Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second to day
- 0:08Speaker 1: three wide receivers now in motion has Bumpas left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpfeck's looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. You
- 0:33Speaker 1: are listening to Hawk Talk Recap edition. The Seahawks fall
- 0:37Speaker 1: to the Titans thirty three to thirty and overtime in
- 0:41Speaker 1: the home opener. Was a tough game. Disappointed, but you
- 0:44Speaker 1: live and you learn, and like we always do, let's
- 0:47Speaker 1: get into the trenches and talk some football with Ray Roberts.
- 0:52Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk
- 0:55Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. Big Ray. These Hawks lose to the Titans
- 1:01Speaker 1: thirty three to thirty and over timing and dramatic fashion.
- 1:03Speaker 1: They had chances to put this game away. They allowed
- 1:07Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans to hang around. But during the post
- 1:10Speaker 1: game show we talked in you saw a difference in
- 1:13Speaker 1: the offensive approach. Explain to the people what that was. Yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 1: it was just you know, then the first week, you know,
- 1:20Speaker 1: we were really excited about how they made the defense
- 1:23Speaker 1: to defend the entire field. So you had the deep
- 1:25Speaker 1: passes to Locket and against the Colts, you had you know,
- 1:30Speaker 1: using the tight end. We ran the ball well, we
- 1:32Speaker 1: used a lot of motion, like pre snap motion and
- 1:36Speaker 1: at the snap movement to kind of create some timing
- 1:39Speaker 1: to get the run game going. And Chris Carson had
- 1:42Speaker 1: you know, close to one hundred yards rushing, and Russell
- 1:44Speaker 1: had a big day. Tyler Lockett had a big day.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Gerald Everts scored a touchdown. I think we completed passes
- 1:49Speaker 1: to seven different receivers and running back and so it
- 1:54Speaker 1: just felt like there was like this offense that could
- 1:57Speaker 1: overwhelm a defense just purely on the play call, you know,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and and distributing the ball to different people. And then
- 2:04Speaker 1: yesterday it just it just felt like, uh, they just
- 2:07Speaker 1: abandoned that idea and uh like we just kind of
- 2:11Speaker 1: lined up and it felt like we're kind of playing
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm tougher than you football and not really using some
- 2:18Speaker 1: of the weapons that we had. Now. Part of that is,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, maybe the defense was doing something to take
- 2:24Speaker 1: those things away. But then my response to that would be, man,
- 2:28Speaker 1: like the best offenses in the league, they dictate to
- 2:31Speaker 1: the defense, and so I felt like that Sea also
- 2:33Speaker 1: building an offense that could that could do that. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: so I felt yesterday we kind of played their game
- 2:39Speaker 1: and they were better at playing their game than we were. Uh,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and that was mostly in the running game. In the
- 2:45Speaker 1: passing game, you I mean, yeah, there was some some miscuse,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the at the end
- 2:50Speaker 1: of the game, some mishits, but and Russell may have
- 2:52Speaker 1: missed a touchdown pass the title locket, you know, like
- 2:55Speaker 1: later in the game. But um, but uh, for the
- 2:59Speaker 1: most part that game, you know, they the deep ball
- 3:01Speaker 1: was working, DK was working the sidelines, and some of
- 3:04Speaker 1: the intermediate passes we didn't get to tight ends involved
- 3:07Speaker 1: and the running backs involved as much. But but you
- 3:10Speaker 1: can see some you know, some some continuation of the
- 3:13Speaker 1: passing game. It just it just felt like it was
- 3:15Speaker 1: two different offensive approaches from one week to the next.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And that was that's a little disappointing. Yeah, I could
- 3:21Speaker 1: see where you're coming from. Chris Carson didn't touch the
- 3:24Speaker 1: ball as much as he'd like to, only half thirty
- 3:26Speaker 1: one rushing yards. We didn't see a lot of the
- 3:28Speaker 1: pre snap movement that we were used to seeing. But
- 3:31Speaker 1: we knew days like this they're gonna come. We're talking
- 3:34Speaker 1: about this offense and being a little disappointed, but they
- 3:36Speaker 1: still put up thirty points, right, so yeah, we're doing
- 3:40Speaker 1: some things right. It just wasn't what we thought we
- 3:42Speaker 1: were going to see. Now. Defensively, it was a tale
- 3:45Speaker 1: of two halves, right. The first half you go in
- 3:48Speaker 1: to halftime is twenty forty nine. You see Pete Carroll
