- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, NASA Chobi.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks lose
- 0:15Speaker 1: to the Commanders on the road. Bump, that's a weird
- 0:16Speaker 1: thing to say.
- 0:17Speaker 3: It is weird. It's been a while.
- 0:18Speaker 1: First time since November 16th of 2025, the Seahawks finally
- 0:22Speaker 1: lost a game. Ends a franchise record. 12 consecutive wins.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Just the third road loss of Mike McDonald's career, which
- 0:28Speaker 1: is crazy as a head coach with the Seahawks. He
- 0:30Speaker 1: improves or goes down to 16-3. It was just the
- 0:33Speaker 1: fourth time in the last 13 games the Seahawks allowed
- 0:35Speaker 1: more than 20 points. They also finally allowed play more
- 0:39Speaker 1: than 20 yards. Things that you know are going to happen, honestly, though,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but for me, while it's upsetting, it's a game I
- 0:43Speaker 1: feel like the Seahawks could have won, it just goes
- 0:45Speaker 1: to show you how lucky and how spoiled we have
- 0:47Speaker 1: been as people who cover this team, follow this team,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the run that they've been on and how dominant they've
- 0:52Speaker 1: been that it's taken this long to suffer the feeling
- 0:54Speaker 1: of a loss again.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Yeah, man, they came out hot. You know what I
- 0:58Speaker 4: compare it to when I golf? and I start with, like,
- 1:01Speaker 4: three pars, I know I'm a bogey. So it's going
- 1:04Speaker 4: to happen. So that's the way I looked at it.
- 1:05Speaker 4: I said, all right, you got a quick little bogey,
- 1:07Speaker 4: and we can make it up next week with a birdie. But, no,
- 1:11Speaker 4: the Commanders play good football. You got to tip your cap.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I'm telling people all the time, like, these are pros.
- 1:15Speaker 4: And when I started really looking at the names on
- 1:17Speaker 4: that defensive line, too, I go, yeah, I know that guy.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I know that guy as well.
- 1:21Speaker 2: First rounder there.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 4: So, no, the Commanders, they played well and took advantage
- 1:25Speaker 4: of some mistakes that the Hawks made.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean, there's no, definitely the Seahawks could
- 1:29Speaker 1: have done things differently with their commanders. They get paid
- 1:31Speaker 1: to do it too. Dan Quinn's a great coach. Their
- 1:33Speaker 1: offensive staff did things the right way. Marcus Mariota made plays.
- 1:35Speaker 1: So let's jump right into it with what had happened.
- 1:40Speaker 4: See, what had happened was, what had happened at first was,
- 1:43Speaker 4: what had happened was, on Hawk Talk.
- 1:46Speaker 1: First half, really most of the game did not go
- 1:48Speaker 1: the way the Seahawks wanted it to. Both teams trade
- 1:51Speaker 1: punts on their opening drives. Then disaster strikes at Seahawks.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Jadarian Price fumbled the football. Commanders was finding the end
- 1:57Speaker 1: zone next when Marcus Mariota connected Rashad White with a
- 2:00Speaker 1: six-yard touchdown.
- 2:00Speaker 2: That made the score 7-0. Bum, it's a little early.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm not going to press the panic button on Price
- 2:05Speaker 1: fumbling the football. It's unfortunate it's happened two weeks in
- 2:07Speaker 1: a row. I know people are asking Sam and Coach, like,
- 2:11Speaker 1: what do you tell him? No one is more hard
- 2:13Speaker 1: on themselves when they fumble the football than them. He's
- 2:15Speaker 1: going to be just fine. It's unfortunate it cost Seahawks points,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but I wouldn't. I wouldn't worry too much about it
- 2:20Speaker 1: long term. No, I think you can't ignore it. Like
- 2:23Speaker 1: it's a thing that happened, but he's a football player.
