Transcript
- 0:00How good is this week? I haven't been excited by a game of rugby like this for a long, long time.
- 0:06What do you think Rusty's going to do, Victor?
- 0:09I think that aerial contest is going to be so important.
- 0:12So happy for our girls and I mean, you see that the emotion after that game,
- 0:16that's a big turn around for women's rugby and South Africa.
- 0:19How many Kiwi backs would make a rugby championship all-stars team?
- 0:24I'd put Bowden.
- 0:26You sure?
- 0:27Well, you can't even decide who your first five is,
- 0:29maybe at least we can.
- 0:36Right, welcome to Rivals and when you're talking about rivalry,
- 0:41that's what this week ends all about.
- 0:43The All Blacks versus South Africa at Eden Park.
- 0:47The Fortress. So it'll look at them.
- 0:50Look how excited they are.
- 0:52Oh, boys, go to the box down.
- 0:57I knew that I was going to come out early.
- 0:59Like, it doesn't honestly look at that, mate.
- 1:03Did you hand make that?
- 1:04It's a saying world champions, let's say.
- 1:07Yeah, it probably says it four times, like you do.
- 1:09It says world champions, like you do four times every show, Victor.
- 1:14I had the New Zealand fans are very happy to have four time world champions there.
- 1:20And you can't do it on it.
- 1:21It's a real cool.
- 1:23For the first time in a year,
- 1:24favorites, mate.
- 1:25World champions, your favorites.
- 1:27Your favorites.
- 1:28Can you both calm down?
- 1:29I can't calm down.
- 1:31Ricardo, how good is this week?
- 1:33I haven't been excited by a game of rugby,
- 1:36like this for a long, long time.
- 1:38It's amazing.
- 1:40It's so like there's so much at stake.
- 1:42It doesn't get much bigger than this, honestly.
- 1:45You know, we'll cut, yeah, Victor, we were both over there.
- 1:48And, you know, those quarter final games were great.
- 1:50The final was great, but this is amazing.
- 1:52This is like history.
- 1:53I'm worth it.
- 1:54So John Kerwin on this one.
- 1:57I think the bull that has been for so long,
- 2:00everyone's been waiting for this.
- 2:02I mean, this is a record that all blacks are really proud of.
- 2:08If these one team that can maybe come do it, maybe.
- 2:12I still think the all blacks are the favorite to defend their record.
- 2:16Then there's this team that's won everything that's come through so many things
- 2:24to be successful.
- 2:25And again, after that Australian loss,
- 2:28they had to go a bit back and have a look at themselves.
- 2:32And, yeah, let's see the base of the springboard question.
- 2:36I think that interesting thing for me, Victor,
- 2:40is I don't think both teams are in their best form at the moment,
- 2:44which makes it even more intriguing, you know.
- 2:47You saw the performance against Argentina,
- 2:53and we saw your performance against Australia, and the second test, you know,
- 2:58it was like a contrast, wasn't it?
- 3:00Like, we were pretty good in the first test, and the second test,
- 3:02Argentina got up and better.
- 3:03And I don't think either teams are actually on form.
- 3:08So I still think you guys are slight favorites.
- 3:12And I know that you're scared of being favorites,
- 3:15because you don't believe the team handles it.
- 3:17But, like, for me,
- 3:20it is just like the lineups are exciting.
- 3:23What are we going to do selection-wise?
- 3:24What are you guys going to do selection-wise?
- 3:26You know, like, for me, it's just like one of those weeks where you go,
- 3:30bring it on, just how quickly can we get to Saturday?
- 3:33Yeah, I think the whole week's going to be great.
- 3:35The ball's up, like you say.
- 3:37It's New Zealand going to stick with exactly the same side.
- 3:42They've played the last three, four games.
- 3:44The spring boxer has played around to the team.
- 3:46And they can make a few adjustments.
- 3:50They even brought a guy, like, far from the outside, all of a sudden.
- 3:53He can bring something different to a test match.
- 3:56I mean, he brings a lot of energy to any test match and to any team.
- 3:59Will they throw him in off the bench, maybe to breathe in something different for us?
- 4:05So, yeah, it's going to be great.
- 4:08But like we say, I think we all love history.
- 4:11And there's so much history between the All Blacks and the spring box.
- 4:16I mean, the All Blacks are really proud of the record that they've got at Eden Park.
- 4:20And I've said it a few times on the show.
- 4:22I've gone to this venue where we were the favourites.
- 4:25Peter, New Zealand, three times in a row going into it.
- 4:29Having the bulls and the stormers playing.
- 4:31Super at refining.
- 4:33Just thinking everything has gained great.
- 4:35And then we walked ourselves into a very motivated New Zealand team.
