- 0:21Speaker 1: that time of week where we have a guest join us.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Check him out at the Ranga. Check him out at
- 0:25Speaker 3: the Athletic.
- 0:25Speaker 1: That boy get all the money from all the places
- 0:28Speaker 1: Jason Goff was going on.
- 0:29Speaker 2: What's happening, brother? Good to see you. Good to talk
- 0:32Speaker 2: to you. Always checking out all your stuff, man. It's
- 0:35Speaker 2: been a nice lead into non-football. I've been enjoying the
- 0:41Speaker 2: rap series. How O'Brien is always amazing. I'm a big
- 0:45Speaker 2: consumer of the content, brother.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I appreciate that, man, because it's, look, you know.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's bad form to like complain to the audience about
- 0:52Speaker 1: how hard your job is. And it's not that the
- 0:55Speaker 1: job is going to be hard for these next few months.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It's just not going to be as easy as it
- 0:59Speaker 1: used to be.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Like, this is when we separate that butter soft shit
- 1:05Speaker 1: from the leather on the Fonz, right?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It's that time of year.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And you know it's that time of year because this
- 1:13Speaker 1: is how we're going to start this.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you to pick.
- 1:16Speaker 1: A number between 1 and 10, and the number you
- 1:20Speaker 1: choose determines which old people we're going to talk about.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Let's go 7.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Seven. Seven is an odd number.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And I had decided that for odd numbers, we was
- 1:32Speaker 1: going to discuss what happened in that game with the
- 1:35Speaker 1: Lakers and the Magic on Tuesday night where, I mean, look,
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Lakers are an interesting situation because they are not
- 1:43Speaker 1: as good as their record, right? Like, you don't have
- 1:45Speaker 1: to watch them much to recognize that. You can look
- 1:48Speaker 1: at the points scored versus points allowed that they have,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and you can recognize this, right? The other thing that
- 1:54Speaker 1: is interesting about them, and this is something I've said
- 1:57Speaker 1: about him, I said this is also going to be
- 1:59Speaker 1: the case with Carl Anthony Towns, though I thought, look,
- 2:02Speaker 1: this year is going to be as close as Luka
- 2:04Speaker 1: Doncic's MVP was ever going to be, right? Like, we
- 2:06Speaker 1: know how it goes. They ran your name down in
- 2:08Speaker 1: the streets. They said you was lazy. They said you
- 2:11Speaker 1: was fat.
- 2:11Speaker 3: All of that, right? He came back. He's not fat,
- 2:14Speaker 3: but he do be whining.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And that was that when Brian Wentworth did the thing about, yo,
- 2:19Speaker 1: down there, that's where the winners are.
- 2:21Speaker 3: That's not where you at, right?
- 2:24Speaker 1: He comports himself like a loser during basketball games.
- 2:27Speaker 3: He does all the whining and whining.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I don't think that that many people paid that much
- 2:32Speaker 1: attention to Dallas Mavericks basketball. As a result, they didn't
- 2:36Speaker 1: give that much attention to his behavior. There was just
- 2:39Speaker 1: kind of a recognition of it because, you know, they'd
- 2:41Speaker 1: be trying.
- 2:41Speaker 3: To let him slide for everything.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And when I say they, I mean italics, they. So
- 2:48Speaker 1: now he's with the Lakers. People are looking a little
- 2:52Speaker 1: bit more. That fact that you don't play defense, especially since,
- 2:56Speaker 1: They got another one of you and he from this
- 2:59Speaker 1: country and he don't play no defense either.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Right?
- 3:03Speaker 1: Your three best players don't play defense and you be
- 3:07Speaker 1: whining all the time. And then at the end of
- 3:10Speaker 1: this game, he hit LeBron with what they called in
- 3:12Speaker 1: the NBA, a grenade.
- 3:14Speaker 3: You heard that before about the grenade?
- 3:16Speaker 1: And so what the grenade is, is when it's thought
- 3:20Speaker 1: of when it's late in the shot clock. And this
- 3:22Speaker 1: is such an NBA thing. When LeBron, It's late in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the shot clock. You just been dribbling, dribbling, dribbling. And
- 3:26Speaker 1: then you throw that hot potato to somebody and now
- 3:29Speaker 1: they got to throw it up. And the reason that
- 3:30Speaker 1: it's a problem for that person is not because it's
- 3:34Speaker 1: late in the shot clock. It's because you go mess
- 3:36Speaker 1: up their field goal percentage and that shit costs money.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 3:39Speaker 3: Like, that's.
- 3:42Speaker 4: A very NBA phenomenon, which is the grenade. But he
- 3:46Speaker 4: threw the grenade to LeBron at the end of the game. Like,
- 3:50Speaker 4: you had a shot. You didn't take the shot.
- 3:53Speaker 3: LeBron had to shoot a turnaround three-pointer.
- 3:57Speaker 2: What are you doing? So it's not only the field
- 4:01Speaker 2: goal percentage stuff, but like you mentioned, the moment it
- 4:04Speaker 2: made me immediately think of my man, Sam Mitchell, who
- 4:08Speaker 2: so many times is sitting and talking basketball on the
- 4:11Speaker 2: air and off the air. When I was in Atlanta,
- 4:13Speaker 2: Sam would talk about this and then we get off
- 4:15Speaker 2: the air. And he mentioned one time about Reggie Miller.
- 4:18Speaker 2: He goes, go back and look at some of those
- 4:20Speaker 2: games with me and Reggie. For three quarters, you ain't
- 4:23Speaker 2: passed me this bitch the entire game. And now, all
- 4:25Speaker 2: of a sudden, we're four seconds left on the shot clock.
- 4:28Speaker 2: The best player want to move the ball?
- 4:29Speaker 1: Nope.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Take that bitch right back. Right? And in that moment,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I think Luka knew, too. Like, Luka knows the history
- 4:37Speaker 2: of the game. Luka has said LeBron James is one
- 4:41Speaker 2: of his favorite, if not the most favorite player that
- 4:43Speaker 2: he has ever witnessed play basketball in his life. So
- 4:46Speaker 2: that's his guy. He know that LeBron needs some of
- 4:50Speaker 2: these game winners too. I ain't got the shot. And
- 4:53Speaker 2: the bad part is he had to step back and
- 4:54Speaker 2: had the separation to put the shot up. He had it, right?
- 4:58Speaker 2: So when you throw that thing with LeBron, and it's like,
- 5:00Speaker 2: all right, here's a moment where I know I'm not
- 5:02Speaker 2: going to get it back because, you know, LeBron wants
- 5:04Speaker 2: some glory at all times, too. But the angle of
- 5:07Speaker 2: the shot, the moment his feet wasn't gathered. LeBron spent
- 5:10Speaker 2: all game in the corner. All of a sudden, you
- 5:12Speaker 2: want me on the wing shooting this three? Nah, man.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And like you mentioned, it's a team with no thumbs, dog.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And that record is... Do with it what you want.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But when it comes down to when you got to
- 5:25Speaker 2: hit good pitching in the playoffs, like ones and twos.
- 5:29Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 5:31Speaker 3: They don't lose to the number four starter. You know
- 5:34Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 5:34Speaker 1: Like you can get to the playoffs in baseball by
- 5:38Speaker 1: battering fourth and fifth starters.
- 5:40Speaker 3: But playoffs only got ones, twos.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And you're going to get there. You're going to get
- 5:45Speaker 2: there and some young boy is going, hey, for the
- 5:47Speaker 2: next 11 days, I got you. And I got a
- 5:51Speaker 2: name to make.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Man, playing for that team is so wild because.
- 5:56Speaker 1: The LeBron situation as it relates to, I mean, I
- 5:59Speaker 1: think we all understand this is his last year with
- 6:01Speaker 1: the Lakers. There's no scenario under which he can come back.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I don't see a financial scenario under which this can happen.
- 6:09Speaker 1: There's the unavoidable point that when he and Luka are
- 6:12Speaker 1: on the floor together as a team, they are terrible.
- 6:16Speaker 1: It just doesn't work. I don't say that as an
- 6:18Speaker 1: indictment of either player. That just works out like that sometimes.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Those two guys can't play together. but they got to
- 6:25Speaker 1: work out this whole year. If LeBron James was anybody else,
- 6:29Speaker 1: they would have traded him by now.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think we talked about this on the show before
- 6:32Speaker 1: anybody else. You're just like, Hey man, this one here
- 6:34Speaker 1: ain't really a good fit. Let's just see what else
- 6:36Speaker 1: we could get. I honestly don't know why any other team,
- 6:40Speaker 1: this is kind of like when Barry Bonds got old,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like you still really good, man.
- 6:44Speaker 3: But now I don't think that's best for us.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Did you say word to squeeze?
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 1: For a number of reasons, but I hit LeBron after
- 6:54Speaker 1: the game, but then LeBron's like, Hey.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Man, I thought he had shot.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Uh, but I guess he was off balance. I know
- 6:59Speaker 1: I was off balance.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And LeBron is in this stage where, let's face it,
- 7:04Speaker 2: there have been moments where we said, does he want
- 7:06Speaker 2: to be the guy? And he's been the guy. Don't
- 7:08Speaker 2: get it twisted. Like, he has carried franchises on his back.
- 7:11Speaker 3: It's been a long time.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's been a long, long time. But it's also been
- 7:15Speaker 2: a long time since he could honestly be like, I'm
- 7:18Speaker 2: not the best player on the team, even in his head. Like,
- 7:20Speaker 2: the Anthony Davis bubble run, like, Anthony was out there
- 7:23Speaker 2: doing things where it's like, this is why you're the
- 7:24Speaker 2: number one pick. This is what everyone saw in you.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And there was still some, hey, LeBron's still cold. Now,
- 7:30Speaker 2: it's like, You the dude. They traded for you. They
- 7:34Speaker 2: don't want to go get Mark Williams for me. All
- 7:36Speaker 2: these other things. And on top of it, I can
- 7:38Speaker 2: kind of, you know, slink on out of here. I
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't know, man. You said it a lot about staying
- 7:46Speaker 2: too long at the club. And I wasn't around to see,
- 7:49Speaker 2: you know, OJ as a 49er or Willie Mays.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Frank O'Harris with the Seahawks.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: we saw Jerry at the end there with the Raiders
- 8:00Speaker 2: and that kind of vibe, right? But when you see
- 8:04Speaker 2: players who are... you don't remember them as anything but
- 8:08Speaker 2: great kind of go out like this. Like as you,
- 8:12Speaker 2: do you want to see LeBron running around Milwaukee? Right.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Like the sentimentality. Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 3: He should play as long as he wants to play.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Like, that's like, it's not, it's not for me to
- 8:23Speaker 1: say he should, he should play as long as it
- 8:27Speaker 1: is that he wants to play. But what I will
- 8:30Speaker 1: always remember about Jerry Rice with the Raiders is And
- 8:34Speaker 1: that wasn't his last stop.