- 3:51Speaker 1: hyping up the crowd all as well, you're feeling good.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Second half number twenty two, Derek Henry got going. What
- 3:57Speaker 1: you see out of him? Yeah, you know, the thing is,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you know, doing the post game, you know, we kept
- 4:03Speaker 1: asking players like what changed in the second half to
- 4:06Speaker 1: where he was able to run the ball when it
- 4:08Speaker 1: seemed like you had him bottled up in the first half.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But the thing is, and we you know I try
- 4:13Speaker 1: to speak to this in the pregame, is that that's
- 4:15Speaker 1: just how he works. I can remember watching the games
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know last year and teams that have them bottled
- 4:21Speaker 1: up in the first half, but somewhere between, somewhere around
- 4:23Speaker 1: midway to the third quarter, they just stay committed to
- 4:26Speaker 1: what they were doing and then all of a sudden,
- 4:28Speaker 1: he breaks a long winning that breaks open their their games.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So you could say, well, you take away that that
- 4:33Speaker 1: one long run, and you know what do you have
- 4:36Speaker 1: then when he's still averaged over four yards to carry
- 4:38Speaker 1: on those other twenty one carry So the first half
- 4:41Speaker 1: he's only averaging in less than three yards to carry.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So that's just kind of what he does. And they
- 4:46Speaker 1: make you stay committed to stopping him as long as
- 4:49Speaker 1: they are committed to doing it. And and so I
- 4:52Speaker 1: think we had to take some chances. Maybe we felt
- 4:55Speaker 1: the running game was kind of coming downhill on the defense,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and then you lose a little gap control you have
- 5:00Speaker 1: a sixty plus yard touchdown. So I think, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 1: the biggest thing with the Seahawks who were on defense
- 5:06Speaker 1: was obviously having to stop the run, but getting themselves
- 5:09Speaker 1: off the field, whether it was them picking up you know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: the third down conversions weren't all that great, but you know,
- 5:16Speaker 1: they were picking up big yardage first downs on second
- 5:19Speaker 1: down or penalties that were allowing the drive to stay alive,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and so the defense just could not get itself off
- 5:25Speaker 1: the field to get the offense back on the field.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And then when the offense was on the field, man,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I think in the second half, as long as the
- 5:31Speaker 1: drive was like five minutes and I think they only
- 5:33Speaker 1: had the ball one and that was the one time
- 5:35Speaker 1: they had the ball in the third quarter and the
- 5:37Speaker 1: fourth quarted, offense couldn't say on the field three and
- 5:39Speaker 1: out in less than two minutes for the rest of
- 5:41Speaker 1: their drives there mostly so just a little to me.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I don't want to say it's a crisis, but there
- 5:47Speaker 1: is a little identity crisis, like, Okay, who are we
- 5:50Speaker 1: going to show it to be every week on defense?
- 5:53Speaker 1: And then who are we going to show it to
- 5:54Speaker 1: be every week on offense? And I think the sooner
- 5:56Speaker 1: you figured that out, the better. Yeah, feel you right?
- 6:00Speaker 1: I feel like on defense. I mean, we listened to
- 6:02Speaker 1: Bobby Talk, we listened to Jamal last night, Pete Carrol,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and the common thing was gap integrity, right being sound
- 6:09Speaker 1: when it comes to the gaps and what people don't
- 6:10Speaker 1: realize there's ABC and there's d gaps out there when
- 6:13Speaker 1: you tuck to that offensive line and every player everyone's
- 6:17Speaker 1: responsible for a gap unless're sitting guys on blitz and
- 6:20Speaker 1: twist and all that stuff. And against a runner like
- 6:23Speaker 1: Derrick Henry, you just have to do your job and
- 6:26Speaker 1: do it even though he's getting downhill on you. So
- 6:28Speaker 1: maybe that has something to do with it. Okay, so
- 6:31Speaker 1: we're gonna flush the Tennessee Titans. That was a good
- 6:34Speaker 1: football team. I mean, Julio Jones came out, he had
- 6:36Speaker 1: a day, Ryan Tannehill played these Derrick Henry got going.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Now we're gonna look forward to the Minnesota Vikings. This
- 6:42Speaker 1: is a team that is sneaky every year. Like even
- 6:45Speaker 1: when you just look at the logo, you don't really
- 6:46Speaker 1: take it too serious. Vikings, you know the same, the
- 6:49Speaker 1: same when they have Brett Farvin that that championship run.
