- 0:11Hello, I am Jared Faircloth and I'm Johannes and welcome to, to
- 0:15introduce their guests are Muppet fan podcast for
- 0:18topics.com back. The season 2 in this show, Joe,
- 0:22and I were taking it in turns to surprise each other.
- 0:24With each week, two guests, this week.
- 0:26It is my turn. Joe, you have no idea who I
- 0:28guessed is today, do You, we're back baby.
- 0:32And no, I still have no idea. No, no clue and I had forgotten
- 0:37how terrifying it is. Yeah, no, no, it's not easy.
- 0:40Yeah, it's not-it's not fun. Not fun.
- 0:41You guys well last season, you are only got a couple correct.
- 0:44I think was like 12 yet. Well, you obviously have a
- 0:48chance to guess as per usual, so Joe, take it away.
- 0:53All right, here we go. Is it, Muppets Sesame or Henson?
- 1:0000:03, okay, is this person? All right, let's I don't want
- 1:06to. I want to go to obvious here.
- 1:07So I'll ask did this person work in some capacity on Muppet
- 1:12Treasure Island. I don't believe so.
- 1:17No, not that, I cannot not that I can say on their mother wiki
- 1:21page great. Okay.
- 1:23That didn't help me in the slightest know, is this person
- 1:30Known for having some sort of connection to a character
- 1:37performed by Jim Henson originally performed by Jim
- 1:39Henson. No cool.
- 1:42I thought I would make this interesting by asking questions
- 1:45at wouldn't reveal it. Yeah, so quickly and, and this
- 1:48was a bad strategy. Yeah.
- 1:51All right. Well, I'll then I'll just ask is
- 1:52this person a performer? Yes, it's here.
- 1:55Okay, that helps. All right.
- 2:01I am gonna go on a limb and just make a, make a wild guess.
- 2:05Yep. A performer, who has worked with
- 2:08Muppets and Henson. Who probably did not work on
- 2:12Muppet Treasure Island, is it Alice didn't Ian?
- 2:16Joe, my guest today is a puppeteer who has worked on a
- 2:19wide range of projects of last 25 years all the way from Sesame
- 2:23Street to Team America World. Please she's been a grandma
- 2:26Mouse on Big Blue House. A snake in Kermit Swamp Years,
- 2:29you played puppet broader in community.
- 2:31She's been a mummy and a red herring in Muppet, snorted
- 2:33mansion, and she played the lead gelfling, and Dark Crystal age
- 2:36of resistance. She's also worked on a billion
- 2:39other things. I'm sure we'll talk about, Joe,
- 2:41you've started off strong. Would you please welcome to to
- 2:44introduce our guest star? Alice did Dean Alice.
- 2:48Hey, hello, how are you? I'm well, thank you.
- 2:51How are you? I'm very well, thank you for
- 2:53being here. It's my pleasure.
- 2:56Thank you for asking. Hi Alice.
- 2:59I don't know if we've ever met. Have we ever met them?
- 3:04We made met in passing once or twice but you being out in LA
- 3:08and me being here in New York, I feel like maybe that never
- 3:11happens your. Maybe it's possible that, that
- 3:13hasn't happened. I mean, with, with lockdown, I
- 3:16feel like I haven't seen anyone ever so that's I know, right?
- 3:20Well that's yeah, that's the other thing is my memory is
- 3:22completely shot. Yeah, for you know, everything
- 3:24I've done before like six months ago, right.
- 3:27So a lot of people I've met from Europe and I don't know if I've
- 3:30met them or not. So if right let's just say that
- 3:33we have met now and that's lovely.
- 3:36It's so lovely to meet you. It's such a treat.
- 3:41You are just like your one of those performers who you've done
- 3:44so many things. You've worked on so many.
- 3:46The amazing Muppet and Henson projects that I feel like, like,
- 3:51we should be best friends. Like, it's like just see your
- 3:53name in the credits and everything.
- 3:54Well, which is, by the way, how I make friends, as I just look
- 3:57for people's names names in the credits.
- 3:59Now, I'm like, I'm just gonna say, yeah.
- 4:02Me, you mean all the best friends with Steven Spielberg,
- 4:05right? Oh, Uncle Steve.
- 4:07Yeah. It's true though.
- 4:16Tell certain people like actors and stuff who you'd say their
- 4:19names in the credits and you go. Oh excellent.
- 4:21Okay. Good like I love that person.
- 4:23Like I'm so like someone like Judy Greer who's an actor you
- 4:26say her name in the credits got. Okay.
- 4:27We're in for a good time. Like your name's the same.
- 4:30Like you see Ellis name and you go excellent.
- 4:33Ok. Good yep.
- 4:34Good like that. Like that person.
- 4:35We're okay. Well that's that's very
- 4:38flattering to hear. I appreciate that.
- 4:40Thank you. I I do try to choose projects
- 4:45that I think will be good. When we can't do everything but
- 4:48I mean I try to do everything which is one of the reasons that
- 4:51my name pops up all over the place is because I love working
- 4:54so much and I try to do as many things as I possibly can
- 4:59possibly to the detriment of my sanity and my child but but I do
- 5:04just love it. So I just I do I do try to stay
- 5:07in the mix as much as I can. Fantastic.
- 5:12Well, I'm so grateful because that also gives us so much to
- 5:14talk about. I guess I want to start with one
- 5:18of your more recent roles, okay, because you were working on
- 5:23something Mansion, which we Jared, and I both loved very
- 5:25much. I'm so glad we have been great
- 5:27work. A lot to us, good.
- 5:30Yeah, one of my surprise favorite moments was the
- 5:36introduction of PeeWee, the red herring which I performed How
- 5:42wide what happens? What I have so many questions
- 5:46that are only half sentences. But like where did that come
- 5:48from? Well, I think that the character
- 5:56itself was just a, it's just a visual joke, it's a red herring,
- 5:59you know, and here we are in a mystery of sort of
- 6:03disappearance. And so it's, I mean, that's very
- 6:08much Kirk Thatcher sense of humor, I don't know for sure.
- 6:11But I imagine that that was Kirk joke and yeah.
- 6:14And so, he was just going to, it was, he's like, he's got a, he's
- 6:18got a red herring in his pocket but it's a real Herring and it
- 6:20talks and then, and then the dialogue was written in a French
- 6:22accent. So, oh you didn't, you didn't
- 6:25make up the French accent. No.
- 6:28And in fact, in the table, read someone else read it.
- 6:30I will because I wasn't at the table read and I don't think
- 6:32anyone knew who was going to do that.
- 6:33It was sort of going to filter down to whoever was available
- 6:36and and so You know, and a lot of times for little things like
- 6:43that, if someone else someone reads it in the table read and
- 6:46someone else wins of doing it than someone else, might wind
- 6:47up, looping it and it's all very loosey-goosey but but it just
- 6:51sort of wound up coming together that way and I'm really glad
- 6:55that you enjoyed it. I mean it's a funny gag but he
- 6:57has a fish in his pocket. That's, you know, I love that
- 7:02bit with the bottom of the card comes down and the fish signs it
- 7:06to be right. Well and I had to consume which
- 7:10prime I'm probably way off base, but the first time I saw it, I
- 7:14had to assume that that Peewee was a reference to Pee-wee's
- 7:18Playhouse, because I was also hearing the French accent of
- 7:22Terry the pterodactyl because he's French writer.
- 7:26He's got some sort of weird accent.
- 7:28Yeah. Yeah, we had was Terry spelled
- 7:30the French way, wasn't it? Yeah.
- 7:33Robles is spelled with a pee like pterodactyl.
- 7:36Yeah, that's right. That right.
- 7:38It has about the spelling, right.
- 7:41But but yeah it just like you know, another great puppet show
- 7:45that you know is not obviously not a Henson or Muppet project
- 7:47project but you guys share a lot of puppeteers and you know any
- 7:52hearing the name Peewee in a French accent.
- 7:54It just made me think like that's got to be but maybe not,
- 7:56maybe I'm making that up. Well, it really did you sort of
- 7:59sort of bubbled up from it's funny on stuff like that.
- 8:04I knew I was going to be doing that mummy character but the
- 8:06others like the the old lady at the dance and and the
- 8:10gravediggers dog. And Even P.
- 8:12We like, we don't really know a lot of times it's about
- 8:15availability and who's there on what days and when that shot
- 8:18wind up in the schedule? And so we stay very flexible
- 8:20about some of those little things.
- 8:22And it's just was really fun the way that they all got kind of
- 8:29handed out very spontaneously, but that's always happened.
- 8:31That always happened at, you know, back long time ago when I
- 8:36was working at Sesame Street. And so, unlike at the very last
- 8:39minute, you can get these characters that have to Voice
- 8:42and a personality. And you have to make it up on
- 8:43the spot and every now and then the director say, ya know, do
- 8:45something different and do something different - I'm
- 8:47different. So you're just figuring out, how
- 8:51locked the that broad English accent on mummy.
- 8:55Oh, just that, that voice is guaranteed to get Aloft.
- 8:59Just that accent. It's just it's a it's a silly
- 9:02voice. Yeah.
- 9:03And it's great. I don't know how it really
- 9:07sounds to all my English friends, you know, I spent a
- 9:09year there. Listening to, I mean, I just
- 9:12love hearing everyone's different accents there and I
- 9:16don't think I got very obnoxious thing.
- 9:19So wait, where are you from? Okay, what part of that area are
- 9:22you from? Because they're so specific and
- 9:25so different, and so fun to kind of play with.