- 8:36Speaker 3: He had two more stops.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Seattle and Denver, right?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Seattle and Denver, right?
- 8:40Speaker 1: But what I will always remember, it is not that
- 8:44Speaker 1: Jerry Rice played for the Raiders. It is not that
- 8:47Speaker 1: Jerry Rice had a season with 90-something catches and 1,000-something
- 8:51Speaker 1: yards with the Raiders.
- 8:53Speaker 3: You know what I'm going to say I'll always remember?
- 8:54Speaker 1: That man had braids when he did not have hair.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Nobody has ever been more dedicated to holding on to
- 9:03Speaker 1: their youth than Jerry Rice was at the end. Because
- 9:06Speaker 1: there had to be extensions in that shit, too.
- 9:09Speaker 3: He had straight back.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He had a Clarkson?
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 9:11Speaker 1: My whole boy, Kirk. My boy, Kirk, referred to that
- 9:15Speaker 1: as the black man's comb over. He was absolutely correct. Like,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you don't have the hair to keep this up, but
- 9:20Speaker 1: you just going to keep on trying. Jerry had to
- 9:22Speaker 1: twist for a little while. And let's not forget, man.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Jerry from somewhere in Mississippi. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 9:30Speaker 1: like this ain't, it was in San Francisco. Like he
- 9:32Speaker 1: wasn't like he was down there in Miami with them
- 9:34Speaker 1: boys and nothing like that.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Jerry Rice was holding on to youth harder than anybody
- 9:39Speaker 3: ever had.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And I feel like that, like, I don't feel like
- 9:42Speaker 1: LeBron is doing that exactly, but it does feel a
- 9:45Speaker 1: whole lot like after all this time and all these ventures,
- 9:48Speaker 1: the man built a school, The man started a production company.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He still don't know what the hell to do with himself,
- 9:54Speaker 1: so he's just going to keep on playing basketball.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And the only thing that he has left and the
- 10:00Speaker 2: thing that we haven't seen because of just the physical
- 10:05Speaker 2: marvel that he's been is the injury. Like the, uh-oh,
- 10:09Speaker 2: this is going to be a year or a half
- 10:11Speaker 2: a year or the end of your career injury. And
- 10:15Speaker 2: all you're doing is running up against that as much
- 10:17Speaker 2: as you possibly can, missing the games to start the
- 10:20Speaker 2: beginning of this season. I wonder if his career... like,
- 10:25Speaker 2: how do you think 20 years from now he will
- 10:28Speaker 2: be talked about, right? Like, we've seen what's happened with Iverson.
- 10:33Speaker 2: We've seen, you know, obviously posthumously with Kobe and what's
- 10:36Speaker 2: happened with Mike, right? And how careers kind of bloom
- 10:40Speaker 2: or how they kind of shrivel because how people feel
- 10:43Speaker 2: about you and they can actually get that shit off
- 10:45Speaker 2: when you're not in the league anymore. How do you
- 10:47Speaker 2: think this is going to go? Because... I.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Think he's still going to be the guy for the
- 10:52Speaker 1: post-Jordan generation, right? Like, I think that Eventually, who knows
- 10:56Speaker 1: what media is going to be, but the kids who
- 10:58Speaker 1: grew up as LeBron James stands eventually become the people
- 11:01Speaker 1: who write and talk about basketball. And then they canonize
- 11:05Speaker 1: the heroes of their youth in large part. I think
- 11:08Speaker 1: the part that's going to be interesting about what it
- 11:10Speaker 1: is for him after this point in his career is
- 11:13Speaker 1: I think the idea and the plan for him was
- 11:16Speaker 1: that he was going to retire a Laker.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Like that was going, he was going to like, Will
- 11:22Speaker 1: Chamberlain is a Philly guy.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It was a Philadelphia warrior.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It was a Philadelphia 76er, but he retired a Laker,
- 11:28Speaker 1: you know, like he stayed in LA. He became a
- 11:31Speaker 1: part of LA. I would assume that the Lakers probably
- 11:36Speaker 1: would build a statue of LeBron just because he's the
- 11:40Speaker 1: all-time leading scorer. He will have played there for all
- 11:42Speaker 1: that time, but they don't owe him one, right? Like
- 11:45Speaker 1: this isn't Kareem. This isn't Pat Riley. This tenure is has,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I would argue, fallen short of expectation. So what I
- 11:51Speaker 1: think he's going to really lean in on is he
- 11:54Speaker 1: is going to be a Cleveland Cavalier, right?
- 11:57Speaker 2: That's going to be.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think Cleveland's going to be for him like what
- 12:01Speaker 1: San Francisco was for Barry Bonds, which is you always
- 12:03Speaker 1: got a home. You always got the place to go.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And I think he's going to live in LA, right?
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think he still wants to be part of that infrastructure.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But Cleveland is going to be the place.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I mean, 70... You think it's a coincidence that the 75th.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Uh, anniversary all-star game with the 75 players, including with
- 12:23Speaker 1: LeBron James. And it might say it might have been
- 12:26Speaker 1: a coincidence just to be clear.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It's a perfect one.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Felt pretty tidy.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. Yeah. And even when you say that the
- 12:35Speaker 2: people who are the LeBron stans who grew up are
- 12:38Speaker 2: now the ones getting ready to write about his career or,
- 12:41Speaker 2: you know, tell stories about his career. There's a major
- 12:44Speaker 2: like I still to this day think the basketball gods
- 12:47Speaker 2: robbed us of having that dude in the Eastern Conference
- 12:50Speaker 2: and Kobe in the Western Conference for all that time.
- 12:52Speaker 2: and not colliding. But with Kobe's passing and also the
- 12:58Speaker 2: legend of Kobe at the end of his career that
- 13:00Speaker 2: bloomed even more, there's a lot of dudes, LeBron's contemporaries
- 13:04Speaker 2: and younger, who have that Kobe dent in there where
- 13:08Speaker 2: it's going to be like, yeah, we're going to talk. Yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 2: you might think you're the best post-Jordan, but because in-depth,
- 13:14Speaker 2: it's got that like Biggie Pock feel. Well, Biggie, especially
- 13:18Speaker 2: to me, where it's like in-depth, Kobe has been put
- 13:21Speaker 2: in these conversations where we're talking about top fives that
- 13:25Speaker 2: I was like, hey, man, you know, Kobe was amazing.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And Kobe threatened to put 81 on me in the
- 13:31Speaker 2: locker room once because I asked him about his finger
- 13:34Speaker 2: and people going at it. So it's like he was
- 13:36Speaker 2: that dude. But in death and also with the dislike
- 13:40Speaker 2: of LeBron James and social media being what it is,
- 13:42Speaker 2: there's been that he's never had that gliding moment of,
- 13:48Speaker 2: everybody understands and is on the same page that some
- 13:51Speaker 2: of these other stars had, whether it be with Steph,
- 13:53Speaker 2: whether it be the Derrick Rose couple of years.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Well, Kobe had to come back around to it though, right?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Like Kobe, Kobe had lost to people and then, and obviously,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and then death turn, that's a longer discussion for a
- 14:05Speaker 1: different day. But, you know, but Kobe had to, had
- 14:09Speaker 1: to in its, in his way, come back into it.
- 14:11Speaker 1: The other part that'll be interesting for LeBron is, Michael
- 14:13Speaker 1: Jordan is still a relatively young man. So he gets
- 14:16Speaker 1: like the Joe DiMaggio greatest football player treatment.
- 14:20Speaker 2: It's still winning shit, by the way. He still is.
- 14:22Speaker 2: He's bumping into wins. Like, yeah, okay, Daytona, I'll do this.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Hey, look, man, Mike is like, I need to, everything,
- 14:29Speaker 1: he is addicted to competition. He's like, I do not
- 14:31Speaker 1: have a gambling problem. I have a competition problem.
- 14:35Speaker 2: That is correct, right?
- 14:36Speaker 1: That sounds like an excuse, but that is, I just
- 14:40Speaker 1: can't imagine just what it's like being around Michael Jordan
- 14:42Speaker 1: all the time, trying to bet on everything.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Hey, listen, I've had people who have hosted him in
- 14:50Speaker 2: card games where it's like, oh, no, no, the card
- 14:53Speaker 2: game ain't over until Michael say everybody is tired because
- 14:58Speaker 2: Michael going to try to beat you out your money.
- 15:01Speaker 2: win whatever money he lost, and try to embarrass him.
- 15:04Speaker 2: So that's going to be a good eight, 10 hours.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Buckle up. Buckle up. The competition thing, too. The frame
- 15:13Speaker 2: and the lens of all these things post-Jordan, and I
- 15:16Speaker 2: think about it quite often. You mentioned the rings culture
- 15:20Speaker 2: in talking about enjoying the NBA. The post-Kobe, post-Jordan, that's
- 15:27Speaker 2: the archetype for the kind of killer that you want
- 15:30Speaker 2: on a team has taken away some of the enjoyment
- 15:35Speaker 2: that I think even LeBron would have. Think of LeBron if...
- 15:39Speaker 2: Mike loses one of those finals or if Kobe doesn't
- 15:43Speaker 2: have the run that he had while LeBron was in
- 15:46Speaker 2: the league. Yeah, at the end, too, especially. Like, we
- 15:50Speaker 2: talk favorably about really cool careers in a way that
- 15:54Speaker 2: we just don't do anymore. You mentioned Luka and how people...
