- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land, Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Paychecks, I'm out and this is
- 0:14Speaker 1: two break Checks, the show that shares life lessons and
- 0:16Speaker 1: tips to make you rich in life. And we are
- 0:20Speaker 1: back in the studio. Mock is in hand, fruit salad consumed,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and we're ready to rock and roll.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:27Speaker 3: My obsession of the week is a post that I
- 0:30Speaker 3: saw on Data but make it fashion, and it's four
- 0:34Speaker 3: signs that we're heading into a recession. According to Fashion,
- 0:38Speaker 3: When popularity of maxi skirts is up three hundred and
- 0:42Speaker 3: ninety three percent, apparently shorter hemlines mean that everybody's a
- 0:48Speaker 3: little bit more carefree and not as concerned, whereas longer
- 0:52Speaker 3: hem lions mean that we're buckling down.
- 0:55Speaker 2: We're getting nervy.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:58Speaker 3: When popularity of lipstick is up one hundred and eight percent,
- 1:04Speaker 3: Apparently every time that we've gone into a recession, lipstick
- 1:08Speaker 3: purchases have increased while other things go down. So lipstick
- 1:13Speaker 3: remains an essential purchase even during an economic down.
- 1:16Speaker 1: For me, it's an essential right. I love that we're
- 1:20Speaker 1: not stalking up on toilet paper, We're stalking up on
- 1:22Speaker 1: mac velvet. Ten.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Honestly, when popularity of corporate fashion is up thirty
- 1:31Speaker 3: nine percent makes sense.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's been up for like five fucking years,
- 1:37Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, people have been talking shit about the
- 1:39Speaker 1: business casual asthetic flight five years and I'm let him live.
- 1:42Speaker 2: The office siren. Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And finally, when the popularity of minimalist fashion is up
- 1:50Speaker 3: thirty eight percent.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That one is probably the main one that I'm like, Yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 1: that makes sense because causey lips exactly where it pulling
- 2:00Speaker 1: things back.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah, simplicity is key.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah. I do think there is this very interesting and
- 2:08Speaker 1: we discussed it last week about how the political escape
- 2:11Speaker 1: at the moment is influencing you know, a very more
- 2:16Speaker 1: conservative aesthetic and old money and tread wife and blah
- 2:21Speaker 1: blah blah.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I'm like, get your tits out, let's get sluty tits.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Let's be a slutty little slut. I want a dirty,
- 2:30Speaker 4: slutty little outfit from everyone this weekend.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I honestly, if we're going into a recession, the least
- 2:37Speaker 3: we can do is get a little slutty.
- 2:44Speaker 1: That's my obsession. Is nowhere near as good as getting slutty.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You're like, that wasn't the obsession and I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 2:52Speaker 1: that's mine. So my obsession of the week is that
- 2:58Speaker 1: an Austrian study found that having a cat in the
- 3:01Speaker 1: house is emotionally similar to having a ronvantic partner eooo b.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So research shows that cats actively seek interactions with humans
- 3:12Speaker 1: and remember acts of kindness, often reciprocating them later. So
- 3:16Speaker 1: if you want those people that's there and freaking hand
- 3:18Speaker 1: kid and naked, shut up mooring Agrey narrative. Anyone that's
- 3:24Speaker 1: like I hate cats, I'm like, you just told me
- 3:27Speaker 1: that you've got nothing else interesting to hate, Like, really, cats, Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: that's the thing you chose to hate.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's where you draw the line. Draw the line.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But I wanted to evolve on that because this week
- 3:39Speaker 1: we had we had a birthday in the office.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Oh yes we did.
