Latest / OneLegUpAlex Media / Molly Koweek Breaks News on How Luxxle is Having One Leg Up on Search Engines 1-24-25
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well, I'm kind of wearing Notre Dame in
- 0:02Speaker 1: honor of Notre Dame even though they had a tough
- 0:04Speaker 1: loss on Monday night in the Natty, But you know what,
- 0:07Speaker 1: they were a disruptor this entire postseason, and now I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: inviting another disruptor onto my podcast. The director of communications
- 0:15Speaker 1: for Luxel. That's right. It's a search engine which you
- 0:18Speaker 1: may not heard about until right now, Molly Kohek, Are
- 0:21Speaker 1: we breaking news right now about Luxo because I'd feel
- 0:24Speaker 1: like not many are hearing about this brand at the moment,
- 0:27Speaker 1: but here we are.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And you know what, that's our biggest issue, right that
- 0:30Speaker 2: people don't know about Luxel. Once people find out about Luxel, though,
- 0:33Speaker 2: they don't switch back because we just are offering such
- 0:36Speaker 2: a superior search experience. So yeah, in a lot of ways,
- 0:39Speaker 2: we are breaking news to people.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So tell us about this because here's a here's the
- 0:43Speaker 1: inauguration this week. I feel like the Trumpet administration, especially
- 0:47Speaker 1: with Elon's going to come in a lot of tech
- 0:49Speaker 1: stuff's going to change. So now it's the time for
- 0:52Speaker 1: Luxe will stand out because we've seen a lot of
- 0:54Speaker 1: the bias Google. Google isn't just Google, they're censoring your
- 0:58Speaker 1: searches and then being is an alternative. But you guys say,
- 1:02Speaker 1: well we're better than bing too. Tell us why?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:05Speaker 2: So, really, what Luxel is it's the search engine that
- 1:07Speaker 2: we have all been waiting for, the search engine that
- 1:09Speaker 2: people want, that they're asking for, but they don't know exist.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So we take an entirely different approach to search, one
- 1:16Speaker 2: that increases our users access to information and eliminates that
- 1:20Speaker 2: search engine bias by putting our users in control of
- 1:23Speaker 2: the search. Now I can go on and on forever
- 1:25Speaker 2: about Luxel. Obviously I'm a big fan, but it's better
- 1:28Speaker 2: if I show you. So what I'm going to do
- 1:30Speaker 2: is share my screen.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And for my audio listeners on the podcast, we will
- 1:37Speaker 1: have this lead YouTube link in the description below as well,
- 1:40Speaker 1: because you know we do simulcats as Molly, So it's
- 1:42Speaker 1: a video audio extravaganza if you will.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Great love that.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So tell us about you as you're pulling this up.
- 1:49Speaker 1: How did you get involved with Luxel and why did
- 1:51Speaker 1: you join the company? Sure?
- 1:52Speaker 2: So, I used to be a journalist. I was a
- 1:54Speaker 2: journalist for about ten years.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Or sood winning by the way, would you say sorry?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Award winning by the way award winning journalists.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yes, And so access to information and unbiased information is
- 2:05Speaker 2: incredibly important to me and it always has been in
- 2:08Speaker 2: my time as a journalist. And just because I left
- 2:10Speaker 2: news for better hours and working conditions, you know, it
- 2:14Speaker 2: doesn't mean that that part of me left. And so
- 2:17Speaker 2: when I found a company that had those same values
- 2:20Speaker 2: that aligned with what I really valued before, it was
- 2:25Speaker 2: a no brainer for me. So a company that is
- 2:27Speaker 2: working to provide increased access to information that does not
- 2:32Speaker 2: that cuts down on search engine censorship and all of
- 2:35Speaker 2: those things is something that is incredibly important to me,
- 2:38Speaker 2: both the journalist in my heart, but then also just
- 2:40Speaker 2: as somebody who uses search engines every single day.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, us for the audio, but the audio portion for
- 2:46Speaker 1: the podcast. When people go visit, what can they look
- 2:49Speaker 1: forward to? Like? What can they expect?
- 2:51Speaker 2: You can just expect a much much better search experience.
- 2:54Speaker 2: So generally, when people are on search engines, let's call
- 2:57Speaker 2: out the big one, let's call it Google. Right, It's
- 2:59Speaker 2: really a one side as fits all approach to search.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And so you will see the results that Google wants
- 3:04Speaker 2: you to see, not necessarily the results that you're looking
- 3:07Speaker 2: for or that you didn't know you even should be
- 3:09Speaker 2: looking for. So let's say you were searching for something
- 3:13Speaker 2: like the inauguration, and I did this earlier today because
- 3:16Speaker 2: I wanted to compare our results to Google's results, and
- 3:19Speaker 2: you would see all you saw news. I searched for
- 3:22Speaker 2: inauguration on Google, and I saw all of the same
- 3:25Speaker 2: results from sources that you would expect, the really really
- 3:29Speaker 2: big sources.