- 15:58Speaker 2: have kind of got adjusted to his game and kind
- 16:01Speaker 2: of had to reshape it because he's that dude, James Harden.
- 16:04Speaker 2: If James Harden was doing this in the 80s, we
- 16:06Speaker 2: refer to him the way we do with, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 2: the Alex Inglesons and the Adrian Dantleys of the world
- 16:11Speaker 2: and cats who were like, they didn't win, but I'll
- 16:13Speaker 2: be damned if they didn't entertain the shit out of him.
- 16:16Speaker 2: For 15, even the bad teams. Like, I remember watching
- 16:19Speaker 2: Dallas like, hey, I know this team ain't going to
- 16:21Speaker 2: win nothing, but Rolando Blackman is going to put 30
- 16:23Speaker 2: on your ass at some point, you know, in this week. Like,
- 16:26Speaker 2: those enjoyment levels, you know, post those two guys. I'm
- 16:30Speaker 2: not saying, you know, blaming those two guys, but post
- 16:32Speaker 2: those two dudes. And inside of this career, it's been
- 16:35Speaker 2: a crazy, like, way to map out this Venn diagram
- 16:38Speaker 2: of who really, like, how much do you like basketball?
- 16:41Speaker 2: How much do you like lore? And also, where do
- 16:43Speaker 2: you want to find your entertainment at?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Well, it's going to be also, and I think that's
- 16:47Speaker 1: a great point, and it's going to be very interesting
- 16:49Speaker 1: to watch how that plays out as the years go,
- 16:51Speaker 1: because I think we are in an era now that
- 16:53Speaker 1: is most reminiscent of the 1970s, which is the dynasty-free
- 16:57Speaker 1: era of basketball. Like, we're not going to see, I
- 16:59Speaker 1: don't think we're going to see guys winning four, five championships.
- 17:02Speaker 1: They've done everything they can to make it such that
- 17:05Speaker 1: it would not work that way.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Like, it's entirely possible.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Are you cool with that?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Do you like that?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Do you need somebody to.
- 17:13Speaker 3: No, I like the dynasty soccer. I prefer the dynasty saga.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I also think, though, in terms of the ways that
- 17:20Speaker 1: we evaluate players and think about who's who and what's what,
- 17:24Speaker 1: we're going to need to recalibrate that. Like the likelihood
- 17:27Speaker 1: that there's anybody else that gets four rings, five rings,
- 17:30Speaker 1: six rings. Forget about like we've acknowledged nobody's going to
- 17:33Speaker 1: get 11 like Russell because it's just a different game.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:36Speaker 1: The Sam Jones eight. Like we just know it's not
- 17:38Speaker 1: going to be like that again.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:40Speaker 3: And so we don't.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Very few of us say Michael Jordan will never be
- 17:43Speaker 1: as good as Bill Russell because Bill Russell has 11 rings, right? Look,
- 17:46Speaker 1: you can take it further. Bill Russell never lost a
- 17:48Speaker 1: game seven. That is an insane stat. But we change
- 17:53Speaker 1: the ways that we evaluate these things. LeBron is probably
- 17:58Speaker 1: going to go down as the last superstar of the
- 18:02Speaker 1: era where you could rack up four rings. But I
- 18:06Speaker 1: guess Steph Curry is right there with him. But after
- 18:10Speaker 1: those two guys.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and all the people, see, that's why this
- 18:16Speaker 2: Oklahoma City thing is so interesting and San Antonio being
- 18:21Speaker 2: where they're at because the league has pretty much told
- 18:24Speaker 2: you draft and develop, but by the way, you're not
- 18:26Speaker 2: going to be able to pay everybody that you draft
- 18:28Speaker 2: and develop. And now, you know, you're going to be
- 18:31Speaker 2: looking at it, all right, so is Dylan Harper more
- 18:33Speaker 2: valuable than Devin Bissell or is De'Aaron Fox too long
- 18:37Speaker 2: in the tooth? And we're talking about a window that's
- 18:39Speaker 2: just opening here for that san antonio squad i've always
- 18:43Speaker 2: appreciated premium product and having something that that is the
- 18:46Speaker 2: mark of excellence and everybody's shooting for that you know
- 18:50Speaker 2: and the nba that we kind of grew up in
- 18:52Speaker 2: where you know the 90s bulls the 80s celtics and
- 18:55Speaker 2: lakers the late 80s pistons where it's like all right
- 18:58Speaker 2: you know put your model together and this is when
- 19:01Speaker 2: we had different styles and the game wasn't so homogenized
- 19:04Speaker 2: in the way that we watch it strategy wise but
- 19:06Speaker 2: like put your, put your crew together and, and we're
- 19:09Speaker 2: going to figure out if they better than Sally and
- 19:12Speaker 2: Lambert and Mahorn and Rodman like that.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And you're going to see them year after year after year.
- 19:18Speaker 1: They go, we're going to make some, we're going to
- 19:19Speaker 1: make some tweaks. It's going to be some changes, but.
- 19:22Speaker 2: It's going to be the same. Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Right. But it's going to be the same. Like, like, like,
- 19:27Speaker 1: like don't, don't get it to us. You're going to
- 19:29Speaker 1: know who it is. Like, that's why it's been a
- 19:31Speaker 1: great time watching this Pistons Knicks situation.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Right.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Um, Real beef.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Thunder Spurs. All right, because look, here's the thing
- 19:40Speaker 1: about this era. And this is where this Victor thing
- 19:42Speaker 1: is going to get crazy. I don't know how much
- 19:44Speaker 1: it's going to matter who these other people are that
- 19:46Speaker 1: you put around Victor.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Like, he the one that got a chance. He's the
- 19:49Speaker 3: one that has it.
- 19:50Speaker 1: The chance to be the one guy that can hold
- 19:53Speaker 1: this all the way down.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I have been, uh, I've been so intrigued with people
- 20:01Speaker 2: not being as awestruck as, as I am. Like I,
- 20:08Speaker 2: You know, the Shohei Ohtani thing that's happening in baseball, like,
- 20:13Speaker 2: for whatever reason, people have become, like, numb to the
- 20:16Speaker 2: shit that he is doing. I feel like on the
- 20:18Speaker 2: Wimby side, it's like, it's less people. And these the
- 20:22Speaker 2: tallest people in the world, and he is making them
- 20:24Speaker 2: look silly.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And he's hitting them with this right here.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Everything. Everything. Everything. Like, pull up threes. Like, there's no
- 20:34Speaker 2: part of his game where you're like, oh, yeah, a
- 20:37Speaker 2: 7'6 guy shouldn't be able to dribble. No, he doing that.
- 20:40Speaker 2: He doing that. He's taking off from the nail. The
- 20:43Speaker 2: nail is where the most important defender usually has to
- 20:46Speaker 2: be in the NBA. And he's like, guess what, guys?
- 20:49Speaker 2: My arm, if I just reach for the nail, I
- 20:52Speaker 2: got a finger roll. Like, we play around. Like, I
- 20:57Speaker 2: don't know what it was to watch Jim Brown on
- 20:59Speaker 2: a lacrosse field. You feel me? Like, I don't know
- 21:02Speaker 2: the first time Wayne Gretzky hit the ice as a
- 21:04Speaker 2: kid where people were like, nah, this shit shouldn't be happening.
- 21:07Speaker 2: That's how I feel when I watch Wimby, where I'm like,
- 21:10Speaker 2: if he having a bad night, it's only going to
- 21:12Speaker 2: dictate if you're going to have a good night.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Hey, John Henson went to Carolina, played with Milwaukee Bucks,
- 21:18Speaker 1: a few other cats.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I love that guy. I haven't talked to John in
- 21:20Speaker 3: a minute, but I love that guy.
- 21:21Speaker 1: He sent a tweet the other day where he said
- 21:22Speaker 1: he asked Harrison Barnes how Victor was looking at us
- 21:26Speaker 1: pick up runs during the summer.
- 21:28Speaker 3: This is Harrison Barnes' response.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I'm going to look up something right fast as I
- 21:33Speaker 1: prepare to give this to you. Harrison Barnes' response to
- 21:38Speaker 1: John Henson when he asked him how he looked at
- 21:40Speaker 1: the summer league runs was, I quote, like wilt. Harrison
- 21:45Speaker 1: Barnes is 33 years old. The reference he had.
- 21:52Speaker 2: To pull out was Wilt Chamberlain.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Let me explain something very important about Wilt. As ESPN
- 22:02Speaker 1: and Sports Talk Radio and everything has come into the
- 22:05Speaker 1: discussion about who are the best players, it's kind of
- 22:08Speaker 1: like we wound up with this world where everybody had
- 22:10Speaker 1: Biggie and Pac as their top two emcees, where there
- 22:12Speaker 1: was actually prior to this a much richer discussion of
- 22:15Speaker 1: who was there. And there are lots of criticisms to
- 22:17Speaker 1: be made of Will Chamberlain and his quote-unquote will to
- 22:20Speaker 1: win and all of that stuff, but it's a whole
- 22:22Speaker 1: lot of bit of that time that it's still like nobody.
- 22:26Speaker 3: was better than that dude.
- 22:29Speaker 2: There's no... The.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Idea that anybody gets compared to Wilt.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I watched that Wilt Dr.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Kevin Garnett produced on Showtime, and the closest I saw
- 22:41Speaker 1: to that was Giannis. But Wilt wasn't even doing this
- 22:45Speaker 1: stuff that this cat is out here doing.
- 22:48Speaker 2: No. The Wimbyama thing is, for me, if you... If
- 22:54Speaker 2: you want to tell me that he is not only
- 22:57Speaker 2: the best player in the league right now, but barring injury,
- 23:00Speaker 2: will be for the next 10 years. And on top
- 23:03Speaker 2: of it, we're talking about some of the greatest talent. Like,
- 23:07Speaker 2: say what you want about basketball IQ. Obviously, guys are
- 23:10Speaker 2: doing drill work. Not enough five-on-five is being played. You
- 23:13Speaker 2: see it out there all the time where guys just
- 23:15Speaker 2: don't know how to play with each other. But if
- 23:16Speaker 2: you want to tell me that that cat against the
- 23:19Speaker 2: dudes that he's running up against now with modified defenses
- 23:22Speaker 2: and all the nerds in the front office saying this
- 23:24Speaker 2: is where this person likes to shoot from, keep him
- 23:27Speaker 2: off of this, you can't keep him off of any spot.
