- 0:24In this pit stop Mini.
- 0:26So we return to Donald c Davidson's Storytelling with
- 0:29a nostalgic return to Watkins.
- 0:31Glenn reminiscing about his first visit in 1972 and subsequent visits until 1977.
- 0:37Donald shares detailed stories about early experiences at the US Grand
- 0:41Prix interactions with legendary drivers like Jackie Stewart and Nikki
- 0:45Lauda, and the unique culture of the racing community at that time.
- 0:49His anecdotes highlight the camaraderie among drivers and fans.
- 0:52And Donald vividly recalls the vibrant atmosphere at events such as those held
- 0:56throughout the village and the track.
- 0:58He also reflects on the unchanged charm of the area, despite the passage
- 1:02of time and shares, humorous and poignant incidents from the heyday
- 1:05of Formula One at Watkins Glen.
- 1:08It's really a kit to be here.
- 1:09It's kind of a pinch me situation to actually be returning to Rock Glen.
- 1:15I've never been to the research library before because my years at the Glen
- 1:20far seed, the research library, first time I came out here was in 1972, and
- 1:26the most recent time that I've been here private this weekend was 1977.
- 1:31And it came about because of the fact that one of my mentors, a gentleman who
- 1:37I had read because he wrote some, a great historian by the name of Charles Life, and
- 1:44I know he's very, very important to the.
- 1:48And then I think probably the majority of you are either at least
- 1:53familiar with him and maybe some of you had interaction with him.
- 1:57He was an extraordinary gentleman from Sharon, Pennsylvania.
- 2:01With all due respect to everybody, of all the people that I ever met,
- 2:06I felt that he was the best of the historians of the very early days.
- 2:12Although he was American, he was very English in his whole approach.
- 2:17Uh, the way that he.
- 2:18Spoke and the fact that he had a great affection to do it and solve operas and,
- 2:22and, uh, married a British lady, very, very British in his whole approach.
- 2:28A delight for gentleman and he was interested in Indianapolis
- 2:32and went back there for years.
- 2:34But he was real in, was sort of like the road racing types of the very early days
- 2:41and he made a number of trips to Europe.
- 2:44I dunno when the first one would be, but certainly late.
- 2:48Mid 50.
- 2:49He went to Europe several times and he would go and visit
- 2:55drivers who had participated.
- 2:58You know, I'm not talking just before World War I, I'm talking to city Racers
- 3:02because he was an expert on Paris to Madrid and Paris and all, and he would
- 3:10show me these photographs and or whoever.
- 3:14He had all the, on all these people.
- 3:18Participated in 1898 and then, uh, through the, the very early 19 hundreds.
- 3:24So just extraordinary hand.
- 3:26But anyway, I had written to him private meeting, my first trip to Indianapolis.
- 3:32I wrote to probably a half a dozen people.
- 3:35And, uh, one of the questions that I, because I would, I would
- 3:39read the climb year book year with the section in the back.
- 3:44Where there would be a little brief story by Charles Light, and then these
- 3:49photographs that typically would've 2, 3, 4, 5 people lined up to this day.
- 3:57I can spot a rifle of print across the room because know they had their own
- 4:01particular stamp on 'em, and what he did was to take photographs of veterans.
- 4:06It was wonderful to be able to see what these people looked like.
- 4:11Long before there was a 500 timers flood at the track, but
- 4:15that wasn't formed until 1961.
- 4:18But the Speedway was always a gathering place for all of these people and
- 4:22that they were welcome with open arms.
- 4:24But if you drove 25 years ago once and finished glass, you
- 4:29were welcome with open arms.
- 4:31And so everybody would come back and some of them just come for a few days.
- 4:34Others would spend the entire month, they'd bring scrap books, puddle
- 4:39album, just a huge gathering, you know, camaraderie amongst people that have
- 4:44run 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 years before.
- 4:49And Charlotte recall this on film.
- 4:52And so the fact that I, I knew of.
- 4:56Reading the planner yearbooks over a period or seven years of coming to uh,
- 5:01realize what a great historian he was.
