- 0:23of you multiple nerdgasm your guide to
- 0:28all things
- 0:34nerdy Matt um have you seen a movie called The Avengers Age of Ultron I have
- 0:41of course uh seems like the kind of movie
- 0:44you might like am I right yeah I didn't dislike it it's not my it's not my
- 0:51favorite movie but I got 10 minutes in and turned it off really and I rarely do
- 0:56that H but for starters the whole opening shot is like something out of a
- 1:02bad video game from 5 years ago it's just like ridiculous geometry everyone's
- 1:08doing wacky [ __ ] and having one liners and I'm like I don't remember the
- 1:11Avengers being I remember the Avengers being a bit better than this right it
- 1:15was all a bit a bit silly and then they
- 1:19get in and about 20 or 30 Iron Men fly in and I was like I have missed
- 1:26something haven't I like I'm supposed to have watched some other one of the
- 1:31peripheral movies stop doing that cuz why are there so many Iron Men that's
- 1:36Iron Man 3 and I haven't seen it either but I Iron Man 2 was so [ __ ] yeah I know
- 1:42that I didn't watch Iron Man 3 so I turned it off okay because I I had no
- 1:48interest and I'm still not really sure what power Scarlet Johansson has she
- 1:53seem to just be a chick in a suit she's uh she's a highly trained assassin
- 1:57highly trained is not a superpower everyone else there's a [ __ ] Hulk you
- 2:01know there's a God From Another Dimension and then there's just a chick
- 2:06who's highly trained a cop basically yeah not good yeah there's I mean
- 2:09there's a few characters like that I don't know what hawkey's power is as
- 2:12such either I mean he's very very good with a bow and arrow but how did he get
- 2:15that good is he just also highly trained I'd say he's super humanly good though
- 2:20he moves pretty fast so maybe he's a mutant but we're not to call him that in
- 2:25in The Avengers because of copyright mutant well Fox own owns the
- 2:31mutants and uh they do speaking of mutants all right so Thursday I watched
- 2:38Age of Ultron and then Friday to wash the disgusting taste out of my mouth I
- 2:45went along and saw Deadpool which I know you have also seen ah I have and I think
- 2:49you'll agree Deadpool is [ __ ] awesome I absolutely do agree and I personally
- 2:56also would agree it's a better film than Age of Ultron well I hope so mat I hope
- 3:00we can at least agree on that look I'll go back to Age of Ultron down the track
- 3:04when I've seen enough of the other shitty movies that this shitty movie
- 3:07will make sense you can follow but uh Deadpool was a breath of fresh air and
- 3:13uh and it made fun of those other movies that I've kind of tired of lately I
- 3:19think now is a really good time for Deadpool to come out because it does
- 3:23kind of parody the whole you know superhero takeover of Hollywood yeah you
- 3:29know every film well not every film obviously but well I can think we can
- 3:32say a vast majority right we get there at least four or five superhero films
- 3:37every year now right and it's just accepted now that the tent pole movies
- 3:41from every Studio are going except for Universal who don't have any superhero
- 3:45licenses um are going to be superhero movies yeah there's a new Spider-Man
- 3:51origin coming I mean for [ __ ] sake yeah they're making another one uh can't
- 3:55we just now go okay look everyone has seen one of the Spider-Man origin
- 4:00stories now let's just make movies about Spider-Man apparently there's they've
- 4:05licensed him for a crossover into an Civil War he's going to be in in the new
- 4:09Captain America so that's going to be interesting but are they going to recast
- 4:12for that or are they going to cross over cast as well no it's a new guy the guy
- 4:16who's it's the guy who's going to be in the Standalone film I guess but we don't
- 4:19need another origin for Spider-Man for [ __ ] sake we know who absolutely so
- 4:22hopefully I don't what is it confirmed that it's another origin cuz [ __ ] off
- 4:27like yeah I believe so we don't need it you know what they should do this is
- 4:31what I would pay to go and see they should pay those guys to who made
- 4:35Italian Spider-Man to do an Italian Spider-Man movie and have it be Cannon
- 4:41you know have it have it be a legitimate Spider-Man movie I watch the [ __ ] out of
- 4:47that I agree CU that was great well Deadpool sort of crosses over into the
- 4:53parody territory so yeah so for those who don't know Deadpool is a Marvel
- 4:58character who is sort of uh he's a little bit different because he he kind
- 5:04of makes fun of all the other characters and in the comics he makes fun of the
- 5:06comics themselves and he does a lot of stuff like talking to the reader and you
- 5:10know breaking the fourth wall as they call it and he does a lot of silly stuff
- 5:15the film continues that into into the film realm he's got sort of a typical
- 5:20superhero backstory but it's a little bit I guess more interesting than we
- 5:24used to I would say I found it more interesting well I mean his girlfriend's
- 5:28a prostitute so for that's interesting he's a mercenary but
- 5:32not in a not in a military kind of he was a special ops Soldier they mentioned
- 5:37that but that's not what you see him doing you basically see him trying to
- 5:40make money on the street by he goes and roughs up a kid who's been stalking this
- 5:44girl at school or something like that and he that's how he makes his money MH
- 5:47so he's he's not a he's not a superhero he's not a superhero at all actually no
- 5:51I would say No in fact he's he's pretty much only motivated by revenge or cash
- 5:57so I would not call that a superhero although Batman's mostly motivated by
- 6:01Revenge too but true we forgive him cuz he does some side jobs yeah just to be
- 6:06good looking after people yeah but Deadpool does not look after people
- 6:10unless it's no he does not through a sequence of events obviously he um he
- 6:15gets Powers he's not a superhero but he gets powers and he becomes Deadpool kind
- 6:20of just a mercenary I guess and uh he's out for revenge and it's funny because
- 6:24in one of the comics from the early 2000s uh somebody described
- 6:30Deadpool as looking like Ryan Reynolds cross with a Chihuahua right and then bam Ryan
- 6:36Reynolds I got to say he was great in it and I know that he loves the character
- 6:40and he really fought to get this film made so I'm glad I'm glad that it worked
- 6:44out well because you know I love Spider-Man and if I was fighting for
- 6:49ages and managed to get a Spider-Man film made where I played Spider-Man I'm
- 6:53not sure it would work as well as this did oh man I would watch the [ __ ] out of that
- 6:57M that would be so good and I've seen you in a Spider-Man costume yeah yeah
- 7:03listeners if you want to see me in a Spider-Man costume go to our YouTube
- 7:06channel and look up it was it called complaints yes complaints yeah yeah yeah
- 7:11which was real responses to real complaints yeah so and that's what we
- 7:15think of your complaints people if you ride in with complaints this is what we
- 7:18think of you yeah and yeah you'll spot me in the background in a Spider-Man
- 7:23suit we should make that happen Matt we should find out how to make that happen
- 7:27we should write a story cuz you know Spider-Man the whole thing
- 7:31is he's like a teenager he's getting younger and younger all the time really
- 7:35I know he's a child in the next one it's a kid from Enders game I think holy [ __ ]
- 7:40I mean I'm assuming he's a couple of years older than Enders game but even so
- 7:43yeah he's going to be an infant before long but we should go the other way do
- 7:47what Doctor Who did and yeah and flip it around so it's like it's like the um
- 7:52kingdom come but in the Marvel Universe and it's an aging Spider-Man you know
- 7:59and uh it's you it's played by you all right let's make that happen all right
- 8:05that can be your next film I've decided for you 100% that can be my next film
- 8:10cuz after watching Deadpool I dead set decided I'm not interested in making any
- 8:14film that's not a Dopey action comedy because that is just it just has to be
- 8:19my favorite genre but I mean so many things about this movie was so good like
- 8:24it's [ __ ] hilarious um the acting was all was great the action was great all
- 8:30the action scenes were were really good yeah they were great and even when it
- 8:34went over the top it wasn't like Age of Ultron over the top right it's not
- 8:40mind-numbing it's just no that's right he's very very skilled but he doesn't
