[upbeat rock music] Good, good day. Hi.
• 0:18
Hello. [laughs] Hi there. [laughs] Welcome. Well, I was t- trying to think of something to say and I couldn't. Uh, this is Full Spectrum Cycling, I can say that, show number 173. We got, uh, JK across the table. Hey.
• 0:34
Hello. We got Tony- Yep... sitting over there. Uh, we got, uh, another week of being in between [laughs] Full Spectrum Cycling shows.
• 0:46
[laughs] I think, um, next week you can have the pleasure of listening to probably two shows, 'cause Chewy just made a new show. Yeah. So we'll probably get that posted pretty quick here.
• 0:58
I can tell you this, it's about RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI. Oh, RAGBRAI. Past episodes, 'cause this RAGBRAI doesn't come up till, mm, to, like, two weeks or something. It's- Pretty much... the la- the last full week of July.
• 1:13
You mean like the River West 24? Except it's seven days instead of one day. True. Seven times 24. It's not seven... Yeah. It's not seven times 24, though. You're not riding 24 hours. S- maybe some people do.
• 1:26
Those people are crazy. [laughs] I can tell you this, that, uh, we probably talked about this before, Scott Dixon did the whole thing in 24 hours in one day. Really? Yeah. [exhales] 500 and some miles. Yikes. Yeah.
• 1:42
Hell, yeah, that's a, that's an accomplishment there, yeah. Yeah. Y- y- by goshie. Uh, beautiful day in the neighborhood. Yeah, sure is. Can tell you that. Sure is. Some good running weather. Except for I got soaking wet
• 1:56
coming back from, uh, soaking wet coming back from, uh, working on the house when that unexpected thunderstorm came ripping through. That, that didn't even touch, like, two miles north of- Yeah...
• 2:10
River West- It was crazy... 'cause I was, I went up there right away and I was dry. It was... Yeah. I, I got very- Oh, I got... I was in the Hills Corner zone, and it just kinda glanced- Yeah... in that area.
• 2:20
Yeah, insanely moist. But the good news is I finally have all of the vegan cheese off my shoes. Oh, that's been a long time. Couple years maybe. Yeah. Yeah, just in time [laughs] for People's Holiday. [laughs] Yeah.
• 2:35
Yeah, I think when I, when I was building the, the single speed for potentially Single Speed USA, that was the bike that had that on it. [laughs] So I kept finding little chunks of vegan cheese all over it. Oh.
• 2:50
Got a video of that somewhere. It holds up. Yep. Yep. It's very hearty. Fun stuff. Yeah. Spinning the, the electric wheel in the- Schmutz... schmutz, vegan cheese. [laughs] Not realizing that Tony was behind me.
• 3:05
And then realizing it and then doing it again. [laughs] Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Oh, oh, sorry. So there's been a couple practice laps now of the 24. Yeah. You've been... You've done two? Done two.
• 3:18
Did he do the same exact route the second time? Yes, 'cause that's the route they would like people to try. Okay. But now, I, l- late yesterday evening, 'cause we're having a bonus practice lap...
• 3:30
Well, we had a bonus practice lap yesterday internet time. Um,
• 3:35
there's a different option, which is similar to yours except for you cut our down to the block north of Burleigh, which I can't remember what that's called even though I've lived here 30 years. Mm-hmm. Concordia?
• 3:53
Maybe. No. Concordia runs- Townsend? Uh, it's... No, it's, it's one block past Townsend. Two- Nobody know- Maybe two. No, two blocks... nobody knows what the hell you're talking about. Anyway. Anyway, so you cut- I know.
• 4:04
I, I don't even know what the hell you're talking about. You cut Humboldt there, um- There's something ab- there's something about the River West geography enigma- That you just get. You just know how to get there Yeah.
• 4:12
It's like left, right, left, left, you know? [laughs] So you'll turn, you'll turn and cross Humboldt there and approach checkpoint two from behind. That's a good idea. It's, it's a pretty darn good idea.
• 4:21
And I noticed- So that's gonna be in his practice lap tomorrow or yesterday...
• 4:23
I noticed that one of them, one of the streets that it dead ends into Humboldt, and then the sidewalk goes back between some buildings- Yeah...
• 4:31
to that same street, and I think that hits right where that grassy knoll is, and then you can get right on and go do the same thing. You can do the same thing, keep- Come in from checkpoint two from behind.
• 4:41
Oh, if you do the grassy section. Yep, yep, yep. Yeah. That, that was... As a, as a fun fact, that was year number one's first kind of official route. You did that. Oh.