- 2:26Speaker 1: He's a running back. He's going to tote the rock.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So just do your high and tight drills. I'm sure
- 2:31Speaker 1: RB coach is going to be with him, but I
- 2:33Speaker 1: am ready to panic at him with you. But then
- 2:35Speaker 1: after two punts, the Seahawks will finally get on the board.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Nine plays, 90 yard drive ending with a touchdown pass
- 2:40Speaker 4: at JSM that tied the score at seven.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Then both teams will punt on the next two drives.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Then the Commanders will put together another solid drive going
- 2:47Speaker 4: eight plays, 60 yards, anywhere to touchdown to Traylon Brooks.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I really liked him coming out of college. It was
- 2:51Speaker 4: nice to see him kind of get out of Tennessee
- 2:53Speaker 4: and try to do his thing. That made the score 14-7.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yeah, then Seahawks would respond with a drive of their own,
- 2:58Speaker 1: 12 plays, 78 yards. But that drive would fizzle out.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Turned out to be a really big play knowing how
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Seahawks lost. They get down to the red zone.
- 3:05Speaker 1: They're unable to convert down there. A lot of people
- 3:07Speaker 1: asking why didn't they do the barnyard, why didn't they
- 3:09Speaker 1: do this. Sometimes it doesn't work out. It didn't happen.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Could they have kicked a field goal? I like the
- 3:13Speaker 1: aggressiveness there. I like that the Seahawks went for it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It didn't work out for them, unfortunately, so they don't
- 3:17Speaker 1: get points there. Both teams, though, would get field goals
- 3:21Speaker 1: before the end of the half, and the Seahawks would
- 3:23Speaker 1: go to halftime trailing 17-10.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, 17-10.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You're not feeling great, but you're not feeling bad either.
- 3:27Speaker 4: You feel like things are going to turn around. Then
- 3:29Speaker 4: after forcing a three and out to start the second half,
- 3:31Speaker 4: the Seahawks had another really unlucky play as Sam Darnold's
- 3:34Speaker 4: pass hit at D.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Lyman's helmet, and it was intercepted.
- 3:37Speaker 4: They turned that into seven points as Marcus Mariota connected
- 3:40Speaker 4: to a Terry McLaurin for a 30-yard touchdown. That made
- 3:44Speaker 4: the score 24-10. Then the Seahawks would answer with a
- 3:47Speaker 4: 60-yard drive in with a touchdown to Eric Saubert. That
- 3:49Speaker 4: made it 24-17.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so they're right back in the game. That Terry
- 3:52Speaker 1: McLaurin play you talked about, Job just kind of missed
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the line of scrimmage.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He gets back. He's in trail technique.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Underthrown balls, back shoulder, those are really hard to defend,
- 4:00Speaker 1: especially with a player like that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: In trail technique, that's dang near impossible to defend.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's impossible.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. You're 1,000% right, and you didn't make
- 4:05Speaker 1: the play. It is what it is. But anyway, the
- 4:07Speaker 1: Seahawks bring it to within a score. Both teams would
- 4:10Speaker 1: trade punts, and the Seahawks do another great drive. 80 yards,
- 4:13Speaker 1: seven plays with yet another touchdown to who? Jackson Smith
- 4:16Speaker 1: and Jigwell. We're going to break that down a little
- 4:18Speaker 1: bit later. He's in an unreal run. I mean, best
- 4:21Speaker 1: receiver in football, though. Game was tied at 24.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah, the Commanders added a field goal on the next drive,
- 4:26Speaker 4: so they win it by three. Then disaster would strike
- 4:29Speaker 4: again for the Seahawks. Sam Browner was picked off by Kane. Medrano,
- 4:33Speaker 4: and he ran it back for a 50-yard pick-six. That
- 4:36Speaker 4: was his first game, I believe, too, that Medrano got in.