- 3:42Speaker 1: We had a little pissy's baby girl's birthday. Sally turned sixteen.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Sixteen I think he means sixty. Yeah. I was trying
- 3:53Speaker 1: to be nice and for Sal's birthday, I take her
- 3:57Speaker 1: to play with the bunnies and the kittens and puppies
- 4:00Speaker 1: at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. Like getting a pet
- 4:03Speaker 1: in my twenties was like the best thing I've ever done,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and I just am obsessed with her. And with the
- 4:09Speaker 1: city dogs and cats home shelter, you can really ease
- 4:12Speaker 1: into it, so you can foster to start. You can,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know, see if you like the animal, and if
- 4:19Speaker 1: it doesn't work out they're getting adopted or they're so chill,
- 4:23Speaker 1: like you can be like it's too much, like they
- 4:26Speaker 1: need to come back. Like I've fostered a dog once
- 4:30Speaker 1: and he was a fucking demon, Like all he did
- 4:33Speaker 1: was bite me, and I was like, go wait, he
- 4:35Speaker 1: was a puppy as well. He was so cute, but yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 1: like he got adopted in like a wik so it
- 4:39Speaker 1: was fine. And it's just so nice like being able
- 4:42Speaker 1: to help get them out of the shelter. They also
- 4:44Speaker 1: supply everything for you, like it's just the best. So yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I honestly cannot recommend them enough. And there are so
- 4:54Speaker 1: many wee baby animals available for adoption, So if you
- 4:58Speaker 1: are thinking about a pet, plea, please think about adopting
- 5:02Speaker 1: because there are so many beautiful babies that need a home.
- 5:06Speaker 3: We'll put a link in the description so that you
- 5:09Speaker 3: can browse some of the beautiful babies that are up
- 5:12Speaker 3: for foster and adoption.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Because yeah, like EL said, there are so many.
- 5:16Speaker 1: All right, shall we get into the episode?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Woo?
- 5:24Speaker 1: I just realized we didn't tell you guys what we're
- 5:26Speaker 1: talking about today, and we are discussing are you the
- 5:29Speaker 1: asshole of your twenties and beyond? Yes, but we asked
- 5:35Speaker 1: you chicks to send in your am I the asshole situations?
- 5:38Speaker 1: And boy, are there some newsies?
- 5:41Speaker 2: So shall I kick us off?
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah? Sure, I knew there was going to be at
- 5:45Speaker 1: least one wedding. Yeah, there always is, and I think
- 5:50Speaker 1: this one's very interesting. Okay, So am I the asshole
- 5:55Speaker 1: for not inviting my fiance's best friend to our wedding? Oh?
- 5:59Speaker 2: My god? Yeah?
- 6:01Speaker 1: Context is, my fiance has heaps of wonderful friends. One
- 6:05Speaker 1: of these friends has a boyfriend who low ki sucks.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I've met him at two social events so far and
- 6:11Speaker 1: found that he's quite cold, won't join in on group
- 6:14Speaker 1: combos or activities, is withdrawn, and tried to drag his
- 6:18Speaker 1: partner away early or take her away from the group
- 6:21Speaker 1: in general. The most recent interaction was actually at a
- 6:24Speaker 1: friend's wedding, and it made us all feel pretty uncomfortable. Okay,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so it's not his best friend it's his best friend's partner.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah. The issue is she absolutely adores this guy
- 6:38Speaker 1: and brushes off how he treats her and other people.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Fast forward and then now engaged. That's in the message.
- 6:47Speaker 1: By the way, that was not an ad lib bracket
- 6:50Speaker 1: she said. Rip. So our wedding is in October, fabulous
- 6:55Speaker 1: forul marc O callender's my.
- 6:56Speaker 3: God looking out for the invites coming soon.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I'm sure we are constrained by budget and brackets, aren't
- 7:03Speaker 1: we all, and given we're paying for the whole thing ourselves,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I just don't feel like forking out a couple hundred
- 7:09Speaker 1: dollars for this bloke to attend. So we sent an
- 7:12Speaker 1: invite to her but not to him. Are we the
- 7:16Speaker 1: assholes for going against normal wedding conventions of inviting couples,
- 7:20Speaker 1: especially fiances, and likely causing unintentional drama?
