- 0:12Hello friends. It is shown here and welcome to
- 0:17another week that you and I get to walk through this.
- 0:22Wonderful, well, not so wonderful sometimes world of
- 0:27Exodus and it is not a good time to Be an Egyptian things are
- 0:31going a little bit gross. And you might think sure this
- 0:34music is way too perky for another few days in the midst of
- 0:39terrible plagues. Well, I chose this music to keep
- 0:44things perky because it is not about the plagues, Moses wrote
- 0:50the story down so that the people of Israel and you and me
- 0:55today would remember God's presence with So let us keep in
- 1:02mind that God is present. And here's something to blow
- 1:05your mind when they talk about the Lord, talking to Moses and
- 1:08Aaron and the Lord causing these things to happen.
- 1:11That is the Lord who reveals himself to us in Jesus.
- 1:15Our lord, the one and the same God.
- 1:17And that Spirit, who inspires us with these words and moves us to
- 1:22act one. And the same Lord.
- 1:26I'm not quite sure what I'm going to have to process.
- 1:29With that today. But there it is.
- 1:32That's the way it is. So perky.
- 1:34Music lots, more plagues to come the Triune God speaking to us
- 1:40what an adventure we have before us.
- 1:43So strap yourself in as we read together, Exodus chapter 9
- 1:59Go back to Pharaoh. The Lord commanded Moses.
- 2:03Tell him, this is what the Lord, the god of the Hebrews says, let
- 2:08my people go. So they can worship me.
- 2:13If you continue to hold them and refuse to let them go.
- 2:16The hand of the Lord will strike all your livestock, your horses
- 2:21donkeys. Camels cattle, sheep, and goats
- 2:25for the deadly plague. But the Lord will again make a
- 2:30distinction between the livestock of the Israelites and
- 2:33that of the Egyptians not a single.
- 2:36One of Israel's animals will die, the Lord has already set
- 2:40the time for the plague to begin.
- 2:43He has declared that. He will strike the land
- 2:46tomorrow. And the Lord did just, as he had
- 2:50said the next morning all the livestock of the Egyptians died,
- 2:56but the Israelites didn't lose a single animal.
- 2:59Pharaoh sent his officials to investigate and they discovered
- 3:03that the Israelites had not lost a single animal.
- 3:05But even so Pharaoh's, heart remains stubborn and he still
- 3:10refused to let the people go. Then the Lord said to Moses and
- 3:15Aaron take handfuls of soot from a Brick Kiln and have Moses toss
- 3:21it into the air while Pharaoh watches, the ashes will spread
- 3:26like fine dust over the whole land of Egypt causing festering,
- 3:31boils to break out on people and animals throughout the land.
- 3:36So that took suit from a Brick Kiln and went and stood before
- 3:40Pharaoh as Pharaoh, watched Moses through the suit into the
- 3:44air and boils broke out on people and animals alike.
- 3:49Even The Magicians were unable to stand before Moses because
- 3:52the boils had broken out on them and all the Egyptians.
- 3:56But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart and just as the Lord had
- 3:59predicted to Moses Pharaoh refused to listen.
- 4:04Then the Lord said to Moses, get up early in the morning and
- 4:08stand before Pharaoh tell him. This is what the Lord, the god
- 4:14of the Hebrews says, let my people go so they can worship
- 4:19me. If you don't, I will send more
- 4:22plagues on you and your officials and your people, then
- 4:26you will know that. There is no one like me in all
- 4:30the Earth. By now I could have lifted my
- 4:33hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you
- 4:37off the face of the Earth. But I've spared you for a
- 4:40purpose to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the
- 4:46Earth. But you still lorded over my
- 4:49people and refused to let them go.
- 4:52So tomorrow, at this time, I will send a hailstorm more
- 4:57devastating than any in all the history of Egypt.
- 5:01Quick order, your livestock and servants to come in from the
- 5:05fields to find shelter. Any personal animal left outside
- 5:10will die when the hail Falls. Some of pharaohs officials were
- 5:15afraid because of what the Lord had said, they quickly brought
- 5:18their servants and livestock in from the fields.
- 5:20But those are paid no attention to the word of the Lord left.
- 5:23There's out in the open. Then the Lord said to Moses,
- 5:28lift your hand toward the sky. Sohail may fall on the people,
- 5:33the livestock, and all the plants throughout the land of
- 5:37Egypt. So Moses, lifted his staff
- 5:40toward the sky and the Lord sent Thunder.
- 5:43And hail and lightning flash toward the Earth.
- 5:47The Lord sent a tremendous hail storm against all the land of
- 5:51Egypt. Never in all the history of
- 5:54Egypt, had there been a storm like that with such devastating,
- 5:59hail and continuous lightning. It left all of Egypt and ruins.
- 6:04The Hales, struck down. Everything in the open field,
- 6:07people animals and plants are like, even the trees were
- 6:11destroyed the only I swear that Hale was the region of Goshen,
- 6:16where the people of Israel lived.
- 6:19Then fairer quickly summoned, Moses.
- 6:22And Aaron this time, I have sinned, he confessed the Lord is
- 6:27the righteous one and my people and I are wrong.
- 6:31Please beg the Lord to end this terrifying, Thunder, and hail.
- 6:35We've had enough. I will let you go.
- 6:38You don't need to stay any longer.
- 6:41All right, Moses replied. As soon as I leave the city, I
- 6:45will lift my hands and pray to the Lord.
- 6:48Then the Thunder. ER, and hail will stop, and you
- 6:51will know that the Earth Belongs to the Lord, but I know that you
- 6:56and your official still do not fear the lord God.
- 7:00All the flax. And barley were ruined by the
- 7:03hail because the barley had formed heads.
- 7:05And the flax was budding, but the wheat and Emma wheat were
- 7:09spared because they had not yet sprouted from the ground.
- 7:13So, Moses left Pharaoh's court and went out of the city when he
- 7:18lifted his hands. To the Lord.
- 7:20The Thunder and hail stopped, and the downpour ceased, but
- 7:26when Pharaoh saw the rain, hail and thunder had stopped He and
- 7:31his official sinned again and Pharaoh again became stubborn
- 7:36because his heart was hard. Pharaoh refused to let the
- 7:39people leave just as the Lord had predicted through Moses.
- 7:53Lord, we hear this story and we know that, the whole of the
- 7:58earth belongs to you, we belong to you and dreams our plans, our
- 8:04future, our resources, our time, it all belongs to you.
- 8:11Our greatest fears. The things that we dread and we
- 8:16just hope, never come to pass. They belong to you, too.
- 8:22Lord, we offer up all of those worries and concerns for our
- 8:26future. Those regrets from our past,
- 8:31everything that bubbles up in our hearts, we just offer it to
- 8:35you now. You are sovereign over all and
- 8:40we submit to you. And we pray that our lives would
- 8:44be spent in your service ushering in your kingdom because
- 8:50we love you and we are so grateful that you choose to love
- 8:55us. First, pray, all of this.
- 8:59In Jesus name. Amen.
