14:13It's for affiliated players only and each each team has to provide an umpire.
- 14:18It's being held at the Three Hills and will run from approximately nine thirty to
- 14:22three pm, depending on how many teams they have. And I remember watching
- 14:28some of this tournament last year is fast, it's furious, especially in the
- 14:31bar afterwards. Once again, please visit the Folks the Netball League Facebook page.
- 14:37And I just got this report in this morning from last night's games.
- 14:41That's Wednesday's games. Vipers beat the Tornadoes thirty two to thirty, Tigers beat
- 14:46the Black Widows thirty seven to seventeen. The champions Panthers beat Woodpeckers forty one
- 14:50twenty six. And there's a new team called the Rough Diamonds and they got
- 14:54off to a great start beating Ice thirty one twenty three. So a big
- 14:58thing to Hannah Palmer there. She's my media contact and my media guru for
- 15:03the netball teams. As we say, if you want to find anything out
- 15:07about folks in the Netball League, they do have a Facebook page. Well
- 15:37nearly five minutes there of Madonna like a prayer. And like I said before,
- 15:41I'm trying to just get all this sport in. We've got two lovely
- 15:45ladies raring to go in a studio and have a chat about Zumbat and the
- 15:48sports center. But in the meantime it's time for a bit of running news.
- 15:52And this is from the Folks and Running and Athletic Club. Twelve runners
- 15:56headed off to paddle Wood on Sunday to take part in the half marathon event,
- 16:00which is attracted over two thousand runners. This falls nicely in the running
- 16:03calendar for athletes who are preparing for a spring marathon. First home for the
- 16:07club in twentieth place overall was Dan Radcliffe in an impressive time of one hour
- 16:11ten minutes fifty four seconds. The winning time, by the way, was
- 16:15one hour five minutes forty seconds. Personal bestper recorded by Nick Bryant one hour
- 16:21twenty four forty two, Katharine O'Connor one hour thirty five thirty three, Vicky
- 16:26Scott, who I know for a Factors training for Manchester one hour thirty five
- 16:30thirty six and Gary Brazier one hour fifty five fourteen seconds. Two runners from
- 16:36South Kent Harriers are in the field, Sarah Arana Morton run one hour forty
- 16:40four twenty four and Margaret Connolly one hour fifty three thirty five and staying with
- 16:45the Harriers of the Couch to five K ten week course reaches its climax on
- 16:49Saturday, when some of the participants will run their first ever five k run
- 16:55at the Folkstone Park Run and I hope to have coach Karen Quinn and hopefully
- 16:59one of the students who's completed the ten week course in the studio here next
- 17:03week for a chat. For many, the lid half and the twenty mile
- 17:07will be the next on their training agenda. This takes place on Sunday.
- 17:11It must be one of the flattest courses around, but on race day you
- 17:14just don't know what's going to happen. In the past runners I've had to
- 17:17face wind, rain and one year there was actually a tree came down on
- 17:19the course. Luckily nobody was hurt. So I'll be on the mic that
- 17:23day at the finishing line, encouraging runners as they crossed the line. Okay,
- 17:27so time for a bit of music and we have got the Four Tops.
- 17:33What a great classic track this is. This is Kevin Sports very Daily
- 17:56here back in the studio, second hour of sports. We crambed loads and
- 18:00stuff in the first hour, but we've still got plenty of stuff to get
- 18:04on with. So don't go away. Make sure that kettles on two sugars
- 18:10for me. Put your feet up. We've we've got two lovely guests coming
- 18:15up both from the folks and sports Center where we can be chating to them
- 18:18shortly. I've also got to do my little rendition of what I've been watching
- 18:23at Heartbeat. And know I'm boring you and I'm getting all the stick in
- 18:26the world about Heartbeat, but the way they link the situation on the show
- 18:30with a song is just amazing. So they're going to talk about that,
- 18:36and I'm going to do a little tribute to a man that passed away.