- 6:53Speaker 1: This is Kirk Cousins, this is Adam Thieleis is Justin Jefferson,
- 6:56Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook. They still got some guys on this team. Um,
- 7:00Speaker 1: what what concerns you about this team or what's on
- 7:02Speaker 1: the scouting report? Well, to me, their offense is real
- 7:06Speaker 1: similar to to what they what they just saw in Tennessee.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's just a different type of running back you know.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Uh they have they have receivers on the outside they
- 7:14Speaker 1: can do some damage. Uh, and they have a running
- 7:16Speaker 1: back that can put up a lot of yards. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: last year we played on their backup rushed for over
- 7:21Speaker 1: one hundred yards and Dalvin Cook was injured but still
- 7:23Speaker 1: rushed for sixty yards. So, uh, this the defensive game
- 7:27Speaker 1: plan is gonna have to come and be the same
- 7:28Speaker 1: as you know, the gap integrity been aggressive making tackles, uh,
- 7:32Speaker 1: you know, getting guys to the grounds. Uh, and then
- 7:35Speaker 1: also just trying to get pressure on the quarterback with
- 7:38Speaker 1: having without having a blitz so you can play better coverage.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So that to me, the defensive approach shouldn't change this
- 7:44Speaker 1: week just because they don't have a six four children
- 7:47Speaker 1: fifty pound running back. Uh. Their their approach who is
- 7:51Speaker 1: still going to be to be the same thing. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: then offensively, I just think we just have to get
- 7:55Speaker 1: back to, uh, you know what we saw in that
- 7:58Speaker 1: first game, like just some of that type of offense,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, some of that uh you know, spreading the
- 8:04Speaker 1: ball around and getting everybody involved on the fly sweep.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We didn't see one single fly sweep. There's only one
- 8:10Speaker 1: target to a tight end, and we were talking in
- 8:12Speaker 1: a pregame about you know, there were at one point
- 8:15Speaker 1: in the first game those four straight passes a tight ends,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and so so the offense just needs to get back
- 8:21Speaker 1: to that. And I think, you know, maybe they were
- 8:24Speaker 1: trying to look at other aspects of the offense and
- 8:26Speaker 1: how that runs and thinking that that was gonna be
- 8:29Speaker 1: get game plan for for yesterday, and it didn't work out.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So maybe there's a combination of the two games that
- 8:34Speaker 1: we've seen so far. So whatever that is, I think
- 8:38Speaker 1: that's the offense that needs to show up on Sunday
- 8:40Speaker 1: against against the Vikings, because I feel if you're spreading
- 8:43Speaker 1: the ball around and you're running the you know, having
- 8:46Speaker 1: all the movement, you get to running game going. You know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you have the short game going, you have the deep ball,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it seems like no one can stop lock it on.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Then you're really truly making this defense have to defend
- 8:57Speaker 1: every inch of the field. And and to me, that
- 9:01Speaker 1: is when this office is going to be the best.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I agree with your big Ray, Well, here's the good
- 9:05Speaker 1: here's a good thing. Right, they gotta win and they
- 9:08Speaker 1: have a loss. Yet two sets of film to look
- 9:11Speaker 1: at to figure out who they are. I think that's
- 9:13Speaker 1: the message that you're sending. I agree with your big
- 9:15Speaker 1: ray Man. Appreciate your time, Homie, yesh third, go Hawks.
- 9:21Speaker 1: All right, let's bring get Nasa Chobin now and talk
- 9:24Speaker 1: about what happened in our first segment, lovely segment. What
- 9:27Speaker 1: had happened? See what had happened at first? What had
- 9:33Speaker 1: happened was un huh. What had happened was man bump.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Sunday did not turn out the way the Seahawks and
- 9:41Speaker 1: the rest of us imagine, as they fell to the
- 9:43Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans thirty three to thirty and the home opener
- 9:47Speaker 1: in overtime. The Titans snap the seahawks thirteen game home
- 9:50Speaker 1: opener winning streak. That's the first home loss and the
- 9:53Speaker 1: home opener since two thousand and eight. Rinch, you on
- 9:56Speaker 1: the roster that year. I was on that team. Mass
- 9:59Speaker 1: who it's a big It's been a hot minute, man,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and honestly, you guys alluded to it. Man. It was
- 10:03Speaker 1: the tail of two halves. Seahawks were up twenty four
- 10:05Speaker 1: to nine in the first half. Big play after big
- 10:08Speaker 1: play on offense, and they held Derreck Henry in check.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So in the first half, Derek Henry had thirteen carries
- 10:14Speaker 1: for just thirty five yards, averaging two point seven yards
- 10:17Speaker 1: a carry. You knew he was gonna come in. They're
- 10:20Speaker 1: gonna give him the football a ton, and the Seahawks
- 10:23Speaker 1: were up to the challenge. They shut him down in
- 10:24Speaker 1: the first half, and then the second half came along
- 10:28Speaker 1: and that's when that man went off. He ended the
- 10:30Speaker 1: day with one hundred and eighty two yards on thirty
- 10:33Speaker 1: five carries and three touchdowns. Just in the second half alone,
- 10:36Speaker 1: he had seventeen carries for one hundred and twenty six yards,
- 10:39Speaker 1: including one sixty yard touchdown. That was the most yards
- 10:42Speaker 1: ever given up in the Pete Carroll Air by one player.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That happened against Adrian Peterson back in twenty twelve. So
- 10:48Speaker 1: it was disappointing. I mean, I think anytime you're playing
- 10:51Speaker 1: at louman Field and you're up double digit points in
- 10:54Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, you think that game's over. You know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's all about head coach Pete Carroll preaches is all
- 10:59Speaker 1: about the ball, and it's all about winning the game
- 11:01Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. And unfortunately on Sunday, the Seahawks
- 11:03Speaker 1: came up a little short came up a little short.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You mentioned Derek Henry guy going in the second half.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The Seahawks gave up five hundred and thirty two yards
- 11:11Speaker 1: of total OFFENSEE. Also, the Titans had the ball forty
- 11:15Speaker 1: two minutes to the Seahawks twenty two. Battan right there.