- 7:25Speaker 2: O this is such a juicy one.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I know. I think you could argue two sides to this.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I completely agree because my first instinct is you're not
- 7:38Speaker 3: an asshole. It's your wedding and you're entitled to invite
- 7:43Speaker 3: whoever you want, even if it wasn't about the money.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You want people there who are going to be supportive
- 7:50Speaker 3: and who have been involved in your relationship, and like,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you don't want to be walking down the aisle and
- 7:59Speaker 3: smiling at all the people you love and then just
- 8:01Speaker 3: seeing this and I.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Scrolled on on its phone.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, there that you don't even like, Like I personally
- 8:08Speaker 3: wouldn't like that. Yeah, But then I also do understand
- 8:12Speaker 3: the money side of it too. You're like, well, it's expensive,
- 8:14Speaker 3: that money could go towards somebody else. However, I also
- 8:19Speaker 3: think that you have to then accept the repercussions of that. Yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 3: the repercussion and the very likely outcome that your friend
- 8:28Speaker 3: is going to be upset and offended.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I agree with you on the money aspect, being like,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I think that's probably the biggest like hump that I
- 8:35Speaker 1: agree with, being like, like, you don't talk to us,
- 8:38Speaker 1: we don't know you. I don't want to pay four
- 8:40Speaker 1: hundred dollars for you to come. That's fair, I think.
- 8:44Speaker 1: On your wedding day though, and this is where I'm
- 8:48Speaker 1: being like Devil's advocate here, right, You're going to be
- 8:53Speaker 1: so happy and so in love and so like wrapped
- 8:57Speaker 1: up in the fact that you're marrying your partner. I
- 9:00Speaker 1: don't actually think she would notice that he's there. Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 1: like you there are so many people at your wedding.
- 9:05Speaker 1: There are so many people to talk to and see,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and you're going to be sitting at your you know,
- 9:10Speaker 1: at the table with all the people and getting ready
- 9:13Speaker 1: that day that I actually don't think like him being
- 9:17Speaker 1: there you'd notice that much like you'll be so swept
- 9:20Speaker 1: up in the madness of the day in like a
- 9:22Speaker 1: good way, And I think it would be very rare
- 9:24Speaker 1: for anything like that to you know, bring you down.
- 9:27Speaker 1: But in saying that, the invites are vincent, So I
- 9:31Speaker 1: just think, no, you're not the asshole. It's your wedding.
- 9:34Speaker 1: You get to decide who comes. Like I kind of
- 9:38Speaker 1: do find this whole notion of like you have to
- 9:41Speaker 1: invite partners a bit odd sometimes, Like I've been invited
- 9:46Speaker 1: to weddings and my partner hasn't been invited, and I'm like,
- 9:49Speaker 1: that's okay, Like you've never met him, so like, no dramas,
- 9:53Speaker 1: But I just think when they get married, which they
- 9:57Speaker 1: are because they're engaged, there may be a certain repercussion
- 10:03Speaker 1: to that because he might be like, well, if I
- 10:05Speaker 1: wasn't invited to your wedding, mom, you're not coming to moor. Yeah,
- 10:09Speaker 1: so yeah, that's so true. But to answer the question, no,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you're not the asshole.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I would love an update please.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, has the friend said anything? Yeah?
- 10:20Speaker 3: And I want to know if you get invited to
- 10:22Speaker 3: their wedding weddings?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Huh?
- 10:24Speaker 3: Am I the asshole for sleeping with him when he
- 10:27Speaker 3: was freshly single?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh?
- 10:32Speaker 4: Hi?
- 10:32Speaker 2: Girls?
- 10:33Speaker 3: Am I the asshole for sleeping with someone three years
- 10:35Speaker 3: ago who was freshly single? We both were and he's
- 10:39Speaker 3: in the friend group, so we slept together a few times.
- 10:42Speaker 3: And now he has been back with his ex for
- 10:45Speaker 3: a year now with an eight month old son. Mind you,
- 10:50Speaker 3: he didn't tell her that we had history until November
- 10:53Speaker 3: last year. And now I am the most hated person
- 10:55Speaker 3: alive by the girlfriend and some other girls in the
- 10:58Speaker 3: group for sleeping with him. I have been made to
- 11:01Speaker 3: feel like an absolute asshole. And I would have told
- 11:05Speaker 3: her earlier. I just didn't think it was my place.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Do you think I'm an asshole?
- 11:10Speaker 2: Thank you? Girls?
- 11:11Speaker 3: I live with this guilt every day, and from what
- 11:14Speaker 3: I've heard.
- 11:14Speaker 2: He's got off scot free. Typical unfair?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Was she friends with the girlfriend?
