- 0:00Speaker 1: Bart, can we stop for ice cream?
- 0:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Bart, can we weigh the car at that weigh station? Yeah. Bart,
- 0:10Speaker 1: can we pick up that hitchhiker?
- 0:11Speaker 3: I don't see why not.
- 0:14Speaker 4: Bart, can we stop for ice cream?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Well, I didn't think I was rehabilitated, but I guess
- 0:21Speaker 4: they needed the extra bed.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Four-finger discount, dude.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Welcome to Four Finger Discount. This week we are here
- 0:42Speaker 4: to review Bart on the Road.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I am Dando. I am Mitch.
- 0:45Speaker 4: How you doing, man?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Very good, mate.
- 0:46Speaker 5: How are you?
- 0:47Speaker 4: I am always good. You going out for dinner tonight
- 0:48Speaker 4: for some Thai? Looking forward to that?
- 0:50Speaker 5: I am.
- 0:51Speaker 1: That's a really uninteresting way to start the podcast. Is
- 0:54Speaker 1: that what we've come to after nearly three years?
- 0:55Speaker 4: You know what I did on the weekend? I went
- 0:57Speaker 4: to birthing classes.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Now, see, that's a more interesting topic. How did you go?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Did you feel your vulva opening like a flower?
- 1:03Speaker 4: It was not fun. So I had to wear these suits.
- 1:07Speaker 4: So they make you feel like you're pregnant. So they
- 1:09Speaker 4: put a... What?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Okay. So I'm going to stop on that straight away.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Why do you need to feel like you're pregnant? Out
- 1:16Speaker 1: of curiosity.
- 1:17Speaker 4: So you know what your wife's going through.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Why do you need to know what your wife's going through?
- 1:21Speaker 4: You know it hurts. I know it hurts.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Do you really need more than that?
- 1:23Speaker 4: It's more than, not so much the pain, it's how
- 1:25Speaker 4: uncomfortable it is. It's just things like getting out of
- 1:28Speaker 4: a chair. I understood it was uncomfortable, but I now
- 1:31Speaker 4: really understand what she's going through and I can appreciate
- 1:34Speaker 4: just how annoying, as much as you love having a
- 1:37Speaker 4: child there, how annoying it must be to have to
- 1:39Speaker 4: carry it around for nine months.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Okay. So it's empathy class, basically.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Basically, yeah. But no, it was more learning about what
- 1:44Speaker 4: to do once the child's home, what you should and
- 1:47Speaker 4: shouldn't do. Learning about postnatal depression, things like that. That's important.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I had to watch a lot of birthing videos. That's not...
- 1:53Speaker 4: That's an experience.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 4: I hadn't watched one of them since the year eight
- 1:56Speaker 4: health class.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah. A couple of years ago, I caught an episode
- 2:00Speaker 1: of One Born Every Minute and it never stops being terrifying.
- 2:04Speaker 4: What is that? By the seventh video, I was fine.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I was desensitized to it.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Have you seen one of those ones where they have
- 2:09Speaker 1: to get the suction cups in? Yes. Have you seen
- 2:11Speaker 1: one where the suction cup slips off the baby's head
- 2:13Speaker 1: and comes flying out? No. Yeah. See? Terrifying. That was...
- 2:18Speaker 1: That was the episode that I happen to catch of
- 2:20Speaker 1: One Born every minute.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Because Nicola's considering a water birth, so we had to
- 2:24Speaker 4: watch some water birth videos, and there was one where
- 2:26Speaker 4: the baby's head was out, but the baby didn't realize
- 2:29Speaker 4: it had been born yet, so the head was just
- 2:30Speaker 4: chilling out. And the dad's just looking at the baby,
- 2:33Speaker 4: and it's reacting like it's still in the womb. That
- 2:37Speaker 4: was something to behold. So the baby doesn't actually know
- 2:41Speaker 4: it's out of the womb until you take it out
- 2:42Speaker 4: of the water.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:44Speaker 4: So a baby can come out and just chill in
- 2:45Speaker 4: the water for a couple of minutes if you let it.
- 2:46Speaker 1: For how long? Could we create an entire race of
- 2:50Speaker 1: water babies?
- 2:51Speaker 4: We can try.
- 2:51Speaker 1: A super race. How long could you keep it underwater for?
- 2:54Speaker 4: That's the opening scene of Aquaman.
- 2:56Speaker 1: If it's attached to that, yeah, as long as it's
- 2:57Speaker 1: attached to the umbilical cord, you could have a fully
- 3:00Speaker 1: grown man that just finally comes out of the water
- 3:02Speaker 1: for the first time.
- 3:04Speaker 4: So you just have all these women connected to babies underwater,
- 3:06Speaker 4: men underwater. Just dragging their mothers along with them. Theoretically,
- 3:10Speaker 4: I feel like that could happen. I don't think it could.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And this is why you don't have a child.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I feel like there's so many human experiments that have
- 3:18Speaker 1: not been run about births. And that's one of them
- 3:20Speaker 1: that I would like to see. The other one that
- 3:21Speaker 1: I would like to see is you take 20 volunteers
- 3:26Speaker 1: to live in the water. So they've all got to
- 3:28Speaker 1: be pregnant women and then they give birth in the
- 3:30Speaker 1: water and spend 90% of their day in the water.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Temperature controlled water, so it's not uncomfortable. They're not going
- 3:36Speaker 1: to get sick or anything like that. But then... eventually
- 3:40Speaker 1: their kids grow up, they meet other water kids, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: then they have a kid. And then same deal. They've
- 3:44Speaker 1: got to spend all that life. And this would be
- 3:45Speaker 1: like a 400-year experiment. But in 400 years' time, you
- 3:50Speaker 1: take these water people and see what sort of physical
- 3:52Speaker 1: attributes they have developed that land people have not. I
- 3:56Speaker 1: can't see that ever happening. You could enforce.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Evolution and prove evolution in that With that experiment. What
- 4:03Speaker 4: I'm envisioning is Ash is giving a water birth and
- 4:05Speaker 4: you'll stand in the back. Doctor's about to take it out.
- 4:07Speaker 4: You go, leave it there. Leave him down. Leave him there.
- 4:10Speaker 1: He'll be fine. He knows what he's doing. I say
- 4:13Speaker 1: prove evolution. Of course, it has been. But you could
- 4:17Speaker 1: demonstrate and be like the first time, the first instance
- 4:20Speaker 1: of man-made evolution.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I fear for Ash for when she gives birth. Do
- 4:24Speaker 4: you think you'll ever have a child?
- 4:25Speaker 1: I've already unsold the rights. No.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Let's get into Barton the Road anyway. What did you
- 4:29Speaker 4: think of the episode?
- 4:30Speaker 1: I really, really loved this episode, actually.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I forgot how great it was, yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 1: For reasons that I had forgotten all about. Because, frankly,
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's not the funniest episode going around.
- 4:42Speaker 4: A lot of one-liners.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and a lot of them, for me, did not
- 4:45Speaker 1: hit the mark. Like, there weren't many moments of the
- 4:48Speaker 1: one-liners that made me laugh out loud. But the character-driven
- 4:50Speaker 1: comedy is really, really good to compensate. And the overall...
- 4:54Speaker 1: character dynamics that you get throughout of this. And really
- 4:57Speaker 1: Homer and Lisa are the heart of the episode. Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It's a really well told overall story. I was reading
- 5:04Speaker 1: about how the writers back in the day were really
- 5:06Speaker 1: excited to do a road movie in general. Road episode, yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think it was, sorry, road episode. I think it was,
- 5:13Speaker 1: might've been Elle, but someone was saying that not only
- 5:17Speaker 1: Were they excited for this? But just in general, that
- 5:19Speaker 1: road stories, road trip stories are something that writers always
- 5:22Speaker 1: gravitate towards. I think Bill may have said that. Yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It was Bill, actually, now that you've said that. Thank you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You get a natural sense of forward momentum within the
- 5:33Speaker 1: story just by the fact that they're in a car.
- 5:35Speaker 1: They're going from one place to another place. A lot
- 5:37Speaker 1: of the work is already done for you as a writer. Yeah. Somehow,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I don't know, I've always been a sucker for road
- 5:43Speaker 1: movies for that very reason. Even though I know that
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's what the reason is, it's not necessarily that they've
- 5:49Speaker 1: put more work into it. It just seems like the
- 5:52Speaker 1: stakes have been raised because they've got to get from
- 5:54Speaker 1: A to B and then go on. The best road
- 5:57Speaker 1: movies tend to be combined with some sort of personal
- 6:00Speaker 1: journey that mimics the section of the road trip that
- 6:05Speaker 1: they happen to be on. Unless it's a rat race.
- 6:07Speaker 1: It's just to get money. Rat Race is purely to
- 6:09Speaker 1: get money, yeah. But that's not one of the best
- 6:11Speaker 1: road movies.
- 6:12Speaker 4: It is funny, though. But this has a very, like,
- 6:14Speaker 4: a lemon of Troy feel to it.
- 6:16Speaker 1: In what way?
- 6:17Speaker 4: See, for example, Nelson, right, doesn't normally hang out with Bart,
- 6:20Speaker 4: so you get that dynamic of Martin and Nelson again,
- 6:22Speaker 4: but they're in, they're away from Springfield. It's not very
- 6:24Speaker 4: often you see the kids away from Springfield when they're
- 6:27Speaker 4: not with their family.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, true. And Homer and Lisa, who don't spend a
- 6:30Speaker 1: lot of time together, but you also, very rarely do
- 6:33Speaker 1: you see Marge alone.
- 6:34Speaker 4: That's it, yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Apart from... That's the sad part of this episode.
- 6:37Speaker 4: It sort of highlights the loneliness that adulthood can bring,
- 6:40Speaker 4: especially if you're a parent and your spouse has to
- 6:43Speaker 4: work night shift.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You have nobody.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah. And, yeah, both kids are away, your other kid's
- 6:48Speaker 1: a baby, and, you know, she's off in the water,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and you've got nothing left to do.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Like, there have been times... Where that gets referenced, obviously,
- 6:58Speaker 1: You Only Move Twice is an example and Rancho Relaxo.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It hasn't happened yet, though. You Only Move Twice. I know.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I just mean in general in the history. But it's
- 7:06Speaker 1: very rare that you see Marge just on her own.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And it does provide a bittersweet, not bittersweet, even just
- 7:14Speaker 1: a more downcast....
- 7:17Speaker 4: This is her life.
- 7:18Speaker 1: What's the word? It's kind of the other side of
- 7:20Speaker 1: the coin of all of the antics and frivolity that's
- 7:22Speaker 1: going on in the rest of the episode. And then
- 7:24Speaker 1: you've just got Marge. on her own, desperate for some
- 7:27Speaker 1: attention and not getting any of it. And it's sad,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but they mine it very well for funny. It never
- 7:32Speaker 1: crosses over into like feeling pity. Yeah. Because they keep
- 7:37Speaker 1: it pretty funny and light the whole way through. Even
- 7:39Speaker 1: the phone calls. Oh, you want to speak to Lisa? Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:43Speaker 1: That was a good callback. And I think one of
- 7:46Speaker 1: my favorite examples of it is the very end during
- 7:49Speaker 1: the end credits when She's getting all the phone calls
- 7:52Speaker 1: and all of this craziness that she has no idea about.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And Homer just gradually hiding more and more under the doona.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And he's little... How relatable is he in that moment? Yeah.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Like it's, I know something you don't know.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Yes.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I like that Homer goes from rage and he's
- 8:07Speaker 1: now finally seeing the funny side of it all. It's
- 8:09Speaker 1: a really cool way to have ended the episode.
- 8:11Speaker 4: That's one of my favourite moments. The other favourite moment
- 8:13Speaker 4: for me was Marge poking Maggie.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Just a tap. Nothing.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Boom. Bang.
- 8:20Speaker 4: And the cry for Maggie.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Right in the ribs. Yeah. I also really like the...
- 8:24Speaker 1: Just the kids are very relatable in this episode. I
- 8:28Speaker 1: feel like they're written... They're kids. Really, really well as kids.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Possibly not 10-year-old kids, but it took me back to being...
- 8:36Speaker 1: I think Lisa is, but not so much because he's
- 8:38Speaker 1: out driving a car and everything. Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 4: It took me back to being 15, 16. It reminds
- 8:44Speaker 4: me of your first sense of freedom.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Times where I might have been 16. In Queensland,
- 8:49Speaker 1: people got their license a bit younger. They may still do.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So as a 16-year-old, if I had a 17-year-old friend,
- 8:54Speaker 1: we'd go on a road trip somewhere. And yeah, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: was still... You're very much aware of the fact that
- 9:00Speaker 1: we're not adults and it still felt... Not naughty. I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 1: it was legal, but it felt like... That adventure of,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I can do whatever I want.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Like, if we want to go into this store right here,
- 9:13Speaker 1: we can. If we don't want to, we don't have to.
