- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:06Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. And today, we're
- 0:14Speaker 1: going to talk about life. The good, the bad, the ugly,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and everything in between. And today, I want to talk
- 0:22Speaker 1: about something that I think every single one of us
- 0:25Speaker 1: needs to think about. You know, how much life can
- 0:29Speaker 1: change in just one year? Seriously, think about that for
- 0:34Speaker 1: a minute. One year. 365 days. 12 months. It doesn't
- 0:41Speaker 1: sound like a long time, does it? But let me
- 0:44Speaker 1: tell you something. A whole lot can happen in 365 days.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You can go from being completely miserable to finally finding happiness.
- 0:53Speaker 1: You can go from struggling financially to finally getting your
- 0:57Speaker 1: feet underneath you. And you can go from feeling alone
- 0:59Speaker 1: to finding somebody who makes you feel like you're not
- 1:03Speaker 1: alone anymore. You can also lose people you thought would
- 1:08Speaker 1: always be there. You can meet people who completely change
- 1:12Speaker 1: your life. And you can go from having absolutely no
- 1:16Speaker 1: direction to finally figuring out where you want to go.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And sometimes you can look in the mirror one year
- 1:23Speaker 1: later and barely recognize the person staring back at you.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Not because you've changed physically, but because you've changed mentally, emotionally,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and spiritually. And ladies and gentlemen, that is what I
- 1:38Speaker 1: want to talk about today. Because sometimes we get so
- 1:42Speaker 1: caught up in what is happening right now that we
- 1:44Speaker 1: forget something very important. Our current situation does not have
- 1:49Speaker 1: to be our permanent situation. Let that sink in for
- 1:54Speaker 1: just one moment. Now, we're going to talk about all
- 1:58Speaker 1: that and more right after this. Okay, welcome back. Now,
- 2:18Speaker 1: before we begin, I want you to do something for me.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Think back to where you were one year ago. What
- 2:25Speaker 1: was going on in your life? Were you happy? Were
- 2:29Speaker 1: you struggling? Were you worried about money? Were you dealing
- 2:34Speaker 1: with a relationship that wasn't working? Were you questioning yourself?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Were you wondering whether things were ever going to get better?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Maybe you were going through something that nobody even knew about.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Maybe you were smiling on the outside. You're going to work.
- 2:52Speaker 1: You're taking care of your business. But inside, you were exhausted.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You were overwhelmed. You were wondering how much more you
- 3:02Speaker 1: could take. And here's the crazy thing. You made it
- 3:05Speaker 1: through because you're still here. Maybe things aren't perfect. Maybe
- 3:10Speaker 1: you're still fighting some of the same battles. Maybe you're
- 3:14Speaker 1: still trying to figure out what the hell you're doing
- 3:17Speaker 1: with your life. But you are here. And sometimes we
- 3:21Speaker 1: don't give ourselves enough credit for that. We spend so
- 3:24Speaker 1: much time thinking about what we haven't accomplished that we
- 3:28Speaker 1: forget to recognize how far we have actually come. Maybe
- 3:34Speaker 1: one year ago, you were afraid to take a chance. Today,
- 3:38Speaker 1: you're chasing something you never thought you'd have the courage
- 3:41Speaker 1: to chase. Maybe one year ago you didn't believe in yourself.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Today you are finally starting to realize that you are
- 3:48Speaker 1: worth something. And that is progress. And progress doesn't always
- 3:54Speaker 1: come with fireworks. It doesn't always come with celebrations. And
- 3:59Speaker 1: it surely doesn't come with somebody handing you a trophy.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Sometimes progress is simply getting out of bed when you
- 4:07Speaker 1: really don't want to. Sometimes it's going to work when
- 4:10Speaker 1: your mind is somewhere else, and sometimes it's making it
- 4:13Speaker 1: through another difficult day without giving up. And sometimes progress
- 4:18Speaker 1: is saying, I'm not where I want to be, but
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm not where I used to be either. And here's
- 4:25Speaker 1: another thing about life. You know, people change. Relationships change.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Friendships change. And sometimes the people you thought would be
- 4:36Speaker 1: standing beside you forever are now nowhere to be found.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And sometimes that is a tough pill to swallow. You
- 4:44Speaker 1: can spend years being there for somebody. You answer their calls.
- 4:49Speaker 1: You listen to their problems. You help them when they're struggling.
