- 0:51Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 0:53Welcome to Sunday.
- 0:59what is going on everybody welcome to
- 1:02sunday sunday sunday night crossfit talk
- 1:07we are two we're about to be three
- 1:11uh carolyn is just finishing up dinner
- 1:13being polite doing that off camera
- 1:16She'll be here soon.
- 1:19It's another week.
- 1:20I'm sitting here thinking, like,
- 1:22is there going to be a week, like,
- 1:23that we can just take off because
- 1:24nothing's happening?
- 1:25No.
- 1:25And then it's like CrossFit.
- 1:28It's as bad as the NFL.
- 1:29Like, it is every week.
- 1:36Yeah.
- 1:37Well, the CAC's busy, so that's good.
- 1:39Yeah.
- 1:40Yeah.
- 1:42um patrick clark just finished season two
- 1:44we were literally just talking about
- 1:46season two of lioness before we went on
- 1:49the air sure and i watched the first
- 1:53episode of season three this week which
- 1:56was phenomenal i haven't seen any is what
- 2:01we're talking about so yeah jamie has not
- 2:04seen it at all
- 2:08um so yeah crazy stuff it's it's but
- 2:12it is it is one of those shows
- 2:14that make you think and so like i
- 2:17like pairing that with like the hawk which
- 2:20is no think yeah we finished that did
- 2:24you finish it i haven't finished it yet
- 2:25but i'm maybe six episodes in okay
- 2:29wherever it's when he well i don't want
- 2:31to ruin anything
- 2:33Yeah.
- 2:34Easy watch.
- 2:37Yeah.
- 2:38And we started Ted Lasso this week.
- 2:41That's back.
- 2:43And then we finished Ride or Die.
- 2:45If you have not seen that on Prime...
- 2:48It is so good.
- 2:49It's Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso and
- 2:51Octavia Spencer and their best friends.
- 2:54And in the first fifteen minutes,
- 2:56you learn that Hannah Waddingham is a
- 2:58trained assassin and she's been hiding it
- 3:00from her best friend for twenty years.
- 3:02Yes, I saw the previews for this.
- 3:05And so it starts off as a very
- 3:08funny concept, right?
- 3:10Yeah.
- 3:10But it turns into a great,
- 3:12well-written spy.
- 3:14Okay.
- 3:15Series by the end.
- 3:18So highly recommend ride or die.
- 3:21We like,
- 3:22I was on the edge of my seat.
- 3:24Okay.
- 3:25We binged four episodes last night and
- 3:27today to finish it off.
- 3:30So good.
- 3:33Katie L says Jamie doesn't need to watch
- 3:35lioness.
- 3:35She is a lioness.
- 3:37Well, dang.
- 3:42Drew says bears going down against the
- 3:43pack.
- 3:45Well,
- 3:45my wife and I were figuring out our
- 3:47plans.
- 3:47We have tickets to the first bears Packers
- 3:51game in Lambeau field because of a great
- 3:53listener, Eric Mackey.
- 3:56And we're trying to figure out whether to
- 3:57fly or drive.
- 3:59And we're trying to price it all out
- 4:01and figuring out what is the most
- 4:03economical and what is like the easiest.
- 4:06There's no direct flight from Columbus to
- 4:08Milwaukee.
- 4:09Really?
- 4:09Can you believe that?
- 4:11Not really.
- 4:12So then we tried Chicago and then rent
- 4:14a car because it's only like an hour
- 4:15north.
- 4:16Yeah.
- 4:17And we're meeting Eric in Milwaukee and
- 4:19we're riding up with him to Green Bay.
- 4:22Okay.
- 4:23Yeah.
- 4:25And there's only a couple direct flights
- 4:28from Columbus to Chicago now,
- 4:31which baffles me.
- 4:33It used to be a direct flight all
- 4:34the time.
- 4:36Yeah.
- 4:39Because it's only a six-hour drive,
- 4:41so it should be just a quick...
- 4:44I don't want to go to Detroit before
- 4:45I go to Chicago.
- 4:46No, I wouldn't either.
- 4:47Yeah, that's...
- 4:51I feel like I had three stops on
- 4:52the way to California.
- 4:55It was a pain.
- 4:57If it was three stops,
- 4:58I'd just cancel my trip.
- 5:01I guess I could have done that.
- 5:04I did one stop to California.
- 5:06That was enough.
- 5:10But you fly out of a smaller airport,
- 5:11right?
- 5:12Grand Rapids?
- 5:13I usually fly out of Grand Rapids.
- 5:16I got really lucky flying out of Lansing
- 5:18and actually did get a
- 5:20I think a one-stop when I went to,
- 5:23um, Del Mar, I think,
- 5:27I think it went Lansing to Detroit and
- 5:30straight over to,
- 5:31and it's usually really hard to get
- 5:33flights out of Lansing.
- 5:35Yeah.
- 5:35I was Minnesota to the shirt.
- 5:41Tessa wants to see the shirt.
- 5:43I'm so proud of the shirts.
- 5:44They came out so nice.
- 5:51Jamie says it's a good fit.
- 5:53Yeah, perfect fit.
- 5:55Nice and soft.
- 5:58If you want yours or thirty dollars,
- 6:00you just Venmo me.
- 6:03Vicky had to take the night off because
- 6:05her husband's leaving town for a while.
- 6:07So just go to my Instagram.
- 6:10There's a Venmo thing there.
- 6:12Thirty two dollars.
- 6:13Just put your size, name,
- 6:14address in the comment section and I'll
- 6:17ship ship them out.
- 6:18And I just got a couple orders today,
- 6:20so I'll probably do another shipment
- 6:22tomorrow or Tuesday.
- 6:27A definite master show talking about
- 6:28airports next up.
- 6:29Which highway did you take?
- 6:32Yeah.
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:34Masters.
- 6:35Speaking of masters,
- 6:36I had my twenty five year high school
- 6:38reunion yesterday.
- 6:43OK.
- 6:47Yeah.
- 6:49Wow.
- 6:50That makes me feel old.
- 6:53Not very many people came at all.
- 6:55yeah i graduated with like two hundred
- 6:56fifty people there was like twelve or
- 6:58thirteen of us there crazy um kdl i
- 7:05wore my cloud snow shirt to work lunch
- 7:07to a work lunch the other dude's reaction
- 7:09no lie was wowed the lap you are
- 7:11more jacked than i thought i gave the
- 7:13shirt all the credit hey if you want
- 7:16to look jack too
- 7:20You can order a shirt as well.
- 7:24Larry Young's already wanting another
- 7:25color.
- 7:26Oh.
- 7:30You know how long it took me to
- 7:31get these in?
- 7:33And I still have like a bunch of
- 7:35them.
- 7:37And thank goodness I did inventory of the
- 7:39whole thing.
- 7:39And the ones that are being ordered the
- 7:43most are the sizes I ordered the most
- 7:45of.
- 7:47Perfect.
- 7:47So we're doing well.
- 7:51CrossFit keeps making fun of us.
- 7:53I know.
- 7:55So I did want to say,
- 7:56before we get into the CrossFit stuff,
- 7:59I watched Supergirl on Friday night.
- 8:01Yeah.
- 8:02I really enjoyed it.
- 8:05Really.
- 8:05I think because the bar was set so
- 8:08low by the critics and what everybody was
- 8:10saying about it,
- 8:11I went with zero expectation.
- 8:14And I just really enjoyed it as a
- 8:16fun movie.
- 8:19it's not going to win any Academy awards
- 8:20and that's fine.
- 8:21It just was fun.
- 8:23Okay.
- 8:25If you want to see super girl kick
- 8:27people's ass for an hour and a half,
- 8:30it's a good movie.
- 8:34And Jason Momoa as Lobo was fantastic.
- 8:40I feel like the critics are always wrong.
- 8:42Uh, I wouldn't say always wrong, but I,
- 8:47I,
- 8:49not everything has to be an Academy award
- 8:51winning movie.
- 8:52Correct.
- 8:53Right.
- 8:54And some of the stuff they like as
- 8:56Academy award winning.
- 8:56I'm like, that was weird.
- 8:57No, thanks.
- 8:59Yeah.
- 9:02Jason Momoa basically paid,
- 9:04played Jason Momoa,
- 9:05but that's who Lobo is.
- 9:06So it was like, perfect.
- 9:09It's like Kevin Costner has ever played
- 9:11anybody, but Kevin Costner.
- 9:13Yeah.
- 9:15Whether it's Bull Durham for Love of the
- 9:17Game, Dancing with Wolves,
- 9:19it's the same damn character in every
- 9:21movie.
- 9:27CrossFit says it's fine.
- 9:28Masters of the Universe was better,
- 9:29but similar ride.
- 9:31I have that in my queue.
- 9:32I don't think I've seen that either.
- 9:36It just came out.
- 9:38I think it only lasted in theaters a
- 9:39couple weeks.
- 9:40Okay.
- 9:45The issue is that everybody is comparing
- 9:47the DCU to the MCU.
- 9:49And for those of you who don't speak
- 9:51geek,
- 9:52that is DC Comics versus Marvel Comics.
- 9:58The Marvel Comics were much better off the
- 10:00bat with making movies other than the Dark
- 10:03Knight series with Batman and then the
- 10:06DCU.
- 10:08So he is correct.
- 10:11But this was fun.
- 10:13I really, really enjoyed it.
- 10:18Matt Damon also plays himself.
- 10:21Maybe.
- 10:24Maybe.
- 10:27We watched the Ben Affleck,
- 10:31not Matt Damon,
- 10:31but we watched The Accountant two weeks
- 10:35ago.
- 10:35I like both Accountant movies a lot.
- 10:40Yeah, they're great.
- 10:41I'm a huge Ben Affleck fan.
- 10:45I know that's not cool to be a
- 10:46Ben Affleck fan,
- 10:47but Argo was one of the best movies
- 10:49I've ever seen.
- 10:54Good Will Hunting is an all-time classic
- 10:57movie.
- 11:01Lex wants to know if we've seen The
- 11:02Odyssey.
- 11:03I have not.
- 11:04I do not believe that I have.
- 11:06It, again, just came out,
- 11:08so I'm assuming no.
- 11:09Then no.
- 11:11That's a Matt Damon, and it's a long,
- 11:15long movie.
- 11:15Okay.
- 11:18Like,
- 11:18you have to go on an Odyssey to
- 11:19watch the Odyssey.
- 11:20Okay.
- 11:25Is it like The Martian?
- 11:27It is longer than The Martian.
- 11:29Okay.
- 11:29Yeah.
- 11:32i think it's the same guy who did
- 11:34oppenheimer and actually who did the dark
- 11:36knight movies for dc um christopher nolan
- 11:40yep but but lately he just seems to
- 11:43be like into these super long epic movies
- 11:46like oppenheimer was what four hours long
- 11:50and i think this is like in that
- 11:53range i haven't seen it yet but i
- 11:58don't mind a long movie but four hours
- 12:00is
- 12:01Probably pushing it.
- 12:03Yeah.
- 12:04The other Ben Affleck movie, The Town.
- 12:06I love The Town.
- 12:10Lex's Odyssey is three hours long.
- 12:13That's fine.
- 12:18Question of the week for Scott.
- 12:19Whoa.
- 12:20Wow.
- 12:21Would you rather watch the Toxic Avenger
- 12:23anthology or do a hundred burpees for
- 12:25time?
- 12:28I'd probably rather do a hundred burpees
- 12:29for time.
- 12:35so uh matt damon is always trying to
- 12:43get home saving private ryan the martian
- 12:45the bourne movies i love the bourne movies
- 12:49yeah me too oceans eleven's one of my
- 12:51favorite movies of all time too with matt
- 12:54damon but he's not even really the main
- 12:56character uh
- 13:02Uh, oh, interstellar too.
- 13:03Yep.
- 13:04Um,
- 13:05the other thing I wanted to say is,
- 13:06uh, I am teaming up with the Glintons.
- 13:09Well, the one Glinton and Jeremy Williams,
- 13:12and we are doing a sports show every
- 13:14Tuesday night at six PM.