- 4:40And I actually think that was probably the start of that run for them to win the two World Cup
- 4:46back-to-back as well.
- 4:47So, yeah, it's going to be massive.
- 4:50I can't wait to see what Rossi's plans are, what's Razor going to do.
- 4:56So, yeah, it's great.
- 4:57And I think the risk that these for both teams, from both countries is just unbelievable as well.
- 5:04What do you think Rossi's going to do, Victor?
- 5:08It's interesting to, we need to see, we've got one or two injuries.
- 5:11So, Bungie's not there.
- 5:13He stayed behind.
- 5:16So, we'll probably see Malcolm Marks there.
- 5:18Atatete, I wonder if you'll go with Thomas Etouard again.
- 5:24Go for a long time or will he start with a walk of love and then bring on Thomas a bit later.
- 5:30We might even have to move Thomas to the Lucy as well.
- 5:33Second Ross is going to be a very interesting.
- 5:36I think Evan will be back in the starting lineup.
- 5:39It will be interesting if he goes for Louis the Yacht,
- 5:42who's the bigger, more experienced car or will he go for a run or care.
- 5:48I think he'll run or care every time he had an opportunity with just outstanding.
- 5:52He's almost like a Franco-Morsitz.
- 5:54He's got this big engine on him.
- 5:56He can run for days.
- 5:58He's always there.
- 6:00Very high work rate and at line-up time, I think he always comes up with a very good plan as well.
- 6:06So, that's going to be an interesting selection.
- 6:10Luckily, Peter Steph and CR's back in.
- 6:13So, it will be interesting to see
- 6:15Quachara, a very good game at eight starting, but we know his impact of the bench
- 6:22are preferring off the bench.
- 6:25But Jasper, Viser can still not go.
- 6:27So, that will be interesting.
- 6:29And then, 19.
- 6:30I can't see him not going with Andre polarity.
- 6:33I just can't see it.
- 6:35But he might still do it.
- 6:36Maybe he starts with Marnie, starts with open game and then bring Andre on.
- 6:41I don't know, but I don't think so.
- 6:42I think we'll go with Andre.
- 6:44We'll be conservative.
- 6:45So, in the background, we'll probably see pretty much the same faces that we used to.
- 6:50Isn't it interesting, though, Victor, that he's got so many options,
- 6:54so many decisions to make.
- 6:56You know, most international coaches, really, there's like 15, 18 players,
- 7:00that are going to likely start most test matches.
- 7:02But what's that advocate?
- 7:04You know, that's both a strength and is of the weakness,
- 7:06because it's hard to get those combinations and that cohesion going on.
- 7:10Well, I think it's a great point, Ricardo, and for me, the interesting thing is
- 7:18we spoke about this a couple of episodes ago.
- 7:21New Zealand doesn't really do the experiments like Russi's done, right?
- 7:27We stick with our players, but what happens is when you get in a situation like this,
- 7:31when you're coming off the loss to Argentina, it means that the guys haven't played.
- 7:38So, you know, what Victor's talking about is this internal competition,
- 7:43and most of those have played over the series, right?
- 7:46So, it's like, well, which one are you going to pick?
- 7:48Whereas, I think the dilemma for the All Blacks is,
- 7:52I won't say panic, because I don't think it's panic.
- 7:55So, do you stick with the same side?
- 7:57Or do you go, actually, I'm going to bring...
- 8:01I'm going to put...
- 8:02So, here are some of the choices that I think Razor's got to make.
- 8:05Do I put Rico back to centre?
- 8:13All right, putting him back to centre, he's our best-defending centre,
- 8:15and I think Proctor's going to be amazing,
- 8:18but I think it's South Africa, and I think he's still learning the trade at the next level.
- 8:24And if you're going to do that, what do you do on the wing?
- 8:26Do you actually bring in someone like, no, do you?
- 8:30Or do you give someone like Lee Roy Carter ago, who's incredibly fast, you know?
- 8:36So, in the midfield, you put those two guys back together.
- 8:38I think, Krista, we've got a lot of injuries at Half-Ex,
- 8:40I think Krista starts with Barrett.
- 8:42And then, number eight, I don't think they'll back up with the young guy.
- 8:46I think they'll go back to Satiti, Viand, and Adi at seven.
- 8:54I think you've sort of got to go there.
- 8:56And then, I think the locking combination will stay the same in the front.
- 9:00You see, Vi is working on the Blindside Flanker.
- 9:04Won't it be better to move him back to second row?
- 9:06Well, for who?
- 9:09That's trouble.
- 9:13Well, that's your options.
- 9:16But we haven't seen too much of the other guys at Loose Forward.
- 9:23So, what do you do there?
- 9:26And so, for me, Holland has been a revelation.