- 18:40That would be right at the end of the show, and I'm sure you
- 18:41will love this one, so stay with us. Starting the second hour,
- 18:52We've got some Stevie Wonder and some vocal music H four five South Good Fisher
- 19:07German Bye East fear in South four or five occasionally six rain, then fair
- 19:15Goods four five occasionally six la rain, then fair. It is on this
- 19:21film, I'm thinking, oh, we've got a CB outside breaker one night
- 19:25if you've got the weather forecast. But no, that was phenomenal, cats
- 19:27local music there and postcards from somewhere. But you know, Okay, So
- 19:36we're back in the studio and today I'm pleased to welcome two guests to the
- 19:40show. We have Danielle who's the Sports Center gym manager. Good morning,
- 19:42Danielle, Morning Kevin, and we are joined by Kelly, who is also
- 19:47Zoomba instructor. Good morning or afternoon? Good enough, yes, long old
- 19:52right, so fantastic. I'm so pleased you could come in today, ladies,
- 19:56because for a number of reasons, I've been trying to get people in
- 20:00from the Sports Center for a while and it is a tough time with you
- 20:03got classes and things to do. But I'm especially please to see you,
- 20:06Kelly, because I've been doing this eight set of sport and the people said
- 20:10to me, what are you going to do for z I'll say so easy,
- 20:11Zumba. I've just got to find a zoomber instructor. So Danielle,
- 20:15let's start with you. Tell us a bit about your background and how you
- 20:18became a gym manager. Well that was many years ago, now ten years
- 20:22I've been there, yeah, ten years. So I went through a little
- 20:26bit of a difficult stage in life of a bereavement and stuff and sort of
- 20:33had no direction and headed to the Sports Center for something to do. Yeah,
- 20:37to get some structure in life. Did you think at the time it'll
- 20:41be ten years that you'd be there. No, I didn't even think,
- 20:45you know, just done a few classes, took part myself, done some
- 20:48gym work and stuff, and then one day just form I could do this.
- 20:52Oh I quite like this. The lessons have you learned? There?
- 20:56Isn't there? You know, if you're feeling a bit down and a bit
- 20:57low your self esteems bit low is get out there and do some sport exactly.
- 21:03So what is your role? I mean gym manager? You've got to
- 21:06crack the whip and make sure classes are on time, that sort of thing.
- 21:08Yeah, a bit of that, is it? Yeah, a bit
- 21:11of that bit of programming for our gym members. Teaching classes, so you
- 21:18actually teach yourself to you I do, yeah classes. So in that period
- 21:22of time, you've you've sort of moved on to uh did you? Was
- 21:26you into instruction at the time when first game? No, no, not
- 21:30straight away. I was just a just a gym instructor obviously wasn't manager at
- 21:34first. So just a gym instructor instructor first and then onto manager. Yeah
- 21:40yeah you still but you still teach classes as well. Yeah, okay,
- 21:44so what classes you teach? I teach REVS, which is our sort of
- 21:51version of indoor cycling. We're not allowed to say it, but I will
- 21:56say it because but you can't help but say it. It's sp i in.
- 22:00We're not allowed to say it's a trademark, but you know what we're
- 22:02talking about. And what else do you do? And also a couple of
- 22:06different classes called sculpt and tone. Sculpt and tone, Yeah, what is
- 22:10that? I remember for the first time hearing bums and tumbs and I fell
- 22:15about laughing, you know, but people just saying now rolls off the tongue.
- 22:18So what is sculpting? Sculpt and tone? What is that? So
- 22:22I've just sort of named it myself. Yeah, my own sort of design
- 22:26of my class, my workout. So it's just upper body and lower body
- 22:30sort of toning exercises that can be including weights and sometimes not sometimes just your
- 22:36your body weight. But and what sort of clean tell have you got?
- 22:41Age group? And how often do your classes run? So on Tuesdays and
- 22:45Thursdays. I do my classes in the mornings, and I have a wide
- 22:48range of age groups that come to my classes. Sometimes they're younger ones,
- 22:55but the majority of the time it's more sort of around the fully plus age.
- 23:02And there's such a lovely group of regular ladies that come along. Right.
- 23:07Well, we're just going to switch over to Kelly now and talk about
- 23:08Zumba. Kelly's tell us, say you got into zomba. She was a
- 23:14bit of a raver in your youth, and you like disco maybe a little
- 23:17bit. So I became a fitness instructor twenty three years ago. I qualified.
- 23:22I used to go to a local aerobics class and again, similar to
- 23:27Danielle, I thought, I like this. It makes me feel good,
- 23:30and I think maybe I can help other people feel good. So I qualified.