- 11:18Speaker 1: This is let you know that the Titans were sustaining drives.
- 11:21Speaker 1: They are putting drives together, controlling the tempo, doing what
- 11:24Speaker 1: they had to do. Titans also had thirty three first
- 11:26Speaker 1: downs to the Seahawks seventeen. I think that stat is
- 11:30Speaker 1: it's kind of misleading because the Hawks were making plays.
- 11:33Speaker 1: They're just making big plays. When they scored, there was
- 11:35Speaker 1: three plays, four or five plays. Let's go up top
- 11:38Speaker 1: and let's get off the field. So just different approaches
- 11:41Speaker 1: to this game. The Seahawks were the banger bus type
- 11:44Speaker 1: team and the Titans were the Okay, let's sustain these
- 11:47Speaker 1: drives and keep going. Ah It was frustrating to watch, yes,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and if you are a Hawks fan, it's the first
- 11:53Speaker 1: time they've lost that home in the home over since
- 11:55Speaker 1: two thousand and eight. But they did do some good things. Man,
- 11:59Speaker 1: we see we saw Tyre Lockett. We're gonna talk about
- 12:01Speaker 1: him in the playmakers, he makes some big plays. Russell
- 12:03Speaker 1: Wilson looked good early, defense looked good early. I think
- 12:05Speaker 1: it's all about putting it all together now, right, having
- 12:09Speaker 1: a full game of what we saw yesterday. So let's
- 12:13Speaker 1: highlight some players now because there were some positives out
- 12:16Speaker 1: there and our playmakers playmakers well like we usually do.
- 12:29Speaker 1: In this segment, we got to start it off with
- 12:31Speaker 1: a quarterback at number three, Russell Wilson. He went twenty
- 12:34Speaker 1: two for thirty one with three hundred and forty three yards,
- 12:37Speaker 1: two touchdowns and once again zero interceptions. And thing with
- 12:41Speaker 1: russ Man, he was cooking in that first half. He
- 12:44Speaker 1: was doing everything that he needed to do. He was
- 12:46Speaker 1: finding big play after big play, getting a lot of
- 12:48Speaker 1: help from the receiving corps. And the difference is in
- 12:52Speaker 1: that second half, like you said, the Seahawks inabilities, the
- 12:55Speaker 1: same drives is what really hurt. When you only have
- 12:58Speaker 1: the ball once in the third quarter, and then you
- 12:59Speaker 1: have the ball with a chance to win the game
- 13:01Speaker 1: and overtime you go backwards to go three and out,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you pump from your one yard line and at that
- 13:06Speaker 1: point in overtime get you get the Titan started that
- 13:10Speaker 1: drive on like the fifty plus, so it's gonna be
- 13:11Speaker 1: really hard to keep anyone out of the end zone there.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But Russell Wilson's still doing his staying over three hundred
- 13:17Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. Russell took care of
- 13:20Speaker 1: their rock. That's a positive. Now, Tyler Lockett another big game,
- 13:24Speaker 1: eight receptions, one hundred and seventy eight yards, one touchdowns.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yesterday's performance was Tyler Locke's twelfth career one hundred yard
- 13:31Speaker 1: game back to back this year so far weeks one
- 13:33Speaker 1: and two. Lockett is the fourth players is nineteen ninety
- 13:36Speaker 1: to record multiple touchdowns receptions of at least sixty yards,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and it seems first two games of the season guests
- 13:42Speaker 1: was on that list. Steve Smith Junior all right, sorry,
- 13:45Speaker 1: senior se Smith, senior, Randy Moss, and Jerry Rice. That's
- 13:49Speaker 1: some good company right there. Number sixteen. This finds a way.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I mentioned this in the post game, like he has
- 13:55Speaker 1: his own style the way he does things man, and
- 13:58Speaker 1: it's impressive to see a guy his size continue to
- 14:01Speaker 1: make the big man plays. You can always count on
- 14:04Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett to be where he's supposed to be to
- 14:07Speaker 1: make the tough catch, and then the run after the
- 14:09Speaker 1: catch is good too. He makes the toughest catches look easy.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Everything between him and Russell Wilson seems effortless. When Russell
- 14:15Speaker 1: throws those deep balls, Tyler Lockett finds a way to
- 14:19Speaker 1: position his body and just run right underneath it. He
- 14:22Speaker 1: gets behind defenders and again, you talked about this a lot.