- 4:39Speaker 4: That made the score 33-24, but an unsportsmanlike penalty backed
- 4:44Speaker 4: up the extra point, which the Commanders missed, so that
- 4:46Speaker 4: helped us out in the end.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah, just an unfortunate play. Sam, I wish he had
- 4:50Speaker 1: that play back. They made a good play, too. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: think I listened to one of their post-game press conferences,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and they said, hey, they got us on that a
- 4:56Speaker 1: couple times earlier in the game, going back to that
- 4:58Speaker 1: check down. He missed a couple tackles beforehand. So they
- 5:01Speaker 1: knew they were going to go back to it. Some
- 5:02Speaker 1: pressure there. That happens. But this, honestly, if I take
- 5:06Speaker 1: anything away from the game, and maybe this is because
- 5:08Speaker 1: I'm a glass half full guy, this was one of
- 5:10Speaker 1: the most impressive series in drives you might ever see.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And we might not talk about it a lot ever
- 5:16Speaker 1: again because the Seahawks lost the game. But in that situation,
- 5:18Speaker 1: everyone's kind of thinking, okay, the game is over. Uh-huh.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, hold on a second. Give me a minute.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Because they go down five plays, 68 yards, ending with
- 5:27Speaker 1: Cooper Cupp's first touchdown of the season. That made the
- 5:30Speaker 1: score 33-31. But here's the drive chart. 18-yard pass to Jason.
- 5:33Speaker 1: 11-yard pass to Jason. 15-yard pass to Jason. 17-yard pass
- 5:37Speaker 1: to Torrey Horton. 7-yard touchdown to Cooper Cupp. They go
- 5:40Speaker 1: down in a minute or so. And it was just
- 5:42Speaker 1: impressive because it just shows you that Sam Darnold is unfazed.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Bad plays are going to happen. He bounced right back.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And that whole time, just throwing dots.
- 5:49Speaker 2: They know.
- 5:50Speaker 1: They're trying to stop Jason. It might not look like it,
- 5:53Speaker 1: but defenses are trying to stop this man. Even when
- 5:55Speaker 1: they knew he was getting the ball, they couldn't stop it.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I was just really impressed with how the Seahawks answered
- 5:58Speaker 1: in that moment. I love Sam Darnold in that moment.
- 6:01Speaker 4: And then I was also thinking the type of shape
- 6:04Speaker 4: that Jason is in, you know what I mean? Like,
- 6:06Speaker 4: come on, 18 yards, 11, 15, you're running back to
- 6:09Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage. People take that for granted. He,
- 6:11Speaker 4: and he didn't look tired.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I was going to say, he never looks like he's
- 6:13Speaker 2: out of breath ever.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Never looked tired, man. I was super impressive.
- 6:16Speaker 4: So, um, Yeah, so the Seahawks kicked off to the
- 6:21Speaker 4: Commanders with 2-51 remaining in the game with all three
- 6:24Speaker 4: timeouts and the two-minute warning.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So we're feeling good about this situation, right?
- 6:28Speaker 4: At this point, I think everyone watching expected the Seahawks
- 6:31Speaker 4: to get a stop, get the ball back on offense,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and go win the game. There was no doubt in
- 6:35Speaker 4: my mind that the Hawks were going to do exactly that.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean, especially with this defense, where they've been,
- 6:39Speaker 1: even without, you know, Ty Okada back there, even without
- 6:43Speaker 1: Julian Love, who's playing an all-pro level, those are huge
- 6:45Speaker 1: misses or, you know, gaps on the defense but they
- 6:47Speaker 1: are still playing well enough you think unfortunately in the
- 6:50Speaker 1: commanders two really good plays there's a third and eight.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I believe and then um a third and nine and
- 6:55Speaker 2: then a.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Third and seven looks like mariotta audibles to a run
- 6:59Speaker 1: play drake thomas almost looked like he might have got
- 7:02Speaker 1: held but he didn't get outside they get the first
- 7:03Speaker 1: down then they go back to his university of oregon
- 7:05Speaker 1: days a little rpo zone read action and he kept
- 7:09Speaker 1: the ball he hadn't kept it all day demarcus orange
- 7:11Speaker 1: talked about that he not kept it once throughout the
- 7:13Speaker 1: game saves it for that last play, and I think
- 7:15Speaker 1: they talked about it.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That's just great coaching. You know what I mean?
- 7:17Speaker 1: Like, obviously, I think the Seahawks get a stop there.
