Latest / Elite Heat / Full Gear Fallout
Transcript
- 0:01Tim: Alright. Second episode of Elite Heat. Thus far, no one has kicked us off the Internet, so that's pretty good.
- 0:09Doug: Not yet. Although I did get a notice from it just said internet@gmail.internet.com.
- 0:16Tim: Well, I feel like you kinda did get kicked off the internet, but we'll get to that. Oh my god. We'll get to that. Alright. So I wanna point out as we launch into the Full Gear fallout here.
- 0:27Doug: Jeez.
- 0:28Tim: That as badly as we did picking the matches for Full Gear, and we did not do well
- 0:34Doug: No. We did not.
- 0:35Tim: I feel like we did a tremendous job of predicting where they were going next.
- 0:41Doug: Oh, I think so. Yeah. Because I
- 0:43Tim: a lot of the stuff that we were like, oh, they might do this has started to happen. So
- 0:48Doug: Yes. Absolutely. It has.
- 0:50Tim: Yeah. Alright. So let's get into it then. I know you said you joined late because you were doing dishes, which is
- 0:57Doug: I joined I tell you what, this this Wednesday before Thanksgiving
- 1:01Tim: I get it.
- 1:02Doug: I'm just tooling away, la di da, and I looked up and I went, I bet dynamite started. Maybe I should watch.
- 1:10Tim: Yeah. Also, we're gonna try and keep this a lot shorter than full gear. We're gonna try and keep these to around thirty minutes. So let's get into it. I felt that it was perhaps unfair to start the show with Okada and Kyle Fletcher because holy crap was that a high bar to set for the nights.
- 1:26Doug: Yeah. I was really stunned that yeah. Although, you know, when you think about it, Dynamite, they like to start with their big guns going, man.
- 1:32Tim: They do. Yeah. He Tony likes to set the tone early. Mhmm. But I I mean, I thought it was really good.
- 1:39When it ended, I went this is this is one of the measures of if it was a good match for me. When it ended, I went, well then. I mean, it was good. I I Did everything about it. What's that?
- 1:50Doug: Did you pouch?
- 1:51Tim: You know I did. You know I did.
- 1:54Doug: Alright.
- 1:56Tim: This pouch, not brought to you by Blue Chew. Could be. Could be. Could be.
- 2:01Doug: And let me say hats off to the AEW social media team for posting clips almost immediately because I was able to quickly catch up on some of the highlights. And, man, you're right. That that was that was a banger from the word go. Those guys
- 2:15Tim: It was.
- 2:16Doug: And you expected nothing less from those two.
- 2:19Tim: Yeah. I I thought they told a tremendous story. Basically, what I'm guessing you missed at the beginning was they were mirroring each other's moves.
- 2:28Doug: Mhmm.
- 2:29Tim: I mean, they were just doing the same thing, which makes sense. Right? Because kayfabe is they they are all part of the same team. They train together, so they know what each one's gonna do. Right?
- 2:38Doug: Right.
- 2:39Tim: I thought it was tremendous in ring storytelling. I'm not gonna lie to you. I understand that Kyle Fletcher is very much in line for big push. I Yep. You could argue he's already getting it.
- 2:52We talked a bit about, I think this dude is definitely a future world champ. I still thought Okada was gonna go over, so I was surprised that Okada did not.
- 3:01Doug: If if I was calling it, would have gotten another one wrong because I would have picked Okada.
- 3:05Tim: Yep. And But I thought it good.
- 3:08Doug: I'm okay and I'm okay with Fletcher winning because either one of those guys winning is fine with me, but I really thought Okada was gonna win, but that was not to be.
- 3:17Tim: No. Also, by the way, since I've been picking on you a bit, I do wanna point out my overhead light is pretty much burnt out, so I just have from the side. So we remain super, super professional. That's okay. Yeah.
- 3:29After that, got a Mark Briscoe promo that I thought was really good. One of the screens. Yeah. One of the things I really love about Mark Briscoe is it feels authentic all the time with him.
- 3:43Doug: Absolutely.
- 3:45Tim: Even when he does the goofy promos, I'm like, well, yeah, but I kinda think that's who he is.
- 3:49Doug: Yeah. He reminds me in that manner of Eddie Kingston who Mhmm. Think it's Simon Miller who likes to say no one has told Eddie Kingston that this wrestling is a job. And and so Eddie buys in. You buy into Eddie in the same way with with Mark Briscoe.
- 4:06I Mhmm. He just seems sincere and genuine, and that seems to be who his character is is him.
- 4:12Tim: Yeah. I I I thought it felt very real. I I echo what Excalibur said. I'm excited to see what he does with the TNT championship.
- 4:20Doug: 100%. I'm very happy that he's the guy carrying it, and it I'm hoping, like you said, I think you said on our, on the full gear pay per view review that, hopefully, he'll do, like, a like, an open challenge every week. And so, hopefully, starting soon, maybe after the continental classic wraps up, we'll start seeing some more of that because I have a feeling continental classic is gonna eat up a lot of that available time.
- 4:44Tim: So Yeah. It it definitely is. And it should. It should. I mean, especially with such a loaded field, it should.
- 4:52But I think it might start working its way into collision at some point.
- 4:57Doug: Yeah.
- 4:57Tim: I also think probably they were like, you go home and deal with all this going on with all the blood.
- 5:06Doug: Speaking of all that, we'll get into that in just a little bit. Okay.
- 5:10Tim: Yeah. So next, we had the sisters of sin versus babes of wrath. It's fine.
- 5:15Doug: You knew where that was going.
- 5:17Tim: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it it was fine. You know, of the four teams that were left, I always felt like sisters of sin were probably the ones least likely to move on, least likely to win it. I do, however, think depending on who wins the initial, who wins the belts first, they might be the first challenger.