- 14:26Speaker 1: He doesn't do it the same way other guys do it.
- 14:28Speaker 1: He has his own unique style, but man, he is
- 14:31Speaker 1: a tear in that open field, breaking people down soil.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett is doing his thing and his buddy who's
- 14:36Speaker 1: also playing well right now, Freddy Swayin. Freddy Swayne went
- 14:40Speaker 1: five receptions for ninety five yards in a touchdown. He
- 14:43Speaker 1: had that big long touchdown in a busted coverage. But
- 14:47Speaker 1: it's good to see him kind of step up and
- 14:48Speaker 1: emerges that number three receiver. Obviously d Esker has been
- 14:51Speaker 1: banged up. He was kind of a guy that we
- 14:53Speaker 1: thought might take over that role. But it's good to
- 14:54Speaker 1: see Freddy Swayin out there balling. The performer Chris Carson
- 14:59Speaker 1: thirteen cares for thirty one yards, not the amount of
- 15:01Speaker 1: carries that he would like. I think this guy needs
- 15:03Speaker 1: touch the ball twenty times. But he did have two touchdowns.
- 15:06Speaker 1: You know that when you get down to the red zone,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you can give it to number thirty two. He is
- 15:10Speaker 1: gonna fall forward now. Carson passes Ricky Waters for this
- 15:14Speaker 1: for sixth place on the Seattle's all time rushing touchdown
- 15:17Speaker 1: list with twenty three. He is a good running back.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I think they are going to figure out how to
- 15:22Speaker 1: get him the ball more and be more creative with him.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This week. He was disappointed that he didn't touch the
- 15:28Speaker 1: ball as much, and he should be disappointed. You want
- 15:31Speaker 1: your guys to be disappointed if they don't touch the
- 15:33Speaker 1: ball a lot because they want to make these plays.
- 15:35Speaker 1: But he still contributed. Chris Carson, I expect It's crazy.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I expect a bounce back game for him, even though
- 15:41Speaker 1: he had two touchdowns this week, absolutely, and all the
- 15:44Speaker 1: things about that was the opportunity, Like he talked about,
- 15:47Speaker 1: he only had four carries in the second half. So
- 15:49Speaker 1: for we know Chris Carson's game, it's similar to Derrick
- 15:51Speaker 1: Henry in the sense if he wears people down. Sometimes
- 15:54Speaker 1: it's a slow start, but by that second half, if
- 15:56Speaker 1: you've established that run, he really grinds on people and
- 15:59Speaker 1: he's hard to tackle a second half, So definitely looking
- 16:01Speaker 1: to see him get more involved next week against the Vikings.
- 16:04Speaker 1: But man, b Wags Man doing b wags things. Future
- 16:09Speaker 1: Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner twenty tackles, one tackle for loss,
- 16:13Speaker 1: one sack, two quarterback hits, and those twenty tackles were
- 16:16Speaker 1: not only a career high, but he said a franchise
- 16:19Speaker 1: record for a single game in tackles. Now, a lot
- 16:22Speaker 1: of people sometimes question how many tackles you have and
- 16:26Speaker 1: how that relates to how well you play it, and
- 16:27Speaker 1: if not, if you're making a lot of tackles down
- 16:30Speaker 1: the field, if you're making a lot of tackles in
- 16:31Speaker 1: the past game, But say what you want, man, anytime
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're twenty tackles in the National Football League, you're doing
- 16:37Speaker 1: your thing. You had a big time sack on third
- 16:39Speaker 1: down to Captain Maddie end Zone. He made another big
- 16:41Speaker 1: time stop in the overtime period. So Bobby Wagner, it's
- 16:44Speaker 1: just consistent. He is consistent. You know what you're gonna
- 16:48Speaker 1: get for him each and every week. So it's great
- 16:49Speaker 1: to see fifty four doing his thing. And you know
- 16:51Speaker 1: the best thing about what I heard from him a
- 16:54Speaker 1: post game was you know, they asked him about It's like, hey,
- 16:56Speaker 1: you just said a franchise record. You know, how does
- 16:57Speaker 1: that feel? He said, don't matter we loss, No, it
- 17:01Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I mean that's he loved that mentality because
- 17:03Speaker 1: it's not about stats and accolades. We love to talk
- 17:06Speaker 1: about him because it's easy for us. But Bobby Wagner,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it's good to see him. He has that dog mentality
- 17:11Speaker 1: and he kept showing out twenty tackles big day. All right,
- 17:14Speaker 1: those are our playmakers who get Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett,
