- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the almost famous podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Welcome back to almost Famous The Ogs, the Podcast of
- 0:08Speaker 2: the Stars.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I just added that part. I don't know where that
- 0:10Speaker 3: came from.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Day two, Day two of the Pebble Beach Extravaganza with
- 0:14Speaker 2: my beautiful and handsome co host Andrew Firestone.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Standing in for Trista standing in for Trista early on
- 0:22Speaker 3: for Dear Life.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You're doing a fantastic job, buddy. Let's recap our final
- 0:26Speaker 2: interview of last night. Just to bring you guys up
- 0:28Speaker 2: to speed. We got a chance to speak with Tim, Keith,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Keith and uh. Keith was sitting where I was sitting
- 0:34Speaker 2: where you are, and Andrew was there, and Keith was here,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and I believe the interview opened with Keith going, I
- 0:40Speaker 2: just got to tell you, guys, I don't even remember
- 0:42Speaker 2: who the hell you are, and I thought you were
- 0:44Speaker 2: a dick.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So Keith, I think he had had a couple of
- 0:48Speaker 1: glasses of Hawaii from dinner, I remember.
- 0:52Speaker 3: So, I think.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I think interviewing Keith is not dissimilar to drinking out
- 0:55Speaker 4: of a fire host.
- 0:56Speaker 5: No, he did not have anything to say.
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, No, we didn't hear and listen super reserved took
- 1:04Speaker 2: a while to get him out of his show.
- 1:06Speaker 4: But you know, once once we once we got him out,
- 1:09Speaker 4: we scratched the surface.
- 1:09Speaker 3: A little boy came out. My goodness. Yeah, we learned
- 1:12Speaker 3: a lot though.
- 1:13Speaker 1: You could see why I kept him around for so long.
- 1:15Speaker 1: He's so entertaining, he's such a great guy.
- 1:17Speaker 3: He's a party and party in a pocket that I know.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The party centers on Keith.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Oh my god, they broke the mold on them. They
- 1:25Speaker 3: sure did, buddy, they shared it.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Welcome to show you, guys.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We've got Joan and Chock here, of course, the golden
- 1:31Speaker 2: Bachelorette couple that came off the show, which we're very,
- 1:34Speaker 2: very proud of, you guys. And I was thinking about
- 1:37Speaker 2: it earlier today and I even brought it up to Joan,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and I thought, you know, we didn't do these things
- 1:40Speaker 2: when Andrew and I were the Bachelor. We didn't do
- 1:43Speaker 2: like organized events where we got together with our discarded
- 1:47Speaker 2: I don't know how you're saying like I was a
- 1:49Speaker 2: lovable loser for trist this season. Probably in no wife a.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Cell phone back then.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Okay, thanks, wagons would have taken forever hot assembly pigeons.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yeah, by telegraph.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But but you know, it's it's nice that we get
- 2:06Speaker 2: to get to together like this and get to see
- 2:09Speaker 2: you like I love to seeing Chalk inter you know,
- 2:11Speaker 2: interact with all of his guys from this from your season.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Is it nice for you?
- 2:15Speaker 2: I mean, is it nice to get together and see
- 2:17Speaker 2: the guys Chalk and absolutely?
- 2:19Speaker 5: Yet yesterday we had a couple of ranks just reminisced
- 2:23Speaker 5: about the Bachelor Mansion, the journey that we all had,
- 2:26Speaker 5: just catch it up.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got to be.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think it'd be fun because I know I like
- 2:30Speaker 2: to get together with the guys from Trista's season. She
- 2:33Speaker 2: wasn't there necessarily, so it's it could be a blessing
- 2:36Speaker 2: and a curse for you, I would guess. But it's
- 2:37Speaker 2: about to be really nice for you to get to
- 2:38Speaker 2: see see of those guys too.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So I love seeing it because you know, you give
- 2:42Speaker 1: up a lot of your life to be on that show.
- 2:44Speaker 1: So you know, sending somebody home is really hard, and
- 2:47Speaker 1: like those Rose ceremonies were like torture for me. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: hated it. I hated it because even if you don't
- 2:51Speaker 1: have a love connection with them, you have a friendship,
- 2:54Speaker 1: your form friendships no matter what. So to see that
- 2:56Speaker 1: they came out whole and like really good and at
- 3:00Speaker 1: least got friendships out of this. And you know, like
- 3:02Speaker 1: they all said, they all kind of had this therapy.
- 3:04Speaker 1: They had these moments that they were in this weird place,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you know, in their life in their sixties and fifties
- 3:10Speaker 1: and sixties, we didn't have many seven year olds, but
- 3:12Speaker 1: and found themselves single and found this tribe of people
- 3:15Speaker 1: that were experiencing the same thing, and then got to
- 3:18Speaker 1: like work through some of their issues that they had
- 3:20Speaker 1: kind of been holding in because there aren't a lot
- 3:22Speaker 1: of people like us. I mean, like I had almost
- 3:25Speaker 1: no friends that were my age and single, and I'm
- 3:26Speaker 1: sure these guys didn't either. So they came off this
- 3:30Speaker 1: journey kind of whole and with this great group of friends,
- 3:32Speaker 1: even if they didn't get a love connection.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a kind of a like Andrew was saying yesterday,
- 3:36Speaker 2: you said it a few times, there's a positive value
- 3:39Speaker 2: that comes out of doing something like Yes.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I think one thing that I noticed just from talking
- 3:44Speaker 4: to some of the crew last night and watching them
- 3:46Speaker 4: all interact, and I was thinking of the dichotomy of
- 3:48Speaker 4: when I was on the show when I was twenty
- 3:49Speaker 4: six versus doing the show now at a more mature age,
- 3:53Speaker 4: where you have confidence that's not bravado, meaning you're not cocky,
- 3:57Speaker 4: but you have a confidence because you've you've done things,
- 4:00Speaker 4: you've raised kids, you've had a career, and you come
- 4:02Speaker 4: in with a with an experience and a perspective that's
- 4:05Speaker 4: completely different than some of the that the young you know,
- 4:09Speaker 4: quote unquote younger bachelors, because they're just starting their life off.
