- 0:15Thanks. It's a little wet.
- 0:21Hello it's a. Little Wet.
- 0:23That's how the podcast starts. Good morning my beautiful
- 0:26friend. Good morning, how I miss you in
- 0:29person. I know I miss you too, and I
- 0:32miss the sunshine and I miss all the dogs.
- 0:35And it's actually really weird because coming back home, it
- 0:37feels obviously super, super nice, but I'm like, it's too
- 0:40calm and quiet here. Like there's not enough of like,
- 0:43do your dogs need to go out? Can fit come out now?
- 0:48I miss having a cat here, by the way.
- 0:50Yeah. Literally, I wouldn't blame you.
- 0:53So before we anything, how is your heart like?
- 0:56Oh my. Gosh, how bring us through the
- 0:58last not even 48 hours? No.
- 1:04So Charlie, our oldest dog, is about 14.
- 1:07He started acting really weird and he started like stumbling in
- 1:12the backyard and his head was tilted and I immediately jumped
- 1:16to Oh my God, he had a stroke or something terrible.
- 1:18So I ran in, asked Bobby to come out and we were just expecting
- 1:23the worst. He was also doing something
- 1:26where his one of his eyes was like twitching or like you could
- 1:30see it moving, which I don't know anything about this.
- 1:32And so I just thought it was a neurological thing.
- 1:35And so overnight he had a really hard time sleeping.
- 1:40I had to sleep on the floor for a bit to get him to settle.
- 1:42Oh my. Gosh, was he just like pacing or
- 1:44what was going? On yeah he would get up and pace
- 1:48so we were pretty much anticipating that we were
- 1:51expecting the worst. So the next morning we like like
- 1:54we were both crying about it and like just talking about well one
- 1:58he's our like he's our OG dog. He's like, we've got them kind
- 2:02of in like clumps, like where he was with Sadie, who's passed
- 2:07since. And so just going through all of
- 2:10that, the emotions of that. And then because we called the
- 2:14day before the vet and they said monitor them overnight, they
- 2:17were about to close. I really didn't want to take
- 2:19them in when they were ready to leave.
- 2:21And he was doing OK except for like the weird stuff.
- 2:23So we called early in the next morning, make an appointment and
- 2:28it was for 10:30 because we wanted to have some time with
- 2:31him. So we started planning like it
- 2:32was his last day. Oh my God.
- 2:34I yeah, because at that age, you're going to go to the worst
- 2:39and like seeing how he was like acting, you're like, OK, if it
- 2:42is something neurological, we're not going to like, make him go
- 2:46through this. What for like a couple extra
- 2:48months for us? No, and we don't want him to be
- 2:51like not moving at all. Like so we were thinking, oh,
- 2:55your mug. I love that mug.
- 2:56Oh, I have a mug. OK, my favorite one now my kiss
- 2:591 or whatever heart 1. So.
- 3:02So we got him McDonald's Bethany.
- 3:06When you sent me that text, it also that picture of him
- 3:10happiest day of his life, like you guys are probably like this
- 3:12is going to be one of the saddest days of ours.
- 3:14Yes, like he's just like. He was loving.
- 3:17It I showed case of the picture and he's like, oh Charlie.
- 3:22He's like I love him so much. He goes just so I know.
- 3:25I was never annoyed that he was like on me while I was eating my
- 3:27ice cream. Oh yeah, because Charlie was
- 3:29such a moocher when y'all were here and.
- 3:31He always has been, but like we love old dogs.
- 3:35So it's like he's literally just doing like he's trying to just
- 3:39live his best life. He's not trying to like, you
- 3:42know, Johnny is so sweet. Like he literally is like how I
- 3:46view Johnny is like the little brother that like actually wants
- 3:50to do right versus like the little brother that wants like
- 3:53stir up trouble. And then like Charlie's like I'm
- 3:56doing whatever my heart desires. I don't care what anyone has to
- 4:00say about it. And I love that for him.
- 4:04Yeah, So he was loving it. It was so weird that we went
- 4:07through McDonald's and you know how like, just weird things can
- 4:10happen. And it's like, Oh my gosh, this
- 4:11is so bizarre. Like behind us, someone I just
- 4:14didn't know people did this. This is insane that I'm saying
- 4:17this. I'm, I know people do this, but
- 4:19the lady behind us, she like in the drive through lane threw out
- 4:23her giant cup of, I don't know, coke or something and just
- 4:27littered in the line. Is that weird?
- 4:30It's so weird. It was just one of those things
- 4:32where I was like. Oh, people, maybe they do that,
- 4:34but they should not do that. No, of course not.
- 4:36I didn't. Know.
- 4:37Bizarre. I mean it's insane to say it's
- 4:38people don't litter. I know they do, but like.
- 4:40In the line, usually it's like, oh, they're throwing it out the
- 4:43window, like on a highway or something, which is still
- 4:45terrible, but like it. Was like I ruined it up.
- 4:48It was like, no, she just like threw it up anyway.
- 4:50So so then we go to, I've taken you here.
- 4:54I don't know if I've taken you with Casey Kraft Azalea where
- 4:57Bobby and I got married. I knew right where that was when
- 4:59I saw the pictures. Yeah, OK.
- 5:00So we wanted to take him there and take some pictures and like
- 5:04give him this breakfast sandwich that he devoured.
- 5:07He was like eating like branches off the ground to try to get all
- 5:10the pieces. So he was loving it.
- 5:16And we were like it, like we were kind of like, oh, this is
- 5:19so nice. It was nice weather walking
- 5:21around and then when we were driving over to the vet and then
- 5:24like this is. Slightly morbid too.
- 5:26It was wild. Like we just went through all
- 5:28the emotions of like, we both were crying so much.
- 5:32Like, Oh my gosh, I can't imagine our life without him in
- 5:34it. And so then we went to the vet
- 5:39and they put us into a room where we were with Sadie when
- 5:42she passed away. I just.
- 5:44Got chills? So there's like they have these
- 5:46fake candles they have the girl came in, she was like they have
- 5:50stones that you can write the name on and they have like a
- 5:52more so they even had a jar of Hershey kisses, like give him
- 5:56kiss. Anyway, So then the lady was
- 5:59like, but do you want the doctor to come in?
- 6:02Because again, we went into it like I don't want him to suffer.
- 6:04He's older if this is how he is, where he's like can't see and
- 6:09all this stuff and. Like running into things,
- 6:11walking crooked. Yes, like constantly fumbling
- 6:15and she was like, what do you want to see the the vet to like
- 6:18talk through any other options? And we were both like, we don't
- 6:21really want to get him drugged up, but sure, of course we want
- 6:23like, feedback and he comes in. Actually have a stroke like
- 6:27what's going? On yes, yeah.
- 6:28So he comes in and diagnosis him with Vertigo, which I have not
- 6:33have you ever seen a dog with Vertigo?
- 6:35I've never I've heard of it in. People.
- 6:36Yeah. No, I haven't.
- 6:39So it's like an inner. Ear thing that can happen to a
- 6:41dog as well because I mean dogs technically can get like doggy
- 6:44dementia as well. Well, we thought he was having
- 6:47dementia for sure, but so it was Vertigo and we were like, Oh my
- 6:51gosh, not neurological. He was like listening to all the
- 6:54things. Everything sounded good, which
- 6:55surprised me too because I thought I was.
- 6:57Hearing. They just said that's like old,
- 7:00old. But they agree that he is not
- 7:02hearing the best. They didn't really check.
- 7:05OK. Or I'm like.
- 7:06Or is this just the selective 1? Day.
- 7:07Well, I know he can't hear only because if someone comes through
- 7:11the door, it's not just when Bobby's trying to corral him
- 7:14into a room where he's like, I don't hear anything you're
- 7:17saying. Like when he's eating worms.
- 7:22Devouring my we were. Talking about that before, like
- 7:25we got the good news that he's doing OK, we were just like, I
- 7:28literally said, he said. I'm so glad he got to eat that
- 7:31bucket of worms. Yeah, I give my chickens these
- 7:35dried worms. And I left the that little jar
- 7:38open, big jar over by the fence and I forgot it was there.
- 7:42And I look out and I I'm always aware that Charlie's eating
- 7:44something. So it's like, what is he getting
- 7:45into? I got to stop him.
- 7:47I'm yelling his name from the porch.
- 7:48Nothing. No, not changing at all.
- 7:51I walk over, he's just head deep in this jar with the tried
- 7:55worms. The thing about it, though, that
- 7:58I was telling Casey was as you were heading his way, I think he
- 8:01genuinely knew you were coming. Like maybe he felt your
- 8:03footsteps or something because he started eating quicker.
- 8:06He was like, like, I'm going to get as many as I possibly can.
- 8:10Oh. My God.
- 8:12OK, OK, sorry I'm interjecting just because I don't know.
- 8:14I'm happy. And all the like, partly feeling
- 8:17all the. Feelings for you?