- 9:31And I just think he was a bit, I think he was a bit overplayed.
- 9:34So, he got a bit tired towards the end of the Argentinian test,
- 9:37but he's had a bit of time to refresh.
- 9:39So, we need big bodies against you guys, right?
- 9:42We need big bodies.
- 9:44And that's where I think, and you would have played them,
- 9:47you know, Rochelleck and Whitelock, that combination there,
- 9:49they were big men, right?
- 9:51So, we had big men against big men.
- 9:54And I think that's important.
- 9:55So, you know, Holland's a big body.
- 9:57He's going to move bodies.
- 9:58He's going to do stuff like that.
- 10:00But for me, the selection is not, or who's playing best.
- 10:03It's, oh, wow, am I going to take a risk
- 10:05in putting someone new out there and change some combinations?
- 10:08Or is he just going to go, actually, it was a one-off.
- 10:12So, I'm just going to stick with the side that started.
- 10:15But if we don't sort our high ball kick out,
- 10:18our infield tactical kicking, you know,
- 10:22the first thing that South Africa is going to do
- 10:24is going to go to that high ball.
- 10:26And we need to catch it, right?
- 10:27So, yeah, it's actually recorders.
- 10:30For me, as well, I watch that, it's Southlands versus
- 10:34Waikato game on Saturday morning.
- 10:36So, I think New Zealand do have just as much talent as we do.
- 10:40It's just they don't get the opportunity to play.
- 10:43I think Gracie has started something here.
- 10:46We give his guys the opportunity.
- 10:48And he backs him to being in the number one team.
- 10:50Doesn't matter if we put out there,
- 10:52he'll be 15 changes, but he backs him as number one.
- 10:56And he just, he doesn't racely say his first 15 plays all over.
- 11:01He's just mixing and maxing and matching
- 11:03and giving everyone opportunities and telling them,
- 11:06listen, if you play you, the number one springboard.
- 11:08You know the standard.
- 11:10And I think that gave a lot of guys confidence to play at this level.
- 11:13But, yeah, watching that Southland game versus
- 11:17he said, there was a 12-centre from Southland
- 11:20that was just killing everyone and not thinking,
- 11:23why haven't we seen him playing all black jersey yet?
- 11:26I understand.
- 11:27And I mean, that's just about the culture
- 11:30that Razer just got at the moment.
- 11:33We doesn't really give taste capture.
- 11:36Why?
- 11:37Gracie decided, listen, I'm going to give guys opportunity.
- 11:39I'm going to let him be comfortable at this level.
- 11:42And let him believe when they play,
- 11:44they're the number one choice.
- 11:46But I think the talent for us in New Zealand this day
- 11:49is just we've given a lot more players opportunity at this stage.
- 11:53To give you an idea how long ago it is
- 11:55since the All Blacks lost it even park.
- 11:58JK, you actually played in that game.
- 12:02I knew you were going to bring that up, mate.
- 12:04I knew that I just knew.
- 12:06I just knew you were going to bring that up.
- 12:09Yeah, I also, my last game for New Zealand was a 19-all draw
- 12:13against South Africa.
- 12:15So that we lost Andrew.
- 12:18And so for me,
- 12:21you know, France were one of those unstoppable moves that day.
- 12:24It was incredible.
- 12:24They were really incredible.
- 12:26It was like chasing shadows at times.
- 12:29And we were, you know, I think those years,
- 12:32too, we hadn't settled on a football team,
- 12:34or Laurie hadn't settled on a football team.
- 12:37And he made a lot of changes in that year.
- 12:39So not dissimilar to what, sort of,
- 12:42Russ is doing more guys with getting opportunities.
- 12:46Yeah, but it's been an amazing record.
- 12:48And that, that actually adds to the week,
- 12:52because 1990 as a player,
- 12:56how can a ground make a difference?
- 12:59You know, like, you play the lot of Eden Park JK.
- 13:02So how does it make a difference?
- 13:03Why are the All Blacks so good there?
- 13:06You travel a lot, Ricardo.
- 13:07What's the light getting home to your own bed?
- 13:11Yeah, I can sleep on the couch.
- 13:13Most of the All Blacks are normally crusaders, I think.
- 13:15Why are they so good there?
- 13:17In Auckland.
- 13:18Victor, you don't need to throw that parochial stuff in, right?
- 13:21You don't need to wind me up this early in the piece.
- 13:24Come on, mate.
- 13:25Give me the answer, JK.
- 13:27Yeah, no, so I did actually answer my own way, Ricardo.
- 13:30You know, if you ever traveled and you've been away for a few weeks,
- 13:33you can't get wait,
- 13:34can't wait to get home to your own bed.
- 13:36And that's what Eden Park's like for the All Blacks.