- 9:14Speaker 1: If I want to just suddenly go, let's go to Dreamworld,
- 9:18Speaker 1: we can go to Dreamworld. Like, we can do absolutely
- 9:20Speaker 1: anything or nothing. And it's a really cool sense of
- 9:23Speaker 1: freedom that you get. And I like the way that
- 9:26Speaker 1: these kids deal with that in their different ways. Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 1: And I like that Bart just embraces everything.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:34Speaker 4: It's very important, though. that they had the kids at
- 9:37Speaker 4: the end of the day but he needed his parents
- 9:39Speaker 4: to get back to where he was because it's quite
- 9:42Speaker 4: often that you think you can look after yourself when
- 9:45Speaker 4: you're a teenager but at the end of the day
- 9:46Speaker 4: you realize i still need my parents yeah i'm not
- 9:48Speaker 4: quite responsible enough yet.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah there's well really everywhere along the way that's reinforced
- 9:54Speaker 1: even yeah you know they they try to go to
- 9:55Speaker 1: see an r-rated movie and they pick very much the
- 9:58Speaker 1: wrong one We'll deal with that. I don't know if
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know much about the movie Naked Lunch. I don't, no.
- 10:02Speaker 1: We'll deal with that when we get to that scene. Okay.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And when they wander into the bar, they're like, let's
- 10:07Speaker 1: grab a drink, how exciting this is going to be.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And then one of the really most hard-hitting times that
- 10:12Speaker 1: the show confronts problem alcohol addiction, when they just look
- 10:17Speaker 1: into the future and all go, ooh, no, and in silence,
- 10:20Speaker 1: just back away from the beers. There's countless times. Every time, basically,
- 10:24Speaker 1: they try to do something, it goes wrong for them.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And apart from picking up the hitchhiker, that happened to
- 10:29Speaker 1: work out for them, luckily.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Do you know he's based on the Hitchhiker and Texas
- 10:33Speaker 4: Chainsaw Massacre?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I read that. I haven't seen that movie in full. Ever? No. Okay.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I kind of felt like I'd seen the best bits
- 10:42Speaker 1: just from Eclipse.
- 10:43Speaker 4: That bit where he's trying to hit her on the
- 10:44Speaker 4: head with a hammer?
- 10:46Speaker 1: No, I hadn't seen that, actually.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Okay.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But I was like, you know, dude, chainsaw, swings it
- 10:50Speaker 1: over his head, based on Ed Gein. I can, like,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I've got... Ed Gein? Depends on how you want to, well, G-E-I-N.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Tomato, tomato?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Either way.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Tamaco. We were having this conversation at work the other day, sorry,
- 11:03Speaker 1: this is just way off topic, but If there's one
- 11:06Speaker 1: thing that I don't like about the Australian accent, it's
- 11:09Speaker 1: that no one in Australia says either tomatoes or potatoes.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Yet we use it as a phrase.
- 11:15Speaker 1: No, we don't even do that. Like, as in... No,
- 11:17Speaker 1: not potato, potato. But I mean, would you like some potatoes?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Everyone in Australia would say potato. Would you like some potatoes? Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 1: It never gets shortened to potatoes or tomatoes. And I
- 11:27Speaker 1: really wish it did, because, you know, what are you having?
- 11:30Speaker 4: Potatoes.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It's something about that. Something about middle America that is
- 11:35Speaker 1: so quaint. We would say taters. We would shorten it
- 11:38Speaker 1: even more. No, we wouldn't even go to taters.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we'd love to shorten things.
- 11:42Speaker 1: No one's ever called a potato a tater.
- 11:44Speaker 4: We can start the trend.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I don't think we can. I don't think we have
- 11:47Speaker 1: that power. We can try. Well, we could try, but
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's not going to work.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Last week you tried to say that fucking Chris Pratt
- 11:51Speaker 4: was a sex fiend.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And that didn't take off, did it? I have no power.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I didn't even get a fucking cease and desist. I
- 11:58Speaker 1: was waiting for one. That's how little I am.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I was sitting on the edit button.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I was like, do I delete? Do I delete? You
- 12:04Speaker 1: could have beeped to save me.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Well, I didn't.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Feel free to beep out next time I say something
- 12:09Speaker 1: like that. Like the next time I talk about *
- 12:12Speaker 1: * * * and how she was busy taking a
- 12:13Speaker 1: donkey * * * * right up the * *
- 12:16Speaker 1: * * while her sister * * * * was
- 12:19Speaker 1: filming and * * * * it into a *
- 12:22Speaker 1: * * *. Next time I say anything like that,
- 12:24Speaker 1: please beep it out. Oh my.
- 12:26Speaker 4: We'll get back to the episode anyway. So the Simpsons,
- 12:29Speaker 4: they're stuck in a vacuum. They never get older. What
- 12:31Speaker 4: I like about this is you kind of see, besides
- 12:33Speaker 4: the episodes where they time jump into the future, it's
- 12:36Speaker 4: set in real time, present time in the Simpsons universe.
- 12:39Speaker 4: But how Bart would behave when he was a teenager,
- 12:41Speaker 4: this is something that teenagers do.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
- 12:43Speaker 4: We would never ever get this opportunity again.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah. It's something that I think, again, is relatable in
- 12:49Speaker 1: that you... I don't know how many, but I know...
- 12:53Speaker 1: There would be enough people that everyone would probably know
- 12:56Speaker 1: someone that has taken a car for a drive before
- 12:57Speaker 1: they had their license.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I put my hand up.
- 13:00Speaker 4: I did it once.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Not far. I went about six kilometers across town, mounted
- 13:05Speaker 1: a curb, popped a tire in front of a police station. You? Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I went, oh, dear.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I need to get this bad boy back into the garage.
- 13:11Speaker 1: My wife is going to kill me. Shout out to my, oh, God,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I can't remember his name. Had a very helpful neighbor
- 13:19Speaker 1: help me change the tire. Whose tire was it? It
- 13:22Speaker 1: was my car.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Oh, it was your car.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't steal the car or anything. I just
- 13:24Speaker 1: didn't have a licence. I was on my learners, so
- 13:27Speaker 1: that's why I had the car and I ducked around
- 13:29Speaker 1: to pick someone else up who couldn't, you know. But
- 13:31Speaker 1: of all the places... You're such a criminal. Of all
- 13:33Speaker 1: the places to mount the curb, in front of the
- 13:36Speaker 1: police station was not the best one.
- 13:37Speaker 4: I think you've explained each week for the last, say,
- 13:40Speaker 4: two months, of you breaking the law at least once
- 13:42Speaker 4: per episode.
- 13:42Speaker 1: A lot of statute of limitations stuff is starting to
- 13:44Speaker 1: fall by the wayside, so I can start to uncover
- 13:47Speaker 1: some truths.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Do you think it was sort of disappointing that Bart
- 13:50Speaker 4: didn't learn his lesson? in this episode? Because Lisa just
- 13:53Speaker 4: saved the day for him, Lisa and Homer, and by
- 13:54Speaker 4: the end of it, he felt like he'd gotten away
- 13:56Speaker 4: with it without having to suffer the consequences?
- 13:59Speaker 1: No, I think he did learn his lesson, to be fair.
- 14:02Speaker 1: As much as he didn't cop punishment for it, there
- 14:04Speaker 1: was an unspoken acknowledgement of the fact that he had
- 14:10Speaker 1: only got there through the help of Lisa. And even
- 14:14Speaker 1: if he didn't know it, I reckon there might have
- 14:17Speaker 1: been some small degree of knowing Homer was involved. Because
- 14:21Speaker 1: when that package rocked up at the power plant, surely
- 14:24Speaker 1: you're going to put two and two together. At least
- 14:26Speaker 1: I would, even if there's not, I would prefer to
- 14:29Speaker 1: think of it that way. It would be kind of
- 14:30Speaker 1: cool that he's there, he's telling that story just for Marge.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Even though Homer is furious in that moment, the look
- 14:37Speaker 1: on his face at the dinner table is hilarious. But yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I think there's enough there that Bart knows, I fucked
- 14:44Speaker 1: that up and thank God for Lisa or I'd be
- 14:47Speaker 1: still stuck in Tennessee.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yep, yep, yep. Now, can you explain to me, why
- 14:52Speaker 4: was Nelson hanging out with Milhouse and Bart? Because obviously
- 14:55Speaker 4: it helps the story. Any other reason?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Let's assume they both happened to be at the Quickie
- 14:59Speaker 1: Mart at the same time. So the first time they
- 15:01Speaker 1: all come together, Bart's got his fake ID. So it's
- 15:04Speaker 1: not beyond reason that on Spring Bake.
- 15:06Speaker 4: He overhears Milhouse talking about it?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Well, they've just both gone to buy a squishy or something,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and Bart's gone, hey, come check this out. That could
- 15:14Speaker 1: very easily have been what led to that scene.
- 15:16Speaker 4: That could. Now, explain my favourite moment. What was your
- 15:18Speaker 4: favourite moment from this episode?
- 15:22Speaker 1: It's one of those ones where I'm torn between two.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Don't say the back to Winnipeg. No, no, no. I
- 15:27Speaker 1: really liked... The one that made me laugh out loud
- 15:30Speaker 1: the most, because I was really not expecting it, was
- 15:32Speaker 1: the hitchhiker's line.
- 15:34Speaker 4: At the bed?
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that... Well, I don't think I was fully rehabilitated,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but I guess they just needed the bed.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Do you know, I never could understand what he was saying.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I had to actually, I still couldn't understand it. I
- 15:44Speaker 4: had to actually frinky-ack it. Oh, okay. Great line.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's really funny. And great line reading. It's very well delivered.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And if not that, it's Homer putting on the helmet
- 15:52Speaker 1: to scream in anger.
- 15:54Speaker 4: And I reckon, if you listen to it, the last
- 15:56Speaker 4: two things he says is, fucking ass.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah, right. Okay. Possible.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Fucking ass. It sounds like fucking ass. I'm telling you,
- 16:04Speaker 4: that's got to be it. And obviously, Dan Castaneda would
- 16:08Speaker 4: have sworn his head off and he'd just muffled it.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 4: That'd be a good game.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Try and guess how many swears Castellanada said in that
- 16:13Speaker 1: one scene. Yeah, I'd have to go back through and listen. Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: get some of Grissom's headphones and play it backwards. Because
- 16:22Speaker 1: they exist. Gus Grissom has his own headphones where you
- 16:24Speaker 1: can forensically listen to audio. Yes.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Now, we posted in the Four Finger Discount exclusive Patreon group.
- 16:30Speaker 1: We did.
- 16:31Speaker 4: We asked for new names.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And we had a lot come through.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Too many.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Do you have one?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Yeah, National Lampoon's Illegitimate Vacation.
- 16:39Speaker 4: I like it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I've got Wiggin' Out of Springfield. See, I knew wigs
- 16:42Speaker 1: were going to be in there. I'm not saying that
- 16:44Speaker 1: it's a cheap and obvious choice, but... It's not cheap
- 16:48Speaker 1: and obvious. Oh, I tried to avoid it. Joseph O'Hara,
- 16:51Speaker 1: Knoxville Nights, The Ballad of Barty Bobby is not too
- 16:54Speaker 1: bad of a suggestion. Sally Haywood has got a few
- 16:58Speaker 1: likes with Journey to the Centre of the Sun's Fear.
- 17:01Speaker 1: That's pretty great. Joel Simpson simply quoted an episode. Bart
- 17:06Speaker 1: ran out of car with a funny driver's license and
- 17:07Speaker 1: drove Milhouse Martin and Nelson a week out to a
- 17:12Speaker 1: week out in Knoxville. And this is really difficult to
- 17:14Speaker 1: read because it goes over several lines and it's all
- 17:16Speaker 1: one word. And got their car crushed and they're out
- 17:18Speaker 1: of money and they can't get home and Bart's working
- 17:19Speaker 1: as a courier and just came back from Hong Kong.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Joel Simpson, by the way, the man who drew our
- 17:22Speaker 4: cover photo.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Oh, really? Yes. Oh, thank you, Joel.
- 17:25Speaker 4: The man who designed your new Photolab Geelong logo.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yes. I appreciated all of that work. Thank you for
- 17:31Speaker 1: not making the Photolab Geelong Labrador look smug.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Getting wiggy with it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I like it.
- 17:37Speaker 4: David Hamish Abbott-Smith had that one.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Jake Taylor, I don't mind. Around the World's Fair in
- 17:42Speaker 1: 80 Days.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Sam Fairbanks, Grandma Rodeo Active.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I can accept that. And that'll do it with
- 17:48Speaker 1: the new names. But thank you for all of the submissions.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We're not going to... I mean, we can't read them
- 17:52Speaker 1: all out because I don't want this to be a
- 17:53Speaker 1: 45-minute podcast of alternate names.
- 17:55Speaker 5: But.