- 5:04There were several questions that I had about the early days,
- 5:08specifically some of the early writers.
- 5:11I didn't know a first name, he just an initial or nothing.
- 5:15So very, very European and that for those you here, I'm probably a number
- 5:20of tangent that I'll do if auto car.
- 5:26Or whatever it was.
- 5:27And you go back sixties, 50 forties, the drivers went by
- 5:34because they first name here.
- 5:36So anyway, I was curious as to if you might know who somebody
- 5:39in World War One era were first.
- 5:43So came back from the fifth Pennsylvania and he answered the, uh,
- 5:51the questions on a number of them.
- 5:53So I can't say exactly what year that was.
- 5:56Was probably 1962.
- 5:58I was sort of, you know, on my way to eventually making the trip.
- 6:03So I remember when I first arrived at the track, and it's a whole
- 6:07long story that he was one of the first people that I encountered.
- 6:11And I remember that when I went up and gave my name, he turned
- 6:15around and I, he was probably, I don't know, five foot seven.
- 6:19And as a friend of mine would describe a ground.
- 6:23And, uh, he always had three, four cameras on around his, a quick line on that, but
- 6:30I wasn't even gonna tell it, just me.
- 6:32But, uh, anyway, he was, he wore this white shirt, typically
- 6:36never a tie turned around.
- 6:41My name.
- 6:42He sort of turned around and almost scooted attention and said, sir,
- 6:47I am very pleased to meet you.
- 6:50And uh, he apparently was, was taken because of the fact that
- 6:53I was asking about these follows from, uh, from the early days.
- 6:56Well, from that point on, he became very important in my life as he
- 7:03wasn't because started introducing me to a lot of the old time that.
- 7:11Sitting there and know about what they look like.
- 7:15White photographs and I meeting three people in full color, those of
- 7:20you that were familiar with Vital, he would take photographs of all
- 7:25these people and then send them it.
- 7:27Either give the person a print when next saw him, which probably next
- 7:32May, or he would send gifts and.
- 7:39All time's.
- 7:40So he had cameras, usually three or four, you know, one
- 7:45in front, one down this side.
- 7:47And somebody wants to ask him, why do you carry so many cameras?
- 7:51And he said, well, this is four slides.
- 7:55This is 35 millimeter in black and white.
- 7:58And I can't remember what, what the third one was.
- 8:01But anyway, the fourth one said, now this camera here is for those internal people
- 8:06that come up and say, would you take.
- 8:09So and so that has no film.
- 8:18To move along a little bit, my first trip to the track was 1964, and it was
- 8:23a three week holiday exploratory visit.
- 8:27Things worked out so well that I return the next year, five on a one
- 8:32ticket curve and just flying blind,
- 8:37which.
- 8:39Nice Day Club.
- 8:40A very gay man named Henry Banks hired me to work at usag, so
- 8:45that's a whole nother story.
- 8:46But Charles, I would come and spend the great heart of the month, so I
- 8:52spend a lot of time with him, go and so on, and wonderful, wonderful stories.
- 8:59He had the connection with Watkins Glen, that goes back to the very,
- 9:02very beginning, and I'm not sure about this, but I think he might
- 9:07have been one of the original eight.
- 9:0910 members of America when the first bomb.
- 9:13I mean he was right in on the grand level and also involved with Blackman
- 9:19Glen from the very start over a period of years, of course, you history to up
- 9:27on top of the eventually United States free, and he was a part of all of that.
- 9:32And I think his title was, he would say to, I had.
- 9:39Free racing.
- 9:39That's basically what I was raised on, except that to me, going free
- 9:44racing was two 50 s and Ferrari and, and, and then, you know, rear
- 9:51engine and the whole thing up.
- 9:57So anyway, I also like people to say, come to Rutland.
- 10:02And I thought one and a half liter, rear inch, little, tiny little purge.
- 10:07And they don't do Gary power slaves like they used to, you know, Peter
- 10:10Collins and Mike anymore, and cast lobby and muo and course our governor.
