- 0:00Father, we honor you today as we come before
- 0:02you as sons, excited about what you have for
- 0:06us, what you've put before us. So Lord, we consecrate
- 0:09our conversation to you. We ask that you touch
- 0:12it, that you anoint it, and that Lord, you breathe
- 0:14on what we're doing here today because our heart
- 0:17is to help people. It's to honor you first and
- 0:20help people second. So Lord, for our friends
- 0:23and our new friends that will be listening to
- 0:26this podcast, would you bless them today? Would
- 0:28you encourage them today? And Father, we always
- 0:31say this and we mean it from the bottom of our
- 0:33heart. We get to do this in Jesus' name. Amen.
- 0:37Amen. It's Wednesday, October 7th, 2026. We get
- 0:42to do this. This is episode number 53. We get
- 1:01to do this. Well, hallelujah, believers and Christ
- 1:05curious. Okay, you caught me off guard. All across
- 1:08Get To Nation. Hallelujah. The doers are here.
- 1:12I'm trying to think, you know, what can we say?
- 1:14And he goes, good morning, good afternoon. How
- 1:16about hallelujah? I'm channeling my Tommy Hayes
- 1:19here. Hallelujah. Oh man, yeah. You got to get
- 1:22your hand up in the air. There's something about
- 1:23it though, because I was recording here with
- 1:26Jonah last night for Young and Faithful, new
- 1:28episode. Find it on the Godcaster or Bridge Radio.
- 1:33and I'm walking by, Tommy has his class. I love
- 1:37our church because there's always somebody here,
- 1:39something going on, and I'm walking by and all
- 1:41I hear is, hallelujah. I'm like, yeah, there's
- 1:43Tommy. That's our boy. I love him. He's fantastic.
- 1:48He's an elder now. Yeah, we made him an elder
- 1:50of the church. We meet once a month as elders
- 1:54to pray for the church and pray for our city,
- 1:58pray for revival. I mean, that's our heart. This
- 2:01is the first time in my professional church career,
- 2:05where I've had elders where our primary purpose
- 2:09was to pray and to seek God's face. Because I
- 2:14didn't get a bunch of businessmen doing it. I
- 2:15was going to say your previous experiences might
- 2:18have been, here's how you got to run the church,
- 2:20here's how you got to run the business. Yeah,
- 2:22yeah, it's always that. But that's what we have
- 2:24a board of directors for and it works out great
- 2:26and beautifully. So we handle all that on that
- 2:29level. But I just love being able to get together
- 2:31with these men. to pray, seek God's face, and
- 2:35pray for revival. Nice. Yeah. Hallelujah! Tommy's
- 2:39one of those, and he always says, hallelujah.
- 2:41He gets excited. He does. My grandfather used
- 2:45to do that a lot. Oh, did he? Sometimes he'd
- 2:47just go, yahoo! He'd just cut it off, hallelujah
- 2:51down to, yahoo, yahoo! Wow. So we've been getting
- 2:55a lot of feedback on the substack wgtdt .com,
- 2:59which takes you right there. A lot of emails,
- 3:03adam at wgtdt .com, psjimmy at wgtdt .com. And
- 3:09just some feedback on the AI chat bot stuff that
- 3:11people have been sending because I have two opposing
- 3:14emails, which I wanted to share. The first one
- 3:16is from, let me see, this is from Shelly. And
- 3:22she says, I want to send you a note about Muse.
- 3:24And I've gotten a lot of these people saying,
- 3:27oh wow, this is kind of interesting. This is
- 3:29different from what I thought AI would be. I'm
- 3:32a homeschooling mom and a theater teacher. I
- 3:34also run a very small business building props
- 3:36and puppets for other theaters. All of my work
- 3:38is very hands -on and I hate admin work. After
- 3:41listening to you bang the AI drum, I decided
- 3:44to check out Muse. As a homeschool mom, I uploaded
- 3:48digital copies of physical curriculum, ordered
- 3:50my bot, thank you, to find the other stuff online
- 3:53and set up my kids homeschooling assignments
- 3:55for the week. That normally takes me about three
- 3:57hours. Bam, three hours back in the bank. Nice.
- 4:00Took it a step further, asked it to find some
- 4:02more in -depth activities and voila, it spat
- 4:05out near perfect spreadsheets with exactly what
- 4:07I asked for because this is a robot you command.
- 4:11It's not your buddy, it's not your chat bot,
- 4:12it's not your friend. It's not your spiritual
- 4:14advisor. Thank you. In my prop business, I've
- 4:17been stalled for about a year because digitizing
- 4:19the patterns that I've made is tedious and Adobe
- 4:22is a pain in the butt. Tell me about it. I laid
- 4:25out the pieces on a mat and within 20 minutes,
- 4:27Muse had put together a mostly correct pattern
- 4:29package so that it's sellable. Even better, it
- 4:33also created a program like Adobe that allows
- 4:36me to edit any of its work on these patterns.
- 4:39It's a game changer and the software building
- 4:40component is particularly interesting on so many
- 4:43levels. So this is the main difference between
- 4:49a chat bot and something like Muse or Grok bot
- 4:52is it has its own computer which is Well, technically
- 4:56not yours. It's owned by somebody else. So there's
- 4:59a downside risk always But I think that will
- 5:02change in the future And it can indeed create
- 5:06software programs for you to actually make you
- 5:09know to do things. So it turns I call it the
- 5:12dream build loop. You know, it tightens that
- 5:15so you can dream up something and then you can
- 5:17make it. So I just love hearing that. And I've
- 5:19gotten a lot of this from people saying, you
- 5:21know, I was really confused, worried about it
- 5:24going to kill me, going to make me kill myself.
- 5:27I mean, this is all the stuff that we've heard.
- 5:30Now, conversely, I got a note from Bill. He says,
- 5:34no, you're much more tech savvy and most likely
- 5:37more intelligent than I am. Thank you. I wouldn't
- 5:40say that. You're a professing Christian and I'm
- 5:43a professing born -again Christian. I mean, isn't
- 5:47that kind of the same? I mean, I was born again,
- 5:50so I'm not going to nitpick over it. I see data
- 5:53centers as a groundwork or mainframe software
- 5:56or hardware. You know more about systems terminology
- 5:59than I do. The Holy Spirit is leading me to see
- 6:02data centers as a necessary component for the
- 6:06one world beast system. digital currency, reference
- 6:10in Revelation 13, 16, 17, and 18. I'm curious
- 6:14if your thoughts about the coming beast system
- 6:17linked in any way to this insatiable desire for
- 6:20data centers. I don't believe data centers are
- 6:23for chat bots or any publicly stated purpose.
- 6:26I apologize if this note is convoluted. Just
- 6:28wanted to say hi. Thank you for the many months
- 6:31and obviously I will gather my thoughts about
- 6:33brevity warmly. Your brother in Christ, Bill.
- 6:36We talked about this, I think on the last show,
- 6:40or the show before, about the pending doom. And
- 6:45I encourage people to go back and listen to that,
- 6:47because the first thing is, you don't really
- 6:50have to be afraid of any of it, right? I mean,
- 6:53what are we afraid of? I mean, have you watched
- 6:56the Chinese Olympics with the robots? I mean,
- 7:01that right there takes the fear right away from
- 7:04me. I mean, it's hilarious. But seriously, I'm
- 7:08joking, but I'm just being lighthearted, but
- 7:13I have no fear. I mean, there is no fear. I see
- 7:16how prophecy lays out the end times, the last
- 7:21days, which we may be. We're closer than we were
- 7:24yesterday. For sure. But as far as seeing AI
- 7:30as a part of the great rebellion or whatever,
- 7:33the great delusion, all that. The jury's out
- 7:37for me. I'm not going to postulate on that because
- 7:40I am Very focused on what's in front of me. Yes,
- 7:44like who can I share the gospel with today and
- 7:48If we're in the last of the last days, you're
- 7:52gonna find me wondering Who can I share with
- 7:55the gospel with today? Yeah, I'm gonna be working
- 7:58until it's time to go But I'm not gonna overthink
- 8:01in terms of new technologies. You know the church
- 8:05in general This is a very broad stroke statement,
- 8:08has always been fearful of new tech. Every time
- 8:11something comes out, every time there's an advancement.
- 8:14The internet, that was seen as a satan incarnate.
- 8:17It's the Antichrist. Yeah, the Antichrist is
- 8:18here. You know, the Antichrist is now Islam.
- 8:21No, wait, it's China. No, wait, it's North Korea.
- 8:24I mean, no way. What do you mean? It's Hillary
- 8:26Clinton, man. Yeah, I mean, so, and I'm not disparaging
- 8:30what Bill's saying. I mean, I know he's pouring
- 8:32his heart into that. He's feeling led that way.
- 8:35But as far as fear goes and being spun up about
- 8:39this could be the great beast deceiver, I don't
- 8:44see it, but that's just me. I'm one opinion in
- 8:46a million, so billions. Yeah, but I think that
- 8:49that's the right attitude. It's like, it's coming
- 8:52no matter what, no matter what form. It's not
- 8:54like we can stop it. I think people have this
- 8:56idea, I got to not use it because then I can
- 8:58stop it from happening. Right, right. That's
- 9:01what I feel. And that's not going to happen.
- 9:03It's here. It's not going away. It's kind of
- 9:05like the web when it came out, you know, when
- 9:07it came online, what, early 90s? Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:10I mean, all of a sudden it was like, oh, this
- 9:11is exciting. Oh no, this is awful. You know what
- 9:13I mean? It's like aspirin, it's medicine, it's
- 9:17a gun. I mean, those can be used for good or
- 9:20bad, protect or kill. So I see this as the same
- 9:23way. It is a tool and I'm excited about it. Not
- 9:28because I think it's a thing, a person or it's
- 9:31personified. I just think it's a good tool to
- 9:34save time. And there's very few things that have
- 9:37come forward in the technology world that actually
- 9:39save time. If anything, they take more time.
- 9:42Oh, yeah. No, they totally. Being one. It steals
- 9:45time. Yeah, yeah. The dark, the dark hole. But
- 9:48so I see it as. As long as you're using the tool
- 9:51and the tool's not using you, and that takes
- 9:54ongoing discernment, but that takes ongoing discernment
- 9:56with anything. Driving a car. Protein shakes.
- 9:59I mean, come on. You use discernment no matter
- 10:03what and for what. If it will help people with
- 10:06things that are repetitive, you know, actions,
- 10:09repetitive things that they do that are time,
- 10:11you know, they just eat up all your time and
- 10:13you can automate that, I think that's actually
- 10:16a very good thing. And just on the data centers,
- 10:19just to explain, I mean, people probably have
- 10:21never been inside a data center or they've seen
- 10:23pictures that look really intimidating. But just
- 10:27to give you an idea, if you're using Muse, but
- 10:31even if you're using Chad GPT, there's at least
- 10:34one computer, a virtual computer being run for
- 10:37you in that data center. The actual, the model,
- 10:42as they call it, the large language model that
- 10:45Runs the queries that that little computer that
- 10:48you're using That could be like a hundred times
- 10:52or maybe even a thousand times your computer
- 10:55at home So now of course these sizes are much
- 10:58different But you can already start to imagine
- 11:00how much space that takes up how much energy
- 11:03that requires Which you know data centers will
- 11:06and should be providing that for themselves or
- 11:08at least paying for it So it's not like it's
- 11:12a big, you know devil in there filled with all
- 11:16of your information. That's already in another
- 11:19data center. It's been there for 10 years. It's
- 11:21called iCloud. It's called X. It's called Instagram.