• 4:50
Well, it's just like going over a curb, riding over, like- Yeah, it's nothing... yeah... it's a nice grassy- Few hundred feet of grass- Yeah... and then go off the curb and, yeah. And there's no cars. It's quiet.
• 4:58
It's- I just, it was a little c-... I, uh, it... So it's not the fastest way, it's just the recommended route. No. It's... Right. Okay. Right. Well, that's cool. I would- We just don't wanna die.
• 5:08
Yeah, just getting- And it's not a race... just getting used to the construction- Right... factor of that zone. Right. And by then, supposedly,
• 5:17
east side of Humboldt will be finished, and all the traffic will be on that, and you'll be on the west side of Humboldt. That's what they're claiming. Huh. Well, yeah. They can lay concrete pretty quick. We'll see.
• 5:28
Somehow, some way, like, when it comes to the 24- Yeah... whatever is happening somehow just quickly gets, you know, "Oh, let's just finish this quick." Yeah, let's get it done.
• 5:39
[laughs] That's how, uh, North Avenue got paved, like, asphalted, like, instantly, because Steve called his friend [laughs] and said, "Hey, there's gonna be a bike race. Can you get this covered?" And they...
• 5:47
It was done, like, two days before the, the race. [laughs] It was beautiful. Oh, yeah. When it, when it had the nice, fine- Totally smooth... yeah, it was like- That was awesome... on a... Oh, it was glassy.
• 5:56
Oh, you wanna have a couple days, otherwise it's kinda greasy too. Right. Especially if it rains the first day or two. Right. Oh, boy. All right, so the, so my, my point about Kief is that it's a light. Yep.
• 6:08
So that would make it safer than any other option except for- True that... Burlive. True that. Right? So, okay.
• 6:13
Um, anyhow, so if, if you're coming to the River West 24, you know, maybe find a local, maybe do a practice lap or two before you go out there because it's not the same as it has been in the past. It's better. Yeah.
• 6:28
I think it's, I think it's good. Hit me, hit me if you need a place to pitch a tent. [laughs] He said pitch a tent. My side, my side yard, my side yard's gonna probably have some tents in it. At the new crib?
• 6:37
The new crib. That sounds like a good idea, 'cause you have almost a whole extra lot there almost, don't you? It's a, it's a half. Yeah, but it's tent-sized. You could probably fit- Oh...
• 6:45
eight tents in there- Oh, easily... or 10 tents. Yeah. Easily. Yeah, so is that gonna be your headquarters then mostly? Yeah, for this year even though we don't have a bathroom yet. Or kitchen.
• 6:55
Well, that, I don't care about. I, I wanna poop. I don't care about eating. I can eat out of a cooler. So you're gonna headquarter- I can poop in the cooler... out of the old place then? No, I'll just go there to poop.
• 7:03
Okay. [laughs] And, and- No, no, no... and shower. You have to go to Bill and Erin's. You know, uh- Oh, yeah... 'cause they have the no, the no pooping- Yeah... rule.
• 7:12
[laughs] Except when you have to go, and then you- Except when you really have to go. Yeah, and then you apologize profusely- And then Kenny, Kenny-... as you leave. [laughs]... gets really mad.
• 7:19
I- Just bring a five-gallon bucket, and- No, just get a Land Potty, you know? No, it's not... No, it's, it's- [laughs] No, you gotta get the Land Potty so you never have to breathe. It will be a fun time.
• 7:27
I have a feeling there'll be lots of excitement. Yeah, for sure. Well, it's only a couple of weeks away, so. Working on our bonus checkpoint. We'll discuss it after this, uh- There's-... cast... there's two more.
• 7:40
Besides the bonus, there's two more practice laps, right? Yep, yep. Yep. And next Wednesday we'll have the special guest on the podcast, which will be Corey from the River West 24 to give a little bit of insight.
• 7:53
Right on. Maybe I can have this, uh, new podcast room table made by then- Ah... because, or get the old one down here, 'cause- Th- th-... this is gonna be crowded with four people in here.
• 8:02
Yeah, but if he brings beer, we're fine. Yeah. Well, that's probably true. Right on. In case he's listening tonight, you know, we don't- Yeah. Hey, Corey.
• 8:10
So in, in my perusing of the interwebs, which I don't do all that often anymore, I was on the Book Face for some reason, and saw that, this was posted on July 9th, so a couple days ago, that Big Sexy wished happy birthday to the best tricycle in the whole world,
• 8:29
Heather the tricycle. Uh, three years and still rolling, 36 states, just about 18,000 miles, and 32 state capital buildings. [laughs] There, I'll guarantee you that's a Guinness Book w- world record of that tricycle.