- 4:12Speaker 3: They don't know what they.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Like right, they don't know where they're going, they don't
- 4:14Speaker 4: have an experience, and I mean they have, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: kind of this optimism and kind of a doe look
- 4:19Speaker 4: in their eyes. But I think that the perspective that
- 4:22Speaker 4: this gives is like, no, no, no, I have you know,
- 4:25Speaker 4: I have done this, I've been there, and this is
- 4:27Speaker 4: actually what I want. Yeah, And that's that's a confidence
- 4:31Speaker 4: that's earned as opposed to taken.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Sure.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think that that plays a little bit
- 4:36Speaker 1: into the drama that happens in the younger of acheloues
- 4:40Speaker 1: because I don't think that they have, like you said,
- 4:42Speaker 1: a lot of confidence that they're just trying to figure
- 4:44Speaker 1: themselves out and they are. I think that their backstories
- 4:48Speaker 1: aren't big enough to carry a season of making them interesting.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So what makes the season interesting is the drama.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So they just don't have enough. They haven't lived enough life.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And when you're younger, too, everything offends you.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean when you're funny, like, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you know, I watched Shock last night, and you handle
- 5:13Speaker 2: it so well. You know, you have this this kind
- 5:15Speaker 2: of quiet confidence about you which I really admire. And
- 5:17Speaker 2: you're in the restaurant there and you know, someone comes
- 5:20Speaker 2: over and you know they you know, I mean and
- 5:22Speaker 2: Andrew and I have talked about this and laughed about
- 5:24Speaker 2: this over the years because people will come up and
- 5:26Speaker 2: they go, I've never watched your show, but I want
- 5:27Speaker 2: to get a picture with you. And you have to
- 5:29Speaker 2: determine in that moment. Okay, am I going to be like,
- 5:31Speaker 2: well then why do you want to picture with me?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Or do I just go all what the HELLP?
- 5:34Speaker 3: And so what the hell?
- 5:35Speaker 5: Got right?
- 5:36Speaker 3: I mean, I watched you do it. I watch you know,
- 5:38Speaker 3: and it's kind of funny. I got to that point
- 5:40Speaker 3: probably later in the beginning.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I was probably like, if you didn't watch the show,
- 5:43Speaker 2: why you interrupted dinner.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Has a lot of men that go, well, I want
- 5:49Speaker 5: to take a picture with you so I can get
- 5:51Speaker 5: it to my wife.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah. Share, I'm curious.
- 5:56Speaker 4: So, you know, on your path or your journey. I
- 5:58Speaker 4: hate using those words, but what were what were the
- 6:01Speaker 4: anxiety points? What were the things? Was it a career,
- 6:04Speaker 4: was it family? Was it your own you know, worried
- 6:06Speaker 4: about getting your own heart broken? Was there anything that
- 6:08Speaker 4: was kind of stuck out as an anxiety point as
- 6:11Speaker 4: you went through for those you know, those months where
- 6:13Speaker 4: you're like kind of on an island, like you don't
- 6:15Speaker 4: have that support around you for a little while, So
- 6:17Speaker 4: don't you're all you're all alone and like in the
- 6:19Speaker 4: you know, in the and when it gets dark and
- 6:21Speaker 4: you're you're sitting in bed, you're like, this.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Is what and you get it so well because you
- 6:24Speaker 1: did it and yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Well, the only people you didn't talk to are these
- 6:26Speaker 2: producers who then you're the whole time you're thinking they
- 6:29Speaker 2: have agenda? Are they working their agenda? Do I have
- 6:31Speaker 2: to rethink everything I say to these people?
- 6:33Speaker 1: I feel the same way. That's such a good question,
- 6:36Speaker 1: because you are so alone, you don't have your friend,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you don't have your family, You have nobody to balance
- 6:40Speaker 1: any ideas off of it, and you also have nobody
- 6:42Speaker 1: to meet the people, so you are completely in charge
- 6:45Speaker 1: of making the judgment, and you don't ever know if
- 6:47Speaker 1: everybody is really showing their true selves. Are they showing
- 6:50Speaker 1: their Bachelor TV shelves or selves or are they showing
- 6:53Speaker 1: you who they really really are? So and you have
- 6:56Speaker 1: you don't have a lot of time to spend with
- 6:57Speaker 1: people unless they have an individual date, which you'll only
- 7:01Speaker 1: have what I think I had. I think I had seven, yeah, and.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I think that's more actually than a normal season. I
- 7:07Speaker 2: think normally you have four individual dates and then the
- 7:11Speaker 2: rest are group dates.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think you're right.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Because I don't remember, but I mean there's a lot
- 7:16Speaker 2: of time and several vodkas I go, but I don't remember,
- 7:20Speaker 2: But I think it's I think your season had more.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I was really lucky. I asked for more, Like
- 7:26Speaker 1: they said, what do you want? And I was like,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I think you need more time with people. Like those
- 7:30Speaker 1: group dates. They're fun, but and you see like little
- 7:33Speaker 1: things about people, but you never get to have like
- 7:35Speaker 1: serious conversations. So I think my anxiety came exactly from
- 7:39Speaker 1: what you guys are talking about those late nights where
- 7:42Speaker 1: you're wondering, am I seeing the true person? Like I
- 7:46Speaker 1: need somebody that I can trust to talk to, and
- 7:48Speaker 1: you have nobody, and you're just you're out on an island.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You're making the decisions all by yourself. And I'll said
- 7:52Speaker 1: some guilt about like moving on and that myke, you
- 7:57Speaker 1: and I have talked about this before. About my kids
- 7:59Speaker 1: kind of thought, Okay, well, this is like Mom's new life.