- 5:37We'll see.
- 5:38Doug: They should be. They should be. I mean, they've made it this far into the tournament, so I wouldn't hate that. And it would be nice to see them, you know, get a little bit more exposure. I think that team has some legs to them, and they should be given some more opportunities.
- 5:51So, yeah, I'd love to see that.
- 5:53Tim: Yep. Kudos, by the way. I promise I won't be one of these guys doing this a lot, but kudos to Nigel for covering the botched moonsault really well. He explained it away really well of, oh, she thought, you know, for a fraction of a second, it looked like she was gonna get her legs up. So Julia Hart adjusted the way she should have.
- 6:10Now she she biffed it, but it's okay. It's alright. You're you're gonna miss sometimes. It's alright.
- 6:15Doug: Yeah. Look. People are people.
- 6:16Tim: Yeah. But it was fine. It was fine. Yeah. And I continue to like Harley and Willow, so, you know, whatever.
- 6:21What'd you think of the Joe promo that followed?
- 6:25Doug: Here are my notes. Mhmm. Starts with Joe's head, hangman's face. Yeah. Because Joe's head I don't that looked like a hard way busted open scar because that whew, that was not pretty.
- 6:43My wife, the ER nurse goes, what's wrong with his head? And I told her and she goes,
- 6:49Tim: well, that's gross. Yeah. I I mean, I think we sort of touched on it in the last episode of the way that Joe was bleeding through that match, and it happened quick. Yeah. It made me I mean, we didn't talk about it a lot because we were talking more about, you know, the actual match and the storyline and everything.
- 7:09But I did think while watching it, was like, I don't think that was supposed to happen. I think he got busted open the hard way.
- 7:15Doug: I do too. And and looking at that stitch job, it if that was if he gigged it, he did a he did a
- 7:22Tim: bad Yeah. No. I think he got busted open the hard way. Mhmm. I I will tell you this.
- 7:28So quick side story. I actually spoke with Cezar Bononi this week.
- 7:35Doug: Oh, okay.
- 7:36Tim: You know, he was in AEW for a while, and and I'm actually gonna work with him to try and be less thick. But he asked me, he's like, so who's your favorite wrestler right now? Was like, oh, Hangman. And he goes, that dude hits hard. So I don't know if Hangman busted him open accidentally or if it was it was probably the cage, but either way
- 7:59Doug: I think it was that cage shot because I think he took
- 8:02Tim: it so too.
- 8:02Doug: To the support. Yeah. I I think so too. Yeah. Not the mesh.
- 8:06So, yeah, that's not stunning.
- 8:08Tim: So it is surprising.
- 8:09Doug: Is it surprising key hangman hits hard? No.
- 8:13Tim: No. No. You can just tell. He's getting him in. Yeah.
- 8:17Yep. I think he takes the, Rob Van Dam, AJ Styles approach of if you can't handle this, you're probably in the wrong business. So
- 8:25Doug: 100%. Yep. Yeah.
- 8:30Tim: His head looked gnarly.
- 8:31Doug: And then just real quick, at the end, when Hangman became an actual Hangman, that was pretty gnarly.
- 8:37Tim: It was. It was. I yeah. I mean, I enjoyed I like the idea that Hook purposely made himself the weak link. Oh.
- 8:47Purposely was tapping and losing these multi person matches. I liked that. I thought that was clever and like, oh, I see what you guys did. Look at that. Aren't you crafty?
- 8:58Doug: And see, that's the kind of thing where I have to when people go, AW doesn't tell stories. Yeah. They do. You're just not paying attention.
- 9:05Tim: Yeah.
- 9:06Doug: Because that was storytelling from the word go. Mhmm. And it's only when you look back in hindsight and go,
- 9:12Tim: oh, yeah.
- 9:13Doug: That makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, again, hats off because I think Hook did a great job, and he's he's he makes a good squirrelly heel right now.
- 9:23He does. I like that. Yeah.
- 9:24Tim: Yep. Other things I wrote down, how long is the walk from the backstage area? Because boy, it seemed like Hangman and Swerve took forever to get there.
- 9:34Doug: Well, they were carrying heavy chains.
- 9:36Tim: Wow. That's
- 9:37Doug: And they didn't come out of the ramp. They came through the crowd. And Hangman had to order a shot.
- 9:42Tim: Well, yeah. I did, however, really enjoy the way that they shot that and everything with them stalking the ring. I I thought that was really good. I thought that was really cool. That was really cool.
- 9:55I love that they didn't say anything. I hoped that they wouldn't, so I'm glad that they did that. Yeah. I mean, that was mostly what I wrote down there.
- 10:05Doug: And here's here's a similar note. I'm glad we didn't get the we're gonna run them off, and then we're gonna glare at each other. Like, do we trust each other? There was none of that BS. It was just, we're gonna go whoop them, and they did.
- 10:20And I really like that.
- 10:22Tim: Yep. Two, quick more little additions to that, and then we'll move on. Number one, I'm gonna shout out Chris Van Vliet, who I think has a tremendous podcast, when he interviews wrestlers. I think he's probably the best interviewer working today or one of the best anyway. He had Swerve on this week.
- 10:39Swerve goes in pretty deep on the feud with him and Hangman. Really interesting stuff to listen to. I really enjoyed it. So check that out after you're finished listening to this. Yes.
- 10:52The other note
- 10:53Doug: wait. Go ahead.
- 10:54Tim: Yeah. Yeah. We'll wait for an hour and a half. It's
- 10:57Doug: fine. Yeah.
- 10:58Tim: The other note that I had is, Cody Rhodes, that is how you use big words. The way Joe did it was correct.