- 10:17It's just elite bricks driving around and these little pedal car things.
- 10:21So,
- 10:24but anyway, uh, so he would've said year after year come to do, come.
- 10:30And so finally 19.
- 10:33That I went up.
- 10:34So I ended up, I was up here in 72, 3, 4, and five, and not in 76.
- 10:41Uh, I had a major conflict where I, I wasn't even in the country,
- 10:47and then 77 was the final.
- 10:49But anyway, I came up the first year and bro racing had changed quite a bit
- 10:55from what I had fallen in love with.
- 10:57But my guys were right here and get to be in.
- 11:02All in really the end of yet another era because although it seems dramatically,
- 11:10there were still the private years.
- 11:13And uh, for those of you, and I know many, I mean, I normally don't get into
- 11:17this except that I know that so many of you have lived through this yourself.
- 11:22So you come to Watkins Glen, the little village of Watkins Glen
- 11:27for the Grand pri and uh, so we went to where we were gonna get.
- 11:33And I was thinking that it was a high school.
- 11:37St. Mary's, St. Mary's.
- 11:39And, uh, so we, we, we drove by that, uh, by there last
- 11:43time, the last couple of days.
- 11:45And building looked familiar, but I was thinking that we had gone down on another
- 11:49street A little bit further is, um, that we went into this like a gymnasium with a
- 11:57four just like this with card tables set.
- 12:03The body heads.
- 12:04And I think that there was, the basketball nets were hanging and this is where
- 12:09you went to get your credentials.
- 12:11Everybody.
- 12:12And here's Jackie Stewart.
- 12:14You know James Hunt, uh, because early, or, uh, now I'm getting myself in trouble,
- 12:21but remember that, uh, I had met Jackie Stewart at several years before, so I
- 12:25talking a little bit and then I remember that he was right in front of me and then
- 12:29he turned around and then French came in.
- 12:32And then stuck a finger in, in the back of his ribs and just did one of these.
- 12:37And I thought, isn't this amazing?
- 12:40Here's this little gymnasium and the drivers of, of the world, Ronnie
- 12:46Peterson, and, you know, uh, and uh, eggs and all these other people
- 12:50are coming here together cred.
- 12:53Then the other thing that was just amazing was when you went
- 12:56out to big, it's the Kendall Tech Center is up on top of the hill.
- 13:03And the general public are permitted to go down through the middle and out the other
- 13:08side and all of the teams land up there.
- 13:11There's no motive coaches, there's no $500,000 followers.
- 13:15There's no sequestered away from the general public.
- 13:19There were all these phases, and I don't dunno if this sound wrong, but
- 13:24it was almost like it was the state fair and that all of the places where
- 13:29the people would show their livestock.
- 13:36It was everybody.
- 13:37That was just astonishing to me, and I thought, I hope you people that are
- 13:42doing this really appreciate it because I don't know that was gonna be like this.
- 13:48I mean, even at the time I was astounded that, that it was still like that.
- 13:53You know, sure enough, they, they had the line of people and uh, that they would
- 13:58go through the tech center and Ferrari.
- 14:02You know, the, the stewards and, and, uh,
- 14:08and everybody, you know, because they were all there and you sometimes you
- 14:12see the drivers changing bottles and, uh, they're doing the driver, the deep
- 14:16debriefing and there's guys sitting there in jack shorts and all with the engineers.
- 14:22And I don't know that if anybody had a computer there,
- 14:25but I mean, there would be you.
- 14:27The engineers have to clipboard and these discussions going.
- 14:32Watch all of this.
- 14:34And then the other thing too that we've been talking about a lot the last
- 14:37few days was that how did the CARSs get from the tech center down to the
- 14:43pits and from the pits back up to the tech center, the mechanics drove 'em.
- 14:48And, and then we would hear this engine would fire up and then he would,
- 14:52uh, would be the car either going up the hill at speed or down the hill.
- 14:57And uh, more often than not, there would be one or two other people.
- 15:02Riding on the car, on the side car would be the follow with the tool
- 15:07chips hanging onto the mo car.