- 9:29I mean, I know they have fun doing American accents to so,
- 9:32how much of the mummy and daddy stuff was was improvised because
- 9:35I felt very, very impromptu and I'm sure there was like a like
- 9:39in the script it said something about them entering and
- 9:42Commenting on the dump, 10, tons or whatever.
- 9:44But it felt very much like, oh, it's just you and who perform,
- 9:49Daddy? I got personal.
- 9:51Yeah, Bruce, yeah. Just like, saying whatever came
- 9:53to mind and hoping maybe to get, you know, the other puppeteers
- 9:57to break or something like that. There was, there was some of
- 10:00that like, like when they were making excuses for why they were
- 10:03late. That was there were a lot of
- 10:05different excuses for why they were late and and and you know
- 10:10the exit line of You know where they've just kind of bummed out
- 10:13that they've missed it. There were a lot of different
- 10:15exit lines for that too. And I think what they want of
- 10:17keeping was just was just disappointing and that was said
- 10:20until forever forgetting. But yeah, we try to do some
- 10:24different things like that. But again Kirk had set up this
- 10:27gag where they were true, they were just getting it wrong.
- 10:32Like he was very convinced that they had to just get it wrong
- 10:34and we keep saying, could we get it right at the said at some
- 10:37point is like no, you get it wrong every time but can we get
- 10:40it wrong in a different way? No, it's wrong in the same way
- 10:43every time. So you kept raining it in and
- 10:48there were yeah. They were, he loves to lots of
- 10:51takes of those so we did have fun with it.
- 10:54Good. Yeah, I have to imagine there
- 10:56was so much gold left on The Cutting Room floor.
- 10:59That's special. Oh yeah.
- 11:01Was there anything that stands out that you guys recorded that,
- 11:04that didn't make it into the final draft?
- 11:08Every single time that that candelabra came out and was
- 11:12floating Bill, gave it a voice and a personality was very needy
- 11:17was very codependent Candlestick and it was sort of in love with
- 11:20Dave goals and who isn't and it had this and this very high kind
- 11:27of eager to please really kind of Hawk bouquets and Mike you.
- 11:31All right, here we go. Let's go, let's go down the hole
- 11:34here. Dave, you know, Very silly.
- 11:38And so like Madison Stitches, the entire time.
- 11:40And of course, it's not part of the show that all life going on.
- 11:49That's a steric, nothing happens all the time all the time, but
- 11:52that one was a particular favorite because the way the
- 11:56schedule on that one worked out, we wound up shooting until the
- 12:00wee hours frequently. And so everyone was really on
- 12:04the hairy edge of various Huh. And that kind of stuff was
- 12:09happening. Was so fun.
- 12:10It's so funny the combination of of Bill and Dave one or the
- 12:16other or both of them being in almost, everything makes for a
- 12:20real treat for all the other performers because they're so
- 12:24they're just always so generous and so funny and then when
- 12:28they're together and playing off of each other it's just you just
- 12:31feel so lucky to be there watching the show and in you're
- 12:33right most of it doesn't wind up in the in the movie.
- 12:36It's just What they do between takes its magical, what you got.
- 12:41Nothing to be a fly on that wall.
- 12:43That would have been very special.
- 12:45You got to work obviously closely with Will Arnett as
- 12:48well. I think you must have worked
- 12:49very close with Will on that. Considering, you know, the fish
- 12:51is inside his pocket. Yeah, so you've got to be like
- 12:54right up against you for that. Yeah.
- 12:57The pumpkin hat was a long tube that came down from the, you
- 13:01know, from the inside of the pocket opening, it was just
- 13:04basically a long setne tube the came.
- 13:07So that the fish will go up through that.
- 13:08And yes, yeah. If you think about where my hand
- 13:11had to be starting out. It was.
- 13:13Yes, it's closed. So it was a tight-fitting.
- 13:14Yeah. But what was it like working
- 13:18with Will on it because I mean, he's comedy royalty at this
- 13:21point. Yeah.
- 13:22I mean, I'm a super fan of Arrested Development and some of
- 13:26this stuff that's real stuff. He's done.
- 13:27So it was it was it was pretty exciting.
- 13:30I mean he was very focused on his on his character and very
- 13:35focused on staying in Character, he had fun and he had, you know,
- 13:39he was very, he was enjoying being there, but boy he had a
- 13:44big part and it was always on and and the costumes were
- 13:47elaborate and the, and there was singing and there was all sorts
- 13:50of choreography and then he tried to try to hold it together
- 13:53with Bill and Dave, you know, doing all their buddies up.
- 13:57So he was, he had a big job to stay focused anything, but, but
- 14:02he's very kind and generous performer and I I felt lucky to
- 14:07be able to, to meet him and and Darren Criss.
- 14:13I'd worked with before tragedy Henson amazing, right?
- 14:16I mean, oh, he was excellent. Unreal.
- 14:20And, and then a lot of the little, the little littl cameos
- 14:26Danny Trejo's and everything. Like, he's in every Muppet
- 14:28thing. He just shows up Willie's, and
- 14:29of course, he's basically a muppet at this point.
- 14:31Yeah. Yeah, he's crazy.
- 14:33I think it would be very insulted if you didn't call him
- 14:35to come and do nothing. Absolutely, yeah.
- 14:40And getting to do those little dancing with the Moonlight B
- 14:45that showed up during the credits was really fun too
- 14:47because people really got to kind of, I mean, I think who
- 14:51doesn't love dancing with a muppet loads Bell.
- 14:53Those characters in their costumes and so on we just had
- 14:55such a good time with that. So, you know, I'm actually
- 14:58really curious about that that segment and you know, the lot of
- 15:02those celebrities are dancing. They, these dancing moments Like
- 15:07some of the most obscure Muppets, like there's even a
- 15:09couple in there who like I don't even know what their names are
- 15:12did. They choose where they like that
- 15:14guy looks weird. I want to do a moment with him
- 15:16or was that someone on your end who was like you know, we don't
- 15:19want to have the same characters here.
- 15:20So we're going to give you someone random to just like have
- 15:22this this you know, two seconds with yeah that was that was it
- 15:25was I think mostly was built using you know.
- 15:28Let's let's put this guy in. Let's put this guy dancing.
- 15:31Lets you know then and it was it was for that very reason.
- 15:34Like let's get this show, some new faces, let's put spring.
- 15:37In some of these puppets that we haven't seen in a while.
- 15:39So, yeah, great know. I love that stuff.
- 15:41Especially, you know, we find, you know, the Muppet fan
- 15:45Community, every Muppet, every obscure Muppet who shows up in
- 15:49the background is someone's favorite.
- 15:51Someone has glommed onto. Oh, yeah, beautiful day monster
- 15:54or you know, Timmy monster or whoever and just decided like,
- 15:59no, that's that's my guy and I love them.
- 16:01And so you know, to have them, I don't know.
- 16:04Dancing with Alfonso Ribeiro. Is like, oh, what's?
- 16:07What a great moment, you know, like, that's that made someone's
- 16:10day? Yeah, well, you guys don't know
- 16:12this. I had, I did Dancing With The
- 16:15Moonlight with a character whose name I didn't know.
- 16:17And then I learned it and then I forgot it again.
- 16:19Is it Anthony? It's the one with the long red
- 16:22know who's had the bad eyes. So that's the one that I always
- 16:26think of that. I don't know his name
- 16:27hand-colored. Yeah.
- 16:29I didn't even know what we're gonna find out.
- 16:30We're gonna, you would recognize him?
- 16:33Yeah, I would. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:35He's got his people. Out there right now or Screaming
- 16:38his name is oh yeah I think it's Anthony, it's not droop.
- 16:46That's that's the guy with the long nose.
- 16:51Yeah. Have you I'm pausing for a
- 16:54moment. We can write we can and we'll
- 16:55stop it. I feel like I need to know what
- 16:57this guy's. No, it's not frackle.
- 17:01He's a monster. He's tall and vertical and and
- 17:04kind of orange etan. Oh I'm really dead giant nose.
- 17:07Yes. A big J.
- 17:08Yes. I do.
- 17:09He talking about? Yeah like that's really
- 17:14frustrating and we should note that.
- 17:15I don't know. She hasn't named Anthony.
- 17:18He he must have a name. It's okay, his name.
- 17:22All right, I got it. Yeah, his name, according to the
- 17:25Muppet, Wiki is poke that you would think would be the name of
- 17:30the cactus or something. Never in a million years would I
- 17:34have remembered poke. Yeah, but he, well, everyone, go
- 17:38on the Muppet. Wiki, look up poke.
- 17:39You'll know who were talking about you like, oh, that guy is.
- 17:42But he is my favorite character, think he dances with Danny Trejo
- 17:45and at the, in the credits. Yeah, I believe it.
- 17:49Yeah. So have you got one of those
- 17:51characters? Have you got a character like an
- 17:53obscure one that you always go? I really want to play that one.
- 17:59No, because those do all get passed around and then people
- 18:02are pretty pretty disciplined about.
- 18:04The fact that those don't belong to anyone.
- 18:06Yeah. Because you know it's too there
- 18:08are the, there's the main core guys.
- 18:11And their characters are always their characters and all of the
- 18:13other characters are always a free-for-all.
- 18:17It's just very clearly delineated.
- 18:21Yeah, looks weird. We interviewed Bruce lamoille
- 18:24about Mo frackle recently and just because MO is such a, he I
- 18:29mean, talk about obscure characters.
- 18:31We did, we did this oral history of Mo frackle.
