Transcript
- 0:00Hello and welcome to the weekly astrology podcast Cozy with the
- 0:04Cosmos, where we meet every Thursday we light our candles,
- 0:09we grab our blinkies, we snuggle up, we get so cozy and we talk
- 0:14all things cosmos. I am your host, astrologer and
- 0:18coach Sarah Posh, and this week's episode brings us to our
- 0:22focus topic on Malefic's the planets Saturn and Mars.
- 0:27Before we dive into the focus on and Saturn and Mars, I want to
- 0:31take a moment to just center ourselves together for this
- 0:34episode. So I invite you if you can, if
- 0:37it's safe, go ahead. Find a comfortable position,
- 0:40close your eyes, and just invite a deep, slow, steady breath in
- 0:46through your nose and open mouth.
- 0:51Slow, steady, exhale and allow these words to rest in your
- 0:59heart and mind today. May we feel Saturn's steady
- 1:03rings drawing a boundary of protection around us, a reminder
- 1:07that we are grounded and that we can hold the weight of wisdom.
- 1:11And may we imagine Mars flame sparking inside of us, the
- 1:16courage, clarity and fire we need to cut through what no
- 1:20longer serves. Together, we welcome this
- 1:23endurance of Saturn and the courage of Mars as our teachers
- 1:27today to complete this opening ritual, I invite us all to go
- 1:31ahead again. Take that deep, steady inhale
- 1:35through the nose, open mouth, exhale.
- 1:46Let it go. So this week our focus topic is
- 1:50all about the malefic in astrology.
- 1:52Why this week? Why now are we bringing in this
- 1:56focus topic? Well, if you listen to last
- 1:58week's episode, we opened this new lunar cycle, the Virgo New
- 2:03Moon partial solar eclipse, and we talked about the heavy
- 2:06influence of Mars and Saturn throughout this lunar cycle.
- 2:11These planets are very active as teachers, as hard lessons.
- 2:16We are being initiated into Saturn and Mars throughout the
- 2:20cycle. So because these planets are so
- 2:22active and their themes are going to continue to participate
- 2:25loudly throughout the cycle, I thought it might be helpful to
- 2:29educate ourselves to inform ourselves a little bit more
- 2:32about what Malefic's really are. So in today's episode, we're
- 2:36zooming in on Saturn and Mars themselves, the two Malefic's
- 2:40we're going to understand and why ancient astrologers gave
- 2:43them this reputation and how we can actually work with their
- 2:47challenges. They're challenging transits as
- 2:50part of our growth. And next week we'll be doing our
- 2:53full moon horoscopes and tarot card pulls for every rising sign
- 2:57for that Aries full Moon ruled by Mars.
- 3:01And the same day that we have that Aries full Moon, we've got
- 3:04Mercury entering into Scorpio, Mars's home sign Co present with
- 3:08Mars and reactivating that intense square to Pluto and
- 3:12Aquarius. So if you aren't already, go
- 3:15ahead. Make sure that you're subscribed
- 3:16to this channel. Turn your notifications on.
- 3:18That way you're going to get notified and catch that episode
- 3:21to hear how these malefic themes are filtering into your own
- 3:25rising sign story throughout this lunar cycle.
- 3:28If you know anybody who could benefit from hearing about these
- 3:32malefic's in astrology, be sure to share this video with your
- 3:35friends or maybe your foes. OK, so with that, let's dive in.
- 3:40I want to start with the actual definition of malefic.
- 3:43Malefic comes from the word maleficus and this translates as
- 3:48bringer of harm. The planets Mars and Saturn are
- 3:51what we consider the malefic or the bringers of harm.
- 3:55And this is in contrast with Venus and Jupiter, the
- 3:59astrological benefits or the quote UN quote good bringers,
- 4:03the life givers, the providers of support.
- 4:06But here's the key Malefic's aren't evil.
- 4:10They are not punishments. They are simply the parts of
- 4:13life that feel hard, cold, or sharp.
- 4:17Even the ancients didn't view Olympics as moral punishments.
- 4:21They saw them as a part of the blend of existence, the tension
- 4:25that makes growth possible. As Valens reminds us in the
- 4:28anthology and I quote, the entire universe is mingled with
- 4:32good and evil, the favorable and the unfavorable.
- 4:37It is not possible for men to receive all good things without
- 4:40the bad, nor all bad things without some good.