- 23:30Speaker 2: On a night that he really want to find people,
- 23:32Speaker 2: he's going to get you six, seven assists if you
- 23:35Speaker 2: hit some shots. and then the gravity that he has. Like,
- 23:39Speaker 2: the reason why a lot of these injuries we see
- 23:41Speaker 2: happening around the NBA is because dudes start to pick
- 23:44Speaker 2: and roll damn near half court. I got a straight shot,
- 23:48Speaker 2: bullet speed, downhill at you. This dude is doing those things.
- 23:53Speaker 2: They have the gall to be running pick and roll
- 23:56Speaker 2: where he's the ball handler. Like, when I saw DeMar
- 24:03Speaker 2: Johnson in Cincinnati when he was 6'9, 6'10, shooting two guard,
- 24:06Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, this is what they making? And DeMar Johnson,
- 24:10Speaker 2: bad crash, had the neck incident, like, never really took
- 24:15Speaker 2: off the way that I thought his talent would block. But, man,
- 24:18Speaker 2: that's 6'10. Like, this dude be in jump ball situations.
- 24:21Speaker 3: He's seven inches taller than DeMar Johnson.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Dog!
- 24:25Speaker 5: Dog!
- 24:26Speaker 2: And got a weather jump shot. Like, when the whole.
- 24:31Speaker 2: When Shaq said the thing about Bo Bo, I was like,
- 24:34Speaker 2: why would you put like all of this entire year
- 24:37Speaker 2: where all these so-called NFL people were putting Shador Sanders
- 24:41Speaker 2: in a bad spot by just saying things that just
- 24:44Speaker 2: shouldn't be said, like let him work through it? Why
- 24:47Speaker 2: would you ever say, you know what, I see the
- 24:48Speaker 2: same skill set in Bo Bo? Guess what, fam? Guess
- 24:52Speaker 2: who the responsibilities have been handed over to? Not Bo Bo.
- 24:57Speaker 2: This man's running pick and roll. Top of the key,
- 25:00Speaker 2: pick and roll. He's in the corner for a spot
- 25:03Speaker 2: up three if you need him. Nothing is happening in
- 25:05Speaker 2: the paint. People's two-point percentages plummet not by three, four.
- 25:10Speaker 2: We're talking 11 percentage points defensively. And you're an economist.
- 25:15Speaker 2: You know when some shit changes minus 11? That is
- 25:19Speaker 2: the Great Depression of offense in that paint. No, I
- 25:23Speaker 2: don't think people understand what we're watching.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Imagine, like, what's the scouting report look like? Because, like,
- 25:31Speaker 1: Gilbert Reed is talking about this all the time. Like,
- 25:32Speaker 1: his thing about Iverson was he was the whole scouting report. Like,
- 25:36Speaker 1: there was no question about anybody else. The whole scouting
- 25:38Speaker 1: report was what we're going to do with Allen Iverson.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So what is your scouting report about when the Spurs
- 25:44Speaker 1: are on defense?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Head on swivel.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. That's it. And you can lie to
- 25:52Speaker 2: your bigs. Like, it's a lot of lies in the
- 25:54Speaker 2: Scott Report. Like, do your work early. Beat him down
- 25:56Speaker 2: to court and get physical with him. That man is
- 25:59Speaker 2: two steps from half court to the rim. What are
- 26:01Speaker 2: we talking about beat him early? These are mere more.
- 26:05Speaker 2: These are the when you see a six, eight basketball
- 26:08Speaker 2: player walk into a restaurant, the presence that that person
- 26:12Speaker 2: comes in with is, you know, it's a thing. Right.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Them dudes walk in and you're like, oh, they don't
- 26:17Speaker 2: make them like this. Right. It's the reason why Dustin
- 26:20Speaker 2: Pedroia winning an MVP in baseball is like, oh, it's
- 26:23Speaker 2: the every man's sport. That could be he could be,
- 26:25Speaker 2: you know, you can be my electrician. Good for you.
- 26:28Speaker 2: When a 6'8 dude is looking at Victor Wimbinyama like,
- 26:32Speaker 2: I don't know what to do with this. And that's
- 26:34Speaker 2: the prototype in the league. 6'8 wing. You get you
- 26:37Speaker 2: some 6'8 wings, you cooking with gas. Rui Hachimura is
- 26:41Speaker 2: looking at Victor Wimbinyama like, for what?
- 26:43Speaker 1: For what? For what?
- 26:45Speaker 2: What you want me to do? You want me to hedge?
- 26:48Speaker 1: You spend your whole off season working on up fakes.
- 26:53Speaker 3: That's your only move is a head fake.
- 26:55Speaker 2: That's it.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Except this motherfucker don't even actually have to jump to
- 26:59Speaker 1: pitch your shit.
- 27:00Speaker 3: He just does that for the exercise.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Wait till he get mad. That's already starting to happen.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But I'm talking about the bump your head in the playoffs, man.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Because this don't happen this year. There's going to be
- 27:12Speaker 2: some shit where, you know, somebody don't show up or
- 27:14Speaker 2: he has a game where he ain't shooting well. There's
- 27:17Speaker 2: going to be some weird game five where all these
- 27:19Speaker 2: referendums come out. Victor was seven for 19 with only
- 27:22Speaker 2: six blocks in it. And watch what I tell you.
- 27:24Speaker 2: If that man went to go visit monks when people
- 27:27Speaker 2: was like, hey, man, you're a fashion icon. You're bringing
- 27:29Speaker 2: back French basketball. Y'all going to gold medal here soon.
- 27:33Speaker 2: And you are going to be the face of the
- 27:34Speaker 2: league where you're recreating what the audience in an NBA
- 27:38Speaker 2: arena looks like to make it more adaptive to what
- 27:43Speaker 2: happens overseas like football. Wait till he get pissed and
- 27:46Speaker 2: have that Magic Johnson, you know, Tragic Johnson situation where
- 27:51Speaker 2: you go cry for a couple of months and you
- 27:54Speaker 2: come back on a rampage.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Hold on, though.
- 27:56Speaker 3: That was what the Olympics was in 24. I think
- 28:00Speaker 3: it was a taste. You know what?
- 28:03Speaker 1: I think that's fair because he did the Grammy taste.
- 28:06Speaker 1: That one's going to bear fruit in four years.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. No, no, no.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Terrified.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's going to be that red, white, and blue is cool,
- 28:13Speaker 1: but that blue, blonde, rouge. Blue, blonde, rouge is.
- 28:17Speaker 3: You know how salty he got to be.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Cooper Flagg. Who else? All these freshmen that's in.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Dude, Chet going to be on that team and you
- 28:27Speaker 1: know how he feel about Chet.
- 28:29Speaker 2: There's nothing worse than when somebody got beef with you
- 28:32Speaker 2: and you're like, I don't want this. Like, why are
- 28:36Speaker 2: we doing this?
- 28:37Speaker 1: And I think Chet started with, I got, hold on,
- 28:40Speaker 1: Chet started with, I got beef back. And then I
- 28:42Speaker 1: think the futility of it has become clear.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's, oh, no, no. I wasn't talking about like
- 28:47Speaker 2: he didn't reply. I'm talking about the resignation. I mean,
- 28:50Speaker 2: come on, dog.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Mark told you, hey, there's somebody tougher than you at
- 28:55Speaker 2: all times.
- 28:57Speaker 1: What you got to remember is that Chet's older than him.
- 28:59Speaker 1: So they've been playing against each other all these years.
- 29:01Speaker 1: And what that means is at some point, there was
- 29:04Speaker 1: a passing that took place. And so Chet probably was
- 29:08Speaker 1: able to bully him at a point.
- 29:11Speaker 3: And that point is over. And he got the whole
- 29:14Speaker 3: squad hating Chet. He hates Chet that much.
- 29:17Speaker 2: You know this, man.
- 29:18Speaker 1: He out here going to hang out with the monks,
- 29:21Speaker 1: Chet in the videos with the backward hat and the
- 29:23Speaker 1: money sign on the chain.
- 29:25Speaker 3: You know he ain't about him.
- 29:27Speaker 2: That Oklahoma City run, and we talked about it a
- 29:30Speaker 2: couple of times during the finals where that team, I
- 29:32Speaker 2: don't know, and it's the old head in me, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 2: tap my Bluetooth barbecue sandals is wearing old head in me. Right. I,
- 29:40Speaker 2: I sat there and saw myself rooting for Ben Shepard
- 29:43Speaker 2: and Benedict Matherin and Tyrese Halliburton. Like, that Oklahoma City
- 29:47Speaker 2: Thunder team, for some, is an easy team to be.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Like, you know what?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Y'all cold as hell, but, you know, there's something there. Like,
- 29:56Speaker 2: y'all was them kids in high school, right? And Victor
- 29:59Speaker 2: don't know nothing about any of y'all Americanized ways. He
- 30:03Speaker 2: here to kick y'all out. I knew hell was coming when...
- 30:09Speaker 2: A few World Cups ago, I saw Kylian Mbappe for
- 30:12Speaker 2: the first time. And I was like, wait, when the
- 30:15Speaker 2: French squad going to come out here? I'm like, oh,
- 30:18Speaker 2: shout out to colonization.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, France decided to start treating soccer like America did
- 30:23Speaker 1: with basketball. Like, do you want to see yourself or
- 30:27Speaker 1: do you want to see some guy yanked?
- 30:31Speaker 3: Gagne, I believe, is the word.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Bunch of confidence. There we go. There we go.
- 30:37Speaker 3: There we go.
- 30:38Speaker 1: They're still mining, still harvesting, right? Still bringing it home.
- 30:42Speaker 1: But coming up next, we got more coming up, including,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I need to find out what Goff think about the
- 30:47Speaker 1: idea of the Eagles trading A.J.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Brown.