• 8:43
Oh, for sure, of that model tricycle- Yeah, yeah... of that, yeah, that's just- There, there's just no way. It, it's probably more than all the other ones of those combined. That could be true. I mean, come on.
• 8:53
Yeah, it's possible. I mean, the- How many times do you peruse Craigslist and see tricycles for sale because, I hate to say this, but someone's grandparents died, [laughs] and it was put on the curb? Yeah.
• 9:04
Well, like the one that we got that we made the fat bike trike out of- Yeah, that- Well, i- if they had one of those models, it just bent in half and they all got thrown away probably. Right, right.
• 9:13
So, [laughs] Recycled. Recycled, but, uh- It's aluminum... yeah, and- Aluminum... uh, credit to Big Sexy, 'cause that is, uh, I could not do that. I think that's credit to Heather, but yeah. Maybe.
• 9:25
Keeps him from falling down. You're right. But, uh, yeah, I, having ridden that, Heather, which is kind of... Sorry. I, I rode it- Sorry, Big Sexy... about around the corner from Bremen and brought it back.
• 9:37
I'm like, "Oh, no." [laughs] Yep. Oh, no. Same here. Yeah. I think, I think you did it, then I did it. Yeah. Like, "Oh, no." I, I rode it up, like I rode it up Bremen maybe past the church about a half a block and- Yeah.
• 9:47
Oh, I didn't even get that far... turned around and went, "Nah." Yeah. I, I, I essentially got to, like, Clark Foods, which is- Somebody- Yeah, me too...
• 9:52
I don't- Like just kitty-corner from, [laughs] like ding, ding, ding. Yeah. Somebody burned around the block on it, but I, I don't remember who it was. That person be a fool.
• 9:59
Well, that person was like, "I'm gonna see how this thing goes." Oh, I did. I went down the, uh, I took it... I was gonna turn around, but I couldn't turn around, [laughs] so- Does not turn well...
• 10:08
so I just went in the alley, and then went long and came back down whatever that is. Not right. Oh, okay, so you did that. All right. Forgot. Well, anyway, happy- Kind of forgot about that... happy birthday, Heather.
• 10:18
Uh- I was kinda in the spirit world [laughs] around that time. Take, take care of our, our friend Big Sexy. BS. Yes.
• 10:29
[laughs] Uh, did, did either of you guys go to s- officially go to Summerfest, or did you just- Mm-mm... poach Summerfest? Yes and yes. Okay. Yes and yes. No and no. Well, you were on grounds on Thursday, right?
• 10:43
For the Tubes. For the Tubes. Yeah. Yeah. I was poaching that show. Which I, I, so I was kinda looking around back there for you. I was like, "Where is he at?"
• 10:51
And I didn't realize how even better than I thought it was it was to poach that stage. Hell yeah. Yeah. Hell yeah, especially for early shows. Jesus. Yeah.
• 10:59
Except for the, like, insane fog bank that, like it was just- Came in for that show... oh my God. It was like, it was a cloud. Well, it was like a- Right on top of us...
• 11:08
it was like a nonstop special effect with a cloud going- Yeah. It was really, it was something else. It was perfect for the band because it- Yeah...
• 11:14
w- it, it felt a lot like San Francisco, which is where The Tubes are from. So, I know, did we, did you see the whole show? I missed the opening, of course. "She's a Beauty" was the opening. "She's a Beauty", yeah.
• 11:25
Which is probably- You are a beautiful woman... okay because it took them a few songs to really get going. Oh. You know, I mean- How old are they?
• 11:32
I mean- Uh, the, the band started in, like, '74, so they're late 60s, early 70s- Ah... just like every other band that I've- Good grief... yeah, right. [laughs] Um, and so I thought- Them white punks on dope.
• 11:44
White punks on some- So I thought-... white acid... when he came out in the Elvis-looking outfit that that's when it kinda switched gears, 'cause that was, he did that, whatever that was, great.
• 11:53
I really didn't see anything- And-... close up of anything. I- Yeah, he did a bunch of costume changes... I noticed something in a, was it, was it a white suit? Black with black shades. Okay. 'Cause I just saw- Yeah...
• 12:03
kinda shapes through the fog. [laughs] Yeah, so I, you know, and it- Yeah...
• 12:06
it was in the middle of the afternoon, and these guys, I've, typically when I've seen them it's, it's been in a club or it's been in a small venue, but they had a really good show in the past.
• 12:15
They did, with the lighting and the costume changes and the-... or whatever, but, um, it was good to see him. I- it's been like 20 years since I saw him Yeah. I heard Rod Stewart was downright horrible. Really?