- 8:18Yeah. So you guys are in there.
- 8:19They say it's Vertigo. Yeah.
- 8:22And we're telling him about like, the anxiety, which has
- 8:24just gotten worse, I feel like, over the last month or so.
- 8:27And he said, well, how about we get him on some anxiety meds,
- 8:31see if that helps, and just give him, you know, another chance to
- 8:35see if that helps him feel better.
- 8:37And then the Vertigo should, should subside in like a week or
- 8:39so. We're like, Oh my God.
- 8:41Of course, like we went, we were literally sitting there when
- 8:43they left the first time and we were talking each other through
- 8:46like, OK, this is quality of life.
- 8:48This is the worst decision. But we've been through a Sadie.
- 8:50We know how we felt after where we felt like we did the right
- 8:53thing, even though in the moment it was terrible.
- 8:56So we were like pepping each other up, like, no, this is
- 8:58what's best. And then when he comes in with
- 9:00this and I'm like, tap, because I'm sitting behind Bobby, I tap
- 9:03him on the shoulder. Like, yeah, like we definitely
- 9:05we should get get him some meds, see if that helps.
- 9:08Like, what do you think? Let's do this.
- 9:10He's like, yeah, of course. So so then we were just
- 9:13exhausted like I. Can't even that emotional roller
- 9:16coaster. How was he the day that we left?
- 9:22So. That was Monday, so.
- 9:24What was yesterday, Wednesday? Yeah, yesterday's Wednesday,
- 9:26today's Thursday. So this all happened in a matter
- 9:29of Tuesday was the bad day. So how was he Monday?
- 9:34He was fine Monday because Tuesday's when I sent you a text
- 9:37of the coffee saying I miss you. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:40So Monday he was fine. Tuesday when we get back, we
- 9:42hear him barking because he's with our dogs in that room
- 9:47barking, barking, which again, to me is an anxious thing
- 9:49because he hasn't always done that and so.
- 9:51He I never remembered him doing that.
- 9:53No. Like even not even last time we
- 9:55were there. No, so this is all very new.
- 9:58So then after that I let them out.
- 10:00I was outside. Bobby went in and got on a call
- 10:02with his Co worker and I noticed he was wobbling and I was like
- 10:08Oh my God. Like so that's what?
- 10:09So was that Tuesday? Yeah.
- 10:12And then Wednesday, yesterday was taking him to the vet.
- 10:14Yeah. So he seems a little bit better.
- 10:16He's a little bit more like he's on the meds so he's a little
- 10:20more. I don't know if it's just being
- 10:21calm and old or he's laying around a lot still with the
- 10:26Vertigo is still there a little bit.
- 10:27Do you know? What they put him on.
- 10:30Trazodone for pain and a little bit of anxiety and that one's in
- 10:35a capsule so we can't change the dose.
- 10:39And then the other one I forget what it's called but
- 10:42specifically for anxiety. Gabapentin.
- 10:45Yes. OK, yeah, that's what that was,
- 10:48the stuff that was in those little tubes that we thought we
- 10:51would have to give Ducky on the car ride.
- 10:53Oh, OK. Excuse me, it's gabapentin.
- 10:56So yeah, I mean, I feel like it's one of those things where
- 11:00it's like you guys will know what's best, like try something
- 11:04and if you do notice, like with the anxiety meds and stuff,
- 11:06obviously just tell your vet if it's like all he's doing is
- 11:09laying around because Trazodone really is like a tranquilizer
- 11:11type of thing. So, but maybe that'll just help
- 11:14him get through like the Vertigo and stuff like that and take the
- 11:19edge off for him versus like what's worse, him being a little
- 11:23drugged up and chill or pacing around running into things.
- 11:27You know, the thing that was so weird too that like this felt
- 11:30like, you know, obviously for you guys, it came out of
- 11:32nowhere. So obviously he's got some aged
- 11:35stuff of like that cognitive stuff.
- 11:37But like physically besides like his fatty tumors, he just seems
- 11:42so lively still. That's where it felt.
- 11:44So. Weird.
- 11:46And maybe it's because I have the contrast of like Rhodie's
- 11:48physicality. Like Rhodie looks sick, but
- 11:51cognitively he's so sharp that it's like Charlie just I was
- 11:55like, this just doesn't seem right, which I.
- 11:58Know, we got into the vet room, into the room at the vet and he
- 12:03was like pacing, but like walking around and like, not
- 12:06like when we took Sadie, she like couldn't really get up.
- 12:10So it just felt so different when we were like, holy shit.
- 12:12Like what is this the right thing to do?
- 12:14Like, yeah, yeah. One of my clients turned
- 12:17friends. She's really really she has
- 12:21horses and so she's very in tune with like the energy of horses
- 12:25and her dogs and stuff like that.
- 12:27And when we were struggling with one of the things with Rhody
- 12:29when we were trying to figure out like what's going on with
- 12:31him, something that she like told me that like made it feel
- 12:33like peaceful for if and when that well, obviously it's not an
- 12:37if we circle of life. It will happen at some point was
- 12:42like when we have to make that decision.
- 12:45If it's something that doesn't happen naturally, like being OK
- 12:49with knowing that even if they're not at their worst, it's
- 12:52OK to like let their, you know, physical body go if it means
- 12:58that like you still see the sparkle in them a little bit
- 13:01too. Because I feel like sometimes
- 13:02like we want it to be where it's like, which I'm not saying this
- 13:05with Charlie, what you guys did was 100% the right call.
- 13:08But I felt like with Sadie is like, even though cognitively
- 13:11she might have still been there, you guys just knew that that
- 13:14wasn't like not being able to like get up and like move
- 13:17normally was just not probably what she would have wanted.
- 13:21No, yeah. I mean, I was thinking about
- 13:23that so much, and we kept coming back to the term quality of
- 13:27life. Like Charlie doesn't love going
- 13:29on walks, even though he does when I'm feeding him treats.
- 13:31So there's that, but but just like otherwise.
- 13:34He loves life. Yeah, he literally, he just
- 13:37loves walking around and scavengering.
- 13:41And yeah, he. Really does he likes being a
- 13:44part of like the pack? Like you can just tell that he
- 13:48there was nothing about him besides him being kind of like F
- 13:51this, I'm in this room and not doing what I want to do.
- 13:54That was like, oh, Charlie seems rough.
- 13:56Nothing. Yeah, I know.
- 13:58Just old, old. I don't care what anyone thinks.
- 14:01Energy which? I love fair.
- 14:02Like fair. He's basically acting like a
- 14:04cat. Yeah, so I'm feeling much
- 14:09better. Yesterday I was just like.
- 14:11Did you guys just chill and. Unwind I did.
- 14:15Bobby did some like work but he was also exhausted because he
- 14:19was really feeling all the things and my way of vegging is
- 14:23I cooked some more fresh soup so.
- 14:26Your third batch within 72 hours.
- 14:28Perfect. Propping veggies is so calming
- 14:31to me. Oh my gosh, we got our knives
- 14:33sharpened yesterday. Did you?
- 14:35Can you tell the difference? Well, I actually haven't used
- 14:38them yet. Casey used one of the big ones
- 14:41last night to cut up carne asada before cooking it, and he said
- 14:44he noticed a huge difference. We were able to get all of our
- 14:47knives. They even sharpen steak knives
- 14:50like the serrated ones. I had no idea we got all of our
- 14:54knives sharpened for $70. What at the kitchen store?
- 14:58He took it to It's actually a place that's like attached to a
- 15:02butcher. Is it by that breakfast place we
- 15:05went to? Yes, yeah, That place we walked
- 15:07past and we saw the sign sharpens the knives.
- 15:09Casey's like, OK, I'm going to go there.
- 15:11Yeah, it was $5 a night. Oh my gosh, that's so awesome.
- 15:15Yeah. So life changing.
- 15:19Also, Are you ready for a Casey story?
- 15:22Always. OK, you're going to be like,
- 15:24this is like, so him. So, you know, we literally
- 15:27didn't get home until it was like 3:30-ish on Tuesday.
- 15:31It's only Thursday morning. So yesterday, Wednesday was our
- 15:34first like, full day at home. Yeah.
- 15:37We have 0 groceries, zero, anything.
- 15:39You know, stuff when you're gone for a long period of time.
- 15:42Yeah. So I went on Tuesday late
- 15:45afternoon after being in the car all day.
- 15:46I wanted to kind of like move anyway.
- 15:48So I went to the grocery store and got all the stuff to make
- 15:50the soup that you made. And then the next day was going
- 15:53to be kind of like our let's go to Trader Joe's, let's go to
- 15:57Costco, let's go to the gym. Like let's get back into a
- 16:01routine. Well, Casey decides to add on to
- 16:03his routine. Let's change out the entire
- 16:06faucet in our kitchen sink. Like just let's do that today.
- 16:13And I think he's thinking it's going to be like a quick easy
- 16:15project like your shower heads were.