- 13:18It is not CrossFit.
- 13:19We are not talking CrossFit.
- 13:23There's already bets over under how long
- 13:24it'll take us to talk about CrossFit,
- 13:27but it is going to be an other
- 13:29sports show.
- 13:30Okay.
- 13:32With Garrett?
- 13:33With Garrett and Jeremy Williams.
- 13:35Okay.
- 13:36And maybe Corey.
- 13:36All right.
- 13:40So we'll see.
- 13:43There we go.
- 13:51And another shirt.
- 13:54And looking good.
- 13:57Looking good.
- 13:58I think that shirt moves you up Hiller's
- 14:00list all the way to an A.
- 14:03I don't know about that.
- 14:06But I'll take it.
- 14:08I like it though.
- 14:09This is a very good color.
- 14:10I love this blue.
- 14:12Although mine looks a different blue than
- 14:13yours.
- 14:15You think?
- 14:16I think it's just lighting.
- 14:18They're all the same color in the box.
- 14:20Trust me.
- 14:25Um, so cool.
- 14:27Uh,
- 14:28the other thing I wanted to talk about
- 14:29real quick before we get into the
- 14:30Christmas stuff is, uh,
- 14:32my dumb cohost did the impossible mile
- 14:37this week.
- 14:38Why?
- 14:40We've been wanting to do it for like,
- 14:42I don't know,
- 14:43like a year at least we've been talking
- 14:44about it at the gym.
- 14:46And then I saw they like,
- 14:48we're doing it at the games and Veronica
- 14:51and I were going to go,
- 14:52go try to do it.
- 14:54And then I was like, nah, we'll just,
- 14:55cause there's people at the gym who wanted
- 14:56to do it too.
- 14:57So I was like,
- 14:57we'll just program in it,
- 14:59program it when we get back.
- 15:01Oh, and it was,
- 15:03it was poor Jim's seventieth birthday on
- 15:07Thursday.
- 15:08And I programmed it for that day so
- 15:09that people would come and spend the day
- 15:11with him.
- 15:12Oh my gosh.
- 15:14It was rough.
- 15:15How long did that take?
- 15:17It took me forty nine minutes,
- 15:18but it took a lot of people like
- 15:20seventy five minutes.
- 15:24jim peeper for people who don't know is
- 15:27uh one of the members of jamie's gym
- 15:30and he is a former crossfit games podium
- 15:33winner in the masters division um and it
- 15:36was the seventieth birthday which is
- 15:38really cool now he's seventy plus i know
- 15:40now he can be in the new category
- 15:42yeah yeah um but i actually texted jamie
- 15:48and she said it would did you not
- 15:50say it was a mistake
- 15:52I, well, yeah, when we finished it,
- 15:54I was like, I was like, never again.
- 15:57Like, that's not,
- 15:58that's not something I'll ever do again.
- 15:59And in midway through it, I was like,
- 16:02we need to change this for the night
- 16:04class.
- 16:05Cause like nobody should be doing this.
- 16:09It was, it needed to be partner.
- 16:10It needed to be,
- 16:11which a lot of people,
- 16:12I had already put it in leveled out
- 16:15level method.
- 16:16So a lot of people were already scaling
- 16:18it.
- 16:18Like a lot of people did it.
- 16:19Two hundred meters of the movement.
- 16:21And then jogged in two hundred meters and
- 16:24then the two hundred of the next movement.
- 16:25So they did like half the work.
- 16:28What I tried to get my husband to
- 16:30do because he came at six.
- 16:31I was like,
- 16:31you should do because I the only thing
- 16:34that really bothered me was the burpee
- 16:35broad jump.
- 16:37And it starts with that.
- 16:38So you're just you're there for like
- 16:39twenty five minutes doing burpee broad
- 16:40jumps.
- 16:40It just takes forever.
- 16:42And then you're annoyed with the whole
- 16:43thing.
- 16:44So, yeah.
- 16:46I had told him, I was like,
- 16:48you should just do a hundred meters of
- 16:49burpee, brow jump,
- 16:50a hundred meters of lunging,
- 16:51a hundred meters of bear crawl, jog,
- 16:53and do four laps of that.
- 16:54So it was like broken up,
- 16:56but he did.
- 16:56He was like, no,
- 16:57you guys all did it the right way.
- 16:58He's just as stubborn as me.
- 17:04We went to a track.
- 17:06So even in the evening classes,
- 17:08they went to the track.
- 17:09Yep.
- 17:09Yep.
- 17:10The gym was shut that day.
- 17:10I was like, show up at the track.
- 17:12Cool.
- 17:13Yep.
- 17:14the video i saw was of aaron yes
- 17:17and he looked miserable and that was the
- 17:19burpee broad jump so that's at the
- 17:20beginning already looking miserable i
- 17:23think i snapped i think i had snapped
- 17:25you scott like the lunges and the bear
- 17:28crawl so like a little bit of each
- 17:30lap yep all of aaron though and all
- 17:34of all of him looking miserable how far
- 17:38how far into the burpee broad jump where
- 17:40you're like i shouldn't have programmed
- 17:42this for the class
- 17:43Probably just short of two hundred meters.
- 17:48I was like, this is a terrible idea.
- 17:53It just and like the last time we
- 17:55did like a high rock last summer,
- 17:58we had done some high rocks style workout.
- 18:02And I don't know what it is,
- 18:04but I I can't do burpee broad jumps
- 18:07and not be crazy.
- 18:09like the front my tibialis is like wrecked
- 18:11like i still today am like in pain
- 18:14walking around the rest of me feels fine
- 18:16now um or what three days out yesterday
- 18:18i was still pretty sore like all over
- 18:20even my shoulders um but the front of
- 18:24my shins kill i don't know what it
- 18:26is i don't know i it's probably just
- 18:29the way i land when i broad jump
- 18:31i don't even i do not like broad
- 18:32jumps at all well you would be lifting
- 18:33your
- 18:34lifting your feet up probably reaching and
- 18:36it's just that motion that you're not used
- 18:38to.
- 18:39Like if you're doing like a box jump,
- 18:40you're just a quick but just the amount
- 18:42of times that you're gonna have to
- 18:44dorsiflex there.
- 18:44Yeah, it's gonna, it's gonna get you.
- 18:48Yeah,
- 18:48my son did it with us at noon
- 18:50and he he went out hot like he
- 18:53was like fifty meters ahead of me on
- 18:55the burpee broad jump.
- 18:56He like he can burpee broad jump like
- 18:58two to two to one to me.
- 18:59Like his jump is just far.
- 19:01And I just was I was doing him
- 19:02quick but short.
- 19:04And I finally like he sort of like
- 19:07started to die towards the end of the
- 19:08burpee broad jump.
- 19:09I caught him and I just I like
- 19:10lunges.
- 19:11So that didn't bother me.
- 19:12Everyone else is like dying on the lunges.
- 19:16You know what it sounds like Jamie needs?
- 19:18Some Playa with Brevo.
- 19:20I do.
- 19:20But I always comment on Carol and stuff.
- 19:22I'm like, I can't even do...
- 19:25I couldn't even do half of the stuff.
- 19:29I went filming today,
- 19:30so I'm all done writing my program.
- 19:32Now it's about going to film every single
- 19:35drill.
- 19:36And
- 19:38It's going to take me so long to
- 19:39film every single drill that I have.
- 19:41You need to send me some of it
- 19:43and I need to film scaled versions for
- 19:46you.
- 19:46No, I am.
- 19:48Like I did like a hurdle jump,
- 19:50like a lateral low hurdle jump.
- 19:52But then I also had cones to the
- 19:53side just to show that you can also
- 19:55just use cones if you don't feel like.
- 19:56But you make it look too easy.
- 19:58You need the scaled.
- 19:59I'm working on it though.
- 20:02You need Jamie to do the Teemu version
- 20:04of the...
- 20:06But it's the first week it starts.
- 20:10It's foundation.
- 20:13I'm not going to do all of my
- 20:14crazy things on that.
- 20:16But there's a good progression.
- 20:19Jamie, does your gym do Sentinel?
- 20:21No,
- 20:21we do not do Sentinel as a gym.
- 20:24We probably about...
- 20:28Two, three months ago,
- 20:29we switched over from Training Think Tank.
- 20:32I've done a Training Think Tank affiliate
- 20:34programming for like four years.
- 20:36The day they came out with it,
- 20:37we've done that.
- 20:38And about two or three months ago,
- 20:40we switched over to HillerFit as a gym.
- 20:44So that's what we do as a gym.
- 20:45How do you like that?
- 20:48I like it.
- 20:49The gym does not seem to love it.
- 20:54Like some do.
- 20:55It's just,
- 20:56there's like a lot of like some high
- 20:58rep stuff that they're like,
- 21:00they feel beat up.
- 21:01I really need to like emphasize people
- 21:04like scaling down.
- 21:05There's just a lot of people who,
- 21:07cause I level it out.
- 21:08And if I put the RX plus version
- 21:11in at all,
- 21:13I have people thinking they need to do
- 21:15RX plus and nobody needs to be doing
- 21:17RX plus.
- 21:18Um,
- 21:18it's more in there for me and then
- 21:20like level down.
- 21:21But there's too many people who like still
- 21:23try to do what they would consider their
- 21:24color.
- 21:25And I'm like,
- 21:26you guys all need to just back down
- 21:27till we get comfortable with this.
- 21:31everything that i've seen from him when he
- 21:33would post his his programming like i
- 21:35think it's very smart and like yeah well
- 21:37done i don't know what he's done for
- 21:39like affiliate programming but i i follow
- 21:41his like affiliate page yeah yeah okay so
- 21:43that is yeah i like his stuff and
- 21:45it's it's got some creative things and
- 21:47it's probably good tessa i i do follow
- 21:52sentinel yes yes i yes i follow sentinel
- 21:56it's just
- 21:58a little, it would be a little much.
- 21:59I mean, honestly,
- 22:00I don't know when I compare it to
- 22:02Hiller fit, maybe it wouldn't,
- 22:04wouldn't be, but I,
- 22:05if I scaled all of it,
- 22:07I follow the compete in Sentinel,
- 22:10which is just, it's far too long.
- 22:12I suppose I could swap over to the
- 22:15classic track and it would maybe fit in
- 22:17an hour,
- 22:18but then I'm still doing something
- 22:20different.
- 22:21If I'm doing like the whole thing is
- 22:23like, I'm trying to get,
- 22:24I'm trying to not double up all the
- 22:26time on everything I do.
- 22:28So I'm trying to find something that I
- 22:29can do class wide weekly and add in
- 22:34a piece, you know, from Sentinel.
- 22:37So when I do the Sentinel workouts,
- 22:40they fit.
- 22:41If I do the classic,
- 22:42I don't do the compete.
- 22:43It easily fits in an hour.
- 22:47And they rate up like four different
- 22:49scales for the workout.
- 22:51It is super easy to use.
- 22:55I can't say enough good things about how
- 22:57easy.
- 22:57I've done a couple other ones.
- 22:59That's been the easiest one for me to
- 23:01follow because it gives so many scaling
- 23:04options.
- 23:05And they're very clear and precise in how
- 23:08they describe everything.
- 23:11I think I just saw that they have
- 23:12like a
- 23:13low equipment that they added as well.
- 23:16I think recently,
- 23:16I don't know if that matches up to
- 23:17the classic or if it's something
- 23:18different.
- 23:19But I saw that's probably something
- 23:21different.
- 23:22Because even the classic has some
- 23:24equipment that I don't have.
- 23:25And I have to like sub in things.
- 23:33A classic from anyone is a tough sell
- 23:35to members if they've done ABC stuff.
- 23:39I agree, it's effective stuff,
- 23:40but members get squirrels.