- 13:38It's our home ground and it's somewhere where we feel comfortable.
- 13:43It's our biggest stadium.
- 13:44We have the crowd behind us.
- 13:46You sit in the seat where you always did.
- 13:51And I think it's a positive motivation, you know?
- 13:56Like when the All Blacks go to Wales,
- 13:57we always stop on the seventh bridge.
- 13:59Don't we, Ricardo?
- 14:00When you remember that, when you were All Black media manager,
- 14:03we always stop halfway across the bridge
- 14:05and say you never lose here, right?
- 14:08There are traditions that are amazing to grow
- 14:11and amazing to have behind you.
- 14:13So it helps your motivation and helps your week
- 14:16and being comfortable in a ground.
- 14:20Because the South Africans will be feeling that.
- 14:22They'll be feeling it'll add to the pressure of their week.
- 14:26Not only will they want to beat the All Blacks,
- 14:27but they'd love to, I mean,
- 14:29Victor would be smiling for a week.
- 14:31I probably won't turn up next week
- 14:34because as a player, something you would have absolutely loved, right?
- 14:37You would have loved to take in that scalp.
- 14:39It's like going to took him and winning.
- 14:41You know, they're just things in the game
- 14:42that you just, as players,
- 14:44just give you that extra, extra motivation and extra week.
- 14:48So Victor, tell me what South Africa's game plan
- 14:51to beat the All Blacks of Eden Park?
- 14:53Well, I think like J.K. I said earlier,
- 14:56I don't think any of the two teams
- 14:59is as comfortable as they would want it
- 15:03to be going to the stage match.
- 15:05I think that Australia losses put us back a little bit.
- 15:09But again, I think this is all going to be about that mindset,
- 15:14about achieving something.
- 15:16No one has achieved in South Africa for a very long time.
- 15:19And you get external motivation.
- 15:21And sometimes you need that.
- 15:22If you've been in a team
- 15:24that's been so successful as one so many things,
- 15:28sometimes you just need that extra motivation.
- 15:30And I mean, this is it.
- 15:32This is definitely it.
- 15:33Now we need to make a plan.
- 15:35Now we're going to do it.
- 15:36I will beat New Zealand.
- 15:37Can we outplay ball in hand?
- 15:40Maybe not.
- 15:40Maybe we can.
- 15:41Or are we going back to the old South Africa DNA,
- 15:45put them under pressure, back our forwards,
- 15:49great kicking game?
- 15:50I think that aerial contests
- 15:52is going to be so important.
- 15:54Are we going to, we will let it go to that.
- 15:56And then from there,
- 15:58we'll open it up and let the guys go
- 16:00and try and play from turn over.
- 16:02So I think we'll probably see
- 16:04much the same as we've seen
- 16:06against Australia in that second test match.
- 16:10For you, JK, what did the all blacks,
- 16:11what's the all blacks game plan,
- 16:13the beats out of Africa?
- 16:15So the game plan that we had
- 16:16in the World Cup final and the game plan
- 16:18that we had for the two tests last year in South Africa,
- 16:21I thought was perfect, right?
- 16:23So obviously you've got to win your set pieces
- 16:27and that's a given.
- 16:28But what we did last year is we had this
- 16:30incredibly fast game plan.
- 16:32And I think it was really working.
- 16:33What happened in the critical moments
- 16:36is we got a bit loose and we gave away
- 16:38some penalties and South Africa came back
- 16:40with the DNA kicked us to the corners.
- 16:42So for me, I reckon a high game plan,
- 16:46I think in the World Cup and the second half,
- 16:48we probably lost a little bit of nerve
- 16:50around throwing it around,
- 16:51especially when the, you know,
- 16:52especially when the bomb squad comes on.
- 16:54So for me, a really fast game plan,
- 16:56get them running early,
- 16:57get them going across the field,
- 16:59our kicking games incredible,
- 17:00but should be a turn in kicking game,
- 17:03where it's on the ground,
- 17:04in behind South Africa,
- 17:06the fullback eyes, that's come forward,
- 17:07we're rushing on to stuff,
- 17:09trying to create some fumbles.
- 17:11And we need to keep that intensity up
- 17:12and then we need to have confidence in that
- 17:14in the second half and win the critical moments, right?
- 17:18You've got to win those critical moments
- 17:20because we know exactly
- 17:22what South Africa would do in the second half.
- 17:24And we can't let them settle down into that game.
- 17:27We've got to keep them off their game
- 17:29all for the 80 minutes.
- 17:31And so it makes for an exciting game, right?
- 17:33And just getting back to what Victor said,
- 17:35I think we will know,
- 17:37I mean, the players will already know,
- 17:38but the team will be named on Thursday.