- 16:18And it probably should have been, but it's just a much
- 16:22tighter space. So the reason he wanted to
- 16:24change this out because we already had a matte black one.
- 16:26Like it looked good. But this is very fair.
- 16:29And I honestly am happy with the fact that his brain goes this
- 16:34way. He was seeing something about
- 16:36like brands of the faucets and stuff like that on Amazon.
- 16:41We're getting recalled for potentially having lead in them.
- 16:44And so of course with Casey being very like, I want to know
- 16:48what's in stuff. He's like, we, I don't, I, we
- 16:51need to get a new faucet, which is kind of hilarious because
- 16:54when we first picked out that sink faucet, he was like, oh,
- 17:00let's go the Amazon route because it's cheaper, which I
- 17:02had. I was like, why don't we just
- 17:03grab it while we're at Home Depot?
- 17:05We know we like this one. But it's it's, it's the effect
- 17:09of Park Ave. Literally, he wants to feel
- 17:12rich, so we have to talk about Park Ave.
- 17:19So this is like I get home. We went to Trader Joe's in the
- 17:25morning, went to the gym, came back and then I had a call with
- 17:27Molly and then I had to head to PT.
- 17:30So I'm coming back from PT at 3 thirtyish.
- 17:32I get home shortly before 4. He hasn't started putting the
- 17:35faucet on yet. I'm like, OK, like he's probably
- 17:38just, you know, I don't know how long that stuff takes.
- 17:41Quick at doing it, he starts doing it.
- 17:43I pull out my walking pad and I'm like, you know what?
- 17:45I just want to walk in my walking pad and watch Love is
- 17:47Blind. So I'm watching it.
- 17:49I'm walking. He's like, Kate, I need your
- 17:51help in here. I'm like, Oh my gosh.
- 17:54So he's trying to screw this thing and it is not tightening.
- 17:57It's not tightening. I'm holding it.
- 17:58He's like, is it tight? And like, no, it's fully
- 18:00flopping around like I don't know what you no, it's not
- 18:04working. I end up needing to get under
- 18:07the sink because his hand can't fit in the area that you need to
- 18:10twist it. I'm not kidding you.
- 18:13I'm under their sweating. I'm like, I was not planning on
- 18:17doing this today. I was like so annoyed.
- 18:21If you're doing great, honey, I'm like, oh, usually let me get
- 18:24you a headlamp. So he gets me a headlamp.
- 18:26I'm under there. I'm like, I did not sign up for
- 18:29this project, but I was like, I can't wait to tell Bethany this
- 18:31because she's going to be like, this is so Casey.
- 18:34We ended up figuring it out, but he wouldn't be able to do it
- 18:36without me. Obviously, I love this.
- 18:40I love a Casey story. It is.
- 18:43You'll never know. It's so random.
- 18:45He's one of the funniest people I've ever met.
- 18:47You and him are literally I think twins that were born in
- 18:53different decades. But also like, I don't know.
- 18:58That's true. It sounded harsh, but that is
- 19:00very true. Which is true You're.
- 19:02Born in the 80s. He was born in the 90s.
- 19:03OK. Yeah, that's true.
- 19:04You guys are literally, and that's probably why I adore you
- 19:07so much as you guys are so much alike.
- 19:12So tell when we were biking to meet him with his brothers at
- 19:16Park Ave. Which Park Ave. is this?
- 19:18Like it's a fancier St. It's bougie.
- 19:21It's a lot of like European tourists will hear, but it's not
- 19:25like Disney. It's a totally different vibe.
- 19:27No, no, it's a little. Expensive store, expensive
- 19:30stores, stuff like that. Like 90% of the stores I'll
- 19:34probably never walk in a because they're not my style and be AT
- 19:36shirt is $376 like. No, thank you.
- 19:39But. Here's a Lululemon which we love
- 19:42to frequent. They have that awesome farmers
- 19:45market on Saturdays, which we've never really like.
- 19:48Gone with you guys, but we went this time and that veggie what?
- 19:54Do you even call it? Veggie stand and it's not even
- 19:57it was like a full tent with they had little shopping baskets
- 20:01because. Oh my gosh.
- 20:03So bougie like what? Farmers Market has a shopping
- 20:06basket. Oh, you think that the farmers
- 20:08market is bougie? That those vegetables were
- 20:11bougie. Really.
- 20:13In a beautiful way. I mean literally like their.
- 20:17Kale was 799. Like that's so funny, I didn't
- 20:22even notice the oh that's not surprising either.
- 20:24I didn't really notice, surprised the detail.
- 20:26OK, but when you got to the checkout, were you like oh, or
- 20:28did it just seem normal really? Well, I think I was highly
- 20:32distracted. Shopped.
- 20:33There, I'm not even gonna lie. I, yeah, I'm so excited about
- 20:37the potential of using their veggies that I'm not really
- 20:39worried. Yeah.
- 20:40No, and I would understand shopped there too.
- 20:42It's just way different than our farmers market.
- 20:46Well, I shouldn't say that that's not true.
- 20:47Like our farmers market is huge. People come from different areas
- 20:50to go. And like some of the stuff is
- 20:52definitely pricey, but the veggies typically are like
- 20:55pretty cheap. And you would think that your
- 20:58farmers markets are amazing because you have so many farms
- 21:01around there. They are in the summer.
- 21:03So our farmers market is is phenomenal in the summer, but we
- 21:06don't have it until the summer. So, yeah.
- 21:11So this Park Ave. St. even like this breakfast
- 21:14spot that we used to go to quite a bit when we visit, but Casey
- 21:17and I went once while we were there.
- 21:18It's just, it's so good. But like I feel like some of our
- 21:21eating habits as a general like has changed and it's very heavy,
- 21:26but still delicious. Yeah.
- 21:28Rich, I should say. It's rich.
- 21:29So Casey is like, I want to bring my brothers to Park Ave.
- 21:33and we get down there. We're like, well, let's meet up
- 21:36with them. So Bethany, Bobby and I bike
- 21:38down there and we get there and they're like in Lululemon.
- 21:41And Casey texts me and he's like, I'm in a shopping mood.
- 21:44And that is literally not him at all.
- 21:46Like he, he doesn't, he doesn't really care.
- 21:49Like he cares what he looks like and stuff like that.
- 21:51But he's like, I, I'm cool shopping at Target.
- 21:54Like he doesn't need anything super fancy.
- 21:57And I'm like, OK, he's like, do I need anything?
- 21:59I'm like go off man. Like I don't know what you need
- 22:01but like get what you want. Well, you were like, he's never
- 22:04said this before. And what did I say?
- 22:06I'm like, we're going to walk in and he's going to have probably
- 22:08like one thing off of the sailrack and we we literally
- 22:12walk in and he has like this swagger to and he's like what?
- 22:16He's like walking like this. He's got this swag and what he
- 22:20said it to you. He didn't even say it to me.
- 22:22Like we walked in and what did he say to you?
- 22:26I wanted to come. He's like, I wanted to come to
- 22:28Park Ave. and shop because I wanted.
- 22:30To I wanted to feel rich. To feel rich I.
- 22:35Wanted to somebody because I don't know if this is just how
- 22:37they wear the hats but I haven't seen him wear it this way since
- 22:40y'all have been there or here and it was up a little.
- 22:44It was how he. Wears it feel like broish, Yes,
- 22:46very broish. Sunglasses on top.
- 22:48He was like had a little swagger.
- 22:51And then the other hilarious thing to me, when we were in the
- 22:54farmers market, we were walking past this really cute like
- 22:58flower stand. It was like on the back of 1/2.
- 23:02What? Truck it was so.
- 23:04Cute, a cute little old truck and we're walking by and he was
- 23:07like, he was like, wow, this is so classy.
- 23:12And I was like, Oh my God, I've got a flower truck.
- 23:18It was so beautiful, but it literally looked like they went
- 23:20and got Trader Joe's flowers and put it in their truck.
- 23:23But this is so classy. He was, so I think he said it
- 23:27twice and I was like, wow, you have been on Park Avenue a lot
- 23:31of times because even when your brothers were here, each day I
- 23:34feel like he took them there. Every day.
- 23:36And it was so funny because the last day, so Casey was like
- 23:41bringing his brothers to the airport.
- 23:42And the last day, his younger brother was at Bethany and
- 23:46Bobby's house. And Kaden goes, yeah, Casey
- 23:50really likes Park Ave. because we're like, Casey, you're gonna
- 23:54take him to Park Ave. again? Because they literally went
- 23:57there every single day. Oh.
- 24:01Wow. That's so funny.
- 24:02It is like it's beautiful there, but like when you go there, it's
- 24:06like you're walking around. You might be going into like one
- 24:09shop or two. Like especially for what?
- 24:11Like I will say that stores are probably targeted a little bit
- 24:16to the more mature, yes generations.