- 4:43For it is necessary that life be a blend so that we may endure
- 4:47both what is useful and what is difficult, and locating where we
- 4:51are in time and space. Notice where are Saturn's walls
- 4:56or Mars fire active in your life right now?
- 5:00And instead of maybe resisting start to invite, start to ask
- 5:05what would it be like to work with this experience as my
- 5:09teacher, my ally, instead of my enemy?
- 5:12My intention is for this to really set the stage of our
- 5:16understanding. In today's focus topic, we're
- 5:19going to dive now into the specifics.
- 5:21The natures of both Saturn and Mars as planets, as Malefic's in
- 5:26astrology. Let's start with Saturn.
- 5:28So the temperament of Saturn is cold and dry.
- 5:31We're also known as melancholic. Saturn's nature is heavy, slow
- 5:37and constricting, and the experience of Saturn in life can
- 5:42feel like this confrontation with necessity, with needing to
- 5:47make difficult choices that require sacrifice, sometimes
- 5:51loss, and a sense of a bearing weight and responsibility.
- 5:57Saturn tends to constrict or withhold, and Saturn is also the
- 6:02ruler of time and so Saturn transits can feel like they last
- 6:06forever. They don't.
- 6:08But Saturn is a slower moving planet.
- 6:11It takes Saturn about 2 1/2 years to just go through one
- 6:15sign. So because the Saturn transit is
- 6:18slower, the growth tend to be experienced a little bit deeper.
- 6:23It takes a little bit longer. We need that Saturn time to
- 6:26really mature and develop, whatever that is, that Saturn's
- 6:30helping us to grow or to change. In the ancient text, Valen said
- 6:35that Saturn is cold and dry. He brings about obstruction,
- 6:39sorrow, despair, grief, misfortune, poverty, and a
- 6:43manner of life of toil and hardship.
- 6:47Yet when well situated, he makes men serious, profound,
- 6:50laborious, competent and authoritative.
- 6:53I will also note that something that is really helpful to
- 6:56remember about Saturn is that Saturn is always the hardest in
- 7:02our first 30 years of life because we just aren't old
- 7:05enough and mature enough and experienced enough in life to
- 7:10understand the benefit or the wisdom of Saturn.
- 7:14So if you're somebody who's under 30 years old, you haven't
- 7:17yet started your Saturn return, your first Saturn return, don't
- 7:21worry, you're going to feel a change, a complete change in
- 7:25your relationship to Saturn, hopefully after that Saturn
- 7:28return. And if you're wondering what a
- 7:31Saturn return is, that phrase, maybe you've heard it before.
- 7:34That's something to definitely look into and maybe even get a
- 7:38reading with a professional astrologer because it is one of
- 7:41the most important and pivotal transits that we all go through
- 7:45between the ages of 28 and 31. So now let's talk a little bit
- 7:48about just the fundamentals, the essential nature of Mars.
- 7:51Mars temperament is hot and dry, also known as choleric, and the
- 7:56nature of Mars is sharp, severing, fiery and restless.
- 8:00Mars brings a sense of ambition and drive and also a fight.
- 8:05So sometimes it can be an actual confrontation or competition
- 8:09that were put into, but Mars is really invoking that fight
- 8:13within us. It is our sense and need for
- 8:17assertion, self assertion, assertion of boundaries.
- 8:20So the gift of Mars is to bring the fire of courage, the fire of
- 8:26inspiration and motivation and ambition with Mars power to cut
- 8:31it has a decisive quality to it. So we can begin to take decisive
- 8:36actions. And also Mars teaches us how to
- 8:40perform or how to show up and rise to the challenges when
- 8:45we're met with any kind of crisis.
- 8:46Mars is the warrior inside all of us.
- 8:50In the ancient texts, Valence says about Mars.
- 8:53Mars is fiery and dry. He signifies force, wars,
- 8:58plunder, capture, banishment, anger, lying in wait and
- 9:02violence. When well placed, he makes men
- 9:05command armies, lead ventures and be victorious in struggles.
- 9:10So Saturn constricts and withholds while Mars cuts and
- 9:15pushes. Both can feel punishing when we
- 9:18don't have a necessarily constructive relationship with
- 9:22these planets for whatever reason.