- 33:25Speaker 1: we are back with Jason Goff. I keep seeing people
- 33:30Speaker 1: talk about how the Eagles they must be tied to A.J.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Brown and so they need to trade A.J. Brown and
- 33:37Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I don't know if
- 33:42Speaker 1: you have ever been in a place where you work
- 33:45Speaker 1: somewhere and you said that it was a problem and
- 33:49Speaker 1: everybody knew it was a problem. But now and you
- 33:54Speaker 1: are better at what you do than the problem. But
- 33:58Speaker 1: rather than do something about the problem, they decide that
- 34:02Speaker 1: you the problem for saying that there's a problem. and
- 34:07Speaker 1: that saying that there's a problem is what is actually
- 34:11Speaker 1: the problem, even though everybody knows that the problem is
- 34:17Speaker 1: a problem, but you the problem for saying something about
- 34:21Speaker 1: the problem. I feel like that's what they're saying about A.J. Brown,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and I feel like that is loser behavior.
- 34:29Speaker 2: It's been such a weird story track where we've been
- 34:35Speaker 2: programmed and even with the words, right? Like diva. And,
- 34:39Speaker 2: you know, there's a lot of coded language when we
- 34:41Speaker 2: talk about wide receivers and how far they are away
- 34:44Speaker 2: from the line of scrimmage and how much, how dependent
- 34:46Speaker 2: they are. And the, the, the, the psychoanalysis of the
- 34:48Speaker 2: wide receiver position that every once in a while, you know,
- 34:52Speaker 2: they say some things where it's like, Oh yeah. Dumb
- 34:55Speaker 2: the boys. That's going to say it. If anything, sometimes
- 34:59Speaker 2: you got to listen. Problem. I think that that has
- 35:01Speaker 2: occurred is one. Jalen is, He's performed in some huge moments.
- 35:08Speaker 3: He has.
- 35:09Speaker 2: That have bought him enough of this space and enough
- 35:12Speaker 2: of this room. And we still running around like, you know,
- 35:16Speaker 2: half the quarterbacks in the league ain't black anymore. So
- 35:19Speaker 2: anytime a brother is accosted, even if it's by another brother.
- 35:23Speaker 1: But here's the thing. But the other brothers are more
- 35:27Speaker 1: likely to accost the brother. That is an important detail
- 35:32Speaker 1: of this. But here's the thing, right?
- 35:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 3: But you tell me if I'm tripping here. You're right.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts has performed in those moments.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But I think we generally agree that he is the
- 35:48Speaker 1: limiting factor of the offense. He was the limiting factor
- 35:51Speaker 1: at two colleges. He is the limiting factor here with
- 35:56Speaker 1: this offense. But he is an intractable situation with him.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Right.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Like there's he's he's the quarterback, guys. He's quarterback now.
- 36:07Speaker 1: He's going to be the quarterback. And that is why A.J.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Brown is the problem for saying that the problem is
- 36:14Speaker 1: the problem. And they can't quite solve the problem. So
- 36:17Speaker 1: all they can do is try to get themselves some peace.
- 36:20Speaker 3: The thing is, if.
- 36:21Speaker 1: They trade him, it's forty three.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Million dollars worth of dead money.
- 36:26Speaker 1: All of that for me is to say he going
- 36:28Speaker 1: to goddamn where are you going to be right back
- 36:31Speaker 1: there next year?
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and on top of all that, I think people,
- 36:38Speaker 2: we're in a different time where wide receivers become more
- 36:42Speaker 2: available and ready to play in a draft than they
- 36:45Speaker 2: have in, I think, a long time. I remember the
- 36:48Speaker 2: days where the Rod Gardners of the world and Javon
- 36:51Speaker 2: Walker and David Terrell, and you're looking at guys who
- 36:55Speaker 2: put up big numbers in college, and you're like, all right,
- 36:57Speaker 2: I don't know if this guy's going to be cold
- 36:59Speaker 2: or not on the next level because for whatever reason-
- 37:01Speaker 2: certain things didn't translate. Now, you got cats who are
- 37:05Speaker 2: getting like running back status in terms of drafting, where
- 37:08Speaker 2: it's like, oh, go get one fourth, fifth round. You know,
- 37:10Speaker 2: Pooka Nicole, cold. Like, Pooka Cup had a terrific run
- 37:14Speaker 2: out of Eastern Washington. I mean, yeah, you got anybody.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I mean, Devontae Adams is a third round pick.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Antonio Brown, seventh round pick.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Right. So I think they might be thinking, too, put
- 37:26Speaker 2: a little pressure on you to shut up. We can
- 37:28Speaker 2: move you and go do whatever we need to do
- 37:31Speaker 2: if we have to go get a wide receiver of
- 37:33Speaker 2: less repute.
- 37:34Speaker 1: They ain't about to be eating no $ 43 million.
- 37:38Speaker 2: They can't. They can't. And also, if you're AJ, this
- 37:42Speaker 2: shows you how committed, in a real value way to me,
- 37:45Speaker 2: this shows you how committed he is and how much
- 37:47Speaker 2: I think he truly wants to win. He just thinks,
- 37:49Speaker 2: and he's right, give me the ball, we're going to
- 37:51Speaker 2: win more. if he was quiet about this, right? If
- 37:55Speaker 2: he didn't say anything, like say this year, he goes
- 37:57Speaker 2: on a full, you know, I'm going to abstain from
- 38:00Speaker 2: saying anything about the offense. and they perform the same way.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Won't it be as loud? Now that you've already set
- 38:07Speaker 2: this ground, you know what I mean? Now that you
- 38:09Speaker 2: didn't open up a couple of books on the sideline,
- 38:11Speaker 2: which still to me is the wildest shit. Like in
- 38:17Speaker 2: certain sections being that passive aggressive, you have to buckle up,
- 38:21Speaker 2: you know, but the fact that he is AJ Brown
- 38:23Speaker 2: in an Eagles locker room and nobody did it, show
- 38:26Speaker 2: you how tough that motherfucker truly is. The fact that A.J.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Brown has already laid this groundwork, right? And even in
- 38:33Speaker 2: the quotes, like, Devontae Smith don't get a lot of
- 38:36Speaker 2: this because he's seen as the quiet one. He was
- 38:38Speaker 2: saying a lot of the same stuff.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Say the same stuff.
- 38:41Speaker 2: So now everybody can back off and be like, all right,
- 38:43Speaker 2: let's go do it. Go play as hard as you
- 38:45Speaker 2: have been playing. But if you need a running back
- 38:47Speaker 2: to run for 2,000 yards for this offense to work,
- 38:49Speaker 2: that's letting you know something.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:51Speaker 3: But see, that also is why.
- 38:54Speaker 3: The idea of moving on from A.J.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Brown is a problem because the rest of those cats
- 38:59Speaker 1: know that the problem is not saying something about the problem.
- 39:04Speaker 2: But how does the problem get better then?
- 39:06Speaker 3: I don't have an answer for that.
- 39:07Speaker 1: But if you start running people out for saying that
- 39:11Speaker 1: the problem is the problem. and everybody else knows that
- 39:15Speaker 1: the problem is the problem, now your problem is going
- 39:18Speaker 1: to be that these other cats now have even more
- 39:22Speaker 1: of a problem with the problem because telling the truth
- 39:25Speaker 1: has now become the problem. And you can't never have
- 39:28Speaker 1: a circumstance where telling the truth is the problem.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Well, welcome to this season of America. Yo, so this
- 39:38Speaker 2: is the thing, too. With all this that's going, all
- 39:41Speaker 2: the noise that go around that situation with Nick Sirianni
- 39:44Speaker 2: and the start that he's had to his career, where
- 39:46Speaker 2: it's like, look at the wins and losses and look
- 39:48Speaker 2: how we disrespect this entire situation. A.J. Brown, you know,
- 39:53Speaker 2: the terrific group of receivers. I think Jalen Hurts sometimes
- 39:57Speaker 2: gets to ride on the, you know, I'm smooth. Your
- 40:00Speaker 2: girl want me. I'm a wholesome man. Yeah. the way
- 40:04Speaker 2: that these dudes talk and the way AJ, like AJ,
- 40:07Speaker 2: the dude who pipe up seemingly like, Hey y'all, y'all
- 40:09Speaker 2: know how, y'all know how it gets down behind closed
- 40:11Speaker 2: doors in here. I ain't going to be the only
- 40:14Speaker 2: one that look crazy. Like, you know, you get $ 200 million.
- 40:17Speaker 2: You moving and shaking behind the scenes. Like the dude
- 40:19Speaker 2: is a, is the son of a coach. He knows
- 40:23Speaker 2: what pressure points to push behind the scenes. That's why
- 40:28Speaker 2: anybody that come to you that way, as calmly as
- 40:31Speaker 2: he does in the face of chaos or storm, is like,
- 40:36Speaker 2: I've only known dope dealers to behave this way, to
- 40:38Speaker 2: be honest with you. It's all good. And you're like,
- 40:41Speaker 2: oh no, it ain't all good. Something is happening in
- 40:44Speaker 2: the background right now.
- 40:45Speaker 1: So where I would be hot if I was AJ,
- 40:49Speaker 1: and again, another place, Where I have been before, there's
- 40:56Speaker 1: nothing worse when you're the only one.
- 41:01Speaker 3: The only one saying what's wrong. And everybody leaving you
- 41:05Speaker 3: out there, right? When you do it, they be like, yeah, dog, yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 3: we needed that.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Somebody had to say that. And he'd be like, hey, man,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I can't be the one to do this all the time, man,
- 41:13Speaker 1: because otherwise I will become the problem if y'all don't
- 41:17Speaker 1: get a little louder.
- 41:17Speaker 2: And I don't want to be the problem. I'm not
- 41:19Speaker 2: just the problem. Right, right.