- 24:20Yeah. Oh my God.
- 24:21Tell about Aunt Judy Jacket. Oh jeez.
- 24:25OK, so. We've talked, hello, this is a
- 24:28dog training podcast. Nothing.
- 24:30Well, we we talked about Charlie had nothing to do with training,
- 24:32but we talked about a dog. We might round back out, who
- 24:34knows you never know. So I I've always been
- 24:37self-conscious about not really knowing what styles to wear or
- 24:41fashion to wear. Like I ask you a lot now for
- 24:44advice. I did not when I bought this
- 24:46jacket. I have some other friends that
- 24:48I'm like, can you just pick something out for me because I
- 24:50don't know what to get. I feel so overwhelmed.
- 24:53So I go in because I'm like, OK, I'm I'd really like a jacket to
- 24:56wear out if we got to dinner. When Kate and Casey are here.
- 24:58We just went out to dinner with some friends and I wore this
- 25:00Jean jacket, which is fine, but it's oversized.
- 25:03I don't know. It just doesn't feel like you.
- 25:05Just wanted something a little bit more like elevated.
- 25:07Yes. So we go into this store that I
- 25:11like on Park Ave. And I literally spend like an
- 25:15hour trying on all of these different jackets and I come
- 25:18across. That detail even.
- 25:21Worse no, but I think I think I even told you and This is why
- 25:25you should always just follow your gut and go with what you
- 25:28like. I was thinking about what would
- 25:30other people like on me or like what would someone else get.
- 25:33That's your first channeling my 67 year old aunt.
- 25:36I could think so this like rose mauve jacket.
- 25:45It was like kind of like a bomber ish, but very structured
- 25:50was slightly scratchy. But so I tried on in the
- 25:53dressing room and I'm like, OK, this looks kind of elevated.
- 25:56This looks like like I could go out somewhere at night and it
- 25:59would, I don't know, maybe dress?
- 26:01Up the outfit. Dress up the outfit.
- 26:02Thank you. So get into the car and it's, it
- 26:07was like over $100.00. So I was thinking also, it's
- 26:10like an investment. And so I want to put a lot of
- 26:12pressure on myself to not get one that I didn't really love.
- 26:15I needed to love it. Loved it in the dressing room,
- 26:18wore it out or I when I was checking out, this is what did
- 26:20it for me too. And this also, it should have
- 26:23been a sign and it also did it for me.
- 26:24So paying for it and the lady's like, oh, you should just go
- 26:27ahead and put it on. I was like, you're right.
- 26:28I'm going to walk out, show my husband.
- 26:30He's going to be so excited. Put it on.
- 26:32The lady next to me is like, Oh, my gosh, it's such a great
- 26:34jacket. I almost thought about getting
- 26:36it. I think she was about 54, which
- 26:38is fine. Yeah, she was really cute.
- 26:40And I was like, great, this is the incentive I need so walk
- 26:47out. And Bobby really has no opinion
- 26:49about a lot of things. But he was like, yeah, it's
- 26:51nice. He also knows how much pressure
- 26:53I was putting on myself the last two weeks.
- 26:55I was talking about jackets. Also be wearing a paper bag and
- 26:58he'd think you are the most beautiful thing in the world.
- 27:01That's not really something he prioritizes is like, I guess
- 27:04what I'm wearing, but but he was like, yeah, it's nice.
- 27:08So get in the car. Almost immediately the feeling
- 27:11inside of me was this is not the right jacket because it
- 27:13immediately I sit in the seat, it shifts upwards and.
- 27:22You guys, if you're watching a video, she's giving us a
- 27:26physical description. Up just a little, which felt
- 27:30odd. It also is a little scratchy.
- 27:31It's kind of like a letterman's jacket, but in rows.
- 27:34I know. So I'm just thinking in my head
- 27:37like, Oh no, like I was so excited about it.
- 27:39So I was like, well, let me just get home and see what it's like.
- 27:42But in the car I was slightly like, I didn't really love it.
- 27:45I. Mean.
- 27:47It was like slight, but I was also I was prioritizing the lady
- 27:50in line. That felt really nice.
- 27:52I'm I'm never really complimented on clothes that I'm
- 27:56wearing outside of dog training stuff.
- 27:58I don't know. I've been told like, Oh, that's
- 27:59a cute outfit. But so anyway, and also I'm 40,
- 28:03so I'm thinking I should, I should dress kind of mature, but
- 28:06not old. Anyway, so, so then Fast forward
- 28:10to Kate and Casey being here and I tell her, I tell you about my
- 28:16jacket. You're like, go, you got to go
- 28:17try it on. First of all, a couple days
- 28:19before I showed you a purchase that I made which was wildly
- 28:22stupid. She ordered.
- 28:25OK, First off, she lives in Florida.
- 28:27You guys the coolest. It's been like you guys have had
- 28:30some cooler days, but like it won't get colder than that.
- 28:34No, but once it's cold ish I'm like Oh my God I love cozy
- 28:37clothes and I started following fashion influencers, which
- 28:41there's so many. You should have one where it's
- 28:42like you have a list of things on Amazon people can go buy or
- 28:46whatever. Everyone in the brother does it
- 28:48though. OK, I didn't know that so now I
- 28:50do I follow. I need to unfollow them,
- 28:52especially this one. She's I think like she's got to
- 28:55be 5 one I'm 59. It's just not anyway, so she
- 29:00recommended this really cute on her best.
- 29:05I think she lives like in Minnesota or something.
- 29:06That makes sense for where she lives her.
- 29:08Demographic so I immediately hit.
- 29:10They make it so easy to buy. Hit purchase it's like $30.
- 29:14See, that's the problem with this kind of stuff though, is it
- 29:18is a, it's just 30. So she's added in, added in, and
- 29:22then it's like, OK, now I'm getting a bunch of things I
- 29:25might wear once. Have you returned it?
- 29:28No, it's actually so today on my list.
- 29:30I was going to go yesterday. Yeah, yeah, you had a lot going
- 29:32on. I also need to go out to
- 29:34Abercrombie and return the jeans.
- 29:35Yes, I need to get some different ones.
- 29:37So anyway, it's it's on my list. I just have to go Whole Foods
- 29:40and that's easy. So OK, so I buy that because I'm
- 29:43like looks so cute on her. I get it.
- 29:45I walk out with it on to show Kate who's in the kitchen and
- 29:48her face. If you don't know this about
- 29:50Kate, she can't really hide how she's feeling.
- 29:52She'll be nice, but it's also. The best but worst like thing
- 29:56about me. You can tell right away if she
- 29:59doesn't like something so it looks ridiculous.
- 30:02Even when I tried on I'm like OK, but you?
- 30:03Came out and you're like, Oh my God.
- 30:06Like you were immediately, like I could tell you were like
- 30:09laughing at yourself. OK, I didn't like it.
- 30:11My face was like, bueno, I don't think it's you and I'm whoops.
- 30:17I thought it'd be so cute and cozy.
- 30:19No, it just looks like I gave up on.
- 30:20The IT did look it well, also the long side you put on it.
- 30:24It was like beige on beige and it was just or like monotone
- 30:28tones on monotone tones, which I mean, I'm all about neutrals,
- 30:31clearly what I'm wearing right now, but it just was like,
- 30:34you're so bright and like bubbly.
- 30:39Then I'm like, are you OK? It made you look sad, it.
- 30:42Was like brown. It was like Brown Cafe.
- 30:44Very brown and then Bobby's like he's kind of looking at it like
- 30:52he doesn't want to offend you, but then also he's like, when
- 30:55are you going to ever where he's like, I don't think that's
- 30:56that's you Pickles or something like that.
- 31:00So this is what started the fashion.
- 31:03Yeah, I don't know if it was the same day, but we were on the
- 31:05back porch talking about the jacket.
- 31:07Yeah. Like, go get it, come show it.
- 31:08You get so excited about that stuff.
- 31:10So it's like, Oh my gosh, yeah. So I come out.
- 31:13I was nice about this one right away.
- 31:15You were bad. I could also tell you were not
- 31:16really into it. You were nice because.
- 31:18I said I was. Saying it looks mature, so
- 31:21that's like. It just looked way too mature on
- 31:23you like it in a way where it's like you are mature and but I'm
- 31:27like it's just it was just so not you.
- 31:29And I think what sent me was I love a mauve and I love a rose,
- 31:33but the buttons on it were like this like brushed nickel and I'm
- 31:39like that respectfully, like I have a really.
- 31:42She's my great aunt Izzy and she is like the best dressed like 85
- 31:49year old and she's beautiful. She was a model in Paris when
- 31:52she was like so it was like I could see her wearing that and
- 31:55she like would look beautiful. But I'm like, you're 40.
- 31:58It just it made you. It didn't it didn't scream full
- 32:02of life Bethany. And I'm like, girl, I don't even
- 32:07remember what I said, but I was just like, so then we started.