- 17:16Speaker 1: Freddie Swain, Chris Carson, and Bobby Wagner. Now we're gonna
- 17:20Speaker 1: go to the receiver room with the receiver roundup. We
- 17:24Speaker 1: mentioned this guy already, Tyler Lockett eight catches, one hundred
- 17:27Speaker 1: and seventy eight yards, one touchdown and a long of
- 17:30Speaker 1: sixty three. Freddie Sway we mentioned him, five receptions ninety
- 17:34Speaker 1: five yards, one touchdown. DK. I wouldn't say an off
- 17:39Speaker 1: day for DK, but not the type of day that
- 17:41Speaker 1: we expected out of him. Six receptions, fifty three yards,
- 17:44Speaker 1: no touchdowns. But he did have eleven targets, so it's
- 17:47Speaker 1: not like they were not going to the man, right,
- 17:49Speaker 1: it just wasn't his day. It was Tyler Locke's day.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm sure they're gonna find ways to get him the
- 17:54Speaker 1: ball down the field. There's no way you're gonna have
- 17:56Speaker 1: that size and that speed and not use him down
- 17:59Speaker 1: the field. Yeah, it's interesting to see how teams were
- 18:01Speaker 1: covering him this year. I mean, I think now that
- 18:03Speaker 1: he's reached his elite status in the national football people
- 18:07Speaker 1: were gonna cover him differently. They're gonna do things to
- 18:09Speaker 1: take him away. And when that happens, guys like Tyler
- 18:12Speaker 1: Lockett ball out, Guys like Freddy Swain ball out. So
- 18:15Speaker 1: even when he has a day where he's six receptions
- 18:17Speaker 1: or fifty three yards, he's doing stuff to help Locket
- 18:20Speaker 1: get open. And at some point, you know, people were
- 18:23Speaker 1: looking at the Seahawks film the first two games just
- 18:25Speaker 1: like we're not giving getting beat deep by Tyler Lockett.
- 18:28Speaker 1: So people are gonna start game planning to take away
- 18:31Speaker 1: Locket because that's what's been killing him. So I would
- 18:33Speaker 1: look for DK to have some big games coming up.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Travis Homer had two receptions for fourteen yards. Gerald Everett
- 18:39Speaker 1: had one reception for three yards. Unfortunately, he's the only
- 18:43Speaker 1: tight end to make a reception and it wasn't a
- 18:45Speaker 1: big one. So hopefully next week we can kind of
- 18:48Speaker 1: get back to what we saw against the Colts, a
- 18:50Speaker 1: lot more tight end involvement, some tight end screens. It's
- 18:53Speaker 1: kind of different actions. I'd love to see Will Distally
- 18:55Speaker 1: get involved as well. You know, Kobe Parkins shouldn't should
- 18:58Speaker 1: be coming back soon, so he's gonna had some more
- 19:00Speaker 1: receiving threat to that tight end room. So overall hoping
- 19:04Speaker 1: that those guys have a bigger game. But in summary,
- 19:06Speaker 1: man the wide receivers definitely balled out on Sunday. Wide
- 19:10Speaker 1: receivers did their thing. Speaking of wide receivers, we're going
- 19:12Speaker 1: to the coach's corner. We're gonna break down to play
- 19:14Speaker 1: the play we're breaking down this week. Tyler Locket is
- 19:17Speaker 1: sixty three yard touchdown from Russell Wilson wide slot, far
- 19:21Speaker 1: side Russ play fake be chase, Now he looks now,
- 19:23Speaker 1: he throws back. It's Tyler Locket. Waits makes the catch,
- 19:27Speaker 1: bunch a tackle, thirty twenty five backup touching Tag Finn touchdown,
- 19:33Speaker 1: Tyler Locket touchdown, Seahawks A sixty three yarder. The Tyler
- 19:40Speaker 1: Locket stop started, broke a tackle and then broke the
- 19:45Speaker 1: tape at the finish line like he was winning the
- 19:48Speaker 1: hundred in the Olympics. The building is rocking and the
- 19:52Speaker 1: Seahawks go on top nine to six. What a big
- 19:58Speaker 1: play from Tyler Lockett is in the second quarter, six minutes,
- 20:02Speaker 1: fifty one seconds left on the clock. And what happens
- 20:04Speaker 1: here is you got a motion by the tight end
- 20:08Speaker 1: gets to the other side of the formation, gets him
- 20:10Speaker 1: in like a trips look. Tyler is the number two receiver.
- 20:12Speaker 1: That means he's inside the two receivers, one outside of him,
- 20:16Speaker 1: one inside of him. And what really sells us there's
- 20:18Speaker 1: a play fake to Chris Carson and Russell starts to
- 20:20Speaker 1: roll to his right like he likes to do. Typically,
- 20:24Speaker 1: when you're rolling to your right, you're gonna put somebody
- 20:26Speaker 1: on a corner route for the outlet. But what Russell
- 20:28Speaker 1: does it it's a half roll, all right, We're selling
- 20:31Speaker 1: that I'm gonna roll to the right and hit back corner.
