- 0:08Welcome, beautiful soul. I'm so glad you're here today.
- 0:13Take a breath with me. Let your shoulders drop.
- 0:18This is a safe space for truth, for healing, for coming home to
- 0:24yourself. Today I want to talk about
- 0:27something that quietly causes so much pain in our lives,
- 0:34something most of us don't even realize is the source of our
- 0:40suffering. Expectations.
- 0:44Not the loud kind, the silent ones, the unspoken ones.
- 0:51The ones we carry in our hearts and place on others without even
- 0:58noticing. And then one day, something
- 1:02happens. Someone disappoints us.
- 1:07Someone behaves in a way we didn't expect.
- 1:11Someone disappears. Someone treats us unfairly.
- 1:17Someone doesn't show up the way we hoped they would, and
- 1:23suddenly we are hurt deeply. Maybe you know this feeling,
- 1:32that tightness in your chest when you think of that person,
- 1:38That wave of anger, sadness or helplessness that comes back
- 1:45every time the story replays in your mind.
- 1:50That question that whispers inside.
- 1:54Why are they like this? Why couldn't they just be
- 1:59different? I know this place very well.
- 2:07There were moments in my life where I felt wounded again and
- 2:13again, not because the situation kept happening, but because I
- 2:20kept reliving it. Every thought brought the pain
- 2:25back, every memory triggered the same emotions.
- 2:31And I told myself, let them, just let them.
- 2:37But my body didn't listen. My heart didn't feel peace.
- 2:45And maybe that's where you are too.
- 2:50What changed everything for me was a simple but very
- 2:56uncomfortable realization. Every time I felt hurt, I was
- 3:02still expecting the other person to be different, to act
- 3:08differently, to speak differently, to care
- 3:12differently, to be someone they simply were not.
- 3:19And as long as I held on to that expectation, I was reopening the
- 3:26wound myself. This was hard to accept because
- 3:33it meant something very important.
- 3:37I was not a victim of their behaviour anymore.
- 3:43I was the one keeping the pain alive.
- 3:47Not consciously, not intentionally, but lovingly
- 3:53through hope. Hope that they would change.
- 3:59Hope that they would finally understand.
- 4:03Hope that one day they would show up as the version I needed.
- 4:10But hope, when attached to expectations, can become
- 4:16suffering. My coach helped me see this with
- 4:22so much clarity and compassion, he said something that landed
- 4:28deeply in me. As long as you expect them to be
- 4:34different, you will suffer again and again.
- 4:39Not because they change, but because they don't.
- 4:46And then you ask a question I want to ask you now.
- 4:51Does this expectation help you? Does it bring you peace?
- 4:58Does it protect your heart? Does it heal you?
- 5:04Or does it hurt you every single time?
- 5:11When I answered honestly, I knew the truth.
- 5:15So I learned to gently interrupt the story whenever the pain came
- 5:22back. I told myself, you are expecting
- 5:27them to be different. Is this helping you?
- 5:31No. Do you want to keep hurting?
- 5:35No. And then something radical
- 5:39happened. I stopped wanting them to
- 5:43change. Not because what they did was
- 5:47OK, not because it didn't matter, but because my piece
- 5:55mattered more. Acceptance doesn't mean
- 6:01approval. Acceptance means clarity.
- 6:06It means saying this is who they are right now, this is how they
- 6:13act, this is what they are capable of.
- 6:18And when I stopped fighting reality, reality stopped hurting
- 6:25me. In one very personal situation,
- 6:29I was able to feel gratitude instead of pain.
- 6:34Gratitude that someone showed me early who they truly were.
- 6:41Gratitude that I didn't invest more of my heart.
- 6:47Gratitude for the protection hidden inside the
- 6:51disappointment. And this shift from expectations
- 6:58to acceptance didn't change them.
- 7:02It changed me. When I look back at my life, I
- 7:08see how deeply expectations have shaped suffering across
- 7:14generations. Parents suffering because their
- 7:19children weren't the way they imagined.
- 7:23Children suffering because they were never seen for who they
- 7:28truly were. I see it with my own parents.
- 7:35I see it with my own children, and I see it now with so much
- 7:42more tenderness. When I expected my sons to be
- 7:46different, I couldn't see their beautiful qualities.
- 7:52I focused on what was missing instead of what was present, and
- 7:58that expectation created distance, pain, and frustration.
- 8:05But when I let go of the need to change them, when I accepted
- 8:12them as they are, as long as there was respect and safety,
- 8:18peace returned. Not because they changed, but
- 8:24because I did. So let me say this clearly, from
- 8:30my heart to yours. The person who hurts you is not
- 8:35the one creating your suffering. The story you tell yourself
- 8:41about who they should be, that's where the pain lives.
- 8:47And the most empowering truth of all, you can change the story.
- 8:54You can change the meaning. You can choose acceptance over
- 9:00expectation. You can release the fantasy and
- 9:05embrace reality. And when you do, something
- 9:11incredible happens. The pain loses its grip, the
- 9:17trigger softens. The memory no longer controls
- 9:23you. You don't become cold.
- 9:27You become free. And with that freedom comes
- 9:32power. Because you realize you are the
- 9:36master of your inner world. You can choose peace again and
- 9:43again by yourself. If you are suffering right now
- 9:50because of someone in your life, I invite you to gently ask
- 9:56yourself, what am I still expecting?
- 10:01Who do I want them to be? And what happens if I allow them
- 10:08to be exactly as they are? Not forever, not with no no
- 10:16boundaries, but right now for your peace.
- 10:22Acceptance doesn't weaken you, it heals you.
- 10:27And healing changes everything. Thank you for being here.
- 10:35Thank you for listening with an open heart.
- 10:38If this episode touched something in you, let it sink in
- 10:44slowly. You don't have to change
- 10:47everything today. Just notice your expectations
- 10:53and choose yourself. And if you feel that there is a
- 10:59story you keep replaying A wound that still hurts and you don't
- 11:06want to carry it alone anymore, I want you to know something.
- 11:13Ioffer free one-on-one coaching sessions.
- 11:17A safe space just for you, where you can speak freely without
- 11:24being charged, without having to explain yourself.
- 11:29Together we gently look at your story, your expectations, and
- 11:36what keeps you stuck, and we find a way toward more peace,
- 11:43clarity, and inner freedom. There is no pressure, no
- 11:48obligation, just an open heart meeting another open heart.