- 8:02Speaker 1: She's going to be kind of ours and maybe a
- 8:06Speaker 1: little at our service because we have my grandchildren now.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And I think that it was a little hard for
- 8:11Speaker 1: them to accept that. You know, I had in my mind,
- 8:14Speaker 1: like thirty two, I had thirty two great years of John.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I thought I have thirty two more years possibly that
- 8:20Speaker 1: I could have another great love in my life and
- 8:22Speaker 1: I was going to find that. And they kind of
- 8:24Speaker 1: had to like adjust to that that thought. So I
- 8:27Speaker 1: had a little guilt I was dealing with while it
- 8:28Speaker 1: was air.
- 8:29Speaker 3: It's something mother's guilt is so interesting, it's so difful,
- 8:33Speaker 3: it's awful.
- 8:34Speaker 4: So what about you, Chuck, Like, what was what was
- 8:36Speaker 4: your you know, because you're you're obviously your professional. You
- 8:38Speaker 4: have your job, you have all you you have your
- 8:40Speaker 4: life there and now you're kind of removing you you're
- 8:43Speaker 4: taking a hiatus from that. And was there anything that
- 8:47Speaker 4: it was keeping you up at night? Was there anything
- 8:49Speaker 4: that was that was worrying you about about this?
- 8:51Speaker 3: I mean you also had the option to leave, but like,
- 8:53Speaker 3: what what was your what was your anxiety?
- 8:55Speaker 5: Very fair question and my best answer on that is,
- 8:58Speaker 5: I really don't have anxiety. Been through a lot of
- 9:00Speaker 5: my life and you just deal with it. It's life.
- 9:02Speaker 5: That's the journey of life. In these chapters what I'm
- 9:05Speaker 5: a guy that sits it. I'll get nervous or anxious.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Where do I put my car keys? It's the little stuff. Yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 5: stuff going, you know, I've got to deal with it.
- 9:15Speaker 5: And so with Joan, I just knew right away, and
- 9:18Speaker 5: people asked, they go, when was the moment? There was
- 9:19Speaker 5: a lot of moments. We got along very well in
- 9:21Speaker 5: the Disneyland day, but I watched her handle these other
- 9:25Speaker 5: men and we're both very social and guys friends, and
- 9:29Speaker 5: I go, I need somebody. I want somebody in my
- 9:31Speaker 5: life like that that's eloquent, that's caring for other people.
- 9:35Speaker 5: And so that anxiety you just never existed, because I go,
- 9:39Speaker 5: I do right away within a couple of just times
- 9:42Speaker 5: that we had together. As far as the other guys,
- 9:45Speaker 5: there were some really good guys and I knew there
- 9:48Speaker 5: was two of them that really cared for Joan. And again,
- 9:51Speaker 5: I think when you're older, you're going It was Joan's
- 9:54Speaker 5: decision of who she took to the end, and you
- 9:57Speaker 5: just have to say, that's fate. Whatever happens happened. Yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 5: and we've all had loves in her life and it
- 10:02Speaker 5: wouldn't worked out. I would have been hurt, but I
- 10:04Speaker 5: wasn't going to be anxious about it going. She needs
- 10:06Speaker 5: to make the decision, the right decision for her, sure,
- 10:09Speaker 5: because she was the lead, right one of us could
- 10:11Speaker 5: have said, hey we're out. Yeah, and I respect somebody.
- 10:14Speaker 5: I had a conversation no names with somebody yesterday and
- 10:17Speaker 5: they go it just wasn't you know, it wasn't going
- 10:19Speaker 5: to work with the two of it. That's okay.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there's certain people that like kind of end up
- 10:23Speaker 1: in friend zone pretty early. And can you guys get
- 10:25Speaker 1: like you and the man get it and you can
- 10:28Speaker 1: see it and you can feel it. And I certainly
- 10:30Speaker 1: was in friend zone with some people, but like I
- 10:32Speaker 1: needed the friends too. Sure, So you know, sometimes you
- 10:35Speaker 1: keep friends along on the journey because you need them,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Like you can't just have all, you know, possible love interests.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I was trist as friend zone. Yeah, I know, I know,
- 10:44Speaker 2: but I felt it too.
- 10:45Speaker 3: You knew it?
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, Like I literally started advocating for Ryan.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And She'll tell you this that I literally was like,
- 10:52Speaker 2: got that guy, man, you know, because she I think
- 10:54Speaker 2: I told Andrew the story last night. I thought someone
- 10:56Speaker 2: She comes home from a date that I was not
- 10:59Speaker 2: on and it was like a one on one date
- 11:01Speaker 2: or whatever. And she comes home and I'm there with
- 11:02Speaker 2: you know, the other fifteen guys in the mansion, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: it's it's a frat party.