• 12:27
I bet Cheap Trick that opened for Rod Stewart was probably the best show there. Yeah, probably one of them. [laughs] Yeah, I wasn't gonna pay 125 bucks to see Cheap Trick, unfortunately. No.
• 12:37
'Cause I would've walked as soon as Rod Stewart was out, but I, I would've liked to have seen him 20 years ago, but, mm. Yeah, agreed. Agreed. Probably not now, I guess. I don't know.
• 12:46
I don't wanna ruin stuff that's- But he's forever young. Yeah. Well, that's... [laughs] I got nowhere, I, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Did anybody bring any beer? Oh, my.
• 12:58
There's beer in that cooler right behind you. Oh. [bottle clinking] Here, I'll, I'll turn Tony down so he can go, uh- Thank you... go, he's at the top of the hill. He's reaching into the saddle bag, uh, or the, uh- Ooh.
• 13:08
Oh... the, the pannier. Oh, look it. It's like Christmas. Oh. He's so excited. [laughs] Um, what... Okay, so JK brought this. It is a four-pack. I like that... Not that one, the one with the,
• 13:20
like, Grateful Dead looking colors on it. What the hell is that? Rolling- This is, so w-... Rolling Papers? See, okay, I, I, I tend to gravitate towards the variety pack, just 'cause- Yeah, no, makes sense...
• 13:31
uh, well, for, for sh- I usually get all one brewery... for, but this is, like, the variety-variety pack. So, instead of it being three of each kind of beer, or like three versions of, say, Sierra Nevada- Right, sure...
• 13:45
or Surly or something like that, these are three different breweries from three diff- or, I mean, I'm sorry, four different breweries from four different states. [laughs] Of three cans per. Three cans per on it.
• 13:57
But it, but it is, it does have the common theme that they're IPAs. Yeah, and, and I think it's from- So, we're not getting a ghost from one and a- Right, right...
• 14:03
and a porter from another and- They're all hazies, I believe... you know. Oh, this is sunny? More- What the hell's this? Hazy Enough. Manic. Confidence. Hazy Enough, India Pale Ale. Sunny and Juicy.
• 14:17
With notes of fruit punch and sweet bitterness. Oh, Tony wants me to turn it back on. Has he got something to say over there, I guess? I was... JK beat me to it now. Just turn my volume down. I'm hurt. [laughs] I'm hurt.
• 14:29
Let's open this and drink it. Well, it's 7.5. It's a sunny and juicy IPA with notes of fruit punch and sweet bitterness. Did we already say that? Oh, nice. 7.5. From Deep Ellum Brewing Company in Dallas, Texas.
• 14:40
Okay, that was, that was my last thing. Oh, Texas. Ooh, that's cool as hell. I just noticed that. I'll mess with Texas. I was getting really with the confidence
• 14:47
that was really mesmerizing me, and I didn't even notice- Yeah... this cool artwork on here. I know why it's mesmerizing me. [laughs] My g- my- I'll, I'll mesmerize you...
• 14:56
my goodness, that was very strong pre-game shampoo. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, Shea, yeah. What, uh, what's going on? Uh, is it, what's happening on your- It's hurting... shirt over there with the black dots?
• 15:10
Like- It's hurting. Hey, man, you designed the shirt. [laughs] And I know. It, it always kinda throws me off, too. [laughs] No, it's a, yeah, it's 2019 Steel Is Real shirt. Yolo. Mm-hmm. Huh. All right.
• 15:23
Well, I don't know. Uh, you've- I opted for long sleeves... had it for a few years, right? Oh, yeah. I opted for long sleeves. But it, yeah, I mean, those were very bright darks. Were they there originally? Yeah. Oh.
• 15:34
I didn't, like, draw them in. [laughs] Well, well, I don't know. I thought maybe it, maybe it wore off, and it's, it's the black shirt underneath. I don't know. No. It's my- Yeah. Oh... my upper nipples. All right.
• 15:43
Well, there you go. The upper black nipples. Still, uh, Steel Is... You can buy those Steel Is Real shirts at Everyday Cycles still if you really want one.
• 15:49
I actually made some of that, some of those shirts without the date on it just because Steel Is Real no matter what the year. Right. Ta-da. Or day. And speaking of the Summerfest, I did make it down. It was a grudge.
• 16:04
I did make it on the grounds simply because it was not a Portugal show. [laughs] That was the only reason. For the Cult? Uh, for the Cult. I- Yeah. Good? And that, I'm glad I went. Let's put it that way. Okay, good.