- 11:21Speaker 3: They're in the same friendship group. I think so it
- 11:25Speaker 3: sounds like they're all friends and she was friends with
- 11:29Speaker 3: the guy and then he's broken up with his ex,
- 11:32Speaker 3: she's broken up with hers, they've slept together. To me,
- 11:35Speaker 3: it sounds like she was closer with the guy than
- 11:38Speaker 3: with the girlfriend, but it's unclear.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah, submission, I think one, it's just like typical and
- 11:47Speaker 1: so standard for like the girl to be villainized, whereas
- 11:51Speaker 1: the man is just like gets off scott free as
- 11:54Speaker 1: she said, Yeah, and I just find that narrative so tiring.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yes, The only thing is I'm like, were you Are
- 12:03Speaker 1: you friends with the girlfriend? Because then I'd be like really,
- 12:07Speaker 1: But I don't actually think it sounds like they were.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Now she would say we were friends, So I don't
- 12:12Speaker 1: actually think that girlfriend is within the friendship group. I reckon.
- 12:17Speaker 1: What's happened is that the boyfriend has then started dating
- 12:20Speaker 1: his ex again, and then she's started hanging out with
- 12:22Speaker 1: all the friends again. Yeah, and then she's then been
- 12:25Speaker 1: like this happened and blah blah blah blah blah. But
- 12:27Speaker 1: it's also not her place to say anything. No, Like
- 12:31Speaker 1: imagine if she did say something, then she would be
- 12:35Speaker 1: the asshole for that exactly it is a shitty, uncomfortable
- 12:40Speaker 1: situation that I think is potentially a lose or lose
- 12:46Speaker 1: in terms of like what's gonna happen, because she's gonna
- 12:50Speaker 1: like it would be lovely if she was like, look,
- 12:52Speaker 1: he was single. I understand you were single. I obviously
- 12:56Speaker 1: am not the biggest fan of it, but it's fine
- 12:58Speaker 1: like that, that's the idea situation, you know. But I
- 13:02Speaker 1: also would get the girlfriend's perspective of being like, so,
- 13:05Speaker 1: do you still want to fuck my boyfriend?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:07Speaker 1: But in set like that's me again, devil's advocate. I
- 13:11Speaker 1: do not think she is the arthhole. No, or you
- 13:15Speaker 1: were both single? Yeah, you were both single.
- 13:19Speaker 3: And it's his role in the relationship to fill his
- 13:23Speaker 3: partner in on things that could potentially upset her. So
- 13:27Speaker 3: the fact that they've been together for a year or
- 13:30Speaker 3: so now again and then it's taken him until November
- 13:35Speaker 3: to tell her that they slept together, like he should.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Have told her when they were getting back together.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, being like, by the way, just so you know,
- 13:44Speaker 3: because I think that's what would have hurt I was
- 13:46Speaker 3: probably not the most, but a lot.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah. I wonder if she's tried to talk to the
- 13:50Speaker 1: girlfriend about it. But I do think sometimes in that situation,
- 13:53Speaker 1: like she's like they just don't even want to hear
- 13:56Speaker 1: what you have to say.
- 13:56Speaker 2: They're just like.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Nope, yeah, maybe that's just like I think it's just
- 14:00Speaker 1: like coping mechanisms sometimes that it's like they don't want
- 14:05Speaker 1: to be mad at their their partner for what they
- 14:08Speaker 1: feel as a betrayal, so it's easier to be mad
- 14:10Speaker 1: at you.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and because they've got a baby, so if they
- 14:14Speaker 3: need to have a united front as well.
- 14:18Speaker 2: But yeah, this.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Is situation say three years ago.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah over it.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, and for all the friends who are
- 14:25Speaker 3: also now turning on having me, I don't.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Think that's just me.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you were single, it was three years ago. They
- 14:35Speaker 1: need to grow up move on. Like if it was
- 14:39Speaker 1: like a month ago, I'd be like, yeah, she's probably
- 14:43Speaker 1: gonna be a bit whiffy.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Or continued to like pursue it when they were getting
- 14:48Speaker 3: back together.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But like, that's not.