- 11:06Speaker 3: It's going off, and she's like.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Pulls me aside because I'm the leader of the party.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Of course, of course, She's like, why would I go
- 11:11Speaker 2: on a date with you? I come back and everyone's
- 11:14Speaker 2: reading the Bible and meditating, but I go on a
- 11:16Speaker 2: date without you, and I come back to this, I'm
- 11:22Speaker 2: not for the record ryants and they're writing poetry for you.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, I think you're right.
- 11:28Speaker 2: People know kind of where they're at right from the beginning,
- 11:31Speaker 2: you know, And there might be a reason I was
- 11:43Speaker 2: going to ask you as this too, because you do
- 11:44Speaker 2: navigate this stuff very well and very similarly, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 2: very you guys have a nice energy about you.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Do you ever get tired of feeling like you have
- 11:51Speaker 3: to defend your relationship? Do you know what I mean?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Like you you come off of a TV show and
- 11:55Speaker 2: everyone's like, oh, this can't be real.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I feel like a lot of the couples from The Bachelor,
- 12:00Speaker 2: uh franchise prior to the Golden failed as a result
- 12:03Speaker 2: of always feeling like they had to defend that relationship
- 12:06Speaker 2: because it's an additional pressure.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Feel like our body language when we're we're in public,
- 12:10Speaker 5: work together. Yeah, just tells everyone. It's the Internet where
- 12:14Speaker 5: people just want to pick you apart in everything. So
- 12:16Speaker 5: the solution of that, like Joe Rogan says, don't read it. Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 5: just stay away and you don't have any of those
- 12:20Speaker 5: problems because we could. I mean, it could be absolutely
- 12:23Speaker 5: perfect and somebody out there in this world's going to
- 12:25Speaker 5: go it's not. Yeah, but we have a great time together.
- 12:29Speaker 5: We were It's like we've said this numerous times. It's
- 12:31Speaker 5: like we've been married five or ten years. Yeah, there
- 12:34Speaker 5: was a reason we ended up together, and we just
- 12:36Speaker 5: compliment each other or we just go okay, you.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Know, yeah, he's super easy. Yeah, I mean I have
- 12:42Speaker 1: to I'm probably not the easy part of this relationship.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So he goes with the flow, which is thank you
- 12:47Speaker 1: very much, because I have a lot of other stuff,
- 12:49Speaker 1: as he knows, with the family and stuff. You know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: I'm like the matriarch, so I have a lot of.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Close to our hotel room here. You know, we need
- 12:58Speaker 5: one three times.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, But I do feel like I do
- 13:06Speaker 1: feel a little responsible for making people think or know
- 13:10Speaker 1: that this is real and first and I don't know
- 13:12Speaker 1: why I feel this responsibility, but like I want them,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I want people to know that this can really work.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And then it does work with a lot of people,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and especially.
- 13:23Speaker 2: When it's working for you, because it's people are going
- 13:25Speaker 2: to always have that sort of judgmental skepticism. Yeah, that immediately,
- 13:30Speaker 2: and you know, I think, you know, I I remember
- 13:32Speaker 2: feeling that kind of pressure.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Uh.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And we obviously we didn't make it to the end clearly,
- 13:37Speaker 2: but I remember feeling that kind of pressure and thinking,
- 13:40Speaker 2: you know, God, how do these other people deal with it,
- 13:42Speaker 2: you know, and it was kind of interesting, you know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and I wondered if you guys, if you guys felt.
- 13:46Speaker 1: That definitely, and especially like on the heels of Gary
- 13:48Speaker 1: and Traesa not working out, like I feel I actually
- 13:52Speaker 1: going into the season, I felt like maybe I was
- 13:54Speaker 1: responsible for like this, like this golden continuing. If I
- 14:00Speaker 1: didn't make it and then they didn't make it, They're
- 14:02Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh, it doesn't work for the stage group.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So I did feel a little bit of pressure, but
- 14:06Speaker 1: I wasn't gonna let that detect my decision because this
- 14:08Speaker 1: is still my life.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So I wasn't a letter.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So I happily found my person. So I feel responsible.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I want that to be out there. And we've even
- 14:17Speaker 1: done we did an Instagram post one time when I
- 14:18Speaker 1: was just sick of it and we were we were
- 14:20Speaker 1: in California and we were in LA for something, I
- 14:23Speaker 1: don't remember what it was for, and we came home
- 14:26Speaker 1: from being out dinner and I was like, let's just
- 14:28Speaker 1: like talk and so we laid in bed and I'm like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't understand why people don't think we're not real
- 14:34Speaker 1: Like here we are. We're in California, we were together
- 14:36Speaker 1: all the time, we were together like every other week.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I mean, we make efforts to each other and they
- 14:41Speaker 1: still don't believe it. And we post, and then the
- 14:44Speaker 1: other thing happens is you post and people like, oh,
- 14:46Speaker 1: you're just in it for the fame. I'm like, well,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I don't. I can't win here, Yeah, you can't.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Wait, you can't win because if you show them the proof, Well,
- 14:51Speaker 2: why do you feel like you have to show us?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, that's exactly the same.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I can't win here. So what does life look like
- 14:59Speaker 3: for you guys? Now?
- 15:00Speaker 4: What I mean not looking down the road, but like
- 15:02Speaker 4: right now, what is what what's life for for you guys?
- 15:05Speaker 5: Now?