- 41:20Speaker 1: And so maybe the problem is A.J. Brown just too
- 41:22Speaker 1: good at it because he'd be using books and stuff
- 41:24Speaker 1: like that. But somebody else got to come out here
- 41:27Speaker 1: and stand with me.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Hey, man, you just made me think of a moment.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Do you remember? You probably don't. Tyreek Evans for the
- 41:37Speaker 2: Sacramento Kings back in the day. After United Center, the
- 41:41Speaker 2: Bulls were up 27 or something like that. And Tyreek
- 41:45Speaker 2: Evans went on one of those tears where it's like, oh,
- 41:48Speaker 2: my God.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Name I haven't thought of in so long.
- 41:51Speaker 2: By the way. It was so amazing to watch that
- 41:55Speaker 2: display of shot making and the dude just being the
- 41:57Speaker 2: best cat on the court in his second year. We
- 42:00Speaker 2: all get back to the media room, Bo. And this
- 42:03Speaker 2: is after Vini had had a tough run of it.
- 42:07Speaker 2: And everybody's talking about it. And everybody's like, Vinny down there, bro. Man,
- 42:14Speaker 2: everybody's like, that's a game. You get fired. That's one
- 42:17Speaker 2: of them things. Why my dumb ass sit right there
- 42:20Speaker 2: in the media room and is like, yo, are you
- 42:22Speaker 2: worried about your job security? And the entire room, record scratch.
- 42:26Speaker 2: They all look at me like, I can't believe you
- 42:28Speaker 2: asked that. I'm like, wait a minute. We was all
- 42:30Speaker 2: just talking about this. We was all, and then, you know,
- 42:35Speaker 2: the worst thing in a media group like that is
- 42:37Speaker 2: everybody asking the question, hey, so what was the substitution pattern?
- 42:41Speaker 2: And what do you think? Like, they started to fluff
- 42:42Speaker 2: it up for him. Man, do you know Vinny walked
- 42:44Speaker 2: out that joint and dat me up? It was like,
- 42:48Speaker 2: I know what's happening. I understand. That was a bad game.
- 42:50Speaker 2: It's like sometimes the problem just needs to be addressed.
- 42:54Speaker 2: And if the problem has any accountability, that lets you know.
- 42:58Speaker 2: That lets you know. It feels like A.J. Brown knows
- 43:01Speaker 2: that Jalen Hurts is hearing the problem be addressed and
- 43:06Speaker 2: their problem has not been addressed in the background. Like,
- 43:09Speaker 2: it feels like a cat who like, hey, man, you know,
- 43:13Speaker 2: I know what I'm not doing out there. You know
- 43:15Speaker 2: what I'm not doing out there. You feel me? Let's
- 43:18Speaker 2: keep this smooth. Let's get this paper. Ready? Break. It
- 43:21Speaker 2: doesn't feel like that conversation has happened with this crew.
- 43:25Speaker 2: That's why AJ just keep popping up. You know what?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Until the conversation happens, I'm just going to let y'all
- 43:30Speaker 2: know what should be going down here.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Remember when they tried to act like they had had
- 43:34Speaker 1: a summit and it turned out that they just talked
- 43:36Speaker 1: in the parking lot right quick?
- 43:40Speaker 2: Hey, everybody hit the self-starter on the car. I got
- 43:44Speaker 2: two minutes, gang. I got to go pick somebody up.
- 43:46Speaker 2: What are we doing in here? Hey, man, the offense
- 43:49Speaker 2: ain't running this smoothly. All right, it sounded like a plan.
- 43:51Speaker 2: All right, cool. Everybody go. Man, I think that worked out. Like,
- 43:55Speaker 2: that's one of them means where you're like, that went well.
- 43:58Speaker 2: That went well, right? And then you find out your
- 44:00Speaker 2: ass is going to be in Jacksonville next year because
- 44:03Speaker 2: nobody thinks that Jalen Hurts is the one to go against. And,
- 44:06Speaker 2: you know, amen. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Like,
- 44:09Speaker 2: he's been in big situations his entire life. And people
- 44:13Speaker 2: have been like, you know? And he's survived. You know?
- 44:17Speaker 2: I mean.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Shout out to Philadelphia because this is the end of
- 44:22Speaker 2: a run. And they're doing it with that defense. They are.
- 44:26Speaker 2: That defense. Those Georgia dudes are sitting on the other side.
- 44:30Speaker 2: That's the other thing, too. In that locker room, at
- 44:33Speaker 2: some point, one of them Georgia boys is going to
- 44:35Speaker 2: be like, I'm used to more points being scored. Like,
- 44:41Speaker 2: I'm used to Jalen Carter's going to wake up and
- 44:43Speaker 2: be like, you know what? I don't like the fact
- 44:45Speaker 2: that my wide receiver is constantly calling out my offense
- 44:48Speaker 2: and I can't do it. You know? At some point,
- 44:51Speaker 2: it's got to happen.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Hey, man, before we get out of here, I don't
- 44:54Speaker 1: know if you've seen this.
- 44:55Speaker 3: It's from the Combine.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Man, motherfuckers be doing their radio shows and shit from
- 44:59Speaker 1: the Combine now.
- 44:59Speaker 2: That is crazy.
- 45:02Speaker 1: But you get great guests. I hadn't really thought about that, right?
- 45:05Speaker 1: And everybody at the Combine, I've never been there, but
- 45:07Speaker 1: they really be looking forward to the Combine. It sound
- 45:09Speaker 1: like a sausage party to me. But them cats, that's
- 45:13Speaker 1: their time to catch up with all the homies.
- 45:15Speaker 3: And, you know, anyway.
- 45:16Speaker 2: It's a different kind of hanging out.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Right?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I think we've talked about this.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Two Americans kind of hanging out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Two Americas and a city with one restaurant. And if
- 45:26Speaker 1: you're from Indianapolis, I'm sure you got more than one restaurant.
- 45:29Speaker 1: It's just only one restaurant that any of us have
- 45:31Speaker 1: heard of. Anyway, Andrew Berry, general manager of the Browns,
- 45:36Speaker 1: is up there and said that they're going to have
- 45:37Speaker 1: a quarterback competition this year coming. It's going to be
- 45:40Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson. It's going to be Dylan Gabriel. It's going
- 45:43Speaker 1: to be Shadua Sanders. I don't know who else they're
- 45:46Speaker 1: going to throw into the mix. And I've seen people like,
- 45:50Speaker 1: I don't, I don't feel like quarterback competition is the
- 45:54Speaker 1: right way to put it. Like in theory, it will
- 45:56Speaker 1: be a competition, but the bottom line is the idea
- 46:00Speaker 1: that those are your three guys and you really don't
- 46:03Speaker 1: have an answer. Like it, the fact that it's possible
- 46:06Speaker 1: that any of them can start is terrible. Like all
- 46:11Speaker 1: those guys have a chance.
- 46:13Speaker 2: That's a, if I'm Arch Manning, I'm like, yo, can
- 46:17Speaker 2: I go play college basketball? Like, can I get drafted
- 46:20Speaker 2: in the NBA and then come back and get some eligibility?
- 46:22Speaker 2: Because it's a tough situation, man. I don't, you know,
- 46:29Speaker 2: I'm not in these waters anymore. I'm not in the
- 46:31Speaker 2: club of a fan base who doesn't have a quarterback.
- 46:34Speaker 2: You feel me? Here we go. Here we go. Here
- 46:39Speaker 2: in Chicago, we don't have these kind of poverty conversations
- 46:43Speaker 2: about quarterbacks anymore. You feel me? That's so funny. Not
- 46:46Speaker 2: an 18 is running around doing podcasts where he talking like,
- 46:50Speaker 2: you know, Jesus himself. That Max Crosby podcast where I'm like, hey,
- 46:54Speaker 2: this man is talking like Michael Jordan in football pants.
- 46:57Speaker 2: But no, man, Shador, you know, Everything that's been put
- 47:02Speaker 2: on him and also the things that he has accepted,
- 47:04Speaker 2: he seems like a swell young dude. Like, he trying
- 47:07Speaker 2: to make his way in the social media world that
- 47:09Speaker 2: has corrupted all the young folk. You know what I mean?
- 47:12Speaker 2: And then you got Deshaun, who, you know, his superpower
- 47:16Speaker 2: seemingly came from being... You know what I mean? Like,
- 47:21Speaker 2: you think about the wild shit that he was engaging
- 47:24Speaker 2: in and what we was watching when he was engaging
- 47:26Speaker 2: in that? Like, that dude.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Samson is real.
- 47:33Speaker 1: My thought on him is, it's hard to traffic in
- 47:36Speaker 1: this world when you've been exposed to be a fraud.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Knowing that everybody can see through you.
- 47:42Speaker 1: And you're supposed to be making split-second decisions.
- 47:46Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? And then the Dylan Gabriel thing.
- 47:50Speaker 2: You know, I... There are certain quarterback rooms where you
- 47:56Speaker 2: know you're just looking for the next guy. And that
- 47:59Speaker 2: is one of those rooms. Nobody's coming from that. And
- 48:03Speaker 2: I know people want to, because I think Sam Darnall
- 48:06Speaker 2: and Baker Mayfield got a lot of people twisted. where
- 48:09Speaker 2: where it's now you can just go out and get
- 48:11Speaker 2: some redemption story at the quarterback position and be okay
- 48:15Speaker 2: like like like dudes out here long relievers after tommy
- 48:18Speaker 2: john or something like that like the league tell you
- 48:21Speaker 2: they give you a certain amount of data on a
- 48:23Speaker 2: player and that player then grows with that data this
- 48:28Speaker 2: ain't this ain't that like that room is short slow
- 48:33Speaker 2: and nasty You know what I mean? Like, if I
- 48:39Speaker 2: was describing a quarterback room, I wouldn't want those to
- 48:42Speaker 2: be the three modifiers that I go with. You know
- 48:46Speaker 2: what I'm saying? Like, one dude is 5'9, right?
- 48:50Speaker 1: You're never, like, and that whole August, they gonna be
- 48:53Speaker 1: talking that shit up, boy. They gonna be talking, like,
- 48:56Speaker 1: at least in local, as if it matters. Like, Andrew
- 49:00Speaker 1: Barry basically said, so what? What's the point? Dominique was
- 49:04Speaker 1: making the point that worst case scenario for the Browns
- 49:07Speaker 1: is that Deshaun Watson, old nasty ass, get out there
- 49:09Speaker 1: and start killing it. And now you got to resign him.
