- 0:14Speaker 1: Five minutes past the hour. It is the third hour
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the Morning Show with Preston Scott Tuesday on the
- 0:19Speaker 1: radio program. He's Osea. I'm Preston. Great to be with you,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and this is our friend. He is the author of
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Fifty Things books. He is the entertainment editor at
- 0:28Speaker 1: Breitbart dot Com. He is Jerome Hudson Hydrome.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Good morning, my brother.
- 0:34Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Oh? Terrific? Pretty good?
- 0:39Speaker 1: I don't want to play You're sounding a little a
- 0:42Speaker 1: little echoey. I need the dulcet tones a little closer
- 0:46Speaker 1: to your microphone.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Is that better?
- 0:49Speaker 1: That's a little better. Okay, tell me. Did you know
- 0:52Speaker 1: Charlie Kirk.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I did get the opportunity to hang out with Charlie
- 0:58Speaker 2: a few times back totay Age at some Turning Point
- 1:03Speaker 2: USA events and then a couple I think there was
- 1:07Speaker 2: a sea pack and some other stuff. But anyway, there
- 1:13Speaker 2: was a presence about him, you know. I think the
- 1:18Speaker 2: first time I met him was twenty nineteen and just
- 1:21Speaker 2: he just hit me with the big, bright smile. I
- 1:24Speaker 2: think I was like introduced as like a bright bart
- 1:26Speaker 2: editor to him, but it didn't seem to matter, Like
- 1:29Speaker 2: he just hit me with that big, bright smile and
- 1:33Speaker 2: just like embraced. You know, he did the handshake and
- 1:37Speaker 2: pulled me in thing, and you know just I mean
- 1:42Speaker 2: the conversation was led by him just asking me what
- 1:46Speaker 2: it's like, you know, covering Hollywood, the entertainment industry at
- 1:50Speaker 2: Bright Bart. Yeah, just incredibly warm every time I bumped
- 1:57Speaker 2: into him. But beyond that, you know, just the people.
- 2:01Speaker 2: My colleagues just had a relationship where they text him
- 2:06Speaker 2: every day. And you know, all the good things you
- 2:09Speaker 2: heard about him just echoed throughout the last few weeks.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You know, it's just all true. It's all true.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So as a black male, you were not shunned or
- 2:21Speaker 1: laughed at, or belittled or called names or told how
- 2:26Speaker 1: stupid you were. You mean, none of that's true.
- 2:29Speaker 2: No. Actually, I have a I have a colleague who's very,
- 2:34Speaker 2: very Italian who is still distraught. She was one of
- 2:38Speaker 2: the Charlie's first hires after he basically stood up turning
- 2:43Speaker 2: point out of a garage. And uh, I mean, yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 2: those are the times we live in, right, I guess
- 2:51Speaker 2: good people are taken and immediately. Uh. John Stewart's called
- 3:01Speaker 2: it the political gender reveal of our times. Right, It's
- 3:08Speaker 2: just you know, whatever, whatever team you believe you're on,
- 3:12Speaker 2: you you you, whether you're on TV or social media,
- 3:16Speaker 2: doesn't matter. You just you just you just have to
- 3:19Speaker 2: read from the script and say the worst things about
- 3:22Speaker 2: good people, regardless if it's true or not. It's it's unfortunate,
- 3:26Speaker 2: it's sad, it's not necessarily new. But in this case,
- 3:30Speaker 2: it it felt different. You know. Like I said, I
- 3:34Speaker 2: only spent a collective few hours with Charlie over a
- 3:39Speaker 2: six or seven year period, and I was distraught for days.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I haven't cried in years, and I mean I didn't
- 3:45Speaker 2: break down, but I was fighting back tears listening to
- 3:49Speaker 2: my boss, uh, Breitbart's editor in chief Alex Marlow, filling
- 3:55Speaker 2: in for Hugh Hewitt as the news was coming in.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I mean, it is just it was just your heart
- 4:02Speaker 2: breaks repeatedly. Right. But the other side of that coin
- 4:08Speaker 2: is just the revival, that the spiritual awakening that I
- 4:11Speaker 2: think was already happening in this country full of tilt.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Now, before we get to the revival side and the
- 4:20Speaker 1: side that was most important to Charlie, I asked a
- 4:24Speaker 1: lot of people this question, what is worse the assassination
- 4:29Speaker 1: of Charlie Kirk or the reaction by people on the
- 4:33Speaker 1: extreme left to it.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Definitely the latter, because I don't I don't know if
- 4:43Speaker 2: I've ever seen a reaction to a cold blooded murder
- 4:48Speaker 2: such a good man living out the First Amendment on
- 4:54Speaker 2: a college campus where you know, conservatives often need security,
- 5:00Speaker 2: and that's after they jumped through the hurdles of the
- 5:03Speaker 2: administration and the rabbit activists on student activists on campus.