• 16:15
I'm not gonna say good. [laughs] I'm not gonna because, okay, I spent all day at, um, Bremen Fest, Bremen Bazaar- Right... and whatever. Or Block Party. Yeah. I mean- Which was fun. We have to talk about that, too...
• 16:26
there was, we are talking about it. I don't 'cause I wasn't there. Well, we are. I was. We were. So- All right. Well, talk amongst yourselves... so I got there for, at the beginning of Aluminum, Aluminum Nunni. Yep.
• 16:38
Uh, there were two or three before that. Uh, Jesse Guten, I know. I was wanting to, but I didn't wanna start my day at 1:00 and know that I had to get down to Summerfest at 10:00.
• 16:47
[laughs] So, it was- Yeah, that's a, that's a big ask... it was a pace, it was a pacing of the self. Yeah. So, it was like 3:00. Yeah. I wanted to see them. After them was, uh, Hawk Is A Weapon,
• 16:58
um, James and Joes, and- Right... that guy... one of our, one of our building mates. Most all of them are b- building mates, actually. Yeah. And then- That Casper's outside working on his Ducati right now.
• 17:08
Right, yeah, I know. [laughs] I was, I was having a smoke and- He's got, like, this old super beater sh- I don't know if it's a Bl- I think it's a Silverado pickup truck, and then he's got a Ducati.
• 17:16
[laughs] [laughs] Priorities, people. Yeah. Priorities. Right, right. Exactly. So then, it, and then right after that was El Rancho. Okay, yeah, all right.
• 17:27
I was gonna, like, just peel away and take a break and get my shit together and then come back for, uh, Owen and Bijou's band. Harry's in a band. Aaron's in a band. In a different band. Oh, yeah, The Bell Ends.
• 17:41
[laughs] Is that the name of the band? Yeah. Actually ran into Owen today at, uh, Home Depot. Ah, ha. Was he in a band? He was just in the checkout line. [laughs] I think that's the name of their new band.
• 17:51
Uh, and they're playing at, uh, Ca- Catalano, Catalano Square- Okay... coming up in, like, a week or something. Oh. It's, or two. It's the 23rd. It might even be a weeknight. Cool.
• 18:02
I don't know, but they're playing, which I think is at the end of the street in the Third Ward, which is where- Yeah... all the Chicago people hang out. Yeah. Yep, yep, yep. So, that'll be good.
• 18:08
Then they can piss those people off. Right. Yeah. Okay, that's good. Awesome. And they're playing, uh, Center Street Day at the Quarter's outdoor stage. Oh, there you go. Oh, right on. So, I, I did notice that.
• 18:17
Yeah, that's beside the- So, I was like, I wanna check- What is this?... all of these. That's in August. Um- I'm like, I wanna check out- We'll have to put that on the shit worth doing... and I, I was like, oh my God.
• 18:25
Well, the drinks are still flowing, and I'm like, [sighs] okay, I'm gonna run home, swap bikes, swap- drop my backpack, economize whatever I have to go on. I'm going in.
• 18:37
What'd you take the Summerfest bike, like the purple single speed or something? [laughs] Yeah, yeah. [laughs] Exactly that. The second one, you know. The unwantable, unstealable- [laughs] Yeah...
• 18:45
unrideable, unless you know the tricks. Yeah. [laughs] So I take that down there. Well, and before, somebody had, uh, one of the, um, [clicks tongue] wristbands. Got you a little closer apparently, I don't know,
• 19:00
weird deck stuff. Um- Yeah, you just get to be in, like, the, in front of all the less important people. Yeah. Oh. Yeah, we're like, "Ooh." Like me?
• 19:08
Well, and, but there's, like, the little thingamajig, but I lost the little thingamajig, [laughs] so I just used Scotch tape and just [laughs] wrapped the shit out of it and had it right by my wristband.
• 19:21
[laughs] Like you- I didn't really need to be that damn close. Well, like, you could've cut it off somebody else's wrist and- Yeah. Yeah. Completely. You- And, but I was like, uh...
• 19:30
And then I was just waiting for- Like, so did you? Yeah, went in there. No. Well, it was funny 'cause people were like- Are you-...
• 19:35
really trying to get in badly, and then, like, security is, like, ushering them out, and I'm, like, well in the scrum. I'm like, "Hey, I'm good." [laughs] "Yeah, you're good." [laughs] I'm like...
• 19:44
Well, when you act like you know you're supposed to be there- [laughs] Yeah... then- They'll totally think you're supposed to be there... it's better than making a big production out of it, that's for sure.