- 9:25But in their philosophical framework, these malefics, these
- 9:29are actually necessary forces that temper and balance us and
- 9:35our experience of life to develop more strength, to
- 9:38develop more wisdom and endurance.
- 9:40So taking a little pause here, comment below.
- 9:43Do you know where your Mars and Saturn are in your Natal chart?
- 9:47Or tell me what is your current relationship status with Mars,
- 9:51Saturn, Are you on the fence? Are you all in?
- 9:54Are you all out? I'd love to hear.
- 9:57And I also want to share that my personal relationship, it wasn't
- 10:00until a little bit later into my astrological little journey that
- 10:04I actually found out and came to terms with the fact that Mars is
- 10:09the strongest planet, like by far in my Natal chart.
- 10:13Saturn is also incredibly dignified and strong in my Natal
- 10:17chart, responsible for multiple planets and other places.
- 10:21So I've kind of been forced this lifetime to really get to know
- 10:26these planets, and I will say that at this point in my
- 10:29journey, I can say I'm a huge advocate for them.
- 10:32They have been some of the most constructive planets, not only
- 10:36in my own psychological and emotional development and
- 10:40well-being and makeup as a person, but going through really
- 10:43significant transits and timing that activate Mars and Saturn.
- 10:48I really recognize that for me personally, they're nuanced.
- 10:52They're felt very constructive and rewarded.
- 10:56And so this is part of what I want to make sure that's
- 10:58communicated in this episode, is that just like what we're doing
- 11:02in our living chart work group mentorship program, where we're
- 11:07really talking about this nuance of Natal context, this nuance of
- 11:12the planetary expression and the relationship that can feel
- 11:16constructive or not. So I really encourage you take
- 11:20some time to investigate your own personal Mars and Saturn and
- 11:25also investigate and reflect as we go through this episode.
- 11:29What are the things that maybe hit and feel a little bit
- 11:33sensitive? Like I don't like that word, you
- 11:37know, or they feel empowering. What is it activating inside of
- 11:41you, inside of your body? And that's something to maybe
- 11:44lean into as its reference point for the developmental point or
- 11:48place that you're in when it comes to your relationship with
- 11:52these planets, these more difficult planets in astrology.
- 11:55So coming back to this question, we brought in the beginning this
- 11:59definition of malefic as evil doers, right?
- 12:03My question to propose for myself and for us is is it true
- 12:09that struggle is inherently bad, or is it a valid part of our
- 12:14cosmic necessity for a greater wholeness?
- 12:17Is it true that a Saturn transit that withholds the ability to
- 12:22get what you want for that immediate gratification?
- 12:26Is it true that that's bad, or what is that teaching us?
- 12:30What is that forcing us to develop within ourselves?
- 12:33Is it true that the severing quality of Mars is bad, or is it
- 12:39necessary in order to teach us and to encourage us to cut away
- 12:45and sever what doesn't really serve us?
- 12:48So let's pull in a couple everyday examples to kind of
- 12:50ground this and relate to this in reality.
- 12:54Let's talk about Saturn. So have you ever experienced a
- 12:56moment in your life where you decisively set a new standard
- 13:02for what it is that you wanted in your life?
- 13:05So this could be a relationship. Maybe you set a new standard of
- 13:08the kind of partner or the kind of friendship that you were
- 13:11going to engage with. You set a boundary within
- 13:13yourself of what you will say yes to and what you will say no
- 13:17to. And at first you expected this
- 13:20to kind of result in an immediate manifestation of that
- 13:24new standard of relationship. But maybe you had to go through
- 13:28months or years of feeling lonely, feeling like you were
- 13:33being withheld from connection, from that standard of
- 13:37connection, from intimacy. And in that Saturn time, that
- 13:41window of waiting, when you reflect back, you know, do you
- 13:46recognize a deeper level of authority and commitment and
- 13:51internal self respect for upholding your agreement to hold
- 13:56that standard, to hold that boundary?
- 13:58Another example of this is deciding to divert from a career
- 14:03or a work life that wasn't truly a value to you.
- 14:07It didn't have a deeper meaning or purpose behind it.
- 14:10And you decided to start your own business, to follow your
- 14:14dream. And Saturn forced you to not get
- 14:18the immediate reward, the immediate success.
- 14:21Saturn said you have to prove that you mean it, that you want
- 14:25it, that even if it doesn't happen right away, you're really
- 14:30going to follow through on that commitment.