- 3:31Speaker 3: You didn't get the small sources.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Though, So what people are getting is a really limited
- 3:35Speaker 2: perspective on a huge story that people need to know about.
- 3:40Speaker 1: In You're hitting home here, because here's what I'm hearing
- 3:42Speaker 1: is that you like the independent journalists to have a voice,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and luxwel gives them that voice because it includes them,
- 3:48Speaker 1: it doesn't weed them out. And you know, it's funny
- 3:52Speaker 1: for big tech they always talk about disinformation, and here
- 3:55Speaker 1: they are bringing us disinformation by exclusion.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Am I right exactly?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Because what you're going to get in LUXIL, Let's say
- 4:02Speaker 2: you search something like the inauguration or in any other
- 4:05Speaker 2: big news story that's out there, what you'll see is
- 4:08Speaker 2: our lenses feature is going to pop up. And what
- 4:10Speaker 2: it is is it's a sorting and a filtering.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Tool and by the way, you can share that on
- 4:13Speaker 1: my video now because I allowed that, so feel great.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So you know what instead of me just rambling on,
- 4:18Speaker 2: let me show you so should be sharing my screen
- 4:22Speaker 2: right now.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Okay, we got it. And then again for the listeners
- 4:26Speaker 1: on the podcast, you can easily find this on my
- 4:28Speaker 1: YouTube channel as well. So let's hear it. Let's look
- 4:30Speaker 1: at this.
- 4:31Speaker 2: We pull up Luxel's homepage and let's search for inauguration.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So we do run this search for inauguration right, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: this is what you're going to see right at the top.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You're going to see something you've never seen before unless
- 4:47Speaker 2: you are already a Luxel user, And that's our lenses feature. So,
- 4:50Speaker 2: as I was just mentioning, Lenses is a sorting and
- 4:53Speaker 2: a filtering tool that puts the user in control of
- 4:55Speaker 2: their results. So instead of just having one choice and
- 4:59Speaker 2: just getting the results that your search engine presents to you,
- 5:03Speaker 2: on Luxel, you get choice and you get to see.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You get choice over which results pop up and the
- 5:08Speaker 2: order in which you can see them.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So now let me tell you, MRCTV, see that is
- 5:13Speaker 1: a conservative site. You wouldn't see that on a Google search.
- 5:16Speaker 1: This is certainly kind of I would to say revolutionary
- 5:19Speaker 1: because we're in the twenty first century and here we
- 5:21Speaker 1: are because Google's not giving you that side.
- 5:24Speaker 2: No, And just look at these are in our top stories.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So there will always be three on the left, three
- 5:28Speaker 2: on the right. On the left we have Huffington Post, USA, Today, CNBC,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and then on the right we have MRCTV, Truth Press
- 5:35Speaker 2: and Headline USA.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Those are constantly changing.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But what doesn't change is the fact that we stay
- 5:40Speaker 2: balanced and we don't prioritize large sources over small sources,
- 5:46Speaker 2: or for that matter, small sources over large sources. We
- 5:48Speaker 2: don't give preference to political leaning either. We don't prioritize
- 5:52Speaker 2: the left or the right. What I think people can
- 5:54Speaker 2: really appreciate about Luxel is that we are a fully
- 5:57Speaker 2: neutral search engine that respects people's right to think for themselves.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That's something they don't get anywhere else. So back to
- 6:03Speaker 2: our lenses feature. If you only want to see sources
- 6:07Speaker 2: that lean left, you can do that with one clean
- 6:10Speaker 2: left and then you're getting only sources. You're getting results
- 6:13Speaker 2: from only sources that lean left. Raw Story, La Times,
- 6:16Speaker 2: The Roots, Late Magazine, Newsweek. As you can see, there's
- 6:19Speaker 2: a variety of size in there. As well, or you
- 6:22Speaker 2: can say, hey, maybe you only want to see sources
- 6:25Speaker 2: from outlets that lean right Boom one Click, the Daily Signal,
- 6:29Speaker 2: Brightbart Daily Wire, and Enteral News daily Mail. These are
- 6:33Speaker 2: sources you're not going to find on Google. If we
- 6:35Speaker 2: come back to all for a second. You can also
- 6:37Speaker 2: decide not just what you're seeing, but how it shows up.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So you can either use Luxel's algorithm, which will alternate
- 6:44Speaker 2: between right and left, or you can say, hey, I
- 6:48Speaker 2: want to see the sources in alphabetical order, so then
- 6:51Speaker 2: you can do that as well, starting with ABC News
- 6:55Speaker 2: and then all the way down on the zas to
- 6:58Speaker 2: zero Hedge, so just a lot more control there. You
- 7:01Speaker 2: also can decide that you want to sort it by freshness,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and that's just the most current, the most recent content
- 7:08Speaker 2: that we've pulled.