- 23:42they sure do man i'm never like i
- 23:45just try to not even listen to the
- 23:47feedback anymore because everyone's gonna
- 23:48have a complaint um and it's just i
- 23:52don't know it's nice to switch it up
- 23:53different equipment different movements
- 23:54like we did for a while there we
- 23:56did like three weeks of toes to ring
- 23:58and some people really were excited about
- 24:01getting a different movement i mean some
- 24:03like they can't do total bar but they
- 24:04can do total ring so that was fun
- 24:06for some people oh
- 24:08My biggest thing is if you're not
- 24:10competing,
- 24:11there should be some elements of fun to
- 24:13it.
- 24:13Totally agree.
- 24:15You're not there to go to the games.
- 24:18You're there to get fit and it should
- 24:20be fun.
- 24:21It should be a thing that you go
- 24:22do with your friends and you just get
- 24:24fitter.
- 24:25And when my gym switched to Comptrain,
- 24:28I lost all the fun.
- 24:31That was my biggest complaint with
- 24:32Comtrain is it was all about competing and
- 24:36getting to the games and doing all this
- 24:38dumbbell work.
- 24:39And it lost the fun aspect of things.
- 24:45And so that's what I loved about Polaris.
- 24:47Christy was so good about, yeah,
- 24:52she trains for the games,
- 24:53but the class work is fun.
- 24:55Interval work can be fun even though it's
- 24:58interval work.
- 25:02um but yeah i look that's my favorite
- 25:05programming of all time is christie's and
- 25:08i miss her dearly um agree there everyone
- 25:16did com train when it first got big
- 25:17we all got fit and super bored yeah
- 25:26Uh,
- 25:26you didn't like bike buy-ins and three
- 25:28minutes of overhead squats on repeats.
- 25:31Not so much.
- 25:35Um,
- 25:37so I wanted to talk about the CrossFit
- 25:40athlete council made recommendations to
- 25:43CrossFit.
- 25:45Um,
- 25:45I put it in our notes what those
- 25:46recommendations were.
- 25:47I have them, uh,
- 25:49their Instagram posts to pull up, uh,
- 25:51in full detail.
- 25:55If I can find it again.
- 25:58I have so many things queued up.
- 26:03Here we go.
- 26:06so um the first recommendation and i just
- 26:09want to get your feedback on this is
- 26:11and i know the feedback on this because
- 26:13we have talked about it endlessly over the
- 26:16last two seasons number one is the opening
- 26:18quarterfinal should be one continuous
- 26:20leaderboard making the top five hundred
- 26:23men and women individuals eligible to
- 26:25complete compete at semifinals yeah we've
- 26:31been asking for it right
- 26:35Yeah, I think that's good.
- 26:36Like I have,
- 26:37I've been saying that forever.
- 26:38Like the open style workouts are a
- 26:39different style of workouts.
- 26:41And then you have the quarterfinals,
- 26:42which is a different style workout.
- 26:43And I don't think that the open should
- 26:45get a race.
- 26:45It makes the open matter.
- 26:46I like it.
- 26:48I've always liked that.
- 26:50Yeah.
- 26:50I really like that.
- 26:51It's the one week too.
- 26:53Like they could have made the leaderboard
- 26:54continue on,
- 26:55even if it was like last year's format,
- 26:58a month and a half later or whatever.
- 27:00I really liked that.
- 27:01They moved the open up like two weeks.
- 27:04So I feel like we're going to basically
- 27:06end when the Open ended last year,
- 27:09and we're going to be done with
- 27:10quarterfinals,
- 27:11which was our complaint last year, right?
- 27:14Well,
- 27:14it gives two more weeks for the semifinals
- 27:19to use this leaderboard as opposed to
- 27:22invites and their own qualifiers.
- 27:24Right, right.
- 27:27But the thing that I think is frustrating
- 27:29for me is the number of people who
- 27:31want the open scrapped,
- 27:33who think that it's useless.
- 27:35It's still a valid test for certain
- 27:37things.
- 27:38And when you add in the other four
- 27:40or five workouts and it becomes a part
- 27:43of the whole,
- 27:44it even makes a more complete test.
- 27:47And it lets you open up the quarterfinals
- 27:50to be even higher skill.
- 27:55Yeah, for sure.
- 27:56Yeah.
- 27:57Because you see a lot of people who
- 27:59are really,
- 28:00really good at high skill gymnastics and
- 28:02very, very heavyweights.
- 28:04But if you ask them to go light
- 28:06and fast, they're not that good.
- 28:09And they have a hole.
- 28:10and when we just count the quarterfinal or
- 28:13even the semifinal let's say but well for
- 28:15this purpose the quarterfinal they can
- 28:18hide their hole very very well and then
- 28:21just focus on the high skill heavy weights
- 28:23and like that's not what fitness is it's
- 28:26not just that you have to also be
- 28:27able to do the rest so i think
- 28:29it's it makes sense it's going to give
- 28:31people you know seven maybe eight scores
- 28:34that they're we all took the same test
- 28:36now from there who gets to go to
- 28:38semi-finals
- 28:39I think that's way better.
- 28:41Agreed.
- 28:45Yeah, I've seen a lot of comments like,
- 28:46oh,
- 28:46you're going to have to change the way
- 28:49the ompens run.
- 28:50You need to add a lift in the
- 28:51ompen.
- 28:51And I mean,
- 28:53we go through this every year and people
- 28:55complain about the programming.
- 28:58The base of the pyramid is metabolic
- 29:00conditioning.
- 29:01I feel like people are not aerobically fit
- 29:03enough.
- 29:05They just want the heavy lift.
- 29:10Does this mean videos are on our system?
- 29:13I know.
- 29:14I mean, that's another subject completely.
- 29:17They address that later on.
- 29:18As far as video review,
- 29:20one idea would be to opt in to
- 29:23compete versus, I don't know, participate.
- 29:26Yeah,
- 29:26when signing in for the CrossFit Open,
- 29:28this would still be the same leaderboard,
- 29:30but only those who are competing would be
- 29:32eligible for quarterfinals and beyond and
- 29:34would also require a video link during the
- 29:37score submission window for both Open and
- 29:39quarterfinals.
- 29:40Only videos with high public scrutiny
- 29:42would be reviewed,
- 29:43or HQ could request a video from one
- 29:45workout at the end of quarterfinals for
- 29:47semifinal qualifiers as a spot check of
- 29:50sorts,
- 29:51like past CrossFit Open requirements.
- 29:55Regardless,
- 29:56having that as an option over no one
- 30:00gets their video reviews and it's always
- 30:02been an honor system.
- 30:03That's already a step up if we were
- 30:05to at least have, you know,
- 30:07the compete versus participate and then
- 30:08the compete have their videos,
- 30:10let's say public.
- 30:12Right.
- 30:12Like that's already a step that we,
- 30:14we already don't have.
- 30:15So I'm good at that.
- 30:17And I think just by having to put
- 30:19your video public, it still makes people,
- 30:22or at least it should make people think
- 30:23about their movement standards.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:35It sucks.
- 30:37I know it sucks.
- 30:37I mean,
- 30:38I have to do it every year.
- 30:40I get that it may deter some people,
- 30:43but if you truly are competitive and
- 30:46you're going to click compete,
- 30:47it means you want to move on and
- 30:49you have to submit a video for
- 30:51quarterfinals.
- 30:52So like, what's the,
- 30:54what's the issue with videoing three more
- 30:56workouts?
- 31:01Most people do anyway,
- 31:02if you're a competitor.
- 31:03Exactly.
- 31:05Right.
- 31:07You see people's video on Instagram and,
- 31:10Just, you know, I don't know.
- 31:16And then I've had people say to me,
- 31:18well, why not just do a five-week open?
- 31:20One,
- 31:21doing multiple workouts in one weekend is
- 31:23a harder test than doing one workout a
- 31:25week.
- 31:26So it's a different style of test.
- 31:28The other thing is when you get to
- 31:30the higher level skills,
- 31:32the equipment becomes more scarce in
- 31:34affiliates.
- 31:35GHDs aren't as plentiful.
- 31:37Ropes aren't as plentiful.
- 31:39Rings aren't as plentiful.
- 31:41So...
- 31:42You need to help out the affiliates by
- 31:45funneling down the number of people doing
- 31:48those higher skills.
- 31:54Because the equipment just is more scarce
- 31:57at that point.
- 32:03Not everybody's like CrossFit Polaris that
- 32:05had a rope in every lane and an
- 32:07echo bike and a rower in every lane
- 32:09and all of that stuff, right?
- 32:12That's very rare.
- 32:19I like the idea.
- 32:20I hope they do have to video.
- 32:25Does your open rank relative the open
- 32:27field or quarterfinal field count towards
- 32:29your quarterfinal rank?
- 32:32In this case, Max,
- 32:33it is the combination of all workouts from
- 32:37both is your overall rank.
- 32:43Right.
- 32:44Yeah.
- 32:44Like all seven scores count together as
- 32:47your test.
- 32:48It's not like you're open.
- 32:49Let's say you finished the fifteenth and
- 32:50all of a sudden you carry that over,
- 32:52which they've done before.
- 32:53Yeah.
- 32:54That's how they used to do the Masters.
- 32:56That's dumb.
- 32:58Yeah.
- 33:00Yeah,
- 33:00it would count like as their first score
- 33:02of the next stage.
- 33:04But no,
- 33:05this each of them would count equally
- 33:08altogether.
- 33:09I'm not sure if when you go to
- 33:11the quarterfinals, if it's only the seven,
- 33:14like if you're,
- 33:15if they have like another type of
- 33:17leaderboard,
- 33:18where it's only the people that have taken
- 33:21all those tests that are kind of ranked,
- 33:23or if during the open when you were
- 33:25ranked,
- 33:26whatever if it's just added on i don't
- 33:28know if that makes sense or not but
- 33:30yeah no i agree because yeah if if
- 33:33you finished two hundredth in a workout
- 33:36and thirty of those people didn't sign up
- 33:38you you really would be one seventy on
- 33:41the in the quarterfinal leaderboard it i i
- 33:47have a feeling crossfit is not going to
- 33:50do that work no i i think that's
- 33:52too much work i think you'll just
- 33:54Yeah, everything combined.
- 33:55And these are just recommendations.
- 33:57We don't know that CrossFit's doing any of
- 33:58this.
- 33:59Well, that's true.
- 34:00Yeah, they haven't approved it.
- 34:02Yeah, my point is,
- 34:04I have a feeling CrossFit will say, no,
- 34:05we can't do that.
- 34:07And this won't happen.
- 34:08Because they're just going to be like,
- 34:11yeah, we're... I mean,
- 34:13there's probably someone here freaking in
- 34:15our chat who could do this in a
- 34:17day.
- 34:18Well, Patrick doesn't...
- 34:23Patrick makes a good point.
- 34:25The one big bugaboo with this, I think,
- 34:28is reducing the field from two thousand to
- 34:30five hundred who make it to semifinals,
- 34:33because that is a lot of money that
- 34:35CrossFit is giving up.
- 34:38Because a lot of people signed up to
- 34:39do the online semifinal that had to pay
- 34:42that fee.
- 34:44And now you're reducing that overall fee.
- 34:47pieced down by fifteen hundred people not
- 34:50that every one of them signed up but
- 34:52it's just reducing the pool a great deal
- 34:56from people who act who did sign up
- 34:58to see what they could do
- 35:00That is going to be.
- 35:02It says to compete live at a semifinals.
- 35:05You can still probably have a bigger pool
- 35:07of people that can be for an online
- 35:10semifinal.
- 35:12Like I think that if you're in the
- 35:13top five hundred,
- 35:14you can get asked for a semifinal,
- 35:16let's say.
- 35:17But past that,
- 35:18maybe it's the online because I just see
- 35:20live here.
- 35:21So that's one thing.
- 35:23I think the bigger issue with that is
- 35:26the,
- 35:27because you can look at this past year's
- 35:29semifinal registrations and the year
- 35:31before,
- 35:32and it's a pretty stark difference because
- 35:35of the number of spots given to that
- 35:38online semifinal.
- 35:39And later they talk about they want to
- 35:42have it be one or two,
- 35:42and I think that's going to be their
- 35:44fatal flaw if they want to make money
- 35:45online.