- 7:19Speaker 1: They're getting the ball back. Maybe DeMarcus Lawrence is playing
- 7:21Speaker 1: a little extra aggressive in that moment.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And Commanders, you got to tip your cap on that
- 7:26Speaker 2: one and say you made a hell of a play.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, man. That goes back to just basic football.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Sometimes making the play is not making the play, and
- 7:34Speaker 4: you can't knock a man for trying to make a
- 7:36Speaker 4: play at the same time. So you live and you learn, man,
- 7:39Speaker 4: and that will be it. They put the game away,
- 7:41Speaker 4: and the backup quarterback, But the Commanders got her done.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Well, the crazy thing is, too, the Seahawks outgained the
- 7:46Speaker 1: Commanders 437 to 258. Seahawks had 28 first downs. They
- 7:51Speaker 1: had 17. Three turnovers led to 21 points. That's the
- 7:55Speaker 1: game bump, in my opinion. That's what it was. Definitely
- 7:58Speaker 1: a game Seahawks could have won, like I said. But
- 7:59Speaker 1: it's the international football. That's how things happen. You're not
- 8:02Speaker 1: going to get them all bumped. But what's the biggest
- 8:04Speaker 1: takeaway you had? What did you learn from this game?
- 8:06Speaker 3: I learned that Sam Darnold is one of the best
- 8:08Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the game. Legit. I know people are going
- 8:12Speaker 3: to look at those interceptions. One, fluke. The other one, hey,
- 8:16Speaker 3: made a mistake.
- 8:17Speaker 4: But the way that Sam Darnold played, the throws that
- 8:19Speaker 4: he made, if you go back and watch the All-22,
- 8:23Speaker 4: I'm so confident in Sam Darnold right now.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I was impressed.
- 8:26Speaker 4: It's crazy. It didn't impress me more than the Thursday night,
- 8:29Speaker 4: of course. That was awesome.
- 8:30Speaker 3: But this is right up there with me, or with it.
- 8:33Speaker 4: It's just the composure that he had and to come
- 8:35Speaker 4: back from throwing that interception, go down the field and
- 8:37Speaker 4: get her done.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Sam.
- 8:40Speaker 4: If he ain't in top 10 right now, I don't
- 8:41Speaker 4: know what else he's got to do.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, then you're just not watching the tape if you
- 8:44Speaker 1: feel that way. And what I love, too, about that
- 8:46Speaker 1: bump is, like, again, he's unfazed in those moments. And
- 8:51Speaker 1: that's the leader of the football team. That's what you
- 8:53Speaker 1: want to see from that. And I just love how
- 8:54Speaker 1: the team rallied around him. And you're 1,000% right. I
- 8:57Speaker 1: think Sam is playing at elite level. And people forget
- 9:00Speaker 1: that was essentially his first game.
- 9:01Speaker 2: First game.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Did not play in the preseason. Played five snaps against
- 9:05Speaker 1: the Patriots. Like, people understand, since the Super Bowl.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And he went out there and did what he did.
- 9:10Speaker 1: To your point, I love what we saw from Sam Darnold,
- 9:12Speaker 1: which is a great segue into Playmakers.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Touchdown, Seahawks! Playmakers.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Show them what time it is! Holy catfish!
- 9:25Speaker 1: Well, where are we going to start? Of course, Sam Darnold, 31-45,
- 9:28Speaker 1: 379 bump. That's a career-high in passing yards. Four touchdowns,
- 9:33Speaker 1: two picks, sacked zero times. But like we just mentioned,
- 9:35Speaker 1: a lot of that was him doing his thing on
- 9:37Speaker 1: his feet, avoiding touchdowns. Almost felt like guaranteed sacks when
- 9:39Speaker 1: he was dead to rights, doing his thing. QB rating
- 9:42Speaker 1: of 105.7. And like I just said, really his first
- 9:45Speaker 1: game of the year. So big ups to Sam Darnold.
- 9:47Speaker 1: He would tell you he could play better, but he's
- 9:49Speaker 1: playing at.
- 9:50Speaker 2: A high level.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah, sure is, man.
- 9:51Speaker 4: And because he's playing at a high level, this guy's
- 9:54Speaker 4: playing at a high level. Jackson Smith and Jigba. Ten receptions, 128-14.