- 11:25It's called Facebook. It just looks like a big
- 11:28scary box, but they've been in our lives for
- 11:30me. I told you I built my first one in 2002.
- 11:32Well, one of our guys here in our church has
- 11:34been working for a company that does this for
- 11:3615 years. This is like no big deal to him. He's
- 11:39like, why is this all of a sudden a thing? Midterms.
- 11:44We need bells in here. We need bells. We need
- 11:47a snare drum and a hi -hat. So I was on an airplane
- 11:54two weeks ago, coming back from Nashville. And
- 11:58I thought to myself, huh, I should be able to
- 12:01use Grok on an airplane because it's not using
- 12:04my computer. This is not my processing. Boom,
- 12:07I was doing research and finding, I blew me away.
- 12:11You know, this is where you have a aha moment.
- 12:14It kind of sounds silly, but I'm on an airplane
- 12:17and I'm getting processing speed, just light
- 12:20year speed. right there in my hand on an airplane,
- 12:24flying in a tube in the air. It's a flying seat.
- 12:27It's mind -bending. Because I know I've said
- 12:30something. I always joke with you saying all
- 12:32your bots are like burning up. They're humming.
- 12:36They're making noise. People are mad. They're
- 12:38picketing. But now you're seeing it yourself.
- 12:40The power of it. Everyone I talk to, I got 10
- 12:44hours back. When people start talking like that,
- 12:47I get time back. My only question is, Are you
- 12:50filling that up with more work? That's good stuff.
- 12:52There you go. So what are you doing with that
- 12:55other time? And I actually am about to go and
- 12:58ask Pastor Russ if I can help with the screen
- 13:00here, because I got time back. Wow. I have time
- 13:03now, and I want to spend that wisely. Interesting
- 13:07how we talk about time as currency, isn't it?
- 13:10I want to spend it. I want to save it. Time is
- 13:12money. Exactly. Well, time is time, I guess.
- 13:18Time is life. So we got some fun things to talk
- 13:22about today, but there's a couple of things in
- 13:26media that I want to help our our doers out there
- 13:29and get to get to nation understand how things
- 13:33work and This is really predicated by Tina and
- 13:37I going back and watching the West Wing From
- 13:40episode one. We're now in the said there's seven
- 13:44season. This is season six and I got hooked on
- 13:47well, first of all It's very tame. There's not
- 13:50a lot of, you know, there's not a lot of graphic
- 13:52stuff. It's about politicking and inside politics.
- 13:55Nothing really new, but the thing that keeps
- 13:57surprising me, now you have to understand the
- 14:00premises. This is a democratic White House. Jed
- 14:03Bartlett played by Martin Sheen. He's the president.
- 14:06Good guy, of course. Only good people around
- 14:08him, but they're shenanigans. The thing that
- 14:10keeps amazing me is he, behind these closed doors,
- 14:14they're talking about and talking the same way
- 14:16President Trump does. Like, we should run for
- 14:18a third term. We've got to bomb Iran because
- 14:21they, you know, and they actually do. I mean,
- 14:23it's all these different things that President
- 14:25Trump says out loud. And of course, media is
- 14:27very different now from when this series started
- 14:29in the early 2000s. But what caught my eye, and
- 14:34there's a thing called pre -programming and media
- 14:37is very influential on how we think and why we
- 14:40think. And it's always done for Well, for two
- 14:43reasons. One, to promote some other entertainment
- 14:45product. So, you know, UFO is an alien. Oh, there's
- 14:48Steven Spielberg with a UFO movie. Noah's Ark.
- 14:53No. Well, I mean, it's used by lots of people
- 14:57for lots of things, but certainly Hollywood has
- 15:00always been very politically motivated. And this
- 15:03is a political show. So this is a play that this
- 15:08is in March 2005. And it is set in the so -called
- 15:14Democratic primaries and Republican primaries
- 15:17of 2006. So now we just had an election in real
- 15:22life in 2004, and it was President Bush against
- 15:26John Kerry. And man, that didn't turn out good
- 15:30for John Kerry. We had the swift boat scandal
- 15:32and all that stuff. And of course, it was a wartime
- 15:35president. But if you recall, At the 2004 Democratic
- 15:41convention, there was a very important speaker.
- 15:43Do you remember who that was? No. Barack Obama,
- 15:46a senator from Chicago who no one had ever seen.
- 15:49Young skinny man, looks like a basketball player.
- 15:51He got the big spot to speak. And of course,
- 15:55four years later, he was elected president. This
- 15:58was a meteoric rise. He didn't actually run for
- 16:01the Senate seat. He was appointed because of
- 16:04a sex scandal with the previous senator. We always
- 16:08looked at him like, hmm, isn't that interesting?
- 16:11Came out of nowhere. How he got in there. So
- 16:14this series, these particular episodes were written
- 16:19by, what's the guy's name, from MSNBC. Let me
- 16:26get this for you. Where is he here? Lawrence
- 16:36O'Donnell. You might have seen him MSNBC's kind
- 16:38of the gruff older guy and he's always, you know,
- 16:42Republicans are no good. So he actually wrote
- 16:44this series and the consultants on this were
- 16:50two political operatives. One of them was David
- 16:53Axelrod, who was the guy who literally managed
- 16:56Obama's presidential run. So now we're in the
- 17:00primary, the democratic primaries for the presidency
- 17:03and there's two candidates. One is played by
- 17:07Alan Alda, and he's Vinick. He's the Republican
- 17:09candidate. And he was supposed, and it even state,
- 17:13the producer said, this is supposed to be McCain,
- 17:16who of course later did run for president. Jimmy
- 17:18Smits, you know him from NYPD Blue. So he's the
- 17:22Democratic. candidate, and he was completely
- 17:25modeled after Barack Obama. So this is already
- 17:27pre -programming for an election coming up in
- 17:302008. And I'm not going to spoil who wins, but
- 17:34you can kind of imagine how the show goes. So
- 17:37there's this scene. And the scene is with the
- 17:40current Democratic president. He only has two
- 17:42years left. And this is Martin Sheen Bartlett.
- 17:46And Alan Alda comes to visit him as the front
- 17:50runner of the Republican Party. And so now they're
- 17:53just talking, eating some ice cream in the White
- 17:56House kitchen at night. And I just wanted to
- 17:59listen to some of the things that were being
- 18:01pre -programmed into this hit show and millions
- 18:04of people watching it. Whatever happened to separation
- 18:07of church and state? It's hanging in there. But
- 18:11I'm afraid the Constitution doesn't say anything
- 18:13about the separation of church and politics.
- 18:16So already? This is untruthful. Wow. So whatever
- 18:20happened to separation of church and state, as
- 18:21we know, there is no clause of no such thing.
- 18:24And now it's already been turned to from church
- 18:28to religion. Faith never comes up. So this is
- 18:30kind of the premise of where this is going. And
- 18:33President Bartlett, the Democrat, is a Catholic
- 18:35boy. And it's interesting because he's going
- 18:38to mass. You know, things happen. He goes to
- 18:40the church. So he's very faithful, maybe religious,
- 18:44certainly. You're saying that's a good thing?
- 18:46saying it's the way it is, always has been. You
- 18:49think the voter really needs to know if I go
- 18:51to church? This is the Republican who hasn't
- 18:56been to church in six years. And he's asked about
- 18:59it. And he says, well, you know, I got TV interviews
- 19:03on Sunday. So this is a little bit of a bump
- 19:05in his campaign. And so now he's asking, why
- 19:07do people even care about this? This is the Republican.
- 19:10Imagine this, how this is played out 20 years
- 19:13ago. I don't need to know, but then I'm not going
- 19:14to vote for you anyway. It's not up to us to
- 19:18decide what the voters get to use in evaluating
- 19:20us. I don't know how you plan to handle this
- 19:22religious thing in the campaign. Yeah, well,
- 19:25that makes two of us. I could find a way to let
- 19:28it slip. I think a candidate's religion or how
- 19:31often he goes to church is not relevant to choosing
- 19:33a president. So here's a Democrat saying this,
- 19:36okay, but what is the Republican gonna say? You're
- 19:38gonna say that on the way into church? Are you
- 19:41accusing me of politicizing church -going? You've
- 19:43had an awful lot of photo ops on the church steps.
- 19:46I went to mass every Sunday long before I went
- 19:48into politics. I did too. Why didn't you stop?
- 19:53One Christmas my wife gave me a very old edition
- 19:56of the King James Bible. 17th century. It was
- 20:00a real find for a book collector. It was a thrill
- 20:03just to hold it. Then I read it. You can't take
- 20:08it literally. Yeah, well that's what my priest
- 20:10friends kept telling me. You can't take the Bible
- 20:12literally. This is already to me in my eye. I
- 20:15never would have heard this if I had watched
- 20:17it back then. I'm like, okay, okay. But the more
- 20:21I read it, the less I could believe. I could
- 20:24not believe there was a God who said that the
- 20:26penalty for working on the Sabbath was death.
- 20:30I couldn't believe there was a God who said the
- 20:32penalty for adultery was death. I'm more of a
- 20:35New Testament man myself. Wow, break this down
- 20:40for me right here because this already like so
- 20:43here's the God I got this old King James Bible
- 20:45like that doesn't include the New Testament somehow
- 20:47and like I could not believe a God who you know
- 20:50says the penalty for adultery is death and Then
- 20:54Bartlett says I'm more of a New Testament guy
- 20:56myself. You can't separate these two. No, can
- 20:58you? No, no You have to take the Bible as a whole.
- 21:02It's a narrative. It's a story arc and you have
- 21:05to take it as a whole The Old Testament is the
- 21:09New Testament concealed. The New Testament is
- 21:12the Old Testament revealed. So they work with
- 21:16each other. In fact, and I agree with this, when
- 21:19we had Todd McDowell here, he said, you literally
- 21:24cannot really understand a biblical worldview
- 21:27from a New Testament perspective if you don't
- 21:31know the Old Testament, if you've not studied
- 21:33and not not gotten into the history of how things
- 21:36happened. Because worldview is not built on a
- 21:39paragraph. It's not built in a moment. It's built
- 21:43in the cumulative knowledge and understanding
- 21:45of a particular situation. And the more understanding
- 21:48and knowledge and content you get on a situation,
- 21:50you get a better, clearer picture of it, right?
- 21:53This is a hard thing for new believers, for anyone
- 21:57who hasn't been in the Word for a while, to really...
- 22:00kind of grasp what you just said there. Yeah,
- 22:02it's a lot because it requires time and it requires
- 22:05effort. Most, let's be real, most people in our
- 22:10day and time, not all, but most, are biblically
- 22:13illiterate. And yet we're asking them to have
- 22:17a biblical worldview. Right. So we're going to
- 22:20be doing a seven -week series on biblical worldview,
- 22:23the pillars of biblical worldview, because we
- 22:25realize we're asking people to do something they're
- 22:27not ready to do. Yeah, not here, but Bridge Church.
- 22:31Bridge Church, not here. Don't panic. We'll talk
- 22:34about it. We'll bring it up. But anyway, all
- 22:36that is, is because whatever you're studying,
- 22:39reading, understanding about history, events
- 22:42from the past, they inform your worldview. So
- 22:45bringing that to something like what he was talking
- 22:48about here, say capital punishment, for example.