- 15:09I have no idea what speeds they were doing, but I mean they
- 15:12had to be 70, 80 plus an hour.
- 15:15And I was very surprised because already I was thinking that liability,
- 15:21that people could just sort of stand back at the side of the road and then
- 15:25three or four were on pretty cars would come up with the mechanic, no helmet,
- 15:29an massive hair flying around the.
- 15:32Just a similar color I stayed at, which was this place
- 15:37with all kinds of character.
- 15:39I, I'm supposed to be talking about Indianapolis,
- 15:44what I state in the, the motel that was out in the Charles.
- 15:51I think that I stayed in room number one.
- 15:54I know it was on the lower level and I drove by there this morning.
- 15:59Actually, the motel unit still there.
- 16:03Then, uh, the Jefferson was this wonderful place, and I dunno when that
- 16:08was, but it was pretty 1900 I think.
- 16:11Was it like maybe 1880s or 1840s?
- 16:131840s.
- 16:14Okay.
- 16:14Well, so when we were in there.
- 16:18There were no carpets on the floors.
- 16:20And, and I, I think that they served food in, in, uh, I think there were
- 16:25two or three different rooms by fall and a hard floor, no carpets.
- 16:30And they had these strange windows and it really looked like, I mean, we
- 16:35expected the ghost from blind skirt come in the no power to come in.
- 16:41You had those picture, you had Rob Walker and, uh, everybody with the.
- 16:48Were such that every clink of a plate or, or, uh, you know, when, when
- 16:54anybody would get up and they would spray their chair and, uh, everybody
- 16:58was on top of each other, just stick around and, and see all these people.
- 17:03I don't think any rider stayed there except I know one year.
- 17:08A right above me was Tom Price.
- 17:10Not much is known about Tom Price, except that because he was very, very quiet.
- 17:17Well, not when he was walking around.
- 17:19He wasn't never, ever in my life stayed in a room or was ever in
- 17:25any situation with the floor above.
- 17:28Was somebody literally around and I mean, this was, you know,
- 17:33over three, four day period.
- 17:38Stamp, stamp, stamp, stamp stand, and all the, everything.
- 17:43But, uh, I went to a, a friend of mine, I, I don't remember the first
- 17:48time I went to the blame motor court.
- 17:50I know this.
- 17:50It's not that anymore.
- 17:51And that, that's, that's, that's the blame motor court for some of this.
- 17:57So I don't remember the first time that was in there for sure,
- 18:01but I know that in 1975 was.
- 18:07Station Indianapolis.
- 18:09He was originally from Cape Cod.
- 18:10That doesn't matter.
- 18:11Being in several different radio stations.
- 18:13Young guy, probably mid twenties, I suppose, his radio life off him to
- 18:19Indianapolis, so he's a 10 70 IBC.
- 18:22I don't think he knew anything and somebody took him out the fact one day and
- 18:26fire going on and he met Johnny brother.
- 18:29And then the next thing, he became a huge racing enthusiast
- 18:33and it became a formula wind off.
- 18:35It all happened in a hurry.
- 18:36For some reason he hooked onto Nick Louder, and Nikki
- 18:41louder then was just his God.
- 18:44And so he and a lady friend who was Kenner's wife, they
- 18:50came up here in 80, in, in 75.
- 18:52And I had come with Charles Light because, and uh, I guess this is
- 18:57getting a little more personal than I planned, but Charles Life, the final
- 19:02year that he came up here was 1975.
- 19:05And he was not able to drive anymore.
- 19:08And it ended up that I was able to repay, you know, years and years
- 19:13of, of favors by driving from Indianapolis to she in Pennsylvania.
- 19:18I picked him up.
- 19:20And then, uh, wrote him up to wa Glen and stayed in the same room with 'em.
- 19:24And, you know, basically was Steve Ur was equally great because we
- 19:29were allowed to park the car down at the south end of the pit and store.
- 19:33Their marsh would come by and Chris Aon would come by and all
- 19:36these people looking in the window.
