- 0:27What's going on, everybody?
- 0:28Welcome to the Clydesdale
- 0:30Media Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 0:33What is going on?
- 0:34So, first of all,
- 0:36I was interviewing Abby Domet today,
- 0:38and her mic was very soft.
- 0:39Okay.
- 0:40So, I turned my volume way up,
- 0:42and then that music came on,
- 0:44and I think I lost both eardrums.
- 0:49Oops.
- 0:50Yeah, that was a bit abrupt.
- 0:51Okay.
- 0:56I got some TV in the background.
- 0:59Aaron, please turn that off or down.
- 1:06Let them know.
- 1:06Let them know.
- 1:08All right.
- 1:10What do we got to first let them know?
- 1:11Carolyn, you're the best at this.
- 1:15You got to like, you got to subscribe,
- 1:16you got to hit that notifier.
- 1:20And yeah, follow us.
- 1:21Yes, we know when everything's going on.
- 1:24And you can also join the
- 1:25channel for as low as $2.99 a month.
- 1:28Helps us get to all the
- 1:29events that we're hoping to
- 1:30get to in the next few
- 1:31months and helps support the show.
- 1:34We really appreciate that if
- 1:35you can do that.
- 1:36Again,
- 1:36I've set it at the lowest amount
- 1:38possible at $2.99 a month.
- 1:39That's $2.99 to help us out.
- 1:45So with that,
- 1:46thank you for joining us tonight.
- 1:48And we will get into tonight's agenda.
- 1:53Well, first of all,
- 1:54I have a question to ask.
- 1:55Carolyn.
- 1:56Yes.
- 1:57How is your nephew dealing
- 1:58with one of the greatest
- 2:00comebacks in hockey history?
- 2:03He's so excited.
- 2:04So they went to game the
- 2:07last two games in Edmonton.
- 2:10My sister and her husband
- 2:11went and then Easton as well,
- 2:13which is the nephew.
- 2:15They're so excited.
- 2:16They're so pumped.
- 2:17Huge Edmonton fans.
- 2:19I'm rooting for them, too,
- 2:20in these playoffs.
- 2:21I would love to see that
- 2:22reverse sweep come back.
- 2:24It's been super exciting to watch.
- 2:26And for those of you who
- 2:27don't follow hockey,
- 2:28the Florida Panthers had a 3-0 lead,
- 2:31only needed to win one game
- 2:32to clinch the Stanley Cup,
- 2:34and Edmonton has won three in a row.
- 2:36It is now tied.
- 2:38With one game left, winner takes all.
- 2:41For the hardest trophy to
- 2:43win in all of sports,
- 2:45and the most beautiful trophy as well,
- 2:47may I add.
- 2:49And my Pittsburgh Penguins
- 2:50have won it three times.
- 2:53I mean,
- 2:53do you want to go with my Montreal
- 2:55Canadians?
- 2:5524?
- 2:56Actually,
- 2:57my Penguins have won it more than that,
- 2:59right?
- 2:59Yeah, for sure.
- 3:00Five times.
- 3:01Five times.
- 3:01Yeah,
- 3:01because Sydney has... Two
- 3:03back-to-backs and then the
- 3:05one in the middle.
- 3:08Yeah, I forgot the one back-to-back.
- 3:10Okay.
- 3:11When you win so much, you know, it's hard.
- 3:16I...
- 3:17I have been watching this show.
- 3:19I've got to tell you about
- 3:20King of Collectibles.
- 3:21If you've never watched it on Netflix,
- 3:25it is golden auction house
- 3:29and they show what it is to
- 3:30like get valuable items and
- 3:32put them up for auction.
- 3:33And they're really big in the sports world,
- 3:35like trying to get the most
- 3:37rare sports items there are
- 3:39and sell them.
- 3:40And it has been so freaking fun to watch.
- 3:44And they're in season two.
- 3:46And I've been binge watching.
- 3:48And Julie was watching it
- 3:49with me till someone
- 3:51brought in supposedly the
- 3:53mummified hand of Cleopatra
- 3:56to put up for auction.
- 3:58And Julie was like, I'm out.
- 4:03Where do you even get that?
- 4:05So apparently there was a
- 4:07tidal wave at one point in
- 4:09Europe that where her grave site was,
- 4:14apparently it got disrupted
- 4:16by this tidal wave and
- 4:18things went ashore.
- 4:19And then it has been passed
- 4:22down and there's paperwork
- 4:23with it from like the 1600s forward.
- 4:27Wow.
- 4:27Changing hands and all that.
- 4:29But now to like authenticate it,
- 4:31they have to like do DNA testing on it.
- 4:34And compare it to different
- 4:35mummies from her lineage of
- 4:38the same time.
- 4:39And that's what's fascinating to me.
- 4:41Not necessarily the hand,
- 4:43but all the kind of cool
- 4:44science behind it.
- 4:45Just to authenticate that it's hers.
- 4:51That's crazy.
- 4:52Yeah.
- 4:54um so yeah I just wanted to
- 4:56put that out there and that
- 4:58you know just this little
- 4:59like talk at the beginning
- 5:00we do is allows more people
- 5:02into the audience before we
- 5:03get really rolling but
- 5:05With that,
- 5:07we're going to get into the first thing,
- 5:08which is the final response
- 5:10to the riffs from last week.
- 5:12It has been an ongoing week
- 5:14of stuff from the riffs.
- 5:17Jamie's riff has been mostly
- 5:19positive in agreement,
- 5:21and that is really cool.
- 5:24We should get back to public
- 5:26posting of riffs.
- 5:28videos.
- 5:29My rift, on the other hand,
- 5:31has resulted in an apology kind of,
- 5:34sort of,
- 5:35and then it resulted in John
- 5:37Young and I actually
- 5:39exchanging phone numbers,
- 5:41having a conversation on Thursday,
- 5:43talking it all out,
- 5:44and him and I are cool with
- 5:45the whole thing.
- 5:47like he gets it you're in
- 5:49this business you say goofy
- 5:50things um occasionally
- 5:51you're wrong and you get
- 5:53called out on it and that's
- 5:54what it is right um the
- 5:57only thing I want to say
- 5:58about is a lot of people
- 5:59not involved in the actual
- 6:01beef or whatever we want to
- 6:04truly call it that was the
- 6:05clickbait version of it
- 6:08are like giving their two cents.
- 6:11I was not bragging about my
- 6:13ability to pick people
- 6:15because I am not good at it.
- 6:19Lex will tell you, I am not good at it.
- 6:22I was just defending myself
- 6:25when someone said that my
- 6:26picks were silly.
- 6:29So I miss picks all the time.
- 6:35But when I do make good picks...
- 6:37I like to tout myself a little bit.
- 6:39Let it be known.
- 6:41And then... And the other thing is,
- 6:43Heat One app, just for you all that know,
- 6:46I try to play it.
- 6:47I have never completed a
- 6:48weekend with all of my picks.
- 6:51Because if I'm not...
- 6:53It's not that I forget.
- 6:54I'm at an event, and they won't take.
- 6:57I get to where I don't have
- 6:58good reception.
- 7:00At the games last year,
- 7:01I couldn't make picks.
- 7:03I was in the Coliseum.
- 7:04They wouldn't go through.
- 7:06This year, we were in the parking garage.
- 7:08I was picking event four.
- 7:09It didn't take...
- 7:12it it's just been weird stuff like that.
- 7:15Or like when they add the prop bets now,
- 7:18I don't get the notifier
- 7:19cause I'm working on something.
- 7:21And then by the time I see it,
- 7:23the events already happened.
- 7:25So I've never been able to
- 7:26complete a weekend of the heat one app,
- 7:29but I still have fun trying.
- 7:31And, or my,
- 7:33the other result is I make all
- 7:34the picks on Thursday and
- 7:37then I don't get to make
- 7:38any changes based on what I
- 7:39see over the weekend.
- 7:41Yeah.
- 7:43That's usually what happens to me.
- 7:46Someone gets injured and I
- 7:49don't have the time or
- 7:50service to get in there and
- 7:51get things changed and I
- 7:52just get stuck with that
- 7:54person that I put in or whatever.
- 7:58And Patrick Clark says,
- 8:01we are more often than not,
- 8:03we are more wrong than right.
- 8:05Correct.
- 8:06Yeah.
- 8:07So when you get that right call,
- 8:09you're like shouting it
- 8:11from the mountaintop
- 8:11because you finally got one.
- 8:13But, yeah.
- 8:16But Hattie was my dark horse
- 8:17pick in the West.
- 8:18Jack Rosamond was my dark
- 8:19horse pick in the East.
- 8:20I did pretty good this year
- 8:21on those kinds of picks.
- 8:23But I did not get event four
- 8:25picked for heat one.
- 8:26I didn't get some of the prop bets.
- 8:29And that happens a lot, so...
- 8:32But John and I have talked.
- 8:34Everything's cool.
- 8:35Him and I are cool.
- 8:36And he said it's okay to have a rivalry.
- 8:40It's okay to have a friendly rivalry.
- 8:43It makes things interesting.
- 8:44And that's actually going to
- 8:45be a topic later in the show.
- 8:48And that's what inspired
- 8:49that to kind of talk about.
- 8:52But we're bringing up a new segment,
- 8:54which is our listener
- 8:55question of the week,
- 8:57which actually is going to
- 8:58roll into something else
- 8:59that a listener is talking
- 9:00about in the chat now and
- 9:02why I kind of ignored it.
- 9:04So the question, the original question was,
- 9:08did you like the Dave
- 9:09Castro Week in Review more
- 9:11before he came back?
- 9:13And I'm assuming he came
- 9:15back to the game side of CrossFit.
- 9:18Or did you like it more
- 9:19before he was there?
- 9:22And so I'm going to open
- 9:23that question to you two first.
- 9:27Before he was where?
- 9:28Before he was on the game
- 9:29side of CrossFit.
- 9:31So he got fired.
- 9:32He was brought back and then
- 9:33put on the affiliate side.
- 9:35And that's when he started?
- 9:36And that's when he started.
- 9:37And it was like he would
- 9:40talk about his agenda going
- 9:42to this affiliate, to that affiliate,
- 9:44having a meeting with a
- 9:47bunch of affiliate owners,
- 9:48things like that.
- 9:50And then when he moved over
- 9:51to the game side,
- 9:51it took a turn into more the sport.
- 9:56Yeah, I feel like I did enjoy it.
- 10:00Maybe it's because it was new and a new,
- 10:02cool,
- 10:03fun thing when he first started them.
- 10:08Um,
- 10:08but maybe it was also because it was
- 10:10more affiliate driven and I
- 10:11was interested in hearing
- 10:12some of that and where this,
- 10:14the company was going.
- 10:16Um,
- 10:17but it is nice to get some of the maybe
- 10:21hints sports, you know,
- 10:23his mind frame on that stuff too.
- 10:25But I do personally,
- 10:26I think I enjoyed it more before.