- 18:34We thought it'd be fun, but Moe was one of those like yeah,
- 18:37several people have performed him but like it's kind of at
- 18:39this point. Bruce's character like he is
- 18:42decided like this is my guy and I'm sure you know, Bill makes a
- 18:46point to be like, okay well Who's here?
- 18:48He's got to take Mo so and I hope that you get someone like
- 18:53that. Maybe, maybe poke is your, is
- 18:55your new guy? I don't know.
- 18:57We were doing, we were. There was a, there's a lobster
- 19:00that I always grab. If there's a group scene if I
- 19:02could possibly at all, can I think he's from Muppets tonight?
- 19:05I think he had little six shooters in a some episode.
- 19:08Think he was a bad bad Lobster, and but it's just, it's so
- 19:13funny. I love it so much.
- 19:14It's just got these big dumb hands, and there's law.
- 19:18Long antennae and I just I can't stand how much I love that
- 19:21Lobster. So who knows?
- 19:23So so what we need to do is give that Lobster name and then we're
- 19:27going to make sure that that Lobster is gets an article with
- 19:30that name on The Muppet Wiki we're going to list you as the
- 19:33performer and it's just can't. And then in 20 years time, this
- 19:36interview will be in the oral history there at.
- 19:39Well I know and I can't write is already a superstar crustacean
- 19:43so I don't know if there's room for another but that's exactly
- 19:46right there could be two. There are two Muppet bears in
- 19:50the main troop, right? True.
- 19:51That's so why not? Yeah, lots of pigs.
- 19:55Yeah, I think that's so limiting to think that they can be.
- 19:59The only the only coach date. Crustacean well.
- 20:03So you you've performed a few pre-existing Muppets already
- 20:09that you didn't originate but you've had to pick up the reins
- 20:13like I know you've played you know like Afghan hound and Wanda
- 20:17and yeah. London, yeah, you've played
- 20:19before. So what kind of research you
- 20:22have to do when you know? Like okay, so you know, so and
- 20:24so is not going to be here to play this character or this
- 20:26character has 40 Years of history and, you know, I have to
- 20:31play them in the background of the scene.
- 20:33Is there anything that goes goes through your mind when you do
- 20:35that? Or is it just kind of?
- 20:36Like, I don't know. It's a random character.
- 20:37All figured out, well, ulanda, and Wanda Wanda, you launder
- 20:41their sort of Julian's character, for sure.
- 20:44And so, it's always would be a matter of double.
- 20:48For her. And yeah, that that wonderful
- 20:53Afghan Hound again. One of many wonderful dog,
- 20:55puppets that are floating around and again, often don't have
- 20:59specific names, or specific performers, but I do like that
- 21:02one a lot. And yeah, I don't think she has
- 21:05a name other than Afghan hound. And that I think that's the
- 21:08name. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:09Also, that that gravediggers dog didn't have a name other than,
- 21:13you know? Oh, that really nice dog.
- 21:14Puppet, from Storyteller or not. Meet our buddy, picnic and and,
- 21:21and diggle's named it Yates after the poet.
- 21:23I think so now. It's.
- 21:25Oh, now it's okay. That's good to know.
- 21:27Yeah, yeah. Alright, so now everyone who you
- 21:30Muppet Wiki editors, you heard it here first.
- 21:33Uh-huh. That's that's a dog's name.
- 21:34Its. Yeah.
- 21:36And yeah, it was just one of those very again, late at night.
- 21:38And he's like, what's that dog's name?
- 21:39I said, I don't know. He said it is Yates.
- 21:47I love that. He gave it like such a literary
- 21:49name of like it's not a silly name.
- 21:51No, it's not. Like he looks like like where is
- 21:53he pulled that from? And he's bringing like he's just
- 21:56come out straight away with it. Did he have that like
- 21:58germinating for a week? And it was like, I'm going to
- 22:01call that thing Yates for just bang out.
- 22:04I don't know, that's the mystery that is that goals?
- 22:08Yeah, Dave's brain. You've worked like you said, you
- 22:10know, you'll try to pick things that are really fun.
- 22:12And it was interesting, you know, looking through your sort
- 22:17of Muppet wiki page just to see the wide range of things, you've
- 22:21worked on, like you were Britta in community, like the puppet
- 22:26Britta. How was how was that?
- 22:29Because the community is one of my all-time favorite shows.
- 22:33And God knows season for has its ups and downs but I for one love
- 22:38that episode. So what was it like working on
- 22:41it for a while? Week or whatever it was, it was.
- 22:47I mean it was really fun. I wasn't super familiar with the
- 22:49show and win another. I'd seen it, but I wasn't an
- 22:53enormous. You know, I certainly hadn't
- 22:56seen every episode. I know the characters names and
- 22:58that was, that was about that. But it was it was, I knew that
- 23:02they did these sort of stunt episodes and there's a number of
- 23:07other shows have done that as well, Glee did one and an angel.
- 23:12Um but that one felt like it wasn't you know, like it was
- 23:17like it was really a part of the story and like it R is really
- 23:21appropriate to what they were but they were trying to do and
- 23:24it was the humans who were, you know, the human actors all
- 23:31responded to it very, very differently.
- 23:33There were a couple of them that were there the whole time and
- 23:35they wanted to watch and they wanted to talk to us and they
- 23:37wanted to like, confab on on character and characterization
- 23:41that and really be a part of it. It and there were a few others
- 23:43who thought? Yay!
- 23:45We got off. I get to just do a voiceover and
- 23:49so it was I'm not saying who was who but it was it was shielded
- 23:56behind the scenes. People know nothing about the
- 23:58community behind the scenes we can probably guess, but we let's
- 24:02not get litigious. Stay in participate.
- 24:07It was so fun to have their input and to have them be so
- 24:12sort of Tickled to see themselves and each other as as
- 24:15puppets. Do you have to do then like
- 24:19maybe watch a little bit of cuz obviously Gillian Jacobs had
- 24:21played that role for three and a half four years at that point
- 24:24you have to then watch some of her characteristics so that you
- 24:28can translate that in puppet form.
- 24:31Oh sure. Yeah I wanted to know how she
- 24:33sat in a chair you know and if she flipped her hair if she did
- 24:35something with her hands or if she had any like I did yeah.
- 24:37You had to have to learn that. Yeah and so that's I had watched
- 24:44a number of episodes kind of running through them and just
- 24:47getting to the Jillian parts. So, and I watched a few episodes
- 24:52all the way all the way through but but I watched alot of
- 24:55specifically her scenes. Yeah, so another thing you
- 24:58worked on is Tim America. Now I have heard that that was a
- 25:05really difficult shoot. Just a lot of the
- 25:09behind-the-scenes of that is the like I think Trey and Matt have
- 25:11both said, We didn't think it would be that hard.
- 25:15So what was it like on a puppeteer point of view?
- 25:18Because I mean some of the stuff those puppets do, I don't think
- 25:21they realized how hard it was for puppet.
- 25:23Took walk across the set and pick up a glass or whatever it
- 25:26was. So what was it like then for you
- 25:27guys? Well, that was one I do.
- 25:33I certainly didn't work on that as much as a lot of my friends
- 25:37did. I may not be the right person to
- 25:39ask for the juiciest stories on that, and That was because I
- 25:43actually had a brief period of being unwell during that time,
- 25:46but at times that I did get to go, they did, they were people
- 25:52were either up in Cherry Pickers way, up high, and unable to come
- 25:56down and go to the bathroom, get food or anything like that.
- 25:59Like that would stay up there for hours, and hours, and hours,
- 26:01and hours, or you'd be stuffed under the set with Rod puppets
- 26:04and and you know, deep deep, deep under a huge set, with 25
- 26:09people and unable to like, come out and go.
- 26:12Bathroom and get it you know like if you get stuck in these
- 26:15places for long, long periods of time, it took a really long time
- 26:18to set up all those puppets and make them all look good.
- 26:21And then once you are in there, you couldn't leave.
- 26:23So there was a lot of, a lot of sort of jumped into these very
- 26:29dark, small spaces, and just like telling stories and hanging
- 26:33out maybe singing some songs. And and that's the life of a
- 26:38puppeteer just being crammed into a small space.
- 26:41Yeah. Then having to use the through
- 26:42my assume. Yes.
- 26:44But we're for people who are used to working with puppets and
- 26:46puppeteers all the time they sort of, they sort of work that
- 26:50into the system. Yeah.
- 26:52And they understand that that's going to happen and that's how
- 26:55it's going to be and I think they were learning as they as
- 26:57they went along. So basically I remember a whole
- 26:59lot of long setups like that, but I also, you know, the were
- 27:05some remote controls for the faces on those.
- 27:09And that was sort of my favorite part because I'm a little bit of
- 27:12a Animatronics wonk. And so I really liked doing
- 27:15their little, their little marionette faces with the little
- 27:18remote controls. So plus he didn't have to be
- 27:23under this date. I want to rig.
- 27:25Yeah. You could go out and get
- 27:25somebody on the bathrooms. What you wanted?
- 27:28Hmm. Yeah I do I do want to go back
- 27:32to the community for just a hot second just because we know that
- 27:35event Nicole Brown is such a super fan of Muppets.
- 27:39And so first of all, I have to assume that she was one of
- 27:43people who stuck around set when you were there.
- 27:46Yes. Just meet everybody and see how
- 27:48it works. And because I also remember by
- 27:50the time that episode came out, she had been saying in a lot of
- 27:54interviews when they were like, what else do you want to do?
- 27:56Because you've done, you know, an animated episode in a
- 27:59Dungeons and Dragons episode and whatever else they had done and
- 28:01she was like, I want to do Muppets, I just want Muppets.