- 15:05Speaker 3: A lot of travel, a lot of you you're off
- 15:07Speaker 3: to a little vacation and we'll give it away. But
- 15:08Speaker 3: you guys, so this is the fun part.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Is the fun part, you know, this is the part
- 15:13Speaker 1: that so when you're our age, you've spent your whole
- 15:17Speaker 1: life like planning for this time in your life. You know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: you've raised your family, you've built your careers, you've you know,
- 15:23Speaker 1: maybe got made a little money, so you have some
- 15:25Speaker 1: resources where you can finally kind of just have fun.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And we are finally at that point in our life.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, like I didn't have
- 15:31Speaker 1: anybody to have that fun with and and you didn't either.
- 15:36Speaker 1: So we found each other and now we can start
- 15:38Speaker 1: that part of our life. And so we really are.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We've traveled a lot. We go to New York City
- 15:42Speaker 1: all the time. He's come to Maryland a bunch of times.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I've been to Kansas, planned to go back, of course,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and then we're going to we're finally going on a
- 15:49Speaker 1: vacation just the two of us. We haven't been able
- 15:50Speaker 1: to do this.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think the batchel of captures like kind
- 15:53Speaker 4: of these different chapters, like kind of four chapters. I
- 15:55Speaker 4: think in life, there's like, you know, adolescence, then there's
- 15:58Speaker 4: that kind of young period, and then child raising and
- 16:02Speaker 4: family and career building, and then this chapter and Bacheler
- 16:06Speaker 4: catches chapter two in chapter four and that the chapter three,
- 16:11Speaker 4: which is where where I am and what is It's like,
- 16:13Speaker 4: you know, it's it's you know, it's a lot of work,
- 16:15Speaker 4: it's a lot of responsibility, and it's not you know,
- 16:18Speaker 4: it's not as exciting as where you guys are. It's
- 16:21Speaker 4: not as exciting where chapter two was, which is a
- 16:23Speaker 4: kind of like optimistic, the world's you know, my oyster
- 16:26Speaker 4: whatever else. But I think it's really cool that you
- 16:29Speaker 4: guys have had those three chapters individually, that perspective, that
- 16:33Speaker 4: confidence that you know, that that life experience, and now
- 16:36Speaker 4: you're like, both, yes, this is what we want to do.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I want to do it. Do you want to do it?
- 16:41Speaker 3: I want to do it when together? And if you
- 16:45Speaker 3: don't total that's okay, that's fine, and you don't, and so.
- 16:48Speaker 4: I think that's that's like this this kind of bond
- 16:51Speaker 4: that you guys have, that that the younger bachelors don't
- 16:53Speaker 4: have yet.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I do want to do this on your podcast.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I want to announce we are going to adopt a baby.
- 17:00Speaker 3: You heard it here first anybody.
- 17:02Speaker 5: My father, my father and my mother both adopted people.
- 17:08Speaker 5: So I've been through that.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yes, jo I'll die.
- 17:12Speaker 5: I love.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Like guys this one f y were getting married tomorrow night.
- 17:18Speaker 1: He's doing this.
- 17:19Speaker 4: We also so part of the podcast, we're actually we
- 17:21Speaker 4: have a baby Labrador Retriever, a little puppy.
- 17:24Speaker 2: We're gonna give you would your voyage.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I already have a dog. I don't need another dog.
- 17:30Speaker 1: But he is like an adopted dog.
- 17:32Speaker 2: So we're going to speak to that point too that
- 17:35Speaker 2: you know, be remiss if we don't mention that. Obviously
- 17:38Speaker 2: the The Golden Bachelor they divorced, they kind of and
- 17:42Speaker 2: we've talked about this. They had rushed into the marriage
- 17:44Speaker 2: scenario and and you guys seem to have your own timeline.
- 17:48Speaker 1: About it, which which is no timeline.
- 17:50Speaker 3: It's just like, you know what, we're just riding with it.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And I I had actually even said at that time
- 17:55Speaker 2: and I and I did not know either those those
- 17:58Speaker 2: people there, Gary or.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah I think I didn't know. Yeah, yeah, I didn't.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And I was like, so I didn't want to judge,
- 18:06Speaker 2: Like everyone's like, what do you think? And I'm like,
- 18:07Speaker 2: I don't know them, So I don't know, I said,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but I I don't know why there would be a
- 18:11Speaker 2: rush at this stage in the game two to do
- 18:14Speaker 2: that when you have family where you're where you're at,
- 18:17Speaker 2: and you have family where you're at in Kansa, It's like,
- 18:19Speaker 2: why would you try and up end everything?
- 18:21Speaker 3: You know?
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's like, let's just roll with it to be a
- 18:24Speaker 2: part of each other's lives. Yeah, I mean I think
- 18:26Speaker 2: it's pretty I think that speaks volumes as well, because
- 18:29Speaker 2: I think that the pressure for the younger bachelor people
- 18:33Speaker 2: are Okay, now you're now you're engaged, Now you gotta
- 18:35Speaker 2: ge married, married, let's go.