- 8:45break the laws of physics right no it's great go see it listeners go see oh man
- 8:51you got don't take your kids to see it don't make that mistake imagine that oh
- 8:55Jesus there was a kid we went and saw it up here at um at the Cinemas in Orban
- 9:01and it was pretty packed cuz it was opening night and his these parents came
- 9:03in and there was a kid and I was like you [ __ ] serious yeah yeah a kids
- 9:08movie it is not absolutely not and apparently Ryan Reynolds did a TV spot
- 9:13where he said please don't take your children to see
- 9:17Deadpool I hope they don't water it down in the sequels because I know like this
- 9:23has done so well I I almost guarantee I had to sit in the front row and I
- 9:27pre-booked tickets like it's it was packed so I'm assuming they will green
- 9:32light a sequel based on just the opening week but no they have they already also
- 9:36see the studio oh they have of course so I can also see the studio going but if
- 9:41we're putting a lot of money into the sequel we have to double the reach of
- 9:44the first one which means we're going to have to aim for a PG-13 instead of the r
- 9:50right well do you know the story of how this got made no okay you know the the
- 9:54other The Wolverine film with with Deadpool in it Ryan Reynolds played
- 9:58Deadpool in that and it was terrible and it was not Deadpool it was just they
- 10:01just called this shitty character that he was in at Deadpool yeah Wade mhm yeah
- 10:06he started out kind of like it was going to be Deadpool but then it kind of went
- 10:10off the rails so that was that movie was kind of panned and Ryan Reynolds as a
- 10:16big fan of the character got together with the guys who wrote this and the
- 10:20director for for for Deadpool and they said oh man are we really it would be
- 10:24great if we could make a real Deadpool movie you know like the way that it
- 10:28should be and so they shot a bunch of test footage and showed it to Fox and
- 10:34fox said I don't know man like it's doesn't look like a superhero movie I've
- 10:39seen no kind of superhero movie I've ever seen before not sure the kids are
- 10:42like this uh and so it kind of got sheld for a couple of years and then in an
- 10:47interview recently um they talk because it got leaked the test footage leaked
- 10:51online and people went bananas for it and said oh really [ __ ] you've got to
- 10:55make this movie and then in an interview the other I think on Jimmy Kimmel or
- 10:58something recently Ryan Reynolds said yeah yeah you know one of us leaked it
- 11:02uh I don't know I'm 70% sure it wasn't me but who knows you know somebody
- 11:08leaked it online and um oh that's magnificent so yeah and so based on the
- 11:13response Fox were like fine here's some money and now wait so what you're saying
- 11:19is that I can watch this test footage online yeah of course yeah yeah yeah
- 11:22holy [ __ ] all right we got to we got to put that in the show notes because I
- 11:25want to [ __ ] see that and I'm sure other people do who haven't seen it yet
- 11:30okay yeah no there's some test it's uh it's kind of like you know the main kind
- 11:34of set piece where the action on the highway really yes that that kind of
- 11:38deal with effects and stuff uh I think limited you know what it's been a long
- 11:42time um this watch this straight after
- 11:46we record cool yeah no and so that's how the film got that must be just looking
- 11:52back at photos of Ryan Reynolds in that
- 11:55abysmal Wolverine movie yeah like if he he was a Deadpool fan and his agent said
- 12:01to him yeah they want to cast you in a Wolverine movie you play a character
- 12:05called Dead Pool he must have been like [ __ ] it Hallelujah like this is [ __ ]
- 12:11my dream right um it'd be like if they cast you and Spider-Man or me and I
- 12:16don't know [ __ ] me as Robin Hood right yeah that's my dream if you're
- 12:22listening Studios and um cuz we know they steal from us constantly they do so
- 12:29these ideas coming next summer mattam is
- 12:34Spider-Man and you're like they haven't spoken to me yet
- 12:39what's going on [ __ ] apparently it's a given well I did I did say I'd do it so
- 12:44yeah yeah exactly but just like he must
- 12:48have been so disappointed that this is how they were doing it yeah because it's
- 12:54[ __ ] awful it's a like the movie is just shitty overall and then that
- 12:57character is just it's not dead well he he makes a lot of fun of Hugh Jackman in
- 13:03this Deadpool movie in a in a nice way in hilarious ways yeah did you see Hugh
- 13:08Jackman tweeted a photo of a framed picture of Deadpool just on his on his
- 13:13table oh really yeah yeah I thought it was pretty funny so he I mean he seems
- 13:18like a cool guy I guess so he's obviously okay with the joke I don't
- 13:23think he takes [ __ ] Wolverine any more seriously than Royal R right exactly
- 13:29yeah yeah I mean I first saw Hugh Jackman live on
- 13:36stage in the Beauty and the Beast musical where he played
- 13:40geston you know yeah I think he just does the Hollywood thing to get paid
- 13:45yeah and he's just a a theater Pon the rest of the time that's funny we're
- 13:50talking actually the other day about how vgo Morton you know from Lord of the
- 13:55Rings and and you know numerous other films he's quite he's a very good actor
- 13:59trying to accomplish actor yeah acting is just his hobby he's a he's actually a
- 14:03musician and he also um he owns a horse ranch and he just does acting for fun oh
- 14:09Jesus Christ that's great and you know he only did Lord of the Rings because his kid
- 14:16told him to really yeah so they had already cast Simon Town's end you know
- 14:21the guy who played stat in Queen of the Damned so they' cast him started filming
- 14:26and then realized he's too young he doesn't look right doesn't look like a
- 14:30hardened Warrior yeah so um they approached vgo and uh he was like to his
- 14:36agent no what's the name of this character no no no no interest in this
- 14:41[ __ ] hung up and then just said to his son oh they wanted me to play some
- 14:45[ __ ] Knight or something in some [ __ ] King and Queens movie and he
- 14:50said like what was it he's like oh it's Lord of the Rings and his son was like
- 14:54Dad you're [ __ ] doing this yeah I think everyone's glad he did
- 15:00speaking of casting Deadpool does have a
- 15:04uh nice evil British villain yeah yeah
- 15:08and uh Ed screen who people probably
- 15:12know if they remember uh played Dario narus in only one season of Game of
- 15:17Thrones before they recast him for some reason what uh wearing a terrible
- 15:23wig you remember that I didn't even no I don't I don't even know who that
- 15:28character is yeah yeah he's the the warrior dude who ends up boning uh
- 15:34kisi what just Google Ed screen SK r i n
- 15:40Game of Thrones and you'll see him in a in a terrible cone in the Barbarian
- 15:45wig [ __ ] it is that guy yeah yeah wow there you
- 15:52go yeah and he got he did he did look a
- 15:56little larger than life he did stand out a bit in that in that series but I think
- 16:01they just did him wrong cuz he's a good actor that's right and then yeah it was
- 16:06some other guy later yeah just like a normal looking dude that you just would
- 16:10not believe [ __ ] kisi would sleep with at least this guy was like a big
- 16:15[ __ ] dude but I saw another Ed screen movie this
- 16:19week on a plane during a 31-hour flight
- 16:24from Singapore to [ __ ] Utah Jesus um and that movie is the transporter
- 16:30refueled okay and Ed screen plays the transporter he's the new transporter and
- 16:37um I'm not going to say I'm not going to say this is a good movie but it's pretty
- 16:43[ __ ] entertaining I would say that about well I don't know all of them I
- 16:47liked no maybe all of them the first Transporter movie is genuinely good yeah
- 16:52I agree I like it yeah the second one [ __ ] the second one was uh the third one
- 16:58was all right I think the second one was the worst of them yeah agreed I think
- 17:02yeah ref this one it's like yeah you know it's they they're actually saying
- 17:07that it's a reboot in the title now why can't they just give stuff
- 17:12normal names you know who started this Tim Burton oh yeah Batman Returns I
- 17:16remember when they announced the title was it's going to be Batman Returns and
- 17:18I was like what yeah that's right do you know what it's funny that you mention
- 17:23that because I still remember the exact situation where I learned that it was
- 17:28going to be called Batman returns you want to hear a weird story just as a
- 17:31segue of course I do do you remember a