- 7:09Speaker 1: In another thing I was going to ask, I asked
- 7:11Speaker 1: you this off there because I'm very curious as we're
- 7:13Speaker 1: doing this on air, you wouldn't get the right perspective
- 7:17Speaker 1: if it wasn't if this wasn't started by a conservative family.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Is it a conservative family that starved this or who
- 7:22Speaker 1: started this?
- 7:23Speaker 2: I think the thing that you can really appreciate about
- 7:25Speaker 2: Luxels is that we were started by a group of
- 7:28Speaker 2: tech entrepreneurs who wanted to bring a fresh perspective to search.
- 7:32Speaker 2: One thing I want to be very clear about. We
- 7:33Speaker 2: are not a conservative search engine. We are not a
- 7:36Speaker 2: liberal search engine. We are a neutral search engine that
- 7:39Speaker 2: lets people make their own decisions. So you can find
- 7:42Speaker 2: results from all sorts of perspectives and then you get
- 7:45Speaker 2: to decide. And isn't that what we want from our
- 7:47Speaker 2: search engines?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Anyway?
- 7:48Speaker 2: Search engines are supposed to provide us with the information
- 7:50Speaker 2: and then we make the decisions about whatever the issue
- 7:53Speaker 2: is not the other way around. Other search engines get
- 7:56Speaker 2: way too involved in that process. Another really interesting feature
- 8:00Speaker 2: about our lenses result is that with one click you
- 8:03Speaker 2: can decide if you want to include mainstream media sources
- 8:06Speaker 2: in your results or not. So one click and then
- 8:09Speaker 2: that eliminates mainstream media sources, and then one click and
- 8:12Speaker 2: you can include them back into your results.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I have to ask you, this looks like that other interface.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You know, it kind of looks like that other interface.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So how did you guys pull that off to make
- 8:23Speaker 1: it look exactly like that but be very different than Google?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Sure, so your experience is just going to be entirely
- 8:31Speaker 2: different from Google. And so of course you know, we
- 8:35Speaker 2: show a list of results. Google does show a list
- 8:38Speaker 2: of results. But I would say that's sort of where
- 8:40Speaker 2: our similarities end, and that our approach is just entirely different.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Our approach is one that really values the users and
- 8:46Speaker 2: respects them and respects their right to make their own decisions.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And I also think that if we're just talking design
- 8:54Speaker 2: and aesthetic here, these are aesthetics that no other search
- 8:57Speaker 2: engine has, because nobody else has anything like lenses another very.
- 9:02Speaker 1: See the freshness thing or the lean right certainly, or
- 9:05Speaker 1: even the lean left. I mean it just it's not
- 9:07Speaker 1: this categorize or how do you guys spend that time
- 9:11Speaker 1: to categorize? And everything goroops searching? Is a journalist searching
- 9:14Speaker 1: this for you guys or what? Sure?
- 9:16Speaker 2: So largely sources will identify if they have a leaning,
- 9:22Speaker 2: a leaning, if they lean left or they lean right.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So the ones who self identify, that makes it nice
- 9:27Speaker 2: and easy. Otherwise, we have a couple of third party
- 9:29Speaker 2: providers that we check in with and that helps us
- 9:32Speaker 2: make those those determinations. One other thing that I'd like
- 9:35Speaker 2: to show you is people get frustrated when they're on
- 9:38Speaker 2: the other search engines, Hey, I can't find something from
- 9:40Speaker 2: my source, and if they do, it's buried.
- 9:43Speaker 3: It might be really hard to find.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Let's just you know, right off the top here we
- 9:46Speaker 2: have both the Daily Signal and Raw Story. It might
- 9:49Speaker 2: be really hard to find content from those sources that
- 9:52Speaker 2: are not the big, massive New York Times kinds of sources. Well,
- 9:56Speaker 2: we make that we take care of that problem very
- 9:59Speaker 2: easily because we've searched inauguration. So with one click this
- 10:02Speaker 2: more on topic link right here, this will pull up
- 10:06Speaker 2: up to one thousand results from that source of all
- 10:11Speaker 2: of the all of the articles that that source has
- 10:14Speaker 2: written on that issue. Another button right next to it
- 10:18Speaker 2: all recent pulls up up to a thousand results from
- 10:21Speaker 2: that source of just the most recent content. So we
- 10:24Speaker 2: make it very very easy to navigate and find the
- 10:27Speaker 2: content that it is that you are looking for based
- 10:31Speaker 2: on whatever results it is that you're trying to find.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Now, I feel like this is a great tool for
- 10:35Speaker 1: journalists also that want the latest and you know, unbiased opinion.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So are you sending this out to your journalistic friends saying, hey,
- 10:44Speaker 1: this is the new source free.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, my journalist friends, they all know about it.