- 11:10Doug: That's I wasn't a 100% sure what you meant, like, if Joe was using them poorly or if but, yes, you were 100%. Everything
- 11:17Tim: he did there was like, that is absolutely the correct word, whereas Cody gets close. Yes. And
- 11:26Doug: Joe Joe, he comes across just he he's he comes across as just this giant cocky he and he's he's he plays it so well. Like, he it's I was a little mad that he won, but now I'm kinda not.
- 11:43Tim: I think
- 11:44Doug: You know what I mean?
- 11:45Tim: Yep. That that's how I felt too. I was kinda mad that he won. I will say that with it not being a clear direction where they're going, and I don't think it's clear where they're going tonight. Right?
- 12:00Like, I don't I still think the triple threat is in play for World's End. I think what's more likely is some sort of tag match. Not sure. I feel like Tony's gonna wanna get the title on the card, but I I don't know. I don't
- 12:17Doug: Wouldn't shock me to see Shabbatta and Hook against Mhmm. Hangman and Swerve.
- 12:23Tim: Or Powerhouse. Yeah.
- 12:25Doug: Yeah. It could be Powerhouse and Shabbatta or Powerhouse. Yeah. They they're probably gonna keep Hook away from them as well as Joe away from them for a minute.
- 12:32Tim: So too. Yeah. Or, you know, it it could be some sort of six man where Eddie's gonna get involved.
- 12:38Doug: Mhmm.
- 12:39Tim: I don't know. I don't know. But I I will say this. The fact that I don't really have any idea where we're going with it, but that might have been my favorite segment of the show. Yeah.
- 12:52That was really good. He did it right.
- 12:54Doug: It was really good. Did it right. Looking back on it, I'm really stunned that we didn't see an Eddie Kingston run-in because it seems so Eddie Kingston to just Mhmm. Go after Hook regardless of what's going on. He doesn't care if Hangman and Swerve and and Joe are all that he does not care.
- 13:11So I was a little shocked we didn't see that, but that's okay. We can save that
- 13:15Tim: Yeah.
- 13:15Doug: Because I I want that to get a little bit of breath and and let them run with that for a little while.
- 13:20Tim: Yep. I I was surprised by that too. Yeah. That was interesting. And then the pretape because I'm pretty sure his promo was pretaped.
- 13:28Surprised me too. I don't know no. No. No. Eddie's.
- 13:33Did you not see that? Yeah.
- 13:35Doug: No. No. No. No. That was with that
- 13:37Tim: was before everything biffed on you? Yeah.
- 13:39Doug: Yeah. I've
- 13:40Tim: Yeah. Okay. So after that, we got a Mox promo. So I swear I saw this somewhere on social media, and now I can't find it again. So I don't know if AEW put it out or if somebody else did or if I just hallucinated all of it.
- 13:55Okay. That that, like, Mox was talking back stage and the death riders were kinda side eyeing him, especially Pac. They were kinda Cannot not like like, kinda like, what's this dude's deal? You can't wanna imagine. What's this dude's deal?
- 14:11Right?
- 14:12Doug: Yes. I I saw that clip the the I think just yesterday, and then they showed a little bit of it again today. And I made notes because this is what I thought. Mhmm. So according to Moxley, celebrating means you're not a professional wrestler.
- 14:29Getting medical attention means you're not a professional wrestler. He certainly seems to know what isn't a professional wrestler, but I don't. This goes back to what we were saying about these weird rambling promos. So what is your point, Mox? I don't I'm still not clear on what you're saying.
- 14:47So you tapped out, but Kyle went to the hospital. So you're the professional wrestler? I guess I don't I don't understand it.
- 14:59Tim: I I know
- 15:00Doug: dumb, and I am, but No.
- 15:02Tim: I I I I don't get it either. I wrote down maybe I couldn't hear it very well because I don't know if everybody has this problem, but my HBO Max, there can be volume mix issues. So I was like, maybe I just didn't hear it very well, but it didn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. What I made note of was everybody, all the death riders were looking at him except Pac. He never looks at him during that promo.
- 15:31Doug: I think
- 15:32Tim: that's very telling.
- 15:33Doug: I'll have to go look at that again.
- 15:35Tim: I once again think maybe we got that one right.
- 15:38Doug: I I yep. It's entirely possible. Yep. Entirely possible.
- 15:42Tim: We'll see. We'll see. So then Mox versus Mascarra Dorada.
- 15:47Doug: I just wrote down Dorado
- 15:49Tim: so I wouldn't forget. Mascarra Dorada. There we the r's very well. But I know that the the line means the emphasis goes there. The accent means the emphasis
- 15:58Doug: goes there. Is it tilde?
- 16:00Tim: Tilde? No. That's the wavy line. Oh. The accent is just the, like, apostrophe looking deal that goes over a letter.
- 16:07Doug: Apostrophe they got drunk and fell over the other way? Uh-huh. Yeah. Okay. Got it right.
- 16:12Got it in one.
- 16:13Tim: Yeah. Good job. Proud of you. I Yeah. The dive.
- 16:19I thought they were both dead. I I thought they were both dead. I was like, oh my god.
- 16:25Doug: Here's what I wrote. Mox dive exclamation point. And then I said, so is that now a death dive? A dive writer? What are we looking at?
- 16:36Tim: I said all of the above. The way that he came through there, I was like first of all, I was like, I'm not sure this is a good idea just off the height discrepancy, but then I was like, oh, no. And boy, he saved it at the last second, but I thought I thought at least Mox was dead if I both bent
- 16:55Doug: the wrong way. Yep. And it didn't look comfortable.
- 17:00Tim: Nope. No. Did. So I definitely wrote that down. Mhmm.
- 17:04I liked that Moxley had to really work for this one. It felt like he got drug into the deep water on this one. And it wasn't very long ago that that's not what would have happened there.