- 17:41Who the South African number tenors
- 17:44will be very much the sign on what sort of game
- 17:47they're going to play, right?
- 17:49And I'm with you, I think,
- 17:50you know, the problem will be selected.
- 17:53And that means they will play hopefully,
- 17:56I believe, a combination of that South African DNA,
- 17:59but they'll play a little bit more rugby
- 18:02than normal, I believe.
- 18:03Yeah, it also depends who's on 15.
- 18:05I think it's very, very rare to see.
- 18:11You always brings that attack out of 100,
- 18:13for all of this communication.
- 18:16I do like Fassia's 15.
- 18:18He's so good under the high ball.
- 18:21But again, I don't think South Africa
- 18:24will worry too much if New Zealand go that white white.
- 18:26With our, I still haven't seen anyone play around
- 18:29or rush to things.
- 18:31I think what's more dangerous for us is
- 18:34if they go get momentum with some big,
- 18:37and I mean,
- 18:39Audi is a great career.
- 18:40So Titi last year against us were unbelievable.
- 18:43So they start getting momentum with those forwards.
- 18:45And then the clevers, almost like you say,
- 18:47turning kicking go,
- 18:49where it's kicked for the wings,
- 18:50kicking behind us,
- 18:52make us turn.
- 18:53I think that can put us under pressure.
- 18:55I still don't think New Zealand
- 18:57know exactly how to play ball in hand
- 19:01against this rush to things.
- 19:03So this is a game that's going to happen.
- 19:06But the will cut, the women's will cups on at the moment.
- 19:08And there's been some amazing games.
- 19:10And South Africa winning today against Italy,
- 19:13which is a huge turnaround for South African women's rugby.
- 19:17And then obviously the Black Furns,
- 19:19you know, a strong win against Japan,
- 19:21but still some work required.
- 19:22But a tremendous performance by Porsche.
- 19:26Yeah, I'm unbelievable.
- 19:27So she has the top New Zealand Tri-Score
- 19:30with 50 test tries.
- 19:31She's amazing.
- 19:32I love her.
- 19:32I thought a few years ago,
- 19:34you know, she was the best wing
- 19:36across both male and female.
- 19:38I just loved the way she plays.
- 19:40Yeah, what I watched the Japanese game.
- 19:42And I think, you know, New Zealand started really poorly.
- 19:45They gave away about four or five penalties.
- 19:47Japanese scored first.
- 19:48There was a couple of technical things.
- 19:50Like, I think there was seven or eight penalties
- 19:52in the first 20 minutes, right?
- 19:54And they were, I think when they were hitting the racket,
- 19:57it looked like they were like closing it off a bit.
- 20:00But then once they got into their stride
- 20:02and then in the second half, you know,
- 20:03when you look at a Japanese side,
- 20:07they were very good,
- 20:08but they scored a lot of points.
- 20:10And I don't think as you get further down the tournament,
- 20:13they will be able to do the mistakes
- 20:16that they did against Japan.
- 20:17But it was a great win, great, great Porsche.
- 20:19I mean, it makes the, it makes the next game an important one.
- 20:23You know, they've got, they've got through,
- 20:24but it'll, it'll decide which side of the draw you play.
- 20:28So that's going to be really interesting.
- 20:30Is it getting attention?
- 20:31And so they ever get a victory?
- 20:33Yeah, it's getting, it's getting much more than a year or two ago.
- 20:37And I mean, if you saw the interviews
- 20:40after how emotional we both were,
- 20:43it's, I'm just unbelievable.
- 20:45That Libby Young's a foreign spoof,
- 20:47but to a man of the match, he jumps with me as well.
- 20:49I mean, she's been so passionate about women's record for a long time.
- 20:54And yeah, to see them go out there,
- 20:57make the quarter finals, it's unbelievable.
- 20:59I think that was the aim,
- 21:01but hopefully they can say to each other now,
- 21:03let's try and upset someone.
- 21:05Let's see if we can go one step further.
- 21:09Again, Swaster Brain moving the team around a bit in the loss.
- 21:14Few weeks we had to rehearse,
- 21:16we played 15 at 10, and we had Libby at 12.
- 21:19And these two are main plane makers.
- 21:21And this week he moved him back to their regional positions
- 21:24with Libby at 10 and rehearse at 15.
- 21:26We are, I think, wrists do have more space.
- 21:29And we've seen in the seven Skymas watch,
- 21:32it's very dangerous, it's this, it's into space.
- 21:36So, so happy for our girls.
- 21:39And I mean, to see that emotion after that game,
- 21:42now they went around the park, sang together,
- 21:46dance together, it's just unbelievable.
- 21:48I mean, that's a big turn around for women's record.
- 21:52So that's okay.
