Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:02
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:05
Speaker 1: where he left off with a Darren Indyk transcript from
• 0:08
Speaker 1: his trip to Congress. Question, in addition to the defense counsel,
• 0:13
Speaker 1: did Mr. Epstein hire private investigators? Answer, I don't know
• 0:17
Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein hired private investigators. I believe the defense
• 0:20
Speaker 1: counsel hired private investigators. Question, who were the private investigators? Answer, sorry,
• 0:27
Speaker 1: Roy Black, I want to add to that. Roy Black
• 0:29
Speaker 1: was part of this as well. Question, why was, were defense,
• 0:34
Speaker 1: or I believe, were private investigators hired? Why were private
• 0:37
Speaker 1: investigators hired? Answer, not being a criminal defense attorney and
• 0:43
Speaker 1: not being participating at the time they did this because
• 0:46
Speaker 1: I came in, I didn't hear anything about the allegations
• 0:49
Speaker 1: until about 2006 or so. Many of the attorneys, much
• 0:53
Speaker 1: of the attorney's work had already been done by that time, including,
• 0:56
Speaker 1: I think, the hiring of private investigators. So the actual
• 0:59
Speaker 1: reason that they hired the private investigators as to why,
• 1:02
Speaker 1: I don't know. But I think my assumption at the
• 1:04
Speaker 1: time was that that's kind of what you do as
• 1:08
Speaker 1: a criminal defense attorney. You bring on a private investigator
• 1:11
Speaker 1: to find out information so that you can have a
• 1:13
Speaker 1: full idea of what you're offending. Question for the record,
• 1:17
Speaker 1: did you ever work with these private investigators? Answer, at
• 1:20
Speaker 1: some point I did communicate with private investigators, I think
• 1:24
Speaker 1: for payment, and I'm sure I must have had conversations
• 1:26
Speaker 1: at some point. In the process, not early on, but
• 1:29
Speaker 1: I just don't remember. Question, but you yourself, as far
• 1:32
Speaker 1: as the work that the private investigators were conducting, you
• 1:35
Speaker 1: didn't direct them? Question or answer for the criminal work
• 1:39
Speaker 1: that you're talking about, absolutely not. Question, and earlier you
• 1:43
Speaker 1: mentioned that you never socialized with the investigators. Answer, yes. Question,
• 1:48
Speaker 1: did Mr. Epstein ever invite you to social events? Answer,
• 1:52
Speaker 1: I was invited one time, and it was the only time.
• 1:55
Speaker 1: to not a social event with him, frankly, but it
• 1:57
Speaker 1: was a Victoria's Secret fashion show. I was invited one time,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: and that was the only time. I think I saw
• 2:03
Speaker 1: him there once, but I certainly didn't socialize with him there.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: And it wasn't just me. It was me, Jeff Shands,
• 2:09
Speaker 1: who I work with, so the attorneys were invited. But
• 2:12
Speaker 1: other than that, no, I was never invited to a dinner.
