- 0:32in our series.
- 0:34It's also the next episode in our Thanksgiving series leading up to the holiday this coming week.
- 0:41In our last episode, we explored how a presidential proclamation
- 0:45made Thanksgiving a national holiday
- 0:48during a time of chaos.
- 0:50Today,
- 0:51we're gonna focus on someone who worked behind the scenes,
- 0:55Sarah Josepha Hale, a woman whose tireless persistence played a key role in creating the national Thanksgiving holiday.
- 1:04Her story is a perfect example of how faith,
- 1:08vision,
- 1:09and consistent effort can leave a lasting mark on history.
- 1:15Sarah Joseph O'Hale was born in 1788
- 1:18and became one of the most influential
- 1:21women
- 1:22of the nineteenth century.
- 1:24She was an author, an editor,
- 1:27and an advocate for education, morality, and family unity.
- 1:31As the editor of Gaudi's ladies book,
- 1:34she had a a platform
- 1:37that reached thousands of American households.
- 1:41Through her magazine,
- 1:43she encouraged cultural development,
- 1:45promoted literacy,
- 1:47and even championed social causes.
- 1:50Her work was widely read,
- 1:52and she used it as a tool to shape public opinion, including her longstanding campaign
- 1:58to establish a national day of Thanksgiving.
- 2:03For over three decades,
- 2:05Hale wrote editorials,
- 2:07letters, and appeals to governors and presidents urging the creation
- 2:12of a national Thanksgiving Day.
- 2:14She believed that a shared holiday focused on gratitude
- 2:19could strengthen families,
- 2:21unite the country,
- 2:23and encourage moral reflection,
- 2:25especially
- 2:26during difficult times.
- 2:29Many presidents,
- 2:30they ignored her requests at first, but she continued the campaign year after year,
- 2:35never giving up on it.
- 2:38Her vision
- 2:39wasn't about personal recognition.
- 2:42It was about cultivating a sense of shared gratitude across the entire nation.
- 2:48Hale's persistence finally paid off in 1863.
- 2:53Amid the civil war, president Abraham Lincoln responded to her appeals and issued a proclamation establishing
- 2:58a national Thanksgiving Day.
- 3:01He echoed the themes Hale had emphasized for decades,
- 3:04humility,
- 3:06unity,
- 3:07and gratitude in the face of adversity.
- 3:10Her efforts illustrate how faithful advocacy
- 3:13and a commitment
- 3:14to godly principles can create meaningful change in society.
- 3:19As scripture reminds us, in everything give thanks
- 3:23for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
- 3:26concerning you.
- 3:28First Thessalonians
- 3:29five eighteen.
- 3:32Sarah Joseph of Hale's story shows that that
- 3:36the lasting impact
- 3:39doesn't always come
- 3:41from those in the spotlight.
- 3:44Sometimes
- 3:45it comes from quiet,
- 3:47steady dedication
- 3:48and a commitment to God honoring values.
- 3:53As we approach Thanksgiving this year, her example challenges us to cultivate gratitude,
- 3:59strengthen our families,
- 4:01and use whatever influence we have to bring encouragement and unity
- 4:06to those around us.
- 4:09Hale's life reminds us that faithful work
- 4:12and thankfulness
- 4:14can leave a legacy
- 4:15that endures for generations.
- 4:20Thank you again for tuning in for this episode of Randy Unscripted as part of the napod promo twenty twenty five series,