- 17:18Doug: I thought for a minute Dorado was gonna take it, and we're gonna continue down the path of Mox losing. I was a little surprised that they that Moxley won. Mhmm. But I don't know if you noticed. I wrote this down.
- 17:31Maybe it up until this point, it was line of the night for me. But at one point, he's on the outside going in. Someone from the crowd yells, get the fork, and he, without missing a beat, goes, not tonight, and he gets in the ring.
- 17:46Tim: I totally missed that. But that's
- 17:48Doug: So funny. Yeah. He's Maybe you like.
- 17:50Tim: I have long believed that he is at his best when he's in the ring. And by that, I don't even mean wrestling a match. His in ring promos are the best ones that he does. He's not as good backstage and on the pretape and all that. It's when he's face to face, and and I think I think he just works better that way.
- 18:13That live crowd more energy. Of that. What's that?
- 18:16Doug: That live crowd energy, I think that helps him out a lot.
- 18:18Tim: Yeah. I think so too. I think he's much better on his feet in the ring, than anywhere else. So I'd like to see them do more of that with him. Yes.
- 18:26But, like I said, I I I like that he had to work for it. I think it keeps the storyline that he's not at the top of his game going. Mhmm. It's more fuel for the death rider breakup fire.
- 18:39Doug: Yep.
- 18:40Tim: So The
- 18:41Doug: only the only other note I have was did Dorado do a two winged angel? Was that that move near the end? What was that?
- 18:49Tim: Don't know what that was. But
- 18:50Doug: When he had him on his shoulders and
- 18:52Tim: The out of the electric chair. Yeah. I I don't know. But it was cool. Yeah.
- 18:57It was cool. And I I was really impressed by the way Mox was able to flip through it. I was like
- 19:05Doug: That whole thing was just really good.
- 19:07Tim: Are we going with this? But that was Yeah. That was impressive.
- 19:10Doug: Yeah. That whole thing looked really good. I was very that whole match, I that was a surprisingly good match for me. I really thought that was good. So
- 19:17Tim: The the last thing that I'll say about it is not that long ago, I would have seen Jon Moxley in this field and gone, oh, he's winning. Because, of course, he's winning. Yeah. I was thinking about it, I think, during a commercial break or something. Not only do I not think Jon Moxley is winning this, I don't think he makes the final.
- 19:36He may not make the semifinal, but I don't think he makes the final.
- 19:40Doug: Okay.
- 19:41Tim: I mean Okay. He's gonna have to go through I think Orange Cassidy might beat him. I'm gonna be really intrigued by the him and Claudio matchup, especially after tonight.
- 19:52Doug: Yes. One
- 19:53Tim: time. Know who I don't know who wins that one, but he's in the league with Takeshita, and I think Takeshita's coming out of it. So he might make the semifinal. He might get to I mean, he'll probably will just to get him on the card at world's end.
- 20:05Doug: Mhmm.
- 20:06Tim: But I think Takeshita has gone over. I I don't think he makes the final.
- 20:10Doug: Okay. I'm I won't argue that.
- 20:13Tim: I remain utterly convinced until I am presented with evidence to the contrary that the final will be especially because Takeshita is in a separate league from Okada and Fletcher Mhmm. That it's gonna be Takeshita and then one of those two dudes. I think the semifinal may end up being Okada and Fletcher again in, you know, obviously, to whoever wins that. So and I don't know who's gonna win it between the two of them, which is super fun. I prefer me wrestling that way.
- 20:44Doug: So Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 20:47Tim: Toni Storm, here's my question to you. Is she the best promo in professional wrestling right now?
- 20:53Doug: Yes. Agree. She overtook the not tonight get the fork not tonight with, oh, I wrote it down. I don't wanna mess it up.
- 21:03Tim: Okay.
- 21:04Doug: It made me laugh so hard again when she called them slop tarts. Yes. Thank you, Tony Storm.
- 21:11Tim: I died. I laughed out loud. I died. I pouched. It was amazing.
- 21:15Doug: Yes. Okay. Dude. Alright. Wait.
- 21:19First Elite heat t shirt. I pouched for Slop Tarts.
- 21:25Tim: No. I'm very on board with that. Alright. Very on board with that. Yeah.
- 21:29Doug: We'll get on that. Yep.
- 21:32Tim: I thought the Statlander promo that followed was confusing. I don't I don't get it.
- 21:40Doug: Yeah. I I think they're trying to continue to have her be kind of an enigma, but
- 21:46Tim: Yeah. Maybe. I don't I
- 21:48Doug: think this is just me talking from the hip. I think she needs to lose the greatest wrestler in the galaxy gimmick and just get closer to closer to a Brisco type persona. Just be more herself because I feel like it's like it's something's there, but there's a this weird veneer that's getting in between her and and us. And I that promo wasn't quite it for me.
- 22:18Tim: Yeah. I I agree. I mean, I think her in ring work is tremendous.
- 22:23Doug: Oh, yeah.
- 22:25Tim: I think her promo work still needs work as I overuse that word. But, I mean, I just I think that, I I if you talk about from a purely character standpoint, it might the alien thing when she was booping people's noses might have been the most entertaining version of the character, but it's also one that I was like, I don't know how seriously I take you.
- 22:48Doug: Right. And how far can you take that? Like,
- 22:51Tim: okay. We've got a shelf life. And it did. We're done.
- 22:54Doug: Yep.
- 22:54Tim: Yeah. Since then, I feel like they've really struggled with her. And and doing the big show, today, she's a face. Tomorrow, she's a heel. Now, she's a face.
- 23:02Now, she's a heel. That what that didn't help anything. No. No. It didn't help.
- 23:06Anything at all.