- 10:29I mean,
- 10:30I'm in the camp of any news is good news.
- 10:33I feel like we don't get
- 10:34enough news in general,
- 10:35whether it's the affiliate side,
- 10:37the sports side.
- 10:39I still don't know whether,
- 10:40like for the sports side,
- 10:41whether it should come from
- 10:41him and YouTube.
- 10:43I think there's a more
- 10:44professional way to get
- 10:45some of the information out.
- 10:47But in general,
- 10:49I think any time that he
- 10:51can get on the mic and just
- 10:53speak in general with what's going on,
- 10:55I think that's a good thing.
- 10:57I would like to see it more as like a –
- 10:59what did they have before
- 11:00during COVID where some of
- 11:02the media outlets, I mean,
- 11:03the ones that were getting
- 11:04invited to it could
- 11:05actually ask questions and
- 11:07maybe have more of like a
- 11:08dialogue response,
- 11:09like where he's just
- 11:10answering certain questions from the chat,
- 11:11which is also good because
- 11:12now you're involving the
- 11:14community that might not
- 11:15have that access with the questions.
- 11:16Yeah.
- 11:18I mean, I think,
- 11:19I think that's a good segment.
- 11:20I always watch them every week.
- 11:22This week's was interesting.
- 11:25So I don't,
- 11:28So here's my thought.
- 11:30And Patrick Clark's kind of
- 11:32went down that road already,
- 11:33and I'm just going to dive
- 11:34down it as well.
- 11:36One, it's the only news source we have,
- 11:38which I think is the crime in this.
- 11:41If he wants to have his own
- 11:44release of information once a week,
- 11:46that's all cool to do that.
- 11:49But for it to be the only one,
- 11:51I think is wrong.
- 11:53And in a bad play by CrossFit overall.
- 11:59At the very least,
- 12:01there should be press
- 12:03releases to the media that
- 12:06have applied and been to
- 12:08the games and the
- 12:09semifinals and all that
- 12:10stuff when news is released.
- 12:13All the stuff that just came
- 12:15out about the games, about Fender Village,
- 12:17CrossFit Boulevard,
- 12:18all that stuff should have
- 12:19been in a press release with documents.
- 12:23But it's never released.
- 12:25It's one of the new,
- 12:26one of the media companies
- 12:28gets a hold of it.
- 12:28Like barbell spin publishes it.
- 12:31Now that's the media release
- 12:33for everybody.
- 12:34And CrossFit never gives out
- 12:36the official release.
- 12:38And you have to think about
- 12:39the language barrier too.
- 12:40Like how many people in the
- 12:42international space can
- 12:43even understand like fully
- 12:45English and what's going on,
- 12:46like on YouTube,
- 12:46like they're probably not
- 12:47following like Dave Castro's,
- 12:50YouTube channel, like they would normally,
- 12:52if it's an article,
- 12:53they can translate it and whatnot.
- 12:54I mean, now you can use AI, but it just,
- 12:57it's very,
- 12:59it's for like North America and
- 13:01Europe and Australia,
- 13:02like the communities that
- 13:03maybe understand more
- 13:06English and just what's going on there.
- 13:08In some of the hotbeds, like Brazil,
- 13:11there's a guy who does the
- 13:13media for Brazil who can't
- 13:14speak English and then
- 13:16probably translate it to his audience.
- 13:19Then there's a podcast
- 13:20called Dummies at the Box,
- 13:21which is Italian,
- 13:22and they probably do the
- 13:23same thing for Italy.
- 13:26There's a lot of people
- 13:27around the world that are bilingual,
- 13:29but it's a shame that you
- 13:31have to be bilingual to
- 13:33then be the media person
- 13:34for that and spokesperson
- 13:36for that country.
- 13:38It just seems unprofessional
- 13:39to do it on YouTube,
- 13:40on his personal channel.
- 13:42It's not even on the
- 13:43official CrossFit Games site.
- 13:44I think that's the one.
- 13:46It's growing his own
- 13:47personal brand versus CrossFit,
- 13:52which has a million
- 13:54followers or I don't know
- 13:55how many they have on YouTube.
- 13:56Pretty close to a million if
- 13:57you use the CrossFit Games one.
- 14:00That reaches already more
- 14:01people on YouTube versus
- 14:02his personal one.
- 14:03So if you just took that same interview,
- 14:07switch it there
- 14:09significantly better.
- 14:11Well, and,
- 14:12and in maybe getting in trouble
- 14:14with this comment
- 14:17Is attacking Hiller
- 14:19professional news release
- 14:21information the reason why
- 14:24Hiller didn't get a media
- 14:25pass to the games and
- 14:27taking 10 minutes out of
- 14:28your week in review to have
- 14:31a personal beef between the two of you?
- 14:34That's not professional news
- 14:36to be released either.
- 14:37So it's like this hodgepodge
- 14:40of stuff that really makes no sense.
- 14:44That's where I think he can
- 14:45release it on his own
- 14:46personal channel is
- 14:48answering questions that
- 14:49people from the community have.
- 14:50But the moment it's official
- 14:51information about the season,
- 14:53about the affiliates,
- 14:54that should be on the
- 14:55CrossFit Games Instagram or
- 14:58the CrossFit website, YouTube,
- 15:04all of the platforms from
- 15:06CrossFit and CrossFit Games.
- 15:08That's where it gets pumped out to.
- 15:09If it's just answering
- 15:10Hiller stuff and questions
- 15:13in the community,
- 15:13that can be his own
- 15:14personal conversation with the community.
- 15:19And I think that got lost
- 15:20along the way where now
- 15:22it's like releasing clues
- 15:23on his Instagram where you
- 15:24have to follow Dave to get
- 15:27some of that information.
- 15:30so so then this rolls into
- 15:32today where dave releases a
- 15:35new series that he's doing
- 15:37where he's going to
- 15:38interview all 80 crossfit
- 15:40games athletes for five to
- 15:42ten minutes each one to get
- 15:44to know them better my
- 15:47first reaction was what I
- 15:52saw brooke there and I was like
- 15:54cringe that was my first
- 15:57reaction I was like what
- 15:58now it's confused right it
- 16:00wasn't a week in review
- 16:01it's this new series he's
- 16:03doing but it's released on
- 16:05the same channel right
- 16:07And it's kind of like you're
- 16:09asking them what events they want,
- 16:10what are their strengths and weaknesses.
- 16:12As an athlete, talking to the programmer,
- 16:14a co-programmer of the CrossFit Games,
- 16:17I feel like that's kind of awkward too.
- 16:19You're not trying to expose
- 16:20your weaknesses or what you want,
- 16:22and he's getting ideas in
- 16:24his head of different athletes.
- 16:25I don't know.
- 16:26It just seems – I mean,
- 16:28it's entertaining for
- 16:29people who are going to want to see.
- 16:31I don't know if he'll get to all 80.
- 16:33Hopefully he does, so it's a fair –
- 16:36thing but it's just I don't
- 16:38know I just I don't know I
- 16:41feel like there's no way
- 16:42he's getting all 80 done if
- 16:44he does 10 a week for for
- 16:48the next eight weeks is
- 16:50that he doesn't even have
- 16:51that long he has he has
- 16:53four weeks so he's got to
- 16:55do 20 a week so he's got to
- 16:58do three a day
- 17:00And just organizing that
- 17:01with his own time and with
- 17:03the athletes' time is hard enough.
- 17:05Yeah.
- 17:06He's not getting three of
- 17:07those done a day.
- 17:07Those are not getting done.
- 17:10So my first question,
- 17:12I have two big things I
- 17:13want to talk about here.
- 17:14One,
- 17:14is it a conflict of interest for the
- 17:16programmer of the games to
- 17:18interview what his intention is all 80,
- 17:23but probably won't be all 80?
- 17:25How much of a conflict of
- 17:26interest is it to have
- 17:28those conversations with the athletes?
- 17:30I think it's a major.
- 17:31I don't like it.
- 17:33Because it puts ideas in his head,
- 17:36whether it's this year or
- 17:37the following years.
- 17:38It's putting, I don't know.
- 17:40And more importantly,
- 17:40it puts doubt in the heads
- 17:42of those fans of the sport
- 17:45or media covering the sport
- 17:48or the other athletes, right?
- 17:51And the more doubt that we have,
- 17:55the less you believe in a
- 17:57fair product at the end.
- 17:59And it's not a fair product to begin with.
- 18:01Like I, I've, I've had problems with,
- 18:04you know,
- 18:05people testing the workouts every year,
- 18:06people on the demo team every year.
- 18:08And it's like, there's leaks that come out,
- 18:10whether it's from the, that,
- 18:11or you have testers that
- 18:13are part of training camps
- 18:14are best friends with athletes.
- 18:15Like it's just not a professional space.
- 18:18Like you can't have people
- 18:19that are testing workouts or whatever,
- 18:21regardless of the NDA,
- 18:23like their best friends or
- 18:24training partners of athletes are
- 18:27it's just, you have that going on.
- 18:28You have interviewing the athletes.
- 18:30Like they're so like,
- 18:31it's just such a close
- 18:33community that I think it's
- 18:34really hard to set.
- 18:36Like, I don't know.
- 18:39And Patrick Clark makes a great point.
- 18:40Duan Young and Shung Young
- 18:42Choi do not speak English.
- 18:44So how,
- 18:45and Dave most likely does not speak
- 18:47Korean.
- 18:48So how do you have those conversations?
- 18:52yeah,
- 18:53I don't think that those ones are
- 18:54happening.
- 18:54Cause I don't think you're
- 18:55bringing on a translator
- 18:56for a five minute like that.
- 18:58That'll just be,
- 19:00wouldn't even be fun to watch.
- 19:03Um, yeah.
- 19:07So,
- 19:08so then my other point is there are
- 19:13people already doing this.
- 19:17There's us, there's be friendly fitness.
- 19:20Um,
- 19:21There are other people
- 19:22already down the road of
- 19:23interviewing these athletes.
- 19:25Why don't they just share
- 19:28the interview that's already been done?
- 19:31Share it on the CrossFit
- 19:34Games website or our
- 19:36YouTube channel and share
- 19:37those interviews.
- 19:39I mean,
- 19:39Brian and Patrick have almost done
- 19:41all of Europe already.
- 19:41I know.
- 19:43You know,
- 19:43we've been down the road with
- 19:45like five or six athletes already.
- 19:48Let those just be what they
- 19:50are and share them instead
- 19:52of redoing everything and
- 19:54creating this big conflict of interest.
- 19:58It's weird to me.
- 19:59When did Dave become
- 20:01interested in the – I know
- 20:04he's friends with some of the athletes,
- 20:05friendly with some of the athletes,
- 20:07but he's always tried to
- 20:09make it pretty clear that –
- 20:11he doesn't think about specific athletes.
- 20:13He's not like,
- 20:13that's not what he's invested in.