- 17:34TV game show from the 80s or no early '
- 17:3890s I guess in Australia called the main
- 17:41event yeah of course yeah okay and they had a panel two panels of uh
- 17:48celebrities and they had a live studio audience and they also cut to home
- 17:53viewers who in like a mad minute at the end had to answer questions for each
- 17:59team MH my mom took me and my brother to be part of the studio
- 18:05audience for the main event and uh it was Georgie Parker was the captain of
- 18:11one team Jim moan was the captain of another team right funnily enough cuz I
- 18:16worked on Jim Owen's show like 25 years after that yeah but
- 18:21um one of the questions was is the sequel to Batman called
- 18:26Batman 2 or Batman Returns the being of but I was just sitting there going wait
- 18:32what what what go back there's another Batman coming out that was the first
- 18:37time that I was aware that there was going to be a Batman sequel cuz
- 18:40obviously at that point 10 years old Batman was just like the best movie ever
- 18:45yeah of course yeah no it was literally it was the film that got me interested
- 18:48in film which is kind of an odd choice I guess but that's really because when you
- 18:53know the craft that Tim Burton puts into his movies especially back in those days
- 18:58like did you have that Batman book it's about A4 size still got it Dan you still
- 19:03got it [ __ ] yeah man it's on my bookshelf that's awesome but it shows
- 19:07you the models and it shows like Tim Burton like kneeling down in the Gotham
- 19:11City streets and stuff like that like I [ __ ] wore the pages of that thin by
- 19:16just going [ __ ] this is how you make a movie this is awesome it's on my
- 19:20bookshelf right now that's R sorry I've totally segwayed away from the
- 19:26transporter but that's all right the only thing I want to say about it is
- 19:28that this sums up the movie for me right so the transporter is driving off right
- 19:35I think it's out of a car park and he he holds up so you know it's a shot through
- 19:40the wind screen he holds up a remote control presses it and all the cars
- 19:45behind him blow up right so he's driving away from all these explosions then he
- 19:51throws the remote control out the window into a garbage bin that he passes and it
- 19:58blows up yeah yeah so if you just want [ __ ]
- 20:03explosions a hot dude in a suit and hot chicks everywhere this is a movie for
- 20:07you all right also I think Luke might be here are you recording Luke I'm started
- 20:13recording all right do you want to count us in again we'll do a reboot somebody
- 20:16else has uh infiltrated the podcast we've got a special guest joining us
- 20:22today hey guys I I I made it just took me an hour you uh took his sweet time
- 20:27today Luke we even doing this earlier there was a problem with
- 20:32Skype well you know what it worked out fine because we've already discussed
- 20:36Deadpool and you haven't seen it yet ah awesome yeah so it's kind of perfect so
- 20:40Luke is being taken to Deadpool tonight as his Valentine's Day present yes yeah
- 20:46so you'll enjoy it Luke it's great it is that's all we'll say a love story isn't
- 20:51it it is a love story it is yeah it's a tender that is a fact love story and if
- 20:55you love movies that feature a man with a tiny
- 20:59hand then this is for you oh my god tiny hand is so funny you're going to laugh a
- 21:05lot Luke yeah you are as Matt said yesterday if you see this movie and
- 21:11aren't laughing out loud there's something wrong with you cuz there's
- 21:14nothing wrong with this movie I genuinely believe that it's hilarious
- 21:19yeah um well we were talking about casting a minute ago uh not spells but
- 21:26actors and I saw a weird casting announcement this week yes that I'd like
- 21:32to discuss just briefly yeah agreed um the new alien film it's actually the
- 21:38Prometheus sequel It's now called alien Covenant and it is the beginnings of
- 21:43actual proper prequels to the first alien apparently yeah uh now Stars
- 21:48Michael fasbender and Denny McBride now I had to Google this to reassure myself
- 21:54that there wasn't just some other actor called Danny McBride that I was getting confused
- 22:00Kenny yes it's the comedian Danny McBride and don't get me wrong I [ __ ]
- 22:05love Eastbound and Down like it's hilarious [ __ ] love but I can't see
- 22:11how he's going to fit into an alien movie unless he's the comic relief has
- 22:15he played anything straight before I don't know good question I'm going to
- 22:19Google it right now is here well here's the question is he going to be playing
- 22:22something straight in this film where Ridley Scott gone old and scile
- 22:27yeah maybe he thinks Kenny Powers is a real
- 22:33person he wants him there to motivate the
- 22:36cast yeah well I mean and this might be might be great because he I think he's
- 22:41probably a good actor I mean I think a lot of comic actors are good actors cuz
- 22:46it is a skill like I was actually talking to Jenna the other day about I
- 22:50think um um Borat oh yeah Sasha Baron Cohen I can't stand him yeah I think
- 22:55he's actually he's a really good actor uh because I feel like you know a lot of
- 23:00people maybe don't like the style of Comedy but to do that to be Borat and to
- 23:04be Bruno like yeah takes chops and yeah and to not break character when people
- 23:11are saying this insane [ __ ] think it takes a lot of skill I even go back I
- 23:15one of my favorite actors was a comedian John balushi oh yeah and he can pretty
- 23:19much do anything yeah that's true yeah he'll do anything you'd let him do
- 23:23anything yeah definitely yeah he will literally do any drug now over and over until he
- 23:30dies another great actor Chris Farley John Candy while we're naming fat
- 23:37actors who died no no that is literally my no no but I I
- 23:43genuinely love Chris fary but he's not he's not a great actor he's he's a he's
- 23:47like a one trick pony but I love that pony yeah me too me too fat guy in a
- 23:53little jacket that is that is his one thing and he he's just was the best at it
- 23:59we got it on know what I'm saying no you
- 24:02didn't oh so good and a horrific death I got to say cuz you know he died in a
- 24:08like an ice cream store or something didn't he what had a heart attack oh
- 24:12[ __ ] I remember dying I don't remember how yeah no I think let me fact check
- 24:16where it was exactly but I'm pretty sure he died in public and the way that in my
- 24:20head ice cream everywhere death was [ __ ]
- 24:27hilarious yep yep no that's absolutely not true he
- 24:33was found dead by his younger brother in an apartment I wish I hadn't look that
- 24:36up [ __ ] ice cre where you getting [ __ ] from so you
- 24:41just got him like falling around the ice cream store ice cream going everywhere exactly he
- 24:46he people not knowing if he was doing a bit or actually dying in my head he was
- 24:51in an ice cream Stu he had a heart attack yeah and he was like trying to
- 24:54eat the ice cream while he was having a heart attack and like
- 24:59I die I will finish this cone oh my
- 25:05God yeah you're imagining you're Imagining the coffee Crystal sketch but
- 25:10with ice cream that is literally he's dying that is literally what I was imag
- 25:16I apologize David Spade if you're listening I'm really sorry I know he was
- 25:19your best friend David was so distro by Chris Farley's death understandably that
- 25:25he didn't even go to the funeral he could not accept that he had died and I
- 25:28find that heartbreaking that sucks man yeah this I mean I mean there's a
- 25:32comedian who's not really a great actor no no I like I was going to say I don't
- 25:36I'm not a big fan of his his comedies but I feel like yeah that's that would
- 25:41have been rough and I yeah feel for him on that but yeah Chris Farley man what a
- 25:44guy uh he's not starring in Alien Covenant sadly cuz he's dead but Danny
- 25:48McBride is Danny McBride I mean there's always a bumbling idiot in all the alien
- 25:54movies maybe he's playing that maybe he playing not yeah I I hope he's either in
- 26:00an animatronic alien suit yeah or I hope he has said he still has a mullet no
- 26:07matter what he's doing I'm not of imagining him with the mullet it's just
- 26:09occurred to me that they could change he could not have the mustache and not have
- 26:13the mullet and it would you know I don't I don't know I've ever seen him without
- 26:16them so I don't I'm not sure he exists without them
- 26:20yeah yeah but yeah I don't know the accent's probably fake too I don't know