- 35:47You have to have more than one or
- 35:49two spots if you want people to pay
- 35:51to compete online.
- 35:53Yeah,
- 35:53because people will just look at the
- 35:54workouts and then be like, no,
- 35:55not for one spot.
- 35:56Yeah.
- 35:58And that's the crux of everything.
- 36:02We are giving up making it a better
- 36:04and more seamless transition to make the
- 36:08quick buck.
- 36:10Yeah.
- 36:10Instead of trying to make a more
- 36:12longer-lasting season that makes sense.
- 36:18um and looking at the future dollars as
- 36:21opposed to the current dollars but if
- 36:26semifinals run a two day competition.
- 36:29Now all of a sudden,
- 36:30if you want to do two days prior
- 36:32teams or masters,
- 36:34that can also add into the pool of
- 36:36semifinal athletes in person and adding to
- 36:39the revenue of these semifinal host
- 36:44competitions.
- 36:45I think it would add more people there
- 36:46so that people can still sit there
- 36:48semifinal athletes.
- 36:49Because right now like the teams don't
- 36:51have many options.
- 36:52So
- 36:56Seth Jumpship,
- 36:57who is a big part of writing these
- 36:58recommendations, is in the chat.
- 37:00The theory is that you would get more
- 37:02from increased quarterfinal participation
- 37:04fees than you would lose from an online
- 37:06semifinal.
- 37:08Right.
- 37:09I mean,
- 37:09it makes sense to me whether or not
- 37:13they can convince HQ.
- 37:15We have loved this idea for two years.
- 37:18Carolyn brought this up two years ago to
- 37:20us,
- 37:21and we have been banging this drum a
- 37:23long time.
- 37:25It's getting CrossFit to see that, okay,
- 37:29you may lose a couple dollars today,
- 37:31but you're going to make way more in
- 37:32the future is a really hard sell.
- 37:35With the past administration,
- 37:37we don't know what's going to happen with
- 37:39the new guy.
- 37:45Barry makes a great point.
- 37:46Twenty years, eventually,
- 37:47they'll get it right.
- 37:48Will they?
- 37:49They could make it worse in another
- 37:51twenty.
- 37:51Yeah, Patrick's got it right here.
- 37:53Yeah, read that one.
- 37:54The last time they did last chance
- 37:55qualifier in twenty twenty five,
- 37:57they had one spot available for men and
- 37:58women.
- 37:59Only seven men and fifteen women did all
- 38:01the five workouts and less than one
- 38:03hundred signed up total.
- 38:04Yeah.
- 38:05So you're like the people's argument.
- 38:08I was one of the fifteen.
- 38:09Right.
- 38:10I mean, it wasn't very many people.
- 38:11And you say like five hundred is not
- 38:14enough to advance semis.
- 38:16Honestly,
- 38:16like if those five hundred feel like they
- 38:18have a shot and there's five spots online,
- 38:20you're going to get way more signups than
- 38:23one spot.
- 38:24i also feel like for the quarterfinals
- 38:26there's a lot of members that would enjoy
- 38:29i know it's more expensive to do the
- 38:30quarterfinals but that they'll get a
- 38:32better idea of their fitness when they
- 38:34have all those scores counted and then
- 38:37they get to see okay i was really
- 38:39bad at the high skill but i'm really
- 38:40good here and like i'm this place with
- 38:44seven events versus just three and then
- 38:46starting over and then getting you know
- 38:49kicked out or just not kicked out but
- 38:52like
- 38:53really beat up in the quarterfinals
- 38:54because you were not ready.
- 38:55I just think it gives members also a
- 38:57better picture so that their levels are
- 39:01more appropriate for the Community Cup.
- 39:04Yeah.
- 39:06Which was not really talked about that
- 39:10much.
- 39:11It kind of just came by fast.
- 39:14I don't think I heard one thing about
- 39:15the Community Cup at the games.
- 39:19And that could have been a great
- 39:20opportunity to talk about it.
- 39:23It was on a reel of videos that
- 39:27showed up on the screen,
- 39:28but I didn't hear anybody say anything
- 39:30about it.
- 39:37Number two,
- 39:38forty men and women should qualify to the
- 39:40CrossFit Games.
- 39:43Yeah,
- 39:44I don't know if I agree with this
- 39:45one.
- 39:47i'm not completely opposed to it but like
- 39:49i said we've the thirty seems to be
- 39:52a sweet spot i think i think i
- 39:55said this last week unless you can figure
- 39:56out a twelve lane system and have thirty
- 39:58six that's probably three heats is
- 40:01probably i think the sweet spot yeah like
- 40:04thirty six with twelve so that'd be great
- 40:06yeah i would love that i'm just of
- 40:08the opinion and we're all i think
- 40:11for all of us that whoever goes to
- 40:13the games,
- 40:14you take the full test and each test
- 40:16matters.
- 40:17Correct.
- 40:18That's my bigger issue with saying let's
- 40:20get forty there.
- 40:21I don't want someone to go there and
- 40:22not and not complete the weekend.
- 40:27I'm also the opinion that like all the
- 40:28tests should be like equally ranked,
- 40:31like a five hundred meter sprint should be
- 40:34as important as a six mile trail run.
- 40:39a bag throw if you view it as
- 40:41important to put in the test.
- 40:43Hundred points like.
- 40:48Maximally the big pro of this year was
- 40:50the high tempo of events for heat starts
- 40:52to drone on.
- 40:54Here's what I'll say.
- 40:56I have always been a proponent of the
- 40:58forty people at the games until I saw
- 41:01it play out this year.
- 41:02And they did do an excellent job of
- 41:05moving things quickly through,
- 41:08which I think is a necessity.
- 41:10The other problem is we've never seen
- 41:11forty with the forty best athletes.
- 41:13Correct.
- 41:15So you're comparing apples to oranges.
- 41:19This year we had probably the closest we
- 41:22have ever had to the thirty best athletes
- 41:25at the games.
- 41:27It's still not perfect,
- 41:28but it was close to.
- 41:31And I always loved the forty athletes,
- 41:36but we didn't have the right forty there.
- 41:38I agree with that.
- 41:41So it's hard to like compare.
- 41:43Well,
- 41:44I think that's what makes the cuts idea
- 41:46even...
- 41:46Because I feel like if we go this
- 41:48route and we get the right forty athletes,
- 41:51I really don't want someone cut.
- 41:53In the past,
- 41:54I could maybe have justified that there
- 41:55were eight to ten people who probably
- 41:57didn't even really deserve to be there.
- 41:59And so if they get cut,
- 41:59they get cut.
- 42:00It is what it is.
- 42:01But I think if you have the right
- 42:03forty people, you don't want any cuts.
- 42:06So like...
- 42:07I mean,
- 42:08I just think you figure out how many
- 42:10people you can run.
- 42:11The cuts are the semifinals.
- 42:13The cuts are the quarterfinals.
- 42:14The open.
- 42:15Those are the cuts.
- 42:17And then you get to the games.
- 42:18This is the test.
- 42:19So if you look at the decathlon,
- 42:21you're not getting cut.
- 42:22These are the events.
- 42:24who at the end of this specific test
- 42:26is the fittest.
- 42:27Same thing for us.
- 42:28Like it just makes no sense to me
- 42:30that like you would cut someone after
- 42:32seven or eight events when there's
- 42:33thirteen to fifteen events and all of
- 42:35their strengths could have been there and
- 42:37they could have really affected the
- 42:39leaderboard and all that.
- 42:40Like I just don't think it gives
- 42:42a good representation of what everyone's
- 42:45fitness is when you you cut people short,
- 42:47then the order of the events matter.
- 42:49The scoring system changes after the cut
- 42:52some events if they change the scoring
- 42:54system.
- 42:54So now the events are worth more.
- 42:56So why are those events worth more than
- 42:58these ones?
- 42:59Just I don't know.
- 43:01I just think for our methodology and the
- 43:03definition of fitness, who's ever there,
- 43:06whether it's twenty, thirty, forty,
- 43:08take the test.
- 43:10And then let's see who's ranked where.
- 43:13And we've never gotten a...
- 43:17an event after the cuts that was promised
- 43:21that now that we're cuts,
- 43:22we can do this where we couldn't in
- 43:24the before that's never happened.
- 43:27It's been a promise that's never been
- 43:28fulfilled.
- 43:30And I agree with everything that Carolyn
- 43:31just said,
- 43:32like that the points change after the
- 43:35cuts,
- 43:36the order of events really is crucial when
- 43:39you're having cuts.
- 43:41And depending on what kind of an athlete
- 43:43you are,
- 43:44one year you might get cut the other
- 43:46year you might not get cut.
- 43:47Like it's just, yeah.
- 43:49Like a lot of times it's like the
- 43:50single modality things at the start.
- 43:52And then here comes all the CrossFit,
- 43:53which you could be excelling at so much
- 43:56when it's mixed.
- 43:58Yeah.
- 43:58Like, and people will say, Oh,
- 44:00the cuts are exciting.
- 44:01It's exciting to see who gets cut.
- 44:02Who's going to not, but like, it's just,
- 44:05it's not comparable to playoffs or other
- 44:08sports.
- 44:08Like this is a test of fitness.
- 44:10And these are the events that the director
- 44:12chose to put forward and,
- 44:14And I feel like all should take part.
- 44:16The drama that happens from the cuts is
- 44:19a bullshit argument.
- 44:21Because if that's your argument,
- 44:23you would not have five attempts to
- 44:25qualify for the games.
- 44:27If you want the drama in the season,
- 44:31it's going to be another recommendation
- 44:32that's coming up on this list.
- 44:36If you truly cared about the drama,
- 44:39there are points in the season you can
- 44:40have a lot of drama.
- 44:46Um, Seth was, I need to find it.
- 44:48Um, the cuts are a concession to HQ,
- 44:52not a recommendation of the CAC, uh,
- 44:54forty athlete spot strengthens live semis.
- 44:57More will fight to participate because of
- 44:59the increased opportunities.
- 45:04I really struggle with this one.
- 45:06Cause I know one of their recommendations
- 45:09is to increase semifinals fields.
- 45:12And I think that is.
- 45:16I just – I don't see the benefit
- 45:21in that.
- 45:22In all honesty,
- 45:23the best way for HQ to make money
- 45:27is to do all online.
- 45:30And pushing those spots out to in-person
- 45:33semis that – and I know they're going
- 45:37to, you know,
- 45:40push that off to somebody else and not
- 45:42have any cost incurred with it.
- 45:43I just –
- 45:46They're also not going to get the revenue
- 45:48from it,
- 45:48so I don't see why that's a benefit.
- 45:51I know we want we as a sport
- 45:53would like in-person events,
- 45:56but I don't see how this improves things
- 46:01for HQ, money-wise, personally.
- 46:03No, because one,
- 46:05I think one of the recommendation was for
- 46:07half of the quarterfinal money to go
- 46:09towards these events to help them for
- 46:13registration, or maybe not registration,
- 46:15but to offset some of their costs.
- 46:18I just don't see how CrossFit's going to
- 46:19say, oh, yes, let's do that.
- 46:22Because like you said, and I fully agree,
- 46:24the online version of CrossFit makes HQ so
- 46:30much money.
- 46:33Yeah.
- 46:35The quarterfinal edition was brilliant for
- 46:39HQ.
- 46:40It was the smartest move that they
- 46:41probably could have made to add another
- 46:43fifty bucks for that and then you added
- 46:47the online semifinal.
- 46:48That's just easy for them to take all
- 46:51that money.
- 46:54Semifinal athletes should have one
- 46:56opportunity to qualify for the CrossFit
- 46:58Games at a live event.
- 47:00Agree?
- 47:01Two billion thousand zillion percent.
- 47:04I do agree with this.
- 47:08For the director of the semifinals,
- 47:10Sanity, yes.