- 20:14So like,
- 20:16for what reason is he even wanting
- 20:17to talk to these people?
- 20:19And ask those specific questions.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:21Right.
- 20:21Cause it just puts an idea
- 20:23in our heads that like
- 20:24something gets programmed.
- 20:25You're like, Oh, he must've like,
- 20:27like who knows?
- 20:28It's just, it's just awkward.
- 20:29It's not awkward.
- 20:30I don't know what the right word is.
- 20:31It's just positive interest.
- 20:33Like it's just.
- 20:34Sus.
- 20:35It's sus.
- 20:36It is so sus.
- 20:39That's what my daughter
- 20:40would say completely.
- 20:41That is sus.
- 20:44And so it just baffles me.
- 20:49So now we're to this point
- 20:50where CrossFit media or
- 20:53CrossFit as a whole would rather say, hey,
- 20:56I know other people are doing it, but hey,
- 20:57let's do it ourselves.
- 20:59And the only person we have
- 21:00to do it is the guy running
- 21:02the whole show.
- 21:06I know they have a small team.
- 21:09but you can't find anybody
- 21:10else to do a five,
- 21:1310 minute interview with these people.
- 21:15I mean,
- 21:15I feel like this is his own idea
- 21:18and own thing that he wanted to do.
- 21:19I don't even think he talked
- 21:20to the media department.
- 21:24Cause if you did,
- 21:25they would have been like, cool.
- 21:26Yes.
- 21:27Let's get you logged into
- 21:28the CrossFit YouTube
- 21:29channel and upload those.
- 21:31Like this is totally rogue on his part.
- 21:34Yeah.
- 21:36You got to think so.
- 21:38I don't know.
- 21:39It just,
- 21:40it baffles my mind that they would
- 21:41even entertain this.
- 21:48I just,
- 21:49it makes me worry that we're even
- 21:50going to, where we're even going at all.
- 21:58I didn't want to do a riff
- 21:59tonight and I'm trying not
- 22:00to like go all in on this,
- 22:02but it's really tough.
- 22:05To be fair, I liked the interview,
- 22:07but you're like, why is this happening?
- 22:11Brooke came off great.
- 22:15Sure, but it showed the fallacy of it all,
- 22:17too, where, hey,
- 22:18what don't you want to see?
- 22:19Well, I'm not going to tell you.
- 22:22And just the fact that
- 22:23that's the athlete he picks first.
- 22:24We already know that's his
- 22:25favorite athlete.
- 22:26So it just is already like, okay,
- 22:28we get it, Dave.
- 22:31Yeah.
- 22:31I don't know.
- 22:32If you start with a random athlete,
- 22:34it looks less sus.
- 22:36That's true.
- 22:37Like you start with already your favorite,
- 22:40and maybe that's what's
- 22:41going to draw the attention
- 22:42and people to look at all
- 22:44of the next interviews.
- 22:45But we'll see.
- 22:48I mean, like you said, I was –
- 22:50entertain.
- 22:51I thought it was like,
- 22:51I still listened to the interview.
- 22:52I was curious of what kind
- 22:54of questions he was going to ask,
- 22:55what direction it was going to go.
- 23:00Again, it's media and more media is better,
- 23:02but I just think it's not
- 23:05from the right source at
- 23:08this time of the year and
- 23:10whether he's using that information,
- 23:11like I said,
- 23:12this year or next year in future years,
- 23:14it's still popping ideas.
- 23:16In his mind,
- 23:17he's curious on what the
- 23:18athletes are thinking about
- 23:19the venues and what's a possibility.
- 23:21We'll see.
- 23:25Did you feel like he gave a
- 23:26good answer on why he
- 23:27wanted to go to Fort Worth?
- 23:30No.
- 23:31Yeah, I didn't love it.
- 23:34So Linda Jerry says,
- 23:36playing devil's advocate,
- 23:37Dave wanted his channel to
- 23:38be just him doing his stuff.
- 23:40So he most probably didn't
- 23:41think it with a CrossFit HQ hat on.
- 23:44So I work for the state of Ohio, right?
- 23:48There are things that I am
- 23:49not allowed to do because I
- 23:51work for the state of Ohio
- 23:53because of my job.
- 23:54Because there is a definite
- 23:56conflict of interest in...
- 23:58And it would...
- 24:03it would taint the
- 24:07authenticity and the
- 24:08fairness and all that stuff
- 24:11for whatever we are doing, right?
- 24:14If we're putting a bid out
- 24:15for someone to come in and
- 24:17work on our systems that I work on,
- 24:19and I say, oh,
- 24:20my brother-in-law owns this company, like,
- 24:23I have to recuse myself from all of that,
- 24:27right?
- 24:27Because it is a conflict of interest.
- 24:29When you are programming the games...
- 24:33when you're programming the
- 24:34games and you're running
- 24:35the games and determining
- 24:37like a lot of the things
- 24:38that go around it and you
- 24:40are now interviewing these athletes,
- 24:43I think it's a conflict of interest.
- 24:45You would never see this
- 24:46happen with any other sport.
- 24:54This is the best comment I've seen so far.
- 24:57John Young says,
- 24:58I think Sydney should have
- 24:59done the interview to see
- 25:00if Dave could tell the difference.
- 25:10Will Branstetter.
- 25:11She might be testing the workouts, right?
- 25:14She might be signing an NDA.
- 25:17I love Dave doing the interviews.
- 25:18It's not like Dave isn't
- 25:19allowed to talk to any of
- 25:20the athletes when he goes
- 25:21to semis or games.
- 25:22No conflict at all.
- 25:26Agree to disagree, Will.
- 25:29The questions he was asking
- 25:31were things that could
- 25:34influence how you do things at the games.
- 25:37And what I don't understand
- 25:39is the about face.
- 25:40Like, just a week ago...
- 25:43I think, Will,
- 25:43you were in the room with
- 25:44him when he was asked about athletes.
- 25:47He goes,
- 25:47I don't really care about the athletes.
- 25:49I don't care about the outcomes.
- 25:51I just think of it as a playing field.
- 25:53Now, all of a sudden,
- 25:54we have this about facing a
- 25:55180 direction going in another way.
- 25:59That's baffling.
- 26:00That's probably the most
- 26:01baffling part to me.
- 26:04We don't know if it was in Sydney.
- 26:06We don't know.
- 26:07True.
- 26:07True.
- 26:14I mean, I'll listen to all of them.
- 26:16I'll watch all of them for sure.
- 26:17It's going to be
- 26:18entertaining to hear how
- 26:20he'll ask the questions.
- 26:22And he might go a different
- 26:23direction with other athletes.
- 26:25It's just his new creative way of,
- 26:29I don't know,
- 26:30learning about the athletes.
- 26:31Because a lot of times we
- 26:33get to the games and he
- 26:35doesn't know much about any
- 26:36of the other athletes.
- 26:37So maybe this is his way of being like, oh,
- 26:41let me try to actually get
- 26:42to know the athletes before.
- 26:44But, well, maybe it's a good idea,
- 26:47maybe not.
- 26:48Yeah.
- 26:49We'll see how it plays out.
- 26:52Yeah.
- 26:53So this week,
- 26:55the Barbell Spin broke the
- 26:56news that they actually got
- 26:58a hold of the vendor deck,
- 27:00which actually released a
- 27:01lot of the information of
- 27:02things that are going on
- 27:03around the CrossFit Games this year.
- 27:07The first big announcement
- 27:08was something we've been
- 27:10talking about for the last
- 27:11couple weeks is hoping that
- 27:12there was going to be a
- 27:13Friday Night Lights.
- 27:16Um,
- 27:17I think Tristan brought it up to me
- 27:18first at semifinals and then,
- 27:22then it stuck in my brain
- 27:23that that has to happen.
- 27:25Um, I think it came out this week that, uh,
- 27:27Joe from morning chalk up
- 27:29mentioned this like six months ago.
- 27:31Um, so I think people have been,
- 27:32if you're going to be in Texas, that's,
- 27:35that is an iconic thing
- 27:36that happens in Texas.
- 27:38Why not embrace it?
- 27:40Um,
- 27:41we talked to the last couple
- 27:42of weeks that there's a
- 27:42football field right beside the venue.
- 27:45And sure enough,
- 27:46that's where they're going.
- 27:48So that's really awesome
- 27:49that that's been confirmed
- 27:51by the barbell spin.
- 27:53What are your thoughts about
- 27:53a Friday night lights in
- 27:55Texas and knowing that you're,
- 27:57there's going to be some
- 27:57outdoor events on a
- 27:59football field with a track.
- 28:03It's just like, it's like at 8 PM.
- 28:05It's like one,
- 28:05one event like is from what I can gather.
- 28:08Yeah.
- 28:10It's going to be awesome.
- 28:11I love it.
- 28:13And it's open to the public.
- 28:15I think that's great.
- 28:16I think that's awesome that people that,
- 28:19you know,
- 28:20normally don't have those
- 28:20Coliseum tickets or whatever the,
- 28:22what's it called,
- 28:23Dickies Arena tickets can
- 28:25come and see this.
- 28:25Just like the North Park
- 28:26when everyone that had tickets could,
- 28:28you know,
- 28:29like a regular ticket could go and see.
- 28:32Love that.
- 28:33Because you're now allowing
- 28:35more people to see certain events.
- 28:36Because with everything indoors,
- 28:39you're stuck to only the
- 28:40people that have the tickets.
- 28:41So unless you have one or
- 28:43two events outdoor,
- 28:44which before we could see
- 28:46so many more events at the North Park.
- 28:47So having that at the football stadium,
- 28:51you know, that's going to be important.
- 28:53And whether they use it more than once,
- 28:55I don't know.
- 28:55But I love it because those
- 28:58tickets are so expensive
- 29:00normally to see the action inside.
- 29:03So more people, more eyes, the better.
- 29:07And it's a good time of the night, right?
- 29:08It's should be cool, like cooler.
- 29:12So John Young says the event is insane.
- 29:16Do they know what the event is?
- 29:21I'm not prying.
- 29:25It is what it is, but that's crazy.
- 29:32andrew stent says people
- 29:33with coliseum tickets are
- 29:34complaining about it they
- 29:36want reserve seating for
- 29:37themselves listen I get it
- 29:39in the years that they were
- 29:41outside for most of the day
- 29:43and your reserve tickets
- 29:44didn't get you squat this
- 29:46is one event maybe maybe
- 29:48there's going to be a
- 29:48second event outside most
- 29:51of this most of this games
- 29:53is going to be completely
- 29:55inside with your reserve seats right
- 30:00So you get to see nine or 10
- 30:02of the 12 events or if there's 15,
- 30:04even more.
- 30:07I think their reason for
- 30:08complaining is minute
- 30:10compared to years past.
- 30:15Yeah, I love it.
- 30:22Um,
- 30:23the feels like at 9 30 PM on the same
- 30:25date last year in Fort
- 30:26Worth was the field.