- 23:36I did an exercise to music qualification. So I started off teaching like
- 23:41bum's legs and toms, basic aerobics, things like that, and then sort
- 23:45of saw that zumber was around and thought, yeah, I quite like the
- 23:48look of that. So twelve years ago I became a Zomba instructor. So
- 23:52I did the course to qualify as a zumber instructor. And that's my passion,
- 23:59absolute passion. I love it. I teach other classes as well,
- 24:03but Zomba is right up there. Oh yeah, absolutely. Well. It
- 24:07was a sad day for me when aerobics was fizzling out because I used to
- 24:11love aerobics, and I did go along to classes back in the day.
- 24:15Then. I think things have changed now, but I was the only man
- 24:18in the class and they always used to put me at the back, in
- 24:21the corner and out of the way. Things have definitely changed now, Yes,
- 24:25absolutely. You get lots and lots of men coming along now and yeah,
- 24:30and then they seem to do it with all a smile on their face,
- 24:33and yeah, that's great because at the time I felt the odd one
- 24:37out, being the one man in the class and used to get some funny
- 24:41looks. But after the how our people used to some of the ladies just
- 24:45so you're really good at that, you know. Yeah, And it was
- 24:48because I was enjoying it. Sad to say, when it changed the zoomba,
- 24:52my coordination wasn't quite up to it. I did try, but I
- 24:57sadly declined to keep it up. I have done a few charity zoombers,
- 25:03and we were talking off here now about Zombethon, a word I haven't heard
- 25:06for a little while. Do you get involved with zumbon? I do,
- 25:10yes. I've been asked quite a few times by generally ladies that come to
- 25:14my class if they've got you know, friends that want to raise a bit
- 25:18of money or personally, I've had some friends that we've raised money for and
- 25:22it's just a nice way of the community coming together really and also people just
- 25:29having fun. Yeah, a good cause for a good cause and raising a
- 25:33lot of money. So yeah, they're well worth doing. Absolutely, I
- 25:36think one of them. I went to Dan at hive there was for a
- 25:38Sayings charity and Born Babies charity, very close to my heart actually because you
- 25:44know, for a few reasons. But yeah, there was cake sales going
- 25:48on, jumble sales, and also yeah, we normally have a raffle after
- 25:52the zumbethon, and again it just raises those extra funds for the charities that
- 25:56need it. Yeah, okay, Dan, you're coming back to you talking
- 25:59about raising money for charity. Do you get people approach you and say can
- 26:03I hire the gym to do an event? Does that ever crop up?
- 26:04Or do you kind of do your own thing and pushing them You think to
- 26:07yourself, you know, it's a good cause out there's just go for it.
- 26:11We haven't had anyone approach us for quite a while for anything like that,
- 26:15various different things. Obviously, they normally approach my boss for things like
- 26:21that, for the fundraising stuff and charity events and stuff like that. But
- 26:25we haven't had anything for a little while. Okay, we'd be open to
- 26:29good idea. Yeah, I mean in your in your rota of stuff.
- 26:33Is there time when the gym is actually there doing nothing or is it on
- 26:37the go all the time? We have different periods in the day where it's
- 26:42quiet and then sometimes it's not. It's different rights the people that come in
- 26:45as well. You get the early morning ones that they'll come in get their
- 26:48work out of the way with before work, and then as the morning goes
- 26:52on, you get people coming in after their school drop off. Yeah,
- 26:56that's a good catchment point that Yeah. Yeah, might get a few of
- 27:00the older generations that come in a little bit late morning then go in the
- 27:04cafe in and come in get their little workout. But it's a massive social
- 27:11aspect as well. They come in and there will be a little social gathering.