- 17:56Speaker 1: they all, like, it's so much better when we get
- 17:59Speaker 1: that many coming through. If you want to be involved
- 18:00Speaker 1: in that kind of stuff, $ 2 plus patron. So if
- 18:02Speaker 1: you do patreon.com slash four-finger discount. Now, Mitch, trivia, what
- 18:05Speaker 1: do you got for me this week? I have got
- 18:08Speaker 1: three questions for you, Dando.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I'll start, thanks. I have much more than three.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Well, okay. I think you need to stop that, but
- 18:13Speaker 1: that's fine.
- 18:13Speaker 4: I have five.
- 18:14Speaker 1: You keep trying to show me up. I feel like
- 18:16Speaker 1: three is a wholesome number. So is five.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Five is my favorite number. Okay. Don't take it away
- 18:22Speaker 4: from me.
- 18:22Speaker 5: All right.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Well, you can keep doing five. I'll keep doing three.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Okay.
- 18:25Speaker 1: But ten trivia questions in total is a bit much.
- 18:27Speaker 4: What is Bart's birthday according to the ID?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Ah, I didn't see it. Okay.
- 18:31Speaker 4: It was February 11th, 1970.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Okay. Now, I should point out that I lost my
- 18:37Speaker 1: notes for this episode, so I've had to re-watch it hastily.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Oh. You lost your notes? I'm wondering why you didn't
- 18:42Speaker 4: have anything in front of you. Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 1: No, I'm free-balling. Is that what they call it? Free-basing. Freestyling.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 18:50Speaker 1: With the rocker microphone. Anyway, sorry. This is what happens
- 18:55Speaker 1: when I don't have notes. Bombfunk MC gets in my head.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You just become all Jimmy Fallon without a teleprompter. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: can't think properly. No, I will never be as bad
- 19:02Speaker 1: as Jimmy Fallon without a teleprompter. Anyway, the point is,
- 19:04Speaker 1: so I couldn't go back and freeze frame everything because
- 19:06Speaker 1: I had to rush through. I've just realized something.
- 19:08Speaker 4: So this episode would have been created in, this aired
- 19:11Speaker 4: in 96, it would have been created in 95, aired
- 19:13Speaker 4: in March 96. Yes. They say Bart was 25 years old.
- 19:16Speaker 1: 25 years old.
- 19:17Speaker 4: When this episode aired, according to the ID, he would
- 19:18Speaker 4: have been 26.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Oh dear. Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Oh, my.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Well, this plot's just fallen in a big hole, hasn't it?
- 19:23Speaker 4: I don't want to do the podcast anymore. Shit episode.
- 19:26Speaker 1: What dates were spring break? Oh, don't know. It was, well,
- 19:33Speaker 1: at the very least, when it was written. See, what
- 19:36Speaker 1: concerns me about this is in the calendar, there were
- 19:38Speaker 1: then three more days that were crossed off but not
- 19:40Speaker 1: written on there. Okay.
- 19:41Speaker 5: So.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I do like that they had spring break written across
- 19:43Speaker 4: the whole week.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'm going to say, I'm going to include the cross-off bit.
- 19:47Speaker 1: It was the 4th to the 23rd of April. Okay.
- 19:49Speaker 4: I knew it was April. I didn't know the dates.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 4: It was the 3rd one.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Technically, the 4th was a Sunday. So, I guess you
- 19:54Speaker 1: would say it was the 5th?
- 19:55Speaker 4: From the 4th to the... I thought, yeah, spring break
- 19:57Speaker 4: written across one line.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Oh, hang on.
- 19:58Speaker 4: 15th.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Sorry, 15th. It's written across one line, but then there are,
- 20:03Speaker 1: as I said, there are hash marks. Yep. Oh, no.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You know what they've done? What have you done?
- 20:07Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Okay. So... Technical dates of spring break. Oh, this calendar's
- 20:12Speaker 1: all over the place.
- 20:14Speaker 4: This whole trivia's all over the place.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Is the 15th through to the 19th, because the 20th
- 20:20Speaker 1: is a Saturday. Have a look at this calendar. They
- 20:22Speaker 1: have gone to the effort of putting in the split
- 20:26Speaker 1: boxes in the bottom, so you could have 27th, 28th, 29th,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and 30th. That's an amazing level of attention to detail
- 20:35Speaker 1: that I hadn't even noticed until I went back to
- 20:37Speaker 1: double-check that answer.
- 20:38Speaker 4: That's a Futurama level of attention. Attention to detail.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Well, look, they're not solving maths quiz. They're drawing calendars.
- 20:43Speaker 4: That is true. Next question from me. What's the slogan
- 20:49Speaker 4: on the Tennessee billboard, the welcome billboard?
- 20:51Speaker 1: Tennessean is tenable even.
- 20:52Speaker 4: That is correct.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Which I was a big fan of. That's like, you know,
- 20:55Speaker 1: my favorite pun. You know, I can't think of a
- 20:59Speaker 1: country one off the top of my head, but Reese
- 21:01Speaker 1: with a spoon, Reese without a spoon. Daniel Radcliffe, Daniel Normalcliffe.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Normalcliffe, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 1: My second question, what area of the Cracker Factory is where, like,
- 21:14Speaker 1: what was the name of the room where the Crackers
- 21:17Speaker 1: were salted? I don't know, but I know there was
- 21:19Speaker 1: a Husky driving on there, or riding, running around in there.
- 21:22Speaker 1: What was it, Cracker's Ho?
- 21:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It was, believe it or not, Dando, the salting room.
- 21:28Speaker 4: The salting room, okay.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 4: What is the name of the store that the boys
- 21:32Speaker 4: take Milhouse's glasses to and he smashes all the bottles?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Oh.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Good pun.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Good pun. Porn Again Christians.
- 21:46Speaker 4: That would have been good. This one's Hawksville, Tennessee.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Is that a pun?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Because you're hawking stuff.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Knoxville, Tennessee.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Oh, Knoxville. Thank you.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Knoxville, Knoxville.
- 21:59Speaker 1: My final question is what brand slash model, depending on
- 22:04Speaker 1: how you want to take it, was the license printing machine?
- 22:09Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know.
- 22:10Speaker 1: It was Minit License.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Minit License.
- 22:12Speaker 1: M-I-N-I-T.
- 22:14Speaker 4: What's the name of the equipment that Homer has to
- 22:15Speaker 4: reorder because he has his jingle over it?
- 22:18Speaker 1: It was T-457? 437? 437. Oh my God, you robbery
- 22:19Speaker 1: without a T-457. I mean, my God.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Safety command console is what it is. And finally for me,
- 22:28Speaker 4: where did Martin go on a shopping spree?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Where did... Wii World.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Wii World, yes.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Yes. Correct. Not where he bought the Al Gore-Dolph. Hello,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you are hearing me talk.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Now, Big Roddy's Rip and Rip Shake. Let's see if
- 22:43Speaker 4: you can say that, Mitch. One, two, three.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Now, Big Robby's... God damn it.
- 22:50Speaker 4: You just can't get it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: This is starting to become too much of a joke.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I need a cue card. Now, Big Roddy's Rip and Rig. Fuck.
- 22:59Speaker 4: You're getting that wrong.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Big Roddy's.
- 23:01Speaker 4: See, Mitch, I don't know whether Mitch deliberately made it
- 23:03Speaker 4: up wrong the first time, but he fucked it up
- 23:04Speaker 4: by accident that time.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Big Roddy's... Is that not what it's called? No.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Sorry, that must be... You can't do... You can't say that.
- 23:14Speaker 4: There are sponsors.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Is that the side business that they were running? Let's
- 23:17Speaker 1: move along. It's the Gold Coast. Who knows what they're... Well,
- 23:18Speaker 1: it's not even that. It's Brisbane. That's the one that
- 23:20Speaker 1: they have on the Gold Coast. Big Roddy's Rip and
- 23:22Speaker 1: Rib Shack.
- 23:23Speaker 4: You got it. You got it. They are big supporters
- 23:26Speaker 4: of the show and big supporters of The Simpsons. I
- 23:27Speaker 4: love The Simpsons. Simpsons references throughout the whole store. And Henry,
- 23:31Speaker 4: our man from Big Roddy's Ribs, he shared my parents
- 23:33Speaker 4: to a round of drinks that are up there this
- 23:35Speaker 4: weekend in Brisbane.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Thank you very much for that, Henry.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Thank you, Henry.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I mean, I had no bearing on these, but thanks anyway.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Hit the bigroddysribs.com to check out their menu. It is delicious,
- 23:45Speaker 4: delicious food.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Mention, code word, it's a secret for 10% off, but...
- 23:48Speaker 1: You know, if not even that, just say, I listen
- 23:51Speaker 1: to the show.
- 23:51Speaker 4: We mentioned the hungry horn last week, by the way.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Guess what? You get to blow a horn if you
- 23:54Speaker 4: eat it all.
- 23:55Speaker 1: You do get to blow a horn. Is that not
- 23:57Speaker 1: what I suggested?
- 23:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Like that I need to be thinking that happened?
- 24:00Speaker 4: It's already there.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's already there? Yes. That's so great.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Yeah. Can you do the horn sound again? Because it
- 24:05Speaker 4: came through great last week.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Is that about right? Yeah. I would pay just to
- 24:11Speaker 1: see you do that. Just a big fog horn. It
- 24:13Speaker 1: would be amazing. Can I just pay the price of
- 24:15Speaker 1: the meal just so I can blow the horn? And
- 24:16Speaker 1: it'd actually be like the way it would happen in.
- 24:20Speaker 1: In the Simpsons world, I've just finished, I blow the horn.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And then it cuts to the captain off the coast going,
- 24:27Speaker 1: we're near the cliffs.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Turn to the left.
- 24:30Speaker 1: And then just bang, into an iceberg.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Iceberg, why not? Off the coast of Brisbane. So head
- 24:38Speaker 4: to bigrunniesrooms.com to check out their menu. So the original
- 24:40Speaker 4: air date was March 31st, 1996. The couch gag was
- 24:43Speaker 4: the Simpsons are set like bowling pins. One of the
- 24:45Speaker 4: more memorable couch gags for me. This episode for me,
- 24:48Speaker 4: reminds me, I feel this must have been aired quite
- 24:50Speaker 4: a few times on like Super Simpsons weekends and things
- 24:52Speaker 4: like that because it always reminds me of watching it
- 24:54Speaker 4: on a Saturday morning. It must have aired time and
- 24:56Speaker 4: time again.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I suppose, yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Maybe this is the era of The Simpsons.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was this era of The Simpsons
- 25:03Speaker 1: was those marathons tended to focus on the same five
- 25:07Speaker 1: seasons over and over again. And then every now and
- 25:09Speaker 1: then there'd be a smattering of something from earlier, but
- 25:12Speaker 1: it was mostly, you know, four to eight was what
- 25:14Speaker 1: you would get. And then a little bit later, a
- 25:16Speaker 1: little bit earlier, but they were, yeah, They were the
- 25:18Speaker 1: wheelhouse of what they were going to show on a Saturday.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 4: I can actually distinctly remember my dad laughing his head
- 25:22Speaker 4: off at Homer cursing in the suit. Yeah, right. I
- 25:25Speaker 4: can visualize it. It's just one of those moments I
- 25:26Speaker 4: can remember.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Clean off. Yeah. I can visualize it falling to the floor.
- 25:33Speaker 1: It was a sad, awful day for the family. Your
- 25:36Speaker 1: poor mum comes in, sees that you've apparently killed your dad.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It's that show again on TV. I knew I shouldn't
- 25:43Speaker 1: have let him watch again. Why did I do it?
- 25:47Speaker 4: You fooled me! So, the episode kicks off with Skinner
- 25:49Speaker 4: planning his spring break holiday. I love that he's doing
- 25:51Speaker 4: it during work time.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's like the only time Springer has... Springer. Jerry Springer. Springer...
- 25:59Speaker 1: Has Springer ever been on the show? Yeah, on the show.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it happened later. Yep, or nine.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Anyway, it's the only time that Skinner has ever properly
- 26:07Speaker 1: abandoned his post. But he still comes up with a
- 26:10Speaker 1: reason to an extent. It's not like, He doesn't just
- 26:13Speaker 1: send everyone home early. He still gives them the excursion
- 26:16Speaker 1: to go on.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Did these things actually happen? I couldn't remember.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, apparently it did.
- 26:20Speaker 4: In America, but I can't remember ever doing one, going
- 26:22Speaker 4: to my parents. I remember going to my dad's work,
- 26:24Speaker 4: but not for school.
- 26:25Speaker 1: No. I mean, the only times I ever went to
- 26:27Speaker 1: dad's work when I was a kid was if I
- 26:29Speaker 1: was sick. And, you know, two working parents. You didn't
- 26:31Speaker 1: go home when you were a kid. I would sit
- 26:33Speaker 1: in the office at, you know, at dad's place of business.