- 30:28I'm guessing.
- 30:29No, the field.
- 30:30I gotcha was 117 degrees.
- 30:34So I was just talking to
- 30:34Abby Domet today and she
- 30:36was talking about how the
- 30:37much different this year
- 30:39has been to last year.
- 30:40They were in a major heat wave last year.
- 30:43So hopefully it's been much
- 30:45cooler this year for them in Texas.
- 30:47I think the United States
- 30:49has flipped upside down
- 30:50because us in the upper
- 30:51Midwest are getting hammered with heat,
- 30:54and they're not so much in
- 30:55Texas right now.
- 30:56Hopefully that holds
- 30:57throughout the year this year.
- 31:04I mean, it's one event that's late.
- 31:06Like they're doing whatever they can to,
- 31:09you know,
- 31:09they can't control what weather
- 31:10is going to be that night or whatnot.
- 31:12It could be great.
- 31:13It could be hot.
- 31:15You know,
- 31:15I feel like by putting it in the evening,
- 31:17they're doing everything
- 31:18they can to at least
- 31:20control what they could.
- 31:24They played football in
- 31:24Texas with pads and everything on.
- 31:27You just take the
- 31:28precautions you need to take.
- 31:32I think it's great.
- 31:33I love it.
- 31:33I'm excited for it.
- 31:36All right.
- 31:37So then in addition to that,
- 31:39vendor village is going to be like,
- 31:41it looks like a block away ish, um,
- 31:44at the will Rogers park.
- 31:49And in the,
- 31:50in the trip from the Dickies
- 31:52arena to that,
- 31:54they're having CrossFit Boulevard.
- 31:57There will be active.
- 31:58There'll be tons of activations, um,
- 32:01Things like that.
- 32:02And then at the end,
- 32:03you'll get to Vendor Village,
- 32:05which includes a beer garden,
- 32:07a big screen TV,
- 32:10all of that in the boulevard between.
- 32:12Lots of misting air fans as you're going.
- 32:16There's a community workout area.
- 32:18And all of that stuff is
- 32:19open to the public free of charge.
- 32:21Wow.
- 32:22So all the activations,
- 32:24all of that stuff down the
- 32:25boulevard and the beer
- 32:28garden and vendor village
- 32:30all open to the public free of charge.
- 32:33That's awesome.
- 32:34I mean,
- 32:35some of the best stuff that I got
- 32:37to be a part of last year
- 32:38was seeing like the
- 32:39community events that they
- 32:40did or the affiliate owners
- 32:43that got to do certain
- 32:43events on each like on the playing field,
- 32:46the 5K run.
- 32:48ish that they, that the whole community,
- 32:50um, ran like those, those are awesome.
- 32:53Um, so to have certain things to do for,
- 32:56for the community or people
- 32:57that are just walking around and, um,
- 33:00this is how they see
- 33:01CrossFit and there's
- 33:02different activations, um, spots.
- 33:04It's, it's gonna be good.
- 33:08Yeah.
- 33:09Halpin, we'll give you kudos.
- 33:11I know you put that out pretty early.
- 33:13Glad someone found the
- 33:14vendor deck and released it.
- 33:15Lots of great info.
- 33:17Sure was.
- 33:18I saw it on your Instagram first.
- 33:20I didn't know who got it,
- 33:22who put it out first or whatever,
- 33:23but if it was you, kudos, man.
- 33:30Um, so,
- 33:32and so here's the one thing that
- 33:34was in that vendor deck and
- 33:35it was a projection of
- 33:36attendance that they have
- 33:38been going up in attendance every year.
- 33:41And the projection is to go
- 33:42up in attendance this year.
- 33:44My question is how the hell
- 33:46do you do that when the
- 33:48arena only seats 9,000 people?
- 33:51What was the Coliseum in Madison?
- 33:53So the Coliseum was less than that,
- 33:56like six maybe, five or six.
- 33:59But you had the festival seats,
- 34:01which has all of those
- 34:03other people in North Park
- 34:05that would be packed for the big events.
- 34:09And I'm trying to go by memory.
- 34:11I actually think I have it up.
- 34:13Let me look.
- 34:15The projection was last year was 69,969.
- 34:20If you only have 9,000 seats,
- 34:23how do you beat attendance this year?
- 34:27Are you going to count all
- 34:28the people that go to the
- 34:29high school stadium?
- 34:31Are you going to count all
- 34:32the people in Vendor Village?
- 34:35Like, how does that happen?
- 34:36I mean,
- 34:38we count people that sign up for
- 34:40the Open and don't do any
- 34:41of the workouts.
- 34:44True.
- 34:46True.
- 34:47What's the difference?
- 34:48Like anyone that sees one
- 34:50event that count it.
- 34:54Cause the Coliseum,
- 34:55the Coliseum is sold out.
- 34:57Right.
- 34:57It's capped at a number
- 34:59that's nowhere near 70,000 people.
- 35:04And so like, I just,
- 35:05I don't get where they come
- 35:06up with the projection, but I guess I,
- 35:08I shouldn't trust CrossFit's math anyway.
- 35:14But I think just having it
- 35:15in a new location will
- 35:16bring up the attendance.
- 35:17Because once people had been in Madison,
- 35:19like, many years, people were like, okay,
- 35:20I've seen it.
- 35:21I'm good.
- 35:21I'll watch it from home or whatever.
- 35:23And having a new location
- 35:25can get people excited.
- 35:26People that, you know,
- 35:28are from that area of Texas
- 35:29that haven't been at, like, you know,
- 35:31the West Coast when it was
- 35:32in California or the
- 35:34Midwest in Wisconsin
- 35:35finally get their chance to
- 35:37show out here.
- 35:38I think you'll see more people.
- 35:41I hope so.
- 35:42I hope this one keeps growing.
- 35:43I just don't know how
- 35:44they're going to count them if it's,
- 35:47unless they have a,
- 35:47you don't have to have a
- 35:48ticket to get into any of
- 35:50this stuff outside now.
- 35:51So unless you have a gate
- 35:53with someone clicking,
- 35:54like I heard how you count the people.
- 35:56Yeah.
- 35:58I mean,
- 35:58you still have to have people that
- 36:00go through the security stuff every time.
- 36:02Like you're,
- 36:02you can't just show up at the
- 36:03event and not go through any security.
- 36:06Like you'd have to pass your bag and,
- 36:08and whatnot.
- 36:09So that's the one they're counting.
- 36:13Okay.
- 36:14It was something that
- 36:15baffled me in the stuff.
- 36:18And you both have said, my question was,
- 36:21is it a good move to open
- 36:23all of this to the public?
- 36:25And I think it is.
- 36:26I think it actually will
- 36:27give a Waterpalooza-esque
- 36:30feel to Vendor Village that
- 36:32the game's never had.
- 36:33I somewhat worry that it's
- 36:38going to be too busy.
- 36:43Even if it's far away from
- 36:44the venue or like, yeah.
- 36:48Well, I'll be honest.
- 36:49Like there's times where
- 36:50being in the beer garden,
- 36:51watching on that big screen
- 36:53is pretty freaking cool.
- 36:55Yeah.
- 36:56I mean, cause you have all this big crowd,
- 36:58you get the sense of being
- 37:00in the big crowd and you
- 37:02have this big TV where
- 37:03you're seeing everything.
- 37:07It's going to be,
- 37:08it's going to be interesting.
- 37:10Cause I do think a lot of
- 37:11people will take advantage of that.
- 37:17For sure.
- 37:19Lynn makes a great point.
- 37:20Too busy is great for vendors.
- 37:25Yeah, there comes a point.
- 37:27I mean,
- 37:28like if you're going and you're
- 37:30trying to experience these,
- 37:32like the community workout
- 37:34area or some of these
- 37:35activations and you can't
- 37:37get access to any of that,
- 37:39like there becomes a bit of
- 37:41frustration with that.
- 37:42And then do you keep
- 37:43attending stuff like this?
- 37:47Yeah.
- 37:48I think it's also going to
- 37:49be a big story is going to
- 37:52be what they have in the
- 37:53activations in that boulevard.
- 37:56Like,
- 37:57what are they doing there to attract
- 37:58people in?
- 38:01And it also says in the deck
- 38:03that they're going to have
- 38:04pre-planned breaks for
- 38:06people to be able to get up
- 38:08out of their seats at the
- 38:09arena and to go out and
- 38:10check out the activations,
- 38:12check out vendor village.
- 38:14Well,
- 38:14there's more time because there's no
- 38:16age group, um, athletes that are there.
- 38:19So,
- 38:19and Dave said that it doesn't
- 38:21necessarily mean they're
- 38:22adding more events.
- 38:23So those, you know,
- 38:24those times were the
- 38:26masters athletes or the
- 38:27teenage athletes were competing.
- 38:29I'm sure they'll have a few
- 38:30hours break so that people
- 38:31can go and shop and come back.
- 38:35Those prices that I think it
- 38:37was Spin that put out for the vendors,
- 38:39is that comparable to what
- 38:40it was in Madison?
- 38:41Do we know?
- 38:42Is that more expensive?
- 38:44It seems so expensive.
- 38:48It seemed more expensive to me.
- 38:49I thought I heard at one
- 38:51time that in Madison,
- 38:53a booth was $10,000 for the games.
- 38:58You're on mute, Jamie.
- 39:03Is what Halpin set up here is $35,000?
- 39:05Is that what they're charging this year?
- 39:09I would take Halpin at his
- 39:11word at this point.
- 39:12Here we go.
- 39:13So a 10x10 is $9,000.
- 39:14I've heard a 10x10 was $10,000 at Madison.
- 39:16A 10x20 is $19,500,
- 39:17and a 10x30 is $35,500.
- 39:29Oh, okay.
- 39:30The, the 10 by 30 is the 35.
- 39:33Yeah.
- 39:35So I'll just share this real
- 39:37quick so people can see it.
- 39:40Um,
- 39:40and this is from the bar best men
- 39:42article.
- 39:46There are three options.
- 39:50I'm trying to blow it up.
- 39:50There we go.
- 39:52And we don't have that list of, uh,
- 39:54vendors yet.
- 39:55Right.
- 39:56No, this was the deck to sell to vendors.
- 40:02So nowhere in here does it
- 40:03actually say who those vendors will be.
- 40:06Do we know if the space in
- 40:09terms of what they're looking to fill?
- 40:13I'm assuming it's going to
- 40:15be way more than Madison,
- 40:17but I could be wrong thinking that.
- 40:20you look at the mock-up of
- 40:21the I'll try to get to that
- 40:23too it looks like it's much
- 40:26bigger so here we go I
- 40:37think this so this is
- 40:39pretty much it and these
- 40:41big ones on the side are
- 40:42already not available
- 40:45But here are the different sizes.
- 40:47And that's a lot of vendor booths,
- 40:49a lot of 10 by 10s.
- 40:51With the beer garden smack
- 40:52dab in the middle, like right there.