- 28:03I want my boots. Muppets muppets.
- 28:05And, you know, of course it wasn't Muppets, it was puppets
- 28:09but Muppet it was mopping adjacent.
- 28:11Very similar. Yeah, yeah, exactly so well, of
- 28:14course, she had a wonderful role in my Dimension.
- 28:18Yeah, we were all So, it was good.
- 28:21It. Did you guys like, like touch
- 28:23base about that? And be like, do you remember I
- 28:24was there? Yes.
- 28:26And and she had again, Juliet had performed her character on
- 28:31community, so and then they were working together again on this
- 28:34on this project. So it's nice to see and had the
- 28:38feeling of, like, one of us. When we found out, she was in it
- 28:41because we know what, like, a massive Muppet fan.
- 28:43She was, it was not, wasn't she wonderful it?
- 28:48I just want to go. Oh, that she's terrific.
- 28:50Yeah, she's just such a good human being as well.
- 28:54Like, I mean, we all read her Twitter account and, and see
- 28:58just how like, you know, passionate sand and you know,
- 29:03she has about both like social justice as well as things like
- 29:07you know Muppets which that's very much, you know, up our
- 29:10alley, both those things. Yeah well they're very they're
- 29:14not unrelated I think. Right, really great.
- 29:19So I know that our good friend Ryan row is listening to this
- 29:24and wondering when we're going to ask you about snazzy, your
- 29:29character, from Aliens in the family.
- 29:33Who is I think the world's biggest aliens of the family
- 29:36pant. Yeah it is a deep that the
- 29:38world's the world's only aliens in the family fan so can you
- 29:46Explain a little bit about I guess like how you got the role
- 29:51or even just what it was like performing on this.
- 29:53This show that I'm actually not sure if you guys knew if it was
- 29:58going to be the I don't want to say failure.
- 30:03But like it didn't really stick around but like as you were
- 30:05making it, if you knew that this wasn't going to be the biggest
- 30:07hit, or if it was like, no, this is the next big thing.
- 30:10We're on TGIF. Get.
- 30:12It seemed like it had. It seemed like it had a shot.
- 30:14I mean, I thought the writing was Really good.
- 30:16The writing that had writer Creator.
- 30:18Was Andy Borowitz? His stuff is so funny.
- 30:20I don't know if your watch if you, if you read his stuff in
- 30:22the New Yorker or, you know, he's a really great humor writer
- 30:27and, and he was just constantly funny.
- 30:30The scripts were great and we had a lot of the same performers
- 30:35and Builders and people behind the scenes as he had done
- 30:38dinosaurs and that had run for a long time on, you know, on
- 30:45network TV. And we were all really
- 30:47optimistic about it. It was and, you know, Alien
- 30:51Family sitcom and another Network, at the very same time
- 30:55was producing and putting up alien family, sitcom called
- 30:59Third Rock From the Sun and we thought this is gonna mmmm, you
- 31:03know, one of these is probably going to, you know, these can
- 31:06both hit a pig, they were similar in flavor and theme and
- 31:13we all know what happened there. Well, it was a classic 30 Rock
- 31:17versus Studio. 60 moment of what we can't have both of these want
- 31:23to eat when he's got to go. Yeah, but I thought well, I'm
- 31:26sorry that it was you who had to go because those puppets really
- 31:29are, they're incredibly impressive puppets.
- 31:31You know. They're like really lifelike.
- 31:34And of course just having more Henson stuff on TV was always a
- 31:37good thing but but yeah, it was not meant to be unfortunately.
- 31:41Yeah, and there were a lot of human actors on that that have
- 31:44become big stars since who were Rather obscure character actors
- 31:47when we did it, and that's fun. It's been fun to watch them, you
- 31:50know, there was a Allison, it wasn't Ryan Reynolds on that
- 31:54show. James made that James Van Der
- 31:56Beek was on, that's at James. Van.
- 31:58Der Beek Dawson's Creek and Allison Janney before West Wing.
- 32:05And, hmm, you got Aaron Eckhart. You've got to Hayden Panettiere?
- 32:10Yeah, little tiny baby, Hayden Panettiere just for you.
- 32:13Wow. Really interesting.
- 32:17That none of those folks have really worked with the Muppets.
- 32:19Since I know Allison Janney did smidge.
- 32:21I mean, you guys were on West way.
- 32:23I know you were on the water with the Sesame characters and
- 32:27you know, she went to the to a Fraggle Rock like a photo op for
- 32:32fraggle, rocks, 35th Anniversary, or something like
- 32:34that. This is so obscure.
- 32:36I don't know why this information is in my brain.
- 32:39But I well let's maybe that's a good segue.
- 32:42To talk about West Wing because West Wing is also one of my
- 32:44favorite shows along with with These are like the two TV shows
- 32:47to non Muppet shows that I own on DVD.
- 32:50You are eating your what was it like around the edges of my
- 32:54girl. Yeah else.
- 32:56I am I am not prepared for this interview and thus he had no
- 32:59idea you were coming until two seconds before you were.
- 33:01Right? He's The Fringe items but sure.
- 33:06Let's do, yeah. I'm I'm All About The Fringe
- 33:10like I want to get to the stuff that you've literally never
- 33:13spoken out loud about, you know, Let's talk about the one episode
- 33:17of West Wing appeared on. Okay, what was it like getting
- 33:23to visit? Because it was a it was a huge
- 33:24smash hit. This is like the what the fifth
- 33:26season of the show. It's a smash hit this point you
- 33:28got to like go and hang out with like Stockard Channing.
- 33:32Well, he Tomlin I was gonna say that was the big though is the
- 33:35big, big deal for me because when I was when I was a little
- 33:39kid I was I was I was obsessed with grease.
- 33:43I just loved. I would go over night.
- 33:45I had that out. The album with the fold-out and
- 33:47I would play that I'm dating myself.
- 33:49But I was seeing it in theaters when I was, you know, a kid and
- 33:55it was it was such a thrill to meet Rizzo is very, very, very
- 34:00Starstruck by her and I loved it and she was really and we meet a
- 34:05lot of celebrities. We made a lot of slack.
- 34:07We're actually well, in the case of you were Will Arnett and the
- 34:12the Peewee we're often very close.
- 34:16To sort of intimate places on a lot of celebrities because we're
- 34:20on the floor and they're standing up and you know that
- 34:24it's you you get used to it, you get used to being with famous
- 34:28people, but every now and then somebody that meant a lot to you
- 34:31when you were a kid or this one thing that they did was really
- 34:35for some reason sticks with you and for me seeing meeting Rizzo
- 34:40was a big deal. So that was this a big deal?
- 34:45Yeah. Who doesn't love Stockard?
- 34:46Channing I guess maybe people who've only seen mr.
- 34:52Willoughby's. Christmas tree.
- 34:53Maybe. Don't know.
- 34:53Stockard, Channing? Yeah.
- 34:56I mean I had wiped. She hasn't been, you know, front
- 35:01and center for a while since Wes being really has she but that's
- 35:04an oversight on the part of everybody.
- 35:07Oh absolutely right. Okay.
- 35:09If there's any casting directors, listening to this
- 35:11podcast, go higher Stockard. Channing she's a delight.
- 35:16His podcast in Hollywood said, they definitely listening.
- 35:18It's yeah, I mean, maybe she's had it with all that, and she
- 35:22just is Raising alpacas somewhere.
- 35:24I don't know, but I ain't Joe. You need to speak to your Uncle,
- 35:27Steve That's right, Uncle Steve. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:31I got him on the horn. Yeah, all right.
- 35:35So let's let's will jump around again.
- 35:37So I see that you performed on the, the 2015, Muppets, sitcom,
- 35:44you performed, the original character, a Linda, which is
- 35:47the, I believe the young Pig that is infatuated with Miss
- 35:51Piggy. Now, if that show didn't really
- 35:54lend itself to a whole lot of original characters, So what was
- 36:00the process for kind of developing this like base is a
- 36:04new? It was a new Muppet, you know,
- 36:06that that's very that's rare these days.
- 36:09So what was that process like for you, it it, you know, sheshe
- 36:14needed to be a fan girl and she needed to be, she needed to
- 36:19actually find a way to tug Piggies heartstrings at a time
- 36:25when she'd gone particularly off the rails.
- 36:28And And yep, and I decided to do it pretty much straightforward.
- 36:32I decided to, you know, be be a version of, you know, I was a
- 36:35teenage girl at one point and it was, it was, it was fun to just
- 36:41sort of tap into that. And just just have that moment
- 36:44of being released are striking, just loving someone doesn't so
- 36:47excited to be in her presence and can't really believe this.
- 36:49And and, you know, so I just, I just decided to go really
- 36:53straight straight ahead without one and it was one of them and I
- 36:57assume, I'm sorry. Oh no.
- 36:59I think it was one of the puppets from Christmas Carol.
- 37:03Yeah, well, I was gonna ask that because it was one of the I've
- 37:06always wondered whether or not cuz then a, Melinda and Belinda
- 37:10are basically the same name I've always wondered if that was a
- 37:12little like, wake to the Muppet fans, I guess note that Linda
- 37:18was the name of the best friend of one of the writers.
- 37:21Okay, well, I'll, uh, I'll see myself out, fascinating, huh?
- 37:25I love it. It says I was wondering if Linda
- 37:27had a twin sister. ER named Tina and I guess not,
- 37:31it was just a, it was just a little Easter egg for the
- 37:34writers friend. Well, there you go.