- 23:07Doug: The thing between her and Willow Mhmm. Just ending was
- 23:10Tim: Yeah. Super weird. Yeah. So that didn't help her at all. And I and I think I think they gotta do some character work there and figure out exactly who she is because that was weird and confusing.
- 23:20And I'm sure it's teasing something. I just I don't know what.
- 23:25Doug: Yeah. I don't even
- 23:26Tim: know if you're gonna put that in a show, it should have a point.
- 23:31Doug: Mhmm.
- 23:32Tim: You only do three hours a week. I mean
- 23:34Doug: Right. And that point isn't gonna be made until at least next week.
- 23:40Tim: So Yeah. Mean, maybe they'll do something on collision, but I doubt it.
- 23:44Doug: Yeah. I doubt it. But I'm I'm willing to give it to next week and we'll see. But
- 23:48Tim: Mhmm.
- 23:49Doug: You know, we'll just have to see.
- 23:50Tim: Yep. I agree. Okay. So this is I know where your Internet or got weird or Prime
- 23:56Doug: got weird. Was fine. Amazon Prime can suck it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:01Tim: I get a text going, it says it's over. And I was like, nope.
- 24:05Doug: Yeah. In the middle of the derby match, it just says, this event has ended and stop broadcasting. I'm watching HBO Max through Prime. I I get on. I I'm with their service people, and this guy, Zay, like, that's a real name, says to me via text, yeah.
- 24:24The event's over. I go, no. It's not. My friend is Tim is watching it right now. We go back and forth, and this was his answer.
- 24:32Then maybe you should watch it with your friend.
- 24:38Tim: Okay. That's not very helpful, is it?
- 24:42Doug: No. No. No. No.
- 24:43Tim: Did you get, like, a feedback survey where you could
- 24:46Doug: No. I ended the I ended the chat in anger, and I angrily touched my phone hard.
- 24:51Tim: Yeah. I don't I don't blame you. I would have done the same thing.
- 24:53Doug: That's another T shirt idea. I angrily touched my phone hard.
- 24:58Tim: Maybe a little wordy, but we'll work on it.
- 25:01Doug: Touch my phone hard, question mark. There
- 25:05Tim: you go. So not surprisingly, Kevin Knight and Darby were really good. Really, really good.
- 25:12Doug: Yeah.
- 25:13Tim: That that should have been the main event in my opinion.
- 25:16Doug: Kevin I did see Kevin Knight jump from the mat to do a Huracanorana on Darby who was sitting on the top rope, and he didn't touch anything but Darby, I was so impressed. I was like, holy
- 25:30Tim: saw this because you were dealing with the issues. Kevin Knight hit the best coast to coast I've ever seen. I did miss that. He you you know how, like, you'll see people do it? Like, I always think of Shane at at WrestleMania seventeen.
- 25:47Right? Like, he hit it, but for a minute there, were like, he's not gonna get there. He's not gonna make it. Right? And I think they needed to put that trash can on Vince to make sure that he had because without it, he wouldn't have come close to Vince.
- 26:00Right?
- 26:01Doug: Needed contact of something.
- 26:02Tim: Exactly. Exactly. Kevin Knight launched from that turnbuckle, and I am convinced that he could have landed in the third row if he wanted to. He it's the first time I've seen a coast to coast where I went, he might have overshot it. He his legs stayed, like, up, and then he kicks him out.
- 26:28And I was like, it it was the best one I've ever seen. I don't know how to describe it other than that. I've seen a bunch of them. It was the best one I've ever seen. If it's worth finding it, I'm sure the GIF is gonna be all over the place.
- 26:41Doug: I I told you after full gear that I thought Kevin Knight was super impressive. Super impressive, and he needs he needs a little bit of a push. And, man, a win over Darby
- 26:52Tim: Mhmm.
- 26:53Doug: Way to go, man.
- 26:53Tim: That's awesome. Feels like the push is coming. Right?
- 26:56Doug: That's great. Love
- 26:57Tim: it. Another thing that I'm like, I think maybe we called that one, and I'm I'm all for it. I'm all for it. He was that was tremendous. I was a little surprised he won just because it's Darby.
- 27:09Mhmm. But I'm not mad about it.
- 27:12Doug: Right. And it sets up those interesting points because you get three for winning, none for losing. There's I can't remember the breakout, but if it's, like, a count out or something, there's a way to get, like, less than three.
- 27:23Tim: You can do a draw.
- 27:24Doug: So if
- 27:25Tim: it's a time limit draw, you get every each gets one point.
- 27:28Doug: Right. So that that's gonna be an interesting way to see how if Darby comes back and how far he can he can move forward.
- 27:37Tim: But Yeah.
- 27:37Doug: Yeah. Hats off to Kevin Knight. That was amazing. That guy's great.
- 27:40Tim: There will be a time limit draw. It's always just a question of who. Yep. Might be Mox and Claudio. I don't know.
- 27:47We'll see.
- 27:48Doug: That's a really interesting
- 27:50Tim: It it might be.
- 27:51Doug: Might be.
- 27:52Tim: I kinda thought Okada and Fletcher were gonna do it, but I'm not mad about it. I'm not mad about it. After that, we got the Eddie promo that we referenced earlier. I who's Eddie? Who's Eddie being Eddie?
- 28:05I'm never gonna complain about that. It's really all I have to say. I'm not gonna complain about it.
- 28:11Doug: Yeah. Unfortunately, prime screwed me and I missed it. So
- 28:14Tim: Oh, right. Right. So it's just it's a quick it was pretaped. I don't think it was live. It was very quick, and it was just him going, I don't wanna talk about Hook right now, but, okay, Shabbatta, you were, you know, kinda got in my business, so let's do it on collision.
- 28:30And that was
- 28:31Doug: I'm in.