- 40:56And a demo area right behind it.
- 41:02So that's going to attract
- 41:03some people in with the
- 41:04beer garden and the demo area.
- 41:07And then you have the bigger
- 41:08ones in back and then all
- 41:10of these 10 by 10s around
- 41:13the beer garden and the demo area.
- 41:17Yeah, that looks like a great setup.
- 41:19It's got to be enticing to
- 41:20some of these vendors.
- 41:21I just think you'd have to
- 41:23question the actual foot
- 41:25traffic without knowing ticket sales.
- 41:28Like, sure, you know,
- 41:30there's the 9,000 sold out,
- 41:31but it's almost like they
- 41:34should have sold like a $50
- 41:36festival pass so that you
- 41:42knew who was coming.
- 41:45I actually like that it's free.
- 41:46We need to attract guys.
- 41:48And I think that's more than,
- 41:50than the money you make off the 50 bucks.
- 41:53It's just going to be
- 41:54someone sitting there with
- 41:54a clicker as people walk in and,
- 41:57and then you're just going
- 41:57to be estimating.
- 41:58Cause you don't know who has
- 41:59a ticket and who doesn't.
- 42:02Um,
- 42:03but here's the spectator workout area
- 42:05right here below.
- 42:06I don't know if you can see that.
- 42:09Yeah.
- 42:10Yep.
- 42:11Um,
- 42:12And then the boulevard is
- 42:14off to the left of this.
- 42:15Let me see if I can.
- 42:17Here we go.
- 42:18So here's Dickie's.
- 42:20And then the boulevard is
- 42:22straight down this red line.
- 42:24And then that's the entrance
- 42:25to the vendor village and
- 42:28all of that right here.
- 42:31So this whole boulevard is
- 42:33going to be full of activations, misting,
- 42:36fans, all of that stuff.
- 42:43So not too far of a walk.
- 42:49It's going to be interesting.
- 42:51It's going to be different,
- 42:51and I think it's going to
- 42:52be interesting to see how
- 42:53it all plays out, right?
- 42:56And we've been asking for
- 42:57different and more ways to attract people,
- 43:00and I think they have
- 43:03responded with something.
- 43:07We'll see how it goes.
- 43:12So now let's move on to
- 43:14something near and dear to
- 43:16our very own Jamie Latimer,
- 43:20and that is the Barbell
- 43:22Spin also put out this week
- 43:24that they've talked to Masters athletes.
- 43:27You've actually...
- 43:28been talking to me about
- 43:29this for sure I think
- 43:31you've said it on the air
- 43:32as well that um that
- 43:36masters athletes are not
- 43:37happy with the kits that
- 43:39they are receiving for the
- 43:41masters crossfit games and
- 43:43the real the big deal here
- 43:45is that essentially you
- 43:47don't like the the choices
- 43:48you are given in addition
- 43:51to that there's only three
- 43:52complete outfits
- 43:55for 12 possible workouts for
- 43:57the weekend and not enough
- 43:59to even like the complaints
- 44:02are you're going to be
- 44:02doing laundry every single
- 44:03night trying to squeeze
- 44:04that in just to have clean
- 44:06clothes because you are
- 44:08required to wear the
- 44:09outfits are you are you
- 44:10required required to can't
- 44:13be on the floor can't I
- 44:15don't even think you can be
- 44:16out like I don't think you
- 44:21come out to the floor like at all
- 44:24i don't know I i don't know
- 44:25how they'll run that per se
- 44:28but like yeah you
- 44:28definitely can't get on get
- 44:30on the competition floor
- 44:30without your uniform on
- 44:32they've said but there's
- 44:33four days of competition in
- 44:34three outfits it makes no
- 44:35sense at least four outfits
- 44:39yeah like if you want to go
- 44:39in the cold tub or
- 44:40something after an event
- 44:43like that you're just
- 44:44drenched after yeah that's
- 44:47that's your that's your
- 44:48laundry that's your bath I
- 44:50guess is the cold tub
- 44:51And then you bring a
- 44:52different outfit for the
- 44:53next event and hope the
- 44:54other one dries and yeah,
- 44:56we're required to wear it.
- 45:01So I think this was either
- 45:04note from Lex or Carolyn.
- 45:09There's a significant influx
- 45:10of masters this year.
- 45:12Yes.
- 45:12Right?
- 45:14Is that what's hurting this?
- 45:17Now,
- 45:17instead of outfitting 10 per age group,
- 45:21now you're outfitting 300, 400 people.
- 45:27Yeah.
- 45:28I've said since they made
- 45:29the change that they made this too big.
- 45:33It's no longer... It's not as prestigious.
- 45:40And then you've watered it down with
- 45:44It's not the same experience at all.
- 45:49Yeah, they made it too big.
- 45:52Probably trying to make some
- 45:53money back off of a bunch
- 45:55of extra registration fees.
- 45:57And I mean, it is what it is.
- 46:05Beggars can't be choosers, I guess.
- 46:07And every comment I see,
- 46:09other than the people that are angry,
- 46:10are people like, boo-hoo you.
- 46:11Yeah.
- 46:16It's just it's it is hard to
- 46:18have had something that you
- 46:20were working for or the
- 46:21people like gone and got
- 46:23something and it just be
- 46:24like ripped away.
- 46:28John wants to know, Jamie,
- 46:29did you know if do you know
- 46:31if there are cuts?
- 46:31I do not know if there are cuts.
- 46:34I. I would be surprised if
- 46:37there's cuts without cuts.
- 46:40a heads up on that, but I don't know.
- 46:42They, yeah.
- 46:44Like in, like in 2019,
- 46:45when they had the cuts,
- 46:47I remember like the further you got,
- 46:49you got more uniforms.
- 46:50And like,
- 46:50that was like a motivation for me
- 46:51to be like, Oh,
- 46:52I want to make it to the next day.
- 46:53So I get a new set of outfits.
- 46:55Um, so they could do something like that.
- 46:57If they cut down,
- 46:57let's say a 20 on the last day,
- 46:59then those 20 get a special
- 47:01new outfit or something.
- 47:03They could, something that they could do.
- 47:07Yeah.
- 47:08And Jamie has actually had
- 47:10more beef with this than
- 47:11even what was put in the article.
- 47:13Because they're treating the
- 47:16Masters athletes like
- 47:17they're all in the 60 plus division.
- 47:21With the very long shorts.
- 47:24Am I quoting you correctly?
- 47:27Yeah.
- 47:28I want my booty shorts, dang it.
- 47:30I'm so the opposite.
- 47:32Give me those bike shorts.
- 47:34There's not an option.
- 47:36See,
- 47:36what I didn't like was that you guys
- 47:37have to wear crop tops for girls, right?
- 47:40yeah I hate that I hate two
- 47:42crop shirts and like one
- 47:45tank one normal thing I
- 47:46think yeah they count the
- 47:48sports bra probably as a
- 47:49jersey too right for you
- 47:50guys because most girls
- 47:51take off their shirt like I
- 47:52wouldn't like that because
- 47:53like I never take off my
- 47:54shirt I never wear a crop
- 47:55top I always wear like a
- 47:58t-shirt or like a tank top
- 48:00but not like a crop like a
- 48:01regular tank uh dex says
- 48:03he'll wear the biker shorts
- 48:08and he will crop everything
- 48:11Well, when you have a body like Dex,
- 48:14you know,
- 48:14you're willing to just let it
- 48:16all hang out.
- 48:19It's.
- 48:24I mean, I hate to complain about it.
- 48:26It's just like.
- 48:28Like you have the events
- 48:29like MFC and legends in the winter and.
- 48:36Those are the places where
- 48:38you go and get experience
- 48:40and you get a pair of
- 48:42shorts and a shirt and
- 48:43you're not forced to wear it,
- 48:44but you're getting something.
- 48:45Those are our master's mid-majors, right?
- 48:51When people sign up for Metcon Rush,
- 48:52they don't expect a kit.
- 48:53They're going there to get experience.
- 48:55They're going there to...
- 48:58You make the games and you expect...
- 49:02something for $330 and
- 49:06$2,000 of hotel room and $800 of flights.
- 49:10And I mean, you're,
- 49:12you're spending four or five grand for,
- 49:19you got,
- 49:19you got like four or five grand
- 49:21of kit stuff in the past that like,
- 49:24I see in your notes,
- 49:24you said something about shoes.
- 49:25I'm actually happy.
- 49:26They're not even messing with the shoes,
- 49:28but I,
- 49:29I probably could have sold
- 49:30all my Noble shoes last
- 49:32year if I would have made
- 49:33it and made my entry fee back.
- 49:36There's options there.
- 49:40I did like the stuff when
- 49:41they gave it to us at semifinals.
- 49:42They treated us really nice there.
- 49:44It looked good on the judges
- 49:46and everything,
- 49:46but it's just not enough if
- 49:47it's the Masters games.
- 49:50Didn't you guys get three outfits?
- 49:53Uh, yeah, it was,
- 49:55we are getting what you
- 49:56guys got at semifinals.
- 49:57Like don't even a supply it
- 49:59for semifinals and spend
- 50:00that budget on actually
- 50:02providing us with enough clothes.
- 50:03Like,
- 50:03I don't understand how the games
- 50:05athletes are getting what
- 50:06your semifinals athletes got.
- 50:08Like I asked for, uh, like unisex t-shirts,
- 50:12but they didn't make small for the men.
- 50:14So I was given a medium.
- 50:16So I just, had I gone to small,
- 50:18I would have worn it.
- 50:18It's like a little bit baggy, which I mean,
- 50:21I could have worn, but, um,
- 50:24So you might be able to
- 50:24switch some styles out and
- 50:26say that you don't want
- 50:27long shorts and you only
- 50:28want the booty shorts.
- 50:30Same with you, Dex.
- 50:31You can ask for the booty shorts.
- 50:36Larry Young says... I'm sorry.
- 50:39Go ahead.
- 50:40Put the one you wanted.
- 50:42I lost it.
- 50:42It went bye-bye.
- 50:44There's so many comments
- 50:44right now about Reebok
- 50:45colors that I lost it.
- 50:48No, it was Larry Young.
- 50:50Okay.
- 50:51I get it.
- 50:52I liked the Reebok colors back then.
- 50:54I did too.
- 50:54I loved it.
- 50:55It was cool.
- 50:56It's this one.
- 50:59I found it.
- 51:00They take the Masters for granted.
- 51:01And if you look at recent statistics,
- 51:03without the Masters, it's over.
- 51:05They waste money on everyone
- 51:07who doesn't care.
- 51:08Invest in the people that do care.
- 51:12All right.
- 51:13Now you had John somewhere.
- 51:14Here we go.
- 51:16Dang it.
- 51:20I think if three outfits is
- 51:22all they want to give y'all,
- 51:23then it should just be
- 51:24optional to wear them or not.
- 51:26Most people would still wear
- 51:27them during at least three events.
