- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, guys.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Clyde Confidential. Today, I
- 0:10Speaker 2: have two very important, amazing guests of mine. I'm going
- 0:16Speaker 2: to do that again.
- 0:17Speaker 1: That was so weird.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm so tired.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But don't edit this out. Do the reboot right now.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's okay. I'm right there with you today.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm so dead.
- 0:26Speaker 1: You know what? She has Heather McMahon, comedian, actress extraordinaire,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and Christina Tompkins, HBIC, Thotiana, the queen of getting shit done,
- 0:36Speaker 1: producer extraordinaire, and generational talent.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Wow.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Thank you for saving my tired ass. Jesus. Hello, everyone,
- 0:45Speaker 2: and welcome back.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's okay. It's at that point where, you know, when
- 0:49Speaker 1: you've been yapping all day, and it's like, I don't
- 0:52Speaker 1: even know what I'm saying anymore. Does anybody care?
- 0:54Speaker 3: No.
- 0:54Speaker 2: No. I mean, I literally have no excuse to be tired.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I just flew from New York yesterday.
- 1:00Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 1:00Speaker 2: And I slept until 11.30 this morning.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Good for you.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So I got like 10 hours and I'm still, like
- 1:06Speaker 2: you have an excuse to be tired. It's Emmys.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's Emmys week. But I'm so proud of myself. Last
- 1:11Speaker 1: night I only had two glasses of champagne because I
- 1:13Speaker 1: knew I had an early call time today. And I'm still,
- 1:17Speaker 1: two glasses of champagne and a Diet Coke and I
- 1:19Speaker 1: still have a headache and like a sweat. through my
- 1:21Speaker 1: clothes all day, like the cortisol's bad. I don't, I'm
- 1:23Speaker 1: not well.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's not supposed to be this hot in LA, I'm sorry.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It is sweltering. So Tina's thriving in New York, I'm
- 1:29Speaker 1: in LA, and we're just bi-coastal gals.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And where is Ray? Is Ray, Ray is still in
- 1:36Speaker 2: the mix, yeah?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Ray's still in the mix. Ray is, well he
- 1:38Speaker 1: actually just texted me, I'm not even kidding, you three
- 1:41Speaker 1: minutes ago, and he goes, is it bad that I
- 1:43Speaker 1: still crave Chipotle? And I said, that's all I want
- 1:45Speaker 1: right now is that vinaigrette dressing. I might go to
- 1:47Speaker 1: Chipotle after this.
- 1:48Speaker 3: So funny.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Was he your assistant at one point?
- 1:52Speaker 1: No, God no.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Why did I think that?
- 1:54Speaker 1: No, Ray is a liability. Are you kidding me? No,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Ray and I met about 10 years ago working at SoulCycle,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and we worked at the front desk. That's why, because
- 2:02Speaker 1: every year we work together. And Ray is one of
- 2:05Speaker 1: my best friends, and he's so funny. And Ray, when
- 2:07Speaker 1: I started touring, I think it was after my second tour,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I said, Ray, you're so funny. I know you want
- 2:14Speaker 1: to get into it. Come and open on the road.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And I feel so blessed that I get to like
- 2:18Speaker 1: travel with my friends and we get to giggle. So
- 2:21Speaker 1: Ray's a very talented comedian. And Tina and I met
- 2:24Speaker 1: in college as theater majors. And we both met at
- 2:29Speaker 1: the first day of Cattle Call. We were auditioning for
- 2:32Speaker 1: Rocky Horror Picture Show. And she had a very cute
- 2:35Speaker 1: outfit on. She had a madras belt. No, madras skirt.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Was it a braided belt?
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah. like a leather braided belt and a baby pink
- 2:45Speaker 3: Lacoste polo.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Baby pink. I think it was like, it may have
- 2:48Speaker 1: been double layered, popped.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And I went up to her and I tried to
- 2:52Speaker 1: make a joke because Christina is a Broadway singer. She
- 2:55Speaker 1: has done multiple tours on, on the Broadway.
- 2:58Speaker 2: No way.
- 2:59Speaker 1: She's incredibly talented. And so.
- 3:01Speaker 3: In my past life, yes.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: No, she's, Tina, let me tell you, Tina is so
- 3:06Speaker 1: talented and I think you'll be on the Broadway in
- 3:09Speaker 1: like a couple years, but you're smart because Tina's so
- 3:12Speaker 1: smart that she's now in those years where she's like,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I want to produce and be a part of the
- 3:16Speaker 1: creative process in a way where it's like she's calling
- 3:19Speaker 1: the shots. You know? Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 3: You can always go back to it.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yes. Hell yeah. Or write your own musical.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I can't believe you're a singer.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Is that going to be the next act on tour?
- 3:31Speaker 3: Right. And then, so originally when we were in the
- 3:33Speaker 3: farewell tour, the first time Heather had a show in
- 3:36Speaker 3: New York city at town hall, we were like, what's
- 3:39Speaker 3: a fun thing like to open the show with. And
- 3:42Speaker 3: we got like a little music together and I did
- 3:46Speaker 3: like a, you know, three minute opening where we would sing, um,
- 3:51Speaker 3: a jazzy version of my neck, my back into hello, uh,
- 3:57Speaker 3: Dolly but it's Hello Heather and the lyrics were sort
- 4:00Speaker 3: of I wrote rewrote them and I would bring her
- 4:01Speaker 3: to the stage and it was really fun um and
- 4:04Speaker 3: yeah I used to tour with like Broadway shows I've
- 4:07Speaker 3: been to China with a Broadway show it's very crazy
- 4:10Speaker 3: but love it loved it I loved being a performer
- 4:13Speaker 3: obviously who it it's the best but really to like
- 4:18Speaker 3: pay the bills when you're on Broadway is pretty tough
- 4:20Speaker 3: because those shows close very quickly all the time so
- 4:24Speaker 3: I've I mean, working with Heather is just fell, we
- 4:27Speaker 3: fell into it very easily because we both, when we
- 4:31Speaker 3: were at Ole Miss, we were both, I was getting
- 4:32Speaker 3: a degree in musical theater. She was getting a degree
- 4:35Speaker 3: in theater and we, you know, we're acting together, doing
- 4:37Speaker 3: shows together, moved to New York together to like pursue
- 4:40Speaker 3: the dream. So we know each other's work ethic and
- 4:45Speaker 3: habits and our hustle. Like we know that very, like
- 4:48Speaker 3: without speaking, we know how to like get the shit done,
- 4:52Speaker 3: if that makes sense.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the thing. It's like Tina, I feel like,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I mean, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Are we in a therapy session? But no. Like we
- 5:00Speaker 1: trust each other implicitly. Like we're old friends. You're my sister.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Tina's like if I need a kidney, if she needs
- 5:06Speaker 1: a kidney, we're calling each other.
- 5:07Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like if you need to
- 5:08Speaker 2: kill someone.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're marrying a body. Like we're calling her.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But it's true.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Like Tina was running a lot of the show when
- 5:14Speaker 1: she was on her tours and I was building my
- 5:16Speaker 1: comedy career and we both kind of like had moved
- 5:19Speaker 1: back to New York at the same time or she
- 5:20Speaker 1: was coming back to New York and my career was
- 5:22Speaker 1: just starting to take off in a weird way. And
- 5:24Speaker 1: I was like, Tina, come help me. I need you.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I think I begged. I was like, please come help me.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You're so smart. Because she gets it. She understands the hustle.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And this is the thing, a lot of people, what
- 5:34Speaker 1: I do is completely different than just acting. Yeah, if
- 5:37Speaker 1: you're shooting something on set, you're in Vancouver for fucking
- 5:40Speaker 1: four months or whatever. Can I curse on this podcast? Okay, great.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But touring is a totally different beast. And Tina's been
- 5:47Speaker 1: on these, you know, she toured with the Sound of
- 5:48Speaker 1: Music forever. She understands the grind. She knows that world.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And it's very, it's so specific to how they're like,
- 5:56Speaker 3: obviously now is a pro old pro, but like people
- 6:00Speaker 3: that come on the road and see it for the
- 6:02Speaker 3: first time, they're like, wait, what is happening backstage at
- 6:05Speaker 3: a theater? How are there already just 10 dudes on
- 6:09Speaker 3: this stage? You don't realize how many people are just
- 6:11Speaker 3: there when you show up and you're like, okay, we
- 6:13Speaker 3: got to get this whole show in. We need to
- 6:15Speaker 3: load in a thousand people to see you and give
- 6:17Speaker 3: them like, hopefully the night of their life. Right. So,
- 6:20Speaker 3: It is, it's pretty cool to see that and to
- 6:23Speaker 3: have been together. I mean, now we're almost 40 years old,
- 6:27Speaker 3: so it's almost more than half our life we've known
- 6:31Speaker 3: each other. Yeah. Or it might be now.
- 6:33Speaker 1: But we were laughing off camera before we started recording
- 6:36Speaker 1: that by day, whenever we're on the road, we're on
- 6:38Speaker 1: a trip, by day three, we always meet in the
- 6:41Speaker 1: hotel lobby to like fly to the next spot and
- 6:43Speaker 1: we're in the same outfit. We are morphing into each
- 6:46Speaker 1: other slowly and.
- 6:47Speaker 2: It is, I just chopped my hair off.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I had a manic spiral the other day being like,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I need something new and fresh. And then I sent
- 6:55Speaker 1: it to Tina. I'm like, Tina, now we look exactly
- 6:57Speaker 1: the same. It looks amazing. I love it.
- 6:59Speaker 2: It looks amazing.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We needed a fresh job.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And I still have extensions in.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Thank you, Megan.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Well, listen, the hair extensions were sort of like a
- 7:08Speaker 3: part of like this whole period of your life. And
- 7:11Speaker 3: now I think with the new special coming out and
- 7:14Speaker 3: like leaving, you know, you're starting a new journey. It's
- 7:17Speaker 3: a new time.