- 32:10I was like, it kind of looks like maybe you borrowed it from
- 32:12your Aunt Judy. And I don't get, I can't get
- 32:18offended by stuff like this. Like I literally have.
- 32:20I remember this memory so clearly when I was in, it was
- 32:24after high school, so in college time, we were going out to a
- 32:29club or something and I was dressed in like like a sweater
- 32:34or something. And I wasn't like frumpy or
- 32:36anything. I like dressing cute.
- 32:37But for some reason, that night, I just wasn't really.
- 32:40All the girls were like, running around doing all these things,
- 32:43putting on cute stuff. And this girl, Ashley, I was
- 32:47like, yeah, I just don't. I mean, I don't know.
- 32:48I just want to be comfortable tonight.
- 32:50And I was like, why don't you want to something, something.
- 32:53And she was like, I think she yelled at me.
- 32:56It's because you love yourself, Bethany.
- 32:58And I was like, oh, OK, yeah. I mean, that's OK.
- 33:01This memory is not coming out like I remember it, but it was
- 33:04like because I don't know if that was true like she was.
- 33:07Basically saying like dress yourself as if you love
- 33:10yourself. I think she was saying like they
- 33:12were running around, like feeling insecure about what they
- 33:15were wearing. And I'm sitting over there just
- 33:17like observing and like saying, oh, you look great and stuff
- 33:19like that. And she was like, yeah, you
- 33:21just, you're happy with how you look right now and that's great.
- 33:24We are not that way right now. I.
- 33:25Was like, I love that. I think that's great, but it's
- 33:29like, what's that? I do like looking nice, I just
- 33:31get self-conscious about my taste.
- 33:34Yeah. And across the board you have
- 33:36really good taste, like it was just that random couple, like
- 33:40what? You were influenced and it
- 33:43wasn't that kind of influence. Well, yeah, I was telling this
- 33:46to Bobby when we were saying you were in the room.
- 33:49But I remember when we first met and you were in head to toe
- 33:53Lululemon and I was like, she is what I aspire to be one day.
- 33:58I. Never knew this.
- 34:00Oh my God, I thought you were the coolest.
- 34:02Well, First off, I didn't know you were older than me.
- 34:04Like I knew you had to have been a couple years older than me.
- 34:06But as we've talked, you have just like this young, not
- 34:09immature, but you have this essence of like you will be the
- 34:1380 year old that's just like, you know, you're going to have
- 34:17young neighbors next door that are like, I want to be like Miss
- 34:19Bethany, like just like so young spirited, but not in a weird,
- 34:24like I'm a child way. It's like just, yeah.
- 34:27And that's very much how your dad was too.
- 34:29Like just you could just feel like this, you know, energy of
- 34:34like not being, I don't know, like I feel like some people
- 34:37just get kind of like crotchety when they get older and like I
- 34:40don't. Want to take this too seriously?
- 34:42Like, this is adult thing. Well, got to pay the bills.
- 34:44Like, that's just not you. And I love that about you.
- 34:47So then, yeah. So I thought you were like
- 34:50around my age. And I'm thinking, oh, my gosh,
- 34:52She's like, at that point when we first met, like finances were
- 34:55just so different for us. Like, I was 2425 when we met.
- 35:01Wait, was I? Well, how old?
- 35:04What year did we meet before 2018?
- 35:08So probably 2017. 2017 because. 2018 is that picture I showed
- 35:12you where we went to Akiva and you I think that was the first
- 35:15time you came to visit and. What year was that, did you say?
- 35:172018. OK, Yeah.
- 35:19So it must have been 2017. How old would I have even been
- 35:22in 2017? I don't know.
- 35:23I'm 33 right now. I'll be 34 next month.
- 35:25But eight years ago, right? Yeah.
- 35:26So I was. Yeah.
- 35:27I was probably about 2526 when we met.
- 35:30Yeah. And you guys were also, you
- 35:34know, you were in your, you know, Bobby was working at the
- 35:37other company and stuff and just like in a different position
- 35:40then. But yeah, I remember thinking
- 35:42like, she's so cool. She dresses head to toe.
- 35:44Lou, I hadn't owned anything Lululemon yet.
- 35:47My first Lululemon purchase was with you on Park Ave.
- 35:50Oh yeah. Yeah, so I always thought like
- 35:54you, we both do always wear athleisure.
- 35:56So I always thought you always looked so well dressed and like
- 35:58you knew how to like dress your body and stuff like that.
- 36:01But like even just from like the years of like lifting and stuff,
- 36:04like both of our bodies have changed.
- 36:06So I think it's also like learning how to like dress
- 36:08almost kind of like your new body type of thing because
- 36:12you've never been like a wearing like really form fitting.
- 36:14Then we went to Target and you put that white shirt on.
- 36:16I was like, hello, you put that in the cart.
- 36:19You are purchasing this you. Look, my boobs to be on display,
- 36:25I bet that. They were as voluptuous as they
- 36:28are. I never knew.
- 36:31Like I knew you had some stuff under there, but when you got
- 36:33the form fitting thing I'm like girl.
- 36:36I have worn that. Big money for those.
- 36:39I know I what was it the day after y'all left or I think it
- 36:43was Monday and I went to the store and got stuff for soup
- 36:46probably and other things and I was wearing that white top
- 36:50underneath with jeans and a jacket and then when I got back
- 36:53you. Were wearing jeans.
- 36:54Well, it was cold. Oh, yeah.
- 36:56Oh, yeah. I was trying to be cute, like
- 36:57going to Publix. And so I came back.
- 37:01I had my bomber jacket, which is a new jacket I got from Little
- 37:03Lemon, which I loved. I kept thinking about, and you
- 37:07love that one, so that's exciting.
- 37:10But I came back, I took my jacket off and I was in the
- 37:11kitchen and Bobby was like, Oh my God.
- 37:14He's like Kate, has a great influence on you.
- 37:19Well and then we both got this same workout top which is
- 37:21hilarious. It looks so different on both of
- 37:23us cuz we have no the pink tank top.
- 37:27Oh yeah, Halter. Top, halter, top, it's like a
- 37:30halter top workout. I love a workout top that like
- 37:33can show the back, like top part of the back because I love
- 37:36working Outback. So I'm like, it's just like, you
- 37:39know, makes you feel good when you see muscles and you know,
- 37:41when you're lifting. And we both tried it on and I
- 37:44think that's the coolest thing. It was literally like, did you
- 37:46watch the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?
- 37:49A long time ago, yeah. Like lively and in it and that
- 37:54was like my age group watching that movie.
- 37:57And it literally made me think like this could be the because
- 38:05like our height difference, we just are completely different.
- 38:09But it looked so cute on both of us, So we both got it.
- 38:12And I'm like, Bobby's going to thank me for this one.
- 38:15Oh yeah, I so so Kate and Casey went to go get massages and.
- 38:19And so I put it on. Bobby was in his which is in our
- 38:22house, his office working. I go out to work out, put it on
- 38:26with some shorts. I take a picture and I sent it
- 38:27to him and I'm. Like which I love that you did
- 38:29that because you know, you're feeling, you're feeling
- 38:31yourself. And I'm like, get go off, girl.
- 38:33I love that. He came out again.
- 38:36It's not that I like dress like in a trash bag every day when
- 38:39I'm with him, but I love to be comfortable.
- 38:41We've been married 15 years. Like you get to a point, but I
- 38:45still, this has really shown me when we need to get dressed up
- 38:48to go out because that was so fun when we went to Domu got
- 38:50dressed. Yeah, so cute.
- 38:53I love seeing like the guys get dressed up and like take care of
- 38:56themselves too, even though it doesn't like take as long to get
- 38:59ready. But I like you could tell like,
- 39:00you know, even Bobby was probably thinking about his
- 39:02outfit and. He got his beard trimmed, he
- 39:05walked in. He was like a Kendall.
- 39:07I couldn't believe it. Like a cute Kendall.
- 39:10Not the Nerf penis Kendall anyway.
- 39:11So, so out in the garage, Bobby Man is listening to this box.
- 39:16If it is, it's probably our husbands, so it's fine.
- 39:20And all, I used to play with Barbies so much up until I was
- 39:23like in 6th grade, which is a little bit too long.
- 39:25No who? Cares.
- 39:26I couldn't tell anyone in 6th grade they make fun of me.
- 39:29That's fine. Anyway, I love that look.
- 39:30Forward to going home and doing it.
- 39:32OK so I sent that picture. Bobby came out there and he was
- 39:36like he started filming me working out.
- 39:40Have like little videos. All right.
- 39:46Nice. Yeah.
- 39:47So that was fun. We're going to do a.
- 39:49Split squat real quick, let me get give you a good angle to
- 39:53work with. Yes, you're a very good
- 39:57influence. I mean, there's so many.
- 39:58Things you know, I made soup with so many vegetables when we
- 40:01got home. Did you like it?
- 40:03Loved. Did you use the miso?