- 10:49Speaker 2: They all work in local news for the most part,
- 10:52Speaker 2: and anybody that I can that I can talk to
- 10:54Speaker 2: about Luxel, I take the opportunity to talk to because
- 10:57Speaker 2: I think that what happens is a lot of times
- 10:59Speaker 2: people don't realize is that their search engine is biased,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and maybe they have some inkling that it is, but
- 11:03Speaker 2: they don't realize why that is so problematic until they
- 11:07Speaker 2: actually do a comparison between Luxel's results and Google's results
- 11:11Speaker 2: or any other search engine out there, and they just
- 11:13Speaker 2: see that, Hey, I could have a much better search
- 11:16Speaker 2: engine experience. But people at this point use Google as
- 11:19Speaker 2: a verb. They see that as the only option, like
- 11:21Speaker 2: it's the default search engine.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's not.
- 11:24Speaker 2: There are better options out there, including Luxel.
- 11:26Speaker 1: All Right. Another thing that Google and other searches are
- 11:29Speaker 1: doing a lot of which is data mineing, right, so
- 11:31Speaker 1: they take our data in our searches. Is Luxel doing
- 11:35Speaker 1: that or are they keeping clear of the data here?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I can tell you that Luxel takes your privacy
- 11:40Speaker 2: very very seriously. So we do not track our users,
- 11:43Speaker 2: we do not share their data, and in fact, we
- 11:45Speaker 2: take it one step further and we encourage our users
- 11:47Speaker 2: to protect their own privacy by using a privacy contra
- 11:50Speaker 2: broct excuse me, by using a privacy concer conscious VPA.
- 11:54Speaker 2: And there we got a little bit of a mouthful there,
- 11:57Speaker 2: but that's really important to us that our user's data
- 12:00Speaker 2: is protected.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Wow, this is this is a new new stuff. And
- 12:06Speaker 1: how do we get the word out more about Luckil
- 12:08Speaker 1: aside from just the podcast? Should I just start saying, hey,
- 12:11Speaker 1: you should look up, you should look for your news
- 12:14Speaker 1: on Luxel to share the web browser I guess or website?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean the more people that
- 12:19Speaker 2: are talking about Luxell, the more people will learn about Luxell,
- 12:22Speaker 2: the more people will use Luxel. And as I think
- 12:25Speaker 2: I mentioned, once people find out about it, they don't
- 12:27Speaker 2: switch back, and our numbers show that, which so it's
- 12:30Speaker 2: just an incredibly powerful tool here. So the more that
- 12:33Speaker 2: journalists talk about Luxel, you know, trusted journalists talking about Luxel,
- 12:37Speaker 2: is an incredibly powerful tool for us, just because if
- 12:41Speaker 2: readers and viewers and listeners are already trusting these journalists
- 12:45Speaker 2: and then you know we're we're on your show talking
- 12:47Speaker 2: about it, that's so so powerful because people already trust you.
- 12:53Speaker 2: They'll say, hey, if Alex is going to talk about
- 12:55Speaker 2: this on his podcast.
- 12:56Speaker 3: It's at least worth the shot.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Can we make it a default browser? You know we
- 13:00Speaker 1: all have that default browser. Is that? Is there a
- 13:02Speaker 1: technology there for that? Yep?
- 13:03Speaker 2: We have browser extensions for that people can download. We
- 13:08Speaker 2: also have an app as well, so you're good to
- 13:11Speaker 2: use luxel wherever you are.
- 13:14Speaker 1: All right, I want to kind of go back to
- 13:15Speaker 1: the homepage without googling, sorry, without luxeling anything right, luxling
- 13:19Speaker 1: that's the new term Molement of saying here, can you
- 13:22Speaker 1: get the news right there? Right? Or do you have
- 13:23Speaker 1: to type in something? Is there a news feature right
- 13:26Speaker 1: on the website the Maine just.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I mean, you just type in whatever it is that
- 13:29Speaker 3: you're looking for.
- 13:30Speaker 2: One thing that's nice about Luxeil is we don't know
- 13:32Speaker 2: what you're looking for because we're not tracking you and
- 13:35Speaker 2: paying attention to your search habits or anything like that. Right,
- 13:38Speaker 2: So I think that that's really refreshing, and that news
- 13:42Speaker 2: that you have maybe searched for in the past isn't
- 13:44Speaker 2: just popping up saying hey, you should see this. We're
- 13:47Speaker 2: not going to tell you what you should see or
- 13:49Speaker 2: let you search for whatever it is that you want.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I feel like you joined this because you were frustrated
- 13:54Speaker 1: as a journalist. Also, oh my god, why is Google?