- 22:52Yeah, we're going to get there. you have to have
- 22:56a worldview and an understanding of both old
- 22:58and new. So let's clarify that based on this
- 23:01statement. You can't just be a New Testament
- 23:04Christian. Or just an Old Testament. There's
- 23:06no such thing. Yeah. So now, I'm going to skip
- 23:10the rest of that. You already get kind of the
- 23:12gist. Now, the Republican guy goes out and makes
- 23:15a statement about his faith, lack of faith, his
- 23:20church going, etc. And this was completely meant
- 23:24as programming people's minds about how to choose
- 23:29a candidate for president or vice president,
- 23:31etc. On the debt ceiling bill, we will pass it
- 23:35within the hour and send it to the president
- 23:37for his signature before midnight. What about
- 23:39the minimum wage amendment? We've agreed to have
- 23:41a separate vote on the minimum wage increase
- 23:43tomorrow. Is it going to pass? Yes, it will.
- 23:46I'll vote for it, and I guarantee you it'll be
- 23:47more than enough bipartisan support to pass it.
- 23:50Senator, are you going to reconsider Reverend
- 23:52Butler's invitation to his church this weekend?
- 23:54I fully respect Reverend Butler's position. I
- 23:57mean, I appreciate his invitation. And, uh, look,
- 24:02I respect Reverend Butler. And I respect his
- 24:04church too much to use it for my own political
- 24:06purposes. And that's exactly what I'd be doing
- 24:09if I went down there this Sunday. Because the
- 24:11truth is, it would just be an act of political
- 24:13phonings. I may be wrong, but I suspect our churches
- 24:17already have enough political phonies in them.
- 24:20Senator, do you or do you not? Let's see how
- 24:22we can have a separation of church and state
- 24:24in this government if you have to pass a religious
- 24:26test to get in this government. And I want to
- 24:31warn everyone in the press and all the voters
- 24:33out there, if you demand expressions of religious
- 24:37faith from politicians, you are just begging
- 24:40to be lied to. They won't all lie to you, but
- 24:42a lot of them will. And it'll be the easiest
- 24:46lie they ever had to tell to get your boats Notice
- 24:49the music. Oh get your nervous system going.
- 24:52Yeah How about that? That is the exact opposite
- 24:56of what? Believers should be doing and this is
- 24:59being set up like oh if they tell you they're
- 25:02men of faith They're lying to you. How about
- 25:04that? Yeah. Yeah, I mean this is we've seen this
- 25:07play out through the decades. Mm -hmm, you know
- 25:10when you hear people talking about their faith,
- 25:12like Barack Obama. Really? Are you Christian?
- 25:15Really? Are you Muslim? Well, it depends on who
- 25:17he's talking to. You could read that both ways.
- 25:23This is nothing new, and this is what, 2001?
- 25:262005. 2005. And we're still seeing these things.
- 25:31I would say with our current president, He's
- 25:36a God -fearer. I'm not sure how deep in he really
- 25:38is in terms of the weeds, so to speak. But he
- 25:45holds nothing back in terms of allowing platforms
- 25:49for Christianity. And he says that he does it
- 25:52based on the founding of our nation, that there's
- 25:56precedent for this. So that's why he has no problem
- 25:58or qualms with it. Whether he's all in or not,
- 26:02I think he definitely is. built friendships with
- 26:05people who are, and so that's been a huge influence.
- 26:10But he's harkening back to our foundations of
- 26:15faith. what I hear, was that Alan Alda? I could
- 26:19totally recognize his voice. He won an Emmy Award
- 26:22for that role, specifically that episode. Interesting,
- 26:25interesting. And so interesting too, because
- 26:28you get that famous line, the separation of church
- 26:31and state, which is not in the Constitution or
- 26:34the Bill of Rights or the Declaration of Independence,
- 26:37none of that. And it was a complete aberration
- 26:40of a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to the
- 26:43Danbury Baptist Association, assuring them, that
- 26:47there would be no state -sponsored church, because
- 26:51that was the biggest fear. Because that's what
- 26:53they ran away from. That's why they came here.
- 26:56And so it was actually the very opposite, and
- 26:59yet it's been reinterpreted now, the opposite
- 27:02of what it was actually meant to say, what it
- 27:05said in context. So even hearing him quote that
- 27:08with the music in the background and all, everybody,
- 27:10oh yeah, yeah, the separation of church and state,
- 27:12isn't that in the Constitution or the Bill of
- 27:14Rights? Which amendment is that? So, I mean,
- 27:17people really think that's in our founding documents,
- 27:20and it is not, which is mind -bending how that
- 27:24got twisted. And I really bring the pre -programming
- 27:28part up because the subversive messaging about
- 27:33voting for someone with biblical values is much
- 27:40more sophisticated. And in fact, if you look
- 27:42at here in Texas, Tallarico, it's all being inverted.
- 27:46And it's very sophisticated. And so discernment
- 27:50is... In fact, I would say, I don't know if you
- 27:52heard Josh Howerton's bonus episode on Tallarico's
- 27:57appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. No, I did not. It's
- 28:00so good, we couldn't even replicate it. He did
- 28:03such a... And we're pretty good. He did such
- 28:06a good job of breaking down the lies. This was
- 28:11In Your Face. Like, listen, stupid people, if
- 28:14you're voting for somebody based upon him going
- 28:16to church, he's lying to you. You know, it's
- 28:19like, wow, okay, separation of church and state.
- 28:23All misinformation. There's no articles about
- 28:27it. I don't see any churches complaining about
- 28:30it. You had 15 million people watch this show.
- 28:32Wow. So politically motivated, here comes the
- 28:36capital punishment, which I... pretty much believe
- 28:39this will be in debates for the midterms. It's
- 28:42being played that way. And this is the Christa
- 28:45Pike failed execution. Right. Now this is not
- 28:49the October surprise, is it? No, I don't think
- 28:53it's the October. Is there something coming?
- 28:55Who knows? It's only the 7th of October. Anything
- 28:59can still happen. A lot of room. No, but it's
- 29:04interesting how the media has taken this story.
- 29:08And here's just, this is CNN, I think, with a
- 29:11little background on what happened. Krista Pike,
- 29:13a woman on death row in Tennessee, survived two
- 29:16doses of a lethal injection intended to execute
- 29:19her. But the drug used in the failed execution
- 29:21has a controversial past. Pentobarbital is a
- 29:25sedative that depresses the central nervous system.
- 29:27But critics of its use in lethal injections say
- 29:30that it can lead to a buildup of fluid in the
- 29:32lungs and create a feeling of suffocation. The
- 29:35Biden administration raised questions about whether
- 29:37Pentobarbital causes, quote, unnecessary pain
- 29:40and suffering as a single drug lethal injection.
- 29:43Notice already harkening back to the Biden administration's,
- 29:45you know, so just just so you know, it's this
- 29:48is Republicans, Republicans doing this rescinded
- 29:50its use as part of the protocol. In April, Attorney
- 29:53General Todd Blanch called Pento -Barbatel, quote,
- 29:56the gold standard of lethal injection drugs and
- 29:58said the US Department of Justice secured a source
- 30:01of it in 2019. And that gets to one of the big
- 30:03issues with drugs used for lethal injection.
- 30:06Pharmaceutical companies over the past decade
- 30:08and a half have largely tried to block their
- 30:10products from being used to kill people. So states
- 30:12and the federal government have had to seek alternative
- 30:15sources, leading experts to question the potency
- 30:18and quality of the drugs they acquire. Now, we
- 30:20still don't know why Pike survived the execution
- 30:23attempt. Some experts have suggested it could
- 30:26have been an error in administering the drug.
- 30:28And for decades, groups like the American Medical
- 30:30Association and American Nurses Association have
- 30:33opposed or prohibited members from participating
- 30:36in capital punishment, which makes it unclear
- 30:38who is involved in administering these lethal
- 30:40drugs. The Death Penalty Information Center says
- 30:43that one of the main reasons for botched lethal
- 30:45injections is an inability to insert an IV. Pike's
- 30:49attorneys say they had warned the court that
- 30:51Pike already had vein issues. Now they're asking
- 30:54Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to commute her sentence.
- 30:57Okay. A lot going on here. Yeah, that weird backing
- 31:02track. It's all meant to subvert your nervous
- 31:06system as you listen to it. It's mysterious.
- 31:09So what I'm hearing in this is killing people,
- 31:14bad, it's botched, Republicans, the administration.
- 31:20So, well, we got the gold standard. Maybe she
- 31:23should go free. What I don't hear in any of the
- 31:28reports, and this case took place in 1995, do
- 31:32you know why she was convicted of murder? That's
- 31:33what I want to know, but I haven't heard that
- 31:35yet. You have not heard this anywhere, which
- 31:37is why I suspect this is going to be a midterm
- 31:40issue about death penalty. It's going to come
- 31:42right back to, that's why we need to talk about
- 31:43capital punishment. You crazy right -wing Christians,
- 31:47Christian nationalists, want to kill everybody,
- 31:49but yet you don't believe it. What would Jesus
- 31:51do? This is all coming down. I can feel it and
- 31:54I think we're already hearing it in our own personal
- 31:57circles and friends Like well, what do you think
- 31:59about this? You know, did God save her? Was she
- 32:03is she a witch and she couldn't be killed and
- 32:05these are literally the questions Wow So let's
- 32:08go back and find out what she did from stories
- 32:11from WB IR in 1995 which you will not hear in
- 32:15today's reporting other than She killed somebody
- 32:18and tortured her. Maybe you didn't even hear
- 32:20the torture part Let's listen to the reports
- 32:22from this is now, what, 30 years ago. The brutal
- 32:25murder of 19 year old Coleen Slemmer created
- 32:27fear and speculation among students and staff
- 32:30Friday. Knoxville police quickly dispelled any
- 32:33myths about the case with a break in their investigation.
- 32:35It did not involve a university student. It did
- 32:38not occur on the bike trail. It was not a random
- 32:42or a stranger to stranger incident. A tip led
- 32:48authorities to Knoxville's Job Corps, where 18
- 32:50-year -old Krista Pike and 17 -year -old Terrell
- 32:53Shipp were arrested around 2 o 'clock Saturday
- 32:55morning. Police say the murder suspects were
- 32:58close to the victim. The motive of the crime
- 33:00appears to be a love triangle. It appears that
- 33:03both of the females involved had been involved
- 33:08with a 17 -year -old male. Investigators say
- 33:11the suspects led their victim to this isolated
- 33:14area of campus on the premise they'd smoke marijuana
- 33:16together. Instead, she was brutally stabbed and
- 33:19beaten. The victim's partially dressed body was
- 33:22found in this brushy area Friday morning. An
- 33:25autopsy confirmed she was slashed repeatedly
- 33:27with a meat cleaver and some other small cutting
- 33:29device, perhaps a razor blade or box opener.
- 33:32Authorities say she was then beaten over the
- 33:34head with a large chunk of asphalt from this
- 33:37pile. News of the arrest was quick to circulate
- 33:40around UT. I'm glad it wasn't a student, but
- 33:43still it's kind of, it's still frightening that
- 33:44it would happen over here. You just don't think
- 33:46it would ever happen to you. You think, well,
- 33:48you know, I'm 18, it's not gonna happen to me.