- 40:05Yes also if you ever which you can find me so I could not find
- 40:09the type that you get like in that little tub.
- 40:12I even like was searching it. I just went to the festival the
- 40:14one down the street they had like that minute miso, but I
- 40:17looked it up. I if it was still considered
- 40:20white because it wasn't, it didn't say white anywhere on it.
- 40:22And it did and it turned out really good.
- 40:24But yesterday I found that Trader Joe's has white miso
- 40:27paste. Yeah.
- 40:28So I bought some done just have on hand for when I make it
- 40:33again. But loved it.
- 40:35The only thing which is when you wrote out the recipe, you forgot
- 40:38to put the beans. Yes.
- 40:40Did you think about it? OK, so I just had forgotten that
- 40:43you put the beans in. So I was already making it.
- 40:46And you know, for us, even though it's not super far, it's
- 40:49not as quick for us to run to the grocery store.
- 40:51So I'm like, no, I don't have any beans, but I made chicken
- 40:53thighs to put in it. I actually put black beans in it
- 40:57since it's kind of like a Taco style soup.
- 41:00It was delicious. Yummy.
- 41:02I did buy at the store yesterday for when I make it again the
- 41:05northern beans like the yeah. They're really creamy.
- 41:08Yeah, but the black beans were awesome, too.
- 41:12Yeah, It tasted almost exactly the same.
- 41:14Really. Yeah.
- 41:15And then I couldn't. I wasn't sure, but it was when
- 41:17you were having a rough day, so I didn't want to text you if it
- 41:21was a full packet of Taco seasoning full.
- 41:24So I did. I was just like, I'm going in
- 41:26because and it ended up turning out perfect.
- 41:28So hey, how? Fun.
- 41:31OK, cool. Yeah.
- 41:33So there's so many things that have we were saying like that
- 41:36have happened over the three weeks that you were with us that
- 41:38I forgot happened, you know, glad.
- 41:40That we're also highlighting some of the hilarious fun stuff,
- 41:42because I did feel like some of the heavier stuff kind of
- 41:45happened on the tail end, like with the chickens and stuff, and
- 41:47then like Charlie kind of acting weird in general.
- 41:50So then when you told me that, like, he was really going
- 41:52downhill, I just felt like, I almost felt terrible, like it
- 41:55had nothing to do with us. But I'm like, I hope that the
- 41:58like, you know, even though he had some of his moments where I
- 42:01could tell you guys were getting a little annoyed with him, like
- 42:03with his, you know, just being a little chaotic old man.
- 42:08Oh no, I hope they're not thinking like, oh, we just had a
- 42:10terrible three weeks with them or anything like that because.
- 42:12Oh my gosh, no. Yeah, so I'm so glad that it's
- 42:16happened the way it is. And you'll have to keep me
- 42:17posted on Charlie Boy. Yeah.
- 42:20Does Johnny miss me? Obviously.
- 42:22Oh my gosh, 01 thing that I found interesting and you and I
- 42:25were kind of talking about this on a walk the other day.
- 42:27So I had another person ask me, I think I I don't know if I
- 42:30posted some of my stories that like Bertie and Johnny were both
- 42:33in or something, but like how does all your dogs get along?
- 42:37The the question about that. And it's so interesting when I
- 42:40go to answer that because I'm like great, but also they don't
- 42:43get together and the only dogs that do is Bertie and Johnny and
- 42:47Charlie would be able to as well.
- 42:49But it's so interesting because it's like we put zero pressure
- 42:52on like trying to get our dogs to be friends because it's like
- 42:56a, we've got Rhody who is not dog social.
- 42:59Like he's great with birdie, but no, that's not going to happen.
- 43:02And there's Theo who like very much can be, but it takes him
- 43:05time. He wants to be like dominant
- 43:07dude in charge. So it's just like funny because
- 43:11it's like it's literally we have 6 dogs between US and it's so
- 43:16easy. People.
- 43:18Hoover Freaking complicated. Well, that's got to be because
- 43:22I, from our experience, like even like a example real quick
- 43:25of just how people view dogs. Like yesterday at the vet I went
- 43:29out to use the restroom and I was waiting for a guy who
- 43:32flushed twice. Oh no.
- 43:35So I was already so nervous and like what am I working Charlie?
- 43:38And like jeez. OK, so I.
- 43:39Can't handle a smell right now. No, so I look over and there's
- 43:43this adorable little grey pity who looked like a mini 1 and he
- 43:49was like a lot of times I think of pities as like this is not
- 43:54the stereotype. It's just from experience of
- 43:55being a little bit more hyper aroused.
- 43:57Like they make like a whining noise sometimes when they're
- 44:00really excited. And so just seeing he seemed
- 44:02excited and the bet tech came over to take the leash.
- 44:06He bit her hand and then kept going after her.
- 44:10And the there were three people with their like, little dogs in
- 44:14their laps next to me and they're like, oh, he's just so
- 44:16excited. And it's just such a different
- 44:18perspective. And I was like, whoa, we.
- 44:21Were at the farmers market, like I found myself kind of being a
- 44:25little bit on edge initially and I was like, oh, thank goodness
- 44:27most of the people that are bringing at least maybe it was
- 44:29just because it was that one time, maybe you've seen way
- 44:31worse, but most of the owners except for a couple had really
- 44:34good handle of their dogs at the farmers market.
- 44:37Maybe. Like again, people that can't
- 44:40bring their dogs, they're like leaving them home.
- 44:42But the thing that I saw on all of those dogs, prong caller,
- 44:46every single one that was like working great with their owner,
- 44:49chill, like hanging out with them was, you know, their owner
- 44:52had really nice control and communication with them.
- 44:55But I have this little video of Birdie and Johnny.
- 44:58I don't remember if I've sent. I have so many videos I've been
- 45:01looking at. I'm like, I don't think I sent
- 45:02all these to Bethany, so I'll like trickle them into your text
- 45:07from day-to-day. Just as like a little mood
- 45:08boost. There's this really cute one of
- 45:10Johnny and Birdie just sitting with me at East End and they're
- 45:13right next to each other and Johnny's nervous Birdie's like
- 45:17I'm loving to be being here, but they're like directly next to
- 45:21each other. No one's touching and they're
- 45:24just like being and that's like kind of how they're like Johnny
- 45:26would love if Birdie would play and like engage with him where
- 45:29Birdie's just like, I'm seven. I'm not interested, but like,
- 45:32let's hang. I love being around you.
- 45:34I think that's really cool because I think that so many
- 45:37people want their dogs to have BFFS.
- 45:39And I get it. Like it is so cute.
- 45:40Like watching Louis and Johnny play.
- 45:42I'm like, that's so cute. But I love, I just love when
- 45:47things feel peaceful between dogs and like this constant just
- 45:53heightened energy. I've realized.
- 45:55And again, like you said, it's probably from our experience.
- 45:58I, I don't like it. Like I love having a group.
- 46:01I think you asked me this, like, do you like having a group and
- 46:03you can have them all socialize of of course, like when I have a
- 46:06group of 6 boarding dogs or something back and I can put
- 46:09them all out together and I know we're going to have zero issues.
- 46:11They can tire each other out. It's great.
- 46:14I like it in that context. Do I like it inside?
- 46:17No, I want everyone to chill. Do I like it when one's getting
- 46:20whiny in their crate because they want to like go out and
- 46:23play with their buddies? No, I don't.
- 46:26I. Don't have something like with
- 46:27Birdie and Johnny. Johnny would go and like zoom up
- 46:30to Birdie. But we knew and I was, I think
- 46:34being hyper aware of Birdie probably doesn't like that kind
- 46:36of energy. And so I would tell him no or
- 46:39say his name to like, slow him down.
- 46:42Yeah. Which most dogs, I think a lot
- 46:43of people would probably just let their dogs kind of figure it
- 46:46out. Like this is one thing with the
- 46:49giant Cane Corso that I worked with Azula.
- 46:51And she and I, I don't love this.
- 46:54And this is something I talked about with her owner because I
- 46:56think a lot of times people look at play time with dogs is like a
- 47:00free for all. Just like let them, yes.
- 47:01WWE. Yes.
- 47:03And she was literally, she was giant and like galloping like
- 47:06there was a horse in our backyard, which I don't mind
- 47:08some play, but I also don't love like with our backyard, it can
- 47:13just turn into a race track. And so it would be a lot more
- 47:17where I would kind of have her slow down and be with the other
- 47:21dogs. But I don't love, I don't love
- 47:23the chaos. It makes me feel chaotic.