- 14:31So there's a delay in the reward, there's a delay in the
- 14:35success. And when that success finally
- 14:38does come, imagine how much you don't even need the success to
- 14:44validate what Saturn has forced you to validate within yourself
- 14:49in that process of waiting. So let's take this to Mars.
- 14:52Let's take this to our fiery malefic.
- 14:56Think about a time when you reached a certain threshold,
- 15:01kind of like a breaking point in a relationship, when there was a
- 15:06sudden eruption of confrontation, a fight.
- 15:10There was no longer denying the harm of holding on to this
- 15:16dynamic or relationship. It forced you to confront what
- 15:20you needed to end, what you needed to cut away.
- 15:24And it wasn't until it pushed you, which Mars does, to a place
- 15:28where it was so hard, it was so uncomfortable, it was so maybe
- 15:34even painful, that you were forced to cut it away to make
- 15:38that end, to sever it. Another example of Mars is, I
- 15:43think about my relationship to starting Muay Thai.
- 15:46I did that during a very pivotal, life changing Mars
- 15:50transit. Pluto was squaring my Natal Mars
- 15:54in Aries, and I was really being trained on how to fight.
- 15:58What does it mean to really stand up for yourself, to defend
- 16:01yourself? And how do you do so in a way
- 16:04that doesn't feel violent, that doesn't feel like it's hurting
- 16:08just to hurt, or causing harm just to cause harm?
- 16:12There is a constructive place for fights.
- 16:15There is a constructive place for defense.
- 16:18And so I remember that being this really slow churn, slow
- 16:22burn, Platonic process of coming to terms with this healthy
- 16:27function and use of Mars to say this is not OK.
- 16:32This is something worth defending.
- 16:35This is something worth fighting and standing up and pushing
- 16:39through to the point of exhaustion to prove to myself
- 16:44that I'm worth it, that there is a me that is worth defending.
- 16:48So now, using this everyday example of this current moment
- 16:51we're living in during this eclipse cycle and the intense
- 16:55squares with Mars and Scorpio to Pluto and Aquarius, what is it
- 16:59feeling like for you right now? Checking in with yourself?
- 17:02The things that are coming up that really feel like a
- 17:05struggle. They feel like the hard, the
- 17:08unwanted parts of our human experience.
- 17:12Do they feel painful yet liberating?
- 17:15Do they feel like this invitation for you to strengthen
- 17:19something within yourself related to these themes of
- 17:23Saturn, Mars that we're talking about?
- 17:24Are you willing to engage or to invite this vantage point of
- 17:30working with what is hard and the intention of what that could
- 17:35develop for you long term? And if I ask you that question
- 17:39and you're feeling a little bit stuck or a little bit like I
- 17:42have no idea where to start or I don't even know where I'm at, I
- 17:46thought it might be kind of helpful to talk about these kind
- 17:49of symbolic stages of growth. So if Saturn feels hopeless in
- 17:54the moment or Mars is leaving us feeling overwhelmed by the
- 17:59struggle or the pain, how do we grow our relationship with them
- 18:03over time? I'm going to propose a sort of
- 18:06stage of development, a stage of growth in our evolution and
- 18:11relationship to these planets and kind of describe what I view
- 18:15as the way to locate where we're at in a transit or within our
- 18:20relationship to them within our Natal context by where we kind
- 18:24of land on this spectrum. So I'm going to list 5 proposed
- 18:28stages of growth with malefic Stage 1.
- 18:33Being overwhelmed, overwhelmed with Saturn means that it feels
- 18:38crushing. We feel that sense of
- 18:41hopelessness. We might feel a sense of
- 18:43despair. It's a sense of feeling
- 18:46overwhelmed by the weight of time and the weight of
- 18:51withholding, the lack of receiving what it is that we
- 18:55really want. With Mars, the sense of being
- 18:58overwhelmed is likely to present itself as a sense of chaos.
- 19:03The things that are happening that feel like this overwhelming
- 19:07sense of not feeling in control, feeling overwhelmed by what's
- 19:12coming at us, and this inability to take charge or to assert with
- 19:18agency, to feel in control rather than just in crisis or
- 19:23overwhelmed in crisis. Stage 2 and our growth with the
- 19:28malefic is recognition of repeating patterns.
- 19:32With Saturn, we notice we're hitting the same walls.