- 47:12And also, like, yeah,
- 47:13if you pick one that was stacked,
- 47:15it does suck, but then you would have,
- 47:16let's say,
- 47:17the last chance online to do that,
- 47:19or if you were sick or whatnot,
- 47:21because then it becomes who has the most
- 47:23sponsors,
- 47:24who has no job and can go and
- 47:27travel everywhere around the world or has
- 47:29the funding or support to be able to
- 47:31do this versus you get one shot,
- 47:34pick your region, and then if you don't,
- 47:38online.
- 47:39Then the online would be really,
- 47:40really interesting.
- 47:43We have lost all the drama in the
- 47:44season.
- 47:46And I think that's because CrossFit has
- 47:48given up any role in the season until
- 47:53the games.
- 47:54And so they,
- 47:55all they focus on is the drama of
- 47:56the games and they don't give a shit
- 47:58about the drama, the rest of the season,
- 48:01which is a horrible way to look at
- 48:03it and is never going to grow the
- 48:05sport.
- 48:06think that's why i'm like hesitant to say
- 48:09let's get let's bring on more semi-finals
- 48:12i don't want more third-party
- 48:13organizations doing their own you're
- 48:15jumping ahead okay um so we agree on
- 48:24that one crossfit hq should seek out new
- 48:27semi-final event organizers even at the
- 48:29affiliate level now go jamie
- 48:33I, it just, I don't, I don't like,
- 48:37it's literally the exact same thing as
- 48:39what's going on for the masters.
- 48:41Like giving that responsibility to
- 48:44somebody else just cheapens the whole feel
- 48:49of the whole thing.
- 48:50Like I know some of these event organizers
- 48:53can do an incredible job.
- 48:55But if you're going to then have twelve
- 48:57random semifinals that run however they
- 49:01want to run with maybe one guideline,
- 49:05I think it's crazy.
- 49:06I'd rather see four big semifinals that
- 49:08have seven spots, eight spots each.
- 49:12I thought Syndicate that year,
- 49:14when there was whatever,
- 49:14nine spots available,
- 49:15was incredibly exciting.
- 49:18I know it's not the three podium spots
- 49:20that you're looking at,
- 49:21you're looking down here,
- 49:22but that's exciting to me.
- 49:24Like there was a bunch of good athletes
- 49:26there.
- 49:26People will travel to see that.
- 49:28People aren't going to travel to twelve
- 49:29different semifinals when there's two good
- 49:32athletes at them for one or two spots.
- 49:35Like you need to bring.
- 49:38Thirty of like the best athletes to fight
- 49:40over nine spots and it's a mini games
- 49:44and people will.
- 49:45That's where you're going to maybe get
- 49:46people going to view in live in person.
- 49:53So here's the thing.
- 49:56I see both sides of this in a
- 49:57way.
- 49:59I don't think we need more semifinal,
- 50:01but we need more people that are willing
- 50:03to run semifinals and learn how to.
- 50:06We are burning out the semifinal people
- 50:08that we have that are good at it,
- 50:11and we're going to lose them because of
- 50:12it.
- 50:13The other thing is CrossFit is giving them
- 50:16no support, no way to sustain themselves,
- 50:19and they're losing money.
- 50:22And they've given them a shitty part of
- 50:25the season where there is no drama.
- 50:28People can go to eighteen different
- 50:29semifinals if they want.
- 50:32People aren't traveling to them to watch
- 50:35because there's so many of them and
- 50:37they'll get another opportunity down the
- 50:38road to see their favorite CrossFit
- 50:40athlete.
- 50:41So who wants to sign up for that
- 50:43junk?
- 50:47I think rather than add more,
- 50:49we're probably going to lose some.
- 50:52rightfully so i've said that if i was
- 50:54an event organizer i would say no f
- 50:57you run it yourself do it the way
- 50:59it should be done like and that's i
- 51:02think truly what needs to happen is people
- 51:03need to just back out and make hq
- 51:05take it over i think it's a lost
- 51:06cause that hq is probably never going to
- 51:08take it back over if that's what happens
- 51:09they'll probably go a hundred percent
- 51:10online um but yeah i'd rather see three
- 51:14incredibly strong semi-finals events
- 51:21And if you don't make it,
- 51:23you have the online portion.
- 51:24And if not, this is when, you know,
- 51:26trying to make WFP,
- 51:28going to Waterpalooza and all these other
- 51:30events are also rogue, are also options.
- 51:33And honestly,
- 51:33it makes more money than the CrossFit
- 51:34Games season because all of those
- 51:37athletes...
- 51:38that don't make it half the time they
- 51:40don't make anything at the games anyways
- 51:42so if you don't make it that year
- 51:44it just there's other opportunities in the
- 51:45season to continue to compete it's just
- 51:48you know people put all their eggs
- 51:50obviously across the game season because
- 51:51that is the biggest one like for sure
- 51:55but they would have a second chance online
- 51:58so it's still two chances there and i
- 52:01do think that that still works
- 52:07So Patrick says only in North America,
- 52:08French, Jordan, Torian, Far East, Copa,
- 52:10Sur and rebel are doing fine.
- 52:11That's because they only have one event
- 52:13per country.
- 52:14Well, I mean,
- 52:16he has a point there for one.
- 52:17I feel like, I mean, let's be real.
- 52:19Norcale is doing fine.
- 52:21And maybe Norcale shouldn't be a
- 52:22semifinal.
- 52:23They should just continue to run their,
- 52:26well like well-run comp that brings in a
- 52:28ton of community and that should be their
- 52:31thing and they should continue to make
- 52:32money on their event and then syndicate
- 52:35stays the like premier one here because
- 52:38it's kind of central and that's i i
- 52:43think the i mean that was the problem
- 52:45is we tore syndicate and nor kill in
- 52:48half being on the same weekend like you
- 52:51can't do that kind of thing
- 52:53I don't want more.
- 52:54I want less and I want everyone to
- 52:56go there.
- 52:59And then you have Del Mar and mayhem
- 53:01added.
- 53:01So now you have four semifinals in one
- 53:04country with people going to all like
- 53:06signing up for all of them,
- 53:07except for when they're on the same
- 53:09weekend.
- 53:10It's just bananas.
- 53:12I mean, mayhem is small.
- 53:13You're only going to draw so much crowd.
- 53:15So I'm not opposed to them remaining one.
- 53:19What sucks is it's so close to syndicate.
- 53:22location wise, right?
- 53:22Like it's kind of already that same crowd.
- 53:25Um,
- 53:25but ma'am is so small that not everyone
- 53:28can go there.
- 53:29So I guess syndicate could pull a bigger
- 53:33crowd.
- 53:35I don't know.
- 53:35All right.
- 53:37Next one.
- 53:39Quarterfinals revenue should be,
- 53:40have a percentage based and transparent
- 53:42split between CrossFit HQ and semifinal
- 53:45event hosts.
- 53:48Yes.
- 53:48I, I get it.
- 53:50Cause I think,
- 53:51I think they need to do a better
- 53:52job with handing money over for like age
- 53:55group too,
- 53:55but I just don't see them agreeing to
- 53:58this.
- 54:00Well,
- 54:00what's funny is the rule book says that
- 54:02the money earned from the open goes to
- 54:03like the prize purse and the quarterfinal.
- 54:06We have no idea where that goes to
- 54:09the, to the games budget.
- 54:10I'm sure it's not in the rule book.
- 54:13You're just making a big assumption.
- 54:15Yeah.
- 54:15Well,
- 54:16who knows if it even goes towards the
- 54:18games budget?
- 54:18Maybe that's just their pocket.
- 54:20And that's the money that like Karen said,
- 54:21that's their,
- 54:22that's how they made their books look back
- 54:25in black.
- 54:27It could be, I don't know.
- 54:32It's a private company.
- 54:34We're never going to know where that goes
- 54:35unless it's spelled out somewhere and it's
- 54:37not spelled out.
- 54:38Could be the Easter bonus for the
- 54:39employees.
- 54:40Who knows?
- 54:48But I do like the idea of me
- 54:50being more transparent with the
- 54:52quarterfinal money and showing where it
- 54:54goes.
- 54:56If they showed that it went to the
- 54:57game's budget,
- 54:58at least we'd know it's going to that.
- 55:00But there are people that do
- 55:01quarterfinals,
- 55:03and I don't know how big of a
- 55:04percentage this is, to support the season.
- 55:07People think that they're paying that
- 55:08money in support of the season,
- 55:10and we don't even know if the money
- 55:12goes to the season.
- 55:13Well,
- 55:14we also think people pay for the Open
- 55:17to support the season.
- 55:19We're getting to that, too.
- 55:24Individual semis should uniformly be a
- 55:26two-day competition with five to six
- 55:29scored events.
- 55:30At least six.
- 55:33I'm totally on board for the two-day.
- 55:35Totally.
- 55:35I'm on board for the two-day.
- 55:36I do agree.
- 55:37I think six is better because every
- 55:39semifinal always does a max lift and a
- 55:41run.
- 55:41I don't know.
- 55:42I just think six is a more well-rounded
- 55:45test.
- 55:45Yeah.
- 55:49The athletes can handle three events a
- 55:50day.
- 55:51A hundred percent.
- 55:52As long as, yeah.
- 55:53And then the other two days you could
- 55:55put the teams or masters there if you
- 55:57needed more or community divisions to add
- 55:59to your weekend.
- 56:05All right, and then finally,
- 56:06CrossFit should lean into age group
- 56:08athletes and team live semifinals as a way
- 56:10to improve competition and generate more
- 56:12participation.
- 56:15Yes, if you want to add the teams,
- 56:16that's one thing,
- 56:16but I think the age group kind of
- 56:19made their stand there this year on how
- 56:21that worked out.
- 56:24Well, there was no lean.
- 56:25I mean,
- 56:25they'd have to start leaning to lean more
- 56:27into.
- 56:29When you don't even acknowledge that they
- 56:32happened...
- 56:33during the games that were just down the
- 56:35street and it happened just days before
- 56:39there were no updates from the the teen
- 56:42group during the weekend while it was
- 56:44going on there now granted things move
- 56:47pretty quickly and there wasn't a lot of
- 56:49break between events but they had that
- 56:51video board running different things on it
- 56:54you're telling me you can't run footage of
- 56:58carolyn winning the thirty five to thirty
- 57:01nine noah winning thirty five to thirty
- 57:03nine rudy berger winning forty to forty
- 57:05four yeah yeah but they're not even
- 57:08talking about them highlighting like the
- 57:13games masters they're not even talking
- 57:15about they're literally talking about
- 57:16adding them to semifinals and i don't i
- 57:19don't think that that went well for the
- 57:21for the age groups
- 57:24Well, again, there's still no lean.
- 57:25Even when they were in the same place
- 57:27doing things at the same time,
- 57:29they didn't lean into that.
- 57:37All right.
- 57:40So I think that's all seven of the
- 57:42CAC recommendations.
- 57:45So I'll stop sharing.
- 57:46I appreciate the work that the CAC is
- 57:48doing, though,
- 57:49to bring these points up and...
- 57:53get some better, you know,
- 57:56get a better structure for the season.
- 57:57So definitely appreciate the work that
- 57:59they're doing and their ideas.
- 58:02Even if not everyone agrees with every
- 58:03single one of them, I think just having,
- 58:06you know,
- 58:07different representation on there and at
- 58:09least getting a dialogue going with HQ and
- 58:14the sport, I think is important.
- 58:15So we'll see where that goes.
- 58:20I wanted to,
- 58:21I'm going to skip ahead a little bit.
- 58:25WFP workouts were what,
- 58:27two weekish away from WFP tour stop two?
- 58:32while patrick's in the comments i'm going
- 58:34to put him on the spot since jamie
- 58:35and i have applied for media credentials
- 58:38uh we have not heard back in writing
- 58:40in and have not been able to make
- 58:42hotel reservations in indianapolis yet uh
- 58:46so just nudge nudge push push we have
- 58:50applied maybe i'll message brian again i
- 58:53had messaged brian because i was trying to
- 58:55look in to see if they had age
- 58:56group here but they don't they only have
- 58:59the finals unfortunately
- 59:00Yeah, and just in addition to this,
- 59:02Monster Games did announce that the
- 59:09winners of their competition get to go to
- 59:11Copenhagen and compete,
- 59:13and they put out a thing on Instagram,
- 59:14I believe it was today,
- 59:16which was a pretty cool little thing.