- 26:37Speaker 1: And Solitaire, mate. Free sale. MS-DOS. I didn't have Solitaire
- 26:40Speaker 1: back then. If I was lucky, my grandfather had a
- 26:44Speaker 1: DOS-based golf game. If I ever got to go to
- 26:46Speaker 1: the dry cleaners when I was, you know, unwell, that
- 26:49Speaker 1: was what I... And Aldo's Adventures.
- 26:52Speaker 4: I don't remember that.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Aldo was an... Is this on a Macintosh or...? Oh, shit.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I wouldn't even be able to tell you. I think
- 26:57Speaker 1: it was PC. But Aldo was like this little not
- 27:01Speaker 1: Mario character in a sort of... He just wasn't super...
- 27:05Speaker 1: He was just Mario. It wasn't even side-scrolling, but it
- 27:07Speaker 1: was platform adventure. You had to work your way up
- 27:09Speaker 1: the screen.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Kind of like Donkey Kong? Donkey Kong was down.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Don't you dare. Don't you dare say it has any
- 27:16Speaker 1: similarities to Donkey Kong. The good people at Aldo's Adventures
- 27:19Speaker 1: will not have it.
- 27:20Speaker 4: The game I remember playing a lot as a kid
- 27:21Speaker 4: was Where in the World Has Come San Diego on
- 27:23Speaker 4: the Macintosh.
- 27:24Speaker 1: On the Mac. That was always in school on the computer.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Jack and the Beanstalk was another big one. Yeah, and
- 27:31Speaker 1: that 3D tank game.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Yeah, what about the one where it was a skier?
- 27:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah. Um, and like the bottom wall snowman
- 27:39Speaker 1: would always eat you and you couldn't get away from
- 27:41Speaker 1: him no matter how good you were. Yeah. That was
- 27:42Speaker 1: just randomly generated to say, it's time for you to stop.
- 27:47Speaker 4: So getting back, uh, Skinner, what's he doing? He's organizing
- 27:49Speaker 4: a trip to Hong Kong.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah. For whatever reason.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah. Bizarre.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Um, you, you wouldn't have thought, why.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Would you want to go back to that place of
- 27:56Speaker 4: the world after Vietnam?
- 27:57Speaker 1: I was going to say, you wouldn't have thought like
- 27:59Speaker 1: a man who suffers from post-traumatic stress.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Would head back to Asia, but maybe he just wants
- 28:04Speaker 4: authentic sushi.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Well, yeah. Someone that can get the spices right.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Yes. What was it?
- 28:09Speaker 1: Stew? It was a stew. Yes.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Um, but they've got all the times wrong. Now this,
- 28:14Speaker 4: actually this whole episode, it's kind of dated, but that's
- 28:17Speaker 4: the charm of it for me. Or do you reckon
- 28:19Speaker 4: that's dated? That joke? No, no, no, no, no. What's
- 28:22Speaker 4: coming up. So the, the plane tickets.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I mean. That happens all the time,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but it.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Wouldn't be $ 7, 000 now.
- 28:28Speaker 1: No, but the joke still stands. I had this happen
- 28:30Speaker 1: with Jetstar. Um, Sorry, beep that. I've had this happen where, yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: you try to make a last-minute booking. A few years back,
- 28:41Speaker 1: I was in Bali, wanted to bring a flight forward
- 28:44Speaker 1: because it was a three-week holiday, and after two and
- 28:46Speaker 1: a half weeks, I was like, I've had enough of this,
- 28:48Speaker 1: and there was a cricket semifinal to go and dominate in.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So I tried to bring a flight forward, and it
- 28:53Speaker 1: cost me more than what the original return price was
- 28:58Speaker 1: to book one flight back because I was changing the bookings.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So $ 7, 000 is an exaggeration, obviously, to make the joke work.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But that budget airline... GM Chrysler. GM Chrysler is a
- 29:10Speaker 1: very good.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Exclamation.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But yeah, budget airlines screw you over all the time
- 29:15Speaker 1: for making the slightest change. Jetstar, sorry, another one with Jetstar. Like, oh,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you booked your flight, that's fine. Oh, you want to
- 29:21Speaker 1: add luggage to that flight? Sucker, it's going to cost you....
- 29:26Speaker 4: Well, when I say dated, I mean the fact that
- 29:28Speaker 4: they're reading books and roadmaps when they're driving around. These days,
- 29:32Speaker 4: the kids would just pull out their Google Maps. and
- 29:34Speaker 4: Bart would just be able to text someone, find his
- 29:36Speaker 4: way back, order an Uber, and have a pay when
- 29:39Speaker 4: he arrived.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, technology has sucked the life out of storytelling a
- 29:43Speaker 1: little bit in that regard. Because there's always a convenient
- 29:46Speaker 1: answer to any problem now.
- 29:47Speaker 4: But the thing about this, it reminds me of going
- 29:50Speaker 4: on road trips with your friends or with my parents
- 29:52Speaker 4: and getting lost. And if you had an outdated mailways,
- 29:55Speaker 4: you're fucked. Yeah.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Or if it was, you know, in the case of
- 29:58Speaker 1: my father, any trip to the MCG as a boy.
- 30:03Speaker 4: I can see your dad having some serious road rage
- 30:05Speaker 4: as well.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Oh, mate, it was terrifying. You didn't make a noise.
- 30:09Speaker 1: You did not want to speak in the car.
- 30:10Speaker 4: You didn't want to exist. Martin Malloy might be on
- 30:13Speaker 4: in the background, but don't you dare laugh. My earliest
- 30:16Speaker 4: memory is my dad... calling a guy a fucking dickhead
- 30:19Speaker 4: as road rage.
- 30:20Speaker 1: That's brilliant.
- 30:20Speaker 4: That's my earliest memory.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Earliest memory in life.
- 30:22Speaker 4: On the way to daycare.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Your earliest memory is that my earliest memory ever is
- 30:26Speaker 1: of nearly drowning at the beach. That's a pretty fucked
- 30:29Speaker 1: up childhood to look at.
- 30:32Speaker 4: My dad yelling at you, you're a fucking dickhead whilst
- 30:34Speaker 4: you're drowning.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. Can you swim now? I'm a terrible swimmer.
- 30:39Speaker 1: No, I'm really bad in the water.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I hate water. Anyway, getting back to the episode. So
- 30:43Speaker 4: what is Skinner do to counteract the fact that he
- 30:44Speaker 4: doesn't want to have to pay all this money?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Sends everyone on... The excursion over to, well, it was
- 30:50Speaker 1: just visit your parents.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Go to work with your parents.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 4: And even the kids are confused.
- 30:54Speaker 5: What?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 4: This isn't a real thing. So then Bart is staying
- 30:57Speaker 4: at home. Bart is a genius. It's like the ultimate loophole.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 4: The problem was he should have read the note, realized
- 31:03Speaker 4: that it actually said you can't be a housewife.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 4: And not show Marge.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Yes. That was where it all went wrong. But I
- 31:09Speaker 1: really love, like Bart is living it up on that couch,
- 31:11Speaker 1: pouring milk straight into the cereal box. Yes. Amazing. I
- 31:14Speaker 1: want to try that at least once. Just looking around
- 31:17Speaker 1: Marge for the TV is also brilliant.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Lisa is very annoyed by this because she doesn't want
- 31:23Speaker 4: to have to go to the power plant because she
- 31:24Speaker 4: doesn't like the power plant.
- 31:25Speaker 1: No, of course. She's been campaigning against them for years.
- 31:28Speaker 4: And Marge is just like, well, there you go.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Bring them down from the inside.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Now, what I love most about this is Nancy's delivery
- 31:36Speaker 4: of Bart's shock when Lisa suggests the DMV. Yeah. It's
- 31:39Speaker 4: not so much that it's the animation of just Bart
- 31:42Speaker 4: looking at Garth.
- 31:43Speaker 1: The face.
- 31:43Speaker 4: And the cereal.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 4: The cereal says it all.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Falling out of the box. It's like the jaw dropping
- 31:47Speaker 1: to the floor, but just the cereal. Or Roger Myers'
- 31:49Speaker 1: cigarette bout.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Yes. Hitting the ashtray. Exactly like that, yeah. So we're
- 31:53Speaker 4: at the DMV.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Sorry, also is Lisa's really smug, self-satisfied face at that
- 31:59Speaker 1: same moment.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Just, yeah. She's smart a lot lately, Lisa.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and as she should be. She's smarter than everyone else,
- 32:06Speaker 1: and that entitles you.
- 32:07Speaker 4: At the DMV, and Bart is really, really bored. I
- 32:09Speaker 4: love that Paddy and Salma brag about some days we
- 32:11Speaker 4: don't let the line move at all.
- 32:15Speaker 1: It's still a problem. Someone that referred to Vic Rhodes
- 32:20Speaker 1: as the RTA.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Made that.
- 32:23Speaker 1: This is a thing that for 40 years, if not longer,
- 32:27Speaker 1: for as long as this place in whatever country you're from...
- 32:31Speaker 1: The road authorities, like where you have to go. DMV
- 32:34Speaker 1: in America, RTA is Road Transit Authority, but VicRoads or
- 32:38Speaker 1: wherever it is.
- 32:39Speaker 4: We get your license.
- 32:39Speaker 1: If you're going in for your license, you know you're
- 32:41Speaker 1: waiting two to three hours. And it's always been that way.
- 32:44Speaker 1: You see them sitting there just playing with themselves, basically
- 32:47Speaker 1: doing nothing. That's exactly what they do. Yes. That's why
- 32:50Speaker 1: the counters are so high.
- 32:53Speaker 4: So then Bart says, well, at least I'm not at
- 32:55Speaker 4: the cracker factory like Milhouse, because you would think that
- 32:57Speaker 4: would be boring.
- 32:57Speaker 1: But no, it's like a theme park. Well, for Milhouse
- 33:02Speaker 1: it is. I don't know that it would be the
- 33:04Speaker 1: most exciting place in the world for me.
- 33:05Speaker 4: It's got a batpole, man.
- 33:06Speaker 1: The batpole's pretty awesome, actually. The batpole music is pretty great.
- 33:10Speaker 4: The thing is, though, it's kind of sad seeing this
- 33:12Speaker 4: scene when you know what's coming in the next season
- 33:14Speaker 4: with Kirk and the Cracker Factory.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yeah, true. But it's a fun... I like that they
- 33:19Speaker 1: kept that occupation. And the fact that they do show
- 33:23Speaker 1: you the happiness helps sell how sad his life becomes.
- 33:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it. But you never actually see Milhouse and
- 33:28Speaker 4: his parents having fun together. I think this is one
- 33:31Speaker 4: of the only moments. I can't recall any other time.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Yeah, no. Definitely not. And telling that he's away from
- 33:38Speaker 1: his wife when they are having a good time.
- 33:40Speaker 4: So then we get to the power plant and Lisa
- 33:42Speaker 4: is certainly not having a good time at the power plant.
- 33:44Speaker 4: It's very boring. Not much to do there.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Just watching Homer eat donuts. Donut?
- 33:47Speaker 5: No thanks. Do you have any fruit? It says purple
- 33:51Speaker 5: stuff inside. Purple is a fruit.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Purple is a fruit. I forgot it was from this scene. Yeah.
- 33:56Speaker 4: I thought it was from when he gains the weight.
- 33:58Speaker 4: But no, it's just not.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, you know something that I
- 34:03Speaker 1: really liked in this scene, and this is a great
- 34:06Speaker 1: example of why I really enjoy this episode, and it's
- 34:09Speaker 1: the fact that the storytelling in the episode.
- 34:11Speaker 4: The set up for the lights?
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yeah. The fact that you introduce this map, and it's
- 34:14Speaker 1: just a funny joke, and then it gets re- sort
- 34:18Speaker 1: of seeded in your head about halfway through the episode,
- 34:21Speaker 1: and then it gets used in Lisa actually... Like, the
- 34:25Speaker 1: map is used to help save the day and help
- 34:27Speaker 1: formulate how they're going to get Bart back home.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Like, the obvious joke that I was, in my head,
- 34:33Speaker 1: thinking it was going to go to is that when he's, like,
- 34:36Speaker 1: unscrewing one of those lights, it's like.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Diablo Canyon 2? Why can't it be Diablo Canyon 1?
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was going to be a case of, like,
- 34:42Speaker 1: just change the light for one that works. And then
- 34:45Speaker 1: cut to see Diablo Canyon 2 just up in flames
- 34:48Speaker 1: or something like that. But it was very cool, the
- 34:51Speaker 1: fact that this thing that gets introduced then comes back.
- 34:53Speaker 1: It's like proper 360 storytelling that you don't always get
- 34:58Speaker 1: in a 22-minute sitcom.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Just very subtly saying, it's still there.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Just remember, it's there.
- 35:03Speaker 4: It's important. You just don't know it yet. Martin's in
- 35:06Speaker 4: at the stock market and he almost makes $ 12 million.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Yeah, in the futures market. With soy. On soy. Soy! Soy!