- 47:25Yeah, and I also feel like it kind of gives dogs a just not
- 47:29the greatest experience from standpoint of like we might be
- 47:32able to allow that here with us or you might be able to allow
- 47:34that with Johnny. But like I give, I feel like
- 47:37that gives a lot of the dogs the precedent of like when I'm off
- 47:39leash or out of command or off of place or out of my kennel
- 47:43around dogs, I'm going, going, going, but otherwise I'm put in
- 47:47command. I see that with there's a couple
- 47:51of dogs that immediately come to my mind, and I've literally said
- 47:54this to his owner as well, but Canon Steph's dog, he's very
- 47:57much like that too, where it's like he just doesn't his his
- 48:02it's either on and we're like, you know, going, going, going
- 48:05when I see another dog, like even when he comes here, he
- 48:08means so well, but he's just such a big dog that it's like he
- 48:10needs to not be so intense every single time he's interacting
- 48:14with the dog. Otherwise he has to be put into
- 48:17into a command. And that's coming with age of
- 48:20like maturity and stuff that can get a lot better.
- 48:23But another dog that I think about is this big intact, still
- 48:28young English lab. And again, people think lab so
- 48:32friendly. So this but like you can be so
- 48:35friendly. And also I've also told his
- 48:37owner this. So for some reason she's
- 48:38listening. You can also still be so rude
- 48:41like. And so a lot of the times,
- 48:43honestly, he's one that it's like he will not leave the
- 48:45females alone. He's posturing the males that
- 48:48like he gets put on the other side.
- 48:50And it's just because it's like, this is not like this is not
- 48:53conducive for anyone. Like, you're not interacting in
- 48:56any sort of like, positive way. So I think that, like, sometimes
- 49:00owners just need to like, like, give themselves a little message
- 49:05that it's OK if my dog is just, like, not meant to be doing the
- 49:09WWE with other dogs. Yeah, just permission that your
- 49:13dog doesn't have to do that. I'm sure that's awkward with
- 49:15because I have friends who have dogs and their dogs are not
- 49:18trained. It's like, I know I've brought
- 49:20over this was a long time ago, one of our dogs and I also
- 49:25noticed things other people don't notice like I know you do
- 49:28where some things to someone else can look really playful.
- 49:31Where to me it's like, oh, that can escalate quickly to do
- 49:34something bad that I don't want. And it's like when I take
- 49:37owners, we part of my go home sessions are outside the dog
- 49:41park. Sometimes it makes me so anxious
- 49:43because especially on the weekend it's super busy and.
- 49:47There's a lot of things you can't control.
- 49:49Yes, where I think, I wonder if other trainers do that too where
- 49:53I mean I see a lot of where dogs are being social, but it doesn't
- 49:56mean a free for all. It's like totally more
- 49:59structured. That's really what I try to keep
- 50:01it here. You know, Of course it's fun to
- 50:04post the stories of like one chasing the other.
- 50:07But then I also try to very much like bring everyone back down to
- 50:10life of like, hey, if you see your dog doing this here and
- 50:13maybe it's like a dog that's really reactive on leash, but
- 50:15you know, with their owners has a little bit harder of a time.
- 50:18It's like it's OK also if their only time to really do that is
- 50:22here at Auntie Kate's house. Like I tried to tell them like,
- 50:24you know, we have such a controlled setting out there.
- 50:26The dogs also are going to respond differently.
- 50:29And obviously that's why we're not a fan of going inside the
- 50:33dog park. But yeah, I just feel like a lot
- 50:36of people, not a lot. A couple of people had asked me
- 50:39like, how do all your dogs do together?
- 50:41And it just like really stemmed like a thought in my head of
- 50:44like, I don't even put any thought on it, if that makes
- 50:47sense, like. It just seems normal, like just.
- 50:49Yeah, and like we can take any of the dogs out and go walk them
- 50:52together and it's non issue. Rhody did have, which was kind
- 50:58of funny but also like annoying. He had a little moment, which
- 51:01obviously you know, this of when we were walking, I had Roadie,
- 51:05you had Johnny and I feel like you might have had another dog
- 51:07with or maybe it was just Roadie and Johnny.
- 51:10And Johnny gives off this little like he's playful but also a
- 51:14little insecure. So if you're walking behind him,
- 51:17he does a lot of like, looking back.
- 51:19And that's like, Roadie's like trigger, like, dude, you're 11,
- 51:24get over it. But like, it always had been,
- 51:27like doesn't like when a dog's like looking, it's because
- 51:29Roadie's also insecure. So Johnny's like, you know,
- 51:33we're walking behind you guys. And I could tell Roadie was
- 51:36getting a little like, like, why does he keep looking back here?
- 51:40And then Johnny went to go potty and then got like a little
- 51:42Zoomie next to you. And then Roadie's like, whoa.
- 51:45And like tries to go at the end of his leash.
- 51:46I'm like, are you kidding me, dude?
- 51:48Get get over here. But it was like 3 seconds and
- 51:52then no big deal. And we're both like over it.
- 51:54I know some people, some owners would probably be like, Oh no,
- 51:56like that's a huge set back. Like it's just like whatever,
- 52:00he's having a feeling about something.
- 52:01We moved on. We kept on with our walk like.
- 52:04Yeah, that reminds me of, I mean, Azul is just the most
- 52:07recent dog I worked with and her owner texted me, she's been
- 52:12texting me some updates and it's just the reality of having dogs
- 52:16if they've been through training or not.
- 52:18And she was like, because I love the saying it's feedback, not a
- 52:22set back. So most owners see something
- 52:25like that happen and they're like, Oh no, like we're going to
- 52:27go back to how it was before and does all the work, which is just
- 52:31not true. And so she texted me.
- 52:35Azula had one of her worst outbursts at a dog the other
- 52:39day. She's been doing so great
- 52:40otherwise. And she was like, but I just
- 52:42remembered or she didn't say that she was like, but I took
- 52:46note of what went wrong. It, it was something that I
- 52:48think I didn't pay attention to, to be better for the next time.
- 52:51And I was like, that's great. That's that's what it's all
- 52:53about. That's why I tried to remind
- 52:55because, you know, you were saying that Azul is probably 1
- 52:57of like the most reactive dogs you've seen in a while.
- 53:00And I feel like I work with a lot, a lot of reactive dogs.
- 53:05And I tell owners I'm like, they will go home and like still
- 53:08react. And there will be a moments of
- 53:10reactions, especially with some of them that I'm like, if I have
- 53:13to be so on you, I know they're going to go home and struggle
- 53:15with their owners is like, and I get that they reach out to us
- 53:19for the things they feel like they need support on.
- 53:21And that's totally fine. But I think sometimes it's like
- 53:24just reminding yourself to like not put as much weight on that
- 53:28one feedback or set back that happened and like, remember
- 53:32that. OK, you've had also thirty walks
- 53:35that have been amazing or been really good or had like, you
- 53:39know, a little bit of like, oh, extra arousal, but you were able
- 53:41to address for the arousal and they did so well.
- 53:45But I do get what it feels like when you do have like a big
- 53:47reaction again, you feel like, Oh no, like it's going to all
- 53:50just like, you know, unravel and things are going to go terribly.
- 53:54But, and again, that comes with us doing this for so long
- 53:57because I think back to young Kate who was struggling with
- 54:00Roadie when I first had him and it was like everything felt like
- 54:04we're never going to make progress.
- 54:06And even though he's not a perfect dog, like I mean, he's
- 54:08perfect to me. But I'm like life now is just so
- 54:12freaking easy. And it has been for years now.
- 54:16And so I think when I say that, like reminding myself it's or
- 54:19reminding people of that, it's probably 'cause I'm reminding
- 54:21myself if that's what what I felt like years ago.
- 54:24Yeah, well, it just seems like you don't have as much pressure
- 54:26on. Zero pressure.
- 54:28Yeah, it's, which is so different.
- 54:30Well, even the fact that when we went and walked to get coffees,
- 54:34I don't remember if we talked about on our first podcast with
- 54:36this really cute place that's near Bobby and Bethany's house,
- 54:40we walked to almost every day for either poke or coffee.
- 54:43And Rhody came with us twice. And like, I've not in years put
- 54:48pressure on him to be a patio dog.
- 54:50So even when we were walking there on a Sunday, I said to
- 54:53Casey, I'm like, hey, if it's like super busy or there's a
- 54:54bunch of other dogs or a bunch of little kids because I get
- 54:56nervous with like a lot of I shouldn't say this, but like, I
- 55:00don't know if parents are putting the teaching their kids
- 55:03boundaries that I don't go up to stranger dogs and stuff.
- 55:06So I just get nervous. And I said to Casey, I'm like,
- 55:09hey, if you need to like stay back here, I'll run in to get
- 55:11coffee. And luckily it was quiet and
- 55:13like Rhody did so good, but it was also because it was a
- 55:17situation where he could, there wasn't a bunch of dogs around.
- 55:19There wasn't a lot going on, but it was really nice having like a
- 55:24couple of times where it's like I really felt like a dog owner.
- 55:26That was like full circle. When Kate at 23 got roadie
- 55:30really wanted him to be something that he wasn't.