- 19:36The same limits tend to come again and again and again.
- 19:41We feel like we take one step forward and Saturn puts us three
- 19:46steps back. But what is our pattern in
- 19:50showing up to that wall, to that frustration, to that limitation?
- 19:54That's the repeating pattern that Saturn needs us to identify
- 19:58before we can go to Stage 3. With Mars Stage 2 and the
- 20:03repeating pattern, it's like the same fights.
- 20:06The same feeling of helplessness, the same feeling
- 20:10of everything's out of control. So maybe there's also a
- 20:13collapse, a pattern of collapse in response to the overwhelm of
- 20:18the chaos of Mars. Or there's a pattern and a
- 20:21repeating loop around how we fight.
- 20:24The fights we tend to have end in the same way.
- 20:29Is there a healthy resolution or repair pattern?
- 20:32If we're still not developed with Mars, it's likely that
- 20:35that's not the case. And if that's you, don't worry.
- 20:39We're all human and we're all always waking up to where we
- 20:44are, just in a loop of unconscious repetition of old
- 20:48patterns that we're ready to outgrow or ready to interrupt
- 20:52and do something different. You're not alone.
- 20:55I'm constantly growing along this spiral path.
- 20:59So that brings us to stage 3. Stage 1 is overwhelmed.
- 21:03Stage 2 is the recognition of the repeating pattern.
- 21:07Same frustrations, same fights. Now, stage 3 we start turning a
- 21:13corner. This is when we start
- 21:15consciously cultivating a new response to Saturn and Mars.
- 21:19So with Saturn, instead of repeating our frustration, our
- 21:24hopelessness, our despair, we start developing a response of
- 21:28patience, of trust, of discipline and follow through.
- 21:33We start sacrificing our desire to get what it is that we want
- 21:37now, and we start really giving ourselves wholeheartedly willing
- 21:44to wait and follow through on our commitments.
- 21:47With Mars, we start to consciously cultivate a new
- 21:51response to these same fights. With Mars, I really see this
- 21:56word skillful being the thing that is the most important or
- 22:00the most beneficial when we're starting to interrupt the
- 22:04repeating pattern and bring in a new conscious response.
- 22:09The places where we collapse or the places where we feel
- 22:12defeated or we go into unhealthy fighting mechanisms, we go fight
- 22:17or flights more even, like wanting to force or overpower.
- 22:22There's something new that we can learn here, and I think this
- 22:26is something I've learned with Mars through time and through
- 22:29life. The need to seek out teachers,
- 22:32role models, and containers for actually learning these new
- 22:39things as skills. Really learning, educating
- 22:42myself well, if I'm going to be better at asserting a boundary,
- 22:47I need to learn what an actual healthy boundary is.
- 22:49I need to learn the difference between function and
- 22:52dysfunction. There's a skill development of
- 22:54awareness there. And then I also need to learn
- 22:57the skillfulness of negotiation, of communication.
- 23:01So it's not just about the skill of assertion itself.
- 23:05It's not just about getting a sword.
- 23:07It's also knowing when to use a sword and when to not, how to
- 23:11hold the sword properly, where to start the swing, where to
- 23:14follow through. And so with Mars, it's kind of
- 23:17like we're cultivating these conscious check and balances
- 23:21that weren't previously there. We're evolving our healthy
- 23:25understanding of function and dysfunction, of what's right, of
- 23:28what's wrong, of our yeses and our Nos.
- 23:31And then stage 4 is actual functional use.
- 23:35We spend a lot of time in stage 3.
- 23:38We spend a lot of time learning and failing and learning and
- 23:41failing. But then when we get to stage 4,
- 23:44this functional use, we start feeling and experiencing Saturn
- 23:50as discipline. We start experiencing Mars as
- 23:54courage. So this might be an example of,
- 23:58instead of procrastinating on the things that we need to do in
- 24:03order to accomplish our goals, now we're at a place with Saturn
- 24:07where we're willing to do the thing we didn't want to do.
- 24:09That frustrates us, but follow through because we've invoked
- 24:13that conscious cultivation of commitment, of sacrifice, of
- 24:19follow through. Now we develop a sense of deeper
- 24:22self trust, right to follow through on ourselves.
- 24:26So that's a functional use of Saturn, self-discipline.
- 24:30We set small goals, we follow through on them, and we feel
- 24:33rewarded with a greater sense of self trust and self respect.