- 7:18Speaker 1: New journey, doing the most.
- 7:19Speaker 2: When does the new special come out?
- 7:21Speaker 1: The new special comes out on Hulu October 16th. We're
- 7:25Speaker 1: a month out. We're a month out, yeah. And Tina
- 7:28Speaker 1: was one of the executive producers on it, and she
- 7:30Speaker 1: produces the tour, which is like you need somebody, and
- 7:34Speaker 1: it's so crucial because she has a theater background. She
- 7:36Speaker 1: knows how to go into a theater. And it's really
- 7:39Speaker 1: wild because, like, we'll go do shows, and then we'll
- 7:41Speaker 1: go back to these theaters, and they're like, you have
- 7:43Speaker 1: no idea. Y'all run a different ship than when other
- 7:46Speaker 1: people come in, like other acts, like, we're all just
- 7:48Speaker 1: very trying to be like insanely professional when it comes
- 7:51Speaker 1: to like understanding the theater world. Theater world is different
- 7:54Speaker 1: than movie set world. Movie set world. And it's different
- 7:57Speaker 1: than just like clubs. And even clubs.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Totally. And I think that's one thing that sets
- 8:02Speaker 3: Heather apart. Like you said, you're not just one thing.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Like I do. Heather is like the ultimate old school entertainer.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Like she, yes, she does podcasting. Yes, she does stand up. Yes,
- 8:13Speaker 3: she's an act. Like there's so many facets. It is like,
- 8:15Speaker 3: looking back at what Joan Rivers was doing and like,
- 8:18Speaker 3: how do you make that the 2026 version, the 2027
- 8:22Speaker 3: version of a Joan Rivers? And how do you get
- 8:24Speaker 3: that to the next level? That's what I feel like
- 8:27Speaker 3: we try to work on all the time.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And Tina and I are good because she's got New
- 8:31Speaker 1: York energy. She's a, you know, she and my husband
- 8:33Speaker 1: grew up together too. So let's also plug that. I
- 8:35Speaker 1: met my husband through Tina. Cause they, they used to
- 8:38Speaker 1: ride on the bus together to school. She's known him
- 8:40Speaker 1: since you were what?
- 8:41Speaker 3: Six.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 3: We were in kindergarten together and he has a twin sister, uh,
- 8:45Speaker 3: who I was in his class, but the mom would
- 8:47Speaker 3: be like, you need to play with the sister. So
- 8:50Speaker 3: we were all in the same bus, same neighborhood. So
- 8:54Speaker 3: it's very incestual. I lived at the house for a
- 8:58Speaker 3: few months.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I can't believe you met your husband through Tina.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:03Speaker 1: That's crazy. Really, really wild. So they're like brother and
- 9:06Speaker 1: sister too. And we all like fight like brother and sister.
- 9:09Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Or we're all like, well,
- 9:10Speaker 1: shut up, bullshit, whatever. Like in a loving way.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I mean, it's so much time on the road and
- 9:14Speaker 2: like so intimate. So obviously you guys knew each other
- 9:18Speaker 2: for so long. So she was one of your first
- 9:19Speaker 2: thoughts for hiring. She knew the theater world. She knew
- 9:21Speaker 2: how to be on tour. It is so hard for
- 9:24Speaker 2: some other clients to find that person who you can
- 9:26Speaker 2: spend that much time with, who you can be on
- 9:28Speaker 2: the road with, who's like in front of your family.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Obviously like this feels like a perfect fit for you gals,
- 9:34Speaker 2: but it would not work for everyone working with a friend.
- 9:36Speaker 1: No, it wouldn't. I mean, listen, we have days, you know, where, but,
- 9:39Speaker 1: but I think the good thing is, is it's almost again,
- 9:41Speaker 1: like we're married.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So you didn't, I feel like I have good communication,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you know? And like, and I know when she needs
- 9:46Speaker 1: a break, you know, I'm like, all right. Vice versa.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, of course. And I think to your point, it
- 9:52Speaker 3: is such a delicate balance of like how I know
- 9:57Speaker 3: Robin as well as I do. I think it's, someone
- 10:00Speaker 3: that's so important to Heather and to have like the
- 10:03Speaker 3: care when you're treating other people's family members especially like
- 10:07Speaker 3: your mom really like loves you loves that you're a
- 10:10Speaker 3: part of entertaining and wants to also entertain herself and
- 10:15Speaker 3: also having that ability to be as close I think
- 10:18Speaker 3: is is a blessing uh that most people don't get
- 10:22Speaker 3: to have like you'd have to explain like try to
- 10:25Speaker 3: explain robin to somebody fresh off the street would be
- 10:30Speaker 3: wild did.
- 10:30Speaker 1: She come on tour too no god no i mean
- 10:32Speaker 1: she'll come to like every you know a fun show
- 10:35Speaker 1: but i don't think people realize and i it's definitely
- 10:37Speaker 1: different for male comedians but a woman a woman's responsibility
- 10:41Speaker 1: being on the road and i listen i don't have
- 10:44Speaker 1: kids so it's a different situation but When I get
- 10:46Speaker 1: off the road and my family's there, I'm still tapped
- 10:49Speaker 1: into that maternal instinct of like, how am I feeding everybody?
- 10:51Speaker 1: What are we doing? You still have to like run
- 10:54Speaker 1: the show. And so people always ask like, does Jeff
- 10:57Speaker 1: come to every show? I'm like, he comes to the
- 10:58Speaker 1: fun ones, but he learned like after the first year
- 11:01Speaker 1: I said, when I get off stage, you better have
- 11:03Speaker 1: ordered dinner. Don't then ask me. I just perform and
- 11:05Speaker 1: be like, what are we eating? Toots? Like, no, I've
- 11:08Speaker 1: just worked.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Um, but he'll feed the dogs. Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He'll feed the dogs. Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And I mean, we have a really good time. Um,
- 11:15Speaker 1: but it is, it is nice having, when we work together,
- 11:17Speaker 1: like we just know what we like, know what we need.
- 11:20Speaker 3: And, um, now we're also very efficient at an airport.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Like we know our way through an airport and when
- 11:27Speaker 3: other people come in and it's like, um, do you
- 11:31Speaker 3: have everything ready, prepared to go through this as quickly
- 11:34Speaker 3: as possible and make it so painless? We're, We definitely
- 11:38Speaker 3: will leave you in the dust, I think. You got it.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Down to a science. Yeah, we're Delta girls.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah, we're professional travelers. We're Delta girls. Yeah. And that's
- 11:47Speaker 1: the thing, too, is, like, you know, whoever we, and
- 11:49Speaker 1: my other buddy Andrew comes on the road, and obviously
- 11:51Speaker 1: Tina Ray and I are, like, best friends. And so
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's been fun having him on the road, too, because
- 11:56Speaker 1: he's just kind of, like, this fish out of water,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but also blends in seamlessly with the girls, you know?
- 12:01Speaker 1: And you gotta have thick skin. When you come with us,
- 12:04Speaker 1: we're all razzing each other. It's really like a positive,
- 12:07Speaker 1: fun vibe. I mean, at least I hope I can
- 12:10Speaker 1: build that space of like, listen, let's break down what
- 12:13Speaker 1: we're doing. It's fucking comedy. We are not, it should not, yes,
- 12:17Speaker 1: there's stressful moments, there's travel hiccups and shit, but at
- 12:19Speaker 1: the end of the day, there's nothing that we can't solve.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We're not out here doing heart transplants.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Totally, right. And right now there's no assistant in the mix,
- 12:26Speaker 2: but that is something that has been on the mind
- 12:28Speaker 2: for a little bit, which we've talked about previously. So
- 12:31Speaker 2: when do you think that person will enter the chat?
- 12:33Speaker 1: And yeah, I'll be very candid. The problem with the
- 12:37Speaker 1: having the assistant nowadays is, It's like you're wearing three
- 12:40Speaker 1: different hats. You need an assistant who can really do
- 12:42Speaker 1: social media and you need an assistant who you can
- 12:46Speaker 1: also kind of trust implicitly. And I feel like with Tina,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I always say, I'm like, yeah, we want to bring
- 12:51Speaker 1: people in, but who the fuck, you know? And I
- 12:52Speaker 1: don't mean to say like, you can't trust people, but
- 12:55Speaker 1: it is a little tough where you're like, It's a lot.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Because my family is so around. My mom's around.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think it's different because you're not in
- 13:04Speaker 3: LA or New York City. Having the Atlanta factor of
- 13:09Speaker 3: it where everyone knows each other is also intimidating. I
- 13:12Speaker 3: think it's intimidating where it's like you say one thing
- 13:15Speaker 3: and you also maybe don't want it to get back
- 13:18Speaker 3: to anybody or whatever. And obviously there's NDAs and all
- 13:21Speaker 3: of that. But I think we also haven't found a
- 13:25Speaker 3: breath to think like sit back and hopefully soon we'll
- 13:29Speaker 3: all be able to like see moving forward and building
- 13:32Speaker 3: more and bigger. Like where do we find that missing
- 13:35Speaker 3: puzzle piece? So we can keep growing. Like we have
- 13:39Speaker 3: the next cruise in 2027 and hopefully.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You know, we're definitely bringing, we need all hands on deck.
- 13:45Speaker 1: No pun intended for that.
- 13:47Speaker 2: This is the second time you guys have done the cruise, right?
- 13:49Speaker 1: The second time we've done the cruise and Tina runs
- 13:52Speaker 1: the entire cruise. And so we need, we definitely need
- 13:55Speaker 1: Tina to have a full time and I need somebody good.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And that might be a Robin Wrangler where literally we
- 14:00Speaker 1: put my mom on a leash and just make sure
- 14:02Speaker 1: she didn't fall off the ship.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Cause we, we try. So I tried to delegate that
- 14:08Speaker 3: last cruise. I remember saying to a security guard, like
- 14:11Speaker 3: looking them in their eye, do not let her convince
- 14:14Speaker 3: you that she can walk around by herself.