- 14:50Speaker 1: You've done nothing wrong the case. You do not need
- 14:53Speaker 1: to feel guilty for that.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think their hold onto it which is making
- 15:01Speaker 3: you feel guilty, But you also have the power to
- 15:05Speaker 3: forgive yourself and let it go.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I reckon the best course of action is to just
- 15:11Speaker 1: be like the most bright version of yourself, Like, don't
- 15:16Speaker 1: carry this guilt to the forefront, because it validates, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: maybe the nastiness that is happening. And if you are
- 15:26Speaker 1: coming into friendship experiences, being like hi, blah blah blah,
- 15:29Speaker 1: stay hi to the girlfriend, stay high to the girls,
- 15:32Speaker 1: act as if nothing is wrong, because nothing should be wrong.
- 15:36Speaker 1: So like, if you just carry on your merry way
- 15:39Speaker 1: and like embody brightness within that situation, I actually think
- 15:43Speaker 1: it would really help.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Okay, am I the asshole for wanting to break up
- 15:49Speaker 1: with my boyfriend.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Because of who he voted for.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Oh hey, chicks, I've been listening to the show for
- 15:56Speaker 1: a couple of years and I love, love, love you too.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You guys are absolutely killing it. Why thank you? I
- 16:00Speaker 1: love that we read these bits out. We really could
- 16:02Speaker 1: just cut them, but I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I think I should do this. We just make it up.
- 16:09Speaker 1: No one said that. It actually just started with I
- 16:11Speaker 1: have a dilemma. Yeah, okay, I have a dilemma, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: I would love some of your wisdom to help me
- 16:17Speaker 1: make a decision. I'm Lindsay from the US and just
- 16:21Speaker 1: found out last night from a friend that my boyfriend
- 16:25Speaker 1: lied to me about who he voted for in the
- 16:28Speaker 1: latest election. Yes, it was the Orange jump scaredt quote.
- 16:38Speaker 1: He knows how strongly I feel about my hatred towards
- 16:41Speaker 1: that man, and so decided to lie to my face
- 16:44Speaker 1: the day after election about who he voted for.
- 16:48Speaker 2: What should I do?
- 16:49Speaker 1: Is this worth breaking up over? Anything? Helps? Thanks?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Chicks, love ya?
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think so dump his ass?
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think that with with politics, of course,
- 17:02Speaker 3: you can have differences of opinions on certain things, and
- 17:05Speaker 3: it's good to have constructive conversations.
- 17:09Speaker 2: But that's the thing.
- 17:09Speaker 1: There was no constructive conversation.
- 17:11Speaker 2: But there was no conversation.
- 17:12Speaker 3: He lied because he knew that it would upset you.
- 17:17Speaker 3: But also it shows that he couldn't even justify his
- 17:21Speaker 3: own decision with chest yes, and especially with this instance
- 17:27Speaker 3: with Donald Trump, so many of the things that he
- 17:31Speaker 3: believes in go against so many values that are so
- 17:36Speaker 3: core to a lot of women, especially that I would
- 17:40Speaker 3: not feel comfortable being with somebody who voted for someone
- 17:45Speaker 3: who just didn't care about my existence at all, and
- 17:48Speaker 3: also about the existence of so many other groups that
- 17:52Speaker 3: deserve support and to be uplifted.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I think even the fact that you found this
- 17:58Speaker 1: out from a friend is also incredibly hurtful and deceitful,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and like, obviously everyone's political perspectives are different, but kind
- 18:11Speaker 1: of backing what you were saying, that is just so
- 18:14Speaker 1: far away from like where I say that, I'm like, well,
- 18:18Speaker 1: there's no future there because the way that you know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: if you wanted to have kids, the way we would
- 18:24Speaker 1: raise our kids would be so different, like the ways
- 18:28Speaker 1: that we would just grow old is just so far
- 18:32Speaker 1: away from each other. If that's where you stand. Yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 1: So all we can say is that if it was
- 18:38Speaker 1: us and what we would do, and I would absolutely
- 18:42Speaker 1: fucking broake up with them. Yeah, And I just it's
- 18:45Speaker 1: I just the lying.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the lying.
- 18:48Speaker 3: And yeah, obviously voting is private, but the fact that
- 18:53Speaker 3: he just lied about it as well, Like.