• 19:50
I, I got close enough and I got, you know, the flavor. That's all I needed. Yeah. And then- Cleon... get me on the other side. It was a, kind of a janky performance, but- Cleon... the thing was, Ian Astbury was [laughs]
• 20:02
to me, my impression was, he was performing like he had spent the day like me. [laughs] Oh. [laughs] You know? Like, like- Oh, good...
• 20:12
it's like, "Hey, I'm gonna start up at 3:00, and but I'm gonna marshal myself 'cause I gotta go on stage at 10:" kind of thing.
• 20:19
[laughs] And then- So I felt like I was in kind of the same boat, [laughs] and I'm just like, yeah, man, he's kinda screwing the lyrics up, kind of doing his own, like- I, they just-... remix version.
• 20:27
[laughs] Yeah, do they... I didn't know they were playing together again, so. No shit. I know. I was like, I, I gotta- Yeah... I gotta check it out, so. Cleon said a couple of- I did it...
• 20:35
uh, young boys tried to scam her trying to get into the Machine Gun Kelly show by- Oh, God... by saying, um, you know, she, "My, my mom has the ticket," you know. "My mom has the ticket in her purse," and- Yeah...
• 20:50
Cleon's like, "No" It's my cousin's ticket, man. You know? Ah, you know. And Cle- like, two kids. Cleon's like, "No, not working, kids" Yeah... and sent 'em away, which is awesome. Yeah. Oh, is she a ticket taker?
• 21:01
She was a s- like, the scanner person. Oh, okay. Do, do, do, do, do. I thought she was working in the ticket office selling tickets. No. No, no, no, she was working, um, she worked the amphitheater actually.
• 21:10
Oh, right on. That was... So she got actually some extra hours, and you know how many times she rode that bass boat, that beautiful bass boat down to Summerfest? Yeah. None. Zero. That's what I'm thinking.
• 21:22
[laughs] I, you know- Sydney did, well- It's this close to being Tony's bass boat. Yeah.
• 21:25
[laughs] Syd- Sydney did not ride down at all either, but she had to be there at, like, 7:00 in the morning, which she probably could have even ridden to, but then she didn't get off till 11:00 or 12:00 at night. Mm-hmm.
• 21:35
And she wa- it's... So either w- well, I took her down there a few times. That's a lot of day. Wendy, Wendy picked her up most nights 'cause, you know, I'm usually sleeping by 10:00. [laughs] Right. I'm dead long since.
• 21:45
Those people are up all night long anyway over there. Yeah, so, um, while you, so when you were, JK, when you were poaching the Tube show, is that when you ran into Milverine? [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nice.
• 21:58
I didn't, I had not seen him all summer, so. It was, yeah, it was a- actually right towards the end of it or as it was wrapping up. And, and just look over to the side, and he's got a gate, you know- Yeah, he has...
• 22:10
like, you kinda see it coming at you, and it's like, oh, oh, oh. So he's pretty, pretty am- amicable, amenable to, uh- Taking a pi- oh... having a picture with him? Yeah, you're darn right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
• 22:20
I know. That's why I was like, I took the picture. Yeah. I was like, oh, stern. [laughs] Look stern. I have to 'cause I know he will. Yeah, right. [laughs] It's not gonna be like, "Oh, you" kinda picture.
• 22:29
[laughs] Well, I, you so, I, I do have that selfie, so if you wanna... In fact, that might even be the cover photo. [laughs] JK spots Milverine in Milwaukee. Da, da, da. Yeah. And the thing was, I had r- I'd seen him
• 22:44
in, uh, Greendale at Southridge Mall. I mean, granted, it was weird that I was at Southridge Mall waiting [laughs] for a ride for my cousin. [laughs] Let alone that all of a sudden- There's Milverine. Yeah.
• 23:00
[laughs] Was that, like, recently? Yeah. Oh, okay. Like, like, days before that. All right. 'Cause I haven't seen him all year. And then I was just like, I was like, "Joseph-" You've been at Southridge Mall, like, s-
• 23:09
recently? Yeah. Yeah, I've been there recently too, like 12 years ago. Right. I- Well-... I, I think I've been there once in my life. It's a, it's a pivot point. It was a pivot point for...
• 23:18
I, I had to take the 14 all the way out. I think it was the 14. Yeah, the 14. Um, and it ends near Southridge, and then the ride I was getting picked me up there. Oh, copy that.
• 23:31
So I mean, there were, that was the ma- I wasn't really hanging out mall rat and shopping. [laughs] I used to work there, man. I used to be the mall rat. Yeah, now, well, I remember when Northridge- Babbage...
• 23:40
was okay to go to, and that's- Yeah... not even Milverine... Babbage, Suncoast M- Have you ever seen the, uh- Suncoast Movie Company?... Christmas drone video the dude shot? Like, after it was all closed?