- 51:30Agreed.
- 51:31Every time you read it,
- 51:33I read it in John Young's like voice.
- 51:35I can't help it.
- 51:36Like I'm like thinking about
- 51:37just like y'all like all
- 51:39the passion behind that statement.
- 51:41Yeah.
- 51:44MFC, one year,
- 51:46asked everyone to wear...
- 51:48Because I think they only
- 51:49gave two shorts and two shirts.
- 51:52They just said, hey,
- 51:54this event is the one that
- 51:55we're trying to like stream
- 51:57or whatever they're doing.
- 51:58Please wear it for this event.
- 51:59And I think everyone complied.
- 52:00And if they said that, like, hey,
- 52:03we have these three floor events, Friday,
- 52:06Saturday and Sunday.
- 52:08Those are the ones where
- 52:09like we are enforce us.
- 52:11I don't care.
- 52:11Say event seven, event three,
- 52:14seven and nine.
- 52:14You must be in your uniforms.
- 52:17it for broadcast for whatnot.
- 52:20Cool.
- 52:20But like beyond picking three,
- 52:23because you are failing to
- 52:24provide more than three, that's gotta be,
- 52:26that's gotta be the
- 52:27athlete's choice at that point.
- 52:29I like that.
- 52:29That would be good.
- 52:31Like one each day that, you know,
- 52:33whether it's the first
- 52:34event of each day or some sort of event,
- 52:38that'd be good.
- 52:39So Dex says,
- 52:41and this is just to
- 52:41encapsulate everything
- 52:43that's just been said in
- 52:44the comments about colors and all that,
- 52:46Reebok apparel was poo-poo.
- 52:48My response to that is,
- 52:49it may have been poo-poo,
- 52:50but I could tell what
- 52:51athlete was who on the
- 52:53floor because of the
- 52:54combination they wore during that event.
- 52:56Because Reebok gave you so
- 52:58many varieties of different
- 53:00colored shirts and bottoms
- 53:02and bras and tanks,
- 53:04and I could tell who was
- 53:05who on the floor.
- 53:07these last couple years it
- 53:09is tough you're like well
- 53:12that body type I think it's
- 53:18I don't even know that
- 53:18you're gonna be able to
- 53:20even see body type in the
- 53:22outfits that we have really
- 53:23like they're not that baggy
- 53:28they're not flattering some
- 53:30people make them look good
- 53:31I'm sure I'm gonna look
- 53:32like a box out there so
- 53:35Dex said they gave so much back then,
- 53:37he wrote it off on his taxes.
- 53:43Must be nice, Dex.
- 53:44Rub it in.
- 53:47Well,
- 53:47now I know what riff I'm going to
- 53:49clip this week.
- 53:51Because I'm going to look
- 53:51like a box out there.
- 53:53That's the line.
- 53:57I like their stuff, though.
- 53:59That was good.
- 54:01I have yet to feel it.
- 54:04Um, which is also,
- 54:05that's another thing that's
- 54:06like scary to me.
- 54:07Like we're pretty,
- 54:09athletes are pretty
- 54:10particular in the stuff they wear.
- 54:13Um, I didn't like their sports bra.
- 54:15That's the only thing I felt
- 54:15like it was like wider than normal.
- 54:18Yeah.
- 54:20And I think it's one style
- 54:21to each their own.
- 54:22Like some, it could be, you know,
- 54:23I didn't particularly like that,
- 54:24but someone else could.
- 54:25So that's clothing for you.
- 54:31So I think we've pounded that one home.
- 54:35Masters need more.
- 54:38Masters need more clothes.
- 54:40A lot of comments were,
- 54:42y'all going to end up naked
- 54:43by the end of the weekend
- 54:44because there's nothing left.
- 54:47I think that was Sarah Cooper.
- 54:50Wonderful.
- 54:52And Lynn's in agreement with me,
- 54:54which I love.
- 54:55I like the gear to identify
- 54:57the athletes during streaming.
- 54:58Yes.
- 55:02so uh why is dex in a speedo
- 55:06will be the question at the
- 55:07way oh god I miss you
- 55:14brother larry I agree I do
- 55:16like that they stepped up
- 55:17to sponsor I just and I i
- 55:20do feel like I'm on them
- 55:22and it's unfair but it's
- 55:25again don't take on the
- 55:27semi-finals don't like
- 55:28think about what you're
- 55:29doing and still making it
- 55:32prestigious for the masters.
- 55:34Otherwise just get rid of us.
- 55:36Like,
- 55:36I don't know why we're half-assing
- 55:38this event.
- 55:39Like we could just do our
- 55:40events like MFC and legends
- 55:42could just stay legends.
- 55:43And you can't say you're
- 55:46doing the games and then
- 55:47change it completely.
- 55:50Yeah.
- 55:51I think the biggest mistake
- 55:53was it shouldn't have moved to 40.
- 55:55And I know that's going to
- 55:56piss Dex off because then Dex is out.
- 55:59But 10 was way too small.
- 56:0140 is way too big.
- 56:04Yep.
- 56:05There's a happy in between
- 56:06there that better fits this event.
- 56:08Yes.
- 56:0930 for the 35 to 39.
- 56:10Like 20 to 30 there.
- 56:10And then the rest of them are basically...
- 56:17Maybe 20 next, and then it's 10.
- 56:19And then the upper ones, five.
- 56:21Five.
- 56:23Yeah.
- 56:23Yeah.
- 56:24Again,
- 56:25that's where MFC and Legends come
- 56:28into play.
- 56:29If you're 20 to 40, go to those events.
- 56:32Get more experience and earn your way up.
- 56:34I agree.
- 56:39All right.
- 56:40So the next topic was
- 56:42inspired by John Young and
- 56:45in our conversation saying
- 56:47that rivalries are good and
- 56:48we should embrace them.
- 56:50And so what I wanted to talk
- 56:52about is do we need more
- 56:54rivalries in CrossFit?
- 56:57And my opinion is from my
- 57:00perspective is the men,
- 57:02they're coming with rivalries.
- 57:04We've got them all over the map.
- 57:07And it's going to make the
- 57:09men's games super fun to
- 57:11watch because of that.
- 57:13But we don't seem to have
- 57:15them as much on the women's side.
- 57:17And so I want to oppose that to you.
- 57:20Have we ever had a good women's rivalry?
- 57:29I can't think of many.
- 57:30I think maybe Cara and Tia
- 57:32would be one that would come to mind.
- 57:34Just coming from the same region,
- 57:36they were back and forth at finish.
- 57:41I don't know how close they are together.
- 57:43I feel like they're fine with each other,
- 57:45but there hasn't been much
- 57:49on the women's side.
- 57:51Yeah, I mean,
- 57:52me versus Semenza for hockey was great,
- 57:55but we... Wisco won, though.
- 57:59Is it a rivalry, though,
- 58:00when you dominate the other side?
- 58:03No,
- 58:03but Ohio State won against Wisconsin
- 58:07this year in the finals.
- 58:08Yeah, but you weren't playing then.
- 58:09No.
- 58:10When you were playing,
- 58:11it was a domination.
- 58:13And Paige will admit that.
- 58:14Yeah.
- 58:17But I think that's part of the problem,
- 58:19right,
- 58:19is Tia has not let anybody be her
- 58:22rival for seven years.
- 58:25Right.
- 58:26No,
- 58:26because we're just working out with her
- 58:28basically.
- 58:28Like it's her for so long
- 58:30and then the rest of us are
- 58:32competing after that.
- 58:34I think the best rivalry,
- 58:36the most recent rivalry
- 58:37we've had is Tia and Katrin.
- 58:41The two years Tia was second
- 58:43and Katrin won.
- 58:48Those were close.
- 58:49You could even throw Sarah in there.
- 58:51It was more of a three-way.
- 58:54They came down to the last
- 58:55events a couple times.
- 58:59They don't talk the smack
- 59:01that's going on now.
- 59:02I saw a little bit of it.
- 59:06You know how Jason Hopper is
- 59:08with Dallin and everything?
- 59:09Between Ariel and Daniel Brandon,
- 59:12they're friendly chirping.
- 59:14I think they were trying to
- 59:16be like a girl version of it
- 59:18maybe but I think they
- 59:20they've stopped but it
- 59:21could have been fun between
- 59:22those two like that would
- 59:23be that would be a good
- 59:24battle because I feel like
- 59:25it's a good match yeah and
- 59:28they're great friends so
- 59:29it's like you know that
- 59:30hopper and and gallon type
- 59:32I hope they bring it to the
- 59:34games because you did see
- 59:36it like when ariel did the
- 59:38open announcement yeah and
- 59:39that was there with signs
- 59:41um like that was awesome
- 59:44And I think we need more of that.
- 59:46And I think Laura would be a
- 59:47trash talker in the right situation.
- 59:52But she has to hang with Tia
- 59:53to make it work.
- 59:55Right.
- 59:56She can hang.
- 59:57She's good.
- 1:00:00And I hope we get that this
- 1:00:01year because I think that
- 1:00:02will elevate the sport.
- 1:00:04I think the men's side this
- 1:00:05year is freakish.
- 1:00:08You've got Jeff and Roman.
- 1:00:09You've got Dallin and Roman.
- 1:00:11You've got Dallin and Jeff.
- 1:00:12You've got Dallin and Hopper.
- 1:00:15The best shit talker is Pat Belner.
- 1:00:18When he wants to,
- 1:00:20he has some great
- 1:00:21one-liners and he's great.
- 1:00:24He's always in the mix.
- 1:00:26Well,
- 1:00:26and then you had two people wanting to,
- 1:00:28like Dex brought up,
- 1:00:29two people wanting to fight
- 1:00:29after the bike event last year.
- 1:00:31I mean, Medeiros and Lazar.
- 1:00:35Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:40You guys probably have not
- 1:00:41seen the behind the scenes of West Coast,
- 1:00:43the second episode this morning.
- 1:00:45I watched it this morning.
- 1:00:47There's a moment where
- 1:00:49Savannah is interviewing Pat,
- 1:00:51and Pat's like,
- 1:00:51I didn't even win the event.
- 1:00:52Go talk to Colton.
- 1:00:54He won.
- 1:00:54Wait, you always talk to Colton.
- 1:00:56Stay here.
- 1:00:56I deserve some love.
- 1:00:59That's great.
- 1:01:03It was probably the highlight of the whole,
- 1:01:05because you know he means it.
- 1:01:09Yeah.
- 1:01:10I think the thing with the guys,
- 1:01:12other than Justin and Lazar,
- 1:01:16I feel like everyone else
- 1:01:19is actually friends,
- 1:01:20and it's funny banter.
- 1:01:22That's the problem with women,
- 1:01:25is they either will
- 1:01:28actually hate each other,
- 1:01:29and I feel like that's kind of where...
- 1:01:32the question was with Emma
- 1:01:33Carey and Danielle Brandon, like,
- 1:01:35is there actual animosity here?