- 13:56Speaker 1: Like you knew about this a long time ago. So
- 13:59Speaker 1: did you ever seek out alternative aside from Google even
- 14:01Speaker 1: before Luxel or how did that work? Yeah?
- 14:04Speaker 2: So I found Luxel after I left News, and you know,
- 14:07Speaker 2: while I was a journalist, I sort of knew that
- 14:09Speaker 2: there were other search engines out there, but didn't really
- 14:12Speaker 2: bother to give them a try. I don't think that myself,
- 14:16Speaker 2: if I'm being honest. I don't think I understood how
- 14:19Speaker 2: big of an issue search engine bias was and how
- 14:21Speaker 2: important it was to correct those those that bias until
- 14:26Speaker 2: I joined Luxel. So I've been with the company now
- 14:29Speaker 2: for just about two years, and I'm very happy.
- 14:32Speaker 1: You know, other Google has had lawsuits against them and whatnot.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Did the founders of lux Will see that and say, Okay,
- 14:40Speaker 1: if Google is get ensued, we got to provide a
- 14:42Speaker 1: different alternative for people.
- 14:44Speaker 2: The founders of Luxel just realized that there was something
- 14:47Speaker 2: lacking in search, and the search engines that were out
- 14:51Speaker 2: there were not providing users for the experience that they deserve.
- 14:54Speaker 2: So they wanted to create something that our users would
- 14:57Speaker 2: deserve that provides a fresh perspective and searched one that
- 15:01Speaker 2: they can count on.
- 15:03Speaker 1: You know, I'm thinking about this too in the audio space.
- 15:08Speaker 1: What I mean by that is like the series of
- 15:10Speaker 1: the World and the Hey Google's of the world. Do
- 15:12Speaker 1: they that we know of? Do they have a bias too?
- 15:15Speaker 1: When we actually asked Siria to search something, are they
- 15:18Speaker 1: biased too? Sure?
- 15:20Speaker 2: So, you know, we spoke about this on the phone
- 15:22Speaker 2: just a little bit, and you know, my boss gave
- 15:24Speaker 2: it a try and it did default to Google.
- 15:27Speaker 3: And so Siri integration is something that.
- 15:30Speaker 2: We perhaps hadn't considered before, but definitely something we can
- 15:33Speaker 2: look into.
- 15:34Speaker 1: That would be exciting. I know you're excited to come
- 15:37Speaker 1: on here, and I'm so happy that we're chatting. And
- 15:39Speaker 1: as I say, will Luxel even be utilized by this
- 15:45Speaker 1: new administration? I mean, I feel like there are so
- 15:47Speaker 1: many disruptors there that they can utilize this and maybe
- 15:50Speaker 1: lean into the more. Do you see any connection with
- 15:53Speaker 1: the new administration on this? Sure?
- 15:55Speaker 2: Luxell is a search engine for every single person. Luxell
- 15:58Speaker 2: is a search engine for somebody who is working from home,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and Luxel of the search engine for somebody who's working
- 16:03Speaker 2: in DC. So if the new administration wants to tap
- 16:05Speaker 2: into Luxel and start using it so that it can
- 16:08Speaker 2: have an unbiased search experience. We welcome that. For anybody
- 16:12Speaker 2: who's a listening, who is working from home, working from
- 16:14Speaker 2: an office not in DC, thousands of miles away, we
- 16:18Speaker 2: also welcome you, and we think that it can provide
- 16:19Speaker 2: a valuable search experience, no matter your job.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Have you started hearing oh my god, I know about
- 16:24Speaker 1: this until I looked it up on Luxel. Have you
- 16:25Speaker 1: been hearing that?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yes, we're What we see a lot on social media
- 16:30Speaker 2: is people trying to find information for whatever it is
- 16:33Speaker 2: that they're looking for on other search engines. They get frustrated,
- 16:36Speaker 2: and then they come to Luxel and they're like, boom,
- 16:38Speaker 2: first result popped up immediately, no issue.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I like the design of this, and I feel like
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'm just going to start out by saying, hey, let
- 16:45Speaker 1: me type in current events and see what's up there.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Because how often do you guys update? Is it always
- 16:50Speaker 1: updating hourly, minute by minute?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we are constantly constantly updating the site. You bring
- 16:57Speaker 2: up kind of our look and feel. One other thing
- 16:59Speaker 2: that I'd like to show you is our AI feature
- 17:02Speaker 2: because we take the same lenses approach, and that same
- 17:04Speaker 2: approach with choice and eliminating bias to our AI.
- 17:08Speaker 3: So if we type in what is the best way
- 17:13Speaker 3: to save?