- 14:16Speaker 1: She will, we don't know. She might even get off
- 14:19Speaker 1: the boat.
- 14:20Speaker 3: And literally my mother found her sitting by herself, having
- 14:24Speaker 3: a glass of wine in a steakhouse, just accepting fans.
- 14:27Speaker 1: That's amazing. Yeah. We also might need an assistant, need
- 14:32Speaker 1: just somebody to flag. If my mom gets on Instagram live,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I just figured out how to get into her account
- 14:37Speaker 1: and disable her. So it doesn't save automatically. But listen,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I always say that my relationship with my mom, our
- 14:45Speaker 1: relationship is Melissa and Joan Rivers, but we both are Joan.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It's that dynamic, but we're both, Robin's a star in
- 14:53Speaker 1: her own right. But I think it's having somebody to,
- 14:58Speaker 1: because of how I travel, Not a lot of people
- 15:02Speaker 1: want to be on the road like that. Not a
- 15:04Speaker 1: lot of people want to travel. They want a home base.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Because how often are you guys on the road?
- 15:08Speaker 1: When we have a full tour schedule, I mean, we
- 15:11Speaker 1: could do 100 shows in nine months.
- 15:15Speaker 2: A year. A year. Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Holy.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And when you go to a city, how long are
- 15:19Speaker 2: you typically in that city between shows?
- 15:21Speaker 1: 24 hours. 24 hours.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Wow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So I think finding somebody who would be like young
- 15:27Speaker 1: and gets it and could go with the flow. And
- 15:29Speaker 1: I don't even want to say like young, but you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: if somebody is a little bit older or has family,
- 15:33Speaker 1: they're probably going to want to stay put.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Or be more local.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I would say if whoever this assistant is, eventually they
- 15:39Speaker 2: do have to be, you know, I don't, I might
- 15:42Speaker 2: get in trouble.
- 15:43Speaker 3: HR.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:44Speaker 2: They should not be married because they should not have
- 15:47Speaker 2: kids because no one can leave their husband and kids
- 15:49Speaker 2: and be on the road for a hundred shows at
- 15:51Speaker 2: like running around as an assistant. maybe, yeah, I think
- 15:55Speaker 2: being single.
- 15:56Speaker 3: It's more of like a drop of a hat kind
- 15:58Speaker 3: of thing. Also Heather's schedule changes so quickly. We all
- 16:02Speaker 3: were really like constantly in motion, even though I'm in
- 16:06Speaker 3: New York right now, like fixing the things that are
- 16:09Speaker 3: coming up this week and all like the travel and,
- 16:12Speaker 3: and moving people around to get you where, or me
- 16:15Speaker 3: where we need to be is a lot. Definitely. There's,
- 16:18Speaker 3: you have to be willing to say like, okay, I
- 16:21Speaker 3: can drop everything tomorrow. Like I was like the car,
- 16:23Speaker 3: the battery needs to be fixed. Otherwise it's going to
- 16:25Speaker 3: be stuck up, stuck on 71st street. So we're going
- 16:28Speaker 3: to do that today. We're going to drive it to
- 16:29Speaker 3: the airport and hopefully it starts. So we were constantly
- 16:33Speaker 3: moving into have someone that's able to do that. It
- 16:35Speaker 3: comes from like a specific type of want or background.
- 16:38Speaker 3: That's that has been hard to find. It's not that
- 16:41Speaker 3: we haven't also maybe looked right, Heather. I feel like
- 16:44Speaker 3: we have like, we've been.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Like, okay, maybe, And Tina will tell you, absolutely, this
- 16:50Speaker 1: is a huge weakness of mine. I'm so bad at,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and it's not a control thing, but relinquishing, to be
- 16:57Speaker 1: able to verbalize what I need. What would be the
- 17:00Speaker 1: best thing in the world is if I could have
- 17:01Speaker 1: somebody who knows how to professionally pack. Because I come
- 17:04Speaker 1: home from the road, I may have 10 hours to
- 17:06Speaker 1: turn around. I probably, you know, spent the last five
- 17:09Speaker 1: hours doing all my laundry and then I'm running and
- 17:13Speaker 1: doing all those other things. And then I'm like, I
- 17:14Speaker 1: just need somebody to be like, I can get you
- 17:16Speaker 1: organized and packed. Cause I, that is a.
- 17:18Speaker 2: You can have a down day in between.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Oh, there's no down day. There's no down day. But
- 17:23Speaker 1: like somebody who's like, okay, bitch, I know how to
- 17:25Speaker 1: fucking Marie Kondo this. We're going to like, you know,
- 17:28Speaker 1: we're going to have everything in cubes. Cause my bags explode.
- 17:31Speaker 1: My husband calls me hurricane Heather. But I think when
- 17:33Speaker 1: you're also wearing so many different hats and then I
- 17:36Speaker 1: come home and I've got, 18 glitter suits, and I'm like,
- 17:38Speaker 1: where are the hot pink glitter pants for the show
- 17:40Speaker 1: in Tampa?
- 17:41Speaker 2: We gotta get you an assistant.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's truly all hands on deck of trying to get
- 17:45Speaker 1: me back into one piece with my sciatic leg just
- 17:50Speaker 1: hanging off. I need somebody to put the eggshell back
- 17:52Speaker 1: together and then push me out the door to go perform.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I get it. You probably have your own systems for
- 17:59Speaker 2: when you come home. You know where everything is.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You're not systems.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You know what I mean? You come home, you're kind
- 18:05Speaker 2: of just like, you've been doing it so it's hard
- 18:07Speaker 2: to take this time to train someone new to show
- 18:10Speaker 2: them where shit is like in between shows you have
- 18:12Speaker 2: a certain amount of hours like that can be chaotic
- 18:15Speaker 2: so I I understand just like doing it yourself but
- 18:19Speaker 2: you don't know how much you need an assistant until
- 18:21Speaker 2: you have one. Until you have.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Someone literally being like. Tina says this to me every
- 18:23Speaker 1: day of my life. She's like, hi, hi, the clock
- 18:26Speaker 1: is ticking. I'm like, when do we have time to
- 18:28Speaker 1: onboard someone?
- 18:29Speaker 3: We don't.
- 18:29Speaker 2: We don't have time. But like, even for me, when I, like,
- 18:33Speaker 2: I've always been an assistant. I was an assistant from
- 18:35Speaker 2: like 23 to 32, or I think that's accurate. But
- 18:39Speaker 2: those years were like, I was the one running around
- 18:42Speaker 2: on the road. I had no ties. I didn't get
- 18:45Speaker 2: my dog until a little bit later. So, I could
- 18:47Speaker 2: do the things. I could hop on a plane. And
- 18:49Speaker 2: I was always the one like, you know, I was
- 18:52Speaker 2: that girl. But then when it was time to get
- 18:55Speaker 2: my own assistant, I was like, oh, I am that girl.
- 18:57Speaker 2: And I can do all these things by myself. And
- 18:59Speaker 2: then I got so busy. And when you finally have
- 19:01Speaker 2: someone who's showing up at your door being like, I'm
- 19:03Speaker 2: here to do something. And you take the time to
- 19:05Speaker 2: be like, you know what? Actually, I would love help
- 19:07Speaker 2: with this. Or I would love help with this. It
- 19:09Speaker 2: made my life so much easier.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And yeah.
- 19:13Speaker 2: We'll find her.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And I think it's different too in comedy because comedians
- 19:17Speaker 1: by nature were a little bit more of self starters.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And that's how Tina and I connect to like being
- 19:22Speaker 1: on Broadway. Like it's a different vibe. You're not sitting
- 19:25Speaker 1: in a trailer and people are, no, I mean, fuck
- 19:27Speaker 1: if I'm on set and somebody knocks on the door
- 19:28Speaker 1: and they're like, They're like, we'll bring you breakfast. I'm like, no, no, no,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I want to go to Crafty. I want to meet
- 19:33Speaker 1: the chef. I want to mingle. I want to get
- 19:35Speaker 1: a couple sticks of beef jerky. I'll go get my
- 19:37Speaker 1: own coffee. I enjoy walking around on set, tinkering around.
- 19:43Speaker 1: The whole you're isolated by yourself, I hate that. Me too, yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I want to be backstage. When we're back at theater.
- 19:48Speaker 1: It's like, we want to meet everybody. And I just,
- 19:50Speaker 1: it's very much so self-starter. Like I feel uncomfortable. Like, no, no,
- 19:52Speaker 1: let me get my shit. Like, obviously if we're, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: if time constraints, sure. But I, I very much so
- 19:58Speaker 1: like to mix and mingle and, you know, go see
- 20:01Speaker 1: what kind of dipping sauces we have.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I am obsessed with that and like respect that so
- 20:06Speaker 2: much and understand because set should be fun and like
- 20:09Speaker 2: you're such a people person. So I, and I also
- 20:12Speaker 2: am someone who likes to pick out my own food,
- 20:14Speaker 2: but with the packing stuff and the stuff that like
- 20:16Speaker 2: FedEx returns, like I, or holding returns, just having someone
- 20:21Speaker 2: to be like, I can do that for you and
- 20:23Speaker 2: save an hour. Cause it takes an hour.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it really does. And really too, it's like so
- 20:28Speaker 1: much of how we travel, you know, and things get
- 20:30Speaker 1: changed so quickly, you know, like, I mean, we are, okay,
- 20:34Speaker 1: now we're not going to Cleveland for a show. We're
- 20:36Speaker 1: going this way or, you know, it, you gotta be
- 20:38Speaker 1: able to pivot.