• 23:50
He, yeah, yeah, he- Sorta urban, uh, urban spelunking. Well, he's got that drone that can actually lift him. Oh, get outta here. Yeah, yeah, it's real professional. What the hell?
• 23:58
Yeah, he does a Christmas video there, and, and it's all closed and- Inside? Yeah. Do you think he did it clandestine? He got permission to do it. Oh, okay. He, he paid for it. Oh, right on.
• 24:08
'Cause, uh, there's a few people who are no longer with us named Craig that used to go in there all the time. Yep. When it was abandoned? Yeah. Yeah.
• 24:15
He'd just wear, like, a, like, a, he'd wear, like, a utility guy's outfit with a vest on and, you know. And they'd just let him walk right in? Just, well, there's no real security there. So cameras- There wasn't...
• 24:26
could see you. Yeah. They think you're just a worker? Maybe. I don't know. Yeah. I don't think he ever got seriously hassled though. He got, he got close that one- Yeah... where you could hear like, "Hey, you."
• 24:35
[laughs] [laughs] Then he started, like, running, and somebody had broke- Ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta But it wasn't- One, one end of it so you could climb out of, like, the little geodesic dome- And scurry through that...
• 24:49
kind of. Yeah So this is, so I, for- And then jump-... people that don't know, like- And then jump on a tree- Yeah... and skimmy down the tree. [laughs] Right. It was a really fucked up video, man. Yeah.
• 24:57
I mean, [laughs] I was like, "Dude." For, right. Well, he tried to talk me into going to Detroit with him- Oh... to do the same shit. I'm like, "Uh, no." Yeah, that's dangerous in Detroit.
• 25:04
I don't think that, I mean- Get yourself killed... a lot of those places are gang, you know- Yeah... totally controlled. He thought I, he thought I, I would be, [laughs] I would be good at the wordsmithing. Oh, okay.
• 25:14
Like, "Hey, what are you guys doing here? Oh, how you guys doing? Da, da, da, da, da." You know, just getting a fucking- Yeah... character. I don't know. I don't know.
• 25:21
I, I- I didn't, he had more faith in that of me than I did of me. [laughs] Yeah, I know. Between that, [laughs] let's put it that way. There was a snowboard video out of a bunch of, you know, young punk- Yeah...
• 25:31
snowboard kids that were in the old Packard factory or something- Yeah... and snow, making ramps and shit, and then there was a big conglomeration of black SUVs out in the parking lot that were not federal government.
• 25:44
They- [laughs] Right... [laughs] and I think they asked for a tariff or a, or a tax or something probably. You know, it's like- To let them shoot, finish shooting the video and get out alive. Yeah, right?
• 25:54
So, um, anyway, yeah. So that's that. Anybody going to Flaugh Tog tomorrow? Thinking about it. Yeah. It looks pretty fun. And Dave wants to... He's got this idea of- I don't wanna get that terribly close.
• 26:07
[laughs] I don't, I wanna stay, like, on the side of Veterans Park somewhere. Mm-hmm. I just wanna watch it from a distance. So I don't know the exact l- Is, are they live?... exact launch point.
• 26:15
Is it- I don't know either. Apparently- I th-... building the ramp right now. I think it's somewhere between the, like, where you come to the end of the road and go straight- I-... I think is about where it is.
• 26:25
I am, I am, I am the art museum-facing- That's where I'm guessing too... Lake, Lake Michigan. Right. But they have the other one- It's coming in- From Veterans Park like this- Oh, okay... into that breakwater area.
• 26:38
Right in front of the art museum is- Yeah... a landing zone kinda? Okay. Yeah. Yep. That's gonna make for some gorgeous photos for Red Bull to make money off of.
• 26:44
Yeah, but not that great for spectating because then you got the fucking museum right there. I, I, you can get on that side. I think if you're on that side- Yeah... peninsula to the north, you might get a good- Yeah...
• 26:52
pretty good view. Also speaking of the weekend, El Bastille, storming the Bastille- Storming tomorrow-... was last night... or yesterday. Yeah. But they're, uh, they're not doing Bastille Days though, are they?
• 27:02
Oh, yes they are. Nice. Full-blown, full-blown baby. Oh, well, at least for the first night, I predict that they will shut it down [laughs] after the first night. Well, let, let's put it, let- Maybe...
• 27:09
let me put it this way. Um, uh, for Weenie Wednesday down at the Door, my normal flight plan, you've been on it, ding, ding, ding, to get back. Couldn't do it. Oh, yeah, I could do it- Oh...