- 17:14Speaker 1: And I was going to ask about AI because obviously
- 17:16Speaker 1: they sort of dictate what you search also.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, So there are so many different questions
- 17:23Speaker 2: that you can ask our AI, So like what would
- 17:25Speaker 2: you like to ask?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Maybe like when will I don't want to have a
- 17:37Speaker 1: trip of vanity here, but I wonder if luxel picks
- 17:39Speaker 1: up one leg up with Alex Herrett. Now you got
- 17:41Speaker 1: any curious if that would show up on your Google
- 17:43Speaker 1: on your search feed here on Luxel it did?
- 17:46Speaker 3: It did?
- 17:46Speaker 2: I'll search that in just a second, But I just
- 17:49Speaker 2: want to show you something on our AI. So I
- 17:51Speaker 2: just searched when will it snow? Right here, you can
- 17:54Speaker 2: see this button click to change your AI setting? And
- 17:58Speaker 2: what this this is that this will pull up is
- 18:00Speaker 2: it pulls up lenses for your AI. So we know
- 18:05Speaker 2: that there is bias in AI. No, one is very
- 18:09Speaker 2: few people I guess would deny that, right, But let's
- 18:12Speaker 2: say you would like to identify what kind of lean
- 18:16Speaker 2: you'd like your AI responses to have. So maybe you
- 18:19Speaker 2: want your AI responses to lean conservative, liberal, or libertarian.
- 18:23Speaker 2: You have that option, or maybe you like a religious
- 18:26Speaker 2: preference for your Ai, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, or secular.
- 18:30Speaker 2: You get to make those choices. It's and not every
- 18:33Speaker 2: answer is going to change based on based on your filter.
- 18:38Speaker 2: When will it snow is going to have no difference
- 18:41Speaker 2: if you are leaning conservative or liberal right, but it
- 18:44Speaker 2: does matter for some. And that's just another feature that
- 18:48Speaker 2: where Luxel is breaking ground in search that no one
- 18:51Speaker 2: else is.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You know, before you search one level Aoulex Skart, I
- 18:55Speaker 1: got a question because we're dealing with this raging wildfire
- 18:58Speaker 1: in La. Yeah, goes to Google or being maybe they
- 19:01Speaker 1: partnered with a certain agency to be featured more. But
- 19:04Speaker 1: when you go to loxtole and you type in, hey,
- 19:06Speaker 1: what are the best? Are you showing all the options
- 19:08Speaker 1: you can donate?
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so what would you like me to type in.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Like just say LA Wildfire Rescue. I want to see
- 19:15Speaker 1: not just American Red Cross, but other organizations are popping up,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, because I feel like there's a leaning to
- 19:21Speaker 1: the board that but there are other agencies out there.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Sure, so it looks like we have LA HSA A
- 19:29Speaker 2: couple of YouTube links Secret Los Angeles, a couple of
- 19:33Speaker 2: news sources ABC seven San Francisco. We have one about
- 19:38Speaker 2: saving animals, a couple of news links linked in there
- 19:42Speaker 2: as well, International Fund for Animal.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Welfare cal Fire.
- 19:46Speaker 2: So there's a pretty good selection there, pretty good variety.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And the point I'm trying to make is, look, it's
- 19:52Speaker 1: not just the mainstream ones. They're telling you everything that
- 19:55Speaker 1: you might need to know about this wildfire rescue, which
- 19:58Speaker 1: is which is even better.
- 19:59Speaker 2: For Luxo Exactly the results you're looking for are on Luxel.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Are you hoping one day, maybe even later in the year,
- 20:07Speaker 1: everybody starts saying hey Luxel instead of Hey Google? Is
- 20:10Speaker 1: that a goal here?
- 20:12Speaker 2: It would be great if people start to use Luxel
- 20:16Speaker 2: and make it the default in their mind right, that
- 20:21Speaker 2: when they are going to go and they're going to
- 20:22Speaker 2: use a search engine, that they just automatically know my
- 20:26Speaker 2: search engine is Luxel.
- 20:27Speaker 3: That's what we would would.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Love because when people really start to use us, they
- 20:32Speaker 2: trust us, they tell their friends about it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: That's how Luxel spreads.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And I think that really the enhanced exposure to a
- 20:41Speaker 2: variety of sources to just significantly more material can really
- 20:45Speaker 2: help to heal some of the divide that we have
- 20:46Speaker 2: in this country right now. People are so siloed in
- 20:51Speaker 2: just seeking out the information that you know, maybe aligns
- 20:55Speaker 2: with their beliefs. But with Luxel, you at least have
- 20:57Speaker 2: the option to see a variety of sources. You don't
- 21:01Speaker 2: get that option on other search engines.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I love the side by side. You get the right perspective,
- 21:05Speaker 1: the life perspective, or even the mill right, So there's
- 21:08Speaker 1: there's a lot of perspective.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Now it can help you understand the other side too.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You might not agree with it. There will be plenty,
- 21:14Speaker 2: plenty of sources on Luxel that you don't agree with,
- 21:17Speaker 2: but you get to decide with Luxel if you engage
- 21:19Speaker 2: with those sources. You don't get to have that same
- 21:22Speaker 2: choice on other search engines.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Are you guys creating an app for you for Luxo?