- 20:39Speaker 3: And then also, by the way, you have a weekly podcast.
- 20:42Speaker 3: So it's one of those things of like, how do
- 20:45Speaker 3: we then, which I produce from our side, the podcast,
- 20:49Speaker 3: and then we work with your media to like put
- 20:52Speaker 3: it up on a platform. But really it's Heather with
- 20:56Speaker 3: the mic and then either we have an office that
- 21:00Speaker 3: we're transitioning from or it's we're in LA, New York.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Hopefully we get it done because you need to every
- 21:07Speaker 3: week submit it.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Fingers crossed.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Correct. Right.
- 21:11Speaker 3: It's one of those things where we, I think now
- 21:13Speaker 3: moving into this new, hopefully a new era when we're
- 21:17Speaker 3: moving our office into Heather's new home and it'll look
- 21:22Speaker 3: like fantastic. Hopefully we're going to do it up really well.
- 21:25Speaker 3: And that's like also another thing, another cog in the
- 21:30Speaker 3: wheel of like, how are we, now that I'm in
- 21:32Speaker 3: New York and not Atlanta, how do we make sure
- 21:35Speaker 3: we still are providing like literally the best podcast every week? Yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 2: You have so much going on. And it's just you
- 21:41Speaker 2: two right.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Now, really. Just us two.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's insane.
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's insane.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah. How do, okay, so you have your live show.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I'm type A. Heather is type A.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So how it works is Tina's type A.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And I am like, and she, what she does is
- 21:56Speaker 1: sometimes when I'm tired, she just shoves a Diet Coke
- 21:59Speaker 1: down my throat and she winds me up and she goes,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I need you to tap dance for the next three
- 22:03Speaker 1: hours because this is, we got brand deals. And I'm like, yep, tink, tink, tink.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Like it's truly, that's how we do it.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I was going to say, I hope sometimes I can, I,
- 22:11Speaker 3: because as we were saying, we know each other for
- 22:13Speaker 3: 20 years now. So I can see when the light
- 22:16Speaker 3: is dimming and Heather is, is like not going to
- 22:19Speaker 3: be her best version. And everybody, you know, That's sort
- 22:23Speaker 3: of the hard part of being a celebrity is everybody
- 22:26Speaker 3: wants the best version of you at all hours of
- 22:29Speaker 3: the day. So take a beat, take two minutes, chug
- 22:33Speaker 3: some water, have a mini Diet Coke can, have a
- 22:36Speaker 3: chocolate chip cookie or a snack of some kind. Your
- 22:40Speaker 3: blood sugar will come back and you'll be wanting to
- 22:42Speaker 3: chat to a stranger for 35 minutes about their, I
- 22:46Speaker 3: don't know, their dogs, their food, whatever. So we understand
- 22:51Speaker 3: that kind of, cycle, it's hard, it's really.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Hard for Heather. She can't see when the lights go down.
- 22:58Speaker 1: When the lights go down, when I start to fade,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I'm very easy, I just need a Diet Coke and
- 23:03Speaker 1: a Coke Zero and a cookie.
- 23:05Speaker 3: But also, it's rare. You have the most energy, Heather,
- 23:10Speaker 3: for sure.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't picture you not having energy. I go
- 23:12Speaker 2: down before you.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Which is weird because I think I've now started to
- 23:16Speaker 1: realize I've always been type C. Or, I don't even, like,
- 23:21Speaker 1: but I'm, and I've always thought that I was kind
- 23:23Speaker 1: of lazy. And then now, so many people are like, Heather,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you're the most energetic, the most workforce person, but I'm
- 23:29Speaker 1: still feel like I'm not doing enough. And I still
- 23:31Speaker 1: feel like I'm, I've, you know, I sat down for
- 23:33Speaker 1: 10 minutes.
- 23:34Speaker 2: There is no one who should think that you are
- 23:36Speaker 2: lazy from listening to this podcast because all the things
- 23:39Speaker 2: that you guys have going on, the fact that it's
- 23:41Speaker 2: only you two is insane.
- 23:43Speaker 1: No, it's insane. I feel bad. Tina's going to file
- 23:45Speaker 1: a complaint after this.
- 23:47Speaker 2: But I think every, what you just said, Tina, about
- 23:50Speaker 2: the fact that you can recognize like when the light's
- 23:52Speaker 2: going off, that is every boss's dream. to have an
- 23:56Speaker 2: employee who's like, I know that she's not in the
- 23:59Speaker 2: best moment right now to like go talk to someone,
- 24:01Speaker 2: or I know that she needs to reschedule this meeting,
- 24:03Speaker 2: or I know that I'm going to, I'm going to
- 24:04Speaker 2: give her a beat. I'm going to cancel that and
- 24:05Speaker 2: like move around her schedule to like, you know.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Which we did, we did to you too. Unfortunately we
- 24:11Speaker 3: had to be like, she's not going to make it.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And like, Yes, you had like barely no voice.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I forget what week it was. Oh, I was sick
- 24:19Speaker 1: as a dog.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Netflix is a joke and you had the show the
- 24:21Speaker 3: night before.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I had no voice after night three and I still
- 24:24Speaker 1: had to perform. And I was like, I don't know
- 24:26Speaker 1: how I'm going to do this. I literally have no voice.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Oh my God, no.
- 24:28Speaker 1: That's the hard part. That's my one thing. When my
- 24:31Speaker 1: voice goes out, we're like, fuck. Yeah. Your whole job
- 24:34Speaker 1: is yapping.
- 24:35Speaker 2: How does that not happen all the time? I mean,
- 24:37Speaker 2: how long are your live shows typically?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Like an hour and a half. And you're just. I
- 24:42Speaker 1: don't shut the fuck up.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:43Speaker 1: But I've now learned. Tina taught me a lot of
- 24:45Speaker 1: vocal warmups. We travel with a nice thing of throat
- 24:48Speaker 1: coke tea. And I've also learned how to like, yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 1: all the Manuka honey. I'm lathered in the Manuka honey
- 24:54Speaker 1: when I get on stage. But we also take off
- 24:57Speaker 1: a lot of time in the summer. And I've said that.
- 25:00Speaker 1: When we tour hard, we tour hard when we work hard.
- 25:03Speaker 1: But then it's like, hey, I'm going away for June
- 25:05Speaker 1: and July. You too, go travel. So necessary. You have
- 25:08Speaker 1: to recharge, yeah.
- 25:10Speaker 2: You can't go, go, go all year. I mean, I
- 25:12Speaker 2: don't know how the hell Taylor Swift does it with
- 25:14Speaker 2: all those shows. Like it is like, and hers are
- 25:17Speaker 2: like three hours long. I'm just using her as an example.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Cause I went to one and I was like, how
- 25:21Speaker 2: the hell like. I've never seen someone, like.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I went and saw her, too, because I wanted to
- 25:26Speaker 1: see it, like, you know, women supporting other women in
- 25:28Speaker 1: the arts. And I was truly blown away.
- 25:31Speaker 2: It's crazy. She's like a robot. Like, I mean, I
- 25:34Speaker 2: don't want that to sound bad, but, like, performers who just, like, go, go,
- 25:38Speaker 2: go like that all year round. Like, I know one
- 25:40Speaker 2: of her old assistants, and I was like, how are you? Like,
- 25:43Speaker 2: that's a crazy environment. But, like, I respect performers so
- 25:48Speaker 2: much because it's not, like... No one can do that.
- 25:52Speaker 1: How many assistants does she have when she has assistants?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Like I love hearing when, I mean, you would need
- 25:56Speaker 1: eight people.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I think that there's a couple. I've never worked with her,
- 25:59Speaker 2: but I'm pretty sure that there's a couple and they're
- 26:02Speaker 2: on a rotational schedule. So they'll do like a month on,
- 26:04Speaker 2: a month off just because of the travel. So yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: that's what, and a lot of my high profile clients
- 26:11Speaker 2: who travel a lot, they have rotational nannies too. So
- 26:14Speaker 2: they'll do month on month off.
- 26:15Speaker 1: So I think this is what we need to know.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Miss Graham, we need to know what are the kind
- 26:19Speaker 1: of things that we should be asking for or expect?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Because I wouldn't even know. I'd be like, I would
- 26:25Speaker 1: feel so uncomfortable being like, can I get a salad? Like,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I don't like that. Like, what are the actual things
- 26:30Speaker 1: when you're bringing somebody in? And that's the thing, too, is, like,
- 26:33Speaker 1: Tina knows this. I'm wildly loyal, like, in the sense where, like,
- 26:36Speaker 1: once we're buds, we're buds forever. Or, like, once we work, like,
- 26:39Speaker 1: it's very hard for me to, if things aren't working, to, like, oh,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, we're going to figure this out. You know?
- 26:43Speaker 2: I love this question because so many clients are like,
- 26:46Speaker 2: what can I put in this job description? What's, like,
- 26:48Speaker 2: within scope?
- 26:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 2: When I was an assistant, I think I was doing everything.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I was walking the dog. I remember... My first day
- 26:57Speaker 2: of work, Jen was like, hey, do you mind taking
- 26:59Speaker 2: my dog for a walk in Central Park, Pippi? She
- 27:01Speaker 2: likes to go off-leash, by the way, so will you
- 27:03Speaker 2: take her for a walk? And in my head, I'm like,
- 27:07Speaker 2: this is my first day of work.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Also, it's so Jen to say that.
- 27:09Speaker 2: You want me to take your dog to Central Park off-leash?
- 27:12Speaker 2: What if this dog gets hit by a car? I'm fired.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I don't know this dog. I was so scared, but
- 27:17Speaker 2: I was too afraid to lie to her and be like, yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 2: I took Pippi off-leash. Or yes, I took the dog off-leash,
- 27:22Speaker 2: so I found a big field in Central Park and
- 27:25Speaker 2: I took the dog off the leash, but I was
- 27:27Speaker 2: like shitting my pants the whole time, but I was
- 27:29Speaker 2: too afraid to lie to my boss.