- 19:38And, uh, all I had to do was just sit there with Charles that time.
- 19:42We were invited to dinner and, uh, so this friend of mine and he said, uh, we're
- 19:48gonna have dinner at the bland motor port.
- 19:50And I thought, I said, good luck getting in there.
- 19:52He said, no, I, I've checked if we get there early enough,
- 19:55we can get a good seat.
- 19:57So.
- 19:58I don't remember what time we got there, but it was probably like five
- 20:01o'clock or five 30 or something.
- 20:04The place was, I don't know, maybe half full, but it was beginning to pick up.
- 20:09I'm sure that probably many of you, if not all, have done the Glen
- 20:13Motor Court experience and five.
- 20:15Then it was amazing because then drivers stayed there.
- 20:18I remember over in the corner, Carlos Waitman and Carlos were right
- 20:24over in the corner, just the two of them in very deep conversations.
- 20:27Different people would come in and out.
- 20:29I remember Jody Scheer came in in a tennis outfit with a rack and
- 20:35he came in evidently looking for somebody that wasn't in there.
- 20:39And then he left and then comes in with a black leather jacket with the collar
- 20:44turned up and which reminds me of another
- 20:491972.
- 20:50It was almost very, very nice guy.
- 20:52But he gave, had a little bit of a massive look about him and black jacket.
- 20:57Collar turned up hands in his pockets.
- 21:00And, um, he looked like he was looking for a fight while I, you know, he was
- 21:04a really nice guy, but I remember that.
- 21:06So, uh, there was a table vacant next to us, and here's my friend Matt.
- 21:12And we're looking at all these people coming in and out and then all of sudden.
- 21:16Oh, omega God.
- 21:17Oh, omega God.
- 21:18Oh my God.
- 21:18The Champion game just came in and we looked up and here's Dick Louder, who
- 21:23just arrived with another guy with him that was Heinz Ula, who was an
- 21:27author, I, anybody knows, name wrote.
- 21:31And I think he did it.
- 21:32Maybe a couple.
- 21:34Matt is just completely, oh, okay.
- 21:38He's in.
- 21:39He's insane.
- 21:39I'm insane.
- 21:40Whatever.
- 21:41What?
- 21:41It got better because this vacant table louder and Hanz Kohler sat
- 21:47right next to us and Charles was so amused because to him, you know, the
- 21:53great drivers were, uh, you know.
- 21:56It yours below a Christian Uchin, Schlager.
- 22:00You know anybody that's sort of come along in, in the, in the forties and fifties
- 22:04and sixties, he didn't take it seriously.
- 22:07You know, Nick Lau was sort of just like the latest of the month
- 22:11was gonna be gone in those time.
- 22:12And then, so he was needling.
- 22:15And I bring this up because for anyone, any of you who may have gone in, are
- 22:20there people, in fact, that went into the Glen Motor Court in the seventies?
- 22:24I don't know if this is still there or not, but right under where you
- 22:28were sitting, there was a painting.
- 22:31If anybody remember this, it is Nick Lau in a Ferrari, and I think there might have
- 22:36been one other car instead of a racetrack.
- 22:39It was sort of like on the beach in faded light.
- 22:42The tie come in in, does anybody remember that?
- 22:45It was the Ferrari with the, I don't know what this guy was saying, but uh, but
- 22:52it was actually with the, uh, it was an action shop, so it looked like a Michael
- 22:57Turner, but it wasn't a Michael Turner.
- 22:59And he, and he splashed him through this water.
- 23:02So Louder was talking to Heinz cooler and, and at one point he sort of looks
- 23:07up at the thing and then I was able to say, why are you driving in the sea?
- 23:12And so I don't remember what the response was, but anyway, it just
- 23:15made that stay and I don't know.
- 23:17Why I brought this up other than the, I'm just a horrendous name dropper.
- 23:23Talking about the first year that I came out here.
- 23:28It was great because Charles took me to all these places.
- 23:30I mean, had access to everything.
- 23:33It was the Onyx Club at the time.
- 23:36They had a champagne party there.