- 49:12Speaker 1: And I'm like, no, that'd be the best thing that
- 49:13Speaker 1: ever happened to you. That's the worst trade of all time.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Trade plus the contract.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Guaranteed. It is the.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Worst transaction any team has made.
- 49:25Speaker 1: And then he went and suffered a debilitating injury after
- 49:28Speaker 1: he'd already had the ACL. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:32Speaker 3: Then he had the ACL in college.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Dude, I remember... So when I was in Atlanta, they
- 49:38Speaker 2: brought him to 92.9 The Game. And I wasn't, at
- 49:43Speaker 2: that time, hip on not only just the impact of
- 49:47Speaker 2: Recruiting Day in the South, but also how 17-year-olds can
- 49:51Speaker 2: be treated like little kings. And I saw him come through, quiet,
- 49:55Speaker 2: understated dude. And the photographer is sitting there, and he's
- 50:00Speaker 2: just cheesing. And he's just snapping pictures. And I'm like,
- 50:03Speaker 2: this is a big deal for you, huh? Like, I'm
- 50:05Speaker 2: trying to figure. And he tells me who he is.
- 50:07Speaker 2: And then he tells me, I'm a Clemson fan. This
- 50:09Speaker 2: dude is going to win me. And he said me,
- 50:11Speaker 2: win me a national championship. I was like, oh, this
- 50:15Speaker 2: must be one of the gods of this thing. Like,
- 50:17Speaker 2: this shorty is that. And then you watch what he
- 50:19Speaker 2: was doing at Clemson. And you're like, OK, this is awesome. Like,
- 50:24Speaker 2: Steve McNair.
- 50:26Speaker 1: He's the closest to the Vince Young comp.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Tough as hell, too, getting his ass beat in some
- 50:30Speaker 2: of those football games. So for all that to just
- 50:34Speaker 2: dissipate with injury and scandal and all those things, man,
- 50:39Speaker 2: if he go out there and get any of that back,
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm not saying any of that stuff should be overlooked
- 50:44Speaker 2: and will be overlooked because we know it's going to
- 50:45Speaker 2: follow him forever. But yeah, the Browns, at this point,
- 50:50Speaker 2: Miles Garrett just sitting there like, give me anything, gang.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I'm clean as a whistle. My girl winning gold medals
- 50:58Speaker 2: and shit. I'm good money. Just put something over there
- 51:01Speaker 2: that's going to help me out.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Miles Garrett pulled up to Super Bowl radio row last
- 51:06Speaker 1: year asking for a trade, and they was like, how
- 51:08Speaker 1: about some money?
- 51:09Speaker 3: He was like, oh, that'll work too.
- 51:11Speaker 2: That'll do it. That'll do it. Is that old Les
- 51:14Speaker 2: Miles like, hey, man, you know they hiring over here, right? Oh, damn.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Not another $ 11 million. Cool, right?
- 51:20Speaker 1: I get it.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Are you right? They say nothing on that. They say
- 51:24Speaker 2: no conversations been had, but you just give them a, no,
- 51:27Speaker 2: you're right. You're right.
- 51:27Speaker 1: He just told us there, there is a, and look,
- 51:30Speaker 1: I'm not mad at him for it, just to be clear,
- 51:32Speaker 1: but there's a price he's willing to, there's a price he's.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Willing to pay to lose.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Hey, listen, man, when I saw Mario Williams go to
- 51:39Speaker 2: Buffalo happily, You know what I'm saying? Like, Mario is like, hey, man,
- 51:45Speaker 2: this is it. You said 90 what? You know what
- 51:50Speaker 2: I mean? You know how old I am? You know
- 51:53Speaker 2: who you're giving this money to, right? And that's a
- 51:55Speaker 2: dude who's just, hey, fishing, hanging out, you know, Houston.
- 51:58Speaker 2: But now, dog, if I'm going to get my brains
- 52:01Speaker 2: beat in on a weekly basis and be the coldest,
- 52:04Speaker 2: like bar none at my position in my sport, yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 2: just give me the bread, man.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Yeah, like Miles Garrett is going to be like, if
- 52:12Speaker 1: it was back in the day, like, you know, his
- 52:14Speaker 1: NFL Films episode is going to be crazy, right? He's
- 52:16Speaker 1: going to be in there in the same video with LT, right?
- 52:19Speaker 1: In the same video with Reggie White, you know, like
- 52:22Speaker 1: the cutting edge or whatever they want to call it
- 52:24Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 52:25Speaker 3: He'd be that cat right over there.
- 52:27Speaker 1: And he's just like, hey, man, all I can be
- 52:30Speaker 1: assured of is getting this bread.
- 52:33Speaker 2: That's it?
- 52:34Speaker 3: That's it.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Did you see that pod that he did the other
- 52:37Speaker 1: day with.
- 52:39Speaker 3: Michael Parsons. First of all, that Michael Parsons.
- 52:44Speaker 2: A handful.
- 52:47Speaker 1: He is a handful and found himself in an unexpected
- 52:54Speaker 1: battle of wits. And he was not prepared.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Underarmed. Underarmed.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he didn't.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Have the artillery that was necessary because Miles Garrett was
- 53:06Speaker 1: just firing his ass.
- 53:08Speaker 3: And look, Michael Parsons, stone cold beast. But his explanations for.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Why he's different than Miles Garrett fell.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Completely flat in every way.
- 53:17Speaker 1: And Miles Garrett was answering him about those things like
- 53:20Speaker 1: he wasn't Miles Garrett. Like he was answering him just
- 53:24Speaker 1: like an objective observer.
- 53:27Speaker 2: This is the thing. Nobody that cold would be this
- 53:31Speaker 2: anonymous in any other sport. Because we've known for a
- 53:35Speaker 2: long time this dude paints. This dude loves writing poetry.
- 53:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 53:41Speaker 3: Anime cat.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Anime, yeah. When the Mason Rudolph shit popped off, immediately
- 53:45Speaker 2: it was like, oh, no, no. He said something. Because
- 53:48Speaker 2: this dude, he has the physical stature to murder people
- 53:52Speaker 2: at any time, any place he wants to, and would
- 53:55Speaker 2: rather be putting together, you know, collages. Legos. Yeah, Legos. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I remember when I first saw him at Texas A & M,
- 54:02Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, no, no. You should be the first pick.
- 54:04Speaker 2: And they're like, Jason, he's a sophomore. I'm like, I
- 54:05Speaker 2: don't give a shit. He should be the first pick
- 54:08Speaker 2: in the draft. Those dudes come along. So for him
- 54:12Speaker 2: to be as understated as he is and then get
- 54:14Speaker 2: on the couch with a dude. First of all, if
- 54:17Speaker 2: you Micah Parsons, sometimes you just got to know. Like
- 54:20Speaker 2: he said, it's still my time. Sometimes you just got
- 54:22Speaker 2: to know. I didn't finish the season because I was injured.
- 54:24Speaker 2: My team lost our bitter rival in one of the
- 54:27Speaker 2: more painful fashions in forever. And now I got to
- 54:32Speaker 2: talk crazy. He just broke the Saks record That's what
- 54:37Speaker 2: I'm saying. Some battles, like the emcees who don't respond,
- 54:43Speaker 2: that'd be looking to work. This T.I. 50 thing, he
- 54:47Speaker 2: can't respond.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Hey, man, sometimes you have to recognize, even if it's
- 54:52Speaker 1: not just overall, even if it's just in this moment, right?
- 54:57Speaker 1: I got into something once on the radio with Jay Billis,
- 55:00Speaker 1: and it was when Ben Howland was at the end
- 55:01Speaker 1: of his time at UCLA, and Dan kind of, I think,
- 55:05Speaker 1: brought it up and I made some point. And I
- 55:08Speaker 1: don't think I was being a dick about it. But
- 55:10Speaker 1: I will tell you this, for whatever reason, and I
- 55:13Speaker 1: don't know what the reason is, this was a very
- 55:16Speaker 1: serious topic for Jay Billis. And it did not take
- 55:20Speaker 1: very long for me to recognize that this was not
- 55:24Speaker 1: a winning proposition for me, nor was it a victory
- 55:27Speaker 1: I was that concerned with. And I was just like, hey, man,
- 55:31Speaker 1: I got to tap out of this. I can try
- 55:34Speaker 1: to fight this if I want to.
- 55:36Speaker 3: That's only going to make it worse. Because Jay, let
- 55:38Speaker 3: me tell you, man, Jay is a formidable opponent.
- 55:40Speaker 5: All right?
- 55:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:42Speaker 1: And I just remember at some point, Jay said, Bomani,
- 55:46Speaker 1: do you have anything else? I was just kind of like, nah, man,
- 55:50Speaker 1: you got it. And I remember I was talking to
- 55:51Speaker 1: Dan after. I was like, yo, he got me.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Right?
- 55:54Speaker 1: And Dan's like, well, he was being a dick. I'm like, nah, man,
- 55:56Speaker 1: that's not the point.
- 55:58Speaker 3: He got it.
- 55:59Speaker 2: That's it.
- 56:00Speaker 3: That's it.
- 56:01Speaker 1: I didn't win this time. I have to accept the
- 56:04Speaker 1: fact that I did not win this one. Michael Parsons
- 56:08Speaker 1: was losing and just kept, you know what he kept doing?
- 56:11Speaker 1: He was putting his shot up and Victor just kept
- 56:14Speaker 1: pitching it, but he just kept on shooting it. And
- 56:17Speaker 1: at no point did he think, man, maybe I should
- 56:19Speaker 1: just dribble this out or let the shot clock run out.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Maybe it's time for somebody else. Maybe it's time for somebody.
- 56:25Speaker 2: There's strength in that understanding. Right? As men, you know,
- 56:29Speaker 2: we all been around a dude who's like, hey, man,
- 56:32Speaker 2: you're not making this better for anybody around us. Like,
- 56:34Speaker 2: we around a dude who always got the craziest thing
- 56:38Speaker 2: to say or the hottest take and then don't have
- 56:41Speaker 2: anything to back it up and want to keep going in.
