Louisiana’s tax coffers saw a May surge to $1.09 billion — up nearly $110 million from April — but the year’s total is still $838 million behind last year. The biggest gains came from individual income taxes (up to $361 million), sales tax, and severance taxes, while gasoline taxes held steady. Sales tax is the year’s bright spot, up 16% ($665 million), but income taxes are a major drag — down nearly $900 million — and corporate/franchise taxes are cut in half.