- 20:33Speaker 1: He half rolls and he looks for Tyler Lockett. What
- 20:36Speaker 1: Tyler does a great job of doing is selling that
- 20:39Speaker 1: corner rout. He turns his shoulders to the sideline like
- 20:42Speaker 1: he's gonna be that corner guy. So at the same
- 20:44Speaker 1: time Russell Wilson is half rolling and stopping. Tyler sells
- 20:47Speaker 1: a corner, then snaps his shoulders back to the other
- 20:50Speaker 1: side of the field and kind of makes it into
- 20:52Speaker 1: a deep cross and Russell just tosses it up there. Now,
- 20:56Speaker 1: former teammate Bradley McDougall takes a horrible angle out that
- 20:59Speaker 1: safety five, Tyler makes guys miss puts on the Jets,
- 21:03Speaker 1: gets in the end zone. Just another day at the
- 21:05Speaker 1: office for Tyler Locket. Tyler Lockett sixteen is just so
- 21:08Speaker 1: smooth and he's taking out a couple of people with
- 21:11Speaker 1: Seattle ties. Elijah Mold in the corner on that play
- 21:13Speaker 1: is the one you had him in coverage. And then
- 21:15Speaker 1: former Seahawk who started a lot of games here, Bradley McDougall,
- 21:18Speaker 1: like you said, took a bad angle, but it's just
- 21:20Speaker 1: the way he's able to stop start get going. He
- 21:23Speaker 1: is sneak. I mean, we know he's fast, we know that,
- 21:27Speaker 1: but he's football fast, right, He's fast in the forty
- 21:31Speaker 1: but when he's on the football field, he's a different
- 21:33Speaker 1: kind of level and he just has that shake, just
- 21:35Speaker 1: spop and then oh, McDougall's like, oh no, bad, angle
- 21:39Speaker 1: overruns it and now you're gonna get a earfull from
- 21:42Speaker 1: the coaching staff on your way back to the sideline.
- 21:44Speaker 1: But Tyler Locket, man, he's smooth. It's crazy when Russell
- 21:48Speaker 1: throws these footballs and they hang in the air for
- 21:50Speaker 1: a while. Sometimes it feels like it's up there too long,
- 21:52Speaker 1: but the timing is always good with these man, I
- 21:55Speaker 1: don't I don't know. Of course they practiced this stuff,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but the field that Russell Wilson has thrown these deep footballs,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and then the sneakiness that you talk about Tyler Locket
- 22:06Speaker 1: when it comes to running these routes to being where
- 22:07Speaker 1: he's supposed to be. It's definitely fun to watch. Lost
- 22:11Speaker 1: the game, but that was a bright spot. And typically
- 22:14Speaker 1: a lot of the times most of the season, we
- 22:16Speaker 1: get into the victory formation to end this show. But
- 22:19Speaker 1: this week, Nas, the clock just ran out on us,
- 22:24Speaker 1: on me taking the fire Huntley. They're just gonna let
- 22:27Speaker 1: the clock wind down, preach, not even gonna bother taking
- 22:29Speaker 1: that last time out up the clock ran out on
- 22:33Speaker 1: the Seahawks, and honestly, it came down to you can
- 22:36Speaker 1: say this almost every single week. Most games in the
- 22:39Speaker 1: Nashal Football League come down to a handful of place
- 22:41Speaker 1: and Sunday was no different. The Seahawks just didn't make
- 22:43Speaker 1: enough plays in the second half, gave up too many
- 22:46Speaker 1: rushing yards. You know, you're going into the game that
- 22:47Speaker 1: you couldn't let Derek Henry get going. And honestly, it
- 22:50Speaker 1: came down to that six yard run. Right, you go up,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you go up, fourteen, You're in the fourth quarter, you're
- 22:55Speaker 1: feeling really good about everything. Two plays letter, Derek Henry's
- 22:58Speaker 1: in the end zone. Didn't do a great job of
- 23:01Speaker 1: force on that play, and he gets outside and he's gone.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Once he's an open field, he's gone. And then you
- 23:05Speaker 1: compound that with a three and out. That's where the
- 23:08Speaker 1: game shifted, right in that moment. If the Seahawks were
- 23:10Speaker 1: able to put together a drive on that next one,
- 23:12Speaker 1: you know, the game is still in hand, grind some clock,
- 23:14Speaker 1: but to go three and out and then give them
- 23:16Speaker 1: all back to the Titans, and it was just too much,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and it was they paid for it. On the other side,
- 23:22Speaker 1: Chris Carson couldn't get going, you know, thirty one yards
- 23:24Speaker 1: isn't gonna cut it for a guy as good as
- 23:26Speaker 1: him in a peakcre offense. What they want to do
- 23:29Speaker 1: with Jane Walden. Everything is that running the football is
- 23:31Speaker 1: a huge deal. And thirty one yards for Carson on
- 23:34Speaker 1: our side and then allowing Derrick Henry go for one
- 23:36Speaker 1: hundred and eighty just as big factors and why the
- 23:38Speaker 1: Seahawks couldn't get it done on Sunday. Another reason why
- 23:42Speaker 1: they couldn't get it done ten penalties for a hundred yards.
