- 0:00This week we have a special edition of the Everyday Eurasia
- 0:03podcast. Voices from across the region
- 0:06take us on our journey from Easter to Pentecost.
- 0:09Today we join Shara Sharaf, South Asia field education
- 0:14coordinator. Greetings to you all.
- 0:17Let's turn to John 20, verses 19 to 23.
- 0:20We come today to an important moment in the story of Jesus and
- 0:25his disciples. On the evening after his
- 0:28resurrection, His disciples were gathered together in a locked
- 0:32room, unsure and afraid, but Jesus came to them right where
- 0:37they were. As we read John 20 verse 19, we
- 0:41see that what happened in that room.
- 0:44Jesus needs His people bringing His presence, His peace, as well
- 0:49as revealing to them the plan and purpose He had for them.
- 0:54The doors were shut. Not just shut, but the doors
- 0:57were also locked. The disciples were hiding there
- 1:00in fear. Resurrected Christ still came in
- 1:04and stood among them. No locked door or then any
- 1:08authority could keep Him away from His people.
- 1:11He was present with His disciples when they were
- 1:15frightened. Jesus was present with them in
- 1:20verse 19 and 21. Twice Jesus declares peace be
- 1:26with you. This is far more than just a
- 1:29greeting. Jesus is pouring out peace in
- 1:32the troubled hearts of the disciple.
- 1:34The same peace that calm the storm in the Galilee now calms
- 1:39their trembling hearts. And notice the wonder of it.
- 1:43He speaks peace to men who had abandoned Him just days before.
- 1:48Peter, who denied him, was also present there.
- 1:52This is not peace based on the eligibility of the disciples,
- 1:56but based on the grace of Jesus. Jesus fills them with His peace.
- 2:04Now moving from verses 21 through 23 we see that the
- 2:09Father sent the Son on a mission of redemption.
- 2:13Now the Son sends his disciple on the same mission.
- 2:17But disciples cannot go on their own strength.
- 2:20So in verse 22 we read He breathed on them and said,
- 2:26receive the Holy Spirit. With the help of the Holy
- 2:30Spirit, each disciple fulfills the plan and the purpose of
- 2:34taking the message of forgiveness to all the nations.
- 2:38Jesus had a plan and purpose for them.
- 2:43And here is the assurance for all of us from this passage.
- 2:46When we feel shut by circumstances or fears, no doors
- 2:51can shut out Christ's presence. He walks through walls that no
- 2:55human hand can open. He stands exactly where we are.
- 3:00He fills us with His peace so that we can understand His plan
- 3:04and purpose for our own lives. Let's experience His presence
- 3:09with His peace and be guided to His plan as well as the purpose
- 3:14for our own lives. May God bless you all.