- 27:14There's certain few that come in and they have their chat as well as
- 27:17their work out. Yeah great, and then nip into the calf for a
- 27:19cuppa as well. That's the best part of is't it exactly? Okay,
- 27:25we're going to take a little break now play some music, but we will
- 27:26be back because we've hardly touched a surface on this well song there called Black
- 27:45is Black, And I'll tell you what I've worn out. We've been zombering
- 27:48all in a studio. I've pulled a muscle. I'll never be able to
- 27:52do a four minute mile again. I'm really trouble it. But so we're
- 27:56going to talk uh back with Danielle. Daniel Now, tell us about a
- 28:00typical day in your life as a sports center gym manager or typical day never
- 28:07the same, never the same. Could start off with an appointment, or
- 28:15it could start off with a class or just making sure that the classes that
- 28:19are running are running smoothly and everything's needed. So in the main center is
- 28:26where the gym is, and we also have studio too, and our Revolutions
- 28:33studio in the main center, which cycling, and then over the other side
- 28:41of the car park we have a smaller building which is the well Being building
- 28:45and we have studio one in there. Okay, what building, sorry,
- 28:48the well Being Yes, yes, so that's where they've got the toning tables
- 28:52and chairs and they do different treatments and therapies and massages and stuff like that
- 28:56over there, so well worth going and have a look. Right, all
- 29:00of our members get ten percent offers over there as well, so just worth
- 29:03mentioned. Oh yeah, yeah, any special offers. We're all up for
- 29:07sharing that. Yeah, sharing a little bit of panpering, you know.
- 29:11Yeah, those are difficult when if you like, one class finishes and another
- 29:15class starts, you know, there's a little sort of five minutes either side
- 29:21handover time. Do the instructors sort of go up to five minutes, you
- 29:25know and sort of call that their hour? Yeah, generally they've sort of
- 29:29either finished if there's a class. There's not always a class that goes straight
- 29:33after one back to back, sometimes there is, and sometimes they'll just finish
- 29:37their class a couple of minutes early, so they've got enough time to get
- 29:41everyone out, make sure everything's cleaned down and tidy ready for the next class
- 29:45to go on. Yeah, okay, and you're final in general that the
- 29:51participants respect that. Oh yeah, definitely. All of our members are lovely,
- 29:55they really are. Yeah. Okay, that's good to know. Yeah,
- 29:59So, apart from yourself the indoor cycling and spinning around type things,
- 30:03what else goes on in you know, what sort of hat of the classes
- 30:07could people go? I mean, are there out and outweight lifting type classes?
- 30:11So you tell me. We have in Studio two, which is in
- 30:15the main building, we have pump classes in there, so that's evolving weights
- 30:21like hand weights and bars, which is all sort of to the beat of
- 30:25the music, so it's, you know, to the time of the music.
- 30:27It's coordinated, so that's different moves upper body, lower body again with
- 30:33your handweights and with your bar, so that goes on in there. We
- 30:37also that's where zombra is as well. In Studio two, Bums and tums
- 30:42happens in there, which everybody knows bums and times. It's been around for
- 30:47many many years or belt as it was always referred to, Yeah, bums,
- 30:53legs and toms. And then over in Studio one in the well being
- 30:57building, that's where we have all of the classes like yoga, pilates and
- 31:04tai chi and stuff like that that go on in there. So could you
- 31:07help someone supposing someone I don't know wasn't used to exercise and I've been putting
- 31:14a bit of weight on and they didn't know what class to go for,
- 31:17could you advise them, as you know, yeah, definitely, Yeah,
- 31:21definitely, there's always you know, something different or something for everyone to be
- 31:26doing, depending on their circumstances. You know, what they've done before,
- 31:30if they've done nothing, or if they've just done a little bit of exercise,
- 31:33if they're just a walker, you know, we'll design a program for
- 31:37them or recommend classes for them or is that part of your role as the
- 31:41gym manager? Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, So we
- 31:45have other fitness instructors. I'm not like the only one obviously in the gym,
- 31:48don't single handly run it, but yeah, the other fitness instructors in
- 31:52the gym. So that is what our role is, to design programs for
- 31:56people. We do gym inductions and then reviews obviously with clients as well.
- 32:01So if it's nice to sort of like stay with a client, you do
- 32:06an induction with them, so showing them around the whole gym, showing them
- 32:08how the equipment works so that they can work it safely and efficiently on their
- 32:13own. And then after that next step if they want it, is to
- 32:15then have a program, have their stats done if they want it. So
- 32:22that's like telling them exactly what they're made up of instead of just standing on
- 32:25the state on the scales and saying this is how much you weigh, this
- 32:30is how much of you is muscle and water and fat and stuff like that
- 32:34and everything. So it breaks it all down. So we can do that
- 32:36for people and then help them along with their fitness journey, their goals,
- 32:42whatever it is that they're trying to achieve, or if they're training for something.