- 5:09Speaker 2: It takes a lot to stand up the organization that
- 5:12Speaker 2: Charlie did, and to do what he was doing on
- 5:14Speaker 2: major in small universities, in these communities, and to be
- 5:20Speaker 2: and to be killed in that manner doing that, and
- 5:25Speaker 2: then to have in the in the moments as we
- 5:29Speaker 2: don't even know if he's alive or dead, people like
- 5:34Speaker 2: you know, Matthew Dowd on MSNBC just making flipped remarks,
- 5:39Speaker 2: but even worse than that, people just dancing on his graves,
- 5:44Speaker 2: celebrating his assassination. There was a little bit of that.
- 5:49Speaker 2: When Andrew Breitbart passed in February twenty twelve. We were
- 5:53Speaker 2: in the social media age, but we had not sort
- 5:57Speaker 2: of accelerated to the to the point where I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 2: just we're talking about school administrators physicians, doctors, teachers, healthcare professionals,
- 6:10Speaker 2: members of the Department of Defense just either outright celebrating
- 6:16Speaker 2: Charlie's death, are saying well, good riddance. You know. The
- 6:22Speaker 2: actor Dwight Route from the office telling on his podcast
- 6:27Speaker 2: telling Mark Ruffalo a story, Rain Wilson says, I went
- 6:33Speaker 2: to a party in Hollywood, and let's just say, some
- 6:36Speaker 2: of my celebrity friends their reaction to Charlie's death was
- 6:40Speaker 2: I'm not shedding any tears. Again, I don't know how
- 6:44Speaker 2: we got to this place exactly, because again, like it
- 6:47Speaker 2: just wasn't like this. Andrew Bidepart was the first to
- 6:50Speaker 2: retweet the left's hate on social media, right to hold
- 6:54Speaker 2: up that mirror and show just how much contempt they
- 6:57Speaker 2: had for ordinary Americans. But this was, this was a
- 7:02Speaker 2: lot worse. But at the same time, you know, sun sun,
- 7:05Speaker 2: sunlight is the best disinfectant, and you certainly don't want
- 7:11Speaker 2: people working in our federal government security agencies who harbor
- 7:16Speaker 2: those feelings. You don't you don't want people who have
- 7:19Speaker 2: the responsibility of giving unbiased treatment healthcare, and you know,
- 7:26Speaker 2: teaching children to have that much hate in their heart.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And I think all of these people signed contracts to
- 7:33Speaker 2: work at these jobs, and I think it's the it's
- 7:37Speaker 2: the duty of an employer to separate that person from
- 7:41Speaker 2: that from their profession and their company.