- 26:26he's probably just a normal dude who can act in anything he probably loves Alien
- 26:30movies because he's our age yeah do you know what I what I
- 26:34realized so just just jumping back to Deadpool and this doesn't give anything
- 26:38away it's not about the film itself but it's just occurred to me recently
- 26:42watching a number of films in dead pools included that the people making movies
- 26:46now are our age because growing up I used to see movies with cultural
- 26:51references from 10 years before you know stuff from the' 70s or or whatever but
- 26:56now the references in movies are stuff we know about because they're
- 27:02our things so it's it's like our generation has finally come of age and
- 27:06is now in Hollywood making movies see I wonder about I mean again this is not a
- 27:11spoiler for Deadpool but it's got a lot of jokes that are time sensitive yeah in
- 27:17a way yeah like it because it makes fun of a lot of in
- 27:21particular like say superhero films that were not very good yeah I think Deadpool
- 27:25is so good that it'll the test of time better than some of those other films
- 27:30but then in the future when people watch Deadpool are they going to be like what
- 27:34[ __ ] movie is he talking about yeah because they're the ones that are just
- 27:37going to Fade Into Obscurity yeah like like green lanon and X-Men you know
- 27:41Wolverine Origins they're going to be like what what oh those those I've never
- 27:45seen those because I missed the start of the whole Deadpool thing have we
- 27:48discussed how we might see some more um rated movies come out uh we haven't did
- 27:55you want to you have inside know good point Luke this is the first superhero
- 27:59movie that's uh that's narrated and it's done it's broken records for the highest
- 28:04grossing weekend for an narrated movie I the first one since Dolph Len's Punisher in the
- 28:1080s which which was not a success Dolph lungren but yeah hopefully yeah now
- 28:15they're sort of setting it up that their adults will watch and will pay money and
- 28:19there's a market there for it so yeah cuz the problem is most of the time
- 28:23they're not even really concerned about box office money they're concerned about
- 28:27Merchant dice money and they know they're not going to sell as many toys
- 28:32for Deadpool as they would you know for SPID man but people will buy shirts Our
- 28:38Generation buy T-shirts correct man but like kids buy [ __ ] everything big
- 28:45money pop vinyl things well see I I will probably buy one of those pop vinyl
- 28:50things of Deadpool now do you know what I mean like I think Deadpool's my guy
- 28:53he's he's the superhero that represents me as a person sure yeah I know so he
- 28:58might be my my like one guy that I buy everything from yeah Spirit hero yeah
- 29:05that's right yeah no I just was thinking about that today and hoping that maybe
- 29:09yeah we see some bit more that's bit more adult oriented well do you reckon
- 29:14that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie that they've green lit is going to be R-rated
- 29:18I have a feeling that they might pass on the AR I like to think that it would be
- 29:22go straight for porn hardcore porn I mean obviously I'm hoping it's going to
- 29:27be some kind of gritty crime thriller or something but
- 29:31imagine that what the [ __ ] are they going to make a movie about Sonic the
- 29:35Hedgehog rings I reckon like he was engaged um and like kind of the crow
- 29:40style his wife was murdered the night before their wedding and um her
- 29:45engagement ring is missing and he has to track it
- 29:48down I just could they Sonic is dead
- 29:53unfortunately like I with a huge Sonic I was in the Sega Nintendo War I was on
- 29:58Sega site sure I was a huge Sonic fan he hasn't released a good game in 20 years
- 30:05well Sonic Rush on the DS was pretty good but yeah I know what you mean not a
- 30:08main you hasn't been a mainstream success yeah in video games like I don't
- 30:14know they're not making a Call of Duty Sonic the Hedgehog oh my God imagine
- 30:20just imagine that but I mean can we like this is a liveaction film this is not a
- 30:25CG film like they make this clear in the article this is doesn't say that he as a
- 30:29character won't be CG no I know that but he's going to be like Smurfs it's going
- 30:34to be like a Garfield or a Smurf oh I hope it's nothing like Garfield okay no
- 30:38no no I'll stop you there well Smurfs maybe but I mean Garfield or say like
- 30:43the Ninja Turtles right they're set in the real world with with a silly
- 30:47character or you know like the Ninja Turtles whatever Smurf and the Smurfs
- 30:51had their own world where angry Jews wanted to boil them down for gold right
- 30:56but that that is the Smurfs film actually live action or is it just a CG
- 31:00no I think it's live action C characters oh okay got Neil Patrick
- 31:05Harris in it and then the Smurfs jump over him that's all I know of the movie
- 31:10galliver Travis style is he gagam what no I think he's the good guy in it oh
- 31:15okay I haven't seen it he could be gag for a while actually from memory I think
- 31:18it's Hank aaria as G A gagam oh okay he's all right he's that guy that looks
- 31:23a bit like Jeremy Irons and does voices on The Simpsons correct wow they've
- 31:27really really gone on for this a horrible Jewish stereotype done as a
- 31:31cartoon is bad enough but honestly Google Hank aaria gagam [ __ ]
- 31:38hell that's offensive let's hope it'll be better than that what the [ __ ] is it going to
- 31:44be about like Dr Robotnik who's who's now called Dr Eggman what apparently
- 31:49yeah no they changed his name a while ago he's now Dr Eggman why why was Dr
- 31:53Robotnik not good Dr Eggman is a [ __ ] stupid name mhm Robotnik is I know he's
- 32:00OV in shape but right it just removes any kind of Menace that he may have had
- 32:05yeah like Dr Robotnik sounds like a bad guy hello I'm Dr Eggman and I look like
- 32:10an egg like I think it was because they they were really going for a young
- 32:16audience when they started to change the name and go to the cartoons and
- 32:19everything dud I was eight when I was playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr Robotnik was
- 32:26fine my okay okay even as a kid all right the villains are the most
- 32:31interesting part of any story for me the
- 32:35villains Absolut more interesting and to call him Dr Eggman even as a child I
- 32:41would have been like that's not very interesting Dr
- 32:46Robotnik robots he Robotnik like no good Nick he's like a bad guy like it says
- 32:53something about him all Eggman says is he's
- 32:56ovular and I could see that exactly yeah
- 33:01yep anyway hopefully this will be good it won't be it won't be it won't be such
- 33:07a weird thing to do I'm really surprised if they actually go ahead with making it
- 33:11because it just seems who's going to go see this hey I've just done a quick
- 33:16little Google and I can explain why they've changed it oh okay very simple
- 33:22in Japan he was always called Dr Eggman oh when it was first translated into
- 33:27American they went with something a bit more dramatic and then as they
- 33:30streamlined it just went back to what it can be the same worldwide fine yeah less
- 33:36interesting than you want it to be but uh that's actually makes sort of sense
- 33:41and yeah fine well I won't be watching that one
- 33:47unless for some reason it comes out and everyone's like [ __ ] you wouldn't
- 33:50believe it Sonic it's like it's up there with it's like the new Deadpool yeah
- 33:54that's right Sonic's up there making fun of all video game characters and [ __ ]
- 33:58yeah do you guys remember did I ever show you this when I was like 10 and I
- 34:03used to have um Sr the Sega radio a little local radio station and we had a whole running
- 34:09segment week to week where Tails was suing Sonic for um Mal treatment on the
- 34:16set of um Sonic 2 right Matt do you have capabilities to
- 34:23capture from cassette tape audio cassette tape to digital if I could get
- 34:27a cassette player yeah I definitely do I I'll see if I can get it captured we'll
- 34:31put it on the specials Channel somewhere down the track sweet that would be great
- 34:35just a quick update on uh Star Wars news which probably doesn't warrant the
- 34:39jingle so maybe we could just have a short version of the jingle inserted
- 34:43starss thank you for that they've started shooting episode 8 officially
- 34:46that's great well is it because not great well I haven't had any phone