- 32:45Again, we can help with that. Well, that is brilliant.
- 32:47I hope everyone out there is listening to this because that takes the mystery away.
- 32:52If you've never been to a gym before and you think, oh,
- 32:53do you know what I need to do some exercises, just go and have
- 32:58a word with Danielle and she will you're in the right direction. There's no
- 33:00need to be worried about or one of my staff or one of your Yeah
- 33:04yeah, yeah, excellent. So that's brilliant. Okay, so we'll come
- 33:07back to you in a minute, Danielle. So switching back to you,
- 33:09Kelly. So somebody turns up and wants to do zoomba class, So what
- 33:15advice would you give them. I would just say go at your own pace,
- 33:22and I always give alternative options for people. So if people don't want
- 33:27to be jumping around, or they can't jump around, they've got an injury,
- 33:30or they just want to do low impact options, I will give those
- 33:34all the way through. So it's a very adaptable class. Zomba for all
- 33:39ages, all abilities, and it's just like a party. Atmosphere puts a
- 33:45smile on people's faces. And as I say, age doesn't come into it.
- 33:51I have a lady in her nineties that attends some classes. Absolutely,
- 33:57and you said you couldn't zomber, but you were moving around the studios me
- 34:00in a way. So there we go, give my secrets away. I
- 34:06mean there's anything else that The benefits are pretty obvious, but is there anything
- 34:09you want to promote? You know, then now's your chance. If someone's
- 34:15thinking of sitting on the fence there thinking about coming to your zomber class,
- 34:19tell us why they should I think. I mean, I teach on her
- 34:22Tuesday evening at Folks and Sports Center Zumba, and the people in the class
- 34:27are the best people I've ever come across. To be honest with you,
- 34:30it's a lot. I have a few testimonials from regular people that come along,
- 34:35and one lady says she feels so empowered being surrounded by men and women
- 34:43all just having a good time, dancing, smiling. They feel like they're
- 34:46in a girl band. Sometimes they can lose their inhibitions for an hour.
- 34:51And also, I think if you're going through struggles in your home or personal
- 34:55life, it's escapism going to at any class and Zomba, I think you
- 35:01can go in there, leave your inhibitions at home somewhere, and just be
- 35:06free for an hour, just dance, feel the music. And it is
- 35:10Latin based, but you know, I adapt to my classes. So there's
- 35:15some good old sing along songs, a bit of Proud Mary in there,
- 35:17which people absolutely love, so it's relatable. But yeah, people feel very
- 35:22empowered, and I think it is for anyone. So if you haven't done
- 35:27zumber before, come and give it a go. Do what you can,
- 35:30and it gets easier week by week, and it's just fun. It's just
- 35:35fun. Oh great, That's what I love about people like yourselves coming in.
- 35:39You've got such a passion for what you do. We could every guest
- 35:44that comes in, I sation, we could be here all dayking about this
- 35:46sort of thing. So it's nice and the point is of the show is
- 35:51to promote to the people who focused and if for someone driving around in their
- 35:53car now and they just just randomly switched on, you know, we want
- 35:57you to listen to this and just remember that there is something out there for
- 36:02you. You don't have to be a fitness freak. You can just go
- 36:07along and let yourself go. And as you say, Kelly, you can
- 36:09switch off from everything outside the world and just be in your own little spaces
- 36:15for an hour. That's true. I think mental health and physical health go
- 36:19hand in hand with classes and especially with zoomber because it just it does make
- 36:22you feel good about yourself. So right then, Danielle, we are running
- 36:28out of time, I'm afraid, and I've got some more sport to squeeze
- 36:30in, but I might have to leave it next week, So Kelly,
- 36:34sorry, Danielle, tell us about how people can get in touch and get
- 36:38hold of you or the sports center and what is out there for them.
- 36:43So we have our Facebook page, we have our website, or people can
- 36:47just phone up, or they can just pop in. Yeah, that's probably
- 36:52the best thing. Yeah, pop in and have a look around. That's
- 36:54the best way for to see what everything we've gotten off of because there's so
- 36:59much going on there. Take the mystery away. I mean, the sports
- 37:00Center is just like part of our upbringing. I remember taking my kids to
- 37:06the sports Center. He's over fifty years old now, isn't it. God?