- 10:00Speaker 4: 14 targets, two touchdowns. And he also threw the ball
- 10:03Speaker 4: one for one, 14 yards. Listen, and that wasn't easy
- 10:05Speaker 4: to throw.
- 10:06Speaker 3: All right.
- 10:07Speaker 4: He had defender right in his face. First, he faked
- 10:09Speaker 4: like he was throwing down the field and then had
- 10:11Speaker 4: to go lateral. Defenders there threw it, got hit.
- 10:14Speaker 3: And still delivered. So, yeah, I'm gassing him up. I
- 10:16Speaker 3: don't care.
- 10:17Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Hey, so let's get back to the run that he's having.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Jackson Smith and Jigba has had 120 receiving yards and
- 10:26Speaker 4: at least one receiving TD in each of his team's
- 10:29Speaker 4: first three games. The only other player to accomplish that
- 10:32Speaker 4: in NFL history, Jerry. I ain't got to say his
- 10:34Speaker 4: last name.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Jerry.
- 10:36Speaker 4: JSN is one of two players in NFL history to
- 10:38Speaker 4: have 400 plus receiving yards and six plus touchdowns in
- 10:41Speaker 4: the first three games of a season.
- 10:43Speaker 3: The other player, Marvin. I ain't got to say his
- 10:45Speaker 3: last name. Marvin.
- 10:46Speaker 4: That's who my man is rocking with right now. Incredible
- 10:49Speaker 4: season so far.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's honestly, every minute of the day, more
- 10:52Speaker 1: stats about Jason come up about what list he's on.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We could go for hours about what he's doing. So, yes,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he's in another world right now. And the thing we mentioned, low-key,
- 11:02Speaker 1: no one talks about the shape that he's in. Doesn't
- 11:04Speaker 1: look like he's ever tired. The way he, even.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Down to the way he celebrates, he's not in somebody's face.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He does it differently.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Like, Jason is a special dude, and it would frustrate
- 11:14Speaker 1: the hell out of me follows the defensive back trying
- 11:16Speaker 1: to cover that.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah it's almost impossible you just gotta hope he makes
- 11:19Speaker 3: a mistake.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Exactly and then cooper cup i really love seeing this
- 11:23Speaker 1: four receptions 46 yards a touchdown not crazy you know
- 11:26Speaker 1: stats out there but it's good to see him get
- 11:28Speaker 1: in the end zone do his thing he got held
- 11:30Speaker 1: a bunch that they just didn't.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Call sorry i'm still out there anyway good good work coop.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Aj had his best game of the season five receptions
- 11:37Speaker 4: for 69 yards a 32 yard scamper run after the
- 11:40Speaker 4: catch he had and then Leo, man. Three tackles, two TFLs,
- 11:44Speaker 4: one sack. I believe he has a sack in every
- 11:45Speaker 4: game now. Three quarterback hits. Leo doing his thing.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll power rush you, then he'll swim you.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Even when things aren't going the Seahawks way, 99 is
- 11:55Speaker 1: going to find a way to keep making plays. And
- 11:56Speaker 1: then Derek Hall, shout out to him. Four tackles, one TFL,
- 11:59Speaker 1: one sack, two quarterback hits. It's not often you see
- 12:03Speaker 1: the Seahawks giving up points in the 30s. It just
- 12:05Speaker 1: does not happen very often. Obviously, there's a pick six
- 12:08Speaker 1: in there and some turnovers that contributed to that, but
- 12:11Speaker 1: It was what it was. Bump, what did you see
- 12:13Speaker 1: from the receiving core again? A little bit more diverse
- 12:16Speaker 1: in the receptions this week.
- 12:17Speaker 4: This is the most diversified it's been all year. You
- 12:20Speaker 4: got JSM with 128 and two touchdowns. Barnum with 69.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Torrey Horton, glad to see that young man out there.
- 12:26Speaker 4: He had three for 48. George Helani had five for 48.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Cup had four for 46. Brady had a big one,
- 12:32Speaker 4: one for 20. Rasheed Shaheed had two for 14. Eric Sabat,
- 12:35Speaker 4: one for 13. And Jadarian Price, one for seven. Lots
- 12:39Speaker 4: of different names on this list.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I'd love to see it.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, no, shout out Eric Saubert getting in the end zone.