- 37:37I love it. An Easter egg for one person,
- 37:39they often the best type of extracts.
- 37:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:42This come from somewhere and so absolutely well.
- 37:47And I imagine, it would have been easy for you to play.
- 37:50You know, a young person who is infatuated with Miss Piggy,
- 37:53because I have to assume that you much like us, grew up with
- 37:57the Muppets and you're looking at the real Miss.
- 37:58He and you're like, oh my God, like, that would have been any
- 38:01of us as teenagers obsessed. I still get Starstruck by them
- 38:06sometimes never when they're just sitting on a stand you
- 38:10know, never when they're just lying on a table and you can
- 38:13mean the difference between Kermit, all emptied out and flat
- 38:16on a table because it's just. Yeah.
- 38:19And between seeing him, you know, upright and looking
- 38:21around. And even if he's not talking or
- 38:23doing anything, just just seeing him on.
- 38:26Yeah. And it's You get a little bit
- 38:29every now and then, you think I am.
- 38:32I went to the set of the 2015 show and I was basically like
- 38:37they were filming in the like, writers room, and I was
- 38:40basically huddled is it into Comas office and they had a
- 38:45Kermit puppet the entire time. Just sitting on the stand with
- 38:48these little floppy head and I was like, oh yeah.
- 38:51That's Kermit. That's like Tim.
- 38:52It's a puppet. Like that's the almost the first
- 38:54time I really went. Yeah, he's just a puppet and
- 38:57then Steve Whitmire came. When I will take a photo now,
- 39:00put cumin on. And then I got Starstruck right.
- 39:06It's such a weird thing that you can't explain to people who
- 39:09haven't had had it happen to them.
- 39:12It's such a weasel phenomenon. Like, when I've been around like
- 39:17of interview, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
- 39:18When, you know, David, Rudman pulled Cookie Monster out of a
- 39:21bag. I was like, oh yeah, it's just a
- 39:23floppy. Little piece of felt puts him on
- 39:26and I'm like, oh my God, that's cookie.
- 39:28On stuff like this, turn it to that little five-year-old again.
- 39:32Uh-huh. Very strange.
- 39:33And then you completely forget that the puppeteers there, which
- 39:38is a credit to you guys because like I'm a 32 year old man and I
- 39:42will genuinely forget about David Rodman because I've got
- 39:45Cookie Monster next to me. Yeah.
- 39:47Me too. So strange.
- 39:51Yep. It's the aleut thing that cleat.
- 39:54Yeah. The thing that gets me every
- 39:57time that I will never be as long as I live get used to is
- 40:01when one of the puppets says my name.
- 40:03Oh yeah. Of like, it's one thing to be
- 40:05like, wow, there's a celebrity right there, something to be
- 40:07like that celebrity is acknowledging my existence.
- 40:09Yeah. Like like I still remember I was
- 40:13on the Sesame, Street set once and Peter Lynch was performing
- 40:17Ernie and just I'm not even paying attention to whatever
- 40:20they're doing, on-camera this here.
- 40:21Ernie Koy like woo! Hello!
- 40:23Joe. How you doing?
- 40:24And I'm just like what What, no, I can't I can't.
- 40:27He is like like this guy that I watched on TV taught me how to
- 40:30read and like, yeah, like he's not, he's my friend in my head
- 40:34not in real life but he knows me, so maybe he is.
- 40:38Oh, yes, Ting mui. Let me just, let me just send a
- 40:41little text here. One second.
- 40:44All right. Now you can edit this part out a
- 40:46cool. Yeah.
- 40:50Hang on or we can leave in the silence.
- 40:53This is time for everyone. Who's listening to just take a
- 40:56breath breath. You know.
- 40:57Meditate on the day. Yeah.
- 41:00Just think about fun things that can possibly happen.
- 41:06Hmm. Let's see.
- 41:08Hmm. I'm leaving to Seoul in now we
- 41:10said that I'm going to drop some f-bombs so you have to add in.
- 41:17Okay, great. What was it so exciting that he
- 41:24said to you yes he's nice and said.
- 41:27He said hello. He said my name.
- 41:28It was the greatest. Yeah.
- 41:30What did he say though? He said, hey buddy, you like, oh
- 41:34hello Joe. Hello there Joe?
- 41:38Oh, all right. Oh, is Ernie in your house?
- 41:42Like this gentleman right here, mr.
- 41:45Pate de Lins. Welcome peda.
- 41:47Thanks Jared hike later. I know this is better.
- 41:54The fact that Peter Lynn's knows, my name is better than
- 41:57Ernie knowing yeah, that's okay Frank.
- 41:59I'm happy that I know your name from Mexico.
- 42:04It's fine. I'll take it.
- 42:05I don't care. It's good.
- 42:06It's not, you remember. I don't know if you remember
- 42:08this, paid a, but you and I did a lobster.
- 42:10And last year we chatted, and then afterwards, we chatted for
- 42:12about 20 minutes, just off camera.
- 42:14And I said to you how much I love doing and you're like, oh,
- 42:17I did it back just over there and I was like, well, don't tell
- 42:20me that and then you've stepped off frame and then all here who
- 42:25Jared hey buddy. Right?
- 42:30This moment of my life. Oh, that's very sweet.
- 42:33He's still, well, he's still there, but he's not here.
- 42:36He's not here. It's on the other coast well,
- 42:38fair enough. It's okay.
- 42:40Yeah, okay, alright, okay. Well, he, you know, he's got it,
- 42:42he's got an apartment so that he lives in on here, on our on our
- 42:46const. You know you're here is.
- 42:47It's right with his risk away to La.
- 42:49No, he can't. Just spring doesn't know he's
- 42:51not a jetsetter. Not at all.
- 42:53Not at all. I will stop.
- 42:59Busted crashing. The interview here at Peter.
- 43:00You are you are not the focus of this.
- 43:02This interview I am not know. I beautiful woman so I'm going
- 43:05to just go back over there and my guys dice is yeah go go
- 43:09eavesdrop at SATA nice to say you do you too?
- 43:14What a great guy nice man. Yeah he's alright we like his
- 43:18company very much he's fine. We often say Peters the nicest
- 43:23man and the gnosis man out of ever met in my life.
- 43:26I really feel the same I'm glad head
- 43:48a little bit Turkey Hollow. I think once I think one of the
- 43:51only times you and I have ever talked to each other, we were
- 43:54going to set up an interview about Turkey Hollow and then for
- 43:56whatever reason, we just didn't get around to it.
- 43:59Um, so you were puppet, Captain correct.
- 44:04Can you explain to me? Because I've never been able to
- 44:05figure it out. What is a puppet Captain?
- 44:09Oh, okay. There are several different
- 44:12aspects of that job. Mostly mostly, you're in charge
- 44:17of the puppeteers and helping everybody, make sure that they
- 44:22are where they need to be. And that they're, you know,
- 44:24they're their monitors are in the right place and that they
- 44:27have the assistance that they need.
- 44:28Or want. And if there's any politics
- 44:30there that you make sure that the right people are with the
- 44:32right people and and you communicate with them.
- 44:36I would, you know, I would send out an email each evening about
- 44:40how the day's shoot when and what was coming up for the next
- 44:42day and, you know what to prepare for and what the weather
- 44:44was going to be like, because we're outside a lot.
- 44:47And then also, we would read through the set with the read,
- 44:55through this scene, with the director and then they would
- 44:57turn the set over 2. Lighting and grips and electric
- 45:00and so on. And I would often stay, make
- 45:03sure that the monitors got where they need to be in the greens.
- 45:05Men would cover them up and they wouldn't be in the shot and how
- 45:08we were going to lay track, so that we could move along dirt
- 45:11roads. And so, I was working with the
- 45:15as you work with it, with the grip department and the video
- 45:17text as well to set everything up.
- 45:19And then then the third thing that you do is coordinate with
- 45:23the shop. If there are any problems or
- 45:25issues with you know, something not fitting right or not
- 45:28feeling, right? Right?
- 45:29Or a rod that isn't working or if there's a repair that needs
- 45:31to be made. So we basically in charge of the
- 45:33puppets and the puppeteers, am the puppet setups and so there
- 45:38can and then there's just a certain sort of like you know,
- 45:43Boy Scout leader Den mother type role as well where you're sort
- 45:46of. Come on, guys.
- 45:49Don't know you're tired, but we gotta do this one more time and
- 45:53make decisions about, you know, even what we should and
- 45:56shouldn't do on Turkey Hollow. They wanted to They wanted to
- 45:59bury Us in the ground so that they could, the characters could
- 46:02be sitting on the ground in a forest and be working and moving
- 46:05and sort of did a survey, like, who's okay, with this and who
- 46:09isn't, and there was really only one person I really can't.
- 46:13And the rest of us were buried in holes in the ground and, and
- 46:16we did so. And and again, that was
- 46:19coordinating with with Scenic and and you know how that how
- 46:25the safety of that was going to work.
- 46:26And to make sure that we You know, if anyone had a problem or
- 46:32panics that there was a protocol in place to get out and get the
- 46:37plywood up and get the dirt off and Jesus.
- 46:39Yeah, yeah. So I mean we weren't did you did
- 46:43you get a captain's hat as the public Captain?
- 46:47Well again this was a Kirk Thatcher joint and if you know
- 46:50Kirk you know, that he wears a captain's hat, he goes oh he
- 46:53does where the characters and true actually frequently.
- 46:55I mean, he always wears somehow sometimes it's a top hat.
