In which Mr. Hoopdriver and Jessie, pursued by a determined pursuer, seek refuge in a quiet village inn, only to encounter unkind remarks that provoke Mr. Hoopdriver into a spirited defence of a lady’s honour amidst the company of local boors. With a mixture of aristocratic dignity and unexpected boldness, he confronts the offenders, culminating in an unaccustomed and rather comic duel of fists that tests the mettle of this reluctant knight errant.