- 24:37A functional use of Mars is courage.
- 24:39Now that we're not wasting our energy fighting the wrong
- 24:43fights, or we're collapsing in the face of what feels like a
- 24:47crisis or a challenge that feels overwhelming and chaotic.
- 24:51Now Mars gives us the courage to know when to set the sword down
- 24:55versus when to pick the sword up and execute, putting something
- 24:59to an end, standing up for ourselves.
- 25:01Another really functional use of Mars and courage is the
- 25:05willingness to fail. The willingness to be brave
- 25:08enough to put ourselves out there, to try to try something
- 25:13new that we haven't tried before, or to try it in a way
- 25:15we've never done it before. And to know that we have the
- 25:18Mars strength to learn from that mistake or that failure to pick
- 25:24ourselves back up. There's a new form of resiliency
- 25:28that Mars helps us to bring into that functional use of courage.
- 25:32As we start moving from stage 3 of cultivating conscious
- 25:36responses to Saturn and Mars problems, and we start
- 25:40experiencing for ourselves the benefits internally, externally
- 25:45of stage 4 functional uses of these planets.
- 25:48In stage 5, we reach hopefully a place of integration.
- 25:52And this is the moment where that definition, that perception
- 25:56and relationship of malefic as bad, seeing our struggles as
- 26:01enemies now our struggles become our greatest allies.
- 26:05Our relationship to Saturn and Mars becomes not only
- 26:09functional, but it becomes very necessary and useful and
- 26:13resourceful. We need them.
- 26:15They're some of the strongest players on our team, especially
- 26:20for some of the most difficult moments of life.
- 26:23So taking a moment to pause checking in, I'm wondering how
- 26:26do you relate to these stages of growth or evolution with the
- 26:30malefic with Saturn and Mars? Is there any area or arena in
- 26:34your life currently that you can locate where you're at on this
- 26:39spectrum of relationship evolution and growth?
- 26:43Maybe in relationship fields, you are totally integrated When
- 26:47it comes to Mars, you can totally get into confrontation,
- 26:51but when it comes to your work or the things that you're
- 26:54passionate about, you're still struggling and feeling
- 26:57overwhelmed and collapsing in the face of challenge or
- 27:01something new. And this is going to be
- 27:03different for everybody, but I'd love to hear comment below if
- 27:06any of this resonates or there's something that's really standing
- 27:09out. And tell me if you feel any
- 27:10differently about your capacity to work through, to confront,
- 27:15and to resource what's happening as an ally instead of an enemy.
- 27:20Of course, there are so many other additional layers that are
- 27:23really important to take into consideration that really nuance
- 27:26the Saturn and Mars expression both within our Natal charts and
- 27:30then also as we experience transits.
- 27:33These are things that I definitely take into
- 27:35consideration with my client practice and in readings and
- 27:38consultations. However, I didn't want to go
- 27:41deep into them in today's episode.
- 27:43I wanted to focus more on some of the philosophical and the
- 27:47relational components of working with Saturn and Mars as
- 27:50malefics, but I am going to go ahead and list some of these
- 27:54considerations off for you without going into the technical
- 27:57explanations. If it's something that interests
- 28:00you, I really encourage you. You can check out different
- 28:02astrology resources, do some more investigation, or of
- 28:06course, always book an astrology reading with a professional
- 28:09astrologer. I have that linked below for you
- 28:12if you'd like to look into working together, but the
- 28:15additional astrological techniques that we would take
- 28:18into consideration when looking at and working with Saturn and
- 28:21Mars. The first would be sect.
- 28:24If you've never heard of that word before, sect is determined
- 28:26based off of the time that you're born.
- 28:28So if you're born after sunrise, then you will be considered a
- 28:32day sect chart. If you were born after the
- 28:35sunset or crossed the descendant point in your chart, then you
- 28:40will be of the night sect. In relation to sect, Saturn
- 28:44prefers the day sect. Saturn is said to be easier or
- 28:47more constructive and day charts and Mars on the other hand, is
- 28:52said to be of the night sect, so is more constructive to
- 28:56individuals born in the night sect.
- 28:59The next consideration is dignity.
- 29:01We did not go over dignity today, but this is such an
- 29:05important and powerful layer of consideration.