- 21:26Speaker 1: Is there an app we count download?
- 21:27Speaker 3: And oh yeah, absolutely, but it's in the app store.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Well, now I'm going to download it and really hardage
- 21:32Speaker 1: it because as a podcast or you know, you want
- 21:34Speaker 1: the best news possible, even up to date. I would
- 21:37Speaker 1: say in not just one source, you want all these
- 21:40Speaker 1: different stories. And I maybe it's my add brain, but
- 21:42Speaker 1: I love hearing seeing all those stories. I won't pay
- 21:44Speaker 1: it helps, it helps a lot.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah exactly.
- 21:47Speaker 2: It just gives you a much better variety of perspectives.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Well, I was gonna ask this. A lot of people
- 21:54Speaker 1: probably are turned off by Google because of the apps. Right,
- 21:56Speaker 1: there's a ton of ads. So how do you guys
- 21:58Speaker 1: get funded and how do you make sure or your
- 22:00Speaker 1: users are ad free?
- 22:02Speaker 2: Sure, so we do make money off of clicked ads,
- 22:05Speaker 2: but the ads are highly relevant to whatever it is
- 22:07Speaker 2: that you're searching. So if we compare your experience on Google,
- 22:10Speaker 2: let's say you search for a certain truck, right, those
- 22:13Speaker 2: ads are going not only will there be like a
- 22:15Speaker 2: million truck ads, but those ads are going to follow
- 22:17Speaker 2: you wherever you go. Later on, you might be looking
- 22:20Speaker 2: for a news story, or you might be looking at
- 22:22Speaker 2: the weather, and you're going to still be getting ads
- 22:24Speaker 2: for trucks. That experience will not happen on Luxel. The
- 22:27Speaker 2: ads will be highly relevant to your search marked ad
- 22:30Speaker 2: generally just a couple of them. And again, because we're
- 22:34Speaker 2: not tracking you or selling your data, those ads won't
- 22:37Speaker 2: follow you. Again, just to encourage people that they use
- 22:41Speaker 2: a privacy conscious browser, because sometimes your web browser may
- 22:44Speaker 2: be collecting data that you don't realize. Excuse me at
- 22:46Speaker 2: privacy conscious VPN.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Sure you know, I'm kind of curious for your own
- 22:51Speaker 1: habits here of searching. Has your rate of going on
- 22:55Speaker 1: Google lesson? I mean, are you still going on it
- 22:57Speaker 1: by habit, by even by acci and some times, or
- 23:00Speaker 1: are you partricularly luxe on it? Sure?
- 23:02Speaker 2: I mean you know, when you work in any industry,
- 23:04Speaker 2: you do want to keep some kind of tabs on
- 23:06Speaker 2: the competition, right, And Google is our competition. But I
- 23:11Speaker 2: use Luxel as my primary search engine, and then every
- 23:14Speaker 2: now and then I'll need to hop on and compare results.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And it's almost a little bit of a jump scare, right,
- 23:19Speaker 2: because I'm just not used to that much biased since
- 23:21Speaker 2: I am so familiar with Luxel now.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But it's also a news story because here you are
- 23:27Speaker 1: breaking ground on this app, on this app of Luxel,
- 23:31Speaker 1: but also telling people, hey, don't use Google every minute
- 23:35Speaker 1: you get. You have to diverse the right here exactly.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, try it out that, you know, if people are
- 23:41Speaker 2: so hesitant to try something new, but I'm telling you,
- 23:44Speaker 2: once you give Luxel a try, you won't want to
- 23:46Speaker 2: go back.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Has this inspired you to do more journalism work, knowing
- 23:50Speaker 1: that you have all these sources to actually report from. Now.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Sure, sure, I loved, loved, loved my time in news,
- 23:57Speaker 2: and you know, I'll never say never to going back,
- 24:00Speaker 2: but the hours of working outside of news now make
- 24:06Speaker 2: it a little tough to go back. And I still
- 24:08Speaker 2: feel like I get to tell stories. I'm still telling
- 24:10Speaker 2: the Luxel story, and so you know, I'm still chatting
- 24:13Speaker 2: with you, and I have my hand a bit in journalism,
- 24:17Speaker 2: but not being a working journalist right now definitely does
- 24:21Speaker 2: come with you.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Well, I was gonna say, I'm sure you've been able
- 24:23Speaker 1: to be on other outlets though because of those connections
- 24:26Speaker 1: to talk about Luxel, so it kind of works out.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, you know, And I think just
- 24:30Speaker 2: journalism background, you know, and storytelling really helps with with
- 24:34Speaker 2: being able to spread the message about Luxel.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So when we get all these things, because media is NonStop,
- 24:42Speaker 1: I mean it really is a twenty four to seven cycle.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Is this a mindfulness thing where you have to just