- 4:54Speaker 1: But then one day, you're the one who needs somebody.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And then there's silence. Suddenly everybody is busy. And that
- 5:08Speaker 1: can hurt. But one year can teach you a lot
- 5:12Speaker 1: about people. It can show you who is genuine. It
- 5:17Speaker 1: can show you who's only around when they need something.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It can show you who actually cares about you and
- 5:24Speaker 1: who just enjoys having access to what you can do
- 5:28Speaker 1: for them. You know, and here's something else that I've learned.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Not everybody who starts the journey with you is supposed
- 5:36Speaker 1: to finish it with you. Some people are only meant
- 5:40Speaker 1: to be part of a chapter, and that is okay.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You don't have to spend the rest of your life
- 5:46Speaker 1: trying to keep people in it. Sometimes the best thing
- 5:51Speaker 1: you can do for yourself is stop chasing people who
- 5:54Speaker 1: aren't making an effort to stay. Let them go. Not
- 5:59Speaker 1: because you're bitter. Not because your peace matters too. And
- 6:05Speaker 1: maybe a year from now, you'll look back and realize
- 6:08Speaker 1: that losing certain people was actually one of the best
- 6:10Speaker 1: things that ever happened to you. Now, let's talk about
- 6:17Speaker 1: another important situation. Let's talk about something that affects just
- 6:24Speaker 1: about everybody at some point in their life. Money. Because,
- 6:28Speaker 1: let's be honest, life is expensive. You wake up in
- 6:32Speaker 1: the morning and somehow you owe somebody money. You go
- 6:36Speaker 1: to work to make money and before the money even
- 6:38Speaker 1: hits your bank account, everybody already has their hand out.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Or maybe your car decides it needs something. Of course
- 6:49Speaker 1: it does. You know, cars break down. It's a part
- 6:52Speaker 1: of life because apparently cars have a personal relationship with
- 6:57Speaker 1: your bank account. But seriously, financial pressure can wear you down.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You can work hard and still feel like you're getting nowhere.
- 7:07Speaker 1: You can put in long hours, sacrifice your free time,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and still wonder how you're going to make everything work.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And when you're dealing with that kind of pressure, it's
- 7:21Speaker 1: easy to lose hope. But here is what I want
- 7:24Speaker 1: you to remember. You know, your financial situation does not
- 7:28Speaker 1: necessarily mean determine where you're going to be a year
- 7:33Speaker 1: from now. Maybe you finally pay off a credit card.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Maybe you find a better paying job. Maybe you start
- 7:40Speaker 1: a side hustle. Maybe you finally learn how to manage
- 7:44Speaker 1: your money differently. Maybe you stop spending money trying to
- 7:47Speaker 1: impress people who don't even care about your financial well-being.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Whatever it is, small changes can make big differences. You
- 7:59Speaker 1: don't have to become rich overnight. You just have to
- 8:01Speaker 1: start moving in the right direction and don't compare your
- 8:05Speaker 1: financial situation to somebody else. You know, you have no
- 8:12Speaker 1: idea what their bank account looks like. You don't know
- 8:17Speaker 1: what is happening behind closed doors and you don't know
- 8:20Speaker 1: what that individual is going through. Now, I want to
- 8:25Speaker 1: talk about something that is just a little bit more
- 8:27Speaker 1: serious because Ladies and gentlemen, this is important. Sometimes the
- 8:34Speaker 1: biggest changes in our lives aren't things that other people
- 8:37Speaker 1: can see. They're happening inside our heads. You know, you
- 8:43Speaker 1: can spend an entire year fighting battles that nobody even
- 8:47Speaker 1: knows about. I've talked about this on other podcasts, and
- 8:53Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about it again because it is
- 8:55Speaker 1: so true. Depression, anxiety, Loneliness and fear. Those are some
- 9:04Speaker 1: serious subjects. And those are things that maybe people are
- 9:10Speaker 1: battling but nobody knows about. Maybe the person suffering with
- 9:16Speaker 1: those is embarrassed to tell anybody. Maybe you're worrying about
- 9:22Speaker 1: the future. Maybe you're wondering whether you're good enough. Maybe
- 9:27Speaker 1: you're wondering whether you'll ever find love. Maybe you're wondering
- 9:30Speaker 1: whether you're ever going to feel happy. Whether you're ever
- 9:35Speaker 1: going to feel genuinely happy ever again. And the difficult
- 9:39Speaker 1: part is that life doesn't stop just because you're struggling.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Responsibilities don't disappear just because you're having a difficult time emotionally.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And sometimes you get tired of pretending that you're okay.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You get tired of saying, I'm good, when you're really not.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You get tired of being the person everybody turns to
- 10:03Speaker 1: when they need advice, while wondering who can you turn
- 10:07Speaker 1: to when you need somebody. But listen to me. You
- 10:13Speaker 1: deserve support as well. You deserve happiness. You deserve somebody
- 10:18Speaker 1: who checks on you. You deserve to have a day
- 10:20Speaker 1: when you don't have to be strong for everybody else.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And if you are struggling today, please don't assume you'll
- 10:30Speaker 1: feel this way forever because things can change. Life can change.
- 10:35Speaker 1: So much can change in 365 days. Your perspective can change.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Your circumstances can change. You can get help. You can
- 10:46Speaker 1: find support and discover ways to feel better. Healing doesn't
- 10:51Speaker 1: always happen overnight. Sometimes it's one day at a time.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Sometimes it's one conversation at a time. And sometimes it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: simply admitting that you need a little help. And ladies
- 11:06Speaker 1: and gentlemen, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Don't
- 11:11Speaker 1: let one difficult chapter in your life convince you that
- 11:15Speaker 1: your entire story is going to be difficult. You know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: maybe you have dreams. Maybe you have something that you
- 11:26Speaker 1: want to accomplish. Maybe you have something that you want
- 11:28Speaker 1: to start. Dreams can become reality in one year. I'm
- 11:35Speaker 1: living proof of that. Because, you know, I think a
- 11:39Speaker 1: lot of people give up on their dreams way too early.