- 12:43Speaker 1: He's one of the dudes that if everyone knows this
- 12:45Speaker 1: man on every team, does the dirty work, is in
- 12:47Speaker 1: there blocking every play. So love to see Saubert getting
- 12:50Speaker 1: in the end zone. That'll take us to our plays
- 12:52Speaker 1: of the game. This first one, we're looking at Sam
- 12:54Speaker 1: Darnold finding Jason for an 11-yard touchdown.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Four-man rush by Washington. The look to throw inside.
- 13:01Speaker 5: It's caught.
- 13:02Speaker 3: It's a touchdown.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Seahawks. JSN says, throw a flag on me. I'll show you.
- 13:08Speaker 5: I'll catch an 11-yard dart from Sam Darnall. He does
- 13:12Speaker 5: under the goalpost. Seattle is a point away from tying
- 13:15Speaker 5: it up.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so we got two receivers to the left. That's
- 13:19Speaker 4: Arroyo in the slot with JSN outside. You got a
- 13:22Speaker 4: receiver up top. You got Rasheed Shaheed and then a
- 13:24Speaker 4: tight end attached to the line of scrimmage.
- 13:27Speaker 3: And Sam Darnold is in shotgun.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Looks like it's a four deep type situation. So we're
- 13:31Speaker 4: just running a double post concept, right? The thing that
- 13:33Speaker 4: makes this work, whenever you are in a slot and
- 13:36Speaker 4: you're running a post, if you have a too high safety,
- 13:38Speaker 4: you cross the face of one. One high safety, you
- 13:41Speaker 4: try to go behind him. If Arroyo ran this the
- 13:44Speaker 4: wrong way, Jason isn't catching his football. And Sam Darnold
- 13:49Speaker 4: is going to have to work to the right side.
- 13:51Speaker 4: So you got a double post. Arroyo gets on the
- 13:53Speaker 4: safety toes, crosses his face. JSN's running a post as well,
- 13:56Speaker 4: widens at the top, puts that left foot in the ground,
- 13:58Speaker 4: and then Sam Darnold throws another dart right where JSN
- 14:02Speaker 4: could get it. Simple concept, but if one person doesn't
- 14:05Speaker 4: do the right thing on this deal, JSN's not getting
- 14:07Speaker 4: this football.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's not even a lot to add because
- 14:09Speaker 1: it's just Chris. Sam Darnold, that's an absolute dot. Looking
- 14:12Speaker 1: at Arroyo, goes to his next read, kind of holding
- 14:14Speaker 1: the safeties in place there. I mean, that ball can't
- 14:17Speaker 1: be anywhere else. It's honestly not bad coverage. It's just
- 14:20Speaker 1: a better throw and a better route and all the
- 14:22Speaker 1: things that happen in Those two are on a different
- 14:25Speaker 1: level of connection right now.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's really special to see. It's not the
- 14:29Speaker 1: same way, but, like, you think of greats like Peyton
- 14:32Speaker 1: Manning and Marvin Harrison, how they could go through their
- 14:34Speaker 1: whole pregame routine without talking.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I almost feel like Darnold and JSN are in that
- 14:40Speaker 1: kind of category because, like, hey, I know where you're
- 14:42Speaker 1: going to be. I'm throwing the ball most of the
- 14:43Speaker 1: time before JSN breaks. That's just what those two are on.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So I love what we're seeing there. Not a lot
- 14:49Speaker 1: to add there, just two guys doing their thing. Next,
- 14:51Speaker 1: we're going to look at Cooper Cupps' touchdown. First of
- 14:54Speaker 1: the season.
- 14:55Speaker 5: Wide receiver to each side. Cooper Cup now shifts over
- 14:58Speaker 5: to the right side.
- 14:59Speaker 3: With Price in the backfield.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Darnold takes the snap.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Looks.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Snaps off the throw.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Easy.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Pitch and catch. Touchdown Seahawks.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Cooper Cup just ran a little out route to the
- 15:10Speaker 5: front corner of.