- 24:47Speaker 1: stop for a minute, don't get a caught up in
- 24:49Speaker 1: the craziness, just go to Luxel. I feel like there's
- 24:52Speaker 1: a you guys, help us slow down a little bit, right,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I have to try it out myself, but I'd like
- 24:57Speaker 1: you can slow down and say, all right, it's a
- 24:59Speaker 1: breaking new story, but there's gotta be other sources. Now,
- 25:01Speaker 1: Luxel's the option to find those stories.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I think that when you're not in
- 25:05Speaker 2: the crisis moment of needing to look up a breaking
- 25:09Speaker 2: news story, such as if you're listening to this podcast
- 25:11Speaker 2: and you're on your drive or you're sitting at your couch.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Once you're not driving, download the app, check out luxel
- 25:18Speaker 2: dot com. Once you see the possibilities, I don't think
- 25:22Speaker 2: it's going to take too long for Luxel to sort
- 25:24Speaker 2: of become the default in your brain, because you'll just
- 25:27Speaker 2: have a much better search experience as an option.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Well, Mollie, this has been really special. Thank you for
- 25:33Speaker 1: showing us. By the way, and before I let you go,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'm hoping to have you back on as you as
- 25:38Speaker 1: you go on, have you noticed the clicks increase? I mean,
- 25:41Speaker 1: are you guys keeping tabs on how many increases a
- 25:44Speaker 1: day you guys are getting clicked on?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, of course, you know, we are tracking our
- 25:48Speaker 2: numbers and things like that, and you know, like I've mentioned,
- 25:52Speaker 2: just people don't leave Luxel once they come to Luxel.
- 25:55Speaker 1: All right, well, one leg up on the search engine space.
- 25:58Speaker 1: How about that. I didn't got to ever talk about
- 26:00Speaker 1: these kind of things. But this is great because you're
- 26:02Speaker 1: bringing us a news story, and a well important one.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Because I'm tired of hearing the disinformation conversation. Now you've
- 26:09Speaker 1: got an option. There's no excuse for this information.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Right The information's there.
- 26:14Speaker 2: It's hard to find elsewhere, but it's really easy to
- 26:16Speaker 2: find on loxel.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And one last thing, how did you become an award
- 26:20Speaker 1: winning journalist? And what's your message of journalists today? As
- 26:22Speaker 1: it is an ever changing world and people are always
- 26:25Speaker 1: rushing the X to get their word out, what's your
- 26:27Speaker 1: message of journalists of twenty twenty five?
- 26:29Speaker 2: Sure? My message for journalists twenty twenty five would be
- 26:36Speaker 2: learn how to write from some old school journalists and
- 26:40Speaker 2: take criticism because that will hold you in good stead
- 26:45Speaker 2: for the long run and help to set you apart.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Your ability to write is something that you can always
- 26:51Speaker 2: improve upon, but set up good foundations in the beginning.
- 26:55Speaker 1: All right, well, guess what, Molly, We're going to have
- 26:57Speaker 1: you back on for a whole conversation on journalism because
- 26:59Speaker 1: I've fel like that's going to be a whole thing
- 27:01Speaker 1: with the trouble administration, how the journalists cover him vice versa,
- 27:06Speaker 1: he treats the journalists. It's going to be a whole thing.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I'd love to have you on a separate conversation just
- 27:10Speaker 1: about that alone with your journalism background, because I'm I
- 27:14Speaker 1: I love journalism and I like that field, so I
- 27:17Speaker 1: want to talk more about that with you. But this
- 27:20Speaker 1: is groundbreaking on Luxel was great too, and keep me
- 27:23Speaker 1: updated as we go along here in twenty five.
- 27:25Speaker 3: That sounds great. Thank you so much for having us on.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I'm so excited for you to try out Luxel and
- 27:29Speaker 2: then also just for your trusted listeners to give Luxel
- 27:32Speaker 2: a try as well, and we'd love to know what
- 27:34Speaker 2: they think. Just you know, we're on social media and
- 27:37Speaker 2: just let us know.
- 27:38Speaker 1: All right. Well, Mollie, thank you so much, and we'll
- 27:40Speaker 1: do this again soon, very soon, because I think we're
- 27:42Speaker 1: going to have you back on as the craziness unfolds here.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Hey, I'd love to come back on. This has been
- 27:49Speaker 2: such a pleasure. Really appreciate the exposure.
- 27:52Speaker 1: All right, Mollie Kuik of Luxel Hey, Luxel. That's my
- 27:56Speaker 1: new saying now so we'll talk to you later.