- 37:08Yeah, yeah, we had our fiftieth anniversary. Was it last year?
- 37:13Yeah? I remember. I remember having this conversation with Tessa and yeah,
- 37:17it's just been there forever. But it's grown and grown and grown,
- 37:21isn't it. It was part of part of my childhood. I remember that
- 37:23was my weekend thing, me and my best mate. We'd go swim in.
- 37:28Yes, yeah that was, and then chips in the cafe after that's
- 37:35you shouldn't say that, Chips on hips, Danielle, anything else you want
- 37:42to say before we just hand ever quick word with killing. Just come and
- 37:45see us, Come and see us, Come and have a look to see
- 37:46what we've got on offer. Have a look around. There's so much to
- 37:50see. There's so much going on, so much different things that we've got
- 37:52something for everyone. Too many people still don't even know about us. It's
- 37:58so shocking when you've seen there. So yeah, people come in and they
- 38:00go, I don't even didn't even know you were here where you been?
- 38:04Yeah, right, Kelly. The last word of you now, so Zomba.
- 38:09When when are you at the sports Center? So I'm at the Sports
- 38:13Center every Tuesday evening six pm till seven. But there's also three other zomber
- 38:21classes running throughout the week, so you have a Monday evening, a Wednesday
- 38:24evening and also a Sunday morning for people that don't want to do the inner
- 38:29evening classes and would rather do the weekends. So there's quite a few zomber
- 38:32classes to choose from. Yeah, you've got a good spread of times there
- 38:36to try and suit everybody absolutely, any last word from you, get out
- 38:38there and again just come, just come along, lose your inhibitions. Don't
- 38:44worry if you think you've got two left feet, you may surprise yourself.
- 38:46Just come and have some fun. Danielle Kelly, thank you so much for
- 38:51coming in. It's been wonderful talking to you, and I really hope that
- 38:52the membership of the gym and zomber just goes through the roof. Okay,
- 38:57so about time for a bit of the Jackson Jackson five there and I love
- 39:13you save Okay, we're gonna squeeze this one in a bit now, it's
- 39:15a bit back to football, but it's about deal Town right now. We
- 39:22recently spoke about Maystone's journey to Wembley, but there is actually one other Kent
- 39:27club who are on a journey to Wembley, and that's deal Town. On
- 39:30Saturday, they make the long trip to play Lincoln United in the quarter final
- 39:34of the FA Vurs. Now, most clubs would say that this is the
- 39:37greatest game in the club's history, but Dealtown have gone one further and lifted
- 39:40the FA VARs Trophy back in the year two thousand and I was there.
- 39:45Did I tell you that before? Probably probably loads of times, But looking
- 39:50back now, I'm really pleased that I went along that day. Both clubs
- 39:53are on a rich vein of form. Last time I checked out, deal
- 39:58Town were third in their league and lincol can you United for second? So
- 40:00it's going to be a really tough game, perhaps the home advantage swinging the
- 40:05tides towards Lincoln's way, but let's hope not. The players travel up at
- 40:08two pm on Friday and stay overnight, whilst the supporters leave at eight thirty
- 40:13on Saturday morning and chain to deal Town chair and Natalie Benville. She tells
- 40:17me they have around two hundred and fifty traveling fans who will make the four
- 40:22hundred and forty mile round trip and probably won't be home till about ten o'clock.
- 40:25So good luck to deal Town and let's hope they make it to the
- 40:30Semis. From nineteen eighty five, there Rasbury Beret from Prince. Now,
- 40:47I've squeezed most of all the sports reports I wanted to do in this last
- 40:52two hours. So what I'm going to do. It's my favorite little spot
- 40:54on the show. I'm going to tell you about Heartbeat again. Well I've
- 41:00been Heartbeat binging and I've come up with two storylines that fit the music.
- 41:04The first one is about Lord Ashley's I think it was his nephew. He's
- 41:07about twenty years old, he's rich, spoilt, drives a rolls Royce,
- 41:12drinks and drives, and for that he was arrested by a Constable Nick Rowan.