• 2:15
Speaker 1: I was never invited to a show. I was never
• 2:17
Speaker 1: invited to a movie or anything with him, no. Questioned,
• 2:21
Speaker 1: And I want to return back to the statement that
• 2:23
Speaker 1: you provided for Epstein's defense. Is it true that you
• 2:27
Speaker 1: made Epstein the godfather of your children? Answer, yes. It
• 2:30
Speaker 1: was an honorary appellation. I had no expectation because I
• 2:34
Speaker 1: didn't have that kind of relationship with him. But I
• 2:36
Speaker 1: wanted to show gratitude, do something to show gratitude for
• 2:39
Speaker 1: how he helped my wife and I have children. And
• 2:42
Speaker 1: so I asked him, would it be okay? And he
• 2:44
Speaker 1: wouldn't have any obligation to do anything but, you know,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: as a way of honoring him. and if I can
• 2:49
Speaker 1: make him honorary godfather, and I did so. Question, based
• 2:54
Speaker 1: on your testimony, your children did not have any relationship
• 2:57
Speaker 1: with Mr. Epstein. Answer, no, I think in total, they
• 3:01
Speaker 1: met him twice in the office, and they were very, very,
• 3:04
Speaker 1: very young at the time. My wife was there, they
• 3:06
Speaker 1: were in the office, I think two times. Question, would
• 3:10
Speaker 1: you have entrusted Mr. Epstein to care for your children? Answer,
• 3:14
Speaker 1: to care for my children? I wouldn't have trusted anybody
• 3:16
Speaker 1: to care for my children. Question, who is Ghislaine Maxwell? Answer,
• 3:21
Speaker 1: Ghislaine Maxwell was an associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Question, when
• 3:24
Speaker 1: did you first meet Ghislaine Maxwell? Answer, sometime after I
• 3:27
Speaker 1: started working representing the U.S. Department of State. As far
• 3:31
Speaker 1: as I can remember, I was working with Jeffrey Epstein
• 3:33
Speaker 1: when he was president and we became friends in 96. Question,
• 3:38
Speaker 1: and before the end of the war? Again, in the end,
• 3:41
Speaker 1: I had a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein that was a very,
• 3:44
Speaker 1: very positive relationship. In Dyke, and then he actually brought
• 3:48
Speaker 1: a couple of older people to my office, and they
• 3:50
Speaker 1: were very helpful to me. The households were managed properly,
• 3:53
Speaker 1: they were supplied properly, that the employees were doing the
• 3:56
Speaker 1: cleaning and things like that, that was my understanding of
• 3:59
Speaker 1: her role. I learned at some point that she had
• 4:01
Speaker 1: been a girlfriend of his, though I do not believe
• 4:03
Speaker 1: at the time that I was there, that she was
• 4:06
Speaker 1: a girlfriend of his. Question, and you mentioned that she
• 4:09
Speaker 1: would manage Mr. Epstein's properties. Did you ever understand her
• 4:12
Speaker 1: to have any role in arranging the scheduling, or scheduling masseuses? Answer, no. Question,
• 4:19
Speaker 1: she never talked to you about paying masseuses? Answer, no. Question,
• 4:22
Speaker 1: how often did you interact with Glenn Maxwell? Answer, when
• 4:26
Speaker 1: I worked in the office in New York City on
• 4:27
Speaker 1: Madison Avenue, she had an office there, so she appeared
• 4:30
Speaker 1: from time to time. She wasn't in my section of
• 4:33
Speaker 1: the office, but she was there, so I'd see her.
• 4:35
Speaker 1: I would say hello, that kind of thing, and it
• 4:37
Speaker 1: wasn't super frequent, but I saw her. Question, as far
• 4:41
Speaker 1: as your day-to-day and the legal services you were providing,
• 4:44
Speaker 1: did you have any interactions with her? Answer, at times
• 4:48
Speaker 1: I did, again. Most of my stuff was very specific.
• 4:50
Speaker 1: It was transactional. So there was times I believe, I
• 4:54
Speaker 1: believe Maxwell purchased a townhouse. So I did work for
• 4:57
Speaker 1: that townhouse, the purchase of that townhouse. I believe there were.
• 5:01
Speaker 1: She had me look at an agreement or two. I
• 5:03
Speaker 1: can't recall which agreement off the top of my head,
• 5:05
Speaker 1: but I believe she had me look at agreements or two.
• 5:08
Speaker 1: And sometimes she would convey requests by Epstein for me
• 5:11
Speaker 1: to do something. So I think that was kind of
• 5:13
Speaker 1: the transactional or corporate work for her. Question, and you
• 5:18
Speaker 1: mentioned the acquisition of property. This past week, we had Mr.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: Kahn testify, and he said that there were accounting work
• 5:24
Speaker 1: that he did for Ms. Maxwell, and she, and she,
• 5:27
Speaker 1: I don't want to mischaracterize his testimony, but said effectively
• 5:30
Speaker 1: that she didn't pay. Question, did she pay you for
• 5:33
Speaker 1: the work that you did for her? Answer, no, it
• 5:35
Speaker 1: was done, you know, to the extent I did work
• 5:38
Speaker 1: for her, it was at the office. That was the
• 5:41
Speaker 1: authorization of Epstein. Question, would you consider Ghislaine Maxwell at
• 5:45
Speaker 1: any point to be a friend of yours? Answer, no. Question,
• 5:48
Speaker 1: do you believe that Maxwell facilitated Epstein's access to minor victims? Answer,
• 5:53
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Question, Mr. Endyke, I
• 5:57
Speaker 1: want the record to be clear, so I'm going to
• 5:58
Speaker 1: ask you some questions related to the investigation of Mr.