- 18:37Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:37Speaker 4: I didn't have the whole thing getting married, but but Jen,
- 18:41Speaker 4: who I was with my season, lived in Chicago and
- 18:43Speaker 4: I was in San Francisco, and so I felt where
- 18:46Speaker 4: we both felt this compulsion were like she needed to
- 18:48Speaker 4: be with me or I need to be with her,
- 18:50Speaker 4: and we decided to San Francisco. But I didn't realize,
- 18:53Speaker 4: or we didn't realize, we're upending her entire life. So
- 18:56Speaker 4: not only were we making this transition to now we're
- 18:59Speaker 4: going to be together, but her job, her house, like
- 19:02Speaker 4: all this stuff, her friends, and I didn't have the
- 19:05Speaker 4: perspective on it, probably to be cautious enough about it,
- 19:07Speaker 4: or be or be mindful enough about it, like look
- 19:10Speaker 4: at all of this stuff for giving up.
- 19:11Speaker 3: All I thought was we're together, this is fun, and
- 19:13Speaker 3: we're gonna go.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Do this and this, And you know what, I did
- 19:15Speaker 4: not give the consideration that she had just basically just
- 19:20Speaker 4: kind of pulled the ripcord on everything that she had
- 19:23Speaker 4: done up until that point, which was hers on her
- 19:25Speaker 4: own and now it's just like now we're together. And
- 19:29Speaker 4: that was you know, I mean the press and the
- 19:31Speaker 4: I'll put that aside. It was just two people that
- 19:34Speaker 4: all of a sudden were like instantly without you know,
- 19:36Speaker 4: kind of leaning into it, without speeding up into it,
- 19:39Speaker 4: which is like you know, we're at we're at max
- 19:40Speaker 4: capacity right away.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And a huge responsibility for you because all of
- 19:44Speaker 1: a sudden you have like this dependent yeah, like like
- 19:47Speaker 1: she's not your equal anymore. Like she didn't have her
- 19:49Speaker 1: life and you had your life. Now you have your
- 19:51Speaker 1: life and she has nothing.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah. And I didn't and I didn't put that.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I didn't give that enough care, I think, and in
- 19:57Speaker 4: hindsight now you know, with you know, looking back, of course,
- 20:00Speaker 4: I see that.
- 20:01Speaker 3: But I just don't think that I was careful enough
- 20:02Speaker 3: with that. And I regret.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That's amazing that the canyon and we've gone through that
- 20:10Speaker 2: the region our marriage recently, you know. But I upended
- 20:13Speaker 2: us and moved us to Michigan. Yeah, she gave up everything,
- 20:16Speaker 2: and it was like and I wasn't as thoughtful as
- 20:18Speaker 2: I should have been about it either, because I was
- 20:19Speaker 2: thinking about, oh, my dad's health and you know, I
- 20:22Speaker 2: had these other things that were motivating us and motivating me,
- 20:25Speaker 2: I guess, and uh, yeah, you don't realize that's that's
- 20:28Speaker 2: really thoughtful of you to think like that because.
- 20:30Speaker 4: And even you know, with my my wife, we've been
- 20:32Speaker 4: married now seventeen years in July, and but she to
- 20:36Speaker 4: raise kids, you know, like she gave up all of
- 20:39Speaker 4: her life there as well. And I'm thinking, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 4: this is what you need to do, and this is
- 20:42Speaker 4: you know, she wants to do it.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I want to do it.
- 20:44Speaker 4: But now you like think of all of the sacrifices
- 20:47Speaker 4: that she made in order to give us this happy life,
- 20:51Speaker 4: which is amazing. But there's a part of it that
- 20:54Speaker 4: she had to sacrifice way more than I did. Sure, Yeah, Kevin,
- 20:57Speaker 4: the moment, in the moment, I'm like, no, this is
- 20:59Speaker 4: what we both want, right, this is what we want. Okay,
- 21:01Speaker 4: let's do it. Yeah, let's do it. Never thought about
- 21:04Speaker 4: what the sacrifice was.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Well, even if you like don't move or you don't
- 21:08Speaker 1: you know, you know, make any big changes like as
- 21:11Speaker 1: far as location, you know, when you have kids, there
- 21:14Speaker 1: are sacrifices at that point. And so like I gave
- 21:17Speaker 1: up my career, I was a I was a computer programmer.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I wrote code, and I gave it my career to
- 21:21Speaker 1: like raise my kids. But when the kids are raised,
- 21:25Speaker 1: that's when it really hits you, because then all of
- 21:26Speaker 1: a sudden, you're like, wow, my kids are out of
- 21:28Speaker 1: the house.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Am I going to do?
- 21:30Speaker 1: Just getting a really weird place to be as a
- 21:32Speaker 1: woman when you give up everything and all of a sudden,
- 21:35Speaker 1: like do I go like buy tennis outfits and start
- 21:38Speaker 1: playing tennis? Like there's this weird like what do I
- 21:41Speaker 1: do now with myself? I actually went back and I
- 21:42Speaker 1: got my interior design degree, but it was like kind
- 21:46Speaker 1: of out of the blue, all of a sudden, I
- 21:47Speaker 1: felt very useless. Yeah, so you do degree.
- 21:52Speaker 5: I have new pillows. Yeah, bedrooms been.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Coffee table will create h you know, coffee table tapestries.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Ye, posters off the wall. That's a shame. I used
- 22:15Speaker 3: to love that Cali brock post.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I think that whatever you know, I mean, you know
- 22:30Speaker 4: for seventeen years, what you can be is additive to
- 22:32Speaker 4: the other person's life, you know, and and and recognizing
- 22:35Speaker 4: like them independently, not just as a couple. And this
- 22:38Speaker 4: is a you know, something that I'm going through right now.
- 22:40Speaker 4: It's like recognizing not only the importance of a couple,
- 22:43Speaker 4: but recognizing the importance of that individual, And how can.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I be additive to their life? How can I how
- 22:48Speaker 3: can I be supportive?