- 21:53I mean, that's, that's already a big upset.
- 21:54Victor, I watched the,
- 21:56I mean, the Italians would be disappointed.
- 21:58They'll be disappointed with the tournament so far.
- 22:00I watched the Italian French game,
- 22:03and there was some really good,
- 22:05some really good rugby in that as well.
- 22:07France won it.
- 22:09So it'll be disappointed,
- 22:10but that's a massive win from the rankings side of things.
- 22:13And it makes them incredibly dangerous.
- 22:15If they get some confidence,
- 22:17you know, they've got nothing to lose.
- 22:18They've probably had a great tournament.
- 22:19So, you know, go through and who cares?
- 22:23You know, the pressure's off,
- 22:25and you can just really play for it.
- 22:26It's been, I think it's good for them
- 22:28in terms of how many people have showed up at the games,
- 22:30the support of the teams.
- 22:31But there was a beautiful moment where
- 22:33your Englander are looking
- 22:34and pretty an ominous form at home.
- 22:37But, and they ran over the top of Samoa,
- 22:40which was expected.
- 22:42But then Ramsey Tomokino that, you know,
- 22:44that we know J.K.
- 22:46speaking after match press conference,
- 22:47he just broke down on tears.
- 22:49He was just saying that this is just such an incredible
- 22:52opportunity for his, for his woman
- 22:55that are playing for the Samoa team.
- 22:56They may have lost a billion to three, I think.
- 22:58They scored their first points.
- 23:00But just for them to get the chance
- 23:03to get off the bus, to be chaired by the crowd,
- 23:05to play in front of all those people
- 23:07was just an amazing, amazing occasion.
- 23:09And sometimes you forget about those things in the World Cup.
- 23:13It was like Portugal in the last World Cup, you know.
- 23:18Coach Bipax, let's say, like, how good were they?
- 23:22And so, especially when the, when the female
- 23:25gamers in growth, like these World Cups,
- 23:28just expedite its growth.
- 23:30And you have young women in the crowds going,
- 23:32I can do that, you know.
- 23:34It's also great for, you know,
- 23:36you've got netball in your family, Victor.
- 23:39You know, your girls play netball.
- 23:40And so, when they see a pathway,
- 23:43the cross talent that they can take from netball to rugby,
- 23:47I mean, a lot of the woman sports over here
- 23:50have, rugby's a real threat,
- 23:52because you're on the world stage.
- 23:53You've got a world cup, you know.
- 23:54And if you're a sprinter or you're a netball player,
- 23:57then you can cross those skills over.
- 24:01So, it's amazing.
- 24:02And the English, I believe, an incredible squad, right?
- 24:06And they're still hurting from the last World Cup.
- 24:09But the way the English public are actually
- 24:11supporting it is awesome as well.
- 24:12What the most important thing for me is,
- 24:14how do we galvanize that?
- 24:16How do we galvanize that enthusiasm
- 24:19and create a new sector for our female game?
- 24:23You know, new sponsors, new way they want to play,
- 24:26new stadium types and stuff like that.
- 24:29So, I don't think we should look at the female game,
- 24:32like we look at the male game, you know.
- 24:34I think the crowds are amazing.
- 24:36You know, I love seeing dads there with their daughters.
- 24:39So, how do we galvanize that once again after this World Cup?
- 24:44Because I don't know if it was galvanized
- 24:47as it should have been after the New Zealand World Cup.
- 24:50I think we went down a traditional path,
- 24:52whereas I think we need to look at the female game differently.
- 24:55From a competition point of view,
- 24:57from an audience point of view,
- 25:00from an entertainment point of view.
- 25:01But the English are showing that, you know,
- 25:03if you get that product right, they'll turn up.
- 25:08You know, what you're trying to say is humility
- 25:11that comes in on the show,
- 25:12but not mentioning the fact that we won the last World Cup.
- 25:15You know, it's not even,
- 25:17it's not even something we've discussed in the show.
- 25:19It's not even something we're talking about at the moment,
- 25:21the fact that we won that World Cup.
- 25:23And we haven't even mentioned it.
- 25:24That's how humble we are as a nation.
- 25:26So, you know, well done New Zealand.
- 25:28I've got some questions here.
- 25:30So, we've had some...
- 25:31Quickly, absolutely.
- 25:33We've got to... Just maybe on that.
- 25:34I think this World Cup for us,
- 25:36as well, South Africa, is so important.
- 25:38Just because we need women's rugby
- 25:41to grow ground level.
- 25:43And to see how girls go out there,
- 25:46to see the crowds.
- 25:47It's there.
- 25:48All of the sudden, girls were like,
- 25:49jk say,
- 25:50say, listen, we can bat this stage.