- 27:30Speaker 1: But was she testing you?
- 27:31Speaker 2: I don't know, but he is a very good dog,
- 27:35Speaker 2: but like anywhere from the dog to FedEx to like,
- 27:39Speaker 2: I always say if, listen, if your boss is not
- 27:41Speaker 2: feeling well and you're at your boss's apartment, offer to
- 27:44Speaker 2: put it on a bowl of soup or go get
- 27:46Speaker 2: your boss food. Like the most important things I think
- 27:48Speaker 2: are kids, dogs or pets. And then like, when is
- 27:53Speaker 2: your boss eating? And then there's all the other stuff
- 27:55Speaker 2: like returns and packing, like totally within scope. Um, obviously
- 28:00Speaker 2: dealing with the team. So checking in with Tina, checking in, um,
- 28:04Speaker 2: with dear media or there's so much like I I'm
- 28:07Speaker 2: happy to help workshop a JD, but I think, I
- 28:10Speaker 2: feel like most of this stuff is all fair game.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 1: And that is what my one requirement I'll say directly
- 28:15Speaker 1: to camera. You must love French bulldogs. If you don't
- 28:18Speaker 1: like Frenchies, Or if you come into my house and
- 28:20Speaker 1: you go, ooh, they make noises. It's not gonna work. Okay,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I don't even care if you like me.
- 28:25Speaker 2: This is a French bulldog friendly house.
- 28:26Speaker 1: This is a French bulldog pro family. And also, you
- 28:30Speaker 1: can't make any comments when my husband eats chicken wings.
- 28:33Speaker 1: You have to look away because he eats them like
- 28:35Speaker 1: an absolute animal. You just don't, I don't ever need you.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That's the only thing I want on an NDA is like, hey,
- 28:41Speaker 1: Heather's husband eats wings like an absolute barbarian. Those are
- 28:44Speaker 1: the only two of my real non-negotiables.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I mean, these jobs are so intimate. They will probably
- 28:50Speaker 2: see him eat chicken wings. They will be in your house.
- 28:52Speaker 2: They will be in your space. And it's such a,
- 28:56Speaker 2: as good of a resume as someone can have, it's
- 28:59Speaker 2: such a personality thing. And obviously, you ladies know that.
- 29:02Speaker 2: It has to be someone who can be on tour
- 29:04Speaker 2: with you for hours on end, who can be in
- 29:06Speaker 2: the car with you going to an event at seven
- 29:10Speaker 2: in the morning and you're like not awake yet and
- 29:13Speaker 2: you don't want them to be talking your ear off
- 29:14Speaker 2: you want them to be quiet yeah you know and
- 29:16Speaker 2: not in a bad way it's just like you should
- 29:18Speaker 2: know social cues you.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Should social cues that's what tina and i like because
- 29:23Speaker 1: we read a room you got to be able to
- 29:25Speaker 1: read a room yeah yes i'm probably the one talking
- 29:28Speaker 1: their ear off at 7 a.m no i was.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Literally about to say that it's so funny because heather's
- 29:33Speaker 3: the one full voice talking to whatever driver we have
- 29:36Speaker 3: at 630 in the morning. And I'm like, just, just
- 29:39Speaker 3: stop two seconds. We're almost at the airport. We're almost there.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I was getting out of the car and literally I
- 29:46Speaker 1: was yapping to my Uber driver. We didn't talk the
- 29:49Speaker 1: whole ride. I was at the most beautiful Armenian man
- 29:52Speaker 1: I've ever seen in my life. Older, maybe like 60.
- 29:54Speaker 1: This guy had to be like a banana Republic model.
- 29:57Speaker 1: He had the most stunning eyes and we were pulling
- 30:00Speaker 1: up and I said, sir, I don't mean to say
- 30:01Speaker 1: this in an odd way, but has anybody ever told
- 30:03Speaker 1: you you have the best head of hair on the planet?
- 30:05Speaker 1: And then he was like, wait till you see my eyes.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And he turned around and I thought I was like
- 30:08Speaker 1: staring at Jesus. Like I literally was like, Lord, is
- 30:11Speaker 1: that you? This man was so beautiful. And I even asked,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I said, what is your background? He's like, I'm Armenian.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I was like, well, Armenian men, older. I mean, I'll say-
- 30:20Speaker 1: Did you get his card? I sure did. Yeah. I mean,
- 30:22Speaker 1: he's my new driver. Great. Might be my second husband,
- 30:25Speaker 1: you know? Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Well, your new assistant can coordinate with your new friend
- 30:29Speaker 2: whenever you come to LA. Yeah.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Throw that on her. I think what I also do
- 30:32Speaker 1: is a little bit of like a pause for me
- 30:34Speaker 1: is I genuinely, like if you're in my space, I
- 30:37Speaker 1: want you to feel comfortable. I want you to have
- 30:39Speaker 1: a good time. But it's the idea of letting go
- 30:41Speaker 1: that I don't actually have to entertain you. We can
- 30:43Speaker 1: sit in just silence.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I can be like, hi. Because to me, if you're
- 30:47Speaker 1: at my home, even if you're working, to go lay
- 30:50Speaker 1: down and take a nap, I would never. I would
- 30:52Speaker 1: be like, no, no, no. Okay, now let's break down
- 30:54Speaker 1: your family tree and figure out, you know, why aren't
- 30:56Speaker 1: you talking to your aunt? We can fix this.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Let's make sure we add those in the interview questions
- 31:01Speaker 2: for your assistant.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Megan, I had found Heather a laundress. Like that was
- 31:07Speaker 3: like a specific need back in the day when we
- 31:09Speaker 3: first got to Atlanta. Like we need someone to like come, wash,
- 31:13Speaker 3: like repack, that kind of thing. Wasn't this woman sitting
- 31:17Speaker 3: at the, breakfast bar in the kitchen, just having an espresso,
- 31:22Speaker 3: playing on the iPad, chit-chatting with Heather. And I was like,
- 31:25Speaker 3: this is not.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Going to go well.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I just couldn't tell.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Have we done anything? And I was like, well, no,
- 31:31Speaker 1: because she's having some situation with her family back home.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And I don't know if you know this, but we
- 31:37Speaker 1: got to get in there and figure out what to do.
- 31:38Speaker 2: So you're the one that we have to worry about.
- 31:39Speaker 1: No, I'm 100%. Correct. And maybe we don't have somebody
- 31:43Speaker 1: on the road because I don't need somebody to get
- 31:45Speaker 1: us out. Maybe we need somebody who's just at the
- 31:46Speaker 1: home base who's holding it down. Yeah, with the dog.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I agree. Husband. Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we can do that. That would be like a
- 31:54Speaker 2: house manager slash PA thing. okay local gal yeah packer
- 31:58Speaker 2: yeah when you come back into town she can stock
- 32:01Speaker 2: the house for you get all the stuff you need
- 32:02Speaker 2: have dinner waiting.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Oh my god yeah that would be amazing you know
- 32:06Speaker 1: what i'm just i just got excited about thinking of
- 32:08Speaker 1: like i'm flying back on wednesday i land at 6
- 32:11Speaker 1: p.m we have meetings and then i will wake up
- 32:15Speaker 1: the next and then i'll have to do all my
- 32:16Speaker 1: laundry i'll pack all my stuff and have to repack
- 32:19Speaker 1: like to be able to slide in a week yeah
- 32:22Speaker 1: And for me, I'm always thinking with tour, like I'm
- 32:24Speaker 1: always thinking two months ahead. So I'm like, okay, I'm
- 32:26Speaker 1: already have my show outfit laid out. But to have
- 32:28Speaker 1: somebody to take that weight off my brain that I'm
- 32:30Speaker 1: not having to think about the next three weeks or
- 32:33Speaker 1: like I've already planned it out or they make the
- 32:34Speaker 1: list and they're like, checked it off. You just say yes.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Like packing list, a packing calendar. So, oh, this, this city,
- 32:41Speaker 2: she's wearing this. It's already hung up with all your
- 32:43Speaker 2: stuff for the next day.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't even know what to do.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Or somebody, I have to jump off. Oh yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 1: We love you, Tina.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 32:51Speaker 1: You are the best.
- 32:52Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear what the rest of the
- 32:53Speaker 3: episode sounds like.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 32:54Speaker 1: We're going to talk about you.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Just wait.
- 32:57Speaker 3: You better. Bye, honey.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Bye. Well, now that we've lost Tina, let's talk about her.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Okay. What a bitch. What an irresponsible, sloppy bitch. No,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'm kidding. She's truly the best. I love her so much.
- 33:09Speaker 2: It's so nice to see and obviously so rare to
- 33:12Speaker 2: have someone from college to now be a best friend
- 33:15Speaker 2: and partner in your business. It's goals. When it works,
- 33:18Speaker 2: it is goals.
- 33:19Speaker 1: When it works, it's goals. And I always told her too,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, if she gets the calling to
- 33:24Speaker 1: go perform or do whatever, like it's always like a
- 33:27Speaker 1: revolving door, like go do your thing. And I just want...
- 33:31Speaker 1: I just, I love seeing all my friends thrive and
- 33:34Speaker 1: feel like they have a place and feel like they have.
- 33:36Speaker 1: But to me, it does not benefit me. What fun
- 33:41Speaker 1: is it if I can't do it with the people
- 33:42Speaker 1: that I love? It is, nothing is ever a competition.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I'm like, let's do this together. Because how much fucking
- 33:47Speaker 1: fun is that?
- 33:48Speaker 2: So fun.