- 33:50I can walk and I know self -defense, but that
- 33:54really makes you stop and think. While the murder
- 33:56was not directly linked to the university, other
- 33:58than location, authorities say students and faculty
- 34:00should always exercise caution, especially at
- 34:03night in areas like this. So now you have the
- 34:06background. Let's hear the actual details of
- 34:09the torture. It's getting a little bit gruesome,
- 34:10but I'm surprised from a news media where if
- 34:15it bleeds, it leads, and the more gruesome, the
- 34:17better. They want to show it all. They want to
- 34:19talk about it. They're not doing that right now,
- 34:22but they did 30 years ago. A choice Christa Gale
- 34:25Pike made more than 30 years ago is the reason
- 34:28she's said to die by lethal injection. In January
- 34:311995, Pike was 18 years old, a student in the
- 34:35Knoxville Job Corps. Pike suspected fellow student
- 34:38Colleen Slemmer was interested in her boyfriend
- 34:41to Daryl Shipp. Shipp and Pike invited her to
- 34:44plans that night. Investigators say the suspects
- 34:46led their victim to this isolated area of campus.
- 34:49On the premise, they'd smoke marijuana together.
- 34:51A rainy night. That would change. all of their
- 34:54lives. The young woman's badly beaten body was
- 34:58found in a remote area of UT's ag campus. For
- 35:01at least half an hour, the pair tortured their
- 35:03classmate. The victim's partially dressed body
- 35:06was found in this brushy area Friday morning.
- 35:09An autopsy confirmed she was slashed repeatedly
- 35:11with a meat cleaver and some other small cutting
- 35:13device, perhaps a razor blade or box opener.
- 35:16Shadala Peterson was present. Well, she was there,
- 35:19but she had no part in this killing. Slemmer
- 35:23told them she'd move back home and tell no one,
- 35:26if they let her go. A pentagram, a five -pointed
- 35:30star, a symbol of Satan, was carved into her
- 35:33chest. Pike dealt a final blow, breaking her
- 35:36skull with a piece of asphalt. Peterson went
- 35:38on to say Pike took a piece of Slemmer's skull
- 35:41and put it in her pocket. The next morning, she
- 35:43showed off the skull fragment to friends. OK.
- 35:47Does that change your mind about this case, maybe?
- 35:50Wow. Man, yeah, that's intense. So this is satanic,
- 35:58but we're not hearing that. So what's going to
- 36:02happen is we're going to have a debate over capital
- 36:04punishment. And so how do we, as believers and
- 36:09Christ curious, what is the biblical worldview?
- 36:12Because you have government, you have the person,
- 36:16and this is a complicated one. I want to be...
- 36:20ready for when someone asks me about this. Because
- 36:23you believe in God. You don't believe in killing
- 36:25people. God, you can't do that. Or does God say,
- 36:28you got to kill them? Well, let's clarify. First
- 36:30of all, no one is to take revenge and take a
- 36:33life. Just get that out in front because people,
- 36:37they just say death is death no matter who does
- 36:40it. But that's not true. A person, an individual
- 36:43cannot revenge or avenge any wrong through the
- 36:48killing of another human being, period. So, end
- 36:51of story. Well, then capital punishment's evil.
- 36:54No, that isn't what I said. I said an individual
- 36:56cannot do that, but a government can. In fact,
- 37:00governments are directed by God, both Old and
- 37:02New Testament, to take care of evildoers, to
- 37:05punish them. And I've got some scriptures here,
- 37:08Genesis 9, 6, talks about... Let's just talk
- 37:11about the sanctity of human life, right? So,
- 37:14the biblical argument is this. This grounds the
- 37:18issue in the image of God. So biblical argument
- 37:21is not that life is cheap. It's that human life
- 37:23is so valuable that intentionally taking innocent
- 37:26life is treated with the utmost seriousness.
- 37:29So I'm taking this back a little bit because
- 37:31I'm going to give you a worldview, not just to
- 37:33try to answer. Second thing, personal vengeance
- 37:35and civil justice are different. That's what
- 37:37I was saying from the beginning. So we're talking
- 37:39about two different things. We're talking in
- 37:42this case, civil justice. This has been through
- 37:45a court system, it's been planned, all that.
- 37:49And it's based on the horrific nature of the
- 37:52crime. So there's context and evidence and all
- 37:56those things that come into play. And admission
- 37:57in this case. So Romans 12, 19 says this, Christians
- 38:01are not to avenge themselves. So we don't take
- 38:04or exact revenge on anyone. But Romans 13, the
- 38:08next chapter, says that governing authorities
- 38:10are responsible to restrain evil and do not bear
- 38:15the sword in vain. So they bear a sword. They
- 38:17do bear a sword. And so the Bible separates personal
- 38:21revenge and vengeance, which is forbidden from
- 38:25civil justice, which is authorized. Okay. So
- 38:29we're not talking about personal revenge in this
- 38:32case and capital punishment or in any capital
- 38:34punishment case. It's not about that. It's about
- 38:37civil justice being authorized by God and by
- 38:41scripture to to deal justly to exact justice
- 38:46upon the criminal of the crime. Scripture recognizes
- 38:50crimes worthy of death. There's many of them,
- 38:53several. In the book of Acts, Paul says this
- 38:56in Acts 25 -11, if I am an offender or have committed
- 39:00anything deserving of death, I should die. I
- 39:03do not object to dying. This is Paul saying,
- 39:06look, if I did something that's worthy of that
- 39:08or deserving of it, then I should die. Paul's
- 39:11argument was not that capital punishment was
- 39:12inherently wrong. His argument was that he was
- 39:15innocent of the charges. But he was using that
- 39:18as case precedent, right? And then here's another
- 39:21one. Biblical justice demands a very high standard.
- 39:24The Old Testament required witnesses, evidence,
- 39:26and distinctions between murder and accidental
- 39:29death. So there's an issue there. So if government
- 39:32has the authority to take a life, it also bears
- 39:35an enormous responsibility to get the judgment
- 39:37right. So there's that plays in. But how does
- 39:41this work when we shouldn't be electing our politicians
- 39:44based upon their faith? Right. You see where
- 39:49I'm coming from? Oh, I do. Which is why we were
- 39:51told that this grand experiment called the United
- 39:54States would not work unless you had a religious
- 39:56and moral people. Yes. That's right. Right. So
- 39:59let's go back to the beginning, right? Capital
- 40:01punishment should never be about rage, revenge,
- 40:04politics, or mob justice. So, that's it. That's
- 40:06forbidden by God. So, here's a simple summary.
- 40:10My position is that capital punishment can be
- 40:13defended biblically as a legitimate function
- 40:16of civil government, especially in cases of intentional
- 40:19murder, which we already have admission, proof,
- 40:22everything. But the biblical argument is rooted
- 40:24in the value of human life, not vengeance, okay?
- 40:28Christians can support justice, demand due process,
- 40:31and at the same time, pray for the repentance
- 40:34and salvation of the guilty person. Now, this
- 40:37is where we come in, where we say, okay, civil
- 40:40government has already said that there are crimes
- 40:43that are worthy of death. A crime worthy of death
- 40:46has been committed, it has been admitted to,
- 40:48it has been proven, due process has happened.
- 40:51And now 30 years later, we're talking about it.
- 40:55But it's not about vengeance, it's about, for
- 40:58us, praying for that life of that person. I mean,
- 41:03I pray for evil people all the time. This is
- 41:05what we do as Christians because ultimately our
- 41:09goal isn't punishment, it is redemption. We want
- 41:14to see people redeemed. Now, there are natural
- 41:16logical consequences to the things we do. There
- 41:20are civic consequences to the things we do. There
- 41:22are spiritual consequences to the things we do.
- 41:25And you've got to parse those out. And so at
- 41:27the end of the day, we can support justice. demand
- 41:30due process, and at the same time, pray for repentance
- 41:33and salvation of the guilty person. Justice and
- 41:36mercy are not opposites. Got to realize that.
- 41:41Mercy works because of justice. Mercy is not
- 41:44a free pass. It works because justice exists
- 41:48and it's needed. And at the cross, we see both
- 41:51punishment of sin, capital punishment, and mercy.
- 41:57So, the shortcut for people is God gives those
- 42:04decisions and power to government, and we pray
- 42:10that we elect the right governing leaders who
- 42:13we were supposed to pray for anyway, no matter
- 42:15who we elected, or if someone is elected who
- 42:18we didn't vote for, that is continuously our
- 42:22duty. See, that's, I think, the step that people
- 42:25don't realize. They don't because we see things
- 42:29on such a just face value. We don't think about
- 42:32what's behind that thought, what's behind that
- 42:34action. That's why a biblical worldview is so
- 42:37important to understand is that God set up governments.
- 42:41God ordained family. He ordained government.
- 42:44He ordained these things. So they're there. And
- 42:47in Romans chapter 13, it tells us straight up,
- 42:50they are there to execute judgment. on evildoers,
- 42:54but also to bless those who aren't, those who
- 42:58do right. So it's there to bless and to exact
- 43:02punishment. And I'm not even sure that this was
- 43:05a botched thing, to be honest about it, brother.
- 43:08Really? I'm not sure what the circumstances.
- 43:10Canada has no problem. If you want to die, they'll
- 43:12kill you in one minute and 30 seconds. They have,
- 43:15it seems to work all the time with their assisted
- 43:18death program. So what are you thinking? I mean,
- 43:20what do you? Midterms. I don't put anything past
- 43:23the enemy brother. I don't put anything past
- 43:26these people. This could have been a complete
- 43:28intentional. Very possible. I mean, why didn't
- 43:31it work? That's just weird. Is she? Well, I'm
- 43:34hearing all these like, oh, your platelets. Is
- 43:37she debilitated now? I mean, no, no, she's now
- 43:40speaking. Wow. She's she's come back. So now
- 43:44we give her a free pass. Well, tell me. Pastor,
- 43:48I don't think we should. The conviction was in.
- 43:51This is going to be the next question. Well,
- 43:53if she survived it, shouldn't she live? Is there
- 43:57a law? Is there precedent on this? This is government
- 43:59decisions. This has happened in the past, yeah.
- 44:01And typically they execute the prisoner afterwards.
- 44:05That's the precedent for it. So people are all
- 44:09compassionate because it didn't take this cruel
- 44:11and unusual punishment, which is an issue. And
- 44:13that's why we didn't hear the actual crime. Thank
- 44:18you for that, because that actually informs even
- 44:20the way I see this thing. Now, I felt compassion
- 44:23just because, yeah, I'd rather just be done.
- 44:26I mean, I hate that she had to go through all
- 44:28that and not die. That's weird. I've never heard
- 44:31of this happening before. No, it's happened several
- 44:34times. Wow. Yeah. This is new to me. And then
- 44:37the sentence was carried out. Yeah. Okay. So
- 44:41there's precedent. There's precedent for it.
- 44:43But that's why I don't trust this reporting because
- 44:47we didn't hear the original reporting from 30
- 44:49years ago. This is a heinous crime. And then
- 44:52like, look, I got a piece of the skull showing
- 44:54it to the students the next day. Come on now.
- 44:59Anyway. No, that's good. Good boy. But I hope
- 45:02that helps people from a biblical perspective
- 45:04see that, yeah, God exacts punishment. He inacts
- 45:08justice. And then He puts that in the civics
- 45:13realm, the government realm, which He ordained.