- 1:01:37And you could like feel that
- 1:01:38tension on the floor and
- 1:01:39the year that's going to be your rivalry.
- 1:01:41Like it's going to be awkward with women.
- 1:01:43It's there's not, they're just personal.
- 1:01:45It's more,
- 1:01:45I feel like girls take it more
- 1:01:47personal in general.
- 1:01:49Right.
- 1:01:50Like they'll be like, Oh, it's jokes.
- 1:01:51But then they'll be like, I remember that.
- 1:01:52Yeah.
- 1:01:53Yeah.
- 1:01:56Yeah.
- 1:01:58There's comments in here about, like,
- 1:01:59women taking it too seriously.
- 1:02:00Yep.
- 1:02:02Right?
- 1:02:02And the men,
- 1:02:04you can tell it's in jest most
- 1:02:06of the time.
- 1:02:07Yes.
- 1:02:11It's a shame that culturally
- 1:02:13it's allowed to kind of be
- 1:02:15where for the men it's okay
- 1:02:17and for the women it's catty.
- 1:02:20It shouldn't be that way.
- 1:02:22Women should be able to have
- 1:02:23just as much fun doing it.
- 1:02:25And Danielle and Ariel
- 1:02:26showed that it can be done
- 1:02:28in a tasteful way.
- 1:02:30I think, I think they,
- 1:02:31they did a good job.
- 1:02:32And like, I, I would like, um,
- 1:02:34DM them and be like, I like, I like it.
- 1:02:36Keep going, like run with it.
- 1:02:38Um, yeah, because guys do it and it's,
- 1:02:42you know,
- 1:02:42they're confident girls do it
- 1:02:44and we're cocky.
- 1:02:45Um, like it's,
- 1:02:46it's just the way it's
- 1:02:47sometimes that things can
- 1:02:48get looked at and, um,
- 1:02:52that's how the society is a lot of times.
- 1:02:56I come from the attitude era
- 1:02:57of wrestling and cocky is cool to me.
- 1:03:02That's why I was a big Rock fan.
- 1:03:05Back when he was a wrestler,
- 1:03:06I loved The Rock because he
- 1:03:08was flat-out cocky.
- 1:03:10And I love that stuff.
- 1:03:16And I think we've missed it.
- 1:03:19in this sport.
- 1:03:20When it's been there,
- 1:03:21it has elevated the sport.
- 1:03:23The thing is it needs to be
- 1:03:24from the top because if the
- 1:03:25rivalry is from the 20th places,
- 1:03:28it's not relevant.
- 1:03:29Like John Young said earlier,
- 1:03:31Tia has been in a league of
- 1:03:34her own and Laura's in a
- 1:03:35league of her own.
- 1:03:36normally like right after
- 1:03:37for the last few years so
- 1:03:39like we want to see it from
- 1:03:40the top people and on the
- 1:03:41men's side we are seeing it
- 1:03:43and it's not from you know
- 1:03:44people down the leaderboard
- 1:03:45it's from the top 10. so
- 1:03:47that's what's making it
- 1:03:48even more interesting even
- 1:03:49more captivating for us so
- 1:03:51unless like those top girls
- 1:03:55start you know going back
- 1:03:56and forth I just I mean I
- 1:03:57hope to see it it's fun I
- 1:03:59love it I mean I come from
- 1:04:00a hockey sport which people
- 1:04:02chirp all the time
- 1:04:04Yeah,
- 1:04:04cocky for women is amazing if you can
- 1:04:06back it up.
- 1:04:10Well said.
- 1:04:18Also,
- 1:04:19do you think the rivalries are a U.S.
- 1:04:20thing because of Europeans
- 1:04:21and Asia and Africa?
- 1:04:23I don't think it's a thing,
- 1:04:25just culturally.
- 1:04:27So how would that translate globally?
- 1:04:30I do think there's European
- 1:04:31rivalries for sure.
- 1:04:32Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:34Um,
- 1:04:36it's definitely easier to have a
- 1:04:37rivalry when you compete
- 1:04:38more often against each other.
- 1:04:39So it's a natural robbery
- 1:04:42that will happen in North
- 1:04:43America versus in Europe when they go to,
- 1:04:45you know, multiple events in Europe,
- 1:04:47like you start competing
- 1:04:47against those people and now you're,
- 1:04:50you're beating them in certain comps,
- 1:04:51they're beating you and
- 1:04:52you're starting to, you know,
- 1:04:53go back and forth, but.
- 1:04:58Emily Rolfe should get, look at Tia,
- 1:05:00give her a fake silver
- 1:05:01medal before the run.
- 1:05:03If she beats her, she's a legend.
- 1:05:08Or Alex Kazan hand her a
- 1:05:10fake silver medal before
- 1:05:11legless rope climbs.
- 1:05:14It's still risky.
- 1:05:19Um,
- 1:05:23I agree with that.
- 1:05:24I think we create the
- 1:05:25narrative with Euro rivalries.
- 1:05:27They don't give a shit about
- 1:05:28each other in that regard
- 1:05:30unless someone cheats.
- 1:05:36So yeah.
- 1:05:39Anyway, I just thought about that.
- 1:05:41I thought like every time
- 1:05:45that's just another way for
- 1:05:46people to beat me, John.
- 1:05:47I think this is a great idea though.
- 1:05:53I do like this idea of, you know,
- 1:05:56North America West versus
- 1:05:57the East versus Canada.
- 1:05:59Cause I won't say North America.
- 1:06:00Let's go USA West East.
- 1:06:03I think Canada can have her
- 1:06:04like their own team.
- 1:06:07Oceana is ridiculous.
- 1:06:10Yeah.
- 1:06:10We're team world team Europe.
- 1:06:12This is, that's a great idea.
- 1:06:13You start cheering for people within your,
- 1:06:16your region.
- 1:06:18I like that.
- 1:06:20Yeah.
- 1:06:21Yeah,
- 1:06:22what they're doing with Heat One is
- 1:06:23awesome.
- 1:06:23I just wish I could get all
- 1:06:24my picks in in a weekend.
- 1:06:26Just one time.
- 1:06:29Without having to do them all on Thursday.
- 1:06:31You just have to do them
- 1:06:33each night right before you go to bed.
- 1:06:35They need to switch it so
- 1:06:36you can't just use Tia the whole time.
- 1:06:39Agree.
- 1:06:40It could be no more than two
- 1:06:42plays or something.
- 1:06:44If there's six athletes per team,
- 1:06:46let's call it three in case...
- 1:06:49Cause six times two would be
- 1:06:5012 events and there could
- 1:06:52be more than 12 events.
- 1:06:53So no more than three plays.
- 1:06:57Yeah.
- 1:06:58But you've been like when
- 1:06:59we're on the road,
- 1:07:00like we're shutting down the show at 10,
- 1:07:0211 o'clock at night.
- 1:07:04Sometimes we have,
- 1:07:05we're eating as we're starting the show.
- 1:07:08Like it's, it's just craziness.
- 1:07:11I try to do it right before
- 1:07:12I close my eyes.
- 1:07:15Yeah.
- 1:07:17I need to set an alarm.
- 1:07:18Yeah.
- 1:07:21So John says they've got it
- 1:07:23all figured out.
- 1:07:24Just hasn't come out yet.
- 1:07:26Awesome.
- 1:07:27Cool.
- 1:07:29So then I just have some quick hitters.
- 1:07:32These are not things we're
- 1:07:33going to dwell on a long time,
- 1:07:34but just some quick hit notes that I saw.
- 1:07:37And that is first is prize
- 1:07:39money was announced this
- 1:07:41week and it's remaining the
- 1:07:43same for everybody except adaptive.
- 1:07:47Yeah.
- 1:07:49Any, any thoughts?
- 1:07:53Adapted, they added more divisions.
- 1:07:55So that's a positive for
- 1:07:57for that community.
- 1:07:58Obviously,
- 1:07:58unfortunate that their prize
- 1:08:00purse is going down, but I think overall,
- 1:08:02people in that community
- 1:08:04would want to have more
- 1:08:05people represented.
- 1:08:06So I think that part is good.
- 1:08:08To have it match with losing Noble,
- 1:08:10I think is a good sign that
- 1:08:12GORUCK and whatever else
- 1:08:14for sponsor were at least
- 1:08:15able to match in their first year.
- 1:08:18We'll see what happens from
- 1:08:19here on out and how fast
- 1:08:21those payments will come after the games,
- 1:08:24but
- 1:08:26At least we're not going down.
- 1:08:28Yeah.
- 1:08:29Yeah.
- 1:08:30I did see some comments
- 1:08:33about taking some of the prize money,
- 1:08:37like from first and making
- 1:08:38instead of 315 or whatever it is,
- 1:08:42and making it like 215 and
- 1:08:44get a paid group of judges
- 1:08:47that are trained and good
- 1:08:51on the floor in the moment.
- 1:08:52And I don't know how I feel about that.
- 1:08:56But I do think the judges
- 1:08:57work hard and there are
- 1:08:58good ones out there and
- 1:09:00they should be rewarded for
- 1:09:01being the good ones they
- 1:09:03are and find a way to not
- 1:09:05let some of those that
- 1:09:07maybe have graded out
- 1:09:08differently from being on the floor.
- 1:09:14Aren't the games judges all seminar staff?
- 1:09:17Theoretically, yeah.
- 1:09:19So like, I mean,
- 1:09:20aren't they already kind of getting paid?
- 1:09:23So what I don't know about
- 1:09:24the seminar staff is if
- 1:09:25they're graded as judges.
- 1:09:28Because to be a seminar
- 1:09:28staff member is one thing.
- 1:09:30To be a judge on the floor
- 1:09:34is something different.
- 1:09:36And they should have some kind of a, well,
- 1:09:39I know they paid the
- 1:09:40seminar staff judges.
- 1:09:42But like for the teams,
- 1:09:43it won't be seminar staff.
- 1:09:45It will be the volunteers.
- 1:09:48Who cares?
- 1:09:48I care.
- 1:09:50I care.
- 1:09:52No, you don't.
- 1:09:53I care because they don't
- 1:09:54put the right... Just
- 1:09:55because you can teach a
- 1:09:57movement doesn't mean you
- 1:09:58can judge a movement.
- 1:09:59I agree.
- 1:10:00At high speed.
- 1:10:01I agree.
- 1:10:05They put a lot of credence in that,
- 1:10:06and I think it's misguided.
- 1:10:09I still would like to see...
- 1:10:11Let's say you were going to
- 1:10:12bring down the money of the first place,
- 1:10:15which, I mean, that sucks,
- 1:10:16but I still feel like that
- 1:10:18middle ground doesn't get paid enough.
- 1:10:20Like,
- 1:10:21you go through the whole
- 1:10:22season and you're a top,
- 1:10:24let's say top 10 or top 15
- 1:10:25athlete at the games,
- 1:10:26which is you're a stud.