- 34:51calls yeah that's true I mean and I guess they they've decided to go ahead
- 34:55with uh Mr Looper as the Director that's definitely true but I mean I was I
- 35:01thought I was fairly explicit on the podcast I will play anything in this
- 35:05film right so I don't know it's just for them to not call at all that is a bit
- 35:11bit rude really isn't it yeah it's a bit insulting so I think so we're going to
- 35:15boycott Star Wars from now on or yeah I think listeners if you could just if you
- 35:20could just burn all your Star Wars merchandise oh you know what don't I
- 35:23don't want you to have to do it just send it all to me and I'll burn it l already uh you
- 35:28missed this but we've we've kind of we're trying to leak some ideas to
- 35:33Hollywood via the podcast because our ideas are always right um yeah the next
- 35:39Spider-Man movie is going to be a Spider-Man movie where Spidey is
- 35:42approaching middle age and um doesn't know if he can keep up the superhero
- 35:46stuff and guess who's going to play Spider-Man yeah have a guess he's got a
- 35:49beard could be any anyway good is it is it you
- 35:53m it is yeah yeah y so we're putting that out there right well you've already
- 35:58done your work as Italian Spider-Man yes yes that's true too yeah they've seen me
- 36:03in the costume yeah yeah it's always been my dream to be Robin Hood right
- 36:07since I was like five years old I'm trying to push for a Robin Hood movie
- 36:11where I Star as Robin Hood not really sure what the gimmick is more than happy
- 36:14for it to be just one more generic Robin Hood movie but where I get to play it
- 36:18right that's fine so Luke take this opportunity what is what is your like
- 36:23dream character to play that we want to float to Hollywood now well they've
- 36:27already said they're going to make it but they haven't cast anyone yet inste a
- 36:29Robotech live action of course now I wouldn't want to be recant
- 36:35would wouldn't mind him being Max okay don't know who that is but let's make it
- 36:39happen anyway he's one of the other Pilots he wasn't the main guy okay oh
- 36:44that's just like you to let someone else stand in the spotlight you just St to
- 36:48the side back was the best fighter
- 36:51pilot so so he's like po po de of
- 36:55exactly like Po that same cocky awareness of himself they'll just get
- 36:59Oscar ISAC to do it then if he's exactly like Po yeah yeah but they'll just
- 37:03they'll just change the he had blue hair oh oh yeah yeah yeah you could do blue
- 37:07hair I can you could pull that off do you reckon you could have blue hair in
- 37:11time what I'm really worried about is the scene where Max takes his shirt off
- 37:14and he's got a whole bunch of Star Wars tattoos that's just going to be confusing for the
- 37:19plot let me look up what Max looks like robot Tech and we'll link to this obviously on
- 37:26we'll post on the Instagram we do a comparison right we should do all of
- 37:29them right we'll do a series of of the character and then us in the role
- 37:35absolutely oh yeah Max is cool yeah yep I was imagining like spiky blue hair but
- 37:41he's he's got like a like a beetles cut you know what I had this action figure
- 37:45oh nice this is the dude with the glasses right it is yes oh it says here
- 37:50um in keeping with the Japanese they're going to change rootech to egg
- 37:55Tech Robotech Egg Robot
- 38:01egg wow this is so 80s man I'm going to watch this all again oh watch it it's
- 38:06still great do you have a costume Luke not yet but I am going to get one one
- 38:11day are you going to get one in the next few days so you can take a photo of
- 38:13yourself in it probably in the next not next few days let me Google and see if I
- 38:16can find one yeah we'll figure something out maybe we can maybe maybe I can
- 38:20Photoshop one yeah or get the white white jacket I'm sure you've got
- 38:24something I'm going to have to you probably got a better chance than me
- 38:27getting a [ __ ] Robin Hood thing together but I'll try we'll figure
- 38:30something out yeah so um Luke I think he should be bearded and he should have a
- 38:35Blue Beard as well uh I can I can do that yeah I'm prepared to make sacrifices for the
- 38:40movie Luke do you happen to know if Robo is on Netflix it's on YouTube oh okay
- 38:47well that's fine well it used to be anyway it was like every single episode
- 38:51was available free on YouTube okay not officially yeah no officially oh really
- 38:57yeah I seem to remember that they did it oh this was like years ago but sure I
- 39:02remember when more of that happened before they cracked down I watched two
- 39:06seasons of scream Queens on YouTube oh speaking of copyright um yeah
- 39:12we don't have to talk about this too much but did you see this uh business
- 39:16about happy birthday yeah I did so for for a very long time uh happy birthday
- 39:22if you go to a restaurant generally speaking I don't know if Australia
- 39:25really gave too much of a [ __ ] but I maybe I just never noticed but if you go
- 39:28to a restaurant uh and they sing Happy Birthday to you they don't sing Happy
- 39:32Birthday they sing a birthday song that generally they made up or some other
- 39:37thing like in in public generally businesses don't use the Happy Birthday
- 39:42song correct because Warner Warner
- 39:45Chapel uh owned the copyright or so they told everyone they claimed that was
- 39:51copyrighted in 1935 and uh and they own the copyright so people have been and and if you
- 39:57wanted to use it which people have on occasion um they've been paying him
- 40:02royalties to for the for the right to use it um and there was a documentary
- 40:07made uh about the song because it kind of a bunch of evidence came up that
- 40:12suggested that the song predated all that and and it was it should be in the
- 40:17public domain because you know there's a song from yeah 19 kicking around as a
- 40:22traditional song before Warner claimed copyright on it right in in the 19th
- 40:27Century there was a song called good morning to you which was good morning to
- 40:31you good morning to you I'm allowed to sing it now because it's not copyright
- 40:35that's right in fact I've seen a Betty Boop not Betty Boop Little Lulu cartoon
- 40:40from like the 20s where there's a school scene and and students sing that to
- 40:46their teacher good morning dear teacher good morning to you I should have
- 40:51testified as a uh as an expert witness pop culture expert well there's a
- 40:55documentary made and then based on that some evidence that was Unearthed uh
- 40:59during the making of it like some old sheet music and some stuff the copyright
- 41:02has been overturned and uh Warner Chapel is now being forced to pay back $14
- 41:09million in uh in royalties that they collected on the song just before we go
- 41:14off see you have they finalized all this [ __ ] um I'm pretty sure yeah they have
- 41:19to make a they have to make a settlement it's been it's over 10 that's right okay
- 41:22the thing about copyright that just [ __ ] bugs me right is that at its
- 41:28heart copyright law protects artists
- 41:32right yes but in reality it just limits
- 41:37artists because you should not be able to copyright [ __ ] happy birthday the
- 41:43whole point of copyright was that everyone was building on other people's
- 41:48things and other people were making more money than the original artist and and
- 41:52that wasn't good you know so when El Frank bour wrote The Wizard of Oz
- 41:58somebody else wrote a Wizard of Oz sequel that was unauthorized and made a
- 42:02bunch of cash on it that the Frank bom didn't see that sucked so copyright laws
- 42:07came in to say okay for 10 years after you write something only you can use
- 42:13that then y everyone can use it and that
- 42:17was fine but now it's G [ __ ] crazy with corporations like Warner holding on
- 42:24to copyrights of things they have no business and you know who I blame for
- 42:28this I don't think you should be able to sell them on correct 100% yeah the mouse
- 42:33the [ __ ] Mouse Walt Disney changing copyright laws so that long after his
- 42:39death Mickey Mouse will never lapse into the public domain yeah they keep every
- 42:45time the the copyright time gets up to
- 42:49the end Disney throws a bunch of money at changing it so that it's extended and
- 42:54so we now have this Perpetual copyright cuz it used to be if you wanted to make
- 42:58a tazan movie you just had to wait till 10 years after the first one you could
- 43:03make a tazan movie that's why there's cthulu everything because HP Lovecraft