- 59:18Oh, we're approved.
- 59:21So we're approved,
- 59:21and so we need to clip this,
- 59:23print it out so we can bring it
- 59:25with us.
- 59:28All right.
- 59:29I need to get with Jamie then.
- 59:30And we need to figure out hotels.
- 59:33YouTube official.
- 59:37I'm going to put up, okay.
- 59:38Clip that clip clip that there we go.
- 59:40All right.
- 59:42So the workouts came out this week.
- 59:45Um,
- 59:46and Carolyn is going to be doing them.
- 59:49So I'd love to get the feedback on
- 59:51what we think of the workouts, uh,
- 59:53for tour stop number two in grand park,
- 59:56uh, Indiana.
- 1:00:00The Combine.
- 1:00:02Forty-yard dash, pro agility,
- 1:00:04five-ten-five shuttle, max broad jump.
- 1:00:06Loves it.
- 1:00:10Big hearts, big hearts, big hearts.
- 1:00:12Yeah, I mean,
- 1:00:13I've been waiting for thirteen years for
- 1:00:16something like this to show up.
- 1:00:17I mean,
- 1:00:17I would have liked to have been younger,
- 1:00:21but I'm excited for them to do this.
- 1:00:22I haven't actually been sprinting because
- 1:00:26I hurt my hamstring running a couple weeks
- 1:00:28or a week and a half ago.
- 1:00:30So,
- 1:00:31but I'm hoping to be back in all
- 1:00:33Tuesday to start re-implementing some
- 1:00:36sprinting again.
- 1:00:38Went a little bit too hard
- 1:00:39And I'm a little too old.
- 1:00:41Know your age.
- 1:00:44It wasn't too bad.
- 1:00:45It was just,
- 1:00:46it was a little bit of a pull,
- 1:00:48but it was just enough that I was
- 1:00:49like, okay, you're not,
- 1:00:51you're not twenty-five anymore.
- 1:00:53Can't do what you used to do.
- 1:00:55So, it was a little wake-up call.
- 1:01:00I'm hoping this isn't a place it's easy
- 1:01:02to watch.
- 1:01:04I want to see the five-ten shuttle so
- 1:01:05bad.
- 1:01:08That's the one I think I like the
- 1:01:09most of the three, I believe.
- 1:01:15Yeah.
- 1:01:18There was supposed to be a vertical jump,
- 1:01:21but I don't know if they took that
- 1:01:23away.
- 1:01:23So like at the Monster Games,
- 1:01:25they did a vertical jump,
- 1:01:26but it was like a time in the
- 1:01:28air.
- 1:01:29I think sometimes people kind of pike and
- 1:01:31because it's not just like a hitting,
- 1:01:33it was just like a vertical jump.
- 1:01:34And I think they probably just scratched
- 1:01:35that.
- 1:01:36I'm assuming because of the difficulty of
- 1:01:38judging that movement.
- 1:01:39But yeah, excited to see this combine.
- 1:01:43I wanted to put this up because this
- 1:01:45is a topic for later.
- 1:01:47Seth has taken off,
- 1:01:48but he'll say for future discussion that
- 1:01:50the master's payouts will be a topic of
- 1:01:52discussion at Thursday's CAC meeting.
- 1:01:54We've been told we will get clarity on
- 1:01:57that.
- 1:01:58Good.
- 1:01:59I saw Halpin's post that asked if they
- 1:02:01could audit the numbers if the CAC gets
- 1:02:03asked for an audit.
- 1:02:06I mean,
- 1:02:06it's not just affecting the masters,
- 1:02:07it's affecting the individuals.
- 1:02:08They're going off the same numbers for the
- 1:02:10individual.
- 1:02:10So people like, it's not, yeah,
- 1:02:13it's all of it.
- 1:02:15Yeah.
- 1:02:16Awesome.
- 1:02:17I'm glad to hear that.
- 1:02:19Uh,
- 1:02:20Indianapolis is the home of the combine
- 1:02:21for the NFL.
- 1:02:22So it is kind of cool that they're
- 1:02:24doing the combine in Indianapolis.
- 1:02:26That is cool.
- 1:02:28I'm looking forward.
- 1:02:28I think you have some athletes that are
- 1:02:30probably going to do really,
- 1:02:31really well here that we just don't know
- 1:02:33that they have this type of background.
- 1:02:35We've never tested this in CrossFit.
- 1:02:38Never.
- 1:02:38No one's had the balls to do it.
- 1:02:44I'm excited to see it.
- 1:02:45Who's the fastest?
- 1:02:47Who's agile?
- 1:02:47Who can jump far?
- 1:02:49I love it.
- 1:02:51I don't know how they're going to score
- 1:02:52it.
- 1:02:53Because we have fifty athletes taking the
- 1:02:55test.
- 1:02:56Like,
- 1:02:56are they worth thirty three something
- 1:02:59point three points each?
- 1:03:00I don't know.
- 1:03:02Fifty points.
- 1:03:03Yeah.
- 1:03:03At Monster Games,
- 1:03:04I think Corey told me they were there
- 1:03:06was four events and they were twenty five
- 1:03:08each.
- 1:03:09OK.
- 1:03:10Um, so,
- 1:03:12and then Patrick did say that they,
- 1:03:15that monster was a test run.
- 1:03:17So we'll see.
- 1:03:19Um,
- 1:03:21there was something I wanted to share and
- 1:03:24now I lost it.
- 1:03:27Oh, well, um, yeah.
- 1:03:31Excited for that one too.
- 1:03:35Uh, Phil says,
- 1:03:36I think he might do well in this
- 1:03:37one.
- 1:03:39I think you're right.
- 1:03:41again they're in a field of fifty there
- 1:03:44can be someone that has a hundred meter
- 1:03:46track and field background that we have no
- 1:03:48idea about or like a pure sprinter like
- 1:03:51we have no idea like we just haven't
- 1:03:53tested this this type of stuff and i
- 1:03:57don't know what um birchfield means and he
- 1:04:00says i don't know about that carolyn
- 1:04:05um pro vent to uh twelve parallel
- 1:04:08handstand push-ups twenty four ghd sit-ups
- 1:04:11twelve box jump over six flip sled four
- 1:04:14rounds for time i love the flip sled
- 1:04:17yeah it's it's really just a mini pig
- 1:04:22i've never really used i think i've only
- 1:04:24used it once and it was at wadapalooza
- 1:04:26many many years ago
- 1:04:28Um,
- 1:04:28I normally like the pig at the games.
- 1:04:31I like this one.
- 1:04:31There's some, um,
- 1:04:33like the flip side is almost like a
- 1:04:34clean and jerk,
- 1:04:35which will get the shoulders tired for
- 1:04:37probably hands and pushups.
- 1:04:38Like,
- 1:04:38I think this is a nice athletic event
- 1:04:40and I like it.
- 1:04:42I really like this event.
- 1:04:43Yeah, it's cool.
- 1:04:45Uh, then we have a ten K run.
- 1:04:47So we go forty yard dash to ten
- 1:04:50K run.
- 1:04:52I mean, if I like number one,
- 1:04:53I probably don't like number three for
- 1:04:58But I think both are important in a
- 1:05:00test of fitness.
- 1:05:01You know,
- 1:05:01someone like Kringle will do well at both.
- 1:05:05And that's why she's the fittest.
- 1:05:07But I think it's an important test that
- 1:05:09like, like,
- 1:05:10You have to do both.
- 1:05:11And we always only do the distance.
- 1:05:14So that's why I'm finally happy that we
- 1:05:15get to see the other side of it.
- 1:05:17Because there are people that we always
- 1:05:19assume that they're horrible runners,
- 1:05:21but they're just not great distance
- 1:05:23runners,
- 1:05:23but they could be excellent sprinters.
- 1:05:26So yeah, I think that's fine.
- 1:05:28And then Scott's favorite workout,
- 1:05:30the one rep max bench press.
- 1:05:34I'm going to get embarrassed here.
- 1:05:38Is Alex doing a WRP?
- 1:05:41no no okay she really wanted to do
- 1:05:45it because of the bench press i think
- 1:05:47she was very very curious but i think
- 1:05:49on the girls um podcast she said that
- 1:05:52she had a trip or something and then
- 1:05:53didn't want to think about having to train
- 1:05:55for wfp so i think she doesn't like
- 1:05:58it or is not doing it me personally
- 1:06:01you know number three and four is no
- 1:06:09yeah i'd like to be great
- 1:06:11I mean, I think, again,
- 1:06:11but I think it's going to be cool
- 1:06:12to see who can bench.
- 1:06:14I mean,
- 1:06:14that's kind of part of like the combine
- 1:06:16all the time is bench.
- 1:06:21Yeah.
- 1:06:22The test in the combine is taking two
- 1:06:25twenty five as many reps as you can.
- 1:06:27Right.
- 1:06:28And like for women,
- 1:06:29maybe that's one forty five or one fifty.
- 1:06:31I don't know.
- 1:06:32Somewhere in there.
- 1:06:33I don't think you would do one fifty
- 1:06:34five,
- 1:06:34which would normally be the standard.
- 1:06:36I think you would probably do.
- 1:06:37Yeah,
- 1:06:38I think guys can just bench better than
- 1:06:40females in general.
- 1:06:41Minus like a few.
- 1:06:44Um, but yeah, I mean, you know,
- 1:06:46this is setting up to be a back
- 1:06:48squat probably in the finals of WFP
- 1:06:51because last year they had some, um,
- 1:06:54Olympic lifting for their three stages of
- 1:06:56their max lift.
- 1:06:57Now you're seeing, um, power lifts,
- 1:06:59you know, you had the deadlift, the bench,
- 1:07:02and then the back squat is what I'm
- 1:07:04assuming will be in the finals.
- 1:07:07But, uh,
- 1:07:14um so then we move on to uh
- 1:07:17number five two rounds for time fifty
- 1:07:19chest to bar twenty five sandbag squats
- 1:07:21hundred fifty sled push ouch legs heavy uh
- 1:07:26sandbag squats i'm assuming we can
- 1:07:28probably hold the big sandbag here but
- 1:07:33yeah that's gonna be painful i mean i
- 1:07:35kind of hope you have to have it
- 1:07:37up there like i hope it's not the
- 1:07:39bear hug because people will just like hit
- 1:07:40it off their thighs
- 1:07:42Yeah, I don't think so.
- 1:07:43And I don't think it's going to,
- 1:07:44maybe just one shoulder.
- 1:07:47Is it two hundred one fifty?
- 1:07:49Yeah, it's pretty heavy.
- 1:07:51I don't know that I've done a one
- 1:07:53fifty squat.
- 1:07:55But that's a tough one.
- 1:07:58Those legs are going to be sore.
- 1:07:59Workout.
- 1:08:00I like this one.
- 1:08:00It'll be fun to watch.
- 1:08:01Yeah.
- 1:08:03um number six uh four time thirty twenty
- 1:08:08two calorie echo bike hundred and fifty
- 1:08:10yard swim rest two minutes hundred and
- 1:08:12fifty yard swim thirty twenty two cal echo
- 1:08:15bike carolyn's gonna be wearing her wings
- 1:08:18i mean
- 1:08:23participating in this one?
- 1:08:25This is early.
- 1:08:27This is I think the first one has
- 1:08:28a I think the first one has a
- 1:08:30five minute time cap.
- 1:08:31And then everyone originally,
- 1:08:33I think that's how they had posted it.
- 1:08:35So you have a five minute time cap
- 1:08:36rest two minutes and then you start the
- 1:08:38other way.
- 1:08:39But well,
- 1:08:40that would equal to the overall cap.
- 1:08:42So that makes sense.
- 1:08:44And then finally,
- 1:08:50we'll go to the four-time, thirty-five,
- 1:08:52twenty-five calorie row,
- 1:08:54twenty-five bar muscle-ups,
- 1:08:55hundred-fifty handstand walk,
- 1:08:57five squat snatch.