- 46:59But often it's a captain's. Yeah, so you don't you don't
- 47:05want to step on any toes there. No, especially not Kirk's.
- 47:09But was it was really, really nice to do.
- 47:11My first puppet Captain job. Not only with people, I didn't
- 47:15really know. So, I wasn't bossing my friends
- 47:17around but also with Canadians who are so nice, they're
- 47:22ridiculously nice. And, you know, even when even
- 47:26when one person's feelings were hurt because I hadn't All the
- 47:28men all day and I hadn't realized that I hadn't sort of
- 47:31spread the wealth out. And I got this very hurt email,
- 47:34but it was so polite and nice kind of thing.
- 47:39And so it was it was a good way to get once feet wet in the
- 47:43cabinet leadership world is. Yeah I highly recommend working
- 47:46with Canadians when you have to be the boss for the first time I
- 47:51love it so, but because you were in Canada you probably didn't
- 47:56get to work with a lot of the The regular Henson crew that I
- 48:01assume that you're extremely familiar with working in La.
- 48:07Does that make it easier or harder when you're working with
- 48:09people? You've never really worked with
- 48:11before, well, it made it easier because I was having to, to kind
- 48:18of, you know, be the be the leader and it's weird when
- 48:22you're sort of growing up with somebody and suddenly, you're
- 48:24making that kind of decisions for them.
- 48:28And and I actually had to cast those four characters.
- 48:31I had myself and three other puppeteers and I had to decide
- 48:33who was what? So that was that stuff.
- 48:36Yeah, it was it was it was really interesting and I knew I
- 48:41knew cord Robertson a little bit from one of the I think was from
- 48:44very merry Muppet Christmas or Muppets Wizard of Oz or both and
- 48:48Rob Mills name, of course, I knew from Frederick.
- 48:51And so on back in the day about Jason hopley, I'd never met
- 48:54before and he's marvelous, he's so fun, so funny.
- 48:58And so it was a really great team and and you know, to I Knew
- 49:05by name one, I knew from a little bit from having worked
- 49:07with and but we just, you know, was a short Chute but we bonded
- 49:13and it was really, really a wonderful experience.
- 49:17I had a great time, that's great and it's a fun.
- 49:19It's a fun special to. Yeah.
- 49:22It's you know this time of year for it.
- 49:24I hope it's around right now because it's a Thanksgiving.
- 49:29Yeah. And you perform squonk.
- 49:32So like what what makes squonk different from the other?
- 49:35The other three monsters, you know, in a lot of ways, I
- 49:39thought he was the he was the most sort of agile and easily
- 49:43and moving around a lot and, uh, and, you know, looking this way.
- 49:46And and that was or as some of the others who are a little more
- 49:50Squat and they all had their, they all had their aspects and
- 49:57yeah, it's Bonkers like always in motion.
- 49:58Ocean and always the most curious and always the most
- 50:00easily at noticed around. So that was that was fun, most
- 50:04active active one and that's fun.
- 50:07That's, that's another thing I want to look for him.
- 50:08Next time, I watched the special is like, yeah.
- 50:11Like those those little intricacies that you're, I'm
- 50:14assuming just making up while you're on set.
- 50:16Yeah, yeah. And I got to do that.
- 50:19Really fun scene with the little boy that I watched that scene in
- 50:24How to Train Your Dragon, a bunch of times when toothless
- 50:28first. He learns to, to trust my
- 50:32blanking on the kid's name. How to Train Your Dragon?
- 50:36Never mind. He had a short name like Hawks
- 50:39spit, or yes? Huh, cor.
- 50:42Yes, that's not right. Ya know what was I'm on it.
- 50:46I'm on it was it was it poke poke, poke hiccup hiccup that
- 50:55was his name. Watch that movie about 50 times
- 51:01with my kids. So I should know that but um, Is
- 51:04that great scene where Toothless and Hiccup get to know each
- 51:06other and they're like, they're learning to trust and learning
- 51:09to see what, you know, interact without harming one another, and
- 51:15they're both prayed with their both curious and so on.
- 51:17And I've really tried to do that with squonk and the little boy.
- 51:22So there was, there's that nice scene where he's reaching out to
- 51:24touch him and pulling back. And so that was it's fun too.
- 51:29It's fun to have one of those moments that you realize is a
- 51:31set piece in other movies that you know and love it's a thing
- 51:36you've seen before and I got to do it for sure.
- 51:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:41Well I mean those puppets must just be sitting in a drawer
- 51:43somewhere so I don't know. I don't know why we're not
- 51:45getting a sequel, we had a blank.
- 51:47We got to bring squonk back. Yeah they're in there.
- 51:49There are matured in there in the reception at Henson LaBrea.
- 51:53So oh well there you go. All right, so everyone break in
- 51:57and go see those my armor. Puppets.
- 51:59Yeah, I think I feel like I need to say for legal purposes.
- 52:02Do not break in to the gym and I can't have Brian Henson here.
- 52:08We don't, we don't officially condone it, I'm staying sighs.
- 52:14Um, can I ask a question then else you were talking about?
- 52:17You know being dug in a hole you know they have there been any
- 52:22sort of other places you've been like really uncomfortable or
- 52:29Specifically, you know where you're like, I'm not sure about
- 52:31this. I'm thinking specifically, you
- 52:33talked on Matt bogles below the frame about like at one point
- 52:37they wanted to put your next one elephant.
- 52:39And you're like, no, I'm not doing that.
- 52:41That wasn't a Henson show. I don't know if they would have.
- 52:44That was that was for those for something, something else.
- 52:47And we did a lot of really sort of extreme situations on that
- 52:51show was a choice choice, a, which oh it is, I don't know.
- 52:59Massey and I did a show called Cousin Skeeter for Nickelodeon
- 53:01then in the mid late 90s, and I'm really, really proud of that
- 53:07show because we push the boundaries constantly of what
- 53:12puppets could do. Because again, it was people who
- 53:15had worked with puppets a lot before.
- 53:16So they would write these things about how he you know you know
- 53:22jumps through a jump through a window and glass flies
- 53:25everywhere and you know, okay. We're going to do that.
- 53:28And we had a stunt version of him and we would throw them
- 53:31through candy glass and it would break everywhere.
- 53:33And we just, you know, we got to do a lot of sort of cartoonishly
- 53:37violent things with him that we wouldn't get to do on on a
- 53:42necessarily a Sesame Street, or a, or a Muppet thing.
- 53:45And, and we worked a whole lot on all of those Rigs and gags
- 53:50with Scott Johnson. And you're going Ferguson who
- 53:54are now in their Wrangler Builder, rigor, Extraordinaire
- 54:00team, they worked on darker, still in Fraggle Rock.
- 54:03And you know all the all the I mean they are there unsung
- 54:07heroes of so many Difficult intricate High rig high-tech
- 54:17situations, Happy Time murders, and that Angel episode, and they
- 54:23just think they're, they're everywhere.
- 54:25And they're wonderful and and don't get nearly enough credit,
- 54:31but the two of them and Drew. And I did that show for three
- 54:34seasons, and we had to constantly invent, and we're
- 54:37constantly going out on a limb. There were only a few minor
- 54:41Juries I dropped a hammer on Drew's once I think I told that
- 54:45and the episode as well and you know, we always get kicked in
- 54:51the face and then and things from actors and things have, you
- 54:55know, there's always things that happen.
- 54:57But but by and large we did. We did.
- 55:00Okay and there were only a few things that we really do the
- 55:02lineup. Everything else we tried to do.
- 55:04Yeah. And one of them was the
- 55:05elephant. Yeah.
- 55:06Yeah. It was a quick assefa sewed.
- 55:08And they and their and the again the stunt it actually had to be
- 55:12picked up in the trunk and waved around by this elephant, and
- 55:14they trained her to do it. Wow, but they wow.
- 55:18Shot to begin with him standing there petting.
- 55:20Her trunk. And we said, nope, can't do it.
- 55:24Absolutely not. Uh-huh.
- 55:28They didn't like you can bury me at me, but keep me away from the
- 55:33animal can know what is this big?
- 55:38She's just I know else. What else are you working on
- 55:45these days? Or can you tell us what you're
- 55:47working on right now? Let's see.
- 55:51I am working on petting my dog. So if you hear a weird grunting
- 55:54noise, that's what that is. I shamed us later.
- 56:02Very cute Hello, didn't he? Let's see.
- 56:09I'm working on a A new show at Henson that I can't.
- 56:12That I can't talk too much about but it's preschool show and it's
- 56:16with real great love it, so it's not awesome, it's not acps, it's
- 56:20not animatronics, it's not it's old-school fuzzy and since our
- 56:25puppet it's adorable, it's going to be wonderful and it's going
- 56:28to be on Apple. Terrific.
- 56:29Yeah and before that I did some teaching with with puppets with
- 56:35Peter and Bill and before that I was working on all spring and
- 56:39summer. I was working on On cranking
- 56:41kurz which I know it's a lip-sync show and I don't get to
- 56:46do the acting on it. I love love love.
- 56:50Creating you know, different characters, three times a day
- 56:54and my very favorite thing to do is just to find an animal or
- 56:58something. Just try to upstage everyone in
- 57:00the background. That's one of the best parts of
- 57:02that show. Just like a little characters in
- 57:04the background just going nuts. That's usually me like if it's
- 57:12knocking something over if it's if it's if there's something
- 57:15like but gets water poured on it or anything whatever like just
- 57:20If there's a message being made or if there's chaos and like, if
- 57:23something's breaking, I'm trying to, I'm trying to break stuff
- 57:27back there. You're probably maybe one of the
- 57:30only ones who's willing to be like, look, I'll just get
- 57:32myself, you know, drenched with water for this bit.