- 18:56Speaker 2: It's just, yeah, that's not okay.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to lay next to somebody knowing that
- 19:02Speaker 3: that's what they voted for. Yeah, am I the asshole
- 19:08Speaker 3: for cutting off my friend because they reversed into my car?
- 19:12Speaker 3: Am I the asshole? A bit of a backstory. I
- 19:15Speaker 3: moved into State for work and so did a friend
- 19:17Speaker 3: and her partner. Over the last few months, we'd become
- 19:20Speaker 3: really close. Originally I was going to find my own place,
- 19:24Speaker 3: but I ended up asking them if they had a
- 19:26Speaker 3: spare room. They did, and rent was cheap, so I
- 19:30Speaker 3: was happy. As our rosters are all opposite and they
- 19:33Speaker 3: line naars up as a couple, I hardly saw them. However,
- 19:38Speaker 3: here's where problems started. Once I started work, I realized
- 19:42Speaker 3: it wasn't feasible as it was almost one hundred dollars
- 19:45Speaker 3: for an uber to the airport, which I had to
- 19:48Speaker 3: pay for every second week there and back.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Then every time I did see her partner or her
- 19:53Speaker 2: he would always.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Call me mean names around how I looked. At first,
- 19:59Speaker 3: I'd love off, then it started to really hurt. From there,
- 20:04Speaker 3: the problems kept going. I moved in and she left
- 20:08Speaker 3: me no room in the house for any linen or
- 20:11Speaker 3: kitchen stuff, not even in the fridge did I get
- 20:13Speaker 3: a shelf, and they'd eat my food as they'd get confused.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Fast forward, they were.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Both on holiday and I was at work and they
- 20:22Speaker 3: had family staying over. My car stayed in a small,
- 20:25Speaker 3: tucked up spot near the driveway, so it wasn't in
- 20:27Speaker 3: the way. When I was at work for the week,
- 20:29Speaker 3: I get a lengthy message one day basically saying she
- 20:32Speaker 3: reversed into my car. Okay, so this must be the
- 20:37Speaker 3: family member has reversed into a car. I asked when
- 20:41Speaker 3: it happened, and she said Thursday afternoon. When she told
- 20:44Speaker 3: me it was Saturday night. She had taken it upon
- 20:47Speaker 3: herself to go get it fixed at a dodgy panel
- 20:49Speaker 3: beater and it was not fixed at all.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I was so unhappy.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I don't care that it happened, but at least own
- 20:55Speaker 3: up to it in the first place and tell me
- 20:57Speaker 3: straight away so I can go through insurance. Anyways, I
- 21:01Speaker 3: tell her I want to go through insurance, and she
- 21:03Speaker 3: was pissed. Put through my claim, kept her updated and
- 21:07Speaker 3: my car has been all fixed. After this, I stated
- 21:10Speaker 3: straight away that I wanted to move out after only
- 21:13Speaker 3: a few months. She was again pissed and felt used,
- 21:17Speaker 3: which I wasn't using her. But in my head, if
- 21:19Speaker 3: she didn't tell me straight away about this, what else
- 21:22Speaker 3: could she not be telling me about? Staying there felt
- 21:25Speaker 3: problematic for me and I needed to get out. Since then,
- 21:28Speaker 3: I've moved into the loveliest home with a lovely housemate
- 21:31Speaker 3: and feel so at peace. I've barely spoken to my
- 21:34Speaker 3: so called friend, and I'm wondering am I the asshole
- 21:36Speaker 3: for basically cutting her off after this? She made herself
- 21:40Speaker 3: out to be the victim the whole time when I was.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I feel it was the right choice, but I'd love opinions.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Oh so I'm a bit confused. Was it the family
- 21:51Speaker 1: that reversed into the car or her home mate, because
- 21:54Speaker 1: I don't think we get a distinction. Yeah between that. Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 1: first off, I hate the like boyfriend like calling her
- 22:04Speaker 1: like mean names, but like in the whole home I'm
- 22:06Speaker 1: just kidding way.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Like yeah, it's really inappropriate.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It really gross and really inappropriate, and like obviously like
- 22:13Speaker 1: i'd be like, yeah, move out after that, so I'd
- 22:16Speaker 1: be like, that's the last straw.