- 11:43Speaker 1: They convince themselves they're too old. They're too busy. They
- 11:47Speaker 1: don't have enough money. They don't have enough experience. Nobody
- 11:51Speaker 1: supports them. Nobody believes in them. And eventually they stop trying.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But what if you didn't? What if you gave yourself
- 12:00Speaker 1: one full year? What if instead of spending the next
- 12:04Speaker 1: 365 days talking about what you wish you could do,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you actually start doing it? Think about that. One year
- 12:13Speaker 1: of commitment. One year of showing up. One year of learning.
- 12:19Speaker 1: One year of making mistakes. One year of improving. One
- 12:24Speaker 1: year of refusing to let other people's opinions determine your future.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Imagine where you could be. And I'm going to bring
- 12:35Speaker 1: this back to something personal. You know, when you have
- 12:41Speaker 1: a dream, whether it's starting a business, creating a podcast,
- 12:46Speaker 1: writing a book, playing music, or doing something completely different,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you have to believe in what you're doing. People might laugh.
- 12:57Speaker 1: People might not understand. People might not support you. And
- 13:01Speaker 1: sometimes the people you thought would be cheering the loudest
- 13:04Speaker 1: are the ones who don't say a word. but you
- 13:09Speaker 1: can't build your future around other people's approval. You have
- 13:15Speaker 1: to decide whether your dream is worth pursuing. For me,
- 13:20Speaker 1: having a platform like Real Talk with Mike D is
- 13:23Speaker 1: about having a voice. It's about me being able to
- 13:27Speaker 1: talk about real life. It's about me sharing experiences, having conversations,
- 13:34Speaker 1: making people laugh, and sometimes getting emotional. And maybe the
- 13:39Speaker 1: biggest accomplishment isn't how many people listen. Maybe it's just
- 13:44Speaker 1: having the courage to put myself out there in the
- 13:49Speaker 1: first place. Ladies and gentlemen, so here is my challenge
- 13:54Speaker 1: to all of you. Don't wait another year wishing you
- 13:58Speaker 1: had started. Start now because one year from today, you
- 14:04Speaker 1: could be thanking yourself for the decision you made today. Now,
- 14:13Speaker 1: let's move on to love because I think love can
- 14:16Speaker 1: find you when you least expect it because that's another
- 14:20Speaker 1: area where things can change dramatically in just one year.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You could be single today. You could be lonely today.
- 14:27Speaker 1: You could be wondering whether you're ever going to find
- 14:29Speaker 1: somebody who genuinely understands you. And then somewhere along the way,
- 14:35Speaker 1: somebody walks into your life Somebody makes you smile. Somebody
- 14:39Speaker 1: who wants to hear about your day. Somebody who checks
- 14:44Speaker 1: on you. Somebody who doesn't make you question whether you're
- 14:46Speaker 1: important to them. And suddenly, things feel different. Now, I'm
- 14:54Speaker 1: not saying everybody needs a relationship to be happy. Absolutely not.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You have to learn to be comfortable with yourself. But
- 15:04Speaker 1: there's something special about having somebody in your life. Somebody
- 15:08Speaker 1: in your corner. Somebody who accepts you. Somebody who laughs
- 15:13Speaker 1: at your stupid jokes. And trust me, I have plenty
- 15:16Speaker 1: of those. But most importantly, somebody who understands that you
- 15:22Speaker 1: aren't perfect. Somebody who doesn't expect you to have everything
- 15:26Speaker 1: figured out. Because love isn't about finding somebody who has
- 15:30Speaker 1: a perfect life. It's about finding somebody who wants to
- 15:34Speaker 1: build something meaningful with you. And sometimes the most beautiful
- 15:39Speaker 1: things about life is that you have absolutely no idea
- 15:43Speaker 1: who you're going to meet within the next year. So
- 15:48Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, don't give up on love and don't
- 15:51Speaker 1: settle for something that makes you feel alone either. Ladies
- 15:59Speaker 1: and gentlemen, that is going to do it for today's episode.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I greatly appreciate you all being here. I appreciate you listening. And,
- 16:07Speaker 1: you know, don't give up on yourself. Don't give up
- 16:13Speaker 1: on your dreams. Don't give up on your ambitions because,
- 16:20Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, a lot can change in just one year.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Your whole world can change in one year. Your entire
- 16:28Speaker 1: life could change in one year. One year seems like
- 16:35Speaker 1: a long time, but in reality, it's a very, very
- 16:40Speaker 1: short amount of time. But again, I hope you all
- 16:45Speaker 1: have a wonderful day. Thank you for listening, and I
- 16:49Speaker 1: will see you all on the very next episode. So,