- 28:32Tim: Does it.
- 28:33Doug: Anytime Eddie's on the mic or in the ring, I'm in. I'm in.
- 28:36Tim: Like I said, classic Eddie. I believe it when he talks. I'm good.
- 28:41Doug: That guy's great. Love it. Love it.
- 28:43Tim: So then we got the main event, Orange Cassidy and Claudio. Weird moment in this one. I don't think you saw it. I don't know if you had it back yet.
- 28:54Doug: Okay.
- 28:55Tim: Orange Cassidy threw a thrust kick and, like, hits Claudio in the chest, which is fine, the height discrepancy and everything. Right? And then he Orange Cassidy, like, bends down, and he's got, like, a hand on the mat, and it's like he's selling that he's hurt or maybe gassed. And I was like, I don't think anything before that would have necessitated it. At least it didn't jump out at me.
- 29:21Right. I'm pretty sure they were calling spots right there. But, like, I think the the the the shoot of it, if you will, is that that's what they were doing. But it just it looked odd, and it felt a little bit to me like commentary didn't know what to do with it. Right.
- 29:36It just looked a little weird. Okay. Other than that, it was pretty much exactly what I would have expected. I'll tell you a quick story that'll illustrate that. It was Okay.
- 29:50The all out at the United Center in Chicago, so it might have been '21.
- 29:56Doug: Okay.
- 29:58Tim: '21 or '22. It was, you know, the one that happened literally the day after they fired Punk.
- 30:04Doug: Oh, okay.
- 30:05Tim: Which is why it was in the United Center because they thought they were gonna sell it out because they hit him on the card and then anyway. So I'm sitting there and there's a woman behind me and when Claudio comes out, she goes, oh, great. Here we go. He's gonna do like a million European uppercuts and he's gonna do the big swing and that's it. That's all he does.
- 30:24And we're like kinda laughing like, oh, And ever since that day, when I watch him wrestle, I'm like, that's all he does. Yep. He has added, like, maybe two moves. And I'm not gonna say that picking a dude up, a fully grown man, by the waist of his pants is not impressive. It is.
- 30:44Doug: Just suitcase him. Yeah.
- 30:46Tim: Yeah. But I was like, I'd kinda like to see you do something different. And I feel like, you know, the thing the narrative around Claudio forever has been why has this dude not broken out? He's got the look. He's got the athleticism.
- 31:01Why is this dude you know, like, especially when he was in WWE, he feels like a guy that Vince would have just been all about. And Right. I kinda think that's part of it. I kinda think he needs to develop the the move set a little more.
- 31:15Doug: I think he needs to develop the move set and a bit of a personality because right now, he is just he's just a thug, and he's a big one, and he's a strong one, and he's impressive looking, but he's not as he's not even as entertaining as Jake Hagar and was.
- 31:32Tim: And it
- 31:33Doug: was Jake Hagar. Right?
- 31:34Tim: Hagar. But yeah.
- 31:35Doug: Hagar? Hagar?
- 31:36Tim: Oh, yeah. It doesn't matter. He sucks. I don't I don't care for him at of
- 31:40Doug: his, but he was at at least he was somewhat entertaining. Even if it was buffoonish, he was
- 31:45Tim: a little buffoon The stuff with the hat was pretty good. I'll give you that. That was pretty good.
- 31:49Doug: That, I didn't enjoy. But at
- 31:51Tim: least That's interesting.
- 31:52Doug: He was a little more memorable in that regard. But, like, with Claudio, it's like, oh, okay. You're right. He's gonna come in. He's gonna just uppercut the daylights out of you.
- 32:01He's gonna spin you around. Although, at full gear, when he spun two people around at once with orange hanging on his neck, that was kinda cool.
- 32:09Tim: Yeah. And I don't know if you saw it. I don't know if you had the the show back yet or not. He hit him he hit Orange into the the boards twice. Right?
- 32:17Like, swung Right. One way and, you know, where it where they have that kinda cut out for the timekeeper's table. You know, he hit him into the fence there, and then he came around and hit him the other way into the LED board. And I'm like, I mean, that there's no way that didn't suck for Orange Cassidy. Right?
- 32:35Exactly. There's no way. It's like, Orange, what are doing? What's that?
- 32:39Doug: I'm like, Orange, what are you doing? Are you stealing Darby's moves? Come on, buddy.
- 32:43Tim: Yeah. I I mean, Orange Cassidy probably does not get the credit he deserves for the way that he bumps and the stuff he puts himself through. Yeah. But, you know, I and I'm not I know this sounds like I'm trying to take a dump on Claudio. I'm really not.
- 32:58I just feel like No. That's the thing that has probably kept him from being, you know, a massive, massive star. And and it it it it's that's the sort of thing that makes me go, Kevin Knight and Darby or Okada and Fletcher should have been the main event.
- 33:14Doug: Oh, yes. 100%.
- 33:16Tim: Especially because you and I have been to these tapings. They have a really hard time getting people to stay for collision.
- 33:24Doug: Mhmm.
- 33:24Tim: Because you did the overrun, so now it's nine, whatever, fifteen, 09:30 here central, if you're in the central time zone. A lot of us gotta I mean, not tonight, but, you know, because tomorrow's Thanksgiving, but usually a lot of us gotta work. I was like, dude, I'm not staying Mhmm. For collision. Or maybe I'll stay for the first match and then I'm out, you know.
- 33:46And and so I think they gotta position that better to carry that momentum to get people to stay for collision.
- 33:53Doug: And I I I think because of the way the the show ended, they Mhmm. You know, that was their way of doing that with with the, you know, with the run ins and the run ins. But I Yeah. I I have a few issues with the run ins. But
- 34:10Tim: So it just happened, and I already forgot about it. So what's that now?