- 43:07is very popular and it's so old that it's not covered by the new copyright
- 43:12laws so that it's public domain now and as somebody who like you know I make
- 43:17music and I you know we make this podcast and we write you know film
- 43:20related thing I I kind of consider myself creative we we make we make stuff
- 43:25we do you know and 10 years is pretty good I I Reon I'd be all right with that
- 43:29yeah well I as I said like I just think it's a real problem when you sld the
- 43:32copyright and then people who really had nothing to do with the product and now
- 43:37making money off it or suing people there was that really good one that
- 43:40happened a while ago um Men at Work the Down Under oh God yeah absolutely they
- 43:45were sued because they had the part the start of their song had something that
- 43:49their Girl Guides had actually come up with what the Girl Guides didn't sue
- 43:54they' sold on the rights to it and the company that brought it went we're going
- 43:58to do Men at Work far out man well I don't understand how that works or why
- 44:05that works yeah exactly right it's that's not that copyright's not
- 44:08protecting the artist you should not be able to buy a copyright correct that's
- 44:12it goes against everything that copyright which literally means the
- 44:16right to make copies did you see actually we this I think this was in a
- 44:19spreadsheet last week and it didn't get moved forward but the the the um the
- 44:23Fine Brothers did you see this attempting to cop well copyright prend
- 44:27to patent or or maybe copyright the format of their videos the reaction
- 44:32videos where they film people reacting to things yeah so they give a bunch of
- 44:36kids you know like an original Game Boy and then the kids are like huh where do
- 44:39you put the you know the internet connection kind of you know sure like
- 44:45what this cassette tape you know where what are the headphones plug into it I
- 44:49mean don't get me wrong that sounds awful I would never watch that some of
- 44:52them are funny but uh they didn't exactly come up with that what was the
- 44:57first reaction video you can remember seeing the first one I remember seeing
- 45:02was two girls in one cup yeah yeah that's that's where I saw
- 45:07reaction video Start well they tried to copyright the their format and they made
- 45:12they even and then what happened was they um they left very vague yeah they
- 45:18said they were copyrighting reaction videos and then they issued takedowns to
- 45:21a bunch of other YouTube videos uh and then everyone was like
- 45:25what the [ __ ] are you doing that doesn't come under copyright that sounds more
- 45:28like a patent is that right cuz copyright copyright is on a specific
- 45:33work a specific I that's why I wasn't sure was copyright maybe they were
- 45:36trying to patent the format they were really trying to do was basically
- 45:40franchise their work going hey guys you can do what we're doing you can have the
- 45:45same format the same like visuals and everything but we take a cut of the
- 45:49money they were just trying to franchise their yeah they made a video explaining
- 45:52it but they weren't I mean I gotta be honest like when you sit down and look
- 45:56at it I think what they were trying to do was not not that bad but they were
- 46:01just really awful at the way they went about communicating it and it just made
- 46:04them sound like a bunch of [ __ ] like to be honest yeah it seemed like they were
- 46:10just trying to stop everybody from from making money off a thing that they
- 46:14didn't really invent yeah that's right and and it's kind of there's still a bit
- 46:17of a communal aspect to the internet I mean everyone understands that if
- 46:20something's comes from a studio or something and gets put on YouTube then
- 46:24that's obviously a real thing that you're not supposed to [ __ ] around with
- 46:28but the internet and specifically YouTube is made like it's like if
- 46:33somebody tried to copyright unboxing videos and it's like no I just bought a
- 46:37new camera and I'm going to make a [ __ ] unboxing video cuz that's my
- 46:40right as a citizen of Earth yeah like there was this community
- 46:44of people on YouTube we're all making these videos this is all great and then
- 46:47somebody and then one person in the group goes oh you guys yeah you can't
- 46:51make that video that's my video also you got to give me a bunch of money now and
- 46:54everyone turns and looks at them and like what yeah
- 46:57like that's what happened Sony's trying
- 47:00to copyright let's play yeah you know
- 47:05they you know what they can trademark the phrase let's play if for some reason
- 47:10they have claim to that but they cannot patent [ __ ] talking over a video
- 47:16game yeah I think what they're trying to do it might be trademarking the word or
- 47:21something because everyone uses let's play if they can get hold of the word
- 47:26and have that and incorporate into their stuff but that's only ify can it's just
- 47:31a description of what's happening in the video if that's only if if they could
- 47:35prove that they said it first and that it was a trademark then it's it's not
- 47:39let's play isn't really like a a name it's like a description of what happens
- 47:44in the video it's a type of video sure yeah yeah it's a weird one it this whole
- 47:49thing reminds me a bit of um back in the I guess the ' 80s when uh everybody was
- 47:54writing software for computers and Bill Gates started started sending letters
- 47:57around to everybody saying don't stop giving your stuff away for free we
- 48:00should be charging people for licenses for this and then everyone was like [ __ ]
- 48:05off and then look how that turned out I don't know I think it's a reaction to
- 48:08the fact that there used to be this thing with musicians and and you know
- 48:14film and TV content producers and and
- 48:18other artists in air quotes that you got to a certain level and you got paid the
- 48:24big bucks for that and that kind of doesn't happen now because of the
- 48:28democratization of the media through the internet where it's kind of like if you
- 48:33want to go down that route you have to uh either fit into the media landscape
- 48:38as it exists now or just be doing it for the love of it but you're not going to
- 48:42make any money yeah I listened to um Jamie Jer who is the singer for the
- 48:48metal band heat breed he has a podcast where he interviews a lot of other uh
- 48:52singers and or just metal musicians it's very metal focused but it's really
- 48:57fascinating to hear people from bands that I grew up listening to like Rob
- 49:02Flynn from Machine Head talking about how much they have to [ __ ] around and
- 49:08struggle to make ends meet these days because nobody wants to go see a a live
- 49:13show and the only decent tours they can do now are these festivals because
- 49:18people are used to just paying 100 bucks and getting to see like you know 500
- 49:22bands that they like they don't want to go pay to go see one band so he said
- 49:27basically they had to say no we're not doing festivals anymore um we're going
- 49:31to go do shows in cities and if not enough people buy the tickets we're
- 49:34going to cancel the shows he goes because I have to eat food yeah like we
- 49:39just can't do it anymore and it's so strange to me that I I know they're not
- 49:42a big band Machine Head but like you got you know you've heard of them right Mach
- 49:46yeah even I know of them right well they I mean they they don't have much money
- 49:52you know and even even um Dave mustain from Mega Death right who who is I would
- 49:58say one of the most famous people in
- 50:02medal Metallica but Meade is a huge band yeah Meade are a big band and even he
- 50:08says they can't afford to for for things like CU you know Soundwave got canceled
- 50:12here because there was a bit there was a whole bunch of drama and a lot of bands
- 50:15were really really hurt by it because they booked flights and stuff that were
- 50:19non-refundable and then and it all fell apart and then it was just really
- 50:23interesting to hear that like yeah that that kind of
- 50:27could actually destroy a band these days yeah yeah cuz they just don't have any
- 50:31money yeah yeah and it's kind of counted to the argument where you know people
- 50:35say oh [ __ ] I'll just download it because you know they they've got heaps
- 50:38of money they don't no that's right they really don't yeah they absolutely unless
- 50:42unless it's like Taylor Swift or you know kane west or some of these you