- 22:18Speaker 2: For me, you know.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And I'd also be hurt if my friend didn't stand
- 22:22Speaker 3: up for me to like the boyfriend being like, hey,
- 22:26Speaker 3: don't say that.
- 22:27Speaker 2: It's not funny. It's actually really inappropriate.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Because it can be really awkward for you as the
- 22:31Speaker 3: friend to call out the boyfriend. And sometimes I do
- 22:34Speaker 3: think in those instances, like you know, the partner should
- 22:38Speaker 3: say something yes.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and I also think like the lack of space
- 22:45Speaker 1: for you in terms of like no room in the
- 22:47Speaker 1: linen closet, no room in the fridge, and it would
- 22:51Speaker 1: basically feel like you're just there to like cheapen their rent. Yeah,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and like you it's like I hate this narrative with renting,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and like when you move in with couples or you
- 23:03Speaker 1: move into a place that it's like they have the
- 23:05Speaker 1: lease and you've got the room, and it's like you're
- 23:07Speaker 1: renting the room. It's like no, no, no, you're renting
- 23:10Speaker 1: the apartment or the house. The room is just one
- 23:13Speaker 1: part of that. And like the space needs to be communal,
- 23:17Speaker 1: communal and equal. And I eating your food is like
- 23:21Speaker 1: where I draw the line, Like that's diabolical. Yeah, that's evil.
- 23:24Speaker 1: That's evil. There's nothing worse than when you have like
- 23:27Speaker 1: leftovers and you're coming home and you're so excited to
- 23:30Speaker 1: eat them and you open the fridge and someone's eating them.
- 23:33Speaker 1: But then we get into the car car dilemma. I
- 23:38Speaker 1: think it is absolutely diabolical to reverse into someone's car
- 23:45Speaker 1: and take it upon yourself to then take it to
- 23:50Speaker 1: a repair shop repair it yourself without even telling the
- 23:55Speaker 1: person who owns the car.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so wrong, because then if you do want
- 24:00Speaker 3: to put it through insurance, that could significantly impact what
- 24:05Speaker 3: you can claim and what you can do if you've
- 24:07Speaker 3: gone and taken it to a dodgy panel beater first, Like,
- 24:12Speaker 3: that is so not your decision, That is not your place.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You should message as soon as it happened, being like,
- 24:18Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, I've just reversed into your car. It
- 24:21Speaker 1: was a complete accident. That's fine, accidents happen. You apologize,
- 24:24Speaker 1: you own up to it, and like send a photo
- 24:27Speaker 1: and say how would you like me to fix it.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I'm more than happy to pay for it, obviously because
- 24:33Speaker 1: it was my fault.
- 24:36Speaker 2: That's what should have happened.
- 24:38Speaker 1: So I think it's obviously not just this one thing,
- 24:42Speaker 1: like it's there's been a bit of a story here
- 24:46Speaker 1: that you've gone on and very evidently. I think it's
- 24:51Speaker 1: a very good choice that you moved out.
- 24:54Speaker 3: One and I think with stuff like that, it could
- 24:57Speaker 3: be really tricky moving in with a friend. It can
- 25:00Speaker 3: be really hard not to carry on some of that
- 25:04Speaker 3: animosity into your friendship after that if you have had
- 25:07Speaker 3: conflict when you've lived.
- 25:09Speaker 2: With a friend.
- 25:10Speaker 3: So I don't think that you're the asshole for cutting
- 25:13Speaker 3: them off. I don't think it sounded like a very
- 25:15Speaker 3: healthy and rewarding friendship anyway.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Oh, this is a good one. Am I the asshole
- 25:21Speaker 1: for not wanting to go to a male strip show
- 25:23Speaker 1: for my friend's birthday? So? I didn't want to go
- 25:26Speaker 1: to my best friend's oh birthday hosted at a male
- 25:30Speaker 1: strip show slash bar as it's not my thing, But
- 25:34Speaker 1: she chucked a hissy fit because I missed her birthday?
- 25:38Speaker 1: Am I a bitch for this? I really didn't want
- 25:40Speaker 1: to go. No, No, I don't think. I don't think
- 25:45Speaker 1: either if.