- 25:52This is an opportunity for us to do something special.
- 25:54So, I think this World Cup is going to
- 25:58mean a lot too, so that's going to actually women's rugby.
- 26:01That's the World Cup that New Zealand won last time.
- 26:04So, some questions from the audience, from the viewers.
- 26:09So, the first question is from someone on Instagram
- 26:12called Nick Dance's Tango.
- 26:14And he's wondering where the jk has the receipt for his glasses,
- 26:17so he can get his money back.
- 26:18So, just if you've got the receipt for those glasses.
- 26:21No.
- 26:23What was that Tango, guys?
- 26:24No, what was his name?
- 26:25Nick Dance's Tango.
- 26:27Nick, send me your address, mate.
- 26:30I'll get your, no, send me a photo.
- 26:31I'll get your face sent to my people.
- 26:33And we can hook you up with a pair of glasses.
- 26:35And mate, people will be asking you to Tango, brother.
- 26:41Right, here's one from one of our YouTube followers.
- 26:46Talking about New Zealand.
- 26:47When did New Zealand go away from running rugby?
- 26:50What about this crazy box kicking game?
- 26:52It's taken over.
- 26:53Can we get back to running rugby jk?
- 26:57So, the answer is no.
- 26:58The tactical kicking game is fundamental now.
- 27:02Like, you can't, what the defences like Victor said.
- 27:06So, they've got to have a closing the cake defense.
- 27:08They'll stop for you.
- 27:09The line speeds are incredible.
- 27:11You know, when you're playing big men, they slow the rack up.
- 27:14So, the line speeds twice as fast.
- 27:16If you don't have a good kicking game,
- 27:18it's actually, you're not going to achieve much at all.
- 27:22So, it's actually finding an attacking kicking game.
- 27:25So, you can get territory.
- 27:27So, you can create pressure, right?
- 27:28So, you can't just play this attacking game anymore.
- 27:31If we change some of the rules, that might happen,
- 27:33but that's not the case, right?
- 27:35So, you've got to find this balance between
- 27:38making sure you're getting, you know,
- 27:40and often what you'll see with teams is they'll try for three rucks in their own hub.
- 27:44So, that figure is very good at this.
- 27:46They'll try for three rucks.
- 27:47And if they can't get over their balance line,
- 27:48they're not put a tactical kicking.
- 27:50Because you're just bashing into a defensive line
- 27:52and risking in your own half,
- 27:55turning the ball over.
- 27:56So, I think it's what New Zealand needs to find
- 27:59is a fast game plan that has a combination of a great kicking game.
- 28:02And when I talk about an attacking kicking game,
- 28:05you know, it's what I call a kick pass.
- 28:07So, your first five's kicking across to your wing.
- 28:09And what happens is you have to manipulate the defense.
- 28:12So, early in the game, if you do a little chip kick
- 28:14in behind, South Africa,
- 28:16ideally in the next time they want to rush off the line,
- 28:19they might think twice about it, you know.
- 28:21If you kick wide, then the winger who's been told to tuck the photos center
- 28:25will then creep a bit wider,
- 28:27because he doesn't want his opposite wing to catch that ball.
- 28:29Once he goes wide,
- 28:31then you should be attacking that space.
- 28:33So, those tactical kicking games are all about how you attack.
- 28:36So, the answer is, I see kicking as part of attack, right?
- 28:43But you can't just play this expensive game anymore.
- 28:46I didn't come in there, Ricardo.
- 28:48I think as long as Jacob.
- 28:50So, attacking kicking out was so important these days.
- 28:52And I don't know who asked the question,
- 28:55but what they also must look at is the attack that's coming
- 28:59after the botskiks.
- 29:00Whenever they, these balls on the ground, those scraps,
- 29:03we were always told who's winning those scraps.
- 29:06Most of the time, the people that win those scraps
- 29:08with balls on the ground,
- 29:10that's where their attack comes from.
- 29:11And that's where you want, of course, it's broken field.
- 29:14There's no organized offense,
- 29:16and that's when you want your attack to kick in.
- 29:19So, it's all about the right time.
- 29:21When you've got, like, Jacob is saying,
- 29:22when you've got one or two slow rock balls,
- 29:25these days the fences are just too good to attack from there.
- 29:27So, it's almost said peace first phase,
- 29:30or then after two, three,
- 29:31you can rather kick it,
- 29:33try getting into that until you get broken field off of kick
- 29:36and that's when you want to attack as well.
- 29:38Okay, we've got a well-balanced audience.
- 29:40Champagne Rugby's asking,
- 29:41what is the favourite thing to throw on the briy, Dr?
- 29:45Favourite thing to throw on the briy?
- 29:48So, my favourite thing is probably a Skullpikey.