- 1:09:02What's the weight?
- 1:09:04It is two-forty-five, one-seventy.
- 1:09:07Jesus!
- 1:09:09Yeah, that's hard.
- 1:09:10I haven't tried that,
- 1:09:10but nine-minute time cap,
- 1:09:12that's going to be heavy for me on
- 1:09:13the barbell.
- 1:09:14That is insane.
- 1:09:15For me, it's like a weight that
- 1:09:18You know,
- 1:09:18I haven't touched a barbell in this
- 1:09:20workout.
- 1:09:21You know, you have a ten,
- 1:09:22fifteen minute corral.
- 1:09:24You have the bar muscle ups.
- 1:09:25You have the handstands.
- 1:09:26You're very fatigued in the shoulders,
- 1:09:28your high heart rate.
- 1:09:29And then for me,
- 1:09:30this is a weight that like I have
- 1:09:31to definitely respect.
- 1:09:33And it's a heavy weight for me.
- 1:09:35So I don't know how I'm going to
- 1:09:37feel when I get there.
- 1:09:37I haven't tested this workout.
- 1:09:39I'll probably give it a go at some
- 1:09:40point this week or next week.
- 1:09:45And then the people that are very,
- 1:09:46very strong,
- 1:09:47I think the front half will be irrelevant
- 1:09:49because if they're able to do the
- 1:09:50one-seventy and just go boom, boom, boom,
- 1:09:54or even, I mean, if you're Gi,
- 1:09:56you can maybe go touch and go.
- 1:09:58I think that's the big separator is the
- 1:10:00five-squat snatches,
- 1:10:01and the rest is all movements that anyone
- 1:10:03in this field would have no problem doing.
- 1:10:05So I think you could have just done
- 1:10:06almost a snatch there.
- 1:10:07This is exactly how I felt about the
- 1:10:10second workout at the Masters Games.
- 1:10:12Like,
- 1:10:13I don't like this workout for you guys.
- 1:10:15dumb.
- 1:10:17It's just not a test of fitness.
- 1:10:18I think it's fine,
- 1:10:21but I do think it's very skewed to
- 1:10:24the barbell at the end.
- 1:10:31Can I just say overall, I really,
- 1:10:33really like these events.
- 1:10:35I like that you have sled pushes.
- 1:10:37I like that you have a combine.
- 1:10:39I like that you have flip sleds.
- 1:10:42There's all the odd object stuff that we
- 1:10:46didn't have at the Masters CrossFit Games.
- 1:10:51Yeah.
- 1:10:51I think they did a great job with
- 1:10:52the programming.
- 1:10:54And they're not making them squat with a
- 1:10:56med ball.
- 1:10:56Yeah.
- 1:10:58There's events that I'm not going to like
- 1:10:59or I'm not going to do very well,
- 1:11:00but I still think it's a good test.
- 1:11:06Yeah.
- 1:11:07I love that it's sled pushes.
- 1:11:09I love that it's flip sleds and just
- 1:11:12grunt work at times.
- 1:11:15That's the gritty CrossFit that has to be
- 1:11:17a part of something.
- 1:11:19And if it's not there,
- 1:11:20it just doesn't feel special.
- 1:11:26I mean,
- 1:11:26I know when a local comp has a
- 1:11:28flip sled,
- 1:11:29we get all excited because it's something
- 1:11:31you don't get to touch every day.
- 1:11:36so uh those are those are um those
- 1:11:43are the workouts uh justin kotler agrees
- 1:11:47with prevo uh good competition for tutor i
- 1:11:58don't know how good he is running gonna
- 1:11:59be good yeah i don't feel like i
- 1:12:01don't even know how he'll be at the
- 1:12:03combine to be honest like i don't know
- 1:12:05I've not seen his athleticism on display
- 1:12:09to know.
- 1:12:11I think Carolyn's right.
- 1:12:12I think we don't know.
- 1:12:14The combine is a we don't know,
- 1:12:16unless you're Guy or Amy Kringle.
- 1:12:20You know certain people that will do well,
- 1:12:22but you don't know who's going to win
- 1:12:23because in a field of fifty,
- 1:12:26there's some outliers on this kind of
- 1:12:28stuff.
- 1:12:29I know I'm going to do well at
- 1:12:30the combine,
- 1:12:31but I don't know where I am.
- 1:12:33There could be freaks there.
- 1:12:36Um, like, you know,
- 1:12:37Kringle is going to do well at all
- 1:12:38of it, but for the most part,
- 1:12:40I think people are going to enjoy a
- 1:12:42couple of the workouts and then get
- 1:12:43exposed on other parts of the workouts.
- 1:12:45And I think that's exciting.
- 1:12:48Like that,
- 1:12:48that that's a good test of fitness.
- 1:12:50If you're kind of worried with some and
- 1:12:53excited for others.
- 1:12:54Um, yeah.
- 1:12:57How are some of the girls doing that
- 1:13:00were at the games?
- 1:13:00Is Lydia coming?
- 1:13:03Is Hannah Black?
- 1:13:04How's her back?
- 1:13:07They're signed up right now,
- 1:13:08so I think Lydia,
- 1:13:10Hannah Black is doing it.
- 1:13:12Annika's not doing it.
- 1:13:14Fi, who's a pro, not doing it.
- 1:13:18I think those are the two female pros
- 1:13:20that aren't doing it.
- 1:13:22And then, yeah, I mean, you have
- 1:13:25Who else from the games Burgos is there
- 1:13:26as well.
- 1:13:27Okay.
- 1:13:29She's not a pro,
- 1:13:30but she was an athlete that was at
- 1:13:31the games.
- 1:13:33But certainly will be in the picture to
- 1:13:35get a pro card this year.
- 1:13:38Yeah, even bench press.
- 1:13:40It's more than raw strength.
- 1:13:41If you don't keep the barbell path, right,
- 1:13:43you're not going to make the lift.
- 1:13:45Like it is consistency with raw strength.
- 1:13:51And that's going to be a question mark
- 1:13:53too.
- 1:13:53Like, yeah, this person's strong,
- 1:13:55but are they strong in a consistent manner
- 1:13:57with a bench press?
- 1:13:58Yep.
- 1:14:06Chivalry.
- 1:14:06Yep.
- 1:14:06I have the rosters if people want to
- 1:14:08see it, but it's fifties,
- 1:14:09a lot of names to read.
- 1:14:12I don't know how many sub-fives on the
- 1:14:15.
- 1:14:15I'm not sure,
- 1:14:16but I also don't know how they're going
- 1:14:18to calculate it if you get to start
- 1:14:20one yard behind the speed gates or not.
- 1:14:28Depending on where the gates start,
- 1:14:31it can affect how many people I think
- 1:14:34can get sub-five.
- 1:14:37Listen,
- 1:14:38sub-five is not that difficult for a male
- 1:14:41that's in shape.
- 1:14:42In high school,
- 1:14:43I ran sub five and I'm not that
- 1:14:45fast.
- 1:14:47These guys are in way better shape than
- 1:14:49I was.
- 1:14:52Like,
- 1:14:52I wouldn't be surprised if geese like four
- 1:14:54or five, four, six.
- 1:14:59It depends if they go a yard before
- 1:15:01he would be faster.
- 1:15:09I mean,
- 1:15:09I was like four nine in high school,
- 1:15:12but I did go sub five.
- 1:15:16And we had kids on my football team
- 1:15:17going four sixes, four sevens.
- 1:15:22So if they can do it as...
- 1:15:25The Apex were going on this past weekend,
- 1:15:27I think in Chicago.
- 1:15:29And you have a lot of the forty
- 1:15:30times there.
- 1:15:33For females,
- 1:15:34there's a few that were sub five.
- 1:15:37for the men.
- 1:15:38I think there was one guy that was
- 1:15:39like four to something.
- 1:15:41But again,
- 1:15:42I think they were starting a yard behind.
- 1:15:48Yeah,
- 1:15:49I think Patrick says NFL combined
- 1:15:51standards,
- 1:15:52and I think that is like a track
- 1:15:54start.
- 1:16:00And then it becomes...
- 1:16:02what do they allow for the starting
- 1:16:03position?
- 1:16:04Does it have to be a two point
- 1:16:05start?
- 1:16:05Can you do like,
- 1:16:08I don't know if they have certain rules,
- 1:16:09I guess we'll see what the standards are
- 1:16:13for how they want us to start.
- 1:16:16Three point or two point.
- 1:16:27So, okay.
- 1:16:30last thing i wanted to talk about tonight
- 1:16:32and seth already addressed this in the
- 1:16:34comments earlier um well there's okay the
- 1:16:42masters payouts were announced they came
- 1:16:49in lower than what people expected
- 1:16:52They were based on two hundred forty two
- 1:16:54thousand participants in the open.
- 1:16:56When CrossFit itself announced that there
- 1:16:58were two hundred fifty four thousand plus
- 1:17:02participants,
- 1:17:03meaning that twelve thousand participants
- 1:17:05and their money disappeared.
- 1:17:11And when,
- 1:17:13and I talked about this on Friday a
- 1:17:15little bit, but when spin posted this,
- 1:17:17the comments were about how much money the
- 1:17:20masters were getting or not getting,
- 1:17:22or was it fair?
- 1:17:23Was it not fair?
- 1:17:25The big story here is not that the
- 1:17:27big story is that there is money missing.
- 1:17:31Yeah.
- 1:17:33Yeah,
- 1:17:33the comments kind of drifted sideways
- 1:17:36there in the Masters.
- 1:17:37And that wasn't what the spin was bringing
- 1:17:40up.
- 1:17:40It was literally that it's based off a
- 1:17:43lower registration than what we're
- 1:17:45anticipating,
- 1:17:46which means not only our money would be
- 1:17:48lower, but the individual's money,
- 1:17:50the team's or whatever.
- 1:17:51It's just calculating differently.
- 1:17:55Well,
- 1:17:55and it also happened with the individual
- 1:17:58athletes in the elite division.
- 1:18:02They were based on two forty two as
- 1:18:04well.
- 1:18:04So their paychecks were lower than they
- 1:18:07anticipated them to be.
- 1:18:10I've actually seen record where if you
- 1:18:13count all the people that registered for
- 1:18:15the open up until the open was over,
- 1:18:18it's even greater than the two fifty four.
- 1:18:22But that number was never announced.
- 1:18:24CrossFit announced a number when the open
- 1:18:26started.
- 1:18:27Twenty five point one or twenty point one.
- 1:18:32And I've seen that there were actually
- 1:18:34more people that signed up after that.
- 1:18:38And to sign up means you have to
- 1:18:40pay the twenty dollars.
- 1:18:44So there's at least twelve thousand
- 1:18:47registrations missing,
- 1:18:48possibly way more than that.
- 1:18:54So I emailed CrossFit about it.
- 1:18:57And I got an email back saying that
- 1:19:00from one of the support people that they
- 1:19:02were going to go back and look at
- 1:19:04it and come back to me with an
- 1:19:05answer.
- 1:19:07I mean, if you're going to announce...
- 1:19:09So they were going to look into it.
- 1:19:12Yeah.
- 1:19:12I think if you're going to announce that
- 1:19:13two hundred fifty two thousand people
- 1:19:15signed up for the open,
- 1:19:16you should probably use that number.
- 1:19:19Moving forward.
- 1:19:20And that's probably on the low side of
- 1:19:26the actual breakdown per division is
- 1:19:28identical to what they did last year um
- 1:19:31like of the ten percent eight point five
- 1:19:33went to the winner three point five the
- 1:19:35second then it was two percent to the
- 1:19:38third and then each division is the same
- 1:19:41breakdown it's just the total is off i
- 1:19:44think from what signed up in the open
- 1:19:48but i think like from from my position
- 1:19:51i think it's a difference of maybe
- 1:19:53fifteen hundred dollars or something like
- 1:19:57that but someone like Sprite could be a
- 1:19:58difference of almost fifteen thousand that
- 1:20:01he would be lower and then when you
- 1:20:03start adding all of the tax or the
- 1:20:06state tax stuff like that will you know
- 1:20:10it ends up mattering so you just want
- 1:20:12it to be accurate that's all well just
- 1:20:16an explanation not just blindly throw it
- 1:20:18out there one it was supposed to be
- 1:20:21announced prior to the game starting
- 1:20:24It came out two weeks after and it's
- 1:20:27not right.