- 1:10:29And the most you'll make
- 1:10:31within semifinal and the
- 1:10:33games is like less than, I don't know,
- 1:10:3840,000 maybe between both
- 1:10:40of them to combine like,
- 1:10:43plus you're taxed on it.
- 1:10:44Like that's not a full-time job.
- 1:10:47I mean, people have sponsorships,
- 1:10:49but I'd like to see some.
- 1:10:50I mean,
- 1:10:51it's good that finally from the
- 1:10:53worst place they're getting
- 1:10:55paid now because for a long
- 1:10:55time they weren't getting anything.
- 1:10:57But I'd like to see a little
- 1:10:59bit more for those,
- 1:11:01let's call it at least
- 1:11:02those top 20 at least need
- 1:11:04to get a little bit more.
- 1:11:09The volunteers are paid in
- 1:11:10old merchandise from
- 1:11:11previous year's games.
- 1:11:12They are.
- 1:11:13And a challenge coin.
- 1:11:16And usually a pair of shoes
- 1:11:16that just hurt.
- 1:11:27I used to agree with you, Scott,
- 1:11:28but if you notice,
- 1:11:29there's been less
- 1:11:29controversy surrounding
- 1:11:31seminar judges than the
- 1:11:32volunteer judges from semis, for example.
- 1:11:38I guess I don't know who's
- 1:11:38who because there was some
- 1:11:39atrocious judging.
- 1:11:43At semifinals?
- 1:11:45Yeah, those are the volunteer judges.
- 1:11:48Some of our staff only do the games.
- 1:11:50Okay,
- 1:11:50so maybe we need to take the money
- 1:11:52and put it towards paying
- 1:11:53semis so that actual
- 1:11:56correct athletes make it through.
- 1:12:00I don't disagree.
- 1:12:02Because I think for the most
- 1:12:03part of the games, for the most part,
- 1:12:05it's well judged, I would say.
- 1:12:10For the individuals, for the most part.
- 1:12:15Okay.
- 1:12:16The year that Boz did all
- 1:12:17the programming and with
- 1:12:19the wall facing and the
- 1:12:20brick with the hole and the
- 1:12:23crossovers and there was a lot of stuff.
- 1:12:26But it was a lot of new
- 1:12:27stuff thrown at everybody last minute.
- 1:12:29Make it easy on the judges.
- 1:12:31You're making it tough on the judges.
- 1:12:33You got people's hair that
- 1:12:35are going over the line and
- 1:12:37it's hard to see whether it
- 1:12:38was the head going to the,
- 1:12:39like past that line on the block or,
- 1:12:41or the hair,
- 1:12:42like just make it easy on the judges,
- 1:12:44pick movements that are
- 1:12:45going to be easy to judge
- 1:12:47and let the athletes race.
- 1:12:50Yeah.
- 1:12:51I think that the more
- 1:12:52simplified straight
- 1:12:54CrossFit workouts we get, the easier,
- 1:12:56the better the judges will do.
- 1:13:01But
- 1:13:04so uh okay uh the
- 1:13:08wadapalooza socal tickets
- 1:13:09are on sale how much uh
- 1:13:13they're not cheap um I know
- 1:13:16the vip tickets are like
- 1:13:17400 bucks but they come
- 1:13:19with food but all you can
- 1:13:21drink beverages um private
- 1:13:23bathrooms um and premiere
- 1:13:27seating on all floors wow
- 1:13:32And then the regular tickets, I think,
- 1:13:35are about $100 and something, I think.
- 1:13:39I'm going by memory.
- 1:13:40I saw the Instagram post.
- 1:13:45The VIP looked like worth it
- 1:13:47to me because of all-day food,
- 1:13:50all-day drink.
- 1:13:51Yeah.
- 1:13:53Private bathrooms.
- 1:13:56Access to air-conditioned bathrooms.
- 1:13:57Yeah.
- 1:13:59Which is a big deal in the hot sun.
- 1:14:02So I thought that was pretty cool.
- 1:14:08The other thing we have is Uplift shirts.
- 1:14:10Uplift has announced their
- 1:14:11new shirts for this year.
- 1:14:13I don't know if you saw those.
- 1:14:17Trying to pull it up real quick here.
- 1:14:18It's got the like camo, right?
- 1:14:23Yeah,
- 1:14:24he tagged me and now I can't find it.
- 1:14:29Okay.
- 1:14:31Let me search.
- 1:14:35There we go.
- 1:14:38Let me share my screen.
- 1:14:49There they are.
- 1:14:50So I don't know if you can see.
- 1:14:53Those are, those are look nice.
- 1:14:54Yeah.
- 1:15:12They've got Boz programming
- 1:15:13this year's workout on Labor Day weekend.
- 1:15:16So make sure you go sign up.
- 1:15:18Do that WOD in honor of
- 1:15:21suicide prevention and you
- 1:15:22get a shirt commemorating it with it.
- 1:15:26So super cool this year.
- 1:15:28Do you want to post the link
- 1:15:29in the comments maybe or something after?
- 1:15:34Yeah, I'll do that after the show.
- 1:15:36I'll put those in the
- 1:15:37comments or I can do it now, I guess.
- 1:15:41Sure.
- 1:15:44Yeah, I'll do it.
- 1:15:46Too much going on right now.
- 1:15:48I'll put them in the
- 1:15:49comments right after the show.
- 1:15:50So make sure you check there.
- 1:15:55And back to this.
- 1:15:58And finally, we have Metcon Rush.
- 1:16:01They've announced their
- 1:16:03workouts for this year.
- 1:16:05Looks like a fun competition.
- 1:16:08And pretty much...
- 1:16:10Other than Carolyn,
- 1:16:11everybody who didn't make
- 1:16:12the games this year is at this event.
- 1:16:17So Nick Matthew, Freya Mooseburger,
- 1:16:20I think Paige Powers is there.
- 1:16:21It is a who's who lineup
- 1:16:26pretty much of all those athletes.
- 1:16:29So it's in Hagerstown, Maryland.
- 1:16:32They put on a great show.
- 1:16:34You should go check that out.
- 1:16:35It is really, really a cool event.
- 1:16:41I like the events.
- 1:16:44Yeah.
- 1:16:46They look fun.
- 1:16:47I think I looked at them and
- 1:16:49was glad I didn't sign up.
- 1:16:50See, I was like, crap,
- 1:16:52I should have signed up.
- 1:16:52These are much better than
- 1:16:53my semifinal workouts.
- 1:16:56I like them.
- 1:16:57Yeah.
- 1:16:58So a couple things real quick just is...
- 1:17:03In the comments,
- 1:17:05we do a listener question of the week.
- 1:17:07If you have a question for us,
- 1:17:08make sure you drop that in the comments,
- 1:17:11not the chat, but the comments,
- 1:17:13and we'll go through the
- 1:17:13questions and bring one of
- 1:17:15those up next week for us to talk about.
- 1:17:19In addition to that,
- 1:17:20this is a new concept.
- 1:17:22We're getting big on our riffs,
- 1:17:26and I want to put this out to the crowd.
- 1:17:28If you have a riff that you
- 1:17:30want us to hear about,
- 1:17:33Record your riff,
- 1:17:35make it two minutes or less, DM it to me,
- 1:17:38and if it's good and PG,
- 1:17:42we will play it on the show,
- 1:17:45and then we'll respond to your riff.
- 1:17:49but why should we have all
- 1:17:51the fun riffing about
- 1:17:53what's going on in the CrossFit space?
- 1:17:55Let's give you the option,
- 1:17:57the opportunity to make your own riff.
- 1:18:00Just take your iPhone or
- 1:18:01your Android device,
- 1:18:03record yourself a video and
- 1:18:05drop it in a DM to me,
- 1:18:08or I will give you my email address.
- 1:18:10I think you can only put one
- 1:18:11minute on Instagram.
- 1:18:14So you might have to,
- 1:18:14or they can put on YouTube.
- 1:18:17They can do it unlisted on
- 1:18:17YouTube and give you a link.
- 1:18:20That's true.
- 1:18:21And I can make a version for
- 1:18:23Instagram that's longer than two minutes.
- 1:18:26Yeah,
- 1:18:26my riff last week with John was well
- 1:18:29longer than two minutes.
- 1:18:30I meant more like if you try
- 1:18:31to send it through a DM, like your video,
- 1:18:35you'll have to put it on YouTube,
- 1:18:37like unlisted.
- 1:18:38Yeah.
- 1:18:38However you need to do it to us,
- 1:18:40I will give you my email.
- 1:18:41You can send it to me that way.
- 1:18:43I think you can get a couple
- 1:18:44minutes video through email.
- 1:18:47Yeah,
- 1:18:47John has never gone only two minutes.
- 1:18:50Don't be lying, John.
- 1:18:53So if you have that,
- 1:18:55I was going to say something else to that,
- 1:18:56but it can be about anything.
- 1:19:00I don't, I don't care.
- 1:19:01I we're just not a political show,
- 1:19:03but it can be anything sports related,
- 1:19:05anything entertainment related,
- 1:19:07whatever it is.
- 1:19:07If it, if it's cool,
- 1:19:09we'll play it and then
- 1:19:10we'll respond to it.
- 1:19:13But we want to give you the fans,
- 1:19:15the listeners,
- 1:19:16an opportunity to riff with
- 1:19:17us and then we'll react to your riff.
- 1:19:22So with that,
- 1:19:23if you have any questions
- 1:19:25about getting that to me,
- 1:19:26just DM me and we'll work it out.
- 1:19:28And somehow I have some Google drives.
- 1:19:30You can drop it in there.
- 1:19:32I can just give you permission.
- 1:19:34I think I'm going to get
- 1:19:35Dropbox back because too
- 1:19:37many times are we sharing
- 1:19:38folders with Holly and it,
- 1:19:41it doesn't seem to work at
- 1:19:42different events.
- 1:19:43So PG girls, goodness.
- 1:19:51Listen,
- 1:19:54We talk what we feel,
- 1:19:58but we keep it PG here, okay?
- 1:20:04Keep it PG.
- 1:20:07It's the way I honor my mother.
- 1:20:09Keep it only two minutes, John.
- 1:20:11Keep it only two minutes.
- 1:20:14John can't keep it under two minutes.
- 1:20:16Keep going.
- 1:20:17He does a riff like every three hours,
- 1:20:20I think.
- 1:20:20I love it.
- 1:20:34Okay.
- 1:20:40Okay.
- 1:20:42And on that note,
- 1:20:43we're going to say goodbye.
- 1:20:46Peace out.
- 1:20:47Thank you for joining us.
- 1:20:49Don't forget in the comments,
- 1:20:50question of the week,
- 1:20:51send us your video riffs.
- 1:20:53And with that,
- 1:20:53we will see everybody next
- 1:20:55time on the Clydesdale media Sunday night,
- 1:20:58CrossFit talk.
- 1:21:00Bye guys.