- 29:52I don't know if you guys know it's a Skullpikey.
- 29:55The hell is a Skullpikey?
- 29:57It's liver,
- 29:59and with fat around it.
- 30:02And it's just beautiful.
- 30:04So, you've mostly as a starter,
- 30:06so you don't have little Skullpikey,
- 30:08with a bit of pup,
- 30:10maize,
- 30:11and then after you can have the chops and the steak
- 30:13and everything coming,
- 30:15but that Skullpikey is,
- 30:17I'll make you some when you come to South Africa, boys.
- 30:20I love liver.
- 30:22Yeah, liver with an edge seat.
- 30:24I think it's an edge sheet that they call it.
- 30:26So, yeah, it's beautiful.
- 30:28Right now for UJK,
- 30:30a question from Cameron 2179 from YouTube.
- 30:33How many Kiwibacks would make a
- 30:35rugby championship all-stars team?
- 30:38How do they all backline?
- 30:40Who would you put in that all-stars?
- 30:44I'd put Bowden.
- 30:47I'd put...
- 30:52I'll say a bit loud, I'd put Bowden.
- 30:55You sure?
- 30:57Well, you can't even decide who your first five is,
- 30:59mate, at least we can.
- 31:01You know?
- 31:01Like, we've got Bowden.
- 31:06I will Jordan.
- 31:08I'd definitely put in.
- 31:09You haven't said, well, we see you all Jordan
- 31:11in the ring this weekend.
- 31:13I think that's a great question, Victor.
- 31:14It's a great, great question.
- 31:19I think that's a possibility.
- 31:20I think that's a real possibility, you know?
- 31:25And I think, if you think about the high balls,
- 31:28sorry to divert from your question for the viewer, Ricardo,
- 31:32but, you know, we have to have possibly three fullbacks
- 31:37playing because it's going to be a bombardment, right?
- 31:39So, we're on the wing.
- 31:42Yeah, that's a real possibility, Eric.
- 31:44Well, Victor, what South Africans would be in the rugby championship best backline?
- 31:50Backline.
- 31:52You got ideas behind you.
- 31:54Andre Paulard.
- 31:57James Linde.
- 31:59I'm just going to pick the whole backline.
- 32:01I just know, Victor, like, that's, that's everyone.
- 32:05I'll keep Walter put in there and go into his team.
- 32:10Brilliant.
- 32:11All right, now here's another question along the same lines.
- 32:13If this is why I love South Africans, this is why I love South Africans,
- 32:16like, I just love that you've mentioned four times the word,
- 32:19that you're four times World Cup champions.
- 32:21And when you ask a South African for the best side,
- 32:23they're just going to name their tank, right?
- 32:26Because if you didn't, also your mates don't,
- 32:27can you invite you to the briar and eat that liver stuff?
- 32:30Yeah, I won't be invited.
- 32:33Victor, the last question goes to you from Kenny Dell.
- 32:36On the scale of one to absolutely not,
- 32:40how often do you actually understand what JK is talking about?
- 32:45Yeah, I've been in the last six weeks.
- 32:49It was maybe once or twice weeks, but some things.
- 32:53At some states, after,
- 32:55Kirby gave him a little bit of info into the game.
- 32:59So there's some things sometimes.
- 33:03Yeah, obviously, Kirby's still waiting in the reception
- 33:06and I haven't let him in.
- 33:09After last week, after last week,
- 33:12he's talking like, come on mate.
- 33:15How do you help?
- 33:17You know, I mean, obviously we're all building up to the game.
- 33:20I think we should have a call after the game
- 33:23between the two of you just to see.
- 33:25Because one of you is going to be really happy
- 33:26and one of them is going to be really sad.
- 33:28And I just, I'm, yeah, so we'll see that.
- 33:31We'll post it up on our channel.
- 33:34You know, it's a pressure on this game.
- 33:36I don't like it.
- 33:39You don't like it.
- 33:39Just for that, it's a pressure on the game.
- 33:42It's like putting a million round or something on the game.
- 33:45It's cool afterwards it's going to be so bad.
- 33:48So a million round, that's like 20 bucks, eh?
- 33:50Like 20, he used, or yeah, New Zealand's other.
- 33:55So from the moment this game came out on the schedule,
- 33:57he runs, been looking forward to it.
- 33:58And that's finally arrived.
- 34:01So we're looking forward to it.
- 34:02It's going to be a hell of a game.
- 34:04And it's going to be a hell of a phone call afterwards
- 34:06and a hell of a show next week.
- 34:08So looking forward to it.
- 34:09Thanks for your time.
- 34:10This is Rivals.
- 34:11Thanks for coming.
- 34:13Well, the people out there enjoy it.
- 34:14This is a great week.