- 35:12Speaker 1: All of them just joining in. Yep. It's $ 1 million,
- 35:15Speaker 1: not $ 12, but anyway. Oh, sorry.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Sorry, it's not $ 12.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Yeah. All but $ 600. You got greedy, Martin. Yes. 15
- 35:24Speaker 1: seconds of his life.
- 35:25Speaker 4: So he only gets the $ 600. Lisa then suggests, what
- 35:28Speaker 4: this room needs, it just needs an imagination. Imagination of
- 35:31Speaker 4: a child.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah. So she sees the two suits. I love that
- 35:33Speaker 1: Homer doesn't know what they are. Yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Now, this is something I think you could relate to
- 35:39Speaker 4: as a kid. Because she says, Apollo Homer.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Playing space.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Playing space, yeah. Is this something you did as a kid?
- 35:44Speaker 4: I can imagine you doing it.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Look.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Putting a helmet on one of your toys?
- 35:48Speaker 1: Not in my memory, but it would not surprise me
- 35:51Speaker 1: if someone had footage of me doing it.
- 35:53Speaker 4: If you were role-playing Apollo 13 as a kid, and
- 35:56Speaker 4: you did it, just say you did it. One-man play.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I'd have done all the characters.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Which character would you have played, do you think?
- 36:02Speaker 1: Gene. Ed Harris. We've never lost an American in space.
- 36:05Speaker 1: We're sure as hell not going to lose one on
- 36:06Speaker 1: my watch.
- 36:07Speaker 4: So you've got the three teddies on the couch.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm in the other room. Yes.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Oh, mate, that would be fantastic. Do you want to
- 36:19Speaker 4: make my kid do that?
- 36:20Speaker 1: It's actually, this goes a long way to show what
- 36:22Speaker 1: sort of a kid I was. Some of my favourite
- 36:24Speaker 1: scenes of Apollo 13 were Gary Sinise in the simulator
- 36:28Speaker 1: trying to figure out the correct sequence to power up
- 36:31Speaker 1: the LEM and not go over 12 amps. Just him
- 36:35Speaker 1: flicking switches and trying to get it right. I fucking
- 36:38Speaker 1: ate that shit up.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Were you a fan of Kristoff? In Truman Show? Ed Harris?
- 36:43Speaker 1: Oh, I'm a fan of Ed Harris in everything. But
- 36:45Speaker 1: particularly Ed Harris behind a console.
- 36:48Speaker 4: I can see you like walking around Geelong and talking
- 36:50Speaker 4: like Ed Harris from the Truman.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Show as if you were God. If I do ever
- 36:54Speaker 1: see some like localised rank.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Like a supermarket and you're talking like Christoph. Oh man,
- 37:02Speaker 4: you with the power of talking over a supermarket would
- 37:04Speaker 4: be trouble, I reckon.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I once got Not in trouble because the manager could
- 37:10Speaker 1: not peg who had done it. But I spent a
- 37:13Speaker 1: night just doing different voice impressions over the PA system.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Which place of business?
- 37:18Speaker 1: Woolworths down Drysdale.
- 37:20Speaker 4: It was a Woolworths?
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:21Speaker 4: So you worked there?
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it was one of my first jobs in high
- 37:23Speaker 1: school as a teenager. So the first one was just
- 37:26Speaker 1: jumping on the PA and giving it the, Hi, I'm Chucky.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Wanna play? Just in the middle of nothing.
- 37:34Speaker 4: That's it?
- 37:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that was all I said. And then later, it was,
- 37:40Speaker 1: because you know how they'd always be like, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 1: Brendan Dando, service 22 at the front counter, or Brendan,
- 37:48Speaker 1: could you please come to the storeroom, blah, blah, blah.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So after, there were like four or five calls in
- 37:53Speaker 1: a row for the same person to go to different areas.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So then I jumped on the PA and went, let's
- 37:59Speaker 1: say it's you, it was Brendan Dando, service 22 at
- 38:02Speaker 1: the chopper. We need you to get to the chopper now. Go.
- 38:08Speaker 4: You just go, get your hands off my penis. And
- 38:11Speaker 4: then I could just.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Watch the manager just beelining up and down every aisle
- 38:15Speaker 1: trying to find who'd done it. Like, was that you?
- 38:18Speaker 4: No, mate.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Sorry, I was in the cool room. I don't know
- 38:21Speaker 1: what happened.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Good times. We cut back to the DMV and clean this.
- 38:27Speaker 4: I love the, how did you get any photos taken?
- 38:30Speaker 4: Someone then leaves the, now, she has to actually say,
- 38:33Speaker 4: I left the license printing machine on to sort of
- 38:36Speaker 4: spell it out to the younger audience, I think.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit. Or possibly even to spell it
- 38:41Speaker 1: out to Bart. Would Bart necessarily have had that temptation
- 38:45Speaker 1: had she not said the line?
- 38:47Speaker 4: So they spelled, but she didn't have to spell it. No,
- 38:49Speaker 4: she said, I'll turn the machine off. If she's just
- 38:51Speaker 4: saying it to Bart, she wouldn't have to say that.
- 38:54Speaker 4: The licensed printing machine.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Oh, sorry. The actual words, licensed printing machine.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Yes.
- 38:59Speaker 4: No, yes.
- 38:59Speaker 1: In that instance, yes, I agree.
- 39:01Speaker 4: But then what does Bart do? Takes full advantage. Yeah.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Parts his hair.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Dress as himself older.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yes. Keeps the same name though.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Silly. You don't have to worry about trying to remember
- 39:11Speaker 1: a new name. I've always liked that.
- 39:13Speaker 4: But if you're going to try and use it around Springfield,
- 39:14Speaker 4: like Mo knows who Bart Simpson is.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Well, apparently he forgot.
- 39:19Speaker 4: That just seems a bit silly to me that he
- 39:21Speaker 4: used the same name.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Time flies.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Okay. Wasn't it just a couple of episodes ago that
- 39:26Speaker 4: Moe was engaging with Bart?
- 39:28Speaker 5: Was it?
- 39:29Speaker 4: When was Uncle Moe's family feedback?
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's all blurred. Yes.
- 39:32Speaker 4: It's this season, I think. Anyway. So then he goes
- 39:34Speaker 4: and brags to his friends. He shows Milhouse and he
- 39:36Speaker 4: shows Nelson and they can't believe it. Spells it out
- 39:38Speaker 4: that it's a fake ID.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I love the joke is very funny here that Milhouse
- 39:43Speaker 1: goes from like, this is completely fake. Yeah, it's a
- 39:45Speaker 1: fake ID.
- 39:46Speaker 4: A fake ID!
- 39:47Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, the words, fake ID. You ever used a
- 39:49Speaker 1: fake ID? I think we've all tried once. I've told
- 39:51Speaker 1: you that I have, yeah. I think I've actually said
- 39:53Speaker 1: it on this podcast a couple of times. Oh, you
- 39:54Speaker 1: may have, yeah. I had two different birth certificates to
- 39:56Speaker 1: get into movies. That's right, birth certificates. That's extreme. Faked
- 39:59Speaker 1: my birth certificates so I could, photocopies of, but you know,
- 40:03Speaker 1: so I could either get into an MA movie on
- 40:05Speaker 1: my own if I needed to, or I could slip
- 40:07Speaker 1: in for the under 15 student discount if I needed to.
- 40:10Speaker 4: I tried once. The guy did a double take. I
- 40:13Speaker 4: panicked and ran. Left the fake ID and everything. So
- 40:16Speaker 4: I borrowed an ID from my friend from school. Not
- 40:18Speaker 4: only did I not get into the club, but he
- 40:20Speaker 4: then lost his ID. Chicken shit.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:23Speaker 4: At the Geelong Hotel, which is no longer there, I
- 40:25Speaker 4: don't think. Dollar Pots used to be.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 4: I think it's now a hospital, which is probably better
- 40:30Speaker 4: for the community.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Slightly.
- 40:33Speaker 4: So what happens when they get the ID? They go...
- 40:35Speaker 4: around it's all montage different places yeah just travelling around
- 40:38Speaker 4: Springfield now Naked Lunch explain so Naked Lunch is a
- 40:40Speaker 4: movie about heroin addiction homosexuality and features a lot of
- 40:43Speaker 4: it features a lot of nudity but not oh it
- 40:46Speaker 4: doesn't feature a lot of nudity maybe it's just sex
- 40:49Speaker 4: but certainly not what the boys are looking for and
- 40:52Speaker 4: then I do love the subtlety of that punchline from
- 40:55Speaker 4: Nelson like I can think of at least two wrong
- 40:57Speaker 4: two words wrong in that title just basically it lets
- 41:01Speaker 4: anyone that knows of the movie that joke works for
- 41:04Speaker 4: them there's no lunch at probably not, and certainly not
- 41:07Speaker 4: Naked Lunch.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Yes. But anyone that doesn't, I mean, it's a joke
- 41:12Speaker 1: about a movie that's going to be too offensive for kids,
- 41:14Speaker 1: so they're not spelling it out. Or, if you're like
- 41:17Speaker 1: me and you hadn't seen Naked Lunch, it forces you
- 41:19Speaker 1: to go and then look it up and go, oh,
- 41:21Speaker 1: that's what that's about. That's very clever.
- 41:22Speaker 4: When you were a 10-year-old.
- 41:24Speaker 1: With your fake ID. If I had access to the
- 41:26Speaker 1: internet when I was 10, I probably would.
- 41:28Speaker 4: Have looked it up. They then go to Moe's and
- 41:30Speaker 4: explain what happens there.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They highlight alcoholism. Then Milhouse screams, Spring break!
- 41:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 4: When are we going to get rowdy? When are we
- 41:37Speaker 4: going to do something about this? So that's when Martin
- 41:40Speaker 4: enters the equation with his $ 600 and Bart puts the
- 41:43Speaker 4: two together and realizes that they can rent a car
- 41:45Speaker 4: and this is where shenanigans begin.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Yes. I really like... Well, the only small thing, how
- 41:51Speaker 1: does he still have $ 600 after his shopping spree?
- 41:53Speaker 4: That's what I was going to say as well.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah. That bugged me a tiny bit. I really liked
- 41:58Speaker 1: when they've rented the car, turn the corner and then
- 42:01Speaker 1: Flipsy jumps out the window and... It's the way it's
- 42:05Speaker 1: barking just has a really good sense of ominous kind
- 42:08Speaker 1: of shit's not going to work out here. Even before
- 42:10Speaker 1: it gets run over.
- 42:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I would have been happy for it to just continue
- 42:14Speaker 1: going with the barking and fade out on that. But
- 42:16Speaker 1: I mean the, The metaphors rammed home pretty hard when
- 42:19Speaker 1: he actually gets crushed by a car.
- 42:21Speaker 4: You know Jet lost his shit when I was watching this?
- 42:23Speaker 1: At Flipsy? Yeah. Yeah, right.
- 42:25Speaker 4: That barking sound. Driving mental.
- 42:26Speaker 1: You have to convince him it wasn't a real dog.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I did.
- 42:28Speaker 1: It's okay, Jetty. He's not really run over.
- 42:31Speaker 4: We come back and Bart has prepared an airtight, utterly
- 42:35Speaker 4: plausible alibi to tell their parents. Nelson's delivery is amazing.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I've been selected to represent the school at the National
- 42:43Speaker 2: Grammar Rodeo at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada. I've been
- 42:47Speaker 2: selected to represent the school at the National Grammar Rodeo
- 42:50Speaker 2: at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I'm going away for a week. See ya!
- 42:57Speaker 4: Lisa is very annoyed, though. She's jealous as well.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:01Speaker 4: Bart's being picked, but she's trying to... She knows something's
- 43:03Speaker 4: not right here. Yeah.
- 43:05Speaker 1: And even at the end... That's not Latin. Yes. Bart's
- 43:08Speaker 1: faking it. I've used Dorcas Malorcas a lot to my sister.
- 43:11Speaker 4: Didn't like it.
- 43:12Speaker 1: No?
- 43:13Speaker 4: Didn't like it at all.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Was she smart enough to realise it wasn't Latin?
- 43:15Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Did she go around and... Do you know my brother
- 43:17Speaker 1: speaks Latin? Yeah.
- 43:19Speaker 4: She just knows that it was on The Simpsons and
- 43:21Speaker 4: Bart was using it as a payout.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Okay. Yes.
- 43:23Speaker 4: But the thing is, when Bart comes to tell me
- 43:25Speaker 4: of Lisa, she goes.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I knew it.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Because why would we have our national grammar radio in
- 43:29Speaker 4: another country or whatever she says? Do you think they
- 43:32Speaker 4: had her say that for viewers who didn't pick up
- 43:34Speaker 4: on it? Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I mean, of course. There are always going to be
- 43:36Speaker 1: people that don't pay attention. It's like that old joke.
- 43:42Speaker 1: You show a diagram of like a bird sitting on
- 43:45Speaker 1: a roof and it's a pointed roof. And you say,
- 43:47Speaker 1: rooster lays an egg. Which way does the egg roll?