• 27:21
'cause they're loading in and- Ah... getting set up, and I don't care. I'm out on my bicycle. [laughs] I know you, whatever. I'm just getting mean bugged by all the vendors. [laughs] It was pretty damn funny.
• 27:34
Well, you get a, get a chance to- It's not even open today yet. Mm-mm. It's, they're getting set up. That's the thing. No, it's like a couple days ago. And tonight's the WMSE auction. I'm excited for that.
• 27:43
I st- I'm still the only bidder on the one that I want, so. Which one is it so I can buy that one? I'm not telling. I'm not gonna tell you. Ah. I showed Molly von Munzes, which I really want.
• 27:52
She's like, "I don't like it." And I'm like, "Shit." I know. I gotta see which one it is. I saw- It's cool... so one of them is, these are- Moceliz...
• 27:58
just real quick, what these are is, like, a album cover-sized piece of wood that are, is given to an, the artist, and there's probably 70 or 80 this year. I don't think it's- And then there's- So they then- Oh...
• 28:11
then use that piece of wood, and they can do whatever they want with it, and most people just do some kinda painting on it or drawing or- Drawing... drawing or whatever. I'm looking.
• 28:21
But last year, I bought a piece that the guy- She's looking... used it as the base for a sculpture. So I was like, "Oh, that's pretty cool." Yeah, it was pretty cool. It is pretty cool.
• 28:26
And people attach shit to them too. Which is legit. So it's not like you just have to, it's not just painting on it. But I found one this year that I like if I, if I don't have to go nuts.
• 28:36
Last year, the problem I made was there was three from the same guy that- Oh... I kinda liked, so I had to bid on all of them, and none of them got beat. I'm like, "Damn it, I really only wanted one of them."
• 28:47
[laughs] But now I got a collection. Well, I got the- I got three pieces from this guy. There you go. That's a collection right there. I, I had a fight with DJ4Eyes. I got the Joey. I got the Joey last year.
• 28:56
Oh, yeah, that was last time. I had- Yeah. Yep. I got that Joey. I had 4Eyes battle someone- [laughs]... kept, I waited until, like, the last two minutes before I threw my final bid in.
• 29:05
Yeah, I'm gonna have to pay attention 'cause there's, a- as of right now, there's probably, what, s- six or eight hours left if we're talking Friday time. Right.
• 29:14
Yeah, so anyway, uh, finally, I think, because we don't have to do this any longer than necessary, uh, w- our favorite secret in the area has been exposed. Yes. And I- I did not read the article yet.
• 29:28
Well, I know it was gonna happen that- I may have run out of my free articles a run ago. [laughs] Me too. [laughs] I did too. The fiends. From, from JS Online. Oh, and by the way,
• 29:38
f- [laughs] fuck you JS Online in the first place because once you actually subscribe, do you know how absolutely difficult it is to officially cancel, cancel, cancel- Mm-hmm... and not get charged- Oh, yeah...
• 29:50
charged, charged? Everybody does that though. Oh, oh, oh, oh. It's a common tactic- I f-... among the subscription set... finally, finally figured out how to get it off, but I still get the damn robocalls from them.
• 30:00
I'm like- Well, you just tell the-... "Oh, get the hell away from me"... tell the credit card company to just cancel that shit. Yep. Uh, yeah. Um, so anyway- I just had to get my rant off...
• 30:07
what, what we're talking about though is, uh- [laughs]... it's ca- it's called Beer Alley. It's behind Amorphic in between the Amorphic building and the one next door, and it is really kickass. It's gorgeous.
• 30:17
As a matter of fact, right after the show- We're probably gonna go there... we're probably gonna go over there, have one beer. Yeah. Not the three that I had yesterday 'cause- See? I left at the right time.
• 30:25
Yep, Tony was the responsible one. Well, I planned on having two and then just that next one too also. Happiness. Well, yeah, that, that, that, that, uh, what, Space Monkey Force? Fluffy Logic? No, no, no. No?
• 30:39
No, the new one. Oh, the other one, the new one. Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty good. I might have that tonight. Uh, I forget what it's called. It was good. It was very good.
• 30:46
It was, eh, not, I mean, it was pretty high-powered, but- Yeah... high-powered enough. All right. Well, thank you folks for listening to our week on bikes and not on bikes.
• 30:59
[laughs] Stick into next week's- I rode my bike, uh-... Live Royals 24 edition... to all the things we talked about. Yeah. You did. You did. Uh, every one of them. Every one of them. Every last- Oh, I know...
• 31:07
one of them. All right, later peoples. For you- Get, uh, we're outta here... right now, right now, right now. [upbeat music] Down, down, down, down, down