- 50:47know five people at the top yeah they they they don't have any money and and
- 50:53also like Taylor Swift right she she does is Rich like there's no no way you
- 50:57can deny that but she's also an EMP employee of Emi or whoever she signed
- 51:02with you know what I mean and she just has to [ __ ] do whatever they say like
- 51:05it's not like go to the days of [ __ ] like lad Zeppelin Rockstar millionaire
- 51:11do what the [ __ ] you want yep like that's that's over yeah what what do we
- 51:16want to do for this album we'll just do whatever the [ __ ] we want exactly kind
- 51:19of no way doesn't happen so I'm I follow um John Crosby on Facebook we're
- 51:25Facebook friends and he's uh he's the guy behind vast if
- 51:30anyone remembers vast from the '90s and onwards but you all stopped listening
- 51:34after the90s exactly [ __ ] love that song so um
- 51:40sorry that's probably copyright well I I don't think he'd care to be honest he's
- 51:44put all his albums on his own he ditched his record label put all his albums on
- 51:47his own website he charges five bucks for him he's like look you can afford to
- 51:51buy $5 worth of an album and I get5 whole dollar for this album instead of
- 51:58do it that way the sad thing is heing on a newb now and I know that because he's
- 52:02putting a whole offf on eBay like he's selling guitars he's selling amps and
- 52:08you can you know that every time he does that he's trying to fund a new album and
- 52:12it's like well I mean you know this this guy wasile example big back in the day
- 52:17yeah a high-profile example of that is Trent resar I mean he's he's obviously
- 52:22he's fine financially but he almost wasn't uh and that kind of kicked him
- 52:27off into into what he's doing now that's mostly because he spent most of his
- 52:31money on drugs yeah well and he said that his his manager and everybody kind
- 52:36of ran off with all more money and all this kind of stuff he he got screwed
- 52:39over in the in the late 90s and but he managed to turn it around and now he's
- 52:43very vocal about [ __ ] the record labels [ __ ] you know all that stuff you need to
- 52:47look after yourself um but he's they do the same thing they sell the gear after they do a
- 52:53big tour yeah like he's I mean maybe not so these days cuz he's kind of revamped
- 52:59the way the whole band exists yeah that's right um but they yeah they were
- 53:03selling a bunch of stuff on eBay and um
- 53:06and yeah I know it's just H paying directly to an artist like through band
- 53:12camp or something these days I think is great I think the way they do films now
- 53:17through Kickstarter say is interesting but it's a little bit scary because it's
- 53:22not a tested business model yeah that's right yeah it's
- 53:27scared of it but then again but then again the old ones don't work either so
- 53:31what does it really matter we need to find the middle ground when all
- 53:35everything started artists made nothing true and then we went the other way and
- 53:41artists made an absolute Fortune we need to find a middle ground where yeah
- 53:45they're sort of making enough to live but they're not yeah it can still be
- 53:50that many people out there yeah well there's companies like um uh I can't
- 53:57remember the name of his company used to be called band happy Matt Halper who's
- 53:59the drummer from a band periphery who I love one of my favorite bands he started
- 54:04a thing and a whole bunch of other bands um got involved with it he called it
- 54:09band happy and what it basically meant with the band tours right so say when
- 54:13periphery comes to Australia you jump on to the band happy
- 54:16website and you can book lessons guitar lessons or drum lessons or whatever with
- 54:22members of the band wow and so so they rather than just coming over and doing a
- 54:27tour and then hopefully breaking even at the end they can supplement that a bit
- 54:33by doing you know like they'll come over here while they're here yeah oh that is
- 54:37amazing yeah isn't that great have you done that I did a lesson with um TOA
- 54:42Abasi from Animals As Leaders when they were at here I did a guitar lesson with
- 54:45him through that yeah it's great right cuz a I got to meet toen which was
- 54:49[ __ ] amazing that gu [ __ ] jam with mindblowing yeah exactly I got I've got
- 54:53to play his um his new ivanz uh custom he's new one he's got a new one now but
- 54:58the previous one and like up it was up on the stage in in the in the Metro it's
- 55:02just it's cool right because it's awesome for me cuz like I said I
- 55:06wouldn't I would never have got to do that any other way and it's great for
- 55:10him cuz he made a bunch of money there's there's like 10 of us there sat around
- 55:13just chatting with him he's like oh what do you want to know oh how do you do
- 55:17this [ __ ] insane solo and then he does it it's like well I can't do it but
- 55:20just let me watch you do it again yeah CU that was cool [ __ ] that's
- 55:25great great that that is good like that's that's cool but it's also a
- 55:30little scary that people in a [ __ ] successful touring band also are still
- 55:35music teachers to do that well that's the thing yeah that's it's sobering if
- 55:39you're interested in that kind of thing I recommend you check out uh it's called
- 55:42um the Jer show it's Jamie Jer if you don't like ha breed I mean that's fine
- 55:47but it I think the show is worth it anyway because he talks to like he talks
- 55:51to Dino from Fear Factory for example you know like Fear Factory was a big
- 55:55metal band in the '90s right and they're you know they're struggling now and it's
- 55:59just it's just very it's interesting man as a musician you pretty much have to
- 56:03just try to make as much money as possible and get it into some good stock
- 56:09you know yeah and he says like every podcast they talk about stuff and then
- 56:13at at one point Jamie says all right so I know people feel like maybe I'm I'm
- 56:17bringing this up too much but I really just want to talk to like talk to you
- 56:20about the business and stuff and like how you're bringing in the money and he
- 56:24said and people have said to him oh it seems like you're all about the money
- 56:26like yeah no people [ __ ] need to think about this [ __ ]
- 56:29like people think that we're up here just you know riding around in limos and
- 56:34smoking cigars and you know it's like I want people to know it's not like that
- 56:38yeah yeah it's not like that anymore no
- 56:42it was yeah yeah it's not
- 56:47anymore yeah but I AG great a lot of artists made far far far too much money
- 56:52for what they had to do yeah yeah like work six weeks a year make $40 million
- 56:58oh the other thing actually I mean maybe this is too much music industry talk but
- 57:03I I'll try and keep this brief but you know there's a lot of stuff on the
- 57:05internet now about how stuff like Spotify and and all those streaming
- 57:09services are ripping off the artists
- 57:11yeah but I think you'll find that it's
- 57:17artists that are on a big label right because what happens is the the label
- 57:23gets less money and therefore the artist get it's like no money mhm whereas if it
- 57:28was just artist directly with Spotify like in my case I've got some albums on
- 57:33Spotify right yeah and I mean I'm not making a fortune but I'm making more
- 57:36than nothing and and there are bands like if you're a if your band's doing
- 57:41well you can make money on there the way it works isn't thing that you just get paid on a
- 57:47certain amount of listens yeah and there is a weird
- 57:50there's a weirdness that that people are complaining about too where the money
- 57:55the royalty money for SP ify goes into a
- 57:56big pool and gets distributed based on
- 58:02various things but it's well because a subscription base it's hard to tell what
- 58:05people are actually paying for right yeah and there's a discrepancy between
- 58:12um the quality of a listen as well
- 58:16apparently so um you know like if you if you go on there if someone listens to
- 58:22your um if you put out an new say right so you got one song on there right and
- 58:27and and a million people listen to that song yep or one person listens to it a
- 58:33million times yeah those are not equal yeah yeah and then so it's Unique plays
- 58:39sort of apparently there's some algorithm behind it and it's a bit
- 58:43controversial okay well I can understand it cuz you if you got paid off the one
- 58:47person you just get your friendship can you please playing this song and repeat