- 57:36Yeah. Or, or I'm willing to anger, the
- 57:40art Department by, you know, banging to a Shelf, full of
- 57:44whatever. It is a plastic cans of some of
- 57:46our art supplies or whatever, just like knock the whole thing
- 57:48down in there, like they get out there.
- 57:50Photos of how it looked and they put everything back the whole
- 57:54thing over. Again, it's just, you are the
- 57:57enemy of of set continuity, but I take care of the puppets.
- 58:00I don't damage the puppets. I'd never break puppets, some
- 58:03people are famous for that but I'm really, really careful with
- 58:07the puppets themselves. Just not stuff around them.
- 58:12Right. Well it totally works for sure
- 58:15like that. Absolutely.
- 58:17As if you have anything else to do it, should we go into the
- 58:19wrap up late? I think I am ready for the
- 58:23wrap-up. Excellent.
- 58:26Not going to ask about. Okay, that's fine.
- 58:28Well, we're going to ask about start Crystal belt, okay?
- 58:32I have Dark Crystal heat in front of me and yes, I would
- 58:34like, I've taped a mini to get too high, but then I'm like, I'm
- 58:36very wary that I'm weaving over in it.
- 58:38Like we've been an hour and I didn't want to take you.
- 58:40Okay, you're done. Nobody can I can I just say,
- 58:43wait a minute. I was I had it in my head.
- 58:46When we got when we started, we can edit this part out.
- 58:48And in my head I'm like right? You went to, you went to London,
- 58:51you worked An age of resistance, and then I'm looking at your
- 58:53Muppet wiki page and I'm like, am I think?
- 58:55I'm somebody else have it, not on here, it's not on the Muppet
- 58:57wiki page. No, because I had to
- 58:59double-check that, but there's a photo with you, and, And oh, and
- 59:04Brian, oh yeah. Well, yeah, yeah, okay.
- 59:14Okay, yes, we absolutely want to ask about is a resistance that's
- 59:17embarrassing for the wiki guys, that they somehow didn't list
- 59:20it, your Wiki pages. Yeah.
- 59:33Wow. I really thought that my my
- 59:36brain was broken that I was just misremembering, but it was not
- 59:39me. Well I guess that's nice to know
- 59:40but thank you for saying something that we asked 100
- 59:45people. Well, we are now okay.
- 59:52Alright, okay. So you spent a year and a half
- 59:55in the UK looking bringing back the Dark Crystal?
- 59:59Yeah. Which is super impressive that
- 1:00:01like I mean, you guys manage to, in my personal opinion, improve
- 1:00:05on the original. So, how did you like, just find
- 1:00:12that inspiration from the original movie and then create
- 1:00:14something new like, without Jim Henson sitting over your
- 1:00:18shoulder and telling you what's, what, Well, he kind of was
- 1:00:23because you watch the movie over and over and over again.
- 1:00:25You know, I mean, everything, is there everything?
- 1:00:27All the information that you need is in the movie and and
- 1:00:30I've, you know, I actually have You're talked a lot about this
- 1:00:35in podcast. So, you know, if you don't want
- 1:00:37to go into too much detail, there are certainly other
- 1:00:38sources for Dark Crystal stories, but I was just, I was
- 1:00:41just surprised that's all but yeah.
- 1:00:43It's Kathy Mullins performance is as Kira.
- 1:00:46Of course, is was the was the base document that you go to.
- 1:00:50And, and I avoid watched it so many times when it, when it came
- 1:00:55out and, you know, everyone comes into the Hudson, The
- 1:00:58Henson verse in their own way. Well, you know what?
- 1:01:02Has a favorite thing and a lot of times it has to do with, you
- 1:01:05know, what age, they were when they first saw something.
- 1:01:08But for me, it was always Dark Crystal.
- 1:01:11I mean, I love Muppet Show, I love Sesame Street.
- 1:01:14I was the wrong age for Fraggle Rock and even the wrong age for
- 1:01:17Labyrinth which was just a couple years after Dark Crystal.
- 1:01:19But that was my, that was my movie.
- 1:01:22And that was my project that I just loved on blood blood blood.
- 1:01:25And so it was, I was so thrilled.
- 1:01:31When I heard that it was happening, I was So
- 1:01:32disappointed, when I heard that it was going to England and then
- 1:01:36it came around and I mean I was devastated.
- 1:01:40When I heard that they were, she would never say because you
- 1:01:42thought that you weren't going to work on it.
- 1:01:44They said we're going to shoot it in England, English
- 1:01:46puppeteers. Just and that was.
- 1:01:49And it was, it felt it felt like a death almost.
- 1:01:56I mean, it was just so sad because I thought, you know,
- 1:02:00maybe I can just go and do a little pod.
- 1:02:02Somewhere sometime if they shoot it and I didn't know if they
- 1:02:05shouldn't. Then coover, she didn't Toronto
- 1:02:07wherever. But no, they wanted.
- 1:02:08Lisa wanted to go back to the UK, which I think was a great
- 1:02:12choice because the it's so informed.
- 1:02:18By the people who kind of people were involved the first time
- 1:02:24around. I mean, he still had Brian and
- 1:02:26Wendy and some of the some of the people that were that were
- 1:02:31part of the Really original project.
- 1:02:33And there they were doing it again and, and the crafts people
- 1:02:38had all just come out of the Harry Potter movies.
- 1:02:40And a lot of puppeteers have been doing Star Wars movies, and
- 1:02:43some Harry Potter and it was just that was just soaked in
- 1:02:47deep fantasy. World, craftsmanship, and
- 1:02:53techniques, and electronics, and electronics, and designers in
- 1:02:55the way. They would light it in the way
- 1:02:56that would shoot it. Like everyone knew exactly what
- 1:02:58to do. He just walked in ready and and
- 1:03:03it was, it was a really big thing to feel like you needed to
- 1:03:11Carrie part of Maine, you know, relatively small, part of, when
- 1:03:14you think of the fact that there are hundreds of people pouring
- 1:03:17their whole lives into this, for a year, you know, you're just
- 1:03:20one of those. But at the same time, there were
- 1:03:23a number of times, where all of that attention is being focused
- 1:03:28on right here, you know. And it's just, that's all.
- 1:03:32Yeah, it's a lot pointing it. And, and it was felt like a very
- 1:03:37big responsibility but one that I, that I felt that I felt ready
- 1:03:40for, I felt like that. That was the job.
- 1:03:42I've been preparing for all this time.
- 1:03:43I didn't know that, but I didn't, I didn't think that was
- 1:03:46ever going to happen and I didn't know that I Was preparing
- 1:03:48for that but then I walked in there I thought you know what I
- 1:03:51can do this. I'm ready and it was such a
- 1:03:53thrill, such a thrill. I loved it was every day of
- 1:03:56especially because those gelflings are there.
- 1:04:01So I mean like you say like there's a lot of close-ups, like
- 1:04:04there's a lot riding on them as characters, but there doesn't
- 1:04:08seem to be a whole lot of options for Movement.
- 1:04:11I know like these puppets seem to have a little bit more.
- 1:04:16I don't know. Flexibility or maybe it's just
- 1:04:18more animatronics in the head than the originals did for the
- 1:04:23original movie. But it was that like a
- 1:04:27particularly difficult challenge to like try to convey.
- 1:04:30A lot of emotion with what's basically more or less, a static
- 1:04:34looking puppet. Well, I first of all, I had the
- 1:04:39advantage of having the eyes myself and my left hand.
- 1:04:41So I had them blinks in the eye up down left, right?
- 1:04:45And a little controller in my left hand.
- 1:04:48So that was really, really helpful because when you have a
- 1:04:51second person there with a, you know, with a Futaba, a model
- 1:04:54airplane control, trying to keep up with a head movement and
- 1:04:56catch and I move in at the same time they're very good at it and
- 1:04:59it's very shockingly accurate with all the skeksis are done
- 1:05:03that way and a lot of the gelflings.
- 1:05:06There were a few of us that stubbornly insisted on doing our
- 1:05:11own, doing our own eye movements and head movements.
- 1:05:13And I think it was, I think it was effective.
- 1:05:15I think it was I just think it brings a certain Unity to, you
- 1:05:23know, just just having the eye and the head move together.
- 1:05:28Just sells it in a way that I think can't be substituted and
- 1:05:33then I did the same thing I did with squonk.
- 1:05:35I like just made sure that there was a lot of fluidity in it and
- 1:05:37just made sure that even even if there's not a lot of Bend in the
- 1:05:42whole situation, you know, you can still, you can still get a
- 1:05:46lot of motion. And why did I use that hair?
- 1:05:49It goes, it went everywhere. But everywhere that, you know,
- 1:05:57Limbs and head and torso couldn't bend or move, but boy
- 1:06:01that the hair translated everything every turn and every
- 1:06:04look, and I just used it. Use it, used it.
- 1:06:07So that was fun. What's it like for you to?
- 1:06:11Because you're obviously performing bribe, but the voice
- 1:06:15is being done by and your tailor Joy.
- 1:06:18So, What luck? Now granted, this is something I
- 1:06:22should probably know, but are you puppeteering to something
- 1:06:26she's already done? Or is she coming in afterwards?
- 1:06:30She wasn't cast until afterwards.
- 1:06:33Most of them were not cast, until the director had really
- 1:06:36gotten a chance to see how those characters developed is that he
- 1:06:39wanted. The cast the right person, for,
- 1:06:42as that as the as the show required at that point, and And
- 1:06:49I don't know if he'd had her in mind or not.