- 23:39It was the last year.
- 23:40They had done this for several years, but because of, uh, financial considerations
- 23:45that ended up that this, it.
- 23:47To the last one that they had.
- 23:49They would in invite a lot of participants to go to this thing.
- 23:53I mean, it was very in and the Onyx Club to me, it, it was, so,
- 23:58it was like going to a ski lodge.
- 24:01It was the first week in October, so it would get dark, but like five 30
- 24:06and it would be pitch black by seven.
- 24:09And so here's.
- 24:11Everybody under this party.
- 24:13And I remember, uh, Ron AK was there and Sam Cozy, and on and on and on.
- 24:19Anyway, the Ferrari team were detained because they were having a debriefing.
- 24:25And I'll never forget this.
- 24:26I just happened to be standing by the door and all was opening, and
- 24:30it was a little bit, Nicky, you know, it would get frosty up here.
- 24:34And so Carney is now in full swing.
- 24:38And here came the three Ferrari drivers, and I'll never forget this.
- 24:42It was, uh, Jackie s Re, and Mario with a Ferrari team, and they
- 24:49arrived from their debriefing.
- 24:50They still had the uniform on.
- 24:53And then the Fred Ferrari Firestone jackets and we thought collar
- 24:57turned out and they stood there.
- 25:01And you know, when Mario entered her room, not the tallest guy that has ever
- 25:05been, but he had a presence about him.
- 25:07I've been in several situations where Mario comes in and everything stops.
- 25:11And there's written, there's no punchline to this except that he
- 25:15would come into a room as he did that night and he would stand there.
- 25:19And it reminded me of Jack Counts in.
- 25:23Mario didn't attack their pistols, he would stand there and just kind of
- 25:27go, was on, they would just come into the room and kind of stand, make this
- 25:35with the polish turned up.
- 25:36Anyway, I'll, so just these little images, I am gonna move on, but
- 25:42I'll give you a couple more images.
- 25:44That one that was just given to me by the son of the famous name, will
- 25:49Shaw had a son, bill Shaw, and.
- 25:53Of you may have ever had a connection with him.
- 25:56Uh, he's actually Warren Wilber.
- 25:59He's just a delightful person and he did race for a while, all posted going to
- 26:05Ramon in sometime in the early seventies.
- 26:08He was an instructor for Bob Bond for several years, so some of
- 26:12you may have run into him there.
- 26:14But, uh, anyway, he's lived in the Indianapolis area for number years now,
- 26:18so I told him what he needed coming.
- 26:23About a week ago and he said, wow, the Glen.
- 26:27I said, did you ever run up there?
- 26:29And he said, no.
- 26:31But he said, I actually went there once And he said, I went with a
- 26:36student of mine who was gonna run in an SECA regional, and he said he was
- 26:40working in Washington at the time.
- 26:42He said, I went in there and even though though it was a regional meet,
- 26:47he said I got, I started getting images of what had gone before and he
- 26:54said I had these flashes of grab 'em, obscure and Clark, and he said, I've
- 27:00never been there before, but he said it was really kind of overwhelming.
- 27:03He said, I could hear the sounds, the smell, the smells.
- 27:06And, uh, he said, I said, I got goosebumps thinking about it.
- 27:10He said, yeah.
- 27:11He said, I got goosebumps then.
- 27:12And I got goosebumps now just talking about it.
- 27:15This is just like a week ago.
- 27:16And I said, I know exactly what you mean.
- 27:18And he kept saying, wow.
- 27:21Wow.
- 27:21So, and, and when, when this was, I have no idea, but I mean now,
- 27:25might have been 30 years ago.
- 27:27So, you know, the place has this wonderful presence.
- 27:30I got a little blank story to tell here after some of the
- 27:34opinions expressed herein.
- 27:36May not necessarily be those of the management.
- 27:42A blank story, and I don't know if this is true or not, and I do nothing to.
- 27:47Be a negative about the place.
- 27:49But I do remember the smoke in 1974 rising from a, an infamous
- 27:56area that, uh, that probably the locals were driving not talk about.