- 45:16And so, yeah, there's justifiable. And I'm pretty
- 45:20sure it's meant to confuse people. The way this
- 45:24reporting is done is to scramble your brains.
- 45:27And it's a weird bridge to make, but not only
- 45:33your message on Sunday, but Pastor Russ '… I
- 45:37mean, he was doing the communion, which is typically…
- 45:42you know, you set it up, you talk about the blood
- 45:45of Christ, the body of Christ. It's a lead into
- 45:48our donation segment. But he stood up there and
- 45:52he had the podium and he had the lectern and
- 45:54everything, and he just like put into such simple
- 45:57terms as like an opening act for your message
- 46:00about the lies that we tell ourselves. And this
- 46:05comes back to your four Rs, which a lot of people
- 46:08responded to from the last episode. We have to
- 46:12Talk about that again. Yeah. Yeah. Let's unpack
- 46:15some of that. Well, first of all, what are the
- 46:17four Rs and why are they even this? Why would
- 46:20people even be interested in them? So let me
- 46:21just read them to you straight up. Four Rs. One
- 46:25is recognize what? You're recognizing the lies
- 46:28that come. Love the way John Eldridge puts it
- 46:31when he talks about how things come to us. Lies
- 46:33come to us. False things come to us. False thoughts.
- 46:40unhealthy, wrong thinking, all that stuff that
- 46:42the mind war that we have. I'm no good. I'm ugly.
- 46:45I'm a loser. It's never going to work out. I'm
- 46:47not going to happen. I'm going to be alone for
- 46:50the rest of my life. Yep. Yep. I'm never going
- 46:52to make it. Never going to move forward in my
- 46:53career. All of that. And man, it gets more, it
- 46:57gets uglier than that if, and anyone who's looked
- 46:59in the mirror can tell you that they've got their
- 47:01own mind wars going. So, but how do you combat
- 47:03that? And first of all, do you recognize this
- 47:06might not be me thinking this? That's what I
- 47:08like so much about this. That's what's critical.
- 47:12Eldridge, we showed a clip from John Eldridge
- 47:14where he made this comment. He said, in fact,
- 47:18we played on last program. This is very good.
- 47:21This clip's good. It's a good setup for helping
- 47:24people understand the four Rs. It's a podcast
- 47:34by Ryan. I got it. I got it. I got it. Yeah,
- 47:36this is good. It took me a second. What is your
- 47:38prescription for taking inventory of agreements?
- 47:41Because it sounds like this is not like, oh,
- 47:43I... I was open to agreements at one point. It
- 47:46sounds like our entire lives, we are constantly,
- 47:48you know, at risk of accepting these things because
- 47:52it's being dark, it's being thrown at us. So
- 47:54what's John's wisdom for taking inventory? And
- 47:57when should we stop and say, hey, is there anything
- 47:58I'm, you know, wow, that got me? And I didn't
- 48:02even realize that. Yes. OK, let's first come
- 48:04back for a moment to our worldview. You live
- 48:07in a love story set in a world at war. It is
- 48:12a love story. The centerpiece is the love story,
- 48:16but you are surrounded by war. Revelation 12,
- 48:22and he went off to make war against her offspring,
- 48:25speaking of Mary, those who hold to the testimony
- 48:28of Jesus, right? So particularly if you're a
- 48:31Christian, you live in a world at war, folks,
- 48:33so that yes, this is going to be part of your...
- 48:36toolkit for the rest of your life. It's very
- 48:38helpful. I would say, Ryan, a couple of things.
- 48:41One is pay attention to your inner chatter, right?
- 48:46Like tune in. Don't be oblivious to your internal
- 48:50world and the kind of things that you think.
- 48:54See, this is the other lovely thing is to realize
- 48:56not every thought that goes through your head
- 48:58is from you. That's actually a very freeing thing
- 49:02for most people to go, oh my gosh, this negative
- 49:05talk. You mean, it's not all me? No, it's not.
- 49:07You have an enemy. But pay attention, but particularly
- 49:12notice, I'm gonna give you three things. Pay
- 49:15attention to the internal chatter. Notice what
- 49:18comes out of your mouth when you blow it, when
- 49:22you look in the mirror, right? I mean, some people
- 49:25look in the mirror and just go, you're such an,
- 49:27you know, and I. expletives, or you're just so
- 49:31ugly, I can't believe you, or even self -hatred.
- 49:35I hate you. I just hate you. It'll come out of
- 49:38your mouth, folks, these agreements. But thirdly,
- 49:41and probably the most easiest test is, one of
- 49:44the things Jesus gave us is, you shall know them
- 49:46by their fruit. You can test anything by this.
- 49:50Is the fruit love, joy, peace? I just want to
- 49:55stop there. That's so good. The fruit itself,
- 49:57is that literally the nine? Yes, fruit of the
- 50:00Spirit. So it's love, joy, peace, goodness, godliness,
- 50:05kindness, faithfulness. You're close. Patience
- 50:08and self -control. I have nine. They may not
- 50:10be the right nine. Yeah, yeah. Godliness isn't
- 50:12in there. Goodness is, though. Love, joy, peace,
- 50:15patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness
- 50:17and self -control. So those are the nine fruit
- 50:19of the Spirit, not of the flesh, of the Spirit.
- 50:23OK, let's continue because he only he did like
- 50:25a couple there like, hold on a second. I got
- 50:27to get them all fruit. OK, you can test anything
- 50:30by this is the fruit love, joy, peace. You know,
- 50:35is it goodness? Is it intimacy with God? Or is
- 50:39it discouragement, despair, fear, anxiety producing?
- 50:44Look at the fruit of it and just go, wow. Why
- 50:48am I so afraid in this relationship right now?
- 50:51So if it's not one of those nine, or let me,
- 50:55I guess, self -control, I mean, I don't know
- 50:57if you look in the mirror and you have self -control,
- 50:59but if it doesn't fit in any of those nine, then
- 51:02it's definitely not from me. Well, actually it
- 51:06could be, because we can also disparage ourselves,
- 51:09but realize there's a higher influence going
- 51:11on, and that's the liar. The Bible says, Jesus
- 51:16was very clear in John chapter 8 that the devil,
- 51:19he's talking to the Pharisee, the religious rulers,
- 51:21and he's really reaming them out. He's saying,
- 51:25you are of your father, the devil. And then he
- 51:28says who the devil was. He was a murderer from
- 51:31the beginning. a liar and the father of it. I
- 51:34mean, that's how Jesus describes the devil. A
- 51:37murderer from the beginning, a liar and the father
- 51:40of it, of what lies? The father of lies. That's
- 51:43why you hear people say, oh, the devil is the
- 51:44father of lies. That's his nature. That's his
- 51:47character. So that's how he responds to everything.
- 51:50So when things are coming into your mind, it
- 51:53may be you, because we can disparage ourselves.
- 51:56We can talk bad about ourselves. But he's saying,
- 51:59look at the fruit. If what's coming into your
- 52:02mind is goodness, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
- 52:09gentleness, love, if it's that, oh yeah, man,
- 52:13that's good, that's God. But if it's anything
- 52:16else, like he said, disparaging, despair, fear,
- 52:24anxiety, all those things, sometimes it's us.
- 52:28But more often than not, it's demonic in nature.
- 52:32And this is truly where it came down for me.
- 52:34It's like if there's evil in the world, there
- 52:37has to be good. I started with the evil part.
- 52:40But the spiritual warfare is what is real. There
- 52:44is a real devil. There is a real Satan. And I
- 52:48just need to say it out loud so people can hear
- 52:50me say it. There's a real Satan. There's a real
- 52:53God. There's an unseen realm. That was what Michael
- 52:56Heiser called it, the unseen realm. And then
- 53:00Dr. Jack Taylor later years before that even
- 53:03said in his great book called The Hallelujah
- 53:06Factor, he said this, he said, the spiritual
- 53:10realm, the unseen realm is actually more real
- 53:13than this realm. We're stuck. I mean, we're so
- 53:18limited here, right? With matter, gravity, force.
- 53:23We're stuck. We're very trapped in a very real
- 53:27way. But in the spiritual realm, there's complete
- 53:30freedom and it's a whole other world, another
- 53:33realm. It's called the kingdom of God and it's
- 53:37different. And in that realm, there's not that
- 53:40limitation. It's actually more real than what
- 53:43we're living in now because we live in a fallen
- 53:45world. We live in a bad copy of what it was supposed
- 53:49to be, like a fax of a fax of a fax. After a
- 53:53few of those, you can't read anything, right?
- 53:56And so that's what he's talking about. So the
- 54:00enemy traffics in both the natural realm and
- 54:04the supernatural realm. And boy, can he ever
- 54:08whisper things into your mind, whisper things.
- 54:11You're no good. You're not going to make it.
- 54:14You're a loser. Okay, so we got recognized. So
- 54:19that's probably the hardest part. First one,
- 54:21recognize the lie. In fact, you can literally
- 54:24pray. I like to clarify right here. What am I
- 54:29believing that contradicts God's Word? So if
- 54:33you're hearing, you're not going to make it.
- 54:38Nobody loves you. What am I believing about that
- 54:42that contradicts God's Word? We got to know God's
- 54:45Word. And here's the key. This is why biblical
- 54:48illiteracy is so dangerous. Because you have
- 54:52to work the Word. The Word works, but you have
- 54:56to know how to work it. And if you don't know
- 54:57the Word, you can't work it. And if you can't
- 55:00work it, you're in trouble. You won't be able
- 55:03to discern a lie from the truth. It goes way
- 55:07back there. So recognize the lives. And once
- 55:10you recognize, and I always ask this question,
- 55:13Jesus, is this true? Yeah. Is this true about
- 55:17me? Am I what this voice in my head is saying
- 55:21I am? And I'll 99, I have a hundred times, oh
- 55:25no, oh no. Now I don't hear a voice. He didn't
- 55:29talk to me that way. He'll show me something
- 55:31in the word of the scripture or I'll remember
- 55:33a scripture. He says, wait, the Bible says I'm
- 55:36his beloved. The Bible says I'm above only, not
- 55:39beneath. The Bible says I'm his son. Son of a
- 55:42king. Yeah, wow. The Bible says I've been adopted
- 55:45by him. The Bible says I am above reproach. Colossians
- 55:501 .22. I'm afraid to quote scriptures because
- 55:53your boss is going to correct me all day long.
- 55:55That was hilarious last time. Anyway, I digress
- 55:58on that. You go back to God's Word. So recognize
- 56:04the lie. What am I believing that contradicts?
- 56:05That's number one. Number two, now you've got
- 56:07to do something with that. What do you do? You
- 56:09renounce it. To renounce means to formally disagree,
- 56:13to formally disengage. It means to push back.
- 56:16It means to reject. Casting it away. It is pushing
- 56:19it back. You're pushing it back. You're pushing
- 56:22it back saying, oh no, so renounce your agreement
- 56:24with it in a simple way to do that in words This
- 56:27is this will help anybody. This is how I do it
- 56:29in Jesus name. I reject and renounce that lie
- 56:33And sometimes I'll just say what the lie is I
- 56:36read I renounce and reject that lie that says
- 56:39I am not blank blank I just want to give you
- 56:41some data just to back up the the the recognize
- 56:49Queen's University in Canada, we have about six
- 56:52thoughts a minute, about 8 ,640 a day. Up to
- 56:5780 % of daily thoughts are negative. 95 % are
- 57:03repetitive. It's the brain's negativity bias.