- 1:06:52Her career was really, I mean, it was already very prominent by
- 1:06:57then, but we hadn't seen the Queens Gambit or anything like I
- 1:07:00shouldn't have skyrocketed. Yeah and so I am not sure if
- 1:07:08he'd had her in mind or not and I'm not sure if today she'd even
- 1:07:11be able to find the time to do it.
- 1:07:12I just feel like we got really lucky that sweet spot in her in
- 1:07:16her career because I think she's wonderful.
- 1:07:17I think she's perfect and And so I acted all those teams live
- 1:07:23pradana scratch track and I fortunately was coached very,
- 1:07:29very heavily on what it seems by Louise gold who's such a fine
- 1:07:32actor and a lot of my scenes were with a lot of my most
- 1:07:36emotional scenes, were with Louise who plays praise mother
- 1:07:40the all madra. And so I really feel like, I
- 1:07:46feel like the feel like the acting was Is there.
- 1:07:49But then what what Anya Taylor Joy was able to do is if she
- 1:07:54needed more time, if she needed to take a beat if she needed to
- 1:07:57change the tempo of something, they would just cut to an over
- 1:08:00for a minute and they'd open the track and then they come back
- 1:08:03for the reaction shot and should continue the line.
- 1:08:05So they they edited and gave her a little more space to
- 1:08:07accommodate what she felt she needed to do as well.
- 1:08:10Yeah, so and of course improved You know, so much on some of the
- 1:08:18choices that I made I realized, oh, I ran through that line.
- 1:08:21She took a big pause in the middle of it and it's so much
- 1:08:23better. Kudos, I remember a certain
- 1:08:31specific spots, I can't come up with any off the top of my head
- 1:08:34right now, but where I realized, oh, she made a really different
- 1:08:38choice and I like it. There was nothing I disagreed
- 1:08:40with so happy with that. You also play the the ornament,
- 1:08:47excuse me, ornamental list, ask axis, which seems like, first of
- 1:08:52all, is a completely different set of skills than performing a
- 1:08:55gulf line. I'm curious how uncomfortable it
- 1:09:00was being inside one of those costumes and for like how
- 1:09:05difficult it was to play a character that technically
- 1:09:08exists in the original film, but not a whole lot like not quite
- 1:09:13enough. If to get a gist of like, who
- 1:09:16the character is and how to make it your own?
- 1:09:18Yeah, yeah. We didn't get a sense of who he
- 1:09:21she, it, they are. And in the, in the, in the
- 1:09:24movie. I mean, there's this wonderful
- 1:09:26little fussy bit with the but, but other than that, not, not
- 1:09:31really, and yeah, they made up wonderful backstories for all
- 1:09:36these probably skeksis. Yes, other than being able to
- 1:09:40keep up with your mouth and your hand.
- 1:09:41The skills are not related. At all.
- 1:09:44But I mean the mind her strapped to your chest and you're looking
- 1:09:48straight down is heavy. It's hot.
- 1:09:50It's disorient was going to ask those things were heavy.
- 1:09:53Yeah, yeah. And every time every time we got
- 1:09:58used to it and we were egging each other on.
- 1:10:00We were we were just really, really pushing each other all
- 1:10:05the time. And, you know, there's a whole
- 1:10:07lot of, if you can do it, I can do it going on and right and
- 1:10:13bye. By the time, we'd all gotten
- 1:10:15comfortable in doing the sort of normal sex scenes.
- 1:10:18Then suddenly we came in one day, and they all had armor on.
- 1:10:23They had these plates of armor and they had dresses and things
- 1:10:25like that. And so suddenly the quite a lot
- 1:10:27heavier, there's a heat wave, it was July and when we're in an
- 1:10:31older wasn't a Sound Stage, because we weren't rolling
- 1:10:34production sound. A lot of times when we're doing
- 1:10:36those scenes, we're doing these very intimate scenes in.
- 1:10:41There's construction. Going on, literally, 30 feet
- 1:10:44away, you know with with power tools and that because we're not
- 1:10:48getting production audio with all scratch track.
- 1:10:50Yeah. You'd be like weeping over the
- 1:10:53death of your mother and you'd hear a circular saw going right
- 1:10:56next to because they had. So anyway, so it was hot and it
- 1:11:05was heavy was often very, very loud.
- 1:11:07There was shooting those compost cannons up through the floor for
- 1:11:10the battle scenes. And, and just no, just when we
- 1:11:14felt like we'd gotten You know, we'd like gotten our arms around
- 1:11:18that with the armor on it, then they put those sort of
- 1:11:21intimidating flag things on those spikes that rose up out of
- 1:11:24the off of their backs and he particularly scary.
- 1:11:28And those were those were these thin metal, they were sharp.
- 1:11:31They Tangled in the trees, in the set, the set pieces that
- 1:11:35were hanging down and we had to walk under these trees.
- 1:11:37In those flags would get just, it was almost too much.
- 1:11:42Like you got to be kidding me. We got, can we cut the flags?
- 1:11:45You like, no, we're doing the flags.
- 1:11:47So we just, we just push through and we just did it.
- 1:11:52And again, we just kept saying, you can do it.
- 1:11:53I can do it earlier. We're 12 adults, and I think
- 1:11:56everybody at some point either cried or vomited or had a panic
- 1:12:01attack are all three like, it was a lot.
- 1:12:04It was a lot, I think, I think I threw my back out, just yank,
- 1:12:09that story, it sounds, but it was green like we did 12 that we
- 1:12:12loved it. We loved it.
- 1:12:16Was nobody could get enough. So, well, hopefully Netflix
- 1:12:21comes through their senses and and does another one or someone
- 1:12:28because my God, like the first of all, the full season, it's so
- 1:12:32good. It's so good.
- 1:12:34I'm also like the puppets are. Oh yeah, we loved it.
- 1:12:38The puppets are made like they're just sitting there
- 1:12:40waiting. Yeah.
- 1:12:41For someone to just Greenlight a second season and we got to know
- 1:12:45what happens next, you know, you know, we need to do it sir.
- 1:12:48It's a crime. Uncle states, that calms Uncle
- 1:12:52Steve hang on. Let me get him on speakerphone.
- 1:12:55I think Steve. Somebody somebody's going to be
- 1:12:57crazy enough to do it once a generation.
- 1:13:00Yep. No, that's that's and we'll get
- 1:13:03it. We'll get it again in another 40
- 1:13:04years and that's, that's just going to be.
- 1:13:07Well, I can't wait for it. Mmm.
- 1:13:10So it's going to be. I hope we read it until around 2
- 1:13:15to review it, or do a podcast about it or whatever the You
- 1:13:19know, 2060 version of podcast will be while we've taken up a
- 1:13:26lot of heat. I'm Alice, we end with a set of
- 1:13:29questions. This is the first episode of
- 1:13:31season 2. So we have brand-new questions.
- 1:13:34Oh God. So as quick as you like don't
- 1:13:37feel they have to expand too much.
- 1:13:40What is the food you hate every Cuts?
- 1:13:43Interesting. What is your go-to karaoke song?
- 1:13:50True Colors. Who could a choice?
- 1:13:54What is the sound of one hand clapping?
- 1:13:57There isn't one. now, I have a list here of 250 questions, if
- 1:14:04you could, please pick a number between 1 and 250, 157.
- 1:14:10Hell is this Jared? Oh God.
- 1:14:13This is a deep question. I wasn't expecting this.
- 1:14:16All right? What life lessons have?
- 1:14:18You had to learn the hard way, find the nicest guy in the world
- 1:14:23and Don't let go, I like it in. So the lesson is find Peter
- 1:14:31Lynch. Yes, it is a little too
- 1:14:37specific. That's all right.
- 1:14:41Now we know Lost episode last interview, episode least of this
- 1:14:45podcast, we had Bill and Jean Beretta here together.
- 1:14:48They both asked a question each without knowing who the guest
- 1:14:52was going to be Jean asked, why did you accept this invitation
- 1:14:55to be here? Oh because a because you guys
- 1:14:59are important, we respect and value and need your work and any
- 1:15:06way we can help or contribute their IQ and likewise, thank
- 1:15:11you, that's very kind. Then Bill asked who does your
- 1:15:15hair Oh, well during lockdown. It was aisle 12 at Walgreens,
- 1:15:23but I got to say that in general, I spend way too much on
- 1:15:28my hair and maybe I should just let it go.
- 1:15:30Great. Fair enough.
- 1:15:34And finally, with that knowing who it is.
- 1:15:35What question would you like our next guest to answer what
- 1:15:41musical instrument? Do not play but really wish that
- 1:15:44you could I like it. Excellent, that's a good one.
- 1:15:49Alistair question can't thank you enough yours delightful as I
- 1:15:53hoped you'd be and thank you for all the amazing work you've
- 1:15:57done. I feel like you know I wish you
- 1:16:00had like a main character. Because you know, you've been
- 1:16:04one of the I feel like background performers but for so
- 1:16:08long, I just feel like we need to, we need to give you one of
- 1:16:11the main ones so that everyone can just rally behind that
- 1:16:13character. I really appreciate that.
- 1:16:17I would love it if that did happen but I feel like Having
- 1:16:22done Brea. I feel I can die happy.
- 1:16:24Okay, fair enough Alice again, thank you very much.
- 1:16:30Thank you so much for having me, and thank you genuinely, for
- 1:16:33everything that you do to support all of this madness.
- 1:16:36Thank you.