- 15:10Speaker 3: The end zone.
- 15:11Speaker 5: And the two defenders for Washington just looked at each other.
- 15:15Speaker 5: And Sam just snapped off a quick throw. Touchdown Seahawks.
- 15:18Speaker 3: We're within three.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Well, we know his man because you start off with
- 15:23Speaker 4: three receivers to the left, Jason motions to the right,
- 15:25Speaker 4: he brings a guy with him. This is just the
- 15:28Speaker 4: effect of Jason. This is what he does to defenses.
- 15:32Speaker 4: He confuses the heck out of people. They're so scared
- 15:35Speaker 4: and they react a certain way. So he goes over
- 15:37Speaker 4: to the right side. Now he's almost in a stack
- 15:39Speaker 4: with Cooper Cup. He got safety help over the top,
- 15:42Speaker 4: got a corner on the outside and a defender on
- 15:44Speaker 4: the inside. So what we call, when I was growing up,
- 15:47Speaker 4: we called it a Cali. So it's when the DB's
- 15:50Speaker 4: responsibility is all contingent on what the receivers do, especially
- 15:54Speaker 4: when they're close in a stack like that. One guy
- 15:56Speaker 4: has first guy out, one guy has first guy in,
- 15:58Speaker 4: one guy has first guy vertical. It's, you typically only
- 16:01Speaker 4: run this type of coverage with a veteran backfield because
- 16:05Speaker 4: the communication has to be on point. So what happens
- 16:07Speaker 4: is JSN releases vertical, takes two guys with him, Cooper
- 16:10Speaker 4: Cup runs an out, easy money, scared of 11.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean, I would be. Listen, and it,
- 16:17Speaker 1: And sometimes it's hard when you're backed up into the
- 16:19Speaker 1: goal line. Things get tight down there for offenses. But
- 16:22Speaker 1: even for defense, because everyone will say, why don't you
- 16:24Speaker 1: just double them?
- 16:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:25Speaker 1: It's not as easy as people think it is because
- 16:28Speaker 1: you have 10 other guys on the field. There's other
- 16:30Speaker 1: things that you've got to do. But, yeah, no, this
- 16:32Speaker 1: is just, I mean, I want to see more of this,
- 16:35Speaker 1: and I think we're going to see more of this
- 16:36Speaker 1: moving forward of just guys being wide open because teams
- 16:39Speaker 1: are going to say, like, you know what, I'm.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Throwing my hands in the air. Jason's not going for
- 16:44Speaker 2: 150 and three tuts.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I'm not doing it.
- 16:47Speaker 1: This play, though, I just think, to your point, I
- 16:48Speaker 1: don't know if they communicate. It looks like the corner
- 16:51Speaker 1: is still trying to get over the top, almost like
- 16:53Speaker 1: a basketball screen. And I think JSN, on top of
- 16:55Speaker 1: him not getting the ball, he also makes this play
- 16:57Speaker 1: happen because I think he realizes he's like, okay, this
- 17:00Speaker 1: guy's trying to go over the top. I'm going to
- 17:01Speaker 1: continue to stay because he could have cut it off
- 17:03Speaker 1: or done whatever he's going to do. Now I'm going
- 17:05Speaker 1: to make sure this guy doesn't make the play, a
- 17:06Speaker 1: little basketball screen we talked about, and it's all she wrote.
- 17:09Speaker 1: These guys are playing good football offensively. That's why I
- 17:13Speaker 1: think there's nothing to worry about bump in terms of
- 17:15Speaker 1: how this team is playing. and what we saw, but
- 17:17Speaker 1: this is weird, but we usually go to our favorite formation,
- 17:21Speaker 1: victory formation. This is the first time we're not seeing
- 17:23Speaker 1: a victory formation out of the Seahawks.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Cause the clock just ran out, man.
- 17:30Speaker 3: They're just going to let the clock wind down.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Not even going to bother taking that last time out.