- 41:15He seemed to be anti everything. And whilst all this was going on,
- 41:20you could hear this one song playing and it just so fitted the situation.
- 41:36Generation my generation there from the Who in nineteen sixty five, Oh by
- 41:40Die before a Get old well, I think he's still with us. Actually,
- 41:45rot A Daltrey still rocking a ray. Okay. Now. The other
- 41:47situation in Heartbeat was there was an elderly gentleman who came to Aidensfield. He
- 41:52was ill, he only had about six months to live, but he was
- 41:55on a mission. He kidnapped Rowan Rowan Nick Rohan's wife Kate at gunpoint,
- 42:01and was going to shoot her because he blamed Nick for the death of his
- 42:05daughter after she committed suicide. Nick was the arresting officer after his daughter had
- 42:09murdered her husband, who was a bully and a wife beater. She got
- 42:13ten years. Not long after this, the gentleman's wife she died as well,
- 42:17and once again he blamed Nick. So instead of going for Nick,
- 42:20he decided that he should live and he should feel the pain of a dead
- 42:23loved one. However, the gentleman broke down in the end and he just
- 42:28couldn't stand it anymore. He gave the gun up and knowing his journey was
- 42:32over. Then as they were playing it, this song was playing in the
- 42:37background, So poignant and such a lovely song, The Holies He Ain't Heavy,
- 42:43He's My Brother nineteen sixty nine. There time many classic tracks being played
- 43:00here today. It's such a good wedge of music, you know. And
- 43:06we had two lovely guests in weren't they so good. I'm so enthusiastic about
- 43:09what they do down at the Sports Center instructing Zumbring managing. So if you're
- 43:17any day and you want to join a class, then please just go along
- 43:22to the Folks and Sports Center. Well, it's nearly the end of the
- 43:23show and I'd just like to say that I will be on the mic at
- 43:28the LID Half Marathon. It's also a twenty miler. It's the one that
- 43:32is really good for runners. I know it sounds horrible running twenty miles,
- 43:37but if you're training for a spring marathon, this is just what you need.
- 43:40It's a really flat course, but you don't know what the weather's going
- 43:44to be like. It's a bit bleaked down there, but once you've got
- 43:46it under your belt and out of the way, then you won't regret it.
- 43:51So that's down there's the nice work LID half and twenty mile at Sunday
- 43:55morning. Plenty of races around at the moment, so if you're trying,
- 44:00then this is one for you. Now, this is something I don't often
- 44:04do. It's not about sport or anything, it's not about music. But
- 44:07it's a tribute actually to a gentleman, a hairy biker. Now I'm not
- 44:13Harry, I'm not a biker. But when the news broke of the passing
- 44:15of Dave Meyers, you couldn't help be saddened as he lost his fight against
- 44:21cancer. When the Harry Bikers first hit the screen back in two thousand and
- 44:24four, just can't believe that it's twenty years ago. They put a different
- 44:29slant on cooking. I mean, how could Dave Meyers and psy King And
- 44:32they did look overweight, didn't they At the time they loved traveling around on
- 44:37their massive motorbikes clad in leather. How could they know anything about cooking?
- 44:42But the nation immediately took to them their style and they went on to produce
- 44:45countless cooking shows, not just in Britain but in some exotic locations abroad.
- 44:52And they also did what can I say, This is me saying they're looking
- 44:55big fellas They knew that, and they did sort of cooking for sl and
- 45:00I think between them they lost six stone. Now, Dave Meyers said He
- 45:02wanted his mourners to loosen up with vodka mar Our teeny cocktails before they went
- 45:07into the church at the funeral, and for the week a feast of meat
- 45:12and potato pie with chips would be on the menu. He wanted his coffins
- 45:15to be carried out to the song recorded by the Scorpions, The Best Is
- 45:20Yet to Come, saying that they would a great rock anthem. It would
- 45:22be to cheer everybody up. Dave Myers, You're going to be one tough
- 45:27actor follow now. Unfortunately I couldn't track down The Best Is Yet to Come,
- 45:31but I'd like to play this one as a tribute by the Scorpions.
- 45:35It's called the Window Change. So rip Dave Meyers, one hairy biker,
- 45:40See you next week.