- 28:01I get asked about the state, but the racetrack all the time, and I know that
- 28:05the locals just assume, not acknowledge that there had ever been the bob.
- 28:09But anyway, the reason for bringing that up was that the first year that I was
- 28:14up here, it rained a lot and I. By how large the crowd was, but also the makeup.
- 28:23I mean, you would hear the foreign accents, so obviously there were people
- 28:26that were comfortable overseas and then you had to fall overseas that lived here.
- 28:30But then also there seemed to be a lot of college types, and I saw fatigue
- 28:35jackets, I saw long hair, and I saw a number of couples where the male and the
- 28:43female was joined by a piece of twine or.
- 28:48Remember that not making it up.
- 28:49And you'd see the guy would have a, a wine bottle and there would be like
- 28:54a piece of twine around his wrist.
- 28:56And that the lady friend who was also wearing, uh, Danni and uh, and Pete would
- 29:03be, you know, a few feet preferred a mine.
- 29:06Anybody.
- 29:08I'm not making that up.
- 29:18Which I think was probably 73, 7 4.
- 29:21I didn't read this on Wikipedia or get it on a blog years later.
- 29:24I remember at the time the story was that there was a well to do
- 29:29person, uh, involved with a team.
- 29:32They wanted a team member.
- 29:33They were like a go.
- 29:35They were huge and eager to do anything that needed to be done.
- 29:38So one of the teams needed something that the fellow said, I can get it.
- 29:43And he went down to the village and it's at night.
- 29:47So he went down to the village in this very expensive automobile and
- 29:51he comes back, he got lost and he's at the circuit, but he couldn't find
- 29:56his way to the Campbell tech center.
- 29:58And he's driving around and he's driving around and he gets over into
- 30:02the block area with all thousands of.
- 30:06And so he's going down this little road and, and everybody's sort of,
- 30:10kind of just sw walking back and forth, you know, the bonfires are gone and
- 30:15the, the parties are in full swing.
- 30:17He, his progress is being impeded for the, gets to the point where he stopped and
- 30:23so they start making a big fuss at this car and they're banging on the roof and
- 30:28then they start rocking the car at night.
- 30:30Panic some things.
- 30:32I better get out of here.
- 30:33So he gets on with thro and as he takes off, he feels a bump and he thinks,
- 30:39oh my God, I think I've maneuver one.
- 30:41So he keeps going and he thought, well, I have to report this
- 30:45to the, uh, to the police.
- 30:47So he drove around to wherever the police were.
- 30:50And it seems to me that there was this little cinder block building with,
- 30:54uh, you know, a piece of wire with a, you know, naked light bulb in there.
- 30:59So the guy comes back, sees this building, goes in there and there's
- 31:04like three policemen sitting in there.
- 31:07So he said, I wanna report something.
- 31:09Uh, he said, I think I ran over somebody.
- 31:12And, uh, so they don't move particularly and.
- 31:18It was over in the back where all of the, uh, you know, where all
- 31:22the hot camps are, and they said, did you get a look at the person?
- 31:25And they, he said, well, no, because they looked the same all Glen
- 31:31jacket.
- 31:32But I think that I. And so they said, ah, don't worry about it.
- 31:37We'll find it in the morning.
- 31:38Or, I dunno if that's true or not, but I I probably should have called that story.
- 31:44Alright,
- 31:47let's, uh, we need to be talking about the Indianapolis people Get into that yet, so.
- 31:53I mean, to come to the Glen, have those experiences in in 7 3, 7 3,
- 31:577 4, and then drive around today and then see how will those change.
- 32:03But you know, the Glen Motor Court named Subtle Change, but it's still there.
- 32:07I actually pulled to the parking lot and just sat there and,
- 32:10and just reed a little bit.
- 32:12And I went by, you know, the Jefferson is gone, but the motel units are, are out
- 32:17in Maxville and they were green, brown.
- 32:20But I actually sat there.
- 32:23On both sides of the road and, and just, uh, nossal.