- 17:36Speaker 1: First time since November of 2025, the Seahawks did not
- 17:40Speaker 1: get a victory formation. So neither can we clock just
- 17:42Speaker 1: ran out. 12 game win streak is over. this game
- 17:45Speaker 1: started slow for the Seahawks and they're kind of playing
- 17:47Speaker 1: catch up for the rest of the game. They outgained
- 17:49Speaker 1: the commanders by 179 yards held in the three of
- 17:52Speaker 1: 13 on third down, but just couldn't get it done.
- 17:54Speaker 4: But yeah, man, it's, you know, it's unfortunate, but again, man,
- 17:59Speaker 4: you respect the opponent. You know, the one thing that
- 18:01Speaker 4: I loved about the post game is that no one
- 18:04Speaker 4: sounded like they were panicking.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Not Mike, not Ernest, not Sam. They're like, yeah, they
- 18:09Speaker 3: got us. All right. They got us.
- 18:10Speaker 4: We got some things we got to fix. And I,
- 18:12Speaker 4: That's what he's going to do. If you turn the
- 18:13Speaker 4: ball over three times, you know, things are going to
- 18:15Speaker 4: be like that. When you only rush for 44 yards,
- 18:17Speaker 4: it's going to be like that. But it wasn't all bad.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Sam looked great in his return.
- 18:20Speaker 3: He looked healthy. He was moving.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Threw for 379 and four touchdowns. And then Jason, it
- 18:25Speaker 4: just continues to dominate. I didn't think he'd go for
- 18:28Speaker 4: a buck 20 again. I thought maybe he'd get a
- 18:31Speaker 4: little 80, a little 70 in a touchdown. But no, man, 128,
- 18:33Speaker 4: two of them things, he's doing his thing.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean, and he had an uncharacteristic drop.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah, two. Well, it was kind of low. You know,
- 18:41Speaker 3: I'll give him that. But, yeah, he had two.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So, I mean, he's there on an unreal pace. Yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: it wasn't– the game was not what you hoped for
- 18:48Speaker 1: as a Seahawks fan. There's obvious things to improve. You
- 18:50Speaker 1: mentioned it. You know, short yardage situations, running the football,
- 18:54Speaker 1: not do great in the red zone in that standpoint.
- 18:56Speaker 1: You know, turnovers. But they're in a good spot. This
- 18:59Speaker 1: team has been absolutely dominant for almost a year now.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And it's the NFL. Things are going to happen. But
- 19:06Speaker 1: you mentioned how no one panicked postgame. If you're around
- 19:09Speaker 1: this building and you were downstairs, you would not know
- 19:12Speaker 1: if the Seahawks won or lost. The feeling that you
- 19:14Speaker 1: saw during that 12-game win streak versus today is the
- 19:17Speaker 1: exact same, and that's just a testament to what Coach McDonald,
- 19:20Speaker 1: John Steyer, what everyone has built here. Seahawks are going
- 19:22Speaker 1: to be just fine. They're going to welcome in an
- 19:25Speaker 1: 0-3 Chargers team, and the Seahawks have a tough stretch
- 19:27Speaker 1: after that.
- 19:27Speaker 2: You have Niners. You have Broncos. You have Chiefs.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Obviously, you're taking one game at a time, but the
- 19:33Speaker 1: Seahawks are entering a big stretch, but I think they're
- 19:35Speaker 1: going to get right this week against the Chargers. Everyone
- 19:38Speaker 1: downstairs is going to be ready to go. Veterans are
- 19:40Speaker 1: going to have a chip on their shoulder. What did
- 19:41Speaker 1: Ernest say? They're going to be beating each other up
- 19:43Speaker 1: on Wednesday, and then they're going to be loving each
- 19:45Speaker 1: other up Thursday and get ready to go for the weekend.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So we'll see what goes down. Seahawks, we'll get you.
- 19:50Speaker 2: ready for that.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Take it on the Chargers this week as the Seahawks
- 19:52Speaker 1: come back to Lumen Field. Unfortunately, the Seahawks did fall
- 19:54Speaker 1: to the Commanders over the weekend. We'll be talking about
- 19:57Speaker 1: the Chargers on Thursday. He's Michael Bummis from Nassau Chobie.
- 20:00Speaker 1: This has been Hawk Talk.