- 22:49Speaker 4: And it's challenging because you know, so much of life
- 22:52Speaker 4: is me, me, me, Like, like what do I do?
- 22:54Speaker 4: Even if I'm thinking that I'm being generous, it's a
- 22:57Speaker 4: lot of it's in my own head.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Sure what am I?
- 22:59Speaker 4: You know?
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah, speaking about at least. I mean, you guys are
- 23:02Speaker 1: like such mature husbands and father is way more mature
- 23:05Speaker 1: than anybody I knew, Like when I was raising my kids.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I think that the I don't even know what, like
- 23:11Speaker 1: the like this family intelligence you have and like awareness
- 23:15Speaker 1: of your family situation is like really impressive. I just
- 23:18Speaker 1: have to say that.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Wow, it's a curve though, I mean, like it's such
- 23:21Speaker 4: a learning curve. And you know, turning fifty this year.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Like I look back when I was twenty six doing
- 23:26Speaker 4: the show or twenty seven, whoever it was, and I'm like,
- 23:28Speaker 4: I was such a baby.
- 23:29Speaker 5: Oh I was.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I was. I was such a kid. I didn't know you, No,
- 23:33Speaker 3: I didn't know it.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But it takes a lot of living to get this mature.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Yes, but also it also takes a lot of talking
- 23:38Speaker 4: about it, right, I mean a little like through the
- 23:41Speaker 4: show and we were talking with the Gentleman last night,
- 23:44Speaker 4: to Guy and Gary, it's like they learned a little bit.
- 23:46Speaker 4: They learned a little bit about themselves, and like this
- 23:48Speaker 4: next chapter that they're in right now, maybe they have
- 23:51Speaker 4: sharpened like what it is that they want and by
- 23:54Speaker 4: by going having to sit on a couch like this
- 23:57Speaker 4: and talk to us and say it over and over again,
- 24:00Speaker 4: it's important to you. What are your priorities and how
- 24:02Speaker 4: do you want to spend your life? Yeah, I think
- 24:05Speaker 4: it's I think it's good to talk it through.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It makes you think about the things that are important
- 24:08Speaker 1: instead of just like y're in your head and then
- 24:10Speaker 1: you forget about them when you know something comes up.
- 24:13Speaker 5: The child raising years of the toughest you guys will
- 24:15Speaker 5: ever go through. Yeah yeah, and then you know health
- 24:18Speaker 5: comes at that period or later with yourself, with your parents,
- 24:21Speaker 5: with your loved ones. But it's just, I mean, you're
- 24:24Speaker 5: so active. I think you said three kids, yeah, yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 5: and you've got two too. I mean you're just active.
- 24:29Speaker 5: And men have this is my opinion. Men have evaulved
- 24:32Speaker 5: back in my dad's generation, there's a lot more divorce
- 24:35Speaker 5: and men are so much more active and raising kids
- 24:38Speaker 5: now than what they did. I trust me. I'm with
- 24:39Speaker 5: your psychotherapy on this.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 5: And it's just you are because I bet you guys
- 24:43Speaker 5: go to the soccer games, you go, you know, you
- 24:45Speaker 5: might even go to practice, but you're involved so much more.
- 24:48Speaker 5: And I think that's what's keeping people together.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's tough.
- 24:51Speaker 5: I mean, can we do it again?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Raise babies I love?
- 25:02Speaker 5: Yeah, great, but it's just so much work.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I mean, could possibly be like I could probably honestly
- 25:06Speaker 1: say that those were the best times of my life.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I mean I felt such love and we had such
- 25:11Speaker 1: close friend groups. Because you're with your kids, friends, parents,
- 25:16Speaker 1: like all the time. You like, you formed these really
- 25:18Speaker 1: really close connections, so you feel very supportive and you're
- 25:21Speaker 1: all doing it together, which is really fun. But I
- 25:23Speaker 1: look back and I'm like, I had zero time for myself.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I don't think I got a facial or a massage
- 25:30Speaker 1: or like, I only think I got my nails done
- 25:32Speaker 1: for like ten years.
- 25:34Speaker 3: All the time.
- 25:34Speaker 2: She literally just said this morning she went to the
- 25:36Speaker 2: gym at six am, and I'm like, what are you doing.
- 25:38Speaker 3: You have a chance to sleep.
- 25:39Speaker 2: In now, granted, like you we got because and she's like,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I don't have a chance to do this at home.
- 25:45Speaker 3: No, you know, I'm going to I'm going to go
- 25:48Speaker 3: to the.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Gym and when you guys go to golf, I'm gonna
- 25:50Speaker 2: lay in my bed until Hannah tells me not to.
- 25:53Speaker 3: I love that.
- 25:53Speaker 4: So two nights ago, or sorry, a few nights ago,
- 25:56Speaker 4: is driving my son back from soccer practice, like nine
- 25:58Speaker 4: thirty at night, and I'm enting, I'm like, it's dark
- 26:01Speaker 4: and late and I'm tired of work in the morning,
- 26:03Speaker 4: blah blah blah. And then he just said to me,
- 26:05Speaker 4: just nonchalantly, just said, well, dad, you know in two
- 26:07Speaker 4: months I get my license.
- 26:08Speaker 3: And I literally like teared up and I couldn't breathe
- 26:12Speaker 3: for a second.