- 57:07So we have about a little under 7 ,000 negative
- 57:10thoughts during the day versus 1 ,700. That is
- 57:15very telling. Boy, I mean to have scientific
- 57:18study behind that. But what it also reminds me
- 57:21of is why we need to know the Bible. That's why
- 57:24we've got to get familiar with the Scriptures,
- 57:28because that way we've got something to combat
- 57:30that with. The Bible tells me this. It says,
- 57:33I have the mind of Christ. So if if my natural
- 57:37mind is getting bombarded with all this and getting
- 57:40assaulted with all this negativity By the way
- 57:42happens all I mean think about seven hours a
- 57:45day being on social media you're getting assaulted
- 57:47all the time constantly and Yet if I know the
- 57:51truth and the truth tells me I'm the righteousness
- 57:53of God in Christ Jesus I have the mind of Christ
- 57:56I don't have a spirit of fear but of power love
- 57:58and of a sound mind the ability to think well
- 58:01Then I'm gonna engage that how do you do that
- 58:03by faith? I just say it, Lord, by faith, I engage
- 58:07the mind of Christ. Thank you for giving me the
- 58:09mind. Thank you, Lord, for giving me a sound
- 58:11mind and the ability to think well. And so Lord,
- 58:14with that, in Jesus' name, I reject and renounce
- 58:17that. That is a lie. That is not the truth. And
- 58:21I don't have to keep it. Another principle of
- 58:23that is found in 2 Corinthians, where it talks
- 58:25about, in chapter 10, it talks about taking every
- 58:29thought captive and submitting it to Christ,
- 58:31making it obedient to Christ. So, there's scripture
- 58:34that backs every one of these. So, recognize
- 58:36the lie, renounce your agreement with it. What
- 58:38is an agreement? That's when a lie comes to you
- 58:41and you say, yeah, that's true. Or you do something
- 58:46and you go, I'm so stupid. I remember there was
- 58:49a line, Kersi Alley used to say it on Cheers
- 58:52all time. She said, I'm just too stupid to live.
- 58:54Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she said all the
- 58:56time. I remember thinking, Oh, that even before
- 58:58I was a Christian and I saw that it made me,
- 59:01I didn't feel good about that. I was like, that's
- 59:04a horrible thing to say about yourself. And she
- 59:07said over and over and over and over and her
- 59:08life did not go well. I'm not saying that's the
- 59:10only reason. So when you're looking at Instagram,
- 59:13you're seeing beautiful influencers with filters,
- 59:15et cetera. I mean, it's very normal to think,
- 59:18Oh, especially for young women. I'm never going
- 59:21to look like that. I don't look like that. I'm
- 59:23no good like that. I mean, think about how destructive
- 59:27that is from literally this for our sequence.
- 59:31It's brutal. And so you renounce your agreement
- 59:34with it. Because when we make an agreement, it's
- 59:36like we're shaking hands with the devil. We're
- 59:38shaking hands with something that's bringing
- 59:40something horrible to us. And we're going, yeah,
- 59:43I agree with that. I mean, it sounds absurd,
- 59:46but we do it automatic pilot. Sure. We don't
- 59:49picture ourselves. Just picture yourself shaking
- 59:52hands with the devil. That might help. Ouch.
- 59:54Disparage that a little bit. His hand's a little
- 59:55hot. It's pointy. It's pointy fingernails. So
- 59:58renounce your agreement with it. Then number
- 1:00:00three, then third R is replace. What do you replace
- 1:00:03it with? Truth. Scripture. Right. Jesus said,
- 1:00:06I'm the way, the truth. So you replace it with
- 1:00:09the truth. And this is where you've got to know,
- 1:00:13and it doesn't mean you got to memorize the Bible.
- 1:00:15You just got to know where to go. That's your
- 1:00:17reference point. So it's like I don't need to
- 1:00:20know how a computer works. I just need to know
- 1:00:22how to access things to make it work for me,
- 1:00:24right? Scripture. I don't have to memorize the
- 1:00:26whole Bible, but I need to get familiar with
- 1:00:29it and put some markers, put some Post -It notes
- 1:00:31somewhere so that when these things come to me,
- 1:00:34I can replace it with the truth. Can you give
- 1:00:36them some examples? Yeah, Colossians 1 .22. I
- 1:00:39mean, if I make an agreement that I'm worthless
- 1:00:41and I'm no good, that I'm condemned, I can say,
- 1:00:45no, the Bible says that I've been made the righteous
- 1:00:48of God in Christ Jesus, Colossal 1 .22, I am
- 1:00:51holy, blameless, and above reproach. That's what
- 1:00:54the scripture says. It literally says it. You're
- 1:00:57holy, blameless, and above reproach in His sight.
- 1:00:59But you know, you can't take the Bible literally.
- 1:01:02Even my priest friend said that. Sorry. A little
- 1:01:05call back to the West Wing. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:07That's what I was like to hear Alan Ola saying
- 1:01:09that. So you take the scripture and you repeat
- 1:01:13it to yourself, say it, replace the lie with
- 1:01:16truth. So, you know, when you disagree, when
- 1:01:19you renounce something, you know how to fill
- 1:01:21up and replace the space that took up in your
- 1:01:24brain. Wouldn't it be great if you're reading
- 1:01:26something, you're seeing a picture on social
- 1:01:29media and you think, oh man, I'm never going
- 1:01:30to look like that, that your computer recognized
- 1:01:33that and just popped up and said, what are you
- 1:01:35talking about? That's not true. Here's the truth.
- 1:01:38Here's the truth. Wouldn't that be great? Oh,
- 1:01:40that'd be awesome. But you know what? You can
- 1:01:42train your mind to do this. Boy, the thing about
- 1:01:45neuroplasticity, right? I mean, we can train.
- 1:01:47God wired our brain to be trained, and we can
- 1:01:51train it in positive ways, just like it's already
- 1:01:53trained in negative ways. So we replace it with
- 1:01:56scripture. We say, oh, this is the truth. And
- 1:01:59I'll even say things like, okay, devil, let me
- 1:02:01tell you. First of all, you're reminding me of
- 1:02:04my past and what a mess up I was. Let me remind
- 1:02:06you of your future. You're bound for a lake of
- 1:02:09fire. You're going to be bound, gone, and you
- 1:02:12think you're going to rule in rain down there?
- 1:02:14No, you'll be a slave just like everybody else.
- 1:02:16So I'll get sassy sometimes, but that helps me
- 1:02:20be stronger with what I'm saying. And then I'll
- 1:02:23just remind him of my future. Right. I've been
- 1:02:26raised up seated in heavenly places in Christ
- 1:02:28Jesus. My gosh. Far above all principality, power,
- 1:02:32might, dominion. That's Ephesians 2. Yeah, all
- 1:02:34because I've memorized this stuff. I have the
- 1:02:37ability to use it. You've got a toolkit. A toolkit,
- 1:02:40exactly. But if it's not memorized, you can write
- 1:02:42it down. You can print it off. You can have it
- 1:02:44in front of you. You can have it on your phone
- 1:02:46on a note. You know, what do I do? What does
- 1:02:48the Bible say about me? Number four, resist.
- 1:02:51So, recognize the lie, renounce your agreement,
- 1:02:54replace it with Scripture. Number four, resist.
- 1:02:57Now, what does that mean? And why is that even
- 1:02:59in there? What's based out of Ephesians chapter
- 1:03:01six, James, where it says, resist the devil,
- 1:03:05submit to God, resist the devil, and he will
- 1:03:08flee. So, I don't have that right in front of
- 1:03:10me, but it is in the book of James. And so, taking
- 1:03:13that, we resist when the lie returns because
- 1:03:17the enemy doesn't give up that easy. He'll after
- 1:03:21a period I had a guy come up to me in church
- 1:03:24Between during the meetup and he came came to
- 1:03:27me goes passion me. I had to tell you something
- 1:03:28happened It's interesting you're preaching on
- 1:03:30this because this last week There was a thing
- 1:03:34in my life that happened years ago and it was
- 1:03:36a it was a repetitive thing And I got past it.
- 1:03:39It's gone. I mean I dealt with this years ago
- 1:03:42Just this week it revisited me and I had to fight
- 1:03:46it as hard as when I fought it the first time.
- 1:03:50He said, what is that? And I said, that's you
- 1:03:52having to resist. I said, that's what scripture
- 1:03:54tells us to do. We resist. I said, because the
- 1:03:58enemy can't handle that. Well, and he catches
- 1:04:01you off guard. He catches you comfortable, catches
- 1:04:04you with your guard down, catches you in a vulnerable
- 1:04:07moment or in an emotional moment. We usually
- 1:04:09do a lot of bad things when we're emotionally
- 1:04:12spun up. That's why you and I are always trying
- 1:04:15to spin people down, right? We make terrible
- 1:04:18decisions when we're spun up. And so the enemy
- 1:04:21always tries to come back and re -present things
- 1:04:24to you. And you have to say, no, no, no, no.
- 1:04:26No, that's dealt with. Not today, Satan. Take
- 1:04:30a hike. So resist. And Ephesians 6 .13 says this,
- 1:04:33having done all, stand firm. And then it says,
- 1:04:37having done all to stand. It says, stand therefore.
- 1:04:40And Nathan talks about putting on the full armor
- 1:04:42of God. Yeah, that's that passage. So there it
- 1:04:45is, recognize the lie, renounce your agreement
- 1:04:47with it, replace it with Scripture, resist when
- 1:04:50the lie returns. That is so good. Boom shakalaka.
- 1:04:56Not just I, but Tina, and I saw other people
- 1:05:00walking out lighter on Sunday than when they
- 1:05:03came in. I got people emailing me from around
- 1:05:06the world. This was amazing. I didn't really
- 1:05:10understand. I didn't have the formula. I didn't
- 1:05:13have the formula. And now I have it. Sometimes
- 1:05:14we just need a little help, right? Just something.
- 1:05:17I'm that way. I like to have something in front
- 1:05:19of me that helps me walk through something. Annette
- 1:05:23and I, we read our prayers. We read them out
- 1:05:26of a little book called, Prayers That Avail Much.
- 1:05:29And it's by Jermaine Copeland. And it's a lady,
- 1:05:32she had a prayer group, and they started writing
- 1:05:34down scriptures in prayer form. And then they
- 1:05:37began to put them under topics. Oh, yes, I know
- 1:05:40this. Of course we do. We do that every night.
- 1:05:44I read about Israel last night because today
- 1:05:47is October 7th. That's right. Three -year anniversary
- 1:05:49of horrific evil that was perpetuated against
- 1:05:54those precious people. 1 ,200 plus lost, 200
- 1:05:57plus taken away. And so we prayed for Israel
- 1:06:02last night. We prayed the peace of Jerusalem,
- 1:06:04but there was also a prayer in this book. So
- 1:06:06sometimes we use something that's already written
- 1:06:08down that that helps us walk through these things.
- 1:06:12What's the name of that book again? Prayers That
- 1:06:15Avail Much by Jermaine Copeland. That'll be in
- 1:06:19the show notes. That's an excellent resource.
- 1:06:22You can go to the contents and it lists the prayers
- 1:06:25by topics. Right. Yes. We got this a long time.