- 23:45Speaker 1: That sounds like a team that is not disciplined. There
- 23:48Speaker 1: was the taunting penalty, which I thought is I still
- 23:51Speaker 1: think is bogus. There was a roughing the passer neutral zone,
- 23:56Speaker 1: in fractions false starts. These are just mistakes that I
- 23:59Speaker 1: just can't happen, especially during certain times of the game
- 24:02Speaker 1: where it's crucial where you know that rough and the
- 24:04Speaker 1: pastor was big. You get off the field, you're good
- 24:07Speaker 1: to go. So they have to clean up their play
- 24:09Speaker 1: and Pete Carroll spoke about that after the game. He goes, man,
- 24:13Speaker 1: we just can't make those mistakes. You know, guys are excited.
- 24:15Speaker 1: He wants his guys to be excited. He wants his
- 24:17Speaker 1: guys to be aggressive, aggressive, but you have to do
- 24:19Speaker 1: it within the rules of the game. Late in overtime,
- 24:24Speaker 1: you're backed up to the one yard line. Here's the thing, though, right,
- 24:27Speaker 1: They still had a chance to win the game. Yes,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I mean they still had a chance. Yes, the Titans
- 24:32Speaker 1: came back. They have there Henry guys, let's not forget.
- 24:34Speaker 1: He's pretty good. They got Julio Jones, he's pretty good.
- 24:37Speaker 1: They still had a chance to win the game. They
- 24:39Speaker 1: were backed up late on the one yard line. I
- 24:41Speaker 1: think the Halls got lucky with that non safety car.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I looked at that play again. That was some home
- 24:45Speaker 1: cooking right there. But we'll take it. We at home,
- 24:47Speaker 1: We'll take it. They threw the ball three times late
- 24:50Speaker 1: in overtime, and I think everybody it's a learning process.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think players are gonna learn how to handle themselves
- 24:55Speaker 1: in these situations. I think coaches are gonna learn how
- 24:58Speaker 1: to communicate with their players. And I'm a game plants
- 25:00Speaker 1: in these situations, I'm not. I'm always looking for positives
- 25:03Speaker 1: in these l's. But we just can't deny the fact
- 25:06Speaker 1: that penalties and some decision making kind of hurt these guys. Yeah, man,
- 25:11Speaker 1: And it's like you meant you hit the nail on
- 25:12Speaker 1: the head that despite all of that furious come back
- 25:15Speaker 1: by Titans, all the rush yards by Derrick Henry, the
- 25:18Speaker 1: Seahawks defense gets a big stop in overtime. A penaltygue
- 25:22Speaker 1: can kind of hurt the field position, but they ended
- 25:24Speaker 1: up getting off the field. And typically anytime you have
- 25:27Speaker 1: Russell Wilson is your quarterback and you're getting the ball
- 25:29Speaker 1: an opportunity to win the game, you just expect to win.
- 25:32Speaker 1: That is just He's done it so many times, time
- 25:35Speaker 1: in and time out. So at that point, at that moment,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I was like, no, they're gonna figure it out. They're
- 25:38Speaker 1: gonna go in a crazy drive. We saw it a
- 25:40Speaker 1: million times last year, We've seen it all throughout his career. Unfortunately,
- 25:43Speaker 1: it couldn't get it done. And like we talked about, man,
- 25:46Speaker 1: it's just one game. Just like we tried not to
- 25:48Speaker 1: get too excited last week because it was just one game.
- 25:50Speaker 1: National Football League, it's week to week. A lot of
- 25:53Speaker 1: people get paid a lot of money to compete in
- 25:55Speaker 1: this league, and it's it's like I said, it's one game. Disappointed,
- 26:00Speaker 1: they're gonna get in the film room this week. Tell
- 26:01Speaker 1: the Truth Monday, They're gonna hammer all that stuff out,
- 26:03Speaker 1: and I expect him to bounce back big time in
- 26:06Speaker 1: against the Vikings. Let's bounce back. We knew they weren't
- 26:10Speaker 1: gonna go undefeated. Y'all knew they weren't gonna go undefeated.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Let's just learn and move on, folks. All right, Seahawks
- 26:17Speaker 1: fall to the Titans thirty three to thirty in the
- 26:19Speaker 1: home opener and over time, tough game, but let's digest it,
- 26:23Speaker 1: let's learn, and let's move on. It's been real. Thank
- 26:27Speaker 1: you for joining myself and Nasa Choby. That is a
- 26:29Speaker 1: Hawk Talk recap. We will talk to you guys soon.
- 26:33Speaker 1: The Hawks are going to Minnesota to take on the
- 26:35Speaker 1: Vikings and hopefully bounce back. We'll talk to you soon.