- 1:20:28It's not correct.
- 1:20:29According to the announcement you made
- 1:20:32about the open.
- 1:20:33Right.
- 1:20:34And yet people complain about the WFP and
- 1:20:36the athletes making more money.
- 1:20:40At least,
- 1:20:42you know what you're making there.
- 1:20:45I know there was a lot of complaints
- 1:20:46in there about like.
- 1:20:49Thirty five, thirty nine,
- 1:20:50making more and then drop off stuff like.
- 1:20:54But that's not the story.
- 1:20:55No, I know.
- 1:20:56But I feel like if you're like,
- 1:20:59if you're trying to allocate money,
- 1:21:01I feel like the smartest thing to do
- 1:21:04is, well, you know,
- 1:21:05if a thousand seventy plus people sign up,
- 1:21:09that's their pool of
- 1:21:12money and and how many thirty five to
- 1:21:14thirty nine sign up and how many forty
- 1:21:16to forty like honestly it should probably
- 1:21:18like it's increasing yeah like every age
- 1:21:21group is just yeah and individuals
- 1:21:24eighteen to thirty four should not get
- 1:21:27they need they need more participation if
- 1:21:29they want more money uh tessa nobody's
- 1:21:33complaining right now anymore
- 1:21:40Because like there's a division of like
- 1:21:42the forty to like, I don't know,
- 1:21:43to fifty four.
- 1:21:44Maybe you have the same as what you're
- 1:21:46saying.
- 1:21:46Basically, each age group,
- 1:21:48it should slowly start to go down as
- 1:21:50the number of participants in that age
- 1:21:52group is also lower.
- 1:21:53Yeah,
- 1:21:54that's how I think it should be allocated.
- 1:21:57But yes,
- 1:21:57I think I think that makes sense.
- 1:22:01The thing that I.
- 1:22:05The other numbers I was finding when I
- 1:22:06was looking for the open numbers is that
- 1:22:09sixty one percent of the open
- 1:22:12registrations were masters athletes.
- 1:22:15Yes, that's my point.
- 1:22:17Sixty one percent.
- 1:22:19So when you're nickel and diming the
- 1:22:21people that are paying all the money,
- 1:22:24that's a really, really freaking bad look.
- 1:22:32And then the team's registration,
- 1:22:34they don't get a dime.
- 1:22:40You know what?
- 1:22:43I remember the team,
- 1:22:44they don't get a dime,
- 1:22:45and then they also don't get drug tested.
- 1:22:47They don't get drug tested,
- 1:22:49so they maybe shouldn't get paid.
- 1:22:51But I think it's only, what, ATP?
- 1:22:55what they do, twenty and twenty of each,
- 1:22:58so eighty people, eighty athletes,
- 1:23:00you're better off asking the sponsor,
- 1:23:03I mean,
- 1:23:04I wouldn't like it as a master, but,
- 1:23:07like,
- 1:23:07you're better off giving them the full
- 1:23:09kit.
- 1:23:10That was the big pull for teams.
- 1:23:13You know, three grand, four grand of gear.
- 1:23:16Like, all that, like, getting the bag,
- 1:23:19the shoes, like,
- 1:23:21it's twenty of them in each age bracket,
- 1:23:23like,
- 1:23:25supply them and you don't you don't have
- 1:23:27to pay them but like it was always
- 1:23:28about the kit for so many people i
- 1:23:30know that was the whole reason i was
- 1:23:31going like i was never like that's what's
- 1:23:34frustrating about this whole thing and
- 1:23:35then to yes nickel and dime us and
- 1:23:37not like well not only shortchange you
- 1:23:42guys on the kit now but then then
- 1:23:45claim exclusivity when other sponsors want
- 1:23:47to give you stuff that's the the part
- 1:23:50of the masters
- 1:23:54Because you're connected to the CrossFit
- 1:23:56Games.
- 1:24:00Well,
- 1:24:01the price to register keeps going up,
- 1:24:04but the things that we're getting keep
- 1:24:06going down.
- 1:24:07And before, like,
- 1:24:08let's say we paid two fifty or four
- 1:24:09hundred, whatever, to go to the games.
- 1:24:12You took home so much more than what
- 1:24:14you paid for.
- 1:24:15So it was kind of cool.
- 1:24:17Now you're not.
- 1:24:20you know,
- 1:24:20you're not getting even close to that.
- 1:24:22And then the amount of events that we're
- 1:24:24actually doing are decreasing as well.
- 1:24:27So like, it's, yeah, but like,
- 1:24:29I remember when I first made the games,
- 1:24:31it was all about the kit,
- 1:24:32and they've had cuts.
- 1:24:33And it was like, make the cut.
- 1:24:34So you can get an extra shirt, like,
- 1:24:38you know,
- 1:24:39I just wanted to get the kit,
- 1:24:40want to get a sign of my name
- 1:24:42on it like that, you know,
- 1:24:43and for the teenagers, like,
- 1:24:45that would be super, like,
- 1:24:47cool for them to have like a full
- 1:24:49kit.
- 1:24:52Wonder how long this CFO search will last.
- 1:24:56Well,
- 1:24:56apparently it's way more needed than we
- 1:24:58thought.
- 1:25:04Sounds like my grocery bill.
- 1:25:06That is correct.
- 1:25:07Your grocery bill keeps going up and the
- 1:25:10amount of food you get to bring home
- 1:25:11is less and less.
- 1:25:15And Jay Birch, your math is off.
- 1:25:17It's only twenty dollars to register for
- 1:25:19the open.
- 1:25:22What did he say it was?
- 1:25:24Thirty.
- 1:25:30I paid seven dollars for two onions today.
- 1:25:34I went to a farmer's market and paid
- 1:25:35way less than that, dude.
- 1:25:44Anyway, so all that's happened.
- 1:25:44The queue has been announced that it is
- 1:25:45happening August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:46August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:47August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:48August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:49August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:50August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:51August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:53August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:54August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:55August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:56August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:57August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:57August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:58August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:25:59August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:00August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:03August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:04August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:04August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:05August, August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:06August, August, August, August,
- 1:26:07August
- 1:26:07Did you say it's August twenty-first
- 1:26:09through the twenty-third?
- 1:26:10Yep.
- 1:26:11So it's during WFP?
- 1:26:13No, WFP's the next weekend.
- 1:26:14Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:17You still going?
- 1:26:18Yeah.
- 1:26:22Okay.
- 1:26:22I don't know why I was thinking, yeah,
- 1:26:23that's the twenty-eighth.
- 1:26:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:25It's on my calendar.
- 1:26:28But that's a, that's a tough,
- 1:26:30because the rogue qualifier is the hardest
- 1:26:34qualifier there is with the hardest
- 1:26:37standards.
- 1:26:38Yeah.
- 1:26:38You got to weigh everything in.
- 1:26:41It's forty minutes of videoing before you
- 1:26:43can even start the workout.
- 1:26:45I mean, that's how WFP is lesson learned.
- 1:26:48And then a week later,
- 1:26:48you've got to compete at WFP.
- 1:26:51That that's a tough back to back.
- 1:26:59um so anyway it's happening it always gets
- 1:27:05some big names um i guess that rogue
- 1:27:08has sent out invitations to people they're
- 1:27:11not allowed to say if they got it
- 1:27:12or not um angelo let it leak today
- 1:27:16that page got hers okay uh so we
- 1:27:19know one i guess i'm betting you can
- 1:27:23assume that james and amy got theirs
- 1:27:28But we don't know because just because you
- 1:27:30get it doesn't mean you accept it.
- 1:27:33The real question is how many spots for
- 1:27:35the online qualifier?
- 1:27:36Right.
- 1:27:36That's the question because that hasn't
- 1:27:38been consistent year to year and it's
- 1:27:40changed.
- 1:27:41So that's what I'm curious about.
- 1:27:43How many spots are going to allow for
- 1:27:45the online?
- 1:27:48After Scotland, where's the next location?
- 1:27:50Columbus, Ohio.
- 1:27:53One can hope.
- 1:27:54i think so because they're building right
- 1:27:56now um more like didn't they take over
- 1:28:00like even more land there so i bet
- 1:28:04you when that's done they're coming back
- 1:28:06to columbus that's where the games needs
- 1:28:08to go they um yeah so the the
- 1:28:13warehouse facility the whole bit was a
- 1:28:15city block and i think now it is
- 1:28:18too
- 1:28:22It is so massive.
- 1:28:25Even when they first built on that
- 1:28:28location, they had Rogue,
- 1:28:31the Invitational,
- 1:28:32in the front yard of that building.
- 1:28:34That front yard is gone.
- 1:28:38Where they held Rogue the first year is
- 1:28:40now gone.
- 1:28:45But they had five buildings in Columbus,
- 1:28:47and they're consolidating it all to the
- 1:28:49one location.
- 1:28:51And they have built enough building to do
- 1:28:53that.
- 1:28:57It is so big.
- 1:28:59It's going to touch the convention center.
- 1:29:08Really?
- 1:29:09I'm just kidding.
- 1:29:10It just feels that way.
- 1:29:12Because they're both on Fifth Avenue,
- 1:29:14the convention center, and Rogue.
- 1:29:17And Rogue is just moving closer and closer
- 1:29:19to touch butt up with the convention
- 1:29:22center.
- 1:29:29So the parking lot got changed to
- 1:29:31building,
- 1:29:32and then the parking lot got moved to
- 1:29:34where they held the Rogue Invitational.
- 1:29:39So it was like building over the parking
- 1:29:41lot,
- 1:29:42then parking lot got moved out closer to
- 1:29:45the street.
- 1:29:50I used to work on Fifth Avenue.
- 1:29:51I was only ten minutes from Rogue
- 1:29:53headquarters.
- 1:29:54It was an easy lunch hour stop by.
- 1:29:58Now I work from home and it's like
- 1:29:59a half an hour.
- 1:30:05But I love that first Rogue.
- 1:30:07That might have been my favorite in-person
- 1:30:09competition of all time.
- 1:30:12Was that the one that they had the
- 1:30:14tug-of-war with the teams?
- 1:30:15They did.
- 1:30:17And the shooting.
- 1:30:18And the rifle shoot.
- 1:30:21Yeah, with the skiers.
- 1:30:22But it was the stuff indoors where they,
- 1:30:25in the factory,
- 1:30:26they built stands and a rig and the
- 1:30:30whole bit.
- 1:30:30It was so cool.
- 1:30:31And then,
- 1:30:33seventeen point two open announcement was
- 1:30:37held there too.
- 1:30:39And I was there for that.
- 1:30:41And they built inside the factory again,
- 1:30:44which was so cool.
- 1:30:48Wouldn't that be a cool show?
- 1:30:52Lunch with the Clydesdale at Rogue HQ.
- 1:30:57Right now,
- 1:30:57I just have to be out in the
- 1:30:58parking lot with my iPad.
- 1:31:01Dear Bill and Katie, please let me in.
- 1:31:11Andrew, stop arguing with me.
- 1:31:14The one side of it's on High Street.
- 1:31:16The north side of it is on Fifth
- 1:31:18Avenue.
- 1:31:26It's an L.
- 1:31:33Larry and Shelly are at every major
- 1:31:35competition.
- 1:31:36They were there too.
- 1:31:37Love that one.
- 1:31:37I think that's where we first saw Colton
- 1:31:39Mertens compete.
- 1:31:42The first time I saw Colton was at
- 1:31:44Mayhem.
- 1:31:44At twenty one.
- 1:31:48Yeah.
- 1:31:50When I saw Lex complete.
- 1:31:54Yeah, she was there that year.
- 1:31:56She did well.