- 1:06:29It's time to bring that one back out. We do that
- 1:06:32every night. There's a prayer for going to sleep.
- 1:06:36I'll pray that prayer over us. It's all from
- 1:06:38Scripture. So you're basically praying the Bible,
- 1:06:41and you're putting it in prayer form, and they
- 1:06:43do it for you. So it's very helpful. So they're
- 1:06:46using the Scripture in the prayer itself. Yes.
- 1:06:49Oh, that's so cool. That's excellent. Yeah. Every
- 1:06:51night. I don't get much farther than, you know,
- 1:06:53like, your will be done. Okay, I snuck in some
- 1:06:56Scripture. See what I did there? Hey, but that's
- 1:06:58good. You're starting. Well, I hope these four
- 1:07:00hours will help people because it does give you
- 1:07:02a tool for fighting the mind war. that's coming
- 1:07:06against you. We have some clips here. Do any
- 1:07:09of these fit in at this point? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:10yeah. Go ahead and do a Pakluta on, why don't
- 1:07:13you do the one on salt, light, gospel, and Amsterdam?
- 1:07:17Yeah. I want you to speak to this. I will. That's
- 1:07:20why I captured this. I will. I'm like, this experiment
- 1:07:23has played out right in front of us all the time.
- 1:07:26Just open our eyes and use logic. God is amazing.
- 1:07:30I mean, you can, you know, Jesus said we're salt
- 1:07:32and light. Where Christian values are lived out,
- 1:07:35society has thrived. That's right. There was
- 1:07:39the chief bureau for, man, what was it? It was
- 1:07:46in Beijing. They studied the success of the West.
- 1:07:51And they said, at first we thought it was your
- 1:07:52economy, and then we thought it was your military.
- 1:07:56And we've actually found out it's your religion.
- 1:07:59And where missionaries have gone over here, opium,
- 1:08:03has declined, opium usage has decreased, and
- 1:08:07the people had more money. They were wealthier.
- 1:08:11And it's not the prosperity gospel, it just turns
- 1:08:13out, hey, you use less opium, you have more money,
- 1:08:15you know? And they were saying, hey, this is
- 1:08:18actually what has caused the success of America.
- 1:08:22It's your Christian values. You move away from
- 1:08:26those Christian values, you're going to see decline.
- 1:08:30Where, you know, in Amsterdam, there was what
- 1:08:33was called the Golden Era. It was known for these
- 1:08:36beautiful cathedrals, like beautiful church buildings
- 1:08:39where people would go to worship God. Now, Amsterdam
- 1:08:43is known for secularism and sex trade, and a
- 1:08:46lot of those cathedrals are now skate parks and
- 1:08:48museums. It's even worse than that. They are
- 1:08:52WeWork, offices, office buildings. But we just
- 1:08:57had some... Some people come over for dinner
- 1:09:01last week, and he's Dutch. He's Dieterich. He
- 1:09:06wrote the screenplay for Young Washington, his
- 1:09:08wife Kelly, and she is the CEO of Wonder Project.
- 1:09:12So we met on an airplane. We've always been wanting
- 1:09:14to get together. We had a wonderful evening.
- 1:09:16Great movie by the way. Yes, it's a good one
- 1:09:19and did very well. And, you know, so we were
- 1:09:22a lot of talk about faith and Dieter was actually
- 1:09:26a pastor's kid, but just before he was born,
- 1:09:30his dad and his mom went complete 1960s hippie
- 1:09:34nuts and completely, you know, just he went to
- 1:09:39protests and demonstrations and, you know, sleeping
- 1:09:42in the tent in the Volkswagen van. But he really
- 1:09:47came to his faith when he was back in America
- 1:09:50or when he came to America and he became a citizen,
- 1:09:52but he said, Even having faith at any point in
- 1:09:57and he's a little bit younger than I am not much
- 1:10:00In the Netherlands was a shoot, you know, it's
- 1:10:03like you're a weirdo. That's really Strange.
- 1:10:07What are you talking about? And what and that
- 1:10:11is still this way unless It's Islam Then it's
- 1:10:17groovy fantastic and awesome. That is what and
- 1:10:19it's not just Amsterdam. It is all of the Netherlands.
- 1:10:23It is a large portion of France, of Germany,
- 1:10:27of Scandinavia. I fear it may be irreversible.
- 1:10:32And so what you're seeing now, and I see this
- 1:10:36with many younger people who I know, my daughter
- 1:10:39lives there, my granddaughter lives there, is
- 1:10:43people are moving towards a spiritual thinking,
- 1:10:47but it's about, and you actually mentioned this
- 1:10:52specifically, manifesting. Intentions. Intentions.
- 1:10:59I think people have moved beyond the crystals
- 1:11:02and the singing bowls a little bit, but tarot
- 1:11:06cards are still there, astrology is still there,
- 1:11:10so that's people who are... searching, but they're
- 1:11:14afraid, Jimmy, they're afraid to even use the
- 1:11:17word God. And I know, because we did this silly
- 1:11:21reality show, which is more situated around my
- 1:11:26daughter and the baby, and Tina and I were a
- 1:11:28part of that, and I'm like, we're gonna pray
- 1:11:33at dinner, and I could see the, because there's
- 1:11:36a company producing this, they're like, Yeah,
- 1:11:39yeah, yeah. Let's zoom in. You know, they're
- 1:11:41praying. And we are holding on to Christina's
- 1:11:45belly, praying over the baby. And of course,
- 1:11:50I know how these things work. And I wanted to
- 1:11:52make sure that there was some good promotion
- 1:11:54for Jesus and for the show. And so we made sure
- 1:11:57that we cut that with Adam and all of his guns
- 1:12:01shooting whiskey bottles. And so it froze people's
- 1:12:06brains. Like, how can you be a Jesus lover and
- 1:12:09light guns. You know, I knew that would happen,
- 1:12:12but what it brought is it brought, this guy's
- 1:12:14not ashamed of his faith, nor is his wife, and
- 1:12:19his daughter seems to tolerate it okay. And that
- 1:12:24was my personal mission. I really wanted that
- 1:12:27to take place. And I've gotten a lot of feedback
- 1:12:29from that. People saying, hey, that was really
- 1:12:32great. Now I feel like I can talk about it. This
- 1:12:35decloaking is where we need to go, man. People
- 1:12:38are afraid. Be bold. Be bold. Everybody else
- 1:12:41is. Why can't we? Yes. It's so easy to go along
- 1:12:45to get along. Nobody's doing that anymore anywhere.
- 1:12:50That's old news anyway. Jesus is trending. Go
- 1:12:53look at your timeline. Come on. I'm telling you.
- 1:12:55Get strong. Get bold. Don't be ashamed of the
- 1:12:57gospel. De -cloak already. Be strong. Yes, de
- 1:13:00-cloak. Yeah, that's good. Well, I appreciate
- 1:13:03Jonathan Percluta. He's a evangelist. He does
- 1:13:06this thing called the porch. It's connected with
- 1:13:09Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They have thousands
- 1:13:12of young people, college students come to these
- 1:13:14services. He preaches and teaches there, but
- 1:13:17he's also part of the Unite US revival movement.
- 1:13:19Oh, the Go Around All the Colleges? Yeah, he's
- 1:13:21done hundreds of those. I mean, he's on all those
- 1:13:24campuses. So he's that guy. But I have another
- 1:13:28quote by him I'd like for you to play. And it's
- 1:13:30on his, this is Switching Gears, but this is
- 1:13:34so important. I'm trying to give our listeners,
- 1:13:37a picture of Christianity just from different
- 1:13:40angles. So this is a guy who preaches and teaches.
- 1:13:43He's teaching at a school, a seminary, for Christian
- 1:13:46students getting ready for ministry. He decides,
- 1:13:51I'm going to confess something that happened
- 1:13:53in the hotel last night before I preach. There
- 1:13:56is times I still have to confess before a sermon,
- 1:13:59hey, I did something last night that I would
- 1:14:02ask you not to do. And to be clear, to remove
- 1:14:04any mystery, what I mean by that is like, hey,
- 1:14:06I slowed down on a reel. On Instagram, I was
- 1:14:09looking and something caught my eye and I looked
- 1:14:12lustfully at an image and I want to confess that
- 1:14:15because I... don't want to hide it. You know,
- 1:14:18what you hide will take you out. That's what
- 1:14:20you said, obviously, 10 plus years ago. That's
- 1:14:22right. I remember. And I'll tell you another
- 1:14:24part of that story is then a seminary had asked
- 1:14:27me to come and speak on how to reach the next
- 1:14:29generation. And I told that story because the
- 1:14:32punchline is that night, it didn't have anything
- 1:14:34to do with the sermon. I prayed and then I preached
- 1:14:36a sermon that had nothing to do with that. And
- 1:14:38then that night was the longest line, and the
- 1:14:41security had to shut us down because at 11 p
- 1:14:43.m., we were still there meeting with people
- 1:14:45and nobody wanted to talk about the sermon. They
- 1:14:47were like, hey, I'm struggling too. Hey, how
- 1:14:49do I get free? How do I find free? I'm struggling.
- 1:14:51Me too, me too. And so I was like, had those
- 1:14:54conversations. And so I said that at a seminary
- 1:14:56who asked me how to reach the next generation.
- 1:14:58I said, they want somebody that's going to be
- 1:14:59real with them. And the feedback I got afterwards,
- 1:15:03because they filled out comment cards, was like,
- 1:15:05hey, how dare you? use the word pornography in
- 1:15:08a mixed gendered audience, and you have to present
- 1:15:10to be holy. I remember one said, you have to
- 1:15:12present to be holy. And I was reading these comic
- 1:15:14cards, and I just started weeping, like weeping
- 1:15:16hysterically, because I was like, they'll never
- 1:15:18reach them. Who said this? It was people who
- 1:15:22were preparing to be pastors, and they were at
- 1:15:25the seminary, and they wanted me to talk about,
- 1:15:27train them on how to reach the next generation.
- 1:15:29And they were saying, hey, you need to present
- 1:15:31to be holy. I was like, you're never going to
- 1:15:33reach the next generation. So, who were the people
- 1:15:36who were lined up that were just students? They
- 1:15:37were students, because it was a seminary, so
- 1:15:40they were students from all kinds of disciplines
- 1:15:42like psychology students. It's not just ministry.
- 1:15:46It's various things. And so they were all being
- 1:15:49touched saying, wow, this is my… They were like,
- 1:15:50I need to talk about this. So much so that at
- 1:15:5311 o 'clock they had to close the place down.
- 1:15:56all the proper students becoming pastors and
- 1:15:59ministers. How dare you do this? You've got to
- 1:16:01present holy. Wow. Yeah. Wow. That's the problem.
- 1:16:06And see, that is why the church made itself irrelevant
- 1:16:10to the world, because we quit talking about what
- 1:16:13was really going on. And now, of course, all
- 1:16:15that's getting blown up. So it's kind of like
- 1:16:18Netanyah, we have a saying, no secrets, no leverage.
- 1:16:21Yeah. Man, if there's no secrets in our lives,
- 1:16:24then the enemy has no leverage on us. I think
- 1:16:26he said it, I hope I can remember how he said
- 1:16:29it, but he said, what we hide... Will take you
- 1:16:34out. Will take you out. Yeah. Yeah. What we hide
- 1:16:39will take us out. Boy, isn't that the truth.