- 29:08And when Saturn or Mars are in dignity, so either rulership or
- 29:14exaltation, they're said to have an easier access to their
- 29:18natural constructive function that they express themselves
- 29:21more constructively. And I will go ahead and list
- 29:24those dignities for you. So with Saturn, Saturn's
- 29:27dignity, it's in domicile and the ruler of Capricorn as well
- 29:31as Aquarius, and Saturn is exalted in Libra.
- 29:34Those are the places where Saturn does the best and is the
- 29:37most constructive. And Mars is the ruler of Aries
- 29:41and Scorpio and exalted in Capricorn, Saturn's sign.
- 29:46Interesting. So again, you can kind of check
- 29:48your chart, like do your malefics fall into any of those
- 29:52home placements? Are they dignified?
- 29:55Layer that into your interpretation and your
- 29:57reflections. And then finally, I wanted to
- 30:00mention the planetary joys. So the joys are the houses or
- 30:04the places in astrology where some planets tend to be what's
- 30:08called in their joy. And this doesn't mean that they
- 30:11necessarily function better in these places.
- 30:15It just means that they have a natural affinity to the topics
- 30:18and the themes that tend to be experienced in those places in
- 30:22the chart. So for Saturn, Saturn finds its
- 30:25joy in the 12th house, the House of isolation, solitude, retreat,
- 30:31self doing. And for Mars, Mars finds its joy
- 30:35in the 6th house, the House of daily grind, the House of toil,
- 30:40of conflict, of the effort that's required to confront the
- 30:45challenges of everyday life. And again, the joys are not the
- 30:50places these planets necessarily do the best.
- 30:54It's just the place in our life and in the chart that has the
- 30:57most natural affinity for what these planets naturally signify
- 31:02and are here to express. And again, these are all very
- 31:06important layers of consideration when we're going
- 31:09to work with, investigate, or talk about our Saturn and Mars
- 31:13in our Natal chart in transit. It's just not something we're
- 31:16going to cover in today's episode.
- 31:18And I really encourage you, if you haven't ever gotten a
- 31:21professional astrology reading, it's a really great opportunity
- 31:24for you to do that deeper work of unpacking the nuances that
- 31:29are so important for understanding and working with
- 31:32those planets and your Natal chart.
- 31:34These are the nuances that make astrology personal.
- 31:37And this is the work that we're really doing in our Living Chart
- 31:41Work mentorship program that begins in October.
- 31:43And if you haven't heard about the Living Chart Work program
- 31:46real quick, it is a very hands on, intense immersive experience
- 31:52where we have a very high touch small group of people and we
- 31:56dive into all of these Natal context nuances of your chart
- 32:01and how to explore and work with the chart from this grounded
- 32:05personal place. This cohort is already full.
- 32:08We sold out, which is so exciting, but there is an

- 32:13So that way you can be notified right away when we launch our
- 32:17next cohort. And of course, all the

- 32:24Sign up for the next cohort launch announcement.
- 32:27And as we close today's episode, just as we opened, I'd like to
- 32:31invite us to come back to that space, that central space within
- 32:35ourselves. And if it's safe to do so, maybe
- 32:37closing your eyes, resting your hand on your heart and your feet
- 32:41on the ground, and begin to invite a slow, steady breath in
- 32:46through our nose and a slow, steady breath out of our mouth.
- 33:01As we close this container, may we feel Saturn strength
- 33:05anchoring us, the reminder that patience and endurance shape
- 33:10true wisdom. May we feel the warmth of Mars
- 33:12fire in our chest, the courage to act, the clarity to move
- 33:17forward. As we close and go forward, may
- 33:21we all carry Saturn steadiness and Mars flame with us into this
- 33:25week, into the coming months and years as lessons and guides on
- 33:31our path to shape us. Maybe Malefic's aren't here to
- 33:35just ruin our lives. Maybe they're actually here to
- 33:39help shape us. Thank you everybody who joined
- 33:41me on today's episode of Cozy with the Cosmos.
- 33:44If you haven't already, make sure you've got your
- 33:45notifications turned on, because next week brings us to our Aries
- 33:49Full Moon and our rising sign horoscopes Tarot card pole
- 33:53episode. May the walls of Saturn and the
- 33:55fires of Mars in the coming weeks show you just how strong
- 33:59you really are. I'm Sarah Posh and I will see
- 34:02you here next Thursday.