- 43:48Speaker 1: And they say, left. You say, it's a rooster. Roosters
- 43:51Speaker 1: don't lay eggs.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Ha ha.
- 43:52Speaker 1: You're the dumbest person that ever existed. Or there was
- 43:54Speaker 1: a horrible train crash on the border of Victoria and
- 43:56Speaker 1: New South Wales. Where did they bury the survivors? So yes,
- 43:59Speaker 1: it's one of those things that's going to go over
- 44:01Speaker 1: the head of a lot of people. And then they
- 44:03Speaker 1: point it out. And a lot of people in, there
- 44:04Speaker 1: was this collective sound all across America.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Did it hurt? A little bit.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It was quite loud. I wish I was filming that.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I had to commit to get it on mic. There
- 44:18Speaker 1: was an instant sense of regret on your face. I
- 44:22Speaker 1: knew it was coming.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Do you want to explain what you just did?
- 44:25Speaker 1: I think people can understand that that was the head
- 44:27Speaker 1: slapping sound effect. It just took me back to the
- 44:30Speaker 1: time I nearly knocked myself out in a pantomime.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Really?
- 44:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I was playing... uh we were playing up like
- 44:36Speaker 1: a wake up jeff kind of aspect because little kids
- 44:39Speaker 1: pantomime for little kids they're great fun yeah and so
- 44:42Speaker 1: it was jack and the beanstalk so it was wake
- 44:44Speaker 1: up jack and i felt i did it day one
- 44:48Speaker 1: and the kids didn't laugh as much as i would
- 44:49Speaker 1: have liked so day two i was like i'm really
- 44:51Speaker 1: gonna smash my head on this i was in like
- 44:53Speaker 1: a little windowsill so i was like yeah kids love
- 44:55Speaker 1: pain i'm really gonna go hard into this windowsill here
- 44:58Speaker 1: and then Very nearly gave myself a concussion. Like, I
- 45:01Speaker 1: was that dizzy for the next 10 minutes of the play.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Managed to remember my lines, so, you know, I was
- 45:06Speaker 1: at least a little bit okay. But, yeah, anything for
- 45:10Speaker 1: those little bastards. Did they laugh this time? Yeah, they
- 45:12Speaker 1: loved it.
- 45:13Speaker 4: I thought it was worth it. Like a wrestler. Like
- 45:14Speaker 4: Mickey Rourke from the wrestling. It's all about the.
- 45:17Speaker 1: It's about the crotch, yeah. They didn't like it as
- 45:19Speaker 1: much when I pulled the blade out and slashed my
- 45:21Speaker 1: forehead open. That went a bit too far. I learned
- 45:24Speaker 1: a valuable lesson that day. There's a fine line between
- 45:26Speaker 1: comedy and tragedy.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Then the boys are driving away. This is one of
- 45:31Speaker 4: the more memorable scenes from the episode with it. Been
- 45:33Speaker 4: driving all night, my hands went on the wheels.
- 45:35Speaker 1: It's a sweet intro.
- 45:36Speaker 4: It's awesome visual as well. They had to actually use
- 45:38Speaker 4: computer animation for this. One of the first times in
- 45:40Speaker 4: The Simpsons since The Treehouse of Horror.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Of the aerial shot.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Yep.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Driving around the car. I just love the shot of
- 45:45Speaker 4: their hair blowing in the breeze.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that moment for me as a
- 45:50Speaker 1: teen was listening to Boys of Summer. Same thing. Driving
- 45:53Speaker 1: in my mate Paul's... Ooh, I want to say Nissen
- 45:56Speaker 1: Pulsar Hatch. windows down, and Boys of Summer blasting as
- 46:01Speaker 1: we were driving up to Noosa. And it never felt
- 46:03Speaker 1: more alive in my life.
- 46:05Speaker 4: For me, it was Banger Gone by T-Rex. Yeah, okay.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Love that song.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Yeah. So Milhouse is then adjusting the radio. Another dated thing,
- 46:13Speaker 4: because we don't have radios like this anymore, but remember
- 46:14Speaker 4: when you used to have to have the dial on
- 46:15Speaker 4: the exact spot? Yeah. You knock it a fraction. You'd
- 46:18Speaker 4: turn it, think you'd turn the volume up, but you
- 46:19Speaker 4: actually turn it into the tuner.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 4: You're like, God damn it. But then Nelson gets annoyed
- 46:23Speaker 4: with Milhouse doing it, smacks him in the back.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Of the head. He sure did.
- 46:26Speaker 4: He sure did.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:27Speaker 4: What a fuss. Best moments. Then we get the cup holder.
- 46:31Speaker 4: We've got to stop and get a cup. Barn is
- 46:34Speaker 4: then using cruise control.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Not a wise option.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I like the way the car is drawn so big
- 46:39Speaker 1: that he can walk around on the stairs. Yeah, yeah. Like,
- 46:41Speaker 1: it just, again, it underscores the fact that.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Is he walking, though?
- 46:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually walking. He actually walks between Nelson and Martin.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Or Milton.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Yes.
- 46:51Speaker 1: But, like, it's really cool that... Sorry, it's a really
- 46:54Speaker 1: nice touch of animation. Where it, again, just shows that
- 46:57Speaker 1: these are little boys in a man's world.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. Like you said earlier, though, it's just
- 47:01Speaker 4: I love how Bart's embraced everything. He's just so easygoing now.
- 47:04Speaker 4: He's just up for whatever. He's free.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah. They drive through the great cornfields of Canada. Yes.
- 47:11Speaker 1: We haven't quite got to that scene yet, though. Well,
- 47:13Speaker 1: they hit the cornfield. Yes, they hit the cornfield. They
- 47:14Speaker 1: all scream.
- 47:15Speaker 4: We cut to Homer changing the bulbs where they're reminding you,
- 47:18Speaker 4: just pay attention. It's going to pay off later. He
- 47:20Speaker 4: then calls home because he wants Lisa to be there
- 47:22Speaker 4: because he's bored.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Marge is so happy here, too. Yeah. This is one
- 47:26Speaker 1: thing that... You do feel sorry for her in this one.
- 47:28Speaker 1: I can't remember the last time you called me from work.
- 47:29Speaker 1: A little, but it helps.
- 47:31Speaker 4: It's funny, but... The fact.
- 47:33Speaker 1: That she cares so much really helps set up the
- 47:36Speaker 1: comedy later on. Had she not cared, it wouldn't have
- 47:39Speaker 1: been very funny.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 1: You've still got to feel for her, though. Pathos and
- 47:43Speaker 1: a bit of schadenfreude. You're taking joy in the fact
- 47:45Speaker 1: that someone else is not. But it's... it's really really
- 47:50Speaker 1: well written this whole thing well constructed to pay off
- 47:53Speaker 1: not only now but when Bart calls later on.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Yeah he invites Lisa to work with him because he's
- 47:58Speaker 4: bored by himself he.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Needs Lisa there he misses her yeah which is what
- 48:01Speaker 1: I again this is one of the things that I
- 48:02Speaker 1: really loved it's like Daddy Daughter Day back in Lisa
- 48:05Speaker 1: the Greek that Homer even though there it was about
- 48:08Speaker 1: ill begotten gains but Homer so often neglects Lisa but
- 48:12Speaker 1: is realising here how much he loves his little.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Girl this is really a Lisa Homer season Lisa the Vegetarian,
- 48:18Speaker 4: Lisa the Oconoclast.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yep.
- 48:19Speaker 4: A lot of episodes. Bart then reveals that they're not
- 48:21Speaker 4: going to the grammar radio. So they've just come through
- 48:23Speaker 4: the cornfields of Canada. The vast cornfields of Canada.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Which is something that is a very funny sentence coming
- 48:30Speaker 1: from Martin because he should know a lot better.
- 48:32Speaker 4: You know what I love about this? As a throwback
- 48:34Speaker 4: to Nelson not telling his mum the truth. Because he's like,
- 48:37Speaker 4: we're going to a grammar radio?
- 48:38Speaker 1: He didn't read the note. He didn't know what the
- 48:40Speaker 1: L by was. I just love that.
- 48:43Speaker 5: So great.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Martin then questions, where are we going? Yeah.
- 48:47Speaker 1: They then pull out the travel books, as you were
- 48:49Speaker 1: talking before, and maps and all that sort of thing.
- 48:51Speaker 1: It's a weird thing here, the Macon, Georgia reference. I
- 48:55Speaker 1: don't get why... Not as in I don't get, but
- 48:58Speaker 1: I don't know the best of my looking couldn't uncover
- 49:01Speaker 1: if there was anything else to this.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Andy Williams apparently has a connection to Macon, Georgia.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Okay, that'll do then.
- 49:08Speaker 4: There's a reason Nelson would want to go to Georgia,
- 49:11Speaker 4: because he likes Andy Williams.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Because he likes Andy Williams.
- 49:12Speaker 4: I don't know what the connection is, I just read
- 49:13Speaker 4: that somewhere.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Okay, alright, that'll work. But they end up deciding from
- 49:17Speaker 1: Milhouse to go to the county fair.
- 49:20Speaker 4: The 1982 world's fair.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Yeah um I'm trying to have a quick scan through
- 49:23Speaker 1: Frinkiac to see if we know that it's 1982 yet.
- 49:26Speaker 4: When in that book yeah it says 1982 on the
- 49:29Speaker 4: front it does on the book.
- 49:30Speaker 1: In that scene yes it does indeed good because I
- 49:33Speaker 1: didn't notice it until the end I went oh I
- 49:34Speaker 1: hope they haven't retrofitted that for the reveal but no um.
- 49:39Speaker 4: That should be the first hint to older viewers. This
- 49:41Speaker 4: isn't going to be what the kids think it is.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:43Speaker 4: This whole episode sort of highlights that adult life isn't
- 49:46Speaker 4: as exciting as kids think it is.
- 49:47Speaker 1: No, that's very true. Because there's responsibilities and consequences. Freedom
- 49:49Speaker 1: is not as exciting as it is.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 49:51Speaker 1: So it's a choice between Disney and Knoxville.
- 49:53Speaker 2: So, it's a choice between Disney World and Knoxville.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Knoxville!
- 49:58Speaker 3: Knoxville!
- 49:58Speaker 2: Knoxville!
- 50:00Speaker 5: I concur.
- 50:01Speaker 4: Homer and Lisa then steal the candy. This is a
- 50:03Speaker 4: nice touch.
- 50:04Speaker 1: It is. Where Smithers comes along, about to get grumpy.
- 50:08Speaker 1: but then takes the candy. Good work, Simpsons. Apparently, the
- 50:14Speaker 1: Jolly Ranchers has something.
- 50:15Speaker 4: To do with... It's a gay joke.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I mean, I assumed that, because the word jolly is
- 50:20Speaker 1: in it, and it's Smithers. Okay, so what it is,
- 50:23Speaker 1: it's not... I've gone to our good friends at Urban Dictionary,
- 50:26Speaker 1: so it's not that it's a gay thing in and
- 50:28Speaker 1: of itself, but a Jolly Rancher is a term used
- 50:30Speaker 1: for a guy who can stay so hard that girls
- 50:33Speaker 1: can blah, blah, blah. Can we get that beep again? Yes. Um... So, basically,
- 50:39Speaker 1: I guess the catchphrase for the Jolly Rancher is that
- 50:42Speaker 1: it's going to stay hard a long time. It's like
- 50:43Speaker 1: a gobstopper type thing. Okay.
- 50:45Speaker 4: I'm not sure the writers were going there.
- 50:47Speaker 1: No, I think they would have been. You reckon?
- 50:48Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:52Speaker 4: I also like Homer's theory. Isn't it something if it's
- 50:54Speaker 4: been in there for over a year, it's free?
- 50:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:55Speaker 4: Or more than a month or something? Yeah.
- 50:57Speaker 1: If it's been in there for a year, it's up
- 50:58Speaker 1: for grabs.
- 50:59Speaker 4: Yes, it's up for grabs.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Have you been able to get stuff for free out
- 51:02Speaker 4: of a vending machine? At Ford, there used to be
- 51:04Speaker 4: a vending machine.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Every now and then, you'd get a bonus
- 51:06Speaker 1: Coke can or something.
- 51:07Speaker 4: At the Ford vending machine in the smoking oasis where
- 51:09Speaker 4: I used to work, if you picked number 56, the
- 51:12Speaker 4: Coke Zero.
- 51:12Speaker 1: You got a free Falcon. Always.
- 51:15Speaker 4: I wish. Always free. It always gives you your money back.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Sweet. I've never been lucky enough to have an ATM
- 51:19Speaker 1: go astray. I've heard tales.
- 51:23Speaker 4: I've had one eat my card, which is the opposite.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Well, your card was probably expired. Or you put it
- 51:27Speaker 1: in the wrong pin. Or you left it there too long.