- 25:46Speaker 3: You're not comfortable going to a male strip show, or
- 25:50Speaker 3: if you're not comfortable going to any sort of scenario,
- 25:53Speaker 3: you should not have to go just because it's somebody's birthday.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I agree, And I also think if you're planning your
- 26:00Speaker 1: birthday at something like that, which people can feel a
- 26:05Speaker 1: little bit uncomfortable with it. And I also want to
- 26:08Speaker 1: preface this by saying that like sal and I completely
- 26:11Speaker 1: earn one hundred percent like support all forms of work,
- 26:14Speaker 1: including sex workers, So it's not coming from a place
- 26:17Speaker 1: of judgment or anything. People just have different levels of
- 26:20Speaker 1: comfort with what they want to go to and that's fine. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 1: but I think like with that scenario, there are going
- 26:28Speaker 1: to be people that don't necessarily feel comfortable with that,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and that's okay, and you kind of have to expect
- 26:33Speaker 1: that if that's what your birthday plans are. Yeah, kind
- 26:37Speaker 1: of like with anything. It's like if you were planning
- 26:39Speaker 1: something that's really expensive, Like if you were like, Okay, guys,
- 26:42Speaker 1: we're going to Bali for my birthday, there's going to
- 26:45Speaker 1: be people that aren't comfortable spending that money or aren't
- 26:48Speaker 1: comfortable going there, like that's just the situation.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Or if you don't drink alcohol and your friend is
- 26:56Speaker 3: having a birthday party at.
- 26:57Speaker 1: A boss brunch. Yeah, there's so many scenarios that you
- 27:01Speaker 1: can pull in to be like I'm not comfortable doing that.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Like I wonder if she did maybe try to say,
- 27:08Speaker 1: like I'm not comfortable going to this show, but can
- 27:12Speaker 1: I take you out for dinner and we'll spend some
- 27:15Speaker 1: really good quality time together And maybe that's like the
- 27:19Speaker 1: result here in terms of being like I understand, but
- 27:23Speaker 1: like I really don't think she can get mad at
- 27:26Speaker 1: you for not being comfortable going to that show.
- 27:30Speaker 3: No, But I think as soon as somebody says, I'm
- 27:32Speaker 3: not comfortable with something, whether it's your birthday or your
- 27:36Speaker 3: hens night or whatever. That's where you just have to say, Okay,
- 27:39Speaker 3: I understand.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I haven't ever been to one of those like magic
- 27:45Speaker 1: Mike esque shows. Yeah, but I've seen some things on
- 27:48Speaker 1: TikTok and in a lot of the shows they pull
- 27:51Speaker 1: people up on the stage. Yeah. So I also like
- 27:55Speaker 1: think that plays a massive part in it, because like
- 27:58Speaker 1: if like imagine if she got pull it on the stage,
- 28:00Speaker 1: she'd be so uncomfortable.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I don't know what, like the what the show was.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Specific know what the show was, but I don't know
- 28:07Speaker 1: what like the protocol for that is. So I'm like,
- 28:09Speaker 1: when they pull people up on stage, do they have
- 28:11Speaker 1: to be like yes, I content, yeah, surely there's a
- 28:14Speaker 1: lot of touching, and I would be like, don't fucking
- 28:17Speaker 1: touch Yeah, I'm sure. Flipped, yeah, flipped.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Like, honestly, you've got like fucking sixty more birthdays at
- 28:28Speaker 1: least if shes one, it's fucking fine, it'll be okay.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And yeah, I think when you're choosing something for your birthday,
- 28:36Speaker 1: in any scenario, you run like the risk of people
- 28:41Speaker 1: needing to align their values to that. Whether that's their
- 28:44Speaker 1: values of spending, whether that's their values of what they're
- 28:46Speaker 1: doing in their life, it doesn't matter.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, you're not the asshole.
- 28:51Speaker 1: No, no one's the asshole. Yeah. I don't think I
- 28:54Speaker 1: could tell.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Anyone they're the asshole.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Maybe we would be able to dish out some tough love.
- 28:57Speaker 2: But head kiss. Well, that was fun. That was fun.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I can't wait to read through the rest of them.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I know Juicy part two.