- 1:16:41It is so true. I mean, gosh, look at Robert Morris,
- 1:16:4430 years later, the secret he kept for 30 years
- 1:16:47blew his whole ministry and life up. He's out.
- 1:16:50He had one of the largest churches in America,
- 1:16:52but it's something he hid. The reason I brought
- 1:16:57that up is I appreciated Jonathan's honesty and
- 1:17:00transparency. We need more of that in the church
- 1:17:03where people will just say, man, I had a bad
- 1:17:05day. I had a bad night. I messed up. I made a
- 1:17:08mistake, but here's the deal. But because I outed
- 1:17:11that, there's grace. God's grace is sufficient.
- 1:17:15It's enough. It's interesting because on Sundays,
- 1:17:18everyone's like, hey, how you doing? I'm great.
- 1:17:19I'm great. How you doing? Oh, fantastic. Everyone's
- 1:17:21great. But then you go to men's ministry and
- 1:17:24it gets real. I'm like, okay, man, here's what
- 1:17:26I'm struggling with. Here's what I'm dealing
- 1:17:29with right now. Different atmosphere. And it's
- 1:17:31kind of crazy. By design, we designed the men's
- 1:17:34ministry to create safe spaces because you do
- 1:17:37need a place. You need a place to live up in
- 1:17:40a down world. high -five each other. But you
- 1:17:43also need a place to get real, and that's what
- 1:17:45that's for, by design. A couple of quick pieces
- 1:17:48of feedback. Justin says, thank you for the podcast,
- 1:17:52the commentary on culture and media, something
- 1:17:54vital that the church needs to engage in more.
- 1:17:58I'm not sure if you've heard of the new faith
- 1:17:59-based film that was released, Beyond Belief,
- 1:18:02set in the 1980s about a teen who forms a Christian
- 1:18:04garage band. Have you heard about this one? Yeah,
- 1:18:06yeah. It has to do with the band Petra. Oh, is
- 1:18:08that Petra? Well, he wanted to become a part
- 1:18:10of the band, Petra. So it's not their story.
- 1:18:13Totally. Oh, okay. Part of it. Streaming now
- 1:18:16is that I don't know but I want to see it because
- 1:18:18I didn't see a trailer for it. Yeah, excellent
- 1:18:21That's what I want to see Marion Marion passage
- 1:18:24of me now and thank you for yet another fantastic
- 1:18:26episode I'm excited to dive into wild at heart
- 1:18:28as it sounds incredibly enlightening. Yes, so
- 1:18:30I wrote her back and said it's a dude book I
- 1:18:34said, but there's a female version called captivated
- 1:18:37that Stacey Stacey Eldred Rote, his wife. Oh,
- 1:18:42okay. And Annette's read that, loved it. So,
- 1:18:45it's the counter. It's the other side. Connie
- 1:18:48from the Netherlands. Adam and Pastor Jimmy,
- 1:18:51thank you for your show. And I love it. I love
- 1:18:54that the Bible verses are mentioned. We also
- 1:18:56put them in the show notes at WGTDT .com. I am
- 1:18:59Dutch, so I don't always recognize them, but
- 1:19:02I can look them up in my Bible. God bless you,
- 1:19:04Connie. Beautiful. Beautiful, Connie. And that's
- 1:19:06why we're putting them on there. Yes. That's
- 1:19:08why we do it. And I guess, yeah, now we need
- 1:19:11to thank some people who have supported us, value
- 1:19:14for value, as that is the engine that drives
- 1:19:17us, besides Jesus, obviously, wgtdtdonations
- 1:19:22.com. While it's still relatively few, that means
- 1:19:26that we can thank everybody personally, and it's
- 1:19:29a joy to do that. I'll kick it off with Marco
- 1:19:31Mack, who comes in with $88 .88. We really appreciate
- 1:19:35that. That's great encouragement. says, thank
- 1:19:39you, Adam and Pastor Jimmy, for being there.
- 1:19:41I look forward to connecting with you in Fredericksburg
- 1:19:43on October 17th at the meetup. Unfortunately,
- 1:19:46you and Damon will not be there because you're
- 1:19:49going to a funeral. We'll be at a funeral in
- 1:19:51Nashville. But I will be there, and I'm pretty
- 1:19:53sure Tina the Keeper will join me. And he will
- 1:19:57be extending his stay so we can join our 9 a
- 1:20:00.m. Sunday service. Cool. Jill Price. Also, 8888.
- 1:20:04Jimmy, you want to take that one? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:07McKinney Texas, yay. And hope she's holding it
- 1:20:10down for Christianity there. McKinney's on the
- 1:20:13map right now for some not good reasons with
- 1:20:15Islam stuff. But in the morning, Adam and Pastor
- 1:20:17Jimmy, I'm sending a separate note. In the morning,
- 1:20:20oh, she says it again. I started listening to
- 1:20:23you after JCD's passing and have tried to go
- 1:20:25all the way back to the beginning. It has been
- 1:20:27good for me to hear your insight on what is going
- 1:20:29on politically. and how to look at it and pray
- 1:20:32about it from a Christian perspective. I have
- 1:20:35a massive request. A friend of mine's son, Jack
- 1:20:37Maloof, needs major prayers. He's a 20 -year
- 1:20:40-old young man from Austin attending Austin Christian.
- 1:20:43He drove into a lake. He dove into a lake in
- 1:20:49Austin last week. The water was shallow. Oh my
- 1:20:51gosh. This is bad. He has a spinal cord injury
- 1:20:55that as of right now has paralyzed all four limbs.
- 1:20:59their current prayer is for him to be able to
- 1:21:02breathe on his own. Wow. I'm going to for you
- 1:21:04the GoFundMe page. But what she's asking for
- 1:21:07is prayer that even our get -to nation would
- 1:21:10just take this on as a prayer. So let me get
- 1:21:12his name again. It's Jack is his name, Maloof,
- 1:21:16God knows who he is. And this is from Jill Price.
- 1:21:19So man, just all the army out there, all the
- 1:21:23nation, let's keep him in prayer. and hold them
- 1:21:26up and just pray for a breakthrough. So let me
- 1:21:28pray right now. Father, I lift up Jack Maloof.
- 1:21:32Just such a heartbreaking story here and event
- 1:21:36that has happened. We pray for a breakthrough
- 1:21:38in his life that you would touch him physically
- 1:21:40and his family, Lord, and his friends, just the
- 1:21:43ripple effect of people that have been impacted
- 1:21:45by this accident. We pray for a breakthrough.
- 1:21:48Holy Spirit, we ask you to do what only you can
- 1:21:50do in this situation. she would bring healing
- 1:21:53where it doesn't seem possible. You'll make a
- 1:21:56way where there seems to be no way on Jack's
- 1:21:58behalf. Again, we lift up Jill, their family,
- 1:22:01his family, and we just put our faith together
- 1:22:04and ask you, Lord, to do something that's miraculous
- 1:22:07in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Wow. Dame Teresa
- 1:22:11Martin. Now, this came in as a check. through
- 1:22:14the PL box, which you can find at WGTDTdonations
- 1:22:18.com. 7777, we love this. Dear Adam, Pastor Jimmy,
- 1:22:22I'm loving WGTDT! It's wonderful to get the media

- 1:22:31so encouraged. I still enjoy No Agenda, but this
- 1:22:34podcast resonates more fully with my soul. Sincerely,
- 1:22:38Dame Teresa Martin from Camarillo, California.
- 1:22:41Just have a PS. Adam, thank you for calming me
- 1:22:44down about AI. I downloaded the Muse robot thing.
- 1:22:47Yeah, there you go. Call it the robot. And I've
- 1:22:49found it a very, very useful tool for my tasks
- 1:22:51and chores. It frees up my time by working quietly
- 1:22:54in the background on the mind -numbing busy work
- 1:22:56in a day. Excellent. It's what it's for. Love
- 1:22:59hearing that. Man, that's great. Dame Teresa.

- 1:23:39Carolina. We know Shelley. $30. Thank you, Shelley.
- 1:23:42I feel it's only fitting to give y 'all instead
- 1:23:45of Zuckerberg for the news tip. I appreciate
- 1:23:49that, Shelley. That's cool. Love that. Can you
- 1:23:52do the rest, brother? Because I don't have the
- 1:23:53location. Yeah. So, Andrew Bader from Brookheaven,
- 1:23:56Pennsylvania, 1111. Cool. Fear is not sufficient
- 1:23:59for salvation. Only faith is. Thank you for trying
- 1:24:02to encourage believers to not take the bait.
- 1:24:05A fearful Christian either isn't or is immature.
- 1:24:11Sorry. A fearful Christian either isn't or is
- 1:24:14immature. God has already won. Indeed, brother.
- 1:24:18John's Creek Studios LLC, no location there,
- 1:24:22$5 .65. Nicholas Start, no location, $5 .00.
- 1:24:28Dwayne Spellman Jr., $1 .53, faithful as always.
- 1:24:33And Michael Mason, $1 .21. He says, this week
- 1:24:35I would like to donate $1 .21 for Jude 121, NIV.
- 1:24:40Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for
- 1:24:42the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you
- 1:24:44eternal life. Have a blessed week." So, I want
- 1:24:47to get him in the Psalms because there's 150
- 1:24:49of those. That would bump up his donation considerably.
- 1:24:55Hey, Michael, get into the Psalms, brother. Hey,
- 1:24:58so appreciate that. I love the correlation with
- 1:25:00Scripture there. That's cool, Michael. Just messing
- 1:25:02with you. That's it. Thank you all so much for
- 1:25:05supporting us. Value for value, time, talent,
- 1:25:08treasure. The best thing you can do is tell somebody
- 1:25:10about the podcast. Get them subscribed to it.
- 1:25:14Go to WGTDT .com. That's where you can subscribe
- 1:25:18to our sub stack. You don't have to pay for it
- 1:25:20only if you want to. And we have a donation page,
- 1:25:23WGTDTdonations .com. Pastor Jimmy, please take
- 1:25:26us out with a daily grind. All right. Well, this
- 1:25:28is the daily grind and today's scripture is Matthew
- 1:25:31chapter 9 verse verses 37 and 38. Then he said
- 1:25:36to his disciples, the harvest is truly plentiful,
- 1:25:38but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the
- 1:25:41Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into
- 1:25:44his harvest. The title of today's Daily Grind
- 1:25:46is The Gospel Cannot Stay Silent. As it was in
- 1:25:50Jesus' day, so it is today. The harvest is plentiful.
- 1:25:54However, we must have laborers who are willing
- 1:25:57to freely and readily share their faith. It's
- 1:25:59not the harvest that's the issue, it's the harvesters.
- 1:26:03I sense the Lord is imparting the spirit and
- 1:26:05gift of evangelism to those who are willing to
- 1:26:08step forward and say, here I am, send me. If
- 1:26:12the gospel really is good news to you, then step
- 1:26:15out into the fields and let's bring in the harvest.
- 1:26:18So for today, look for opportunities to share
- 1:26:21your good news story today. It doesn't have to
- 1:26:24be an hour long presentation, simply remind someone
- 1:26:27that Jesus loves them and has an amazing plan
- 1:26:30for their life. And here's today's prayer. Father,
- 1:26:33here I am. Send me into your harvest fields.
- 1:26:36I trust you will give me what to say as I step
- 1:26:39out in faith to share the good news of Jesus.
- 1:26:42In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