- 33:49Speaker 1: It's so much better, you know? And we're all doing
- 33:51Speaker 1: different stuff and we're all so different individually. But like
- 33:54Speaker 1: when it works together and you get everybody together, that's
- 33:56Speaker 1: just like, it's kismet. And being on the road is
- 33:58Speaker 1: lonely and I don't need people to hold my hand.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But man, being able to have the people that you
- 34:03Speaker 1: love the most with you, that saves you many dark nights.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It really does.
- 34:08Speaker 2: And whoever your assistant is, whenever she comes on, she
- 34:11Speaker 2: is the best person to learn from. Like the person
- 34:13Speaker 2: who knows you the most outside of your family is Tina.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Yeah. So. Truly.
- 34:17Speaker 2: How lucky is she to have someone like.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I mean, that does make me nervous. All right, here's
- 34:20Speaker 1: the deal. And I'm not like a brown M &
- 34:22Speaker 1: M' s girl. No. I literally am truly like, if you've
- 34:25Speaker 1: got a hunk of cheese in your back pocket, I
- 34:27Speaker 1: really need like one hunk of Parmigiano-Reggiano. That's a thing.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I don't even need a protein bar. If you have
- 34:32Speaker 1: like a nice little half wedge in your back pocket.
- 34:35Speaker 1: and maybe like, you know, some thick cut bacon, and
- 34:38Speaker 1: you just open my mouth like a seal, throw it down,
- 34:40Speaker 1: and then crack open a Coke Zero, and then maybe
- 34:43Speaker 1: if I'm getting crazy, have like an American Spirit cigarette
- 34:47Speaker 1: after a show at 11, you're like, hey, you haven't
- 34:49Speaker 1: had one of these in like six months, you want one?
- 34:51Speaker 1: I'm like, girl. Hired, you know? That's all I need.
- 34:55Speaker 1: That's all I need.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Assistant, add that to her rider, please.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not, even when I go do shows, my
- 35:00Speaker 1: rider is so simple. It's like a couple spin drifts
- 35:02Speaker 1: or charcuterie and maybe we have a glass of wine
- 35:04Speaker 1: after the show. It's very, very easy. The biggest part
- 35:08Speaker 1: about working for me will be me getting in my
- 35:10Speaker 1: own way of being like, this is what I need
- 35:13Speaker 1: you to do, you know?
- 35:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Because I still like, guys, I hate to tell you,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I love to go to Trader Joe's. I love to
- 35:18Speaker 1: bebop around. And when you travel as much as I do,
- 35:20Speaker 1: when I'm home, I crave doing the things.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I understand that.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I want to go compare hummuses for 30 minutes and disassociate.
- 35:29Speaker 1: That's what I want to do.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Well, maybe we will throw that on her plate immediately.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Okay, great.
- 35:34Speaker 2: It'll be like a slow takeover.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I need somebody to tell me when my taxes are due.
- 35:41Speaker 1: That's really what I need. Great. So maybe somebody with
- 35:44Speaker 1: an accounting background. Okay. Great. We'll add it to the list.
- 35:47Speaker 2: We will revisit this and we will find you the
- 35:49Speaker 2: best person.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I love this idea. And you know, you're always on
- 35:52Speaker 1: my ass. Let me tell you something. Meg is always
- 35:55Speaker 1: on my ass. She's like, you need somebody. Heather, I'm
- 35:56Speaker 1: checking in. I'm like, no, I do. I promise I'm
- 35:58Speaker 1: going to get it together.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I have a really good person for you who I
- 36:00Speaker 2: think would be a very good fit. She's one of
- 36:03Speaker 2: my best friends. She's from Atlanta. Now she's in New York.
- 36:05Speaker 2: She goes between the two. We'll talk about it.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I'm very excited. I'm very excited.
- 36:09Speaker 2: But like we can have other options too.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I mean, I'm open to, if you like it, you
- 36:13Speaker 1: say it, I'm down.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yes. She's great.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Okay. Offline. Okay. Perfect. Offline. We love this. Yes. Okay.
- 36:18Speaker 2: So now that Tina's in New York and you are
- 36:20Speaker 2: Atlanta based most of the time, what has been the
- 36:22Speaker 2: most challenging thing about having her not in the same
- 36:25Speaker 2: city as you?
- 36:26Speaker 1: Well, you know, we produce a podcast every week and
- 36:28Speaker 1: we're building this like incredible studio at my house now. Um,
- 36:32Speaker 1: so I think just some of that, you know, but
- 36:34Speaker 1: it's really not even that tough cause I did the
- 36:35Speaker 1: podcast for years solo and it's so great now that I've,
- 36:39Speaker 1: you know, relinquished that and been like, okay, I need
- 36:40Speaker 1: the help on that. Um, maybe it's just like some
- 36:43Speaker 1: technical stuff.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Again, like how did you do that solo? Because I
- 36:46Speaker 2: could never do this solo. It's crazy.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Um, I guess I just grind it out. I have
- 36:52Speaker 1: to set up all my cameras and do the thing.
- 36:54Speaker 1: So now that I'm back to the solo dolo and
- 36:56Speaker 1: I realize how much you did, I was like, oh shit.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Because I don't know if the camera goes out halfway through.
- 37:00Speaker 1: We're just raw dogging it. And it kind of adds
- 37:03Speaker 1: to the chaos. And I, you know, I'm sure what
- 37:05Speaker 1: Tina will say is I thrive in a chaotic environment.
- 37:09Speaker 1: And I don't mean like an emotionally abusive chaotic. I
- 37:11Speaker 1: just mean like, you know, we're going, we're going a
- 37:13Speaker 1: thousand places. We're doing a bunch of different things. That's
- 37:16Speaker 1: kind of how my brain works.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:17Speaker 1: And all she desperately wants is me to get hyper organized.
- 37:20Speaker 1: And I'm almost like, Tina, I don't know if the
- 37:22Speaker 1: lights are really going to dim once I'm organized. What
- 37:24Speaker 1: will I have to like, you know? get up and
- 37:27Speaker 1: panic about.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Do you think her leaving was a way of being like,
- 37:29Speaker 2: let's see what, uh, what falls into place now that
- 37:33Speaker 2: I'm gone? Like what systems do we have to now
- 37:36Speaker 2: input now that I'm not there to do them? Like
- 37:38Speaker 2: maybe this is a forceful way to get organized now
- 37:40Speaker 2: that she's no longer local.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Yes. True. This may be like, she's like, I had
- 37:44Speaker 1: to rip the bandaid, sink or swim, bitch. Yeah. I mean,
- 37:49Speaker 1: but it's, it's also nice too, because Tina and I
- 37:51Speaker 1: have a great way of communicating where, um, I'm like,
- 37:54Speaker 1: she knows I'm not a good texter. And I don't
- 37:56Speaker 1: say that to be like, that seems like such an excuse. Right.
- 37:59Speaker 1: But I am FaceTiming for 10 minutes or call me.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Let's go through everything. It's so much better. Like, hey,
- 38:04Speaker 1: can I call you? Let's do it. The whole like,
- 38:08Speaker 1: you just get bogged down with so much different shit
- 38:10Speaker 1: every day.
- 38:10Speaker 2: It's probably more productive that way in a way.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Like.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Setting time each week because then you know it's like
- 38:16Speaker 2: this is our hour and we actually need to go
- 38:18Speaker 2: through shit as opposed to oh if we're just at
- 38:20Speaker 2: your house hanging oh yeah like we'll do it later
- 38:22Speaker 2: we'll do it in an hour and then she can
- 38:24Speaker 2: just set time and call you now that you guys
- 38:26Speaker 2: are long distance.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and it has– I mean, I'm in New York
- 38:28Speaker 1: all the time. It's been kind of nice. And I
- 38:30Speaker 1: know that, you know, she wants– she's single and wants
- 38:32Speaker 1: to mingle and do the damn thing. I'm like, girl,
- 38:34Speaker 1: go back to– like, go to New York. I get it.
- 38:36Speaker 2: New York guys are a different crop.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I get it. Yes, and everybody in Atlanta is married
- 38:39Speaker 1: with kids. I'm like, go thrive. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I need to set Tina up with someone.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Please do. She's the best.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Because I do it professionally, whenever I know that someone's single,
- 38:48Speaker 2: my brain can't really turn off. So I need to actually–
- 38:51Speaker 2: really put my thinking cap on.
- 38:52Speaker 1: She's such a catch and she's so fantastic. And, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 1: I mean, but it is tough when we're on the
- 38:56Speaker 1: road all the time. And I was like, I want
- 38:57Speaker 1: you to find somebody fantastic who also understands and appreciates
- 39:01Speaker 1: what you do. Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 2: And maybe that's someone who's also in the industry who
- 39:04Speaker 2: gets the last minute flight or the schedule switch who
- 39:08Speaker 2: doesn't get annoyed if you're like, oh, I got to
- 39:10Speaker 2: take this.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Call and have dinner. And that's why too, you know,
- 39:13Speaker 1: we were on the road a little bit and Tina
- 39:15Speaker 1: was like, do you want me to come out with
- 39:16Speaker 1: you to LA? And I was like, no, enjoy your
- 39:17Speaker 1: time home. Like I, and I really don't need it.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna be bopping around and doing the things. I
- 39:23Speaker 1: go to interviews by myself. Just send me the location.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Send me a pin, I'll show up.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I'll have my Armenian driver bop me over now.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I would love I'll have my hot Armenian he is
- 39:35Speaker 1: so hot I'll show you his photo in a second
- 39:36Speaker 1: I gotta find this guy I will say I would
- 39:39Speaker 1: love if somebody could figure out how to get into places. Meg,
- 39:42Speaker 1: we still call you.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Meg, we always call you and we're like, hi, we
- 39:45Speaker 1: cannot get into Fort Charles. Do you have a connection?
- 39:48Speaker 1: Because that's what I need. But I got you. I
- 39:51Speaker 1: need to just start dropping someone else's name.