- 56:44Speaker 2: You just say, hey, man, you know, sometimes you just
- 56:46Speaker 2: want to back up off that thing and let it
- 56:48Speaker 2: breathe a little bit. You know what I mean? And
- 56:50Speaker 2: you look like the cat who's like, hey, man, you
- 56:52Speaker 2: know what? I know when to concede. Knowing when to
- 56:55Speaker 2: concede is powerful.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Also, turning an L into a W in one of
- 57:01Speaker 1: these contexts takes more time than the Internet allows.
- 57:07Speaker 2: You're going to need to deconstruct.
- 57:09Speaker 1: This whole thing, strip it all the way down to
- 57:11Speaker 1: the bottom, and then perhaps bring yourself back up to
- 57:15Speaker 1: the top.
- 57:16Speaker 3: Your regular audience might hear it.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Mike is coming back with a PowerPoint of double teams.
- 57:25Speaker 3: It's going to take a while.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Are you going to need to let that shit go
- 57:28Speaker 1: on for so long that you can slightly divert the
- 57:30Speaker 1: topic and we're actually no longer talking about what we
- 57:33Speaker 1: were talking about before, but it's some shit that you
- 57:35Speaker 1: write about?
- 57:36Speaker 2: Yeah. And, and, you know, you got to know your
- 57:39Speaker 2: opponent too. Like, you know, you comport yourself in the
- 57:44Speaker 2: way that he comports himself.
- 57:45Speaker 1: In this case, I think it was a little less
- 57:47Speaker 1: about knowing your opponent than it was about knowing thyself.
- 57:51Speaker 1: I used to see CJ Stroud used to cook his
- 57:53Speaker 1: ass too.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Speaking of, speaking of that, uh, I don't think that play.
- 58:03Speaker 2: We talked about Wimby earlier. I don't think that playoff
- 58:06Speaker 2: performance got nearly enough. Like you talk about the microwave
- 58:11Speaker 2: society that we live in. Social media is amazing. But
- 58:15Speaker 2: back in the day, back in my day, when things
- 58:20Speaker 2: were allowed to cook a little bit. you know, four
- 58:23Speaker 2: interceptions in the first half of a playoff game wouldn't
- 58:26Speaker 2: just have been a blip on the radar. No, no, no.
- 58:29Speaker 3: It was bad, man. It was really bad.
- 58:30Speaker 1: It was, it was, and we was talking about a
- 58:32Speaker 1: real bad way to happen, but the truth is they
- 58:35Speaker 1: ain't nothing they can do about it right now. You know,
- 58:39Speaker 1: like there's just, and it was coming off the game
- 58:41Speaker 1: before when he was also terrible. They just, there's no
- 58:44Speaker 1: solution to this. He was, we were talking about him
- 58:46Speaker 1: like the best rookie quarterback we'd ever seen. There is
- 58:48Speaker 1: no solution. And so, yeah, we could talk about it,
- 58:52Speaker 1: but If he played for the Cowboys, if he played
- 58:55Speaker 1: for a team that had a national following, we would
- 58:58Speaker 1: talk about it. But otherwise, it's like, OK, what they're
- 59:01Speaker 1: not going to do is extend him right now. Right.
- 59:04Speaker 1: He's going to have to play another year and he
- 59:06Speaker 1: should want to play another year before he gets that
- 59:08Speaker 1: extension name.
- 59:10Speaker 3: To give him right now. It ain't going to be
- 59:13Speaker 3: what he had been dreaming of.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy to me how we are getting to
- 59:17Speaker 2: that place now where because it's a copycat league in
- 59:21Speaker 2: the NFL where people are thinking how bad of a
- 59:26Speaker 2: quarterback can I win the Super Bowl with? and how
- 59:30Speaker 2: that might affect the draft. Like this draft, I remember
- 59:33Speaker 2: going to college football season last year, how it was
- 59:35Speaker 2: supposed to be four or five dudes. It was supposed
- 59:37Speaker 2: to be first-rounders, and all of them hit the bench, seemingly.
- 59:40Speaker 2: That's right. And Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson rose to
- 59:44Speaker 2: the top, and now we're having conversations about how small
- 59:47Speaker 2: Ty Simpson is. Yeah.
- 59:49Speaker 1: You know what, man? You don't want to be out
- 59:51Speaker 1: in these streets trying to find one.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:55Speaker 1: I mean, the Texans had to draft the dude that
- 59:57Speaker 1: got into a heated argument with the offensive coordinator.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: On the visit.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Like, my understanding is that he went into
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: that draft knowing the one place he wouldn't be.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Going was Houston.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: So he let him know.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and then it was like, hey, man, we can't
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: afford to be letting that little shit like that get
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: in the way.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: You know? Like, nah.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Like, this is.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Look, he's who they've got. We gonna see what it
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: turns into, but... I don't know how bad he'd have
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: to play.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Man, that Houston thing, too. There's some PTSD with that, too,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: because for all those years that they was kind of cold, too,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: with Andre John, like Matt Schaub. It was always that
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: wildcard weekend where Matt Schaub and Andy Dalton was going
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: to be facing off that first playoff game of the postseason, right?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Now you're in that affect of, okay, the second tier
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: of AFC quarterbacks and how it's kind of being reshuffled
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: and You know, people don't like Justin Herbert. C.J. Stroud
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: has that kind of performance. Like, it's a weird world. Like,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: I keep mentioning, man, like I keep saying, you know,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: this last year of quarterback comfort that I've been experiencing
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: as a Bears fan. I'm not having these squalor-filled conversations
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: with all y'all quarterback brokies out here.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Nah, you know what it is, though?
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Like, it's an interesting thing nobody really talk about. You know,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: those of us who are fans of the NFC North, man,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: With the exception of the Vikings, we just overall, we
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: all feel pretty good about where we at.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: I keep forgetting you're in this line.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: The Vikings has got a quarterback situation, but I still
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: feel good about where I'm at. I'm happy that you
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: now feel good about where your squad is at.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Hey, going into this season, NFC North, if you had
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: to rank those quarterbacks, I know who would be at
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the bottom.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: But I know who's at four.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Yeah, we know who's at four. But hey, man.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I feel pretty confident. I think we're pretty clear on
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: who's at four and who's at one. I mean, I
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: know you don't feel this way about one, but I
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: think one is pretty obvious.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Do you think it's Jordan? Yes. Do you? He got
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: enough Roethlisberger in him, man. He got enough double agent
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: in him.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'd rather have him than Jerry Goff, Yo
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Kim Folk.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: And right now, I'd rather have him.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Hey, listen. All I know is we... Quarterback spoke about
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: what didn't happen on the final play with DJ Moore
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: and treated him like a professional. First thing smoking at
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: the combine, Ryan Posey was like, hey, listen, we are
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: here to upgrade our team. When he was asked about
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: DJ Moore, that man is getting wide receivers. Cut. You
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: hear me? There's moving and shaking going on at Hallis
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Hall because the man with painted males is coming down.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: And he's coming down. Hey, they're all colors, you know? Hey,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: we can run down and get one, or we can
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: walk down and get them all. Slow walk. Slow walk.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: We had to get Matt Eberflus off our jacket, but
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: we ready to rock now, baby. You know what I mean?
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: You talking about some Jordan love. He got wide receivers
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: who can't stay healthy, can't catch the ball. He got
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: a big hat dude. There's no dude in the NFL
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: running around with a big hat that you respect. No, no.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: I ain't going to lie. I ain't going to lie.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: I said about that left guard for the Patriots. I'm like, yo, man,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: that big hat. The big hat. The big hat is
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: making you a target.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: That's it.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: That's it. Like, they need a big hat breakout. Like,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: when a dude just go crazy. Like, Jackson Smith and
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Jigba need to wear the big hat and have an
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: 1,800-yard season. It's kind of like when Tony Kukoc and
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Dino Roger came over. It's like, hey, you know, these
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: European cats, they kind of saw him. He's like, nah.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: They've been having the slingshots and tanks culture for a
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: long time over there. You know what I mean? Don't
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: sleep on their toughness, but you had to see it.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: You needed proof of concept. There needs to be a
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: big hat proof of concept guy. Romeo Dobbs ain't going
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: to be that dude for me. I'm sorry, Gary.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Miles Gary got to get the big hat.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Somebody got to get it. One of the cold ones
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: got to get the big hat. One of the cold
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: ones got to be that enthused about protecting their brain
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: that they take the stigma up off of it. That's all.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: That's all it is.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: You feel me?
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Like back in the days when you see the cat
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: with the duck tail. Right? Like, you know, Houston, you know, Dallas,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: there's some interesting, you know, hair combinations and haircuts. Right?
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: I used to see the cat with the duck tail
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: back in the day. I'm like, you know what? The
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: first time I see one of those dudes pull that
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: off without somebody making a mention of his duck tail
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: in a derogatory way is when I, you know, think
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: it's okay. The big hat is the same way for me.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: I'm cool. I'm cool. We ain't got no big hat
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: dudes on the Bears, and if we do, Roshon Johnson,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Texas running back, back up to B. John Robinson. That's
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: backup behavior with that big hat. You get me? It's football.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I need regular hat dudes out there.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: And that is Jason Goff. Check him out at the Ringer.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Check him out at the Athletic. My brother, I appreciate you.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Hey, man, we got to get together soon. We got
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: to get the fellas together, you know, and hit Joel up,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: you know, and hit Dominique up, you know, get Kravis,
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: get Brumley out here. We got to go on a
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: world tour. And I mean a domestic world tour. I
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: know you're going on literal world tours out here, but
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: like a domestic world tour for us that got little.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll try to give Joel enough time to get
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: himself free.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: We can see what happens, man. But ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: thanks so much for joining us here on The Right Time.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: We do this four days a week. Ryan Brumley handing
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: everything behind the scenes.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: Thank you, sir.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Remember, hit the voicemail line, 323-596-7767. Remember, follow the right time. Subscribe, like,

- 1:05:33Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: a hater. We'll talk to you guys in a couple
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: of days.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: Take it easy.