- 55:34But then it was really cool at Kate at 33 having him do
- 55:38something that it would have been 100% fine with me if he
- 55:41didn't. But then he was able to do it
- 55:44successfully and enjoyably that it was like, it felt cool.
- 55:47Like I'm like, OK, I get it. While my owners like still kind
- 55:51of put that pressure on themselves and their dogs at
- 55:53times because it does feel cool, it does feel good.
- 55:55But I can tell you from experience, it feels better
- 55:58going into a zero pressure and it happening than putting
- 56:02pressure on it and muscling through it because I've been
- 56:05there as well. I'll never forget like there was
- 56:07a couple of times where we literally muzzled up roadie, put
- 56:11an in training vest on just to go like do a dinner with him out
- 56:15on a patio to say we did it and like.
- 56:19I know. Oh my God.
- 56:21I just think there's so much pressure for, I feel like a lot
- 56:24of owners, and I think we've both been there because I've
- 56:25been there with Louis. When you first were visiting.
- 56:28Yeah. It was like she was a reflection
- 56:30of me. Yeah, it's like a reflection of,
- 56:33and I think that's just from not being immature, but like being a
- 56:38newer dog owner and feeling like you have to prove yourself.
- 56:41And we're also trainers and like there's that added pressure
- 56:44where I really think with owners it's if their dog is reactive or
- 56:48whatever, or they can't take their dog to the farmers market
- 56:50when their friends are taking their dogs.
- 56:51It's like a reflection of a lack of just.
- 56:55That's not how it is, But I think you kind of have to go
- 56:57through that to realize that. And like, I think that looking
- 57:01at it is like the reflection of you.
- 57:03Yes and no. Like Louis, I will say, is a
- 57:06reflection of you guys. And I think that's in a good way
- 57:09because she's come so far in the years that I've met her and it
- 57:13feels so much less pressured. Like when I first visited, she
- 57:17was obviously very uncomfortable with me, but like, you wanted me
- 57:21to walk her. You wanted her to be out.
- 57:24You wanted her to be a part of things, which I also was
- 57:26encouraging of it. I'm like, I'm more than happy to
- 57:28walk her. I'm more than happy to do those
- 57:30things. Do I think the reality of that
- 57:32though? I really didn't.
- 57:33Oh, you didn't want to? Well, I think I felt so I'm
- 57:37always I'm very indecisive in most of my life, but times when
- 57:41I'm, I think I make decisions is when I'm feeling like I, I put
- 57:46pressure on myself that because you're so good about being like,
- 57:50Hey, let's take her and like I can walk her and which was so
- 57:54great. I would have loved for her to be
- 57:56behind a gate so I don't have to.
- 57:57There didn't have to be any moments of.
- 58:01Uncertainty embarrassing me. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:03With that, again, I took it so personally as a reflection for
- 58:06me or wasn't a good enough trainer and now growth, yeah, I
- 58:10think that's. Pop her away or like.
- 58:13If she, yeah, it's no big deal. It's if she, if anything, where
- 58:16it's like she's showing any sort of like because initially it
- 58:19always takes her a little bit longer to warm up to Casey.
- 58:20This time was like so amazing. Like it's like.
- 58:23I didn't have a human we. Both like we both love Louie.
- 58:27Like I know we were talking about this because Johnny
- 58:29obviously well is your favorite, but like also you love all your
- 58:33dogs so much. But like Casey and I both we
- 58:36love all your dogs, but we really like Louie.
- 58:38I think it's because she showed us so much of her sweet side and
- 58:41like so into us this time, which was so cute.
- 58:45But like, even sometimes when she is just like barking, like
- 58:48sees Casey and barking, you guys like, all right, like, let's
- 58:51just put the dog away. And it's like not a the dogs are
- 58:55in trouble. It's just like a we don't want
- 58:56to deal right now. And I love that.
- 58:59I love seeing my owners get to that too.
- 59:00It's like, you know, having people come over for a holiday
- 59:04party. Your dog doesn't need to be out.
- 59:06My dogs aren't out. Like Roadie's not surprising,
- 59:09but even Birdie, who clearly we can let her into the room of all
- 59:13the trainers that the trainer knew, she's an attention hog.
- 59:16She gets distracting. So then it's like, OK, you're
- 59:19done. Like and she is a food hound.
- 59:21So like a lot of times I don't want her out for like scavenging
- 59:25or whatever. So it's just I love seeing my
- 59:29owners get to that as well. Not in a way of like just go put
- 59:32your dog away, but also kind of go put your dog away.
- 59:35Yeah, yeah. They are.
- 59:36It's OK. It's.
- 59:37OK, like, so many people are doing so much with their dogs,
- 59:40which is amazing. But I think it's also that,
- 59:42like, so many people are either working from home or, you know,
- 59:45around more, so they have this pressure.
- 59:47Like their dog needs to constantly be entertained and
- 59:48constantly be a part of something.
- 59:50And there's a reason we see a lot of anxiety these days.
- 59:55But yeah, I think that when owners can kind of like step
- 59:57into that, like I'm gonna give my myself permission to.
- 1:00:02I kind of trust my gut in certain situations and like not
- 1:00:05need it to be something that might be more Instagram worthy,
- 1:00:10then it's OK. Yeah.
- 1:00:13And I think that's just kind of it's part of growth, you know,
- 1:00:15going through things and then also seeing, like when you
- 1:00:17pointed out, like she is a great reflection of you where I was
- 1:00:20only focused on the negative stuff.
- 1:00:22Yeah. It's like, you know, when you're
- 1:00:24shopping for a red car and then you see red cars everywhere,
- 1:00:26like what you focus on is so powerful.
- 1:00:29And so for owners and their dogs and for us and our dogs, I think
- 1:00:33you kind of have to go through that of feeling those feelings
- 1:00:36of feeling overwhelmed and like, Oh no, am I doing this right?
- 1:00:38Because then it kind of leads to let me try some different things
- 1:00:42or listen to a podcast and pick up something new.
- 1:00:44And hopefully we can help reassure you that we've been
- 1:00:47there, we know what it feels like.
- 1:00:48And now being on the other side where you're more accepting of
- 1:00:51who your dog is and then kind of seeing the quirks is not
- 1:00:54validation that you're doing something wrong.
- 1:00:56But really just all dogs are so different.
- 1:00:58It's like people like, like we're so different.
- 1:01:01Our personalities, we have so much in common, but and that's
- 1:01:04kind of what makes it so special.
- 1:01:07Totally. Yeah.
- 1:01:09Well, I am so happy that we are checking in with better news.
- 1:01:14Like, obviously you know, he's still your 14 year old boy, but
- 1:01:17if it means that he's feeling good and cozy, yeah, that's all
- 1:01:21that matters. And that you guys are feeling a
- 1:01:23little less like whiplash. Y Holy crap.
- 1:01:25Yeah, thank you. Y'all are so sweet, so nice
- 1:01:27having friends we can share this with and who know him really
- 1:01:31well. Yeah.
- 1:01:31Yeah. Well, I'm so excited.
- 1:01:33Elouise and Chris are on their way.
- 1:01:34They're coming to visit us for a couple of days and then we're
- 1:01:37back at it. I did end up moving dogs up
- 1:01:41since we aren't in Florida, but it's actually going to work out
- 1:01:46really, really great because we have a ton of boarding dogs over
- 1:01:50spring break because of course people want to leave Wisconsin.
- 1:01:53So moved up some of the training dogs so that it's not going to
- 1:01:56be as heavy in the mid March, which I'm happy about so I bet.
- 1:02:01You're excited to get back in the swing of.
- 1:02:03Pants, yeah, definitely. And especially if it is going to
- 1:02:05be a little bit chillier. We're supposed to have
- 1:02:07tomorrow's supposed to be like 50 something, but it helps me
- 1:02:10stay moving and going outside having dogs here because if not
- 1:02:14like I would love to stay in my house and not do a whole lot.
- 1:02:17But really I yes, in the cold, like I will do like my walking
- 1:02:22pad, But I do find that I don't go outside as much and being
- 1:02:26outside for me is medicine. So I with this kind of weather,
- 1:02:31I do have to kind of like force myself because it's, it's great
- 1:02:34today. It's we're.
- 1:02:34Great. Outside, yeah.
- 1:02:36There were such good influences with getting us outside
- 1:02:39yesterday. I literally went over to this.
- 1:02:42I started pulling down the shades and I was looking at
- 1:02:44Bobby like, uh oh, I know I haven't been doing this but I
- 1:02:48really need some like cozy dark vibes.
- 1:02:51But then I have been getting outside more.
- 1:02:53Good, good. I love that.
- 1:02:54And I saw that you took Louis on a bike ride, which is so cute.
- 1:02:58I did. I took her and Bonnie the other
- 1:03:01day to that big field. Yeah, love that.
- 1:03:05Yeah. Good.
- 1:03:07All right. Well, I'm going to go get ready.
- 1:03:08You know what I mean?