- 7:44Speaker 1: We could talk a long time about the reaction to
- 7:47Speaker 1: all of this, the Jimmy Kimmel Live thing, the lack
- 7:51Speaker 1: of apology is outright dishonesty, and his statement, which we
- 7:55Speaker 1: highlighted here. I'd rather take a minute here and get
- 7:58Speaker 1: your thoughts on what's the state means this revival beyond
- 8:01Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit, because Holy Spirit obviously has to have
- 8:05Speaker 1: willing participants. Will will this move be sustained for any
- 8:10Speaker 1: length of time? Do you think?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, absolutely, I think I think if anything has
- 8:16Speaker 2: happened in the last decade, and you can, you can
- 8:18Speaker 2: you can lay it on you know, Trump or whatever,
- 8:23Speaker 2: you think the impetus was for just sort of a
- 8:27Speaker 2: political awakening that sort of, in my opinion, undergirds a
- 8:32Speaker 2: spiritual awakening that I think was already happening. I just
- 8:36Speaker 2: think that the hunger and the yearning is just there
- 8:41Speaker 2: on a level that can be nothing but celebrated. You know.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I often talk about how it's no accident that so
- 8:50Speaker 2: many of our major and mid size cities in this
- 8:55Speaker 2: country are just overwrought with crime and have these paprological issues,
- 9:01Speaker 2: failing schools, And it's no accident that the common denominator
- 9:05Speaker 2: is those cities are oftentimes run by Democrats, the mayor,
- 9:08Speaker 2: the city council, the county council. But I bet if
- 9:14Speaker 2: you look at those cities also, there is a broken
- 9:17Speaker 2: relationship between the church and the community leaders, and the
- 9:22Speaker 2: church and the political leaders in those cities. And that
- 9:26Speaker 2: is so we're seeing that that relationship be built on
- 9:31Speaker 2: a grassroots level of all places, cities like Chicago, those
- 9:35Speaker 2: people showing up present to those city council meetings, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 2: saying this isn't right. I mean, these people shouldn't even
- 9:44Speaker 2: be in this country, let alone having our tax dollars
- 9:47Speaker 2: be used to subsidize their lifestyles. While we have homeless
- 9:51Speaker 2: people who've just been failed one time after another in
- 9:55Speaker 2: this city, or or even worse, veterans who come back
- 10:00Speaker 2: from theodos of war and fall out of the mainstream,
- 10:04Speaker 2: their their faith leaders leading the charge and and and
- 10:08Speaker 2: and asking for more accountability from their political leadership. And
- 10:13Speaker 2: so it was there, and I think you know, Charlie
- 10:17Speaker 2: didn't want to die, but I think he was prepared
- 10:20Speaker 2: to die. He wanted to save the country, but he
- 10:23Speaker 2: certainly wanted to save souls even more. And I think
- 10:27Speaker 2: in his death, both of those those things will be
- 10:31Speaker 2: done at an even more extraordinary level.
- 10:40Speaker 1: He is the entertainment editor at Breitbart dot Com, has
- 10:45Speaker 1: been for a long time, but he's been a friend
- 10:47Speaker 1: of mine longer. Jero Mudson with me, and uh, let's
- 10:54Speaker 1: change gears for a second. I learned over the weekend
- 10:58Speaker 1: that the Super Bowl was going to hand over its
- 11:01Speaker 1: halftime show to a guy that doesn't rap in English. Yeah,
- 11:11Speaker 1: a Puerto Rican name Bundy born, Yeah, Benito Jerome. Explain
- 11:19Speaker 1: this to me? Explain what is this because it's in California.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Is this because the NFL just wants to certify its
- 11:27Speaker 1: woke credentials? What the heck?
- 11:31Speaker 2: The first thing is the NFL five years ago was
- 11:36Speaker 2: a nine billion dollar brand. I think it's a fifteen
- 11:39Speaker 2: billion dollar brand today. The NFL, the Shield as it
- 11:42Speaker 2: is referred to, is all about growth. That means having
- 11:47Speaker 2: your first game this year played in Brazil, but you
- 11:52Speaker 2: put the game on YouTube so hundreds of millions of
- 11:56Speaker 2: people can watch it. There are games in Spain now
- 12:00Speaker 2: that they're pursuing. They just played games in Germany and
- 12:03Speaker 2: London last weekend. They've been in London, uh for over
- 12:07Speaker 2: a decade, and so the brand of the NFL is,
- 12:11Speaker 2: bottom line, we are going to grow our audience and
- 12:14Speaker 2: we are going to do it by engaging the Latin America.
- 12:18Speaker 2: We're going to push back against football in Europe and
- 12:23Speaker 2: so bad Bunny the most streamed artists on the planet's Yes,
- 12:30Speaker 2: he is besides having a like hold your hand, Grandpa
- 12:36Speaker 2: and explain this to you.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I mean, no, seriously, what besides having a crappy name?