• 6:01
Speaker 1: Epstein in 2005. When did you first become aware that
• 6:05
Speaker 1: there was an investigation into Mr. Epstein's conduct in South Florida? Answer,
• 6:10
  Speaker 1: I'm not entirely certain. I believe it was 2006, 2007, 2007. Question.
• 6:16
Speaker 1: And for the record, you didn't have any knowledge of
• 6:18
Speaker 1: the illegal activity by Mr. Epstein prior to his arrest? Answer.
• 6:22
Speaker 1: I had worked for him for a decade, and I
• 6:24
Speaker 1: had no knowledge of anything. Any allegations being made against him?
• 6:27
Speaker 1: Like that. Question. On October 20th of 2005, police executed
• 6:32
Speaker 1: a search warrant for Mr. Epstein's Palm Beach, Florida home.
• 6:36
Speaker 1: Do you recall that occurring? Answer. Yes. I don't think
• 6:38
Speaker 1: I knew contemporaneously Palm Beach detective Joseph McCrary spoke out
• 6:42
Speaker 1: about his belief. that Epstein was tipped off about the raid,
• 6:46
Speaker 1: since multiple computers expected to be at his house went
• 6:48
Speaker 1: missing when the search warrant was executed. Question, to your knowledge,
• 6:52
Speaker 1: did anyone tip off Jeffrey Epstein to the FBI? Answer,
• 6:56
Speaker 1: I don't know. Question, when you visited Mr. Epstein's properties,
• 7:01
Speaker 1: did you notice cameras? Can you specify which properties? Answer, well,
• 7:05
Speaker 1: you mentioned the Manhattan property at one point, sure, so
• 7:07
Speaker 1: let's break it down. The Manhattan property. My understanding about
• 7:11
Speaker 1: the cameras, that there were cameras, in the Manhattan property.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: My understanding is that there were external cameras. There was
• 7:18
Speaker 1: a security room, when you first walked into the right,
• 7:21
Speaker 1: that had monitors of the external cameras that were all
• 7:24
Speaker 1: around the perimeter, the outside of the townhouse. I later
• 7:27
Speaker 1: found out, and by later I mean, I think after
• 7:29
Speaker 1: things started to get conflated, but I think I found out,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: after he got arrested the second time, that there was
• 7:35
Speaker 1: one camera, and this was probably, even after he died,
• 7:38
Speaker 1: that he had one camera, he had a safe room,
• 7:41
Speaker 1: in the house, I didn't know that there was a
• 7:43
Speaker 1: safe room in the house, but he had a safe
• 7:44
Speaker 1: room in the house and the camera outside the safe
• 7:47
Speaker 1: room in the house. Those are the cameras that I
• 7:49
Speaker 1: knew about in New York. In Florida, there was much
• 7:53
Speaker 1: made about. I think it was in the press. A
• 7:56
Speaker 1: lot has gone on. Lots of reports have come out
• 7:58
Speaker 1: since then. But I believe the Florida reference to the
• 8:02
Speaker 1: cameras in his house. But there were cameras, as I
• 8:04
Speaker 1: understand it, that the police helped put in there because
• 8:07
Speaker 1: there was some concern that somebody was stealing from him.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: So they put the cameras in. I think in his
• 8:11
Speaker 1: desk on the ground floor, and I wasn't sure if
• 8:13
Speaker 1: there was maybe one in the garage as well. But
• 8:16
Speaker 1: those are the cameras that I knew about. Question, there
• 8:19
Speaker 1: have been allegations that Mr. Epstein would record visits at
• 8:22
Speaker 1: various properties. Do you know anything about that? Answer, I've
• 8:25
Speaker 1: heard allegations. I know of no recordings. I don't know
• 8:29