- 51:29Speaker 1: They're one of the three reasons. A little bit of
- 51:31Speaker 1: bank facts for you there, guys. Yes. Have some knowledge.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Homer mentions the night shift. Yeah, and yeah, organizes the
- 51:39Speaker 1: slumber party. I like that Homer sort of gets more
- 51:41Speaker 1: excited here as he's giggling.
- 51:43Speaker 4: So he's got a friend.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Yeah. It is like he's got a friend, but it's
- 51:47Speaker 1: also like he's regressed to being an eight-year-old girl.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Yes, that is true, yeah. Road rage.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so we get Winnipeg. Everyone knows Winnipeg.
- 51:56Speaker 4: It's brilliant.
- 51:59Speaker 1: You kids can't keep your heads to yourself. I'm going
- 52:03Speaker 1: to turn this car around and there'll be no Cape
- 52:05Speaker 1: Canaveral for anybody.
- 52:08Speaker 5: That's it.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Back to Winnipeg.
- 52:13Speaker 4: I love Nelson.
- 52:17Speaker 1: It's just perfect Nelson. Nothing else is said. It's just
- 52:21Speaker 1: a short five-second clip. It's a great sound effect.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
- 52:26Speaker 1: But the threat he gives the kids is exactly what
- 52:28Speaker 1: our parents used to give us. Yeah, right. If you
- 52:30Speaker 1: don't shut up, you're not getting this. And it's just
- 52:32Speaker 1: the look of, okay, I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, like
- 52:35Speaker 1: you're driving from Victoria to Queensland. You're at Byron Bay.
- 52:39Speaker 1: If you don't shut up, I'm turning this car around.
- 52:41Speaker 4: You believe him.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Yeah, 18 hours into a 22-hour trip.
- 52:45Speaker 4: He'll do it. He will do it.
- 52:48Speaker 1: We then get, as I mentioned before, Bart just embracing everything. So,
- 52:51Speaker 1: can we stop for ice cream? Yes. Hitchhiker? Yes. Bart,
- 52:54Speaker 1: can we stop for ice cream? Yes.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Throwback to something that happened like five seconds ago.
- 52:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:57Speaker 4: So good. But I love the other things. Can we
- 53:00Speaker 4: weigh that car at the weigh station?
- 53:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Why would you want to do that? Then we get
- 53:06Speaker 4: Lisa leaving Marge.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Yep. And Marge is home alone. We don't quite get
- 53:11Speaker 1: the Maggie moment here yet, though, do we?
- 53:12Speaker 4: No, that comes a bit later. She's just depressed. I
- 53:14Speaker 4: wouldn't say depressed. She's just disappointed she's going to be
- 53:17Speaker 4: by herself. Then they arrive at Branson, Missouri, which is
- 53:20Speaker 4: like Vegas if it was run by Ned Flanders. And
- 53:23Speaker 4: so unlike Nelson, but he wants to go to Andy Williams.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, did you say on the Andy Williams venue
- 53:28Speaker 1: there's a sign?
- 53:28Speaker 4: He's still got it or something?
- 53:29Speaker 1: He's still got it from Look magazine, which had gone
- 53:31Speaker 1: out of business some 20 years before this episode aired.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I did not know that. That's a nice touch. Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Apparently, someone at work was telling me. I didn't have
- 53:38Speaker 4: the time to look it up. Lurleen Lumpkin has her
- 53:39Speaker 4: own store.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Yeah. And like Pippin something or other. And there's Alabamania?
- 53:44Speaker 1: So it says Alabama, but it's Alabamania? Alabamamania? No, it's
- 53:48Speaker 1: just Alabamania.
- 53:49Speaker 4: Alabamania.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 53:50Speaker 3: I didn't think he was going to do Moon River,
- 53:59Speaker 3: but then bam, second encore.
- 54:13Speaker 1: It's like, you know, when I went to see Bon
- 54:15Speaker 1: Jovi a little while ago, and after the main show,
- 54:19Speaker 1: he hadn't done Living on a Prayer yet. I was like, jeez,
- 54:22Speaker 1: I wonder what's coming up next when he's walked off
- 54:24Speaker 1: the stage.
- 54:25Speaker 4: We went and saw Brian Adams, and he hadn't sung... Oh,
- 54:29Speaker 4: I was wondering if he's... Summer of 69? That's Summer
- 54:31Speaker 4: of 69, yes. He hadn't sung it yet, right? So
- 54:33Speaker 4: the show's over, and you think, all right, well, he's
- 54:35Speaker 4: going to do an encore. Lights come on.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Everyone's looking at each other going, he's actually not going
- 54:39Speaker 1: to do it. Yeah.
- 54:40Speaker 4: Then he walks out on stage and goes, ha ha,
- 54:41Speaker 4: I got you.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Ah, brilliant.
- 54:45Speaker 4: People started leaving in disgust. It was so great.
- 54:48Speaker 1: That's great. Was that at a venue? In Geelong, yeah.
- 54:51Speaker 1: Was that at Mountaineer State? He waited a good two,
- 54:53Speaker 1: three minutes of lights on. That's so funny.
- 54:55Speaker 4: It's not happening.
- 54:56Speaker 1: It's actually not happening.
- 54:57Speaker 4: The only reason I came.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Well done, Brian.
- 55:02Speaker 4: Man, it was great. I just sit there with Nicholas.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Nicholas is like, should we go? I'm like, he's going
- 55:05Speaker 4: to sing it. He's not this silly. Yeah. He knows
- 55:08Speaker 4: people have come here for that song. He's a professional.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Homer and Lisa are then playing Truth or Dare. Another
- 55:13Speaker 4: nice moment.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 55:15Speaker 4: The whole thing with Homer and Lisa is nice.
- 55:17Speaker 1: First question, who do you love more than getting turned
- 55:20Speaker 1: into Dare? Now, I like that Homer has the prank
- 55:23Speaker 1: turned back around him.
- 55:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 55:24Speaker 5: On him.
- 55:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so good.
- 55:25Speaker 1: That Mo just confirms the name and then goes nuts
- 55:27Speaker 1: at him for it.
- 55:30Speaker 4: But I like that that's the thing. First thing that
- 55:32Speaker 4: Lisa thinks to tell Homer to do as well.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Yeah. That's like her and Bart's thing. Yeah.
- 55:37Speaker 4: That's their naughtiest thing they do.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's invited her in on it. It's very cool. Contrast.
- 55:42Speaker 1: We also get Lisa's boyfriend. Langdon Algar. Or not boyfriend.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Crush.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Boy that he likes. Crush. Langdon Algar.
- 55:49Speaker 4: Boy that he likes.
- 55:50Speaker 1: A boy that she likes. It's a boy. Someone likes it.
- 55:53Speaker 4: But what I like most about it is Homer's going,
- 55:54Speaker 4: I won't tell anyone.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Yeah. He's very quiet and enjoys puzzles. I like that.
- 56:00Speaker 4: That's very Lisa.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Like, later we'll enjoy that.
- 56:03Speaker 4: But she almost gets sort of a bit of joy
- 56:05Speaker 4: out of telling it. It's like she had to just
- 56:07Speaker 4: tell somebody, you know?
- 56:09Speaker 1: Contrasted with Marge, who's watching a seminar on hypnotism.
- 56:12Speaker 5: Yes.
- 56:12Speaker 1: And conquering the real estate market. This is where you
- 56:15Speaker 1: get the.
- 56:16Speaker 4: The Maggie.
- 56:16Speaker 1: Poking Maggie. Like, again, yeah, you do feel a bit
- 56:32Speaker 1: for Marge that she's just gone a bit stir-crazy because
- 56:33Speaker 1: her whole life is doting on the family. And when
- 56:36Speaker 1: they're off and don't need her, that's pretty much all
- 56:39Speaker 1: that she has left. I feel like for a lot
- 56:42Speaker 1: of non-working mothers or even only part-time working mothers, like, yeah,
- 56:46Speaker 1: when your kids leave your house, that's... That's 25 years,
- 56:51Speaker 1: potentially up to 25 years of how you've identified yourself
- 56:54Speaker 1: is gone. Yeah.
- 56:55Speaker 4: The only thing is, this is in the middle of
- 56:57Speaker 4: the night. Normally, Bart and Lisa will be sleeping anyway.
- 57:01Speaker 4: So why does she have to wake me up?
- 57:02Speaker 1: No, but an empty house always feels different. I know that,
- 57:05Speaker 1: but still, they would normally be asleep anyway. Yeah, I know.
- 57:09Speaker 1: But she's had a whole day of them being away.
- 57:11Speaker 1: She'd be thinking about them. Lisa would be worrying about them.
- 57:14Speaker 4: Lisa would be worrying about them.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And I, no, I buy into it.
- 57:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 57:20Speaker 1: The boys then arrive at Knoxville, Tennessee to the Wadfer. Uh,
- 57:26Speaker 1: excuse me. Is this the World's Fair Visitor Center?
- 57:29Speaker 3: Used to be.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Back in 1982. You're 14 years too late.
- 57:35Speaker 2: But there's another World's Fair coming soon.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Right?
- 57:41Speaker 4: Before Friday? That's the thing, so... They could acknowledge that
- 57:45Speaker 4: this was going to air in 96, but they got
- 57:47Speaker 4: the age wrong on the ID.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Ah, well, little typo.
- 57:49Speaker 4: Little typo. It doesn't matter.
- 57:51Speaker 1: The Sunspear's all dilapidated. Or was the month, though?
- 57:54Speaker 4: February.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 57:56Speaker 4: I thought about it.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:58Speaker 4: The Sunspear's all dilapidated. What's in there? 16,000 boxes of
- 58:02Speaker 4: unsold wigs. Now, are you gentlemen going to buy some wigs,
- 58:05Speaker 4: or ain't you? And they buy some. Yeah.
- 58:07Speaker 1: They've got peer pressure into it. Yeah.
- 58:11Speaker 4: One of my other questions is going to be what's
- 58:13Speaker 4: the colour of Nelson's afro?
- 58:15Speaker 1: Purple.
- 58:16Speaker 4: Purple, that is correct. This is the moment where it
- 58:18Speaker 4: all falls apart. They realise they've got no money because
- 58:19Speaker 4: Martin bought the Al Gore doll. We've got no car,
- 58:21Speaker 4: we've got no money and we're stranded. We come back
- 58:24Speaker 4: and the boys are trying to think of a plan.
- 58:26Speaker 4: They try to hock Milhouse's glasses. We almost get a
- 58:29Speaker 4: lot of money for them. Yeah, they must have been
- 58:31Speaker 4: made out of solid gold or something. What I would
- 58:34Speaker 4: be doing is I'd be going to the next hock
- 58:35Speaker 4: store and getting rid of them.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and not break all of the old Coke bottles.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Yes, yep, yep, yep. What I like about the next
- 58:41Speaker 4: scene where they're trying to get on the train is
- 58:43Speaker 4: Nelson's determination to chase after it. They all give up
- 58:45Speaker 4: when it speeds off.
- 58:46Speaker 1: He keeps going. He keeps going, yeah.
- 58:47Speaker 4: He's like, I didn't get this thing.
- 58:50Speaker 1: It is very funny though of like a getting from
- 58:52Speaker 1: bad to worse.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Yes, it is. Lost all their shit now.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Lost all their luggage now too.
- 58:58Speaker 4: They call Lisa now.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Well, they call Marge first, but yeah. Again, of course
- 59:02Speaker 1: I'll accept. She's like, yeah, collect call from my son.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Of course. I don't care. I want to talk to him. Oh,
- 59:06Speaker 1: you want Lisa? Yes.
- 59:08Speaker 4: It's great animation here of, it's just Lisa's reaction. So
- 59:11Speaker 4: you know what Bart's saying?
- 59:12Speaker 1: Yeah, when she says- Stewardess?
- 59:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:14Speaker 4: And she pulls the phone away.
- 59:15Speaker 1: You pretend to be a stewardess. And the look on
- 59:16Speaker 1: her face. Yeah. Like, you know, Barsch is going, what
- 59:19Speaker 1: the fuck's wrong with you? So then we get the,
- 59:23Speaker 1: become a courier. Yes. Not a terrier, they're dogs.
- 59:26Speaker 5: Yes.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I like the, well, you don't look 25, but your
- 59:29Speaker 1: unlaminated out-of-state driver's license is proof enough for me. Good
- 59:32Speaker 1: for me, yes.
- 59:32Speaker 4: Delivers human eyes to Hong Kong. This is where Skinner
- 59:35Speaker 4: sees him.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Doesn't really go anywhere besides the last gag. Yeah.
- 59:39Speaker 4: In my head, for some reason, I thought Skinner did
- 59:41Speaker 4: more in this episode.
- 59:42Speaker 1: But he doesn't. No, he doesn't really.
- 59:43Speaker 4: He's just there.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Yeah, just eating his dumplings. Yes.
- 59:46Speaker 4: Why did he go all the way to Hong Kong
- 59:47Speaker 4: just to eat dumplings? He wanted authentic dumplings.
- 59:51Speaker 1: I'm sure he didn't go there just for the dumplings.