- 34:13Doug: When Letcher and Takeshita came running in, I wasn't sure who they were gonna beat up. Mhmm. And then they side with the death writers, question mark.
- 34:25Tim: Well, in in the way that Moxley was just like, yeah. And Fletcher was kinda like, yeah. I'm like, well, you guys aren't friends.
- 34:32Doug: Right. Then Should Dorado be a threat
- 34:36Tim: since you're in the tournament too? Like, I don't Yeah.
- 34:38Doug: Exactly. Shouldn't you, like, you know, kick him in the shins or something? Yeah. But and then Dorado did the the dive off the turnbuckle. This is where I have a problem with how they shoot and film dynamite because Shafir is just standing there watching him.
- 34:58Tim: Mhmm.
- 34:59Doug: She's not incapacitated. She's just looking.
- 35:02Tim: Mhmm.
- 35:03Doug: And I'm like, come on. Come on. Either Shafir, do something different or don't show her just watching. That took me out of it immediately. You
- 35:16Tim: know, in the last episode when I said whenever the Death Rider's downfall happens, we should do a special that's just me picking it apart and everything? That's going to be part of it.
- 35:26Doug: Yeah. And that that's one of the things that I remember. Like, it it and the other thing that got me thinking about this this run-in is I watch a lot of old school wrestling from way back in the day. Right? I watch a lot of NWA when it was Georgia championship wrestling or whatever it was.
- 35:43Mhmm. And you had a bunch of you had a similar run ins. You had these post match attacks. They seemed more real back then. These seemed a little these seemed so much more staged and planned.
- 35:57Mhmm. And, like, when Fletcher and Mox were like, yeah, that seemed weird to me. When Shafir is watching this, that seemed weird. And to just have them go punch for a little bit, clear the ring, and then you get to have orange Cassidy get his his spotlight is fine, but it I don't think it had the emotional resonance they were hoping for. At least it didn't with me.
- 36:27I was like, oh, okay. This is alright. We got a schmaz at the end. Okay. Cool.
- 36:31Tim: Like I said, as we are speaking, it is 10:06PM central. The show ended, let's say, thirty minutes ago.
- 36:40Doug: Mhmm.
- 36:40Tim: A little bit more than that. I forgot it happened. Yeah. I forgot that they did it until you brought it up. I didn't write anything down about it.
- 36:48It didn't resonate with me at all. Right. So I'm with you on that. I I don't I don't really understand the I don't understand the rationale behind it. And I get it that it was sort of like, let's get all the the continental classic people involved.
- 37:07But Mhmm. Like, I even one thing that did jump out at me that, again, I forgot about until you brought it back up is, like, when the faces came in to make the save, I thought, like, again, not a lot of urgency it felt like to me. Maybe it was just the angle they were shooting it from. I don't know. But, yeah, like, I if I'm Mascara Dorado, I'm a be honest with you.
- 37:29I don't think I'm getting involved in that. No. Like, would lost my match. I gotta get points. Why am I gonna risk injury?
- 37:36You know, if you do this all in kayfabe. Right? Why am I gonna risk injury
- 37:40Doug: Mhmm.
- 37:40Tim: For something that I this this doesn't have anything to do with me.
- 37:43Doug: Right. You haven't been palling around with any of the other faces there, so why would you do that? And then to have Okada stand on the on the ramp and just stare
- 37:53Tim: Mhmm.
- 37:54Doug: And have that weird face at the end. I know they're teasing something, and then you show Kyle and Takeshita, like, they're on the same page.
- 38:02Tim: Mhmm.
- 38:03Doug: And Okada's not on the same page.
- 38:05Tim: Mhmm.
- 38:06Doug: Clearly.
- 38:07Tim: Yeah.
- 38:07Doug: But I think we already knew that, so that would I don't know. It was just a weird ending.
- 38:13Tim: You know, I I I'm probably not gonna use this term a ton, but I think that, you know, we're gonna see people online saying it was overbooked. I would agree with you on that.
- 38:25Doug: Mhmm.
- 38:25Tim: I think I think they overbooked that. I think the match should have been the match and that was it. And, you know, if you wanted to have although this still only sort of makes sense. If you wanted to have the Death Riders and the conglomeration mix it up, I guess. Right.
- 38:43Because Moxley and and Kyle O'Reilly have been going at it. Mhmm. But I kinda feel like the con the conglomeration had more beef with the Don Callis family. Maybe that's what they were trying to do. Right.
- 38:55But I I don't know.
- 38:56Doug: Because It didn't
- 38:57Tim: make a lot of sense.
- 38:58Doug: Because, god, what's his name from Paragon? Not Kyle O'Reilly.
- 39:02Tim: Oh, Roderick Strong.
- 39:03Doug: Strong came out. Mhmm. And that's who Fletcher I think it was Fletcher and Takeshita. That's who they focused on first.
- 39:11Tim: I think so too.
- 39:11Doug: So maybe that's it, but there wasn't any comment on the commentary. So it was it was a schmaz that really schmazzed out, and it didn't Yeah. You know? What whatever. I would have rather here's what I find interesting.
- 39:23You've got Claudio that won. You got Mox that won. Have a feeling Pac Pac is gonna Pac Pac? Yeah. Pac is gonna win.
- 39:29Tim: I know. I've heard both.
- 39:30Doug: I think Pac's gonna win his. So now you have three death riders potentially having three points going to the next phase.
- 39:39Tim: Mhmm.
- 39:40Doug: Is that where we're gonna start seeing that splinter happen even more? I'm I'm really interested in the most interested I am right now is Mox Claudia.
- 39:49Tim: Yeah. I I I think that's very interesting. I think the Don Callis stuff is basically the same thing. Right? It's basically the same story, but I'm still interested in it.