Speaker 1: of cameras that would be able to have done that. Question, Mr. Indyk,
• 8:33
Speaker 1: excuse me. The majority already has about five minutes, and
• 8:37
Speaker 1: I just want to make sure that the record's clear.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you numerous yes or no questions. First,
• 8:42
Speaker 1: how did Mr., or this is not a yes or
• 8:44
Speaker 1: no question, how did Mr. Epstein act towards the young
• 8:47
Speaker 1: women or girls that he surrounded himself with? Answer, the
• 8:51
Speaker 1: question assumes that I saw him surround himself with young
• 8:54
Speaker 1: women or girls. It's not true. Question, did you ever
• 8:57
Speaker 1: witness Mr. Epstein engage in sexual contact? Answer. I never
• 9:02
Speaker 1: witnessed Mr. Epstein engage in sexual conduct. Question. Did you
• 9:06
Speaker 1: ever witness Mr. Epstein have sexual conduct of any kind,
• 9:09
Speaker 1: young women or girls? Answer. I never witnessed Mr. Epstein
• 9:12
Speaker 1: have sexual conduct, period. Question. Did you ever witness Mr.
• 9:16
Speaker 1: Epstein sexually abuse or assault young women or girls? Answer.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: I never witnessed that. No. Question. Did Mr. Epstein ever
• 9:24
Speaker 1: discuss sexual acts of any kind with you? Answer. No. Question.
• 9:29
Speaker 1: Was it common for Mr. Epstein or Ms. Maxwell... to
• 9:32
Speaker 1: bring young women or girls to any other place where
• 9:35
Speaker 1: the two of you meet? Answer, the only women that
• 9:38
Speaker 1: were ever in my presence to my recollection, with one exception,
• 9:41
Speaker 1: I'll get to that in a second, were women who
• 9:43
Speaker 1: were either in their twenties and their thirties who were assistants,
• 9:47
Speaker 1: who were, I understood to be, personal assistants of Epstein.
• 9:51
Speaker 1: He said you had an exception. I'm sorry, and the exception,
• 9:54
Speaker 1: the exception is, he had a goddaughter, and I don't
• 9:57
Speaker 1: know that I feel comfortable giving her name out, but
• 9:59
Speaker 1: he had a goddaughter. that I believe I had seen
• 10:01
Speaker 1: from time to time, that I met from time to
• 10:03
Speaker 1: time a couple of times. I think because she was
• 10:06
Speaker 1: there when I was in his home, in his dining room.
• 10:10
Speaker 1: She had come into the dining room, just to be clear. Question,
• 10:13
Speaker 1: did Mr. Epstein have children of his own? Answer, to
• 10:16
Speaker 1: my knowledge, no. Question, did Epstein or Maxwell ever ask
• 10:20
Speaker 1: if you wanted them to bring women or girls to you? Answer, never. Question,
• 10:24
Speaker 1: did you ever have any sexual contact with young women
• 10:26
Speaker 1: or girls in the presence of Epstein or Maxwell? Answer,
• 10:30
Speaker 1: absolutely not. Question, did you ever have sexual contact with
• 10:33
Speaker 1: any young women or girls introduced to you by Epstein
• 10:36
Speaker 1: or Maxwell? Answer, absolutely not. Question, did you ever witness Mr.
• 10:40
Speaker 1: Epstein receive a massage from a young woman or girl? Answer, no. Question,
• 10:45
Speaker 1: did you ever receive any massage from a young woman
• 10:48
Speaker 1: or girl, brought to you or introduced to you by Mr.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: Epstein or Maxwell, answer no, question, we'll go off the record.
• 10:55
Speaker 1: All right, folks, we're going to wrap up right here.
• 10:57
Speaker 1: And in the next episode, we'll pick up where we
• 11:00
Speaker 1: left off. All the information that goes with this episode
• 11:03
Speaker 1: can be found in the description box.
