- 5:54nineteen eighty eight. I was raised with my sisters in

- 6:01earned a knockout in my first fight. I've also set
- 6:04the record for the fastest championship victory. Do you want
- 6:07to pay more Taxes? By Bob Deaton? The never ending
- 6:11request for higher taxes from our local, state, and national
- 6:14governments and school systems on the shrinking number of productive
- 6:18citizens will soon leave Americans with virtually the same income
- 6:21whether they work or become a government recipient. This will
- 6:24indeed be economic communism. In his first inaugural address on
- 6:29March fourth, eighteen oh one, Thomas Jefferson said, A wise
- 6:32and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another,
- 6:36shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits
- 6:38of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the
- 6:41mouth of labour the bread it has earned. This is
- 6:44the sum of good government. This writer might further add
- 6:47other tax supported institutions as well. For many years after
- 6:52our government was founded, there there were no direct taxes
- 6:55paid to the federal government by individuals, such as the
- 6:58personal income tax. Instead, the federal government raised taxes on
- 7:01products manufactured in the United States and by tariffs on
- 7:05products coming into the United States. The federal government was
- 7:08small and little revenue was needed. Our federal government has
- 7:12grown with each passing generation and now employs millions of people,
- 7:16yet they don't produce anything of substance. The government is
- 7:19supported by the free enterprise system and their employees through
- 7:22the taxes they pay. The tax burden on the average
- 7:25American worker consumes nearly forty percent of his income. From
- 7:30seventeen ninety eight until nineteen thirteen, most of the taxes
- 7:34collected were collected by the states. Our founding fathers were
- 7:37fearful of a strong central government. Most felt the federal
- 7:40government was so far removed from their lives they were
- 7:43unwilling to pay their taxes to the federal government. The
- 7:46United States Constitution at that time required all direct taxes
- 7:50to be divided among the states according to population. We
- 7:53should all be willing to pay a reasonable tax for
- 7:55our government to function effectively. However, in America today we
- 7:59find and the ratio of recipients and non taxpayers versus
- 8:03contributions is growing at an alarming rate. Left unchecked, the
- 8:07political potential of the recipients and non taxpayers will soon
- 8:10exceed that of the contributors, resulting in higher and higher
- 8:13taxes paid by fewer and fewer people. In America today
- 8:17we find the bottom fifty percent of the taxpayers only
- 8:21paying only five percent of the taxes. During the latter
- 8:24days of the Great Roman Empire, which had lasted for
- 8:27over a thousand years, the tax burden became so great
- 8:30that Romans deserted their homes, property, and left their jobs
- 8:33because they no longer could pay their taxes and there
- 8:36was little incentive to work. This was one of the
- 8:39major contributing factors to the demise of this great empire.
- 8:43Liberal politicians today loved to raise your taxes and usually
- 8:46oppose all efforts to reduce taxes. They particularly love the
- 8:50progressive personal income tax. This taxes reduces the difference in
- 8:54income of individuals by taxing the higher incomes at a
- 8:57greater rate. This tends to stifle the us incentive of
- 9:01our most productive citizens. This taxing policy runs counter to
- 9:05the wisdom of the old dairy farmer, who realizes that
- 9:08in order to get great milk production, you need to
- 9:10feed the productive cows more instead of less. Leading liberals
- 9:14seem to be more interested in discussing how to redistribute
- 9:16your taxes to recipients than they are in how to
- 9:19produce This perhaps is why they support higher taxes, big government,
- 9:23and great greater control over the economic lives of the
- 9:26American people. History has repeatedly demonstrated that political freedom cannot
- 9:30long exist without economic freedom. Therefore, high taxes pose the
- 9:34greatest danger to personal freedom. This is America, and no
- 9:37citizens should be harassed over their views on taxes from
- 9:40the councillor's desk by Randy Cloth, Work, rest, and God's
- 9:45design for a balanced life. Our Sunday school class has
- 9:49been looking at what the Bible says about balancing work
- 9:51and rest. Balance in life is important in many areas.