- 26:12Speaker 4: I'm like, yes, it is encompassing. It does take all
- 26:16Speaker 4: your time. I you know, you know all those things,
- 26:19Speaker 4: but man, what it's gone. I'm gonna miss it because
- 26:21Speaker 4: it doesn't come back.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Because those car conversations are so valuable. You get the
- 26:26Speaker 1: best conversations because you're not eyed eye with them. You're
- 26:29Speaker 1: looking at the road and you can and they say
- 26:31Speaker 1: things to you that they would never say if you
- 26:33Speaker 1: were sitting across from them.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Right, offer some advice, yes, drivers, and then pay for extrat.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Make it, make it long, because.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Sons don't want to listen to you. They don't let
- 26:47Speaker 5: somebody else teach them how to drive.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Yes, but that's a captive audience in the car is
- 26:52Speaker 4: you know, driving to tournaments and doing whatever else like,
- 26:54Speaker 4: and it's just you know, they're they're there and I
- 26:57Speaker 4: don't let them use their phone when in the car.
- 26:59Speaker 4: And it's so incredibly valuable. And when he said that,
- 27:02Speaker 4: I'm like, yep, this is a chapter that's closing. Yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 4: that child raising for you know, for him in that
- 27:08Speaker 4: period is that chapter is closing and it's not opening
- 27:10Speaker 4: back up against.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Chapters. And I went through that, especially with my son.
- 27:15Speaker 5: What was really neat is when he turned twenty one,
- 27:18Speaker 5: he and I went to a stake place and he
- 27:19Speaker 5: ordered to drink. Yeah, and it was just he's a man,
- 27:22Speaker 5: you know. And then he was in college and then
- 27:24Speaker 5: he just recently graduated and moved to North Carolina and
- 27:27Speaker 5: you miss him. But it's you know, they've got to
- 27:29Speaker 5: go live their life. They spread their wings and find
- 27:32Speaker 5: out who and what they want.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and don't dread like like that. I hated, you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: my kids learning how to drive and growing up and
- 27:40Speaker 1: going to college. But when they come back, like like
- 27:44Speaker 1: great humans and adults, they are really fun too to
- 27:48Speaker 1: have around. So like, like, my kids are my favorite
- 27:51Speaker 1: people to be around. So like, there'll be some like
- 27:54Speaker 1: sad moments for you when you take them off to college,
- 27:56Speaker 1: but they come back and it's really really fun.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Then Yeah, well you're actually very optimistic that my kids
- 28:02Speaker 4: are going to get into cold.
- 28:10Speaker 1: With the brains on both of those parents, I'm not
- 28:13Speaker 1: worried about you.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Well, you guys, thank you so much for joining us
- 28:15Speaker 2: at the Pebble Beach, the almost famous Pebble Beach outing.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Like we said, it's the seventeenth to Andrew, it's the
- 28:21Speaker 2: third for me. But we've had such a good time
- 28:24Speaker 2: with you guys, and I love you all be in here.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I've love getting to know you. I'm a big fan
- 28:28Speaker 2: of the two of you guys, and I just feel
- 28:29Speaker 2: like you're what you've done I think for this franchise
- 28:34Speaker 2: is next level because I think the authenticity of what
- 28:38Speaker 2: you guys do together is it speaks volumes way more
- 28:42Speaker 2: than you know, somebody else's track record of just rushing
- 28:45Speaker 2: to something and and you know, not getting there in.
- 28:48Speaker 3: The proper way.
- 28:48Speaker 2: So it's like, you know, I have no advice to
- 28:50Speaker 2: give other than you know, enjoy the ride because it's
- 28:53Speaker 2: always a fun one. And clearly if Andrew and I
- 28:55Speaker 2: are any indication, it'll go on for the next twenty
- 28:57Speaker 2: some years for you.
- 28:58Speaker 3: So you made it. Yeah, yeah, I guess so.
- 29:02Speaker 5: But if I can ask one favor of your listeners, yes,
- 29:04Speaker 5: would you guys send me socks? I don't have socks.
- 29:08Speaker 3: You guys take it away. You got you got Amy Sugarman,
- 29:12Speaker 3: Amy Sugar Talks.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you guys seen Jones post about my sock.
- 29:15Speaker 3: No I didn't see it. Oh my god.
- 29:17Speaker 1: So I go to his house for the first time
- 29:18Speaker 1: in Kansas, and he's like, I have like the this
- 29:21Speaker 1: sock issue. He goes, I hate like parrying my socks
- 29:24Speaker 1: after I wash them, so I just throw them into
- 29:26Speaker 1: a big container. He's actually like two containers, and I go, well,
- 29:30Speaker 1: bring them up, I'll do them. I spent two days,
- 29:34Speaker 1: like probably four or five hours each day pairing his socks,
- 29:37Speaker 1: and there were three hundred and forty six pairs.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Yeah, I'm a sock man too. I've
- 29:42Speaker 3: got a ton.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but do you pair them after you?
- 29:44Speaker 3: Watch you for the most part. But we also have
- 29:46Speaker 3: a bin where you know the driving socks.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I know where do they go.
- 29:49Speaker 3: It's a pretty good sized bin. I'm not gonna lie.
- 29:51Speaker 3: I need you to come to our house. Well, I
- 29:53Speaker 3: do it.
- 29:54Speaker 1: It seems it's kind of therapeutic.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Actually, I'm shure. We thanks you guys. Thank you so much.
- 29:58Speaker 1: You guys, thank you for when to talk to us.
- 30:00Speaker 3: That's too like, that's all right again you as well.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Almost famous d o g. We're going golfing.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Hm.