- 39:54Speaker 2: When you get your assistant, your assistant will get access
- 39:56Speaker 2: to our Clyde Slack channel. And on the Slack channel,
- 39:59Speaker 2: your assistant can say, oh, I need a contact at
- 40:01Speaker 2: this restaurant. And then we spit it back to the
- 40:04Speaker 2: assistant and then they can book it. But you can
- 40:06Speaker 2: also still keep asking me. I'm very happy to help.
- 40:08Speaker 1: No, no, no. No, we've abused the hotline. No, you
- 40:11Speaker 1: have not. No, no, no. We have abused the hotline.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You have not. And we are going to stop doing that.
- 40:14Speaker 1: And we need to get an assistant. And then, I mean,
- 40:17Speaker 1: then I will be in the slack. And I'll be like, hey, guys.
- 40:20Speaker 1: So here's the thing. I have this weird rash. And
- 40:22Speaker 1: can anybody in there, like, yeah, they're abused the slack.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You're not allowed slack. On Tina's account. On Tina's account.
- 40:28Speaker 1: How does it work, too, when you get an assistant with, like,
- 40:30Speaker 1: the HR of it all? Because, like, we're kiki. We're
- 40:32Speaker 1: hanging out. Like, and I, of course, would be appropriate.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I'm HR. You're HR.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Pretty much.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Okay.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Which is a problem.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Because I have such a close relationship with a lot
- 40:42Speaker 2: of the clients.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 2: And also the assistants, so I'm kind of stuck in
- 40:45Speaker 2: the middle at times.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Usually the business manager can step in as HR, but
- 40:49Speaker 2: a lot of times it's me, which is fine.
- 40:51Speaker 1: But sometimes it's... I don't have a business manager. Do
- 40:54Speaker 1: I need a business manager?
- 40:57Speaker 2: I'm not going to complain about being HR. I like
- 40:59Speaker 2: being HR. I problem solve. I... That is a benefit
- 41:03Speaker 2: of using us, to be honest, because I can step
- 41:05Speaker 2: in and be like, okay, I see this point of
- 41:06Speaker 2: view and I also see this point of view. And
- 41:09Speaker 2: I can kind of act as that middleman because I
- 41:10Speaker 2: truly do get both sides of the relationship.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Or the client will say, my assistant is fucking up
- 41:15Speaker 2: in that area. Please go talk to them.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And then I'll do a Zoom.
- 41:18Speaker 2: So I'll hop on Zoom and do a specialized training
- 41:21Speaker 2: on how to be on set or what fitting etiquette
- 41:25Speaker 2: is around like a red carpet event, stuff like that.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:29Speaker 1: See, that's great. And you have so much experience, so
- 41:31Speaker 1: you're able to say, hey, tighten it up.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Yeah, or like you're being dumb, stop. Or just like
- 41:36Speaker 2: lock it up, you know, respectfully.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Respectfully lock it the fuck up. Yeah. And again, I
- 41:42Speaker 1: think that the one thing that I need them to
- 41:43Speaker 1: sign with the NDA is like, Heather and Jeff eat
- 41:46Speaker 1: so much. Where it's like, I just watched him eat
- 41:50Speaker 1: four bagels and I'm like, shut up, it's my day off.
- 41:52Speaker 1: You know, like that's what, that's really what it's going
- 41:55Speaker 1: to be is like, we snack hard.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Hell yeah. Yeah. Where are you going to eat while
- 41:58Speaker 2: you're in L.A.
- 42:00Speaker 1: You know where I'm going to go right after this?
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'm going to go to the South Beverly Grill.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Oh.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And I'm going to go– because, you know, I'm a
- 42:05Speaker 1: Hillstones girl. Oh, yeah. We have– Coconut shrimp roll. Obviously.
- 42:08Speaker 1: They're Houston's. Oh, always.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Yep.
- 42:11Speaker 1: And because it's right by my hotel and I'm like, okay,
- 42:13Speaker 1: I have an hour maybe before I have to get
- 42:16Speaker 1: in glam and that's what I'm going to be doing.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I still can't believe you have Emmys and you're on
- 42:19Speaker 2: my couch. It's so nice.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Well, I'm not, but this is so low key for me.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I'm just going to the parties.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And I just got to like fart around and like
- 42:26Speaker 1: go around and like drink champagne and be like, hi,
- 42:27Speaker 1: does anybody want to put me in a movie? And
- 42:29Speaker 1: they're like, no. But I'm like, okay, cool. You know,
- 42:31Speaker 1: it's the same shit.
- 42:32Speaker 2: They're not going to say that.
- 42:34Speaker 1: No, they haven't. They're not going to say that, but
- 42:36Speaker 1: they still aren't calling to confirm an audition.
- 42:39Speaker 2: This isn't the attitude that we want today.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 42:42Speaker 2: So.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I know, positive, positive.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 42:44Speaker 1: But it was wild. Like I went to the party
- 42:46Speaker 1: last night and I was telling you offline, I was like, wow,
- 42:48Speaker 1: is this a sign of the times?
- 42:49Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:50Speaker 1: It was a, it was a weird energy. It was
- 42:52Speaker 1: a weird vibe.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I don't like that. It's scary. It's scary.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:55Speaker 1: We got to work. We got to keep working.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And we will.
- 42:58Speaker 2: You work very hard.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Yes, I do. And I just, but I, I have
- 43:02Speaker 1: to crank it out myself. I think that's also too
- 43:04Speaker 1: with somebody knows what they work with me. Like I
- 43:06Speaker 1: am always going to create the opportunity and. And, you know,
- 43:10Speaker 1: I had great HR training and great customer service training
- 43:13Speaker 1: when I worked for SoulCycle. Now, mind you, I want
- 43:16Speaker 1: to side note. I worked every hospitality job. I have
- 43:19Speaker 1: also been an assistant. Probably should have led with that.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I've been an assistant. I've been a nanny. I have
- 43:24Speaker 1: worked every, I almost said hospital. Never worked in healthcare.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I have worked every restaurant job from like a back
- 43:32Speaker 1: waiter to a bar back to the bartender to the,
- 43:34Speaker 1: you know, like I've done all of it. So I
- 43:37Speaker 1: am one thing.
- 43:38Speaker 2: That's why.
- 43:38Speaker 1: That's why I'm like this. I'm not like, oh, I've
- 43:41Speaker 1: never worked. I know I've hustled. So for me, and
- 43:45Speaker 1: one thing that they used to always say at SoulCycle
- 43:46Speaker 1: is find a yes. I don't need a no. I'm
- 43:50Speaker 1: not going to like throw something like, you know, I
- 43:52Speaker 1: want to like, like no is no, but always finding
- 43:54Speaker 1: a yes. Like, okay, if this doesn't work, we got
- 43:56Speaker 1: to pivot and figure out how to make it happen. Right. That's,
- 43:58Speaker 1: that's important to me because that's how I feel with
- 44:00Speaker 1: people I do business with. I'm like, let's find a yes.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Let's figure it out.
- 44:03Speaker 2: There's no such thing as no, but if redirect and
- 44:06Speaker 2: figure out a solution.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:08Speaker 1: But if it's also 2 a.m. and I'm like, you know,
- 44:11Speaker 1: can we order another pizza? You tell me no. Assistant. Assistant.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Whoever's listening.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Yeah, be like, hey, girl, I've got your GLP-1 shot
- 44:19Speaker 1: teed up. We do not need a deep dish pizza
- 44:22Speaker 1: because you took a gummy, you know?
- 44:23Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Well, I do really think anyone who wants to work
- 44:27Speaker 2: in entertainment has to come from a hospitality background, has
- 44:30Speaker 2: to have nannied. I nannied my entire family. middle school,
- 44:33Speaker 2: high school, college, like at Georgetown, I had five kids
- 44:36Speaker 2: in the back of a minivan, like driving around. Like
- 44:38Speaker 2: that was my vibe. Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Always.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I loved it. It really taught me. So it taught
- 44:44Speaker 2: me how to be an assistant because I was always
- 44:45Speaker 2: in a family home. I was always around someone else's
- 44:48Speaker 2: like family dynamic and figure out when to like go
- 44:51Speaker 2: in the other room, when to be present, if they
- 44:53Speaker 2: were having a tense moment, when to like, like social
- 44:56Speaker 2: cues really. And then customer service, it's like learning different personalities,
- 45:01Speaker 2: how to work with people, how to, Like, people are
- 45:03Speaker 2: going to treat you like shit if you're in a restaurant,
- 45:05Speaker 2: no matter what, or in a store, and you gain
- 45:08Speaker 2: thick skin.
- 45:09Speaker 1: They still treat me like shit in the restaurant and
- 45:12Speaker 1: the store. Literally, I got pretty woman on Rodeo Drive
- 45:15Speaker 1: three days ago, and I was like, big mistake, huge.
- 45:19Speaker 1: You know, and I don't like that. Like, I'm also
- 45:21Speaker 1: too like, no, no, no, you're sitting at the table.
- 45:23Speaker 1: We're having, we're breaking bread. We're having a meal. Like,
- 45:26Speaker 1: that would be my thing where it's like, no one's
- 45:28Speaker 1: in the background. You're on the team. You're with us.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I even get, listen. I don't even like when my
- 45:34Speaker 1: publicists come to things, like interviews, it's taken me a
- 45:36Speaker 1: long time to be like, it's okay, if I'm filming something,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I'm like, you guys don't need to be here, I'm fine. Well,
- 45:42Speaker 1: if we need to edit it, we edit it. And
- 45:43Speaker 1: they were finally like, Heather, you pay us money to
- 45:46Speaker 1: be here, to listen, to see if you say something insane.