- 39:58And do think that they did a good job of making sure that, you know, tag partners are gonna face each other. Yeah. Like, Speedball and Kevin Knight are gonna face off because they're in the same league. Mhmm. There's another one too.
- 40:15And I don't remember what it is now, but there's another one. Yeah. So I I mean, I it's very interesting. It's a very interesting tournament. Mhmm.
- 40:26I'm in. Yeah. But, you know, I don't think we need to do a bunch of these scrums at the end. I don't
- 40:33Doug: No. And when when I said I'm I'm really interest I'm this is the most interest I have in the Death Riders storyline is what happens between Mox and Claudio. That's that's what I was inferring or implying.
- 40:45Tim: Oh, yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. I I got that.
- 40:47I this is the most interested I've been in Death Riders in a long time.
- 40:53Doug: Yeah. Long time. I will I will say though, I I do think going back to Moxley, I think he looked really good in that match and looked better than he has in a while, and that dive helped a lot. That that dive rider that he did or Never. Dive, whatever we're calling it.
- 41:09I like dive rider. I think dive
- 41:10Tim: rider too.
- 41:12Doug: John Moxley, dive rider. New T shirt idea? Dive Rider?
- 41:17Tim: I I don't know, but I definitely am, like, hearing the Knight Rider theme song in my head now. So that's fun. I've that's that's how you avoid copyright right there.
- 41:30Doug: Jon Moxley is the dive writer.
- 41:36Tim: Yeah. Clearly, we should stop on this
- 41:38Doug: one. I forgot what I called it.
- 41:40Tim: Yep.
- 41:41Doug: Overall, what do you what do you think? Pouch or slouch for this show?
- 41:47Tim: I would I would say pouch overall. I think that Darby and, Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher and Okada were that damn good. Mhmm. I think the rest of it, would have been fine with. Like, the rest of it's fine.
- 42:05You know what I mean? To above average. If that was all the show had been, I kinda would have been a little bit like, boy, wait a fumble coming out of full year. But those matches were so good, and I do think that there's enough breadcrumbs kinda being thrown out there. Yeah.
- 42:26I I yeah. I thought it was solid. I thought it was a solid episode. There's enough in it that made me go, yeah.
- 42:32Doug: Let's Yeah. Plus, we didn't even mention Tony Storm talking about how it's gonna be a death match Yeah. Next next week, not too far from us.
- 42:43Tim: Yeah. Just saying.
- 42:45Doug: Just saying.
- 42:47Tim: I would have preferred that be today because
- 42:49Doug: Well, yeah. Me too. Not to work. But Me too.
- 42:53Tim: Again, unless someone would like to come along and give us money. Blue Chew, we're looking at you. Or really anybody. I don't even care at this point.
- 43:01Doug: Anyone? Yeah. What was my first T shirt idea they could sponsor? Pouch? What was it?
- 43:09Tim: I don't know.
- 43:10Doug: Listen back.
- 43:11Tim: Yeah.
- 43:12Doug: Because I like that. I I had I think I had three solid T shirt ideas or at least two out of
- 43:16Tim: the whole didn't. I'm just saying I didn't remember them.
- 43:20Doug: No. I didn't either. It was kinda like a a a run-in at the end of dynamite. Mhmm.
- 43:24Tim: Yeah. Yeah. Alright. Your thoughts on the show, at least everything we
- 43:29Doug: can I think what it gets a slouch from Amazon Prime HBO Max on Amazon Prime because I am gonna be canceling that version and just keeping my HBO Max separate because
- 43:41Tim: Yeah? It works fine for me. Yeah.
- 43:43Doug: Zayn, your big help. Yeah. Idiot. But the but the action I did see, pouch all the way. Loved it.
- 43:50Tim: Yeah. Yeah. I thought I thought it was good. And again, I I think it'll be interesting to see how they build World's End coming out of this. So
- 43:59Doug: Yep. Alright.
- 44:01Tim: Well, that is it for this week. Yep. Like, subscribe, follow, all that good stuff. Somebody gave us a five star rating already on Spotify, is which pretty cool.
- 44:10Doug: Nice. Thanks for that.
- 44:11Tim: Yeah. Let's keep that going.
- 44:13Doug: Yeah. Those five star reviews really, really, really do help. And if you really do. If you do give us a five star review, we will read it next time on the next episode, and you could officially become I think we should call our listeners Slop Tarts.
- 44:32Tim: Alright. As long as Tony Storm doesn't sue. Yeah. Alright.
- 44:36Doug: Alright. It's
- 44:37Tim: fine. We'll we'll we'll We're not gonna get enough five stars that she's gonna find it now and we'll forget by next week, so it's fine.
- 44:44Doug: That is 100% accurate.
- 44:46Tim: I know. But those subscribe, follow, leave those reviews. It all helps. You can find us on pretty much every social media at elite heat pod. I've been enjoying going back and forth back and forth with people on TikTok.
- 44:59There's a guy who solely felt that hangman sucks and that was really all he said. And his, profile picture was Cornette, and I was just like, that's the perfect profile picture for that comment. Well done.
- 45:11Doug: Yeah. That makes sense.
- 45:11Tim: Way to be on brand there, bud. Yeah. But Plus,
- 45:14Doug: mean you have if you know anybody that likes wrestling and likes this type of thing, tell them about us.
- 45:19Tim: Yeah. Absolutely. And okay. We went forty five minutes. We'll we'll we'll give this cut down.
- 45:24We'll get it shorter. We're gonna try to stick around that thirty minute mark. But
- 45:27Doug: we're getting there.
- 45:29Tim: Yeah. Alright. So overall, solid show, and we will see you next week.
- 45:33Doug: Yep. See you, Slop Tarts.
