- 0:00Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and welcome to another episode
- 0:04of the United Church of Tonga Youth Devotion.
- 0:08Our Bible reading for today is taken from the book of Deuteronomy chapter 5 verse 33.
- 0:16Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you so that you
- 0:22may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you possess.
- 0:28Our theme, walk in obedience.
- 0:32It is very easy for us to recite obedience throughout the Bible and we can speak
- 0:38about being obedient like it's a walk in the park.
- 0:41But the reality is we must walk the talk and actions speak louder than words.
- 0:49Obedience is knowing what is right and striving to do what is right by God.
- 0:55It's funny how if we are on a health journey, we follow a diet plan closely
- 1:02and are so obedient to stick to it.
- 1:05When we cheat, we feel so guilty. But why can't we apply the same commitment
- 1:11to walking in obedience to God's laws and plans?
- 1:16We can stick to working church rules, yet we can't obey God's laws.
- 1:21Our scripture reminds us today that to prosper and to prolong our lives in this
- 1:28life, we must walk in obedience to all that our Lord has commanded. it.
- 1:33We desire quick fixes to the problems in our lives.
- 1:37We look for the silver bullet or a magic wand that we can waive our sins and they will be gone.
- 1:44As leaders in the church and our families, we must search for direction and
- 1:50the starting point is God's revelation in the scriptures, which involves walking in obedience.
- 1:57Diligent obedience begins with fear of the Lord, according to Proverbs 2, 5.
- 2:04We must fear the Lord to enable walking in obedience.
- 2:09Without fear, we turn a blind eye to sin and use scripture to condone the wrongdoing of mankind.
- 2:17The challenge for us today is to keep focused on the Lord's commandment.
- 2:22Let it be the lamp unto thy feet and the light unto thy path so that we walk
- 2:29in obedience and reap the rewards of being the faithful servant.
- 2:34The reward for walking in obedience is we live, prosper, and prolong our days in the land.
- 2:42Let us pray. Lord, help us meditate
- 2:46on your scriptures daily so that your commandments inform our actions.
- 2:52We pray for your guidance and strength so that we will keep on and walk in obedience.