- 12:41Speaker 1: What what is the is it? Because he's rapping in
- 12:45Speaker 1: Spanish and so many people speak the language, I mean,
- 12:48Speaker 1: what is it? What's what's special about him?
- 12:50Speaker 2: His music? No, his music sort of has the hints
- 12:54Speaker 2: and notes of reggaeton and salsa, you know, and so
- 12:59Speaker 2: you know he's he's making music that young, old like
- 13:05Speaker 2: a billion people are into and really, yeah, I know
- 13:09Speaker 2: his shows. I mean he does the pyrotechnics, he kisses
- 13:13Speaker 2: men on stage, he wears dresses on Instagram. I mean,
- 13:18Speaker 2: he's hitting every little button.
- 13:20Speaker 1: So he's playing the androgynist thing. He's he's playing the
- 13:24Speaker 1: everything to all people kind of thing.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Now, I'm told by Francis Martel, bret Part's international editor
- 13:33Speaker 2: that you can't be a Latin pop star and come
- 13:36Speaker 2: all the way out of the closet. So what bat
- 13:38Speaker 2: Bunny's basically doing is queer baiting for clicks and likes
- 13:43Speaker 2: and social acceptance. But Ricky Martin came out, yes, but
- 13:47Speaker 2: he was already fifty five years old and had a
- 13:50Speaker 2: blossoming career. So that's that part of it. But if
- 13:55Speaker 2: you're the NFL you want global domination. You've had Kendrick
- 13:59Speaker 2: lam are the biggest rapper, most streamed rapper. Before that,
- 14:05Speaker 2: you had Rihanna, who's done stadium shows. You know, hadn't
- 14:09Speaker 2: really been popular, hadn't really been putting out a lot
- 14:11Speaker 2: of music in the last few years. But Rihanna, but
- 14:15Speaker 2: she's she's the goat in many many people's eyes. Before that,
- 14:19Speaker 2: you had The Weekend Again, The Weekend did stadium shows.
- 14:23Speaker 2: He's Canadian, he's massively international, and so that and so well,
- 14:33Speaker 2: as long as jay Z is on the board that
- 14:36Speaker 2: that that basically decides who is performing at these halftime shows,
- 14:42Speaker 2: You're going to continue to get this. Now, I will say,
- 14:45Speaker 2: Metallica from San Francisco, not as far as I can tell,
- 14:50Speaker 2: going to be participating in this halftime show. And this
- 14:54Speaker 2: is the second time I think in a decade that
- 14:56Speaker 2: the halftime Super Bowl halftime show has been in San Francis.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Go And I mean, but that's the point though, Like
- 15:03Speaker 2: the NFL looks at Metallican says, are what kind of
- 15:07Speaker 2: audience are they going to drive in? What kind of
- 15:09Speaker 2: new eyeballs are they going to bring to the game.
- 15:13Speaker 2: It's the biggest it's the biggest advertising event of the
- 15:16Speaker 2: year by far, and he's the He's Bad Bunny. You
- 15:20Speaker 2: may not like the name, but people like the music.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Will the super Bowl have the audience Charlie Kirks memorial had.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Wow? I don't think so. I really don't, But you know,
- 15:34Speaker 2: I don't want to let that detract from the fact that,
- 15:37Speaker 2: you know a lot of people were mourning and to
- 15:40Speaker 2: see the Yankees on September tenth, the day he was taken,
- 15:47Speaker 2: honoring him in the way that they did, and then
- 15:50Speaker 2: most of the NFL teams and other MLB teams, international
- 15:56Speaker 2: teams honoring him. Credible. Charlie was in South Korea and Japan.
- 16:04Speaker 2: South Korea two days Japan one day before his his murder.
- 16:10Speaker 2: You know, I mean the guy was loved in all
- 16:12Speaker 2: four corners of the planet. But yeah, I don't I
- 16:16Speaker 2: don't think that's going to happen. But stranger things.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll say good to talk to you, friend, be well,
- 16:24Speaker 1: love you, thank you by love you too. Jerome Hudson
- 16:26Speaker 1: with Me Our Friend. Morning Show with Preston Scott