- 45:50Speaker 2: You might want to keep us around.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:52Speaker 1: And then the other day I did an interview and
- 45:53Speaker 1: I was again, tired and the lights were dimming and
- 45:55Speaker 1: I probably said something insane, but I'm a comic. So
- 45:58Speaker 1: I'm always just like, it's always funny to me. And
- 46:00Speaker 1: then they're like, so thank God we're here. Cause we're
- 46:03Speaker 1: going to do a quick snip of the edit. I
- 46:04Speaker 1: was like, all right, good. Yeah.
- 46:07Speaker 2: But that even goes to show like it's been you
- 46:08Speaker 2: and Tina for so long. So to have all these
- 46:11Speaker 2: as your life and career gets bigger to have all
- 46:12Speaker 2: these extra players who are now added into the mix
- 46:14Speaker 2: being like, oh yeah, I actually do need them here
- 46:16Speaker 2: for that. Or they should be in this room. Like
- 46:18Speaker 2: that must be, that must've been an adjustment.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it was, it was. And you know, with, especially
- 46:24Speaker 1: in like comedy too, you need somebody who can understand
- 46:28Speaker 1: who's comfortable with like the social media of it all.
- 46:31Speaker 1: And like, I have a social media team, but you're like, okay,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I got to shoot this thing real quick. Or I've
- 46:35Speaker 1: got to, it's just somebody who can really pivot and
- 46:38Speaker 1: be I would say like put a strap on a
- 46:40Speaker 1: pair of rollerblades and be able to scoot around and
- 46:42Speaker 1: figure it out.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Cause that's assistant. Assistant.
- 46:45Speaker 2: JD.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Assistant. We need the assistant. So good.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 46:50Speaker 3: So.
- 46:51Speaker 2: What would your, my last question, what would your advice
- 46:54Speaker 2: be to someone who wants to become a you and
- 46:57Speaker 2: work in entertainment? I mean, your career is really just,
- 47:00Speaker 2: it's popping off. I'm so proud of you. You really
- 47:05Speaker 2: do work so hard, and no one on this podcast
- 47:07Speaker 2: will think you're lazy, as per our little bit about
- 47:11Speaker 2: that earlier. I'm so blown away.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I think you have to have tenacity and thick skin,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and I think being an assistant is, And working all
- 47:20Speaker 1: those jobs beforehand, you've got to create your own opportunity though.
- 47:23Speaker 1: You can't sit back. I think 99% of people who
- 47:26Speaker 1: want to be in this business or any business in general,
- 47:29Speaker 1: it's the fear of failing. All right. So you don't
- 47:31Speaker 1: like my shtick. You got to be a little cringy.
- 47:34Speaker 1: You got to just like, let it rip. And I
- 47:36Speaker 1: think there's so many talented people out there that sit
- 47:38Speaker 1: on the couch and it's not from a lazy, it's
- 47:40Speaker 1: from like a sense of fear. And I don't know
- 47:42Speaker 1: if I'm just have some sort of mental illness or
- 47:44Speaker 1: I'm just out of my mind, but I just, I'm like,
- 47:46Speaker 1: let's just go for it. What's the worst that's going
- 47:48Speaker 1: to happen? Somebody makes a comment online and they're like, oh,
- 47:50Speaker 1: I hate this bitch. Yeah. I don't like you either, Mike. Like,
- 47:53Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. And we're all our own
- 47:56Speaker 1: worst enemy and biggest critic, but it's just, I would
- 47:59Speaker 1: so much rather have gone for something and it didn't
- 48:01Speaker 1: work than to sit back and be like, why didn't
- 48:03Speaker 1: I try?
- 48:03Speaker 2: A hundred percent.
- 48:04Speaker 1: You know? A hundred percent. And what an easy pivot
- 48:07Speaker 1: to say, all right, tried it, didn't work. Tried it,
- 48:10Speaker 1: didn't fulfill me. did it, hated it, loved it, whatever,
- 48:13Speaker 1: and then say, all right, next thing. To even be
- 48:16Speaker 1: able to say that, and I'm not trying to get preachy,
- 48:18Speaker 1: but to even to say that you tried something and
- 48:20Speaker 1: it didn't, what a fucking privilege to say you went
- 48:23Speaker 1: for it. And when opportunity meets preparation, you better be
- 48:27Speaker 1: there with your rollerblades on, ready to go.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 1: And find a yes, baby. Oh my God, I love it.
- 48:33Speaker 2: It's such good advice.
- 48:34Speaker 1: It is. And my best life advice I would tell somebody,
- 48:38Speaker 1: especially younger people if they're listening, You can't control what
- 48:41Speaker 1: happens to you. You can only control your attitude. And
- 48:43Speaker 1: I did not coin that term. I'm sure it's been
- 48:47Speaker 1: passed down for generations, but my dad used to say that.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Life is already hard. Life's going to be shitty. But
- 48:52Speaker 1: if you can go into something and say, all right,
- 48:54Speaker 1: this was a shitty experience, a shitty traumatic event, but
- 48:57Speaker 1: how can I pivot from this or how can I
- 48:58Speaker 1: work through it and still maintain a optimistic attitude if
- 49:04Speaker 1: you can, that's so important.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Feel very strongly about that.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Oh my God, I love that. Yeah. I love that.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Because shit's going to happen.
- 49:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:12Speaker 1: But how you handle it. Yeah. Is the most important.
- 49:14Speaker 2: I'm similar to you. I I, I try to wake
- 49:16Speaker 2: up positive every day because I'm like, you know what?
- 49:19Speaker 2: Like now I have a team who reports into me.
- 49:21Speaker 2: So it's like, I have to be positive for my
- 49:23Speaker 2: team and kind of like, you know, always imagine going
- 49:27Speaker 2: to work and your boss is in a bad mood.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Your boss looks like they're having a bad day. What
- 49:30Speaker 2: are you going to be like? Oh my God, is
- 49:31Speaker 2: our business not doing well? Or like, am I getting fired?
- 49:33Speaker 2: Or like, what's her deal? Yeah. I want to be
- 49:35Speaker 2: the person that people that make people excited to come
- 49:37Speaker 2: to work.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Same.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:39Speaker 1: But they also say, because you're a boss, we can
- 49:41Speaker 1: talk about this, it's kind of lonely at the top.
- 49:43Speaker 1: When you're the one having to make the calls and
- 49:45Speaker 1: actually look at the red line, the sheet, to be like,
- 49:48Speaker 1: can we afford this? How much are we spending? Those
- 49:50Speaker 1: kind of things. When you're running a business and you
- 49:52Speaker 1: are employing people, there's a lot of responsibility there, so
- 49:56Speaker 1: I get it. And there are days where you're like, shit,
- 49:59Speaker 1: I am too very much so. I want to keep
- 50:02Speaker 1: everybody happy, and I've had to take a step back.
- 50:04Speaker 1: And this is no shade on my team or anybody
- 50:08Speaker 1: I work with. But it's just like some days I've
- 50:10Speaker 1: had to be like, okay, it's okay to be selfish
- 50:11Speaker 1: a little bit today and then just focus on what
- 50:13Speaker 1: I got to do.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Yeah, 100% because it'll just make you show up better
- 50:16Speaker 2: the next day.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%.
- 50:17Speaker 2: That's it.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Look at us. All right, who wants to work for me?
- 50:20Speaker 1: I'll do a quick right to camera. Hello, everybody. I'm
- 50:23Speaker 1: Heather McMahon. These are my non-negotiables. You have to love
- 50:25Speaker 1: French Bulldogs. You have to always have a little piece
- 50:27Speaker 1: of Parmigiano-Reggiano and like maybe a cheese grater in your
- 50:31Speaker 1: back pocket. I need like one cigarette and a Coke
- 50:35Speaker 1: Zero and just fun attitude. And if you like the
- 50:38Speaker 1: Housewives and want to giggle and, you know, can catch
- 50:40Speaker 1: me up to speed if I miss an episode, that's
- 50:42Speaker 1: a plus. Oh, and I also get headaches randomly sometimes.
- 50:46Speaker 1: So whatever. Throw an Excedrin at me.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Excedrin and cheese grater in your assistant backpack.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Excedrin and Parmigiano-Reggiano. That's it. It's not that difficult. I'm
- 50:54Speaker 1: very easy.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Resumes to Clyde at ClydeStaffing.com.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Jack Lyne, Heather McMahon.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Period.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Bye, guys. Thanks for tuning in. Oh, wait. And your
- 51:03Speaker 2: Netflix special.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Oh, no, it's on Hulu.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 51:06Speaker 1: How dare you?
- 51:06Speaker 2: We'll cut that.
- 51:07Speaker 1: No, no, no. That's great. No, actually, I'm going to
- 51:09Speaker 1: the Netflix party tonight, and they reposted a clip from
- 51:12Speaker 1: my other special that was licensed to Netflix, and now
- 51:14Speaker 1: it's licensed at Hulu. And I literally responded online. I
- 51:17Speaker 1: was like, hi, you can find this on Hulu, not Netflix.
- 51:20Speaker 1: I don't even know. Their HR department didn't realize I'm
- 51:22Speaker 1: not also on Netflix.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 51:24Speaker 1: No, but new special comes out October 16th, and I
- 51:27Speaker 1: don't know when this airs, but October 16th. And it's
- 51:29Speaker 1: called By a Thread. And actually, if you watch the special,
- 51:32Speaker 1: the entire special is about how I am literally being
- 51:35Speaker 1: held together with like duct tape right now and how
- 51:38Speaker 1: we're all hanging on by a thread. So actually, if
- 51:40Speaker 1: you watch this, actually, somebody may not want to be
- 51:43Speaker 1: my assistant after this. I just recuperated from a neck job.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I got canceled for a hot second. My husband got
- 51:48Speaker 1: a kidney stone. We're actually, the house is on fire.
- 51:51Speaker 1: So maybe don't watch the special.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Be transparent.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Watch the special. We are.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:56Speaker 2: She's a delight. And that assistant, whoever you are, listening, whatever,
