- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's I was about to say Tuesday
- 0:16but it's not it's Wednesday. It's the 12th of February.
- 0:20Lovely that you could invite me into.
- 0:22Whatever is happening in your day, whether you are flat chat
- 0:27going for it, or whether you are nice and calm, whether the day
- 0:30has barely begun, whether the day is now at its end.
- 0:33Wherever you are friends, doesn't matter.
- 0:36What matters is that you have tapped on play tapped on this
- 0:40little picture and we get to read a chapter of God's word
- 0:44together. Now yesterday, boy, we were left
- 0:47on a cliffhanger, weren't we? There was this terrible
- 0:50situation where a mother had killed and eaten her child and
- 0:54then the neighbour who they had made a pact with had said, no,
- 0:57we're not doing it to my child, your child was enough.
- 0:59So, oh, terrible times. As they're being besieged by
- 1:03their enemies and the king is ready to relieve Elisha's neck
- 1:08of its head and he's just arrived and we are going to see
- 1:13well either some magical escape or a rabbit pulled from a hat.
- 1:18But friends, we worship an incredible God where anything is
- 1:22possible. So let's see how God through his
- 1:26prophet gets them out of this terrible, terrible situation.
- 1:31As we continue the story reading Second Kings Chapter 7,
- 1:46Elisha replied. Listen to this message from the
- 1:49Lord. This is what the Lord says.
- 1:52By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, 6 quarts of
- 1:57choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and 12 quarts
- 2:03of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.
- 2:07The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, That
- 2:11couldn't happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven.
- 2:15But Elisha replied, You will see it happen with your own eyes,
- 2:20but you won't be able to eat any of it.
- 2:25Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance
- 2:28of the city gates. Why should we sit here waiting
- 2:31to die? They asked each other.
- 2:34We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city,
- 2:38we will starve if we go back there, so we might as well go
- 2:42out and surrender to the Aramean army.
- 2:44If they let us live, so much the better.
- 2:47But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.
- 2:51So at twilight they set out for the camp of the Arameans.
- 2:56But when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there.
- 3:00For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter
- 3:04of speeding Chariots and the galloping of horses, and the
- 3:07sounds of a great army approaching.
- 3:10The king of Israel has hide the Hittites and Egyptians to attack
- 3:13us. They cried to one another.
- 3:15So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their
- 3:19tents, horses, donkeys and everything else as they fled for
- 3:23their lives. When the men with leprosy
- 3:26arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after
- 3:30another, eating and drinking wine, and they carried off
- 3:34silver and gold and clothing and hid it.
- 3:38Finally they said to each other, this is not right.
- 3:41This is a day of good news, and we aren't sharing it with
- 3:44anyone. If we wait until morning, some
- 3:47calamity will certainly fall upon us.
- 3:49Come on, let's go back and tell the people at the palace.
- 3:54So they went back to the city and told the gatekeepers what
- 3:57had happened. We went out to the Aramean camp,
- 4:00they said, and no one was there. The horses and donkeys were
- 4:04tethered and the tents were all in order, but there wasn't a
- 4:08single person around. Then the gatekeepers shouted the
- 4:11news to the people in the palace.
- 4:14The king got out of bed in the middle of the night and told his
- 4:17officers, I know what has happened.
- 4:20The Arameans know we are starving, so they left their
- 4:23camp and have hidden in the fields.
- 4:25They are expecting us to leave the city, and then they will
- 4:29take us alive and capture the city.
- 4:32One of his officers replied. We had better send out scouts to
- 4:36check into this. Let them take five of the
- 4:39remaining horses. If something happens to them, it
- 4:42will be no worse if they stay here and die with the rest of
- 4:45us. SO2 Chariots with horses were
- 4:48prepared, and the king sent scouts to see what had happened
- 4:52to the Aramean army. They went all the way to the
- 4:55Jordan River, following a trail of clothing and equipment that
- 4:58the Arameans had thrown away in their mad rush to escape.
- 5:02The scouts returned and told the king about it.
- 5:05Then the people of Samaria rushed out and plundered the
- 5:09Aramean camp. So it was true that 6 quarts of
- 5:14choice flour were sold that day for one piece of silver, and 12
- 5:19quarts of barley grain was sold for one piece of silver, just as
- 5:22the Lord had promised. The king appointed his officer
- 5:27to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down
- 5:31and trampled to death as the people rushed out.
- 5:35So everything happened exactly as the man of God had predicted
- 5:39when the king came to his house. The man of God had said to the
- 5:42king, by this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, 6 quarts
- 5:47of choice flour will cost one piece of silver, and 12 quarts
- 5:51of barley grain will cost one piece of silver.
- 5:54The King's officer had replied that couldn't happen even if the
- 5:58Lord opened the windows of heaven.
- 6:01And the man of God had said, you will see it happen with your own
- 6:05eyes, but you won't be able to eat any of it.
- 6:09And so it was for the people trampled him to death at the
- 6:13gate. Oh, Father, we often think we're
- 6:25pretty smart and we think we can come up with some great
- 6:29solutions to the problems we face.
- 6:32And while yes we can, what we are able to do pales in
- 6:37comparison with you and your creativity and the incredible
- 6:42way that you go about bringing your desired outcome in a way
- 6:47that we would never even anticipate.
- 6:50So Lord, give us the faith and the strength to put our own
- 6:55plans down and open our hearts to you and be ready for the the
- 7:00doors that you will open in the little things in our day to day
- 7:04lives, but also in the big things as we plan for our
- 7:07futures. Ah, Lord, You often would lead
- 7:11us in ways that we cannot ever predict.
- 7:15Thank you that You care enough about us that you would be
- 7:19involved in the day to day workings of our life, that you
- 7:23would guide us and lead us into paths that we don't even know
- 7:27are there yet. You are a glorious, wonderful,
- 7:31loving and kind Father, and You provide for us in so many
- 7:36beautiful ways. Thank you.
- 7:40Thank you that you do guide us and that our lives are not
- 7:43caught on the whims of the world, but they are firmly held
- 7:47by you and that you guide our path.
- 7:52Ah, you are so good to us and we love you.
- 7:55And we pray all of this through the saving name of your Son,
- 7:58Jesus. Amen.