- 59:53Speaker 4: He wanted authentic human eyes.
- 59:54Speaker 1: He's there, and he ordered dumplings.
- 59:55Speaker 4: I don't want to know what those human eyes were for,
- 59:57Speaker 4: by the way.
- 59:59Speaker 1: It looks like a doctor taking them off him, so
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: let's assume... I mean, ironically, it's normally China. They wouldn't
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: be getting the eyes imported from America. They'd just be
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: taking them from there. political prisoners let's be careful I
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: want to get sued by someone.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: So then Bart calls Lisa and says can you please
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: help I can't get doing this I'm not going all
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: the way to Marlon Brando's island to deliver 500 Big
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Macs so she comes clean with Homer because that's the
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: only way she can get Bart out of this she
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: has to tell someone she has to get Homer to
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: help yep She makes him promise, though, that he won't
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: do anything about it. He won't tell Bart that she
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: told him.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: Bart rented a car with a phony driver's license and
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: drove Milhouse, Nelson, and Martin to a wig outlet in Knoxville,
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: and the car got crushed, and they're out of money,
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: and they can't get home, and Bart's working as a
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: courier and just came back from Hong Kong. Yes, that's
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: a real pickle. Would you excuse me for a moment? Oh,
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: my God!
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: I have thought this through. I will send Bart the
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: money to fly home. Then I will murder him.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: The look of red on Homer's face before he puts
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: his head in the mask.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: The music cue, the shadow.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: It's such an amazing scene.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: That is.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: It's really perfection in the way that's done.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: But then he gets on with it.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Yeah. He vents and then he gets on with the job.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: He knows he has to help Bart. Oh, why about
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: the money? And then I'll kill him. Yes.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: And then I will murder him. So he destroys his
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: T-437 and the guy just frantic on the phone. I
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: love his reaction. I forgot how funny it was.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Springfield, my computer shows your T-437 is fully operational.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Oh, God, no.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Oh, this can't be happening. You're operating that on T-437, Springfield? Oh,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: sweet mother of mercy, I mean....
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: He has it sent for Langdon Olga, which is a nice,
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: nice throwback.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Who Lisa doesn't like anymore.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Because he said that he'd forgotten already.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: But it proves that he did remember. He just didn't
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: tell anyone.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Well, Lisa had actually mentioned it only seconds earlier. She
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: says Langdon, like, you know.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: She says, don't use your real name because then Bart
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: will know that I told him. Prior to that. I
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: haven't told a soul about you and your boyfriend. She
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: says Langdon Olga. I don't like him anymore.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: That's true, yeah.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: It's still... It's a nice... Not even in joke. It's
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: just a nice shared secret between Homer and Lisa.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: One of a couple of secrets they will share in
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: this episode. Bart and the boys are there on a
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: courier all the way on some sort of plane. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Keep it down. They'll know you're in there.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Empty cargo hold.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Bart is there lying over dinner, telling lies over dinner,
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: I should say. And Marge believes him. So it goes
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: from angry face, angry face to music cue, very happy.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: She believes him.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Which is another nice moment of Homer. Like he can't,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: he doesn't want to ruin Marge's belief either. It's not
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: just about, I don't want to ruin Lisa's secret. It's also,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I don't want to, I just don't want to bring
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: it down for everyone. So I've got to swallow my rage.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I don't want the hassle. Yeah. Then we get the
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: three phone calls in bed.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: One of the less memorable that I've forgotten about it,
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: but funny endings to this episode.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Hello?
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Oh, hello, Principal Skinner. No, Bart has never been to
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Hong Kong.
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: Good night. Hello?
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Tennessee State Police? No, my son's car was not crushed
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: in Knoxville. I don't know where to begin telling you
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: what's wrong with that.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Hello?
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: No, Bart is not available tomorrow to deliver a human
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: kidney to Amsterdam.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Homer, are you laughing at me?
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: It's just a fun story, just fun overall.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: It is. Plus it has the nice touch of Homer
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: and Lisa as well. Yeah. It's got everything you want
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: in a Simpsons episode. It is. Apart from the fact
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: that some of the jokes, like a lot of the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: comedy that I loved came from the story and from character,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: some of the jokes that were just one-liners put in
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: there didn't hit quite as hard. That's probably the only
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: thing that stops it from being a perfect episode for me. Yeah.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: As far as plot goes, it's some of the best
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: story writing of any episode that they've ever done. And
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: managing to feel like you're spending enough time with all
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: of the characters, develop that relationship between Homer and Lisa
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: a little bit more, even Lisa from Bart to an extent.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: It's just, and the character examination of who Marge is,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: it's done really, really brilliantly.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: What did we learn, Palmer? What did you learn from
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: the episode, Mitch?
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I learned that the wig business was not as popular
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: as some might have thought it was going to be
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: back in 1982.
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: That is true. I've learned that if you want to
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: hear Andy Williams sing Moon River, wait for the encore.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: Before we start today's Mailbag Mitch, I, of course, need
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: to read out the names of our beautiful $ 5 patrons.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: Going to kick things off with Mr. Seth Weins. Also,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: we have Logan C. Barasa, Richard Haney, David David, Lauren C. Turner,
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Jordan Macy Smith, Sean P. Connor, David Hamish Aversmith, Emmett Lynch,
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Scott Wilkes, Thank you so much for your support, guys.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: And don't forget that next week, we're going to be
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: drawing out the winner of our two draws, one of
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: them for a Zap Brannigan Funko Pop vinyl and the
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: other for a 9-inch Devil Flanders vinyl figure. Also, I
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: should probably remind you, if you want to support the
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: show and in return get your name written out in
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: the show, get access into the draw, access into the
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: exclusive Facebook group, and access to a bunch of exclusive

- 1:05:36Speaker 4: and more, you just head to patreon.com slash fourfingerdiscount.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: DeVille! DeVille is here! Mailbag time. We're going to... How
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: long have we been recording for?
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: About an hour and ten.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Hour and ten. We will.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Let's do a couple of questions.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: A couple of questions, and then I'm going to get
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: out of here and have myself a red Thai curry.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: This comes in from Virgin, apparently. Hello. Richard? No, the
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: guy's name is Simon, but it's like in the mailbox,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: you know, sender.
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: Maybe it's connected to Virgin Wi-Fi?
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: The sender comes from Virgin.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Virgin Wi-Fi.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Well, either that or it's a confession to the world.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: Hello.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: What is your favorite appearance of Simpsons regular voice actor
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: in a film? To make it easier, you can have
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: pre- and post-Simpsons airing. So for his, Harry Shearer as
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Derek Smalls in This Is Spinal Tap and Hank Azaria
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: in Heat as Ellen Marciano.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: I was going to say Hank in Heat or Dan.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Great ass!
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: Or Dan in.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I don't know how Hank can be your favourite because
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: it's not anything that Hank does. It's what Elle does
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: around him that people like.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: In that movie. But if Hank's not in there, Elle
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: doesn't give us that.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: True.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: Dan in Space Jam. Barkley's killing us!
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Barkley's killing us. I would say that Hank in The Birdcage.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: He's hilarious in The Birdcage.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: Hank is also very good in Friends, which is in
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: a movie.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Yes, that's not a film. He's very funny in Along
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Came Polly. He's one of the only few funny things.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: That's got Jennifer Aniston in it too. Yeah, it's a
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: bad movie, but he is very good as a scuba
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: diving instructor that steals his wife. Comparing himself to it,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: like how he can't help it. He's like, It's like hippopotamus.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: He doesn't know how to be anything other than a hippo.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: You ask him why he's a hippopotamus, he does not
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: know why. He just is. Philip Seymour Hoffman's also good
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: in it, but that's beside the point. And, oh, Yali
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Smith is in Maximum Overdrive as well.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: Is she really?
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Yeah. With Stephen King as a director who was, by
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: his own admission, quote, coked out of his mind. Possibly
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: need to beep that as well.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: Harry Shearer in Wayne's World 2?
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I believe he's in Wayne's World 2? Yeah, more than likely.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Harry Shearer in The Right Stuff is very, very good.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Is it Joe Mantegna that's in Airheads or was it Harry?
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I think it's Joe, actually. Might be Joe.
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: Yeah. He's a regular.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he's regular enough. Phil Hartman in anything. But if
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I was going to be more specific, Phil Hartman's cameo
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: in So I Married an Axe Murderer.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: Nice little tease for our top 10 Phil Hartman appearances.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: It's not just Simpsons related. We're going to be doing
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: that for you patrons out there. Yeah, it's just celebrating
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: the best of Phil, basically.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: The best of Phil, basically, yeah.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: Which is going to be coming up on the Four
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: Finger Discount Patreon page. Now, Mitch, what final question have
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: you got for us this week? Okay.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Okay. So this comes from Laura Elliott, who's been listening
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: for the past six months, binging on the back episodes
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: from season one. Thanks, Laura. For her question, we often
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: discuss the dumbing down of Homer and how his antics
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: get goofier and more and more convenient. Was there a
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: specific episode, scene, or moment where you thought, eh, that's
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: too convenient, this is just stupid and no longer funny?
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: For her, it was the episode Screaming Yellow Honkers, where
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Marge gets the canyon arrow and develops road rage. Homer
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: gets picked up by a rhino and is carried through
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Springfield by his belt. I have no idea why, but
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: when I first saw that scene as a teen, it
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: just grated on me. And now being in my mid-30s,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: my distaste for the scene is still alive and well.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I didn't like when Homer got his head caught in
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: the drawbridge.
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: I thought it was a bit stupid.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: And there's one episode where he gets the back of
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: his head ripped off and he can see his brain pumping.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Oh, dear.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Something claws the back of his head. Yeah.
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: And he can see his brain.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: And I'm like... That's not a Treehouse of Horror joke,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: is it?
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: No.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: It's in a normal episode. I was like, oh, the
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Simpsons have jumped the shark a bit here. Yeah.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Oh, what would be a moment for me? Like, it
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: is a fine line. Like, Homer not knowing that pork,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: ham and bacon all come from the same animal is very,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: very funny.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: That's a Homer.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Yeah, like I really like that.
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: There's the gif, by the way, of Homer's brain. Yeah,
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: it's just silly.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: For me, it's hard for me to pinpoint an exact moment.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: It's more just the general mood where the point where
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Homer goes from not being able to, I tell you what,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Max Power walking into a cactus or something along those lines.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: Like, Which was almost a parody in itself of that style.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: To an extent.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: But yeah, when Homer goes from... There's a Homer here
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: in this episode who is smart enough to be able
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: to call another power plant and scam the guy to
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: send him the machine that he needs to get Bart home. Now,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: contrasted with the stupidity and recklessness to destroy that very
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: machine that's keeping the plant safe. So that, for me,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I like the fact that he can operate on one
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: level and function on one level, but then not on another.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: That as opposed to just like.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: No idea of consequence.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Painfully stupid Homer that can't even get a sentence out
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: is more of an annoyance for me. I'll try to
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: think of a more specific episode or example in the future,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: but it's really just been a general feel that it
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: lost its charm. It seemed to be that they were
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: enjoying too much the stupid aspect of Homer and forgetting
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to make it a rounded stupidity. It was just like
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: that he's a borderline simpleton. For me, it always struck
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: me as writers who were fans of the show growing
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: up and you get too many of them in the
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: same room that always laughed at the stupid Homer moments
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: and not enough of them that laughed at the creative
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Homer moments. So it's more about, well, our take on
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Homer is that he's really, really stupid.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: No filter.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: That's all they give him to do. No one had
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: to filter out the silliness. So it was more just
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: a general feeling around season 11, 12, thereabouts. Fair enough.
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: Alrighty, thanks for listening to our review of Bart on
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: the Road. Now, next week, Mitch, is 22 short films
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: about Springfield. Our patrons will be well aware that we
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: have already done our review of this and it's available
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: right now on the Patreon page. So, we won't be
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: recording anything new for next week.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Perhaps a new intro. We might just touch base quickly
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: for a little phone or interview.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: In case people don't listen to this one and are
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: a bit confused.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Yep. But, outside of that, that means a week off
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: for you, Dando, and I'm off to a golf trip
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: You're going to win?
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Feeling good.
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: Have you ever won the golf trip?
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: No.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: No? I finished dead last last year. Dead last? Oh my.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: My handicap had come in 10 shots from the year before.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: So it was a, I was in, I'd broken new waters.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: What are you paying?
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: $ 1. 90? Oh.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: If there was actual odds on you to win.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: If there was odds at me. So I would have,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Sean would probably be about five to one. Damien would
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: be at about six. You're just name dropping now so
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: you can just. They're both previous winners. Wardy would be
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: about eight. I'd have myself at 13, 14. So there's
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: only four of you. No, there's a bunch of others. Okay.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I'm not going to name everybody.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: You're a top four contender?
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yes. Okay.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: Thanks for listening, guys. Hope you enjoy next week's review,
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: which we've already done. Mitch, any final words for the listeners?
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Fucking ass.
