- 0:03Good morning, and welcome to Palm Sunday, April 13th, 2025.
- 0:12Here at Have Faith Let It Begin, we are often asked, why is Palm Sunday celebrated?
- 0:19Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem,
- 0:25a week before his crucifixion.
- 0:27It marks the beginning of the Holy Week. A period of reflection and preparation for Easter.
- 0:34The event is a joyous and reception.
- 0:39It's an event where Jesus receives from the crowds, waving palm branches,
- 0:46and they recognizing him as their king.
- 0:50The triumphant entry is detailed in the gospel.
- 0:55It says how Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem, fulfilling a prophecy in Zechariah 9, verse 9.
- 1:03The donkey symbolizes humility and peace, contrasting with the image of a victorious king on a war horse.
- 1:12Hosanna and palm branches. The crowds hailed Jesus with shouts of Hosanna,
- 1:19Hosanna, a Hebrew word meaning save now or save us, we pray.
- 1:28They also waved palm branches, a symbol of victory and triumph.
- 1:34The triumph is in the ancient near the east.
- 1:38What is Holy Week in reflection? Palm Sunday initiates Holy Week,
- 1:43the week leading up to Easter.
- 1:46During this week, Christians remember the final events of Jesus' life,
- 1:49including his suffering, death, and eventually his resurrection.
- 1:53And the significance of the palm, the palm branch is a significant symbol of
- 1:59peace, triumph, and eternal life.
- 2:03In many churches, palms are blessed and distributed to worshipers,
- 2:08often taken home as a reminder of this day's events.
- 2:13Modern celebrations will say that Palm Sunday services often include the blessing
- 2:17of palms, A reading of the Passion, the account of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion,
- 2:24and a procession symbolizing the triumph entry into Jerusalem.
- 2:31So today, Half Faith Let It Begin would like to officially say Happy Palm Sunday.