- 9:57The Bible offers some very sound practical insights on this
- 10:00important topic. Proverbs fourteen twenty three says in labour there
- 10:04is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty. It
- 10:08is a general principle that hard work will lead to
- 10:10advancement in some degree of success. Of course, one can
- 10:13work too hard, sometimes referred to as a workaholic. Not
- 10:17working or putting in little effort at work will lead
- 10:19to problems. In Genesis, God set the example of work
- 10:23and rest. He worked for six days creating this massive
- 10:26and amazing universe. He rested on the seventh day, setting
- 10:30an example for us the importance of rest. In Matthew
- 10:33chapter six, after several days engaged in exhausting ministry, Jesus
- 10:37instructed his disciples to spend time in a quiet place
- 10:40and rest for a while. This may include attending church,
- 10:43taking a Sunday afternoon nap, engaging in an enjoyable hobby,
- 10:47and sharing a meal with family. And friends. Getting back
- 10:51to the importance of balance, we would do well to
- 10:53work hard while also exploring ways to rest and engage
- 10:56in relaxing activities. One may work so hard that health
- 11:00and family are neglected. A verse that my wife and
- 11:03I find humorous and yet instructive. In Proverbs says a
- 11:07little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the
- 11:09hands to rest. The proverb goes on to say that
- 11:12this leads to poverty. When we labor faithfully and rest wisely,
- 11:16we honor God's design, protect what matters most, and find
- 11:19the strength to keep serving with hope and perseverance. Remember,
- 11:23no matter what challenges you may be facing, keep hoping, praying,
- 11:27believing and trusting, and never giving up. If you or

- 12:05Senior Citizen News by Rich Bunten. Let's start from the beginning.
- 12:10On April seventeenth, we sent eight teams to compete in
- 12:14the rook Tournament held at Perry Senior Citizens. We are
- 12:17fortunate enough to play second and third. Eddie Fugett and
- 12:20Leonora Bush placed second, and Druy Jones and J. P.
- 12:24Bowling placed third. There were some hard fought games as
- 12:27there were about twenty five teams. Seven other counties were represented.
- 12:32All were going for first place and the gold hats
- 12:35off to all the competed as we enjoyed the fellowship.
- 12:39Also concrats to Jane, director of the Perry County Center,
- 12:42for hosting this event. She's a fine lady and was
- 12:45gracious to all who were there. Next up was put putt,
- 12:48horseshoes and pool. As usual, we sent a large number
- 12:52of our members to compete in these games. Many of
- 12:55our members won first, second, or third in put putt.
- 12:59In pool we pulled out. We had some win first,
- 13:02second and third place in horseshoes. We had hoped to
- 13:05do better, and even as our heads hung low, our
- 13:08hearts aglow knowing we did our best. This event also
- 13:11took place at the Perry County Citizen Center with Jane
- 13:15hosting and k R A d D. Stacy Noble overseeing
- 13:19all events. When it was all over, we were fed
- 13:21a meal at the center and awards were presented. We
- 13:24were tired, but happy that we could compete with the
- 13:27other counties. Believe me, it was a cutthroat event as
- 13:30neither county was giving an inch, every county fighting to
- 13:34come in first place. It's a lot of fun during
- 13:36these games as you gain new friends and refresh old relationships.
- 13:41We invite those who may be sixty or older to
- 13:43visit breathatt County Senior Citizens Center and meet some of
- 13:46the best people you'll ever have. The pleasure of meeting.
- 13:49God's grace is surely with us. Have a blessed week,
- 13:51and may God's hand guide you as you journey home.
- 13:54Building a healthier Breathitt County one step at a time,
- 13:59preventing exercise burnout Part two. A good guide for your
- 14:03break between sets is your heart rate. Were a heart
- 14:06rate monitor and begin your next set as soon as
- 14:08your heart rate drops below sixty five percent of your max.
- 14:12On the other hand, if you find yourself sore for
- 14:14several days and the soreness is more severe than you're
- 14:18used to, then this is a good indicator that you
- 14:20can be overtraining. If you find yourself sleepless at night,
- 14:23constantly battling injury, light headed, weak, while walking around with
- 14:28low energy, then overtraining is a very good possibility. Finally,
- 14:33an obvious sign of overtraining is illness. If you get sick,
- 14:36often limit your exercise as much as possible until you recover.
- 14:40A good way to correct overtraining is to take a
- 14:42few days off from exercising and then redesign your workout
- 14:45plan by either reducing intensity or by decreasing duration. Mental
- 14:50exhaustion can be very different from physical exhaustion. Mental exhaustion
- 14:54pertains to exercise, usually caused by a repetitive, consistent workout
- 14:58routine or a strict anytime, when someone finds themselves doing
- 15:03the same workouts every week, with the same exercises every day,
- 15:06and eating the same foods, it will get old, no
- 15:09matter how strong the motivation is. There are several ways
- 15:12to prevent or limit mental exhaustion, and believe it or not,
- 15:15they can be pretty simple. One way to limit mental
- 15:18exhaustion is to find new and consistent motivations. Another way
- 15:22to prevent this kind of exhaustion is to periodically switch
- 15:25up your workout routine. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean changing
- 15:29every exercise in your workout, but may be something as
- 15:32simple as adding one new exercise each workout in order
- 15:36to help maintain focus and prevent psychological burnout. If you
- 15:40find that this works well, you can even change your
- 15:42muscle groupings for your workouts to keep your mind and
- 15:45body focused. Instead of devoting one workout to legs, break
- 15:49it up into quads and glutes and hamstrings and calves
- 15:52over two separate days. This can be a very effective
- 15:55method of keeping your mind focused and your muscle guessing
- 15:58what you're going to put them through newt After trying
- 16:02these options, if you find yourself still lacking the motivation
- 16:05and experiencing increased mental exhaustion, try finding a workout partner.