- 58:51for me over there so I can make money so I can understand it being a unique play
- 58:56type of thing because the argument is if a million different people are all
- 58:59listening to it that's you should be getting more for that than one person
- 59:04just listening to it on repeat so and then I don't know it's a bit it's all
- 59:07bit weird so well no I can see that because a million people are paying for
- 59:13a subscription so that's they've got a million people paying them the $10 a
- 59:17month to come and use their service so that's why they would pay a million
- 59:20dollars worth of listeners but if one person's doing it Spotify is only making
- 59:25like $10 a month so yeah that doesn't work yeah yeah yeah okay that's fair
- 59:30point but but again the main thing I was going to say is just remember when you
- 59:32when you read a lot of stuff about you know artists saying they don't they only
- 59:36get like 0.00001 Cent from a play on Spotify I think generally you'll find
- 59:42that's an artist who's on a big label and the reason they're getting that much
- 59:45is lab's taking the label's taking it and also it gets distributed between
- 59:48songwriters and and all this kind of [ __ ] and there's a lot of behind the
- 59:51scenes stuff that an independent artist doesn't have to worry about and so when
- 59:56somebody like Lady Gaga complains that she's not getting paid enough that's not
- 1:00:01the same as as a struggling independent artist the the struggling independent
- 1:00:06artist is better off under the new model than someone like Lady Gaga and I think
- 1:00:10that's probably a good thing yeah personally personally so consider that
- 1:00:15[ __ ] consider that so who he is an Assassin's Creed fan H can't say I'm a
- 1:00:21fan so just me then yeah it's just you I me I've played some I like the first one
- 1:00:25I've played I like the first one okay was Syndicate all right Syndicate was
- 1:00:30actually quite good that was really a return to form for them after the last
- 1:00:33couple okay that's the only one I'm really interested in playing no
- 1:00:37definitely give that one a play okay I downloaded the China Chronicles oh yeah
- 1:00:41play it a bit I really like those Chronicles those the Sid scrolling
- 1:00:47platformer yeah yeah I'm more I'm probably more interested in that than
- 1:00:51it's all about time frame too I mean I remember the when they had the Victorian
- 1:00:56one you know Matt was pretty psyched about that I don't know maybe if they do
- 1:01:00like [ __ ] I don't know Colonial Singapore maybe I'll get that
- 1:01:05one well they we w't know cuz they're taking this year off okay to work on the
- 1:01:10colonial Singapore that's great um the rumor is they're working on
- 1:01:14the Egypt one oh okay right Egypt could be
- 1:01:19cool yeah I mean if they said they're taking the year off I mean that that's
- 1:01:24obviously just from um mainstream ones also they're not taking
- 1:01:28the year off they're they're just not releasing any yeah they're not releasing
- 1:01:31they're just not working for a year knock yourself out uh they've Chronicles
- 1:01:35India came out this year so and Russia came out this week as well yeah so they
- 1:01:40I mean that I think they just mean the main you yeah yeah their main Assassin's
- 1:01:45Creed title that comes out every year that's not happening um and what they
- 1:01:49said is they are going to try and spend more time once the game is finished
- 1:01:55making sure it's actually finished yeah they're going back to Unity on that one which was
- 1:02:01terrible when it came out and before they even fix it they announced a new
- 1:02:05game was coming out I might have to get Chic India actually this looks pretty
- 1:02:09good I don't know I just like seeing I haven't played foreign places do you
- 1:02:13play a character called sanjed McCurry yeah I assume you do no well I don't
- 1:02:18actually forget who you play also just to be clarified that's I'm not just
- 1:02:22generically being racist there that's a that's a it's an in joke if you're a new
- 1:02:25listener I apologize that's a that's just joke from ever apologize for our
- 1:02:29jokes man okay sorry I'm sorry for explaining a joke these Assassin's Creed
- 1:02:35uh s scrollers remind me quite a lot of the old Prince of Persia games which I
- 1:02:39love which I I [ __ ] adored those they're one of the first games I
- 1:02:43remember playing yeah right Prince of Persia I remember having the loading up the old
- 1:02:49amrad yeah putting in the discs and did you have that operating system where you
- 1:02:53had to type run and then the um
- 1:02:56quotation marks and then write dis to
- 1:03:00play a disc yeah pretty much that's why kids these days are soft [ __ ] yeah
- 1:03:07you just put it in it plays you don't have enough to put anything in now yeah
- 1:03:10know that's right oh have have you heard about this internet is upset of course
- 1:03:16it is there's an Xbox One game coming out Quantum break yeah mhm and it's a
- 1:03:21Microsoft exclusive okay well everyone believed it was an XBox One exclusive
- 1:03:25but Microsoft will comeing out and gone hey guys we got some pre-order bonuses
- 1:03:29for you you pre-order it we'll give you the old Allen weight game we'll give you
- 1:03:33spinoff for that um also if you buy it on the Xbox One you get it on the
- 1:03:37Windows 10 for free MH mhm Microsoft that's fair that's still a Microsoft
- 1:03:43exclusive as far as I'm concerned yep no people no you're
- 1:03:48destroy you're getting rid of Xbox because of this you just want to focus
- 1:03:51on PC now and you're lied to us and well hold on hold on cuz I read this article
- 1:03:57and I'm actually confused right and I guess this goes back to what my mom used
- 1:04:02to say when like my brother had a lollipop and I didn't or whatever and
- 1:04:05she used to tell me just because he has something you don't have doesn't mean
- 1:04:10you're any worse off than you were before you noticed he had it
- 1:04:14right so I don't quite understand I mean these people it's not like they cannot
- 1:04:20play it on Xbox one right no yeah and it's not like they have to wait to play
- 1:04:25play it or anything like that it's just that PC players will also be able to
- 1:04:30play it at the same time and if you actually go back to the whole console
- 1:04:34war thing it's not Microsoft versus Sony
- 1:04:38and PC it's Microsoft versus Sony Nintendo yeah so this being a Microsoft
- 1:04:44exclusive for them to release it on the Xbox and PC that's still an exclusive in my books
- 1:04:51yeah yeah correct [ __ ] off shut up but actually I don't know if you read the article but
- 1:04:57I actually went and read more about this crap gamer guy oh right the guy who's
- 1:05:02been complaining loudest yeah and the one that Phil Spencer actually responded
- 1:05:06to and he's also it was not nice the way Phil Spencer responded to me making out
- 1:05:10like I was the villain here and they were missing the point I was just upset
- 1:05:15cuz Microsoft lied to us and it's what was the LIE what was the lie crimey that
- 1:05:22it was an XBox One exclusive but now it's coming out on Windows right who
- 1:05:28cares even if it was an exclusive you still get to play it yes so strange that
- 1:05:34like people give a [ __ ] about that kind of thing it's pett very Petty actually
- 1:05:39you should be happy if you're someone like me and cuz a lot of times the Xbox
- 1:05:43version and the windows version have different achievements yeah they be
- 1:05:46getting paying once for the game and getting two sets of achievements it's
- 1:05:49great but that's just me how are you going in your competition by the way oh
- 1:05:54this week I'm going great so I just get you an update my team has
- 1:06:00actually stepped up a little bit this week good about [ __ ] time um we are

- 1:06:10achievements have you personally got this week uh this week I got
- 1:06:1586 for a gamer score of yeah for a gamer score of
- 1:06:202,788 86 achievements this week yeah did you go to work at all had to slow down
- 1:06:27yeah I went to work I've had to slow down though because I don't want to get
- 1:06:31lots of achievements now for on that I could be getting next week God imagine
- 1:06:36that common mistake imagine thaton mistake disaster sorry L that is a ridiculous
- 1:06:41achievement that's great yeah you've just unlocked an achievement on this
- 1:06:48podcast that's all right I I I will be at I'm hope I will probably be at
- 1:06:53300,000 by the end of uh next week [ __ ] hell I'm

- 1:07:34February yep can you keep this up my
- 1:07:37team my team will be out by