- 16:09This can be somewhat risky, and I'd be very particular
- 16:12about whom you choose to exercise with. Finally, one of
- 16:16the hardest aspects of training is getting your body and
- 16:19mind on the same page. Especially when putting yourself through
- 16:22intense training, it's not uncommon to feel completely different than
- 16:26you look, or vice versa. The best way to correct
- 16:29this imbalance is to try the above methods and find
- 16:31which works best for you. If you can look good
- 16:34and feel good, I believe that little else will contribute
- 16:37to your happiness in the same way. You'll be surprised
- 16:40how the little things can contribute on a much larger
- 16:42scale in your workouts and consequently your life. Take the
- 16:46time to take care of yourself and your body will
- 16:49reward you by not breaking down, and your mind will
- 16:51reward you by staying alert and vibrant. Remember, you're only
- 16:55going to get as much out of your workouts as
- 16:57you put in. G f w C Jackson Women's Club

- 17:23attend Hazard Community and Technical College Lee's campus in the fall.
- 17:28So be it by Pastor Naomi. Emergency numbers. We have
- 17:33emergency numbers posted in a conspicuous place so we can
- 17:36grab them in a hurry when needed. Some numbers kept
- 17:39or for police, ambulance, doctor, fire department, et cetera. You
- 17:43never know when you might need them, but we have
- 17:45them posted so everyone in the household knows where they are.
- 17:49We teach the smaller children to understand what an emergency
- 17:52might look like and which numbers to call. There are
- 17:55several emergency numbers in the Bible. Yes, that's right. You
- 17:59might want to this article out of your newspaper so
- 18:01you can post these on the fridge or tuck it
- 18:03into your Bible. Teach your children how important the Word
- 18:06of God is to help them in their time of need.
- 18:09When in sorrow, you can read John fourteen. When men
- 18:12fail you read Psalm twenty seven. When you have sinned,
- 18:15read Psalm fifty one. When you have worried, you can
- 18:19read Matthew six nineteen through thirty four. When you're in danger,

- 18:27Psalm one thirty nine. When your faith needs stirring, read
- 18:31Hebrews eleven. When you're lonely and fearful, read Psalm twenty three.
- 18:36When you grow bitter and critical, read First Corinthians thirteen.
- 18:41When you feel down and out, read Romans eight thirty
- 18:43one through thirty nine. When you want peace and rest,
- 18:47you can read Matthew eleven twenty five through thirty. When
- 18:50the world seems bigger than God, you can read Psalm ninety.
- 18:54When you need Christian assurance, read Romans eight one through thirty.
- 18:58When you leave home for labor or travel, you can
- 19:00read Psalm one twenty one. When your prayers grow narrow
- 19:04or selfish, you should read Psalm sixty seven. When you
- 19:07need courage for a task, then read Joshua one. If
- 19:11you think of investments and returns, then read Mark ten.
- 19:15If you want to learn how to get along with
- 19:16fellow men, then read Romans twelve. For great investments and opportunities,
- 19:21you can read Mark ten. Want to know the secret
- 19:24to happiness as told by Paul, then read Colossians three
- 19:27twelve through seventeen. If you want to be fruitful, then
- 19:31read John fifteen If your pocketbook is empty, read Psalm
- 19:34thirty seven. If you are losing confidence in people, read
- 19:38First Corinthians thirteen. When it seems people are unkind, then
- 19:43read John fifteen. If you're discouraged about your work, then
- 19:47then it will help to read Psalm one twenty six.
- 19:50There are countless other numbers and scriptures in the Bible
- 19:53that help you in your time of need. The Bible
- 19:56says that the Holy Spirit will confront comfort us John
- 19:58fourteen sixteen, he will teach us John fourteen twenty six,
- 20:04and he will remain in us as a seal of
- 20:05promise upon our hearts until the day of Jesus's return
- 20:09Ephesians one thirteen and four thirty. The Holy Spirit also
- 20:13takes on the role of guide and counselor leading us
- 20:16in the way we should go and revealing God's truth
- 20:19Luke twelve twelve and one Corinthians two six through ten.
- 20:24The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom about how
- 20:27we should live Tewod Timothy three sixteen. And we as
- 20:31believers are to search the scriptures, meditate on them, and
- 20:34commit them to memory Joshua one eight. The Word is
- 20:38the sword of the Spirit, Ephesian six seventeen, and the
- 20:41Spirit will use it to speak to us John sixteen
- 20:45twelve through fourteen to reveal God's will for our lives.
- 20:48He'll also bring specific scriptures to mind at times when
- 20:52we need them most Amen, So be it. Lily Yoder
